- 0:00SPEAKER_01: It's uh let's stick together, episode eight.
- 0:20SPEAKER_01: We have a a special episode, I guess, just for me, me and Yup.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: I guess it's gonna sound the same back home, but we are sat next to each other for the first time in probably over four years since we did that podcast in England.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: But this time I'm in Eindhoven.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: I've had a had a lovely time coming back to Eindhoven for the first time.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: Uh was welcomed with open arms by Yupe at the airport and had a wonderful dinner at his parents' house last night.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: So we're feeling good.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: You how are you doing today?
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Looking forward to it.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It's been it's been it's been quite a while.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, it's good.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Like a really professional setup.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: I fixed everything, studio, uh, made sure technically everything is working.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: So uh like the professional I am, so uh happy, uh happy to go to get it going.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: We did have big plans for Jack Stanley, with the you know, the the creative content director that he is to set up on HD cameras.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: It all went a bit wrong.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: So me and you pre in Yupe's kitchen uh with a nice coffee, um and and yeah, enjoy enjoying ourselves.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: We've got plenty to talk about.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Um, there's a lot a lot been happening in the hockey world.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Um, first of all, I guess like we haven't done this in a while, but like how how is the Arany Rhodes stuff gone?
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: Because you're two games into the second half of the year.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's gone well.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: We won um twice, twice with five two.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, five two twice.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: No, it's sort of gone well, like we missed uh we had the first two games, we missed uh uh Stru and Walker.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: Um, but he's back now.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Uh and we survive.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Uh like not that he's so important to us, but he he he can do one thing very well and that's scoring goals.
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: So uh uh survived letter now.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Uh I feel like it was a bit of a now.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I can say it in hindsight, but it was a bit like a warm-up for the games that are about to come.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Uh uh we have Amsterdam.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: Uh um to be honest, I have no clue who we play after, but we have Amsterdam now, which is like uh I think the team um we kind of feel we have some unfinished business with uh we drew them 4-4 when we were up 3-0 and 4-2.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Um so really uh looking forward to that one.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Playing away for the first time in the second half season, uh two draws at home.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: So uh yeah, going well.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Uh still uh uh don't want to knock him on wood, but it might actually seem like we're gonna make playoffs this year.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: So um well, how many points are you above fifth place?
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Uh 10.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: But still it feels like it's gonna happen.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: It it it should happen.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: If we don't make it now, I'll tell it on the podcast now.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: If we don't make playoffs now, I might just quit hockey after all.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: Just golf.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Golf, just golf, golf, battle, and there's been a lot.
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, before we get to touch on, you know, we can touch on Stuan Walken because he's been playing for Scotland in the qualifiers, which is obviously we're gonna do some roundups of.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, first of all, uh, we are brought to you by Y-1.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're here for a Y1 shoot tomorrow where you know we've got the the big time EU players coming down to uh to do some shooting for us with the new range, which is pretty real.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Well, having seen it, it's really exciting.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: So uh kind of watch this space is coming in the next few months.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: I can't give anything away because I've been told I can't.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: But um obviously Yupe actually has his has his new stick coming out.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: I think we can talk about that, can't we?
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: The new stick coming out.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: Well, you've got the remade Yupe de Mole, but just maybe minus the blood.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know if there's blood in it this time.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Chases up the bluff for something else, another liquid.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's in your contact.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Brennan's not even here.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: But um, you've been you're obviously the number one fan of Strand Walker, so you've been you've been tuning into the qualifiers.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've been.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: I it's pretty sad that I watched um um more of the qualifiers than I did of the uh the World Cup I missed in 2023, EH, like every EHL of the last years.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Uh like haven't watched, like, don't ever really really watch it.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: And now I tune in for the World Cup qualifiers.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, to be honest, I watched only the Scotland games because uh yeah, I'm a big Scotland fan.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Um it was such uh it's the most fun tournament I think I've ever seen.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Which is kind of what we predicted.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was so fucking awesome, but especially the Chile side, like I think the England uh where in Egypt side uh let's be honest, there's more important things going on in that region right now than the World Cup qualifier.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Uh so let's not uh but the the for the people who didn't watch, like Scotland won against France, like completely against the odds.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Uh and I was thinking, holy shit, Scotland uh might actually uh qualify.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: They drew against Chile 2-2, and you still I still thought uh this is not a bad result.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: They just all they had to do was not fuck up against Wales.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: That's like all they had to do.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: I mean fucked up against Wales, lost 5-0.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Uh I think Struan's still not really over it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Um, but uh we're here with open arms to help him uh gain his confidence back.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: But it was it was uh there was the games were amazing, it was back and forth, up and down.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: Um big fan of World Cup qualifiers now.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: In typical Jub de Mol Dutch fashion.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: I actually was on the plano with Struan yesterday, and just within two minutes of seeing him, Yupes asked him, How did you fuck up that game?
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: So, I mean, for anyone who didn't watch it, Wales were playing Scotland in the final pool game.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Um, top three of the eight teams in that tournament went through.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: So, you know, you make the semi-final, she got a really good shot.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Uh Scotland just had to not lose by three goals.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Um, and unfortunately, they didn't they didn't lose, they lost by five goals.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Um so unfortunately it was like it was pretty heartbreaking to watch because obviously, like it's an opportunity for a Scottish nation to play in a major tournament for the first time in I don't know how long.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: Um unfortunately they they didn't get over the line.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Wales beat them 5-0, and Wales went on to qualify.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: I guess we can actually talk about that.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: France, Ireland, and Wales, Wales beat Poland in the third fourth to uh qualify for the for the World Cup.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: And then on the other men's side, um, England very convincingly um won every game.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then who went through with them was Japan and Pakistan.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: Um Malaysia qualified.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: As the as the highest ranked sports.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: So that means that the the um the World Cup is officially like got its 16 teams, and uh, I think we'll do a future podcast because the draw is next week.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: Did you know that, Yu?
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: I got told uh by obviously our resident badger David Ames about the the because it's a completely new World Cup setup this time, which I'm not gonna try and uh articulate to you right now, but it's completely different to any other World Cup in how the format's working, as it's over like two two different locations and a bunch of different games.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: But I've got to say one of the things that I would notice about the qualifiers and what it stuck out to me is like because of the pro league and because there's you know eight very good teams in the pro league, the gap seemingly has got even bigger between the top eight teams and then the the rest of the world.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: So you saw the rest of the world the you know, basically the ninth to the 20th ranking teams, they effectively anyone can beat anyone in that, but you watch because we're playing each other in the pro league every single year and getting better and better.
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's a good thing for hockey.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: What's your take on that?
