- 0:48SPEAKER_03: This is a labor of love for you.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: We when you're in media, we wait for this year.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Like we totally wait for this year, and it's such a humbling experience.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: This is my second year too.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: We we made our debut last year.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Bang! Not right, it's our sophomore.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: We're only going up from here.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: We're only going up from here.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: But when we were here last year, I think I was so in awe of just the amount of talent under one roof.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Like, and the most humble, the most kind, the most amazing people.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: And I don't know, did you go to the parties last year?
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: Because they throw some kick-ass.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: I went to a few of them.
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: I went to some of the seminars.
- 1:24SPEAKER_03: I really find those really informative.
- 1:26SPEAKER_03: I did, I got the chance to play a couple of the parties.
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: I'm playing more of them this year, which is good.
- 1:30SPEAKER_03: It feels like a step up, yeah.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: What are you playing?
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: Well, I'm doing, I've got them on my phone.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: If you hadn't asked me, I would have told you it wasn't.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: Don't worry, I'll see you.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: Well, they book you for them kind of last minute when you show up to them.
- 1:39SPEAKER_03: So I'm just gonna show up where they tell me with my guitar and uh start singing.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Tell me how you got started in this beautiful country music world.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: So I was raised Pentecostal.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: My dad was a Pentecostal evangelist when I was growing up.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: And so I'm from North Carolina originally.
- 1:55SPEAKER_03: And uh my dad would would travel to different churches and preach what are called revivals, which is like he would, you know, preach four or five nights in a row, and I would sing before you, and I was probably six years old when I started singing.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Beautiful is that!
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: And then and then well, thank you very much, Deb.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: I appreciate you saying that.
- 2:10SPEAKER_03: I like I like her, folks.
- 2:11SPEAKER_03: I like her.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: I just think it's so cool that that's part of the spiritual part, is part of the background.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: I think that's so amazing.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: And that caught me the music bug at such a young age, and I think I was about 12 or 13 when I started listening to country music.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: I I think it was uh much too young to feel this damn old by Garth Brooks.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: That was the first one that made me go, wow, it's I love Garth Brooks.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: And when I hear country music, so I'm like, when you're listening to the radio and Garth Brooks comes on talking about his fans, like it's like and I love the way he treats people.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: I love the way he treats fans, I like the way he treats his friends and the people that work for him.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: I've tried to model my career after that.
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: That's beautiful.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: Because really, that's that's the most important thing.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: What's everything?
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: It's how we treat people, and you know, you get the same energy back when you you know the world recycles good energy.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: Absolutely, it's everything, you know.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: Me too.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: I pride myself how I treat people.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: I could tell immediately meeting you just a little while ago how sweet you were.
- 2:58SPEAKER_03: I mean, I I totally did.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: But I do, I I try to model my career after that.
- 3:02SPEAKER_03: Um, my mom and dad bought me a greatest hit CD when I was that age, and it had like Loretta and George Jones, and I always joke around and say that I'm my dad's second favorite country singer besides George Jones.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh, that's so cool.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: Because if we go camping, if we go fishing, it's George Jones on the road.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Well, I think even as artists with growing up these country roots, like you go back to those.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: You know, I own I exclusively listen to country music in Philadelphia, which is like a very funny.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: I'm originally from Texas, but um, but I loved it now that the whole world is revolving around like it was a long time, man.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Thank God you all caught up.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: But it's such a beautiful industry.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: So when did you move to Nashville?
- 3:41SPEAKER_03: So I've been here for four years.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: How's it going?
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: I hear it's a 10 to everybody tells me it's a 10-year town.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Well, they say that I'm hoping to shave a couple of those ears off.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: Uh things are looking good.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm working with a guy named Phil O'Donnell on my new album.
- 3:52SPEAKER_03: He goes by Phil Billy.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: The divers boy.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: He goes by Phil Billy.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Phil Billy, I love it.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: And he's got number ones with George Strait and Blake Shelton.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: That's crazy.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: And uh uh uh Montgomery Gentry, Craig Morgan.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: He's produced every hit Craig Morgan ever had.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Uh so we're working on a new album.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: We've been writing and recording this new album together.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: I've been writing with uh Wade Kirby, who wrote All Over the Road for Easton Corbin, and a bunch of other people.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: Things are going well.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I've got a write.
