- 2:04Speaker 3: to be a blast tonight, buddy. Thanks for being the
- 2:07Speaker 3: guest co-host. Long time in the making. Let's have a
- 2:11Speaker 3: blast tonight.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I'm excited to be here, yeah. It's going to be
- 2:14Speaker 2: one fun show and a lot to talk about when
- 2:17Speaker 2: you sent in the topics for tonight. It's been a
- 2:21Speaker 2: wild week in the OHL and across the hockey world,
- 2:23Speaker 2: so I guess it's a good time to have me on.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Yeah, you know what? It's going to be a fun one.
- 2:29Speaker 3: There's a lot that happened in the OHL. There's a
- 2:31Speaker 3: lot that happened at the junior landscape. I mean, there's
- 2:33Speaker 3: been a lot that's happened in the junior landscape for
- 2:35Speaker 3: what the last two seasons have been like two years
- 2:38Speaker 3: in one with all the stuff that goes on behind
- 2:41Speaker 3: the scenes. And we'll get right to it. The big fish.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Nikita Klepov getting sent back from the Anaheim Ducks. He
- 2:48Speaker 3: has zero points in four games with the Ducks this season.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Big return for Saginaw, Joel. What do you think? I mean,
- 2:57Speaker 3: that's huge.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I think the rich get richer. Steve Majilkin, Brady Wasslin.
- 3:03Speaker 2: Now you've got Klepov. Watch out from an offensive standpoint
- 3:07Speaker 2: with that hockey club. And like you mentioned, Klepov, the
- 3:12Speaker 2: limited action he got in the NHL, well-limited. it's going
- 3:16Speaker 2: to pay dividends. Being in those rooms, being in those practices,
- 3:21Speaker 2: he's going to come back to Saginaw with a new perspective.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And as dominant as he was last year, he's going
- 3:27Speaker 2: to be even more this year.
- 3:28Speaker 3: And Joel, we'll touch on it right away. You spent
- 3:30Speaker 3: time with the Belleville Senators, now with the Trenton Golden Hawks.
- 3:33Speaker 3: And you know all about the professional landscape. And every
- 3:36Speaker 3: scout that I talk to around the arena in Brantford
- 3:38Speaker 3: or wherever the Bulldogs are, for me personally, it feels
- 3:41Speaker 3: like whenever I have a conversation with somebody, it's the
- 3:46Speaker 3: difference between pros and junior is huge. You got guys
- 3:50Speaker 3: playing for keeps. You spent time with Belleville. And I mean,
- 3:53Speaker 3: the AHL, for example, you see some of the new
- 3:56Speaker 3: rule there with these guys playing eligible for the AHL.
- 3:59Speaker 3: You got guys playing for keeps. They're playing check to
- 4:01Speaker 3: check just to survive. And it's not like here in
- 4:05Speaker 3: the OHL where, hey, it's for the future. It's for
- 4:08Speaker 3: the development side of things. So for that point, I
- 4:12Speaker 3: know there's been a few people that said to me, well,
- 4:14Speaker 3: why can't he just go to the AHL? It's hard
- 4:16Speaker 3: to do. Why do you think this is the best
- 4:19Speaker 3: for his development coming back to the OHL?
- 4:23Speaker 2: I think it's going to allow him to play true
- 4:26Speaker 2: top six minutes in every situation. It's going to let
- 4:30Speaker 2: him get his confidence up. It's going to allow him
- 4:32Speaker 2: to score at a clip that he's expected to score at.
- 4:35Speaker 2: It's hard when you come down and, you know, you're
- 4:38Speaker 2: always the guy that's called on to, you know, jump
- 4:41Speaker 2: over the boards for the power play.
- 4:42Speaker 3: You need a goal.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Last minute, you're out there. In the AHL, as an
- 4:46Speaker 2: 18-year-old kid, that's not the reality of it most nights.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And I think to let him go back to Saginaw,
- 4:53Speaker 2: play in a system he's comfortable in, let him get
- 4:56Speaker 2: that confidence with the offensive side of the game, I
- 5:00Speaker 2: think it pays dividends down the road. And I was
- 5:03Speaker 2: so fortunate to see Drake Bathurst and Josh Norris play
- 5:06Speaker 2: for Troy Mann in Belleville. And those guys are special
- 5:10Speaker 2: hockey players. but they weren't 18 years old when they
- 5:12Speaker 2: jumped into the American hockey league. And it's a different game.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And it's like you mentioned, the amount of pressure, the
- 5:21Speaker 2: amount of space and time that gets taken away at, at,
- 5:25Speaker 2: at that, at that level is just.
- 5:28Speaker 4: It's just impressive to see how tightly contested those hockey
- 5:34Speaker 4: games are not to say in the OHL, they aren't,
- 5:36Speaker 4: but a guy like Klepov can, you can have that
- 5:39Speaker 4: little bit extra time, that little bit of extra, okay,
- 5:42Speaker 4: make that dipsy do play.
- 5:43Speaker 2: And in the long run, it's not a bad thing
- 5:46Speaker 2: to take some time with a player so highly sought
- 5:49Speaker 2: after and let him really develop his game.
- 5:52Speaker 3: And Joel, we saw this with Beckett Seneca. I mean,
- 5:54Speaker 3: the Ducks and that organization should know all about that, right? Like,
- 5:58Speaker 3: they should know all about, like, with Beckett's development and
- 6:02Speaker 3: how much of a factor, I mean, that postseason run,
- 6:04Speaker 3: that series against Edmonton, how good Beckett Seneca was.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I mean.
- 6:08Speaker 3: we know, we know all about these guys, these kids
- 6:10Speaker 3: coming in and it's not a bad thing. And it'll
- 6:12Speaker 3: be interesting to see with, uh, Nikita, how he comes back,
- 6:16Speaker 3: you know, the maturity level. Sometimes you see guys come
- 6:18Speaker 3: back and they take penalties, you know, they're at the
- 6:20Speaker 3: pro level and all of a sudden they're back in
- 6:23Speaker 3: the small pond, right? And they're the big fish and
- 6:26Speaker 3: you expect things to go a little easier for you
- 6:28Speaker 3: and it doesn't go. It'll be interesting to see what
- 6:30Speaker 3: it ha what happens when he comes back. It's expected
- 6:32Speaker 3: that he will play this weekend for the spirit. Um,
- 6:36Speaker 3: And like I said, you hope that they have that
- 6:41Speaker 3: experience factor with Beckett Seneca going back to Oshawa and
- 6:44Speaker 3: how much value that proved for him. And another thing is, too,
- 6:47Speaker 3: the AHL at 18 years old is a tough league.
- 6:52Speaker 3: I mean, you look at Brady Martin with his development
- 6:54Speaker 3: path right now with Nashville's farm team, right? It's kind
- 6:59Speaker 3: of like controlled schedule. He's not playing regularly. It's just
- 7:03Speaker 3: going to be a controlled schedule. And if you're not, like,
- 7:07Speaker 3: the way, what really bugs me is, too, and you
- 7:09Speaker 3: get these comments around the arena about guys in the AHL,
- 7:12Speaker 3: it's like, oh, they're in the AHL, and people kind
- 7:15Speaker 3: of look down on it, but you know what's interesting
- 7:17Speaker 3: to me is when you get these quote-unquote superstars, and
- 7:21Speaker 3: all of a sudden, okay, we're going to send them
- 7:23Speaker 3: down to the AHL, they're going to play on the
- 7:25Speaker 3: third or fourth line, Joel, and all of a sudden,
- 7:27Speaker 3: they got to kill penalties. Well, they haven't killed a
- 7:30Speaker 3: penalty in three years since Minor Midget, or U16 year, right, like,
- 7:35Speaker 3: some guys will some guys will but like you know
- 7:38Speaker 3: like it's not their game and you can only have
- 7:41Speaker 3: so many top six players and i think for i
- 7:44Speaker 3: think for saginaw for anaheim this is a huge move
- 7:48Speaker 3: uh i i mean you look at that top line
- 7:50Speaker 3: in saginaw right you're gonna have waslin who has 25
- 7:52Speaker 3: points in 16 games you're gonna have dima zhilkin who
- 7:55Speaker 3: i think is going to be the top player taken
- 7:56Speaker 3: out of the ohl this year's nhl draft 25 points
- 8:00Speaker 3: in 16 games for those two and then you add
- 8:02Speaker 3: the last year's top score into the mix I mean,
- 8:05Speaker 3: it's got to be fun. They also they have secondary scoring, too, Joel.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Yeah, they do. And I think that's the thing. And
- 8:12Speaker 2: it's the old adage, right? It's the superstar effect. It
- 8:16Speaker 2: just makes everyone so much better, so much deeper. And
- 8:21Speaker 2: like you mentioned with Dimas Jokin, he's got to be
- 8:22Speaker 2: the happiest guy in the world as he continues his
- 8:25Speaker 2: draft year here. Like you said, he's going to be,
- 8:28Speaker 2: if not the first, one of the top three guys
- 8:31Speaker 2: taken out of the OHL this year. And he just
- 8:33Speaker 2: got his running mate back. Brady Wasslin, that move is
- 8:38Speaker 2: looking like a steal at this point. And now you
- 8:40Speaker 2: add in Klepov to that. So it's, at the end
- 8:44Speaker 2: of the day, they're much better layered now too. Like
- 8:49Speaker 2: with the depth. You look, Jacob Cloutier, Levi Harper on
- 8:54Speaker 2: the back end. They've got players that are putting up
- 8:57Speaker 2: points at nearly or at over a point a game,
- 9:00Speaker 2: and now you add Klepov, who last year ran away
- 9:03Speaker 2: with a lot of the offensive stats in the league.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, they're sitting pretty sagging on it, that's
- 9:08Speaker 3: for sure. Other news this week in the OHL, Chris Millett,
- 9:13Speaker 3: the head coach of the Erie Otters, and it's hard
- 9:15Speaker 3: to believe it's been almost three seasons already he's been
- 9:18Speaker 3: the head coach of the Erie Otters, which is mind-blowing,
- 9:21Speaker 3: because I remember when he was hired, it felt like
- 9:22Speaker 3: it was last season. um signed a two-year extension with
- 9:25Speaker 3: the otters um stability and the coaching staff is huge
- 9:28Speaker 3: in the ohl especially this day and age there's a
- 9:31Speaker 3: lot more opportunities coming with the ncaa factor um pro
- 9:36Speaker 3: gigs we saw a few coaches that have earned the
- 9:38Speaker 3: right to move up to the ahl this past this
- 9:41Speaker 3: past season chris mullett two-year extension for the erie otters
- 9:46Speaker 3: to get that stability huge for dave brown and staff
- 9:48Speaker 3: as a general manager But also for the players. You
- 9:51Speaker 3: get guys that come into your system. You draft guys
- 9:54Speaker 3: and they're 16 years old. By the time they're 18,
- 9:56Speaker 3: they have a new system to learn. So those younger
- 9:59Speaker 3: players on the area... in kind of a transition year
- 10:01Speaker 3: for the Otters, that's huge to have some stability there
- 10:04Speaker 3: behind the bench.
- 10:05Speaker 2: Exactly right. And at the end of the day, it's
- 10:07Speaker 2: about building that culture. And it's about keeping a guy
- 10:10Speaker 2: that has a ton of major junior hockey experience with Kelowna.
- 10:14Speaker 2: You look at some of the guys he coached there,
- 10:16Speaker 2: Colton Dock, Andrew Christelle, Now in Erie, he's done a
- 10:20Speaker 2: nice job of building back that program. And if you're
- 10:23Speaker 2: Dave Brown, that's the things you got to look at is, hey,
- 10:26Speaker 2: you can't keep flipping over coaches every year. You got
- 10:29Speaker 2: to have the stability. You got to have that culture setter,
- 10:32Speaker 2: that trend setter, the guy that goes into those meetings.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And like you mentioned, you can't have a new system
- 10:39Speaker 2: every one, two years. There's got to be a standard set.
