Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: 11 in the East, 10 in the Central.
- 0:02Speaker 2: The next round presented by Hard Rock Bets on Sporting State.
- 0:06Speaker 2: I was trying to come up with a cool intro
- 0:07Speaker 2: for Brooks Austin off of some of the Emmy Award
- 0:10Speaker 2: winners last night.
- 0:12Speaker 1: DTF St. Louis won an Emmy last night, so I
- 0:15Speaker 1: was going to go Brooks Austin, DTF, digest the film.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Look at it. Helmet to the head. That's a hard
- 0:21Speaker 1: rock bed helmet. You ready to go, man?
- 0:23Speaker 3: Hell yeah. Hard rock bed buddies. What's up, guys? How
- 0:26Speaker 3: are you? Hard rock bed buddies. Let's go.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Look at our growing partnerships.
- 0:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:32Speaker 1: How are you, Brooks?
- 0:33Speaker 3: I got a helmet. Do y'all have a helmet? We don't.
- 0:34Speaker 3: I have a helmet. Do y'all have a helmet? Oh,
- 0:35Speaker 3: hang on. Hang on.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, we do.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We just don't have a hard rock bed. It doesn't
- 0:40Speaker 1: say hard rock beds.
- 0:42Speaker 4: I was about to say. I mean, I got multiple
- 0:44Speaker 4: helmets in here. I was wondering if y'all got a
- 0:46Speaker 4: hard rock bed helmet.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Yeah. We're game ready, by the way, with the next
- 0:50Speaker 1: round helmet. These are game ready helmets.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Atta boy. I got a couple of helmets in here.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I got my hard rock bat helmet that gets prestige placement.
- 0:58Speaker 4: I got my college helmet, my high school helmet. Hell,
- 1:01Speaker 4: I might find my middle school helmet.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Hey, cool Alabama shirt there, man. I love that.
- 1:08Speaker 3: You like that?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:09Speaker 1: I thought it was when he first popped up on
- 1:10Speaker 1: the preview screen. I was like, he's wearing a bat.
- 1:12Speaker 3: Oh, no, that's Braves.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Man, I'm dying to know.
- 1:17Speaker 2: What you have seen of Camario Taylor so far, because
- 1:21Speaker 2: I know you've, you've seen him from last year. You
- 1:23Speaker 2: talked about him all summer long, but for the, for
- 1:26Speaker 2: most of America, it's like Camario Taylor's this new present.
- 1:28Speaker 2: They got the first two weeks. So where is Camario
- 1:31Speaker 2: better than he was last year? And what do you
- 1:33Speaker 2: think of the kid?
- 1:35Speaker 3: I just more of him. I don't, I don't think
- 1:37Speaker 3: he's got it.
- 1:37Speaker 4: I mean, he's gotten better obviously with, with gang, with
- 1:40Speaker 4: game reps and whatnot, but all that was on that
- 1:42Speaker 4: tape last year. If you, if you turn that old
- 1:45Speaker 4: miss game on, you would have, came away thinking the
- 1:48Speaker 4: same thing I came away with, which is this is the,
- 1:51Speaker 4: I said this this summer, this is the traitsiest human
- 1:53Speaker 4: being that has ever played in the wide choice offense.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Like he is, he is the biggest, fastest, strongest, best
- 2:00Speaker 4: thrower of the football that this offense has ever seen.
- 2:04Speaker 4: And Jeff Levy has got him playing like a fine-tuned machine.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Like there, there is no doubt this guy is extremely
- 2:11Speaker 4: physically gifted and Lance, I heard you yesterday or the
- 2:14Speaker 4: other day, I think it was, he was like, man,
- 2:16Speaker 4: I don't know if enough people are talking about this enough.
- 2:18Speaker 4: People know if they don't buy now, they're not watching
- 2:21Speaker 4: football and we shouldn't listen to their opinions.
- 2:24Speaker 3: You know what I mean? If like some national voice,
- 2:26Speaker 3: I'm not talking about you.
- 2:27Speaker 4: I'm talking about somebody on game day. If they're like, wow, I'm,
- 2:31Speaker 4: I'm like new to this. Where have you been the
- 2:34Speaker 4: first two weeks of college football? It like the dude had,
- 2:37Speaker 4: I think they had 780 yards of total offense week
- 2:40Speaker 4: one as an offense. And week two, they go to
- 2:44Speaker 4: Minnesota and they're taking their foot off the gas. Like
- 2:48Speaker 4: Mississippi State out-possessioned. The wide choice, run 90 plays the game.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Mississippi State out-possessioned the I'm trying to slog this thing
- 3:00Speaker 4: out Minnesota Gophers this past weekend.
- 3:02Speaker 3: That was the biggest. What's up?
- 3:04Speaker 5: Well, I know I was just going to say, you know,
- 3:06Speaker 5: they had moments last year in year two under Labby.
- 3:09Speaker 5: I mean, they should have beaten Tennessee. They should have
- 3:11Speaker 5: beaten Texas. That was with Blake Chapin. But I wanted
- 3:14Speaker 5: to ask you, I mean, the offense, obviously they can
- 3:16Speaker 5: run the football. Defensively, Zach Arnett's units. I know it's
- 3:20Speaker 5: been La Monroe. It's been Minnesota. But what are you
- 3:23Speaker 5: seeing there? Is that a defense that is competent enough
- 3:27Speaker 5: to complement this offense?
- 3:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, they just got to get a couple
- 3:31Speaker 4: of stops because they're going to be able to outscore
- 3:33Speaker 4: everybody else. But what I was getting at right there
- 3:36Speaker 4: at the end was the most important thing about Mississippi
- 3:39Speaker 4: State football for me is the fact that can you
- 3:42Speaker 4: actually slow it down? Can you actually be comfortable when
- 3:46Speaker 4: you formulate a lead? like being willing to, you know,
- 3:50Speaker 4: choose some clock a little bit. Cause normally these wide
- 3:52Speaker 4: choice offenses, it's like putting them in handcuffs when you're like, Hey,
- 3:55Speaker 4: slow down. We have a 21 to three lead. Can
- 3:58Speaker 4: we actually choose some clock to protect our defense? Cause
- 4:02Speaker 4: if we keep rolling our defense out there, eventually they
- 4:05Speaker 4: will die. But I do think our net last year
- 4:09Speaker 4: in the previous years without him, they were trying to
- 4:12Speaker 4: be this chaos based defense that, Because they didn't feel
- 4:15Speaker 4: like they could hold up and play normal base defense
- 4:18Speaker 4: and get off the field.
- 4:20Speaker 3: They felt like they had.
- 4:20Speaker 4: To hunt TFLs and hunt sacks and hunt explosive plays
- 4:24Speaker 4: on defense. And what it ended up opening themselves up
- 4:26Speaker 4: to is allowing explosives, right? I feel like Arnett is
- 4:30Speaker 4: one of the best defensive coordinators I've studied at of
- 4:33Speaker 4: maintaining that chaos. while teaching it at a high enough
- 4:37Speaker 4: level to avoid giving up explosives, right? Maintaining gap integrity
- 4:42Speaker 4: while hunting, like, havoc-based defense. It's honestly what makes Brian
- 4:46Speaker 4: Haynes up in Indiana, for my money, one of the best,
- 4:49Speaker 4: if not the best, defensive coordinators in the sport, where
- 4:52Speaker 4: we can hunt all this havoc, we can do all
- 4:54Speaker 4: this crazy stuff while maintaining gap integrity and not putting
- 4:59Speaker 4: two guys in one gap and then allowing a massive
- 5:01Speaker 4: gap to open up, and then bam, we end up
- 5:03Speaker 4: getting hit with an explosive or busting the coverage. Yeah,
- 5:07Speaker 4: I do think, you know, they can cover. They've got some,
- 5:10Speaker 4: you know, dynamic playmakers in the back end. In the box, man, nowadays,
- 5:15Speaker 4: we don't necessarily need a Mount Cody or we don't
- 5:18Speaker 4: necessarily need a Jalen Carter.
- 5:20Speaker 3: If we're good.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Enough with our Havoc, if we're good enough with our
- 5:23Speaker 4: twist stunts and wraps, we don't necessarily need a super
- 5:26Speaker 4: freak up front, and I do think Arnett does a
- 5:28Speaker 4: good enough job there. But, yeah, man, this offense and
- 5:32Speaker 4: this quarterback, goofy, absolutely goofy.
- 5:36Speaker 1: The Film Guy Network on YouTube is where you see
- 5:39Speaker 1: Brooks work. The Film Guy Network on YouTube. Like those.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Subscribe.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Set your alerts so you know when he drops stuff.
- 5:44Speaker 1: He's at a game every week now with Hard Rock
- 5:47Speaker 1: Ben with On 3. He's at a game every single week.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Most recently, Texas-Ohio State. He's going to be at the
- 5:53Speaker 1: Blood Feud coming up this Saturday in Oxford. Um, but, but,
- 5:58Speaker 1: but on the film guy network, you have a video
- 6:01Speaker 1: up and we encourage everyone to go watch this. I'm
- 6:03Speaker 1: going to, he's going to talk about it, but go
- 6:05Speaker 1: watch the 35 minute video. If you're a Bama fan
- 6:08Speaker 1: is the Alabama run game back on the Hills of
- 6:11Speaker 1: Alabama and Lexington. Your answer to that question is.
- 6:14Speaker 3: What, uh, it's at least diverse enough to be back.
- 6:19Speaker 3: All right.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Last year, they were a primary zone football team. They
- 6:22Speaker 4: ran a lot of duo, uh, which is like a
- 6:24Speaker 4: we're going to move you against your will type of run.
