- 0:00Speaker 1: And Football and four is powered by the entire The
- 0:01Speaker 1: Birds podcast is brought to you by the Fanatic Sports
- 0:04Speaker 1: Book and Ocean Can Seeno Resort in Atlantic City. We're
- 0:07Speaker 1: back there on Monday. I'll actually not be there. Pete
- 0:10Speaker 1: g will be there. Nick Earnshaw will be filling in
- 0:13Speaker 1: for me as well on Monday show. This is my
- 0:16Speaker 1: last show for a little while. I'll be back on
- 0:19Speaker 1: Monday the twenty fourth, but that means this is my
- 0:22Speaker 1: last chance for football at four. This is my last
- 0:25Speaker 1: chance for Jeff Mosher. I'm taking a little time off
- 0:28Speaker 1: from the show as we are heading to the Babe
- 0:31Speaker 1: Ruth World Series. We're hoping to do well up there,
- 0:35Speaker 1: but I'm still thinking about the Birds. I know when
- 0:37Speaker 1: we go up there, we are looking for a place
- 0:39Speaker 1: to watch the game on Saturday night when the Eagles
- 0:42Speaker 1: play the Ravens most So let's get into some of
- 0:45Speaker 1: the things we're watching for. And I want to start
- 0:48Speaker 1: off with Vic Fangio from yesterday talking about Jonathan Gernard.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I want to get your level of concern for Grenard.
- 0:54Speaker 1: We did you know figure that he would miss time,
- 0:58Speaker 1: but he said he's still a ways way. Probably won't
- 1:00Speaker 1: see him in training camp, he started to worry and
- 1:03Speaker 1: wonder if he will be ready for Washington in week one.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Well more so if yeah, a little bit. I mean,
- 1:10Speaker 2: obviously the peck and the shoulder. If it's that we
- 1:14Speaker 2: don't know which peck that he injured, but if it's
- 1:17Speaker 2: the same peck on the side that he had the
- 1:19Speaker 2: shoulder injury last year, that's not great. Sometimes things can
- 1:23Speaker 2: be connected.
- 1:24Speaker 3: In that way.
- 1:25Speaker 2: You know, look at Nolan Smith junior, right, He's had
- 1:29Speaker 2: the shoulder issues that he's not not major ones, but
- 1:32Speaker 2: then he's torn his triceps right, and he's kind of
- 1:35Speaker 2: had those recurring triceps injuries. So you always worry about
- 1:40Speaker 2: one thing that leads to another when the two muscle
- 1:42Speaker 2: groups are are close or connected.
- 1:45Speaker 3: And yes, as Vic Fangio was saying, he's going to basically.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Not play at all or not practice at all a
- 1:52Speaker 2: training camp, which puts.
- 1:54Speaker 3: In jeopardy what if he'll be able to play in
- 1:57Speaker 3: week one.
- 1:58Speaker 2: And how much he might be able to play week
- 2:00Speaker 2: one if he does make it back to practice before then.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So you know, it kind of looks you it makes
- 2:06Speaker 2: you back to square one as far as this time
- 2:09Speaker 2: last year when they really didn't have that third guy,
- 2:11Speaker 2: and you know they were they were using Josh Ruchi
- 2:14Speaker 2: and they're using Ocelari a little bit.
- 2:16Speaker 3: But it was really hunting Nolan Smith.
- 2:18Speaker 2: And Smith can be sporadic, and Hunt was very good
- 2:22Speaker 2: and he's having a great camp. But you really, this
- 2:24Speaker 2: thing works with your three main edge rushers, and so yeah,
- 2:28Speaker 2: I think there's some reason to be concerned about the
- 2:31Speaker 2: injuries that that Grenard has been dealing with.
- 2:34Speaker 1: For the people who don't even know Jonathan Garnard, they've
- 2:37Speaker 1: never even seen him. They made a trade for him.
- 2:39Speaker 1: They got two third They gave up two third round picks,
- 2:41Speaker 1: one this year one for next year. He is do
- 2:44Speaker 1: you think supposed to be their top edge rusher.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Of course, I mean he's you know, for two straight
- 2:51Speaker 2: before last year, he had twenty four and a half
- 2:54Speaker 2: sacks between twenty and twenty three. In twenty twenty four,
- 2:59Speaker 2: he was a two time Pro Bowl edge He was
- 3:03Speaker 2: you know, when you've talked about some of the better
- 3:04Speaker 2: pass rushers ed rushers.
