Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
0:10
Speaker 2: All right, lou Terminello's back with us here. It's the
0:14
Speaker 2: week of Christmas. First of all, Louis, I know you
0:17
Speaker 2: get very nostalgic and all that. How much how much
0:21
Speaker 2: you love Christmas time? It does. It bring you back
0:23
Speaker 2: to the to the you know, that way back when
0:26
Speaker 2: kind of thing. Even for me and my child, it
0:27
Speaker 2: brings me back every week.
0:29
Speaker 1: Alex, thanks for having me. Yes, I love Christmas for
0:35
Speaker 1: the from both the holiday and the religious aspect, very
0:41
Speaker 1: important to me. Obviously, not working in New York anymore,
0:46
Speaker 1: I miss the beauty of Christmas in Manhattan. Down here
0:51
Speaker 1: in Central Jersey, there's a lot of beautiful places that
0:54
Speaker 1: are decorated with beautiful lights and various other decorations. But
1:00
Speaker 1: like not like uh Manhattan, that's for sure. But I do,
1:03
Speaker 1: I do love, I love. I love this time of
1:05
Speaker 1: year absolutely.
1:11
Speaker 2: You know, there's nothing like it. And you know I
1:14
Speaker 2: saw a couple of Santa's and MetLife Stadium Sunday and
1:17
Speaker 2: of course the Grinch on Sunday, so it was a
1:19
Speaker 2: mix of folks. But I'll tell you, football fans love
1:22
Speaker 2: to dress up during this time of year for Christmas time.
1:25
Speaker 2: I love how they dress up. I even saw walking
1:27
Speaker 2: Christmas tree. Actually, well, Alex.
1:29
Speaker 1: You know what the other thing is those Santa suits
1:32
Speaker 1: when they're sitting in Medlife Stadium like you were on
1:35
Speaker 1: Sunday for the for the Giants and vikings on on
1:39
Speaker 1: the cold day, keeps those Santa suits keep keeps them
1:42
Speaker 1: warm for the people sitting there. But this tough year
1:49
Speaker 1: for the Jets and the Giants coming to an end,
1:53
Speaker 1: and uh, you know, let's we got to talk about
1:56
Speaker 1: just just amazing that this is the third time in
1:59
Speaker 1: seven years of the Giants have lost nine straight games
2:03
Speaker 1: and if they don't win in Vegas on Sunday, which
2:07
Speaker 1: will have a profound effect on the draft order. You know,
2:11
Speaker 1: in the top four or five, depending on who wins Sunday,
2:14
Speaker 1: that will have lost ten games in a row, two
2:16
Speaker 1: years in a row. It's not easy to do.
2:20
Speaker 2: Obviously, is there playing for the first pick?
2:26
Speaker 1: That that's it? I mean, you know, obviously Mike caff
2:33
Speaker 1: that this was his chance to show that he can
2:36
Speaker 1: be a head coach somewhere. He's been you know, he's
2:39
Speaker 1: been interviewed a number of times for head coaching opportunities
2:43
Speaker 1: and hasn't gotten it yet, Alex. I do not think
2:46
Speaker 1: he's last five weeks and he has two more to
2:48
Speaker 1: go has helped him at all. So, uh, you know,
2:53
Speaker 1: we'll see, We'll see what happens on Black Monday. I
2:57
Speaker 1: don't know if Joe Shane's going to be retained. That
3:02
Speaker 1: was a terror. The Giants had a great chance to
3:03
Speaker 1: win Sunday, not that it really matters, but uh, you know,
3:08
Speaker 1: the the Vikings made you know, let's face it, the
3:13
Speaker 1: worst personnel decision in the National Football League this year
3:18
Speaker 1: was done by the front office and the coaching staff
3:21
Speaker 1: for the Minnesota Vikings, who decided not to re sign
3:27
Speaker 1: Sam Darnold, who now after going fourteen and three last year,
3:30
Speaker 1: is twelve and three this year. That's twenty six and six.
3:34
Speaker 1: And I don't know what Jj mccarthey's going to end
3:37
Speaker 1: up being. He might end up being more than capable
3:40
Speaker 1: NFL quarterback, but he isn't now, and he's always hurt,
3:43
Speaker 1: and he got hurt again.
3:45
Speaker 2: He got hurt again on and that was one of
3:46
Speaker 2: the main reasons I went on Sundays to see my
3:49
Speaker 2: UM Michigan, the UM Michigan legend, JJ McCarthy, who I
3:54
Speaker 2: don't know, he was great in the college, but when
3:56
Speaker 2: he went to the NFL it's been a different story
3:58
Speaker 2: for him.
3:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he still has a little time, but
4:01
Speaker 1: it doesn't look good. And there's no way that the
4:04
Speaker 1: Vikings shouldn't have Donald as their quarterback. I mean, you
4:08
Speaker 1: saw what he did on Thursday night, a fantastic come back.
4:12
Speaker 1: You know, he's twenty six and six. You know, as
4:16
Speaker 1: you played it, win the game. As Herm Edwards said
4:18
Speaker 1: many years ago when he was coaching the Jets, that
4:22
Speaker 1: was one.
4:22
Speaker 2: Of the famous ones. And I always loved that statement.
4:24
Speaker 2: And it was around the time I think there's two
4:28
Speaker 2: thousand and two or two thousand and three, it was
4:29
Speaker 2: around that era.
4:30
Speaker 1: They right, it was two thousand and two, and but again,
4:37
Speaker 1: the Giants have a lot of issues. I mean we'll
4:39
Speaker 1: start there first. I mean, this defense was supposed to
4:43
Speaker 1: be considered one of the best defense lines in the league,
4:46
Speaker 1: and it's been a disaster. I mean, there's really no
4:50
Speaker 1: other way to say it.
4:51
Speaker 2: And the taking theory could make sense because they waited
4:54
Speaker 2: like ten weeks too late to fire their DC if
4:56
Speaker 2: they were going to make a run at this. So
4:58
Speaker 2: I don't understand it, but well.
4:59
Speaker 1: Look, the Jets and the Giants are both very similar.
5:04
Speaker 1: The Giants, if you're gonna fire Dable, you should have
5:07
Speaker 1: fired him at the end of last year, not in
5:09
Speaker 1: the middle of this year. And firing the DC the
5:14
Speaker 1: defensive coin of that, that's just that's just cosmetic. I mean,
5:21
Speaker 1: the Jets fired Steve Wilks last week. Steve Wilkes should
5:25
Speaker 1: have never been hired in the first place. But we'll
5:27
Speaker 1: get to the Jets, get to the Jets in the
5:29
Speaker 1: second The Giants obviously have a lot of a lot
5:34
Speaker 1: of holes that they're gonna have to fill, you know.
5:37
Speaker 1: They they gotta cut loose from guys like Darius Slayton. Why,
5:44
Speaker 1: it's just been a total disaster since I'm surprised he
5:48
Speaker 1: was still on the roster this year. But they'll have
5:50
Speaker 1: neighbors back next year, and they'll have Scatter move back,
5:55
Speaker 1: but neighbors is more important.
5:57
Speaker 2: Dart and Leak are the future. I don't care how many.
6:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, but Alex, that's only four guys. That's only four
6:04
Speaker 1: guys out of fifty three and really more out of
6:07
Speaker 1: seventy five guys, because guys are gonna get hurt. And
6:10
Speaker 1: the other thing is, and I know people are going
6:12
Speaker 1: to disagree with me, and I said it to one
6:14
Speaker 1: of my friends who works for the New York Giants.
6:17
Speaker 1: I said, if this is just me, If I was
6:20
Speaker 1: a New York Giants and I get the number one
6:22
Speaker 1: draft pick, I'm drafting Fernando Mendoza. I'm drafting from Mendoza
6:30
Speaker 1: because you have to have two caple quarterbacks. Netflix has
6:35
Speaker 1: paid all this money for this special doubleheader. On Christmas Day,
6:40
Speaker 1: Dallas at Washington, third string quarterback Josh Johnson may start.
6:46
Speaker 1: Mariauda is questionable. He's not out yet. Then Detroit at
6:49
Speaker 1: Minnesota on Netflix. McCarthy's not playing. He has a fracture
6:55
Speaker 1: hand or something that he got Sunday. And Max Bosmer,
6:59
Speaker 1: who who got that winning field goal drive against the Giants,
7:03
Speaker 1: which is just mind boggling to me, that is gonna start.
7:06
Speaker 1: And then at night on the Amazon Prime game, Denver
7:10
Speaker 1: at Kansas City, third string quarterback Chris o'ladokun is gonna start.
7:16
Speaker 1: So that's not that's a bad investment for it for Netflix,
7:21
Speaker 1: but I assume the ratings will still be good because
7:23
Speaker 1: people are just addicted to watching football. But the quarterback
7:26
Speaker 1: play in this league overall has been horrendous. How many
7:30
Speaker 1: second and third string quarterbacks have we seen this year?