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Um well I was like, I think because France was not in the pro league this year, uh I think they're like the the the the felt like they were really knocking on the on the door and like uh it that it wasn't really a coincidence that they made the semi-final in the um at the Euro.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: Uh I I I rated them much higher than they showed out in the World Cup qualifier.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: I also feel like they had they felt some pressure going into that tournament.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Um that they that they really felt that they had they had they could only lose, and that's how they played a little bit, I think, because they they have quality on the field.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: Um I think I also rated Ireland pretty pretty highly.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Uh uh and they won it, I think, uh on the side of um uh Yemen and Chile.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: They beat France in the final.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they beat France in the final to one, which kind of surprised me.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: But yeah, the gap between the rest and the pro league teams is like uh is pretty uh pretty big.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: I think uh uh you can already see it with Pakistan, who's like the number nine in the pro league and hasn't gotten a single point yet.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Um there's just a big gap.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I don't think the pro league will make it easier.
- 9:19SPEAKER_00: I also don't really know how many games other teams actually play, to be honest.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Like what what like uh we let's say uh the Dutch national team, the English national team, whatever they play like 25 caps a year, maybe 20 to 25, something like that.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: Um, and I don't know how many caps like a Scottish player, and an Irish player, uh a Chile, a Chile player plays in a year.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: And it actually just makes it so much harder for them to like compete against us because they wouldn't play against us very often.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: You know, this was a a rare event where you know the Egypt, Japan, Malaysia get to play against the top eight nations in England and understand what the the intensity is, what the quality is like.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Um and you know that that just it's there's just they they play a nations cup every year, I think, to qualify for the pro league to get uh promoted to the pro league.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: But you you raise a great point there isn't many opportunities for them to play good quality capped games.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: But I also think there's not it's always been like that.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Like you always had a champions trophy in the summer, uh, and that that was the top six teams, so then even uh other teams uh would also fall out.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: And with the World League, I think uh with the hockey world league, it was also a top 12 that kind of played against each other.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: So I think it's always been the problem with hockey, but I just it's it's it's a money problem to be honest, because I don't think the the countries like if already uh a hockey country like New Zealand can't afford to be in the pro league, then yeah, I can't imagine Egypt, uh Malaysia, and uh Chile being able to play in a pro league.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: I need to come back to this, but like we're gonna keep we're gonna touch on the pro league, but I do have an idea for the pro league that if you were to separate it because nine teams are stupid, isn't it?
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Like nine teams is ridiculous.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: Why nine teams?
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: I'm not I'm not completely sure.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: But if you had ten teams or even eight teams, you could have two uh like almost like a pool format that goes then into the June stage where it goes into like maybe three-leg quarterfinals, three-leg semifinals, and you actually have like a pinnacle of the tournament where it actually means something and the tournament doesn't end.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't know if I've already said this on the podcast.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Me neither, I never listened.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's fair enough.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: What do you think of that as is it as like a general idea?
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: It started out like that.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: You had a final four back in the like first year of the Pro League or second year of the project.
- 11:42SPEAKER_00: There was like a final four, and you played like all year to make it to into it's like the hope class now.
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: You make you play all year to make it into the top four, and then uh in the end you play playoffs, but it was just one game.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: I don't know how that works now, to be honest.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: Uh um how that would work in your uh setup, but I think with ten teams and already playing in quarterfinals, then you play for for for nothing, because then the top eight teams go into quarterfinals out of ten.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: True, true.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: I'd have to I'd have to come back and do my research and actually picture a very good idea to you.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but but this one was bit pretty shitty.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:20SPEAKER_00: If you have ten teams and you go into quarterfinals, then like not you just have to win three games and then you're yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: Maybe it needs some work, but I'll go away and and workshop it and uh get back to you.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: And not get back to yeah, okay.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: Um I don't know if you did see on our social media is that randomly I turned into a like a badger recently where I put the uh screenshot of the lineups in the qualifiers though, yeah out.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's good.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Lovely basic, lovely backlighting.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Wart Sorosby, yeah.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Who is the defender now?
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: I heard.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, someone told me he's a defender now.
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: Played as attacking midfielder in uh in Egypt, but yeah.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I I just couldn't believe still that you you know you're you're putting it out there to the public to watch, and you can't even put a line up properly.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: One person was uh so Soresby was in the back line, having never you know not played in the back line, and then you had Crofty and Wardie as the centre backs, and then uh Soresby was kind of blacked out a little bit.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Um Aubrey pointed out to me that maybe he's his character isn't unlocked yet, but it just it just pointed out again like how could you not just very simply look at the lineups and get it something close to right, and then you know, also just not have someone half shaded out, or just the position we're in where we're just probably saying the same thing about hockey again.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe not organise it in Egypt, like 200 kilometers away from the Gaza Strip.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Maybe that's a start.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: I think the FIH are desperate to try and like move hockey around the world, but it has to be in places where there's actual interest because even when the Egypt team were playing, there was no interest at all.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: No, you you like be a bit smart about where you market it, like to be honest, like and that's not not uh nothing to towards Egypt, but there was no one in the stance there.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: I like I actually kind of kind of like the a bit more the chili setup.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: I feel like but the chili reminds me a bit of the like the the Ireland women that they had like they had like a small peak, they're not as big as the Ireland women that had when they when they came in in the World Cup final, but like they kind of spiked a bit and it was like Canada, Canada men also had it that you thought, oh Canada's actually starting to become pretty good, and I think Chile is a bit on the same thing and it's getting more popular, so the FH wants to stimulate it, but I'm not sure whether this is something um durable, is that the correct word?
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: Something sustainable.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I yeah, I do like that you know it would be better for us, I'm sure, that if you did if you could go around the world and go to different places and play in cool places, yeah, but that has to be the like a actual like viable option for that to happen.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: Like you can't just say, like, we're gonna do in Egypt because we've never done in Egypt before, but then just hope for the best that there's like yeah, not a war going on, no uh a pitch that is of of a half decent quality.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: What's the pitch?
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: Apparently the pitch was terrible.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Okay, lovely.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Um, and and no one to come and watch would be, you know, like I I mean if I was doing the I don't know, the research on it about where to go, I would be one of my first questions would be, How's the pitch?
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Okay, would will people come and watch?
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: Do you reckon they were just like, Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely, definitely big interest in in Egypt.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Um also uh so we we did have some some good people from our like kind of we put out to Instagram, we had questions back.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: Uh I had a couple of good ones that I thought I would talk about.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Um Lawrence Smith, he was he was talking about why he got dick of the day.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Um, so Lawrence Smith wrote into us a special one, he didn't even comment on the post, said, I once got dick of the day because the train I caught on an away game stopped five metres short of the station because a trespasser on the track decided to shit in his hands and throw it at the train.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: By the time he'd been arrested and I made it to the pitch, there were five minutes, five minutes of the game left, and I ran off my cameo where I was informed by my captain that I was wearing the wrong odd trainers.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: Is that that's a pretty good dick of the day nomination?
