- 0:15Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Oh, it's it's the Tuesday after the Sunday that wasn't
- 0:24Speaker 2: speechless speech I don't know which way to go, Hi, Evan, Hello,
- 0:29Speaker 2: how you doing?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Okay?
- 0:31Speaker 4: Yeah, just okay, yeah, I'm not going to get into
- 0:34Speaker 4: any offensive comparison. The Patriots had about two hundred quarter
- 0:39Speaker 4: that Zeema doesn't even want that makeup.
- 0:41Speaker 5: But Diana Rossini is saying that Max Crosby wants to
- 0:43Speaker 5: plavor Rabel already.
- 0:45Speaker 3: He said that on Radio Row last.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Week Brady wouldn't let the Patriots get him the light
- 0:49Speaker 2: banter of Evan Lazar and Alex bar Alex came back
- 0:53Speaker 2: with a little hop in his steps. So I don't
- 0:55Speaker 2: know what happened down there.
- 0:56Speaker 5: But on Monday morning he texts, I get wake up
- 0:59Speaker 5: to a text from It's just like.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Who is this woman that's knocking on my door?
- 1:02Speaker 2: It was like, why did I get a bill?
- 1:04Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:06Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by a Toyota
- 1:10Speaker 6: dot Com.
- 1:13Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:17Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, and I can tell you we are
- 1:22Speaker 2: officially into the offseason. All the all the post mortem
- 1:26Speaker 2: press conferences are done, most of the players are gone.
- 1:30Speaker 2: There's some coaches and scouts still here, obviously because we're
- 1:33Speaker 2: only really days away from the combine. But I think
- 1:37Speaker 2: Mike Rabel went on a little VAK today, So it
- 1:41Speaker 2: is over. It is over twenty twenty five, the book
- 1:45Speaker 2: has been written. We are on to twenty twenty six.
- 1:49Speaker 5: That's my favorite, is like when the head coach like
- 1:51Speaker 5: goes on a vacation and I'm like, why are we
- 1:54Speaker 5: still here?
- 1:56Speaker 2: He's not here then, like I can always put in
- 1:59Speaker 2: for time, I know.
- 2:00Speaker 5: I'm just saying, like during the bye week he went
- 2:03Speaker 5: on a little quick VAK too, and I was like.
- 2:07Speaker 3: I'm watching, Like, why am I watching tape?
- 2:09Speaker 2: With coaches, it's a lot easier when you have his means,
- 2:12Speaker 2: you can just get away quicker, you know. For us,
- 2:15Speaker 2: it's playing trains and automobiles.
- 2:17Speaker 1: He's got a staff of people working on a lot
- 2:20Speaker 1: of the things that we're trying to get up to speed.
- 2:22Speaker 2: On yep, So what are we getting up to speed
- 2:25Speaker 2: on or do we.
- 2:26Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 2:26Speaker 1: If I crack, I know, yell at me. I'm you know,
- 2:30Speaker 1: starting to plan out our draft shows and all that
- 2:33Speaker 1: kind of stuff.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Ten pm on Monday Tuesday morning, I walk into the office.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Induces already you know, we got what's your draft breakdown?
- 2:42Speaker 3: I was like, Mike, we just got back from the
- 2:43Speaker 3: super Bowl that yesterday. Can we no give me a.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Turn the page. This is how I deal with it,
- 2:50Speaker 1: exactly what I.
- 2:50Speaker 5: Said to Paul. I was like, I think this is
- 2:52Speaker 5: how he's coping or just now.
- 2:55Speaker 1: There's a certain delight I take you guys make fun
- 2:57Speaker 1: of me for the spreadsheet that I keep on my
- 2:59Speaker 1: computer each year, you know, has a tab and I
- 3:01Speaker 1: had the depth chart in the micro.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Front of that.
- 3:04Speaker 8: I am.
- 3:04Speaker 4: I am a little in aw of it.
