- 1:47Speaker 1: radio replays from Thursday night's win in Baltimore. It is
- 1:52Speaker 1: Thanksgiving night in Baltimore and Cincinnati Bengals fans are counting
- 1:57Speaker 1: their blessings to have a quarterback who is is obsessed
- 2:01Speaker 1: with being the best in the game, obsessed with leading
- 2:04Speaker 1: his teammates, and obsessed with ultimately winning a Super Bowl. Tonight,
- 2:10Speaker 1: that quarterback, Joe Burrow, is back as the Bengals take
- 2:13Speaker 1: on the Baltimore Ravens in a primetime showdown here at
- 2:18Speaker 1: M and T Bank Stadium. Here's a toss sweep to
- 2:21Speaker 1: the left to the twenty fifteen ten five touchdown. The
- 2:27Speaker 1: King Derrick Henry goes twenty eight yards for the game's
- 2:31Speaker 1: first touchdown. Cincinnati's showing pressure. On third down and nine,
- 2:36Speaker 1: they send five Lamar Jackson from the pocket. He is
- 2:40Speaker 1: hit and he goes down. The ball comes out and
- 2:44Speaker 1: the Bengals recover inside the five.
- 2:47Speaker 2: About it.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Joseph Osai punched it out and Cedric Johnson recovered. The
- 2:53Speaker 1: Bengals will have it inside the five. They're gonna spot
- 2:57Speaker 1: it around the three yard line. Jackson catches a shot
- 3:00Speaker 1: gun snap from the pocket, inches up, now throws and
- 3:03Speaker 1: it is caught on the run at the thirty twenty
- 3:05Speaker 1: five twenty likely to the ten, the five to the
- 3:08Speaker 1: end zone. Touchdown. Baltimore forty three yards on a short
- 3:14Speaker 1: crossing route to tight end Isaiah Likely.
- 3:18Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. Danny came underneath and came all the way
- 3:21Speaker 3: across the football field, and boy, he lost control of
- 3:24Speaker 3: the football before he crossed the goal line.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Shotgun snap to Burrow, fakes to Chase Brown. He's gonna
- 3:30Speaker 1: fling it deep down the field for Jamar Chase. What
- 3:33Speaker 1: a catch over the shoulder, blanketed by Marlin Humphrey. One
- 3:37Speaker 1: man on the face of the earth can make that
- 3:40Speaker 1: catch and his name is Jamar Chase. Forty three yards.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And Humphrey can't believe it.
- 3:46Speaker 1: This will be a twenty four yard field goal try
- 3:48Speaker 1: from the right hash Evan McPherson looking for his third
- 3:51Speaker 1: field goal of the half. Wagner ready to snap it
- 3:54Speaker 1: back now the right footed kick and the Bengals have
- 3:57Speaker 1: the lead. Joe is ready catches the shotgun snap, he
- 4:00Speaker 1: begins scrambling right. Burrow throwing downfield for Hudson.
- 4:03Speaker 2: He's got it.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Wow, touchdown Bengals. What an adjustment to the ball by
- 4:09Speaker 1: Hudson and he knocks over the back right pylon for
- 4:13Speaker 1: a fourteen yard touchdown. Joe Burrows first since returning from
- 4:18Speaker 1: the toe injury. Here's a toss to the right, Mitchell
- 4:21Speaker 1: running to the five to the goal line, touchdown Ravens.
- 4:25Speaker 1: The Bengals flowed in the wrong direction and when they
- 4:28Speaker 1: pitched it to the speedy Keaton Mitchell, there was nobody
- 4:32Speaker 1: home to bring him down. Burrowing the shotgun p rind
- 4:34Speaker 1: to his right. Shotgun snap, Joe under pressure, flings it
- 4:38Speaker 1: down the middle of the field. Yo see Bosh leaps
- 4:41Speaker 1: at the three and takes it into the end zone
- 4:44Speaker 1: a twenty eight yard touchdown to Andre Yo Siebosh and
- 4:50Speaker 1: the Bengals lead is back to eleven with a pat
- 4:53Speaker 1: coming up. Huge play here third and nine at the
- 4:56Speaker 1: Cincinnati fifteen. The Bengals showing pressure. They've got seven guys
- 4:59Speaker 1: up on the line. Lamar drops back. Lamar throws downfield,
- 5:03Speaker 1: tip intercepted Patrius Knight running it back. He's at the
- 5:07Speaker 1: thirty thirty five forty spin move there and tackled around
- 5:11Speaker 1: the forty five yard line. A tip at the line
- 5:14Speaker 1: results in a pick for Dimitrius Night and the Bengals
- 5:18Speaker 1: get their fourth takeaway and Night runs it back thirty
- 5:22Speaker 1: six yards. Shotgun snapped to Lamar, Ravens operating quickly. Sideim
- 5:26Speaker 1: throw caught by Zay Flowers loses the ball. The Bengals
- 5:30Speaker 1: scoop it up. CJ. Turner runs it to the thirty six.
- 5:34Speaker 1: A fumble recovered by Cincinnati, and that is coffin nails.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Bam, bam, bam.
- 5:43Speaker 1: This will be field goal trying number six from forty
- 5:46Speaker 1: one yards out. Wagner's snap Pato Rico and Moneymax kick
- 5:51Speaker 1: is on its way and it is good, his sixth
- 5:55Speaker 1: of the game. The Bengals have scored thirty two points
- 5:58Speaker 1: on the road in Baltimore and have a thirty two
- 6:01Speaker 1: to fourteen lead with one six to go, and that
- 6:06Speaker 1: was the final score as Joe Burrow returns to the
- 6:09Speaker 1: lineup with the Bengals listed as a seven point underdog
- 6:12Speaker 1: and leaves Baltimore with an eighteen point win.