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: Throwing shit at the trainers is that's on my bucket list.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he also added that he's seen five separate instances of dick of the day being given for an aerial being thrown over the defender's own baseline from a 16.
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: So to hook it perfectly behind yourself.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: I think that's a skill.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: Have you ever done that?
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: No, serious?
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: No, seriously seriously that Aaron like I'm I'm I thought you rate me a bit higher than that.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I don't think have you ever seen it?
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: No, but I think if I I I couldn't if I tried, to be honest.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've actually I feel like I've seen it go out for like a deep sideline.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: I I did have it when I when I wanted to throw like to the right, like if you're on the left side of the pitch, you want to throw to the right side of the pitch, and then it you hook it up and you it goes on your left side.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: I've had that, but not that I that is like 180 degrees backwards.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: That's that's a skill.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: I would love to see the um the video of that where you're just like, how on earth can you get like your hands around the ball so much that the ball goes all away?
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: It's pretty it's pretty good.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: It's impressive.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: But Lawrence Smith, thank you very much.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: If you you know have any good, really good dick of the day stories.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: I feel like definitely send them in because that paints a great picture.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: I don't really understand how you can be dick of the day.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: Like, is the guy who's throwing shit at a train not the dick of the day?
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Like, okay, you're you're just uh you're just a victim of someone throwing shit at a at a train.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: Just an innocent bystander.
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're an innocent bystander being called the shit.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: And um another standout was PK1957, just finished listening to episode seven.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Couple of things uh in Valencia that weren't touched on.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: On the game for Friday, the first game against Netherlands, it England only had one goalkeeper in the squad.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: And the the word amongst the England supporters in the stand was that Oli Payne had gone down with food poisoning thanks to a piece of undercooked chicken.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Um, who's the guilty chef?
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Is there any truth in this?
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Um, I can confirm that uh we were in apartments and Ben Fox was the guilty chef.
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, and he did poison his own teammate for for that first pro league game.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: So there is some there is some truth in that.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: Um he also uh this person also added, on the question of Henry Croft, I don't think Gep was telling us the full story.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: My guess is a number of guys in the Dutch squad were straight on the phone to their club coaches to request to sign him up for the 26-27 season.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Um I feel like I will let you say, but I'm guessing that none of the Dutch players were on the phone to their club coach trying to sign Henry Croft.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: No, I think I think also I think that's like getting getting do we really want to go there with the whole class to get to get to get crossed in like he's growing on me, like already he's growing on me.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: Like if you're you he's if you're such a shit stirrer and uh uh uh a shithouser, like I can appreciate that.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: It's just is that really the direction we want to go with the whole class?
- 19:44SPEAKER_01: You want to get that was that was actually their next point was to imagine the carnage he'd wreak in the Hoofklaser, which which actually does paint a funny picture.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, to be honest, I and I'm I'm more and more becoming a fan of Croft, don't tell him, but like there's no one who appreciates an idiot more than I than I do.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: Like I like Brandon, you know what I mean?
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: So I appreciate the good idiot.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Uh well, I don't know.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: I think he he had uh uh he scored a he scored two good goals against us.
- 20:16SPEAKER_00: Which that's also all he did.
- 20:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're probably quite croft-heavy in this podcast at the moment, aren't we?
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: We need to maybe move away, yeah.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just move away from cross, but also who the fuck is PK?
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: Like he's 1957, the guy's six seventy years old.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Like, what what the fuck are you talking about?
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're just calling out our listeners now.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Fuck you, PK.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Um, also, I guess we should talk touch on Brendan because Brendan was with the USA team.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: Um booted, and they decided obviously because of the war, they they got a notification after two games of being in Egypt that they should evacuate any of these countries and Egypt were were were part of that.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: So um they they upped and left.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Um they'd already lost their two games, which was somewhat unsurprising of them being the lowest ranked team, but I can't imagine that he was uh a professional in Yuke's kitchen has gone wrong.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: Sorry, sorry.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I can't imagine that that was um that was too too happy for him.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: He wasn't that happy on the phone when I called him.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: But uh yeah, I I do feel for the US, but they will definitely be in a major tournament soon, which we know about.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: So no, I'm not sure if they'll definitely be in a major tournament.
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: But they qualify for the LA Olympics.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: They they haven't qualified.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: They're the host nation.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: They had to be in the top twenty five rankings or something at a certain point, and they they made it.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: As number No, congrats to them.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Well done.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Probably Yeah, I mean we've kind of already touched on that.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: But the um to move on.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: to the uh to the pro league we're at the halfway stage which uh finished uh a couple of weeks ago i've got quite a lot of uh kind of kind of points to touch on but i wanted to get your takes before we got started on like how were your first eight games in the in the pro league and how did you uh how did you find it have you got any like standout performers in your within your team or um not within my team to be honest I feel like we're the one of the teams uh whose I wouldn't say struggling but because we have we've had such uh pro league success the last couple years uh and that that is now we feel like we're not flowing as much as we as we've been flowing in the last couple years uh taking 15 points out of eight games is not like the the the the bar we usually uh want to set um and yeah there's not been really a like a standout performer for us I think we we've just been collectively not on our a game yet which is not which is to be honest not a bad thing because uh I'd rather uh be on my a game this summer uh I feel like Belgium is doing uh incredibly well uh I think they only drew one game and won the rest of them uh playing against teams like Argentina uh Germany England it's quite impressive um Australia also seems to to to find their groove uh after being a bit absent the last couple years uh getting back into it uh with uh I think the biggest standout performer right now in international hockey is Tom Craig yeah I mean to touch on touch on that is that I mean the current standings in the men's side is Belgium like you said if won seven drew one um out of eight games they're on 22 Australia on 21 and then Argentina 17 and us and you are on 15 points each um you you touched on something there which is Tom Craig is just seemingly on another planet at the moment I don't know whether it's the the the fact that he's just such a raw like unbelievably quick and exciting player but it seems like everything's kind of coming together for him.