Transcript
- 0:36None. What's up everybody?
- 0:56Late night TV here with a little unexpected live stream.
- 1:00I hope everybody's good out there.
- 1:02It is almost the end of the week.
- 1:04It is late Wednesday night, almost Thursday here in
- 1:07California. I'm sure everyone else in the
- 1:09world, it is overnight or early in the morning.
- 1:12So thanks for being here. Anybody who's going to tune in,
- 1:14watch. Much appreciated if you don't
- 1:16know get acquainted ghostcallman.com my website that
- 1:20I Co owned is a 24/7 365. We never take a day off rocket
- 1:25metal news resource interviews with bands on our YouTube
- 1:28podcast metal festivals and concerts covered around the
- 1:31world and news every day so I'm going to pop open a little
- 1:35seltzer. There's a pretty good pop there
- 1:40and jam on the thing we are going to talk about.
- 1:46We've been heavily covering this back to the beginning.
- 1:50Oh, the century maybe. And I wanted to take some time
- 1:55to talk about something we got asked a lot of questions about
- 1:58is who we thought got kicked off.
- 1:59And I think we now know who was kicked off the show by Sharon
- 2:03Osbourne. We're going to talk all about
- 2:04that. This is not to necessarily
- 2:08besmirch anybody. Look, I love watching this
- 2:11thing. I got choked up seeing Ozzy get
- 2:13choked up. We are have seen things never
- 2:16imagined in rock and metal history.
- 2:20Hey, somebody's here the electric compound.
- 2:22Holy shit. Why are you up so late, mother?
- 2:25Sorry, I'm going on kind of late.
- 2:28This kind of came to me over my leftover Taco Tuesday dinner on
- 2:33Wednesday night. Thank you very much.
- 2:35I've been wrapping this shirt. I I actually literally came from
- 2:39I did the podcast earlier tonight that I recorded from my
- 2:42other podcast relation musical podcast.
- 2:44Dennis is here and Dillinger is here.
- 2:46What up, What up? I will kill the ghost
- 2:48cultband.com banner and put the comments in a little bit here.
- 2:54Still can't get the Instagram to work, but thanks for showing up
- 2:58even if you can't stay. Hunter is also here.
- 3:01So yeah, man. I went from doing my Wednesday
- 3:03night podcast recording. That'll go live on Friday.
- 3:06Tomorrow is the weekly ritual. I will go usually early in the
- 3:10afternoon. Eddie Live is here.
- 3:12What up, What up? Thanks for watching.
- 3:15We've been heavily covering this back to the beginning concert.
- 3:19I did a preview of what I forecasted the show to be.
- 3:21I was mostly right, except that I didn't have.
- 3:25I felt like maybe everybody that was a guest singer would show up
- 3:29and sing with Ozzie and Black Sabbath.
- 3:30That did not happen. But otherwise, I thought it was,
- 3:33you know, not completely without hitches, but all things
- 3:36considering raising $200 million for charity, 5 million people
- 3:42around the world streaming this, and probably more than that
- 3:44sharing it with their friends. Larry, Cindy bro is here.
- 3:49And generally speaking, I think it was a marvelous, wonderful,
- 3:52amazing thing that happened for Rocky Metal.
- 3:54However, it is not without controversy, and here's why.
- 3:59I think it's very clear to see that there were some shenanigans
- 4:05planning an event like this. If you're watching on Twitch,
- 4:07thank you. For those watching on YouTube,
- 4:09thank you. Feel free to like and subscribe.
- 4:11We follow back if you've got like a public profile or a
- 4:14public account. Some people are just lurkers,
- 4:16you know what I'm saying. But it's clear that some
- 4:19shenanigans happened behind the scenes.
- 4:20Sharon is a master. Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy's wife and
- 4:24manager for the, you know, the entirety of his solo career, 45
- 4:28years. You know, she's a shrewd
- 4:30customer. She learned from the best her
- 4:31dad. It was like a gangster who, it's
- 4:34interestingly like Ozzy and Sabbath always decried how, you
- 4:39know, Don Arden and Sharon's dad robbed them of all their money
- 4:43and never paid them and this that other thing.
- 4:45And then Ozzy, you know, went on with Sharon, who had a
- 4:50completely different man. I'm going to tell you, we went
- 4:54over this in depth and we already did a video the other
- 4:57night, a live round table review, which is getting a lot
- 5:00of traction. And we talked about all this,
- 5:02whose guest appearances who was not good.
- 5:04I think Travis Barker, it's not so much that he made no sense.
- 5:07He wasn't he didn't prepare. He clearly didn't play a good
- 5:12solo. And even Chad Smith, who was
- 5:14right next to him, just was like, OK, guy like made a face
- 5:18at him on international global live stream.
- 5:20What a putz. The second dumbest person of the
- 5:24day next to Sid proposing to Kelly on her dad's big day.
- 5:28What a fucking bonehead. But also, I think Billy Corgan
- 5:33was straight up terrible. He was decent for breaking the
- 5:36law. Nice to get a Jewish priest
- 5:38cover. We're going to talk about Jewish
- 5:39priest in a minute. But fucking just Billy Corgan,
- 5:46terribly miscast vocally to do Sabbath songs.
- 5:48This guy's one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
- 5:50Why is he not playing a guitar solo and a guitar?
- 5:54Like, why is he not have a guitar on who's you know, again,
- 5:57Tom Morello, some of the questionable moves, but
- 6:00generally overall was wonderful and amazing.