- 6:16Speaker 4: There's no better feeling than that, you know, putting in,
- 6:19Speaker 4: putting in work for for a long time and going
- 6:23Speaker 4: out and in it paying off. It's uh, there's.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Just just this. There's just no feeling like going.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Out in front of the world with a group of
- 6:35Speaker 4: guys that work really hard to go try to win
- 6:38Speaker 4: games and going out and putting on a good performance
- 6:41Speaker 4: and winning that game. You know, obviously we got a
- 6:43Speaker 4: lot of games left, but we're gonna enjoy this one
- 6:46Speaker 4: on this on this little mini by weekend, and everybody's
- 6:49Speaker 4: going to go and have Thanksgiving with their families and
- 6:53Speaker 4: smile and eat and feel.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Good about it.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Certainly hasn't been easy on me through through six years
- 7:02Speaker 4: from a lot of different angles, but you know, I've
- 7:05Speaker 4: worked really hard to put myself in position to be
- 7:08Speaker 4: back out there, and a lot of people around me
- 7:10Speaker 4: have done the same. And I've just been a lot
- 7:14Speaker 4: of discussions and a lot of time in the training
- 7:16Speaker 4: room and It's just a lot, a lot that has
- 7:19Speaker 4: gone into this and you know, I'm proud to be done.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Burrow finished twenty four for forty six for two hundred
- 7:25Speaker 1: and sixty one yards, with two touchdowns, no picks, only
- 7:29Speaker 1: one sack, and a passer rating of eighty three point seven.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Chase Brown had seventy eight rushing yards and thirty five
- 7:36Speaker 1: receiving yards for a total of one thirteen, his sixth
- 7:41Speaker 1: straight game with one hundred or more scrimmage yards. That's
- 7:44Speaker 1: a new team record. Jamar Chase had seven catches for
- 7:48Speaker 1: one hundred and ten yards, and Burrow's touchdown passes went
- 7:51Speaker 1: to andre Yosi Vash and Tanner Hudson. I caught up
- 7:55Speaker 1: with Hudson in front of his locker. Tanner happy, Thanksgiving
- 8:00Speaker 1: grats on the touchdown catch. What a night for everybody
- 8:04Speaker 1: on this team. You talk about a team victory, Christ
- 8:06Speaker 1: would be Epitomi.
- 8:07Speaker 5: Oh, it really was. I mean all around, having having
- 8:11Speaker 5: go back the way you know, we just rallied around,
- 8:15Speaker 5: rally around everybody, the way the defense play to night.
- 8:18Speaker 5: It's a really really good.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Win for this team.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Uh, just how this season has went, it feels really good.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Can you quantify what Joe's return did for the team
- 8:28Speaker 1: just in terms of lifting everybody's spirits and energy level.
- 8:32Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, when you got a guy that's arguably
- 8:34Speaker 5: the best quarterback in the league, I think it's gonna
- 8:37Speaker 5: elevate everybody's play, whether whether you're thinking about it or not.
- 8:41Speaker 5: So I'm bringing someone with someone like that back. Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 5: it made a whole lot of team all right.
- 8:47Speaker 1: So you came back to Baltimore tonight last year on
- 8:51Speaker 1: two point conversion at the end of the game, they
- 8:53Speaker 1: went to you.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Unfortunately it didn't work out.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Could have been about six penalties called on the play.
- 8:58Speaker 1: None were You come back and make a spectacular touchdown catch.
- 9:02Speaker 1: Describe to play and what that moment meant.
- 9:05Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, I mean third and nine. You know, it's
- 9:08Speaker 5: a play that we worked on this week, and going
- 9:12Speaker 5: through my head, I just had certain ways I knew
- 9:14Speaker 5: I wanted to run it, and the guys a look
- 9:16Speaker 5: that I wanted. Joe put up a great ball that
- 9:20Speaker 5: really only I could catch and you know, coming down
- 9:22Speaker 5: with it and kind of giving an extra spark to
- 9:25Speaker 5: the team, and I felt really good.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Joe was good. I feel like he's just going to
- 9:30Speaker 1: keep getting better. Considering that he missed nine games with.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It pretty remarkable.
- 9:34Speaker 1: How he did the first night back.
- 9:38Speaker 5: It is remarkable, But it's also he I think he
- 9:42Speaker 5: is the best quarterback league. So I think for him
- 9:45Speaker 5: that's probably his standard is just a beat great and
- 9:48Speaker 5: that's what he came out here he did.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Do you guys feel like you're back in the hunt
- 9:52Speaker 1: but still.
- 9:52Speaker 5: In the hunts? Oh, we're never This team has never
- 9:55Speaker 5: out of it. This team the way that we like
- 9:58Speaker 5: Zach always says, the way that we come to pract
- 10:00Speaker 5: is the way we are in the building.
- 10:02Speaker 2: There's there's no.
- 10:03Speaker 5: Quid in the team and we're just going to continue
- 10:05Speaker 5: to push and win games.
- 10:07Speaker 1: This again did it in one of the biggest spotlight
- 10:12Speaker 1: nights that the NFL has, the Thanksgiving night national TV.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Everybody in the country of the world is watching this one.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Does that make it a little extra special?
- 10:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's always fun to play. I mean,
- 10:23Speaker 5: to be able to play on Thanksgiving.
- 10:25Speaker 2: The night game.
- 10:26Speaker 5: You know, everybody's stuff sitting on the couch and they
- 10:29Speaker 5: got the game on, whether they're asleep or actually watching it.
- 10:33Speaker 5: But yeah, it's to come out in front of the
- 10:35Speaker 5: whole world and put on that kind of performance as
- 10:37Speaker 5: a team. Yeah, that's what you want.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Congrat some spectacular touchdown, catching a great win.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Appreciate it.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Then there's the Bengals defense. It's not enough to say
- 10:49Speaker 1: the defense has been much maligned. They've been mocked and ridiculed.
- 10:53Speaker 1: But for the third straight week, the Bengals held the
- 10:56Speaker 1: other team's offense under twenty one points, and the fourteen
- 11:00Speaker 1: scored by the Ravens is the fewest Cincinnati has given
- 11:03Speaker 1: up all year. Five takeaways was the big key, and
- 11:08Speaker 1: a strip sack by Joseph Osai was the first. Joseph Osai,
- 11:14Speaker 1: what a knight. Two sacks, four quarterback hits, a force pumble.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I thought it was the best game of your NFL career.
- 11:21Speaker 1: How are you feeling right now?
- 11:23Speaker 6: Feeling great, Very thankful for these guys, thankful to God
- 11:27Speaker 6: most importantly, very thankful for my teammates, Thankful that you know,
- 11:31Speaker 6: it's been it's been a rough couple of weeks, but
- 11:33Speaker 6: they come to word every day and there's no quick
- 11:35Speaker 6: there's no nobody's checked out, and it's it's it's beautiful
- 11:39Speaker 6: to see it come to for tuition.
- 11:40Speaker 2: Like that on the field.
- 11:41Speaker 1: For sure, it's been a challenging year for the defense.
- 11:43Speaker 1: What's it mean to do it in this circumstance? Thanksgiving night?
- 11:48Speaker 1: Everybody watching a great team on the other side.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Uh, he's the world means the world.
- 11:53Speaker 2: It has been a challenging here. It's to me more
- 11:56Speaker 2: specific job, challenging a few leagues.
- 11:59Speaker 6: But you know, we're we're in a bucker mentality right now.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Shut up the outside noise.
- 12:04Speaker 6: Nobody but us, nobody but us.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Take this just like we took the last two weeks.
- 12:10Speaker 6: How he played the last two weeks and then use
- 12:12Speaker 6: at his momentum, keep going.