- 10:43Speaker 2: And I think they did that with the extension of
- 10:45Speaker 2: Chris Monette.
- 10:46Speaker 3: 100%. I mean, you get the guy, right? Like, there's
- 10:49Speaker 3: nothing worse. And we know all about this. When you
- 10:51Speaker 3: have a coaching change and it happens all the time,
- 10:54Speaker 3: when a coaching change happens all the time, it just
- 10:57Speaker 3: feels like that trickle-down effect. And we see it around
- 10:59Speaker 3: the league every year. And I'll probably rant about it
- 11:03Speaker 3: a few times, but it's frustrating, right, for a player
- 11:07Speaker 3: every year when you come into a new system. Big
- 11:10Speaker 3: NHL debut, Joel. It's a guy that you've gotten to
- 11:12Speaker 3: see with Kingston before. Martin Kromiak. Saturday evening against Buffalo Sabres.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Makes his NHL debut for the LA Kings.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Incredible.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Incredible for Martin Kromiak to make his opportunity after 200.
- 11:27Speaker 3: And I'm just waiting for it to load. 200 and
- 11:31Speaker 3: here we go. 76 regular season NHL games. I mean,
- 11:35Speaker 3: credit when credit is due. Pay your dues.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Congratulations to Martin Kromiak.
- 11:41Speaker 3: He was on those loaded Kingston teams, Joel, and I
- 11:43Speaker 3: know you got to see him close when you spent
- 11:44Speaker 3: time with the Niagara Ice Dogs. They were loaded, and
- 11:47Speaker 3: I mean, I can't believe it's been 276 games in
- 11:50Speaker 3: the AHL, Joel. It felt like it was last year
- 11:53Speaker 3: you were watching them in Niagara. Well, and that's what
- 11:56Speaker 3: you talked about with Klepov, right? You talked about the AHL.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Here's a guy that's been in there, played his dues,
- 12:03Speaker 2: and that's who you're going up. That's the guy you
- 12:05Speaker 2: got to take top six minutes away from. That's the
- 12:07Speaker 2: guy in practice, right? Those types of players, and Like
- 12:11Speaker 2: you mentioned, he was outstanding in the Ontario Hockey League.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Played with Shane Wright, Lucas Edmonds, Paul Ludwinski. Xavier Wisdom
- 12:19Speaker 2: was on those teams and went through the COVID stuff,
- 12:24Speaker 2: the cancellations, and had to go back to Slovakia, play
- 12:28Speaker 2: in his native country there. But just he's a feel-good story. Yeah,
- 12:36Speaker 2: he is. He's the kind of thing that, hey, the
- 12:38Speaker 2: stick to it in this. Not, hey, I'm going to.
- 12:40Speaker 2: He stayed with the Ontario Reign, stayed with the LA
- 12:43Speaker 2: Kings through all this, was a fifth-round pick, and naturally gifted,
- 12:47Speaker 2: and having a hell of a season, six goals in
- 12:50Speaker 2: nine games to start in the American Hockey League. So,
- 12:54Speaker 2: like you mentioned, it's just nice to see that hard
- 12:57Speaker 2: work pay off for a guy that I remember us
- 13:00Speaker 2: watching him in the press box in Niagara and saying, wow,
- 13:03Speaker 2: this guy's got all the talent in the world and
- 13:06Speaker 2: a natural goal scorer, and played with Shane Wright, so
- 13:11Speaker 2: all the stuff that you want to see and eventually
- 13:14Speaker 2: get to the NHL level, which we thought he could. Absolutely.
- 13:18Speaker 3: He played 17-23 on Saturday evening in his NHL debut,
- 13:21Speaker 3: recorded one shot on net in the contest. I mean,
- 13:25Speaker 3: congratulations to Martin again. And I've got to ask you, Joel,
- 13:28Speaker 3: I mean, you know they're bench-bossing Kingston better than anybody
- 13:32Speaker 3: in the Ontario Hockey League and Troy Mann. I know
- 13:34Speaker 3: you guys have a good relationship. What would Troy Mann
- 13:37Speaker 3: do with having Shane Wright with Paul Ludwinski, Martin Kromiak,
- 13:43Speaker 3: Jade Wisdom. What would, what would Troy Mann do with
- 13:46Speaker 3: those guys? I mean, you see it this year with
- 13:48Speaker 3: the scoring, we'll touch on Kingston in a few minutes,
- 13:50Speaker 3: but the spark notes, the preview version for when we
- 13:53Speaker 3: talk about Kingston, how much fun would Troy Mann have
- 13:55Speaker 3: playing with coaching those guys?
- 13:57Speaker 2: Oh, he'd have a lot of fun. It would be
- 13:59Speaker 2: a matchup nightmare if he had Shane Wright. Um, he
- 14:02Speaker 2: would use them in all creative ways. Um, it, As
- 14:06Speaker 2: you know, he's so dialed in, he's so detailed, he's
- 14:09Speaker 2: so structured oriented, and he would win. He always finds
- 14:14Speaker 2: a way to get in the playoffs. He's never had
- 14:17Speaker 2: a losing record in all his years coaching AHL, ECHL,
- 14:21Speaker 2: so OHL as well. So I think he's a hockey,
- 14:28Speaker 2: he lives in Breeze hockey. He thinks about what he
- 14:31Speaker 2: can do with players. He thinks about what's always the
- 14:34Speaker 2: best to help the player develop and I mean, we
- 14:37Speaker 2: saw it firsthand with Bathurst and Norris, Nick Paul, some
- 14:41Speaker 2: of the guys he had in Belleville, some of the
- 14:42Speaker 2: goalies he had as well are in the NHL now,
- 14:45Speaker 2: Philip Gustafson. So I think he's proven that now. And
- 14:54Speaker 2: as you see, we'll talk about with Kingston, 8-2 in October.
- 14:57Speaker 2: So he's really finding his groove now with Kingston, which
- 15:04Speaker 2: is really nice to see.
- 15:05Speaker 3: And they should get that.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Stability, right?
- 15:06Speaker 3: Him and Corey Cooper get that extension. That's nice to
- 15:08Speaker 3: see in Kingston. There were some trades that happened this
- 15:12Speaker 3: week in the OHL. And we'll touch on it. We
- 15:16Speaker 3: were talking about Erie. We were talking about Kingston. Tyler Cooper.
- 15:21Speaker 3: And obviously Kingston is the next deal with Brody Cook.
- 15:25Speaker 3: But Tyler Cooper to the Brampton Steelheads from the Erie
- 15:28Speaker 3: Otters for a 2028 Kitchener second round pick. In a
- 15:32Speaker 3: 2029 Barry fifth round pick, the forward Tyler Cooper, 16
- 15:36Speaker 3: years old. He's got three points in 12 games this
- 15:41Speaker 3: season with the Otters. No points in his debut weekend
- 15:44Speaker 3: with the Branson Steelheads in those two games. But man,
- 15:47Speaker 3: oh man, I love the deal for James Richmond and staff.
- 15:52Speaker 3: You go out and you get 15 picks for Tanner Adams.
- 15:55Speaker 3: And I've been saying this on the podcast since that
- 15:59Speaker 3: deal happened, Joel. You've got to acquire young 2010-2009 born
- 16:05Speaker 3: players and build a core for the future with those picks.
- 16:10Speaker 3: If you're James Richman, you have an excellent opportunity. 15
- 16:14Speaker 3: draft picks that you receive plus the extra two compensations,
- 16:18Speaker 3: so 17 picks. If you're Brampton, you keep acquiring these 16-year-olds,
- 16:24Speaker 3: these 17-year-olds, and you build for the next couple seasons
- 16:27Speaker 3: here in a younger OHL, by the way, so maybe
- 16:29Speaker 3: next season is your pop year. You've got to love
- 16:33Speaker 3: this deal for Branton.
- 16:35Speaker 2: I agree, and I think it's a potential play like
- 16:37Speaker 2: you mentioned, Colin. You look at his stats with the
- 16:40Speaker 2: Chicago Reapers in his 15-U year, 124 points in 74 games.
- 16:46Speaker 2: It was the second-round pick by Erie. If you're James Richmond, right,
- 16:51Speaker 2: you have all this extra draft capital. Get a guy
- 16:54Speaker 2: that you've known, that you've seen compete in the OHL.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Right next year, when you're ready to go, He's going
- 17:01Speaker 2: to be in a younger league. He's going to be
- 17:02Speaker 2: able to know the rigors of what's going on, to
- 17:06Speaker 2: play for you and get a year under James Richmond's system.
- 17:10Speaker 2: And I think this is not the first time you're
- 17:13Speaker 2: going to see this this year from Brampton where they
- 17:15Speaker 2: go out and they kind of identify younger guys that
- 17:18Speaker 2: aren't getting the playing time or the minutes in other
- 17:22Speaker 2: clubs and make those potential plays. And I really like it.
- 17:26Speaker 3: And you know what? For Erie, you get the extra
- 17:29Speaker 3: draft picks. you have a strong month here we'll touch
- 17:32Speaker 3: on this too how important november is because teams know
- 17:35Speaker 3: what they are by december 1st because you're going to
- 17:38Speaker 3: know what direction you go in we'll touch on this
- 17:40Speaker 3: after we get through these trades but for eerie you
- 17:43Speaker 3: have an opportunity if you have a successful month you
- 17:46Speaker 3: can acquire a player i hope they don't i hope
- 17:48Speaker 3: they acquire more draft picks and build for the future
- 17:50Speaker 3: i think you got to know when to hold them
- 17:52Speaker 3: when to fold them it's a tough It's a tough
- 17:54Speaker 3: Western Conference this year. Obviously, with Saginaw, you see Flint start.
- 17:57Speaker 3: You see Sioux start. Obviously, Guelph at the Men's Cup.
- 18:01Speaker 3: And what London is, London's got to get some stability there,
- 18:04Speaker 3: more consistency in their game. But they had a decent
- 18:07Speaker 3: weekend this weekend for London. So, for Erie, I mean,
- 18:10Speaker 3: Matt Bass, you're looking at seventh in the conference, right? So,
- 18:13Speaker 3: I think you kind of know what you are. But
- 18:14Speaker 3: for Brampton, like you say, I mean, to get this
- 18:16Speaker 3: player to take the opportunity is huge for Brampton. I mean...
- 18:22Speaker 3: You might miss, you might miss, but at least you're
- 18:24Speaker 3: going down swinging if you're Brampton. And you got to
- 18:26Speaker 3: think about the appeal, right? Of maybe getting a NCAA commitment, right?
- 18:30Speaker 2: For the future.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Like you have so many opportunities, not even just to
- 18:34Speaker 3: spend the picks, right? It's not even that we can
- 18:36Speaker 3: spend the picks. You can sign free agents. I know
- 18:38Speaker 3: Brampton has had a rough go with the NCAA market,
- 18:41Speaker 3: but if you create a core and you create a
- 18:43Speaker 3: vision and you, it's an easy selling future feature. I mean,
- 18:48Speaker 3: we see it all the time around the league. Facilities, facilities,
- 18:52Speaker 3: facilities are huge. They have a pro facility there in Brampton.
- 18:55Speaker 3: They do. With the ECHL being there, they have a
- 18:58Speaker 3: pro facility. You've got to take the opportunity. You've got
- 19:01Speaker 3: to swing the bat to hit the ball. And I
- 19:03Speaker 3: think for Brampton, I love this deal, getting Tyler Cooper
- 19:05Speaker 3: a forward, and it gives you every opportunity to build
- 19:09Speaker 3: a core. And that's what I've been saying since the trade.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think if you look from the Erie standpoint,
- 19:14Speaker 2: they sent out some picks this offseason with Igorov and
- 19:18Speaker 2: Liam Beamish.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Jack Torr.
- 19:20Speaker 2: So you get some picks back. I mean, as the
- 19:24Speaker 2: season goes on, Colin Kennedy's going to eat more and
- 19:26Speaker 2: more ice time up the middle. And I think it's
- 19:32Speaker 2: a good hockey trade. And I think those are the
- 19:34Speaker 2: type of thing where you put the player first, right?
