2:23
[SPEAKER_03]: Let's build something beautiful together.
2:28
[SPEAKER_02]: Junior you're not having that was a whole different story like you I remember from the first games we played with each other he's yelling baby baby an apple apple and I'm like what the fuck is this guy talking about I'm a play right and he's running enemies I'm like this he says dog cuss me on the silent that the two we're gonna be doing you know I say I'm going to get out of there I go hey I didn't play San Diego with you you got to tell me these things before you
3:13
[SPEAKER_05]: wrong side of the ball, but these are the kind of dudes that you like to hang out with when you play for street creds.
3:18
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, dude dudes man.
3:19
[SPEAKER_03]: These are the dudes that you always want to hang out with bro.
3:22
[SPEAKER_03]: You always want to try to go out with somebody who's dudes right here.
3:25
[SPEAKER_03]: Man, just in case I start talking shit because I like to talk shit and I got a hide behind some big tough motherfuckers man and this is one of them for sure man.
3:33
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm pumped.
3:34
[SPEAKER_03]: We got big 10 in the house, big Seth.
3:36
[SPEAKER_03]: We got all kinds of stuff.
3:37
[SPEAKER_03]: So it's gonna be a lot of fun with this one right here.
3:40
[SPEAKER_05]: So you talk about big tough motherfuckers that what a great way to introduce Jeff Skanina.
3:45
[SPEAKER_05]: So first of all, Jeff, before we get in all the fun stuff, thanks for diving in, man, to the fish tank.
3:51
[SPEAKER_05]: I didn't think that this would ever happen and here we are.
3:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I'm happy to be on the show with you guys, man.
3:57
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm happy you finally invited me.
3:59
[SPEAKER_02]: You always talked about it and I've never turned a message.
4:01
[SPEAKER_02]: Just like, yeah, let's get on and then your two goes by and you hit me up again.
4:05
[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't play a game in the big test.
4:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Remember you're at the convention with me and we sat there when you're coming in, but you're a year or two away if I remember correctly.
4:22
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, man, a year away, man, you know what, two Jeff men growing up in the big Tim, a whole life, man, you know, being in Ohio, being in Ohio State fan, and they tease me like that in Chicago, you know what I mean?
4:35
[SPEAKER_03]: But I haven't been making us go to the convention and hell, we couldn't play.
4:38
[SPEAKER_03]: We played a year after that in the big 10.
4:40
[SPEAKER_03]: So you're right, bro, you know, but I've been nothing all about the big 10 ever since though.
4:44
[SPEAKER_03]: How about that?
4:44
[SPEAKER_03]: I've been all about the big 10 ever since.
4:46
[SPEAKER_02]: But you're still claimed you was a big ten players, so just don't we know that there we go I'll pre-season it though whenever you know you got your issues just like us right now, you know
4:55
[SPEAKER_05]: I'm not going to break up the Penn State stuff, but let's go, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
5:17
[SPEAKER_05]: and one of the main characters was like a big burly ornory defensive lineman who would just mother fuck you as quickly as he would have your back right the kind of guy who would stuff a guy like me into a locker.
5:30
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I am a beer after the show.
5:32
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you'd definitely.
5:33
[SPEAKER_05]: It would be just canina like that's the guy that you would test for that role.
5:37
[SPEAKER_05]: Jeff, am I am I being fair to you right now?
5:40
[SPEAKER_05]: Is that the right part for you or am I being a little unfair?
5:43
[SPEAKER_05]: Everything but the beer.
5:45
[SPEAKER_02]: We've been drinking martinis.
5:47
[SPEAKER_02]: Or just fucked on the rocks.
5:48
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
5:49
[SPEAKER_02]: The beer fills me up, makes me grumpy, you know, puts me to sleep.
5:53
[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, that Polish vodka now, that can get me going for a while.
5:57
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I just seem to remember that, you know, after the games, you get, you always pull out the cooler.
6:04
[SPEAKER_05]: in the parking lot, you know, JT would come out last, right?
6:08
[SPEAKER_05]: Zack maybe five minutes before him, but you and Junior the party was already started.
6:13
[SPEAKER_05]: Guys were sitting in the back of a pick-up, the cooler was there, there might have been some beer and I guess apparently some other things flowing.
6:19
[SPEAKER_05]: So, you know, that's where that came from.
6:21
[SPEAKER_02]: you know, he was just like me, you know, he was a San Diego and I was all my other stops.
6:25
[SPEAKER_02]: We've, we were always the two that would have the, you know, the after dinner drink or after game drinks and food, you know, and he had public sponsor in it, so he's from good sandwiches, you know, wings, and, you know, we had one point, you know, give the year we had a generator down there with fans for everybody, I mean, the tents,
6:43
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, you sweet that back corner there that old lot, you know, we did that.
6:47
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I'll set up for us.
6:50
[SPEAKER_02]: Go in.
6:50
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
6:52
[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, you spent a few hours after the game there and said, you know, let the traffic dot down.
6:57
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you got your own post game tell game.
6:59
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I kind of started doing that in St. Louis because we just didn't feel like leaving right away and, you know, you want to fight traffic.
7:06
[SPEAKER_02]: So we would always have a little get together, you know, and then when I got to Miami Junior said he did it.
7:10
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, oh, I'm all in.
7:12
[SPEAKER_02]: So we, you know, we park next to each other.
7:14
[SPEAKER_02]: We had a little little shinding going.
7:16
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and you know, being said, that's, you know,
7:23
[SPEAKER_03]: up tight, you know, from the last game you played all week long, pre game the game and then right after the game, well, you talk about the time to exhale, man, that is, that is ideal right there with some food and a couple of bruises.
7:34
[SPEAKER_03]: That's ideal right there.
7:36
[SPEAKER_05]: Well, they, he definitely led the charge with that, but I love how everything but the beer, the ordinary part, check, stuff and Seth in the locker, check, you know, all in that part, like you had no issues with any of that.
7:49
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I guess why I didn't do any media back then, because I was a mean to you, you know, like, everyone's like, you're doing media now, I go, whoa, yeah, kind of, they're like, huh, you wouldn't do it when you were playing.
7:57
[SPEAKER_02]: I go, nobody would ask me a question.
8:00
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's all that was weird.
8:02
[SPEAKER_02]: They were pretty good.
8:03
[SPEAKER_03]: They were pretty good.
8:03
[SPEAKER_03]: They were pretty good.
8:04
[SPEAKER_03]: They were pretty good.
8:06
[SPEAKER_03]: They go about their work and it's quiet work.
8:08
[SPEAKER_03]: You hear about the other guys that he's helping out and things like that, you know, the mixture he's taking to and guys like Zack and those guys can float.
8:16
[SPEAKER_03]: and make tackle and stuff.
8:17
[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, it's, it's honestly a position that, you know, people don't respect enough until they're, you know, till we get them opportunity right now and it's showing that love and respect.
8:29
[SPEAKER_05]: Well, the respect they showed in the locker room was to keep it moving and stay out of that section of the locker room.
8:33
[SPEAKER_05]: That was a part of town.
8:35
[SPEAKER_05]: You did not want to be hanging out.
8:36
[SPEAKER_03]: And that is for sure.
8:37
[SPEAKER_03]: I love you.
8:38
[SPEAKER_03]: And, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and
8:58
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you're all big 10, you're seeing your year, cold defense player the year in the conference, you know, you know, honest, I would have loved, you know, to play with you, other than Japan, which we talked about a little bit before we got on the air, man.
9:10
[SPEAKER_03]: But unfortunately, I was already retired by the time you got down here to Miami, talk about why after a decade of NFL football, including, you know, winning Super Bowl and saying, Lewis, that you can still chose to keep things rolling down here in Miami.
9:25
[SPEAKER_02]: the love of the game, you know, it's, it's already, like even to this day it's hard to give it up, you know, like, I'm in a bad mood every summer because I know I'm going to training camp and if you know if I'm not, and not coaching, you know, but even like normal life, like, I'm not a good person, the end of July and it's like, you know, August, like, I keep checking myself and my therapist, she's like, hey, it's getting to that time ago.
9:45
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, oh, no, I know what is, you know, I, you know, that's
9:50
[SPEAKER_02]: If you're hanging around me this time of year don't take things personal because it's just might get my mind ready for, you know, back when we were playing was eight, nine weeks of training camp, you know, this cake walk to have now is, you know, I mean, I still be playing if I had this set up, you know.
10:07
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, I just could get my mind ready and I'm like, get angry, angry, angry, angry, you know, and it just never goes away.
10:12
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I never will.
10:13
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I kept playing.
10:15
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I ain't got a lot.
10:17
[SPEAKER_02]: I try to come back from my 18th year.
10:19
[SPEAKER_02]: I knew my body wasn't going to allow me, but mentally, I'm like,
10:23
[SPEAKER_02]: Because, you know, and the marchers are feeling good again, like, yeah, maybe I'll do it.
10:26
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, no, no, you know, then I just remember how those week 10 on, you know, that the 17 seasons was like, oh, 17, see what I'm gonna tell you what, though.
10:38
[SPEAKER_02]: So let me be with a call.
10:38
[SPEAKER_02]: I would have, they were on my back.
10:41
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sitting by the phone waiting.
10:43
[SPEAKER_02]: We can't wait.
10:45
[SPEAKER_02]: We can't wait.
10:46
[SPEAKER_03]: Give me the training camp.
10:47
[SPEAKER_03]: Give me a couple more of those game checks.
10:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Hell yeah.
10:49
[SPEAKER_05]: You damn right.
10:50
[SPEAKER_05]: Well, that's what they do now.