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah for sure I do have to put you have to put things a bit into perspective that I think in their schedule they've played Pakistan India um Spain Spain and Germany um which are the bottom four teams yeah um I think Germany is they always seem to just not give a shit in pro league to be honest they've never been top three or anywhere close uh but have been top three in almost every tournament they play so I think they're I wouldn't say they're just throwing in the towel every time they just don't take it as serious as other countries do and really use it as a development uh platform.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Uh India has been struggling to say the least uh Pakistan as we said is just I I think is at this moment just not on the level yet having not played against uh uh uh teams like Australia like Belgium like whatever uh I feel like they're just uh slowly learning the ropes of international hockey again uh and maybe World Cup will be uh will be like a surprise uh uh team um so yeah so you also have to put it a bit into perspective like what Australia is doing uh having still having to play uh the top four with Argentina with Belgium with the Netherlands with uh England uh but they're doing incredibly well I was really impressed with uh Argentina to be honest um I feel like they slipped off a bit in India losing twice against Belgium but against us in the pro league and the games they've played I was quite impressed with them they won 8 0 against India and you don't in international hockey that that that doesn't happen too often so those were like the two the three most standout teams to me I feel like uh in Valencia England did quite well um but yeah yeah yeah yeah and Tom Craig yeah it's just like if if space opens up and if there's there's uh space to play hockey he's so fucking quick there's not a lot that can stop him so yeah he also scored I mean I don't know if you saw it he saw that insane goal against Spain where I think he wins the ball he plays a lovely one two over about 50 like he's running 50 yards with the ball he plays a lovely one two going into the goal and he literally chips the ball up going full pellet and then like open handed smacks it into the side netting it Spain uh which is just yeah I mean something that we just love watching I loved like you know you're obviously not wanting Australia to do well but you've got to appreciate good hockey at the same time um I think yeah it's it's a bit of a weird one I sp especially on the men's side I think with the women's side you can kind of guess where people are going to be I know that like Australia and Germany two historically good women's teams are gonna are normally good but they're sat at the bottom of the table.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: But like with the men with this top eight that we've already touched on in this episode like I I wouldn't have been surprised if you put any of them almost anywhere at the halfway stage because of the fact that everyone's you know Spain and India in particular are having a lull you know Spain Spain uh currently in seventh with five points India with four points it's it's it's weird to watch them and I don't really understand what's going on there's definitely something I don't understand the the Manpre stuff which has come out um I it's a difficult subject to talk about but he's come out and said that he he's taking a break um if I'm honest you look at the the stats it says he's on 411 caps um one one away from the record and the record holder is the president of India hockey um now I'm not saying anything here but very strange timing for a player who played insanely well at the hockey India League who's played very but read between them lines I'm not saying it but I'm saying why would someone of his quality be suddenly taking a break at this point maybe he does need it he's got two kids now and maybe he needs some family time but I hope hope to God to see him break that record in the summer because he's been an unbelievably uh class player for world class player for you know 15 years now let's leave it at that um Luke Walt did write in we're gonna keep listening to your questions he wrote in that why are all pro leagues played at the worst possible times it's like why are the timings of the game so poor oh and like we I mean a good example of this is like we played in Valencia and all of the games are at 11 o'clock in the morning um when the sun is normally like its worst point for both the play and the cameras yeah um and I would wonder why first of all they wouldn't they wouldn't take this type of stuff into consideration is it TV deals yeah for they they it's some things just don't surprise me anymore like this this is one of them that's like yeah you I kind of I've kind of come to the to a point where you just uh uh just take everything on the chin and just get on with it like you know what I mean like yeah we play at 11 okay fuck it we'll play at 11 just don't think about it like that anymore yeah I I don't know why it's why why they do it like that it was really shit with the sun playing at 11 because one half you were like uh constantly squinting squinting and you had no clue every area you were like oh let's I hope I tried this one um yeah so it's it's I I I don't know I've I I really I wish I had an answer but I really don't know I also I don't think they think about it to be honest I just think that that some intern decides it's at 11 and then anything oh fuck that sun might actually be oh that's really shit and then it it already all the damage has been done that's that's my guess.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: That is one of the disappointing things I think if we're trying to grow the game like we obviously are we sat here we sit here and do a podcast and talk talks like about hockey because I think we're both passionate about improving hockey and you just think like what are the simple fixes well like a blue pitch is really good at night time or when the sun's not out but in Santiago you could you you know like you couldn't see the ball in Valencia they put the cameras on the wrong side so you can't see the ball like you know if you're just an an okay hockey fan are you tuning in and staying watching like the game you can't really see and with commentators they got these South African commentators for our games and they didn't know anyone's names I would say also like probably just spend a bit more money on commentators who know what's going on like uh do we have South African commentators didn't know that yeah like I said the what the World Cup qualifier was amazing yeah I didn't watch my our own pro league games that much uh other than from the from like the video tower so yeah it it is going to be a good pro league as in I think it's one of the better uh standings it that there has been in a while and also like I wanted to touch on what you said about the women's pro league um is Australia at the women are they are they like good and I think that they kind of struggled to to qualify for uh for the World Cup like they they lost against Chile in the final and I'm not saying Chile is not that good but I am saying Chile is not that good probably women's hockey they're not in the pro league and they they they really struggled against them so it's it's is Australia still the like the the Australia you you're used to I don't think so no and we need Brendan here really don't we because he is the uh resident where he can give us the the the hot take on stuff but Germany as well I think both of them teams struggled last year in the pro league you know Australia lost to New Zealand who aren't in the pro league in the oceana which meaning why they had to qualify.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah um they it seems like they're in a is it fair to say a rebuilding phase or can you just is that just a a way to excuse them not being very good they probably are in a rebuilding phase it's just for me it's there there was like a there was a there was a moment like a stint in which you actually thought okay um the Dutch women are finally gonna be challenged a bit more and the more we continue now the less I feel that they're gonna going to be challenged at the World Cup.
- 32:25SPEAKER_00: I feel like there's not a team right now except for maybe Belgium but uh Belgium uh uh the coach head coach of Belgium just resigned uh um uh so they don't have a real first coach at the at the moment anymore so half a year before World Cup like is there a team that's really gonna challenge the Dutch women right now I don't think so and but there was a trend that Belgium started to come up China uh uh almost beat them in the Olympic final and I feel like there were being made steps towards the Dutch women and now they're being steps it's like one step forward three steps back.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: I guess maybe I'll ask Coach de Mol like if you were a other women's team what would you do to focus your well where would you focus your attention to specifically beat the Dutch women the first thing that pops into my mind that's about that there's a couple things I would do and it's gonna sound rash but it's I would be I would make sure that I'm by far the fittest team there.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: So I would focus maybe like and it's not that's not coming for me this weird but focus at least like three times a week on being really really fucking fit.
