- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, a pleasure every time.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, before we start any podcast, we obviously want to make sure it is off to the right beat, the right rhythm.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm gonna ask you to leave me in a podcast prayer.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: Will it be to the EDM gods, the people?
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: So please hold on your hands, please leave me in a prayer.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: That, oh, oh, look at you.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: Black!
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I know, I have a favorite color.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: Very predictable.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it is.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: Um, it's the EDM gods to the people who bring the vocals and sing the songs.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: Make us feel good.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: Make us feel seen, heard, low-respected and protected.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: We pray to you.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: EDM gods take us on through the year, through this life.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: And that is dance and sing.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, no.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: What a stance, amen.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Amazing.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll take a pause for a second.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_01]: Jason, does it cycle out?
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: Frohover speaking on the TV?
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: Just in case.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Amazing.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: I love your prayer.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: There's many more.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: So, I kind of forgot there's someone else in the studio with us.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's just something I do.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, in the corner, that girl over there today, she is the Italian stallion, the girl who's been on this podcast before.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: The entertainment publicist.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: Mike Fitton.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: What up, what up?
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for having me.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: So nice to see you again as well.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: So good seeing you as well.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be great.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: Holy, really nice.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: I have to be nice to Mike.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: She has a dear friend.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: The rules of the podcast are simple though.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: If Mike wants to speak, ever, he has to hit his button.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: Mike, can you hit your button?
- 2:44[SPEAKER_02]: My Kate's up button.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: I will play use it like once and I will just interject and then if you don't want to answer a question or you don't want to let Mike speak, you or I can hit the spot and can you hit the spot and put me?
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: I would never.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, does everyone understand the rules of the road?
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's begin.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: What a fun time.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now,
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: I know this, but not everyone may know this.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: Your role name is Haley Williams.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, it is.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: What's the reason for the name Haley?
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: Were you just like, there doesn't need to be another Haley Williams?
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I mean, I think there was times where I was getting tagged as Haley Williams when it was actually me.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think I hate it was a nickname anyway, but I think there was just kind of like the confusion the BBC Yeah, attacking Hayley Williams instead of me Hayley Williams.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: I just sort of maybe this wouldn't work Did you shoot like ever talk when the tags happen like the mist tag?
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: She was like, what up girl?
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like hey
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: I know I did like I did a an Instagram post like years and years and years ago and I was like oh just in case you see this I like I'm sorry you know I'm also called Haley Williams but yeah just I kind of thought you know if I was going to move forward move forth in my career maybe then needed to be a slight change on my name so Haley's been a nickname and yeah just felt like the right progression but I wouldn't love to meet Haley Williams so you never met no not yet I think
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: You know, maybe after this, she might hit the DM of the wrong tag next time.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, oh yeah, that could be bad that big one.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: So why is the nickname Halo?
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, was that like a growing up nickname?
- 4:18[SPEAKER_02]: It was, I think, came from like, function bands.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, hey, hmm.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because from the function band background, I used to be a vocalist on a boat.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I did all.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_02]: I've done it.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: I've done it all.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so let's go to the very beginning.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: You talk about, on a boat, where did your vocal background start?
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: So I was an incredibly shy vocalist.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_02]: I used to just sing in my room.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_02]: My mom used to sing around the house.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: So he's just singing with her.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_02]: But I was very like, I'm not singing in front of you.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: I've been my room listening to my eye carry and Whitney.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_02]: And I'd just be singing at the top of my lungs on my own.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_02]: And then if my mom was outside the door, I'd be like,
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: No way!
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: But I was very shy and like, I think for me, if there was a curtain, I'd be behind it, you know?
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I sort of felt that feeling of, I don't know, like emotional therapy and release whenever I was singing and I kind of leaned into that, over the years I sort of chased that feeling and then kind of felt like if I could give somebody else that feeling that I have, that would be pretty cool.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what knee we know, which one you'd cover?
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, yeah.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like, but the fly was the album that I had in my pee.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, like, it was twilight and I'm the father and love.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Let Mike say something, just, no, don't you have to hit the buzzer, Mike?
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: What, growing up, when you're learning and you're listening to the likes of Whitney and Mariah, what were the songs that you were like trying to emulate in your room and hit those notes and kind of, I feel like so many artists have learned from listening to those two artists.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_02]: No, do you know what, honestly, it was the bodyguard album and I've probably said this, I've said this many times.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_02]: But I've got this recording of myself and I was four years old, I was behind the couch.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: I actually really remember it, had a fish a price like record.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody had that shit.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you have to hold on to it.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: The white one that you have to hold on to, right?
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it wouldn't be like afterwards.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_02]: But I've got like a recording of me singing.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: I always love you from like four years old, which exists on my, I've got it on the email.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: But that was my like, that was my, that's my jam.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's so good.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: I love the joyous that you can rise on.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, isn't it?
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, honey is well, obviously.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: OK, Mike, you can rest.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: OK.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: Turn that buzzer around also.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: I had that logo.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: Turn that blue away.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, the next actor logo.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: If we have a budget on this podcast.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: So from being shy at a young age, how did you then start to not hide away from the curtain and step more into a seeing spotlight, so to speak.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, do you know what?
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: I slowly but surely I was doing and this wasn't confidently at all, but I was like Kinesh sort of after school kind of drama dance.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_02]: I'm intrigued.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: But very very low key.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think my mom was kind of like, oh, you know, like my mates were going and I was like, oh, okay.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying that.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I did like ballet and stuff when I was younger and did like some grades and everything.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I kind of then got into contemporary dance a bit.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: What do you mean a bit like you just dabble in a PA like no, and just very very quietly, you know, okay nothing that there's yeah I would like to say that I did more than I did, but it was just kind of an after school thing, but then I think that there was no addition, I remember for like a singing part and my mom was like you should just
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: do it and it's like okay so I sang this case to our song because I love jazz and um yeah I remember they were like oh yeah do you want it's part and I I said yes but I was kind of like what have I done?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_02]: yeah and it wasn't a big part but I think I just kind of like very shyly stop
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: like started to get out of my own way a little bit because I was like for some I just felt very calm even though I was very shy but when I was performing I felt very calm on stage and then I kind of felt like this feeling that I haven't decided if I can give that to the public.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah I was like if I can bottle this and just send it I don't know so I kind of been this is pushing this like feeling yeah when I'm singing so I don't know I think I sort of
- 8:26[SPEAKER_02]: It took me a long time to feel comfortable getting on to stage though.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you didn't release your first singles till, was about 2018?