- 12:13Speaker 1: That's all five takeaways, including four bumbles. You guys work
- 12:17Speaker 1: on this stuff every day, Yeah tonight, like all that
- 12:20Speaker 1: extra work paid off.
- 12:21Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly, exactly, And it only takes one. Everybody knows
- 12:25Speaker 6: when it comes to football, they come in bunches. It
- 12:27Speaker 6: only takes one. And that's exactly what happened today.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And that's just.
- 12:31Speaker 6: Giving the younger guys hope to keep working at it
- 12:33Speaker 6: and keep working other things. You know, the club, Secure
- 12:36Speaker 6: the punch, the tip, get your hands up. If you're
- 12:39Speaker 6: not getting to the rest, gets your hands up. You
- 12:41Speaker 6: can tip a pass, change the game. And that's exactly
- 12:43Speaker 6: what happens. So it's good to see for.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Sure what effect did Burrow have on the entire team.
- 12:50Speaker 6: You know, you know what I know, that's Joe Burrs.
- 12:53Speaker 2: That's that's what they call him out there. You know,
- 12:56Speaker 2: his ice cold.
- 12:57Speaker 6: For him to be back right now is even so
- 13:02Speaker 6: that fight. You know, you could say the way our
- 13:05Speaker 6: we're we're we're progressing, the way our season is looking,
- 13:08Speaker 6: you can say it's it's it's easy for him to
- 13:10Speaker 6: you know what I mean, check out and not want
- 13:12Speaker 6: to not want to be here, and and and and
- 13:14Speaker 6: fight with us. Fun just seeing him come back, fight
- 13:17Speaker 6: through that and wanting to be here because he's a
- 13:18Speaker 6: football player, like he said, it's it's it's beautiful.
- 13:21Speaker 1: People joking say, well, he doesn't play defense, you can't
- 13:24Speaker 1: help the defense. But does he help the defense just
- 13:28Speaker 1: with his presence?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't.
- 13:33Speaker 6: When you when you see your brother defensive offense, when
- 13:35Speaker 6: you see your brother fighting, you know this game is
- 13:38Speaker 6: so beautiful in the in the senset, you go to war,
- 13:42Speaker 6: you go to war to the brother, to the to
- 13:44Speaker 6: the to the left and right of you, and defensive offense,
- 13:47Speaker 6: that team you see your brother going to war inspire
- 13:50Speaker 6: it inspire anybody, So it doesn't matter if he's not
- 13:53Speaker 6: on the defense.
- 13:54Speaker 2: You just see his heart. You see his heart you.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Want to go ball and and even more with within
- 14:00Speaker 6: the field.
- 14:00Speaker 2: So it's great. It's great having me back.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I would think that this would be really fun because
- 14:07Speaker 1: so many guys were involved. Offense, defense, Yeah, special teams.
- 14:12Speaker 1: I don't know how many game balls Zach handed out,
- 14:14Speaker 1: but it could have been.
- 14:14Speaker 3: A lot, yeah for sure.
- 14:16Speaker 2: And it was a beautiful team win for sure.
- 14:18Speaker 6: Topped the bottom when we needed them to get pinned,
- 14:22Speaker 6: when we needed them to get pin special teams did
- 14:24Speaker 6: exactly that. When we needed a score, offense did exactly that.
- 14:28Speaker 6: When we needed to stop, defense did exactly that. You know,
- 14:31Speaker 6: early in the game, Zach took a chance, he went
- 14:33Speaker 6: for it on fourth down. I said to the defense,
- 14:35Speaker 6: I said, that's trust.
- 14:38Speaker 2: That is trust. He trusts us. You know what I'm saying.
- 14:42Speaker 6: It was a turnover right there on the goal line,
- 14:44Speaker 6: and he went for it fourth You know what I'm saying.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Everybody in America, I'm pretty sure probably said that was
- 14:49Speaker 2: a terrible call.
- 14:50Speaker 6: But I said to the defense, that is trust, he
- 14:52Speaker 6: trusts us.
- 14:52Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, what are you gonna do
- 14:54Speaker 2: with that? So we were able to come up big
- 14:55Speaker 2: and get to stop and get off the field.
- 14:57Speaker 1: It's a fun night. Congratulations, an awesome performance. Happy thanks.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I appreciate that. Thank you.
- 15:03Speaker 1: The win improves the Bengals to four and eight and
- 15:05Speaker 1: ends a streak of four straight had to head losses
- 15:08Speaker 1: to the Ravens, and it came against Lamar Jackson, who
- 15:12Speaker 1: is now ten and two against Cincinnati. Dave Lapham spent
- 15:16Speaker 1: a few minutes with Zach Taylor after a very satisfying win.
- 15:22Speaker 3: We heard all the celebrating that was going on in
- 15:26Speaker 3: the locker room. Guys were letting their hair down big time.
- 15:29Speaker 3: It sounded. I mean, I remember what that was like.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I remember the feeling. Chado cho Cinco made a guest
- 15:35Speaker 3: appearance in the locker room through what was that like?
- 15:38Speaker 7: I didn't notice that. I saw him on the field
- 15:40Speaker 7: before the game and after the game. And we got
- 15:43Speaker 7: a lot of great former players here like yourself and
- 15:45Speaker 7: Chad o cho Cinco, and they're welcome anytime, and so
- 15:47Speaker 7: it was awesome for him to be around the team
- 15:49Speaker 7: and celebrate it. He made the trip all the way
- 15:51Speaker 7: out here. He deserves celebrated with the team.
- 15:53Speaker 3: What about Joe Burrow, I mean, this guy is special.
- 15:57Speaker 3: I mean, there's no I can't think of another tip
- 16:00Speaker 3: to use. He started to get a rhythm, He started
- 16:03Speaker 3: to really get a rhythm and a timing, and he
- 16:05Speaker 3: was playing very free, wasn't.
- 16:07Speaker 7: He He was? And not to stick away from that,
- 16:10Speaker 7: but our defense gave us the ability to do that.
- 16:12Speaker 7: Our defense gave him and our offense a chance to
- 16:14Speaker 7: really settle in and find our rhythm to really explore
- 16:18Speaker 7: there in the second half. And so Joe's done such
- 16:20Speaker 7: a great job handling as rehab, handling, the preparation for
- 16:23Speaker 7: this game gave us a lot of confidence. And then
- 16:25Speaker 7: to go out there and be able to play on
- 16:27Speaker 7: the road in difficult circumstances, I thought was awesome.
- 16:30Speaker 3: And number one, Jamar Chase has had big games against
- 16:32Speaker 3: the Baltimore Ravens as well, and Borrow to Chase, it
- 16:35Speaker 3: was just so good to see those guys number nine
- 16:37Speaker 3: to number one. It was good to see that connection again.