10:51
[SPEAKER_05]: They don't even write it.
10:53
[SPEAKER_05]: Half of these guys don't go.
10:54
[SPEAKER_05]: They don't sign with anybody.
10:55
[SPEAKER_05]: They hold out for these crazy offers.
10:58
[SPEAKER_05]: Because they know they're not going to get them.
10:59
[SPEAKER_05]: They skip training camp.
11:01
[SPEAKER_05]: T-buck was the first guy that I saw.
11:02
[SPEAKER_05]: Do that kind of late in his career.
11:04
[SPEAKER_05]: skip all of training camp, and then somebody goes down, and who can we call?
11:08
[SPEAKER_05]: Well, Scanena looks like he still has a little bit left, right?
11:11
[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, that's what these guys seem to do now.
11:14
[SPEAKER_05]: But Jason, I were talking about it on the phone earlier, he goes, if I can realize he played 17 seasons, like that cannot be common at the defensive tackle position.
11:24
[SPEAKER_02]: There's only two of us.
11:26
[SPEAKER_02]: Ted Washington was the other one.
11:28
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's what I don't mean.
11:29
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
11:29
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, Ted and I, you know, we're tied at that.
11:32
[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, they said that I didn't get the, you know, the luxury of sitting out of training camp, my last year.
11:40
[SPEAKER_02]: Like they called me the week off training camp.
11:42
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Coach Kubeyek did done a detection.
11:44
[SPEAKER_02]: So it was, hey, we want to bring you back.
11:46
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, okay, I was on the beach in April, Florida, when he called me, you know, I'm about the family chilling, you know, relaxing, I'm like, yeah, I was working out, you know, I was like, in back of my head, you know, I was a free agent, but I was like, I want to play.
11:59
[SPEAKER_02]: I want to play, you know, I was going through the summer workouts, you know, and yada yada.
12:03
[SPEAKER_02]: So it went out there and then he, then he tells me he goes, listen, you are a campbody, you ain't making this roster, and I'm like, all right, I'm 39 years old, I need game
12:13
[SPEAKER_02]: a some sort to show that can still play because no one's calling.
12:16
[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't get a phone call off season, you know, for even a visit, you know, so, like, all right.
12:22
[SPEAKER_02]: So, shoot, I went to training camp, taking all 13 reps, you know, and that's fourth preseason game.
12:28
[SPEAKER_02]: I played the whole game from snap to finish up in Tampa.
12:33
[SPEAKER_02]: Even I kick off return getting blown up by some guy that's going to go be delivering pizzas at Domino tomorrow morning because he ain't making a roster and I'm getting lit up, you know, thinking I'm getting cut the next day, which
12:45
[SPEAKER_02]: Luckily, you know, and fortunately, I never got that phone call to come in and turn my playbook in and I made my 17th year.
12:52
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, my God, that, that, that's crazy, but yes, so, you know, you think about it when you came to Miami, that, that defense line, it was, it was loaded up front, you know, because if, you know, we, we had, you know, some guys out there that were just pretty incredible.
13:07
[SPEAKER_03]: But I remember when you got there,
13:09
[SPEAKER_03]: And what a group of guys that you had to deal with, man, particularly the D line.
13:14
[SPEAKER_03]: So you walk in that room, you talk a little bit about Tim bones.
13:16
[SPEAKER_03]: You got Larry Chester, you got, you know, at D Taco, along with a young Dario Romero.
13:22
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's my dude.
13:23
[SPEAKER_03]: We had Dario on that.
13:25
[SPEAKER_02]: He's so much fun on here, bro.
13:27
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, in JT, while a debo, you know, Robert Net on defense events.
13:33
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that meeting room had to be out of control.
13:36
[SPEAKER_03]: Can you give us a story about these guys, man, and that, that cast the characters that were in there, man, because it seemed like, Holy cow, with the guys that we've had on this podcast as well as, you know, the guys that we haven't, but we know them, tell us about that group and give us a couple stories about what we're on in that, on that defense.
13:52
[SPEAKER_02]: it was, it was crazy.
13:55
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, and I tell people that D-line room, and all my years of playing, and you know, was the greatest room ever.
14:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Between that era, you know, the wants that era and even the Sabin era.
14:08
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm going to jump back and forth here because in the same year, so we, you know, we lost timber, we lost, you know, Larry, you know, and while I, and Deepo, and I'll go, but who we pick up Kevin Carter, Vani Holiday, Keith Trailer, some more clowns, right?
14:22
[SPEAKER_02]: So I was fortunate, you know, that room for four years was an unbelievable room to go to work every day too, because there was so much fun.
14:30
[SPEAKER_02]: And we were all like the same age, too, which helps.
14:33
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we all do the same issues.
14:34
[SPEAKER_02]: We've all got families at home that we're dealing with, you know,
14:37
[SPEAKER_02]: So you come to work.
14:38
[SPEAKER_02]: It's like a relief and you give them the discuss things, you know, and it was just a so much fun, you know, and it was every spectrum, you know, you got country timbo, you know, you got, you know, Larry Chester, you know, you got guys, you know, and he got Keith Trailer, who's, I don't know if you guys know Keith at all, but he was one of the funniest bastards ever played with.
14:56
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh yeah.
14:56
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he was funny in his hell.
14:58
[SPEAKER_02]: He'd be telling Ted Washington stories about eating all the time, and he was back to 450, you know, and all the other guys, you know, their weight problems out of weight.
15:07
[SPEAKER_02]: I had a gangweight half the time, you know, because I was trying to keep a stay smaller, so I could run with these cats, you know.
15:13
[SPEAKER_02]: And they're talking about what would, you know, weight loss things are doing, you know, and how they're losing their weight, you know, and then there's a good group of guys.
15:20
[SPEAKER_02]: Then you throw in junior, who's a wildcarc?
15:23
[SPEAKER_02]: I've never been around somebody as it when I was playing that was on his spectrum.
15:30
[SPEAKER_02]: Like we go out and it was all, you know, everybody wanted a piece of junior.
15:34
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we were out with some movie stars one time and they want nothing to do with those movie stars.
15:38
[SPEAKER_02]: They want a junior, you know, they want a piece of junior, you know, it was just like, Holy cow, this dude's like a rock star.
15:44
[SPEAKER_02]: I remember we got a little book.
15:46
[SPEAKER_02]: a little white book that they had like, you know, A for Apple, D for whatever, and a picture junior for the kids, right?
15:53
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, what is a little porn mustache from San Diego, you know?
15:57
[SPEAKER_02]: I brought it.
15:57
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm signed it.
15:58
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, hey, you're doing sign this for me, man.
16:00
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm bad.
16:01
[SPEAKER_02]: He, okay.
16:03
[SPEAKER_02]: So, but, you know, him, he, like I say, it's such a wild car, but he was so smart.
16:08
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
16:08
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, his film study was, it was no different than Zach.
16:11
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Zach and
16:13
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I play some pretty good linebackers.
16:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Those two cats are some of the smartest ever, you know.
16:18
[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly, we call them plays out, you know, or tell them me where to step or line them me up different, you know, just that, you know, help him.
16:23
[SPEAKER_02]: That's how you do.
16:24
[SPEAKER_02]: It's about you.
16:24
[SPEAKER_02]: Ain't about me.
16:26
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not here to make plays.
16:27
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm here to like protect you.
16:29
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
16:29
[SPEAKER_02]: Because I'm not athletic enough.
16:30
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a square box, Poloctad, just like to stay one little spot.
16:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Don't take blocks off me.
16:35
[SPEAKER_02]: Go make the plays, you know.
16:37
[SPEAKER_02]: He was good about that.
16:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Where is Junior?
16:39
[SPEAKER_02]: Hmm, that was a whole different story like he I can remember the front of the first games we play I guess it's played with each other He's yelling Baby baby an apple apple and I'm like what the fuck's this guy talking about I'm a little play, right?
16:54
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's won an enemy.
16:55
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, you see, he starts dog cussing me on the silence.
16:58
[SPEAKER_02]: I go, too, what are we doing?
17:00
[SPEAKER_02]: He goes, if I say, hop, I'm going in the egg.
17:02
[SPEAKER_02]: You get out of there, I go, hey, hey, hey, I didn't play in San Diego with you.
17:06
[SPEAKER_02]: You got to tell me these things before you do it.
17:08
[SPEAKER_02]: And he looked at me, he goes, what's get the fuck out of there, I go, okay, no problem.
17:12
[SPEAKER_02]: I learned this.
17:13
[SPEAKER_02]: different guy on game day, right?
17:15
[SPEAKER_02]: There's something wrong.
17:16
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what it's different.
17:17
[SPEAKER_02]: Different.
17:18
[SPEAKER_02]: And in an exact economy, tell your buddy the quick, you're doing the defensive because Zach everything had to be like in line, you know.
17:25
[SPEAKER_02]: You could live outside the box.
17:27
[SPEAKER_02]: He was like, I got my study in.
17:29
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm in the box and you know, June's all over the place.
17:32
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
17:32
[SPEAKER_02]: And it's actually out of the guy, hey, hey, hey, you didn't your room.
17:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Not my room.
17:35
[SPEAKER_02]: He's not a
17:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Tackle you the linebacker you go talk to a buddy of a little infighting little fun.
17:43
[SPEAKER_05]: It was a chance to a buddy I'm gone right buddy.
17:48
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm going I'm going yeah.
17:51
[SPEAKER_03]: What's a funny about Junior when you say that Jeff is that, you know, we did a joint practice in San Diego with the chargers when he was out there and me him and Marino went out, you know, he took us out somewhere like to get something to eat, you know, while right there's restaurant.