- 4:17SPEAKER_03: I've got a write with the one and only Lance Miller coming up.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: And uh I wrote for the first time at BMG the other day with uh Emily Shackleton, who wrote the Carly Pierce hits.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: And uh Phil Barton, who wrote What's it feel like to be around those writers that you I can only imagine?
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: Well the the craziest thing, Deb, is the craziest feeling is really like because I've been playing in Honky Tonk since I could play, since I could get into them.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: And I was playing those hits when they were hits back in the day.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: And it's like, and then you go, wow, I'm in the room with the people that created this.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: It's surreal.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, I feel like that about y'all.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: I really do.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Like, to me, the level of talent that is here, and that what a humbling experience that you would spend some time telling me your story.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and I think I'll talk to you as long as I'll let you know.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: I know, I like it.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Do you watch the guy?
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Well, get you a glass of wine.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Everyone's like, Deb has wine.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: I'm like, humble yourself, I'll buy you a glass of wine.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: But I think it's so amazing, and you know, first of all, if you're here, if you're at the CRS and you've been here two years, Ros, so you're already on your way.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: Things are going well.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they they take the best of the outcoming year, and you know, so I think that's so amazing that you're doing it, and you're gonna shave that off.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: It'll be a five-year town for you.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Where's your favorite place to play?
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: So, in as far as in Nashville or all over?
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Uh in Nashville.
- 5:30SPEAKER_03: My favorite place to play would have to be a place called the Local.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: I play there every Friday night.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: You know, Jeff Reed.
- 5:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Jeff Reed owns the place.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: He's he was one of the first guys in Nashville that really.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Did you ever go to the one in Hendersonville?
- 5:42SPEAKER_03: I play there on Sunday, every Sunday.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: I play there every Sunday.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: So on Friday night, my band's in there at the Freak Show, the Freak Show Friday, the writers round.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: And my band's done that every Friday for the past year and a half, two years, something like that.
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: And that's opened a lot of doors.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: The local's opening.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, the local is is legendary.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: And then the one in Hendersonville is acoustic trio.
- 6:00SPEAKER_03: I play up there with uh Jim Ed, who plays for Craig Morgan, plays fiddle for Craig Morgan, and uh that's actually how I met my manager and met Phil Billy and all those because really I owe Jim Ed a lot of favors.
- 6:09SPEAKER_03: I tell him I owe him a lot of favors.
- 6:11SPEAKER_03: He sees a great, great guy.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: They're probably blessed to have you.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, we become friends.
- 6:16SPEAKER_03: I think that's what this business at the end of the day is really all about is we're all good, we're all talented, and we're all we all got the same dream.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: And it really, when you see somebody that is a kind, it is communicated, humble spirit, amen.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: That goes a long way, especially with me.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: I love that, and it's the only industry um that you all lift each other up.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: You're really truly a community.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: I have never, I've shot a lot of interviews, and I've never heard anybody say, talk bad about anybody.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: I've never heard anybody say, Well, I should have been there.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Like, I love that you cheer each other on because in life, you know, outside of this, that's not really how life is.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: So you're part of this incredible community.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: Well, healthy competition for me is a good thing.
- 6:59SPEAKER_03: If I've got a friend of mine who's got a song that's really doing well, I'll call him or her and go, Man, your song's really killing it.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: Like, my song's doing this, and there's a healthy competition.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: And there's a top for all of you.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: I don't think you need to tear somebody down to lift yourself up.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: We don't, and in the golden rule in life, and you know this from you know, following your father around that we treat people the way we want to be treated.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Where's the dream place?
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Where do you want to play?
- 7:23SPEAKER_03: Grand Opry.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, hands down, Grand Olapry.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: Um, so you know, they keep throwing around Grand O'Lopri debut, and who knows if that's gonna happen.
- 7:30SPEAKER_03: If it ever happened, that's totally gonna happen.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: Don't be returned to the show.
- 7:33SPEAKER_03: You say a prayer for me tonight, Dave, if you don't mind.
- 7:36SPEAKER_03: They keep throwing that around, and I and I always used to joke around and say you could just you could just kill me off then, put me in a pine box after that, because that's it.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: That's a done.
- 7:44SPEAKER_03: That's a career.