- 6:28Speaker 4: And with what I just got done talking about with Arnett,
- 6:30Speaker 4: like all this chaos that defenses are creating, it's not
- 6:33Speaker 4: just him. It's every defense. Guys, Georgia's running run stunts
- 6:37Speaker 4: on first.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Down, right?
- 6:39Speaker 4: Like a team that was historically a two gap structure
- 6:42Speaker 4: where our defensive line is better than your offensive line.
- 6:45Speaker 3: So we're just going to hold the point.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Like nobody's doing that anymore because they're trying to create TFLs.
- 6:51Speaker 4: They're trying to throw off your combination blocks. So what
- 6:54Speaker 4: we have to have nowadays in a run game structure
- 6:57Speaker 4: is gap scheme.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Runs, right?
- 6:59Speaker 4: We have to be able to run counter. We have
- 7:00Speaker 4: to be able to run wide zone. We have to
- 7:02Speaker 4: be able to run jets. Like we have to be
- 7:03Speaker 4: able to run quarterback counter read. Like we have to
- 7:06Speaker 4: do all this stuff to avoid giving up TFLs. And
- 7:10Speaker 4: when I turned on the ECU tape week one, I'm like, man,
- 7:14Speaker 4: where's all the diversity in the run game? Where's all
- 7:17Speaker 4: the five or six different schemes that we're going to
- 7:20Speaker 4: throw at this defense to at least create some hesitation, right?
- 7:23Speaker 4: To not allow defenders to just run their ass upfield.
- 7:27Speaker 4: And then I figured, okay, maybe this is just because
- 7:31Speaker 4: we can beat ECU 48-10 running week one install. Maybe
- 7:36Speaker 4: the bag, if you will, maybe the diversified run game
- 7:39Speaker 4: will show up in conference play. And sure as hell,
- 7:42Speaker 4: it did right there against Kentucky. So I was really,
- 7:45Speaker 4: really excited. to turn tape on and see that, okay,
- 7:48Speaker 4: this guy is actually going to throw the kitchen sink
- 7:51Speaker 4: at defenses when it comes to their run game. And
- 7:54Speaker 4: they beat that butt in the second half, 32 to nothing.
- 7:57Speaker 4: And guys, the last two scoring drives from Alabama, they
- 8:00Speaker 4: had 14 plays and ran the ball 10 times. They
- 8:03Speaker 4: couldn't do that last year. They couldn't do that the
- 8:05Speaker 4: year before. This is a mature, diversified run game, and
- 8:11Speaker 4: I was extremely happy to see that. And people will say, Well,
- 8:14Speaker 4: it's Kentucky Brooks. I mean, how many times are you
- 8:16Speaker 4: going to do that, though? How many times are you
- 8:18Speaker 4: going to tell me it's the opponent instead of giving
- 8:21Speaker 4: credit where credit is due? I was happy to see
- 8:24Speaker 4: that they have diversified the run game. I genuinely believe, guys,
- 8:28Speaker 4: if you're out here still running basic inside zone and
- 8:31Speaker 4: mid zone as an offensive coordinator and you're not installing
- 8:34Speaker 4: counter and you're not installing wide zone concepts and you're
- 8:37Speaker 4: not trying to stretch defenses to create vertical creases, you're
- 8:41Speaker 4: going to be updating your resume at the end of
- 8:43Speaker 4: the year because you're not going to be able to
- 8:44Speaker 4: run the ball.
- 8:46Speaker 3: And they aren't.
- 8:47Speaker 4: They're back into a diversified run scheme. And that's what
- 8:50Speaker 4: they were at Washington. They had to get these athletes
- 8:53Speaker 4: up front. and get away from these 375-pound tackles that
- 8:57Speaker 4: can't really do the athletic-based movements. Yeah, they might be
- 9:00Speaker 4: able to catch screen passes, but they're not counter-tackles, and
- 9:06Speaker 4: that's what they have now. I'm really impressed by the
- 9:08Speaker 4: way that they're getting to some of these run schemes too.
- 9:11Speaker 4: They're running counter different than everybody else. Most people run
- 9:14Speaker 4: guard tight end counter or guard tackle counter. The guard
- 9:18Speaker 4: pulls and kicks, and then the tackle or the tight
- 9:21Speaker 4: end pulls and wraps and inserts on the front side.
- 9:24Speaker 3: They're running HG counter.
- 9:26Speaker 4: They're kicking with the tight end and wrapping with the guard.
- 9:31Speaker 4: It's different than most ways of running counter nowadays.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I'm impressed.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Yeah, it's easy to get drunk off the victory of Texas'
- 9:38Speaker 1: fourth quarter comeback. But for the long haul, is Arch
- 9:44Speaker 1: Manning ready to be a quarterback that leads Texas to
- 9:48Speaker 1: where they are, the number one team in the country?
- 9:50Speaker 1: What did you see from Arch in that win down
- 9:53Speaker 1: in Austin?
- 9:54Speaker 4: I mean, so I'll lead with the good news, right? Like,
- 9:57Speaker 4: good news is he was clutch as hell. He never blinked.
- 10:00Speaker 4: right his best performance was in the fourth quarter they
- 10:02Speaker 4: had three drive they ran 81 snaps on saturday guys
- 10:05Speaker 4: and 40 of them came in their final three drives
- 10:08Speaker 4: wow like they they they worked all right in the
- 10:11Speaker 4: fourth quarter and sark to his credit never avoided the
- 10:14Speaker 4: run never bailed out of it, was down 20 points
- 10:17Speaker 4: in the fourth quarter, and maintained a balanced approach, which
- 10:21Speaker 4: I think young play callers need to pay attention to
- 10:23Speaker 4: that because it can be so easy, like Oklahoma did
- 10:27Speaker 4: this past weekend. It could be so easy to just
- 10:29Speaker 4: be like, oh, hey, we got to spam the pass.
- 10:31Speaker 4: We have to pass the football, despite the fact that
- 10:34Speaker 4: our tailbacks were averaging four yards a carry at Oklahoma
- 10:38Speaker 4: this past weekend, and they only gave them 16 touches.
- 10:41Speaker 3: That's not ideal.
- 10:45Speaker 4: I'm really bullish on the fact that this kid never
- 10:48Speaker 4: blinked in the fourth quarter, but guys, it's still, to me,
- 10:51Speaker 4: it's still like two different players. Like one play, we
- 10:54Speaker 4: look awesome. And then the next play we're like, man.
- 10:59Speaker 4: We missed that. We probably should have pulled the trigger
- 11:02Speaker 4: there or we finally pulled the trigger and we dirtied
- 11:05Speaker 4: the football. Like I love Dan Orlovsky. You guys love
- 11:09Speaker 4: Dan Orlovsky. We all love Dan Orlovsky.
- 11:11Speaker 3: All right.
- 11:11Speaker 4: But I find it really disingenuous that we show the
- 11:15Speaker 4: the fourth and six like shallow or the bender to
- 11:19Speaker 4: Emmett Mosley where we rip a bean with pressure in
- 11:22Speaker 4: our face and and we convert the biggest fourth down
- 11:25Speaker 4: of the football game, but we don't show the same
- 11:28Speaker 4: exact play from the second quarter where Emmitt Mosley's got
- 11:30Speaker 4: a 45-yard reception if we just hit him in stride
- 11:34Speaker 4: and he's butt naked open over the middle of the field, and.
- 11:36Speaker 3: We miss him by five yards in front of him.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Like, it's that type of hit or miss with Arch
- 11:42Speaker 4: right now, and to be frank, it really.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Always has been. It's always been, wow, ugh, whoa, ugh. Like,
- 11:52Speaker 3: it's this... It's this up.
- 11:54Speaker 4: And down right now with him. And to be honest,
- 11:57Speaker 4: from the box, I was like, man, what's Sark guy
- 12:00Speaker 4: going on? And then I watched the tape. Bro, Sark
- 12:02Speaker 4: was in his bag from snap one. Sark had open
- 12:06Speaker 4: runners all day long, all day long. And to Sark's credit,
- 12:10Speaker 4: if he missed, if the quarterback missed the dig, he'd
- 12:14Speaker 4: call it again, get in his ear and say, the
- 12:16Speaker 4: dig is open.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Will you throw it? And then the next play they
- 12:20Speaker 3: get it. You know what I'm saying?
- 12:21Speaker 4: So like, This type of stuff, if the kid ever
- 12:24Speaker 4: is consistently what he can be, yes, he will be
- 12:28Speaker 4: quote-unquote generational.
- 12:29Speaker 3: He will be quote-unquote first pick. He will be all
- 12:32Speaker 3: this stuff.
- 12:33Speaker 4: But we're not consistently there yet, and I'm still hopeful
- 12:36Speaker 4: that he is because I had the kid number two
- 12:39Speaker 4: on my preseason quarterback ranking. So please, for the love
- 12:42Speaker 4: of God, please be it. I want to be right.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I root to be right. I want to be right.
- 12:46Speaker 3: But we're still hit or miss right about now.
- 12:49Speaker 5: So fascinating game Saturday night that a lot of people
- 12:52Speaker 5: won't see in Jordan Hare with Florida and Auburn, two
- 12:55Speaker 5: first-year coaches, and some are all in goalage because of
- 12:58Speaker 5: LSU Ole Miss. I know you're a big fan, Buster Faulkner,
- 13:02Speaker 5: Aaron Filo. Byron Brown looks like he cleaned a lot
- 13:06Speaker 5: up from week one to week two. I know it
- 13:07Speaker 5: was Southern Miss. Right now, offensively, who's got the advantage,
- 13:11Speaker 5: Florida or Auburn?
