- 0:26Speaker 1: Okay, this is what been visioned in January.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Okay, sir, it's happening here in September.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Gonna go on further.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Welcome to dag Dam this morning.
- 0:45Speaker 5: It's victory Monday here in Duvall and we love the
- 0:47Speaker 5: sounds of that. Celebrating their first win of the season
- 0:50Speaker 5: after Week one, a win over the Panthers. Let's get
- 0:53Speaker 5: into things, Big things brought to you by g e
- 0:55Speaker 5: H A Government Employees Health Association and Top Cat Fight. Yesterday,
- 1:01Speaker 5: Jagglars were able to come out on top, battling through adversity.
- 1:04Speaker 4: We and Powen looked back on his first game as
- 1:06Speaker 4: a head coach.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Really cool to be sitting, you know, to be standing
- 1:11Speaker 1: up here obviously after a win, but I was just
- 1:14Speaker 1: really proud to be their coach today with the way
- 1:16Speaker 1: that they competed, the way we hit, the way we
- 1:19Speaker 1: were more physical, all the things that we kind of
- 1:21Speaker 1: wanted to preach about. Now is it perfect and absolutely not.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You know, you're frustrated with some of the penalties that
- 1:27Speaker 1: have continued to bite us in the butt that we've
- 1:31Speaker 1: we did overcome at times, but it's that's not something
- 1:34Speaker 1: we want to get used to doing by any means,
- 1:36Speaker 1: and so when you play teams as we go throughout
- 1:39Speaker 1: this thing, we cannot do those things and expect to win.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Brian, It wasn't perfect.
- 1:46Speaker 5: We didn't expect it to be, but it was so
- 1:48Speaker 5: nice to see some resiliency out of them, seeing them
- 1:51Speaker 5: battle back they had that long rain delay about an
- 1:54Speaker 5: hour in the middle of the second quarter, come back out,
- 1:56Speaker 5: play well right off the bat then, and to get
- 1:59Speaker 5: this victory.
- 2:00Speaker 4: But in different ways.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Right, we saw them play great defense, which maybe we
- 2:03Speaker 5: didn't expect out of the gate. We saw the run
- 2:05Speaker 5: game show up. It was multi fasted and it was
- 2:08Speaker 5: nice to see.
- 2:08Speaker 6: You know, I think the question to ask is were
- 2:10Speaker 6: they fast?
- 2:11Speaker 3: Right?
- 2:11Speaker 6: If you remember when Liam Cohen was hired, he said
- 2:13Speaker 6: he wanted a team that played fundamentally sound, that was attacking,
- 2:17Speaker 6: that was situational masters, and that were tough. And we
- 2:20Speaker 6: can go through all of those. We don't have an
- 2:22Speaker 6: hour and show you examples of all of them. Right,
- 2:25Speaker 6: situational masters, how about forty seven seconds remain when Foyer
- 2:28Speaker 6: Lucan forces the fumble at the end of the second quarter,
- 2:30Speaker 6: and they use forty six of it to set up
- 2:32Speaker 6: a field goal to go up twenty to three. The
- 2:34Speaker 6: toughness was evident in so many ways. I like what
- 2:37Speaker 6: you said, though, resilient because we've talked about that ad
- 2:40Speaker 6: nauseum since the end of twenty twenty three, and on
- 2:43Speaker 6: the first drive they had to overcome first and twenty
- 2:45Speaker 6: second in twenty they couldn't overcome the intentional grounding, but
- 2:48Speaker 6: they managed a field goal.
- 2:49Speaker 3: There were so many examples.
- 2:51Speaker 6: Of when the team stood strong and came back and
- 2:54Speaker 6: made a play after they had given up a play man.
- 2:58Speaker 6: I was really encouraged because what Liam said he was
- 3:00Speaker 6: going to deliver on his first Sunday as the head coach.
- 3:03Speaker 3: He did.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Yeah, they won moments, which is what Brian's talking about
- 3:07Speaker 2: with situational mass. You know, they got the red zone
- 3:12Speaker 2: twice and instead of it being like this hold your
- 3:15Speaker 2: breath moment score and it's not always gonna happen, but
- 3:19Speaker 2: they got some touchdowns that put them up. And then conversely,
- 3:23Speaker 2: the Panthers didn't. The Panthers had the ball inside Jaguars
- 3:27Speaker 2: territory twice in the third and couldn't get it in.
- 3:31Speaker 2: They didn't master them, and the Jaguars dead. I thought
- 3:34Speaker 2: it was exactly what they wanted. Kay, you said it
- 3:36Speaker 2: wasn't perfect. It is that such thing in the NFL
- 3:37Speaker 2: is perfect. What's perfect is winning the first game as
- 3:41Speaker 2: your head coach, which only Doug Marone has done in
- 3:43Speaker 2: this franchise.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Finding a way to win, it's very crucial, especially in
- 3:46Speaker 5: the NFL. Our Second big thing today is going to
- 3:48Speaker 5: be runaway. We talked about the run game being a
- 3:50Speaker 5: focus for this team going forward. That was evident on Sunday.
- 3:54Speaker 5: Not only Travis DPN, but four running backs were dressed
- 3:57Speaker 5: and played and all of them contributed.
- 4:01Speaker 1: To have all four of those backs contribute today, right,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I mean, whether it shows up in the status sheet
- 4:06Speaker 1: is having all these yards. And obviously EUTNA will get
- 4:09Speaker 1: a lot of that praise, deservingly so. But I think
- 4:13Speaker 1: that room in general, with Chad Mortan as their coach,
- 4:16Speaker 1: have done a phenomenal job getting better and improving all
- 4:19Speaker 1: throughout this you know, entire time since we've been here.
- 4:21Speaker 4: Really, John a.
- 4:23Speaker 5: Lot, I'm talking the off season, how are they gonna
- 4:25Speaker 5: find a way to use these guys? They found a way.