- 7:50SPEAKER_03: Well, what everybody says is uh no, no, once you play it once, you'll want to play it a hundred times.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: Right, and you're a legend then you go back to Yeah, that's that's that's it for me.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: I mean, I went to the Grand Ole Opry for the first time when I was 14 years old.
- 8:02SPEAKER_03: My mom and daddy took me to go see Charlie Daniels, who's from North Carolina, absolutely.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: And uh and he killed it.
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, he just got out there and wore it out, and I said, that's what I'm gonna do.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: That's what I want to do.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: That's what I want to do.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: That's amazing.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: Thank you, man.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: What's the five-year plan?
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: What's it look like?
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: Well, uh well, I want to keep recording, keep writing.
- 8:20SPEAKER_03: I write as much as I can.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: I want to uh be touring.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: I think touring is the next step for me.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: That's have you toured yet or not?
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: I have toured quite a bit, but as far as getting on a big tour with a bigger artist, who do you want?
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: We'll call him up.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: Well, I'd love to tour with Garth.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: I'd love to tour with George Strait.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: However many times he's gonna do it again.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: Brooks and Dunn would be one of my favorites.
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: Craig Morgan, he's another favorite of mine.
- 8:43SPEAKER_03: I would love Clint Black, would be a great one.
- 8:45SPEAKER_03: My mom is obsessed with Clint Black.
- 8:47SPEAKER_03: So, Clint, if you hear that, my mom wants to meet you.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: His mom's gotta be fancy.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Good people come from other good people, so Blake Shelton.
- 8:55SPEAKER_03: Laney Wilson would be a good one.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: Rally Green.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: The girls are kicking ass, right?
- 9:00SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm obsessed with Ella Langley's new song, Choosing Texas.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: I'm from Texas.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: What a song.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: So when I hear it, it's a little teary-eyed for me because it makes me homesick.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: Not that I mean I can always go to Texas anytime I want, but I think the beauty of seeing the people in Texas.
- 9:14SPEAKER_03: She did good on that one.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: She did.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: She did.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: And Miranda is co-writer on it.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: It's it's crazy the women coming up in country music and the quality.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: And I think, you know, in the two years I've been doing this show, the watching of the shift of the world, not just the nation and not just Nashville, and just embracing country music.
- 9:34SPEAKER_01: I don't think there's a better time to be in country music.
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: It's definitely having a moment.
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: Country music is definitely having a moment, and I think it's good for the people who are authentically country because it's like this is what we do, this is what we are, and this is the kind of music we make.
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: And the thing about it is, is this country music is hitting that stride without having to completely change itself.
- 9:53SPEAKER_03: Like choosing Texas is as country as it gets.
- 9:55SPEAKER_03: This is a country of a country.
- 9:57SPEAKER_03: Loretta Lynn could have sang that song back in the day.
- 9:59SPEAKER_03: You know, so I think that's a good thing.
- 10:00SPEAKER_03: I think it's it's it's real authentic country.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, when she came out at the award show, and I was like, She's killer.
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: I remember seeing her we went to see her with uh Riley.
- 10:10SPEAKER_03: She was opening up for Riley not too long ago, and and yeah, she just came out there and came out.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: He's amazing too.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, he's one of my favorites.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: If you could collab with anybody, who would it be?
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: Alive or dead.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry?
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: Alive or dead.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: Uh uh, anybody, anybody.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: Elvis Presley.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: Uh I love The King, baby.
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: The king.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: It would be Elvis.
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: Could do any covers of him when you oh yeah, we sing Suspicious Minds, we do Jailhouse Rock, we do um Can't Help Falling in Love With You.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: First of all, that's all the classic songs that women love.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Like I don't know if you're single or married or I'm married.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: You're married, I'm married.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: She loves Elvis, though.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: But I can only imagine.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: How long have you been married?
- 10:46SPEAKER_03: So I got married about a year.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: We're going on two years.
- 10:49SPEAKER_03: October will be two years.
- 10:50SPEAKER_01: Congratulations to you.
- 10:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we went to Las Vegas for our one-year hunt one year anniversary, and we got to go to St.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: Lucia for our honeymoon.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's pretty cool.
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: We climbed the Gross Baton, the mountain.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's amazing.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Is she in the industry?
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: She is not.
- 11:04SPEAKER_03: She's a civil engineer.