- 3:06Speaker 1: There's a difference, but there's a certain like and I think,
- 3:08Speaker 1: I honest to god, like, I got back from the
- 3:09Speaker 1: super Bowl party that night and I was literally like
- 3:13Speaker 1: got on my computer like midnight and was like, and
- 3:15Speaker 1: we're moving to twenty twenty, you know, and then filling
- 3:17Speaker 1: stuff in So now I don't know, it is my
- 3:19Speaker 1: way of coping with it. I think so. But it
- 3:21Speaker 1: was a great year. I think that's the more. The
- 3:23Speaker 1: more I look back on it and thank my God,
- 3:26Speaker 1: Like they won ten game win streak, they won the
- 3:29Speaker 1: AFC East. It was just such a cool season. And
- 3:32Speaker 1: you know, I don't know that the bad taste of
- 3:33Speaker 1: the Super Bowl is kind of quickly dissipating. I'm not really.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Yeah, we agree with that we got beat by the
- 3:40Speaker 2: better team. I mean, you know, we didn't get it
- 3:42Speaker 2: pulled away from us. So you know, people I've talked
- 3:47Speaker 2: to this said, yeah, I'm not really that upset.
- 3:49Speaker 4: No, I'm not that easy to record. Yeah, there wasn't
- 3:52Speaker 4: that vil that play. No, you could be disappointed and
- 3:55Speaker 4: upset and all that stuff. That's I don't ever tell
- 3:58Speaker 4: anybody how they should feel. But there wasn't that one play.
- 4:02Speaker 4: There wasn't the one decision or Jeff Reice call or
- 4:05Speaker 4: anything like that that.
- 4:06Speaker 2: You didn't have a lead and you blew it.
- 4:08Speaker 3: It could have been I am, yeah, I understand all that.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I don't know, No, but it was your first one here,
- 4:19Speaker 4: that's how you feel.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I tried.
- 4:20Speaker 5: I'm trying to like figure out the best way to
- 4:22Speaker 5: say I'm not like upset that they lost to per se,
- 4:27Speaker 5: Like I like all the points you guys are making
- 4:29Speaker 5: are all valid and true. I'm upset about the effort
- 4:33Speaker 5: that they put in because I feel like they could
- 4:36Speaker 5: have played so much better and there was things that
- 4:38Speaker 5: they could have done, especially offensively, that would have been
- 4:42Speaker 5: so much better than what they ended up doing in
- 4:44Speaker 5: the game. And I respect the heck out of Josh
- 4:46Speaker 5: McDaniels so much, and I'm just like I want to
- 4:49Speaker 5: ask him, like truthfully, like what happened happened? You know,
- 4:53Speaker 5: because like I just have been thinking for the last
- 4:56Speaker 5: couple of days, like why didn't they do this?
- 4:58Speaker 3: Why didn't they do that? Why weren't they prepared.
- 5:01Speaker 2: For what was going on in your mind in the moment?
- 5:04Speaker 4: Right?
- 5:05Speaker 2: What were you thinking?
- 5:05Speaker 5: Because it was it was like it never even like
- 5:08Speaker 5: they never even got off the bus, you know. And
- 5:11Speaker 5: that that's the piece of it that stings, not necessarily
- 5:14Speaker 5: that they lost the game, like the way the game
- 5:16Speaker 5: unfolded obviously didn't it didn't state like it was inevitably.
- 5:20Speaker 5: I totally understood, but I just felt like they they
- 5:22Speaker 5: didn't even put their best foot forward, Like they didn't
- 5:25Speaker 5: play anywhere close to their best game.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought the you had you said your piece
- 5:29Speaker 1: on Tuesday, and then JT. O'Sullivan dropped like an hour
- 5:32Speaker 1: twenty of big breaking the whole thing down and saying
- 5:35Speaker 1: the same thing that Evan's saying, that whole thing, throw
- 5:38Speaker 1: by throw, you know, miss blitz pick up by miss blitz,
- 5:42Speaker 1: pick up everything that that Evan said.
