- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The Propers of the Day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The Feast of Saint Simon and Jude, October 28 in the year of our Lord 2026. Of this feast, Domgaspar Lefebvre writes, Jude or Thaddeus had asked the master at the last supper why he manifested himself to the apostles and not to the world. Jesus answered that he only manifested himself to souls who show him their fidelity by observing his commandments. Simon announced the gospel to the peoples of the East.
- 0:53Jude wrote his Catholic epistle which is still read in the West and which, declares origin, contains strong doctrine in a few lines. In the first part he foretells the exemplary condemnation of heretics whom he compares to clouds without water, to autumn trees without fruit, and to wandering stars for whom profound darkness is apportioned for all eternity. In the second part, he exhorts the faithful not to be enticed by the seducers but to remain firm in their faith in God and Christ. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
- 1:55The introit. Great reverence have I for thy friends, O God. Sovereign power is theirs in abundance. O Lord, I lie open to thy scrutiny. Thou knowest me, knowest when I sit down and when I rise up.
- 2:16Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Great reverence have I for thy friends, O God, sovereign power is theirs in abundance. The Collect, let us pray. O God, who through thy blessed Apostles Simon and Jude, hast brought us to the knowledge of thy name, grant that by advancing in virtue we may celebrate their everlasting glory and by celebrating advance in virtue through our Lord Jesus Christ, Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
- 3:20Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians. Brethren, each of us has received his own special grace dealt out to him by Christ's gift. That is why we are told he has mounted upon high. He has captured his spoil.
- 3:45He has brought gifts to men. The words he has gone up must mean that he had gone down first to the lower regions of earth. And he who so went down is not other than he who has gone up high above all the heavens to fill creation with his presence. Some he has appointed to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, or pastors or teachers. They are to order the lives of the faithful, minister to their needs, build up the frame of Christ's body until we all realize our common unity through faith in the Son of God and fuller knowledge of him so we shall reach perfect manhood that maturity which is proportioned to the completed growth of Christ.
- 4:56The gradual. Thou wilt divide a world between them for their domains. Thine are the nations that will be remembered forever. Instead of thy fathers, sons shall be born to thee. Thou shalt make them princes all over the world.
- 5:20Alleluia. Alleluia. Great reverence have I for thy friends, O God. Sovereign power is theirs in abundance. Alleluia.
- 5:37A continuation of the holy gospel according to John. At that time Jesus spoke thus to his disciples. These are the directions I give you that you should love one another. If the world hates you be sure that it hated me before it learned to hate you. If you belonged to the world, the world would know you for its own and love you.
- 6:11It is because you do not belong to the world because I have singled you out from the midst of the world that the world hates you. Do not forget what I have said to you. No servant can be greater than his master. They will persecute you just as they have persecuted me. They will pay the same attention to your words as to mine.
- 6:42And they will treat you thus because you bear my name. They have no knowledge of him who sent me. If I had not come and given them my message, they would not have been in fault. As it is, their fault can find no excuse. To hate me is to hate my father too.
- 7:10If I had not done what no one else ever did in their midst they would not have been in fault. As it is they have hated with open eyes both me and my father and all this in fulfillment of the saying which is written in their law. They hated me without a cause. The operatory, their sound went forth into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world. The secret.
- 7:55Reverently, O Lord, we honor the everlasting glory of thy holy Apostles, Simon and Jude, and beseech thee that our guilt being atoned for in these sacred mysteries, we may become more worthy to do homage to thy saints through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The preface of Apostles. Just it is indeed and fitting right and for our salvation to entreat thee humbly, O Lord, that thou wouldst not desert thy flock, O everlasting shepherd, but through thy blessed apostles, wouldst keep it under thy constant protection, that it may be governed by those same rulers whom, as vicars of thy work, thou didst set over it to be its pastors. And therefore with angels and archangels, with thrones and dominions, and with all the hosts of the heavenly army, we sing the hymn of thy glory, saying without ceasing.
- 9:22Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
- 9:44The communion. You who have followed me shall sit upon seats judging the 12 tribes of Israel. The post communion, let us pray. Having, O Lord, received thy sacraments, we most humbly entreat of thee that through the intercession of thy holy apostles Simon and Jude, the homage we offer thee which we perform in memory of their venerable passion may avail us for the healing of our souls through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 10:45In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Thanks be to God. Saint Simon the Zealot, pray for us. Saint Thaddeus, pray for us.
