Latest / Guy Football Focus with Guy Haberman / 49ers-Dolphins Reactions, No One Would Dare Talk MVP After 2 Weeks... Oh Wait + NFL Week 2 Reactions
Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Guys, guy here, coming off of week two of the NFL season.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: Week two Sunday of the NFL season.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: And it is, it is all gonna come to a head this year for the 49ers.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: It is, it's either all coming together or there's gonna be a lot of arguments because there are some things that look
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly the way I thought they were going to look specifically with Brock party and I know if you say the word or the letters MVP after two weeks It sounds crazy and I'm not saying that he is the MVP But this whole thing is setting up now this year and The reason I'm comfortable talking about that after a game against the dolphins is because
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: it looks exactly the way I thought it was he looks exactly the way I thought he was going to look in training camp.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Evans, who will find out from that, you know, by the time you're watching this maybe it's already been reiterated with Kyle Shanahan said, after the game, they think's ever just fine.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Kyle Shanahan will talk around 330 Pacific on Monday, so we'll have a better idea by then.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_00]: Mike Evans is better.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: The defense, as I'm watching him, I'm going
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: there are some things that don't love going on in the run game on defense and yet as the game goes on they continue to improve and then the you know the purge the per rush averages for the opponent comes down even you know granted they're playing with the lead but I go you know it they're they're kind of working on it it's not they got to figure it out the interior defensive lines of problem but there are some key things and specifically perty
- 1:41[SPEAKER_00]: That looks the way I thought he was going to look, and it's why I have no problem talking about, yeah, I do think he's going to have the best year of his career, which is what I thought in training camp, and I know teammates and coaches, they're back their guy, they pump their guy up, Kyle Shanahan, Christian McCaffrey, Kyle used check, George Kittle, after the game, I might have been one other than I'm missing, Bosa maybe, Christians like I'm turning answered this question.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's not gonna he's not getting there.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_00]: He's there to me.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's been getting there watching him in training camp.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's there And he's gonna have every opportunity because here's the thing You just can't avoid Kansas City Sun that I football was a reminder you don't get to avoid the chiefs If all goes well you get to play them in the super bowl of so-fi stadium But who here hand in there?
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: thought that the cults were going to win that game now, the stretch.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, not me, it's not that I didn't think they'd win, it's that I knew they weren't going to win.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not just going to go to Kansas City this year, so you're practicing to get his chance.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: We got to get, there's a lot to get to from this game.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to thank the sponsors, of course.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_00]: It was the home opener, which means it was your first chance to go get the new Puesto
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: the new chicken, Variety Talk, the new short exclusive short rib barbecue tacos, the short rib wrapped in signature crispy cheese, the braised chicken, rolled in Puesto signature crispy cheese salsa, crude pickled onions, cilantro.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: the perfect guacamole section one sixteen on the concourse they're back again this week so plus those back on the show again this week because that others are back home again this week so when you go to Levi stadium go get the quest of the ad their brothers uh... huge nother fans big supporters of the show appreciate them thank you to plus toe and he caught them with their no and thank you to Volvo cars marin we are cruising around the family's love and are xc ninety madgarden his team at Volvo cars marin will treat you right if you're looking
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: You gotta go to Volvo Cars Marine.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: It is a low-pressure, very informative, very helpful.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: You're gonna love it.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: They're great to us, and they'll be great to you, so thanks, to Volvo Cars Marine.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: There are eight two-and-o-teams, and you might be thinking, that's not a lot.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's not a lot.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: You might be thinking, are they all really good?