- 5:44Speaker 5: He he just didn't look prepared on offense, which is
- 5:47Speaker 5: just so bizarre for Mike Rabel and Josh McDaniels, who
- 5:52Speaker 5: both won Coaches of the Year days earlier before the
- 5:55Speaker 5: Super Bowl, to have the team look lost and unaware
- 5:59Speaker 5: of certain things that's Seattle was doing. Was just That's
- 6:02Speaker 5: the part that's disappointing is the preparation.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I mean, is it.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Possible that they were talent wise just that much better?
- 6:11Speaker 2: And in Josh McDaniel's mind, it's like changing things up
- 6:16Speaker 2: isn't going to make much of a difference. I got
- 6:18Speaker 2: to stick to the plan because that's how we prepared
- 6:22Speaker 2: and if we're going to have any chance, this is
- 6:25Speaker 2: this is it. I don't know.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I've heard an interesting take from Jason mccordy one bring
- 6:31Speaker 4: that up.
- 6:31Speaker 5: I thought this was the best take that I've heard
- 6:33Speaker 5: on this so far. No, I I you can.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Finish it up too, Just that he was saying, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 4: in the past, Josh has shown the ability to adapt
- 6:42Speaker 4: and adjust on the fly as well as anybody. And
- 6:46Speaker 4: he gave countless examples of what he you know, when
- 6:49Speaker 4: when Jason was here, what he would do, and he
- 6:52Speaker 4: made he felt Jason felt that maybe Josh didn't feel
- 6:56Speaker 4: like the experience level of the guys that he's dealing with.
- 6:59Speaker 4: You get two, he's on the offensive line, you got
- 7:01Speaker 4: a second year quarterback, even your number one wide receiver
- 7:05Speaker 4: is new to the system. They don't have that sort
- 7:07Speaker 4: of reservoir of knowledge to fall back on.
- 7:10Speaker 7: You know.
- 7:10Speaker 4: It wasn't one of those situations where you could go
- 7:12Speaker 4: to Tom Brady and say, remember we did against Cleveland
- 7:15Speaker 4: back in you know, twenty twelve, and that work against this,
- 7:20Speaker 4: and maybe that was why he was a little bit
- 7:22Speaker 4: less anxious personally. I would liked to have seen him
- 7:25Speaker 4: just throw more stuff at the wall. That's kind of
- 7:27Speaker 4: the phrase that Felger used yesterday, and I agree with it,
- 7:30Speaker 4: like at this point, you know, we're drowning, so you
- 7:35Speaker 4: know what hurt would it have done? If you tried
- 7:38Speaker 4: more of the sixth offensive lineman networked on the one
- 7:41Speaker 4: play that everybody's been talking about, or maybe a hurry
- 7:44Speaker 4: up in the middle of the third quarter, you know,
- 7:47Speaker 4: something different. Maybe they didn't feel like that those things
- 7:50Speaker 4: would work. But at that point, nothing that you were
- 7:51Speaker 4: doing was working, and there was no there was no
- 7:54Speaker 4: light at the end of the tunnel when you're punting
- 7:56Speaker 4: eight times in a row, right, And I.