18:06
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, for a few days they out.
18:08
[SPEAKER_03]: Remember say out the hat?
18:09
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
18:10
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and so we went there and I'm there with Damarino.
18:14
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Damarino is the man still.
18:16
[SPEAKER_03]: You know to me, but that like you said, it wasn't about Damarino.
18:19
[SPEAKER_03]: It was about junior say out, bro.
18:20
[SPEAKER_03]: And it was like, it was amazing that, you know, that he had that cloth leak.
18:25
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, wherever he was, he was definitely the man.
18:27
[SPEAKER_03]: He ran south Florida when he was down here as well.
18:30
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, but he ran everywhere.
18:32
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's the thing with him.
18:33
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, he could put him anywhere.
18:35
[SPEAKER_02]: And it was in five minutes and it's over.
18:38
[SPEAKER_02]: And that was the great thing about him.
18:40
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he had a huge heart and he just, you know, he was easy to talk to.
18:45
[SPEAKER_02]: He probably didn't know your name.
18:46
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the time.
18:46
[SPEAKER_02]: It's the color-break buddy.
18:48
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and I always would call, say, hey, hey, what's my name?
18:51
[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't ask you to say my name.
18:52
[SPEAKER_02]: They'd butcher my last name, a guy.
18:54
[SPEAKER_02]: That's good enough, buddy.
18:55
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
18:56
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
18:56
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
18:57
[SPEAKER_02]: He was always a life of wherever he walked into.
19:00
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, sounds like you guys had a really great friendship, man, right?
19:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we did.
19:04
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's originally a sign there, because we signed the same day.
19:06
[SPEAKER_02]: I was sitting in one stand's office, you know, and the agents are going back with Rick Spielman and saying, you know, and I was going from there to New England, you know, I was doing my tour of free agent visits.
19:19
[SPEAKER_02]: And Jim cargo, I don't know about your son in here, your son in here.
19:23
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I am, he goes, oh yeah, yeah, buddy, we're going to come here.
19:26
[SPEAKER_02]: I go, okay.
19:27
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's, you know, so we signed and then I tell him one more quick story about him.
19:32
[SPEAKER_02]: I think a month where we're working out and he's getting out and he's getting out of me about Mike March.
19:37
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, what are you doing, man?
19:39
[SPEAKER_02]: He goes, yeah, we came down and he ran me out of the building.
19:43
[SPEAKER_02]: Because during that week, we were playing San Diego.
19:46
[SPEAKER_02]: Mark's came in front of my Wednesday.
19:48
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the coaches give you a pep talk, you know, and he goes, and I'll, Mark's got to say, we're going to run that big sum bitch out of the building.
19:53
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to run that big sum bitch out of the building.
19:55
[SPEAKER_02]: I had no idea who he was talking about.
19:58
[SPEAKER_02]: None, till this conversation with Junior, he made Marshall do 15 like goal routes in a row.
20:06
[SPEAKER_02]: Junior left in the 1st quarter for an IV.
20:10
[SPEAKER_02]: There he right there.
20:11
[SPEAKER_02]: There.
20:14
[SPEAKER_04]: That's hilarious.
20:15
[SPEAKER_02]: But Junior goes, I get Mike back every year.
20:17
[SPEAKER_02]: My foundation in San Diego because with Junior to do, if you get invited to his foundation, he would find your number and just buy stuff for you.
20:25
[SPEAKER_02]: And you have to pay at the end of the night.
20:26
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so he's buying Mike's stupid stuff.
20:28
[SPEAKER_05]: I got to tell you this story and I'm going totally off script.
20:32
[SPEAKER_05]: My first year running Jason actually before we even ran Jason's foundation we did a golf tournament with JT's name on it.
20:39
[SPEAKER_05]: It was basically the genesis of the foundation.
20:41
[SPEAKER_05]: I was so working for the dolphins and junior was there.
20:44
[SPEAKER_05]: So we did this live auction item on stage and junior.
20:48
[SPEAKER_05]: Tony Saragusa had the mic, which is the most dangerous thing you could do is, you know, they both rest in police.
20:55
[SPEAKER_05]: But Tony had the mic.
20:56
[SPEAKER_05]: Junior was on stage, Marino and JT.
20:58
[SPEAKER_05]: So it was rock star up on stage.
21:01
[SPEAKER_05]: We were doing a live auction.
21:03
[SPEAKER_05]: And then they did this cruise.
21:05
[SPEAKER_05]: Well, Junior grabs the mic from Goose, and he starts pointing, because where's Bill Thauerback?
21:10
[SPEAKER_05]: Bill Thauerback from Publix.
21:11
[SPEAKER_05]: He bids 20,000.
21:12
[SPEAKER_05]: Where's Steve Bakken from the Hard Rock?
21:12
[SPEAKER_05]: He bids 22,000.
21:13
[SPEAKER_05]: Bill, you're a 23, and he's basically doing a bidding war, and the guys are just standing there with their, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh
21:20
[SPEAKER_05]: And then he ends up giving it to somebody and it ends up going for like 25 grand to both guys.
21:26
[SPEAKER_05]: He said, well, you guys can both come on the cruise.
21:28
[SPEAKER_05]: Neither of them bid a damn thing.
21:30
[SPEAKER_05]: You know, Junior just took over.
21:31
[SPEAKER_05]: There was nothing you could do.
21:33
[SPEAKER_05]: And I guess it was like shooting the egg app, right?
21:35
[SPEAKER_05]: There was nothing you could do at that point.
21:37
[SPEAKER_05]: And I have to do a deal.
21:39
[SPEAKER_05]: Right, exactly, I have to do a flashbacks.
21:42
[SPEAKER_05]: My poor guy Steve Bach and I think they just paid that thing off at the hard rock after about 20 years So that's what the deal was there But going back to that D-line room you mentioned Kevin Carter and I'm glad you did because and you guys played together Also, it's St. Louis the kid sees that when he got here he's like look I played with some you know We want a super ball.
22:00
[SPEAKER_05]: I played with some really impressive guys really talented guys But I never had more fun than I did with that group of guys in that room and it sounds like you had the same experience
22:10
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, it was like I said, it was, it was comedy every day, you know, and our D-line coach was Dan Quinn.
22:16
[SPEAKER_02]: That's, you know, that's the crazy thing about, you know, and we had coach with Nick Sabin.
22:20
[SPEAKER_02]: So we kind of like, our room was like, we kind of like, had to protect everybody else because what's Nick going to say to us, you know, at the end of the day, you know, I mean, he was like, okay, you know, we're on our mid 30s, you know, like,
22:32
[SPEAKER_02]: And we had, you know, we had, we had, we had many right was a rookie.
22:35
[SPEAKER_02]: We had a, you know, Matt Roth and, um, in the Vickerson, right?
22:40
[SPEAKER_02]: Those are our three rookies.
22:42
[SPEAKER_02]: I forgot about him.
22:44
[SPEAKER_02]: I forgot about him.
22:44
[SPEAKER_02]: And John Denny, the long snapper, he was at the end of the, is the rookie, you know, we had him in the Mormon John, right?
22:50
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was just a free for all every day, you know.
22:54
[SPEAKER_02]: We said you met, you know, Matt, you know, one point, Matt, and
23:02
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, what would we?
23:04
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, we're all through a fugal fugal block, right?
23:06
[SPEAKER_02]: And those two are in the sidelines in a fistfight, you're like, what the?
23:10
[SPEAKER_02]: But that was a room, you know, a bunch of DGD generates, you know?
23:15
[SPEAKER_02]: It was unbelievable.
23:15
[SPEAKER_02]: It was, I always tell people, it was a best room ever, of all time, you know.
23:22
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like, we had Clarence Brooks with Wands, that was our D-line coach.
23:26
[SPEAKER_02]: And then, you know, we got Dan, you know, and it was just, you know, I mean, Clarence and Dan were just there to like, like,
23:35
[SPEAKER_02]: the school teacher, you know, keep everybody in line, you know, make sure they don't steal anything or kill anybody, right?
23:42
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
23:58
[SPEAKER_02]: You know you just you've been in a lot of rooms right as a player if you treat it right you treat that guy right You know you bring something to the table right you know
24:08
[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to give you what we got, you know, now you try to like screw us over or lie to us or try, you know, trick us what you have as a coach, you know, and of course you got a trick dudes, you know, I'm lucky I have a little street credits so when I go and you know when I trick you like I'll get like like Micah, you know, sometimes he doesn't want to practice right like I hate to take this one here and I'll get you out in one or two.
24:30
[SPEAKER_02]: I'll leave me in the for ten.
24:31
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he's staring me from the feeling like, hey man, you know, he's going to do that forgot, you know, you know, man, I'm done.
24:39
[SPEAKER_02]: I go you're done.
24:39
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, you know, you got to shake up a place everyone's the while, you know, but get guys like that, you know, I did it like with my test what a few times and I was watching him with him, you know, I was like, hey, hey, just give me this one.
24:50
[SPEAKER_02]: Come on, man, I'm sorry, don't you give me this one, you know, then five plays later he'll dawn him, mother fucker, you know, you have to do that.
24:59
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, those two guys, those two coaches, I mean, they were completely different, but they, you know, they got it, they got us where we need to be, you know, and that's all the matters.
25:10
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you kept the group together, which is always good.
25:13
[SPEAKER_05]: Great guys, two, two great, great men.
25:16
[SPEAKER_05]: And I, you know, I can just picture the conversations with CB every time there was a sack that got credited to one guy and then, and then he went back and watched film and it looked like it'd be off.