- 11:05SPEAKER_03: We have polar opposite lives.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: That is so good.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: My husband's a biomedical engineer.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: So you get it.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Oh, dude, first of all, he's the smartest man I know, but you would never know because he's the humblest human being.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: Same with her.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: And and you know, we said this morning, because it's first day here, Monsieur S, and he's like, I want you to know that I'm proud of you.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I'm so proud of him.
- 11:24SPEAKER_03: That makes it all work.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, to know that he's sacrificing his for me to live my dream.
- 11:29SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 11:30SPEAKER_03: You know, so that's a successful marriage.
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: Totally.
- 11:33SPEAKER_03: You guys aren't stifling each other, you're not keeping each other from achieving your goals because you know you guys are always going to come back together.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: And that's how Rain and I were.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: You know what he said too, it was funny last night because we were talking about um we're we're working with some artists.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: I have a community, I'm I'm actually a therapist and a life coach.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: And um, I have a community of people that you know, we're trying my my goal in life is to get anybody that feels small out of that.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Like it's to move people into a direction where they have they can comfortably step into the life that has pulling up.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: You have an uplifting spirit.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: That's a good thing to say.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, thank you so much.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: That means a lot to me.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: I really try.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's so many things in life that will will hold you down, and like there is nothing in the world greater than watching somebody step into their own life.
- 12:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah, especially somebody that you care, you really love and you want to see them succeed in life.
- 12:24SPEAKER_03: And that's what I've found.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: Seems like that's what you found.
- 12:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I love it.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: I think it's really it's it's truly, I mean, we're just people, we're all the same.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: And and for, you know, I'm the huge fan of all of you guys and country music, and then when you get to meet you, you realize we're we're all just doing the same thing every single day.
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: We're just a bunch of rednecks wearing rhinestones, wearing fancy crackers.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: That's so funny, right?
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: That's so funny.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: I called my husband, he kind of grew up in the mountains of Pennsylvania, and I'm like, he's my favorite redneck.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you're my favorite redneck.
- 12:51SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: I know, he's so good, but he was, you know, when he said this morning, he's like, I just want you to know.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Because I mean, it's a sacrifice for me to be away from my practice.
- 13:00SPEAKER_02: These whole businesses.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: You know, my dog and and everything else.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: And for for you and your for your wife to give you the freedom to trace your dream, she's an amazing person.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: She is.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: Because I'm gonna tell her you said that.
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna get her to watch this.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: And I'm gonna say, Deb was talking a bit about that.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: That's right, that's a right.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Uh she is.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'm a very small cog in this cog in this wheel, but I mean, for him to sacrifice for me to chase this dream to give a platform.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, I started this show that I wanted I wanted people to dream bigger.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: You know, I feel like sometimes people get in a rut and they think that's all that's made for them, and it's very information.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: And I don't like I don't want to ever see anybody settle in their lives.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: And when we decided that we're gonna start a podcast and we're gonna be here in Nashville, um, there's an artist, his name is Holden Barter.
- 13:44SPEAKER_03: I feel like I've heard that.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: I don't even know him.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Anyway, shout out to you.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: I love you, sir.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: He's from Philadelphia, he was my very first artist and opened the door for me in country music.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: That's really cool.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: You don't even know.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: I now I know I like I swear I see him perform all the time.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: I know his parents and his grandmom and his aunt, and and the the kindness of taking a risk on somebody that you never knew.
- 14:06SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 14:06SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, everybody deserves a chance, whether it's writing or singing or podcasting or whatever.
- 14:11SPEAKER_03: I mean, everybody deserves a chance to prove themselves.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: You know, that's why, you know, I'm I there are a lot of artists who who don't want to be pitched songs, don't want people sending them songs and stuff.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: And I tell everybody, anybody, any aspiring songwriter, I say, I can't guarantee I'm gonna record it.
- 14:25SPEAKER_03: I'm sitting on a whole bunch of songs that I'm never gonna get together.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: I'd love to hear other ideas.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: And that song, and I say, I will listen.
- 14:32SPEAKER_03: I say I will guarantee you that I will listen.
- 14:35SPEAKER_03: And I will.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Because collectively, as humans, we're better together.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: You we really are.
- 14:40SPEAKER_03: And and and it's a benefit to me as an artist.
- 14:43SPEAKER_03: Why would I not listen to somebody's song?
- 14:45SPEAKER_03: They're sending me their best song that they believe in.
- 14:47SPEAKER_03: This is I love this song.
