A historic marker honoring George Lawrence Mabson, North Carolina’s first African American lawyer, will be unveiled August 15th in Wilmington. Born in 1845, Mabson served in the Union Army, graduated from Howard Law in 1871, and became a trailblazer in state politics—serving in the House, Senate, and the 1875 Constitutional Convention.