- 4:27Speaker 5: Travis etn of course having a day. It was nice
- 4:30Speaker 5: to see what they talked about in the off season
- 4:33Speaker 5: come to life in that first game.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and what really came to life two hundred yards rushing,
- 4:37Speaker 2: which is I guess the most since twenty two when
- 4:40Speaker 2: they lost to the Colts in Indy. How perfect was
- 4:44Speaker 2: that when you have a coach who comes in talks
- 4:46Speaker 2: all off season about running, talks the week before the
- 4:49Speaker 2: game about well, we think, but we don't know until
- 4:52Speaker 2: we see it. And then when you saw it, you
- 4:54Speaker 2: not only had the seventy one yard run, but you
- 4:57Speaker 2: had some runs late where they you know, with four
- 5:00Speaker 2: minutes to go the game, you felt it was decided,
- 5:02Speaker 2: but it wasn't absolutely decided, and then they get a
- 5:05Speaker 2: couple of long runs in that situation. I liked the
- 5:11Speaker 2: way they got all four backs involved. I think Travis
- 5:14Speaker 2: will be the guy until he's not meaning until Baseelle
- 5:17Speaker 2: Tuton comes along with his speed and makes it happen
- 5:21Speaker 2: in that position. But look, they're deep, and I think
- 5:24Speaker 2: Cohen's going to play all three of them all, I
- 5:25Speaker 2: mean all four of them all season.
- 5:27Speaker 6: If you want to be a physical team, you have
- 5:29Speaker 6: to be able to run the ball and stop the run.
- 5:31Speaker 6: And if you're going to be a team that can
- 5:32Speaker 6: run the ball and stop the run, Ky you have
- 5:33Speaker 6: to practice it. I go back to the very first
- 5:35Speaker 6: day in pads in training camp. The first live team
- 5:38Speaker 6: drilled was running the football. Keep in mind we're talking
- 5:42Speaker 6: about Trevor Lawrence and Brian Thomas Junior and Travis Hunter.
- 5:46Speaker 6: You must run the ball, and the Jaguars did it
- 5:49Speaker 6: over and over and over through the preseason. Liam Cohen
- 5:52Speaker 6: showed the commitment that offensive line was tremendous yesterday. Not
- 5:57Speaker 6: only did they create holes and space for Travis and
- 6:00Speaker 6: the running backs to make positive yardage. The quarterback was
- 6:04Speaker 6: only touched on the intentional grounding and that may have
- 6:06Speaker 6: been his fault because he should have got rid of
- 6:07Speaker 6: the ball a step or two earlier. They did a
- 6:09Speaker 6: tremendous job. The physical mindset of this team just was
- 6:13Speaker 6: everywhere you looked yesterday and it was great to see.
- 6:16Speaker 5: Our final big thing today is going to be Double's debut.
- 6:19Speaker 5: We talked a ton about Travis Hunter playing on both
- 6:21Speaker 5: sides of the football.
- 6:22Speaker 4: He did that.
- 6:23Speaker 5: It's an evolving situation of head coach Liam Cohen says,
- 6:26Speaker 5: it'll probably change.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Week to week.
- 6:28Speaker 1: That was game one, you know, I think that was
- 6:31Speaker 1: week one where you missed ten days or so and
- 6:34Speaker 1: there was some, you know, a lot of different kind
- 6:37Speaker 1: of coverage changes in the back end for us with
- 6:40Speaker 1: some of their formations adjustments. It was a lot those
- 6:44Speaker 1: guys had to handle defensively, and so it was maybe,
- 6:47Speaker 1: excuse me, a little bit less for him this game.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I think it'll only continue to evolve and go more.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I thought he played hard on offense. I thought he
- 6:56Speaker 1: played fast, he had some good catches, ran the right route.
- 6:58Speaker 1: So I can only see it going and expanding from here.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Fran we talked a ton about Travis hun Are playing
- 7:05Speaker 5: on both sides.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Of the football.
- 7:06Speaker 5: It was mostly offense in this game, but I think
- 7:08Speaker 5: going forward we may see more shifts to him playing
- 7:11Speaker 5: a little bit more on defense.
- 7:13Speaker 4: But what was your evaluation of what was the offense?
- 7:15Speaker 6: Well, we saw what thirty nine snaps on offense, which
- 7:17Speaker 6: I think we figured because the Panthers are going to
- 7:20Speaker 6: run the ball so much, we only saw six snaps
- 7:22Speaker 6: from him, And I think you're right. I think it
- 7:23Speaker 6: might change this week when you go up against a
- 7:25Speaker 6: team with Joe Burrow to Higgins, Jamar Chase. Who's the
- 7:28Speaker 6: best receiver in football right now? I mean, I have
- 7:31Speaker 6: nothing to base that on none of us do because
- 7:32Speaker 6: it's only the second game for this young man in
- 7:34Speaker 6: the NFL. But I would think that situationally, week to week,
- 7:38Speaker 6: you might be able to look and just say here
- 7:40Speaker 6: we go. But it's there is a strategic element to it.
- 7:44Speaker 6: They're figuring that out as they go along. If you
- 7:46Speaker 6: ask Liam, I'm sure he would tell you we are
- 7:49Speaker 6: going week to week with this thing. I would think
- 7:52Speaker 6: that this would be a week you might see more defense.
- 7:54Speaker 2: John, Yeah, I think it'll grow in large part when
- 7:57Speaker 2: you're playing a big, physical team that wants to run.
- 8:01Speaker 2: I don't particularly when Travis Hunter out there taking a
- 8:03Speaker 2: lot of pounding trying to stop at two hundred and
- 8:06Speaker 2: twenty pound running back. So I also think from what
- 8:10Speaker 2: Liam said, a part of it was the fact that
- 8:13Speaker 2: he missed ten days in training camp. There's a lot
- 8:16Speaker 2: of information to absorb. He's absorbing it, but he missed
- 8:19Speaker 2: that a little bit. But look, he showed some flashes offensively.
- 8:23Speaker 2: He's a very exciting player, and even though he's a
- 8:27Speaker 2: number two pick in the draft, he's still a rookie.
