- 1:46Speaker 3: little bit later on the show. Of course, the big
- 1:48Speaker 3: story around these parts, the the Pro Road National Championships
- 1:53Speaker 3: are now, I guess officially as of about if everything
- 1:56Speaker 3: went according to schedule about seven months ago, officially under Charleston.
- 2:00Speaker 3: The chief of staff of the Good One Administration, Matt
- 2:02Speaker 3: Sutton in studio with us this morning. Matthew, Good morning, morning, David.
- 2:05Speaker 4: How's it going?
- 2:06Speaker 3: But how's it going for you, that's the big question.
- 2:08Speaker 6: I'm here with you. It's going good. I get my
- 2:10Speaker 6: first appearance in this studios, so I'm excited. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:14Speaker 6: this is this is phenomenal. I can hear myself, I
- 2:16Speaker 6: can hear you. That's something different. You can you can
- 2:19Speaker 6: see me. I don't know if that's a bonus or not.
- 2:22Speaker 3: All right, So first thing, and Chief Scott Dempsey's going
- 2:25Speaker 3: to join this a little bit later on. And by
- 2:27Speaker 3: the way, the mayor could not make the show this morning.
- 2:30Speaker 3: She is going to be on Metro News midday though,
- 2:33Speaker 3: talking about the event to the people around the state
- 2:35Speaker 3: of West Virginia. Because this is this is really huge
- 2:37Speaker 3: obviously for Charleston. Let's get to what's on everybody's mind
- 2:41Speaker 3: though right now, and that's the traffic situation absolutely so
- 2:45Speaker 3: what any and again we can talk to Chief Dempsey
- 2:47Speaker 3: about that a little bit later on. But my social
- 2:49Speaker 3: media this morning, everywhere I turned on social media traffics
- 2:52Speaker 3: and mass traffics and mess what say you You're not
- 2:56Speaker 3: gonna argue.
- 2:56Speaker 7: With that them, No, I'm not going to argue with it.
- 2:58Speaker 7: I'm not gonna argue with it. What I'm going to
- 3:00Speaker 7: say is excuse me.
- 3:01Speaker 4: First.
- 3:01Speaker 7: What I'm going to say is is this is a
- 3:02Speaker 7: Monday morning issue only, and I say that only because
- 3:06Speaker 7: this was We're not going to have this problem over
- 3:08Speaker 7: the next couple of days. This particular race, with the
- 3:11Speaker 7: Paracycling race taking place downtown today, required an extra level
- 3:15Speaker 7: of precaution as we took We have different cyclists who
- 3:19Speaker 7: have different sort of but i'le say they're not the
- 3:21Speaker 7: typical bike size, so a lot of them are lower
- 3:24Speaker 7: to the ground, which makes them harder to see, so
- 3:26Speaker 7: we had to close down more roads. The race route
- 3:29Speaker 7: going through downtown is a little bit different. We didn't
- 3:31Speaker 7: have this event last year. So the biggest thing I'm
- 3:34Speaker 7: going to say is bear with us this morning. We're
- 3:36Speaker 7: trying as hard as we can to get everybody in.
- 3:39Speaker 7: The races Today will be over about one so you're
- 3:41Speaker 7: not gonna have this problem when you leave, and you're
- 3:42Speaker 7: not gonna have it over the next couple of days either.
- 3:45Speaker 7: It's much more easy to get around downtown in the
- 3:48Speaker 7: mornings over the next few days. Today is the toughest
- 3:50Speaker 7: day for traffic, so bear with us. Don't think what
- 3:53Speaker 7: you see today is what you're going to see tomorrow.
- 3:54Speaker 7: It's not going to be the same issues.
- 3:56Speaker 3: So let's just say and I'm going to give you
- 3:58Speaker 3: an example here. By the way, Chief Sutton always good
- 4:00Speaker 3: to take phone calls or text. You can call us
- 4:02Speaker 3: big Ley Pigli Wiggly hotline three zero four three four
- 4:05Speaker 3: five fifty fifty eight or text courtesy of Tony the
- 4:07Speaker 3: Taylor three zero four nine three three or four nine
- 4:11Speaker 3: three five five zero zero eight. I understand we've got
- 4:14Speaker 3: Tim Brady in the phone too. Let's get to mister
- 4:16Speaker 3: Brady and I'll bring him in on the conversation. All right,
- 4:19Speaker 3: go ahead and put him on the phone there. Commissioner Brady,
- 4:23Speaker 3: how are you? I don't know why it's a cousin, Commissioner,
- 4:25Speaker 3: but how's it going?
- 4:26Speaker 8: Man?
- 4:28Speaker 9: Well, thanks for the thanks for the title upgrade.
- 4:30Speaker 8: I appreciate that.
- 4:30Speaker 9: I didn't expect a promotion.
- 4:33Speaker 3: I got matth Sutton in studio with us and we
- 4:35Speaker 3: were just talking about the traffic situation in Chief Sutton
- 4:38Speaker 3: tells us that this is not going to be this
- 4:41Speaker 3: way all this week.
- 4:44Speaker 9: Yeah, today is today is a little bit of an anomaly.
- 4:47Speaker 9: The Para road race just got underway in downtown Charleston.
- 4:50Speaker 9: The first three waves of writers just went off. But
- 4:55Speaker 9: today is a bit of an anomaly. The traffic pattern
- 4:57Speaker 9: will be markedly different beginning to tomorrow.
- 5:01Speaker 3: And again, the city of Charleston, I think has done
- 5:03Speaker 3: a really really great job with having the information posted
- 5:06Speaker 3: on social media. I know it's been you know, all
- 5:09Speaker 3: over the place, so I mean, just know before you go.
- 5:11Speaker 3: But what we want to do, what we wanted to
- 5:14Speaker 3: kind of reiterate to people, is that again, if you're
- 5:17Speaker 3: coming into work this morning and you're thinking, oh my god,
- 5:19Speaker 3: it's going to be a terrible week in Charleston if
- 5:22Speaker 3: you work nine to five in you know, some office
- 5:25Speaker 3: building downtown, that's not the case, Matt.
- 5:26Speaker 4: No, that's not going to be it.
- 5:27Speaker 7: I mean, the boulevard is going to be shut down
- 5:29Speaker 7: for the for the most part, you know, right in
- 5:30Speaker 7: the heart of downtown all week. But the streets getting
- 5:33Speaker 7: into downtown, Court Street, Virginia Street, Washington, those will be
- 5:36Speaker 7: much easier to get through over the next few days
- 5:38Speaker 7: after we get through today.
- 5:39Speaker 4: And again, when you leave work today, it's not going
- 5:41Speaker 4: to be a problem.
- 5:42Speaker 7: Now if you try to leave work here in the
- 5:44Speaker 7: next few minutes and you try to get back at
- 5:45Speaker 7: about eleven o'clock, You're still going to have these same issues,
- 5:48Speaker 7: but we'll be good till till about one o'clock today,
- 5:51Speaker 7: two o'clock, and then things will ease up and people
- 5:54Speaker 7: will be able to get home pretty easily, and then
- 5:57Speaker 7: we'll go back to mostly it being the boulevard are
- 6:00Speaker 7: in the mornings, as we get as we get going
- 6:02Speaker 7: through us the rest of the week.
- 6:03Speaker 3: All right, So what I was gonna kind of paint
- 6:05Speaker 3: this little scene for you. Let's say I'm coming off
- 6:09Speaker 3: I sixty four and I am coming to Virginia Street,
- 6:12Speaker 3: and let's just say I have you know I work downtown,
- 6:15Speaker 3: all right? How far can you go down Virginia Street?