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: So like, well, name them and you decide the chiefs, the bills, the bangles.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: The rate is, the Vikings, the C-Ox, the Eagles, the 49ers.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: And that is going to play the C-Ox twice.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_00]: And that is going to play the Raiders.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: And that is going to play the Chiefs.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: And that is going to play the Vikings.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: That is going to play the Eagles.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_00]: So this whole, like, canny or canty, will they or won't they?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: The reality is, you have to piece a player award.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's a team award.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: There are rare exceptions.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: The game with Seattle in three weeks is going to be critical.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: He has to play well against the C.Oxbrock party to really win an MVP because you have to win one of those games.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: And the reason you have to win one of those games is because you basically have to win the division.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: I know Stafford won it last year without winning the division, the MVP.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's an exception.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_00]: Payed Manning won it in 2008 without winning the division.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_00]: Steve McNair was the CoNVP in 2003 without winning the division, but he lost the AFC South tiebreaker to Peyton Manning's 12-in-4 Colts and Peyton shared the award with them.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's basically the list.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: So you don't get to not win the division and win the MVP and in this division you definitely don't get to not win the division and win the MVP and Seattle looks really good.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: They completely dismantled the cardinals.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_00]: And before you say like, oh, the 95 yards passing for Chicobe Percettis, not that good.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, and how about this that coming into the week?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: Chicobe Percett thrown for the most yards in the NFL going back to week six of 2025.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: JSN had 9 for 155 and 3 touchdowns with Drew Lock, like those dudes are dialed.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: So that C-Ox game is going to be huge.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: Denver is coming up.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: They're not undefeated, but they played well on Sunday and beat the jacks.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: They play in a ton of close games.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about close games.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_00]: That's where envy prime time games, close games against premium teams.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: Well, now I was going to play a ton of
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: premium teams.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: Denver had 11 you may remember the staff from last year had 11 one score wins last year.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: They had a dozen.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't come back last year, and they came back and beat the jacks that I would want more regular season games around than any team at League 9.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_00]: So, there is plenty of opportunity ahead, and the good news is that so far, regardless of opponent, whether it's the Rams were supposed to be really good, and the Dolphins who are not supposed to be good at all, Brock's look the same.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: And this is kind of the theme of the last two months.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Do you look the way in games that you look in training camp?
- 6:54[SPEAKER_00]: After all the talk about, I don't know about K-Long Black, this draft pick's kind of weird.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: I was pretty high, and the same thing on Stribling, after one or two training camp practices to watch those guys, all that went out the window.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: If anyone would watch it, went out the window.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now most people don't get to watch him in training camp.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: So they do wait for the preseason.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then the preseason rolled around and everybody else watched the preseason on TV and they went, oh, those deers are good.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_00]: And what if I keep saying, to me, that's the barometer.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: to you look the same at every level.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_00]: How do you hit in single eye?
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: How do you hit in double eye?
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: You just look the same in triple eye.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: We say this, Buster Posey, some of you, I'm old enough to remember when he was a player.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: And he just looked the same.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: I watched him, I watched him in triple eye called his games, and then I watched him go to the big leagues.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, that's the same.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_00]: He played the same, same.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's what Real Pro's do, and Brock parted into me this training camp.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: It was just so clear he was taking a step.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_00]: I was listening to the post game show after calling the game that I on radio with Tim Ryan driving home, and I heard Larry Kruger on the post game show, and he said, he used to phrase, I like he said, Brock's in his super prime.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's in his super-prime.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't that something he's not gonna make mistakes?
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: Doesn't mean he's not, but the deal is not can you avoid mistakes completely?
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's can you recover from them?
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: And this thing that Kyle Shanahan talked about, he noticed in camp and it was what Brock said he and Mick Lombardi worked on in the offseason, which is can you up your aggressiveness
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: but reduce the mistakes.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: Basically, can you be smarter and more aggressive?
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's easier to be like smarter and more conservative, right?