- 3:06Speaker 3: In the league, his name was up there, you know.
- 3:08Speaker 2: And that's why the Eagles went out and pursued him
- 3:12Speaker 2: when they didn't bring back Jollen Phillips, because they felt
- 3:15Speaker 2: like they needed the sure thing.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Now.
- 3:18Speaker 2: They love the growth and the development of Jaelex Hunt,
- 3:21Speaker 2: but he's still learning and growing into the position.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Right. They like Nolan Smith Junior, a good run defender, a.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Guy who flashes at times in the pass rush, but
- 3:32Speaker 2: they needed the consistent guy that they've always had, right
- 3:35Speaker 2: going back years where there was a trend Cole or
- 3:38Speaker 2: a Hassan Reddick or you know somebody whose name I'm
- 3:41Speaker 2: probably forgetting now, but they've always flourished when they've had
- 3:43Speaker 2: that number one kind of guy.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So Ebadi at Panessa are two guys that are veters
- 3:50Speaker 1: they brought in. They brought two guys in last year,
- 3:52Speaker 1: o Jalai and Ouch. Do these guys have a bigger
- 3:56Speaker 1: impact in your mind than those two guys did?
- 3:58Speaker 2: And that was a big discussion in between Adam and
- 4:01Speaker 2: I on the Inside the Birds podcast today.
- 4:04Speaker 3: That dropped is there are.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Certain things going on in camp that aren't necessarily due
- 4:09Speaker 2: to performance that may or may not impact the roster
- 4:13Speaker 2: construction and certainly the edge group for sure. First of all,
- 4:18Speaker 2: Vic may have to come out of the three man shell.
- 4:21Speaker 2: If Grenard's not really one hundred percent or even ready
- 4:23Speaker 2: to play by week one, it's gonna have to lean
- 4:26Speaker 2: on both Ebikehetty, Yeah, Ebiketty to go with the other two.
- 4:29Speaker 2: And then maybe even a fourth edge rusher if that person,
- 4:33Speaker 2: whether it's Epinessa or somebody else.
- 4:35Speaker 3: I don't know who else would be, but just you know.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Gives them good reps and good snaps and feels like
- 4:41Speaker 2: that person should get on the field, and that might
- 4:43Speaker 2: mean from you know how we always say the fifty
- 4:47Speaker 2: three man roster that at the end of camp is
- 4:49Speaker 2: so overrated because it changes the next day. You know,
- 4:52Speaker 2: there's the initial fifty three and then there's the actual
- 4:55Speaker 2: fifty three for week one, and then the Reegles play
- 4:57Speaker 2: so much roster tango with the practice and elevations that
- 5:01Speaker 2: by week four or five it's a completely different fifty
- 5:03Speaker 2: three there. And so they may keep some players on
- 5:06Speaker 2: the initial fifty three that they're only keeping because they
- 5:10Speaker 2: need to get through a few weeks. We'll have this
- 5:12Speaker 2: discussion a tight end. I'm sure that they have to
- 5:16Speaker 2: get through until certain guys are ready to play.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Interesting there. Jeff Mosher Football for Inside the Birds podcast.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You can download the new Inside of the Birds podcast
- 5:25Speaker 1: on all podcasting platforms and you know we're looking at
- 5:28Speaker 1: the edge spot because Jalx Hunt, Nolan Smith, those guys
- 5:31Speaker 1: are their third years. Now let's say Grenard how to
- 5:34Speaker 1: start the year on the pup list and wasn't ready.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Do you like what they have with Hunt and Smith?
- 5:40Speaker 1: Is that a good enough tandem to get the season
- 5:43Speaker 1: started or do you think they might have to then
- 5:45Speaker 1: think about bringing somebody else in?
- 5:48Speaker 2: No, I think well, first of all, I look at
- 5:50Speaker 2: everything from a four man rush standpoint, not just an
- 5:52Speaker 2: edge rush, right. And obviously, if Jalen Carter is playing
- 5:57Speaker 2: at his level, his best level, and so far in
- 6:00Speaker 2: camp he has been playing at a very high level.