7:33
Speaker 1: I'm not I don't want to be the dead horse,
7:35
Speaker 1: but there are only four super blue chip quarterbacks in
7:39
Speaker 1: this league right now. And we talked about it, Mahomes,
7:43
Speaker 1: who's hurt, Allen Stafford and Burrow. And then you have
7:50
Speaker 1: you have the blue Chippers, you have the Lamar Jackson's,
7:53
Speaker 1: you have the uh uh, the Dak Prescott's, you have
7:57
Speaker 1: the just the Justin Herbert. But there's not many good quarterbacks.
8:00
Speaker 1: The quarterback playing this league this year has been poor.
8:03
Speaker 1: And so if I was in New York Giants, I
8:08
Speaker 1: would pick Fernando Mendoza. I know everybody disagreed with me.
8:12
Speaker 1: I would pick for Fernando Mendoz. And I'm not saying
8:16
Speaker 1: Trey dart not not right away. Not you know, maybe
8:21
Speaker 1: Mendoza can't play. We don't know that. We've seen overall
8:23
Speaker 1: number one picks at the quarterback position not cut it,
8:27
Speaker 1: but you got I think they can't pass them up
8:31
Speaker 1: if they have the number one pick. Well, I think
8:33
Speaker 1: we'll know on Sunday, really after it's amazing two and
8:37
Speaker 1: twelve Giants at two and twelve Raiders is a big
8:42
Speaker 1: game for for the April twenty six.
8:46
Speaker 2: I don't care about the draft. I don't want to
8:47
Speaker 2: make history in the negative. I don't want to make
8:49
Speaker 2: feudal history again like that would be uh.
8:52
Speaker 1: Well again Kafta and the Giants coaching staff, most of
8:57
Speaker 1: them will probably won't be there next year.
9:00
Speaker 2: I was saying video thing and maybe i'd see Dart
9:02
Speaker 2: throw the ball. He rand the ball more than anything.
9:04
Speaker 2: It was very disconcerting to see.
9:06
Speaker 1: But again, uh, I don't know what that strategy was
9:11
Speaker 1: on Sunday.
9:13
Speaker 2: But the Vikings aren't that good either. That's the crazy part,
9:15
Speaker 2: Like they don't look either.
9:17
Speaker 1: Well. The Vikings issue is they had poor quarterback play.
9:21
Speaker 1: I mean, I think if if Donald was their quarterback,
9:24
Speaker 1: I think they would be contending for that last playoff,
9:27
Speaker 1: smaller maybe even uh been where they were last year.
9:33
Speaker 1: That was a that was a huge mistake, a huge
9:36
Speaker 1: personnel mistake by a franchise that's usually pretty intelligent with
9:41
Speaker 1: the decision making.
9:44
Speaker 2: But weird. One thing. So you mentioned PC and by
9:47
Speaker 2: the way, as if losing Mahomes and I mean he'll
9:52
Speaker 2: be back next year, but as as dramatic as the
9:55
Speaker 2: bad and baddest season as this was. Now the gut
9:59
Speaker 2: punches are eving case. I never thought i'd see them
10:03
Speaker 2: move away from Kansas City.
10:05
Speaker 1: Well, this is the thing, Alex. It's no different than
10:08
Speaker 1: the Jets moving to the Meadowlands and before them, the
10:12
Speaker 1: Giants moving to the metal Lands. I think I think
10:14
Speaker 1: the stadium is twenty It's twenty miles away from Arrowhitz Stadium,
10:20
Speaker 1: so they're still going to be in the same the
10:22
Speaker 1: same market, just like the Nets. When the Nets moved
10:25
Speaker 1: from Isaac Center to Berkley's, it's twelve miles, so they're
10:30
Speaker 1: still in the They're still in the same market. But again,
10:33
Speaker 1: it's all about money. The state of Kansas is going
10:37
Speaker 1: to build them a four million dollars and I think
10:39
Speaker 1: it's gonna be both private and public money. Four million,
10:44
Speaker 1: excuse me, four billion dollar dome stadium. And uh, I
10:51
Speaker 1: mean I think.
10:52
Speaker 2: I think they fled it was too small to host
10:54
Speaker 2: a super Bowl. That's another reason why they're doing this,
10:56
Speaker 2: I guess.
10:56
Speaker 1: So well, they wanted they want to host the Super Bowl,
10:58
Speaker 1: and the NFL said they be considered with a dome stadium.
11:03
Speaker 1: Obviously you have other events there, like the Final Four,
11:07
Speaker 1: maybe the NCAA college football playoff championship game. So that, Alex,
11:12
Speaker 1: it's all about money and the Chiefs. None of these
11:16
Speaker 1: NFL teams are hurting for money, but they but they
11:19
Speaker 1: want to make more.
11:21
Speaker 2: But anyway, not done me manage worse about that, then
11:22
Speaker 2: they're done in the third string quarterback. It's almost like
11:25
Speaker 2: everything is a disaster.
11:26
Speaker 1: But again, for nine years in a row, a lot
11:30
Speaker 1: of good things happened for the Kansas City Chiefs. So
11:33
Speaker 1: I do not, Alex, I do not shed a tear
11:36
Speaker 1: for the Kansas City Chiefs having this bad year, not
11:39
Speaker 1: at all.
11:40
Speaker 2: But I also think, you know, I was getting tired
11:44
Speaker 2: of Mahomes in the sense of and of course you
11:47
Speaker 2: don't have any injury to happen to him, but I
11:50
Speaker 2: was getting tired of him being there because I felt
11:52
Speaker 2: like he was whining every game. It was like he
11:55
Speaker 2: wasn't he was. He was humble when he started, but
11:58
Speaker 2: then he just became like he expected every call.
12:01
Speaker 1: I felt like it, Well, you know, you are one
12:03
Speaker 1: hundred percent right, he's no different than a lot of
12:05
Speaker 1: other players, But yes, he expected to get every call.
12:10
Speaker 2: You are for pract but that doesn't explain why he
12:13
Speaker 2: kept throwing interception almost every weekend, an interception in crucial moments,
12:17
Speaker 2: by the way, like that was wild this whole season. Anyway,
12:20
Speaker 2: the team they lost to the Chargers, beating the Cowboys
12:23
Speaker 2: and now them and Jacksonville and Denver. I mean, we're
12:28
Speaker 2: going to see a whole new playoffs. I think that's
12:30
Speaker 2: exciting though, to see a whole new playoffs slate like
12:32
Speaker 2: we want that in the NFL.
12:34
Speaker 1: Actually, Alex, I agree with you, and the NFC is loaded.
12:40
Speaker 1: The NFC is better than the AFC to she at
12:42
Speaker 1: the top level teams, There's no doubt about it. I
12:45
Speaker 1: mean with I mean, just look at the NFC West,
12:49
Speaker 1: where you have you have Seattle, San Francisco, and right
12:53
Speaker 1: now technically the Rams, who many people feel his best
12:56
Speaker 1: team in football, most complete team in football, are third
13:00
Speaker 1: in that division. So we'll have to see how the
13:02
Speaker 1: jockey for position over these last two weeks. But he
13:06
Speaker 1: got three outstanding teams in the NFC West. The Eagles
13:10
Speaker 1: are still champions. I know there've been some they've been
13:13
Speaker 1: up and down a little bit after winning the Super
13:15
Speaker 1: Bowl last year, but they're right there. Then he got
13:19
Speaker 1: the two surprising teams, well, the one surprising team with
13:23
Speaker 1: Chicago somehow winning that game on Saturday Night where it
13:28
Speaker 1: looked like they were dead and buried.
13:32
Speaker 2: But the Bears have been helped by a lot of
13:35
Speaker 2: different factors, and one of them obviously with the Bear.
13:39
Speaker 2: I mean, they're just coached better. Firstly, I mean, well,
13:42
Speaker 2: they're coach.
13:42
Speaker 1: Better without a doubt, plus the fact they're over twenty
13:46
Speaker 1: they're plus twenty twenty one in the turnover ratio and
13:50
Speaker 1: that you know that that helps you so much.
13:54
Speaker 2: But I also feel like the Lions lost their teeth
13:56
Speaker 2: a lot over the offseason by losing all their coaches,
13:59
Speaker 2: and then you also got look the Packers, Michael was
14:04
Speaker 2: a big splash. But after that it's sort of been
14:07
Speaker 2: up and down. They've won some and then they've lost some. Questions,
14:10
Speaker 2: you know, some games they should have won. I mean,
14:13
Speaker 2: Bears got helped out by almost everything around them, and
14:15
Speaker 2: of course the Vikings disarrayed with Johnson McCarthy, and then
14:19
Speaker 2: I just.