- 16:40Speaker 7: It is you know, Jamar's you wouldn't trade him for
- 16:42Speaker 7: any other receiver in the world. And he's so dependable
- 16:45Speaker 7: on some of those key third down plays when he
- 16:48Speaker 7: can get a one on one or even a two
- 16:49Speaker 7: on one, Joe's still going to take a shot at him,
- 16:51Speaker 7: and Jamar made some huge plays for us.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Drew Sample I thought stepped up big tonight. I mean,
- 16:56Speaker 3: he was effective as a blocker, and he also did
- 17:00Speaker 3: the heck of a job running routes and catching the
- 17:02Speaker 3: football for you. Move the chains a lot of first
- 17:04Speaker 3: downs on third down conversions. He played well, didn't he.
- 17:07Speaker 7: He does all the dirty work, you know, and appreciate
- 17:09Speaker 7: you mentioned that, because that's he doesn't do jobs that
- 17:12Speaker 7: people are ever going to notice in the stands watching
- 17:14Speaker 7: the game, But for coaches in our program and around
- 17:17Speaker 7: the league, it's known what he does and what role
- 17:20Speaker 7: he plays, and he's able to help us in protection.
- 17:24Speaker 7: He's able to help us in the run game. He's
- 17:26Speaker 7: able to play running back for us on some downs
- 17:27Speaker 7: and protection he got to check down got us forward.
- 17:30Speaker 7: So again we we appreciate drewd He does a great
- 17:32Speaker 7: job for us.
- 17:33Speaker 3: You mentioned your defense, How well your defense played, I
- 17:36Speaker 3: mean the points, the points a lot. I mean Baltimore
- 17:39Speaker 3: is used to scoring more points than they did this
- 17:42Speaker 3: football game, considering that they played here in front of
- 17:45Speaker 3: their crowd in Baltimore.
- 17:47Speaker 2: How big was that? It was awesome?
- 17:48Speaker 7: You know, I thought our defense just really came out
- 17:50Speaker 7: with a lot of confidence. It's been building over the
- 17:52Speaker 7: last two weeks, and to be able to play the
- 17:54Speaker 7: game the way they did today and create all the
- 17:55Speaker 7: turnovers and just have so much confidence. You're gonna see
- 17:58Speaker 7: some guys really coming along now butt in. They understand it,
- 18:01Speaker 7: they get it, and so now you're just getting more
- 18:04Speaker 7: and more reps invested, and we're just gonna get better
- 18:05Speaker 7: and better. I feel like as the season goes.
- 18:07Speaker 3: What about money mack Evan McPherson. I mean, the guy's
- 18:11Speaker 3: got a leg. It's a Howard, some man hanging off
- 18:13Speaker 3: that right hip, and he made some big kicks for
- 18:15Speaker 3: you tonight, didn't he awesome?
- 18:16Speaker 7: Six six? I mean it's assuming it gets a franchise record.
- 18:20Speaker 3: I think it is. It might be seven for seven.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I think Dan mentioned the guy wins seven for seven
- 18:25Speaker 3: at some point.
- 18:25Speaker 7: Oh, we should have figured out a way to get
- 18:27Speaker 7: one more, you know, maybef we hadn't fumbled there at
- 18:28Speaker 7: the end of the game.
- 18:29Speaker 3: There you got one more.
- 18:30Speaker 7: But these conditions weren't easy. I mean, it wasn't there
- 18:33Speaker 7: was a high wind up there as he's kicking, and
- 18:37Speaker 7: to my eye, he did an excellent job kicking all
- 18:40Speaker 7: of them. And he's just got so much confidence this year.
- 18:43Speaker 7: You know, he's back to the Evan that we've always
- 18:44Speaker 7: known and that's such a luxury to have.
- 18:47Speaker 3: So if Pittsburgh loses to Buffalo, the best record in
- 18:51Speaker 3: the division is six and six. Legitimately, I mean it's
- 18:54Speaker 3: not like people like, oh, come on, legitimately, you're in
- 18:57Speaker 3: the hunt.
- 18:58Speaker 7: We're just gonna keep fighting one week at a time.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I know.
- 19:00Speaker 7: We got Buffalo at ten days from now. That's our focus.
- 19:03Speaker 7: We just try to control that. Don't worry about the
- 19:05Speaker 7: big picture right now. Just keep taking one game out
- 19:07Speaker 7: of time. This is the exact position we were in last year,
- 19:10Speaker 7: you know, and so unfortunately we've been here. We know
- 19:13Speaker 7: how to dig our way out of it. And that's
- 19:14Speaker 7: what's going to take.
- 19:15Speaker 3: And finally, what are you going to do during the
- 19:17Speaker 3: bye week? What do you got any plans or just
- 19:19Speaker 3: to chill with the family.
- 19:20Speaker 7: Man, Just chill with the family. You know, it'll be
- 19:22Speaker 7: good to see him over the holidays, and just blessed
- 19:26Speaker 7: to have such a great support system. And so look,
- 19:28Speaker 7: forward to seeing them. Congratulations on a big win, Zach,
- 19:30Speaker 7: thank you appreciate it.
- 19:32Speaker 1: These two teams meet again at pay Court Stadium in
- 19:35Speaker 1: two and a half weeks, but up next it's a
- 19:37Speaker 1: road game in Buffalo A week from Sunday. The Bills
- 19:41Speaker 1: are seven and four heading into a road game at
- 19:44Speaker 1: Pittsburgh this week. The Bengals Booth Podcast is brought to
- 19:47Speaker 1: you by pay Corps, proud to be the Bengals official
- 19:50Speaker 1: HR software provider, by Alta Fiber future Proof Fiber Internet
- 19:55Speaker 1: designed to elevate your home, business and community to a
- 19:58Speaker 1: new level, and by Kettering Health the best care for
- 20:01Speaker 1: the best fans. Cattering Health is the official healthcare provider
- 20:05Speaker 1: of the Bengals. Now time for their radio guys recap.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Lap. That was one.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Happy locker room because every guy on offense, defense, and
- 20:17Speaker 1: special team seemingly contributed.
- 20:19Speaker 3: I couldn't agree with you more, Dan, I mean that
- 20:21Speaker 3: that's a great feeling. It's a team sport. I think
- 20:24Speaker 3: football is probably the epitome of team and if you're
- 20:29Speaker 3: you do your one eleventh and everybody does their one eleventh,
- 20:32Speaker 3: you can have games like this And this is a big,
- 20:35Speaker 3: big deal. I mean to come to Baltimore and not
- 20:37Speaker 3: just beat the Baltimore Ravens, but I mean spank them,
- 20:40Speaker 3: embarrassed them in front of their crowd. I mean their
- 20:42Speaker 3: crowd was doing more booing than cheering, it seemed like,
- 20:45Speaker 3: during the during the course of the football game. So
- 20:49Speaker 3: I know that locker room was loud, happy, everybody's excited.