- 6:03Speaker 2: And you have Moro Ajomo there. But with Carter and
- 6:06Speaker 2: a Jomo and Davis, Carter's going to occupy a lot
- 6:08Speaker 2: of double teams. I'm confident in guys like Jealox Hunt
- 6:12Speaker 2: and Nolan Smith Junior to be able to beat man
- 6:15Speaker 2: on man blocking against most offensive tackles. But you still
- 6:21Speaker 2: are in the same position without a guy like Grenard
- 6:24Speaker 2: that you were in last year prior to the Jalen
- 6:26Speaker 2: Phillips arrival. Now, now Jalox Hunt has had a really
- 6:30Speaker 2: nice camp. I you know me, I don't take anything
- 6:34Speaker 2: I see in camp and try to project it to
- 6:36Speaker 2: be bigger than it is.
- 6:37Speaker 3: But I do think it was.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I think he's been a year ahead since he got
- 6:41Speaker 2: into the league in twenty twenty four. He was a
- 6:43Speaker 2: development project third round pick. By the end of the years,
- 6:47Speaker 2: he's playing in the Super Bowl. Last year, he leads
- 6:49Speaker 2: the defense in interceptions in sacks, right, So he's not
- 6:53Speaker 2: a developmental prospect anymore.
- 6:55Speaker 3: He's learning and growing.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So I do expect that Jalox Hunt is going to
- 6:58Speaker 2: be a better version of himself than he even was
- 7:01Speaker 2: last year. But nonetheless, when you don't have John than
- 7:06Speaker 2: if he gets hurt, for example, or if Nolan Smith
- 7:08Speaker 2: gets hurt, then then what do you have, Right, If
- 7:10Speaker 2: Grenard's not playing one hundred percent or playing, then all
- 7:13Speaker 2: of a sudden you're down to Jillix Hunt and what
- 7:15Speaker 2: aj Panessa or Arnold Mcheny.
- 7:17Speaker 3: That's that's not enough, all right?
- 7:19Speaker 1: Yeah, because uh, you know, Epenesy even know that he
- 7:22Speaker 1: could stay healthy, he's got that's another problem with him, right,
- 7:24Speaker 1: I mean he's yeah, right. I mean that's another thing too,
- 7:29Speaker 1: because they do have a lot of depth at tackle.
- 7:32Speaker 1: You mentioned, you know, it's it's more than just the
- 7:35Speaker 1: edge guys, because you have Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Borrow,
- 7:38Speaker 1: o Jomo. I guess Byron Young you throw him in there,
- 7:41Speaker 1: do you like him as a guy that will make
- 7:43Speaker 1: an impact.
- 7:44Speaker 2: I like Byron Young as a guy who's going to
- 7:46Speaker 2: be the fourth defensive tackle play when needed, supply, really good, steady.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Play when he's in there.
- 7:55Speaker 2: I don't look at him some kind of fearsome pass
- 7:57Speaker 2: rusher who's gonna somehow get into the four man rush,
- 8:00Speaker 2: but he's gonna play some snaps on the inside when needed,
- 8:04Speaker 2: and he you'd be most teams would be pretty fortunate
- 8:07Speaker 2: to have a fourth defensive tackle that can play at
- 8:10Speaker 2: Byron Young's level.
- 8:12Speaker 1: All right, yesterday, I know it's meaningless the depth chart,
- 8:16Speaker 1: but they had Cooper de Jene listed as the starter
- 8:18Speaker 1: at two different visions, but the backup Michael Carter was
- 8:21Speaker 1: one of the backups at the one spot, which was
- 8:25Speaker 1: the safety spot, and then at the backup nickel spot.
- 8:30Speaker 1: You saw it was kind of like a tandem of guys.
- 8:32Speaker 1: Michael Carter was also the backup there with Mac McWilliams.
- 8:36Speaker 1: So I don't know, does that say that they don't
- 8:38Speaker 1: feel comfortable yet with the nickel and the safety spot.
