Latest / The Epstein Chronicles / The Ghislaine Maxwell Trial Gets Delayed After She's Smacked With A Superseded Indictment
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: We thought that the Maxwell trial might be postponed. And
- 0:04Speaker 1: as of yesterday, in a ruling made by Judge Nathan,
- 0:08Speaker 1: that is exactly where we find ourselves. Now, the original
- 0:12Speaker 1: trial was scheduled to kick off on July 12th. Now,
- 0:18Speaker 1: according to Judge Nathan, and due to the superseding indictment
- 0:23Speaker 1: and the vast expansiveness of this case, she has decided
- 0:28Speaker 1: that to go ahead and push it back a little bit. Now,
- 0:33Speaker 1: she says the fall. So that could be all the
- 0:37Speaker 1: way up until December, right? So who knows exactly when
- 0:40Speaker 1: the trial is going to start now, but sometime during
- 0:45Speaker 1: the fall. Now, as you all know, I planned on
- 0:48Speaker 1: going in in July and staying for roughly a month
- 0:52Speaker 1: to cover the whole entire trial from start to finish. Well,
- 0:57Speaker 1: with this being pushed back into fall and work starting
- 1:01Speaker 1: up again for me and, you know, real life, it's
- 1:06Speaker 1: going to be a juggling act for sure. But I'm
- 1:11Speaker 1: going to at least, at the very least, get there
- 1:15Speaker 1: for two weeks of that trial, no matter when it starts. Now, probably,
- 1:21Speaker 1: I'll probably try and set it up where I get
- 1:24Speaker 1: there for you know, the ending of the trial where
- 1:27Speaker 1: we get to the sentencing phase and all of that,
- 1:31Speaker 1: if it's only a two week stretch. Now, maybe I'll
- 1:34Speaker 1: be able to figure it out and still stay for
- 1:36Speaker 1: the whole month. But I'm not too sure about that.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I had it all, you know, planned for July. So
- 1:44Speaker 1: I'm going to have to go back and look at
- 1:47Speaker 1: the schedule and try and make some adjustments to try
- 1:50Speaker 1: and stretch it out to stay for the whole month.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But at the very least, I'll still be there for
- 1:56Speaker 1: two weeks. But with the postponement and pushing it back,
- 2:00Speaker 1: it just makes it a little bit more difficult to,
- 2:04Speaker 1: you know, juggle all of the knives in the air, right?
- 2:08Speaker 1: But I had a sneaking suspicion that this would occur,
- 2:10Speaker 1: so I didn't get locked into any of my travel
- 2:13Speaker 1: dates as far as, you know, airfare and stuff like that.
- 2:17Speaker 1: So I'm still flexible in that regard, meaning... I wasn't
- 2:23Speaker 1: locked in financially to this date or anything like that.
- 2:27Speaker 1: But the other part of it is my time. I
- 2:31Speaker 1: really just don't know where things are going to be
- 2:35Speaker 1: come this trial now as far as what I'm going
- 2:37Speaker 1: to be doing professionally. The last, oh, I don't know,
- 2:41Speaker 1: 18 months or so, I've been able to just really
- 2:44Speaker 1: focus on this podcast because of everything being shut down
- 2:48Speaker 1: in my fields of professionalism. you know, with hospitality being
- 2:54Speaker 1: closed down and then obviously no entertainment, I've had oodles
- 3:00Speaker 1: of time on my hands to work on the podcast
- 3:03Speaker 1: and to travel to New Mexico, talk to other sources
- 3:06Speaker 1: and other places. And I've had just tons of time
- 3:10Speaker 1: to do that. But with the city opening up and,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you know, work popping back up, obviously, your boy is
- 3:19Speaker 1: going to try and, uh, dive in and try and
- 3:23Speaker 1: recoup some of this money that's been lost over this
- 3:26Speaker 1: disastrous 2020. So I'm going to try my best to
