- 0:00Speaker 1: Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with
- 0:02Speaker 1: Balanced Life Chiropractic. Hello, doctor Harley, how you doing?
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hey John, I'm doing great.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I'm excited to chat today. We're gonna talk about extremities,
- 0:08Speaker 1: which that's again not a word that I usually use.
- 0:11Speaker 1: But you were talking about adjusting my knee, and then
- 0:14Speaker 1: you said, have we ever talked about extremities? Right, this
- 0:17Speaker 1: is my first extremities conversation.
- 0:19Speaker 2: We've been using some fancy words lately.
- 0:21Speaker 1: I know I'm learning stuff, but you know, it's.
- 0:23Speaker 2: All good things.
- 0:24Speaker 3: You probably hear that in you know, a radio ad
- 0:27Speaker 3: or a commercial, or you're like, what is that? When
- 0:30Speaker 3: we're talking about extremities, we're talking about your arms and
- 0:32Speaker 3: your legs.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Yes, so your your knees, your elbows, your you know
- 0:36Speaker 1: those the falangies, your little fingers. Is that the right word?
- 0:39Speaker 2: Flanges? Is there?
- 0:41Speaker 1: She looked very impressed when I said falanges. Would toes
- 0:44Speaker 1: also be flangies?
- 0:45Speaker 2: They are there?
- 0:46Speaker 1: You go? So those are you like? Your your your
- 0:49Speaker 1: foot fingers? Are your toes? Your flangies? But let's talk
- 0:53Speaker 1: about the extremities, which which extremity gets the most attention
- 0:56Speaker 1: at a chiropractic office, because like, you adjusted my knee.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Is that kind of the common thing or is it
- 1:01Speaker 1: elbows or shoulders or fingers.
- 1:03Speaker 2: That's a good question. I haven't really thought about that.
- 1:05Speaker 3: If there's a particular joint like outside the spine that
- 1:09Speaker 3: I adjust more.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I mean, knees are pretty common. I do adjustknees quite
- 1:12Speaker 2: a bit.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And this is not the first time you've adjusted my knee.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And this one is because I slept wrong, right, I
- 1:18Speaker 1: seriously didn't do any I woke up this morning and
- 1:20Speaker 1: I'm like, why is my right knee hurt?
- 1:22Speaker 3: And it might have been something you did the day before,
- 1:24Speaker 3: like probably you step funny, you're twisted funny.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And then you know he was trying to outrun hideast
- 1:28Speaker 1: to get out of her reach so she couldn't smack me.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Not best, it's probably what it was. But I'm just
- 1:32Speaker 1: I only say that because she's sitting right.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Behind me, so she's always listening.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I just want to make sure people know that's why
- 1:38Speaker 1: I'm saying it, because she's right here. But no, this
- 1:41Speaker 1: is one of those things that when you've done it
- 1:43Speaker 1: in the past. I one time, I like twisted my
- 1:46Speaker 1: whole leg and then my knee was kind of jacked up,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and when I came in, you were able to adjust
- 1:50Speaker 1: my knee and then it got better, like right away.
- 1:52Speaker 1: So that's is that pretty common?
- 1:54Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:55Speaker 3: I mean, just like all the joints in our body,
- 1:56Speaker 3: they can get out of alignment, and that alignment's very
- 1:59Speaker 3: important because that's how they're supposed to move, that's how
- 2:01Speaker 3: they're designed to move. They have the proper cushionings for
- 2:04Speaker 3: the way they're supposed to be, so when they get
- 2:06Speaker 3: shifted out of alignment, it's going to affect how that
- 2:09Speaker 3: joint's moving. It's gonna affect all the muscles around that joint.
- 2:12Speaker 3: So then you know, we could adjust your knee and
- 2:13Speaker 3: they're like, well, my leg muscles have been starting her well, yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 3: they've been compensating for that knee being out of alignment.
- 2:19Speaker 3: So now we put it back where it's supposed to be.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Your muscles are like, whoa, we just got used to
- 2:23Speaker 3: this new location. Now you're going back to this one.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You know, change is kind of hard, and when we
- 2:27Speaker 3: get used to it, it makes it harder to go
- 2:30Speaker 3: back to how it's supposed to be.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Absolutely made me think of karate kid. Mister Miyagi. He
- 2:34Speaker 1: smacked his hands together and rubbed them really hard, and
- 2:37Speaker 1: then he adjusted. I think it was Daniel's knee.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Do you ever do that? No? Sorry, no, that's okay.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So in addition to nies, how about elbows? Is that
- 2:49Speaker 1: something where you're like some they can mess up their elbow?
- 2:51Speaker 3: Yeah, you can. We work on a lot of elbows.
- 2:53Speaker 3: It could be from a sports injury. It could be
- 2:55Speaker 3: from sitting at a desk, you know, because your elbows
- 2:56Speaker 3: are bent all day, they get sort of picking something.