- 13:14Speaker 4: Well, I will rarely ever give anyone an edge over
- 13:17Speaker 4: Buster Faulkner, so there you go. um the weaponry I
- 13:21Speaker 4: mean even without Eric Singleton I don't I'm not a
- 13:24Speaker 4: I'm not a names guy I'm a numbers guy uh
- 13:26Speaker 4: that number four from Florida is really freaking good like
- 13:30Speaker 4: I I said this earlier in the year before the
- 13:32Speaker 4: season even started it's going to be hard to fail
- 13:35Speaker 4: at quarterback at Florida and I I'm a big Philo
- 13:38Speaker 4: guy but when we talk about Vernell Brown when we
- 13:40Speaker 4: talk about Dallas Wilson when we talk about Jaden Ball
- 13:43Speaker 4: when we talk about number four when Eric Singleton gets
- 13:46Speaker 4: healthy like I don't know of an offense in college
- 13:49Speaker 4: football that has that wide receiver core and potentially one
- 13:52Speaker 4: of the best backs in college football, if not the
- 13:54Speaker 4: best back in college football. And for my money, a
- 13:58Speaker 4: top three coordinator in the sport. It's going to be really,
- 14:01Speaker 4: really hard to fail at quarterback. Now, this will be
- 14:05Speaker 4: the toughest test maybe all season because DJ Durkin is
- 14:09Speaker 4: a lunatic. DJ Durkin is one of the best defensive
- 14:12Speaker 4: coordinators in the sport. And if there is something that
- 14:15Speaker 4: you can't do He'll make you do it for four
- 14:18Speaker 4: quarters and he'll cause chaos on the way of doing it. Like,
- 14:22Speaker 4: and you're on the road to Jordan here at night.
- 14:24Speaker 4: So this will be the test. If they get out
- 14:27Speaker 4: of this one alive with a lot of points on
- 14:30Speaker 4: the board, man, look out for Florida. Like I put
- 14:34Speaker 4: the floor this year for Florida at eight and four.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Like I thought that was the floor. I expected them
- 14:40Speaker 4: to go eight and four or better. And people looked
- 14:43Speaker 4: at me like I was crazy. And we'll find out
- 14:45Speaker 4: if I'm a stupid person this weekend. That's what we'll
- 14:48Speaker 4: find out.
- 14:49Speaker 1: You mentioned Georgia earlier, and they have been under the
- 14:51Speaker 1: radar because they are playing lesser competition right now. They
- 14:54Speaker 1: haven't played one of these big games. However, I remember
- 14:58Speaker 1: going into week one, I was talking about the fact
- 15:00Speaker 1: that Kirby Smart, when he's a favorite of 35 or more,
- 15:02Speaker 1: has never covered. And it's like Kirby got pissed off
- 15:05Speaker 1: about that because now he's scoring 70 points in a game.
- 15:08Speaker 1: That's right. Covered both of them. He's covered both of
- 15:10Speaker 1: them by a mile. And it's somewhat uncharacteristic. What has
- 15:15Speaker 1: been the change? Is this offense just that good that
- 15:17Speaker 1: he can't throttle it back?
- 15:19Speaker 4: I think the execution rates are that high. Guys, they
- 15:22Speaker 4: had six scoring drives last weekend of three plays or less.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah, that's uncommon.
- 15:29Speaker 3: It's hard to do that on air.
- 15:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:32Speaker 4: I mean, six scoring drives of three plays or less.
- 15:35Speaker 4: They had two forced fumbles, two picks, and a kickoff
- 15:38Speaker 4: return for a touchdown. I've never seen that. I've covered
- 15:43Speaker 4: Georgia since 2019. I have never seen them do that.
- 15:47Speaker 4: We could talk about lesser than competition, but they played
- 15:49Speaker 4: with their food last year against Marshall. They played with
- 15:52Speaker 4: their food last year against Austin Peay. They were way
- 15:55Speaker 4: better than that Georgia Tech football team last year. They
- 15:58Speaker 4: were in a fourth quarter dogfight. You go back two
- 16:00Speaker 4: years ago, They're getting their face ran through by UMass
- 16:05Speaker 4: at home. This is a total different level of execution
- 16:10Speaker 4: from a Georgia football team that I haven't seen in
- 16:13Speaker 4: a long, long time. I think he tries to call
- 16:17Speaker 4: the dogs off, but can't seemingly do it.
- 16:22Speaker 3: We can go out there.
- 16:23Speaker 4: The backup quarterbacks, I think, had seven total pass attempts
- 16:27Speaker 4: on Saturday. It's not like It's not like they went
- 16:30Speaker 4: out there and was like, all right, Ryan Puglisi, go
- 16:32Speaker 4: run the full offense.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Not really. Not really.
- 16:35Speaker 4: They just couldn't stop scoring. And Kirby, to his typical
- 16:40Speaker 4: Kirby smart. went up to the press conference and talked
- 16:43Speaker 4: like they lost that damn game. That guy's a crazy person,
- 16:47Speaker 4: as all the great ones are. All the great ones
- 16:50Speaker 4: are never satisfied, never happy. The Florida guy and the
- 16:56Speaker 4: Auburn guy are the same way, by the way.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I don't know. Y'all have probably noticed this by now. Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 3: And people are calling it performative. Yeah, it is. It is.
- 17:03Speaker 3: It's performative.
- 17:04Speaker 4: No different than when Nick Saban used to do it.
- 17:07Speaker 4: No different than when Kirby Smart does it. You have
- 17:10Speaker 4: to go up there. and talk like your team sucks
- 17:13Speaker 4: like that. Cause they're, they're listening. They're listening to that.
- 17:16Speaker 4: We can love them up in the locker room after
- 17:18Speaker 4: the game. Hey, great job, but not good enough. It's
- 17:21Speaker 4: always the, it's always the message. The message has to
- 17:24Speaker 4: always be not good enough. We have to get better
- 17:27Speaker 4: because we constantly have to.
- 17:29Speaker 2: I would hate to have you on and not ask
- 17:31Speaker 2: you about the game. You're going to this weekend, LSU
- 17:33Speaker 2: and Ole Miss.
- 17:35Speaker 1: My concern is.
- 17:37Speaker 3: My safety?
- 17:40Speaker 1: Is Ole Miss what I saw in that Louisville game defensively?
- 17:45Speaker 1: Are you comfortable with Ole Miss' defense in this game
- 17:48Speaker 1: against LSU? What's your just overall feel on this one?
- 17:52Speaker 4: Yeah, typically when Lane was there and Pete was the D.C.,
- 17:56Speaker 4: all of the new faces were on offense. And he
- 17:58Speaker 4: kind of made Pete like piecemeal the defense with returning
- 18:01Speaker 4: players and try to find decent enough, you know, pieces
- 18:06Speaker 4: to keep the other team under 28 while we score 42.
- 18:11Speaker 4: And now all the new faces and high end purchase
- 18:13Speaker 4: values are on the defensive side of the football at
- 18:17Speaker 4: the defensive.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Line and in the back end.
- 18:20Speaker 4: And when you have new faces in that Pete Golding position,
- 18:23Speaker 4: defense it's gonna lead to some explosives allowed and busted
- 18:27Speaker 4: coverages because y'all remember that clip of Pete Golding talking
- 18:30Speaker 4: to Greg McElroy about all their defensive adjustments and like
- 18:34Speaker 4: all the the fancy terminology that he used you probably
- 18:38Speaker 4: remember if you don't look it up it's Pete Golding
- 18:40Speaker 4: talking about like all the different ways they're preparing for
- 18:44Speaker 4: Miami and And he's going through this 90-second soliloquy about
- 18:48Speaker 4: all this matching coverages that we're doing. And what he's
- 18:53Speaker 4: describing is what we call picture matching on our channel,
- 18:55Speaker 4: where if the offense lines up in this, we're going
- 18:58Speaker 4: to play this on this side of the football. If
- 19:00Speaker 4: they do this on this side, we're going to line
- 19:02Speaker 4: up here and play this. And when we have all
- 19:04Speaker 4: this picture matching defense, what it can create is explosives
- 19:07Speaker 4: and busted coverages because not everybody in the back ends
- 19:11Speaker 4: on the same page, especially when we have new faces.
- 19:14Speaker 4: So I don't expect that to be the standard of
- 19:16Speaker 4: Ole Miss defense, to answer your question. I expect a
- 19:19Speaker 4: lot of this to get solidified as the year progresses.
- 19:24Speaker 4: That being said, it's week three. It's not week nine.
- 19:27Speaker 4: You know what I mean? So we're still relatively new
- 19:30Speaker 4: with the defense that we have going in. So I
- 19:33Speaker 4: would imagine, and this is a totally new LSU offense.
- 19:37Speaker 4: It's not what they did at Ole Miss. It's totally new.
- 19:41Speaker 4: They have revamped that. There's a lot more pre-snap motion.