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah, my first solo was 2020, but the first time, yeah, I ever featured on a song was like, yeah, 2018.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, like, what, what did you mentally prepare yourself to, like, put yourself out there like that or like, the opportunity come up and you're like, I guess my time to shine is here.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: Well,
- 8:50[SPEAKER_02]: I was always in everybody else's band, never mind.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: So I went to uni and I did music there.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: On part of that was getting in bands of varying different genres.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I've been in metal bands, folk bands, funk bands, jazz bands.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, bands like...
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: The list.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_02]: All, basically nearly every genre that you could kind of think of, I'd been writing for other people's projects in that sort of vein.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: And I didn't really know who I was as an artist, because I liked so much.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: And I knew the feeling that I wanted to kind of have in music
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: would create in the end but I was like what would it be.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: So don't know girl.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah I know you know and I started writing in that world and then I was asked to stay on a track as a vocalist after doing some writing and being a session vocalist and yeah then it kind of happened a few times.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah you know and I think it was just something that really felt like organic and natural but I
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: at a chance meeting with a rapper singer from the UK called Example who really took me under.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he took me under his wing and mentored me and you know, he stayed on one of the tracks that he had vocals and then he took the track and yeah, I'd been on tour them a few times and just a few.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he took me on tour three times.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_02]: It was amazing and it really gave me that kind of insight into the world that I'm now in and
- 10:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was a totally different world that I've been in before even though behind the scenes I've been doing music, but it was yeah, I can say for everybody else is Project and never mind I didn't know really what oh, who I would I get it but I got it You had oh you had my kid in the back
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay, question for you.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, if you were saying that, you know, it would it took you a while to kind of get comfortable to performing your music, right?
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: I would imagine when your solo comes out in 2020, which was a very interesting time in the world that that kind of make it almost easier for you because we were all behind the scenes, right?
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: No, everyone was at home, so did that make releasing your own music easier.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: That's a really good question, actually.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think that the song, actually came, I went on tour with example, actually the week before we went into lockdown.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that was the first time I'd been out on tour with him.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_02]: So I sang that song live on the stage.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_02]: We actually co-wrote that song together as well.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_02]: Naked was the first song that I released.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think it was interesting to perform it live and then after that week was over, yeah it was totally just you were at home, it was kind of illegal to do shows and gigs and then it's sort of just lived online, you know?
- 11:24[SPEAKER_02]: So I think it was funny because it was like here go and then it was like a closed off.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, here's a little taste and then actually just kidding, just kidding, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: So on a, so great folder, Elliot, example, took me on tour and really was there for me in a co-op this song with me and then, yeah, had a, had a taste of it and then ripped away.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I think maybe it did probably help me kind of slowly grow into myself, you know, like as an artist, because it gave me a bit of a, a pause to reflect and build behind the scenes because it wasn't any other way.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: I need.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: So you were like pumping them out at that point?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there was a good amount of tracks, actually.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_02]: It was an interesting time, too, because yeah, they were just before my solo single.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_02]: I think the first one would DJ Cache, that was just just before.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_02]: And then, yeah, I think for me, I was always quite surprised when people were like, oh, like, you vocal on that track or like a record song.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I was like,
- 12:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I, yeah, I just, it's been an amazing journey and I'm so grateful to everybody who's, yeah, been a part of it.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: And you had a huge, you had a huge career moment when you and John Summit put out the tracks you did.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_01]: How did you meet John Summit in, in your case, were you just writing casually for you, too?
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we're working together and saying, let's write a collaboration.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, actually it came out of escape because John did the remix for escape and then me and a similar team who wrote the top line for escape Also wrote the top line for where you are So because he did the remix we kind of thought oh, she kind of liked that vibe We have something for you.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_02]: We have we have a little gift.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so we sent over the top line for where you are and then yeah And I've said this a few times, but I think it was the quickest turnaround of a track that I've ever worked on, you know when you say quickness like give it give a time
- 13:43[SPEAKER_02]: Twenty minutes.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm not that I mean we can have a note could have been in the sending time But I mean, I think it was probably within like a month and a half maybe those track was sort of like as as it is now I think I don't think it was much more time than that.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think it was because I remember being like, oh, okay Wow, you know, so that's from sending the top line to like master done.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's crazy
- 14:05[SPEAKER_02]: Not released but like yeah, but like just ready to go.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: What was it like working with John summit like what is your dynamic like is the two of you?
- 14:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it's really nice and you know, I think now because we built such a kind of like foundation because obviously we've had like a few moments together, which is amazing and like obviously sharing a stage with him too, so we've had like these live moments and also behind the scenes studio moments too, but I think it's just it's a great process because it feels very free, you know, it doesn't feel like there's any kind of I don't feel any pressure.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: if you know what I mean like I think it's nice because you can both lean into what I mean obviously because where you are it's sort of like ah and escape I kind of know what sort of thing he likes and also what I gravitate towards you know is how I write and how I sound so it felt yeah really organic yeah after your first collaboration pulled numbers girl like it it it blew the streets out what was your reaction to two of you from that song being like
- 15:06[SPEAKER_02]: To be honest, I think it's still, for me, I'm still in, I don't know, not shock, but like, the fact that it's resonated so much and also still resonating with audiences.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: I've totally not taken that for granted.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_02]: I just,
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: I think when you write something, you always kind of hope that it will make sense to people and resonate with people but just how much it has done is something that I'm still processing, I think.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: Me and the other writers as well, you know, I think it's changed our lives really because it's just something that we didn't, you can never really know how it's going to land.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_02]: You create something and you have believe in it and you hope that people will love it but you really don't know.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, thanks!