- 20:56Speaker 2: And really, if.
- 20:59Speaker 3: If Pittsburgh loses to Buffalo, best recommend Division six and six,
- 21:04Speaker 3: the Bengals are right in the hunt. I mean they're
- 21:05Speaker 3: in the thick of it and they're not about to
- 21:07Speaker 3: put their tail between their legs and go away.
- 21:11Speaker 1: How much of an impact did Joe Burrow have. I'm
- 21:14Speaker 1: every single person in the room on the other side
- 21:17Speaker 1: of that door over.
- 21:18Speaker 3: There, unbelievable, as big as I've ever seen. I mean,
- 21:22Speaker 3: he is the unquestioned leader of the football team. Here's
- 21:26Speaker 3: the straw that serves the drink. There's no doubt about that.
- 21:29Speaker 3: I mean, as Joe Borrow goes, so go the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 21:32Speaker 3: In my conversation with Zach and the postgame show, and
- 21:35Speaker 3: I said, you could see where eventually Joe started getting
- 21:39Speaker 3: a rhythm and felt the timing the ball was coming
- 21:42Speaker 3: out of his hand well, you know, it seemed like
- 21:45Speaker 3: it started to get free and easy for him, and
- 21:47Speaker 3: Zack said he couldn't agree more. And for Joe to
- 21:50Speaker 3: play as well as he played with all the circumstances
- 21:54Speaker 3: that we talk about, coming to Baltimore and having to
- 21:56Speaker 3: play against this football team, it's no easy task and
- 21:59Speaker 3: he handled himself very well.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Al Golden has had these guys doing turnover drills from
- 22:08Speaker 1: the first day of OTAs. Before practice begins, they're out
- 22:11Speaker 1: there practicing, ripping the ball, punching the ball, doing everything
- 22:15Speaker 1: they can to try to get takeaways. Really hasn't paid
- 22:18Speaker 1: off much until tonight and then on Thanksgiving Night with
- 22:22Speaker 1: the world watching, they get five takeaways.
- 22:24Speaker 3: It was unbelievable to watch, really, I mean, and as
- 22:28Speaker 3: the old saying goes, they come in bunches, you know,
- 22:30Speaker 3: once they start to come, they just seek. The Spickett
- 22:33Speaker 3: gets turned on, you know, and the Fawcett starts overflowing.
- 22:38Speaker 3: And everybody contributed, every level of the defense. Defensive line
- 22:43Speaker 3: did their thing. Everybody played their gap control responsibility. They
- 22:46Speaker 3: knocked the ball out. Miles Murphy was great. Joseph a
- 22:50Speaker 3: side maybe had the best game that I've ever seen
- 22:52Speaker 3: him play, and then you know, the young linebackers were
- 22:55Speaker 3: flying around the football field. Man, they were playing fast,
- 22:58Speaker 3: they were playing confidently and with great speed. And then
- 23:02Speaker 3: on the back end, I thought, you know, I thought
- 23:05Speaker 3: dj was phenomenal. I thought he had his best game.
- 23:09Speaker 3: I've seen him play, play tackling, and everybody made plays.
- 23:14Speaker 3: That's the thing, Like you said, everybody contributed to this
- 23:17Speaker 3: football game. It was a team win. It was probably
- 23:20Speaker 3: the best definition of a team win I've seen in
- 23:22Speaker 3: a while.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Burrow wound up throwing the ball quite a bit. He
- 23:25Speaker 1: threw forty six passes in the game, but he was
- 23:27Speaker 1: under center a decent amount. He only got sacked once.
- 23:31Speaker 1: Did we start to see maybe a little bit of
- 23:33Speaker 1: an evolution with some of the stuff that Joe Flacco
- 23:36Speaker 1: did during the six games where he played.
- 23:38Speaker 3: I'm wondering, you know, it seemed like they incorporated some
- 23:41Speaker 3: of that stuff. And I know the Joe's have been talking,
- 23:44Speaker 3: you know, Joe Burrow and Joe Flacco about football, everything
- 23:47Speaker 3: about football. You know, the only disadvantage with getting under
- 23:53Speaker 3: center is when you play action fake, you turn your
- 23:55Speaker 3: back and you turn.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Your head to the defense.
- 23:58Speaker 3: And I think Joe likes the shot comes for that reason,
- 24:00Speaker 3: he's always looking to seeing what the defense is doing.
- 24:03Speaker 3: And you know he has the same picture that he's
- 24:06Speaker 3: looking at the whole time, instead of the picture changing
- 24:09Speaker 3: when you turn your head like that. But yeah, it's
- 24:12Speaker 3: it's I think I think that to have the ability
- 24:16Speaker 3: to do both, I think he's going to stand him
- 24:18Speaker 3: in good stead as the season progresses, because, let's face it,
- 24:21Speaker 3: then they got to go six and zer, they got
- 24:22Speaker 3: to win them all.
- 24:23Speaker 1: A lot of people have said, well, I play them
- 24:25Speaker 1: if the games, you know, don't have impact on the
- 24:28Speaker 1: playoff race. I'll say this, Let's say that they beat Buffalo.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Let's say that they beat Baltimore in the rematch, and
- 24:37Speaker 1: they still don't make the playoffs. How much better would
- 24:39Speaker 1: you feel going into next year beating teams like that,
- 24:43Speaker 1: having Burrow back, hopefully continue to see progress by the defense.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I mean, I would feel a million times better about
- 24:52Speaker 1: the prospects for net Seaton next season if those types
- 24:55Speaker 1: of things happen.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it wouldn't be like you know, coach speak, it
- 24:59Speaker 3: wouldn't be like high this guy they did it. They
- 25:01Speaker 3: would have gone out and beaten these teams when the
- 25:04Speaker 3: games mean something when the game's on the line, when
- 25:06Speaker 3: these teams have to win games to get the seed
- 25:09Speaker 3: they want to get to go into the playoffs, and
- 25:11Speaker 3: you spank them, you slap them, you knock them back.
- 25:14Speaker 3: That's that's important. And there's no way that Joe Burrow
- 25:16Speaker 3: wasn't going to play. I mean he was. He feels
- 25:20Speaker 3: like he was one hundred percent, and you know, the
- 25:23Speaker 3: medical people and everybody agreed. So he played, and he
- 25:27Speaker 3: played at an extremely high level. I mean, this football
- 25:31Speaker 3: team loves their quarterback, I mean loves their quarterback like
- 25:36Speaker 3: nobody loves their quarterback. And I think I think Joe
- 25:39Speaker 3: Flacco is in a good situation. I mean he's there
- 25:44Speaker 3: if something happens to Joe Burrow, Joe Flacco is right
- 25:47Speaker 3: there to pick up the pieces, you know. And Bengals
- 25:50Speaker 3: find themselves in a pretty damn good situation at the
- 25:53Speaker 3: quarterback position.