- 19:44Speaker 4: There's a lot more different formations. The run schemes are
- 19:48Speaker 4: totally different. They've revamped that offense to a tune of
- 19:53Speaker 4: something relatively impressive. I wasn't surprised to look up and
- 19:58Speaker 4: find out that Sam Levitt had thrown three interceptions this
- 20:00Speaker 4: past weekend, though. When I talked to LSU before the
- 20:04Speaker 4: game on Friday, they were like, hey, we respect this
- 20:07Speaker 4: Louisiana Tech defensive coordinator. We think this guy's got one
- 20:10Speaker 4: of the best check systems that we've played against. And
- 20:13Speaker 4: if you're going to play LSU, and if you're going
- 20:14Speaker 4: to play Lane Kiffin, if you're going to play Charlie Weiss,
- 20:17Speaker 4: you better be good at checking your defense because they're
- 20:19Speaker 4: going to check their offense into what you're playing. And
- 20:23Speaker 4: Louisiana Tech had great checks in the first half defensively,
- 20:26Speaker 4: and they created a lot of looks that were advantageous
- 20:30Speaker 4: to what LSU was checking into.
- 20:32Speaker 3: And that's going to lead to turnovers.
- 20:34Speaker 4: And Going into the season, I look kind of stupid
- 20:37Speaker 4: week one, but I said this Sam Levitt guy is
- 20:40Speaker 4: going to get some GM fired because somebody's going to
- 20:42Speaker 4: watch him this year with all the answers in his
- 20:44Speaker 4: headset from Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weiss and go, that's
- 20:48Speaker 4: Bo Nix.
- 20:49Speaker 3: I got to draft this.
- 20:51Speaker 4: Not realizing that, uh-oh, this guy's a little bit turnover prone.
- 20:54Speaker 4: He puts the ball at risk and we're through two
- 20:57Speaker 4: weeks and we have four interceptions and three in the
- 20:59Speaker 4: first half of one football game. That's the Sam Levitt experience.
- 21:03Speaker 4: You're going to have this ups and downs with regards
- 21:06Speaker 4: to the turnover margin. So to answer your question, no,
- 21:09Speaker 4: I don't expect Ole Miss to be bludgeoned to death
- 21:12Speaker 4: by explosives and busted coverages, but I do expect some
- 21:16Speaker 4: of that stuff to take some time.
- 21:17Speaker 1: You are a bit younger than us. I'm curious if
- 21:19Speaker 1: you like this show, and I wonder if you guys
- 21:21Speaker 1: ever watched it. It came on Sunday mornings. I'd watch
- 21:23Speaker 1: it before I went to church as a kid. and
- 21:25Speaker 1: as a teenager, and as a young adult. It was
- 21:27Speaker 1: called NFL Matchup, and it was Sal Palantonio.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Yeah, Brian Baldinger.
- 21:30Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 21:31Speaker 1: This was ESPN. It was Sal Palantonio, Merrill Hodge, and
- 21:34Speaker 1: Ron Jaworski. And they would have, y'all remember that show?
- 21:37Speaker 1: And they'd have a game and they're like, Steelers are
- 21:39Speaker 1: at the Ravens today. Merrill, what did the Steelers do
- 21:41Speaker 1: that's going to be trouble? And then Merrill would break
- 21:43Speaker 1: down the high. NFL Network has a. They got one
- 21:46Speaker 1: like that now? Yeah. So you watch the NFL Network version.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I love that ESPN version. All they would do is
- 21:52Speaker 1: break down film and it'd be like the end zone,
- 21:53Speaker 1: the high 22 end zone you never see. you know,
- 21:56Speaker 1: and they would, and Merrill would tell you why the
- 21:58Speaker 1: Pittsburgh plays work. And then Jaws will tell you why
- 22:00Speaker 1: the Ravens defense can stop it. That's all that Brooks does.
- 22:04Speaker 3: I know.
- 22:05Speaker 1: That's what I think. I did.
- 22:07Speaker 3: I did love that.
- 22:08Speaker 4: And I do love that content, obviously as a film
- 22:10Speaker 4: connoisseur and a film guy, I do understand why TV
- 22:14Speaker 4: executives moved away from it because, and I'm not trying
- 22:18Speaker 4: to hype myself up here, but a lot of football
- 22:21Speaker 4: people get in front of the board and they talk
- 22:23Speaker 4: over their audience and, And we lose the entertainment value
- 22:27Speaker 4: because we lose the audience and we're talking over the
- 22:30Speaker 4: head of them trying to sound really, really smart. That's
- 22:33Speaker 4: not what we do. That's not what I try to do.
- 22:35Speaker 4: I try to, you know, I always say on the channel,
- 22:38Speaker 4: I try to take somebody who knows football at a
- 22:39Speaker 4: calculus level and entertain them. And I try to take
- 22:42Speaker 4: someone who knows football at a kindergarten level and educate them.
- 22:45Speaker 3: And that's what we're trying to meet.
- 22:47Speaker 4: And sometimes when you do film analysis, you get way
- 22:51Speaker 4: too deep in the weeds and you talk way over
- 22:53Speaker 4: the head of your audience and you lose them. And
- 22:56Speaker 4: that's not the goal. The goal is not to have
- 22:59Speaker 4: someone leave a film study session going, my God, that
- 23:02Speaker 4: fat headed guy sure does know football. That's not what
- 23:05Speaker 4: I'm trying to do. I'm trying to entertain while educating.
- 23:09Speaker 4: And sometimes we can lose the audience and that's not
- 23:12Speaker 4: the goal. So I do understand why TV executives have
- 23:15Speaker 4: moved away from a lot of this stuff, but I
- 23:20Speaker 4: hope that every time we do it, we meet that
- 23:23Speaker 4: fine line in the middle of education and entertainment.
- 23:25Speaker 1: You do well, and that's why we encourage people to
- 23:28Speaker 1: go support your work, the Film Guy Network on YouTube,
- 23:31Speaker 1: and follow him on social media at BrooksAustinBA. Have fun
- 23:35Speaker 1: at Ole Miss LSU. That should be an entertaining night. Hey,
- 23:38Speaker 1: wear your helmet.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Take your helmet.
- 23:40Speaker 3: I'm going to.
- 23:41Speaker 4: I'm on the field all day in the entire game.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I have a field pass, and I don't think I've
- 23:47Speaker 4: ever been so nervous for going to a college football game.
- 23:53Speaker 4: That place, Pete Golding had a quote yesterday where he
- 23:56Speaker 4: was like, this is one of the most welcoming places
- 24:00Speaker 4: even to opposing fans. I'm like, sir, huh? No, that
- 24:04Speaker 4: is not the case. I would say Kyle Field is
- 24:07Speaker 4: that way. Texas A & M people are really, really nice.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Your people are mean. Your people do not make the
- 24:15Speaker 4: opposing fans feel welcome. And look, that's the way it
- 24:18Speaker 4: ought to be. I don't want to go to a
- 24:21Speaker 4: place as an opposing team and feel comfortable. That's not
- 24:26Speaker 4: what I want my home field advantage to feel like.
- 24:29Speaker 4: I want my home field advantage to feel like Ole Miss,
- 24:31Speaker 4: to feel like Knoxville, Tennessee. Those people feel like they're
- 24:34Speaker 4: going to reach out and grab you at any moment,
- 24:37Speaker 4: and that's the way it ought to be, especially when
- 24:40Speaker 4: the ex-girlfriend's coming to town.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Brooks, thanks, man. Enjoy it.
- 24:45Speaker 3: See you, boys.
- 24:46Speaker 1: All right, see you. That is Brooks Austin, the Film Guy,

- 27:05Speaker 1: in pursuit of a more perfect mortgage. All right. So
- 27:09Speaker 1: the rules every week for our upset alert involve negative
- 27:14Speaker 1: four and a half. You got to at least be
- 27:16Speaker 1: a four and a half point underdog to be played here.
- 27:21Speaker 1: If you get a cover, you get five points. Five
- 27:24Speaker 1: points plus the spread for an outright winner. We've had
- 27:28Speaker 1: one winner and one cover so far this year. Our
- 27:31Speaker 1: updated standings after two weeks. Tepid was the word I
- 27:35Speaker 1: used earlier. It is not a great, fantastic start. I
- 27:39Speaker 1: won week one, so I've got a big lead.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Brown got a cover last week, and we've really not
- 27:45Speaker 2: blown it out of the water yet. So just one
- 27:47Speaker 2: cover last week, one outright winner week one. Let's get
- 27:50Speaker 2: some winners. Let's get some winners this week, some outright winners.
- 27:54Speaker 2: LT's going retro on his graphic, I was told.
- 28:00Speaker 1: That's what you said earlier. So give me your upset alert.
- 28:03Speaker 5: I feel like my first two upset alerts have been
- 28:06Speaker 5: very competitive. Like Arkansas State was able to move the
- 28:09Speaker 5: ball on Memphis, just not enough. Arizona, again, that fourth
- 28:12Speaker 5: and four late in the game. They had an opportunity
- 28:15Speaker 5: to take the lead there. They take the lead there.
- 28:17Speaker 5: Good chance they win the game. With all that said,
- 28:20Speaker 5: I'm going back to the MAAC for a winner. A
- 28:22Speaker 5: little Miami of Ohio University plus 14.5 against Cincinnati, against
- 28:28Speaker 5: the Bearcats.
- 28:29Speaker 1: So an old school logo. Tell us about that first.
- 28:32Speaker 1: What is the logo? Is it a bucking bronco?
- 28:36Speaker 5: That's an Indian chief.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Oh, they're the Warhawks. That's right. Yeah. We got politically
- 28:40Speaker 1: correct in 97 or whatever. What did they become? What
- 28:42Speaker 1: are they now?
- 28:42Speaker 5: They became the Redhawks.
- 28:43Speaker 1: The Redhawks. That's right.
- 28:44Speaker 5: But this was one of their really good logos.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:48Speaker 5: That is their logo from 1956 to 1973.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Pull it up on the screen real quick.