14:20
Speaker 1: Yeah, but you say you're talking about the lines losing
14:23
Speaker 1: both of their coordinators, Well, one of their coordinators has
14:26
Speaker 1: been very successful, Ben Johnson. I wish that the Lions
14:30
Speaker 1: had kept the other coordinator because Alex, as you know,
14:37
Speaker 1: I'm a Jets fan since nineteen sixty four, and that's
14:41
Speaker 1: I follow them religiously since then. A little bit sixty three,
14:45
Speaker 1: but really sixty four and Aaron Glenn outstanding Jet corner.
14:56
Speaker 1: I loved watching him play. The guy is a disaster
15:00
Speaker 1: as a head coach, and I know it's his first year.
15:04
Speaker 1: I can't believe they're actually going to bring him back.
15:08
Speaker 1: I think there's still an outside chance that on that
15:10
Speaker 1: Sunday night of January fourth, or on on Black Monday,
15:14
Speaker 1: January fifth, they that he might be let go. But
15:19
Speaker 1: he has just been a toll disaster since the start
15:21
Speaker 1: of the season. I know they owe them a lot
15:24
Speaker 1: of money. This team is so poorly coached. I you know,
15:29
Speaker 1: I wanted an offensive, an offensive head coach. I think
15:33
Speaker 1: in this league you have to have an offensive head coach.
15:36
Speaker 1: And how can the New York Jets not have an interception?
15:42
Speaker 1: They just set a record beating forty nine ers going
15:45
Speaker 1: fifteen games without an interception, Alex, I think they've they
15:49
Speaker 1: haven't come close to an interception.
15:51
Speaker 2: I think there was one of the funny all they
15:52
Speaker 2: did when when everyone was hired was showed that interception
15:57
Speaker 2: about how he made these interceptions for them.
15:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, they showed him one where he went like
16:00
Speaker 1: one hundred yards against Marino and he was a great
16:04
Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, he was a great. Well, he
16:07
Speaker 1: was an outstanding corner. But he hires Steve Wilkes, and
16:13
Speaker 1: we have it on audio tape. We can go back
16:15
Speaker 1: to to March or February when they hired him, because
16:18
Speaker 1: we have it on this podcast that we didn't like. Uh,
16:23
Speaker 1: the Steve Wilkes hired. He's his last six jobs, Steve Wilkes,
16:28
Speaker 1: his last six jobs, Alex. He's been one year and done.
16:33
Speaker 1: How does this guy keep getting jobs? He's not aggressive
16:36
Speaker 1: with his defense. The Jets are always getting out schemed.
16:42
Speaker 1: It's it's unbelievable. They don't develop any game plans that
16:47
Speaker 1: are that make a difference, that that throw opposing offenses
16:51
Speaker 1: uh into uh quagmire. They don't.
16:54
Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know. And the whole time versus
17:00
Speaker 2: Justin Field's disaster was just it was.
17:04
Speaker 1: Justin Fields again. As we said, when they hired us
17:07
Speaker 1: assigned them, we said that he was not an NFL
17:11
Speaker 1: level quarterback.
17:12
Speaker 2: He's not.
17:13
Speaker 1: He's a gadget quarterback. But but Aaron Glenn said, well,
17:16
Speaker 1: you know I'm gonna We're gonna coach him up. I
17:19
Speaker 1: had to game plan against him twice a year. Well,
17:21
Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn, if you if it was difficult for you
17:24
Speaker 1: to gain plan against him twice a year, you can't
17:28
Speaker 1: be a very good defensive coordinator. And again, I hate
17:31
Speaker 1: to I hate to bash them, but you know, it's
17:38
Speaker 1: just unbelievable. Their linebackers are small. When you look at
17:41
Speaker 1: the roster the night two years ago, the night that
17:46
Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers snapped his achilles to now, it's remarkable how
17:51
Speaker 1: poor the roster has dropped in two years now. I'm
17:56
Speaker 1: not saying that that roster was Superbowl level roster.
17:59
Speaker 2: I know Jeff wish that Widdy Johnson would go back
18:01
Speaker 2: to becoming ambassador to the UK because he sees.
18:04
Speaker 1: Well, again, this really doesn't have anything to do with him.
18:06
Speaker 1: You know, as I said last week, you know which
18:08
Speaker 1: first eleven years as owner, just for ninety two and
18:10
Speaker 1: seventy five, they made the playoffs six times in his
18:13
Speaker 1: first eleven years, and they went to the AFT Championship
18:16
Speaker 1: game twice. The last you know, the last decade and
18:22
Speaker 1: a half, it's been a disaster. But we could talk that,
18:24
Speaker 1: we could talk about talk about any owner the marriage
18:29
Speaker 1: are considered great owners. Well, the New York Giants has
18:31
Speaker 1: been horrible for a long time, even with winning a
18:35
Speaker 1: couple of Super Bowls they had if they had no
18:37
Speaker 1: sustained success, they were one year wonders when they won
18:40
Speaker 1: those two Super Bowls. It's not like they were that
18:43
Speaker 1: they were the Chiefs or the Patriots or the Steelers.
18:48
Speaker 1: So I don't know what my point being. I don't
18:51
Speaker 1: know how important the owner plays a part in the
18:55
Speaker 1: overall success. You have to have players. What did you
19:00
Speaker 1: Johnson got Rogers If you want to go back to
19:02
Speaker 1: two thousand and eight, when they had a chance to
19:04
Speaker 1: get Farved, he got Farve. He rubbers stamped at. But
19:08
Speaker 1: he made a terrible choice with Aaron Glenn, and he
19:10
Speaker 1: made a terrible choice when he fired Solid prematurely. Now
19:15
Speaker 1: Salah deserved to get fired, but they should have done
19:17
Speaker 1: it at the end of the year, just like Marria
19:19
Speaker 1: should have fired Dable at the end of the year.
19:21
Speaker 1: So the Jets are not going to fire Glenn at
19:25
Speaker 1: the end of this year and alex So next year
19:27
Speaker 1: they start off two and seven and they fire him.
19:31
Speaker 1: What did they gain by that? He didn't go to
19:35
Speaker 1: fire him, fire him now at the end of this year,
19:39
Speaker 1: and hire an offensive coach with two good coordinators. Sometimes
19:44
Speaker 1: the coordinator is the key.
19:46
Speaker 3: Mike Rabel great coach, but he also brought a great
19:50
Speaker 3: coordinator to make sure that that Drake May had Josh
19:55
Speaker 3: McDaniels as his coordinator, just like Steve Spagnola lowsy coach,
20:01
Speaker 3: great coordinator.
20:02
Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels lowsy coach, great coordinator. Maybe Solids the same way, Uh,
20:08
Speaker 1: you know, with with with now he's back with San Francisco.
20:12
Speaker 1: But if that's what's gonna happen, Alex, that is what's
20:15
Speaker 1: gonna happen. The Jets will start off two and six,
20:18
Speaker 1: two and seven, and they'll get rid of them. They'll
20:21
Speaker 1: get rid of Glenn and they've accomplished nothing.
20:25
Speaker 2: Oh I want something about talking about winning. It's just
20:28
Speaker 2: because last night I'm listening to Kevin Harlan and I
20:31
Speaker 2: think their team to look out for. Also, I know
20:33
Speaker 2: you mentioned them a minute ago, but did I not
20:36
Speaker 2: say on this podcast brock Perdy, if he was healthy,
20:38
Speaker 2: would have beaten the Eagles a couple of years ago.
20:41
Speaker 2: I feel that now he has come back with their
20:44
Speaker 2: resurgence and the Niners or something to look out. But
20:47
Speaker 2: I remember you and I talking about that, and I
20:49
Speaker 2: was thinking about that when I was listening to the
20:51
Speaker 2: Kevin Harlan called the game. I'm like, wait, Party's back
20:54
Speaker 2: to that style, that that form again without question.
20:59
Speaker 1: And uh, I mean the kid is a The kid
21:02
Speaker 1: is a very very efficient quarterback. He's outstanding, he doesn't
21:06
Speaker 1: get rattled, and he plays for a great offensive coach.
21:11
Speaker 1: I mean, oh, I would do anything to have Shanahan
21:17
Speaker 1: as coach of the Jets. Anything, And that's what the
21:21
Speaker 1: Giant's gonna have to do. My man. Now they got
21:23
Speaker 1: they got Dart, and we think Dart might be okay.
21:25
Speaker 1: We don't know yet, but if Kevin Sefancy gets fired,
21:30
Speaker 1: he should be right at the top of the Giants
21:32
Speaker 1: list if they can pry. They're not going to pry away,
21:36
Speaker 1: uh Shanahan, But they need somebody like that, so do
21:41
Speaker 1: the Jets. They this is an offensive league. You gotta
21:44
Speaker 1: get your quarterback. You Kyle Shanahan coached up Rock Party,
21:50
Speaker 1: mister irrelevant. They saw talent in them, but they coached
21:53
Speaker 1: them up and he was Coachabull Rock Party. Great combination.