- 8:30Speaker 2: This will grow. He'll come along and we'll find out
- 8:33Speaker 2: in the next four or five weeks what this is
- 8:35Speaker 2: going to look like.
- 8:36Speaker 3: You know, for what it's worth, Kite. He loved it.
- 8:38Speaker 6: You know, he came to the podium after the game,
- 8:39Speaker 6: and you know, he has not been that effusive, He's
- 8:42Speaker 6: not been that normally outwardly, you know, joyful guy that
- 8:46Speaker 6: we saw early on. He's been pretty closed during training camp.
- 8:49Speaker 6: But he had that great, big smile on his face
- 8:51Speaker 6: and he enjoyed it, and he talked with the media
- 8:53Speaker 6: about how he knows what kind of player he is
- 8:55Speaker 6: and he knows he has to get better and he
- 8:57Speaker 6: knows he can get better. I was really impressed just
- 9:00Speaker 6: with him and the joy that we saw from him
- 9:02Speaker 6: afterwards in his first NFL game.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I think clearly he was happy to go out there,
- 9:06Speaker 5: let it his play speak for him as well, and
- 9:09Speaker 5: kind of start that new part of his career.
- 9:11Speaker 4: So stay with us here on jag Zam.
- 9:13Speaker 5: We got the highlights coming for you after the break
- 9:14Speaker 5: here on victory Monday.
- 9:30Speaker 7: Yes, it feels great. Where's the direction we're heading? Like
- 9:33Speaker 7: I said, you can't take it for what of this
- 9:35Speaker 7: We won in a week once. We want to know
- 9:37Speaker 7: to start the season, and we're all pumped about that.
- 9:40Speaker 7: A lot of work went into it, and we're not
- 9:42Speaker 7: no one takes for granted. You know how hard it
- 9:44Speaker 7: is to win in this league, so we're all really
- 9:45Speaker 7: proud of that. But it's one game, so you know.
- 9:49Speaker 3: We got to keep doing it.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Certainly is not easy to win in the NFL, so
- 9:54Speaker 5: we'll take a dub when we get a dub, but
- 9:56Speaker 5: we're going to enjoy it today and we're going to
- 9:58Speaker 5: look back at some of the highlights because it was
- 10:00Speaker 5: fun and a lot of different things happened. Obviously, there
- 10:03Speaker 5: was that huge stoppage in the second quarter, so I
- 10:05Speaker 5: felt like we went through different phases of the game
- 10:07Speaker 5: as well at different times. But I didn't know if
- 10:10Speaker 5: we were gonna be talking a ton about the defense
- 10:11Speaker 5: considering where we were last year. But that was the
- 10:13Speaker 5: story of the day for me. So Aluiken, probably you
- 10:17Speaker 5: know your player of the game in some regards.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Player one A for sure. I thought Dewey Winger played
- 10:22Speaker 6: amazing football. I mean when he hit people, they went backwards,
- 10:26Speaker 6: so he would be one B.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's gonna have a chat with his safety
- 10:30Speaker 2: mate and who I'm not sure he made such a
- 10:32Speaker 2: bad play on the penalty, but you know there's gonna
- 10:35Speaker 2: be a conversation about taking away his touchdown. But I mean,
- 10:38Speaker 2: that's obviously all that's fun. I also thought, you can't
- 10:43Speaker 2: you can't discount what Jordan Lewis did. I mean, we
- 10:46Speaker 2: talked all off season about intercepting and getting hands on
- 10:50Speaker 2: the ball, and they had their hands on the ball
- 10:52Speaker 2: a lot there for a secondary that was the story
- 10:57Speaker 2: in the wrong direction last year. Do you make him
- 10:59Speaker 2: play in the ball like that? I don't know how
- 11:02Speaker 2: good guyce Young is, but boyd, did they make plays
- 11:08Speaker 2: in a way that they wanted to make plays.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Well.
- 11:11Speaker 6: Something else worth mentioning is that you know, Eric Murray
- 11:13Speaker 6: comes in and he sets that play up there, and
- 11:14Speaker 6: you mentioned Jordan Lewis had the interception that ended the game.
- 11:17Speaker 6: So two free agents come in and help change the
- 11:20Speaker 6: direction of the secondary and of the defense.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Great effort all around.
- 11:25Speaker 6: On the part of James Gladstone, Tony Boselli and Liam
- 11:27Speaker 6: Cohen to identify guys who could help them make quick
- 11:31Speaker 6: changes here.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah, and there were so many times yesterday where we've
- 11:37Speaker 2: all been around football a lot. We've been a lot
- 11:38Speaker 2: on a lot of training camps where they have their
- 11:40Speaker 2: talking points, right, they talk about stuff and you're sitting
- 11:44Speaker 2: rolling your eyes. A lot of years the things they
- 11:46Speaker 2: talked about came to fruition. How many times did you
- 11:49Speaker 2: hear Camp and Eely talk about we're going to be
- 11:52Speaker 2: running to the ball, our eyes on the ball. Well,
- 11:54Speaker 2: the first interception of the game was Murray with his
- 11:57Speaker 2: eyes on the ball making a tip and then Foy
- 12:00Speaker 2: and I can able to play being around the ball.
- 12:02Speaker 2: So it's my hot take later because I have hot takes. Yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 2: but this was exactly what they wanted.
- 12:10Speaker 3: To be exactly.
- 12:11Speaker 5: Let's take a look at this first touchdown drive for them.
- 12:14Speaker 5: They got a I will also say on their first
- 12:17Speaker 5: drive for them to go on for it on fourth down.
- 12:19Speaker 5: We're not going to show that, but being yeah, being confident,
- 12:24Speaker 5: being I.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Mean attacking right, attack part of fast.
- 12:27Speaker 2: He got attack.
- 12:27Speaker 3: He said he was going to do it, and I thought, well,
- 12:30Speaker 3: here we go right out of.
- 12:31Speaker 4: The gate and it worked.
- 12:32Speaker 5: So he looks really smart. Yeah, so we liked that.