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: So everyone needs to run like outrun the Dutch girls by a mile.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: That should that should be priority number one.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: Number two I would just make sure that I have one girl I'm gonna look all in the country for one girl that could throw an aerial of more than like more than from baseline to the midway line I feel like in women's hockey if you have a good aerial like a far aerial it changes the game already so much and then put all my game around the one girl who has a really good aerial the one woman who has a really good aerial and to be honest there's it it's also a quality thing because I feel like that there's so much quality in the Dutch national team with Sanderwaat Vliesalvers Sanne Koole Tiens you can name like 17 players who are really good and I feel like it's almost the accomplishment of making the Dutch national team at the women's side is like an accomplishment by its own because they have so many quality players that it's also kind of tough but I would just try and do something really out of the box to beat them.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: If you're gonna beat if you're gonna play a low block that probably will kill you.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: If you're gonna play high press they will kill you you need some to do something different I feel like it's suggested make sure you outrun them or something.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah go a completely different route I do think that there's something in this with the with the they have like a rhythm to them which you have to like I think the Chinese women did it the best I've seen in years in that Olympic final where they disrupted the rhythm.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah they played on uh uh you know preyed on their mistakes and really like I I do think one of the things is like with that Dutch mentality is that if you can if you can really uh you know outphysical them which you already touched on with the running but I think there's an extra element to that with the with the actual like playing uh uh on the edge of nasty yeah um yeah I I would be I would be probably pushing that bar as far up to the line as possible um to try and stop their rhythm and and to put them off their rhythm as much as possible because I think that's a huge part of their game is just like when they're in their flow state when they start scoring them incredible goals and running hard at you you're in so much trouble you have to almost instantly get into them.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: But I mean we're sat here as as as two definitely not coaches.
- 35:51SPEAKER_00: No far from it.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Maybe we should have like a coach de mole corner or something as like a segment where I ask you a coaching question and you could attempt to answer it.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: It's gonna make for good content that's often I don't think we've comprehensively touched on the pro league at all there but like we've gone off on piston we will be back.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: We've done what we can about pro league.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Well actually to to to finish it off is that we sit here with eight games played on both sides of the of the women and the men and we sat here last year doing the same and it was just completely different uh you know the summer standings were completely different here so I think it is very exciting I think there's a number of teams on both sides of it that can can either get relegated or or win.
- 36:34SPEAKER_01: So so I would end it by saying like it is a good time to tune in in June um plenty of stuff to go on before that but we'll be back after the break who are Evo hockey you ask well if you are interested in developing your game as a young aspiring player I think it's worth checking them out.

- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Well they have an emerging talent program where it's a world class 10 month performance development program for youth players from 11 to 17 years old both outfielders and goalies you work directly with their co-founders Chris Bowen or Omar Shibley as well as other top coaches.

mental skills training such as stress and anxiety performance under pressure essential skills for both hockey and life what else do Evo hockey offer well there are camps in school holidays from any it's a great place to go and start your your hockey journey to be a better player today and we're back um before we get on to uh a little social media con uh conversation I was just gonna ask you about there's been some recent transfer news uh on the Hoof class side I don't know if there's been any women but the two uh ones I've seen in the last couple of weeks first of all uh Duco I'm not gonna try and do the last name tongue tonguel camp um comes uh moves from Campong to Amsterdam which is like from my side would be huge news if I was in Holland for like such a big name to move from big club to big club um first of all like how's that received like how is that in in Holland um it was kind of out there already so it wasn't like a surprise surprise everyone kind of felt it coming uh he's also been not like the most uh he was quite out there with saying like I'm either going to Amsterdam or staying at Kant Pong it's one of the two so it was not a big surprise to be honest source became completely out of nowhere for me um and to be honest I also don't really get the transfer if I'm honest like uh so he's he's just moved sorry England international GD guy Tom Sorsby's moved from Den Bos to Amsterdam as well yeah yeah again if uh Amsterdam are looking quite scary to be honest uh if you have a front three with uh Burkhardt uh Diane Kasim and uh uh Duco uh Telco Kamp um shit load of goals up front so uh yeah uh that's quite scary to be honest uh um but yeah the the so I completely get the why they get him and if you can get Duco Telco Kamp I think there's another team in the world that wouldn't want him um incredible striker uh but it wasn't like the big big surprise everyone kind of felt it comes to be honest if you're in Holland uh but it it doesn't happen too often that a player moves from one top team to another top team uh kompon's been uh uh uh amongst it for the last six six years maybe uh six seven years always made playoffs uh been in the final a couple of times one won it last year uh year before last year I think or last yeah year before last year we're in the final last year so it's quite a surprising move that you move from one top team to another because it doesn't happen too often um yeah this as again like I said the Source V transfer like if you're if you're a team and you can get sourceby I understand you want to get him um but I don't really see how he fits in that team to be honest as in he's a he's an he's an attacking midfielder he's a guy who who's like the connection between defense and um uh strikers and they already have a lot of those players like I think like David Hussey's who's up and coming uh with national team who's played really well and was a big part of the championship run last year Torres Middle might be one of the best players out there right now uh Mustafa Kasim uh uh if he wasn't born in South Africa uh uh he would be international uh internationally more even more uh uh renowned if that's the correct word uh but he's just not playing the top games and on an international level but he's making a difference for South Africa already so you already have three top quality international midfielders um uh Amsterdam put out on their Instagram that they're getting Tom Soresby midfielder slash defender I rate Tom Soresby pretty highly I think he's a really good player really quick but he's not a defender like let's be honest he's not a defender that's like saying you mole is like uh defender slash right forward I can play right forward but no one wants to see it like let's be honest maybe he'll surprise me and be like an amazing left back and we've like all these years you think oh well we missed something but yeah that that that's what surprises me a bit but yeah uh good for him I hope uh he enjoys Amsterdam it's pretty well brooked but to to break down a little I guess a little bit of what you've just said can you Camp is certain currently sat in eighth in the Hoof klasse yeah could you give me like a they've got if you write their team on paper it's it's a bit mad like uh they have internationals coming out of their ears like could you give me like a reason that they would be sat down there having had you know six seven years of like constantly being near the top so I think a couple things went on at Kampong and I'm I'm not in Kampong so I don't really know but look as an as an as an insider in the Hofklas but outsider from Kampong what what I think happened there a little bit they lost and it's not big players but they've lost a couple of like the uh the silent soldiers in their team so uh and I'm gonna I can name them but probably don't not a lot of people would know them but it's like uh yelle Pfeiffer Boot Pfeiffer uh Maray is his name uh uh uh couple uh really like solid club players couple a couple really solid club players who just know exactly what they what what they have to do who who make it tough who can defend well who just pass the ball to the players who who who need to be on the ball so they can and they make sure that uh uh uh Jonas gets the ball they make sure uh uh uh Dagfielder gets the ball duco gets the ball tears gets the ball uh and they kind of lost those players so they kind of have to they're kind of in a rebuild they're actually in a rebuild phase I feel um goalies changed and I think that's a pretty big part of what's happening with their team right now they they went from David Hart to Calzado which I think on paper was a really good switch uh Hart uh uh uh quitting one of the best goalies maybe the best goalie there is uh to calzado who is 24 young guy had a really good Olympics but is now struggling a little bit and you can see You can just see his confidence dropping a bit, and you especially with a goalie, it just it shows.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: Uh uh, I still think he's a really good goalie.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, he's just going through a bit of a rough patch.