- 19:37Speaker 2: And you say, hey, this is the situation. And, I mean,
- 19:42Speaker 2: he's going to a GM and coach in James Richmond
- 19:44Speaker 2: that obviously believes in him to trade out a second
- 19:46Speaker 2: round pick.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Absolutely and we speak about hockey trades and opportunity for
- 19:51Speaker 3: players in this next trade joel it's an opportunity for
- 19:55Speaker 3: a player to get an opportunity i mean we thought
- 19:58Speaker 3: the opportunity was going to come in kingston with the
- 20:01Speaker 3: trade from one of the nights a few months ago
- 20:03Speaker 3: obviously they make the kolesarowski trade numbers game brody cook
- 20:09Speaker 3: going to the Owen Sound Attack for a 2027 fifth-round
- 20:12Speaker 3: pick from the Kings and Frontenacs. He gets an opportunity
- 20:15Speaker 3: now to be a regular. Night one, he's on a
- 20:17Speaker 3: line with Pierce Bowie. So you know that's going to
- 20:20Speaker 3: be a line driving. You know that's going to be
- 20:21Speaker 3: an offensive line. That's not going to be a line
- 20:23Speaker 3: that's going to be defending a whole lot when you're
- 20:25Speaker 3: on a line with Pierce Bowie, one of the best players,
- 20:26Speaker 3: the captain of the Owen Sound Attack. You know you're
- 20:30Speaker 3: getting the opportunity, and like you mentioned, you love an
- 20:32Speaker 3: opportunity trade. Brody Cook, he's an Owen Sound Attack.
- 20:36Speaker 2: And I think that's just Corey Cooper being honest with
- 20:39Speaker 2: the player, right? Cole Zyrowski comes over. That's a trade
- 20:43Speaker 2: that Kingston has to make.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Reagan's on the wall.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been excellent playing for Troy Mann. And, you know,
- 20:50Speaker 2: I thought Brody Cook was good in Kingston too. I
- 20:53Speaker 2: thought he played well since coming over from the London Knights.
- 20:56Speaker 2: But a numbers game, and you want to give the
- 20:58Speaker 2: player an opportunity. It's almost like a little bit of
- 21:00Speaker 2: an extension of the other trade.
- 21:02Speaker 3: It is.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Yeah. I think it's, I think it's a really good
- 21:06Speaker 2: hockey trade for both clubs. And, um, at the end
- 21:09Speaker 2: of the day, it's what's doing best by the player.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And I thought Corey Cooper really did that in that deal.
- 21:14Speaker 3: Five points and 11 games to the front next this
- 21:16Speaker 3: year for Brody Cook. Um, one game, obviously with the attack,
- 21:19Speaker 3: no points in the game, University of Massachusetts, um, commit.
- 21:24Speaker 3: So you got, you got some experience there for Owens town.
- 21:26Speaker 3: I think for a team that I don't know what
- 21:28Speaker 3: direction they're going in. Experience never hurts anything. Um, at
- 21:34Speaker 3: that matter, when you get a guy that has experience.
- 21:36Speaker 3: So for them, we'll see what happens in Owen Sound.
- 21:39Speaker 3: But the next trade, Joel, is a guy that you
- 21:42Speaker 3: will know very well covering the Trenton Golden Hawks. The
- 21:46Speaker 3: Brantford Bulldogs make another trade. It's defenseman Caden Rawling from
- 21:52Speaker 3: the Windsor Spitfires for a fourth-round pick and a seventh-round
- 21:57Speaker 3: pick to Windsor. Rawling going back to Brantford. It's not
- 22:01Speaker 3: a full-time... trade for this season this is a futures
- 22:05Speaker 3: trade for the branford bulldogs um who will be on
- 22:09Speaker 3: their ap list for the season for the remainder of
- 22:12Speaker 3: this season he spent time with collingwood he bogart uh
- 22:15Speaker 3: bulldog full-timer now congratulations to heath got the opportunity he
- 22:19Speaker 3: spent some time with caden he's in 09 the bulldogs
- 22:22Speaker 3: want to boost their 09 core he's a defensive defenseman
- 22:24Speaker 3: six foot 198 right-handed shot joel caden rolling a future
- 22:30Speaker 3: branford bulldog.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Who knows the OJHL better than the Heimans?
- 22:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Perkins had a good year.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Yeah. They scaled that league. They know the ins and
- 22:41Speaker 2: outs of that league. Obviously, Collingwood off to another excellent
- 22:45Speaker 2: start to the season, 20-2. And Caden Rawling, a player
- 22:50Speaker 2: that's a young player but has been a part of that.
- 22:53Speaker 2: And I think when you're looking at the upside for Brantford,
- 22:57Speaker 2: that's what this is about. It's a guy that's playing
- 22:59Speaker 2: for a very good Junior A franchise. He's going to
- 23:02Speaker 2: be brought up in a system, in a structure that
- 23:06Speaker 2: the Heimans are watching, that they know he's going to
- 23:08Speaker 2: be developed the right way. And I think it's an
- 23:11Speaker 2: excellent trade. You can never have enough bodies around. You
- 23:15Speaker 2: can never have enough guys that have potential upside around,
- 23:17Speaker 2: especially in the evolving hockey world where you never know
- 23:21Speaker 2: who's going to commit, who's going to do this, who's
- 23:23Speaker 2: going to do that. Injuries happen as well. So having
- 23:26Speaker 2: strong APs is a natural step. You look at it
- 23:30Speaker 2: with Semensov in the Titans. and it's something we talked
- 23:36Speaker 2: about and we did an article on the site about
- 23:39Speaker 2: it it's kind of the Hyman's template a little bit
- 23:43Speaker 2: now is to hey let's look at this junior A
- 23:46Speaker 2: level let's look at hey who's around who's got potential
- 23:49Speaker 2: upside that we can get into this get into Gary
- 23:52Speaker 2: Roberts get into these different avenues and help them develop
- 23:56Speaker 2: and I think it's smart they know that league they
- 23:59Speaker 2: know the players and I give them kudos because at
- 24:03Speaker 2: the end of the day, we talk about it all
- 24:04Speaker 2: the time. It's about giving players opportunities, about helping them
- 24:08Speaker 2: to succeed. It's about allowing them to succeed. And I
- 24:12Speaker 2: really like it. I really like the move because we've
- 24:16Speaker 2: seen it. Ryan Chamberlain was a guy who was an
- 24:20Speaker 2: AP last year. Brantford's done an amazing job of collecting
- 24:25Speaker 2: these young and guys that are, are good high-end junior
- 24:29Speaker 2: A players and having them around. So, And I think
- 24:31Speaker 2: it's good for the players overall. 100%.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I mean, sixth-round pick in 2025, 113th overall by the
- 24:38Speaker 3: Windsor Spitfires was rolling. And, you know, it'll be interesting
- 24:41Speaker 3: because Collingwood has really built something up. And, Joel, you
- 24:43Speaker 3: know the OJ better than me. You see last year
- 24:47Speaker 3: Max and Korovic in Collingwood. Heath Bogart goes to Collingwood.
- 24:51Speaker 3: The Bulldogs got a thing for Collingwood. They got something there.
- 24:55Speaker 3: And what is that program? I mean, how much is
- 24:59Speaker 3: that program– It always feels like they're in contention. I
- 25:02Speaker 3: know you get to see them a little bit when
- 25:03Speaker 3: they play Trenton. What's that program been like? It feels
- 25:07Speaker 3: like they're starting to become a factory here for OHL
- 25:09Speaker 3: talent and not just NCAA.
- 25:12Speaker 2: Yeah, they are a championship caliber team year in and
- 25:18Speaker 2: year out in Collingwood. They're built to win. They play
- 25:22Speaker 2: a very, very structured game. I mean, they've played 22
- 25:25Speaker 2: games this year. They've let in 42 goals. they've scored
- 25:29Speaker 2: 128 um it's it's solid yeah um they're an excellent
- 25:36Speaker 2: they have an excellent blueprint for what they want to
- 25:39Speaker 2: do how they want to um build out their teams
- 25:43Speaker 2: who they want to bring in who they want to
- 25:45Speaker 2: recruit and um they're a team that that should have
- 25:50Speaker 2: eyes on them they should have guys moving up to
- 25:52Speaker 2: the ohl and um they're a very impressive team they're
- 25:57Speaker 2: They're kind of the gold standard of the OJHL, and
- 26:01Speaker 2: they've been a team that has really put the blueprint
- 26:06Speaker 2: of what the OJHL should be. They've copied that and
- 26:09Speaker 2: made it what it should be. Absolutely.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I mean, it's cool to see these teams. Like, how
- 26:15Speaker 3: important the GO, the OJ is. Now, honestly, you could
- 26:18Speaker 3: say the P as well in Junior C. How important
- 26:21Speaker 3: it is for development. I mean, Mason Ray going down
- 26:23Speaker 3: to the P. a couple days ago, right, with that
- 26:27Speaker 3: announcement of Harmer Owens' own attack at Niagara Ice Dog
- 26:29Speaker 3: and Brantford Bulldog. So you can see their relationships now
- 26:32Speaker 3: in the landscape, how much it's changed, right? The avenues
- 26:35Speaker 3: are endless nowadays in the OHL. This weekend, my pet
- 26:40Speaker 3: peeve game's happened, Joel. Now, you got to make sure
- 26:43Speaker 3: I don't rant. You got to make sure I don't rant.
- 26:45Speaker 3: And maybe some fans like it. Some fans probably say,
- 26:47Speaker 3: shut up, Colin. But I got a mute button. OHL
- 26:52Speaker 3: versus the Q Games. the outer league games i hate
- 26:56Speaker 3: it i i cannot stand it we talked about this
- 27:00Speaker 3: before about you know all these different games last week
- 27:04Speaker 3: brandon and i with mike farwell were talking about the
- 27:07Speaker 3: memorial cup changes and i don't like that either maybe
- 27:11Speaker 3: i'm just getting pissy in my old age but i
- 27:14Speaker 3: i cannot stand these qohl games the last couple seasons
- 27:18Speaker 3: um valedora north bay Obviously, 4-2, Valadora beats North Bay
- 27:22Speaker 3: on Sunday. And then we ran a 4-3 over the
- 27:25Speaker 3: Sudbury Wolves on Sunday. I only like these games if
- 27:31Speaker 3: every team, if it's balanced with other teams. Last year,
- 27:36Speaker 3: I thought the Ottawa 67 stole points from the worst
- 27:39Speaker 3: team in the queue in Gatineau. I understand why the
- 27:42Speaker 3: game's there. It's their closest matchup. I understand that. I
- 27:45Speaker 3: don't like it, but I understand it. I wish they'd
- 27:47Speaker 3: play the Kingston Frontenacs a couple more times instead. Play
- 27:50Speaker 3: them 10 times, for all I care. Let's have a
- 27:53Speaker 3: double rivalry weekend. But these Q games, Joel, they bug me.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Thoughts on them?
- 28:01Speaker 3: What do we got to do? What do we have
- 28:03Speaker 3: to do to fix the OHL right now on the
- 28:05Speaker 3: OHL at 60 podcast, Joel? I think there's kind of
- 28:08Speaker 3: two schools of thought, right? There's people that are going
- 28:11Speaker 3: to love it, and then there's people that are going
- 28:13Speaker 3: to hate it. Yep. And I hate it.
- 28:16Speaker 2: And I can see both. I can see why as
- 28:19Speaker 2: a traditionalist, which you are, you don't like the cross-league games.
- 28:26Speaker 2: I can see why from a marketing standpoint, from the
- 28:30Speaker 2: new age, kind of the digital age, why it makes sense.