- 25:54Speaker 1: In the words of Bill Murray and Stripes, an army
- 25:58Speaker 1: without a leader is like a foot without a big toe.
- 26:01Speaker 1: The big toe is back, is big toe is healthy.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Bengals have their leader.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Bingo. I love it, Dan.
- 26:10Speaker 1: That's a wrap on the Baltimore game. Now time for
- 26:12Speaker 1: this week's fun Facts conversation where we get to know
- 26:15Speaker 1: a Bengals linebacker who has faced Kansas City in each
- 26:19Speaker 1: of the last two Super Bowls. Time for some fun
- 26:24Speaker 1: facts with linebacker Orren. Burke's from Lorton, Virginia, not too
- 26:28Speaker 1: far from Washington, d C. What were some of the
- 26:30Speaker 1: things you enjoyed about growing up there.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Yeah, one just had a lot of family there.
- 26:36Speaker 8: Just I feel like the DMV as a whole, just
- 26:38Speaker 8: a lot of culture there, music, food, You're close to
- 26:42Speaker 8: a little bit of everything, a lot of politics, a
- 26:44Speaker 8: lot of military. But yeah, I just have great memories
- 26:47Speaker 8: growing up there. A lot of history there as well
- 26:49Speaker 8: in the DC area, So I feel like I didn't
- 26:52Speaker 8: appreciate it as much as I do as an adult
- 26:54Speaker 8: now going back and like really seeing how cool of
- 26:56Speaker 8: the city it is.
- 26:57Speaker 2: So love living there.
- 26:58Speaker 1: For visiting with Ooron Burr. When did you start to
- 27:01Speaker 1: stand out as an athlete?
- 27:04Speaker 8: Yeah, I was very active early played baseball, soccer, basketball,
- 27:10Speaker 8: and then ended up playing football. Basketball was definitely my
- 27:13Speaker 8: my number one kind of growing up, and I had
- 27:16Speaker 8: a lot of big cousins that played basketball.
- 27:18Speaker 2: As well and wanted to be like them, you know.
- 27:20Speaker 8: They ended up playing in college and some in the
- 27:22Speaker 8: pros and and abroad as well, but.
- 27:26Speaker 2: My path ended up being football.
- 27:27Speaker 8: I started playing football my freshman year in high school
- 27:30Speaker 8: and just wanted to make some friends going into the year,
- 27:32Speaker 8: and I just knew that was gonna be a great
- 27:34Speaker 8: opportunity to meet guys and you know, bond that way,
- 27:36Speaker 8: and eventually fell in love with the game. But just
- 27:39Speaker 8: always was very athletic and loved basketball, like I said,
- 27:42Speaker 8: And I feel like that's where I got my grade.
- 27:45Speaker 8: I wasn't always like the best player on the team,
- 27:47Speaker 8: but just really learned like how to hustle and just
- 27:50Speaker 8: like find a way to add value to a team.
- 27:53Speaker 8: And you know that that's carried over to everything that
- 27:55Speaker 8: I do. So I really enjoyed my you know, my journey.
- 27:58Speaker 8: And I feel like a lot of kids now they
- 27:59Speaker 8: special lies like really early into sports, and like I
- 28:02Speaker 8: just enjoyed playing all the sports and being competitive, and
- 28:04Speaker 8: I feel like that really has worked out in my
- 28:06Speaker 8: in my favor.
- 28:07Speaker 1: There's an old picture of you on the internet from
- 28:09Speaker 1: being the homecoming king at your high school. Were you
- 28:12Speaker 1: involved in other activities as well? Are pretty much sports only?
- 28:15Speaker 8: Yeah, A lot of sports I was involved with FCA
- 28:18Speaker 8: at our school, as much community service as I can
- 28:21Speaker 8: get into, and just very social we had. We had
- 28:24Speaker 8: a really really cool high school experience with just everybody
- 28:27Speaker 8: supporting each other with sports and academics. Was a huge
- 28:31Speaker 8: pieces for me. My family as well obviously ended up
- 28:34Speaker 8: going to Vanderbilt, so that was a big piece for
- 28:36Speaker 8: me moving into college. Uh, and my sister went to
- 28:38Speaker 8: Stanford play softball there as well. So we're always student athletes,
- 28:43Speaker 8: and I just really appreciate my my upbringing. My parents
- 28:47Speaker 8: let enforced that really early into us, just having great
- 28:50Speaker 8: values and knowing that it's beyond sports and just having
- 28:53Speaker 8: the impact in your community and beyond.
- 28:54Speaker 2: So yeah, that was a big piece of me.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So with you at Vanderbilt and your sister at Stanford,
- 29:00Speaker 1: did your folks more or less tell you make this
- 29:02Speaker 1: choice as much about the academics as the athletics.
- 29:06Speaker 8: Not directly, but definitely kind of indirectly. They were like,
- 29:09Speaker 8: you know, just think about the long term situation, what's
- 29:12Speaker 8: your major, what you want to do, you know, beyond
- 29:14Speaker 8: playing the game, because you know, like the numbers tell
- 29:17Speaker 8: you that, you know, you're probably not going to play
- 29:18Speaker 8: in the NFL.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Or for her, professional sports, but.
- 29:23Speaker 8: Just having a backup plan when that does come. And
- 29:25Speaker 8: you know, I feel like that has allowed me to
- 29:27Speaker 8: be a well rounded individual. Just just really taking intent
- 29:33Speaker 8: about my my academics has helped me tremendously, you know,
- 29:37Speaker 8: just the way I process thing, the way I learn,
- 29:40Speaker 8: and just again just being a well, well arounded individual.
- 29:44Speaker 1: You started out as a safety at Vanderbilt. How did
- 29:47Speaker 1: you become a linebacker and how did you feel about it?
- 29:49Speaker 8: Yeah, so I was actually a recruiter as a linebacker.
- 29:52Speaker 8: I was James Franklin. I know, he's a Virginia technologis
- 29:55Speaker 8: last recruiting class at Vanity before he went to Penn State.
- 29:57Speaker 8: I was a linebacker that year. We had a new
- 30:00Speaker 8: just have come in with coach Mason and he saw
- 30:03Speaker 8: me as a safety.
- 30:04Speaker 2: So I played safety.
- 30:05Speaker 8: I was middle posts, like running all over the place
- 30:08Speaker 8: for two years, and then I played a hybrid outside
- 30:11Speaker 8: inside position, and then I played inside my last year.