- 8:44Speaker 2: No. I think that they're trying to, in their acute way,
- 8:49Speaker 2: give you both bass and nickel, and what it might
- 8:53Speaker 2: look like. You know, the gene we know is going
- 8:55Speaker 2: to be a base defense safety alongside mccouba, and then
- 8:58Speaker 2: when they're in nickel, he's gonna slide to nickel, and
- 9:00Speaker 2: then it's.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Gonna either be Epps.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I think Epps was the name that was also on
- 9:04Speaker 2: the list with with Carter on that depth chart, So
- 9:07Speaker 2: it's gonna be either Epps or Michael Carter, and then
- 9:09Speaker 2: there's gonna be some dime where you're gonna have all
- 9:12Speaker 2: three of those guys on the field.
- 9:13Speaker 3: And that's what you know.
- 9:15Speaker 2: We spoke a while back because I think during the
- 9:18Speaker 2: OTAs a couple of guys on defense during their press
- 9:21Speaker 2: conferences said VIC was getting so comfortable with his personnel
- 9:24Speaker 2: because so many people are back, they're starting to do
- 9:27Speaker 2: different things.
- 9:27Speaker 3: And I think that's one of those things is that.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Vic is prepared to have a base, a nickel, a
- 9:32Speaker 2: dime and where in the past they didn't have enough
- 9:35Speaker 2: depth in the secondary to be able to be confident
- 9:38Speaker 2: throwing a dime out there. Now they are a big nickel,
- 9:41Speaker 2: for example, you know, with three safeties, so they've got
- 9:43Speaker 2: a whole lot of optionality to them.
- 9:46Speaker 3: They're deeper, there's still they still have questions.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I'm not trying to act like these guys are all
- 9:50Speaker 2: proven veterans, but Michael Carter's playing pretty good. It sounds like,
- 9:54Speaker 2: you know, Vick Convince, he's he's gonna play.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Some kind of role.
- 9:57Speaker 2: They we know Vic likes Marcus Epp. We know what
- 10:00Speaker 2: he wants to do using the gene as.
- 10:03Speaker 3: A multiple piece.
- 10:04Speaker 2: And now that they have Greek Wolland, who they they
- 10:06Speaker 2: believe they don't have to take off the field like
- 10:08Speaker 2: they did with the Dori Jackson. They can allow those
- 10:11Speaker 2: interior corners and interior defensive backs to play those roles.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Wolland's gonna be interesting because we're talking about this
- 10:18Speaker 1: in the three o'clock hour, how he could potentially be
- 10:21Speaker 1: like everybody's favorite guy, because it seemed that a Dori
- 10:24Speaker 1: Jackson was everybody's least favorite guy. So it's like, oh, Wollan,
- 10:28Speaker 1: It's like, is he going to be what everybody expects
- 10:31Speaker 1: him to be or hopes that he could be.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll be the favorite guy, and then the season
- 10:36Speaker 2: will start, and then they're gonna play what the commander
- 10:40Speaker 2: the Bears and the Rams week three or week four,
- 10:42Speaker 2: and you know, and as soon as he as soon
- 10:44Speaker 2: as he adds one of those games, everybody's.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Gonna be like, ah, you know, and start complaining. But
- 10:48Speaker 3: I think Greek Woland will be fine, all right.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Wollan obviously upgrade or new on that side. Everything else
- 10:55Speaker 1: on defense, like you said, Fanju has a lot of
- 10:58Speaker 1: the same toys to play with here, so that automatically
- 11:02Speaker 1: should make the defense better. That these guys are now
- 11:04Speaker 1: another year. Saint erbis. The only guy who's not is Grenard.
- 11:07Speaker 1: He's the only one and unfortunately he is hurt. Right now,
- 11:10Speaker 1: let's look at the offense where everything is the same
- 11:13Speaker 1: except for one guy, and that is Manion. Everybody else
- 11:16Speaker 1: is pretty much Now. You have some new wide receivers
- 11:19Speaker 1: obviously with aj Sder, but the offensive line is saying,
- 11:22Speaker 1: the quarterbacks seeing the tight ends the same, the running
- 11:24Speaker 1: backs the same. So Sean Mannion, give me your thoughts
- 11:27Speaker 1: so far on where this offense kind of looks like
- 11:30Speaker 1: it could go into Game number one, because I would
- 11:33Speaker 1: imagine they're not gonna show a whole heck of a lot,
- 11:35Speaker 1: and no one's gonna play well.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, they're not gonna show a whole heck
- 11:40Speaker 2: of a lot in terms of maybe some of the
- 11:42Speaker 2: creative things that Sean Manion might have in mind. But
- 11:45Speaker 2: they're not gonna hide the fact that they've been working
- 11:50Speaker 2: under center and wide zone running. That's just like staples
- 11:53Speaker 2: of the offense now that are gonna be a part,
- 11:55Speaker 2: a big part of the offense.