22:00
Speaker 1: Do you if you don't think sitting on the bench,
22:02
Speaker 1: I think he only started one game two years ago
22:05
Speaker 1: for the Niners. Uh, Sam Donold. If you don't think
22:09
Speaker 1: he absorbed all that Kyle Shanahan knowledge, offensive knowledge, you
22:16
Speaker 1: guys are kidding yourself. He did and it's paying off now.
22:20
Speaker 1: It really is. So again, this is offensive league and
22:28
Speaker 1: the Giants have to hire an offensive coache.
22:31
Speaker 2: About quarterbacks former Jet quarterbacks. Uh. Zach Wilson was even
22:36
Speaker 2: skipped over by the Dolphins this week. I thought that
22:39
Speaker 2: was so interesting because I mean, here's a guy that
22:41
Speaker 2: used to be on the Jets, now he's in Miami,
22:43
Speaker 2: which I didn't really know him bout till I mentioned it.
22:45
Speaker 2: And then I think when you Weres got the start,
22:47
Speaker 2: it was yes.
22:48
Speaker 1: He did, Yes he did it. And that shows you, uh,
22:53
Speaker 1: what kind of a disaster Zach Wilson is our surprise
22:57
Speaker 1: that that if they were in the bench too would
23:00
Speaker 1: which I understand that it wasn't Zach, but it was
23:04
Speaker 1: Quinn yours and uh, you know, apparently he was like
23:08
Speaker 1: a deer in the headlights a little bit on Sunday,
23:10
Speaker 1: just like Brady Cook is. And and now Tyrod Taylor
23:15
Speaker 1: is healthy and they're going to start Brady Cook the
23:17
Speaker 1: next two weeks. And by the.
23:21
Speaker 2: Way, I was walking to the Congress at MetLife. I
23:23
Speaker 2: don't know if you've experienced this, but every TV is
23:26
Speaker 2: on a different football game. It's not always on the
23:28
Speaker 2: Giants or the Jets game. It's so interesting to me
23:31
Speaker 2: how they even have a focus on the game. It's
23:33
Speaker 2: just like you look up at all sin red zone
23:35
Speaker 2: on one TV or it's yeah, focus on your team.
23:40
Speaker 1: It is. But uh, you know, this has just been that,
23:44
Speaker 1: this has just been a disaster.
23:46
Speaker 2: I mean, we were getting tired of the disasters.
23:48
Speaker 1: Oh. As a Jets I'll just speak as a Jets fan,
23:51
Speaker 1: I am beyond disgusted tired, I really am.
23:57
Speaker 2: I mean it's but you would think twenty four to
23:58
Speaker 2: six is rock bottom or what whatever the score was.
24:00
Speaker 2: I mean against a lowly Saints team, the less well,
24:05
Speaker 2: I mean, they're better than the Jets, anybody.
24:11
Speaker 1: I mean that, that's that's the bottom one. The one
24:15
Speaker 1: thing I didn't like what the Saints did and doesn't
24:16
Speaker 1: matter nobody brought it up. Added too minute warning. Jets
24:19
Speaker 1: had no timeouts, and I think the Jets thought they
24:23
Speaker 1: were just going to run the ball, taking me and
24:25
Speaker 1: Tayston Hill threw a touchdown pass down the middle when
24:29
Speaker 1: through a long pass, which I thought was a little
24:32
Speaker 1: a little unsportsmanlike. But that's that's again. That's just my
24:35
Speaker 1: my take on it. Not not gonna make a big deal,
24:37
Speaker 1: a big deal about it. But the season has two
24:42
Speaker 1: weeks to go, and then one of these years maybe
24:44
Speaker 1: they'll hit it. But the Jets are so far away.
24:47
Speaker 1: So are the Giants. But the Jets are so far away.
24:50
Speaker 1: At least the Giants have the possibility of of a
24:54
Speaker 1: quarterback in place, which you have to have.
24:57
Speaker 2: By the way, I could I could see maybe in baseball.
24:59
Speaker 2: I I could see maybe in uh hockey or basketball,
25:04
Speaker 2: though we all love hockey. But in football, no matter
25:07
Speaker 2: if your team doesn't make it, you're still glued to
25:09
Speaker 2: the playoffs every year, Like there's something about the NFL
25:11
Speaker 2: playoffs that you just want to tune into it and
25:14
Speaker 2: see what happens.
25:15
Speaker 1: Right now, you're you're right, we'll be watching all those games,
25:19
Speaker 1: whether they you know, even though our teams have long
25:21
Speaker 1: been out of it, so.
25:23
Speaker 2: You know, so we'll see see Saturday doubleheader always gets
25:26
Speaker 2: me on the wild card weekend. It's always like dramatic
25:29
Speaker 2: with that.
25:30
Speaker 1: Well, the thing is, there's gonna be no drama this
25:32
Speaker 1: year because just about every playoff spot is filled. Remember
25:37
Speaker 1: for three or four years that last day of the season,
25:43
Speaker 1: teams are going in and out. You're in. At two
25:45
Speaker 1: thirty you're in the playoffs, and at two fifty or
25:47
Speaker 1: out of it. Then back at three twenty you were
25:49
Speaker 1: back in, depending on other games. But you know, but
25:53
Speaker 1: Philadelphia is in the past Clinton playoffs spot. You know,
25:57
Speaker 1: Chicago has se ADL San Francisco Los Angeles has in
26:02
Speaker 1: the NFC. In the AFCU, the Patriots have, the Bills
26:07
Speaker 1: have they just don't know who's gonna win a division.
26:10
Speaker 1: And and in the h the Jaguars have frinch a
26:16
Speaker 1: playoff spot, so has Denver and the Chargers. So there's
26:21
Speaker 1: only one spot left and that could be done this week.
26:24
Speaker 1: So going into Week eighteen, you might be playing for seeding,
26:27
Speaker 1: but every all playoff positions could be could be locked
26:31
Speaker 1: in this week. So you know, we'll uh, but we'll
26:37
Speaker 1: still be watching, you know, come a wildcard weekend, which
26:40
Speaker 1: is gonna be great, and there'll be you know, it'll
26:43
Speaker 1: be no Detroit that looks like I mean, I know
26:44
Speaker 1: they still have an outside shot. There's a chance that
26:48
Speaker 1: might be no Packers. And two weeks ago people saying
26:50
Speaker 1: that the Packers were the front runners to win the
26:53
Speaker 1: Super Bowl. So you know, it's it's you know, we
26:57
Speaker 1: talk about it all the time, how things change so
26:59
Speaker 1: quickly and l and it does for so many reasons
27:02
Speaker 1: for injuries. You know, the games are so close and
27:07
Speaker 1: so was we go into week seventeen, we'll see, we'll
27:10
Speaker 1: see what happens.
27:12
Speaker 2: Well, now, let me let let's switch gears, because I
27:14
Speaker 2: saw I saw Long Long Island's heart throb Matthew Shaeffer
27:19
Speaker 2: in person for a little bit on Friday night. Let
27:23
Speaker 2: me tell you, and I said this on my show today,
27:26
Speaker 2: if you want to get to know these hockey guys
27:28
Speaker 2: and you want to get to see the passion these
27:30
Speaker 2: fans have, go to warm ups because I feel like
27:32
Speaker 2: that's the real time you get to see them shower
27:35
Speaker 2: these guys with love. I mean all these all the
27:37
Speaker 2: cheers I heard Shaefer get when he got on the
27:39
Speaker 2: ice for warm ups and off the ice, it was like,
27:42
Speaker 2: you know, you can feel his prey, you can feel
27:44
Speaker 2: the passion for him even in warm ups. Is the
27:47
Speaker 2: point I'm trying to make no.
27:49
Speaker 1: You're right and warm ups and obviously we've been to
27:51
Speaker 1: one hundreds of hockey games. Yes, there's a lot of passion,
27:55
Speaker 1: and it is the real fans who get there early
27:57
Speaker 1: for when the teams are are are in the pre
28:00
Speaker 1: warm ups, there's no everything you said is is right
28:06
Speaker 1: on target, but hockey. You know, the big trade last
28:11
Speaker 1: week with Quinn news getting traded from Vancouver to the
28:16
Speaker 1: Minnesota Wild. That caught me by surprise. Not that he
28:19
Speaker 1: was traded, but I thought. I thought last Sunday when
28:23
Speaker 1: the Devils and Vancouver played in Prudential, I thought that
28:28
Speaker 1: Quams gonna be Quinn U's's first game against his old
28:31
Speaker 1: team for his new team in New Jersey Devils. But
28:34
Speaker 1: the Devils Tom Fitzgerald has handicapped his team a little bit,
28:40
Speaker 1: hamstrung his team because he has fifteen guys with no
28:43
Speaker 1: trade clauses and he couldn't get under the cap to
28:46
Speaker 1: fit Quinn Ewes. Doesn't mean the Devils may not get
28:49
Speaker 1: him because he's still a free agent at the end
28:51
Speaker 1: of the twenty six twenty seventh season. I hope they do.