- 3:30Speaker 1: make sure that I could be in New York for
- 3:32Speaker 1: the whole month for this trial. But I just can't
- 3:37Speaker 1: promise that at this point. So guaranteed two weeks, however,
- 3:43Speaker 1: I can always find a way for two weeks to
- 3:46Speaker 1: finagle my way into New York for sure. But a
- 3:48Speaker 1: whole month just might not be doable at this point. Again,
- 3:52Speaker 1: not for sure. We'll see how it goes. But just
- 3:55Speaker 1: giving you folks the heads up a few months out that,
- 3:58Speaker 1: you know, with it moving from July, it's going to
- 4:02Speaker 1: be a little bit more difficult for me to be
- 4:06Speaker 1: in New York for the whole entire month. So I'm
- 4:09Speaker 1: going to try and make it happen. Obviously, I'm going
- 4:10Speaker 1: to do everything in my power to make it happen. And,
- 4:16Speaker 1: you know, make it so that I'm there for as
- 4:19Speaker 1: much of the trial as possible. But I just can't
- 4:23Speaker 1: commit to that right this second, a whole month right now,
- 4:26Speaker 1: before I see what my schedule is with work coming
- 4:30Speaker 1: back and stuff like that. So we're going to have
- 4:32Speaker 1: to play that by ear, folks, and see what's up
- 4:35Speaker 1: and see what the lay of the land is come
- 4:38Speaker 1: time of the trial. But one thing is for sure,
- 4:41Speaker 1: you can guarantee that I'm going to be there for
- 4:43Speaker 1: at least two weeks. So... That's where we're at with
- 4:47Speaker 1: the whole postponement right now and my personal travel plans
- 4:51Speaker 1: and what my plans are as far as covering that trial. Now,
- 4:57Speaker 1: with that said, there's a lot of restrictions opening up
- 5:00Speaker 1: in a lot of states. And if I can figure
- 5:04Speaker 1: out a way to get into New Mexico without being
- 5:07Speaker 1: quarantined and all of that stuff, if they lift some
- 5:09Speaker 1: of the restrictions and that kind of situation down there,
- 5:14Speaker 1: then what I'm thinking about doing is, instead of the
- 5:16Speaker 1: New York trip in July for the trial, maybe cruising
- 5:19Speaker 1: back down to New Mexico in July instead and taking
- 5:23Speaker 1: another run at Zorro Ranch. This time I have a
- 5:26Speaker 1: few different pieces of gear that'll go a long way
- 5:30Speaker 1: to us getting some more footage and better pictures and stuff.
- 5:33Speaker 1: When I went in February, it was really bare bones, right?
- 5:37Speaker 1: The podcast had only been going for a few months.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I really didn't know what I was doing for the
- 5:41Speaker 1: most part. But I got down there and I spoke
- 5:44Speaker 1: with some sources and I got a lay of the land,
- 5:46Speaker 1: got down to Zorro Ranch itself. And yeah, maybe July
- 5:52Speaker 1: we'll take a look at that, making another run down
- 5:55Speaker 1: to Zorro Ranch, considering we can't go into New York
- 5:59Speaker 1: in July, obviously, because there's no trial. So, you know,
- 6:02Speaker 1: we have a couple of different balls in the air, folks,
- 6:04Speaker 1: and we're going to see what's what. But if there's
- 6:08Speaker 1: no restrictions in July going to New Mexico... then I'm
- 6:13Speaker 1: pretty sure that I'm going to head back down. So, obviously,
- 6:17Speaker 1: I'll keep you all updated on what my plans are
- 6:20Speaker 1: and which way the wind is blowing. But that's where
- 6:24Speaker 1: we're at as of now, folks, as far as my
- 6:27Speaker 1: travel plans and what I plan to do as far
- 6:31Speaker 1: as covering this case from here on out. So... Let's
- 6:35Speaker 1: jump into the article about the postponement, and let's see
- 6:39Speaker 1: what Adam Klassfeld and Law and Crime has to say
- 6:44Speaker 1: about the Ghislaine Maxwell trial being postponed until the fall.