- 6:21Speaker 7: So what else say is is, first of all, I've
- 6:23Speaker 7: born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia, so I only
- 6:25Speaker 7: know where like the go marts and those custos, so
- 6:27Speaker 7: I don't know the name of the streets. But so
- 6:28Speaker 7: if you want to get into downtown, I think you're
- 6:30Speaker 7: probably gonna get You're gonna get close to Clintennon Street,
- 6:34Speaker 7: and then you're gonna have to wait for a little
- 6:35Speaker 7: bit to get in if you and be able to
- 6:37Speaker 7: go that way. If you're going to on the other side,
- 6:39Speaker 7: trust Low is probably gonna be where you get stuck
- 6:42Speaker 7: and have to wait to get in.
- 6:43Speaker 4: You're gonna be able to get flagged in.
- 6:45Speaker 7: We actually had to fix an issue this morning, and
- 6:47Speaker 7: thank you to the USA Cycling folks who were able
- 6:49Speaker 7: to move some of the routes around for us to
- 6:51Speaker 7: be able to get in. But you can probably get
- 6:53Speaker 7: to Clintenon for you're gonna get shut down. You're gonna
- 6:55Speaker 7: have to wait. Now, that's that's to be passed through.
- 6:57Speaker 7: The traffic's probably a little bit longer than that, but
- 6:59Speaker 7: that's gonna be the toughest spot to get to and
- 7:01Speaker 7: then get waved in.
- 7:02Speaker 3: All right, Tim, let's go.
- 7:04Speaker 9: I can tell you. I can tell you. I'm actually
- 7:06Speaker 9: standing on Virginia Street in front of the Shanklin Garage
- 7:09Speaker 9: between Court Street and Laidley Street, and traffic on Virginia
- 7:13Speaker 9: is flowing freely. It's a rolling closure. As Matt said,
- 7:17Speaker 9: if you get stuck, you're just gonna have to wait
- 7:19Speaker 9: a few minutes and get flagged through. But I'm actually
- 7:22Speaker 9: standing here watching watching the traffic come through Virginia Street
- 7:26Speaker 9: and accessing downtown Charleston right now.
- 7:29Speaker 3: So how are things going? So far, mister Britty, and
- 7:31Speaker 3: I know that you're out on location, so we may
- 7:33Speaker 3: not keep you on the whole time. I realized that
- 7:35Speaker 3: you're out. You're out amongst them, as we would say
- 7:37Speaker 3: in southern West Virginia. So so so let's talk. Let's
- 7:40Speaker 3: talk about how things are going.
- 7:41Speaker 9: So far, things are going great. And to echo Matt's point,
- 7:45Speaker 9: the USA cycling folks are great to work with. They
- 7:49Speaker 9: helped us out with a traffic issue this morning. But
- 7:52Speaker 9: but things are things are going really well. The weather
- 7:54Speaker 9: is beautiful. As I mentioned earlier, we just had three
- 7:57Speaker 9: waves of paracyclists go off. We have visually impaired riders,
- 8:03Speaker 9: we have amputees, we have riders of different physical abilities
- 8:09Speaker 9: competing on the streets of Charleston this morning, and everything
- 8:12Speaker 9: is going incredibly well because there was a good plan
- 8:15Speaker 9: in place and we're working the plan.
- 8:17Speaker 3: How many riders do you have in this first event?
- 8:20Speaker 3: Approximately this morning, Tim.
- 8:23Speaker 9: About twenty five riders just went off, and then there's
- 8:26Speaker 9: a second second wave that goes off in a bit,
- 8:29Speaker 9: but currently there are about between twenty five and thirty
- 8:32Speaker 9: riders on course.
- 8:34Speaker 3: All right, tell us, and again I had you on
- 8:37Speaker 3: the show last week We've been talking about this to mayor.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Is going to be on the mid day show today,
- 8:41Speaker 3: talk about Tim what a Matt you can follow over that,
- 8:44Speaker 3: What a really huge deal this is for Charleston. We
- 8:46Speaker 3: saw it last year with the debut and it's back again.
- 8:50Speaker 3: It's going to be back for the next couple of years.
- 8:52Speaker 3: Talk about what a big deal this is for Charleston.
- 8:54Speaker 9: Had this year, Well, it's a big deal because this
- 8:57Speaker 9: is the premiere road cycling event of the year for
- 9:01Speaker 9: USA Cycling. It carries with it Olympic qualification components. Even
- 9:06Speaker 9: though it's not an Olympic year. These riders are all
- 9:08Speaker 9: racing for points and rankings. So this all leads to
- 9:12Speaker 9: the twenty twenty eight Olympics. To have an event like
- 9:17Speaker 9: this and all of the eyeballs that it brings in
- 9:19Speaker 9: Charleston is a big deal for a lot of reasons.
- 9:23Speaker 9: You know, it elevates the status of the city. It
- 9:27Speaker 9: exposes a lot of people to the city that may
- 9:29Speaker 9: not have heard about us or thought about us in
- 9:32Speaker 9: that way. You know, the cycling community is a large
- 9:36Speaker 9: and passionate community, So engaging those folks and not only
- 9:40Speaker 9: selling them on cycling in Charleston Charleston. But but everything
- 9:43Speaker 9: else that Charleston has to offer, right, a walkable, fun,
- 9:47Speaker 9: safe city with great restaurants, great breweries, friendly people. I
- 9:52Speaker 9: just was I was actually with with Matt's boss, marry
- 9:56Speaker 9: Me Goodwin. We were talking to a couple from Michigan
- 9:58Speaker 9: who were not here for the race, just happened to
- 9:59Speaker 9: be here staying in the four Points and saw the race,
- 10:03Speaker 9: and we're excited and out taking pictures and enjoying it.
- 10:06Speaker 9: So it's it's hard to put into words why this
- 10:10Speaker 9: is a big deal, But this is a huge deal
- 10:12Speaker 9: for us to host this premier event for five years
- 10:14Speaker 9: in the city of Charleston.
- 10:16Speaker 3: But Dave Alan showing five any line brought to you
- 10:17Speaker 3: apart by Jute Joot security systems protected by Jute dot
- 10:21Speaker 3: com or follow them on Facebook. What has been and
- 10:24Speaker 3: neither one of you can weigh in on this. Matt,
- 10:26Speaker 3: I'll start with you. What has been the reaction to
- 10:29Speaker 3: the people that have come into Charleston, as either the
- 10:31Speaker 3: racers or people that just happened to be here. What
- 10:34Speaker 3: is their take on Charleston Bean Matt.
- 10:36Speaker 7: Oh, I think you know, we've gotten nothing but great
- 10:38Speaker 7: feedback from the cyclist and the entire cycling community that's
- 10:41Speaker 7: been here.
- 10:42Speaker 4: I think that's one of the things that has made
- 10:43Speaker 4: this so easy is is that.
- 10:45Speaker 7: You know, after last year and everybody kind of got
- 10:47Speaker 7: to know each other and we got to working. We
- 10:49Speaker 7: didn't have a whole lot to actually fix or work
- 10:52Speaker 7: on this year because everybody had a good time last year.
- 10:55Speaker 4: The cyclist had a blast. They all enjoyed Charleston.
- 10:58Speaker 7: There was a little bit compl and I guess the
- 11:00Speaker 7: only issue was that maybe the road course was a
- 11:02Speaker 7: little too hard, so they've they adjusted that. But other
- 11:05Speaker 7: than that, I mean, you know, one of the things
- 11:06Speaker 7: that we always gauge too, is we look at people
- 11:08Speaker 7: who who own airbnbs or rentals who are work who
- 11:12Speaker 7: are with the cyclists, and they talk to them, they
- 11:15Speaker 7: get to know them, and they really have enjoyed having
- 11:17Speaker 7: the cyclists there, and the cyclists have nothing but great
- 11:19Speaker 7: things to say about Charleston. I think that's what we
- 11:21Speaker 7: know about Charleston and West Virginia as a whole.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Right, if Secretary of Ruby.