- 28:35Speaker 2: And it's kind of cool too from a scouting standpoint
- 28:40Speaker 2: to kind of see them against other guys and this
- 28:42Speaker 2: and that. But I mean, I do think from your standpoint,
- 28:48Speaker 2: from the integrity of the standings, I think that's kind
- 28:51Speaker 2: of where, where you come from a little bit.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Too, right? You look back at the end of the season,
- 28:55Speaker 3: you see a team you're tied with in the standings
- 28:59Speaker 3: and you got, and I know, I think I can
- 29:01Speaker 3: speak for fans on this one because like you're tied
- 29:04Speaker 3: with a team late in the year and they played
- 29:06Speaker 3: against Gatineau twice last season and no offense to Gatineau
- 29:10Speaker 3: this season, but last year they were one of the
- 29:11Speaker 3: worst teams in the queue. You play them, there's, there's
- 29:14Speaker 3: four points. you look back at it, well, one team
- 29:18Speaker 3: had to play, I don't know, an extra game against
- 29:21Speaker 3: Oshawa or Kingston, right? And, you know, you're playing Gatineau.
- 29:26Speaker 3: So that's why I look at it and I have
- 29:27Speaker 3: a hard time with that at the seeding.
- 29:30Speaker 2: I think you almost, if you want to do it
- 29:33Speaker 2: in maybe a fair way to keep, so to speak,
- 29:37Speaker 2: integrity to the standings, if that's the the viewpoint is
- 29:42Speaker 2: you do it in, in the preseason.
- 29:46Speaker 3: Yes.
- 29:46Speaker 2: And that's how you do it.
- 29:47Speaker 3: Have your Victoria trips in BC. Yeah. I love that
- 29:51Speaker 3: for team bonding, man. I'd love that. If anyone wants
- 29:53Speaker 3: to take us, I'll go on the trip.
- 29:55Speaker 2: And I think that's, I think that's kind of how
- 29:57Speaker 2: you do it or you do, kind of like they
- 30:00Speaker 2: do in the nhl with the prospect tournaments and you say.
- 30:03Speaker 3: Hey bingo hub hub tournaments yeah.
- 30:05Speaker 2: We're going to colonna colonna's hosting it this year branford's
- 30:08Speaker 2: there niagara's there and two teams from the whr there
- 30:12Speaker 2: pen picked in and colonna yeah or something like that
- 30:16Speaker 2: and you do that and it creates some some more
- 30:20Speaker 2: energy some more cool social media stuff you can do
- 30:24Speaker 2: some more videos and you do it in the preseason
- 30:27Speaker 2: it's light-hearted um It gives.
- 30:30Speaker 3: You a valuable preseason game to watch.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Yeah, and also then you're not, if you're going by
- 30:39Speaker 2: geographical location, you don't have Brantford playing Niagara twice in
- 30:43Speaker 2: the preseason and then a bunch in the regular season
- 30:46Speaker 2: or whatever it may be, right? So it saves kind
- 30:49Speaker 2: of some of that, which might be nice as well.
- 30:52Speaker 2: But there's all different schools of thoughts, and I do
- 30:55Speaker 2: get why the league does it, and I do understand that. So,
- 31:01Speaker 2: I mean, I think you're always going to have people
- 31:04Speaker 2: disagree about everything.
- 31:05Speaker 3: You can say it. You know what? I'm going to
- 31:07Speaker 3: be pissy about it, and there's no beating around that bush.
- 31:11Speaker 3: It's like the Broncos in the first three quarters of
- 31:14Speaker 3: a football game before the fourth quarter. It's the end
- 31:16Speaker 3: of the world, and all of a sudden the fourth
- 31:18Speaker 3: quarter happens, and it's all good.
- 31:20Speaker 2: You know what? I think it's just cross-collaboration, right? It's
- 31:24Speaker 2: just the three leagues coming together, and you know what?
- 31:28Speaker 2: It's another... it's another event where it's another thing that
- 31:31Speaker 2: they can do together and keep it under the umbrella.
- 31:34Speaker 2: And at the end of the day, people like it.
- 31:37Speaker 2: I think the kids really enjoy it.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Yep.
- 31:40Speaker 2: And I think that's.
- 31:41Speaker 4: What kind of matters at the end of the day is,
- 31:43Speaker 4: you know what, if.
- 31:46Speaker 6: If it's enjoyable and people and the teams and, and
- 31:51Speaker 6: the leagues are getting something out of it, then, then
- 31:54Speaker 6: I think it's a win-win.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 31:56Speaker 3: You know, what's interesting to me, Joel, and this is
- 31:58Speaker 3: an idea I get, And it's not likely to happen
- 32:03Speaker 3: because how do you manage this, the cost, the time
- 32:07Speaker 3: and the season? It would be so cool to have
- 32:09Speaker 3: an all-OHL team, an all-Q team, an all-dub team, and
- 32:13Speaker 3: have a little round-robin all-star tournament. That would be so
- 32:16Speaker 3: cool to see. It would be hard to do because
- 32:20Speaker 3: when is the schedule? It would be easy to say, okay,
- 32:23Speaker 3: let's take that five days after the Christmas break. Well,
- 32:26Speaker 3: five days after the Christmas break– World Juniors are on.
- 32:31Speaker 3: So the best players aren't going to be in the
- 32:33Speaker 3: game because of the World Juniors. It would just be
- 32:36Speaker 3: cool to have a matchup like that, right? We see
- 32:37Speaker 3: the CHL, National Team Development Program game, and that's cool
- 32:41Speaker 3: to watch coming up next month in December. We'll touch
- 32:44Speaker 3: on that in a little bit. But those games are
- 32:46Speaker 3: cool to watch. It would be so neat if somehow,
- 32:49Speaker 3: obviously it's not likely going to happen because it's just
- 32:52Speaker 3: hard with the cost, the timing of the season, the schedule.
- 32:56Speaker 3: But that would be really cool to see.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it would be. And then we kind of got
- 33:00Speaker 2: it a little bit in the sense of we got the,
- 33:03Speaker 2: the top, the top teams back in the subway series
- 33:06Speaker 2: days against team Russia.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Oh, those are the best. And we got to get
- 33:10Speaker 3: the subway series back. We need that back. And you
- 33:14Speaker 3: know what? Hey, with the world junior announcement, we won't
- 33:18Speaker 3: touch on it, Joel. We won't touch on it, but
- 33:20Speaker 3: for the players sake, I will say this, not politically. Um,
- 33:24Speaker 3: we're a hockey podcast. Um, And I feel like that they,
- 33:31Speaker 3: for the players to have that opportunity to play in
- 33:34Speaker 3: the world juniors for me to honestly, to consume the
- 33:37Speaker 3: world juniors, man, we're talking about it all the time, Joel,
- 33:41Speaker 3: every tournament we're saying, Oh, I wish Russia was here.
- 33:43Speaker 3: I wish Russia was here. Every time we text every day.
- 33:46Speaker 3: And every time they're in the world juniors, we're talking
- 33:49Speaker 3: in our groups about where are they, you know, like,
- 33:52Speaker 3: it would be cool to see, but like, The opportunity,
- 33:55Speaker 3: and you mentioned the Subway Series, maybe with that returning,
- 33:58Speaker 3: it can slowly be an avenue. But, man, I miss that.
- 34:02Speaker 3: And 100% I miss that.
- 34:05Speaker 2: And just from a sports perspective, they're an outstanding hockey country.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:11Speaker 2: The amount of players they produce.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Athletes.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Like, it's incredible, right? And it's, you know, we were
- 34:19Speaker 2: talking about it the other day, and it's Mishkov played.
- 34:22Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Two games in the World Juniors. Demi Dov didn't play
- 34:27Speaker 2: in the World Juniors. So from that standpoint, it would
- 34:31Speaker 2: have been nice to see those young players play and
- 34:34Speaker 2: those guys that would have been superstars of the tournament.
- 34:36Speaker 2: And I'm glad that for the athletes and the kids
- 34:41Speaker 2: that they're going to be able to play again and
- 34:42Speaker 2: showcase what they worked on their whole lives and succeeded at. So,
- 34:48Speaker 2: and like we said, those Subway Series games, there was
- 34:50Speaker 2: a lot on the line. There was a lot of pride.
- 34:52Speaker 2: There was A month before the World Juniors?
- 34:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:55Speaker 2: If you look back on those rosters, the amount of
- 34:59Speaker 2: NHL stars that played in those games for both sides.
- 35:03Speaker 3: For Team Russia, you're playing to make the World Junior team.
- 35:07Speaker 3: It's essentially a World Junior training camp for Team Russia.
- 35:11Speaker 3: You're playing to make it. And for them, it's almost
- 35:15Speaker 3: like our U-17s, right? We had that U-17. I don't
- 35:18Speaker 3: like the timing of the U-17 being this week. Shout
- 35:20Speaker 3: out to BC who can't make it tonight because he's
- 35:23Speaker 3: covering that and that'll be a great experience for him
- 35:26Speaker 3: covering Hockey Canada and the U-17s. But I would like
- 35:31Speaker 3: to see the opportunity to see that Russian team again
- 35:36Speaker 3: in the Subway Series because those were beauties. And you're
- 35:40Speaker 3: essentially seeing these guys come over. Honestly, they can play
- 35:44Speaker 3: in the KHL. They can play in the Russian Junior Leagues.
- 35:46Speaker 3: And now all of a sudden they're playing North America again.
- 35:48Speaker 3: against junior age kids and not men. And I mean,
- 35:51Speaker 3: it was great hockey to watch and it wasn't, it didn't,
- 35:54Speaker 3: it never felt like an exhibition game. And I honestly,
- 35:57Speaker 3: it would be, it would be fascinating to see if
- 35:59Speaker 3: that comes back one day. If I could put that
- 36:01Speaker 3: on the bucket list for one thing to cover for
- 36:05Speaker 3: one thing to come back now and hopefully everything gets
- 36:08Speaker 3: sorted out here.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:11Speaker 3: I hope that's the thing. I hope that's the thing. Um,
- 36:15Speaker 3: You know, hey, they can make trade deals, not to
- 36:16Speaker 3: get politically, but they can make trade deals, so it
- 36:18Speaker 3: would be cool to see them make a– it would
- 36:20Speaker 3: be really cool to see the Subway Series come back.
- 36:22Speaker 3: That would be a blast. You imagine year one, year one,
- 36:26Speaker 3: you put them in Kitchener and put them in London.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Just pack Barnes. Just pack the Barnes. Just go to
- 36:31Speaker 3: the biggest markets. Go to the junior race. Go to
- 36:36Speaker 3: the Meccas. You know, sell out the Saddle Dome in Calgary.
- 36:40Speaker 3: um those would be a blast i mean you go
- 36:43Speaker 3: to the queue i mean i remember i remember the
- 36:45Speaker 3: mem cup and she went again when they had the
- 36:47Speaker 3: horns and stuff going like put them in the market
- 36:50Speaker 3: put them in halifax or moncton like those uh big
- 36:53Speaker 3: arenas like put them in the markets and let's let's
- 36:56Speaker 3: let's sell it out i mean let's grow the game
- 36:59Speaker 3: and i i missed those days those were the best
- 37:02Speaker 3: um the uh subway series uh for sure um kingston
- 37:07Speaker 3: front next joel Kingston Frontenac's, and we got to touch
- 37:11Speaker 3: on it, October, they love their Thanksgiving, they love their Halloween,
- 37:18Speaker 3: and November's off to a 1-0 start for them as well,
- 37:22Speaker 3: with their 5-0 win over the Brantford Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon,
- 37:25Speaker 3: where the Bulldogs just simply did not show up for
- 37:28Speaker 3: the game, but 8-2, 8-2 October, a franchise best for
- 37:35Speaker 3: the Kingston Frontenac's, To have a good start's huge. Obviously,
- 37:38Speaker 3: you know Troy Mann well. I'm sure that's a big emphasis,
- 37:41Speaker 3: to have a good start. I mean, you've covered a
- 37:45Speaker 3: couple games this season in Kingston already, Joel. They're flying.