- 3:00Speaker 2: We just wrists, shoulders, ankles.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Heads, shoulders, knees, and toes.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Yeah, all of it.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Adjusted toes, fingers.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Anytime a joint goes out of alignment, and we can
- 3:10Speaker 3: work to put it back in its proper alignment.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And sometimes people probably don't even realize that's what it
- 3:15Speaker 1: is because they're like, I'm stiff and I'm sore, and
- 3:17Speaker 1: I've got this problem, but they didn't realize that that's
- 3:19Speaker 1: where the problem was, because sometimes the pain shows up
- 3:21Speaker 1: and into a different place, doesn't.
- 3:22Speaker 3: It right, You know, your knee problem could actually be
- 3:25Speaker 3: causing your hip issue, or your hip issue could be
- 3:27Speaker 3: causing your knee problem, because you know that they're weight bearing.
- 3:31Speaker 3: They're load bearing, and as you're walking, that's going to
- 3:33Speaker 3: affect your git. So that could be something as simple
- 3:35Speaker 3: as we need to put your knee back in alignment
- 3:37Speaker 3: and that will help with your low back pain.
- 3:39Speaker 1: And we recently traveled, so being squished into an airplane
- 3:42Speaker 1: probably doesn't help, doesn't definitely.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I know my knees and upper neck are always in
- 3:47Speaker 3: a funk after flying.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And we were in Las Vegas. We walked nine thousand miles.
- 3:51Speaker 1: That's a thing, you know, my pedometer set.
- 3:53Speaker 3: So that could be a little bit, you know, just
- 3:54Speaker 3: like the overused because we don't.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Walk that much.
- 3:56Speaker 3: We do not walk much in our normal life, but
- 3:58Speaker 3: then we travel, we tend to walk a lot.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Every room we had was at the end of the hall,
- 4:03Speaker 1: and it was like we had to walk a long
- 4:06Speaker 1: ways for everything. But when when you're doing that, when
- 4:08Speaker 1: you're you know, walking a whole lot, or in my situation,
- 4:13Speaker 1: probably being scrunched into the seat, how long does it
- 4:15Speaker 1: usually take for people to realize there's an issue, Like
- 4:18Speaker 1: I noticed mine on Monday, but I was having pain
- 4:22Speaker 1: probably from stuff that happened over the weekend.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Is that kind of common, you know, that's a good
- 4:25Speaker 3: question that it's I think it's hard to pinpoint exactly
- 4:28Speaker 3: how long it would take for someone to know. Some
- 4:30Speaker 3: people are very in tune with their body, so they
- 4:32Speaker 3: noticed those slight shifts or changes really quickly, and other
- 4:35Speaker 3: people are like, oh, my knee's a little sort, it's fine,
- 4:37Speaker 3: I'll deal with it later. We ignore those things. It's
- 4:39Speaker 3: not so bad yet, and then you know, a couple
- 4:42Speaker 3: months later, like, wow, my knee is really hurting.
- 4:44Speaker 2: What did I do? I didn't do And I'll ask them,
- 4:46Speaker 2: so anything new lately?
- 4:47Speaker 3: No, nothing really, And maybe it was something months ago
- 4:50Speaker 3: that they forgot about.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I played racketball once. That was in third grade, though,
- 4:54Speaker 1: So is that.
- 4:55Speaker 3: I mean, if you had a serious injury in third
- 4:58Speaker 3: grade that twisted your knee up and and you know
- 5:00Speaker 3: affected it all these years later. I mean, I have
- 5:02Speaker 3: a lot of sports injuries from basketball with my knees
- 5:05Speaker 3: that you know. Now. I don't play basketball, but I
- 5:07Speaker 3: still will have knee problems because of injuring myself in
- 5:11Speaker 3: high school.
- 5:11Speaker 1: There you go, And we should probably listen to our
- 5:13Speaker 1: bodies more often, shouldn't we.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Definitely they tell us a lot of things if we
- 5:17Speaker 3: pay attention.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So if you got something that's a little bit of
- 5:20Speaker 1: an inconvenience right now, if you listen to it, you
- 5:22Speaker 1: might be able to get ahead of it and doctor
- 5:23Speaker 1: Harley can help you get that adjusted before it becomes
- 5:26Speaker 1: a big problem. And so what is that like to
- 5:28Speaker 1: make an appointment with Balance Life Chiropractic. Do when I call?
- 5:31Speaker 1: Do I say hey, I got a problem with my knee?
- 5:33Speaker 1: Or do I just call and say hey, I want
- 5:34Speaker 1: to I want to have you help me out.
- 5:36Speaker 3: You know, every person kind of has a different approach
- 5:38Speaker 3: to it. I have some people that they call and
- 5:40Speaker 3: they want to kind of talk about the issue that's
- 5:42Speaker 3: going on, and that's totally fine. Or they're like, hey,
- 5:44Speaker 3: what's your schedule? Good?
- 5:45Speaker 2: Can I get something on the books? And I have
- 5:47Speaker 2: no idea what's going on with them?
- 5:48Speaker 3: You know, we're going to get We're going to get
- 5:50Speaker 3: to it at the end of the day when they
- 5:51Speaker 3: come in for that new patient appointment, we're going to
- 5:53Speaker 3: sit down to a consultation with them. So I don't
- 5:56Speaker 3: need to know the whole life story before you schedule.