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: You never know when you could be finding that Diamond in the Rough.
- 14:51SPEAKER_03: That's the dance or or that's your whatever, whatever song.
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: It could be a career-defining song.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: I almost feel honored because when people send me their music long before they're on the show or whatever, I'm I'm like, I am so honored that you first of all, it's private, right?
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Because we don't know what's gonna be the next big hit, we don't know what's gonna happen, and you entrust me enough that with your baby, that's your sacred, you know.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, songwriters, that's their babies.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: That's their baby.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: It is their babies, and I think y'all are just so fascinating.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: Like the creativity and the talent under this roof, you know.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't, I just I don't think it comes.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: I I literally, I'm talking to my husband last time, like I just couldn't get out the words to like the guest who was here before you.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: I met her in the bathroom at the studio.
- 15:35SPEAKER_03: She seemed nice.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: I did what was her name?
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: She is such a cutie Megan.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: Megan, she's she's so cute.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: She I met her, she was getting dressed, I was shooting in studio yesterday, and then um she was in the bathroom getting ready to shoot a music video, and I'm like, oh my god.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: She's a cute video.
- 15:51SPEAKER_03: She seems like she's brand new to she is has signed with a huge label.
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: That's awesome.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: I know, and she's like living the dream.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: And I just asked her, I'm like, would you come on my podcast?
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: She's like, are you at the CRS?
- 16:02SPEAKER_01: And like literally, we became like instant buddy.
- 16:05SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna say a prayer for her.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: I hope it's a good one.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I know, please do.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: And I I want you to know that I am the biggest cheerleader of everybody that sits in this chair.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Thank you, dude.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Thank you for sharing your story so incredibly with my audience.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: That will be your audience.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: This is gonna be the last time, hopefully.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, let me tell you this is what I was just gonna say nobody comes to Happy Hour once.
- 16:23SPEAKER_03: Heck yeah.
- 16:24SPEAKER_03: You will be your like That's your sl that should be your slogan.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: It's like the Hotel California little bit.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: Like you can check out you.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: And everybody comes back on the show, so I would love to have you back for a full hour interview.
- 16:34SPEAKER_03: We'll get your contact or something.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, Scott knows.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: Scott's probably like Deb is the crazy one.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: He's probably like, all right, go see right like go to Deb, go to Deb last because she's a bit touched.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: But because we want to take this ride with you, and thank you for being so humble and being so kind, and thank you for the beautiful music that's moving people, and I think that's amazing.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Can we talk about the beer?
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: We can talk about whatever you want.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: So, anyway, this is Freedom Brew.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Um, it is new.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, a veteran, a very Alan, we love you.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Shout out to you, sir.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: He gave up his corporate job to follow his dream, and nobody can understand that better than y'all.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: He's doing pretty good.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: So he is, and he's given a lot back to veterans, and he's helping with prevention of suicide.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Um, I treat veterans for free.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Um we are blessed to be Americans, we're blessed to live in this country.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: And the only reason you and I get to sit here and have this time together is because somebody else is willing to sacrifice somebody.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: So God bless America, and uh and you're willing to take some with you to take some home.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: I'd love to give you some.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: Scott wanted me to get some for him.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Oh, totally.
- 17:35SPEAKER_03: Scott can have that.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: I swear to God, every time I get a text from Scott, my assistant knows uh my assistant's name is Jake.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: And he like knows.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: I'm like, get back to Scott immediately.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: He's the best.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: You know how you meet like certain pockets of people when you're doing this?
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: And Scott has been so good to this show.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: He's one of the ones that he's like Jeff and Jerry.
- 17:52SPEAKER_03: I mean, all these people.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: I know you don't know who I'm talking about, but like Scott was one of the people that first believed in me.
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: He really was.
- 17:59SPEAKER_03: It means a lot.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it means a lot.
- 18:01SPEAKER_01: It keeps me going.
- 18:02SPEAKER_03: It's like it's the reason why I can pick myself up off the ground when I get knocked down.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: And that's resilience, and that's you know, and I don't think people don't understand.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: That's my career to this point is resilience.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: I told you at beginning the show, we're all going up from here, so we're all going up from here.
- 18:17SPEAKER_01: But I think people don't realize it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out and to be vulnerable and to let these people because not everybody's nice.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: You know, not everybody says the nicest things, but I can tell you it is an honor to sit next to you.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: Thanks, Dave.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: And I know here so you're gonna let me go backstage one of your concerts, right?