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: How do you how do you how do you own a nightclub and do that?
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: I've seen the videos Oh, yeah, you have to EDC and like all the performance is worse.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: Where's that vocal control?
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, I mean, I think just, yeah, years and years of listening to Whitney and singing Whitney in my bedroom.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think my teacher, yeah, you know, honestly credit, credit to Whitney.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: I, um, yeah, I don't know.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_02]: I think that like, I've always kind of enjoyed big, soaring vocals over tracks.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_02]: And I've just for years and years just emulated, tried to kind of like get my mechanisms and breathing under control.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I've had nodules twice, um, because I... Oh shit.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, so I mean, I kind of didn't really know how to technically do it, but I was doing it, you know, so I was kind of like Just going for it most of the time vocally.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_02]: Not really realizing that maybe like doing Marathon's every single day is not great for you
- 16:42[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, health really, but like I find now, by the way, find out better.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_02]: Oh good, but yeah, I think it was just something that I, it was like capturing the feeling really, and I think just years of doing that on my own, and then when I did do it wrong, then finding out the correct way to do it.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: Just making sure I'm not absolutely ruining these.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I think I used to swim a lot as well, like I used to swim for my counties.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: You see, there's so many things.
- 17:08[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it's talent.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_02]: No, come on.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, you do.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, but I think like the control I think from that really helped as well.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, okay, I'm gonna pass it.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: What was the response home?
- 17:21[SPEAKER_01]: When you were working on these tracks, people who, you know, there's a US audience, there's a European audience.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: What was it like for the people in Europe, I guess versus the US response?
- 17:32[SPEAKER_02]: I would say that my audience is definitely a lot larger in the US and also in Canada really rather than Europe and the UK.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_02]: Definitely.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's probably to do with maybe certain songs, whereas in anything more so over the state side because of where the DJs I've worked with of kind of predominantly maybe had their audiences built.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: So I feel like
- 17:53[SPEAKER_02]: It's slowly but surely making a bit more sense at home as well.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_02]: But I think my audience is definitely a lot more state-side in Canada, kind of North America, and yeah.
- 18:01[SPEAKER_02]: I don't disagree.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: I know Mike's way to come in for some reason.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel his presence.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_00]: No, I love that so much because I feel like so many times you hear of an artist who is, you know, based overseas, and it's kind of like they have, they've got that bread and butter of a fan base there, but the US kind of takes a while.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: So to hear that it's the opposite for you.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's so interesting.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's a total opposite, yeah.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you're gonna ask me this but I'm using it a gig in London, which was really nice but I was kind of like I made it free.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_02]: I just said, you know, I need to do it once to turn up.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: Read.com.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, I think sharing music is like one of the most amazing things I feel personally like that you can kind of do to connect with people.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_02]: So I just was like, if anyone wants to come along,
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Come on, ride through.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm like, I'm doing it, you know, this gig.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_02]: So it was really fun, but I mean, I was kind of nervous because I was like, is that it's a new engine, nope.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, it was like 250 people and this, like, church hole, it was, yeah, it was great.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: We came to one of your shows in LA.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: Mike, what's the place?
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: At the Al Ray.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: The Al Ray?
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's so beautiful.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: So beautiful.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: Fills a room, no matter how big.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: No matter how small, your voice is just like, damn.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, there were so many points during that show where Annie and I kept looking at each other because your vocal was just so crisp and on point and good.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: We were like, how, how does someone sound so good?
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: It was impeccable.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's so nice.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_02]: I like honestly and that that I was seeing before that.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_02]: that show I watched the footage back obviously and you know you've seen before about obviously that you can see pretty much everybody in the audience I think the only people that I couldn't see was people that were very very bad because it was silhouetted by like the backlights I think of a bar yeah so I couldn't see I was at that bar well oh so I would have seen you silhouetted
- 19:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I had a drink and then I came down.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: No, we were to the right of the stage.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: We were right there, but he would go up to the bar.
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: I was like a drink.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, you got it.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_02]: It's got us.
- 19:53[SPEAKER_02]: But I honestly, it was like the most magical evening, though, like watching it back.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: It was just, yeah, I thought really thoroughly loved that gig.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: OK. Yeah.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_01]: You were on your tour, you put out your first album.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: What's it like looking back at dusk?
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: because it's been a minute while.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, since she's had her time, and now obviously the new albums coming out, but let's still progressively go through the career.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: Dusk was your first student album.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yeah, yeah.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: How long does that feel looking back now?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_02]: I, like before I was saying I kind of always dared to dream to have like a product and you know like a physical thing that I could say I've put this together and it's kind of like a little diary of my life in little instances and I, I kind of never, I don't know this sounds very defeatist doesn't it but like I kind of never really thought that that would be my life that I'd be doing that.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I don't know.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_02]: No, it was like... No, it was like... No, it was like... No, it was like... Yeah, because I was kind of like... Wow, it's like, you know, that I get to do this, you know?
- 20:49[SPEAKER_02]: And... and that album took...
- 20:51[SPEAKER_02]: I feel for my label because it took three years to put together, which was just because of the collaborations.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_02]: I was, you know...