- 30:15Speaker 8: So really all over the field. But for me, it's
- 30:18Speaker 8: just about find a way to get on the field,
- 30:20Speaker 8: add value, make plays, and I feel like that allowed
- 30:23Speaker 8: me to have the skill set. You know, this this
- 30:25Speaker 8: league has changed a lot at the lineback position, being
- 30:28Speaker 8: able to run and cover, and I feel like that
- 30:30Speaker 8: safety background has definitely helped me in terms of like
- 30:33Speaker 8: seeing the game from a different perspective.
- 30:35Speaker 1: We're chatting with Orrin Burks as we do this interview.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Your alma maters ranked twelfth in the country in college football.
- 30:42Speaker 1: How much fun is it for Vanderbilt grads to see
- 30:45Speaker 1: this rise of the commodorees in college football?
- 30:48Speaker 2: Man, it's been it's been a long time coming.
- 30:50Speaker 8: Just so proud of the guys, Coach Lee leading the
- 30:52Speaker 8: way and having the opportunity to be around them during
- 30:55Speaker 8: the spring and in the summer, just seeing like the
- 30:57Speaker 8: culture that they're building, and just just so proud as
- 31:01Speaker 8: a loan to go to see them, you know, thriving
- 31:03Speaker 8: on the field and doing it at a high level
- 31:05Speaker 8: and getting you know, the exposure from the national media.
- 31:08Speaker 8: But just always had faith in you know, this program
- 31:12Speaker 8: doing it the right way, and the city of Nashville
- 31:14Speaker 8: is getting behind them as well. So it's been really
- 31:17Speaker 8: cool to see the guys take off this year.
- 31:19Speaker 1: You're drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the third
- 31:21Speaker 1: round in twenty eighteen. How stressful was that day leading
- 31:25Speaker 1: up to getting the phone.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Call I wasn't very stressed.
- 31:28Speaker 8: I feel like I had you know, at that point,
- 31:30Speaker 8: you do everything you can to put yourself in the
- 31:32Speaker 8: best situation in terms of being drafted, and I felt
- 31:35Speaker 8: really good about my draft process. I played well in
- 31:38Speaker 8: the senior ball as a laid ad there, did well
- 31:41Speaker 8: in the combine. I felt like I did well in
- 31:42Speaker 8: my interviews, and my tape was my tape from college.
- 31:45Speaker 8: You know, I had a lot of versatility from the
- 31:46Speaker 8: safety to the inside and outside, and I felt like
- 31:49Speaker 8: I had kind of like done everything I could and
- 31:51Speaker 8: just really had a sense of like this freedom, you know,
- 31:55Speaker 8: just like being able to surrender the outcomes of where
- 31:58Speaker 8: I would land. You have no idea where you're going
- 31:59Speaker 8: to be, so like it's not even worth you trying
- 32:01Speaker 8: to guess for the guys that are going through that
- 32:03Speaker 8: process coming up. But yeah, I just felt like I
- 32:06Speaker 8: had done everything I could and was excited for the
- 32:08Speaker 8: opportunity to land anywhere, you know, in the NFL and
- 32:11Speaker 8: make my mark.
- 32:12Speaker 1: The Packers missed the playoffs your rookie year. Since then,
- 32:15Speaker 1: you've been on six consecutive playoff teams with Green Bay,
- 32:18Speaker 1: San Francisco and Philly. You've played in the last two
- 32:21Speaker 1: Super Bowls. What have you learned about the most important
- 32:25Speaker 1: traits of winning teams?
- 32:27Speaker 8: Man, it's a lot. I'll say first, it's just culture
- 32:31Speaker 8: is so important. Just the standard for play, play style,
- 32:36Speaker 8: not even just scheme, just the way that you play
- 32:38Speaker 8: the game, the way that you prepare your process. It
- 32:42Speaker 8: bleeds over to everybody into the building. It includes the
- 32:45Speaker 8: front staff, the back, like everybody has to be bought
- 32:47Speaker 8: in for you to really make a run. And I
- 32:51Speaker 8: feel like that has improved my process as well. It
- 32:54Speaker 8: made me a better person, maybe a better man, in
- 32:57Speaker 8: terms of like the accountability that it takes, the effort
- 33:00Speaker 8: that it takes, and ultimately vulnerability like this game, like
- 33:04Speaker 8: you're exposed every every Sunday, You're out there and you
- 33:07Speaker 8: know the whole world is seeing you. So you're just
- 33:09Speaker 8: trying to put your best foot forward for yourself and
- 33:12Speaker 8: for your brothers next to you. So I don't know,
- 33:15Speaker 8: just taking that approach, as you know, it had it's
- 33:19Speaker 8: better in my life, you know, in terms of me
- 33:21Speaker 8: having to be better for my brother right next to me.
- 33:23Speaker 8: So I just really enjoyed that about football, the challenge
- 33:27Speaker 8: that it is every weekend and week out, it's find
- 33:29Speaker 8: a way to get better.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I work with Dave Lappam on the broadcasts. He was
- 33:34Speaker 1: on the Super Bowl team in nineteen eighty one with
- 33:35Speaker 1: the Bengals lost to the forty nine Ers. It still
- 33:38Speaker 1: hurts to this day. You played on the losing team
- 33:41Speaker 1: a couple of years ago, and then the next year
- 33:44Speaker 1: we're on the winning team with the Philadelphia Eagles. How
- 33:48Speaker 1: did that feel, considering that you still had that fresh
- 33:51Speaker 1: wound from the year before.
- 33:53Speaker 8: Yeah, it was just I feel like I just had
- 33:56Speaker 8: the mindset I have to see it through, you know,
- 33:58Speaker 8: just having an opportunity and coming up short with the
- 34:01Speaker 8: Niners and then having the opportunity the next year against
- 34:03Speaker 8: the same team that that very rarely happens, so it's
- 34:07Speaker 8: a different locker room. But you know, they had kind
- 34:10Speaker 8: of experienced the same thing a couple of years ago,
- 34:11Speaker 8: is losing to the Chiefs as well, So I felt
- 34:14Speaker 8: like there was a lot of joint motivation towards, you know,
- 34:17Speaker 8: getting it right this time. And Yeah, just just wanted
- 34:21Speaker 8: to leave it out there on the field everything I could,
- 34:24Speaker 8: you know, preparation and just knowing what to expect for
- 34:26Speaker 8: the Super Bowl week as well. It was really important
- 34:28Speaker 8: in terms of sticking to your process. The craziness outside
- 34:32Speaker 8: and you know that that goes into that week as well.
- 34:35Speaker 8: Just being able to keep your head down and work
- 34:37Speaker 8: towards the ultimate goal because afterwards there's no greater feeling.
