We often live as though our spiritual, emotional, and mental stamina are drawn from a well inside ourselves. When difficulties mount, our default instinct is to pull up our socks, try harder, and summon more willpower. But Paul writes this verse at the tail end of his letter to the Ephesians for a crucial reason: after describing what a holy, Christ-centered life looks like, he reminds us that we cannot live it on our own energy.