- 7:57Speaker 5: Know it sounds like a little counterintuitive because he did
- 8:00Speaker 5: have an injury, but if Drake May's shoulder was bothering him,
- 8:03Speaker 5: then like maybe start calling some design quarterback runs and
- 8:07Speaker 5: you know, using his legs as a factor in the
- 8:09Speaker 5: run game. Maybe go empty, you know, and allowed. They
- 8:12Speaker 5: didn't play a single snap in this game out of
- 8:14Speaker 5: an empty formation the entire game, which when teams are
- 8:17Speaker 5: blitzing you, you know, you spread the field and said
- 8:19Speaker 5: then you can see things coming and kind of dissect
- 8:22Speaker 5: the defense that way. You know, things like that are
- 8:24Speaker 5: the things that you know. On Thursday, I'm still throwing
- 8:28Speaker 5: around in my head, like where why didn't we do
- 8:30Speaker 5: more of these different things? But you know, only McDaniels
- 8:33Speaker 5: could answer that. But I thought Jason mccordy's answer made
- 8:36Speaker 5: a lot of sense. And now that we are turning
- 8:38Speaker 5: the page to the offseason and starting to look ahead,
- 8:40Speaker 5: they only have six unrestricted free agents, so it's not
- 8:43Speaker 5: like they have a ton of guys that are up anyways.
- 8:45Speaker 5: But the continuity piece of it is something that I
- 8:48Speaker 5: feel like I'm coming back to of, like does it
- 8:51Speaker 5: make more sense to obviously you want to stack talent
- 8:54Speaker 5: and bring in more reinforcements, but bringing back some of
- 8:58Speaker 5: the same guys so that you start to bank reps
- 9:01Speaker 5: together and build on seasons together, you know, like they
- 9:04Speaker 5: had when they were humming in the Dynasty days. Like
- 9:07Speaker 5: you know, we were talking about safety deuce earlier with
- 9:09Speaker 5: Jalen Hawkins. You know he's a free agent. Could you
- 9:13Speaker 5: upgrade Jalen Hawkins?
- 9:14Speaker 3: Yeah? Probably.
- 9:15Speaker 5: But Devin mccordy, Patrick Chung, and Deron Harmon played a
- 9:18Speaker 5: lot of big games together, a lot of playoff games,
- 9:21Speaker 5: a lot of Super Bowls, and they didn't even need
- 9:24Speaker 5: to talk to talk to communicate sometimes, like it was
- 9:27Speaker 5: just second nature to them what adjustments they were going
- 9:31Speaker 5: to make and what they were going to do and
- 9:32Speaker 5: where everybody was gonna be. And like, is it better
- 9:35Speaker 5: to just kind of grow from this together, as you know,
- 9:39Speaker 5: all eleven guys versus you know, we need wholesale changes
- 9:43Speaker 5: because Seattle blew us out in the Super Bowl.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, I don't know.
- 9:47Speaker 1: I just like, I'm curious how this now is gonna
- 9:51Speaker 1: color next season and then going into the off season,
- 9:54Speaker 1: and what are the stories around this team now? And
- 9:57Speaker 1: really what are the expectations. I think that's the biggest
- 9:59Speaker 1: thing to me is he went to the Super Bowl
- 10:01Speaker 1: this year, there were no expectations. They're going to be
- 10:03Speaker 1: expectations next year? What are they? And what's reasonable to expect?
- 10:07Speaker 4: This perfect time for one of our ridiculous off season pus.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Okay you've got a poll, Yeah, okay, how big is
- 10:15Speaker 2: your pole?
- 10:16Speaker 4: It's a little it's a little pole. So but you know,
- 10:19Speaker 4: just piggybacking on what Mike is piggybacking on what Mike
- 10:23Speaker 4: was just talking about the expectations. So how many went
- 10:29Speaker 4: I mean, like how far? How many wins? What would
- 10:32Speaker 4: have to happen next year for you to say that
- 10:34Speaker 4: wasn't a disappointing season. Early four casts totally unrealistic to say, well,
- 10:37Speaker 4: they need to get back to the Super Bowl again
- 10:39Speaker 4: at minimum, or to just what that's not true. I
- 10:42Speaker 4: don't think I'm speaking for myself.
- 10:44Speaker 1: You ready, Yeah, I'm ready.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Don't usually have a good you have a good take
- 10:47Speaker 4: on the win ten games, win ten games, ten games, okay,
- 10:51Speaker 4: make the playoffs.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I was going to say, make the playoffs in ten games,
- 10:55Speaker 3: and make.