- 11:56Speaker 3: And that's not necessarily like something that they're not going
- 12:02Speaker 3: to just be like one hundred.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Percent shotgun and inside zone like they were in the past,
- 12:07Speaker 2: just because they're trying to conceal the fact that they're
- 12:10Speaker 2: you know, they're installing this new Shanahan McVeigh style of offense.
- 12:13Speaker 2: So you'll see elements of under center, you'll see elements
- 12:16Speaker 2: of the wide zone.
- 12:17Speaker 3: They need to practice it.
- 12:18Speaker 2: They need to they need to practice it and execute it,
- 12:21Speaker 2: in particular against a team that they haven't been you know,
- 12:24Speaker 2: a new defense, a team that they haven't been on
- 12:26Speaker 2: the field against all the time. So for people who
- 12:29Speaker 2: have wanted to see that, who haven't been able to
- 12:31Speaker 2: come to training camp, like you used to. I think
- 12:34Speaker 2: it'll be pretty interesting against the Ravens. You'll actually get
- 12:36Speaker 2: to see some of these concepts that we've been talking
- 12:39Speaker 2: about on the radio here for.
- 12:40Speaker 1: A while, which is a lot more under center. But
- 12:43Speaker 1: but I mean, you would imagine they're still going to infiltrate,
- 12:46Speaker 1: and they've kind of hinted at this that they will
- 12:48Speaker 1: still infiltrate some of the things that worked under Nick
- 12:51Speaker 1: in all the previous incarnations of this offense.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I mean, first of all, very few coaches, coordinators, played
- 13:00Speaker 2: callers just do one thing right. In fact, like the
- 13:03Speaker 2: Rams are known for being under center a lot, you
- 13:06Speaker 2: know lately with the last few years. Right, they do
- 13:10Speaker 2: run shotgun, though it's not like there are one hundred
- 13:12Speaker 2: percent under center.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Same thing with.
- 13:15Speaker 2: You know, other teams that do it, like the forty
- 13:17Speaker 2: nine Ers. The Packers, to me are a really good
- 13:20Speaker 2: study for what the Eagles are going to try to
- 13:22Speaker 2: look like because the Packers, more.
- 13:24Speaker 3: So than the Rams and the Niners and other Shanahan.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Style teams, they they still go shotgun a decent amount,
- 13:32Speaker 2: almost like maybe fifty I don't know if how the
- 13:33Speaker 2: numbers are, but they'll still gravitate between eleven personnel and
- 13:37Speaker 2: twelve personnel maybe a little bit more than the Rams
- 13:40Speaker 2: do or the Niners, and these.
- 13:42Speaker 3: They will they will run RPOs.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I mean, that's just Matt Laflores has been a little
- 13:48Speaker 2: bit more adaptable than what Shanahan and McVeigh do. And
- 13:52Speaker 2: that's where Manion came from, which is why I'm saying, like,
- 13:54Speaker 2: you know, when you watch practice the Eagles practice right now,
- 13:57Speaker 2: it's not like seventy percent of their snaps are under
- 14:00Speaker 2: it's not like seventy five percent of their runs are
- 14:03Speaker 2: wide zone runs.