- 11:25Speaker 7: Was here, and I'm sure Tim winecho like, we know,
- 11:28Speaker 7: if we can get people to West Virginia, they're gonna
- 11:30Speaker 7: love it. And that's the same thing that happens in Charleston.
- 11:32Speaker 7: And I think that is one of the things that,
- 11:34Speaker 7: you know, when I think about the excitement of the
- 11:35Speaker 7: race and why it's such a big deal, it's because
- 11:38Speaker 7: we get to show ourselves off. We get to show
- 11:39Speaker 7: ourselves off to people to all across the country who
- 11:42Speaker 7: might have an opinion of West Virginia that they read
- 11:44Speaker 7: on the internet that they've never actually that they've never
- 11:46Speaker 7: actually been.
- 11:47Speaker 4: To people when people.
- 11:48Speaker 3: Walk out their hotel room and say, now, how far
- 11:50Speaker 3: is it to Rona.
- 11:50Speaker 7: That's right, yeah, yeah, and it just changes their entire view,
- 11:54Speaker 7: and it changes their entire perspective of West Virginia. And
- 11:56Speaker 7: I think to you know, to double back on what
- 11:58Speaker 7: Tim said about why this is so important. It is
- 12:01Speaker 7: extremely important for cycling. It's extremely important to have it,
- 12:04Speaker 7: but it's also about the next thing, right, It's about
- 12:06Speaker 7: the people who work for USA Cycling, who go back
- 12:08Speaker 7: and talk to their counterparts who work in other sports
- 12:10Speaker 7: or work in other tours and related activities. It's always
- 12:13Speaker 7: about if we can put our best foot forward, what
- 12:15Speaker 7: can what else can we get and how can we
- 12:17Speaker 7: attract other events like this, maybe one that doesn't close
- 12:21Speaker 7: down our streets for seven days. But how can we
- 12:23Speaker 7: attract other events that really will continue to.
- 12:27Speaker 4: Put Charleston in West Virginia on the map.
- 12:29Speaker 7: And that's really part to me, is what the exciting
- 12:31Speaker 7: part is is that we get the opportunity to show
- 12:34Speaker 7: off our pride in our city, in our state. And
- 12:35Speaker 7: anytime you give Charlestonians or West Virginia's a chance to
- 12:38Speaker 7: do that, we do it with Gusta.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Jim, you want to follow up with that because I'm
- 12:41Speaker 3: gonna let you go because I know you got to
- 12:42Speaker 3: get back to work. Sutton can hang out here all day,
- 12:44Speaker 3: so so go ahead.
- 12:45Speaker 9: Yeah. You know, Matt made a great point in talking
- 12:49Speaker 9: about this leads us to the next thing. You know,
- 12:50Speaker 9: I can draw a straight line. We hosted USA table
- 12:53Speaker 9: Tennis for the Junior Pan American Games, which led us
- 12:57Speaker 9: to a relationship with USA Volleyball. We hosted the men's
- 13:01Speaker 9: Continental Championships here in Charleston, and that relationship is what
- 13:05Speaker 9: led us to USA Cycling. And now we have a
- 13:07Speaker 9: five year commitment for a massive event that's going to
- 13:10Speaker 9: bring tens of thousands of people to our city. So
- 13:13Speaker 9: this tees us up for the next thing, and that
- 13:17Speaker 9: is the other reason that this is important and one
- 13:19Speaker 9: of the reasons that it excites me to host this
- 13:22Speaker 9: race because now we're talking about, Okay, what's this is great?
- 13:25Speaker 9: What's next? And I think what's next is it's going
- 13:28Speaker 9: to be really great stuff. And the other point that
- 13:33Speaker 9: Matt made a moment ago about, you know, we didn't
- 13:34Speaker 9: have a lot of problems to fix from last year.
- 13:37Speaker 9: The great thing about that is it has allowed us
- 13:39Speaker 9: then to look at this year and say, Okay, what
- 13:41Speaker 9: else can we do? How can we amplify this event?
- 13:43Speaker 9: How can we make it more engaging for spectators and locals.
- 13:48Speaker 9: You know, we're doing a ton of activity in slack
- 13:50Speaker 9: Plaza Thursday through Monday, and partnership with ours Amplified, We're
- 13:54Speaker 9: going to have live music five straight days in slack Plaza.
- 13:57Speaker 9: The city is hosting live on the Levy on Friday
- 13:59Speaker 9: night and injunction with the Evening Criteria. So a successful
- 14:04Speaker 9: year one gives us more opportunity in year two because
- 14:08Speaker 9: we didn't have a lot to fix, So let's add
- 14:09Speaker 9: some more stuff. And I think people are going to
- 14:12Speaker 9: be really excited by what they find when they come
- 14:14Speaker 9: downtown this year because there is so much more fan
- 14:17Speaker 9: engagement and spectator engagement than last year. And last year
- 14:21Speaker 9: was great, this year is going to be even better.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Tim, I'm gonna go and let you go. We'll go
- 14:25Speaker 3: to break. We'll be checking in with you throughout the week.
- 14:27Speaker 3: You know, all you gotta do is give us a
- 14:29Speaker 3: call or stop by the studio, whatever you need to
- 14:31Speaker 3: do throughout the week. Tim, from the Charleston Convention Visitor Bureau.
- 14:33Speaker 3: I appreciate you being here, man, Thanks a lot.
- 14:35Speaker 9: Thanks, Dave, I appreciate you man.
- 14:37Speaker 3: All right, Tim Brady, but Dave Allen showing five any
- 14:39Speaker 3: line brought to you apart by your hometown baseball team,

- 17:37Speaker 3: It's a pleasure to have you on the show. So
- 17:39Speaker 3: how are things going out there from your perspective, because
- 17:41Speaker 3: there's there's just a little bit of work that goes
- 17:43Speaker 3: into this, you know, for the for the police department.
- 17:45Speaker 8: That's that's the rumor, that's the rumor. Yeah, actually, yes,
- 17:48Speaker 8: very hard work goes into this for for several months.
- 17:51Speaker 8: And I just talked to our our officer who Lieutenant
- 17:55Speaker 8: Kevin Oldham, he's the one who's been kind of headlining
- 17:58Speaker 8: this thing for the Safety and Secure now spoke with
- 18:00Speaker 8: him so far he says everything is going pretty well.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Got to Danny Jones from Charleston Mayr's with us in studios. Well,
- 18:07Speaker 3: Danny and I are going to talk about some things
- 18:08Speaker 3: a little bit later on the show. But Danny, I'm
- 18:10Speaker 3: going to go back to your reporter skills here. All right,
- 18:13Speaker 3: you just showed up here. What do you got out there?
- 18:15Speaker 3: What's what's your eyewitness report?
- 18:16Speaker 14: Well, walking over here at fifteen at nine o'clock, you
- 18:23Speaker 14: couldn't move east or excuse me, going west on Quarrier
- 18:27Speaker 14: Street right there in front of the Alice Building. In
- 18:30Speaker 14: the corner of dunbar. They were fighting to see who
- 18:33Speaker 14: could turn left, you know what I mean, And it
- 18:36Speaker 14: was really difficult. But now it's clear as can be.
- 18:39Speaker 3: All right, and Chief, let's talk about that about drivers
- 18:43Speaker 3: and patients while this thing is going on. You know,
- 18:45Speaker 3: patience is a virtue, but in our modern times, not
- 18:48Speaker 3: a lot of us present company included, have it. What
- 18:51Speaker 3: would your advice be to people?