- 34:40Speaker 8: And then then host hoisting that that Lombardi Trophy and
- 34:43Speaker 8: being with your brothers in the in the locker room.
- 34:45Speaker 8: So yeah, just looking at looking to repeat that field.
- 34:48Speaker 1: He Sean Nixon is deep and we're underway another game
- 34:52Speaker 1: in the National Football League postseason. Nixon will take it
- 34:55Speaker 1: on the far side outside of numbers.
- 34:56Speaker 3: To the twenty on a diagonal twenty five, and he
- 34:58Speaker 3: is smashed.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I lost the football.
- 35:01Speaker 3: It's inside the thirty and recovered by the Eagles. Or
- 35:06Speaker 3: and Burkes knocked it loose.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Boy, what a hit that was.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Orrin Burkes just laid an unbelievable shot on Keyshawn Dixon
- 35:17Speaker 1: to knock that ball out. Holy cow, it's not quite
- 35:21Speaker 1: the Philly Special, but you made a play that Eagles
- 35:24Speaker 1: fans will be talking about for decades. You force the
- 35:27Speaker 1: fumble on the very first play of the playoff run
- 35:30Speaker 1: with a jarring hit to the Packers kick returner. How
- 35:34Speaker 1: cool is it? To have a moment like that that
- 35:36Speaker 1: anytime you go back to Philly, somebody's going to say,
- 35:39Speaker 1: Orrin Burks, wait to force that fumble.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it's special. It's special, you know, going into playoffs.
- 35:44Speaker 8: I played in a lot of playoff games before that,
- 35:46Speaker 8: and I just remember myself telling myself that week, just
- 35:49Speaker 8: find a way to make a player is going to
- 35:50Speaker 8: change the game. And what better way to change the
- 35:52Speaker 8: game than the opening kickoff, forcing the fun will getting
- 35:55Speaker 8: the ball out and we go down to drive start
- 35:58Speaker 8: and score right there, just to get a quick jump
- 36:01Speaker 8: on it. Setting the tone for the playoffs the place.
- 36:04Speaker 8: Like again, the play style that we wanted to have,
- 36:05Speaker 8: the physicality that we wanted to have. It's super cool.
- 36:09Speaker 8: I still get like d ms every once in a while,
- 36:11Speaker 8: Like I'll never forget that, you know, that play that
- 36:12Speaker 8: you were talking about, the opening kickoff of the of
- 36:15Speaker 8: the Packers game. So yeah, just definitely still feel the love,
- 36:19Speaker 8: you know, from from Philly fans and beyond, you know,
- 36:21Speaker 8: for you know, making a play that you know change
- 36:23Speaker 8: the game.
- 36:24Speaker 2: But yeah, just just a really cool moment.
- 36:27Speaker 1: All right, a few wild card topics now for Orrin Berks,
- 36:30Speaker 1: who is your all time favorite athlete in any sport.
- 36:34Speaker 2: And why obviously Michael Jordan.
- 36:37Speaker 8: Just like his competitiveness, you know, that's that's hard to emulate,
- 36:43Speaker 8: and just like his his his drive to hold the
- 36:48Speaker 8: others around him accountable. The same with Kobe, like kind
- 36:50Speaker 8: of that that mindset. So yeah, I probably have to
- 36:53Speaker 8: go with those two Jordans in Kobe.
- 36:55Speaker 1: You earned your degree at Vanderbilt. Do you know what
- 36:58Speaker 1: you want to do after football?
- 37:00Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm you know, figuring it out. I do a
- 37:02Speaker 8: little bit of real styling side, but I really enjoy
- 37:06Speaker 8: this business, the critical thinking around that, using business tactics
- 37:11Speaker 8: to attack social problems and create change in the community.
- 37:15Speaker 8: So definitely things around that. That's that's kind of what
- 37:17Speaker 8: I'm looking at. But you know, I'm enjoying my time
- 37:19Speaker 8: in the league, and you know, I'll have so many
- 37:22Speaker 8: doors that are going to be opened, you know, when
- 37:24Speaker 8: when the time comes after I retire.
- 37:26Speaker 2: But I just focus on now.
- 37:28Speaker 1: If I'm not mistaken. Your wife was a college volleyball player.
- 37:31Speaker 1: How did you two meet?
- 37:33Speaker 8: Yeah, we met through FCA, so we did a joint
- 37:35Speaker 8: fellowship called One City, One God. She was one of
- 37:38Speaker 8: the leaders for Belmont and I was one for Vanderbilt,
- 37:41Speaker 8: and we had lipscumb Tribeca, Fisk. There's so many schools
- 37:46Speaker 8: right there in Nashville, so planning that and yeah, just
- 37:49Speaker 8: ended up meeting her and didn't want to be the
- 37:51Speaker 8: guy that, you know, hitting on girls at FCA. But
- 37:53Speaker 8: you know, that's that's ultimately where you want to find
- 37:55Speaker 8: somebody that has like like minded and you know, ultimately
- 37:57Speaker 8: we have a beautiful family now, been mary s years
- 38:00Speaker 8: and a little girl, and it's it's just it's a
- 38:03Speaker 8: beautiful thing.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Aside from sports, what are you good at?
- 38:08Speaker 2: I feel like I'm good with people.
- 38:10Speaker 8: I truly enjoy the team aspect of sport, and I
- 38:16Speaker 8: try to carry that into my relationships with my wife,
- 38:19Speaker 8: with my friends, with my family, and just try to
- 38:21Speaker 8: pull the best out of people. So that's I feel
- 38:23Speaker 8: like that's what I'm good at all.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Right, final fun fact for Orrin Burks. This one's kind
- 38:27Speaker 1: of deep. If you could meet anyone in history, living
- 38:31Speaker 1: or deceased, who would that person be?
- 38:34Speaker 8: Yeah, probably be probably Jackie Robinson. Most people don't know.
- 38:38Speaker 8: That's the reason I wear forty two. So coming to
- 38:40Speaker 8: the league, you have to have a forty or fifty
- 38:42Speaker 8: number to be linebacker, and you know that was presented.
- 38:45Speaker 8: You know that thought would be cool to pay homage to,
- 38:47Speaker 8: you know, one of the first black athletes in professional sports,
- 38:50Speaker 8: and like all that he had to go through, the
- 38:52Speaker 8: mental fortitude that he carried and the poise that he
- 38:55Speaker 8: carried as well. So I feel like that would be
- 38:57Speaker 8: really cool to hear his story.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Like first, I love it and I will definitely mention
- 39:02Speaker 1: it the next time number forty two makes a tackle
- 39:05Speaker 1: Orren Burt's appreciate your time, best of luck the rest
- 39:07Speaker 1: of the year.
- 39:07Speaker 2: I appreciate it.