- 20:59[SPEAKER_02]: So grateful to be a part of, but obviously kind of making an album makes sense alongside different tracks.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_02]: It was kind of got to find them my time.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_02]: But I had some music that I'd written over those three years that like really pinpointed different parts of my life that I could kind of like, I can just go right back to mentally as to where I was.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_02]: So it's nice to look back on the album now to be like, wow, this like,
- 21:21[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I don't know.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_02]: I see like a progression of myself and hopefully like tiny little bits of confidence that I feel like maybe I've picked up along the way and what I'm doing and yeah, I think like having a vinyl as well was really important to me.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: I don't disagree.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_02]: Love a vinyl.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Love a vinyl.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: Just let, just say it, Mike.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_00]: So, no, no, because he, no, but everything you said, I, I have to know what it feel like for you, that first moment when you had the physical, the final in your hand, like what did that feel like for you, and just to see your, your vision come to life.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: The preface, Mike loves a physical copy of anything.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: He loves a CD, he loves his, his Britney stack is pretty, pretty big.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: actually amazing, I honestly am the same I'm the same I think like having that tangible thing because we live in such a digital world right so it's like having that like analog physical thing if the incident was gonna go down you're gonna be absolutely fine because you've got you know the vinyl or the CD or the cassette you know but I honestly I got the first test press and I remember that it got sent I think it got sent to my manager's address and he forwarded it on and he was like are you gonna play it and I was like yeah I'm gonna play it
- 22:28[SPEAKER_02]: And I actually want to put it on, I felt so emotional.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I was like, this little white label vinyl that had no artwork just yet.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: It was literally first test press.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_02]: We were just checking that everything was on there, okay.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_02]: So I was really intently listening to the starts and the ends of each track.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: But it was just like...
- 22:43[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, you know, when you kind of really always feel like something that I would love to have and I just never really thought that I'd have it and it was, yeah, I was emotional.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 22:52[SPEAKER_02]: And I felt a bit like, is this quite soft indulgent to be listening to myself and be like,
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I was so emotional.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_02]: I was just sitting there and I was like, wow, this is actually like happened.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and I love collecting vinyl when I'm in cities.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: I like try, I might even go to, I need to go and find what's in here.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: I try and like go and find a new record store and pick up a vinyl and usually I'll go home with like at least two or three in my case.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's an expensive hobby, but uh, you know.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: Love a hobby.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's very special.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's a hobby.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_00]: When you look at your collection, you remember all the places you went and picked these things up in the different cities, and why you were there in the first place.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_00]: So, yeah, yeah.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of sense, and I just imagine I felt so special for you getting that.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was, and I think I still have that test press, I do.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, so I've got like, yeah, it's just, it's just so nice to have something tangible.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: You're first album was very emotional too.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: I think, correct me from wrong.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: You also talked about being cheated on in the album.
- 23:50[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, well, it was not cheated on, but it was like, you know, when you just have those feelings where some things like not working out, and you can feel it bubbling under the surface, and you know, like, I'll never know if that's what happened, I don't know.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: But like,
- 24:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know when you kind of like, oh, the aftermath I suppose and what was like to put out something so like personal publicly Mean like well the girls respond to this well.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that this will land the way I hope it does?
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I do know what I think that
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: it's funny because you can only ever write from the heart and be authentic self and I hope when I feel like from different artists I resonate with that the most but I always hope that like I hope people feel the kind of earnestness in the song and like the authenticity of the story and also I'm really sorry if people resonate with it that much because if I've been through it too I am sorry!
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: Because it's a lot, yeah, you know, but I think like, yeah, I just think the most cathartic thing for me definitely was right in those songs and I just, yeah, I always, I am nervous always before I put something out but I just hope that maybe it gives people others some solace or comfort, you know?
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: What is the routine to perform live?
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you have it?
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: Here's my get ready with me.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, we don't go out for a week.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: We don't vocally strain anything for like two months.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_02]: Mmm.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I know I'm definitely going to film my case with throat coat, but we can't get it in the UK.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have throat coat in the UK?
- 25:13[SPEAKER_02]: You can't even Amazon it to the UK.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, I've tried so you just like buy bulk here in the US.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_02]: I just like yeah, I mean, you know I every ride or I'm like, oh, so cute.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: Please in Samoyos And so what do you do in the UK if you like just like lemon wedges?
- 25:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean like yogi tea the rather the companies They do they do like this throat comfort to you which is like nearly it But it's not quiet.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's not it.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: We'll send you some as like a little care package every Over your deal.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be your throat coat dealer.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: I'll do some pizza pics for you
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you know, go to mark expenses, bring me back some jewelry.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_01]: I won't be upset.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think he bets.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_02]: And you'll have to get those.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_02]: I'll get you some Percy pigs as well because they are like, there's no other sweet like it.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_01]: We have you heard, you heard it here, you have a deal.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: You get nerves performing live like you seem like the girl who gets nerves, but I don't want to project No, no, do you know what I do if I think about it, but if I don't think about it, then I'm cool I like it I think it's like if I if I look out into the crowd and I'm like, whoa, no, no, go out there and do that thing now I'm like, whoa, but then I'm also kind of like, well, I'm not going to be like no So you weren't you weren't nervous like opening for EDC like was it Omnia?
- 26:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I was nervous, but I kind of just threw it to the back of my mind, you know, I was like, are we good?
- 26:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I think that if I, if I overthink everything, then I start having like a pacing backwards and forwards moment back.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: Just with Oreos.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_01]: Just panic eating.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, it crumbs everywhere.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_02]: But I, yeah, I think like most of the time I'm pretty like calm because I sort of really just try and zone.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_02]: Not zone out completely, but I go somewhere else when I'm performing and I'm really calm when I'm performing.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know why.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: What about that?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: Don't know.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_02]: Anxiety wouldn't person.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_02]: I have like quite I'm I overthink everything all of the time But when a month stage I just I don't know it sort of just goes and just vanish just be the microphone Yeah, no I'm kidding it this days
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: So you got off of the tour, the first album, and then what was the moment that sat in with you being like, I just did that?
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, did you have like a rest period?
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: Did we veg out?
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, good question.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_02]: I think like a bit of a mixture.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_02]: I have tried to be more present afterwards.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_02]: You know, to sort of be like, take it in, actually, really kind of process.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_02]: But sometimes it's hard because, I mean, it's amazing as well because there's always another thing which is so I'm so grateful that there always is, you know, little things to kind of just go, oh, actually now I'm getting another flight, so I think about that later.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: But, you know, I do try and, like, really stay as present as I can and take the moment in.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: But I do love getting home and ordering a pizza and binge watching lots and hopefully.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Kylie's on my next.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: I've got to watch the documentary.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: You gotta get out of here.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_00]: You gotta get out of here.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_02]: It's my next.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm doing it.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, definitely.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then when you're on your downtime now, if people ask you to perform, like, what's that process like?