- 10:56Speaker 4: The playoffs, okay, mine is I think I'm with you
- 10:58Speaker 4: on that.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Mine is competing for the division up to the last
- 11:01Speaker 2: week of the season, either you have it or it's
- 11:05Speaker 2: going to be decided and you're one of the people.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's all fair. I think we're all
- 11:11Speaker 4: kind of in agreement. I'm wondering and when you said that,
- 11:14Speaker 4: Mike about the expectations, I'm wondering if some other people
- 11:17Speaker 4: might be thinking we're being too easy.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Oh. I heard somebody say if if they don't get
- 11:22Speaker 2: to the AFC Championship game, it's a big disappoint.
- 11:24Speaker 1: And those are the voices that are gonna be really
- 11:26Speaker 1: frustrating this offseason.
- 11:28Speaker 2: But it just that in furiates me, just level of ignorance.
- 11:32Speaker 1: I could easily see them win less games but be
- 11:35Speaker 1: a better team and lose earlier in the playoffses, but
- 11:37Speaker 1: be a better team and feel like we're better positioned
- 11:40Speaker 1: for twenty twenty seven than they even are right now.
- 11:43Speaker 8: You know.
- 11:44Speaker 2: So let's say Kansas City like completely says we're going
- 11:47Speaker 2: to spend money, we're gonna support Mahomes and the Chiefs
- 11:51Speaker 2: are back, and you lose to them in the divisional
- 11:53Speaker 2: round or something like okay, you know, or.
- 11:58Speaker 5: You know, unfortunately, like they had great injury luck this
- 12:00Speaker 5: year yep, and Washington did it this year and they
- 12:04Speaker 5: lose their quarterback for you know, periods of time in
- 12:06Speaker 5: the season and ye back in but injuries aside, I
- 12:10Speaker 5: think making the playoffs, you know who. Right now, there's
- 12:13Speaker 5: a lot of unknown in Buffalo, Like you don't know
- 12:15Speaker 5: if Joe Brady's a good coach. You don't know who
- 12:18Speaker 5: their defensive coordinator and how they're going to run their
- 12:20Speaker 5: defense personnel wise, they don't have a ton right now.
- 12:25Speaker 5: So it's it's hard to kind of sit here, you know,
- 12:29Speaker 5: this early on and say what Buffalo is going to be.
- 12:32Speaker 2: They could be back, but I full I think that
- 12:35Speaker 2: we're one of the two best teams in the AFC East.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah, right, no question, and so I believe we
- 12:41Speaker 2: should be competing for this division. Now, yeah, is that
- 12:44Speaker 2: going to be ten wins because all four teams have
- 12:46Speaker 2: a down season? Is it going to require twelve wins
- 12:49Speaker 2: to win? I don't know, but I believe that we
- 12:51Speaker 2: should be competing for the decision.
- 12:54Speaker 4: I think that's fair, and I think the Buffalo situation
- 12:57Speaker 4: is also fair to talk about because of what Evan said,
- 13:01Speaker 4: the uncertainty they could. I mean, if you would ask
- 13:05Speaker 4: me right now. And it's hard sometimes to get in
- 13:08Speaker 4: the minds of these national guys, but my guess is
- 13:12Speaker 4: if you held their feet to the fire, these you know,
- 13:14Speaker 4: the ESPN talking heads, NFL Network talking heads, they would
- 13:18Speaker 4: tell you right now Buffalo is the favorite of the
- 13:21Speaker 4: AFC East.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Yeah, because they have Josh Josh.
