- 0:09Speaker 1: You're listening to a podcast from News Talks B Follow
- 0:12Speaker 1: this and our wide range of podcasts now on iHeartRadio.
- 0:16Speaker 2: So the Aussie government has outlined a world first AI policy.
- 0:20Speaker 2: They want to fast track new data centers, give ossie
- 0:23Speaker 2: artists greater protection over their work and protect them from
- 0:26Speaker 2: AI scraping. Paul Spain is the CEO and a futurist
- 0:29Speaker 2: at Guerrilla Technology and with us Hi Paul Hi, Hannah,
- 0:32Speaker 2: what are they predominantly worried about here? What do you
- 0:34Speaker 2: get from albanezy speech? Is it loss of jobs or
- 0:36Speaker 2: loss of copyright?
- 0:39Speaker 3: Look, I think the copyright side they're really they're really
- 0:43Speaker 3: leaning into and this is partly because it has has
- 0:46Speaker 3: a financial impact and yeah, that ultimately puts Dobbs at risk.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Okay, so how do you actually stop this from happening? Like,
- 0:56Speaker 2: what are the regulations they can come up with?
- 0:59Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I mean they haven't really given a lot
- 1:03Speaker 3: of detail at the stage, so it's going to be
- 1:05Speaker 3: interesting to see how it plays out. But I think
- 1:08Speaker 3: the wanting to have more control over the big global
- 1:13Speaker 3: AI players as it comes to Australian created content, and
- 1:19Speaker 3: they're going to really, you know, put their foot down
- 1:22Speaker 3: on on that basis, And you know, I guess we
- 1:25Speaker 3: think of all sorts of things are generated by AI.
- 1:28Speaker 3: But if you know, for instance, look at music, what
- 1:31Speaker 3: they're not going to probably not going to tolerate is
- 1:33Speaker 3: music that is is too obvious as a ripoff of
- 1:38Speaker 3: Australian music. And we would see that across in a
- 1:41Speaker 3: whole range of areas when it comes to when it
- 1:44Speaker 3: comes to AI, Paul.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Let's say, let's say AI makes a song and it
- 1:49Speaker 2: sounds a hell of a lot like do the locomotion?
- 1:52Speaker 2: What's Albaneze going to do about it?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Well, I mean, when it comes down to individual cases,
- 1:58Speaker 3: you know, I don't know how that will actually play out.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Can you actually do that?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Right?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Is it even possible?
- 2:05Speaker 2: Exactly? Is this not the same thing as the B
- 2:07Speaker 2: S A and News even trying to police the internet
- 2:10Speaker 2: when it comes to the Internet. It's so bloody heart
- 2:12Speaker 2: to do this stuff. And Albanesi is probably just virtue signaling.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Well that that could be the case. I guess, you know,
- 2:19Speaker 3: it'll come down to what they actually come up with,
- 2:23Speaker 3: because we've really got the you know, the political announcement
- 2:26Speaker 3: today without really seeing the full detail of how this
- 2:29Speaker 3: will play out.
- 2:30Speaker 2: What do you make though of the data centers. That's fascinating.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So they want to fast track the data centers, but
- 2:34Speaker 2: they want to restrict the water use. What's going on there?
- 2:37Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I think that this is one of the
- 2:40Speaker 3: concerns that people that are having. You know, we've seen
- 2:43Speaker 3: a lot of pushback in the US against data centers,
- 2:47Speaker 3: you know, AI data centers appearing in different regions because
- 2:51Speaker 3: it uses up a lot of water and power, and
- 2:55Speaker 3: so as there's that requirement on the companies that are
- 2:59Speaker 3: establishing the data centers to actually sort the power, sort
- 3:04Speaker 3: the water so it doesn't push up local prices and
- 3:06Speaker 3: have an impact. You know, that's something I think then
- 3:10Speaker 3: becomes a net positive to have these data centers coming
- 3:15Speaker 3: into the country.
- 3:15Speaker 2: All right, Paul, thanks very much. Always appreciate your expertise.