- 37:50Speaker 2: They are, and they look really good. And they're playing
- 37:52Speaker 2: to the structure, which they need to. And they're playing
- 37:55Speaker 2: to what Troy Mann wants them to do. And I
- 37:57Speaker 2: think the thing that you kind of look at, too,
- 38:00Speaker 2: is Royden Smith has been excellent in that. And he's
- 38:03Speaker 2: been kind of a revelation. What a story. You look
- 38:07Speaker 2: at Gavin Betts, high pick, has been out. Minchuk drafted
- 38:11Speaker 2: to the Las Vegas Knights, and it's Royden Smith who
- 38:15Speaker 2: has kind of carried the load and been outstanding in that. Offensively,
- 38:19Speaker 2: they've gotten production throughout the lineup. Alex Kuhlman's really taken
- 38:23Speaker 2: a big step.
- 38:24Speaker 3: What a year to have one, too.
- 38:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's a guy that at the end of
- 38:29Speaker 2: last year, Troy Mann was, him and Nolan Schneider, he
- 38:32Speaker 2: was really starting to trust as 16-year-olds and starting to
- 38:36Speaker 2: pour the minutes a little bit more. And they made
- 38:39Speaker 2: it into the playoffs and it was a tougher second
- 38:42Speaker 2: half for them. But they developed and he let those
- 38:46Speaker 2: guys play through it and he let those guys develop
- 38:49Speaker 2: and now they're paying the dividends of it. Misiak's been
- 38:53Speaker 2: a great pickup from Erie. He's really found his stride
- 38:56Speaker 2: and the three Slovaks have been have been a nice trio.
- 39:00Speaker 2: So they've built this team the right way. You talked
- 39:03Speaker 2: about the stability with Corey Cooper, Troy Mangan, the extensions
- 39:07Speaker 2: and letting them do it, letting them have some time,
- 39:09Speaker 2: letting them put their stamp on the hockey club. I
- 39:13Speaker 2: think it's important that you, you, you let those guys
- 39:17Speaker 2: work on it, work through some things, you know, it
- 39:21Speaker 2: can't be like, Hey, one year, two year. And you gotta,
- 39:24Speaker 2: you gotta be in the conference finals. You gotta be
- 39:26Speaker 2: doing this. Let these guys, Corey Cooper's been all, around
- 39:30Speaker 2: a long time. Troy man's been an excellent American hockey
- 39:34Speaker 2: league coach. Look at his resume. Look at the guys
- 39:36Speaker 2: he's made into NHL so far, NHL stars. So I
- 39:42Speaker 2: think Kington Kingston's got the blueprint now and they're letting
- 39:45Speaker 2: those guys work, work through it. And, um, They're going
- 39:50Speaker 2: to pay dividends for it if they can continue on
- 39:53Speaker 2: this trajectory. And I think it's been, for the fans
- 39:57Speaker 2: in Kingston, it's what they've needed. It's what they've wanted.
- 40:01Speaker 2: And I think it's outstanding. 100%.
- 40:04Speaker 3: I mean, another thing that's been good. You tell me
- 40:06Speaker 3: if this is good, Joel. Michael Newlove, the goaltender for
- 40:09Speaker 3: the Windsor Spitfires. Back to back to back shutouts. Is
- 40:14Speaker 3: that good? You tell me. I mean, incredible weekend. Incredible week.
- 40:19Speaker 3: For Michael Newlove, just 25 minutes and 43 seconds away
- 40:22Speaker 3: from breaking the franchise record for the Windsor Spitfires. The
- 40:26Speaker 3: best goalie pads in the league. You went from the
- 40:28Speaker 3: red blob to the airstrip to where you can land
- 40:32Speaker 3: your helicopter. It's, I mean, the Newlove language as a
- 40:38Speaker 3: Josh Sweetland, OHL PR guy posted on Twitter. I mean, 100%.
- 40:42Speaker 3: I mean, he's got to be feeling good right now
- 40:46Speaker 3: going to the rink.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Well, he's, he is, a success story of the under
- 40:52Speaker 2: 18 priority selection. First overall pick out of Halton Hurricanes.
- 40:57Speaker 2: And yeah, it's perfection. Good. I guess so. Um, he's, yeah, he's,
- 41:03Speaker 2: he's been a revelation in that. And, you know, it's
- 41:06Speaker 2: amazing to see the composure too, as, as, as it continues, like,
- 41:12Speaker 2: as you get closer and closer to that record and,
- 41:15Speaker 2: you know, just to stay so calm, so composed. And, um,
- 41:18Speaker 2: it's amazing to watch guys chase history and we've seen
- 41:22Speaker 2: it throughout sports and in our lives lifetime. And each
- 41:27Speaker 2: time it's just, it's just amazing to watch and you
- 41:30Speaker 2: root so hard for the guys. And yeah, it's, it's,
- 41:34Speaker 2: it's a special story and he's a special success story
- 41:39Speaker 2: of that under 18 priority selection.
- 41:41Speaker 3: And it gets harder and harder because as this shutout
- 41:43Speaker 3: streak becomes more public and other teams start to see
- 41:47Speaker 3: it and you know and that's what makes it more
- 41:48Speaker 3: impressive i mean back-to-back shutouts okay the third all right
- 41:53Speaker 3: like teams know what we're at now we're throwing everything
- 41:56Speaker 3: even the kitchen sink at you we're throwing the whole
- 41:58Speaker 3: front yard at you in the backyard at you um
- 42:01Speaker 3: we're coming but uh it's been impressive i mean it
- 42:04Speaker 3: has been impressive for michael new love um currently the
- 42:08Speaker 3: sixth highest streak um long or longest streak 183 minutes
- 42:11Speaker 3: and 41 seconds The shutout streak has been 25-43 from
- 42:18Speaker 3: breaking the Spitz record. He's 54-13 from breaking an OHL
- 42:22Speaker 3: regular season record and 79-25 from an OHL record, period. Incredible.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Adam Monroe, the current record holder, 263, Erie Honors goaltender.
- 42:37Speaker 3: What a name. Forgot about that. 2001, Joel. JP Anderson's
- 42:42Speaker 3: on this list. I mean, that guy. Talk about an
- 42:45Speaker 3: OHL veteran. I mean, that guy was in the league forever, J.P.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Anderson.
- 42:50Speaker 3: What a name. Another name on here that you know well, Joel.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Mark Byzantine, third on the list, 237-53. Regular season record,
- 42:57Speaker 3: that is, for Mark. and Jordan Bennington on the list
- 43:04Speaker 3: as well. And to round it out with Michael Newlove
- 43:06Speaker 3: is Michael DiPietro. So some big names on that list.
- 43:10Speaker 3: You got some really good pros on that list. And
- 43:12Speaker 3: obviously Jordan Bennington, Michael DiPietro, two big names as well
- 43:16Speaker 3: to round out that list. So that's quite the company.
- 43:20Speaker 3: And I mean, I think this is one too for Michael.
- 43:23Speaker 3: He got the opportunity to develop and you mentioned the
- 43:25Speaker 3: U18 draft. And then last year, you know, he wasn't
- 43:27Speaker 3: forced into a role because Joey Costanzo and the veteran
- 43:30Speaker 3: team And you get to learn from Joey. And I
- 43:34Speaker 3: think that probably helped him a little bit as well.
- 43:36Speaker 2: And it's about patience with the.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Goaltender, right? You're going to have down games. You're going
- 43:40Speaker 3: to have good games. Where do you keep the middle ground?
- 43:41Speaker 3: I think with him, with Michael, it's always been a
- 43:45Speaker 3: steady line. And watching his progress throughout the U18 year,
- 43:48Speaker 3: like you mentioned in the draft, it's been impressive to watch.
- 43:52Speaker 3: So that's incredible for Michael Newlove. Back-to-back-to-back shutouts for the
- 43:56Speaker 3: Windsor Spitfires goalkeeper. Record watch, record watch. That should be
- 44:02Speaker 3: the free game. That should be the Friday free game.
- 44:04Speaker 3: If that's on the line, but it is not. It
- 44:06Speaker 3: is Erie and Flint that we have to send BCAP
- 44:11Speaker 3: our predictions for it as a senior advisor. Emphasis on
- 44:15Speaker 3: the senior, less on the advisor. I have to, we
- 44:18Speaker 3: got to send them our thoughts on who's going to
- 44:21Speaker 3: win our pick-ems.
- 44:22Speaker 2: We'll get to that to round out the show this week.

- 46:12Speaker 3: You're listening to the OHL in 60 podcast right here on.
- 46:16Speaker 7: The Armchair GM Sports Network. Joel, but we still got.
- 46:20Speaker 8: A few more topics here.
- 46:22Speaker 7: OHL remix jerseys, Joel.
- 46:23Speaker 3: And we talked about this This afternoon, before we recorded,
- 46:45Speaker 3: the NHL, obviously, every year they have to come out
- 46:47Speaker 3: with the nice jerseys. They've got to make a couple pennies.
- 46:50Speaker 3: How are they going to do it? Well, we'll release jerseys.
- 46:52Speaker 3: And it's an easy thing to do. There were some duds.
- 46:56Speaker 3: There were some sweet ones. My take is on the
- 47:00Speaker 3: jersey remix, and we'll get to this, Joel, what would
- 47:03Speaker 3: be the best. Our top two, we'll give top two
- 47:06Speaker 3: OHL jersey remix ideas. That would be kind of neat
- 47:10Speaker 3: to get through, but I always like the ones that
- 47:16Speaker 3: everyone on social media says are duds are the ones
- 47:18Speaker 3: I like. I like the simple hockey jerseys. And, you know,
- 47:23Speaker 3: like I see people cutting up Edmontons. I love Edmontons
- 47:26Speaker 3: with the black. Like I said, in Hamilton, being with
- 47:29Speaker 3: the Bulldogs, I miss the stealth days. I love the stealth.
- 47:32Speaker 3: Our child jerseys are stealth, for goodness sake.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Like, we had fun with those.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Like, you know, like, I– I like the NHL's vision. Like,
- 47:43Speaker 3: I don't know. What do you think in the OHL?
- 47:45Speaker 3: It's likely not going to happen, but remix jerseys is
- 47:48Speaker 3: a pretty cool idea.
- 47:49Speaker 2: I think they're, I think they're a great idea. I
- 47:52Speaker 2: think if you're looking for, for a fun kind of
- 47:54Speaker 2: third Jersey or, or to do something, I think, um,
- 47:58Speaker 2: I think Kingston kind of a little bit did it
- 48:01Speaker 2: right with the, the count Frontenac. And I think that
- 48:04Speaker 2: I would say would be a great remix.
- 48:06Speaker 3: There you go.
- 48:07Speaker 2: Kitchener with, uh, the pistol Pete, I guess. I don't
- 48:11Speaker 2: know the character.
- 48:13Speaker 5: Right.
- 48:13Speaker 2: Um, that would be a nice one.
- 48:15Speaker 3: I want Windsor to go with the border. Use the
- 48:18Speaker 3: Gordie Howe with the new Gordie Howe. Like, it's like
- 48:21Speaker 3: as a wings fan, how they went with the, like,
- 48:23Speaker 3: it's essentially a normal red wing Jersey. We just have
- 48:25Speaker 3: hockey town over top of it. I love it.
- 48:27Speaker 2: I love that.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Like, I think it's cool, but a lot of people don't,
- 48:30Speaker 3: but that's okay. Opinions are opinions, but I think it'd
- 48:33Speaker 3: be cool. Like, so like how the red wings at
- 48:35Speaker 3: hockey town, it'd be cool to have the Gordie Howe bridge, uh,
- 48:39Speaker 3: Going across the Spitfires logo.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 48:42Speaker 3: With like Windsor across it. Like WSR or something like that.
- 48:45Speaker 3: Like the border crossing. Something like that. Play to the city.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Like a remix. Like that would be kind of cool.
- 48:50Speaker 3: Similar like what the Blue Jays did in their City
- 48:52Speaker 3: Connect jersey. With the skyline in the back. That would
- 48:55Speaker 3: be sweet in Windsor. Peterborough too with the Pete's.