- 18:52Speaker 8: I agree with you. I think a lot of us
- 18:54Speaker 8: do not have the patients. But obviously we would ask
- 18:57Speaker 8: everybody to try to take the extra time to get
- 19:00Speaker 8: here into town, especially for this whole week, but over
- 19:05Speaker 8: the next few days it's going to be pretty busy
- 19:06Speaker 8: in the morning, so yes, we asked, We really ask
- 19:10Speaker 8: everyone just to be patient, try to allow yourself some
- 19:12Speaker 8: extra time to get here. Obviously, our main goals are
- 19:17Speaker 8: the safety and security of not just the bicyclist, but
- 19:20Speaker 8: motorsts and pedestrians as well, and you can allow yourself
- 19:22Speaker 8: some extra time. It'll make it so much easier on everybody,
- 19:25Speaker 8: including you. And I'm sure your boss would would glad.
- 19:28Speaker 8: You've been glad to be be at work on time,
- 19:30Speaker 8: So just just try to exercise patience.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Well, and Matt said it a little bit earlier. This
- 19:34Speaker 3: is not what it's going to look like for the
- 19:36Speaker 3: rest of the week for the most part. I mean,
- 19:39Speaker 3: this is I mean the I hate to say the
- 19:41Speaker 3: worst of the days, but this is probably going to
- 19:43Speaker 3: be one of those where where people come in town
- 19:46Speaker 3: are going to be the most impacted at this time
- 19:48Speaker 3: of day.
- 19:48Speaker 8: That is correct, Yes, today and tomorrow are going to
- 19:50Speaker 8: be the busiest in the mornings and then it kind
- 19:53Speaker 8: of calms down throughout the mornings the rest of the week.
- 19:56Speaker 8: But again, we just asked everybody to exercise patients and
- 19:59Speaker 8: try to work with us, and we'll get you there.
- 20:01Speaker 8: It just may and may take a few extra minutes.
- 20:04Speaker 3: How are you handling the situation with people that do
- 20:07Speaker 3: have to work downtown. I mean, you know that they
- 20:10Speaker 3: can't call in or whatever they got to get to
- 20:11Speaker 3: that downtown law firm or bank or whatever the case
- 20:14Speaker 3: may be. I mean, how much work have you have
- 20:16Speaker 3: you put into that?
- 20:17Speaker 8: Well, First and foremost, we had worked with our media
- 20:20Speaker 8: relations folks, especially Tena Stinson and our public information officer,
- 20:26Speaker 8: trying to get out the word, let them know the
- 20:28Speaker 8: roots that are available and how you can get into
- 20:31Speaker 8: town and those who are kind of stuck, you know,
- 20:35Speaker 8: on the hotspots, we try to tell them literally physically
- 20:40Speaker 8: tell them, hey, you may not be able to go here,
- 20:42Speaker 8: but if you go this route, we get you in.
- 20:44Speaker 8: So again, if you exercise that time and patience, you
- 20:48Speaker 8: can get to work. If you are stuck in traffic,
- 20:51Speaker 8: we'll do our best to get there. But obviously safety
- 20:54Speaker 8: and security for the bicyclist are is paramount for us.
- 20:57Speaker 3: Talk about how from a a parking standpoint, how you're
- 21:01Speaker 3: handling things, because I know, Matt you can weigh in
- 21:04Speaker 3: on this as well. That parking on the boulevard does
- 21:06Speaker 3: a lot of folks that do park on the boulevard.
- 21:07Speaker 3: That's pretty much out I think at this at this point,
- 21:10Speaker 3: what about We had to out of text actually from
- 21:12Speaker 3: a friend of mine prior to the show that worked
- 21:14Speaker 3: downtown and he wanted me to ask about about ticket writing.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I mean, is that something you've taken into consideration. I mean,
- 21:21Speaker 3: obviously if people are blocking the races, that's a different story.
- 21:24Speaker 3: But just your your regular parking meter violation chief.
- 21:29Speaker 8: We are very taxed. We're very taxed right now with
- 21:32Speaker 8: our with our manpower, so normally we don't write a
- 21:36Speaker 8: whole lot of parking tickets. That that's up to the
- 21:38Speaker 8: parking department. Okay, so I can't really speak for them,
- 21:40Speaker 8: but I know, but I know as far as the
- 21:41Speaker 8: ausers go, Yeah, we're going to practice some leniency on
- 21:44Speaker 8: some of those things unless it's just completely egregious or that's.
- 21:47Speaker 3: What people that are you know, moving barrels or you know,
- 21:51Speaker 3: barriers or whatever.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Matt, Yeah, I mean, the parking department is going to
- 21:54Speaker 4: do the same thing.
- 21:54Speaker 7: They're going to use their some discretion based on what's
- 21:58Speaker 7: going on the time of day and where is you
- 22:00Speaker 7: know tomorrow, Tomorrow during midday, there's not going to be
- 22:03Speaker 7: a whole lot of closures, so we're going to be
- 22:04Speaker 7: enforcing parking. But today they're going to be pretty lenient.
- 22:07Speaker 7: And as we get into the weekend where we have
- 22:08Speaker 7: the road races, they'll be pretty lenient because their staff
- 22:11Speaker 7: is a little bit taxed as well. But I will say,
- 22:14Speaker 7: you know, this year, you know, there is no parking
- 22:15Speaker 7: on the boulevard, but the boulevard is completely clear this morning,
- 22:18Speaker 7: which is you know, a testament to what you've talked
- 22:21Speaker 7: about was sort of the outreach that our entire team
- 22:23Speaker 7: did to get out and make sure that we didn't
- 22:25Speaker 7: have to you know, toe anybody or track down of
- 22:27Speaker 7: owners like we did last year. It was completely clear.
- 22:30Speaker 7: So I would think today there'll be a lot of
- 22:32Speaker 7: discretion given to parking, especially in the downtown area. But
- 22:36Speaker 7: as the week gets going on, I wouldn't use it
- 22:38Speaker 7: as an excuse to just park wherever you want for
- 22:40Speaker 7: however long you want, because we will have to have
- 22:42Speaker 7: closures and stuff as it goes on, so we'll have
- 22:44Speaker 7: to keep people moving. Most of the parking garages or
- 22:48Speaker 7: places you park downtown, you know the rest of this
- 22:50Speaker 7: week are going to be easily accessible in the morning.
- 22:53Speaker 3: But Dave Iland Chilling five any Live is brought to

- 23:08Speaker 3: I've got a text here somebody asking about the Run
- 23:10Speaker 3: for the Wall. Now, the Run for the Wall is
- 23:11Speaker 3: going to be in Valley Park in Putnam County on Wednesday,
- 23:14Speaker 3: night and someone asks how this is going to work
- 23:16Speaker 3: with the run through the Wall? Is it actually coming
- 23:18Speaker 3: through Charleston though, because it's actually headed to Putnam County.
- 23:21Speaker 3: I mean, what's the what's the plan there?
- 23:22Speaker 8: Yeah, so their plan usually is to they either stop
- 23:26Speaker 8: at Nightro or Valley Park then they make their way
- 23:29Speaker 8: here to the capital. So okay, so the respect that, okay,
- 23:32Speaker 8: So yeah, so we'll definitely work with getting them through.
- 23:35Speaker 8: That's a very important event for us. We like to
- 23:37Speaker 8: see them come into town. And I think it especially
- 23:40Speaker 8: for a lot of other people, they.
- 23:41Speaker 14: Like to a question.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Yeah, wall, this is the traveling Vietnam, the Vietnam Memorial Wall.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I guess it's it's been, it's in Valley Park. It's
- 23:51Speaker 3: kind of as Chief said Danny, it's kind of gone
- 23:53Speaker 3: back and forth between Nitro and Valley Park in Hurricane
- 23:57Speaker 3: and it's going to be in Hurricane this year. This
- 23:59Speaker 3: is the and and a lot of motorcyclists come through.