- 6:02But we're going to talk about who was kicked off and who I
- 6:03think we can definitively say who was kicked off now.
- 6:07I think we can, you know, Lombardo should have been
- 6:09invited, but again, maybe awkward with Slater, you know,
- 6:12having Slater is more important than just Dave Lombardo.
- 6:15And those offences are not ever getting mended.
- 6:17We talked often about that and I have an interview on YouTube and
- 6:21podcasts with Dave and Paula Lombardo and I hope to talk to
- 6:26him again. He has a lot of new music coming
- 6:28along the way. But anywho, before we get into
- 6:30that, if you're feeling generous, feel free to drop us a
- 6:34tip. Normally I hustle for tips on
- 6:36the weekly live stream and this is our third of the week in
- 6:40terms of streams. But just again, a reminder, this
- 6:43is what we take for tips and here's how to pay us just in
- 6:47case you're feeling frisky. You know, I feel like we give a
- 6:51lot of value out to the world and do a lot of stuff for
- 6:54underground bands and I don't ask for much.
- 6:57Morgan has passed by. What Up, pal?
- 6:59Morgan Evans, a ghost cultist, also from the Metal Riot blog,
- 7:03also a a phenomenal activist and musician themselves.
- 7:08We're just talking about who was kicked off the Aussie show.
- 7:10It's been a question that has been, you know, get it gotten to
- 7:13me in DMS. It came up in our show who we
- 7:16thought wasn't invited, who was disinvited before we ever heard
- 7:20who was invited. Curious omissions, like very
- 7:23drastic, blatant omissions from this thing that just boggled the
- 7:27fucking mind. Again, this is late night and I
- 7:31appreciate people joining because, you know, maybe, just
- 7:34maybe it wasn't going to be, you know, for everybody else.
- 7:37So I made a little deck here. And just in case you you
- 7:41dilloned your comments here, their bands in the UK bound to
- 7:44the older Sambathis Cathedral. I just it was a metal elite
- 7:49event and I just feel like the Stoner doom genre, which
- 7:52obviously owes everything to Sam and everything and everything to
- 7:57Tony. Those bands are just too small.
- 8:00I think to not have a High On Fire, to not have a sleep, to
- 8:04not have cathedral, to not have Electric Wizard.
- 8:07Orange Goblin is quitting at the end of the year.
- 8:09Like they would have made perfect sense to open things up
- 8:12beside Mastodon and Rival Sons. But I just think like Sharon is
- 8:17a person like most current moguls in social media and music
- 8:23industry that they base everything on streaming.
- 8:25If you look at the lineup, how Gojira's humongous last year
- 8:29because of the Olympics had them going ahead of Alice In Chains.
- 8:32There's no Earth where where Gojira is more important than
- 8:36Alice In Chains. As much as I fucking love Gojira
- 8:39and I'm so proud of them and they kicked so much ass, but I
- 8:43just think like, yeah, it's a little weird to just not have
- 8:47any. I will tell you that if you
- 8:49watch the whole live stream, they did have little vignettes
- 8:52on underground Birmingham bands and almost all of them were punk
- 8:56or Stoner doom or psychedelic rock.
- 8:59So all these things are all disabled, a little bit of punk,
- 9:02you know, certain things that punk borrowed.
- 9:05There was a lot of interesting diversity there among those
- 9:07bands. So I think it was very a very
- 9:09nice slice of things. So I made this graphic and I'll
- 9:13take myself off the screen for a second.
- 9:15And again, thanks for everybody watching on TikTok and thanks
- 9:18for everybody on YouTube. There seemed to be quite a bunch
- 9:20of people here for late night considering I didn't plan this
- 9:23well, but let's just take a look at this thing for a second.
- 9:26So I made this graphic and who is on the graphic just to call
- 9:29it out. Obviously, Rob Alfred, we're
- 9:31going to talk about that. Matt Heaphy of Trivium in a
- 9:34weird gold jacket. Vince Neil, say no more, and
- 9:41Slipknot all on the cover. But there was a whole bunch of
- 9:43people I could have considered, you know, and I think it's super
- 9:49interesting. So you know, this, we, this is
- 9:52our review. If you're like to watch our
- 9:54recap, I invited experts from the metal world to come join me.
- 10:00Something like 100 combined years or 150 combined years of
- 10:04music experience on this podcast that we did the other day.
- 10:06This live stream, which you can now watch or listen to on our
- 10:09podcasts, where we review the entire show for two hours.
- 10:14And I brought a musician in to comment on some of the musical
- 10:17things and some very interesting top things brought up about
- 10:20maybe Ozzy singing with backing tapes and all kinds of things.
- 10:24But, and you know, again, I know I'm a hater, but Sammy Hagar
- 10:29also was fucking straight up terrible.
- 10:31How you going to not learn the song?
- 10:32How you going to come sing at this tribute concert and not
- 10:36even really learn the song? Well, you're a Dick.
- 10:39I never liked this guy. I am straight Van Halen all the
- 10:42time. David Lee Roth.
- 10:43Only not Ben Hagar. I'm not saying he Can't Sing.
- 10:45I'm not saying he's not great. I'm not saying he didn't write a
- 10:48bunch of banger songs. I'm not saying Ben Hagar doesn't
- 10:50have some good ones. But what a schmuck.
- 10:52Anyway, so we had that. I had done a preview.