- 48:58Speaker 2: With the lip locks. Yeah.
- 49:00Speaker 3: That would be cool.
- 49:01Speaker 2: Trent River. Yeah. That would be nice. Oshawa could do
- 49:05Speaker 2: a ton with PM.
- 49:08Speaker 3: And talking with... Talking with Jack Moore about that a
- 49:11Speaker 3: couple weeks ago, those black jerseys that Oshawa has, you
- 49:15Speaker 3: can be like the GM, you can be like for
- 49:17Speaker 3: the generals with the GM um partnership there you have
- 49:20Speaker 3: a lot of opportunities there in oshawa if they did
- 49:23Speaker 3: that um there's so many opportunities like i'd love to
- 49:27Speaker 3: see sudbury you know with the nickel yeah work the
- 49:30Speaker 3: nickel in there like i ottawa obviously the nation's capital
- 49:35Speaker 3: like there's some good ones I mean, like if Branton
- 49:38Speaker 3: wanted to go into the GTA a little bit, I mean,
- 49:40Speaker 3: that could be a selling feature for some people in
- 49:42Speaker 3: the Toronto area. Toronto's not really a hockey city. It's
- 49:46Speaker 3: a Leafs city. But that would be kind of a
- 49:48Speaker 3: cool pitch to the fans, I think, that could kind of,
- 49:50Speaker 3: you know, like grow the market a little bit. Like, oh, hey,
- 49:52Speaker 3: that's a cool design. And we know all about graphic design, Joel.
- 49:55Speaker 3: It's huge to grow the game. You know, like you
- 49:59Speaker 3: see a cool graphic, all of a sudden, hey, there's
- 50:02Speaker 3: a follow. All of a sudden, hey, I might go
- 50:04Speaker 3: to a game. They got cool graphics. Nowadays, in this
- 50:06Speaker 3: day and age, that sells. So, something like that would
- 50:10Speaker 3: be neat, but it'd just be really cool. I mean,
- 50:13Speaker 3: Niagara Falls, like, with the ice dogs.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Yeah, into the Niagara.
- 50:17Speaker 3: It'd be cool. A lot of good ideas, like Erie.
- 50:21Speaker 3: I mean, with Pennsylvania, I essentially, I mean, for those
- 50:24Speaker 3: over 19 and 21, you gotta go yingling with the beer.
- 50:28Speaker 3: But you gotta go with the yingling there, so... that
- 50:32Speaker 3: would be a good only 19 plus or 21 plus
- 50:36Speaker 3: so no one no one can wear the jersey fans
- 50:38Speaker 3: would love it though above 21 in the erie um
- 50:41Speaker 3: i know there's a lot of equipment managers around the
- 50:43Speaker 3: league they're listening to this right now saying yeah oh
- 50:46Speaker 3: yeah a lot of people in the league love the
- 50:49Speaker 3: erie trip for the yingling um but no it's just
- 50:52Speaker 3: cool You know what? It'd be neat for the Flint
- 50:55Speaker 3: Saginaw Series to kind of play off it, too, for
- 50:58Speaker 3: Rivalry Weekend. If you had special jerseys for Rivalry Weekend,
- 51:01Speaker 3: that takes it up a notch. Yeah.
- 51:05Speaker 2: I think, too, you can do so much with jerseys
- 51:09Speaker 2: to create that environment, that extra around the game. It's, yeah,
- 51:15Speaker 2: how many times do you see it where you're saying, oh, hey,
- 51:18Speaker 2: there's a special jersey tonight. And you're so excited to
- 51:21Speaker 2: see what the design is going to be or what
- 51:24Speaker 2: the auctions too with the jerseys and stuff like that.
- 51:27Speaker 2: There's so much fan engagement. So it's definitely something that
- 51:31Speaker 2: the league has used well to market and the individual
- 51:35Speaker 2: teams as well. So I think it's– the league is
- 51:41Speaker 2: always looking for extra ways to promote and jerseys is
- 51:45Speaker 2: a great way to do that.
- 51:46Speaker 3: Absolutely it is. I love it. Hey, we've grown the
- 51:51Speaker 3: league tonight in this episode, without a doubt, with a
- 51:54Speaker 3: lot of things that we've discussed, Joel. It's been a blast.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Six 08 cellers named to the CHL, to Team CHL,
- 52:04Speaker 3: for the CHL NTVB game. That's the National Team Development Program.
- 52:10Speaker 3: So six 08 cellers to the game, and it's kind
- 52:12Speaker 3: of your six big ones. Cooper McCaslin from the London Knights.
- 52:15Speaker 3: I mean, that kid... We see this every year in London.
- 52:19Speaker 3: If it's not Jackson Clover, it's Easton Cowan. If it's
- 52:22Speaker 3: not Easton Cowan, it's Denver Barkey. If it's not Denver Barkey,
- 52:26Speaker 3: you know, it's Mitch Marner. Every year, Cooper McAslin comes up,
- 52:31Speaker 3: gets this opportunity to represent Team CHL.
- 52:34Speaker 2: That's huge.
- 52:35Speaker 3: Jako Wysik from Guelph. Kind of the consensus number one
- 52:39Speaker 3: pick in the NHL draft coming out of the OHL
- 52:41Speaker 3: starting the season. Maybe we can touch on this when
- 52:44Speaker 3: we get to the players, Joel. But, you know, the
- 52:47Speaker 3: opportunity on a deep team in Guelph, this could be
- 52:50Speaker 3: a big stage for him to get that opportunity to
- 52:52Speaker 3: be a regular top six in this game in front
- 52:55Speaker 3: of all the scouts. This was Matthew Schaefer's pop game
- 52:58Speaker 3: in his draft year prior to the injury at the
- 53:00Speaker 3: World Juniors that unfortunately happened to Matthew, right? This was
- 53:02Speaker 3: his pop game showcase opportunity for him. So is it
- 53:06Speaker 3: the same for Yakko?
- 53:07Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 53:08Speaker 3: Levi Harper, defenseman from the Saginaw Spirit. Brandon's top pick
- 53:13Speaker 3: going into the NHL drought. His defenseman of the year
- 53:15Speaker 3: pick for BC. Vilmer Salen Forsberg, the Viking. The best
- 53:19Speaker 3: name in the OHL. Vilmer Gustav Viking Salen Forsberg, the
- 53:24Speaker 3: goaltender at Brantford. He's the goaltender. He's been great. He's
- 53:27Speaker 3: getting hotter and hotter. The guy you've talked about, Joel
- 53:30Speaker 3: Alex Kuhlman from the Kings and Frontenacs. Scoring a ton now.
- 53:34Speaker 3: He's scoring a ton. And Ryerson Edgar. Other than Edgar
- 53:37Speaker 3: Ice Dogs being that number one center for the The
- 53:41Speaker 3: Niagara Ice Dogs, good opportunity for him. What do you
- 53:45Speaker 3: think about these six names being the first to be
- 53:47Speaker 3: named to the team CHL for the game?
- 53:51Speaker 2: I think, like you mentioned, right, it's kind of the
- 53:53Speaker 2: six you expected. You look at Ed Vilmore, he's a
- 53:57Speaker 2: big goalie. He's the kind of.
- 53:58Speaker 3: The prototypical.
- 54:03Speaker 2: Style, the size that scouts want to see. Alex Kuhlman's
- 54:07Speaker 2: been excellent in Kingston. Like you mentioned, he's been a
- 54:11Speaker 2: driver in their 8-2 record in the month.
- 54:14Speaker 3: I think it's a great opportunity for Yakov Lysik, too,
- 54:18Speaker 3: especially after how good he was at the Hellenic Agretsky
- 54:20Speaker 3: to keep that momentum going.
- 54:23Speaker 2: And he has a good stepping stone here in this game.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Then he goes on a good Memorial Cup run.
- 54:28Speaker 5: He's going to be looking up and scouts are going
- 54:30Speaker 5: to be like, hey, Yakov Lysik's a name that we've
- 54:34Speaker 5: seen in these high-pressure moments, these high-pressure games, continuously strive through.
- 54:38Speaker 2: So, And then like you mentioned with Levi Harper, he's
- 54:42Speaker 2: a guy that Brandon's so high on, right?
- 54:45Speaker 3: And there's a.
- 54:46Speaker 2: Reason for that.
- 54:47Speaker 3: So I definitely really agree with the six going. And
- 54:51Speaker 3: I think they are the six that we all kind
- 54:54Speaker 3: of expected would get the early nomination. Absolutely. I mean,
- 54:59Speaker 3: I love the game. I love the little series they do.
- 55:01Speaker 3: I think that's cool. Last year with the overtime there
- 55:03Speaker 3: to win it, that's more dramatic. Hopefully it's getting here
- 55:07Speaker 3: for the program. And, you know, you can argue it.
- 55:10Speaker 3: You can say, well, the program, if it's not a
- 55:14Speaker 3: strong year for them and the CHL has Matthew Schaefer,
- 55:17Speaker 3: Porter Martone going at them, you know, it's a tough one.
- 55:21Speaker 3: But on the flip side, the U.S. team has been
- 55:24Speaker 3: together for a full season, right? So there's kind of
- 55:26Speaker 3: back and forth. We'll get to the players of the month.
- 55:30Speaker 3: Players of the month this week, or this month of October.
- 55:35Speaker 3: in the Ontario hockey league player of the month. We'll
- 55:38Speaker 3: start with Ryan Robrick of the Guelph storm, 22 points
- 55:41Speaker 3: in 13 games, Joel, 14 goals in 13 games, plus
- 55:44Speaker 3: 10 average, um, over a goal, a game, great opportunity.
- 55:49Speaker 3: It's nice to see him go to Guelph, get that opportunity,
- 55:51Speaker 3: be on a competitive team that, you know, it's going
- 55:53Speaker 3: to be competitive for a full season. You don't have
- 55:55Speaker 3: to worry about a 10 game losing streak after the
- 55:57Speaker 3: Christmas break. Um, like there has been, um, I think
- 56:01Speaker 3: it's great for him and Ethan's out of the being
- 56:03Speaker 3: Guelph and for Ryan Robrick player of the month in
- 56:05Speaker 3: the OHL. What a, what a month he's had.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Big time goal score 30 last year and 49 games
- 56:12Speaker 2: the year before that 41 and 64.
- 56:15Speaker 3: And now, like you mentioned over a goal game. And
- 56:18Speaker 3: I think it's an excellent opportunity for him to, to
- 56:21Speaker 3: really showcase the type of player he is, the type
- 56:24Speaker 3: of player that.
- 56:25Speaker 2: That everyone expected when he came out into the OHL
- 56:28Speaker 2: draft and, He was excellent in Niagara. The team just
- 56:33Speaker 2: couldn't get over that hump, right?
- 56:34Speaker 3: It happens. And I think, you know, you look at.
- 56:38Speaker 2: The size, 6'3, upwards of 220, big kid. Chicago drafts
- 56:45Speaker 2: well out of the OHL, as you know, in Brantford.
- 56:49Speaker 2: So they're scouting him a lot, and they're very high
- 56:53Speaker 2: on him, and I think this is a really big
- 56:55Speaker 2: stepping stone for him and taking on that leadership, taking
- 56:59Speaker 2: on the pressure of the Mem Cup. And he's been
- 57:02Speaker 2: nothing short of excellent with all that on his shoulders
- 57:06Speaker 2: and well-deserved. Obviously, the stats back up the eye test there. Absolutely.
- 57:14Speaker 3: Defensive of the Month, sticking with the Guelph Storm, Vlade.
- 57:17Speaker 3: Vlade Mandrzejewski. 20 points in 13 games, 4 goals, 16 assists,
- 57:21Speaker 3: plus 12 for the 5th round pick by the New
- 57:24Speaker 3: York Islanders this past draft. You want to talk about
- 57:27Speaker 3: a steal for the Islanders. The fact that Vladimir Drevetsky
- 57:30Speaker 3: was there in the 5th round. I mean, we already
- 57:32Speaker 3: know some of these guys went undrafted. The J.C. Lemus,
- 57:34Speaker 3: Lane Gallagher. You know, there's a lot of good players
- 57:37Speaker 3: that went undrafted.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Brady Wasslin.