- 18:35SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: You let me know when and when.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Absolutely, I would love it.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: I'll get to meet your wife, I'll bring my husband.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: You'll love her.
- 18:40SPEAKER_03: And I have a son.
- 18:41SPEAKER_03: I I have a son who's 11.
- 18:42SPEAKER_03: I was married once before, and I have a son.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: He's 11.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: Cash.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: You don't even look like you could have an 11.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: I know, I know.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: It's the beard.
- 18:49SPEAKER_03: I had a long beard not too long ago, and it did aged me a lot.
- 18:52SPEAKER_03: So I look like a baby when I was.
- 18:55SPEAKER_01: Shout out to you, Cash.
- 18:57SPEAKER_01: You got a rock star dad.
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: He thinks I am anyway.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: He totally did it.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: You're probably his hero.
- 19:03SPEAKER_03: Well, he's my hero too.
- 19:05SPEAKER_03: I I I think I like to hope that I am his hero.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: I'm sure you are.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: I do, I hope that I have done enough to earn that right to be into my own.
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: I am so sure he's blessed to have you.
- 19:15SPEAKER_03: Thanks, Dave.
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: What's it like?
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: Like looking through the lens, like as a parent, it's a whole different lens, right?
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: To look through.
- 19:21SPEAKER_03: It's it's it it's not about you anymore.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: It shapes a lot of my art, it shapes a lot of who I am as an artist.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: It's it's I want to put out music that's a good positive influence on him.
- 19:31SPEAKER_03: I want to instruct him.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: And I and I try to, I don't want to force music.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: He's very musical.
- 19:36SPEAKER_03: It's it's very clear that he's very musical already.
- 19:39SPEAKER_03: It is.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: And I don't want to force it on him.
- 19:41SPEAKER_03: I want him to find music the way I did where it very organically.
- 19:44SPEAKER_03: And when he finds that special, whether it's country or whether it's rock or metal or hip hop or whatever he wants to do.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: Mr.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Potato Head, if you want to.
- 19:50SPEAKER_01: Be the best Mr.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Potato Head you can be.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: I became a grandmother uh uh almost a year ago.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Nice, good.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: When I was going up to be a grandma, thank you so much.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: That means the world.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: That means the world to me.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: And I'm guy I have two more coming.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: The advisor Tamber will have three in 18 months.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: And to see the people you love love their children is I've had a year.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, what an amazing ride.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: I have a cool story to tell you.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: So it was my dad's birthday the other day, and I was I got to stop by in Charlotte and see him.
- 20:22SPEAKER_03: And he went off on this tangent, he started crying and getting real emotional.
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: He said, I just want you because I have a baby sister too.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: And he wanted us, he just told us how much he loved us and how much we meant to him.
- 20:31SPEAKER_03: He said, You guys are my legacy, you're my life.
- 20:33SPEAKER_03: And everything I do is because of the two of y'all.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: And and I and you you when you're a kid and you hear your parents say that, you don't get it.
- 20:40SPEAKER_03: You don't until you look down at that little baby and you go, Wow, okay, I get it now.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 20:46SPEAKER_03: And I I started crying.
- 20:47SPEAKER_03: He's crying, I'm crying.
- 20:49SPEAKER_03: Sir, I cry super commercial.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: I was like, You can't even put me in for like when people I'm like, alright, break, get me a tissue before you raise me.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: But how beautiful is that?
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: It was beautiful.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: You know, and now you know you're a dad's the best.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: I mean he's the best.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: Good people come from other good people.
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: I always say that in my husband's like, and I go and assholes come from other assholes.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: It's just a total fact in life.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Like you learn that at a very young age.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: But it is so true, and you know, get out there and love every second of it.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: You know, thank you for sharing your gift and your music with this incredible world.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, as long as all of us as long as people keep listening, I'll keep making it.
- 21:21SPEAKER_01: People keep listening, you'll come back, spend an hour with you.
- 21:24SPEAKER_03: You let me know.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: It was an honor and a pleasure.
- 21:28SPEAKER_01: It really was.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: You're great.
- 21:29SPEAKER_01: You're welcome back anytime.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Anytime you want to come back, you're welcome anytime.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: Absolutely.