28:56
Speaker 1: But that helps, that really helps the Minnesota Wild. Co're
29:01
Speaker 1: in a tough division with Dallas and Colorado. Dallas and
29:05
Speaker 1: Colorado clearly the two best teams in the NHL so
29:08
Speaker 1: far this year. Especially Colorado. They're really the, as they say,
29:13
Speaker 1: a well oiled machine. Vancouver got a good got a
29:18
Speaker 1: good haul back for Quinn Hughes. But Quinnyos is a
29:21
Speaker 1: superstar on the top two or three. It's not the
29:24
Speaker 1: best uh defenseman in in the league. And you know
29:29
Speaker 1: former Norris Trophy winner, Uh, you know he'll be on
29:32
Speaker 1: the US Olympic team. So uh, that trade surprised me
29:36
Speaker 1: where he ended up. But the Devils are in trouble,
29:40
Speaker 1: Alex there they they got Jack Hughes back a little
29:44
Speaker 1: earlier than they thought on Sunday. But they haven't tried.
29:47
Speaker 1: They've just been inconsistent. And this has happened for a
29:50
Speaker 1: couple of years in a row now and now you know,
29:53
Speaker 1: they got to a hot start this year and now
29:55
Speaker 1: they're falling back. Uh the East, anybody is still in
29:59
Speaker 1: the playoff phrase because from one to sixteen it's you know,
30:03
Speaker 1: it's like twelve points separating from one to sixteen. So
30:08
Speaker 1: you have three or four bad games and you know
30:10
Speaker 1: you're in trouble. So I don't know if Sheldon Keith
30:13
Speaker 1: is gonna get fired mid season. From what I hear,
30:18
Speaker 1: Tom Fitzgerald, the general manager, is not getting fired. But
30:21
Speaker 1: the Devil's are in trouble. They are, and I did
30:24
Speaker 1: not expect this. This was here. They had to make
30:26
Speaker 1: the big jump. You know, as far as the Rangers go,
30:31
Speaker 1: right now, they're stuck in the middle of the pack.
30:34
Speaker 1: I don't know what their long term, what their long
30:38
Speaker 1: term expectations are, and by long term I mean for
30:41
Speaker 1: the really for the rest of the season and then
30:43
Speaker 1: too the next season. I don't know if they're going
30:45
Speaker 1: to be a buyer or a seller at the trade deadline.
30:50
Speaker 1: But they're just getting too They're getting a lot of
30:52
Speaker 1: inconsistent performances. And you know, I mean we said in
30:58
Speaker 1: the past, when you got to rely on uh Susterkin
31:04
Speaker 1: every night.
31:06
Speaker 2: Well, I remember Susinks distinctly rolling through UH ubs because
31:11
Speaker 2: I think they were down like two or three nothing
31:12
Speaker 2: at the time, and you were like, yeah, they're relying
31:15
Speaker 2: in UH. They're relying on Sharokan like the the Rangers
31:18
Speaker 2: are relying on skin. So it is it, Well, it's.
31:21
Speaker 1: True, it is true. And you know, the Islanders have
31:25
Speaker 1: no depth. Uh right, you know, right now, you know
31:28
Speaker 1: they have no Paul Mary. If you want to jump
31:30
Speaker 1: to the Islanders real quick, They're gonna get Horrorvack back
31:34
Speaker 1: maybe Saturday night when they play the Rangers at Ubs.
31:38
Speaker 1: And Sorocan's not playing tonight against the Devils at Ubs.
31:43
Speaker 1: They said a minor injury. He should be back on Saturday.
31:47
Speaker 1: I hope, because he's the most important Ranger, just like
31:49
Speaker 1: Sirsterkin is the most important. I mean, Sorokan's most important
31:53
Speaker 1: island are just like uh, Sisterkin is the most important Ranger.
31:56
Speaker 1: I mean, without question, even though I'm not the biggest
32:00
Speaker 1: Adam Fox guy, the the Rangers need Adam Fox back,
32:04
Speaker 1: especially for their power play, which has not been good.
32:09
Speaker 1: And now JT. Miller's out long term with an injury.
32:13
Speaker 1: Usually well, he's on the injured list. I don't know
32:15
Speaker 1: if they actually put him on long term, because with
32:17
Speaker 1: long term injury means you got this ten games. But
32:19
Speaker 1: when I saw him the other night, uh, post game,
32:22
Speaker 1: he didn't look like it was gonna it was gonna
32:24
Speaker 1: be a quick recovery. But could be wrong. And uh
32:28
Speaker 1: so the three hockey teams are They're all in the
32:32
Speaker 1: I mean, nobody expected the Islanders to be anything this year,
32:35
Speaker 1: and obviously we have a chance to watch them. The
32:37
Speaker 1: great Matthew Schaeffer, who apparently is still on the UH
32:42
Speaker 1: on the UH list for potential Canadian Olympic team, which
32:46
Speaker 1: would be remarkable. So we'll see, we'll see if the
32:50
Speaker 1: Islanders need to add somebody. I know they don't want
32:53
Speaker 1: to trade prospects because they've done such a good job
32:55
Speaker 1: of restocking the system with young guys, So you know,
33:00
Speaker 1: we'll see what happens there. I think the Rangers are
33:02
Speaker 1: going to make a trade of some type because right
33:05
Speaker 1: now they are stuff where you don't want to be.
33:07
Speaker 1: In the middle. They're not they're not they're not reloading,
33:11
Speaker 1: they're not really a contender. They're in the middle, and
33:15
Speaker 1: in any sport, that's where you don't want to be.
33:18
Speaker 1: So uh, you know, we'll look at that. But uh,
33:25
Speaker 1: very very entertaining and very Eastern conference.
33:29
Speaker 2: To say, you're following the conference more than I am,
33:31
Speaker 2: probably and because I don't, as admittedly, I really start
33:38
Speaker 2: following this in January when things get really heated up,
33:41
Speaker 2: because those last three months are or four months are
33:44
Speaker 2: very exciting. I mean, especially when the Rangers, Islanders, and
33:48
Speaker 2: Devils are in it. But I feel like here in
33:50
Speaker 2: New York, if the Rangers aren't in it, then the
33:52
Speaker 2: the optimism isn't there. Thank God, the Islanders might be
33:56
Speaker 2: in this thing, because I know they're in the playoff
34:00
Speaker 2: right now, right.
34:03
Speaker 4: They are they are they have the first wild card,
34:06
Speaker 4: but Alex they have the first wild card, the Devils
34:09
Speaker 4: have the second wild card, and the Rangers have The
34:12
Speaker 4: Ranges are the first team out, so.
34:14
Speaker 1: But there's only two points separating them, so that can
34:17
Speaker 1: then that could be really changed tonight. I mean in
34:19
Speaker 1: the Eastern Conference, Hurricanes have forty seven points and the
34:25
Speaker 1: Maple Leafs are last. The mayple Leafs are left. Can
34:28
Speaker 1: you imagine the media pressure in Toronto on the on
34:32
Speaker 1: the Mayple Leafs they're last, but they have thirty five points,
34:35
Speaker 1: so they're only they're only six games six points out
34:38
Speaker 1: of a playoff spot. The Eastern Conference is going to
34:41
Speaker 1: be really interesting to look at during the rest of
34:45
Speaker 1: the year. Meanwhile, in the Western Conference, the rampanging Avalanche
34:50
Speaker 1: they have fifty nine points, and the Blackhawks, who are
34:54
Speaker 1: better than they were last year but they're under five hundred,
34:57
Speaker 1: are twenty seven points behind the Avalanche. They you have
35:00
Speaker 1: thirty two points. So, uh, you know what's interesting difference
35:10
Speaker 1: between the East and Western conferences. But I guess, uh,
35:15
Speaker 1: I guess uh uh.
35:18
Speaker 2: Now I don't know. Maybe it's because I don't follow
35:19
Speaker 2: the Bleacher Report an occasional a lot, but it's see,
35:22
Speaker 2: although we have talked about said the kid passing Lemu
35:25
Speaker 2: the other night, that's pretty cool, it wasn't in Penguin's
35:28
Speaker 2: history or was it NHL history? Like what was?
35:30
Speaker 1: Well, well, I mean, lem you only played for the Penguins,
35:34
Speaker 1: and uh, it looks like Crosby's only to be playing
35:37
Speaker 1: for the uh uh Penguins in his career. I don't
35:41
Speaker 1: think he'll he'll get it, will get traded. Yeah, so
35:43
Speaker 1: it was the it was the franchise, uh points and uh,
35:49
Speaker 1: Crosby is great, but he's he wasn't as good as Mariolomeieux.
35:53
Speaker 1: But cause Crosby is great, Crosby is might be underrated.
35:59
Speaker 1: I know that sounds crazy.