- 57:40Speaker 3: But for Vladimir Drevetsky to go in the 5th round
- 57:42Speaker 3: in the training camp he had with the Islanders, Joel. Like,
- 57:46Speaker 3: player of the month, defenseman of the month. For the OHL,
- 57:50Speaker 3: what a first month for him coming back from Islanders camp.
- 57:55Speaker 3: Already signed, too, by the Islanders as a fifth rounder.
- 58:00Speaker 3: He's a great player.
- 58:02Speaker 2: You saw him all last year in Brantford, and he's
- 58:06Speaker 2: going to have another good World Juniors for Team Czechia.
- 58:11Speaker 2: He's a guy that they went after early in the offseason, Guelph.
- 58:15Speaker 2: They targeted him.
- 58:17Speaker 3: To be one of their mainstays on the back end,
- 58:19Speaker 3: and it's no secret why they did that, and the
- 58:24Speaker 3: offense is coming. He's got 20 points in 13 games.
- 58:28Speaker 3: He had 28 all of last year, so.
- 58:31Speaker 2: He's really coming into his own, and like you mentioned,
- 58:35Speaker 2: after that strong camp with the Islanders, it gave him
- 58:37Speaker 2: all the world of confidence, signing the contract, being known
- 58:41Speaker 2: that he was one of the guys they targeted right away,
- 58:44Speaker 2: it's It's all great for his confidence and well-deserved honor
- 58:49Speaker 2: for Dreweski there.
- 58:51Speaker 3: 100%. It's funny. We talked about NHL prospects, and now
- 58:53Speaker 3: we get to the beauty of the NCAA agreement with
- 58:56Speaker 3: the CHL. Goaltender of the month, Paolo Frasca, the Sudbury Wolves,
- 58:59Speaker 3: 9-1 this month, 1.98 goals against Juul, 939 save percentage,
- 59:02Speaker 3: one shutout, 306 saves over the over the 10 starts
- 59:11Speaker 3: for him this month palo frasca goaltending the month of
- 59:14Speaker 3: the sudbury wolves it's the beauty of the agreement with
- 59:17Speaker 3: the ncaa right and i mean sudbury if they're going
- 59:19Speaker 3: to be a competitive team which i expect them to
- 59:21Speaker 3: be your goaltending god take you.
- 59:23Speaker 2: There yeah and like you mentioned right playing in the
- 59:27Speaker 2: bch help putting up great numbers 9.39 save percentage with
- 59:32Speaker 2: the Victoria Grizzlies before he moves on to the Ontario Hockey.
- 59:35Speaker 3: League, and he's got a 9.33 save percentage this year, Colin.
- 59:39Speaker 3: He's 9-2. And hey, look at the NHL. Look at
- 59:43Speaker 3: the NHL thing where people are saying 8-9 is a
- 59:45Speaker 3: great save percentage now in the NHL.
- 59:52Speaker 2: Yeah. You look at that subreddit team, J.C. Lemieux, but
- 59:58Speaker 2: then it's It's cash, and it's Tanner Adams, and I
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: know he's been out to Adams, but they've got some
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: young hockey players on that team, and that backbone of
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Frasca is so valuable to them. And it allows those
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: guys to have that, okay, we can make a mistake, and,
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: you know, and.
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: Proveroff, Gonchar, they've got all the skill in the world.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: There's a reason they lead the Central Division.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: You can play free with those guys, right? When you
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: have a goaltender, you can play free and take chances.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: And it's, yeah, and it's, it's, it's been impressive, and
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: he's a guy that, that played junior A, developed, and
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: came over, and it's like we talked about with the
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: beauty of, of Brantford with these APs, is.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: Having those guys that you see that are playing tier,
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: tier two junior A, and, and looking at them, and saying, hey,
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: there is something here, and, and making sure that you
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: get the most out of these guys, and yeah, I'm
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: really happy to see, see him succeed in Sudbury, and
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: and get his chance.
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: Zach Jovanovsky of the Gulf Storm was also considered for
- 1:01:05Speaker 3: Goal Tender of the Month this month for the OHL.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: He went 7-0 this month, Joel, 1.99 goals against, and
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: a 9.26 save percentage with two shutouts over seven appearances
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: for Zach Jovanovsky. What a competition this October was for
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: the Ontario Hockey League. Rookie of the Month, Bogdan Jakubzewski.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: I think I nailed that name, I hope. You know, hey, 17-year-old,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: 19 points in 15 games, 10 goals, 9 assists, plus 9.
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: Maybe we'll see him on the World Junior roster and
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: see him there. Because what a month for him. Rookie
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: of the month, Bogdan Yakoshevsky of the Windsor Spitfires. Rookie
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: of the month in the OHL. Great opportunity in your
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: way from home, right? It's got to be tough.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it definitely does. And you look at him, and
- 1:01:54Speaker 2: he's got 10 goals in 16 games. I mean, you
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: look at the closest competitor in rookie scoring, it's Aiden
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: Kelly with 16 and 14.
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: It's a good year for rookies in the Ontario hockey league, Colin.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: It's stacked. And it's Tyler Hind in Oshawa. You look
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: down the list, Trevor Daly Jr., Bogdan. Like, it's so
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: exciting to see these guys come in and succeed right away,
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: put up the points. And, yeah, a well-deserved honor for him.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: with the stats he's putting up on a good Windsor team. Absolutely.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: I mean, you'll love to see it. Players of the
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: Week in the Ontario High. Here we get to Players
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: of the Week. That was your Players of the Month.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: Players of the Week. We'll start with Prospect of the
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: Week from the Caledonia Corvairs. We're off to a great
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: start in the GEO. Nolan Garrow of the Corvairs, a
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: Peterborough Peaks draft pick. He has four points in two games.
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: I'll get to now the Rookie of the Week. Joel,
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: a guy you know well. Royden Smith, goaltender of the
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: Kingston Frontenacs, 2-0,. 50 goals against, 977 save percentage, one shutout,
- 1:03:04Speaker 3: 42 saves in two games, Joel. Goaltender, Rookie of the Week,
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Royden Smith of the Kingston Frontenacs. He's been outstanding.
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: He's, for a guy that I think a lot of
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: people thought would be in Wellington, I mean, the Gavin
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: Betts with the injury and all that, but.
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: To have him show what he's shown early, he's put
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: himself on draft lists with his start.
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: And it's been amazing. And to have that backbone, Minchuk, Smith,
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: they have Betts too. They have great goaltending in Kingston.
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: And it's really great to see him take that year
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: in Wellington last year and really come into his own
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: now in Kingston and fight for the net with two
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: very good goaltenders in there already.
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: And you know what he's going to do? He's going
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: to move somebody out. You've got to think Kingston's going
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: to make a moving net with the way Royden's playing.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: I mean, you're not going to take the net away
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: from him, right? And if you're Troy Mann and staff,
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: you've got to be loyal to the guys, to the
- 1:04:07Speaker 3: hot hand. And right now there's no doubt who the
- 1:04:09Speaker 3: hot hand is in Kingston. Yeah, I totally agree with that.
- 1:04:14Speaker 3: Bully of the week. And, I mean, it's tough for
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: Royden Smith to win goaltender of the week because Michael
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: Newlove of the Windsor Spitfires, 3-0, perfect save percentage. Perfect
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: goals against, three shutouts, 81 saves. No doubt, goaltender of
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: the week. This might be the easiest one for the
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: OHL and company for goaltender of the week for this week,
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: for the first weekend of November.
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: Can't beat perfect. And if you look at Royden Smith,
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: he came pretty darn close to being.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: Almost at that level with a 977 save percentage. so
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: in your in your in your rookie yeah at least
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: he's a rookie because it's a hard snub yeah i
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: mean michael new love perfect i mean that's it's a
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: no doubt easy one this week i mean the goaltending
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: competition it's funny a national hockey league all we're hearing
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: is a good eight percentage is 8.9 8.8 the ohl
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: saying hey We don't have a goaltending problem. Do we
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: have a problem scoring goals? I don't think so. The
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: Ottawa 67 player of the week doesn't say it's a
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: hard time scoring goals because player of the week, Andre Rumel,
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: three games played, six points, three goals, three assists, plus
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: two for the avalanche pick. Andre Rumel, Ottawa 67, OHL,
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: player of the week this week. Yeah, and he's been
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: outstanding to start the season. And you can see Ottawa
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: starting to get going too.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Here a little bit um they're gonna play kinks and
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: that's gonna be a big game wednesday at 10 30 a.m
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: school day school day games and uh yeah that's gonna
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: be i mean they played they played they played a
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: few times this year and they've been really good games
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: and um yeah rommel's hot voyden smith's hot they're gonna
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: meet 10 30 a.m on.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: Wednesday hey i can tell you right now i don't
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: like the games now being a crusty adult but when
- 1:06:08Speaker 3: i was a kid i would have loved this Growing
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: up a Knights fan, if they had a school day game,
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: not that that would ever happen, but if they had
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: a school day game, I'd be all over my teachers.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: We gotta go, we gotta go. I'd be all over that.
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: Or I'd probably play hooky and go to the game
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: anyway and call it a day. The only reason why
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: I wish this wasn't a school day game, because I
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: want it to be the primetime game, you know, a
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: Wednesday night. There's not a lot of games on Sarnia
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: when Sound are on as well. That's a huge game
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: for the directions of those hockey clubs, but I really
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: wish this was a prime time, you know, the only
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: game on at that day. And everyone in the OHL universe,
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: DHL universe is watching the game because what a treat
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: that's going to be in that rivalry.
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: Yeah, Kingston 4-0 in their last four, 8-2 in their
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: last 10. Ottawa starting to get going, 6-3 in their
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: last nine.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: It's prime time hockey. And it's two teams that don't
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: really like each other as well. And two very good
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: hockey coaches in Troy Mann and Dave Cameron.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: 100%.
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to be a treat to watch. And
- 1:07:15Speaker 3: those kids are going to be.
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: In for some good hockey.
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Bring the Tylenol if you're calling the game.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Or the Advil. Bring the headache reliefs. It's a loud
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: environment for school day games. We'll get to stick taps
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: of the week as we round things out here with
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: power ranking stick taps of the week and Friday night
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: face-off predictions. Joel, stick tap of the week. Brought to

- 1:08:08Speaker 2: Here you go.
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: Me saying this, you know this is a heck of
- 1:08:13Speaker 3: a read because you know I'm going to rant about this.
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: But if you want your 8-year-old to make the NHL,
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: get Butt-Ens. He'll score a 50 and he'll make the NHL. Butt-Ens.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: It's the best. I mean, I love them. They're great
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: to use.
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: So, Butt-Ens.
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: Stick Taps of the Week. Appreciate the sponsorship there. And
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: Stick Tap of the Week, Joel. Who you got?
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: I'm going to go with the Kingston Frontenacs beating the
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: Brantford Bulldogs 5-0. And the way I'm going to go
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: with this is the Kingston Frontenacs have struggled with Brantford
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: over the course of the last three years. And for
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: them to come out and have that game and the
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: way they were prepared for that hockey game, it shows
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: me that they are tapering. that next step which is
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: what they have to do in this maturation process my
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: man's been there a few years now and they've made
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: the playoffs and they've had winning records but now it
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: kind of feels like it's you need that it's time
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: to take that next step royden smith's been excellent they
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: made the move early adding zarowski Kuhlman Schneider in their
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: draft years have been, have been outstanding. You have, you
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: had the Euros come over.
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: It feels like now is kind of the time to, Hey, it's, it's,
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: it's coming. What we've been working on is coming.
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Um, so I think, I think that game was, was
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: a little bit of a statement and I know, um,
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: from the Brantford side, yeah, they didn't come in as
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: prepared as they should. Um, just talking to some of
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: the media members in Bramford. But it was, it's encouraging
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: to see that because earlier in the season, it was
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: the flip of that, right?