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: Do they like this John call you up and say, Hey, do you want to come perform with this marathon with me?
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what, what, when do you get tapped in?
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: It really depends, you know, like, do you mean is in kind of like, when do I mentally go, okay, we're gonna get like into performance mode?
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like, I mean, sometimes you get off tour and then you're asked to come be a guess performance somewhere and you're like, I thought I was on a rest period.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I think like, as long as it wasn't something to say like, if I had like, I don't know, if I'd like had a vocal problem, say like, if I thought I actually do need to have like, which is never happened to a trod, but you know, if I ever thought I need to have some vocal rest.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_02]: Probably if I knew it was something that to be smart I would probably still take that period of time But usually I'm like yeah, I'm like yeah, I'm like yeah, I'm packed Doesn't take you much about the door.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_02]: No, I'm like yeah, I'm I'm ready to go.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_02]: So I just I just love it And I'm just so honored to be able to say that this is my career All right, yeah, and I hope it continues.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 29:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: I also think you've collaborated a lot of people and now you're on to your second album.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yeah.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: What change going into this album?
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: Compared to your first album, it has dusk change the way you looked at future collaborations or you as an independent artist.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_02]: Good question.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_02]: I think the difference between dusk and dark was that I've been through a lot personally behind the scenes in like a really
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: bad way.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I've probably been in the dark as period of my life.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_02]: I still feel like a huge loss.
- 29:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: And it was one of the hardest set across tail-free in here.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: There's such a beautiful personality.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's one of those things I think that like writing dark.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know I was going to write it.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know if I had anything in me.
- 30:03[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't really know if I was able to come up with anything because I was just not okay.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that having no pressure applied, I had a few sessions booked in, that were very kind of like, you know, have to do anything, there's no kind of like weight on you to just do this album, don't worry about it, see if you have anything to give.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I was in these spaces with some incredible people that I felt.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_02]: like I was able to share authentically and be open with and really talk about what I was going through at that time and not trying force any sort of creativity into those moments.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I think the difference between the two is that it basically happened over this base of eight weeks, the dark writing process, whereas dusk was over three years of like collected moments from over that time period.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: But this was just a real cathartic release
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: The writing or putting pen to paper scenes to do any of it make you feel better that it's out there that once dark was completed you felt maybe the darkness was gone.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, do you know what I think it definitely has helped me heal to a degree?
- 31:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like it's it's helping.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think I don't know healing so linear not so linear.
- 31:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's kind of it changes obviously day by day, sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days.
- 31:19[SPEAKER_02]: But I think writing it like really helped lift a lot of the darkness away.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: And I kind of felt like if I can write this and somebody else connects with it and it helps then.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so yeah, you know, that's amazing because I feel like darkness is one of those things that so many people run away from and they fear and it sounds like you really kind of just decided to like nest and live in it for the creative of this album.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I guess my question is from the beginning of the process, right?
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't really know what we were doing right by the end we have a body of work.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: What does dark now mean to you on the other side of that whole entire process?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's interesting.
- 32:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's like, I feel like it's actually quite a warm place, even though it's kind of like not been the most positive experiences that I've lived through, but it actually feels like a place of comfort.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_02]: Because I found I found more emotional depth within myself that was able to speak about more openly than I thought I was ready to are able to.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I kind of even though I know that the subject matters quite hard at times, I felt like it
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: So I kind of feel like even though it's like dark for me was kind of the reason why I chose the album title.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_02]: I already knew it was going to be called that, but it's kind of the most magical time you can listen to music in the day.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I sort of thought like it's kind of like a warm dark room.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: Even though it's full of sadness and heavy stuff, but it felt like it was a comfort.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:47[SPEAKER_02]: I hope that answers that.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: That totally answers that.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's so interesting because what you say about like darkness and nighttime, right, being a great time to listen to music, it's so true because, especially when you're alone, right?
- 32:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Because you can really succumb to whatever emotion you're feeling that this person is singing to or what these lyrics are saying, right?
- 33:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: And allows you to connect to it in a different way that may be, had you been listening to it driving down the 101?
- 33:09[SPEAKER_00]: You're just kind of like, oh, this is fun, but then like midnight heads and you're like, oh,
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: I get what they're saying, and it's totally different the next day for you from that day forward.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because I think, I was one of those things, I know like, dusk is like one of my favorite times a day to listen to music too, so I kind of was like, oh, the next progression yet.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's like there's nothing else kind of inhibiting your listening time.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I feel like if we, you know, we did dusk and we did dark, if there's got to be a dawn coming, right?
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: We're like a daylight.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't know.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_02]: Well, in the morning, you don't know the genres.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_02]: showtunes showtunes oh my gosh whip it out I mean I could I look a bit above her.
- 33:49[SPEAKER_01]: Do what you got to do make the girls work
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, your collabs are deep, like Medusa, sub-focus.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's just hard to sit across the table from you, still number one, just as you are, you're talent, but also, you are from Nelly Furtado.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: We need to talk about it.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: We need to lay down the groundwork with that like, what the fuck happened?
- 34:12[SPEAKER_02]: This is a good story, that's great.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_02]: So, Nelly covered one of the songs that I do, and we were kind of like, okay.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_02]: So, my manager reached out to her manager and said, would there ever be anything that you'd like to do together?
- 34:24[SPEAKER_02]: And she shot in the dark?
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and she said, yeah.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_02]: And we were like, okay, and I wrote this song, faded in my bedroom in 2020 on Zoom with my friend Lizzie Jennings and Matt Austin Jack, who's actually also friends with Annabelle England.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, it was a song that I always loved.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_02]: It was one that lived on my laptop, and I nearly put it out myself.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_02]: But I was like, hmm, but I don't know if it fits on dusk, but I love it.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_02]: And I always felt like something was going to happen with it.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_02]: I never really had a plan.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: But we were like, we have this song.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_02]: And we sent it over.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_02]: And she liked it.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_02]: And did she, yeah.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_02]: She put a vocal on it, did a verse on it.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so I'm still like, what?