25:27
[SPEAKER_05]: I said, I can send it in.
25:28
[SPEAKER_05]: I don't want to deal with these, you know, and then we'd have to call while I into the room and he'd get pissed at me and because he thought I was cooking the books for JT.
25:35
[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, it was a circus.
25:37
[SPEAKER_05]: It was an absence, sorry.
25:38
[SPEAKER_02]: I think my head off to JT because he did me a solid.
25:42
[SPEAKER_02]: He had a strip sack, we're playing Jacksonville, and the ball popped up and I caught it, and he could have easily turned that in, and he didn't.
25:50
[SPEAKER_02]: I got my only interception in my career.
25:52
[SPEAKER_02]: Wait a minute.
25:53
[SPEAKER_02]: I just saw that football the other day.
25:54
[SPEAKER_02]: That's why I said that, you know, because I was like, he could have easily, because he had an alcohol, and I'm not going to win that battle.
26:01
[SPEAKER_02]: Even illegal give it to JT over me, you know, but he didn't he never turned it in.
26:06
[SPEAKER_05]: So he's like, wait, one thirty nine and a half can go one forty and a half.
26:10
[SPEAKER_05]: We're almost in string and hold on.
26:11
[SPEAKER_05]: We need to go back and reevaluate.
26:15
[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
26:31
[SPEAKER_05]: with for meal.
26:33
[SPEAKER_05]: Well, for training camps.
26:35
[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
26:35
[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, yeah.
26:36
[SPEAKER_05]: I forgot you were there and then came back.
26:38
[SPEAKER_05]: So I laughed and I came back.
26:39
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
26:40
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
26:41
[SPEAKER_05]: But the point that I'm trying to make is did for meal, Mike Mart's, and then Dave wants that.
26:47
[SPEAKER_05]: Days of different cat.
26:48
[SPEAKER_05]: These are a little different than those other guys.
26:51
[SPEAKER_05]: And so, you know, your first year, oh three, you had Dave the entire time, then you had him, you know, tough season for Dave his final season in 040, you know, one and eight and was relieved of his duties and there was the whole Ricky leaving and all of those things he had to deal with.
27:06
[SPEAKER_05]: But I want to know what your Dave Wandset experience was like, because the one thing every time it was Timbo, I talked to Kim Bo Kamper was here the other day.
27:15
[SPEAKER_05]: And everybody's like, I just remember that Wandset could not pronounce his name.
27:21
[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, it's a gonia.
27:23
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he couldn't pronounce your name for shit.
27:26
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, he's not the only one.
27:27
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I was coaching Washington with Ron Rivera.
27:30
[SPEAKER_02]: He could never, ever.
27:32
[SPEAKER_02]: Like he'd be going like every year, we go into the coaches, you know, for like the rookies and then he'll stop.
27:37
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'll just say, hey, don't look at it because you look at it.
27:40
[SPEAKER_02]: You're done.
27:40
[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I'm saying?
27:42
[SPEAKER_02]: I was just listening to me and then let it go, you know?
27:46
[SPEAKER_02]: And he'd be like, ah, I said, don't do it.
27:49
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, be on the back of the room and then he then he's done, done, right?
27:53
[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
27:54
[SPEAKER_02]: That's so good.
27:55
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Dave, Dave could never pronounce it.
27:57
[SPEAKER_02]: Today, when I see him, you know, I bump into everyone so well, you know, you're like, I got a guy around him.
28:04
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
28:04
[SPEAKER_02]: That's no different.
28:04
[SPEAKER_02]: When I, my first year coach was in Houston, right?
28:07
[SPEAKER_02]: And, um, Wade Phillips was our decordinator.
28:10
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm more kind of under Wade.
28:12
[SPEAKER_02]: And you said no one to any goes, man, he played 17 years.
28:16
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know who you are.
28:17
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, okay, maybe it wasn't your kind of player coach.
28:20
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what to tell you.
28:21
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, then like three days later, my name tag went up.
28:23
[SPEAKER_02]: And he goes, oh, now I know who you are.
28:25
[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, I know.
28:27
[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's, you know, the way he said, it's not the way it's spelled.
28:30
[SPEAKER_05]: So someone was telling him your name and it didn't register with them, but then he saw it in the, and he could just start having the nightmares.
28:36
[SPEAKER_05]: I love it.
28:37
[SPEAKER_05]: I love it.
28:37
[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, I don't want nightmares.
28:39
[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
28:45
[SPEAKER_03]: You're so little.
28:46
[SPEAKER_03]: You're not just a single block man, stand and leave that long grumps, all right, bro.
28:49
[SPEAKER_03]: Doesn't work out that way, man.
28:51
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, against the run, yeah.
28:52
[SPEAKER_03]: But I'm saying, Pastor check.
28:53
[SPEAKER_03]: I got you.
28:54
[SPEAKER_03]: I got you.
28:55
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just when you only have 26 and a half section in your career for 17 years.
28:59
[SPEAKER_02]: And some of these cats are dead and they're getting in one year.
29:01
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not very good.
29:02
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, you know what?
29:03
[SPEAKER_02]: I wasn't your job.
29:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
29:04
[SPEAKER_02]: No, I know.
29:05
[SPEAKER_02]: No, you're tough.
29:05
[SPEAKER_02]: You go a long way.
29:06
[SPEAKER_02]: You're right.
29:07
[SPEAKER_02]: First, second down.
29:08
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm good.
29:09
[SPEAKER_02]: Third down.
29:09
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even look.
29:10
[SPEAKER_02]: I just go right to sidelines.
29:11
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, look at the coach on the stand.
29:13
[SPEAKER_02]: I said, you don't want to get fired, but are you taking me out?
29:16
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
29:17
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
29:17
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, and speaking of wants that, man.
29:19
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, 2003 was kind of, you know, the last big shot they've had to, you know, to do something special.
29:26
[SPEAKER_03]: The year before you got there, he had leading Russia and Ricky Williams.
29:30
[SPEAKER_03]: He had what, 1800 yards scored 17 touchdown.
29:33
[SPEAKER_03]: JT led the league with 18 and a half sacks.
29:36
[SPEAKER_03]: We had like eight pro bull players, but we ended up all in seven.
29:40
[SPEAKER_03]: And then your year, we did go ten and six on the season.
29:44
[SPEAKER_03]: We should have made the playoffs, even though we did not make the playoffs.
29:48
[SPEAKER_03]: Now, you had just played with the greatest show on turf.
29:53
[SPEAKER_03]: went on, two Superbowls went in a ring of 99.
29:57
[SPEAKER_03]: Why couldn't that Dolphins team get over the hump?
30:04
[SPEAKER_02]: Honestly?
30:07
[SPEAKER_02]: Corbreck.
30:09
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, look, again, I'm just on what you've used.
30:12
[SPEAKER_02]: You can be compared to St. Louis.
30:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, we had two good corevex there.
30:15
[SPEAKER_02]: We had Trent Green before he got hurt.
30:18
[SPEAKER_02]: He was born, right?
30:19
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we're going to that preseason.
30:22
[SPEAKER_02]: He was rolling.
30:22
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it was, you could see something special.
30:26
[SPEAKER_02]: Because again, it helped, when we had it in Miami, we had one of them dudes in the backfield, right?
30:31
[SPEAKER_02]: You know?
30:31
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, we had to do that.
30:32
[SPEAKER_02]: It was a little better than Ricky because he could catch the ball better.
30:35
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he did some more things in the past game marshal and talking about, you know, could do some stuff, you know, and we had more wide receivers, you know.
30:42
[SPEAKER_02]: So offensively, I think we were a little bit better in St. Louis or as Miami that that defense was way better than we had in St. Louis, you know, you know, we had some pieces, you know, we had London Fletcher in the middle, you know, he's a young player, one of
30:56
[SPEAKER_02]: you know, during our runs, but he ended up being a solid player.
31:00
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, after that, you know, and we had some secondary people who drove lie, you know, catching everything, you know, we had Todd Light during the one run.
31:08
[SPEAKER_02]: He was, you know, Jason and our safety's were good, but not outstanding.
31:12
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, compared to what we had in Miami, you know.
31:15
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, the corners and the safeties in Miami were legit, you know, in our linebackers were come on now, really, you know.
31:21
[SPEAKER_02]: And again, you got a guy that can get the guy that's throwing a ball.
31:24
[SPEAKER_02]: That's the most important thing, you know.
31:26
[SPEAKER_02]: That's, you know, we had Leonard Little, he was coming on.
31:29
[SPEAKER_02]: He wasn't Leonard Little that he was later in his career, but he was coming on, you know.
31:34
[SPEAKER_02]: He was a converted linebacker.
31:36
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's a linebacker, right, you know.
31:38
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I
31:42
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I won't.
31:42
[SPEAKER_02]: I go, oh, yes you will.
31:45
[SPEAKER_02]: And then he found the, he's like, staring at, I'm going to get cut.
31:47
[SPEAKER_02]: I better put my hand in dirt and try this out.
31:50
[SPEAKER_02]: And then they're like, oh, okay, now you're a multi-millionaire, you know, because you got the guys throwing a ball.
31:56
[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
31:56
[SPEAKER_02]: So, but anyway, you all comes back down to that that quarterback, you know, you see it year and year out.
32:00
[SPEAKER_02]: Wise Kansas City, so good quarterback.
32:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Wise Buffalo, so good.
32:05
[SPEAKER_02]: They've struggled a little bit.
32:06
[SPEAKER_02]: That quarterback saves them, you know?