- 10:56Here's our tip menu again. We already kind of went over
- 10:58that. There's our if you want to
- 11:00freeze. There's our Cash App if you want
- 11:05to tip Chef Tunas here. Giles is here.
- 11:10Poor Twisted DC is here. Thanks for passing by.
- 11:16You know, this thing gave us some amazing stuff.
- 11:18Well, you know, Hatfield sitting with Ozzy, was he drunk?
- 11:22I mean, it's entirely upon his whole personality is fucking
- 11:26tequila, right? Like, I know a lot of people are
- 11:28high, but like, you know, I don't think he was drunk.
- 11:31I think he was unprepared. He was talking about he like
- 11:33leaked that he was doing flying high again months ago and he
- 11:37showed up not prepared. It's the same thing with Barker.
- 11:39I don't have a problem that Travis Barker is there.
- 11:41He's friends with Kelly. He's a Uber producer.
- 11:44He brings in the youth. I get all of you, even though
- 11:46he's like 50, he brings in the youth quotient with Blink.
- 11:49But like guy was not prepared. How are you going to show up and
- 11:53just try to fake your way through something because you
- 11:55know how good you are? Whack, whack.
- 11:57Disappointing, disappointing. But we got these like special
- 12:01moments that we may never see again.
- 12:03Had field with Ozzy, you know, Ozzy gave Metallica their first
- 12:06big break in their first arena tour.
- 12:08Was opening for Ozzy on the Ultimate Centaur and Metallica
- 12:14was on Master of Puppets. It was one of Cliff's last
- 12:16tours. You know, this amazing coverage
- 12:18in the British media and the worldwide global media to get
- 12:21the consciousness of metal in the global media yet again for
- 12:24the first time in a long time. I think it was pretty fucking
- 12:27amazing. What did these two talk about,
- 12:31Axel and James Henfield, like hey guy, I haven't seen you in
- 12:3432 years since you left Montreal after I got burned and went
- 12:39home, went to the hospital in an ambulance and you didn't come
- 12:42out on stage and cause a racket. Dude, Jake was great.
- 12:46I was kind of sad that they gave him an out of tune guitar.
- 12:49And let's be honest, Sharon doesn't want to acknowledge
- 12:51anybody that is not Ozzy and Ozzy alone.
- 12:55So I think Jake was a mercy, you know, thing because of the
- 12:59sympathy for him getting shot last year and everybody else has
- 13:07been whitewashed out of history. I don't know why Blasco wasn't
- 13:10invited on base. And granted, it's great to have
- 13:12Inez there. He just feels right.
- 13:14But you know, Mandy Castillo has passed on no acknowledgement of
- 13:18Dio, no acknowledgement of Tony Martin, despite this best
- 13:21selling box set that came out last year.
- 13:23Ian Gillan is very much alive and could have came out and sang
- 13:26Zero Hero with a superstar band, repeated songs when there's
- 13:31plenty of other songs that could have got played.
- 13:34Lord of This World is my favorite Black Sabbath song.
- 13:39Could have seen somebody do that, you know?
- 13:41But there's just in terms of numbers, there's just not enough
- 13:43big bands. And we'll talk about that in a
- 13:45second. But look at all these amazing
- 13:46things that happened, this incredible lineup, all things
- 13:49considering. I thought the live stream was
- 13:51very enjoyable. No Vinny Appa say well again, no
- 13:54Dio, no Dio, Dio whitewashed out of the band entirely, even by
- 13:58Tony, you know, just not even a mention, not a video.
- 14:03Like one of those All Star groups could have just played
- 14:05Dio stuff and everybody would have been satisfied.
- 14:08Like, it's very shameful. It's very shameful.
- 14:10But again, that's shit. I really attribute this all to
- 14:12Sharon, to be honest. And even Anthrax.
- 14:15I was pretty convinced if anybody was going to represent
- 14:18for Dio it would have been Anthrax because they are well
- 14:20known for covering Heaven and Hell Live and obviously Joey
- 14:26worships Dio. Dio is his hero.
- 14:29But anyway, so you know, we got this amazing thing, but like
- 14:35always, like, look at Ozzy's happiness, man.
- 14:38Like, you know what the I I want that to be my lasting memory of
- 14:41him or the last time I saw him and he was pretty good, you
- 14:45know, But there's this shadow over this whole thing that is
- 14:49like Sharon, Oh, this is a thing.
- 14:50Like, you know, the broadcast cut off while the lights were
- 14:53still down on Ozzy and those guys came back out and gave him
- 14:56a cake and took a proper bow. And the live stream just went to
- 14:59black. Fucking stupid.
- 15:03Maybe it was a surprise and nobody knew except the band or
- 15:06Sharon, but like, you got to tell somebody not to cut away.
- 15:10But anyway, let's get to it. Here is the rub, right?
- 15:17I mean, and this is another one. Like Tom Morello and Adam Jones
- 15:21grew up in a little town outside of Chicago in the 80s and here
- 15:24they are together in the world's biggest stage and the biggest
- 15:27metal event of all time. Ronnie would have showed up to
- 15:32this event if he was still, but 100% he would have volunteered
- 15:35to go and pay tribute to Ozzy. He I mean, like in I know he was
- 15:38a very prideful guy. If you read the Ronnie book,
- 15:41it's definitely his ego submarine him several times in
- 15:46his career. But like, yeah, he was a very
- 15:48loving and and, you know, respectful guy overall.