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, many necks you stepped on with that.
- 35:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like quite a few.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember just like, the, when I share music, it's with Mike Fittown.
- 35:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like I was and I'm like we share music weekly.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like here's my my girls from like Abisa like doing their thing or whatever And then I'm like there's this collab that came out that was out of left field That I need more of yeah, how was it recording with Nelly or separate we did it over the hours and folks But I just
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: You were a big fan.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: Always.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm still processing, if I'm honest.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: I actually can't believe every time I sing it live.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_02]: And it's because I harmonise with the verse that Naly does, but every time I sing it live, I'm like,
- 35:47[SPEAKER_01]: What will you ever perform with Nelly for Tata?
- 35:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, do you wear wigs?
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly how I sound audio-wise.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: But do you think you'll ever have a time that you two decide to grace us with your stage presence?
- 35:59[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I would love that to be a time.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_01]: I would like to hit up her manager and ask now, if you ask something, I can ask something.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_02]: Go on.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: Please, that's it, just please.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: I hope that you're having, we would all love it.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's been so interesting because I feel like over the past few years, Nellie has had a very interesting pivot into dance music, right?
- 36:17[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I see.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that work with Dom D'Allo has been so great.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_00]: And when we saw she was doing music with you as well, we were like, stop two of our favorites.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this is gonna be amazing.
- 36:26[SPEAKER_00]: Stop fair.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, oh.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's nice to have a gift.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_02]: I, oh, yeah.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_00]: I just hope she sticks with it.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like she works so well in this space.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: So do I.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: I really do.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, me too.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_02]: And I honestly, like, her voice just works so well over-down to everything, over everything.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think just put more.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: She's my girl.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_02]: More.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: I know I love you.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: But like, she's so hot.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: Just I'm just like, manager for misguess, like, anytime I'm like out of wedding, I'm like,
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_02]: Iconic songs.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_02]: I think just kind of absolute timeless as well as soon as they go on.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_02]: It's like everybody's like, well, nobody's mad.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: No, everybody's like, thank God you put that on.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_02]: But honestly, I'm still processing it.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, that's so major.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: No, it's an honor.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: She knows your camera.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: So that was a fun moment, then you album is right around the corner.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yes it is.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: And you have a tour.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: I do.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: Can we expect anything from this tour as a surprise, like maybe a Nellie for Toto performance?
- 37:25[SPEAKER_01]: Please manage your say yes.
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like what is this tour coming up for you in tailing?
- 37:30[SPEAKER_02]: This tour, I mean, I'm going to do a mixture of the collaborations and then also a mixture of the new body of work, dark, and then also some of my favorites from dusk, so it's going to be hopefully it's going to take people on a journey and really hope that I hope that people feel like when they leave, they've got to know me a little bit better.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, and I would love to say that Natalie would join me, but I cannot promise anything, but Yeah, no, I know anyway.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just training.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm losing that song, no.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'll be there.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, let her know.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_00]: When you go on the tour, what are some of the songs from dark that you're really excited to bring to people for the first time?
- 38:08[SPEAKER_02]: mmm, that's a good question.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: There's a few that I've done, there's a few that I've not gotten my set list at the moment that I'm getting to be added, but there's a few that I have added.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_02]: There's one called, I don't believe it anymore, which is a bit different to what
- 38:25[SPEAKER_02]: I've even released off the album so far.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_02]: Again, it's quite avant-garde and it's full of like detuned guitars and bases and it's very, I don't know.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited to play that because it's very cyclic, but it actually builds in a really nice way into kind of like this big.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: Coral thing.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm all.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's just like a lot of vocals.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: I like your vocabulary, it's one thing.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Or on that.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like a whole reef.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like a corner reef.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: But it's honestly, I, yeah.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think I'm just really excited to play.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: I'm excited to play easier.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: Even though that's going to be really hard to sing.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: Bro, good luck.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I know.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I yeah, I think there's gonna be some moments that feel really emotional But I'm really excited to just sort of need in the songs that I've had released previously into the new music that maybe people would have only just heard because yeah, I'm releasing the album on the 31st of July and then starting touring August.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just really excited to just bring you a long, yes, get on girl.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, aside from things that happen this podcast, you may look sometimes and say, wow, Andy, that was a really dumb question.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: Why do you ask that?
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we have a whole segment for stuff like that called really dumb questions.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you're excited.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: I am great.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now question for you.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, your outfits are really dark.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes all black like today.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: How do you not sweat like you are in performances of broad daylight.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: You are just heavy vested coats and things.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: What what's up with that.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: I, I don't know, I, to be honest, I get hot, but I don't like overheat too much.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_02]: I say that.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_02]: I have one latex on stage before and that was the whole other experience.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_02]: But so I've learned not to do that now, because that's, uh,
- 40:09[SPEAKER_02]: You're wearing like a portable fan with you or like, no, I just, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 40:30[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, I do drink a lot of coffee and not a lot of water, so maybe that's the vibe.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a liquid-hairedy-do-it, it's like a kind of count it.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: I know me too, I'm like, if I'd like five today, that's a lot of water.
- 40:39[SPEAKER_01]: This cup is full of water, you see?
- 40:40[SPEAKER_01]: I've not touched any of that.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: I've had a little bit.
- 40:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you probably.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: You're better than me.
- 40:45[SPEAKER_02]: You should.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: I should.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I should.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_00]: OK. OK, when you're not wearing black, because I feel like you'd love black.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: What's the second favorite killer to wear?
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think we never see you in anything but black.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_02]: No, I know.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_02]: Do you know what?
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: I used to wear like a lot of color, but then I just felt like over the last five, six years.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_02]: I've just really kind of found myself feeling so much more comfortable in all black.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: But.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_02]: But I do like purple.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like dark purple and like sometimes some grays.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: That sounds very boring, doesn't it?