32:08
[SPEAKER_02]: So that's what it is.
32:09
[SPEAKER_02]: When you have one, you have one, you got to keep on to that one.
32:14
[SPEAKER_02]: It's teams of trying, trying their hardest to find that one.
32:18
[SPEAKER_02]: Look at Cleveland, there are 42 quarterbacks, you know?
32:22
[SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, until you find one, that's, get that get you over to home.
32:28
[SPEAKER_05]: it's interesting to hear a defensive player say that juice right because you always the old the old school thing was it often sells tickets and defense wins championships but if you look at hearing you compare those two teams you had the greatest show on turf versus you know one step ball was run it run it punt it right you know i mean that was kind of his his philosophy and let's just keep it close at the end and then hope that we can pull it off so it's just it
32:53
[SPEAKER_05]: I think that that was probably when the league you started to notice that big shift and the rules and everything else and Man that team in St. Louis could throw it around the art.
33:03
[SPEAKER_03]: What I could day and then you know what next mix up in Jeff I'm sure you think this too.
33:07
[SPEAKER_03]: You know when you got an offense like that and make sure defense that much better.
33:10
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah
33:10
[SPEAKER_03]: you know when you when you start most games up 10 nothing 14 nothing now your defense can do whatever the hell they want to do teams are you know off schedule and they got to try to do all these different things so yeah that same thing happened in New England when New England was playing Tom Brady era 10 nothing 14 nothing right away in the first quarter and you know that that makes the defense so much better because the other team has to take so many chances so many risks at that point.
33:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, without a doubt, I mean, you just sit there, you know, we were like, telling our coach, come on, hurry up, we want to go watch the offense, you know, because we had five dudes that were explosive.
33:43
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, I mean, it was like, it was like, it's going to be hours of time, Ricky Pro was going to be Isaac Bruce, Tory, whole, you know, rolling Williams, you know, Marshall fall.
33:53
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you can keep going on a list of dudes, you know, I was just like, it was fun to watch them, you know, and we're like, oh, they scored.
33:58
[SPEAKER_02]: Man, I don't big deal.
34:00
[SPEAKER_02]: Here we go, you know,
34:01
[SPEAKER_02]: It was good and bad and we're playing a Super Bowl tennis Eagles on a 14 15 play drive.
34:06
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gasped.
34:08
[SPEAKER_02]: What's the first play bomb the eyes that can we're back on the field?
34:11
[SPEAKER_02]: Are you kidding me?
34:13
[SPEAKER_02]: In a dome and it's a second half in the smoke was still there from freaking half time.
34:17
[SPEAKER_02]: I go, you kidd me Can we just run the ball twice before we do this?
34:21
[SPEAKER_02]: But that was a do it, but you're happier and hell, you know, we're scoring again, you know, right?
34:27
[SPEAKER_02]: And I can remember Mike all he wanted to go down a love because I love it our coordinator, you know, it's the second half of the Mike
34:32
[SPEAKER_02]: Time to send this he goes hey man give me the ball back now and just walk away He never really talked to love you or the defense is on the ball and you just walk away You know, yeah, it gets out of your big at the ball from Mike that's hilarious that must be Just that you're telling a wide receiver these stories man.
34:49
[SPEAKER_02]: He's like foaming Oh, you love that Don't think though you better like you better know your stuff.
34:55
[SPEAKER_02]: We had some kicks from town to cats come through there They could pick it up and Mike you're gone
35:00
[SPEAKER_02]: And here's your what he page in free agency.
35:02
[SPEAKER_02]: He got rid of your right away.
35:03
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, if you had to learn this stuff and that's why Ricky Pro was so valuable Yeah, that dude knew every spot in my friend.
35:09
[SPEAKER_02]: It'll cast you like even though I they were seeing you like some of the older vets guys like Oh, and then we can be a little bro.
35:15
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, you know, here we go that would have been you juice Yeah, yeah, I learned every all the running back position is what I learned all that stuff man Just like it be on the field and get an opportunity every single Sunday Monday, Thursday whatever hell it might have been
35:28
[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, no, I was the same in the D line.
35:31
[SPEAKER_02]: I knew the DN stuff.
35:31
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you want a six six zero zero six fricking square box out there playing crash nine, but if I had to do it, I did it and the reason why I would do it like have time to play DN like, oh, I got JT next to me.
35:44
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm getting a single, but I'm getting a guard eventually.
35:47
[SPEAKER_02]: We're gonna fan or maybe get the time we get to the center by telling a fan all the way out to me to get J.T.
35:53
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but today's game, you might be at coverage now sometime when they drop all the juice.
35:59
[SPEAKER_02]: We're playing Monday now, it's playing for Atlanta, right?
36:02
[SPEAKER_02]: And I got my first SACTA game against Steve Young.
36:06
[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, money and other stuff, even though I ran them out of bounds for no gain, but still a sack, and then, um, I had a drop in who's coming across the middle.
36:15
[SPEAKER_02]: Rice, I'm like, are you kidding me?
36:17
[SPEAKER_02]: And Steve throws it to him.
36:19
[SPEAKER_02]: And he like broke down and shook me, and I just like dead fish, and I tripped them.
36:24
[SPEAKER_03]: He was like, thank God!
36:28
[SPEAKER_03]: Ready, you're ready to go down, but then play the chase game, right?
36:31
[SPEAKER_03]: Instead of the, oh, chase game.
36:32
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just glad he went down, you know?
36:35
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you have to see him score the touchdown, and then who's the first one he, you know, took out of the socks, you know?
36:40
[SPEAKER_05]: That is great.
36:41
[SPEAKER_05]: I love that he expected you to do something different.
36:44
[SPEAKER_05]: Like a poker when they say the really sophisticated poker players when you're playing somebody that you don't know, you're doing all your different moves and your bluffs.
36:51
[SPEAKER_05]: It's lost on just maniacs, or we're just gonna hit on everything that you know, they're gonna take every.
36:55
[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
36:55
[SPEAKER_05]: every bank, so that's kind of what Rice did.
36:57
[SPEAKER_05]: He tried to put all this sophisticated moves.
37:00
[SPEAKER_05]: He thought he was going to get somebody who actually moved.
37:03
[SPEAKER_05]: Very funny.
37:04
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, what I was shaking is wasted on me.
37:06
[SPEAKER_00]: What have going bankrupt was the best thing that happened to you.
37:09
[SPEAKER_00]: Whether it's your wages being garnished, car repossessed, house for closed, or you're suffocating with that.
37:15
[SPEAKER_00]: A good bankruptcy attorney can give you peace of mind that you need and deserve.
37:19
[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Chad Van Horn from Van Horlog Group, and I've personally seen people thrive after filing for bankruptcy.
37:25
[SPEAKER_00]: The shame of bankruptcy is just a toy to keep you in debt forever.
37:28
[SPEAKER_00]: There is no shame to work with Van Hormelogrup to get rid of your debt for good.
37:32
[SPEAKER_00]: If you're ready to get your life back, call us today.
37:35
[SPEAKER_00]: Say, I'd last been you'll.
37:36
[SPEAKER_05]: So, so all three, unfortunately, as we said, it didn't work out.
37:40
[SPEAKER_05]: Dave even, he was on the show and he talked about how, you know, as a coach, you have a window and his window closed.
37:44
[SPEAKER_05]: He, you know, he kind of knew it when it didn't work out.
37:48
[SPEAKER_05]: taking responsibility of the whole different conversation, but but that was a deal of four absolute disaster, Ricky retired right before the season, the wheels just come off Davis out and then in 05, here comes Nick Sabin.
38:01
[SPEAKER_05]: One is national title at LSU.
38:02
[SPEAKER_05]: Now you you kind of alluded to this earlier with your room and veteran guys and you know here you are in your 13 or 14 at this point.
38:11
[SPEAKER_05]: And there's been some different saving perspectives on the show.
38:14
[SPEAKER_05]: Most people respected the fact that they learned a lot about football when he was the coach.
38:19
[SPEAKER_05]: But one of the other things that came out was that he really didn't know how to treat grown-ass men as grown-ass men at that point.
38:26
[SPEAKER_05]: And that might have been where he ran into, aside from choosing a quarterback, that might have been where he ran into some issues with some guys, is that he talked to guys like they were still 19-year-old college kids.
38:38
[SPEAKER_05]: As a guy who was, so I guess you were in your 13th NFL season, the first year, Saben got here, did you ever have that experience with Nick Saben?
38:49
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I mean, you could see it, you could see it and just talk and do them, you know, it was like, I don't know, I said one time, I mean, they do, we're all millionaires.
38:57
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you can't intimidate, you know, because you try, you know, sometimes you would try to like intimidate, which is like, yeah, you're a coach and you got it, you know,
39:04
[SPEAKER_02]: But we're millionaires, you know, especially in our room.
39:08
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that's right.
39:08
[SPEAKER_02]: We were all, you know, in our mid 30s.
39:10
[SPEAKER_02]: We've made a lot of money, you know, and it's like, okay, I get it.
39:12
[SPEAKER_02]: But again, Nick, he's a hell of a football coach.
39:13
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you,
39:23
[SPEAKER_02]: And just in some conversations, you know, he's like one of the guys, you know, I remember, you know, we JT took us off the dinner on his yacht one time, right?
39:31
[SPEAKER_02]: We went by Sabin's house.
39:32
[SPEAKER_02]: We were young for him.
39:33
[SPEAKER_02]: He wouldn't come out.
39:34
[SPEAKER_02]: So the next day we were giving him shit, you know, and he goes, oh, well, you know, he didn't want to say why, but you didn't come, couldn't come out, you know, but he was like cool about it, you know?