- 24:02Speaker 3: I mean how many how many motorcycles would you would
- 24:04Speaker 3: you imagine that there are.
- 24:06Speaker 8: One hundreds, if not thousands. There's a lot of people
- 24:09Speaker 8: that come in and what they do they hit stopping points,
- 24:12Speaker 8: They stop at hurric and stay tonight.
- 24:14Speaker 3: They started in California, right, They started all the way
- 24:16Speaker 3: on the west. Yeah, they started. They started somewhere on
- 24:19Speaker 3: the west coast, and people will kind of join along
- 24:21Speaker 3: the way, and then eventually they end up at Arlington, right.
- 24:24Speaker 8: At the Vietnam Memorial, right, Yeah, Memorial, A.
- 24:30Speaker 9: D C and d C.
- 24:31Speaker 3: Yeah, that's where they end up.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Danny.
- 24:32Speaker 3: So if you wanted to go out and buy a motorcycle,
- 24:34Speaker 3: will be a good time to do it, Danny.
- 24:36Speaker 14: I don't think so.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Did you ever have a motorcycle?
- 24:39Speaker 15: Dan?
- 24:39Speaker 3: Yes, I was gonna say, I have no doubt you
- 24:41Speaker 3: had a motorcycle.
- 24:41Speaker 14: Yeah, I had two, and I rode one, uh Philadelphian back.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Yeah, and I want to apologize. I was thinking about
- 24:49Speaker 3: being in Putnam County. Somebody said it always always comes
- 24:52Speaker 3: to Charleston. I wasn't thinking about that. I was talking
- 24:54Speaker 3: about the big event over there. But yeah, the texture
- 24:56Speaker 3: is absolutely, absolutely right.
- 25:00Speaker 7: And to add to that, you know, the chief said
- 25:02Speaker 7: that we'll work with them to get them where they need.
- 25:04Speaker 4: You know.
- 25:05Speaker 7: Part of that too is that you know, we have
- 25:07Speaker 7: a obviously the Charleston Police Department, Charleston Fire Department, but
- 25:10Speaker 7: we certainly have to thank the Department of Highways with
- 25:12Speaker 7: the state for all the work they help us with with.
- 25:14Speaker 4: This event as well.
- 25:14Speaker 7: I mean, it's a you've got to imagine this takes
- 25:17Speaker 7: a whole lot of effort. And you know, I know
- 25:19Speaker 7: Chief and Chief Matthews with the fire department. We rely
- 25:21Speaker 7: on some outside agency services as well, from the Kenwall
- 25:24Speaker 7: County Sheriff's Office, the Kenwall County Amien's Authority, South Charleston
- 25:28Speaker 7: Police and Fire and other area police and fires to
- 25:30Speaker 7: be on alert and be helpful for you know, if
- 25:33Speaker 7: anything is needed, if we have a fire someplace, or
- 25:35Speaker 7: we have places where we need officers to help cover
- 25:38Speaker 7: the city as well. So it is a it is
- 25:39Speaker 7: a complete community effort. It's in Charleston, but this thing
- 25:43Speaker 7: stretches all across this region in order to make it happen.
- 25:47Speaker 7: So anything we can do to help out others, we're
- 25:48Speaker 7: happy to do as well.
- 25:49Speaker 3: And we have graduations yes this week.
- 25:52Speaker 7: Yeah, we have graduations this week called Sana Convention Center,
- 25:55Speaker 7: which you should be pretty good for. If you're coming
- 25:56Speaker 7: from the interstate from the seventy nine and seventy seven,
- 26:00Speaker 7: I guess you'll be in pretty good shape getting off
- 26:02Speaker 7: the exit and being able to get right into the coliseum.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Okay, guys, so we had a text about that last week.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Everybody's kind of concerned about which is understandable. I mean,
- 26:08Speaker 3: you can understand people don't like when you screw with
- 26:10Speaker 3: their routines. Man, No, I mean, I think we're all
- 26:12Speaker 3: creatures a habit.
- 26:13Speaker 7: We drive one way in, one way out our entire lives,
- 26:16Speaker 7: and then when that way is blocked, we got to
- 26:17Speaker 7: figure out how to get around, and we forget we've
- 26:19Speaker 7: lived here most of our lives. It can be confusing,
- 26:21Speaker 7: but it really always just it. Probably at most after
- 26:25Speaker 7: you get through this morning at three four minute delay,
- 26:27Speaker 7: there's not going to be a whole lot.
- 26:28Speaker 4: You know, we learned a lot last year.
- 26:30Speaker 7: Last year we were overly cautious, which we should have been,
- 26:32Speaker 7: and this year we're still overly cautious, but with a
- 26:34Speaker 7: little bit more lax in terms of what we learned
- 26:36Speaker 7: last year of how we can, let you know, some
- 26:39Speaker 7: some hard closures turn into soft closures and stuff like that.
- 26:42Speaker 7: It is we learned a lot last year, and the
- 26:45Speaker 7: same thing is going to be true with the paracycling.
- 26:47Speaker 4: What's happening today This time next.
- 26:48Speaker 7: Year won't be happening because we're going to learn something
- 26:50Speaker 7: from it and be able to adjust. It's just as
- 26:53Speaker 7: Chief said, the safety of the riders and safety of
- 26:56Speaker 7: the drivers as well and everybody involved as paramount, and
- 26:59Speaker 7: if that means having wait a couple extra minutes, that's
- 27:01Speaker 7: worth it to make sure everybody get through safely and
- 27:04Speaker 7: allow us to learn as we get we get going
- 27:06Speaker 7: in the week.
- 27:06Speaker 4: In the years with this, because this is just year two,
- 27:09Speaker 4: we got three more after this.
- 27:11Speaker 3: So we spent a lot of time talking about folks
- 27:13Speaker 3: coming into downtown Charleston for appointments or to go to
- 27:16Speaker 3: work or whatever. Let's talk about the residential neighborhoods because
- 27:19Speaker 3: there's some folks up in South Hills and places like that.
- 27:21Speaker 3: It's going to impact them as well, and a lot
- 27:25Speaker 3: of work has gone into that.
- 27:26Speaker 8: Chief Yeah, and it's pretty much the same thing. We
- 27:29Speaker 8: were trying our best to get it out, you know,
- 27:32Speaker 8: get the information out early on. That way people are
- 27:35Speaker 8: aware and they know when things are being shut down
- 27:38Speaker 8: and how things are being shut down. And again, we
- 27:41Speaker 8: just don't want to keep people home. If they need
- 27:43Speaker 8: to get out and about, well, we'll definitely work with
- 27:45Speaker 8: them as best we can, and we just ask for patients.
- 27:48Speaker 7: Matt, Yeah, I mean it's the same things we had
- 27:51Speaker 7: last year. You know that when we were first envisioned
- 27:54Speaker 7: this in our mind, especially in the residential neighborhoods, we
- 27:56Speaker 7: assumed we were gonna have streets shut down for an
- 27:58Speaker 7: entire day. But once you look at the race and
- 28:00Speaker 7: you talk with the race folks, and you realize that
- 28:02Speaker 7: these folks, the writers, are traveling impacts, so as the
- 28:05Speaker 7: pack goes along, it's going to take them several minutes
- 28:08Speaker 7: before they get back to that area. So we're able
- 28:10Speaker 7: to open the streets back up and let people drive through.
- 28:12Speaker 7: We just asked that residents listen to the police officers
- 28:17Speaker 7: or or.