- 12:34Speaker 5: But let's take a look at this touchdown drive. Trevor
- 12:37Speaker 5: had a I think a decent day to start. Maybe
- 12:39Speaker 5: a little got a little lost in the second half there,
- 12:41Speaker 5: but early it looked good. Scrambled and then sets up
- 12:45Speaker 5: I did not have on my bingo card that Hunter
- 12:46Speaker 5: Long was going to have the first touchdown of the year.
- 12:48Speaker 4: But it works for me and I'm here for it.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Just just smart.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Plays out of the out of the gate and kind
- 12:53Speaker 5: of seeing him as we discussed John, making stuff happen.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Whether that was the play that was drowned up originally,
- 12:58Speaker 5: not this one in particular, but just making his way
- 13:00Speaker 5: through the offense and making decisions.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I thought he played. You know, I got some emails people,
- 13:07Speaker 2: Oh he's not improving. It's that first game in the scheme.
- 13:11Speaker 2: I thought he missed some in the second half, but
- 13:14Speaker 2: I also thought there were some throws in key moments
- 13:17Speaker 2: and some decisions made. They were the right decisions. I
- 13:21Speaker 2: don't know if he's ever going to be a top
- 13:23Speaker 2: three quarterback in the NFL. He plays like this and
- 13:27Speaker 2: builds on this. He's a quarterback you can win with.
- 13:30Speaker 2: And maybe people don't want to hear that, but that's
- 13:33Speaker 2: where he is now, and I think if he builds
- 13:36Speaker 2: on where he is, I think you can get a
- 13:38Speaker 2: lot done with him as he grows in this offense.
- 13:40Speaker 6: Yeah, he was better than the numbers would suggest. The
- 13:42Speaker 6: numbers seem rather pedestrian. But I thought he was in
- 13:44Speaker 6: control and command for most of the game. You know,
- 13:47Speaker 6: two plays you'd like back. The first was the intentional grounding.
- 13:50Speaker 6: I mean, this is something he still has to learn
- 13:53Speaker 6: to do, is understand the circumstances.
- 13:55Speaker 3: It's first intent at the nineteen.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Yard like, just get rid of the ball, right, live
- 13:58Speaker 6: to fight another play, And we've seen from time to
- 14:00Speaker 6: time from him over his career, and the other ones
- 14:02Speaker 6: put the ball another foot over. Although jac Horn made
- 14:06Speaker 6: an amazing play on that interception, just astounding.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's tough to say he'd want to
- 14:11Speaker 2: have that one. I mean, he may have missed that
- 14:13Speaker 2: throw by six inches. Yeah, it's a touch. I mean
- 14:16Speaker 2: he missed one to BTJ. That was a pretty easy
- 14:19Speaker 2: throw that you're OK. But you know what I mean,
- 14:22Speaker 2: Aber a lot of quarterbacks. Quarterback just throws every now
- 14:24Speaker 2: and then. I mean c J. Stroud everything is the
- 14:26Speaker 2: best quarterback in the division through four hundred and eighty
- 14:28Speaker 2: eight yesterday.
- 14:29Speaker 3: So let's see what he does. So let's not.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Automatically assume that the couple of misses what we're going
- 14:35Speaker 2: to see. I liked the way the offense ran and
- 14:40Speaker 2: it seemed like they liked the way he controlled it,
- 14:43Speaker 2: and I said, all along, they want to get They
- 14:46Speaker 2: kept him in a lot of non gray yesterday. Do
- 14:49Speaker 2: that for a few weeks and then see how he
- 14:51Speaker 2: starts making plays as he gains footing in this offense.
- 14:54Speaker 4: For me, clearly the focus was the run game. Yesterday.
- 14:57Speaker 5: We talked about all of them contributing, but traves E
- 14:59Speaker 5: t his longest career rush there. Ran out of gas
- 15:03Speaker 5: a little bit at the end, which he'll tell you himself,
- 15:05Speaker 5: but great to see. Kind of Also the block Brent
- 15:08Speaker 5: Stranger throws in the beginning to set it up.
- 15:10Speaker 4: The whole thing was just that's football. You just love
- 15:12Speaker 4: to see it.
- 15:13Speaker 6: Well you actually Travis Etn on the pregame show, we
- 15:17Speaker 6: talked about him the last couple of weeks. He had
- 15:18Speaker 6: a tremendous camp. He seemed primed and ready to go.
- 15:21Speaker 6: I thought he ran tough. I've never thought of him
- 15:23Speaker 6: as a tough runner. But there were a couple of
- 15:26Speaker 6: runs up the middle, and I mean jumping into the
- 15:28Speaker 6: middle and then cutting it back.
- 15:29Speaker 3: That's the elite cutback there. That was tremendous.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know, I mean, I don't know if
- 15:35Speaker 2: I'm right on this, but it looked when he was
- 15:37Speaker 2: a rookie. I think he takes this thing outside. I'm
- 15:41Speaker 2: not to work it. The second year. I think he
- 15:42Speaker 2: takes that run outside and gets seven yards going the line.
- 15:46Speaker 2: He has worked. I've talked to him a little bit
- 15:48Speaker 2: about it, and so you guys have too. He's worked
- 15:50Speaker 2: at going after that whole inside as we did on
- 15:54Speaker 2: that run, and he did a lot yesterday. It's hard
- 15:57Speaker 2: for him to be a tough, physical running back because
- 15:59Speaker 2: he's not that way felt like Tang Bigsby. But he
- 16:02Speaker 2: ran hard and I thought going in that he was
- 16:06Speaker 2: going to have a big year. And he's on my
- 16:09Speaker 2: fantasy team, by the way, and that and that interesting
- 16:11Speaker 2: daybody who's not now.
- 16:13Speaker 4: It's really important that he plays, though, but.
- 16:16Speaker 2: He really fits. And I said it a million times.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I don't think this regime was sure about him when
- 16:22Speaker 2: they took over, and he absolutely embraced the opportunity his
- 16:27Speaker 2: role and they love him. I mean, he's a big
- 16:30Speaker 2: part of this playing.