- 41:18[SPEAKER_02]: I'm like, you have a thing all together.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like they're all part of the color we own in your black.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, you swear a lot of color like a lot of the time, but I just kind of, I think that I found, I feel the most myself, you know?
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: But I do, yeah, the color purple is like, yeah.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: Question for you.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: What is it like showing up as the artist, the vocalist versus the DJ to the venue?
- 41:42[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, okay, so I've only ever done two DJ gigs in my life, and I've done like mixes, but I do them on my own.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: So when I'm home, I feel very like comforted by this base that I'm in, because no one can see me, and I can't be perceived.
- 41:58[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm like more comfortable DJing at home, definitely.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, girl.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you showing up to the function with the DJ.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: What's the treatment of you versus like treatment of John?
- 42:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, do you mean by people?
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: Interesting.
- 42:11[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, interesting.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_02]: So I was like, you meant me as a DJ.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, well, that's, I don't know.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_02]: I'm surprised that you know that I did those two gigs.
- 42:16[SPEAKER_02]: Um, it was like, that's some good knowledge.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: But, um, yeah, I don't know.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, everybody's always been so respectful and I've always felt like very, yeah, like looked after and, yeah, yeah, I've never had any issues.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_01]: No one at the night club is like, who this?
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like everyone's like, right this way.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pretty good.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_02]: I usually turn up with the same team, so I'm kind of like, I'm with the DJ.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's me, I hello.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I'm never kind of like, you know, I'm always like, they kind of can talk because you're wearing all black and like an outfit.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm really quite chill though, because I'm kind of like, thank you.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm usually just, I think I don't know that I've ever had it before, where I've been like, not with the party, going in.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm usually kind of with everybody.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm sort of like, okay, thank you.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I'm, yeah, oh, I've not had any miss apps so far and we enjoy the club scene like that's our music or like oh, I've got to be home I do love the club.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_02]: I love the club.
- 43:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, me too But I also love being at home to an ordering pizza and watching Netflix, so layers layers I can't always be at the club at 3 a.m.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_02]: I know, but yeah, it's like that kind of night when you have those moments where like I needed that.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you did that release.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah And are you a girl who can perform at the early hours in the morning like
- 43:30[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, if I have a sleep before, yeah, I did do high with the bether.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_02]: I did high with Medusa in a bether and like, their set was 3am until 6am.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I think I was on at 4am.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, but I woke up at like half two.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_02]: So I was like, this is pretty good.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_02]: I went and we went for dinner, which was amazing.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_02]: And then they were like, now we're going to go sleep.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, okay.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I kind of pop was like, we went on a run.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: And then we like, you know, got up, did I think?
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: Don't know how you all do it.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's, do you know what, it's funny, actually.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think maybe the adrenaline just takes place at the sleep, you know?
- 44:02[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: Do you ever like see your your time that you have to perform and you're like are you fucking kidding?
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like seriously, I'm gonna this late.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_02]: I sometimes worry that I'm gonna be like Red phone is a great friend of mine.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I'm always sugar free.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I should same same.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I should go free.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, always.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: Well
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Mike's the real diligent, not hitting his button.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, you know, Mike, it's time for your time shine.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: Questions from the Pina Gallery?
- 44:33[SPEAKER_01]: Mike gets four minutes of uninterrupted time.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, like you want to rush.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: So if you don't want to answer anything, you may hit the button.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: He may be invasive sometimes, I know.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to hit the button, I feel like I'm interrupting when I hit the button.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, oh, so nice.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so this is perfect timing, actually, because we're just talking about your love for the color black.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like currently in the dance music space, a lot of artists,
- 45:01[SPEAKER_00]: shy away from putting themselves on their album covers and I love that for both dusk and dark you are on the album cover and I feel like the color palette is like undeniably halla it's so in your realm tell me a little bit about just like packaging right and the art and the importance for that and kind of what your involvement is in that.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's a sucker for packaging and fonts and I love that about him.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_02]: Do you mean kind of like how we sort of decided on, yeah, like the font style and the font style and like the aesthetic and like everything all that good stuff?
- 45:31[SPEAKER_02]: So I Do you know what it's so funny because because of the way that I was in the shyness of me Generally and kind of my overthinking and every aspect of everything always put on myself on the front cover I felt at first I was like, oh, should I do it?
- 45:45[SPEAKER_02]: But then I was like if I'm thinking about maybe not doing it, I think maybe I totally should
- 45:50[SPEAKER_02]: because it's kind of not making me uncomfortable, obviously, being on the front cover, but I was like, no, I have to stand in that, you know?
- 45:56[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's your power, because you're ours, own it.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I kind of was like, oh, it's something that I'm really proud of.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I worked with, yeah, an incredible team getting the visuals together, and also an incredible stylist, Botagore, who I always work with, honestly, is incredible, and really gave me that kind of, I don't know, yeah, license to play.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: really and just kind of really expand and extrovert myself into things that maybe I felt like with for somebody else and not me, you know, but we built this amazing set.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_02]: Daniel Motten was the creative director for Dusk and I think actually created like a sort of Mars-like beach film.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly what it looks like.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yes!