- 6:49Speaker 1: This article was authored by Adam Klassfeld at Law and Crime. Headline,
- 6:57Speaker 1: Judge adjoins Ghislaine Maxwell's trial until the fall because of
- 7:00Speaker 1: new sex trafficking indictment. A federal judge has postponed Ghislaine
- 7:06Speaker 1: Maxwell's trial until the fall of this year, citing the
- 7:09Speaker 1: prosecution's decision to bring a new indictment in late March,
- 7:13Speaker 1: adding federal sex trafficking charges. Again, we thought that this
- 7:18Speaker 1: was going to happen. You know, this is the sort
- 7:20Speaker 1: of thing that you have to expect in these kinds
- 7:23Speaker 1: of federal cases. These things draw out over a period
- 7:26Speaker 1: of years most times. And when we're dealing with high-profile
- 7:31Speaker 1: people like Maxwell... and such a high profile case, I
- 7:35Speaker 1: figured that's where we would be at here. And as
- 7:41Speaker 1: much as it pains me, and as much as I
- 7:43Speaker 1: don't like it, I understand why the court has acquiesced
- 7:47Speaker 1: to this request and decided to push it back a
- 7:50Speaker 1: little bit. And you also can understand why Maxwell's people
- 7:55Speaker 1: were going so hard at Bell, right? They knew that
- 7:58Speaker 1: they were going to push for this adjournment. They knew
- 8:01Speaker 1: they were going to push for this continuation. So they
- 8:05Speaker 1: wanted to do the full court press to try and
- 8:08Speaker 1: get Maxwell out on bail so that she could, you know,
- 8:11Speaker 1: live in the lapses of luxury while they push this
- 8:15Speaker 1: case back and try to kick the can down the
- 8:17Speaker 1: road a little bit further. And that's where we're at now, right?
- 8:22Speaker 1: So we got the adjournment. We got the continuance, and
- 8:29Speaker 1: now we're just waiting on Judge Nathan to give us
- 8:32Speaker 1: an actual date, and that will come after the defense
- 8:36Speaker 1: and the prosecution confer. Having carefully considered the parties' respective positions,
- 8:44Speaker 1: the court grants Maxwell's request for a short continuance until
- 8:48Speaker 1: the fall of 2021 to allow the defense to prepare
- 8:52Speaker 1: for the additional charges brought in the second superseding indictment. U.S.
- 8:57Speaker 1: District Judge Allison Nathan wrote. And also, it's more time.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I think this is a double-edged sword for Maxwell. Because
- 9:06Speaker 1: there's nothing on the books to say that the government
- 9:08Speaker 1: can't slap more charges on her. Conspiracy charges, RICO charges.
- 9:13Speaker 1: What about the Mann Act? Why hasn't the whole book
- 9:17Speaker 1: been thrown at her? You see what the government likes
- 9:20Speaker 1: to do usually. Say you're a middle-level operating associate for
- 9:25Speaker 1: the Cosa Nostra, right? Well, they're going to slap you
- 9:29Speaker 1: with 100 RICO charges in the hopes that one or
- 9:31Speaker 1: two stick. Why isn't the same sort of pressure and
- 9:37Speaker 1: force being applied to Maxwell and all of her rich friends? Oh,
- 9:41Speaker 1: it's great that they're being prosecuted. Don't get me wrong, folks.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I'm ecstatic about that. But let's be real. Why have
- 9:50Speaker 1: they not been charged with RICO charges yet? I just
- 9:54Speaker 1: don't understand it. There is no justification for them not
- 9:58Speaker 1: having the complete book three. at them. Now, maybe during
- 10:01Speaker 1: this period where there is this continuance, this adjournment, maybe
- 10:07Speaker 1: the federal government slaps her with more indictments. Now, I
- 10:13Speaker 1: don't know for sure that's going to happen, but there
- 10:16Speaker 1: certainly is enough evidence there To drop a big fat gigantic.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Rico case right in her lap. And add that to
- 10:24Speaker 1: the eight charges. She's already facing. The court rejects Maxwell's
- 10:30Speaker 1: alternative request. To continue the trial date. Until January of 2022.