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: And yeah, if you if you're a goalie and you make two or three mistakes, it's two or three goals against, and they've always kind of counted on being the really defensive solid team and missing out on Yip for like half of the season already.
- 44:24SPEAKER_00: I think they also relied heavily on his corner, also.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: Yep scored 30 goals a season.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: If you take away 30 goals in the season, it does something to you as a team.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: So if you add all those things up, they still have Laks Balk, they still have Ib Jansen, they still have Terrence Peters, they still have Jonas de Goes, they still have David Duco.
- 44:40SPEAKER_00: But on all besides all those top players, though you also need players who can like do the dirty work and shit.
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: And I feel like that's where they kind of have to reinvent themselves.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: It's pretty comprehensive.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, sometimes I surprise myself with how smart I can come across.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: And um yeah, I mean, we we're gonna we can watch this space because next season we're gonna see if that that this Amsterdam team that just seems like the Man City or the or the you know the the people that are coming in and just getting anyone and everyone, is it gonna work?
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's hard to um you know it's easy on paper to write down a great team, but it's hard to bring them all together and make them gel.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: And I'm very intrigued to see whether that goes very well like it did last year for them, or it, or you know, it it it proves difficult.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: I couldn't call it if I'm honest.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't be able to like I can sit on the fence very happily right now because we just don't know.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: My prediction would be that it they're a very, very strong team, and if they like each other at all, it's gonna go well.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: They are you know almost write them in in hard pencil in for the playoffs next year, but we don't know.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're just the Amsterdam right now already has a team that that's that has a surplus of quality with uh uh um with with players.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: And I think what sets them apart is they they have five players who can change the game with a single action.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: I think next year they're getting like two or three players extra who can do that.
- 46:02SPEAKER_00: So they have like nine players, ten players on the field who at any time of the game can change the game.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: Um and it to be honest, I think that surplus of quality will it's it for it will be tough for them not to work because they have so many players who who who are who are good.
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: The only thing I'm it's a bit I guess like a bit LA Lakers kind of vibe, a bit like they also have to gel as a team and also have to have people who have to do who have to do the dirty work.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: And I'm curious, I'm not saying they won't, but I'm curious how that will look if if guys have to there's only one hockey ball on the pitch.
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: And if you have to share the ball, and if you have to pass the ball, and if you have to like there's there's also gotta be guys who are willing to do like the the shit no one else wants to do.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: So that's what I'm curious at if people are willing to take a step back for the good of the team.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: That's what I think what's gonna be their main that's the talking point, that's the question.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and we will watch this space.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: I wanted to um this is a an interesting topic, but I I feel like it needs to be talked to.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: Um, and it is the growth of social media influencers in hockey.
- 47:10SPEAKER_01: Um, Yup's already got a smirk on his face because this is gonna be fun in some way and uh maybe difficult in others.
- 47:17SPEAKER_01: Um first of all, I will come out and say that the first thing is that I believe that every single person who is trying to grow the game of hockey is doing something right.
- 47:27SPEAKER_01: You know, they're putting themselves out there on social media to get more young kids, young people, old people, doesn't matter, uh interested in hockey and doing different stuff.
- 47:38SPEAKER_01: Um it's a brand new, it feels like a brand new space because this hasn't really happened before.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: Because we actually have a mix now of like top players, of like uh, you know, like club players and of of completely random and like just just regular people who play on the weekend coming out and putting content out there.
- 47:58SPEAKER_01: Um can I get your like your take on it to start with?
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: Like there's obviously a huge range of this.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: There's there's there's people who want to educate you, there's people who just want to show you cool stuff, there's there's the funny guys who are doing doing great content where they're kind of moving into this space where there's like skits about uh you know like coming off the bench, uh, and and when you see that one umpire that you don't like.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: And it's it's some of it's good stuff.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: What's your favorite, what's your favorite type of social media influencer?
- 48:31SPEAKER_02: Tough question.
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: That's a tough question.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: Um to be honest, I don't I don't have a favorite.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: Uh uh, I don't uh I and that's not a that's not a dig on it, but uh Teres Peters, who's who's big on on uh uh influencing right now, uh who's doing quite well, I think, on social media.
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: He he also he said to me once, and I completely agree, he said, Yeah, you don't really get TikTok.
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: Uh and then I said, I said, Yeah, I completely agree, I don't get it.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Like sometimes some there's some videos they make, they do really well on social media, but I don't get them.
- 49:05SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's an age thing, but he's the same age as Missy.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: Maybe it's just uh interesting.
- 49:10SPEAKER_00: Um, I what what I do like with what I what I think is fun videos, but I don't know if they work the best, is like the the day, uh the day in the life kind of stuff.
- 49:19SPEAKER_00: So when uh like uh I think uh Thijs van Dam does it, Terrence does it, Yip, Jansen does it, and when they take you on like uh a day of an of a hockey player, and that people get to see what goes on in a hotel at national team uh uh during a game day of uh Camp or Rotterdam uh or any road.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: That's that shit I actually like to see.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: That I think is like uh good content.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: I would never have guessed that, hey.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, I honestly like for me it's not necessary to film yourself while you're in the shower because it's just an excuse to show if you have you have chest, and maybe that's just me being jealous because I don't have a chest, mine grows inwards instead of outwards.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: Fine.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: Uh uh I have other other qualities, but uh that that part you can skip, like just you don't have to film when you're in bed or you're out of the shower, but fine.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: That's probably why why they get a lot of views.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: But the the showing the whole day what you eat is it, that's actually pretty like if I was not playing hockey on the international, that's what I would like to see.
- 50:15SPEAKER_00: The dancing and shit I don't get.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: Like if you have to do dances or like stupid trends or whatever, that's the part I don't get.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: Wait, just just to go back onto the day in the life.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in Holland, it seems like from the outside, that skincare is a huge part of uh uh yeah.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: I don't think skincare is a bit is a huge part, to be honest.
- 50:33SPEAKER_00: Like I have one, like I have the that uh three in one kind of thing I put on my face um occasionally every morning, and sometimes I say, Hey, there it is, and I'll do it again.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: So I don't think it's a big thing.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: I just think that there's uh rituals, for instance.
- 50:48SPEAKER_00: I think they're the one who they're the ones who really want their product pushed, so they give shit to the boys, and the boys think easy money, I'll just put it on my face.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: Who gives you shit?
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: Fair enough.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: That's my take on it.
- 50:59SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I mean it was actually more from a place of intrigue because in back home is the moisturizer and and skincare is not that big for for males, and I wouldn't say I spent any time uh doing any of that, but I thought maybe that shows it does.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: I have hope.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: Maybe you should.