- 28:17Speaker 4: The volunteers that are there. I know we're using our.
- 28:19Speaker 7: NAO officers for a lot of things, and even volunteers
- 28:22Speaker 7: with the race staff, but really it's going to be.
- 28:24Speaker 4: A few minute delay.
- 28:25Speaker 7: There are very very few hard closures in the residential
- 28:29Speaker 7: areas and those have all been put out there. I mean,
- 28:31Speaker 7: I think the communication work that you've talked about is true.
- 28:34Speaker 7: You know, we had a slam packed morning. Sorry, at
- 28:37Speaker 7: about eight thirty eight o'clock, eight thirty this morning. Well
- 28:40Speaker 7: that's because we taught everybody to get in before nine,
- 28:42Speaker 7: and everybody tried and it just took a little bit
- 28:44Speaker 7: more time. But as I said, the teen of this morning,
- 28:46Speaker 7: we at least people listen. I mean they listened to
- 28:48Speaker 7: what we said, which was to try to get in
- 28:51Speaker 7: before nine. And I think that that that that worked
- 28:53Speaker 7: out well, even though yes, the traffic was there, Getting
- 28:57Speaker 7: people in and getting everybody safe is key. But as
- 29:00Speaker 7: us the week goes, it's really going to be a
- 29:02Speaker 7: few minute delay that you'll have to wait. But then
- 29:05Speaker 7: we ask and we beg don't try to make up
- 29:08Speaker 7: that few minutes by driving faster, because you might run
- 29:10Speaker 7: into another stop, or you might run into another area
- 29:12Speaker 7: where you got to slow down, especially in the residential neighborhoods.
- 29:15Speaker 7: Like let's just it's you know it is. It is
- 29:18Speaker 7: some inconvenience and I appreciate that and know it. But
- 29:21Speaker 7: you know, as what Tim and I were talking about earlier,
- 29:23Speaker 7: I think for the folks in Charleston to realize what
- 29:25Speaker 7: we're what you're part of, and what we're able to
- 29:27Speaker 7: do if we can, you know, do what we did
- 29:29Speaker 7: last year and have an event that is that is
- 29:31Speaker 7: fairly incident free, uh, and be able to show these folks,
- 29:34Speaker 7: you know, our best foot forward terms of our patients
- 29:36Speaker 7: and our support. And we're just going to keep getting
- 29:38Speaker 7: larger events and we're going to keep keep getting these
- 29:40Speaker 7: type of folks in to have the excitement because there
- 29:42Speaker 7: is a lot of excitement in fun around us. There
- 29:44Speaker 7: is a few minute delay in traffic, but there's a
- 29:46Speaker 7: lot going on in town to enjoy as well.
- 29:48Speaker 8: And David, if I could add to that, not only
- 29:51Speaker 8: do we have the USA Cyclist here, but it also
- 29:53Speaker 8: brings out people who want to get on their bikes.
- 29:55Speaker 8: You know, if they live here, if they visit here,
- 29:57Speaker 8: they also want to get on their bikes just to
- 29:59Speaker 8: kind of be involved, Yeah, and get around. It does
- 30:01Speaker 8: make it easier to get around, So we asked people
- 30:03Speaker 8: to really watch what you're doing when you're driving because
- 30:07Speaker 8: there's going to be extra bicyclists out in the residential
- 30:10Speaker 8: areas in the normal other city areas. And as I
- 30:13Speaker 8: was coming in this morning to your station, I noticed
- 30:16Speaker 8: one of the paracyclists that was on one of the
- 30:20Speaker 8: roads that were not blocked off. They're very hard to
- 30:22Speaker 8: see because they sit really low to the ground and
- 30:26Speaker 8: you can see their flag, which is usually bright orange
- 30:29Speaker 8: or bright yellow or green. So again we just tell
- 30:31Speaker 8: people just pay attention, take your time, move slow, and
- 30:35Speaker 8: give them the right of way if they can.
- 30:37Speaker 3: I had a text here that said, you know how
- 30:38Speaker 3: the saw the graduation situation. Have them at the schools
- 30:41Speaker 3: like all of us had not downtown.
- 30:44Speaker 4: Well, that's a different guests for that.
- 30:47Speaker 14: Yeah, yeah, that's not true. I've graduated before some people
- 30:51Speaker 14: were born, and I graduated at Civic Center. Okay, well,
- 30:55Speaker 14: and Jared graduates to thirty from the Civic Center.
- 30:59Speaker 3: We're cool, man Son, all right, Chief and well, Chief
- 31:04Speaker 3: and chief. I guess I know you guys have got
- 31:06Speaker 3: to take off.
- 31:06Speaker 4: We're gonna be.
- 31:07Speaker 3: Hearing from you throughout the week. Anytime you want to
- 31:09Speaker 3: come in, just stop by the studio, give me a
- 31:11Speaker 3: text or whatever. Just just walk on in. I mean,
- 31:13Speaker 3: you're a police officer. You pretty much wuch you want.
- 31:15Speaker 3: All right, So Matt, any final one, ye.
- 31:18Speaker 7: I think if you, if you can, please please follow
- 31:20Speaker 7: the City Charleston on Facebook and throughout social media, and
- 31:24Speaker 7: and it is it is as up to minute alerts
- 31:26Speaker 7: and that we can provide out there that we can
- 31:29Speaker 7: get moving forward. You know, we're doing a great job
- 31:31Speaker 7: setting out communication. You know, I had a friend of
- 31:34Speaker 7: mine who was complaining about that the emails were too long,
- 31:37Speaker 7: but then he didn't know where to go, and I said, well,
- 31:38Speaker 7: then read the email like I mean, and you know,
- 31:40Speaker 7: read the information that's being provided to you. And make
- 31:43Speaker 7: sure you're following social media because if there are changes,
- 31:45Speaker 7: we'll we'll update it in real time so that people
- 31:47Speaker 7: can get to where they want to get. And again
- 31:49Speaker 7: we just you know, for this first few days, beg
- 31:52Speaker 7: patience and understanding and getting things going. And then as
- 31:56Speaker 7: we get into this week, come Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday,
- 31:59Speaker 7: come down to go up the South Hills to watch
- 32:01Speaker 7: the race, Go to Warts Avenue and get some fish
- 32:03Speaker 7: from Minni Leonard. Go out and enjoy this and show
- 32:07Speaker 7: the pride and Charleston that we have, but really just
- 32:09Speaker 7: enjoy the enjoy the time. These are world class athletes
- 32:12Speaker 7: and we won't We don't get to see this very often.
- 32:14Speaker 7: Most people don't have this opportunity, so make sure you
- 32:17Speaker 7: take advantage of it and come out, whether you're downtown
- 32:19Speaker 7: or in your neighborhood, or you go to one of
- 32:21Speaker 7: the watch parties on Wartz or South Hills.
- 32:23Speaker 4: You know, make sure you have some fun with it.
- 32:25Speaker 4: It's going to be a good time.
- 32:26Speaker 8: Chief, I feel what he's saying. It is going to
- 32:29Speaker 8: be a good time. We love to have these events.
- 32:31Speaker 8: The police department loves a good challenge for vehicles, traffic
- 32:36Speaker 8: and pedestrian traffic, so we're always up for it. But
- 32:39Speaker 8: you know, these events in the city just it makes
- 32:41Speaker 8: everything vibrant and we're just gonad to be a part
- 32:43Speaker 8: of it.
- 32:43Speaker 3: All right, guys, appreciate you both being here. Thanks a lot,
- 32:47Speaker 3: Good luck out there, be careful out there, absolutely all right.

- 35:06Speaker 3: That they had a text here from someone that said,
- 35:08Speaker 3: you're coming downtown. If it all possible, just take the interstate.