- 10:35Speaker 1: And the government's alternative proposal. That the court adjourn trial.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Until March of 2022. So basically. The government and Maxwell.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Both offered to push this trial back. Until 2022. And
- 10:51Speaker 1: Judge Nathan is not having it. She says nope. We're
- 10:54Speaker 1: not going to push it to 2022. I want this
- 10:58Speaker 1: done in the fall. Now what's interesting to me anyway.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Is that the government was willing to push it to
- 11:05Speaker 1: March of 2022. We're talking 10 months out. Why would
- 11:12Speaker 1: they be willing to do that folks? What does the
- 11:15Speaker 1: government want? Have up their very long sleeve... Federal prosecutors...
- 11:23Speaker 1: Opposed any delay... As stressful to the survivors... Look... 100%...
- 11:30Speaker 1: Imagine being one of these girls... Going through this BS...
- 11:34Speaker 1: At every turn there's a postponement... A continuation... The federal
- 11:39Speaker 1: government is offering you... You know... Platitudes and apologies... But
- 11:44Speaker 1: no justice... It just seems like a nightmare that's never
- 11:49Speaker 1: going to end for them. And I know just as
- 11:52Speaker 1: an outsider from the outside looking in, who has covered
- 11:55Speaker 1: this case every single day since October of 2019, that
- 12:02Speaker 1: I've felt that in my soul as well. I want
- 12:06Speaker 1: this case to be over and done with and put
- 12:09Speaker 1: in the rearview mirror, folks. I know there's some people
- 12:12Speaker 1: that want this case to go on forever, and they
- 12:14Speaker 1: don't care that the survivors are burdened. They don't care
- 12:17Speaker 1: about any of that. But me personally, I want this
- 12:21Speaker 1: shit to be over and done with and put on
- 12:24Speaker 1: a shelf with a nice little bow. This has been
- 12:28Speaker 1: one of the most excruciating grinds, mentally for me, I
- 12:33Speaker 1: have ever been involved with. More than college, more than
- 12:37Speaker 1: projects professionally at work when I've worked in the financial
- 12:41Speaker 1: sector or in entertainment. This has been a mental... grind
- 12:47Speaker 1: like I have never experienced. So I can't even begin
- 12:50Speaker 1: to imagine what the people who have actually suffered at
- 12:54Speaker 1: the hands of this man have felt throughout this. The
- 12:59Speaker 1: longer this case remains pending, the longer the survivors suffer
- 13:02Speaker 1: the anxiety of anticipating their trial testimony and uncertainty of
- 13:07Speaker 1: awaiting a resolution. Prosecutors wrote late last month, As a result,
- 13:12Speaker 1: multiple survivors oppose any adjournment of the trial date. And
- 13:17Speaker 1: I understand that completely, right? Again, like I was just saying,
- 13:21Speaker 1: who wants to deal with this shit every single day
- 13:23Speaker 1: of their life? And at every turn, you're denied justice.
- 13:29Speaker 1: You're denied your chance in court. And once again, justice
- 13:33Speaker 1: is pushed back. So I get why it would be frustrating,
- 13:37Speaker 1: why it would be stressful, right? For these gals... A
- 13:44Speaker 1: grand jury brought a new indictment against Maxwell... After prosecutors
- 13:48Speaker 1: supplemented their case... With someone known only in court documents...
- 13:52Speaker 1: As minor victim 4... Other anonymous survivors told prosecutors... They
- 13:57Speaker 1: wanted a speedy trial... Look... There is no doubt... That...
- 14:05Speaker 1: We should have a speedy trial... And that these survivors...
- 14:10Speaker 1: should have their day in court, right? It should have
- 14:15Speaker 1: happened years ago. And here we are once again, a
- 14:20Speaker 1: couple months out, let's kick the can down the road
- 14:23Speaker 1: just a little bit further. Very frustrating indeed. In particular...
