- 0:00Speaker 1: Who ended up starting a day to play really well
- 0:02Speaker 1: and helped extend that bench opportunity. And Caravan was terrific
- 0:06Speaker 1: the entire game, knocking down shot.
- 0:08Speaker 2: He had a career high twenty seven points. This was
- 0:11Speaker 2: a great game as well, Kansas taking on Saint john
- 0:15Speaker 2: Saint John's had the lead early ZUBI edge of four.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Taking on his former team, they won and a halftime
- 0:21Speaker 2: with an eight point lead.
- 0:22Speaker 3: Ian Jackson keeping it going.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Oooh baby, A little dump up and overmove keeps it going.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Darren Peterson hits the three. Darren Peterson was hitting shots,
- 0:32Speaker 2: but there were questions late. Bryce Hopkins was the story
- 0:36Speaker 2: for Saint John's six threes in this one. Saint John's
- 0:39Speaker 2: had double digit threes, not something you see often. Darren
- 0:42Speaker 2: Peterson going in with the hoop and the harm and
- 0:45Speaker 2: the Jayhawks are crawling back. Zoobie, a model of consistency
- 0:50Speaker 2: for the Johnnies, gets it going, but Kansas goes on
- 0:53Speaker 2: a sixteen to four run. At the end of this game,
- 0:56Speaker 2: they had all of the momentum. They were getting put
- 0:58Speaker 2: backs by Rizzari Peterson not able to hit the three.
- 1:02Speaker 2: They were getting put backs from Baduga there with a
- 1:04Speaker 2: tip in the three point nine seconds left, Dylan Darling
- 1:09Speaker 2: became the Darling of New York City, goes in and
- 1:12Speaker 2: gets it to fall. Had been zero for four up
- 1:15Speaker 2: until that point before getting it to go. And Saint
- 1:18Speaker 2: John's is going into their first Sweet sixteen since nineteen
- 1:22Speaker 2: ninety nine, their first ever win against the top four
- 1:25Speaker 2: seed all time. They've now won twenty one of their
- 1:28Speaker 2: last twenty two games. And Rick Pattino takes his fourth
- 1:32Speaker 2: program to the Sweet six team. Let's hear for Darling
- 1:36Speaker 2: and for Rick Battino. After the game, you see the
- 1:39Speaker 2: SATs Darren Peterson, there's no assists listed there, but Bryce
- 1:43Speaker 2: Hopkins the threes to the edge of four, the multiplicity,
- 1:47Speaker 2: and let's hear from Mad's players and coach.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Four seconds left, didn't have time for much, Pats and I.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Went to the rear.
- 2:00Speaker 1: What else?
- 2:01Speaker 3: What don't your coach say to you in that final
- 2:03Speaker 3: time out?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Yelling at me? He's even yelling.
- 2:06Speaker 4: At me per usual, because it's to do something. No,
- 2:13Speaker 4: it was ugly, but we got it.
- 2:15Speaker 5: Bells comes up to me and says, run power. I
- 2:17Speaker 5: walk away and said, wait a second. He hasn't scored
- 2:19Speaker 5: a bucket and he wants to run a play for himself,
- 2:24Speaker 5: and then I'm thinking, as I'm walking, I said, but
- 2:26Speaker 5: he's Bells And not only did he do it, he
- 2:30Speaker 5: went with his right hand. So I'm real proud of him,
- 2:34Speaker 5: because to want the ball when you haven't made it
- 2:37Speaker 5: a shot is unbelievable.
- 2:40Speaker 2: He's pretty famously been on the other side of endings.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Like that before.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Can you put to words what the contrast is like.
- 2:46Speaker 5: I've been on winning at the buzzer and losing at
- 2:49Speaker 5: the buzzer, and tonight you win some, you lose some,
- 2:53Speaker 5: and I'm hoping we can get Duke at the buzzer
- 2:56Speaker 5: next to make up for that Christian lateness shot that.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Yeah, would that feel like some vindication for you?