- 28:53Speaker 5: And I agree with Scott. It looks like Donnie Darko
- 28:56Speaker 5: a little bit with the bunny mask.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Okay.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Okay.
- 28:59Speaker 5: That's a feather, but you know. But pull it up
- 29:02Speaker 5: to show these guys. So apparently I didn't do a
- 29:05Speaker 5: good job.
- 29:05Speaker 1: No, no, no. I can see it now. I couldn't
- 29:08Speaker 1: figure out.
- 29:09Speaker 3: He's leaned over.
- 29:09Speaker 1: I didn't realize he was leaned over. And I've never
- 29:11Speaker 1: seen the logo before.
- 29:12Speaker 5: He probably just took a gunshot to the back.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Could have. Or maybe the gut. Like he's leaning over.
- 29:17Speaker 3: Yeah, there it is.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Look. Oh, yeah, you did a nice job. Yeah, it's
- 29:21Speaker 1: spot on.
- 29:21Speaker 3: Okay, okay.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Now, I will say I'm kind of with him. The
- 29:24Speaker 1: feather looks like rabbit ears.
- 29:25Speaker 6: Now you did do a good job because that also
- 29:27Speaker 6: looks like Donnie Darko.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Okay. Okay. How about that?
- 29:31Speaker 5: So before the season, like Western Michigan was the trendy
- 29:34Speaker 5: pick in the Mac and then Chuck Martin and miami
- 29:36Speaker 5: of ohio actually became the the shortest odds to win
- 29:40Speaker 5: the mac before the season started and then they went
- 29:42Speaker 5: out and got absolutely walloped by pittsburgh but uh david
- 29:46Speaker 5: mccomb uh bounced back big game against this cincinnati defense
- 29:51Speaker 5: i've just got a sneaky feeling they're gonna win the game.
- 29:53Speaker 2: All right catching 14 and a half here I liked
- 29:56Speaker 2: that one a lot. I saw you drawing it yesterday.
- 29:58Speaker 5: Um, did you know what I was drawing?
- 29:59Speaker 1: Uh, it did not, but I, that was on my
- 30:03Speaker 1: list to pick was Miami of Ohio. I did not
- 30:06Speaker 1: pick them. It missed the cut. It missed the cut.
- 30:08Speaker 1: There's Donnie Darko. I see that now.
- 30:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:10Speaker 2: Donnie Darko was, uh, let's go to Brooks next Brooks.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Give me your upset alert.
- 30:17Speaker 7: Uh, Jim, I think I've successfully gone for the first
- 30:20Speaker 7: time a game that's not even on your sheet. So
- 30:22Speaker 7: I'm going to go 5 p.m. ESPN +. I'm going
- 30:27Speaker 7: to take the FIU Golden Panthers plus 7.5 over FAU.
- 30:33Speaker 1: It's a weird number. That's the Shula Bowl. It is.
- 30:36Speaker 5: It is the Shula Bowl.
- 30:38Speaker 1: FAU coming off a big win over Navy, a little
- 30:40Speaker 1: bit of an upset there.
- 30:42Speaker 7: FAU has not looked good on defense to this point
- 30:46Speaker 7: in the season, though FAU had almost 600 yards of
- 30:48Speaker 7: total offense last week in their win over Buffalo. I
- 30:51Speaker 7: like their chance to maybe move the ball in this
- 30:54Speaker 7: game and keep it close and hopefully get an outright win.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Why do I always feel like– In those two, in
- 31:01Speaker 2: the Shula Bowl, there's a have and a have not.
- 31:03Speaker 2: And I always feel like FIU is the have not.
- 31:07Speaker 5: I mean, it feels that way.
- 31:08Speaker 1: The only success they really had was Crystal Bowl, right?
- 31:11Speaker 1: And they fired him. They made a bowl last year. Oh, okay. Yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 3: T.Y.
- 31:14Speaker 1: Hilton way back in the day. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Meanwhile, FIU made national news when they had hired Lane Kiffin.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Won a conference.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Won a conference championship. And then they beat Navy last week,
- 31:24Speaker 2: which I thought was a pretty good win. Somebody on
- 31:27Speaker 2: the show, I don't know if it was Lance or
- 31:28Speaker 2: one of our Furman, somebody called FAU beating Navy.
- 31:31Speaker 1: That was Furman. He said he had two Moneyline plays,
- 31:34Speaker 1: Air Force.
- 31:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 31:36Speaker 5: We had a big play on FAU, too.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Yeah, FAU.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Ended up being our biggest play of the day Saturday.
- 31:41Speaker 1: Nice. Let's go next to Forrester.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Forrester looking to jump into an AI victory this week.
- 31:48Speaker 1: How are you doing, Forrester? I'm good.
- 31:50Speaker 6: I don't know if I'm going to get one because
- 31:52Speaker 6: I just didn't see anything that I loved.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Oh, no. Once again.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Scanned the board, didn't like it.
- 31:55Speaker 2: There were a lot of twos and threes that I liked,
- 31:58Speaker 2: but there were only three, three and a half couldn't play.
- 32:00Speaker 1: I've got to get to four and a half. So
- 32:02Speaker 1: what do you have? All right.
- 32:03Speaker 6: So we're going to Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
- 32:07Speaker 6: We got the Virginia Cavaliers taking on Rich Rod and
- 32:10Speaker 6: the Mountaineers. We got a little mascot fight going on here.
- 32:14Speaker 4: Wow.
- 32:14Speaker 6: I couldn't shoot the Cavaliers. So, you know, we're just
- 32:17Speaker 6: going to kill him.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Just want to beat it. They wouldn't allow you to
- 32:20Speaker 1: get him with his mouth. Yeah. Does AI not allow it?
- 32:22Speaker 1: Burn the couch. Take a swig. Yeah.
- 32:27Speaker 6: The Mountaineers plus nine and a half.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Mountain bourbon there. Yeah. Yeah. Don't don't waste it all.
- 32:33Speaker 3: Right. Rich Rod.
- 32:34Speaker 1: This should be.
- 32:35Speaker 5: A fun game.
- 32:36Speaker 1: You think so?
- 32:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:38Speaker 1: I mean, I look, I think Virginia is a better team,
- 32:39Speaker 1: but West Virginia is.
- 32:40Speaker 3: I mean, 2-0.
- 32:42Speaker 1: And they look more like.
- 32:43Speaker 5: Rich Rod circa 2007.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Fun atmosphere.
- 32:44Speaker 5: It's in Charlotte.
- 32:50Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 32:51Speaker 6: Especially if Rich Rod's burning couch.
- 32:52Speaker 1: No, Charlotte's selling games out now. Or, I mean, Virginia's
- 32:55Speaker 1: selling games out now.
- 32:56Speaker 3: So hopefully.
- 32:57Speaker 1: It's in actual Charlotte, North Carolina. I know, but Virginia's
- 32:59Speaker 1: selling games out now. If you'll let me finish the sentence.
- 33:01Speaker 1: So hopefully they'll travel to this. You know West Virginia
- 33:04Speaker 1: fans will travel. They played Tennessee and Charlotte a couple
- 33:07Speaker 1: years ago. Took the stadium over. I really do wish
- 33:09Speaker 1: it was a home field for one of those.
- 33:11Speaker 3: No, I agree.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I agree completely. I wish it was in Morgantown. That
- 33:13Speaker 1: would be the most fun atmosphere.
- 33:15Speaker 7: Virginia have two neutral site games originally scheduled this year,
- 33:18Speaker 7: or was this one?
- 33:19Speaker 1: Brazil and Charlotte, yeah.
- 33:21Speaker 5: I don't know if you know this, Brooks, but it
- 33:23Speaker 5: got hyped up when they hosted NC State. That was
- 33:25Speaker 5: their first sellout in 20 years.
- 33:28Speaker 1: I was just noting that it's kind of strange that
- 33:30Speaker 1: they originally had two neutral sites. Lance's point, why play
- 33:33Speaker 1: at home if nobody comes?
- 33:34Speaker 2: I'll go next so we can get the bandit in
- 33:37Speaker 2: here to replace Brownie. I'm going to go to the
- 33:40Speaker 2: Thursday night game. Steve and Jelly threw three interceptions last
- 33:44Speaker 2: week I think he bounces back this week, and I'm
- 33:48Speaker 2: going to take Syracuse plus the 10.5 on Thursday night
- 33:52Speaker 2: against Pittsburgh. On the road, Syracuse is. Pitt struggled to
- 33:57Speaker 2: score against UCF. They only get 12 points in the
- 34:01Speaker 2: 12-7 win. So you've got a Pitt team that arguably
- 34:07Speaker 2: is right now an ACC championship game contender. I think
- 34:11Speaker 2: they hit a bump in the road. Steve Angelli, Syracuse.
- 34:15Speaker 2: I like Brown, the coach. And if they can get
- 34:19Speaker 2: a little running game from Tyleek Hill, something they could
- 34:22Speaker 2: not do last week, I think Syracuse can pull the upset.
- 34:26Speaker 2: I'm with Forrester. I didn't love a lot on the board.
- 34:28Speaker 2: I looked a little at West Virginia, a little at
- 34:30Speaker 2: Miami of Ohio. But in the end, I looked a
- 34:34Speaker 2: little at Colorado State, which was my second choice. It
- 34:36Speaker 2: was down to Syracuse or Colorado State. I couldn't really
- 34:39Speaker 2: nail the Colorado State logo, so I went with a
- 34:42Speaker 2: block S. I'll take Syracuse. plus the 10.5, I think
- 34:46Speaker 2: they bounce back this week and beat Pittsburgh on Thursday night.
