- 0:08Gotta get right to it. It is a show five thousand and eight,
- 0:13Tuesday, March fifth, Super Tuesday across the country. Trump will be on
- 0:17all ballots and it's The Morning Show with Preston Scott. Great to be with
- 0:21you this morning, everybody. Thanks so much for joining us. Grant Allen
- 0:25over there running the program and great to have back on the show. It's
- 0:28been a minute, as the kids like to say us. Congresswoman Kat Cammick,
- 0:32Florida's third congressional district, how are you, Kat? Good mornin.
- 0:37Always great to be back with you. I feel like I need walk up
- 0:40music, you know, like we need like a theme song for you.
- 0:44It's it's been a minute since you've been with us, So there's so many
- 0:49things to talk about. What let me just let me turn this around.
- 0:53If you were, you know, calling the shots, and you had had
- 1:00people across America listening to you as you do, what's what's most important on
- 1:07your mind right now? As a member of Congress, Oh man, if
- 1:11I were queen for a day, well, first walk up music, theme
- 1:14song, entrance music. It has to be Tom Petty, you know,
- 1:18won't back down, you know, especially Repen the Gator nation. Of course,
- 1:21got to make sure that you're you know, paying tribute to the man.
- 1:26But obviously the hill to die on for us is the border. So
- 1:30within the first millisecond, it would be securing the border. That that has
- 1:36to be the first thing I would this. This is why I could never
- 1:42probably run for for higher national office, because I would flash and burn so
- 1:47many federal agencies that it would be unrecognizable. I would cut so many government
- 1:53agencies and unelected, nameless, faithless bureaucrats that it would be unreal. I
- 2:00I would pair down the size of government by like eighty percent or so.
- 2:02It's just so overgrown, And that right there would solve so many problems.
- 2:08Because you think about the regulatory environment, you think about how Congress is essentially
- 2:14hamstrung. It's because of the imbalance in Washington. The founding fathers always wanted
- 2:21us, through Article on Authority, to make the laws, to have the
- 2:24most power of the people leveraged so that the executive branch would execute on those
- 2:30laws. Well, now we have effectively an imperial presidency, so it's completely
- 2:36out of whack. So of course I think border would be number one.
- 2:40Slashing the size of government would be number two, instituting a structured debt repayment
- 2:46plan. Number three. No one ever gets to ask. No one asks
- 2:51me these questions, Preston. It's like if I was queaned for the day,
- 2:53what would I do? There's just so much, see I think,
- 2:58And I'm glad I asked the quoest question. And and you're one of the
- 3:01sharpest members of Congress that I know of, Congresswoman, and I think it's
- 3:07sometimes it is important for each of you individually. I hate to sound like
- 3:12dear old dad, although I am old enough. I think it's important for
- 3:15you to think about it that way. You know, this is a story
- 3:21that we talked about earlier in the program, and I know it's near and
- 3:23dear to your heart because you know Florida's role in agriculture across the country.
- 3:28But to kind of merge all this together, we're funding Ukrainian farmers, and
- 3:34we're supporting the Ukrainian border and protecting it. We're not protecting American farmers.
- 3:38We're not protecting our border. Let's talk about agriculture for a second. What's
- 3:44it going to take to turn around what's going on in the regulatory environment and
- 3:51just in general to keep farmers from going out of business every day. Oh
- 3:54it's and it's so important for Florida. Florida is a massive state, top
- 4:00ten in the nation, number one in cowcaf production, three hundred specialty crops.
- 4:04I mean, people always think about our state's economy and they think it's
- 4:10you know, yeah, they think they think that it's tourism. And in
- 4:15any given year, agriculture is the number one economic driver. Of course,
- 4:20tourism is a big one. Sometimes it's number one, sometimes it's number two.
- 4:24But we have the most to lose if we continue to erode agricultural production
- 4:29and support in this country. And of course the farm bill is coming up
- 4:32and everyone's very very focused on that. That being said, I don't think
- 4:38that there is a legislative piece of work that is going to save us from
- 4:43this mess. It will help, but we have to stop thinking about agriculture
- 4:48in the United States as a nice to do, and we have to start
- 4:54thinking about it as a need to do. This is national security. A
- 4:57nation that can't feed itself is not secure, and we are dangerously close with
- 5:02all those things that are happening to the family farms around the country. The
- 5:06EPA, the cost of input, fuel, labor, all these things that
- 5:12are continually happening that are just unsustainable. You think about in Florida, we
- 5:17have so many multi generational operations and the thing that is so heartbreaking to me
- 5:23is I'll talk to these families and their newest generation that is part of the
- 5:28operation. There's always at least one kid that is in real estate and they're
- 5:32selling off pieces of the family farm. Don't forget to subscribe to the Conversations
- 5:36with Preston Scott podcast on the iHeartRadio app. Welcome to the Morning Show with
- 5:42Preston Scott, continuing with Congresswoman Cat Camick. All right, in a minute
- 5:50or less, react to this. How do we keep Bill Gates from single
- 5:55handedly ruining the cattle industry because he's endeavoring to do that. How do we
- 6:00make some carve outs and make sure that we incentivize people to grow, you
- 6:04know, raise cattle to you know, to survive this. A lot of
- 6:11that has to do with the regulatory environment and President you and I both know
- 6:15that's my number one thing is we've got to get these nameless faith with beeraucrats
- 6:19out of the way, you know, respecting personal private property rights that is
- 6:26a core fundamental issue in this country, and we are seeing more and more
- 6:30assaults on that. You have to protect a family farm. You have to
- 6:34make it so that we don't have ridiculous tax structures that force people to sell
- 6:39the family farm to these people like Bill Gates, or even worse, you've
- 6:43got these Chinese nationals that are doing the bidding of the CCP, buying up
- 6:47farmland all over America. We have got to get back to a place of
- 6:51incentivizing all the right things rather than continuing to punish people for success. We'll
- 6:58expand on this next Monthfully we can carve out a little bit more time.