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Student driver, please be patient.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just gonna sit over here in the right lane.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Never gonna get an accident.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, you're not gonna get an accident, but you're not winning any races either.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know,
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: getting for me to be in your car, I guess it's not a race.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's fine.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: But this is a race.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is a competition.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: You don't just get to stay in the right lane.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: You have to get into the left lane sometimes and not the left lane in the Bay Area where everybody's driving 68 or 70.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: The hell are we doing?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: Move out of the way.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: If you made a Bay Area highway 16 lanes wide, there'd be some dude doing 68 in the left lane.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Like what are we doing?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care that anybody can drive a stick shift.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: I care that nobody knows how to drive in the left lane in this state.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_00]: Go to the Midwest, they got two lanes.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: Each way, no one's in the left one.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's not that complicated, but Brock has looked the same now through two games.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: And I've seen enough, not that he's gonna win the end.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen enough to confirm when I believed about him which he's taken a step this year.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: And now he's going to get chances just like Dejan Stripling and Calon Black that when the, when the preseason started to prove it, we didn't get a chance to see Dejan Stripling proven week one, unfortunately.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a problem too, which we'll get to the receivers.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_00]: But you get the Kansas City chance on, Brocks, you know, the weekend after Christmas, Brocks birthday, the, the Raider, we've got for the Raiders.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: And you got to score some of these games.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: You have to score against Kansas City.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: You either way, they're running the ball.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: You have to score against Seattle.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be really hard.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: You really want to get to this Denver game 3-0, and you really want to get to this Seattle game at 4-0.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: I would make you feel, okay, because they looked damn good.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Since 1990, teams that start 2-0 make the playoff 64% of the time, okay.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Teams that start 3-0, make the playoff 70% of the time.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: And when the division 50% of the time, now, you know, the Niners could beat Arizona next week.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, that's no foregone conclusion.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: But they could beat Arizona next week and be 3-0.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_00]: And who does Seattle play next week?
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: Seattle, week three is at the Commanders, Desperate Commanders, oh, and two, and oh, and two in their division, because they've lost two divisional games.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: So that both teams could be three and all.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, all right, 50-50 it's between the riders and the C-Ox divisions on the one week, five.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: So you go three and all, 75% chance of making the playoffs, 50% chance of winning.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: You go four and all historically, 1990, teams to go four and all go to the playoffs, 85% of the time.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: And when they're division, 65% of the time.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, you've probably heard a lot of these stats.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: First time the knives have ever won back to back, games by 20 points of more to open the season.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: Sixth, sixth, well, let me put not six straight year.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: The last five years and nine has started to know they've made the playoffs.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: I'm making the playoffs isn't the standard here.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I think part of the reason we can talk about this ceiling, a big reason, actually the biggest reason we can talk about this ceiling this year with Brock Perti.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just Kyle, it's not just McAfrey, it's not just his age and his prime, it's Mike Evans.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: It's Mike Evans.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: I was asked on the pre-game show today on Sunday.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: by Adam Copeland, who does the pre-game show on radio.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: He said, what's your, you know, like, what's been your biggest surprise from training camp to the season?
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought this was a little off the wall.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: I said, how good Mike Evans is a look.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't think, I don't know, maybe some people are surprised.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it would take, even Kyle said, multiple times, he thought it would take, said, like, take a little, you know, they're getting on the same page, take some time.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Brock and Mike Evans, like they just missed each other, not all,
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: wasn't commonplace but enough to notice they didn't connect it's like just out of his reach or just in the in training camp practices.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: These guys are on the same page.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: What what rockets suddenly on the same page with everybody you notice that.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: The quarterbacks on the same page with the Marcus Robinson.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: He's on the same page with George Kittle.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's on the same page with youth check.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: He's on the same page with Mike Evans.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: On the same page with Chris McKee.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: He's just on the same table.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's just on the same page.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: What do I?