- 16:31Speaker 6: On a fifth year option, and they draft to running
- 16:33Speaker 6: backs that they love. If your Travis, you are playing
- 16:37Speaker 6: for your future and probably most likely not here. But
- 16:42Speaker 6: if he plays like that over and over, he's going
- 16:44Speaker 6: to force them to make some decisions. I just think
- 16:46Speaker 6: that it's a tremendous opportunity for him. His brother was here, obviously,
- 16:50Speaker 6: he had family here for him to come out and play.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Well like that.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Trevor and Travis were both first round picks from Clemson
- 16:57Speaker 6: in twenty twenty one. It's a big year. That was
- 16:59Speaker 6: a big moment for Trevor. Yesterday turned out for Travis too.
- 17:03Speaker 6: Good for both of them to come through in a
- 17:04Speaker 6: big way.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Well, he's a pro now, and I think when he
- 17:07Speaker 2: was a kid he was maybe a good player. Now
- 17:12Speaker 2: he's the kind of guy who.
- 17:12Speaker 3: Helps you win.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Yeah, nice to see for him personally successful for him,
- 17:16Speaker 5: but also just we talked a ton about that crowded
- 17:19Speaker 5: running back room, but we saw success from Travis taking
- 17:21Speaker 5: over that main role and then contributions elsewhere.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Baseil Tooton looks good.
- 17:25Speaker 5: Brian Thomas had a rushing touchdown on that play there,
- 17:28Speaker 5: so we just saw so that was great. Let's talk
- 17:30Speaker 5: a little bit about situational football. We discussed that force
- 17:32Speaker 5: fumble to get the turnover close to the second half
- 17:34Speaker 5: after that delay setting up the field goal. So Foy Luke,
- 17:38Speaker 5: and we already talked about his interception, but being smart
- 17:41Speaker 5: about forcing the football. He talked about when he saw
- 17:43Speaker 5: the quarterback leave the pocket. You know, you don't want
- 17:45Speaker 5: to go after anybody's head. You don't want to get
- 17:47Speaker 5: a penalty. So he said, I'm gonna take my shot
- 17:48Speaker 5: at the ball, and that's exactly what worked out for him.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Such a smart, heady player.
- 17:52Speaker 6: You know, he's a guy who racks up tackle after
- 17:54Speaker 6: tackle after tackle, and as in his career, had some
- 17:58Speaker 6: of these kinds of plays, but it's not what he's
- 17:59Speaker 6: known four So for him to come out yesterday and
- 18:02Speaker 6: create two of them that led to ten points in
- 18:04Speaker 6: the first half, that's a nice sign for a guy
- 18:06Speaker 6: who's playing in a new scheme for the first time.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Well look, Liam said it, and the NFL is different
- 18:12Speaker 2: than when I started covering. It's now a game of
- 18:15Speaker 2: momentum where no lead is safe. At the time, that
- 18:19Speaker 2: was seventeen to three games and they're thirty two. You know,
- 18:23Speaker 2: in a lot of years that's seventeen ten at halftime
- 18:26Speaker 2: you're holding your breath. This year, they get a turnover,
- 18:28Speaker 2: go down and score. It's twenty three games over and
- 18:32Speaker 2: that turn was in what a forty five seconds, so
- 18:35Speaker 2: again a situation. They won a lot of momentum swinging
- 18:40Speaker 2: situations and turned it back in their favor and made
- 18:42Speaker 2: that game look very comfortable, which it was. Don't you know.
- 18:45Speaker 2: I had some emails last night guys of you know,
- 18:47Speaker 2: complaining about it and how many comfortable victories have you
- 18:50Speaker 2: had around you no matter the opponent as situation. You
- 18:55Speaker 2: never felt after that field goal that they were pressured.
- 18:58Speaker 2: It doesn't happen a lot in the NFL. It's a
- 19:00Speaker 2: good sign they could do that no matter the opponent.
- 19:01Speaker 6: And that play to the thirty two yard line before
- 19:03Speaker 6: Foyer forced it is another example of what you talked
- 19:06Speaker 6: about resiliency. You know, here they are getting backed up
- 19:09Speaker 6: and he comes through with the big play. It just
- 19:11Speaker 6: felt that way all day that when the Jaguars gave
- 19:14Speaker 6: something up, they had what it took to get it back.
- 19:17Speaker 5: Let's take a look at that play where we're talking
- 19:18Speaker 5: about Trevor's throw. The interception a remarkable play by jac Horn,
- 19:22Speaker 5: pro Bowl player at.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Corner for the Panthers.
- 19:24Speaker 5: But to go up and get it I think, I
- 19:27Speaker 5: I think for Trevor normally he he hits that a
- 19:30Speaker 5: little bit farther more in stride for tr Again, amazing player.
- 19:33Speaker 5: I'm not knocking and saying it was a terrible throw
- 19:35Speaker 5: by Trevor by any means. Amazing play by jac Horn
- 19:37Speaker 5: to go up and get that ball. But it might
- 19:40Speaker 5: have been Travis Hunder's first touchdown if it was a
- 19:42Speaker 5: touch higher.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Oh, he had a smile on his face.
- 19:44Speaker 6: Yeah, he talked in the in his post game that
- 19:46Speaker 6: he was going if he grabs that ball, and John
- 19:48Speaker 6: you said he missed it maybe by six inches a
- 19:50Speaker 6: foot at the most.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it was just a great play.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I kind of wonder if he even missed it. I
- 19:55Speaker 2: mean it, I'll give the benefit of doubt that he did.
- 19:58Speaker 2: But look, he's a prob player, and this, to me
- 20:02Speaker 2: came out of the category of those guys get paid to.
- 20:04Speaker 3: That's one hundred million dollar corner.
- 20:06Speaker 4: You.
- 20:08Speaker 2: If this game was easy, you'd win them all thirty five.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Nothing like college.
- 20:12Speaker 4: It's hard defense. Though.