39:43
[SPEAKER_02]: So there was times he wasn't, times he wasn't.
39:46
[SPEAKER_02]: It just, you wish you would have worked out again.
39:50
[SPEAKER_02]: The thing that got him kind of probably was the quarterback issue, you know?
39:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
39:56
[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about earlier, you know, we didn't really have one.
39:59
[SPEAKER_02]: We went with Pap and it didn't work out, you know, you got hurt, and you know, that was that, you know.
40:04
[SPEAKER_02]: So could hedge your breeze.
40:06
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, but you know, I'm just talking about it.
40:08
[SPEAKER_02]: I get it.
40:09
[SPEAKER_02]: Why they didn't you know good.
40:10
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we didn't clear.
40:11
[SPEAKER_02]: We've talked all about it You know, so it is what it is, but you know, I we like us.
40:16
[SPEAKER_02]: I respect Nick.
40:17
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm glad I played for him.
40:19
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I had a great experience with him And he's one hell of a football coach, especially in college because that's you know some guys are made for it You know, some guys aren't I mean same with basketball.
40:27
[SPEAKER_02]: You see some of these college guys make that jump to NBA and they just can't do it.
40:31
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, but he is
40:34
[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of hope he comes back.
40:36
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
40:37
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think it was good to the game.
40:39
[SPEAKER_02]: Penn State.
40:41
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I don't know about Penn State.
40:44
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think, well, if you're, if you're cutting some of the NL checks, then you got a chance to get him up there.
40:49
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah, because he, he needs to get some of that good money.
40:53
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I hear that.
40:54
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, I think we're all from 13 a year.
40:56
[SPEAKER_03]: You can do that for us, couldn't he?
40:57
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we, we could do that, right?
41:00
[SPEAKER_03]: No, I'm not talking about his money.
41:01
[SPEAKER_03]: It's not the player money.
41:02
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I can't say.
41:03
[SPEAKER_02]: He just said, Alabama.
41:05
[SPEAKER_03]: I've got to have a big deal.
41:06
[SPEAKER_03]: They're gonna get paid now.
41:07
[SPEAKER_03]: And he act like they were.
41:08
[SPEAKER_03]: But it's a whole different story.
41:09
[SPEAKER_03]: Woo, we got no idea.
41:10
[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
41:32
[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't see that man.
41:34
[SPEAKER_03]: I definitely wouldn't get them way too wrong with you.
41:36
[SPEAKER_03]: You could have.
41:37
[SPEAKER_03]: I think the last year was up.
41:39
[SPEAKER_02]: Micah because because when I was in Dallas, last year, Micah was talking about it.
41:42
[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't get you to get back pay.
41:44
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, how far back you're going on?
41:46
[SPEAKER_02]: You're your way.
41:46
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, wait.
41:47
[SPEAKER_02]: You wait.
41:47
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not a three-hand man.
41:48
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just saying you guys out the back door, I'm not a producer.
41:51
[SPEAKER_02]: They weren't.
41:51
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, right.
41:52
[SPEAKER_05]: Tell me more about this back pay thing.
41:54
[SPEAKER_05]: That's hilarious.
41:55
[SPEAKER_03]: So Jeff, after four years of Miami, I mean, he spent another three in Houston, the wrap-up of 17-year career.
42:02
[SPEAKER_03]: We've talked a little bit about already.
42:03
[SPEAKER_03]: And that's unreal, yeah.
42:04
[SPEAKER_03]: We said it already, man.
42:06
[SPEAKER_03]: At your position, how do you get to 17 damn years?
42:10
[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, you mentioned a little bit, man.
42:12
[SPEAKER_03]: But how do you get, especially now, everybody knows the nutrition, certain way, all these things are completely different.
42:19
[SPEAKER_03]: How do you get to 17 damn years down there in the trenches?
42:24
[SPEAKER_02]: Mom and dad, and I always sell people, you know, this guy allowed to do your genetics, you know, because it just does, you know, you got a combine, you got all these gurus, you got, you know, you grew a guru, whatever.
42:40
[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't have a guru.
42:41
[SPEAKER_02]: I had a nutritious, I had Siri Melmond down there in Miami, you know, I used her.
42:46
[SPEAKER_02]: But that was about it.
42:48
[SPEAKER_02]: I did my own workouts.
42:50
[SPEAKER_02]: Junior and I did our own workouts, you know, Junior was there and I just did that.
42:54
[SPEAKER_02]: I know it was my mom and dad.
42:56
[SPEAKER_02]: It was the work ethic that my mom and dad showed me and it was the jeans that they gave me.
43:00
[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
43:00
[SPEAKER_02]: And that was always like, you know, you're, you said I was cold, but he 10 player the year, he just played the year and I got drafted in the seventh round as a long snapper.
43:12
[SPEAKER_02]: Not as a divot of tackle.
43:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Bill Carga on the phone on draft day and said, Hey, we're drafting you as a long snapper.
43:20
[SPEAKER_03]: Well, that's crazy.
43:21
[SPEAKER_02]: And what may you say no.
43:22
[SPEAKER_03]: Wow.
43:23
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it's a seventh round.
43:25
[SPEAKER_02]: That was the only year of the eight.
43:26
[SPEAKER_02]: That's another special thing.
43:27
[SPEAKER_02]: The class 93 has the only one year of the eight.
43:30
[SPEAKER_02]: Eight rounds.
43:31
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
43:31
[SPEAKER_02]: So I was getting close to being that eighth round.
43:33
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm like, OK, yeah, coach, I'm in.
43:35
[SPEAKER_02]: You know,
43:37
[SPEAKER_02]: And I outplayed the the back up in St. Louis or a Pittsburgh, you know, any one that spot and I was gonna be the starting snapper, but my last preseason game we're playing up in Minnesota, the dome, and I skipped one back, but you couldn't tell on tape because it was perfect.
43:52
[SPEAKER_02]: Right off that turf spiral right in the punters hands at the right the waist, but he said, oh, no, you just played D-line.
43:58
[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
43:59
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was 17 years, probably only snap seven times in a real game, right?
44:04
[SPEAKER_02]: Because if you lose it through our long snap bro, because you punched the rough and then I had to snap the rough again.
44:09
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was not too happy about that, right?
44:11
[SPEAKER_02]: You know.
44:12
[SPEAKER_02]: You know.
44:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you got off the pile and swung his hand back and clocked him off.
44:16
[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
44:17
[SPEAKER_02]: Face it knocked him off.
44:18
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, so Jeff, you were no matter what, you're back up on snap or alone.
44:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Back up on snap or yeah.
44:24
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
44:24
[SPEAKER_03]: I remember, J.T.
44:25
[SPEAKER_03]: had some of that role for a little bit too.
44:27
[SPEAKER_03]: Probably before you got there, J.T.
44:29
[SPEAKER_02]: had the one time that I actually got upset with Coach Saban, he made me an active.
44:38
[SPEAKER_02]: In New England, I remember J.T.
44:40
[SPEAKER_02]: was in a locker in practicing snacks because he was a pack of snapper.
44:48
[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I could be a defensive player of the year and he's friggin' practice since he's an army.
44:51
[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly, right.
44:52
[SPEAKER_03]: Exactly.
44:53
[SPEAKER_03]: More you can do bigs after more you can do.
44:55
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
44:56
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
44:56
[SPEAKER_03]: And then once you retire though, man, I mean,
44:58
[SPEAKER_03]: We, we, you tell me that Jeff was raising rodeo bulls.
45:03
[SPEAKER_03]: Hell yeah, dogs that competitive dog shows.
45:06
[SPEAKER_03]: And then, and then that's the, you know, you're back.
45:08
[SPEAKER_03]: But we would let to decision to lease a video live and get back into all the madness.
45:12
[SPEAKER_03]: You were rodeo bulls.
45:17
[SPEAKER_02]: But I, yes, yes, I am on my own rodeo comfy on Oklahoma.
45:21
[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, so we have a bull company, a rodeo company, we have a shirt company,
45:28
[SPEAKER_02]: uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh
45:59
[SPEAKER_02]: He retired.
46:00
[SPEAKER_02]: He asked me if I wanted to raise bucking bulls.
46:01
[SPEAKER_02]: I go, what is that?
46:02
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm from Chicago.
46:04
[SPEAKER_02]: No way.
46:04
[SPEAKER_02]: He was talking about, you know, he's explaining, yeah, sure, why not.
46:08
[SPEAKER_02]: So I bought a set of bucking bulls.
46:10
[SPEAKER_02]: Got kind of addicted.
46:12
[SPEAKER_02]: Found up there's online auctions.
46:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Like I said, I'm very competitive.
46:15
[SPEAKER_02]: That's our buying cows, bulls, semen, embryos, and buying all the sorts of shit.
46:20
[SPEAKER_02]: And he's like, hey, we need some more land.
46:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
46:23
[SPEAKER_02]: So now we're up to like, right, 1800 we're buying another,
46:28
[SPEAKER_02]: 300, or another 100 acres or something like that coming up.
46:33
[SPEAKER_02]: But so we're getting bigger, unfortunately, but I was just addicted, you know.
46:40
[SPEAKER_02]: Again, like I thought with the the genetics, you know, I'm taking world champion buck and bulls and breeding them to world class, cows out of world champions, you know, building that bloodline, you know, kind of like our parents, building us, you know.