- 14:32Speaker 1: Minor Survivor 3 expressed feeling significant stress during the pendency
- 14:36Speaker 1: of this case and a strong desire to have the
- 14:39Speaker 1: case brought to a close through trial as soon as possible,
- 14:42Speaker 1: prosecutors wrote in April. Minor Survivor 2 also indicated that
- 14:48Speaker 1: she has experienced an enormous amount of stress while this
- 14:51Speaker 1: case has been pending and wishes to see the case
- 14:54Speaker 1: brought to trial. And you, I mean, how can anyone
- 14:58Speaker 1: blame these gals for wanting that? Over and over and over,
- 15:04Speaker 1: year after year, day after day, minute after minute, second
- 15:07Speaker 1: after second, they're burdened with what occurred here. So it's
- 15:14Speaker 1: about time that we stop the nonsense, right? We stop
- 15:18Speaker 1: kicking the can down the road. And we start to
- 15:22Speaker 1: administer a little bit of justice. Now again, I understand
- 15:26Speaker 1: why there is a delay here. I get it. And
- 15:28Speaker 1: looking at it from... a you know completely detached viewpoint
- 15:36Speaker 1: understand completely why this trial was delayed that doesn't mean
- 15:40Speaker 1: i have to like it right nathan acknowledged the court
- 15:45Speaker 1: is very mindful of the countervailing considerations that will that
- 15:49Speaker 1: require that any adjournment be no longer than necessary But
- 15:54Speaker 1: the judge added that the additional charges, which extend the
- 15:57Speaker 1: time frame of the alleged conspiracy and introduce a new
- 16:00Speaker 1: alleged survivor, spells more work for Maxwell's defense. And that's
- 16:05Speaker 1: a fact, right? And again, as much as I don't
- 16:09Speaker 1: like it, I understand it. And if it was me,
- 16:11Speaker 1: I'd want the extra time to prepare probably as well. So,
- 16:17Speaker 1: sometimes in life, we don't like things, right? But we're
- 16:22Speaker 1: forced to accept them. These additions will require the defense
- 16:27Speaker 1: to 1. Review a substantial amount of discovery that is
- 16:30Speaker 1: now potentially relevant as a result of the S2 indictment, 2.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Re-review discovery that it had previously considered in light of
- 16:40Speaker 1: the changes to the case against her, 3. Conduct new
- 16:44Speaker 1: investigations based on the new charges, including potential interviews of
- 16:48Speaker 1: new witnesses, and 4. Re-evaluate her trial preparation and strategies.
- 16:54Speaker 1: the judge's ruling states. So basically, it's to give Maxwell's
- 16:59Speaker 1: team time to reevaluate their position, to talk to new
- 17:04Speaker 1: alleged witnesses, and to try and formulate their defense into
- 17:07Speaker 1: something that is acceptable to Maxwell, I guess. Though New
- 17:15Speaker 1: York is readying to open up again after long periods
- 17:18Speaker 1: of COVID-19 restrictions and lockdowns, the judge added that the
- 17:22Speaker 1: pandemic remains a complicating factor. Sorry, it shouldn't. If people
- 17:27Speaker 1: have been vaccinated, this should all be a moot point
- 17:31Speaker 1: right now. I'm really getting tired of this being used
- 17:35Speaker 1: as a crutch. Do the people's work. The court system
- 17:39Speaker 1: can't shut down because of this. No more excuses. As
- 17:46Speaker 1: the government indicated in explaining the delay in filing the
- 17:49Speaker 1: new charges... travel constraints and other safety concerns resulting from
- 17:53Speaker 1: the pandemic have slowed trial preparation and complicated the logistics
- 17:58Speaker 1: of conducting investigations, she noted. Now, don't get me wrong.
- 18:02Speaker 1: When the pandemic was raging, right, and before the vaccine
- 18:05Speaker 1: was here and, you know, there was a lot of uncertainty,
- 18:07Speaker 1: I understand. But moving forward, I don't want to hear
- 18:10Speaker 1: any of that bullshit. All these people are vaccinated, right?