- 34:50Speaker 5: Pitt is one of those, and you look at their
- 34:52Speaker 5: offense the first couple of weeks, you tease Pitt down
- 34:57Speaker 5: to a pick and maybe throw in a little Virginia
- 35:00Speaker 5: to pick against West Virginia, not going against you guys.
- 35:03Speaker 5: And then what was the final one? Oh, Duke in
- 35:07Speaker 5: a pick against Stanford at home. Not great teams, but
- 35:10Speaker 5: it looks pretty appealing.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Yeah, so just get three picks there and tease those
- 35:14Speaker 1: three teams down.
- 35:15Speaker 5: That would be a better play than your 15-team outright winners.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 35:20Speaker 2: The Bandits here with us in second place, 13.5 points
- 35:24Speaker 2: behind the leader.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Second place week two. Yeah, it's not second place at
- 35:27Speaker 1: the end of the season. I'd like to point that out.
- 35:29Speaker 1: And I was the only one that got a win
- 35:31Speaker 1: last week, right? Cover, a cover, not really a win. No,
- 35:33Speaker 1: we call it a win. We call it a win
- 35:34Speaker 1: in the bandit household. Although I do look for the
- 35:36Speaker 1: outright winners. I like to tell you when I've got
- 35:38Speaker 1: an outright winner, and I do this weekend. I have
- 35:40Speaker 1: got an outright winner this weekend. I am going to
- 35:42Speaker 1: go to a team that has been a feel-good story
- 35:46Speaker 1: in American tackle football this year. LSU? A feel-good story
- 35:50Speaker 1: in American tackle football this year. And everybody was a
- 35:53Speaker 1: fan of this team after week one. And everybody felt
- 35:56Speaker 1: sorry for this team after week one. So I started
- 35:58Speaker 1: to study this team a little bit. And they didn't
- 36:01Speaker 1: play anybody last week. So I was like, next time
- 36:03Speaker 1: I get a chance to go against this team, I'm
- 36:05Speaker 1: going to go against this team. You know why? You
- 36:07Speaker 1: know why I'm going against this team? Why? Because I
- 36:08Speaker 1: looked it up. They're coached by Lance Taylor. And I'm like,
- 36:11Speaker 1: that guy can't coach football. Lance Taylor. I watch him
- 36:14Speaker 1: every day.
- 36:16Speaker 3: Rice!
- 36:17Speaker 1: Give me the rice, fried or white. I don't care.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Give me the owls.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Plus nine and a half as they host Western Michigan.
- 36:26Speaker 1: You know who Western Michigan plays next week?
- 36:28Speaker 4: Who?
- 36:29Speaker 1: Boise State. You know what they're looking at? Boise State.
- 36:33Speaker 1: They got to go to Houston. Tens of people will
- 36:36Speaker 1: be at this game making all kinds of noise. And
- 36:39Speaker 1: rice plus the nine and a half. Woo! That's an owl.
- 36:44Speaker 1: What do you hear there, Jimmy D? That's an owl.
- 36:47Speaker 5: I tried to look ahead on Boise a couple of
- 36:49Speaker 5: weeks ago with Arkansas State.
- 36:50Speaker 1: How'd that go for you? Did not work out for me.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Hopefully it works out for you. It's going to work.
- 36:54Speaker 1: It's going to work this week. Rice plus nine. I
- 36:56Speaker 1: know everybody loves Western Michigan. I'm not here to make friends.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I'm here to make money. Tyler Johns, plus nine and
- 37:02Speaker 1: a half points in this game. We don't need them!
- 37:05Speaker 1: We don't need them! You know what that sounds like? Muddy.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Sounds like I'm getting off work.
- 37:11Speaker 5: I hope Rice can fill the team after body bag
- 37:14Speaker 5: they got against Notre Dame last week.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Bounce back game, Lance.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Bounce back.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Give me the English R Rice Owls plus nine to that.
- 37:21Speaker 2: It did feel like the start of your English R
- 37:24Speaker 2: and the middle, the heart of your English R got
- 37:26Speaker 2: a little big of a gap there. Is that the
- 37:28Speaker 2: correct gap spacing there?
- 37:29Speaker 1: That's where I put all the money. That's right in
- 37:32Speaker 1: the gap. He doesn't need the points and he doesn't
- 37:34Speaker 1: need the space. That's right. I don't need the space
- 37:36Speaker 1: or the points.
- 37:36Speaker 5: Do you have more money buried in your backyard or
- 37:38Speaker 5: safety deposit?
- 37:40Speaker 1: Backyard, but you don't know.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Where I live.
- 37:42Speaker 6: If we want to beat up on logos, I mean, Jim,
- 37:45Speaker 6: your ass is looking a little chunky.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Yeah, your ass is pregnant. Where's that small ass due?
- 37:51Speaker 1: It's Dan Lanning.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:53Speaker 1: That ass is Mike Elko. That's why I'm stuffing all
- 37:56Speaker 1: my money in that belly. No, it is.
- 37:58Speaker 5: It's a pregnant ass.
- 38:00Speaker 1: That thing's going to get birthed for the game. Once
- 38:03Speaker 1: you start drawing pre-show, sometimes you're just like, I'm just
- 38:06Speaker 1: going to roll with that. Just color it in. It'll
- 38:08Speaker 1: be fine. Going to color it in. I took it
- 38:10Speaker 1: home last night to draw it there last night since
- 38:12Speaker 1: everybody's trying to up their draw game, Lance.
- 38:15Speaker 3: And what?
- 38:17Speaker 5: I did mine in 10 minutes yesterday.
- 38:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:20Speaker 1: I mean, I wouldn't take yours home again because it
- 38:22Speaker 1: didn't work out for me. No, I took it home
- 38:23Speaker 1: and didn't draw it. I brought it back just as
- 38:25Speaker 1: blank as I took it home. The betting favorite in
- 38:28Speaker 1: the back is that I was going to take the
- 38:29Speaker 1: board home and forget it at home. That would have
- 38:33Speaker 1: been perfect. That was going to be the betting favorite.
- 38:36Speaker 1: All right. That's our upset alert. So around the board,
- 38:39Speaker 1: we got FIU. We've got West Virginia. We've got Rice.
- 38:43Speaker 2: We've got Miami of Ohio, and we've got Syracuse. Play
- 38:47Speaker 2: at your own risk, but have a little fun there
- 38:50Speaker 2: with our friends at Hard Rock Bets. This is the
- 38:53Speaker 2: next round right here on Sport and State. Forrester will
- 38:56Speaker 2: not give me money to help out his Chicago White.
- 38:59Speaker 5: Sox, by the way.
- 39:00Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 39:01Speaker 2: I put a little wager last night on the Guardians
- 39:04Speaker 2: for him.
- 39:04Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 39:07Speaker 1: And the White Sox won.
- 39:09Speaker 2: And I said, hey, I think you should give me
- 39:10Speaker 2: a little cash so I can put some more money
- 39:12Speaker 2: on the Guardians tonight.
- 39:13Speaker 6: Hey, don't change anything, you know? I'm still wearing the jersey.
- 39:19Speaker 1: That's right.
- 39:20Speaker 3: You know?
- 39:21Speaker 2: Anybody notice that, that he's wearing the same clothes as
- 39:23Speaker 2: he wore yesterday?
- 39:25Speaker 6: I've got four of them.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I would not normally notice it, but that is a
- 39:28Speaker 1: very bold jersey. Yeah.
- 39:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Stand up real quick. Stand up real quick. I would
- 39:32Speaker 1: assume that you're superstitious. Yeah.
- 39:35Speaker 6: I am.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I am very superstitious. I am too.
- 39:38Speaker 3: Okay. Well, good for you.
- 39:39Speaker 2: I hope it keeps working. Braves and Cubs play again tonight.
- 39:42Speaker 2: Cubs a winner last night. Before we do our NFL
- 39:45Speaker 2: overreactions to wrap up, Our time here on Sporting State,
- 39:48Speaker 2: remember Brock Huard will join us on the next round
- 39:51Speaker 2: today to talk NFL and college football. He'll be with
- 39:54Speaker 2: us coming up at 12 Central. 1 Eastern, 12 Central
- 39:59Speaker 2: on the next round.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Tell us about XXXY. XXXY is a brand that started
- 40:04Speaker 1: a movement, a T, a T-shirt even, that started a movement,
- 40:07Speaker 1: they say. Founded by Jennifer Say, the former national champion gymnast,
- 40:10Speaker 1: former Levi's brand president, who walked away from a corporate
- 40:13Speaker 1: job rather than say something she did not believe in.
- 40:16Speaker 1: She started XXXY Athletics instead. The mission, in their words,
- 40:20Speaker 1: empower female athletes and take a stand for fair competition.
- 40:23Speaker 1: That's led to the tea that launched the movement. It
- 40:26Speaker 1: is real athletic apparel, not just some slogan on a shirt.
- 40:30Speaker 1: They've got performance tops. They've got tanks, sports bras, leggings, shorts,
- 40:34Speaker 1: training sets, hoodies, hats, and graphic tees, men's and women's clothing.
- 40:39Speaker 1: They have got the Nashville Balls clothing as well. Clay
- 40:42Speaker 1: Travis Future WNBA franchise. You can purchase that at XXXYAthletics.com.
- 40:48Speaker 1: New customers get 20% off your first order when you
- 40:50Speaker 1: sign up. Free shipping over $ 100. XXXYAthletics.com. That is XX-XYAthletics.com.