- 20:15Speaker 5: On the other side, when the Panthers decided to go
- 20:17Speaker 5: for it and fourth down a couple of times yesterday,
- 20:18Speaker 5: actually to get those stops, that was the first thing
- 20:22Speaker 5: we haven't seen around here.
- 20:23Speaker 6: Either, the first one, and I don't know if you're
- 20:24Speaker 6: going to show that, but the first one on third
- 20:26Speaker 6: down to watch Trayvon Walker with one hand take the
- 20:29Speaker 6: end of the tackle and close the hole and Dewey
- 20:31Speaker 6: wingerd come up and just hit it with forrest. Set
- 20:33Speaker 6: up fourth down, they got pressure and then Tyson Campbell's
- 20:37Speaker 6: play right here was I don't know the last.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Time I saw a play like that on the goal line.
- 20:41Speaker 6: I mean maybe Jalen Ramsey against Philadelphia in London in
- 20:44Speaker 6: twenty eighteen. But it's been a long time since we've
- 20:47Speaker 6: seen a corner make a big time to play. And
- 20:49Speaker 6: that receiver, by the way, was bedeviling everybody yesterday with
- 20:52Speaker 6: his length and his hype.
- 20:53Speaker 2: YEA, they a secondary that was fairly last year. They revamped,
- 21:02Speaker 2: they rebuilt, They had plays from guys who've been around.
- 21:04Speaker 2: They played from the veteran all season during training camp,
- 21:08Speaker 2: I kept hearing from people the key is communication. I
- 21:11Speaker 2: don't know that they have Pro Bowl players in the secondary,
- 21:14Speaker 2: maybe one, but Eric Murray, winding guard Jordan Lewis. The
- 21:18Speaker 2: communication is high and there were no breaks yesterday.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Well in confidence, right, I mean, I think at times
- 21:23Speaker 6: last year we saw Tyson Campbell tried to do too
- 21:25Speaker 6: much because he knew that they had mount Terrek Brown
- 21:28Speaker 6: on the other side. That's not Jordan Lewis. You didn't
- 21:31Speaker 6: have on Rcisco in safety, not Eric Murray. And so
- 21:34Speaker 6: those guys get frustrated and they try to make plays
- 21:36Speaker 6: because as the season went along, let's be fa last
- 21:39Speaker 6: year that plays it made. So I think there's a
- 21:42Speaker 6: confidence level amongst these guys and that they can do
- 21:46Speaker 6: their job and not worry about anyone else's and that
- 21:49Speaker 6: we saw that yesterday.
- 21:50Speaker 2: And you had you had a couple of safeties who
- 21:52Speaker 2: can hit. To remember the game in the balance, Eric
- 21:54Speaker 2: Murray had a huge play. How to remember it because
- 21:58Speaker 2: there were other highlight plays, but maybe some tone setting
- 22:01Speaker 2: going on too.
- 22:02Speaker 5: Yeah, sure, and talk about tone setting. Jordan Lewis had
- 22:04Speaker 5: that interception kind of to seal it at the end.
- 22:06Speaker 5: Obviously Dewey's interception I got called back because of penalty.
- 22:09Speaker 5: But Jordan Lewis the captain, first year captain. Here is
- 22:12Speaker 5: a free agent. Three takeaways in last year they had nine.
- 22:17Speaker 4: They're already had a third of their total last year.
- 22:19Speaker 2: Well, and this one went back. Sorry guy, it goes
- 22:23Speaker 2: back to eyes on the ball. I mean they believe
- 22:26Speaker 2: that with playing more zone, having eyes on the ball,
- 22:31Speaker 2: that they will get more picks. And they got two yesterday.
- 22:35Speaker 2: I'm saying they wouldn't have got them they were in man,
- 22:38Speaker 2: but it certainly looked like these were eyes on the ball.
- 22:40Speaker 6: Picks the other thing, and there's not a sack that
- 22:45Speaker 6: we can really show.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I mean one, but forty one.
- 22:49Speaker 6: To forty four were in the backfield, and so we're
- 22:51Speaker 6: ninety and ninety eight oak Bough and Smooth. I mean,
- 22:55Speaker 6: they got a lot of pressure. They didn't get to
- 22:57Speaker 6: him very often. They obviously had the game plan to
- 23:00Speaker 6: get rid of the ball quickly, but the Jaguars front
- 23:02Speaker 6: on defense put a lot of pressure on those guys.
- 23:04Speaker 2: We think about what they did too. We talked a
- 23:05Speaker 2: little bit during training camp about this decision making, Trio's
- 23:10Speaker 2: willingness to go and dress stuff. They went out and
- 23:13Speaker 2: got Smooth and on the series we had the sack.
- 23:16Speaker 2: He also had a huge stop. I think it was
- 23:17Speaker 2: on second down. You bring in some guys who matter,
- 23:23Speaker 2: and you feel deeper, you feel better at that spot.
- 23:25Speaker 2: So again, there's so many things you couldn't have had
- 23:28Speaker 2: in some ways if they had done their little script,
- 23:32Speaker 2: they kind of went through and checked it and they're
- 23:34Speaker 2: probably walking around feeling very good and they should.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Today.
- 23:37Speaker 5: We feel good today because it's victory Monday. We always
- 23:39Speaker 5: feel good on victory Monday. So with us on jag Zam,
- 23:40Speaker 5: we have hot takes for you coming up after the break.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Hot Takes on jag z Am today, brought to you
- 23:53Speaker 5: by Firehouse.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Subs coming out here and then everybody flying around and everybody,
- 24:00Speaker 2: you know, keeping that camaraderie that we have from off
- 24:02Speaker 2: seasons to this first game.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I mean, it just felt great.
- 24:04Speaker 2: So in the turnovers, like we're doing stuff right.
- 24:07Speaker 3: Let's keep doing it, let's keep improving on it.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Welcome back into jag Zam. Fire House Subs bringing you
- 24:12Speaker 5: hot takes today. They're also free Medium subs if you
- 24:15Speaker 5: buy a medium sub check out the app. Because cam
- 24:18Speaker 5: Little makes field goals, that's a good thing for people
- 24:20Speaker 5: that like.