- 18:13Speaker 1: They all got the Fauci ouchie. So let's just keep
- 18:16Speaker 1: it moving now, folks, all right? We have to learn
- 18:19Speaker 1: to adapt. We can't be shutting the whole world down anymore, alright?
- 18:23Speaker 1: It's time to, you know, get things going. Prosecutors had
- 18:31Speaker 1: argued that delay was unnecessary because Maxwell succeeded in splitting
- 18:35Speaker 1: her upcoming trial in two. The first trial will have
- 18:38Speaker 1: a jury evaluating claims that Maxwell engaged in sex trafficking
- 18:42Speaker 1: and groomed and abused Jeffrey Epstein's survivors. The second... will
- 18:47Speaker 1: assess whether she lied about it under oath in civil
- 18:50Speaker 1: litigation with Virginia Roberts, who alleged that Maxwell defamed her
- 18:55Speaker 1: by denying it. So there was a bifurcation of the cases, right?
- 19:00Speaker 1: We had the two trials now split off from the
- 19:03Speaker 1: original one. And the prosecution was hoping that since the
- 19:07Speaker 1: trial was split into two, that we wouldn't need to
- 19:12Speaker 1: have this postponement. But obviously Nathan thinks differently, Judge Nathan.
- 19:17Speaker 1: And she's well within her scope of power to make
- 19:19Speaker 1: this decision. Although the perjury counts were recently severed, the
- 19:25Speaker 1: court cannot conclude that this sufficiently offsets the additional burdens
- 19:30Speaker 1: placed on the defense as a result of the new
- 19:33Speaker 1: charges and expanded time frame resulting from the S2 indictment,
- 19:38Speaker 1: Nathan's ruling states. So again, she's basically saying that she
- 19:42Speaker 1: can't guarantee the defense that, it offsets the burden that's
- 19:49Speaker 1: placed on them to have everything prepared. So in light
- 19:54Speaker 1: of that, she has decided to go ahead with the postponement.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Maxwell pleaded not guilty to the new indictment late last
- 20:03Speaker 1: month when she appeared in court in person for the
- 20:05Speaker 1: first time for her arraignment. Previous hearings had been virtual
- 20:09Speaker 1: in light of coronavirus-related restrictions that were in place in
- 20:14Speaker 1: July 2020. Judge Nathan ordered prosecutors and defense counsel to
- 20:19Speaker 1: propose a fall trial date by May 10th, just one
- 20:23Speaker 1: week from now. So I said May 12th earlier, and
- 20:26Speaker 1: obviously I misspoke. It's May 10th, folks. May 10th is
- 20:30Speaker 1: when they're going to get together to figure out when
- 20:32Speaker 1: this postponement and new trial will begin. So you can also, obviously,
- 20:40Speaker 1: read Judge Nathan's documents in this link. Like usual, the
- 20:44Speaker 1: link is provided in the description box. But folks, this
- 20:48Speaker 1: really shouldn't be a surprise to any of us who
- 20:50Speaker 1: have been following the case. We saw the writing on
- 20:53Speaker 1: the wall. When the superseded indictment came down, we saw
- 20:57Speaker 1: Ghislaine Maxwell's team gear up and move in the direction
- 21:02Speaker 1: of getting this postponement. It was just a matter of
- 21:05Speaker 1: Nathan giving the okay, Or saying no. And obviously in
- 21:10Speaker 1: Nathan's eyes. The defense needs some more time. To get
- 21:14Speaker 1: their defense together. So. Maxwell's trial postponed. From July 12th.
- 21:22Speaker 1: To sometime this fall. And for me folks. I'll tell
- 21:30Speaker 1: you what. I. Really really wish it was going to
- 21:35Speaker 1: happen in July. Honestly. But that's how the legal system operates.
- 21:41Speaker 1: That's how things go when you're dealing with cases like this.
- 21:45Speaker 1: So you have to remain flexible. As far as the
- 21:50Speaker 1: survivors go, though, oh, I can understand why they're dealing
- 21:55Speaker 1: with anxiety and stress about all of this. They want
- 21:58Speaker 1: to get the show on the road, right? They want