36:03
Speaker 2: And that's our other superstar that we all talk about,
36:05
Speaker 2: Connor McDavid because I feel like I don't hear his
36:07
Speaker 2: name as much.
36:08
Speaker 1: Show he's probably he is pineling up the points, and
36:15
Speaker 1: you know how he could. He can score points, you know,
36:18
Speaker 1: in a hurry. And he's had some games where he's
36:22
Speaker 1: had four, four and five point nights. Now it's between
36:27
Speaker 1: him and Nathan McKinnon. They're going back and forth in
36:30
Speaker 1: the point race. But the most amazing thing is second
36:34
Speaker 1: year player Macklin Celebrini from the San Jose Sharks, who
36:40
Speaker 1: probably will make the Olympic team in his second year
36:43
Speaker 1: even though he's only nineteen years old. Al he's got
36:45
Speaker 1: fifty four points. I mean, the kid is phenomenal. And
36:50
Speaker 1: you know, you got teams like the Sharks and Anaheim
36:52
Speaker 1: that have all these young guys that are so interesting
36:56
Speaker 1: to watch. I mean, they're amazing young guys. I think
37:01
Speaker 1: the NHL this is the best the last couple of years,
37:04
Speaker 1: the best at the NHL has been. They didn't want
37:07
Speaker 1: sport that's better now then used to be. Baseball's not better.
37:12
Speaker 1: Football is not better, and basketball certainly isn't better than
37:15
Speaker 1: it was fifteen to twenty years ago.
37:19
Speaker 2: Basketball they're going up to like one hundred and thirty
37:21
Speaker 2: points a game.
37:21
Speaker 1: Now, Well, did you see was it last night between
37:26
Speaker 1: the Bulls and the Hawks one fifty two to one
37:29
Speaker 1: fifty in regulation. I didn't see any of the game,
37:32
Speaker 1: but apparently not one stitch of defense was played. So
37:37
Speaker 1: I mean, I mean the NBA I was in for
37:41
Speaker 1: those twenty eight years, if you didn't play defense, you
37:45
Speaker 1: didn't play.
37:48
Speaker 2: I mean we always up to the All Star Game
37:50
Speaker 2: was like that, but now it's almost every game. It's
37:52
Speaker 2: kind of right, yeah, but anyway back back to hockey. Look,
37:59
Speaker 2: it's just weird. And I was thinking about this. We
38:02
Speaker 2: should do a series of how these teams handle every
38:05
Speaker 2: incoming team because as we know by now, each team
38:08
Speaker 2: comes in, does the three Arena tour and then goes.
38:12
Speaker 2: We should do a breakdown of every I've had all
38:14
Speaker 2: three teams fared against that one team, because I think
38:16
Speaker 2: it's interesting and uh and that analysis could be helpful
38:24
Speaker 2: for people.
38:25
Speaker 1: Well, I think, you know, it's the Western Conference teams
38:29
Speaker 1: and I think three teams have done it so far.
38:32
Speaker 1: I don't have a schedule in front of me, but
38:34
Speaker 1: Anaheim did it. They beat the Devils and the Rangers.
38:37
Speaker 1: They lost the they lost to the Islanders or did
38:42
Speaker 1: they beat the Devils the only one that they that
38:44
Speaker 1: didn't beat them more? Or the Rangers. I know that
38:48
Speaker 1: they that the Ducks beat the Rangers, but I think
38:50
Speaker 1: the Ducks Ducks beat the Devils too.
38:55
Speaker 2: I was emotional because of Crider coming back and that
38:57
Speaker 2: whole homecoming at the guard. I mean, it was a
39:00
Speaker 2: whole love fest for him.
39:03
Speaker 1: Again, and you gotta win the game. And Edmonton. The
39:08
Speaker 1: Islanders beat Edmonton, but they beat the Rangers, and they
39:12
Speaker 1: beat the Devils, and then we had Vancouver. You know,
39:17
Speaker 1: Vancouver has They came in last week. When they came
39:24
Speaker 1: into Preu on Sunday, they had twenty five points. They
39:28
Speaker 1: beat it. They beat the Devils, they beat the Rangers,
39:31
Speaker 1: they beat the Islanders, they beat the Bruins, and then
39:36
Speaker 1: they lost last night at the Flyers. So they started
39:40
Speaker 1: this trip and that came right after trading their best player.
39:45
Speaker 1: They won the first four games on that trip to
39:47
Speaker 1: three the Metro the three Metro teams, and then they
39:50
Speaker 1: went to Boston and beat them. I don't know if
39:55
Speaker 1: the pressure was off playing on the road. Everybody knew
39:58
Speaker 1: that that Quinn was going to be traded at some point.
40:03
Speaker 1: Did that alleviate some of the pressure, you know, didn't
40:06
Speaker 1: have to look behind him saying when is this trade
40:08
Speaker 1: gonna happen? Maybe I don't know, but they won four
40:11
Speaker 1: in a row on this very tough trip before losing
40:15
Speaker 1: in Philly last night. So yeah, those those west to
40:19
Speaker 1: east coast trips are definitely definitely interesting. So far, it
40:24
Speaker 1: hasn't worked out for the three local teams.
40:27
Speaker 2: I think Vegas came in also, by the way, Yeah, yeah,
40:31
Speaker 2: the the Islanders beat the Vegas.
40:33
Speaker 1: I remember that Vegas did come in, but I forget
40:38
Speaker 1: what they did against them.
40:39
Speaker 2: You know, like someone posted a video of them their
40:41
Speaker 2: kid at a hockey practice and the Vegas Knights were
40:46
Speaker 2: practicing in Chelsea Pierce. How cool is that?
40:48
Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I know the Islanders beat them, but I
40:52
Speaker 1: don't remember. I think they lost the Rangers. I don't
40:55
Speaker 1: remember what they did to the against the Devils, but
40:58
Speaker 1: you know, that's always an interesting thing to look at
41:01
Speaker 1: to see. Uh.
41:04
Speaker 2: I think my dad's Blackhawks are in the playoff run,
41:06
Speaker 2: which is pretty cool to watch all.
41:08
Speaker 1: I mean, you know, yeah, they're gonna have to get hot.
41:12
Speaker 1: They fit obviously, you saw that, but that Connor Brodard
41:17
Speaker 1: hurt his shoulder, so he's gonna that might effect that
41:21
Speaker 1: his chance to be on the Canadian Olympic team. But yeah,
41:28
Speaker 1: they got a good young team. They're under five hundred
41:31
Speaker 1: right now, but they gotta get hot to get back
41:33
Speaker 1: to get back in there.
41:36
Speaker 2: All right, So maybe maybe people who are trying to
41:38
Speaker 2: follow this, because I always think about this, is it
41:42
Speaker 2: better to watch the conference standings rather than by division.
41:45
Speaker 2: I always feel like you gotta see the conference outlook
41:48
Speaker 2: every time because as we know what eight teams make it.
41:51
Speaker 1: Yes, uh huh, And you're right. You gotta look at
41:56
Speaker 1: the conference. The first three teams in the metro in
42:00
Speaker 1: Atlantic as we're talking about the East, and then the
42:05
Speaker 1: next two teams in the conference. I have the most points,
42:08
Speaker 1: get the last two spots, spot seven and eight, and
42:11
Speaker 1: that's where the devils, the Rangers and the Islands are
42:15
Speaker 1: separated by just two points right now.
42:17
Speaker 2: So this is for all the craziness they were Rangers
42:20
Speaker 2: that had They're only a point out of That's unbelievable.
42:24
Speaker 2: What do you think about it?
42:25
Speaker 1: Yeah? No, I mean this is gonna go right down
42:27
Speaker 1: to the It's gonna go right right down to the Garry.
42:30
Speaker 2: Cone would say, right down to the nub.
42:32
Speaker 1: It is, it's gonna go right down to the Nuba.
42:35
Speaker 2: For Anaheim because they deserve the resurgence It's good.
42:38
Speaker 1: To see Anaheim back. There's so many young players. Alex. Yes,
42:42
Speaker 1: Vegas beat the Devils, they beat the Rangers, and they
42:46
Speaker 1: lost to the Islanders. So that was the other team
42:50
Speaker 1: that came in for the three of the Metro three,
42:54
Speaker 1: as we would as we'll call them moving forward.
42:56
Speaker 2: Minnesota's back up there. Also to see the Avalanche leading
43:00
Speaker 2: the conference. You know, I always love Nate McKinnon and uh,
43:05
Speaker 2: I like the Avalanche. I like I like when they're
43:08
Speaker 2: in this It's just that there are different presents. You know.
43:10
Speaker 2: It's just a good team to have in the playoffs.