- 13:24Speaker 4: All and the Patriots got you know, sort of embarrassed
- 13:28Speaker 4: in Super Bowl Sunday, Like if that was a closer game,
- 13:31Speaker 4: maybe it wouldn't be that way. But I think people
- 13:33Speaker 4: look at it up. Yeah, they kind of were what they.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Thought, you know, yea regress to the mean, and that's
- 13:38Speaker 1: probably what happened. I mean, the schedule is part of
- 13:40Speaker 1: it too. It's it's it's a beast next year They're
- 13:42Speaker 1: gonna play a lot of good teams. I mean, that's
- 13:44Speaker 1: what I'm most excited about. That regular season is gonna
- 13:46Speaker 1: be so fun to watch. I mean, almost every week
- 13:49Speaker 1: is going to be against a good team, maybe in
- 13:51Speaker 1: a tough location. I mean, you got to go into
- 13:52Speaker 1: Seattle next year. You can help it fun to watch. Well,
- 13:55Speaker 1: I mean, but at this point when you're saying, there's
- 13:57Speaker 1: not gonna be any more of those the scheduled excuses,
- 13:59Speaker 1: and I want Drake to continue to develop and year
- 14:02Speaker 1: three is not the end all be all of his career.
- 14:05Speaker 1: So this is going to be a great opportunity for
- 14:07Speaker 1: him to see even more of what he saw in
- 14:09Speaker 1: the Super Bowl against Seattle and good defenses and really
- 14:12Speaker 1: good teams and going against quarterbacks where I mean he
- 14:15Speaker 1: was lucky he's going against Sam Donald, you know, I
- 14:17Speaker 1: mean a lot of times you're going against Patrick Mahomes
- 14:19Speaker 1: or Allen where they're going to score touchdowns and you're
- 14:22Speaker 1: going to have to score touchdowns to keep up with them. Right,
- 14:24Speaker 1: So I think, you know, next year might not be
- 14:26Speaker 1: quite as you know, glamorous of a finish and getting
- 14:30Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl, but it also might be this
- 14:32Speaker 1: is the year where they really became a team that
- 14:35Speaker 1: can win big games against really good teams, against really
- 14:38Speaker 1: good quarterbacks, which, let's face it, even in the playoffs.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to get to the points. I'll also
- 14:44Speaker 2: be disappointed if I don't see improvement in the offense. Now,
- 14:47Speaker 2: whether or not that equates to fourteen wins again, I
- 14:51Speaker 2: don't know, but I want to see a consistent offense
- 14:54Speaker 2: that has answers against the better defenses. That doesn't mean
- 14:58Speaker 2: this goes thirty points, but they it's really hard. It'd
- 15:02Speaker 2: be really hard to just stifle the Patriots offense because
- 15:06Speaker 2: they have answers, they have different weapons in different places
- 15:10Speaker 2: that you know. So I'll be disappointed if the offense
- 15:14Speaker 2: doesn't take a step forward, even if it doesn't mean
- 15:18Speaker 2: because the defense is.
- 15:19Speaker 4: In pretty you know, they spent a lot of money
- 15:22Speaker 4: on defense last year and you saw I think the
- 15:24Speaker 4: fruits of it down the stretch when they really played
- 15:27Speaker 4: well in the playoffs. But offensively, they could probably use
- 15:31Speaker 4: a little bit of that attention that the defense got
- 15:33Speaker 4: last year this year, and yeah, maybe pushing the more
- 15:35Speaker 4: top a little bit.
- 15:36Speaker 5: Be more consistent moving the ball. You know, I think
- 15:39Speaker 5: they got a little bit big play, big play where
- 15:42Speaker 5: it was you know, they were the number one exposed
- 15:43Speaker 5: to play team in the league during the regular season,
- 15:46Speaker 5: and once that kind of dried up a little bit
- 15:48Speaker 5: with against the better defenses in the postseason, they weren't
- 15:51Speaker 5: really great at marching the ball down the field, Like
- 15:54Speaker 5: can we go on these ten twelve play drives where
- 15:57Speaker 5: you're just kind of taking bites.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I talked about it a lot on Tuesday. You know,
- 16:02Speaker 2: they've got to figure out the offensive line. If they're
- 16:05Speaker 2: gonna stick with Campbell to tackle, fine, but let's let's
- 16:08Speaker 2: get him in a program right away.