- 40:59Speaker 1: All right, let's do overreactions. We'll just take one and
- 41:03Speaker 1: we'll pass it along to the next guy. I will
- 41:06Speaker 1: go first. I will say I'll go Sean Payton should
- 41:10Speaker 1: take back over play calling at Denver after what I
- 41:12Speaker 1: saw last night. Overreaction there for me. What do you think?
- 41:17Speaker 5: I mean, it looked terrible last night. I mean, again,
- 41:21Speaker 5: we've talked about this when your forte is calling plays
- 41:25Speaker 5: and dissecting as well as anybody's done it the last
- 41:28Speaker 5: 25 years. Why you give it to 31-year-old Davis Webb
- 41:32Speaker 5: doesn't make a lot of sense, but We'll see if
- 41:35Speaker 5: it gets better. I don't necessarily think that's an overreaction, though.
- 41:38Speaker 5: Their offense looked.
- 41:38Speaker 3: Terrible last night.
- 41:39Speaker 1: It looked awful. Give me one. Give me an overreaction
- 41:41Speaker 1: from week one.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Overreaction from week one. The Chargers and this Mike McDaniel
- 41:48Speaker 5: offense won't work. When Justin Herbert threw his first touchdown,
- 41:52Speaker 5: I forgot who was on the broadcast. But he was like,
- 41:56Speaker 5: you know what, this might be Daniels really going to
- 41:58Speaker 5: open things up for Justin Herbert. I mean, in game.
- 42:02Speaker 5: I think it was, you know, the crazy thing, if
- 42:04Speaker 5: you would have switched uniforms, if the Rams were the
- 42:07Speaker 5: Cardinals and they had that, people would be like, oh,
- 42:09Speaker 5: my God, look what they did to the Chargers. But
- 42:11Speaker 5: because it's the Cardinals, it's like the Chargers are done.
- 42:14Speaker 5: I think there is something with this Cardinals team. If
- 42:17Speaker 5: Brissette can play mistake free. They've got a couple of
- 42:20Speaker 5: playmakers led by Trey McBride. Jeremiah Love's going to be really,
- 42:23Speaker 5: really good. But I think the overreaction right now is
- 42:25Speaker 5: the Chargers aren't good.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Give me one.
- 42:28Speaker 1: The Bears are going to be the highest scoring offense
- 42:30Speaker 1: in NFL history.
- 42:32Speaker 3: I agree.
- 42:33Speaker 5: That will not happen.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I think there's just a chance the Panthers don't have
- 42:36Speaker 1: a very good defense. But, I mean, I do think
- 42:39Speaker 1: the Bears have a dynamic offense. Don't get me wrong.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I think this offense could be really, really good, and
- 42:43Speaker 1: they're a handful. But let's see it a couple weeks
- 42:46Speaker 1: before we start talking about the 1,000-point threshold that Ben
- 42:50Speaker 1: Johnson wants to reach um I will go off of
- 42:54Speaker 1: that I'll say the Texas defense is going to suck
- 42:57Speaker 1: this year you think oh you're saying that's the overreaction
- 43:00Speaker 1: that the Texas defense is going to suck this year I.
- 43:02Speaker 5: Don't judge anything that has to do with Josh Allen
- 43:06Speaker 5: Josh Allen makes all defenses look pedestrian I.
- 43:08Speaker 1: Think our boy Orlovsky said it was the best he
- 43:11Speaker 1: had ever seen him play oh Josh Allen the best
- 43:14Speaker 1: Josh wow best Josh Allen he had seen I mean,
- 43:17Speaker 1: he backed it up with his, that.
- 43:19Speaker 5: Is a, an elite defense and to go on the
- 43:23Speaker 5: road and to do what Josh Allen did. I mean,
- 43:25Speaker 5: it didn't surprise me.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Give me another one. If you have one, um, I will.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Go with the New York jets. I mean, look, I
- 43:36Speaker 5: know it's, it is an upgrade with Gino Smith, a quarterback,
- 43:41Speaker 5: Breece Hall. I'm a big fan. Garrett Wilson, I'm a
- 43:43Speaker 5: big fan, but I just don't think Aaron Glenn and,
- 43:46Speaker 5: The Geno Smith combination is going to win a lot
- 43:48Speaker 5: of games. So it was a nice week one win
- 43:51Speaker 5: on the road, but it was also against the Titans.
- 43:53Speaker 5: I think the Jets are still going to be a
- 43:55Speaker 5: 6-11 type team, 5-12.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Uh cowboys are done pack it in on the cowboys
- 44:02Speaker 1: same old cowboys i'm not quite ready to do that
- 44:04Speaker 1: i think the giants are a really good football team
- 44:06Speaker 1: and the defense showed some it did it did but
- 44:09Speaker 1: i mean issues you know the giants i think jackson
- 44:12Speaker 1: tart's playing really good football scataboo is kind of a
- 44:15Speaker 1: unicorn in this league malik neighbor is back i mean
- 44:18Speaker 1: that's i think that's actually a really good.
- 44:19Speaker 5: Giant no it's a really good team and you know
- 44:21Speaker 5: unfortunately the rams host them on monday night where everybody's
- 44:24Speaker 5: like a hornet's nest for the giants i I don't
- 44:26Speaker 5: think those guys care. I don't think the moment's too big. Now,
- 44:29Speaker 5: are they good enough to go on the road to
- 44:31Speaker 5: SoFi and do what they did against Dallas?
- 44:33Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 44:34Speaker 5: They're seven and a half point underdogs, but I would
- 44:36Speaker 5: think the world is, well, the world would probably be
- 44:38Speaker 5: on the Giants actually.
- 44:40Speaker 1: Probably so. Probably so. Which you won't, right?
- 44:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 44:43Speaker 2: I will tell you this, um, with my team and
- 44:46Speaker 2: I don't believe this, but I saw a lot of
- 44:48Speaker 2: this in my social media because I'm a Buccaneers fan. Um,
- 44:53Speaker 2: A lot of people were overreacting instantly after the loss
- 44:56Speaker 2: at Cincinnati that we shouldn't have extended Baker Mayfield.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 1: And, I mean, the guy played his heart out. He
- 45:03Speaker 1: fumbled a couple of times.
- 45:04Speaker 5: He fumbled three times.
- 45:05Speaker 1: While he was trying to make plays. I think his
- 45:07Speaker 1: best days are behind him, in my opinion. I mean,
- 45:09Speaker 1: I saw that kind of– So you wouldn't call that
- 45:11Speaker 1: an overreaction then? I would not call that an overreaction.
- 45:13Speaker 1: You know the film I saw today that is– It's
- 45:16Speaker 1: not a big concern yet, but the Reuben Bain film
- 45:19Speaker 1: is not great. Some of the film study guys are
- 45:23Speaker 1: being really critical. They're like, in Miami, the guy was
- 45:26Speaker 1: fast enough to run past the tackle. You don't do
- 45:29Speaker 1: that in the NFL. The tackles are good in the NFL.
- 45:31Speaker 1: And they're showing video of him not using any moves,
- 45:35Speaker 1: no swim moves, nothing like that. He's just trying to
- 45:37Speaker 1: run past the tackle. And every time, the tackle's either
- 45:40Speaker 1: stoning him or just pushing him out of the play.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And they're like, Reuben Bain's a little undersized. That was
- 45:45Speaker 1: always the knock on him. Yeah, and he's got the
- 45:46Speaker 1: short arms. And if he thinks he's just going to
- 45:48Speaker 1: line up and run past NFL tackles, he's not going
- 45:50Speaker 1: to do that in the NFL.
- 45:51Speaker 5: Well, another overreaction would be Green Bay and the complete
- 45:54Speaker 5: fourth quarter meltdown. You know, it's not going to get
- 45:57Speaker 5: the same kind of play that Texas, Ohio State probably
- 46:01Speaker 5: because that was a much bigger stage. but Green Bay,
- 46:05Speaker 5: I think they're going to be okay. They haven't won
- 46:07Speaker 5: without Micah Parsons. They've lost seven straight games now, but
- 46:11Speaker 5: they can win without Micah Parsons. They do need to
- 46:13Speaker 5: go on the road and beat the Jets this week
- 46:15Speaker 5: as four-point favorites, but I think we are overreacting a
- 46:19Speaker 5: little bit. I mean, that was a terrible meltdown, terrible penalties,
- 46:22Speaker 5: some bad calls from the officials, and really a bad
- 46:26Speaker 5: call from Matt LaFleur going forward on that fourth and one,
- 46:28Speaker 5: not taking the points off the boards.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Do you have any more? I'm overreacted. I've reacted.
- 46:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Everybody's got their overreactions out there.
- 46:35Speaker 2: We do an NFL power ranking, five best, five worst
- 46:41Speaker 2: every week. I would imagine at some point the five
- 46:43Speaker 2: best and the five worst will settle into a rut
- 46:47Speaker 2: in the NFL, but so far, not yet. Brought to
- 46:50Speaker 2: you by our friends at Hard Rock Bets. Let's look
- 46:52Speaker 2: at our weekly power ranking in the National Football League.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Oh, we got them individually.
- 46:57Speaker 5: I thought it was a vote here.
- 46:59Speaker 2: For me, I'm going Seahawks. You've got to beat the
- 47:02Speaker 2: champions to beat the champs. I have no problem with
- 47:05Speaker 2: the Rams yet. I've got the Rams 2, Bills 3,
- 47:08Speaker 2: 49ers 4. That's three teams in one division, yes. And
- 47:12Speaker 2: I throw the Chiefs in there at 5, reacting to
- 47:14Speaker 2: last night. My five worst teams, the Commanders, the Jets,
- 47:18Speaker 2: the Titans, the Browns, and I'm going to put the
- 47:20Speaker 2: Dolphins dead last. Lance, give me your top five.