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: And it was all like, in the backdrop of dusk, there's all these kind of trees that look like they've melted a little bit.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_02]: But it was like, this big outfit that was wearing was made by Beecala, this incredible designer.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_02]: And it was like, probably the largest heaviest thing that I think I've ever had made for myself to wear, but it was so fun to play with the material and sort of sink into the backdrop of the amazing scenery that Daniel Martin had created.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_02]: And then font styles.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_02]: The fun styles actually, we want it, I want it to make it quite simplistic, but I actually quite like to the idea of having it, because I know the fun on dusk is actually like, not ever decent, it's reflective, so it has a sheen to it, so you can only read the title if you tip it.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like a holographic.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_00]: It took a part on card.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_02]: So it was like it wouldn't be too obvious.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_02]: So the artwork So you'd still see the backdrop that Daniel had created and then also the the outfit was still first and foremost kind of like the main image But then the title was sort of like tip it to see it and I quite like that in the sense of like I don't know it will be revealed And I suppose when you play the album, it will also be revealed.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah
- 47:43[SPEAKER_02]: So it was kind of like a nice, I don't know, a nice artistic nod to that.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then I also, yeah, I think the back has like a close up of the material of the outfit that I was wearing in the shoot.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's what the back cover is as well.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_02]: And then yeah, the titles I just wanted to have really front and center.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so like quite clean and crisp I think for the first and I've actually got the font of dusk and the title tattooed on my knee Yeah, like just like as an homage to it in that moment my first ever gig that I did at the Roxie as a solo artist my friends from the UK flew in and they were like When do you land and I said oh and like an hour they said great well meet with tattoo tattoo shop We're all gonna get your album title tattoo done and I was like are we?
- 48:26[SPEAKER_02]: They said yeah, we've booked you in so I turned up and they were like there you go
- 48:29[SPEAKER_02]: Sit on down.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, I was like, okay.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: And they got so super.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so my friend has my handwriting.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_02]: I wrote Dorsk and she got that tattooed in my handwriting.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_02]: And then my other friend got the font that we used on the album and I, like, I have as well.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_02]: Got the album title tattooed on our legs.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_02]: Wow.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_00]: That was super special.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, sorry, I hope that.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_02]: No, that's a great answer.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh, it's such a good answer.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_00]: Andy, do we have time?
- 48:53[SPEAKER_01]: You got one minute girl.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna cut you off totally opposite.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_00]: I always feel like I was a UK girlie in a former life.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: I grew up loving all music from the UK.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even know how I found it.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_00]: So for you, growing up who were some of the artists in the UK who were just like, I have to listen to it.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like, yes.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, my gosh, I mean, Spice Girls, of course.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I remember the first time I got my parents got me a CD player and I actually had the tape of the first Spice Girls album.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I think I still have it.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: Of course.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: And that was like my, the witched all Saints as well.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_00]: Of course.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: But I mean, I think like it was an interesting one because my parents brought me up on like Fleetwood Mark and like I think we had like a bit of Led Zeppelin going around Paul Simon, obviously.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: A bit of Led Zeppelin floating around, not always.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_02]: I know I brought myself into like a rain, more afterwards.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: This makes sense to like when you were saying you were into these bands and you've been in all different kinds of genres and you can grow up with such a wide array of music around you, this makes sense.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I love like when I was a kid I was obsessed with a valley as well and like Vanessa May.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I love like jazz, but for the UK, definitely when I was younger and buying my own music, it was like the pop groups of like...
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: The Spice Girls, the Spice Girls, the Spice Girls, the Spice Girls, Sure the Baves!
- 50:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my gosh, yeah, yeah, yeah, like... Oh, that first album, I mean, I went to see the recently actually in the O2.
- 50:14[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, when they did that little comeback last year.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_00]: So good.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_01]: So good this this whole interview your your your your jewelry hidden I love it so much because earlier You're like you can hear my jewelry in the new album because it's me and the studio just from waiting My yeah because I've got this like fun to mom, you know, it just does what it does Will I'm singing?
- 50:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I'd never take the jewelry off.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I do.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a class was too.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's too hard I mean I think it looks really good on so yeah
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: War last segment of this podcast is a doozy.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_01]: You're something to go off your chest because this is your moment to do so.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes you want to scream to the world, I gotta get to soft my chest.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: So today's our time.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: Mike, I want you to go first.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: Is there anything you're gonna get off your chest?
- 50:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, what's wrong?
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have to get off my chest.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_01]: Ooh, go.
- 50:57[SPEAKER_00]: No, I think what I need to get off my chest right now is just not to make it a little deep, but just like everyone like being divisive and against each other and negativity, I feel like we're not saying it.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone just needs to like get along a little bit better.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm really sick of it Yes, I'm I see what's kind of going on in New York and I feel like New York is having such like a marquee year right now Everyone else I need to get it with it Ellie doesn't need to get with it But like New York is having such a moment where everyone is coming together and all these wins It's everything from like the next to like the new mayor to like even just last night Jay-Z's huge homecoming concert
- 51:33[SPEAKER_00]: I saw it looks incredible in New York is just thriving and I'm like, I just kind of want to feel that in every city I'm sick of people not getting along.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just have fun.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: Let's party.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so you said LA need to get with it Amongst other places.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, all right, I miss girl.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's great to go to your chest
- 51:50[SPEAKER_02]: There is, and I may, yes, it's towards myself actually, in a kind of positive way as well, but I need to produce more, I need to get out of my own way.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_02]: I actually this album, I will be honest, I didn't produce anything on it, but I was in the rooms, and I was part of the production process.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_02]: But,
- 52:07[SPEAKER_02]: I need to 100% stop down in myself and being so anxious about everything.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_02]: But I think, yeah, production.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_02]: I just need to do more of it.
- 52:15[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if that's right.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_02]: But I also agree.
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: I think that everybody needs some more lightness in their life.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that music brings people together.
- 52:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that we all need to realise that we're all just trying to live.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_02]: And be happy and joyful.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I think I agree.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you got to lean into that, but you have to do that, produce more because you're great.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: You're great.
- 52:34[SPEAKER_02]: I tried, you know, like, it's one of those things like, I definitely like, I think I overthink things and I stopped myself.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_02]: So the next body work, then I create, I will.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_02]: I'll be doing something.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_00]: Bring the lightness to the people.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'll bring the lightness.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 52:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's what it's got to be, you know.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_02]: I'll bring the light.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm, well the only thing I got to my chest my chest is beaten.

- 53:23[SPEAKER_01]: But also, if someone gives you a compliment, also accept the compliment.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, don't be rude.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: Take the compliment.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: Don't be weird about it.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: Some people can be weird.
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's like it's such a nice gesture and well intended.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_00]: Give compliments, receive compliments.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they thank you.