- 16:10Speaker 1: I just I think on offense, they're gonna have to
- 16:12Speaker 1: be kind of bold, Like it's just because you're gonna
- 16:16Speaker 1: have to maybe get rid of guys that you like
- 16:17Speaker 1: this year. I think like and then and that's all
- 16:19Speaker 1: on the offensive line. That's at the receiver position, Oh yeah,
- 16:23Speaker 1: you know, I just even the tight end position. I
- 16:25Speaker 1: mean not I think Hunter Henry will be back, but
- 16:28Speaker 1: I just think they're gonna have some hard decisions to
- 16:30Speaker 1: make where they might say, we're gonna have to take
- 16:32Speaker 1: a half step back at a certain position, maybe wide receiver,
- 16:36Speaker 1: maybe right tackle. But in the long run, we feel like,
- 16:39Speaker 1: you know, like Diggs is a good example. I mean,
- 16:41Speaker 1: Digg's a really good player. I thought he was great
- 16:42Speaker 1: this year. I was super impressed with him. Is he
- 16:44Speaker 1: still a sending? Are we going to get back to
- 16:46Speaker 1: the playoffs next year and feel like, well, this was
- 16:48Speaker 1: a one off for Diggs, He'll be better next year.
- 16:50Speaker 1: It's he's an older guy, you know, So at what
- 16:53Speaker 1: point do you say, gag, We're gonna have.
- 16:54Speaker 2: To be better spent elsewhere? You know. Rabel mentioned it
- 17:00Speaker 2: this week and you know little that we you know,
- 17:03Speaker 2: we interviewed him for the final episode of Fortune Fox
- 17:06Speaker 2: World this morning, and I don't think I think he's
- 17:09Speaker 2: basically said the same thing he said earlier. It's like
- 17:11Speaker 2: there's going to be changes. Yeah, and he's talking about
- 17:14Speaker 2: coaches and players because some guys are going to leave
- 17:17Speaker 2: for you know, better jobs.
- 17:20Speaker 3: And he he's not.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Intending to just run it back with the exact same roster.
- 17:26Speaker 2: He knows that there's going to be a lot of changes.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Yeah. You can't do that in any sport.
- 17:30Speaker 5: I feel like even you know, when you win a title,
- 17:33Speaker 5: even you have to you know, go out and add
- 17:36Speaker 5: and get another piece that's different than the year before,
- 17:39Speaker 5: change up the chemistry, I just offensively, I with the
- 17:43Speaker 5: offensive line.
- 17:44Speaker 3: You know, I wonder really what the big sticking.
- 17:47Speaker 5: Point to me is left card and center, Like, how
- 17:50Speaker 5: do they feel about Jared Wilson long term being a center?
- 17:54Speaker 5: And one of those guys at Deuce is talking about
- 17:56Speaker 5: Garrett Bradberry was one of the veterans and one of
- 17:58Speaker 5: the guys that was really well liked in that locker room.
- 18:01Speaker 5: But long term, is it going to make more sense
- 18:03Speaker 5: for Jared Wilson to be your starting center and not
- 18:06Speaker 5: Garrett Bradbury? And then obviously you have to go out
- 18:09Speaker 5: and find a left guard, which I think is probably
- 18:12Speaker 5: the quickest fix is to put like a solid established
- 18:16Speaker 5: left guard next to Will Campbell that can help him
- 18:19Speaker 5: out a little bit and make his life a little
- 18:21Speaker 5: bit easier. So that's a big one. Is you know,
- 18:25Speaker 5: you're going to have to probably upset the apple card
- 18:28Speaker 5: a little bit of that offensive line room.