- 35:11Speaker 3: That's what I did coming from Putnam County this morning,
- 35:14Speaker 3: and I just just stayed on the interstates and got
- 35:17Speaker 3: off on Leon Sullivan Way and had pretty much straight
- 35:19Speaker 3: shot here to where I am. Doesn't do you any
- 35:22Speaker 3: good if you're down the street a little bit, but
- 35:23Speaker 3: I'm saying where I am Danny Jones is hanging out
- 35:26Speaker 3: with this morning, good morning, exciting stuff man in Charleston.
- 35:30Speaker 14: This good stuff bring people in, put some heads and
- 35:33Speaker 14: some beds.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Heads and beds, man heads and beds, and people dining
- 35:38Speaker 3: in the restaurants and staying in the hotels and airbnbs
- 35:40Speaker 3: and so on and so forth. And that's the thing
- 35:43Speaker 3: I like about this event too. Like a lot of
- 35:45Speaker 3: other events, Danny's, this is not just a Charleston event.
- 35:48Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, this is where everything's taking place. But
- 35:50Speaker 3: you've got hotels in Huntington, in Barbersville, up the Elkview
- 35:55Speaker 3: to Tay's Valley that they are all books solid right
- 35:57Speaker 3: now because of these things. And it helps out the
- 36:00Speaker 3: local economy. And yet and it's not only the writers, man,
- 36:03Speaker 3: I mean, this thing is always being documented world cycling
- 36:07Speaker 3: magazines are here and online, it's all being filmed. It'll
- 36:10Speaker 3: be streamed somewhere. So this is a pretty big deal
- 36:13Speaker 3: for Charleston.
- 36:14Speaker 4: It really is.
- 36:14Speaker 14: It really is.
- 36:15Speaker 3: The news came out Danny switching gears here yesterday that
- 36:18Speaker 3: former President Joe Biden has a very aggressive form of
- 36:22Speaker 3: prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is something that you know a
- 36:27Speaker 3: lot about you're a prostate cancer survivor. The prognosis considering
- 36:33Speaker 3: how far along this is from the former president, and
- 36:35Speaker 3: it's now spread to his bones, they say, and his age,
- 36:39Speaker 3: it's the prognosis is not is really not good, Danny Well.
- 36:44Speaker 14: I was reading at the time this morning, and they
- 36:47Speaker 14: had some guy that says he might be able to
- 36:49Speaker 14: live three to five to seven years. And I'm not
- 36:53Speaker 14: seeing that. Once it gets in the bones. To keep
- 36:58Speaker 14: him alive, they're gonna have to do some radical chemotherapy
- 37:03Speaker 14: and some radiation. And if you think he looked bad before,
- 37:09Speaker 14: he's really gonna look bad. And that's why in twenty twelve,
- 37:15Speaker 14: since I had my kids late in life, I thought
- 37:18Speaker 14: i'd have mine removed so i'd be alive now, because
- 37:24Speaker 14: there's a good chance I wouldn't have made it. In
- 37:27Speaker 14: other words, I had to cancer in twenty twelve, I
- 37:29Speaker 14: might have made it ten years.
- 37:32Speaker 3: What was the you can share as little or as
- 37:35Speaker 3: much as you want. What was your treatment?
- 37:38Speaker 2: Like?
- 37:39Speaker 14: Painful? Very painful? And then I had to spend two
- 37:43Speaker 14: weeks at home and people came and visited me.
- 37:47Speaker 3: And you're still running a city at that time, too.
- 37:49Speaker 8: Yes, I just.
- 37:51Speaker 14: Stayed at home and worked the phone, and I remember
- 37:56Speaker 14: the people that came to visit me. It was just
- 37:58Speaker 14: kind of nice. You know. I sit there and watch
- 38:02Speaker 14: I'd never watched pond Stars before I got kind of
- 38:05Speaker 14: hooked on pond Stars. But it's very painful. The kind
- 38:13Speaker 14: I had. What I would recommend if you can do
- 38:18Speaker 14: it is the seed and that's the least invasive, and
- 38:25Speaker 14: they do it and wheeling, and I have friends that
- 38:28Speaker 14: do it. And you're you come back almost whole, almost
- 38:32Speaker 14: completely whole.
- 38:33Speaker 3: And you were given a complete clean bill of health.
- 38:35Speaker 14: Oh yeah, I don't have any cancer.
- 38:37Speaker 3: Now do you have to go back? I mean obviously,
- 38:40Speaker 3: I mean you go back when when we get to
- 38:42Speaker 3: be a certain age myself included, you have to go
- 38:44Speaker 3: for the tests and so on and so forth. But
- 38:47Speaker 3: as part of what you went through, then do you
- 38:49Speaker 3: have like an elevated risk for currents or I guess
- 38:53Speaker 3: you keep you.
- 38:54Speaker 14: Not since I took it out right, Okay, if I'd
- 38:56Speaker 14: had radiation, then it could have it could have come back.
- 39:01Speaker 3: But a violand showing five Dyeline brought to you apart
- 39:03Speaker 3: by Husband's Pizza. This month, get a large etenach pepperoni

- 39:12Speaker 14: Anybody can get cancer, yeah, in any part of your body.
- 39:15Speaker 14: Yeah yeah, and uh get leukemia. You can, uh, you
- 39:22Speaker 14: can get cancer anywhere. And so when you get my age,
- 39:26Speaker 14: you know, I'll be seventy five in August, and you
- 39:29Speaker 14: don't know. I mean, it could, it could raise its
- 39:32Speaker 14: head anywhere.
- 39:34Speaker 3: And of course, sadly this is where we are right now.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Everything is political, including this. The statement came sometime I
- 39:41Speaker 3: guess late yesterday afternoon something like this when I first
- 39:44Speaker 3: got an alert about it from one of the news
- 39:45Speaker 3: services on my phone, and immediately and I'm trying not
- 39:51Speaker 3: to be too negative here, Danny, but everybody takes it
- 39:55Speaker 3: and runs with it as far as the political aspect
- 39:57Speaker 3: of it. And then your social media feed pops up
- 40:00Speaker 3: with well, regardless of how how you feel, whether you
- 40:03Speaker 3: supported former President Biden or didn't, he needs thoughts and prayers,
- 40:06Speaker 3: and that's followed, which I agree with. Then that's followed
- 40:10Speaker 3: by well, fill in blank here because of the open border,
- 40:14Speaker 3: how many people has been in this like I mean
- 40:16Speaker 3: we are we freaking serious right now, but that's just
- 40:19Speaker 3: where we are.
- 40:20Speaker 14: Yeah, he will, this is not going to be of
- 40:24Speaker 14: course I didn't have to do chemo, but they say
- 40:28Speaker 14: that's not fun either.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:30Speaker 3: I actually worked with a gentleman that he was a
- 40:34Speaker 3: few years older than I was, that went through prostate
- 40:36Speaker 3: cancer at a radio station, and he did the chemo
- 40:40Speaker 3: and really he really struggled with that aspect of it,
- 40:44Speaker 3: I think more than the disease itself. And he later
- 40:47Speaker 3: told us and since passed, he said, if I had
- 40:50Speaker 3: to do it over again, I wouldn't have taken the therapy.
- 40:52Speaker 3: I wouldn't have taken the chemo.
- 40:53Speaker 14: Just let it run.
- 40:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 14: Well, I I'll say this much. I'm pretty transparent guy.
- 41:04Speaker 14: I had trouble going to the bathroom, and I would
- 41:08Speaker 14: remember flomax.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Yeah I had heard that term in a while.