- 15:51I know he didn't want to go on before Sabbath before Ozzie when
- 15:55he had to. You know that story box run fast
- 15:58this year. Jeff Wallace Rio is back.
- 16:00We've seen you before here, friend.
- 16:04But anyway, so really, really, really, let's get into it now.
- 16:07So Sharon, who looks like a fucking extra reject from nip
- 16:10tuck here. She looks horrible, but OK, you
- 16:15know, it's kind of like that I the beholder episode from
- 16:20twilight zone. So she looks like to me.
- 16:22I may make that joke again tomorrow.
- 16:23Dillinger Compton, I can't not see this.
- 16:27My girlfriend sent me this from the last podcast on the left
- 16:30here. Never seen in the same room
- 16:32Sharon Osbourne and Lady Elaine Fairchild from Mr. Rogers
- 16:36neighborhood. Oh my God, right in the
- 16:38childhood, right in the fucking childhood.
- 16:40But like, you know, Sharon is, you know, I'm thrilled that she
- 16:44made Ozzy a household name and made him rich beyond belief,
- 16:46considering he made no money because of her dad.
- 16:49And he really grew up in complete abject fucking poverty.
- 16:52So even when he had thought he had some money in the 80s, he
- 16:55was living on credit and loans and borrowed shit.
- 16:59And then his solo career took off and that's what made him
- 17:01wealthy. I think there was a point where
- 17:03Ozzy said, I want to thank you all for supporting us because
- 17:10thanks for all supporting us because we live the lifestyle we
- 17:14have. Well, I hate to tell you, Ozzie,
- 17:15most of the band does not have the same lifestyle Ozzie and
- 17:19Sharon have. They have like Mill, you know,
- 17:21hundreds of millions, hundreds of millions of dollars compared
- 17:24to the rest of Sabbath. And that's including Naomi,
- 17:26who's very well off. And I'm sure Geezer and Bill are
- 17:29not poor at this point after the late run of Sabbath in heaven
- 17:32and hell, Bill's career and Geezer's career and Tommy's
- 17:36endorsements. But you know, she's been brutal
- 17:41to deal with for the music business and also as a
- 17:43celebrity, a terrible celebrity, but OK, Who got kicked out?
- 17:48I love this MO throwing out this guy from The Simpsons.
- 17:54You know, it was a rumor about Sandbar.
- 17:58It's coming up. It's coming up.
- 18:00It's not only true, it was supposed to happen.
- 18:02So we'll talk about it. So right off the bat, who was
- 18:05kicked out? I think it's Mötley Crüe.
- 18:07And I know that Nikki went on and was like thank you to Ozzy
- 18:10for giving us Ozzy and Sharon gave us our first break, Shout
- 18:13at the Devil tour, blah blah blah, snorted the ants.
- 18:17But even just recently there was like fucking drama between
- 18:21Sharon and crew. You know, the Mötley Crüe the
- 18:25Dirt promo material didn't have pictures of the cast who I
- 18:30thought did a great job, including MGK is actually should
- 18:33really pursue acting because he can't rap and he's marginal as a
- 18:37punk artist, even with Travis writing his stuff.
- 18:40And you know, she's like, why are you using the actor that
- 18:43looks like Ozzy in the promo material to promote the Dirt
- 18:47when Ozzy is a small part of the story or the film or the book?
- 18:52So I think it was crew. Now, I do know that Vince shown
- 18:55here. What, Vince No consonants, Neil,
- 19:01kick start my heart. For real.
- 19:04You know, I suffer from diabetes and I'm obese, so I'm not
- 19:07picking on an older guy getting old and not being able to be
- 19:10talented as he used to be or ever was.
- 19:11I don't think this was ever that good to begin with.
- 19:14He really should stop touring and stop performing live.
- 19:17You know that they canceled their appearance and a few shows
- 19:23and festivals that they were supposed to do this spring
- 19:26because Vince needed a procedure, hopefully some
- 19:29procedure on his voice. You think it was Danzig?
- 19:32Danzig came up in the other thing.
- 19:33I don't have Danzig on here and I'll tell you, I don't think
- 19:35Danzig really hates travelling. You have to ask why misfits
- 19:39haven't brought that reunion to Europe yet.
- 19:41As much as lucrative as it would be to do us just one go round of
- 19:45all the summer festivals, June to September, how much money
- 19:48Danzig would stand to make? Millions and millions of
- 19:51dollars. And he just hasn't done it
- 19:52because he hates travel and he hates Tori.
- 19:55He doesn't. He loves to perform.
- 19:56He says he doesn't like everything else that comes with
- 19:58it. So I don't have Ozzie in this.
- 20:01I don't want Danzig in here but like I know Danzig is a huge
- 20:04Sabbath on Aussie fan and he's done very good Sabbath covers
- 20:07before. We know about Wolfgang Van
- 20:11Halen, we know about Mammoth and we know Wolfgang.
- 20:15He's dropped the WBH now said that the Creed tour began the
- 20:19next day. Technically, it did not begin
- 20:21until today, but Wolfie said he just didn't want to have to go
- 20:26and do this thing. And then, you know, to the Creed
- 20:30tour is very important and they're releasing a new album
- 20:32soon. And he says that he took himself
- 20:34out of it. I don't think he was kicked out.