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe it's because he's dialed in.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: There was something very interesting said in the post game.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle use check and George Kittle did their post game together because, by the way, I think this team kind of senses something too.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: They haven't a very good time.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: It's only been two weeks and I'll tell you what, I feel I feel that it's been two weeks but they feel like they've proven, I don't know what they feel like.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they've proven more than two weeks of football.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: Give it all the adversity and training camp.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: the way they looked in Australia, that trip, that game coming back, beaten the dolphins.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_00]: I've said it a few times, it sees and feels like it's been more than two weeks.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, use chicken kittle are doing the press conference together and juice interrupts kittle to the talking about Brock, you know, because Brock had two incompletions today, and one was basically like a throw away that maybe there should have been a
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: P.I.on and instead there was a grounding on the other was a drop and he had 18 straight completions and then I was records 22, Joe Montana, 1987, I think that's what they had on TV.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: So juice says, you know, you think about him is he's making some pretty incredible decisions.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: He said, the democracy's Robinson touchdown, I'll play that, DeMarcus will tell you, he didn't expect to get the ball on, he said, DeMarcus isn't alert on that play.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: And he's not one of the routes in the progression, he said alert on that play, you never throw the alert and then Kittles said, well, where the alert, the two of us tend to be the alert in a lot of plays and so we're, you know, I'm kind of happy about that.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so I texted that.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm happy about it because he's thrown into the alerts.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I texted that video to, I would say one of the smarter, a college-wipple analyst who I work with, a really smart guy named Alex Brink.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: And Alex is interesting because not only was he a prolific college quarterback and works coaches college guys now.
- 15:17[SPEAKER_00]: He was drafted or signed with the Texans at a college when Kyle Shanahan was there and I've talked to him a lot.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: I was just talking to him this weekend about his time with Kyle Shanahan and he was just he was giving me all this background on straight drops and the evolution of the league and what Kyle hated before and he likes now which Kyle talked about the other day like he was going through the whole thing.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: He is dialed.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I'll tell you what he said, basically alert just means that there's like a 1 in 1,000 coverage or a look where you might throw it, but it basically never happens because usually even in that situation, you still throw it out of the routes.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: So these guys are just amazed that Brock had the confidence in understanding to throw it to the alert in that look.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: He is, I'm not going to say, I mean, he's 26.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not going to say is at the top of the self-actualization pyramid where you are just like fully, you know, that's what the monks are working towards.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to say that.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: But it kind of feels like he is the master of his domain right now.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: And it just opens everything up.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_00]: It opens everything up for him.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: It opens everything up for everybody else.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: And it's why is this receiver stuff a problem?
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, this receiver stuff is a problem.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: The injuries.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like when we talked about it this week, I said, the day John's dribbling injury, it hurts the most, because I think day John's gonna be sweet.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: And they have a rookie miss this much time.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: It just, it feels like it, since the development, and I was just excited to see him, right, it's a fan of football and a fan of the guy.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_00]: I was excited to see day John's dribbling.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: But Evans, Debo,
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: You still throw it to kid a lot, even though he's not a quote unquote receiver and the same with Christian and then to Marcus Robinson proving to be really valuable.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: That is enough to be prolific.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's enough as long as somebody else doesn't get hurt.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: And as Tim Kawakami says all the time on his podcast, somebody else's going to get hurt.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that somebody else's going to get hurt was the Marcus Robinson today.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: The lack of depth is now a thing.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: There is a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a, a,
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: the good news is you still got those other guys, but you're even thinner.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: And as I said, Calcinian schedule to talk around 330 on Monday, he does, you know, that's what you guys see a lot of news comes out on Monday and they have to do a lot of quotes from God, because he does a phone like a conference call with the media local media.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: So he guest high ankle sprain on Sunday for the Marcus Robinson, which, you know, I guess is better than Achilles, but it's not good.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: The, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's a problem because he's good.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: But the Mike Efforts thing, like it just feels like as long as these other guys, and the way Kittle broke out today in the second half, you could just feel a coming, you felt it coming.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_00]: And Kittle was not, the Eplay was not necessarily intended for him to start the second half, but you just felt like you coming out of locker room George got to get involved, and he did.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_00]: So, two things are true at the same time, right?