- 24:20Speaker 3: It's going to cost fire House some money this year.
- 24:22Speaker 4: They are going to be giving out a lot of sandwiches,
- 24:24Speaker 4: I imagine.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I think every game makes it feel it's.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Forty yards plus field.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Goal, which seems like a given sleep.
- 24:31Speaker 5: I know, I know they're going to be given out
- 24:34Speaker 5: a lot of sandwiches, So that's good for them.
- 24:35Speaker 4: But Brian, what's your hot take.
- 24:37Speaker 6: Forse Listen, every coach talks about physical it's a physical game,
- 24:42Speaker 6: but we have not seen a real physical team around
- 24:43Speaker 6: here for a while. Liam Cohen said it the first
- 24:46Speaker 6: day he was here, and last week it was the worst. Coordinators, coaches,
- 24:50Speaker 6: players and the head coach all talked about being the
- 24:53Speaker 6: more physical team, and they were. And I'm looking at
- 24:56Speaker 6: next week against Cincinnati and I expect this team to
- 24:58Speaker 6: go be the most physical team on the field next
- 25:01Speaker 6: week against the Bengals.
- 25:03Speaker 3: In fact, the next week.
- 25:04Speaker 6: The Texans come in and the Jaguars got pushed around
- 25:07Speaker 6: by the Texans. So we've got a test in the
- 25:09Speaker 6: next two weeks. Can they continue to be physical? And
- 25:12Speaker 6: I think they will be next week against Cincinnati, and
- 25:14Speaker 6: then can they be the more physical team in two
- 25:17Speaker 6: weeks when the Texans are here. I love the physicality
- 25:20Speaker 6: that I saw along both lines. I think John that
- 25:23Speaker 6: this was the best tackling performance that I've seen from
- 25:25Speaker 6: a Jaguars defense since twenty seventeen. I think the mindset
- 25:29Speaker 6: is there. They've got the bodies up front, They've made
- 25:32Speaker 6: the improvements on both lines, to be a physical football team,
- 25:36Speaker 6: and on Sunday in Cincinnati, I expect them to be
- 25:38Speaker 6: the more physical of the two teams.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's how they wanted to play. And it's sort
- 25:44Speaker 2: of segues into my hot takes hearing that John, But
- 25:49Speaker 2: it's exactly what they wanted to look like. And that's
- 25:53Speaker 2: rare that in the opener because it's so weird. We
- 26:00Speaker 2: talk about every year how weird the openers are. This
- 26:02Speaker 2: one wasn't weird to the Jaguars. They did exactly what
- 26:05Speaker 2: they wanted to do. They ran. If you had asked
- 26:08Speaker 2: Liam on Sunday morning, do you think you can run
- 26:11Speaker 2: for two hundred you probably said yes, you know, do
- 26:13Speaker 2: you think you really will? Two hundreds hard to get
- 26:15Speaker 2: to and it was the way they ran to the
- 26:19Speaker 2: seventy one yard or early, and then they picked up
- 26:22Speaker 2: some third downs, they picked up some first downs running
- 26:25Speaker 2: the ball. And then to flip it and to talk
- 26:28Speaker 2: all off season about turnovers, to say, it's what you
- 26:31Speaker 2: wanted to do, to be physical and to get those takeaways.
- 26:38Speaker 2: A coach is like being able to I'm sure there's
- 26:41Speaker 2: stuff they can scrutinize, but they also like every now
- 26:44Speaker 2: and then to say, see, if you do this, you
- 26:47Speaker 2: can have these results. I think they got that kind
- 26:49Speaker 2: of a game. When you're taking over a new regime,
- 26:54Speaker 2: it is important. I think Foya mentioned it for the
- 26:57Speaker 2: players to get some success with it, because then they're
- 27:00Speaker 2: not in their group text going hey does this really work?
- 27:04Speaker 2: You know, there's no doubt this morning from these guys
- 27:08Speaker 2: that what they're selling, if they buy, they can win.
- 27:12Speaker 5: It's nice to see the words backed up by the
- 27:14Speaker 5: act YEA, yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Yeah, which really does havep You're talking about young people
- 27:19Speaker 2: who are players who if they don't see it, then
- 27:23Speaker 2: all of a sudden you doubt it. And they should
- 27:24Speaker 2: have a lot of confidence in what in the approach
- 27:28Speaker 2: right now after yesterday.
- 27:29Speaker 6: Yesterday met the standard met It didn't exceeded right because
- 27:33Speaker 6: there were penalties and things like that. But Liam talked
- 27:35Speaker 6: about a standard. They met it yesterday and if you
- 27:37Speaker 6: continue to approach it and meet it, eventually that standard.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Becomes your culture.
- 27:42Speaker 5: Mine is a little more player specific, and I'm stealing
- 27:45Speaker 5: from Jeff Logerman a little bit because I know this
- 27:47Speaker 5: is his favorite player. But for me on this team,
- 27:50Speaker 5: Brenton Strange is better than Evan Ingram. Yes, Evan Ingram,
- 27:53Speaker 5: also one of my favorite players, had a ton of
- 27:55Speaker 5: success here offensively but as a full tight end. If
- 27:59Speaker 5: you love football and you go back and watch this tape,
- 28:01Speaker 5: you look at travessey Can's long run, look at the
- 28:04Speaker 5: block that's set on the left side by Brenton Strange,
- 28:06Speaker 5: and then late in the fourth quarter, Tanks Bigsby has
- 28:07Speaker 5: a run and he lays out a man with his
- 28:11Speaker 5: shoulder And I watched it like ten times already.
- 28:15Speaker 4: It's spectacular if you love football.
- 28:17Speaker 5: The way he sets blocks, and I truly believe when
- 28:19Speaker 5: he says he loves to set a block as much
- 28:21Speaker 5: as he loves to catch touches well.