43:12
Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I again, I hate that. I know
43:15
Speaker 1: we were talking about a superstar being underrated, but Nathan
43:18
Speaker 1: McKinnon might be underrated. He might be, you know. I
43:21
Speaker 1: mean he's right there with McDavid. Yes, McDavid, I would
43:25
Speaker 1: still say he's the best player in the world, but uh,
43:30
Speaker 1: McKinnon's right there, Alex. You think brock Nelson's happy he
43:35
Speaker 1: got he got traded and we signed with the Avalanche.
43:38
Speaker 2: Yeah, right, but yeah, that's another guy that had an
43:41
Speaker 2: emotional homecoming when the Avalanche came to town. Uh, and they
43:46
Speaker 2: was on the island and they gave him a nice
43:48
Speaker 2: round of applat you know, a nice yeah.
43:50
Speaker 1: I mean, you know, he scored two hundred ninety five goals.
43:52
Speaker 1: He was he was a two hundred foot player.
43:55
Speaker 2: Well, my favorite one was when uh you know, of
43:57
Speaker 2: course Tavares comes back and they put on the board congrats.
44:01
Speaker 2: I think he had scored fifteen. There was something where
44:04
Speaker 2: he made a most of his stuff was with the Islanders,
44:07
Speaker 2: so they put up a graphic about how he had
44:10
Speaker 2: most career points or something like that, and he did
44:13
Speaker 2: most out with the Islands, so they put him on
44:14
Speaker 2: the board. You remember that.
44:16
Speaker 1: I actually I do not. I do not remember that.
44:20
Speaker 1: But Tarvaris was a great Islander. Yes, he handled his
44:24
Speaker 1: departure incorrectly, and the Islanders should have held his feet
44:30
Speaker 1: to the fire. They should have traded them at the
44:33
Speaker 1: trade deadline. Like I said many times, it flew Lamborello
44:38
Speaker 1: was the general manager and he came in three weeks
44:42
Speaker 1: before free agency. But if he was a general manager
44:44
Speaker 1: during the season, he would have traded Tavus at the
44:46
Speaker 1: deadline and he would have gotten the boat load back.
44:49
Speaker 1: But that's water under the bridge and Taveras has slowed
44:53
Speaker 1: down a little bit, but he's had a solid overall year,
44:56
Speaker 1: a great start with the Maple Leafe, who are just
45:00
Speaker 1: amazing that they're having you talk about inconsistent. They are
45:04
Speaker 1: so inconsistent.
45:07
Speaker 2: Well, a no more hockey note because we haven't even
45:09
Speaker 2: talked about this yet, but the Islanders didn't add him.
45:13
Speaker 2: Another member of the Hall of Fame and Pat Lafontaine.
45:16
Speaker 2: And you know it's funny. I knew his name because
45:19
Speaker 2: he would always do the NHL Center rice previews or
45:22
Speaker 2: something like that, Like he would always be on the
45:23
Speaker 2: NHL Center ice doing stuff like that. But I never
45:27
Speaker 2: really saw him as a player. Now, I'm sure you
45:29
Speaker 2: saw him as a player worthy of the Islanders Hall of.
45:31
Speaker 1: Fame, absolutely and a very controversial trade back in ninety two,
45:38
Speaker 1: but I mean he played for the West Olympic team
45:44
Speaker 1: at back in eighty four and right after that the
45:47
Speaker 1: Islanders sign him. And believe that not the Islands were
45:50
Speaker 1: lucky to get him because they made a trade with
45:54
Speaker 1: the then Colorado Rockies, where now moved to New Jersey
46:00
Speaker 1: to become the Devils. They made a trade with the
46:02
Speaker 1: Colorado Rockies for their pick they traded and I can't
46:06
Speaker 1: remember who they traded, but it was a couple of
46:09
Speaker 1: guys that obviously weren't part of the championship Rostar and
46:15
Speaker 1: they drafted them. They had like the number three pick
46:18
Speaker 1: in the draft and they drafted Pat la Fontaine and
46:22
Speaker 1: uh as soon as the Olympics were over, he joined them.
46:27
Speaker 1: In eighty four, it was the drive for five to
46:30
Speaker 1: probably win the five Stanley Cups in a row, and
46:33
Speaker 1: they obviously they got to the Stanley Cup final for
46:36
Speaker 1: a fifth consecutive year, but they lost to Edmonton four
46:40
Speaker 1: games to one. Alex they were worn out from playing
46:44
Speaker 1: all those extra series, winning those nineteen series in a row.
46:48
Speaker 1: They were just worn out. And that was the first
46:51
Speaker 1: year of two to three to two, which the NHL
46:53
Speaker 1: only did for a couple of years. And manye Islanders
46:55
Speaker 1: feel if it was two to two to one one one,
46:58
Speaker 1: they think that they would have one. They would have
47:00
Speaker 1: won the fifth Cup and seven. It would have been
47:03
Speaker 1: tough though, because the Islanders were running on fumes at
47:06
Speaker 1: the end of that at the end of that five
47:08
Speaker 1: year run. But la Fontaine was a great Islander. I
47:11
Speaker 1: mean it was a great Islander. I mean one of
47:12
Speaker 1: the old time greats. That deserves it. Now they should
47:15
Speaker 1: retire his.
47:15
Speaker 2: Number I always thinking when I look up at those
47:19
Speaker 2: rafters at ubs, how I always remember those as a
47:22
Speaker 2: kid watching looking up at them at NASA Colisee, and
47:25
Speaker 2: it sort of brings me back to uh, to that
47:28
Speaker 2: era just by looking at those better. They haven't changed
47:30
Speaker 2: the banners one bit. It's the same as it was.
47:33
Speaker 1: You're right, you are correct.
47:37
Speaker 2: But well, remember when they had an owner. So I'll
47:40
Speaker 2: tell you a quick story about the Islanders. Well, first
47:43
Speaker 2: of all, Niles is back, and I had had this
47:48
Speaker 2: sphere of Niles. Every time I walked into the coliseum
47:50
Speaker 2: with my dad, Niles would show up and be you know,
47:53
Speaker 2: for a kid looking at this guy whose smile is
47:55
Speaker 2: very greekly it was. It was just a weird, little
47:58
Speaker 2: traumatic thing. But of course I seem here over the
48:01
Speaker 2: weekend at the ubs and I'm like, oh, I just
48:02
Speaker 2: got a picture of them. But there was that. But
48:05
Speaker 2: there was one game, and you remember this one. They
48:07
Speaker 2: used to shoot fireworks off after every goal in the Islanders,
48:11
Speaker 2: and I had to hide in my dad's jacket because
48:13
Speaker 2: I was so about that. Every time they came down
48:17
Speaker 2: the ice, I would hide in the jacket in case
48:19
Speaker 2: they scored. Well that's Okay, you remember that, though I
48:24
Speaker 2: don't know what the.
48:26
Speaker 1: Island, especially at the coliseum, and I know they used
48:29
Speaker 1: the same a lot of the same game operations stuff
48:32
Speaker 1: at ubs. First of all, because the Colisseum was so small,
48:36
Speaker 1: any noise was captured, you know, whether after a goal
48:42
Speaker 1: or at the end of an island of victory and
48:47
Speaker 1: then blowing the horns and shooting them off, the noisemakers
48:52
Speaker 1: and the fireworks. Yes, the the old Coliseum definitely held
48:57
Speaker 1: the sound in h in very good fashion. If you
49:03
Speaker 1: like sound. The Coliseum was the place to be. The
49:06
Speaker 1: fans were just loud when the alms were good. I
49:08
Speaker 1: mean I leave there some nights with my ears ringing,
49:12
Speaker 1: like I went to a concert after big.
49:14
Speaker 2: Games, and that is a hockey game we're talking about. Well, anyway,
49:21
Speaker 2: I seen the Long Island nets are there. And by
49:25
Speaker 2: the way, my Viscardi school is going to be at
49:26
Speaker 2: the l I nets. I gotta plug them. They're gonna
49:30
Speaker 2: do a wheelchair basketball in game tournament thing for like
49:34
Speaker 2: ten minutes at halftime at the Coliseum. So my best,
49:37
Speaker 2: my alma mater is gonna be at the Coliseum. I
49:39
Speaker 2: think that's gonna be so cool to go to that
49:41
Speaker 2: is cool. That's all I got. I'm gonna try and
49:44
Speaker 2: get on the court with them and take some video
49:46
Speaker 2: because hey, it's the coliseum. I don't care who's in there.
49:49
Speaker 2: It's still special that that whole place holds a lot
49:52
Speaker 2: of memories.
49:52
Speaker 1: So Doctor J played there, you know, he played for
49:57
Speaker 1: the Nets. That's where he played, not only the great
50:00
Speaker 1: Isder teams you know you had, and that's winning two
50:03
Speaker 1: ABA championships there. So yeah, while.
50:06
Speaker 2: We're on basketball NBA Cup, I know you think people
50:11
Speaker 2: just wipe the banner, you know, wipe their ass with
50:14
Speaker 2: the banner if you will, But it matters. They brought
50:17
Speaker 2: a trophy over the first time in fifty two years.