- 14:04Speaker 3: They're still doing things that they did in the.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Past that were successful, because why would you not, you know,
- 14:11Speaker 2: like tush push and other things. The other day at
- 14:14Speaker 2: training camp, I saw a play that you've seen a
- 14:17Speaker 2: million times. He goes around where Sekwon Barkley motions out
- 14:20Speaker 2: of the backfield, the linebacker follows him. Now they're in
- 14:24Speaker 2: spread five out, and then Hertz takes a snap and
- 14:27Speaker 2: runs up the middle because there's really only one block
- 14:30Speaker 2: linebacker left the block and then the guard center kicks
- 14:33Speaker 2: out the block him right. And we saw that in
- 14:35Speaker 2: training camp. So those are the kind of things that
- 14:37Speaker 2: you're still going to continue to see.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Uh, Jeff, you mentioned Barkley, he doesn't. It almost seems
- 14:42Speaker 1: like he's a forgotten guy. I mean, one year he's
- 14:45Speaker 1: the guy, in the next year he's I don't even
- 14:48Speaker 1: know what you want to call what he was last year.
- 14:50Speaker 1: So what what kind of role does he have? Do
- 14:53Speaker 1: you see for him this year?
- 14:55Speaker 2: Yeah? You know, I've been struggling with where I'm you know,
- 14:58Speaker 2: I'm getting ready for my fantasy football drafts, my rankings
- 15:02Speaker 2: over at Philly Voice, and me and Evan Macey are
- 15:04Speaker 2: doing a little ADP debates, you know, whether we think
- 15:09Speaker 2: we're ahead of market, behind Mark or at market on
- 15:13Speaker 2: certain guys based on their ADP. And I've struggled a
- 15:15Speaker 2: little bit with Saquan. I do believe he'll have a
- 15:19Speaker 2: better year than last year. I don't know if it'll
- 15:22Speaker 2: look like it what did two years ago. I expect
- 15:25Speaker 2: Tank Bigsby to have a little bit more of a
- 15:26Speaker 2: role than he did in the year's past, but that
- 15:29Speaker 2: shouldn't stop Saquon from having a good year. But I
- 15:32Speaker 2: also am and we have talked about this. You cannot
- 15:37Speaker 2: dismiss the amount of work that this man, this running
- 15:41Speaker 2: back has had the last year's over seven hundred and
- 15:44Speaker 2: fifty touches. I believe between you know, carrying the ball,
- 15:47Speaker 2: catching the ball, playoffs in regular season, and he ain't
- 15:50Speaker 2: a spring chicken. So I definitely think Saquon can bounce
- 15:55Speaker 2: back from last year. I definitely in camp have seen
- 15:58Speaker 2: that he still has explosive moves. I do think elements
- 16:02Speaker 2: of the new offense will help him. But the guy's
- 16:04Speaker 2: got a lot of toll. You go look at running
- 16:07Speaker 2: backs who have carried or touched the ball as much
- 16:09Speaker 2: as he has over the last two years, and you
- 16:11Speaker 2: start to see sharp decline.
- 16:14Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, obviously Bigsby the backup running back.
- 16:18Speaker 1: A lot of times people are like, why not more him?
- 16:21Speaker 1: You started to hear that last year, and I wonder
- 16:23Speaker 1: if this offense has a bigger role for him.
- 16:27Speaker 2: I wonder too, I imagine it will. I think it should.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Otherwise it's a waste of talent. I mean, you give
- 16:33Speaker 2: up two draft picks. I know they weren't like third
- 16:36Speaker 2: and fourth round picks, but you did give up two
- 16:38Speaker 2: draft picks.
- 16:39Speaker 3: For the guy.
- 16:40Speaker 2: And it's not like he's, you know, just because he can.
- 16:43Speaker 2: It wasn't just because he can also return kicks. I
- 16:45Speaker 2: mean he's a good running back. His numbers, Like.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Every time the Eagles at a guy who has returned
- 16:51Speaker 1: a kicker a punt in their life, that's like the
- 16:53Speaker 1: new guy. It hasn't they haven't used that guy in
- 16:56Speaker 1: that role in forever.
- 16:58Speaker 2: You know, we don't make fun of the Eagles enough
- 17:00Speaker 2: because it's it's fun to do. But I'm sure fans
- 17:03Speaker 2: don't want to beat him up too much. But we
- 17:05Speaker 2: don't make fun of them enough for that whole Avery
- 17:07Speaker 2: Williams thing from last year. Like if you remember the
- 17:10Speaker 2: first Nick Sirianni press conference after the free agent period,
- 17:15Speaker 2: that's the first guy he mentioned.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Oh, Avery Williams. This guy has been a running.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Back, a cornerback, a punt returner, a specialist. He's a
- 17:23Speaker 2: gadget weapon. The guy doesn't even make the freaking team.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Who was the Ohio State running back? They got a
- 17:31Speaker 1: little love and then never made it.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Trey Shermon, listen, man, we're both old enough to remember
- 17:39Speaker 2: when Braxton Miller came to the Eagles.