- 3:06Speaker 4: No, I'm not playing. We're not gonna be a Johnny's fan. No,
- 3:10Speaker 4: I'm a Grick Patino fan. But you know we can't
- 3:13Speaker 4: make up for that.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Look at those four teams that we're getting in DC,
- 3:16Speaker 2: Duke Saint John's Michigan State U com pretty darn special,
- 3:20Speaker 2: built better moment presented by body Armor. It's going to
- 3:23Speaker 2: be that play. Jalen Rose, take me through the play
- 3:26Speaker 2: that Bell's called for himself. By the way, if you
- 3:28Speaker 2: want to know why He's called Bell's google it.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yes, he just did a straight line drive with his
- 3:33Speaker 1: opposite hand his right hand. He didn't get any resistance
- 3:36Speaker 1: from the defense. The big who came down didn't contest
- 3:39Speaker 1: he was behind him. I thought he was gonna jump
- 3:41Speaker 1: and block it out of bounds. He just didn't jump.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And so I want to give him credit definitely for
- 3:46Speaker 1: taking it and finishing it at that moment of the game,
- 3:49Speaker 1: especially after they got filed a couple of times. But
- 3:51Speaker 1: I wanted to give you guys a comparison.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Okay, Bell's went forty seven feet in three point nine seconds,
- 3:58Speaker 3: tyas Atney went eighty five feet a four point eight seconds,
- 4:04Speaker 3: So that means Kansas really wasn't playing defense. And he
- 4:08Speaker 3: drove right hoot to Kansas players who had their back
- 4:12Speaker 3: to the basketball. They're both guards, and I was thinking
- 4:15Speaker 3: one of them would have been great if they were
- 4:17Speaker 3: actually guarding him. Number one, and so so many reasons
- 4:21Speaker 3: why it was baffling to watch how Kansas lost the game.
- 4:24Speaker 3: But I want to give all credit to Saint John's,
- 4:26Speaker 3: all credit to the kid for making the shot. But man,
- 4:29Speaker 3: if you Kansas, you're gonna be kicking yourself about the
- 4:31Speaker 3: miss lambs and dunks and all of the miscues.
- 4:33Speaker 6: I don't know whether coach Patino had a time out
- 4:35Speaker 6: or not. He didn't need one. He had to play.
- 4:37Speaker 6: He had got the ball anyways, point guard's hands. And
- 4:39Speaker 6: if we could see that again and just look at
- 4:41Speaker 6: the fact that all Darling saw was wood. He didn't
- 4:45Speaker 6: see any white jerseys. So in others, if we could.
- 4:47Speaker 7: Just stop it, like right about there, there's just nobody
- 4:50Speaker 7: away from their man toward the ball, run it a
- 4:53Speaker 7: little bit further. There's nobody there except that lane coming
- 4:57Speaker 7: down the right hand side. Coach Patino, it was designed
- 5:00Speaker 7: for him to go to his weekend, but he is
- 5:02Speaker 7: a left handed player, and he went right and he
- 5:05Speaker 7: finished that, and that SHOT's gonna go down in Saint
- 5:09Speaker 7: John's basketball history. You don't go to a Sweet sixteen
- 5:12Speaker 7: since night, but.
- 5:13Speaker 2: At ninety nine, yeah, so twenty seven years, you know,
- 5:16Speaker 2: and again, you know, the thing I love about is
- 5:18Speaker 2: at the end of the game, just give the ball
- 5:19Speaker 2: to your point guard, flat it out, get a little
- 5:21Speaker 2: moment on the side, and go make a play.
- 5:23Speaker 4: There was no communication on Peterson and Council on that
- 5:26Speaker 4: strong side. They could at least usually have taught to
- 5:28Speaker 4: stunt and get back at least make him make a
- 5:31Speaker 4: decision to hesitate. But he saw clear lane and took
- 5:35Speaker 4: the lane all the way through and the made the
- 5:37Speaker 4: basket with his right hand, and he's a left handed player.
- 5:40Speaker 4: So it just seemed like Kansas this whole season dealing
- 5:43Speaker 4: with Darren Peterson situation was a little disjointed. Saint John's,
- 5:49Speaker 4: you know, they shot a lot of threes. That's usually
- 5:51Speaker 4: not their game. They're usually a free throw and the
- 5:53Speaker 4: offensive rebounding team. Happy for coach Patino, he's really coast
- 5:57Speaker 4: this team up throughout the course of the season and
- 5:59Speaker 4: developed them and they play hard. And also the bigs
- 6:03Speaker 4: they can switch one to five with the cards, and
- 6:05Speaker 4: that's that's really difficult to run offense against.