46:55
[SPEAKER_02]: It's not as sophisticated, but we wanted hits and hits, you know, right, so I'm doing that and then the dog thing It was funny because before I got on here, I was just watching last year's Westminster On the TV before I got on
47:11
[SPEAKER_02]: He was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like, he was like
47:32
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sitting at the house.
47:34
[SPEAKER_02]: Kids are begging for a dog.
47:36
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm up late one night just bored.
47:39
[SPEAKER_02]: And, uh, a couple of glasses of that Polish vodka.
47:46
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm gonna get a dog.
47:48
[SPEAKER_02]: So I go online and kind of go with the fucking bulls, right?
47:52
[SPEAKER_02]: going for the world champion dogs in the country, looking at breeders, finds some breeder out in Ohio.
48:00
[SPEAKER_02]: She had the, the champion from the Westminster that year.
48:03
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, all right, so I email you getting a puppy's for sale.
48:06
[SPEAKER_02]: Sure, I got one meal left.
48:08
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, I'll be out next week to get it.
48:11
[SPEAKER_02]: So I fly all the way out to Ohio.
48:12
[SPEAKER_02]: Go to this little Amish town.
48:14
[SPEAKER_02]: It's buggy's everywhere.
48:15
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, oh, yeah, I won't get myself into it.
48:19
[SPEAKER_02]: Go.
48:19
[SPEAKER_02]: pick it and pick this little dog up.
48:21
[SPEAKER_02]: He's four weeks old or eight, eight weeks old.
48:24
[SPEAKER_02]: He's a very 25 pounds.
48:25
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, all right, I get home.
48:29
[SPEAKER_02]: No, my wife, the time's like, what is that?
48:31
[SPEAKER_02]: I got our dog.
48:32
[SPEAKER_02]: We need you got to talk.
48:33
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, she's mad at me.
48:34
[SPEAKER_02]: The kids are like, all ecstatic.
48:36
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, they're like, dad, mom's going to kick.
48:37
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, she might.
48:39
[SPEAKER_02]: She might.
48:40
[SPEAKER_02]: So I
48:44
[SPEAKER_02]: She's like, hey, are you in a compete with that dog or a compete with me?
48:48
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, the breeder says something.
48:49
[SPEAKER_02]: I bought it as a showdog, but I don't know what that means.
48:53
[SPEAKER_02]: She goes, oh yeah, he's better, better, better, better.
48:56
[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so now I'm in class this twice a week in Houston, right?
49:01
[SPEAKER_02]: So, going these classes, you know, I'm no idea what I'm doing.
49:04
[SPEAKER_02]: Like, do it for a couple of months and then he turned nine months and the first dog
49:11
[SPEAKER_02]: So I sign up.
49:13
[SPEAKER_02]: I go, I've got my coat and tie on, you know, I'm all slacked up, you know, I've got to go to classes, you know, I need to come out there.
49:20
[SPEAKER_02]: No idea what I'm doing.
49:22
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, kind of, but I'm just like, you know, it's different.
49:25
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it is different.
49:27
[SPEAKER_02]: Because when you're walking that ring,
49:30
[SPEAKER_02]: It was the most nervous I've ever been in my life.
49:32
[SPEAKER_02]: Right, you played it for a thousand thousand people.
49:35
[SPEAKER_02]: You millions of people, Super Bowl, nothing.
49:38
[SPEAKER_02]: No problems.
49:39
[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, between those little white gates with just fricking dog, right?
49:44
[SPEAKER_02]: Swetting through my sport coat.
49:45
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm only in there two minutes.
49:47
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm like, South Florida, fricking humidity drenched, right?
49:52
[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm like, holy cow, and I lost.
49:55
[SPEAKER_02]: And then that was it.
49:57
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, I'm gonna figure this out.
49:59
[SPEAKER_02]: So I want the next week and I was up in Parina and St. Louis at a big dog show.
50:05
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I had some guy like kind of corner me and kind of said a couple of things that I didn't care for.
50:09
[SPEAKER_02]: And then here comes the switch, right?
50:12
[SPEAKER_02]: Here we go.
50:13
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to figure this out.
50:14
[SPEAKER_02]: I met this couple Louisiana.
50:16
[SPEAKER_02]: They're almost, because I was in the Apollo to master.
50:19
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I was showing, right?
50:21
[SPEAKER_02]: So they were in that breed.
50:23
[SPEAKER_02]: And they kind of took me in the wing a little bit.
50:25
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I met this lady Jill Bell.
50:27
[SPEAKER_02]: She was a professional handler.
50:29
[SPEAKER_02]: She shows all breeds.
50:30
[SPEAKER_02]: I started helping her a little bit on the side, like, help her show and dog.
50:34
[SPEAKER_02]: She was teaching me.
50:35
[SPEAKER_02]: And she's like one of the best in the world at the time.
50:37
[SPEAKER_02]: And then I met this old lady Brenda, who scared the living shit out of me.
50:42
[SPEAKER_02]: Like she reminds me of an old nun from Catholic school.
50:44
[SPEAKER_02]: Like she took her year and a half to say hi to me.
50:47
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was like, kind of like, just like, it sounds like you're going to be around trying to help her.
50:50
[SPEAKER_02]: She'd be looking at her over her glasses, you know, I'm like, oh God.
50:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh God.
50:54
[SPEAKER_02]: But then she like gave me pointers.
50:56
[SPEAKER_02]: So I came pretty good at it, you know.
50:58
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like addicted to it, you know.
51:00
[SPEAKER_02]: I had three dogs that had a Sprinter van.
51:02
[SPEAKER_02]: We were driving around the country for like a year, you know, showing dogs.
51:05
[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it, and I still do it, and I still got one Neo and one little staff at that several-terrier, and you know, like, staffy came from Spain, this Neo came from Argentina, you know, and I love it.
51:20
[SPEAKER_02]: It's, you know, you can't go out there, and you know what the stupid dog is going to do.
51:25
[SPEAKER_02]: Like the NFL came out and did the special on me, right?
51:29
[SPEAKER_02]: Like under the helm where ever it was.
51:31
[SPEAKER_02]: And I was showing someone else's knee and it was the female.
51:34
[SPEAKER_02]: And she shit all over the ring.
51:38
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm out there in a specialty, the big kneeal thing, and she just all over the ring, you know?
51:43
[SPEAKER_02]: But that's you don't know.
51:44
[SPEAKER_02]: This dog can eat me.
51:46
[SPEAKER_02]: And I can't do nothing about it, you know?
51:48
[SPEAKER_02]: Like we have, like my dog now, the same thing.
51:51
[SPEAKER_02]: We have come to Jesus talks every once in a while.
51:54
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I have a big right on my arm the other day because I'll give him a shower.
51:57
[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't care for it.
51:58
[SPEAKER_02]: He like, he turned and I swung at him like an idiot, you know, an accidental, you know, flesh wound, but right.
52:04
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
52:05
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
52:05
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I heard a belly grug will really do you want a piece of mean.
52:08
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you know, like I could just picture Jeff and Hank.
52:12
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I got to come to Jesus.
52:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I do.
52:15
[SPEAKER_02]: But here's the thing, though, guys, it helped me with my coaching.
52:18
[SPEAKER_02]: You guys both knew me back in the day how the hot head and zero patience, you know, but to be able to talk to some An animal who can't talk back to you, but you got to read his body language.
52:31
[SPEAKER_02]: That seems to players because you have a As a player sometimes you don't want to answer a coach or you don't want to say some of the coach and I'm just looking I go All right, I got you, you know, I know because hey, we
52:43
[SPEAKER_02]: I've experienced everything this player has experienced in his career for the most part right I played this position I know the ups and downs.
52:50
[SPEAKER_02]: I know how to play with pain.
52:51
[SPEAKER_02]: I know how whatever then you go home with your bearing with kids and all Done it all and I always tell the guys room Just ask me is between you and me if you need help, I'll help you on and off to feel because I've done it And I've made more mistakes and you cats that will ever make in your life
53:09
[SPEAKER_02]: because of no cell phones and no social media, you're never gonna find out about what I did.
53:15
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, cause these cats like now it's under a microscope.
53:17
[SPEAKER_02]: You do something on the street.
53:19
[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm just gonna catch it.
53:20
[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
53:20
[SPEAKER_02]: Back when we were on the streets, oh, you know, well, that was being cocked.
53:23
[SPEAKER_02]: You had a, you might have had a pager.
53:26
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
53:26
[SPEAKER_02]: And a calling card.
53:29
[SPEAKER_03]: Right.
53:29
[SPEAKER_03]: Not a pager.
53:30
[SPEAKER_03]: So, right.
53:31
[SPEAKER_02]: I've got stuff.
53:31
[SPEAKER_03]: I got so many questions.
53:33
[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Jeff, I've been going to down here.
53:35
[SPEAKER_03]: I've been to the PBR multiple times.
53:37
[SPEAKER_03]: So, going back to that, man.
53:38
[SPEAKER_03]: I was always wondering, like, how do you get these these bucking bulls, man?
53:42
[SPEAKER_03]: How, what did they do to make them buck?
53:44
[SPEAKER_03]: Before we get shot, what do you do to make those bulls buck?
53:47
[SPEAKER_03]: How are you, how do you classify a bucking bulls?
53:50
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, again, it's all genetics, okay, like, I don't have a brother, but if I had a brother and he didn't play football, you know, it's genetics.
54:03
[SPEAKER_02]: There's that little one gene in that bowl that's, oh, here we go, I have bought and for a lot of money.
54:10
[SPEAKER_02]: full of brothers to world champion bucking bulls from the PBR from the PRC, whatever, you know, saying, and they've gone to the sale market, they wouldn't buck.