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: This isn't a this but this, it's a this and this.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: The democracy's Robinson injuries are major blow.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: In a weird way, almost a bigger blow than the dribbling was, because the dribbling one, you had democracy Robinson is the safety net.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you don't have the safety net.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: If the democracy Robinson estimates extended time.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_00]: And people will tell you this week.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Christian Kirk's a couple weeks away.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: I, you can't pick on that.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: But, so Demarchus Robertson's a big blow, and this offense can still be prolific.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'll say it again.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of like last week.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they still got enough.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: As long as they don't lose another guy.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: Three receivers to basically, I know this dribbling wasn't technically non-contact.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: He got pushed down.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_00]: But it was like a weird way to have an ankle injury.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like got hit in the leg.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, you lost two or the three to definitely non-contacts.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Pierce thought was the season.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, I thought it was really interesting.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_00]: I said last week, I thought McCaffrey was going to get tested now.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: Just like, how is he going to respond to K-lon black having more carries than him?
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of you, I got a lot of comments.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: So no, no, no, that was only because of cramps, which I don't believe that didn't believe that.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: Don't believe that.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: And Kyle Shanahan basically said this week or Clay Kubey, I basically said during the week, like he didn't say it wasn't cramps.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: He used to, no, the plan was to get came on black and forth.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now, the plan was not to get came on black more carries.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think they went in, the plan was like, get came on involved a lot, week one.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then after the game, they were like, oh, we got Christians earned a little more than that.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: And so today was, let's take it back the other way.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_00]: Let's take it back the other way, you know, Christian heavy, heavy in favor of Christian.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, do I have the snap counts yet?
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: I do have the snap counts.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: Christian had 52 Kailon Blackhead 33, but you know, I've got to get a garbage time update on that, but, no, that's a percentage, sorry.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: 27 and kill him black at 17 but you know I would bet like when the game was still Christians the gap was even was even bigger so that so Christian at 52% of the offensive snaps kill him black at 33% of the offensive snaps like that was a correction for your Hall of Famer like yeah we want to get Kail on involved more we intended to get him involved more it wasn't really because
- 21:31[SPEAKER_00]: he can't get more carries than Christian.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is where Kyle Shanahan, when I say he's so much more than excellent play caller, he's a head coach.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think he is properly rated as a play caller, and because of it, like people say the play caller thing, not as a backhand accomplishment, but it's like, yeah, but is he really a complete head coach?
- 21:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm adamant that, yes, he is a complete head coach.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: And part of it is understanding,
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: how to treat, how to treat guys, how to push them, how to make them at their best, and also like we can't have K-Long Black have more carries than Christian McAfrey.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: And people are going to say, cramps, no cramps, we can't have, that's not the way to start this season for Christian.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to get some rest, and K-Long is going to get his, and hopefully it pays off in the long run, but K-Long is not getting more.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: And like red zone, like let's just go a line, like let's make your Christians in there.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I know Kyle doesn't pay attention to whether it's 100 touchdowns for Christian, 600 points on 100 touchdowns for Christian.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: So how about use checks go on the touchdown, which basically look like the first career touchdown or Brock's career.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: That was cool.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: Guy, what's your biggest concern about the team?
- 22:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's still interior defense.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's still the interior defense.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_00]: They got pushed around a little bit early, CJ West played at Grayson Holtton.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: He just flashes.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't reviewed the tape.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how many percentage of reps he won, but he makes plays.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Ramello Heights got a sack today.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't, I thought.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Malik Willis got back to the long-term scrimmage regardless.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'll watch the old 22 again, but it hasn't felt like flash.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like Grayson Holtin is just like pop made some flashes, right?
- 23:23[SPEAKER_00]: How do you, let's see, Jaden Dugger feel like he played less today.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: 31% of the snaps on on defense today.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because it was they just played with the Defe Renardo played 100% of the snaps down over 95% up to stout 58% Seagull.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: Well, let's see go 100% child brown 95% Ramella, I played 54% of the snaps
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: Bosa played 68% of the snaps that he said he felt like his knee felt like himself again today, which was great.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, Denver's here in two weeks, they looked better this week.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I, from what I saw, I'll have to watch that game, in the battle of Mike McDonald's defense and Michael Flores offense, Mike McDonald's defense was, was the clear winner, how about this that go to the Monday football?