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: Yeah. It was. You know, I said it.
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: And I, and I believe in, I think you're on
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: the same wavelength as me here. Looking up in January,
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: those teams are going to be at the top of
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: the Eastern division. those teams, if, if Brantford can continue and,
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: and Stu Hyman is, is going to, he's, they're going
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: to make the moves. They're, they're going to stay competitive.
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: It's what they do.
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: And one game doesn't define that. And I think those
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: two teams are on a path to keep this thing going.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: And it's going to be really interesting when you, when
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: you look up in January and say, Hey, Ottawa, Kingston,
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Brantford are all going to be really good hockey teams. And, um, Yeah,
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: I think it was an encouraging game from them because
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: of their past struggles against that hockey club.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: That 10-2 game for Kingston was so beneficial for that
- 1:10:59Speaker 3: season series. For the head-to-head confidence, I mean, that was
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: huge for Kingston. I know to lose 10-2, you're thinking, Colin,
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: you're crazy. But no, that, to lose 10-2, either get buy-in,
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: you know what you got if you're Troy Mann and staff, right?
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: When you lose a game like that, you know, hey,
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: when you go back to the drawing board, You know
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: what type of desperation you have in your hockey club.
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: You know what you got. Love the pick, Joel. The
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: Kings of Groton, actually. You're sick of tapping the weak
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: percent of my butt ends. I'm going to go with
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: Edveni Dobrotsev of the North Bay Battalion. The most underrated
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: player right now in the OHL. He's got 14 goals
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: in 17 games, and he's not talked about. He's not
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: talked about. And I didn't even talk about re-entries in
- 1:11:42Speaker 3: the National Hockey League draft. I mentioned all these undrafted players.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: If any, Debra, it's a 14 goals and 17 games
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: of the North Bay battalion. And nobody's talking about them.
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: And I think that's why I got to go get
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: my stick tap of the week. Good. Benny Debra. Seth, um,
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: of the North Bay battalion. I mean, 14 in 17, uh,
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: have a start. And, uh, you gotta love that, uh,
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: for the opportunity in the Ontario hockey league. Two more
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: things before we run out the show on this week's episode, Joel,
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: appreciate you being the guest co-host this week. Um, BC's gone.
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: We haven't even fixed the NFL. We haven't even fixed
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: our NFL team for the trade deadline. We haven't did
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: any of that, Joel. I can't believe it. The power rankings.
- 1:12:26Speaker 3: Power rankings, the biggest hot topic of the week on
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: social media in the OHL universe because everyone cares about them,
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: but they mean nothing. But everyone loves them. We'll start
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: with number 16. The Oshawa Generals move up into the top,
- 1:12:41Speaker 3: into the Sweet 16 this week.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: They're at 16.
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: The Sarnia Sting dropped four spots to 15. The Saginaw
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: Spirit dropped four spots, but I expect them to go
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: up to 14th. The Peterborough Peets go up one spot
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: to 13. They're starting to score goals in that division, Joel.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: That was a big win for them on Thursday over Brantford.
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: Big win in overtime against the Ice Dogs on Sunday,
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: the weekend for the Peterborough Peets. North Bay goes up 1-12.
- 1:13:06Speaker 3: Erie goes up 1-11. Windsor goes up 7. Michael Newlove,
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: the former red blob to the helicopter landing pad this year,
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: goes up to 10th. Sioux, they stay the same. The
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: Greyhounds stay at 9. Ottawa 67s drop 2-8. The Brantford
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: Bulldogs drop 2-7. How about them defending Memorial Cup champions?
- 1:13:31Speaker 3: The reigning champs, Kitchener Rangers.
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: Go up two to number six. The London Knights go
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: up two to number five. The Sudbury Wolves remain the
- 1:13:40Speaker 3: same at number three. The Flint Firebirds drop two spots
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: to number three. The Kings and Frontenacs go up one
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: spot to number two. And the Guelph Storm go up
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: one spot to number one. The Guelph Storm, number one
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: on this week's Power Ranking. Joel, any complaints about the
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: Power Rankings this week? Or what's your thoughts on the
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: rankings this week in the Ontario Hockey League Power Rankings?
- 1:14:04Speaker 3: I think it's a pretty good list. I mean, everyone's
- 1:14:08Speaker 3: going to have their thoughts, right?
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: This team's too low.
- 1:14:11Speaker 3: This team's too high. It's clickbait.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's semantics, right? It's, I like this guy. This
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: guy's on a hot streak, right? But I think at
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: the end of the day, I like that the OHL
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: does it because I like that it creates talking points
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: around the league. It creates, you know, every Monday you're
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: looking for, right? you're looking, Hey, where's my team going
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: to be? They had a good week. Right.
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: And it's, I think it's fun.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: I think it's, it's something that, um, I know people
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: have their, their certain thoughts on it, but at the
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: end of the day, I, I, I think it's a
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: pretty good ranking. I mean, I think there wasn't too
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: much Windsor jump seven.
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: Yeah. Um, I mean, they're cool. Statement winning all in sound. Yeah.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Well, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: So, I mean, I think outside of that, most teams
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: stayed around where they were, right?
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: It's two spots up, two spots down.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: Sioux stayed where they were. So, I think it's a
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: pretty solid ranking.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: And I think when you get the big swings, it's
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: what kind of creates the eye candy.
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: We all like those. Yeah. You know what? I agree.
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's, I have all my thoughts
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: on the power rankings and I read into it. I
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: don't read into it, but every time it's on, every
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: time it's posted, I look, I think a lot of
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: fancy that as well. A Friday face up before we
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: wrap things up for this week's episode of the OHL
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: and 60 podcast. Appreciate everyone who's stayed tuned to this
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: week's episode. It's the Erie honors at the Flint firebirds,
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: all American matchup, Pennsylvania versus Michigan. Otters eight and eight,
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: six and two Flint firebirds, 11, three and one to
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: start the season. Joel, who, who we advising beat cap
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: for his picks this week, who we advising for the
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: advisors for his picks.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: That's tough.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: So I have some in-depth stats for those fans who
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: haven't done this yet. The score app has been incredible
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: for OHL consumers. Um, It's cool. The average age of teams,
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: the average weight of teams, all the in-depth for stat nerds.
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: It's the best. Goals per game for the Flint Firebirds, 3.73. Joel,
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: they're 7th in the OHL. Erie Otters, 2.94 goals a game.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: They're 17th. Shots on goal, 30.9 a game for Flint. 32.3
- 1:16:42Speaker 3: for Erie. So it's going to be a high-octane game.
- 1:16:51Speaker 3: Power plays are ranked 10th for Erie, 14th for Flint.
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: Shooting percentage, 7th for Flint. So they score a lot
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: of goals. Goals allowed, though. And I know you like
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: defensive hockey, Joel. Goals allowed, Flint. They're the tops in
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: the OHL for the least amount of goals a game,
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: and that speaks to their record with 11 wins already. 2.6
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: goals allowed per game is their average. I mean, I'm
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: kind of leaning to the Firebirds. But they got to
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: stay out of the box in the game. They take
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: the second most penalties in the league. They got to
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: stay out of the box. Flint is where I'm leaning
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: as well.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: Jimmy Lombardi's 20 points and 14. He's off to a
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: tremendous start. I mean, you look at their goaltending. You
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: talked about it. They got two guys they can roll
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: out there.
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: Trenton Bennett's got a 936 save percentage. What's up with
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: goalies in the NHL not being like the OHL? It's
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: a goalie. I love it. And you look at Trent Bennett, 6'8. Yeah.
- 1:17:53Speaker 3: Mason Corville's 7'2. He's a veteran goaltender now in the league.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: Yeah, you got a legit backup behind him in Bennett.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: You can roll him out. You can keep him healthy,
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: keep him rested. They're pushing each other every day, too. Yeah.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Lombardi can score. Cooper Williams can score. He's got 13
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: in 15 games. He's got 10 assists in 15 games.
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: They've got a good hockey team. Charlie Mertner is a
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: good young player.
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: But then on the Erie side, Igorov is a guy
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: that can easily steal you a game. You've watched him
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: for a long time in Brantford. He's been a guy
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: that's in depth there, Erie.
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: They're 8-6. Liam Beamish was a nice pickup from Sarnia.
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: Ty Henry's finally healthy on the back.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: End.
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: Yeah, so I think it's going to be an interesting
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: hockey game. I would give... If Brandon asked for my advice,
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: I would lean Flint. Me too. But it's a hesitant.
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: Just because of the defensive kind of thing there and.
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: And the goaltending. Yep.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: But, I mean, you just talk about goaltending. Igorov's also
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: a very solid customer.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's going to be a good game.
- 1:19:21Speaker 2: I think, like you mentioned, that's what you want for
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: the Friday night primetime.
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: You want eyes on the game, and they picked a
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: good one. Absolutely, they did. I mean, I couldn't have
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: said it any better.
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: I'm going to lean Flynn as well.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: Flip a coin. flip a coin for the results, uh,
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: and branding lean with that. But I, I agree with
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: Flynn as well. Um, but the exact same reasons, but, uh,
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: that's going to do it for this edition of the podcast. Joel,
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: appreciate you joining.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: Me this week.
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: I don't think we have anything more to add. We
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: fixed the league. Um, we didn't fix football, but we
- 1:19:52Speaker 3: do that off air. Um, it's a hockey podcast. We
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: can go on for hours. If we got into college,
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: the NFL, we can go on for hours on that. But, uh,
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: Appreciate you taking the time, Joel. Can't wait to have
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: you on again. I mean, this was a blast through
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: me and I hope you, hope you enjoyed as well. Yeah,
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: it was a lot of fun.
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: I always enjoyed talking to hockey with you and we've
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: been doing this a long time and it's, it's always,
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: it's always nice to get your insights and I really
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: enjoy just, you know, when you're at the games, getting
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: the text about what's going on and the rants.
- 1:20:25Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, yeah, let's be honest. They're, they're rants.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: So, but no, you, I'll say this. You, you care
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: about this league. You care about junior hockey. You put
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: a lot of time and work into what you're doing.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: And, um, it's, it's, it's nice to have, it's nice
- 1:20:43Speaker 3: to listen to tune in and see, see.
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: That and, and know how much you care about, about
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: the league and, and, and all that.
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: So it's, it's, it's tremendous.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: And, uh, yeah, I appreciate you just having me on
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: and spending an hour with you, but it's, it's great.
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: So, Getting you on the podcast is kind of like
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: when I got to do an article with you where
- 1:21:04Speaker 3: it is yap, yap, yap. It's like, Colin, we got
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: nothing done here. Yeah, it's like, oh. Put it on
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: the paper. Yeah. Bonus. Yeah. But no, I appreciate you, Joel,
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: for taking the time. I know a lot of our
- 1:21:18Speaker 3: listeners enjoy your articles on the website and the editing
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: side there. It's been a busy year on the armchair. um,
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: with all the edits and all the, uh, articles. I mean,
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: it's been a blast on the OHL portion. I know
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: the Savers as well with Brandon, what he's got going here. Um,
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: it's been incredible. It's nice that we get to play
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: a part of it.
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's, it's Brandon's doing a great job, uh, and,
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: and a great, it's great to be given the opportunity to,
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: to do this.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: So I'm really thankful for him. And, uh, yeah, it's,
- 1:21:45Speaker 3: it's been a busy year. It's, I can't believe it.
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: It's already November 2nd. So it's been a lot more
- 1:21:51Speaker 3: to come with, with the U 17, uh, Team Canada stuff.
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: So keep an eye out for that on the website.
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: Working through that now with Brandon.
- 1:21:59Speaker 2: So we'll have articles throughout the week and into next
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: week probably as well with that. So, yeah, I just
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: did one up on Tanner Adams, the star forward from
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: the Sudbury Wolves.
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: So it's great. We'll touch on that next week. That'll
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: be a blast. That's going to wrap up for another
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: episode of the OHL in 60 podcast right here on