- 41:12Speaker 14: But yeah, I was taken two a day just so
- 41:14Speaker 14: i'd go to the bathroom. And so I had to
- 41:18Speaker 14: do something right, Yeah, because it's it's you feel like
- 41:22Speaker 14: you have to go to the bathroom and then you can't, right,
- 41:24Speaker 14: So it's it's not very comfortable. So and if you
- 41:29Speaker 14: reach eighty five, two out of three men get it.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, it's just it's yeah, it's it's it's a
- 41:35Speaker 3: sad fact of life.
- 41:36Speaker 14: One last thing. Yeah, most people die with it, and
- 41:39Speaker 14: and Biden could die with it. It may not kill him,
- 41:44Speaker 14: he could die some other way. I mean, guy's eighty
- 41:46Speaker 14: two years old.
- 41:47Speaker 3: What do you make of And again, I almost feel
- 41:51Speaker 3: bad bringing this up following the diagnosis, But this is
- 41:53Speaker 3: what I was going to talk to you about before
- 41:57Speaker 3: his cancer diagnosis came out yesterday. Now, the book you know,
- 42:00Speaker 3: that's been written by Jake Tapper and others, and it
- 42:03Speaker 3: was all the talk on all of the Sunday morning shows.
- 42:05Speaker 3: I was watching yesterday Your thoughts.
- 42:08Speaker 14: I do audio books. Yeah, I ordered it a week ago,
- 42:12Speaker 14: so I'll be listening to it this week. I'll get
- 42:15Speaker 14: it down this week and maybe I'll come in and
- 42:18Speaker 14: do a review for you.
- 42:19Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll talk about it next week. So, I mean,
- 42:22Speaker 3: overall and a lot of people, Danny c. It is
- 42:25Speaker 3: very hypocritical that Jake Tapper was one of the authors
- 42:28Speaker 3: of this book considering and I have not seen it yet,
- 42:32Speaker 3: but a friend of mine this morning was telling me
- 42:34Speaker 3: that there is a clip on YouTube of all of
- 42:36Speaker 3: the ways that Jake Tapper from CNN, like a two
- 42:41Speaker 3: minute clip or so. And again I haven't seen it,
- 42:43Speaker 3: but it was like a two minute clip of him
- 42:46Speaker 3: saying the president is okay, and he was complicit in
- 42:50Speaker 3: the cover up.
- 42:51Speaker 14: So I don't know about that. He was. He's an anchor.
- 42:55Speaker 14: He stays in the studio. He didn't go out and
- 42:59Speaker 14: do reporting. He didn't see the guy.
- 43:01Speaker 3: But on the clip, and again I probably shouldn't have
- 43:03Speaker 3: brought it up till I actually, but a friend of
- 43:06Speaker 3: mine and I'll get it and I'll try to send
- 43:07Speaker 3: it to you said that. On the clip. It's all
- 43:09Speaker 3: the ways of him saying, you know, he's find the president's.
- 43:14Speaker 14: Number one, He didn't know number two he worked for.
- 43:18Speaker 3: How could I and I get to see an n part.
- 43:20Speaker 3: How could anybody, though, watch any speech that Joe Biden
- 43:25Speaker 3: gave in the last six to eight months, you know,
- 43:28Speaker 3: when he was still in the campaign. How could anybody
- 43:30Speaker 3: watch any of that and think he was okay?
- 43:32Speaker 14: Last sixty eight months, last three to four years. Yeah,
- 43:35Speaker 14: when he first got in office, I was in here
- 43:38Speaker 14: a lot more often. I said he's infirm, he wasn't
- 43:42Speaker 14: suited for the job. When he first got it. We
- 43:45Speaker 14: don't have to elect people that old. And I don't
- 43:47Speaker 14: know what that what that's all about.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Well, and again I think a lot of it has
- 43:51Speaker 3: to do too with with it's you know, it's the
- 43:55Speaker 3: tribalism that we everybody digs our heels in. You're not
- 43:57Speaker 3: going to talk about our guy. And I I say
- 44:00Speaker 3: this is good break. I applaud. And there's a few
- 44:02Speaker 3: of them out there, the Democrats that stood up and
- 44:06Speaker 3: said this is not a good idea. He should not
- 44:08Speaker 3: be the delegate Kaylee Young being one of them for
- 44:11Speaker 3: right here in the Kanoff Valley that took all kinds
- 44:14Speaker 3: of crap on social media from her fellow Democrats because
- 44:17Speaker 3: she said this is not a good idea.
- 44:20Speaker 14: Carvil one. But George Clooney came to the party late
- 44:25Speaker 14: because he saw him in June and didn't write the
- 44:27Speaker 14: column until July.

- 48:51Speaker 3: Well, let's keep in mind that our current president spends
- 48:53Speaker 3: a whole lot of time at mar Lagotic practically every weekend.
- 48:56Speaker 14: He does. But he's pretty visible David. Yeah, I mean
- 48:59Speaker 14: I give Trump credit for that.
- 49:01Speaker 3: Oh, I agree.
- 49:03Speaker 14: As far as the media goes, he's an omni president.
- 49:05Speaker 3: Yeah, he's too, he's two omnipresence.
- 49:07Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 49:08Speaker 14: And as far as the plane goes, they gave the
- 49:13Speaker 14: plane to the Defense Department. There's nothing that says the
- 49:18Speaker 14: Defense Department has to give it to his library. We're
- 49:22Speaker 14: not signing any His administration can't sign any kind of
- 49:26Speaker 14: deal like that because once it belonged to the Defense Department,
- 49:29Speaker 14: belongs to the Defense Department. Now if he does a
- 49:32Speaker 14: library and does it and lets the federal government run it,
- 49:39Speaker 14: then he could he possibly could get that plane. When
- 49:43Speaker 14: Richard Nixon did his library in ninety three, he was
- 49:46Speaker 14: still he was still alive. He died in ninety four,
- 49:50Speaker 14: and the girls they raised all the money for it,
- 49:53Speaker 14: and until twenty ten it was running on private funds
- 49:56Speaker 14: and didn't have a paid employee. And I went there
- 49:59Speaker 14: several time. Now the federal government takes it over, the
- 50:02Speaker 14: first thing to do is build a watergate wing. Okay,
- 50:06Speaker 14: so there was there's more wings, and some of the
- 50:09Speaker 14: stuff that I used to enjoy is not there now.
- 50:12Speaker 14: And you can't go into the house where he was
- 50:15Speaker 14: born the little house where he was born in California.
- 50:18Speaker 14: He was born in the house his father belt. That
- 50:21Speaker 14: house was there, but you can't go in it anymore.
- 50:23Speaker 3: You see the story on the news speaking of houses,
- 50:25Speaker 3: that the house that the Pope, Pope Leo grew up
- 50:29Speaker 3: in in Chicago sold, I think I want to say
- 50:33Speaker 3: it sold for like sixty five thousand dollars, like you know,
- 50:36Speaker 3: four or five years ago, well over two hundred thousand now,
- 50:39Speaker 3: and you could expect that, I guess.
- 50:41Speaker 13: So.
- 50:41Speaker 3: So getting back to the plane in Trump, Okay, you
- 50:44Speaker 3: gotta admit, though, Danny, it it does. It's not good optics, man,
- 50:49Speaker 3: it's not good optics.

- 51:09Speaker 14: Bence whatever his last name is, I mean, yet killed
- 51:13Speaker 14: that Washington Post reporter.
- 51:15Speaker 20: So no one ever gave you a plane, Danny, No, No,
- 51:23Speaker 20: I had a until I had a child.
- 51:26Speaker 14: When I was sheriff, I drove an old police car.
- 51:29Speaker 14: But once we had children and I was starting to
- 51:32Speaker 14: take them to school, I got rid of the car
- 51:35Speaker 14: and bought myself a vehicle to drive.