- 51:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe I'll uh I'll get the discount.
- 51:20SPEAKER_00: People still think I'm 20 24.
- 51:23SPEAKER_00: For the lack of facial because my skin looks glowing.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: So yeah, so the next um oh, it couldn't be more perfect timing.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that is uh we've just got a message from uh from Brendan because I asked him to give his top three influences in hockey.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: But I guess actually, before we before we delve into the Brendan thing, um the next one you're going to if you don't get the skits, you don't you don't like the the the silly stuff?
- 51:49SPEAKER_00: Not that I don't get them, I don't like it's not that I don't like them, it I'm just uh impartial in it.
- 51:56SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: I'm the I'm I've I've I've yet to find a skit which I'm like genuinely laughing about.
- 52:03SPEAKER_00: Um I've also yet to like uh uh uh it also don't dislike I think for the kids and shit it's it's what makes them they like it a lot because they can but yeah my favorite is just the um what do you say the day in the life shit.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: I think that's that's pretty like if I wasn't a hockey player, I think, or if I wasn't like in a national team, I think it would be pretty cool to see what happens in the hotel and what happens uh oh, they play cards.
- 52:29SPEAKER_00: So that's I think the fun part for if you're not a hockey player.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: Uh and it and I also want to say because I I firmly agree with that, is uh I do like that they that they like you said, like that they grow the game, and I sometimes uh uh like I wouldn't do it, like I've as in I'm um I'm not an influencer kind of guy, I just uh just don't want to I make a tit out of myself like more than enough.
- 52:56SPEAKER_00: I also don't have to do it on social media, but um I like like if right now if you will come to a to a national team game of Holland 90% of the kids only want to see two people in our team that stayed as Peters and there's a Yip Yans because they're the ones who put themselves out there, so they're actually growing the game or gaining fans.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: And I don't think any kid for they probably if if I if I would wear like uh a coaching jersey, they probably wouldn't even recognise me.
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: And that I guess is is part of it, isn't it?
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: Like hockey needs, I think what other sports do so well is that hockey needs like big personalities and star personalities for people to base around and to become like a fan of.
- 53:32SPEAKER_01: Is that like I got into basketball because of Steph Curry, yeah, not because like I loved basketball, but because I loved the way he played and who he was.
- 53:40SPEAKER_01: So I guess we don't have many of them with big followings, or like I'm not sure like a day in the life is the is the way to do it, but we also have the same thing with uh Matt Ramshaw, who is like a huge uh social media presence in the UK, is that you know he's he's um in the GB squad, but but uh I would I think he wouldn't mind me saying he's you know hasn't been picked for a for a tournament, but you go to a Lee Valley, and a lot of the people who come and watch want to see him and want to meet him as opposed to a uh a Jack Waller or uh Jacob Draper, um, which is which is uh uh probably a conversation in itself, but he is growing the game, he is actually doing doing the right thing.
- 54:22SPEAKER_01: Um before we go into It does make me cringe a bit.
- 54:27SPEAKER_01: It's it's I think it's part of part of social media, isn't it?
- 54:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it probably is, but it it they all make me cringe by the way, but he also makes me cringe quite a lot.
- 54:37SPEAKER_01: I think it's completely fair.
- 54:39SPEAKER_01: We did ask Brendan, um, because Brendan kind of like has brought this in uh about like the social media, the social media segment, and Brendan likes to get on his high horse but not not getting too too involved.
- 54:52SPEAKER_01: He has, I asked him to to give uh give his top three worst, and I think he would disagree from his top three worst, reading them now.
- 55:00SPEAKER_01: He would disagree with uh he enjoys the day in the life, which he definitely doesn't because his top three and the worst ones are inject hockey, which are uh UK-based uh Wimbledon players, where they I actually think they do a pretty good job.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: I quite like what they do.
- 55:13SPEAKER_01: Um so they are the the type of um influencers where they will do like challenges or they will just be smashing a ball at the goal, or they did uh one how many club under 16 players does it take to stop a Premier League player?
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I think that's actually that's fun.
- 55:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I actually disagree with Brendan here because I actually think that what they're doing.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: It would only take one under 16 player to stop Brendan.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: That's probably why he would like that he hates it.
- 55:43SPEAKER_00: It's confronting.
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: But like I think that's actually my type of if I was to choose a type of social media influencer, I just like the stuff where you see people do cool stuff.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I yeah, then I'll change my thing.
- 55:56SPEAKER_01: Fuck the day in the light, that's what I want to see.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, I've never seen it.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah.
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: People who do who who actually do cool stuff and make it look cool, and then you like you're a kid back home and you're like, I want to go onto a pitch and I want to smash the button to the top corner.
- 56:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, but Yip Yip does it with this drag flipping.
- 56:14SPEAKER_01: Also true, and I actually really like that because I'm always like, I wish I could drag flip like that.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that would never happen.
- 56:19SPEAKER_01: No.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: Um the other thing is that uh the Maidenhead hockey club got in contact with me about our conversation about the under twelve how many under-twelves would it take to beat Phil, Brendan, and Yupe.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: And this is obviously never gonna happen, but he was like, if Yup ever comes over, we'll make that happen.
- 56:35SPEAKER_01: Okay, and he would get all of the under-twelves and we would basically play a game.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, fair.
- 56:40SPEAKER_01: I'm in and that to me would be good content.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hello.
- 56:44SPEAKER_01: Like, would you like to?
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure you can tell us, guys, like, would you like to see me and Yupe face 60, 12-year-olds and try and beat them?
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because I still believe that we would.
- 56:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, me too.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: There would I also think there would be one kid who's who gets a major injury.
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: Did you throw an aerial doesn't trap it, gets it on the head or something because it's with too many in the space, yeah.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: And like you're gonna run and you have to run on speed, you're gonna beat them, but you're gonna run like and you knee one in the in the in the face, and it's gonna end up ugly, but I'm all in.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna sign a waiver that I'm not responsible for any injuries.
- 57:17SPEAKER_01: Okay, sounds good.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: Well, we'll watch this space.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do that.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: I guess that that brings us on to the next point, which is actually the random people doing it.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: And I I also think there's an extra segment that we haven't touched on here.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: There is someone called Ramos the Slamo, so shout out to you, Ramos, if you listen, who is a um he he claims that he's like loves a sport that he's completely trash at.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: Um, so he says, and he's like a fifth team player for I think the city of York in the UK, yeah.
- 57:45SPEAKER_01: And he just films uh himself in team talks and stuff, and like on the way to a game, and he just talks through his game, and he's actually gaining a lot of traction because like he's almost like a parody.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: And I don't know if you are, and I'm really sorry if you're not, but it comes across like you're a parody and it's really funny.
- 58:05SPEAKER_00: Um I'm also big on that kind of shit.