- 17:41Speaker 3: I think there are even be what the Chip Kelly
- 17:42Speaker 3: are speaking of it.
- 17:44Speaker 1: By the way, speaking of which, who's returning kicks and
- 17:46Speaker 1: put on this team?
- 17:49Speaker 2: Uh? You still well, you have Shipley and you have
- 17:52Speaker 2: you have Shipley and who my friend Bigsby there as
- 17:55Speaker 2: potential kick returners.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Punt returners should be interesting.
- 17:59Speaker 2: I mean, Marquise Brown can do it, Cooper to Jan
- 18:02Speaker 2: can do it, but I think Vick would app I
- 18:04Speaker 2: think Vick would probably strangle Nick Sirianni if he put
- 18:07Speaker 2: him in there. We have to see who makes the
- 18:11Speaker 2: team because we know, I know he hasn't done a
- 18:15Speaker 2: whole lot of it, but I believe we've seen Elijah
- 18:19Speaker 2: Moore return a few punts, so I don't know how
- 18:22Speaker 2: they feel about it, but yeah, it's Britain Covey's been hurt.
- 18:25Speaker 2: You can certainly have Britain Covey on the practice squad
- 18:28Speaker 2: and elevate him for the first few weeks and.
- 18:30Speaker 3: You know, as you look for somebody else to return punts.
- 18:33Speaker 2: I would venture to say, mkay lemon, but he actually
- 18:36Speaker 2: has to get out on the field first before he
- 18:38Speaker 2: can return kick some punts.
- 18:40Speaker 3: So it's a fair question.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Okay, Well that's something to watch Saturday night to see
- 18:45Speaker 1: if they start to put some breadcrumbs out there for
- 18:48Speaker 1: that for special teams stuff. And obviously that's a key
- 18:52Speaker 1: on who makes the team at the back end, right.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I mean, if you've got a receiver who doesn't do
- 18:56Speaker 1: any of that stuff for a guy who does do
- 18:58Speaker 1: some of that stuff, that plays a factor and very
- 19:01Speaker 1: interesting to see how the tight end thing. You kind
- 19:03Speaker 1: of hinted at that earlier tight end e J. Stowers,
- 19:07Speaker 1: is he going to have a role on this team.
- 19:09Speaker 1: We talked a little bit about that on Monday show.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Grant Calcina was just finally be his last season here
- 19:16Speaker 1: in Philadelphia. It all starts on Saturday night in Baltimore
- 19:20Speaker 1: against the Ravens where the Birds preseason game number one.
- 19:25Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to some real football back and it's
- 19:27Speaker 1: like that first snap, that first drive, and then you're like, Okay,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I'm ready for the real thing.
- 19:31Speaker 2: That's right, that's right, it's around the corner. But hey,
- 19:34Speaker 2: you got bigger fish to fry. Good luck with your babe,
- 19:37Speaker 2: Ruth baseball team. We wish you the best from inside
- 19:41Speaker 2: the Birds and when you get back, maybe if you
- 19:45Speaker 2: if you got nothing going on like the Phillies, I
- 19:47Speaker 2: feel like they could.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Use a little bit new blood again at manager.
- 19:51Speaker 2: And you know, your all your success mic that you've
- 19:53Speaker 2: had throughout the years, eh, might want to throw your
- 19:56Speaker 2: hat in the ring.
- 19:57Speaker 1: This team looks tired.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Man.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I don't know if I could give him a spot,
- 20:00Speaker 1: but who this is a rough watch right now. Seven
- 20:03Speaker 1: to one, uh, six to one in the seventh.
- 20:05Speaker 3: I should say they've been a rough watch since coming
- 20:07Speaker 3: out of the All Star.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Yeah all right, brother, Well, we'll catch up with you
- 20:12Speaker 1: when we get back.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Thank you, have a great one man. Take care