- 20:37I really don't. I think he legitimately stepped
- 20:40back from trying to do it. And then again, you know, it's
- 20:42always the pressure to be put on the stage to have to, you know,
- 20:46listen, the guy is brilliantly talented.
- 20:48Doesn't matter what he does, he's always going to get
- 20:51compared to his dad. That's why his music doesn't
- 20:53sound like Van Halen. That's why he's forging his own
- 20:56path to do music that doesn't sound.
- 20:58You know, there's always like a little Van Halen in him because
- 21:01he's a Van Halen. And he learned from his dad how
- 21:04to shred and write and jam and be in a band.
- 21:08He was the musical director of, you know, the whole 2010's Van
- 21:14Halen tours with him on bass. And but he's just staunchly, you
- 21:21know, and it's always the pressure.
- 21:22He went to the Taylor Hawkins thing and he killed it.
- 21:24But like, you know, what kind of pressure he's on to to just be
- 21:29his dad. And if he fucks up, everybody's
- 21:31going to talk. Here's Wolfgang Van Halen
- 21:33fucking up eruption. He's never fucked up eruption.
- 21:35He's done eruption on the base on his Instagram, by the way,
- 21:38which is also like no for no insane with the harmonics and
- 21:45the tapping and everything. But it's tough.
- 21:47It's probably tough being in. So Judas Priest, You know that
- 21:51the day before this thing Judas Priest released, or two days
- 21:55before this, they released their own cover of War Pigs recorded
- 21:58in the studio. It's in their intro music every
- 22:00night they've been playing it live.
- 22:03Yeah, Maiden's coming up, bro. They were.
- 22:07We'll talk about them in a second.
- 22:08I agree. Maiden seemed like a no brainer.
- 22:12So Priest, you know, I don't know if fans know this.
- 22:15Most tours and especially festivals are booked over a year
- 22:18in advance. So especially when you see these
- 22:20tours getting cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances or
- 22:23whatever, we didn't get our pieces.
- 22:25Tours are booked a year ahead. Festivals are booked sometimes
- 22:28two years ahead. So a year and a half ago, over a
- 22:31year and a half ago, Judas Priest was approached to
- 22:34Headliner Festival where Scorpions was playing their 60th
- 22:38anniversary concert as a band in their hometown of Berlin.
- 22:42And they said, hey, Rob and Priest, would you come and be
- 22:45the support act right before Scorpions and maybe come out and
- 22:48do some songs with them? So they knew they couldn't get
- 22:51out of this thing. And it's probably like a Germany
- 22:54exclusive for all of Europe for for Priests on the tour.
- 22:59So then Sharon comes along a year ago after they already
- 23:04committed to this other thing and says, I know you were
- 23:06committed to this thing. You already announced it, but
- 23:08could you cancel that and come do our thing?
- 23:10And he they said, no, you know, there's there's penalties.
- 23:15You don't want to break relationships.
- 23:17So they recorded that song. They've recorded a video message
- 23:20during the stream. Ozzy, we love you.
- 23:22You know, we're from Birmingham. We love you.
- 23:24We're sorry we can't be there. Please, you know, I hope you
- 23:28enjoy our cover. We was in tribute to you guys
- 23:30and thank you. But like, you know, and then I
- 23:32think they were like, well, since we can't have priests, we
- 23:34can add KK and have KK do what we wanted priests to do, which
- 23:37was a set. And you know, where would priest
- 23:40be in that line up anyway? You wouldn't put them ahead of
- 23:42Metallica. I certainly wouldn't, you know,
- 23:44don't think they could go ahead of Slayer.
- 23:46Maybe a head of tool and before Slayer.
- 23:48I don't know, I don't know. And here's Maiden Dillinger
- 23:54compound. You know, the the rift with
- 23:57Maiden still exists with Sharon and Steve and Bruce.
- 24:02I was at the show Asfest 2005 where they egged Iron Maiden.
- 24:07Now in fairness, I was aghast that Bruce was out here talking
- 24:10shit on the Osbournes. Me and my friends were like what
- 24:13the fuck is happening? He is dogging Ozzy and Sharon
- 24:17from the stage during their set. Now I'm going to tell you, Iron
- 24:21Maiden came out with a legitimately Iron Maiden show at
- 24:25a traveling festival. They're set and they're fucking.
- 24:29I mean, at one point Bruce, Bruce was like jumping off the
- 24:32back top stage over the drum riser like 10 feet in the air.
- 24:37They just looked incredible. They sounded incredible.
- 24:40My friend, some of my friends who were not made in fans
- 24:43strangely were like, this is insane.
- 24:45I never knew this band was this good.
- 24:47I was like, look how good they are.
- 24:48And then Black Sabbath came out and to be honest, old ass Black
- 24:51Sabbath with just a red curtain and some fire standing perfectly
- 24:56still look weak next to next to maiden.
- 25:00But maiden is a little younger than those guys a bit younger
- 25:03actually, like 10 years younger than some cases or more.
- 25:05And you know, like they had a lot more pep in their step.
- 25:09But you know, Sharon, the infamous egging Sharon, Zach and
- 25:13other people egged Maiden cut the power on them.
- 25:16Fuck with them. I I know it was beef.
- 25:19It has remained beef. You know maiden has had beef
- 25:22with Metallica. I assume there's a lot of love
- 25:24there also, but you know, Maiden has called out Metallica many
- 25:28times in the press saying that made this just a factually
- 25:32better band. And as much as I love Iron
- 25:35Maiden to the depth as you can see the Iron Maiden flag behind
- 25:37me on the wall, and I hung up a few more of my flags behind me.