- 47:24Speaker 5: Well, we got my bottom five in the wrong direction.
- 47:26Speaker 5: That was probably on me. But my top five, San Francisco.
- 47:29Speaker 1: I was about to say, you're higher on my dolphins
- 47:31Speaker 1: than most. I thought San Francisco looked fantastic.
- 47:34Speaker 5: Again, Seattle with Sam Darnold being a little nicked up.
- 47:38Speaker 5: I don't think they're going to be as good, but
- 47:40Speaker 5: I've still got to put them up top. The Bills,
- 47:42Speaker 5: what Josh Allen's able to do. I was very impressed
- 47:45Speaker 5: with the Ravens offense. And then the Bears.
- 47:49Speaker 1: I got them at number five, but mine should be
- 47:51Speaker 1: flipped around.
- 47:52Speaker 5: Should be the Falcons at 28, Commanders at 29, Browns 30,
- 47:57Speaker 5: Titans 31, and Dolphins 30.
- 48:01Speaker 1: I'm sorry about that, Lance. You did list them one
- 48:03Speaker 1: through five, Miami, Titans, Browns, Commanders, Falcons.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:07Speaker 2: That's the way I was going to do mine first,
- 48:09Speaker 2: and then I was like, well, so I think I
- 48:11Speaker 2: ended up going 28, 29, 30, 31, 32.
- 48:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the way I'll put it next. Because I
- 48:16Speaker 1: got confused, too. At first, I was like, I had
- 48:18Speaker 1: the Dolphins one, and I was like, well, if he
- 48:21Speaker 1: puts it in that order, then. So I flipped it around.
- 48:23Speaker 1: I was confused.
- 48:25Speaker 5: I think a lot of people overreact. Nobody overreacts as
- 48:27Speaker 5: Moore's Brown, though.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Can I just tell you?
- 48:30Speaker 5: I mean, you had LSU number one last week.
- 48:32Speaker 1: They won.
- 48:32Speaker 5: Bears won big.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Can I tip my cap to Lance first?
- 48:36Speaker 3: What?
- 48:37Speaker 2: Because this was Lance's idea to do an NFL power
- 48:40Speaker 2: ranking every week. And I told the guys in the
- 48:43Speaker 2: back yesterday, before the Monday night game, I said, I
- 48:46Speaker 2: think Lance came up with this idea because he's going
- 48:48Speaker 2: to put all four of the NFC South teams in
- 48:51Speaker 2: his bottom five. So I thought your bottom five would
- 48:55Speaker 2: be Bucs, Falcons, Panthers, and Saints, and the Dolphins.
- 49:01Speaker 5: I do think Carolina's defense is not that bad. They
- 49:04Speaker 5: did get exposed, but I thought Bryce Young looked really,
- 49:09Speaker 5: really good. I thought Tyler Shuck in the second half looked.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Really, really good. I was prepared, though. Brooks and Forster
- 49:15Speaker 1: will tell you, I was back there. I was like,
- 49:18Speaker 1: I was throwing mine together, and I was like, Lance
- 49:20Speaker 1: is going to have all the NFC South and the Dolphins.
- 49:23Speaker 1: That's going to be his bottom five. Okay, give me yours, Brown.
- 49:26Speaker 1: I did go with the Bears at the top. I mean,
- 49:28Speaker 1: how do you not? Guys, they were dominant. A dominant
- 49:31Speaker 1: win at Carolina. Scored all those points. Could LSU beat
- 49:34Speaker 1: the Bears?
- 49:35Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 49:35Speaker 1: LSU beat Bears would be a fun game. 49ers, I
- 49:39Speaker 1: was very impressed with what they did to the Rams
- 49:40Speaker 1: down in Australia. Kind of gets forgotten because it feels
- 49:42Speaker 1: like a month ago they played, honestly. uh bills look
- 49:45Speaker 1: man that's what they do they win close games and
- 49:48Speaker 1: they did it on the road against a tough defense
- 49:50Speaker 1: and a place that they had not won in a
- 49:51Speaker 1: very long time seahawks uh the champs still the champs
- 49:54Speaker 1: and i like what the ravens did in week one
- 49:56Speaker 1: my bottom five i know the raiders won the game
- 49:59Speaker 1: but just i probably watched more of that than anybody
- 50:01Speaker 1: because they were playing my dolphins um i just don't
- 50:05Speaker 1: know that long-term kirk cousins is going to have you
- 50:08Speaker 1: that good he was picking on a I'm not ready
- 50:14Speaker 1: to buy into this Raiders team just yet. Damn, you
- 50:16Speaker 1: got the Cardinals 29? They're still not great. I know
- 50:19Speaker 1: they wanted the Chargers, but this Cardinals team is still
- 50:21Speaker 1: not good. The Browns, Titans, and Dolphins are the easiest ones.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Are they 29 bad? Yes.
- 50:27Speaker 4: Yes.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Wait until you see the rest of the season. I
- 50:29Speaker 1: think we'll.
- 50:30Speaker 5: Have a little fluctuation on our top and bottom five
- 50:32Speaker 5: next week.
- 50:35Speaker 1: Brown, as much as you overreact on winners, you've got
- 50:38Speaker 1: two 1-0 teams in your bottom five. Yeah, wait to
- 50:41Speaker 1: see if I'm right, though. Can I not be right
- 50:43Speaker 1: at the end of the year? Larry Zaka, God rest
- 50:45Speaker 1: his soul, can't pop a champagne bottle on the Cardinals
- 50:49Speaker 1: and Raiders yet.
- 50:50Speaker 5: Yeah, it's amazing. We've all three got different teams at
- 50:53Speaker 5: the top, but we all three agree the Dolphins are
- 50:56Speaker 5: the worst.
- 50:56Speaker 1: I mean, how could you not?
- 50:59Speaker 2: That is the case so far. All right, that's our
- 51:01Speaker 2: Power Ranking brought to you by our friends at Hard

- 51:17Speaker 2: listening to the show. Final thought to get away out
- 51:20Speaker 2: of here is an NFL thought. And this came, I believe,
- 51:25Speaker 2: from Yahoo Sports that showed this to me. Two different
- 51:28Speaker 2: things from Yahoo. One of them, first time ever, I think,
- 51:33Speaker 2: they said that the 16 outcomes in the opening week
- 51:37Speaker 2: of the NFL were were all decided by 16 different
- 51:42Speaker 2: point margins.
- 51:43Speaker 1: There was a one-point victory, a two-point victory. Rams were
- 51:46Speaker 1: a 20-point victory, but there was no duplication. There were
- 51:48Speaker 1: 16 different. There weren't two threes or sevens? That is crazy.
- 51:53Speaker 1: That's impossible. 16 different point margins of victory.
- 51:58Speaker 5: The first one was a three-point margin last Wednesday night
- 52:01Speaker 5: with the Seahawks over the Patriots.
- 52:03Speaker 3: Rams 26-1-13.
- 52:04Speaker 5: You're right, 18.
- 52:07Speaker 1: I think it was Yahoo. Eagles-Commanders was a one-point game.
- 52:11Speaker 1: And so was Minnesota and New Orleans. I can't be right.
- 52:13Speaker 1: Weren't they both one-point games? Lions and Saints 31-30. Two-point
- 52:18Speaker 1: were Eagles and Commanders. Three-point Seahawks and Patriots. Five was
- 52:22Speaker 1: the Bills and the Texans. Six was Bengals-Bucks. Seven, Steelers-Falcons. Eight, Giants-Cowboys.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Twelve, Cardinals-Chargers. Thirteen, Jets and Titans. 14 Raiders and Dolphins,
- 52:34Speaker 2: 17 Vikings and Packers, 18 Ravens and Colts, 20 49ers
- 52:39Speaker 2: and Rams, 21 Chiefs and Broncos, 22 Bears and Panthers,
- 52:43Speaker 2: and 24 Jaguars and Browns.
- 52:45Speaker 1: That is really impossible. Yeah, that's crazy.
- 52:47Speaker 5: But you've got to.
- 52:47Speaker 1: Have somebody looking at that going, you know what?
- 52:50Speaker 5: All those scores were different.
- 52:51Speaker 3: I know.
- 52:51Speaker 1: I don't know how you come up with those. Stat
- 52:53Speaker 1: guru Lee Sharpe. is the first person to notice that.
- 52:57Speaker 1: Good job. Right after the Monday Night Football. It's just
- 52:59Speaker 1: hard to believe you don't have a bunch of threes
- 53:01Speaker 1: and sevens. It's such a common score, you know. And
- 53:03Speaker 1: also from Yahoo, Jalen Hurts is unbeaten in season openers
- 53:10Speaker 1: when he is the starter. 2017 at Alabama, 24-7 over
- 53:12Speaker 1: Florida State. 2019 at Oklahoma, 49-31 over Houston.
- 53:20Speaker 2: And in six years as the starting quarterback for Philadelphia,
- 53:23Speaker 2: they are 6-0.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Wow. In opening games. I mean, if he had started
- 53:28Speaker 1: against that USC team, he would have done the same
- 53:31Speaker 1: exact thing.
- 53:31Speaker 5: He would have.
- 53:32Speaker 2: So, crazy stat from Jalen Hurts there from Yahoo Sports.
- 53:36Speaker 2: All right, that's our show here on Sporting State. Clay
- 53:39Speaker 2: and Buck are next right here on Sporting State. You
- 53:42Speaker 2: can go back after you enjoy Clay and Buck and