54:18
[SPEAKER_02]: So you, like I was like, oh, you tied that rope on the back.
54:21
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that slank rope is on the back, but it's like super loose.
54:26
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's very loose.
54:28
[SPEAKER_02]: It's just there if the brief sort of high legs kick up, everything's always, it's tied to their balls.
54:33
[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's not because you don't want a sterile bull,
54:38
[SPEAKER_02]: off of it.
54:39
[SPEAKER_02]: You don't really make it off of competing.
54:41
[SPEAKER_02]: Now, as a young animal is a two-year-old and a three-year-old and a four-year-old, there's competitions that you, you know, you have a buck and bull, you pay $1,500 to enter this event, you know, and then they pay out the first top ten bulls, whatever, you know what I'm saying.
54:57
[SPEAKER_02]: You make some money there, but you really don't because by the time you travel and feed and all that, you're just breaking even, you're hoping for
55:08
[SPEAKER_02]: It's all bread because some of these cat bowls that are fucking dudes you can go dirt dog gentle You can go into a pan with them and pet them and sit on them, and but once they're in that they're gate And that that flake ropes on them.
55:21
[SPEAKER_03]: It's a whole new ball game now, buddy Man, I'm always bent on the bull.
55:28
[SPEAKER_03]: I promise you that.
55:29
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm always bent on the bull.
55:30
[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, so my trust Yeah, we know you are Jeff.
55:33
[SPEAKER_02]: You're bet and have a lot of
55:35
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the world the world champion the goat of bullfighters, right?
55:41
[SPEAKER_02]: The bullfighters are clowns.
55:43
[SPEAKER_02]: We have a clock on clowns.
55:44
[SPEAKER_02]: They paint their faces, but the world does he tuckness in his dude is a freak athlete.
55:49
[SPEAKER_02]: I see him do some things in the bull ring that are unbelievable, right?
55:54
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, every time he gets hooked, I want my bulls.
55:56
[SPEAKER_02]: I take that bull and pull him in the front pasture and feed in the best freaking meal ever.
56:00
[SPEAKER_02]: I tell Dusty that, too.
56:02
[SPEAKER_02]: And that's the way he kind of, you know, started his career with us up in, you know, we rode in Cody, Wyoming, during the summer every night for three months.
56:10
[SPEAKER_02]: We've had it for 20, some years now.
56:12
[SPEAKER_02]: And so, you know, I always tell him, I go, hey dude, he's in front pasture.
56:17
[SPEAKER_02]: He's starting to laugh and he'll come home.
56:19
[SPEAKER_02]: Fran, you can't do that.
56:20
[SPEAKER_02]: I go, yeah, I can.
56:21
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh my god, it's too good.
56:23
[SPEAKER_03]: All right, they've ever heard you get out there real soon, man, but we wrap up every episode with two fun segments.
56:31
[SPEAKER_03]: We like to call this the first one we call this one, the fish tank numerology.
56:35
[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, so you want number 40 at Purdue, then 90 for the majority NFL career, including your time with the dolphins before, down in the 92 jersey with Houston for the final three season of your career.
56:46
[SPEAKER_03]: What's the story behind your numbers?
56:50
[SPEAKER_02]: 40 as a lineback when I went to Purdue.
56:53
[SPEAKER_02]: So I played everything in high school.
56:56
[SPEAKER_02]: Like we all did, right?
56:57
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
56:57
[SPEAKER_02]: So I show up there and Phil Bennett was our defensive coordinator.
57:03
[SPEAKER_02]: He recruited Chicago.
57:05
[SPEAKER_02]: That's what it was.
57:06
[SPEAKER_02]: And but so in Bill Colard, Illinois, I was going to go to Illinois.
57:11
[SPEAKER_02]: Some things happen.
57:14
[SPEAKER_02]: Mike White had a resign.
57:15
[SPEAKER_02]: So Phil got a job at Purdue.
57:18
[SPEAKER_02]: I went there.
57:20
[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like you're playing linebacker.
57:23
[SPEAKER_02]: I was like 260 in high school.
57:26
[SPEAKER_02]: So I got dialed on the 220s to play linebacker, right?
57:30
[SPEAKER_02]: And then a couple of guys got hurt.
57:32
[SPEAKER_02]: They moved me a D line, just kept the 40 number.
57:36
[SPEAKER_02]: That's how that started.
57:37
[SPEAKER_02]: And then when I went to Pittsburgh, got drafted, that's the number they gave me.
57:40
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
57:41
[SPEAKER_02]: And I just kind of like circled it.
57:42
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, where, or you know, I went to, it was open on the guy, right?
57:45
[SPEAKER_02]: I went to Atlanta, I was 74.
57:47
[SPEAKER_02]: When I first got to Miami, I was 92, because Rob was 90.
57:51
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, that's right as soon as he left us I before we got cold.
57:55
[SPEAKER_02]: I took it You already have you you go you want to buy it.
58:01
[SPEAKER_02]: I go buy it.
58:03
[SPEAKER_02]: No And then I want to use a Mario Williams had it.
58:07
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and Mario's like you want to buy my jersey of no
58:10
[SPEAKER_03]: It's giving a little time.
58:11
[SPEAKER_03]: It's going to be available a little bit of time.
58:12
[SPEAKER_03]: I'm okay.
58:13
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, exactly.
58:14
[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'll wait you out, Rob.
58:16
[SPEAKER_03]: You know Rob, he's a hustler, man.
58:17
[SPEAKER_05]: You know, we've got to go.
58:19
[SPEAKER_05]: You want that number.
58:20
[SPEAKER_05]: You want that number.
58:23
[SPEAKER_02]: We're in a birthday party of the New York, starting to go sidetracked with some sort of a Rob.
58:27
[SPEAKER_02]: We're a birthday party for a buddy of mine.
58:30
[SPEAKER_02]: You remember Robert, none of your coaching.
58:32
[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, so he was a surprise birthday party.
58:35
[SPEAKER_02]: It would use up to the giants, right?
58:37
[SPEAKER_02]: So I flew up for it and and Rob showed up in Jim baits.
58:40
[SPEAKER_02]: I've not had coach him.
58:42
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, God.
58:43
[SPEAKER_02]: So so they show up right and I was walking out of the party because I had to go to the airport to pick up a dog for somebody who's coming in from like, oh, you're a guy or something right.
58:53

1:02:10
[SPEAKER_05]: There have been occasional comparisons made to you and the Disney hero Buzz Lightyear.
1:02:17
[SPEAKER_05]: I want to know who came up with the nickname and how much do you hate it.
1:02:22
[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's either Buzz Lightyear or the, uh, Mr.
1:02:25
[SPEAKER_02]: Incredible goes into, so, but again, my legs are bigger than Mr.
1:02:30
[SPEAKER_02]: Incredible.
1:02:31
[SPEAKER_02]: Those are some peg legs.
1:02:33
[SPEAKER_05]: That's right.
1:02:33
[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not just a little bigger than that now.
1:02:35
[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
1:02:36
[SPEAKER_02]: It's cast.

1:03:10
[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Mr. America, I get once in a while, I love it.
1:03:13
[SPEAKER_03]: yeah yeah final question Jeff here we go some might say that the combo of you and Larry Chester in the same defense of my room may have been two of the grumpiest players in Miami Dolphin's history would you agree with that assessment and if there is a contest as to you know who's the most Henri of the group who would win?
1:03:32
[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, it was me by far.
1:03:33
[SPEAKER_02]: Larry, Larry is a little teddy bear now, you know, in the indie before I came to Miami.
1:03:40
[SPEAKER_02]: See, I knew Larry before I got there.

[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and I loved Larry.
1:03:48
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he was,
1:03:50
[SPEAKER_02]: He was a good dude, I think because he wasn't that big of a guy come out of college, you know, as a name and all that, but he built himself into a hell of a career, you know, got paid a good money for everything.
1:04:03
[SPEAKER_02]: I think he had a, put this persona on, like I'm just rough and tough guy, but he was like, he was a good dude, man.
1:04:10
[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it's salt to the earth, you know, just a good dude.

1:04:17
[SPEAKER_05]: I'm a great dude, that is the two-minute drill.
1:04:23
[SPEAKER_05]: He just Jeffs Canita and I agree with you in that sense in terms of the question that James asked, who's the most ordinary Larry was not that he was a fake tough guy because he was tough and he was strong and he was all of those things but he kind of created a caricature that he represented but then he also had his bag of
1:04:47
[SPEAKER_05]: Jeff would call me so I only worked with him for a year and then through the end of I guess right before camp in 04 and then I took the job with JT and like Jeff would call me say I'm going to Atlanta's JT said I need to fucking call you so give me a fucking number for I'm like damn Jeff you're calling for a favor and you're motherfucking me on the

[SPEAKER_05]: But it was, it was as you talked about some of these coaches that you dealt with.
1:05:10
[SPEAKER_05]: You know, you kind of learned not to take yourself too seriously, and there's actually really a hell of a guy there, and you are indeed a hell of a guy.
1:05:16
[SPEAKER_05]: And we appreciate you spending time with this man.
1:05:19
[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, anytime I got that, I had a blast, man.

1:05:27
[SPEAKER_01]: This is strictly for it.
1:05:28

1:05:31
[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
1:05:31
[SPEAKER_01]: This ain't all.
1:05:32
[SPEAKER_01]: And there's what's wrong.
1:05:33
[SPEAKER_01]: I've been that pitch tank.
1:05:39
[SPEAKER_01]: It's on the legend that we talk and we talk and we talk and we talk and we talk and we talk and we talk and we talk