- 25:42Ramones is prominently seen over my head there.
- 25:46You know, I'm still going to take Metallica over Maiden in
- 25:48most cases, even the mistakes that Metallica's made.
- 25:52But yeah, Maiden should have been there.
- 25:53And Maiden would have been absolutely before Slay, after
- 25:57Slayer and before Metallica, right?
- 25:59Like, there's no way Maiden is going on in front of Metallica
- 26:03before Black Sabbath. Although the home field
- 26:05advantage of England is a thing. And now I get into some other
- 26:10people. Jonathan Davis was announced.
- 26:12He was on the first poster, Jonathan Davis of Corn to be a
- 26:15guest singer. Corn has opened for Ozzy.
- 26:20You know, they're, you know, Korn and huge reverent fans of
- 26:26metal. They love Metallica, they love
- 26:28Ozzy, they love Black Zim, they love classic rock bands.
- 26:32And then Jonathan gave a video message where he was like,
- 26:35sorry, I can't be with you today, but thank you so much for
- 26:38everything. Gave Korn one of our first big
- 26:40breaks. This that the other thing.
- 26:41But very strange that Korn wasn't there or Jonathan Davis
- 26:45wasn't there. I think along the same lines, I
- 26:50know the System of a Down has a huge summer on tap with these
- 26:55handful of stadium shows, and they just did South America to
- 26:57these unbelievable crowds. And Surge tanky and lives in
- 27:02Australia now and the rest of the band is in California in LA.
- 27:06So maybe that's logistically not a thing like they need.
- 27:09Surge needs time off in between these things that he doesn't
- 27:12necessarily love doing. Also, similar to Danzig, Surge
- 27:16doesn't want to be in stages forever.
- 27:18But the money is just too much to turn down.
- 27:22And then so here's Soundgarden. Here's a picture of Soundgarden.
- 27:25Obviously, Chris Cornell is alive, not alive anymore.
- 27:29Sharon Osbourne sat in an interview in June that they
- 27:34added Soundgarden. The members of Soundgarden are
- 27:36going to show up and play a set. She said it on one of these
- 27:41British talk shows, maybe Piers Morgan, I don't remember.
- 27:50And I think it's very interesting that Soundgarden has
- 27:52squashed their beef with Cornell's second wife and that
- 27:56Vicky and that hopefully the final Soundgarden album will get
- 28:02completed and see the light of day the way Chris wanted.
- 28:06There's also supposed to be a full Chris Cornell solo album,
- 28:09plus of unreleased material that could be fashioned into an album
- 28:12at some point. And I want to see these things
- 28:15now that they got in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and then
- 28:18no. And nothing they didn't show up
- 28:20can fail. No would have been very
- 28:23interesting with that collection of singers including Lizzie Hale
- 28:26and and so many others that maybe could have did Soundgarden
- 28:29justice. Rival Sons, Mastodon, Gojira,
- 28:34Tool, all fans, William Duvall, all fans of Soundgarden and
- 28:39friends of Soundgarden. And this would have been super
- 28:42nice to have Soundgarden clearly a huge, the 2 bands that
- 28:46Soundgarden used to constantly talk about was Black Sabbath and
- 28:51Black Play. So you know, those are the two
- 28:54poles that that sound Gordon kind of lived between to them
- 28:58and a little bit of beetles, which also Ozzy loves.
- 29:00So you know, just strange. And then very coincidentally,
- 29:03Matt Cameron retires from Pearl Jam on Monday, so or Sunday,
- 29:08like, wow, you know, legitimately shocking.
- 29:13I wonder if they'll call up Josh Freeze.
- 29:15He's kind of too much of A drummer for Pearl Jam stuff.
- 29:17But maybe this frees Matt up to do Soundgarden stuff in the
- 29:21future if they were to reunite with a new singer.
- 29:23Hey, STP did it, Alice In Chains did it.
- 29:27Why not sound? I would like to see a very
- 29:29competent, great singer come on and do it.
- 29:32But you know, I know just like everything else, just like
- 29:35Linkin Park, just like Alice In Chains, it's also tough.
- 29:39This is maybe the biggest head scratcher of them all.
- 29:41Slipknot is the biggest metal band in the world.
- 29:44I don't understand why they are not here for this thing.
- 29:47Like why is Corey in particular Slipknot?
- 29:50I know Eloy was there, right? He played with Gojira for a
- 29:54minute. There was like a little drum off
- 29:55there, I think. And at least Corey could have
- 30:01shown up, right? Like this is a thing that he
- 30:04would have his name all over. Like he's covered both Ozzy and
- 30:08Dio and Black Sabbath at different times.
- 30:13And I don't understand, like, why is he not there now?
- 30:16The only thing I can think of, I know that Slipknot has had a
- 30:18very rigorous touring schedule for the last year and they have
- 30:22more to come. And I know that Corey had the
- 30:25personal stuff with his wife and some chick who was trying to
- 30:28catfish him or whatever and sneer him in her vagina, going
- 30:34so far as to put her phone number in his kids iPad.
- 30:37Jesus Christ, what are you doing?