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: the giants won last week on Sunday night football against Dallas, even with that win in the last 10 years, they are the worst prime time team in the NFL, and we got them on prime time a lot.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: In the last 10, in the last decade, they are 6 and 26 in prime time.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: So what's that?
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: 26 plus 632?
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: So we get them over three times a year in prime time and they're the worst prime time team in the NFL.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, of course, we get them three times a year.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna get them twice in the first two weeks.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: So you gotta figure the Rams are gonna are going to win that game.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: You gotta figure the Rams are gonna win that game.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: That it would be insane red alert if the Rams don't win that game.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll be locked in, we'll be watching on that.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_00]: So, what's the takeaway to me?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: This week, takeaway is, yeah, that all depends aren't great, that are a bit bad.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: Youngest team of the league.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, here's one other one for you.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: And this is where Kansas City is just like, God, they're scary.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: Most rookies on active roster in the NFL 13, Miami number two is Kansas City 12.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: The chiefs have the second most rookies on the active roster in the NFL.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_00]: Only Miami is more.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: And Miami's tanking, I mean, rebuilding.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: The chief, this is the, they already did this once where they like had a bunch of young guys.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: That was the 23 championship.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: They had a bunch of second year dudes and rookies that contributed.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: And that trying to do it again.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: But this is what it takes.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: This is how you become great.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_00]: This is how you win MVP.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: This is how you gotta go through those guys.
- 26:19[SPEAKER_00]: Or maybe you gotta go through the bangles.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have to go through the charges.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, here's the other thing about the charges.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody, everybody is going to rightfully and understandably pale on the charges.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_00]: They play the bills this week.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_00]: in Buffalo.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's a problem.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I have my prediction is it looks a lot better as a season goes on with Herbert and McDaniel.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: Enough to save the year.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_00]: That I don't know.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: You start only three.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's not enough to save the year probably.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: But I would not be surprised if those
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: and it doesn't look as bad as it looks now.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_00]: And people start coming back, auto at least Herbert later.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_00]: I know this is everybody is piling on right now.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I get it, I'm not here to defend it because, but just a look ahead, Titans almost be the Eagles in the, the Eagles same deal.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: I see the Eagles play these games and they were not losing this game.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_00]: And sure enough they didn't lose that game anything else next week is early read on I mean the rams go to the Broncos On Sunday night football.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: So the rams go Monday night football giants then they go to the Broncos Sunday night.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's you know I would rather played the day at home then go Monday night football at home like the rams
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: between the tires and the ranch come back from Australia, and then go Broncos, Sun and I football the next week.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_00]: I would have rather done it this way.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: Honestly, I know people like you need the Rams, now that we've experienced it, the whole like, well the Rams got Monday and I football, and the Niners had to play one day sooner.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's fine.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'd rather play the Dolphins on Sunday and have a normal week to start week three, than be like the Rams and have the first two and have just all your weeks all messed up.
- 28:16[SPEAKER_00]: And then you got a Monday short, but it's a Sunday night.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: No, thank you.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: You
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: got back eight yet eight days arrest since you got back from Australia.
- 28:24[SPEAKER_00]: You didn't need Sunday off to before the Monday night game.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think I can say confidently now and maybe the Rams win by a hundred tomorrow.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't matter though.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: I would rather have the way the Niners schedule played out coming back from Australia just in this week period.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_00]: I know that honors didn't want three straight home games than the road games later, but you know what?
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: No, start 4-0.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then you're not complaining about the fact that you played three straight home games.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: go to Seattle and see what happens and no later in the year like we're going to be away from home.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_00]: But take advantage of it.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_00]: Don't complain about it.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_00]: Take advantage of it.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: And build it up and be a 4-0 team and 85% of the time you start 4-0 you go to the playoffs and you win you to the vision 65% of the time.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: And stay healthy for the love of God.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm at no.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, by the way, somebody may notice the new podcast out on the 49ers YouTube channel, the 49ers guy, that's what they're calling me over there, but it's fun and I hope you will go check it.