50:19
Speaker 2: I know it's not the trophy, but it's something.
50:22
Speaker 1: Yeah, Alex, it does nothing for me even if the
50:25
Speaker 1: Nets had one win it next year or a year
50:29
Speaker 1: after that. As they as they start adding real players
50:33
Speaker 1: to the team instead of having nineteen year old guys
50:36
Speaker 1: like they're playing every night. Now. Well, I watched, Yeah,
50:40
Speaker 1: I would watch, I guess because I'm because I'm a fan,
50:43
Speaker 1: but not many people were watching.
50:46
Speaker 2: One.
50:46
Speaker 1: At one point three million watched the the Knicks semifinal win.
50:54
Speaker 1: Two million watched the Spurs beat the Oklahoma City Thunder
50:59
Speaker 1: and the other semi final, and just about three million
51:01
Speaker 1: people watch the final, you know, even though it's on
51:05
Speaker 1: Amazon Prime. You can say that, but you know, Amazon
51:10
Speaker 1: Prime is getting sixteen, seventeen twenty million people watching any
51:15
Speaker 1: NFL game on Thursday night.
51:17
Speaker 2: So again, I just.
51:18
Speaker 1: Don't think it's a big deal. You play to win, obviously,
51:21
Speaker 1: and the Knixt to the good thing. A lot some
51:24
Speaker 1: of the Knixt players gave some two staffers and as
51:28
Speaker 1: somebody who was a staffer in the front office that
51:32
Speaker 1: that is very commendable that based some of their money. Yeah, that,
51:37
Speaker 1: you know, that's much appreciated. And but I think, I
51:41
Speaker 1: mean again, I think I'm telling you, Alex, this is
51:45
Speaker 1: the year for the Knicks to get to the finals.
51:49
Speaker 1: I mean, this is the year.
51:52
Speaker 2: And right here, this is it. This is their core
51:55
Speaker 2: right here, So this is it.
51:56
Speaker 1: I mean, it's you know, there's certain times where you
51:59
Speaker 1: and then sport where you gotta seize the moment, and
52:04
Speaker 1: this is then could they do I think they can
52:06
Speaker 1: beat a healthy okay see team four out of seven?
52:09
Speaker 1: I don't. But do I think they can get to
52:12
Speaker 1: the finals? Yeah, I really expect them to. I don't,
52:15
Speaker 1: even though Detroit might have better athletes, and but they're younger,
52:20
Speaker 1: they haven't gone through it. They almost beat them last year,
52:25
Speaker 1: I know, and injuries could play a part. But the
52:29
Speaker 1: Knicks have to be have to be favored to get
52:32
Speaker 1: to the finals. Maybe Cleveland, but Cleveland after you know,
52:37
Speaker 1: winning sixty four games or sere were they like seventeen
52:39
Speaker 1: and fourteen or something like that.
52:41
Speaker 2: Everyone else feels a bit off to me, So maybe
52:43
Speaker 2: maybe it's Yeah.
52:45
Speaker 1: So we'll, we'll, we'll, we'll see as the season goes on.
52:48
Speaker 1: And we'll also have to see the trade deadline. And
52:50
Speaker 1: if I was the Knicks, and I would never I
52:53
Speaker 1: believe in getting as you got to get a superstar
52:56
Speaker 1: in the NBA. But would the Knicks really be doing
53:02
Speaker 1: themselves any good by getting be honest at this stage
53:07
Speaker 1: where the chemistry right now was so good because they
53:11
Speaker 1: get you honest, they're not getting honest for Carl Anthony Towns.
53:16
Speaker 1: Even up it's gonna it's gonna be they gotta make
53:19
Speaker 1: it fit under the cap. It's probably gonna be Karl
53:22
Speaker 1: Anthony Towns. They have no picks.
53:25
Speaker 2: Josh Hart, Yeah, you can't ruin that chemistry, and I've.
53:30
Speaker 1: Seen chemistry ruined, So I just don't know if that
53:35
Speaker 1: trade right now makes sense. If you want to do
53:37
Speaker 1: something at the end of this year, uh yeah, but
53:42
Speaker 1: I don't know if I would do it in season
53:44
Speaker 1: that I would mind. Might revisit the Greek freak if
53:47
Speaker 1: the Knicks really are interesting and if Milwaukee is interested
53:50
Speaker 1: in making a trade with a team in their conference.
53:53
Speaker 2: So just just.
53:56
Speaker 1: Food for thought. I just don't know if the Knicks
53:59
Speaker 1: want to mess around with the roster they have now.
54:03
Speaker 2: All right, one last thing and I'm hoping to put
54:07
Speaker 2: this up on Tuesday, December twenty third, But no matter
54:10
Speaker 2: the results of the game, Kevin Willard is coming back
54:13
Speaker 2: to Newark, you know, this week, and that's gonna be
54:17
Speaker 2: emotional because well, Kevin Willer brought to that program a
54:21
Speaker 2: Big East title, yep, a renewed spirit you know in Newark.
54:26
Speaker 2: I mean, he brought a lot to that team for
54:28
Speaker 2: his time here.
54:30
Speaker 1: He did, he did it. He's an excellent coach. He's
54:34
Speaker 1: going to do an excellent job at Villanova. Steapenhall fans
54:40
Speaker 1: usually are not vile, so I'm sure he'll get booed,
54:46
Speaker 1: but I'm sure there won't be any body crossing the line,
54:51
Speaker 1: at least I hope not.
54:54
Speaker 2: But he did everything for that team. I don't know
54:55
Speaker 2: how they could boo him, you know.
54:57
Speaker 1: Because he when you leave, it's just like when he
55:00
Speaker 1: Tavaris look various for the Islands, but they still they
55:03
Speaker 1: still boom to this day. But you know, the real
55:10
Speaker 1: tip of the hat goes to Shahan Holloway, who took
55:13
Speaker 1: a team that and I know it's a different, totally
55:15
Speaker 1: different roster. There were seven and twenty six last year
55:18
Speaker 1: after winning n two years ago, and what he has done.
55:23
Speaker 1: You know, they were eleven in one. They could easily
55:25
Speaker 1: be twelve and zero. The only game me lost by
55:28
Speaker 1: two points to USC and they should have won that game.
55:31
Speaker 1: What he has done. Yes, they have much better talent
55:33
Speaker 1: this year, but he's got them. He's got them to
55:36
Speaker 1: h to uh buy in. They all play defense. They
55:41
Speaker 1: have good chemistry which I guess is gonna well, which
55:43
Speaker 1: will get better as the season goes along. H No,
55:47
Speaker 1: they're not a they're not a an NCAA championship level team,
55:54
Speaker 1: nowhere close. But they were eleven in one after going
55:57
Speaker 1: seven and twenty six last year, and they they want
56:00
Speaker 1: at Kansas State. They want at Providence, they'd be twenty three,
56:05
Speaker 1: twenty third ranked North Carolina State. Uh, Shahan Holloway is
56:10
Speaker 1: an excellent basketball coach.
56:13
Speaker 2: Nay, from what I could see, they look like they're
56:15
Speaker 2: gonna be a contender this year. So we'll have to see.
56:17
Speaker 2: But as well, any coach, recruiting is so key. Recruiting
56:20
Speaker 2: is absolutely key.
56:22
Speaker 1: So well, recruiting and and and nil. You know, who
56:25
Speaker 1: are you gonna pay? How much you're gonna pay these guys?
56:29
Speaker 1: So so, uh, at least it's watchable. I mean, at
56:35
Speaker 1: least so when you watch Seaton Hall, it's I mean
56:38
Speaker 1: last year they were out of it, you know, three
56:40
Speaker 1: minutes into the game. So uh uh you know, so
56:43
Speaker 1: that's that's a good thing.
56:46
Speaker 2: Well, Lou, I'm glad we covered the gamut here on
56:48
Speaker 2: the One Leg Up Network. Uh, Merry Christmas to you.
56:52
Speaker 1: Merry Christmas to you.
56:53
Speaker 2: I do believe that if I was would let basketball
56:55
Speaker 2: NBA have their day. I just never the end of
57:00
Speaker 2: on Christmas will never make sense to me unless it's
57:02
Speaker 2: a Sunday, you know. I just I don't know.
57:06
Speaker 1: It's all about money, my friend.
57:09
Speaker 2: That's it, and all about Netflix and I'm sure that's
57:12
Speaker 2: not the only game that will go streaming, so we'll
57:14
Speaker 2: have to see how this goes, all right, Lou, love
57:17
Speaker 2: you man, Merry Christmas and we'll talk to you before
57:19
Speaker 2: the new year.
57:21
Speaker 1: Look forward to it. Alex, thank you very much. You're
57:23
Speaker 1: the best.
57:25
Speaker 2: All right. That's Lou Terminiello Terminela's take care on the
57:28
Speaker 2: one like up Network