- 30:41So maybe he's just circling the wagons and staying close to home
- 30:44with his family when he's not on tour, you know, so she A, can
- 30:48keep an eye on him and B, can show that he's being, you know,
- 30:51a faithful person. I don't there's no evidence that
- 30:53he was unfaithful. But you know, I can see how it
- 30:55is. If your marriage is in a tough
- 30:57spot, you don't want to be away from home as you know as as
- 31:00little as possible. You want to be away.
- 31:01So but just baffling that Corey at least or Slipknot, you know,
- 31:05I know probably logistically would have been hard for
- 31:07Slipknot to come out and just play 3 songs.
- 31:09Their whole thing is a whole thing, but bizarre to me.
- 31:15Like I just couldn't even like where is Corey Taylor?
- 31:17Not only what does Corey Taylor think?
- 31:19What where is Corey? Where is Slipknot?
- 31:21Like where why were they not here?
- 31:24And so, Megan, this has been kind of put down.
- 31:30I don't know how an authority, how much of an authority Kelly
- 31:33Osbourne is about this, but she said it wasn't.
- 31:37She said it wasn't. Megan FI don't know that she
- 31:41would know more than Sharon or Jack Gigi Fan 99999 is here.
- 31:45What's up? What's up?
- 31:46What's up? Mark Anderson is here.
- 31:47Hello. Hello.
- 31:48Good to see you again. Say hi and drop a comment.
- 31:51Tell us if you watched the Black Sabbath thing, who you think was
- 31:54kicked off. Dillinger thinks it's Danzig.
- 31:57I don't have Danzig on this deck, but you know.
- 32:01So Megan at this in the studio with Nashville making their
- 32:03brand new album, first new album with team new Montessori a
- 32:07winner son as lead guitarist. Dave is not loyal to people.
- 32:12Scott James Lomenzo. I know Ellefson was added to
- 32:15this Black Sabbath concert because Megadeth could not,
- 32:19would not be there if David was. I don't think they would both
- 32:21get invited as much as David. Ellefson is super well liked and
- 32:25is very fond of me and I'm very fond of him and I appreciate
- 32:28him. And you know, if I think the
- 32:32only thing I can think of here is a the studio is booked and
- 32:35that's the time for the record. And I think Megadeth is writing
- 32:40a lot in the studio. You know, their new thing is to
- 32:42sort of write most of a record and then go in and finish it
- 32:45including like tweaks and things like that.
- 32:47As Dave the producer. The last few albums is like in
- 32:50the studio, some things take a different shape.
- 32:52We have a long lengthy interview with Dirk Verburen with Omar.
- 32:57My co-owner goes called Omar Cordy and he talked a lot about
- 33:00how songs kind of change between the demo stage and the final
- 33:03stage. But also like, you know, maybe
- 33:06then the big 4 is there and that big four thing over does that
- 33:10over Shadow Sabbath and Ozzy. Is Megadeth going to come out?
- 33:13What 3 songs would Megadeth play?
- 33:15You know, what cover would they play?
- 33:19I don't know. You know, I I like to think that
- 33:22Dave just turned it down because that's when the studio was
- 33:26booked for and they are on a schedule to put a record out in
- 33:28late 25 or early 26 probably. And that would have Kibosh that
- 33:34you know, and he's not a young chicken anymore, young spring
- 33:38chicken where he can fly around the world and just be OK.
- 33:40We've seen him. He's a little, you know, he
- 33:42still plays great. He's, you know, pretty good on
- 33:45the vocals comparatively to his whole career.
- 33:47But like, I'm sure it just takes a lot more energy out of me once
- 33:51you've had debilitating disease like cancer, which he is cancer
- 33:54free, but still fucked up. Trivium.
- 33:58So this is 1 no one has been talking about that is bothering
- 34:01me besides Slipknot and Corey that no one has been talking
- 34:04about. If you look at the bands on the
- 34:07first half of the bill, let's take out Rival Sons, who are a
- 34:10little more popular in the UK than they are in the States or
- 34:13anywhere else in the world, Europe.
- 34:15In the UK, Rival Sun's a much bigger band, but OK, great band
- 34:17and they did great. They were fucking a surprise to
- 34:20a lot of people and I think they would great.
- 34:22Manstadon, Gojira, Lamb of God, even Hailstorm, Trivium is more
- 34:28popular than all of these bands in the USA.
- 34:33They are a little more commercial and softer than Lamb
- 34:35of God. They play just as technical and
- 34:37heavy and thrashy and nothing. No Trivium.
- 34:42They just finished a big tour. They're writing a record on
- 34:46their own timetable in their own studio and the hangar.
- 34:48They own the Airplane studio, whatever that is in Florida.
- 34:52No Trivium, no Mac Heefy guys Beloved and Shred can vocalize,
- 34:57you know Vocalist and Shred would have been an an inspired
- 35:00choice. And why is this band not here?
- 35:03I'm so shocked they weren't considered.
- 35:05They were an early Oz Fest band. Their first big tour was Oz Fest
- 35:102005 again the Iron Maiden Oz Fest.
- 35:13They have opened for Ozzy, they have played with every band on
- 35:17this bill. They've opened for Metallica,
- 35:19they've opened for all these bands.
- 35:21Co headlined with Gojira and Mastodon and Lamba God all
- 35:25recently. So just strange to me that
- 35:28Trivium has never talked about as one of these bands that
- 35:31absolutely kind of should have been at this thing.
- 35:32But OK, can't invite everybody. As my Co host on the roundtable
- 35:37review, Gayle Worley of Worley Gig said Hey Breed is another
- 35:42band. I think they are maybe just not
- 35:43as big in the rest of the world, but like they just came off of a
- 35:48huge European Tour. They were in Europe right before
- 35:51the 4th of July. Why not them?