- 28:22Speaker 6: And he had four catches and all of them felt
- 28:24Speaker 6: like they were important at the time. They were keeping
- 28:26Speaker 6: the drive going. So what a complete football player. He
- 28:29Speaker 6: was a second round pick who didn't come out of
- 28:32Speaker 6: the show as a rookie, and people said, well, he
- 28:34Speaker 6: was a second round pick, shouldn't he be better than this?
- 28:37Speaker 4: He hasn't always given opportunity.
- 28:38Speaker 6: To without a doubt, but he's developed into a pro.
- 28:42Speaker 6: Like Traves, he was a good player, and he is a.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Really good football I mean really good.
- 28:47Speaker 6: He may never make a Pro Bowl because tight ends
- 28:50Speaker 6: are judged by the number of catches in the league
- 28:52Speaker 6: that values the passing game.
- 28:54Speaker 3: But that was a Pro Bowl caliber performance that he
- 28:56Speaker 3: put on yesterday.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and in another vein of checking every box on
- 29:01Speaker 2: the run, Brenton had a great block. The fact that
- 29:04Speaker 2: Diame was the thirty five yards downfield blocking. How many
- 29:07Speaker 2: times did you hear Liam talking the off season about
- 29:09Speaker 2: wide receivers needing the block. Every team tells its wide
- 29:13Speaker 2: receivers they need a block, right, doesn't always happen. But
- 29:18Speaker 2: these guys have bought into that, and that block gave
- 29:20Speaker 2: twenty five more yards on that play. So if you
- 29:24Speaker 2: don't get that, you're not at the twenty, you're at
- 29:25Speaker 2: the fifty a drive constall, So they really got a lesson.
- 29:28Speaker 2: They'll put that on the board this week and say,
- 29:30Speaker 2: see this is what we're talking about. It helps you win.
- 29:33Speaker 4: Absolutely. Stay with here on Jagszam.
- 29:35Speaker 5: Coming up after the break, we'll tell you what the
- 29:36Speaker 5: schedules for the rest of the week and when we
- 29:37Speaker 5: got coming up.
- 29:44Speaker 4: Jags Van. If you want customized Jaguars.
- 29:46Speaker 5: Furniture for your home, check got zipchare dot com to
- 29:48Speaker 5: rouse all the customizable options zipchair is furniture.
- 29:51Speaker 8: For fans, been a competitor, been a football player. We
- 29:57Speaker 8: don't work hard to come on here and not put
- 29:59Speaker 8: our best foot forward. Well, my little brother on the
- 30:01Speaker 8: other sideline, had motivation, kind of wanted to show him
- 30:04Speaker 8: how to run the ball, show him how has done so.
- 30:07Speaker 8: This is a great feeling just being able to shed
- 30:09Speaker 8: a field with him and being able to come out
- 30:12Speaker 8: with doings.
- 30:13Speaker 4: Big day for the Ecn family.
- 30:15Speaker 5: Travis little brother, Trevor, drafted by the Panthers, got some
- 30:17Speaker 5: action on special teams. But I wrote about this for you, John,
- 30:21Speaker 5: for what a difference in year makes this time. Last year,
- 30:24Speaker 5: Traves Ytn fumbles at the goal line and it felt
- 30:26Speaker 5: like everything kind of went down the spiral after that.
- 30:29Speaker 5: But as I will always give credit to Travis Ytn
- 30:32Speaker 5: for he stood up after that game, spoke about it,
- 30:35Speaker 5: took you know, ownership of that, and then for him
- 30:38Speaker 5: to come out and have such a.
- 30:39Speaker 4: Great game in the first game of this season. It
- 30:41Speaker 4: was nice to see the one eighty.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Look he He's turned into a pro and he was
- 30:45Speaker 2: always I've always liked being around Travis. I've always liked
- 30:50Speaker 2: it because he's very introspective, and understands running back situation
- 30:55Speaker 2: in the NFL. But I said early, if you had
- 31:00Speaker 2: have fifty three guys with his mindset, his approach, you
- 31:04Speaker 2: can win a lot of games. He's he could have
- 31:08Speaker 2: easily gone the other direction. When there was all the
- 31:12Speaker 2: trade talk in the off season, all of the you know,
- 31:15Speaker 2: you draft two guys. Everybody assumed Tank was going to
- 31:18Speaker 2: be the guy, and Tank out rushed him. You know,
- 31:22Speaker 2: Travis was the starter, but Tank was really the number
- 31:25Speaker 2: one running back last year. He played through it, maturely,
- 31:28Speaker 2: went about his business, and he is a pro who,
- 31:31Speaker 2: as I said earlier, out of fifty three guys, not
- 31:35Speaker 2: all of them, you know, are tangibly helping you win
- 31:38Speaker 2: all the time, you know, but this is a guy
- 31:40Speaker 2: who does things to help you win. I'm a big
- 31:44Speaker 2: Travis fan.
- 31:44Speaker 6: We've talked a lot about the running game. Just one point.
- 31:46Speaker 6: I don't think we have touched on much. The run
- 31:48Speaker 6: defense was really good. I mean, Hubbard had won fifty
- 31:50Speaker 6: seven yards on sixteen carriage. They had forty yards from
- 31:54Speaker 6: the quarterback scrambling out of the pocket, which is something
- 31:56Speaker 6: that Jaguars have to fix. But for them to take
- 31:59Speaker 6: a guy who was at the housing yard rusher and
- 32:00Speaker 6: a good running football team. They shut the running game down,
- 32:04Speaker 6: so kudos to the run defense.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Also got out of there relatively healthy as well. I
- 32:08Speaker 5: know Anton Harrison left later in the game, so we'll hear.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Back really really late. I'm not sure about that.
- 32:12Speaker 5: Yeah, so we'll have to hear what the severity of
- 32:14Speaker 5: that is. But we'll hear from Liam Cohen this afternoon
- 32:16Speaker 5: and then we'll be back with you guys here on
- 32:18Speaker 5: jag Zam on Wednesdays, we look ahead to the Bengals
- 32:21Speaker 5: in Week two. Enjoy victory Monday,