- 7:01I want to get your thoughts on the continuing resolution plague that is hit government
- 7:08for decades. Now, how do we get out of this pattern of crs
- 7:13And we say, Okay, we're going to do one more. It's going
- 7:16to get us through the rest of the year and then it's a budget next
- 7:19year, or we're not doing anything. We're going to shut government down because
- 7:23a bunch of us aren't really scared of the government shutting down. Yeah,
- 7:28and I absolutely despise crs, these continuing resolutions. I have not supported one
- 7:32and I don't know why. But now all of a sudden, some of
- 7:36my good friends, could conservative friends, are saying we should do a year
- 7:41long cr with a one percent cut. A couple of things on that it's
- 7:45going to lead us right back to where we are because people just they haven't
- 7:48felt the pain and there's no consequences. The other thing is a R is
- 7:54just a rubber stamp of Nancy Pelosi's policies. Exactly. I would damned if
- 7:59I'm going to her horrific, destructive policies. And then the other thing is
- 8:03everyone says, oh, well, you know, I had a couple of
- 8:05my good friends like Chip Roy and others like Kat we need that one percent
- 8:11cut. I said, we need way more than one percent cut. And
- 8:13also, let us not forget when you do a er and you do it
- 8:16with a cut, the president, the OMB director, and the president are
- 8:22the ones that determine where those cuts come from. And if people think for
- 8:24one second that Biden is going to be okay with across the board cut,
- 8:30no, they're going to cut us where it hurts Republicans most, or it
- 8:33hurts rural America most, and he's going to protect things in the urban clusters
- 8:37and areas where there's blue states and cities. So there's that element. But
- 8:43then Preston, there's another thing that I always hit on that no one wants
- 8:46to talk about, and that's with the fact that the one percent cut would
- 8:52basically equate to what we borrow in a week. If we're borrowing seven point
- 8:56eight billion dollars a day, and that one percent cut comes out to you
- 9:03know, that delta is about a week's worth of borrowing. Don't stand there
- 9:07and tell me that you're some fiscal conservative and that you are all in for
- 9:11fighting. No, we need to really take a hatchet to it. We've
- 9:13got to start going after all the debt and the interest on the debt,
- 9:18which has now outpaced our defense spending. There's real problems, and the politics
- 9:24of telling people that you're fighting for fiscal conservatism insanity. It's just it's so
- 9:31wrong when people are like, yeah, but we're doing this and we're doing
- 9:33that, and like, yeah, you're literally scratching the surface. Yep,
- 9:37we're going to be right back where we were just a year ago. It's
- 9:39sad you're fighting members of your own party on this, and it's something we
- 9:45ya. We lament that last thing we have been really focused on the January
- 9:50sixth what i'll call political prisoners that we have, And the latest example of
- 9:56the weaponization of government is the reporter for Blake Media, Stephen Baker, being
- 10:01marched out. This is a reporter charged with four misdemeanors. Congresswoman. He
- 10:05was marched out in leg chains, handcuffed with belly chains. He's been charged
- 10:13with four misdemeanors in essence for what he wrote. What the heck is going
- 10:18on? This is not America, This is not America. This is not
- 10:22the America that we all know and love. This is so wrong. And
- 10:26when we talk about the weaponization of government, it's real, Yes it is.
- 10:31I mean, you see obviously four misdemeanors and they're treated like that.
- 10:35Meanwhile, you can be in illegal in this country with a rap sheet,
- 10:39commit crimes, be released the very next day on no cash bail, murder
- 10:43someone, and you're still treated better than that individual. It's just it's absolutely
- 10:52mind blowing and a sign of how far away we've gotten from just the basics.
- 10:56But I will say this week we have another weaponization hearing, and I
- 11:01think this is so important that people start paying attention to this Bank of America
- 11:05and other financial institutions voluntarily took our information, and by our I mean everyday
- 11:11Americans. And they said, if you shop at bath Pro, if you
- 11:15shop at Cabella's Right, if you shop at these places, you are now
- 11:18going to be under a lens where you could consider you a domestic terrorist or
- 11:26an extremist. And I mean, so you know, color me guilty apparently
- 11:30because I do shop at mass Pro. And this is again flying in the
- 11:35face of our constitutional rights and protections. There's no Fourth Amendment protections that that
- 11:41they are that they're using. They're saying, well, we didn't need a
- 11:43warrant, we we Well, actually you do need a warrant because all that
- 11:46information went to the dj and the FBI, and they're using that to basically
- 11:52build this this hollow case of domestic extremism, and they're trying to paint a
- 12:01picture where there hasn't been a crime. That is such a wild departure of
- 12:07where we normally would be in this country, and it's just so quiet it
- 12:11blows my mind. The weaponization of government is a very real thing. Whether
- 12:15you are a Catholic attending math, you've got the FBI watching you, if
- 12:18you are a parent going to a PTA meeting, oh heaven forbid, you've
- 12:22got an FBI agent in the parking lot scribbling down your license plate number.
- 12:26Absolutely wild times that we're living in. I know you got a bolt.
- 12:31Please remember in the meeting this week Stephen Baker Blaze media use him as an
- 12:35example. I will thank you, Kat, God bless bye bye, all
- 12:39right. Kat Camick, US Congresswoman, third Florida District, on the Morning
- 12:43Show with Preston Scott