- 35:54Hate Breed is fun. They do covers all the whole
- 35:57covers album just has got great energy.
- 36:01The crowd loves him. He is a monster on tour, on
- 36:04stage and I just was like, why not Hate Breed?
- 36:08They're so loved. You know, they were a Nas fest
- 36:11band, they were a Mayhem fest band.
- 36:13They go very well over in Europe in a European festivals.
- 36:16Maybe some of their fest, maybe some of their tour slots were
- 36:19exclusives. And so there's showing up in the
- 36:22UK again, would be verboten for them against a contract.
- 36:25But like, Jamie's one of the most solid people in all of
- 36:28music history in terms of being just a good righteous, no
- 36:32trouble dude. I love this photo.
- 36:34This is from I think the Not Fest Iowa last year.
- 36:38This is shot by Wayne Edwards of Shardock Media from those cult
- 36:43guys, Monster photographer and writer.
- 36:46Also also five Finger Death Punch.
- 36:49Not my favorite band, but again, another band, a massive band in
- 36:52terms of like American, you know, they would headline over
- 36:55trivia man Lamba God in some cases.
- 36:57They obviously headlined in both America and Europe over Megadeth
- 37:00even just recently and nothing from them.
- 37:04Again, I know Ivan Moody has had his issues and he's, you know,
- 37:07very focused on his sobriety and not being on the road as much
- 37:10and away from his kids. But like No 5 finger death punch
- 37:14just weird and I think that's it from my list.
- 37:19If you're watching this now, you can drop a comment and tell me
- 37:22who you think got kicked off. I still think it was true.
- 37:26I'm scratching my head about these other ones that were not
- 37:29invited or asked, you know, feel free to drop us a tip if you'd
- 37:34like to I'll be back for here's a little programming note.
- 37:38I'll be back tomorrow. Here's the thumbnail sneak
- 37:40preview of the thumbnail for tomorrow afternoon show.
- 37:44And you know, that's what we do. I, I normally don't show the
- 37:49thumbnail before I do the show, but here we go.
- 37:52Tell me, tell me who you think got kicked off by Sharon.
- 37:59Hopefully she's going to tell us.
- 38:00She's very good at manipulating the media.
- 38:02I do hope and believe this will be some kind of DVD Blu-ray
- 38:06video on demand concert with a live album.
- 38:09I think to get all the band's record labels to collaborate and
- 38:12cooperate might be hard outside of Metallica, who owns
- 38:16everything of themselves. But everybody else is beholden
- 38:19to different companies. Land of God and Gochura and
- 38:22Master are on the same label. Hailstorms on Atlantic.
- 38:26It's tough, but maybe the Sabbath covers at least can be,
- 38:31you know, extended to the music performances in the live album.
- 38:36And then, you know, you can do that for charity also, which
- 38:39would be a nice. If you make it be for charity
- 38:41and it's not-for-profit, then everybody is kind of more apt.
- 38:45Record labels are a little more apt to cooperate.
- 38:48And that is this live stream. It is a comfortable under 40
- 38:53minutes. Not too bad from this chatterbox
- 38:55made here. I'll be back 1214 hours, 15
- 39:00hours from now with the weekly ritual Coast cults rocky metal
- 39:04news show every week recapping the week the was and we're going
- 39:07to talk more about this also. And just the last licks here.
- 39:13Dillinger being up late 3 in the morning where you are, pal.
- 39:16My Dying Bride would have made more sense than five finger put.
- 39:19I think hailstorm was good. There's a there was shockingly
- 39:22no women beside Lizzie Hale. Just shocking to me a little bit
- 39:27shocking. Yeah, I hear what you're saying.
- 39:31I think Orange Goblin is probably the omission in terms
- 39:34of British bands. Of all those Stoner doom bands,
- 39:37The band that's hanging it up at the end of this year is the band
- 39:40to put on this thing. All the other bands are just too
- 39:44small. Again, like looking at
- 39:46streaming, looking at who's a you know, OPEC, who I love and
- 39:52are legends are too small a band to be on this thing, even though
- 39:56I love OPEC and they would have did a bang up fucking job.
- 40:01And I do love My Dying Bride and I think there is Aaron, like not
- 40:05in My Dying Bride right now. So they have their own problems.
- 40:08Like I wouldn't, I don't necessarily know if I want to
- 40:11see the band without him. And could you imagine My Dying
- 40:17Bride showing up to play this thing and not having Aaron the
- 40:23singer? He had the backup singer, which
- 40:26is fine. He got a great guy, but I don't
- 40:29know, I don't know, possessed this year.
- 40:34What up, possessed what up? Gigi fan thanks everybody who
- 40:36watched this unexpected late live stream about who Sharon
- 40:40kicked off the Back to the Beginning show.
- 40:43I watched it and I loved almost all of it.
- 40:47And it was a it's wonderful to say I lived in the time where
- 40:50this could happen. And I don't know if something
- 40:52like this will happen again. Maybe from Talaco when they call
- 40:54it a day, but we'll see. Thanks everybody for watching.
- 40:58I'll be back in about 15 hours with the weekly ritual.
- 41:01I'm Kefi from ghostcalledmag.com.
- 41:03Thanks for being here and peace and goodnight to everybody.