- 58:07SPEAKER_00: I hate people who take themselves so seriously.
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I might start my my when I'm on my demise, and I we're getting there.
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: When I'm starting coming over the hill, it shouldn't be too long, guys.
- 58:19SPEAKER_00: Then I might start doing that kind of shit where I kind of cannot run anymore, but still think I can, and then just go down the ride inside, but everyone catches up with me and shit.
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: Like that's the content I want to see, yeah.
- 58:30SPEAKER_01: But then, yeah, you've got the other side of that where there's like two other content, guys, which I'll shout out to you, and like well done.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: There's King of Hockey, um, who does a lot of back garden stuff.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: He's got a goal in his back garden with an astro, and he does some cool stuff and he gets a lot of traction.
- 58:43SPEAKER_01: So, shout out to you and all in one hockey or all in hockey, who also is is in this space of trying to teach at the same time as as as maybe not being in a top-level player.
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: It's a bit like leap hockey or not.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: Uh leap hockey is like an actual camp.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: This guy, he's just a person who's like saying, Do you want to hit a better reverse?
- 59:03SPEAKER_01: Well, here you go, I'll teach you to it.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay, yeah.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: Which it's a difficult because then you're going into the coaching realm of like, are you a good enough coach to be putting this out there on on social media?
- 59:13SPEAKER_01: And I and I struggle with that bit.
- 59:15SPEAKER_01: Is that like, unless I felt very confident in myself to teach you a skill, which I believe I'm good at.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's the main thing.
- 59:21SPEAKER_01: Like, if he's shit, then why would you teach people exactly?
- 59:26SPEAKER_01: I think that's a dangerous face that that this gets into.
- 59:28SPEAKER_01: Is he shit?
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: I don't think he's he's I think a National League hockey player.
- 59:34SPEAKER_00: He's like a whole classer player, but in England, he's not a whole class play.
- 59:37SPEAKER_01: Lower, the one lower promote classer.
- 59:39SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 59:41SPEAKER_00: And he's shit.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: I think it's a dangerous game you get yourself into in unless you're a qualified coach and unless you're putting content out there that you know is 100% right.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: I think it's a dangerous thing to start putting out there.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: And that's probably the stuff I do struggle with a little bit.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, if he enjoys it.
- 59:57SPEAKER_00: And it's also up to people themselves whether they want to learn from someone who's like he's not putting out there like he's a national team player, right?
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_00: No, no, so it's fine.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: Like if he wants to do it, wants to do it, and then the other people who follow the tips are stupid, yeah, right?
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: It's your choice, yeah.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, it's your own choice.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: There's probably also content out there from other guys, and if you choose him because he makes fun content, hey, good for him, good for you, but like don't don't start blaming him when it's shit shit advice.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_01: And and that's probably where we get to is that is that I I appreciate anyone who puts out good hockey content, but I would much prefer to see the entertainment side and that you you rather than like leave the educating to the people who are the professional coaches and the educators, just like put out good content that people want to see.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_01: You could put out your day in the life, you can put out like cool challenges.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_01: Um, I I my personal opinion is draw the line in when people try and tell me how to do something that I don't believe they are qualified for.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, agreed.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_01: This has been kind of a fun conversation.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we haven't gone too, we haven't insulted too many people.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_00: It's not an insult, it's just spin cracks.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, wait, I have got one one.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_01: Um I'm sorry, uh teammate Fred Newbold, but like when you're teaching me to spray your stick and grip your stick, I'm completely against that.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_01: So Yip Jansen does it as well, like where he's like, Oh, spray your stick with me.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: Dennis Peter does as well.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_01: It's it's that that bit I can also draw blinds.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I agree I completely agree, but I think uh uh a lot of kids actually actually want to see that.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's the stupid thing.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_00: Kids are stupid, kids are fucking idiots, so they want to see that kind of shit.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: They probably they can like I think my opinion, if you're like the the and again now it come across like a real day in the life that I'm not, but it's just like that's that's like cool to see like what goes on in a day and whatever.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, how you grip your stick, I don't give a shit.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: I just put it on some uh I don't know the white uh thing one from Gribit and uh play a game, and but people make it like a whole uh uh like a science behind it with all the tape and shit.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but kids want to see that shit.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I would say that with the day in the life as well, like you you once you've seen one, you've seen all of them.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_01: That is they put on their moisturizer, they they cycle somewhere, they do some foam rolling, they go and do a hockey session, they have some food, there's a nice picture of some food, and then they're like the they film themselves going to bed.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_01: It's like it's uh same same now.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: Never really thought of it like that.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that's kind of true.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: Well, I hope we haven't offended too many people with the the growth of social media influences, but we we appreciate, I think we both appreciate what you do.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_00: We just want to want to uh uh um uh um what do you call it?
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_00: Like uh stir the pot.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_00: No, not stir the pot, but we're gonna wanna uh uh tell them to up your game even a bit more.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like now it's getting maybe it's getting a bit still and too comfortable, and you guys gotta be uncomfortable again.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_00: Make some shit no one else makes.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_00: We we're putting some ideas out there.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_00: Do the 60 against two, like Terrence and Yip, doing everything together.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: Let's see how you guys would do against 50 uh 50 uh uh uh six-year-olds.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_00: Like okay, you win.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_00: Like, Duco, go into a boxing ring against 26-year-olds.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: See if you can win.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_00: Like, do some shit that no one else does.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_00: And to get ready with me, we we've got it.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: We've got it.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_00: You won't get it, you did it.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: You guys are you guys are very handsome and you have great skincare, and you you phone roll.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_00: But we want new shit.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_00: We're pushing you, we're pushing you to new heights.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: One compliment I have to pay is that when people do it right, it looks so good.
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, is that there's a lot of like the the the stuff that me and you are basically the most use useless people in the world, which is like the editing, the tech technology behind it, is like how to make it look good.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they yeah.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_01: And if you do, I would shout out like Yip, um Matt Ramshaw.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_01: They they actually like edit stuff to make it look really professional, yeah.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_01: And so everyone do that a bit better as well.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_00: And yeah.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: I'll I'll try, I'm I'll maybe do a day in the life.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, I'll film myself myself in the shower, like full on, like everything.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_00: You see, what would be up our street is doing a parody of that.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, did you film your cock?
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_01: Getting ready would be.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_01: We should have a bet like the next time we play each other, if we ever play each other again, because I can I need to get picked.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: Is that the loser has to do a day in the life?
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do want to do a do you want to do a handshake on that?
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_01: You heard it here first.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_01: That is the that's a great way to end the episode.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, this has been episode eight of uh of Let's Stick Together.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_01: Thank you for listening.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_01: Um we appreciate we appreciate you.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: Uh see you.