- 18:29Speaker 3: That's what maybe get it better.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, who is a guy on the team that
- 18:36Speaker 2: isn't one of your you know, top top of your
- 18:39Speaker 2: depth chart guys, But you can't get rid of him
- 18:42Speaker 2: because he's such a good locker room guy. You know,
- 18:45Speaker 2: I'm thinking, like you know, people are going to probably
- 18:48Speaker 2: think this is blasphemy, But Matthew Slater, for example, you know, yes,
- 18:52Speaker 2: he was a superb special teamer, but he might have
- 18:55Speaker 2: been a better locker room guy, and that's a bit
- 19:00Speaker 2: reason why you keep him around.
- 19:02Speaker 3: I think Bradbury is the best example of that.
- 19:04Speaker 2: That's why I asked, because you brought that up.
- 19:07Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I think even Morgan Moses, but.
- 19:11Speaker 2: I think he's also one of your top depth.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, you know.
- 19:15Speaker 5: I think those two guys are a big reason why
- 19:18Speaker 5: the culture in the offensive line room changed this year,
- 19:21Speaker 5: not just to play on the field, but the attitude
- 19:24Speaker 5: and the approach off the field. But Morgan Moses thirty
- 19:27Speaker 5: five years old. What about Hollands, Yeah, Hollands is another
- 19:30Speaker 5: good one, you know.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Good example. I mean I don't love their receiving corps.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I mean I don't really. I'm not like passionate attached
- 19:38Speaker 1: to really anybody in that room. But I do like
- 19:41Speaker 1: what he brings and I think he's a little bit
- 19:43Speaker 1: of a model for me of what Drake likes. And
- 19:45Speaker 1: you know, clearly Drake under the rest on the Super Bowl,
- 19:47Speaker 1: who's he going to the most, He's he's looking for
- 19:49Speaker 1: Mac Collins.
- 19:50Speaker 2: So who's the one guy in the receiver room you
- 19:52Speaker 2: say untouchable?
- 19:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't think anybody.
- 19:55Speaker 4: I don't really, I don't have one, See I would.
- 19:57Speaker 2: I have high hopes for Booty. Yeah, I think he's
- 20:00Speaker 2: he's ascending every year, he's gotten better. And I think
- 20:05Speaker 2: you I'm not saying he's your one or two, but
- 20:08Speaker 2: having him as a three or four would be really Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 4: I'm not having any of those guys back. I just
- 20:14Speaker 4: if you're asking me untouchable, none of them are on.
- 20:18Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 5: I think that's the biggest problem with Booty is like,
- 20:22Speaker 5: if you go out and Shade Trade for a J. Brown,
- 20:24Speaker 5: then that's that's he's going to play in Booty's role
- 20:27Speaker 5: like that, he's going to get Booty snaps. So if
- 20:30Speaker 5: you're trying to upgrade the playmakers around Drake May, then
- 20:35Speaker 5: Kayshawn Booty is probably the most obvious one that's gonna.
- 20:38Speaker 2: So having Booty and a J. Brown on the field
- 20:40Speaker 2: at the same time is not good.
- 20:42Speaker 3: It's not not good. I just don't you know.
- 20:45Speaker 9: A J.
- 20:45Speaker 5: Brown, in my opinion, is a true X. Kayshawn Boody
- 20:48Speaker 5: has been playing the X in their offense.
- 20:51Speaker 7: You know.
- 20:51Speaker 5: I know there's a lot of people that talk about
- 20:53Speaker 5: his LSU days and playing a little bit more off
- 20:55Speaker 5: the line and in the slot, but plot, I don't
- 20:58Speaker 5: know if he's that guy anymore. You know, at LSU
- 21:00Speaker 5: before pre ankle injury, has got a different level of
- 21:03Speaker 5: explosiveness than what he has now. I'm not saying he
- 21:06Speaker 5: can't do it, but he's been playing on the outside
- 21:10Speaker 5: for his most of his NFL career, and that's kind
- 21:13Speaker 5: of where he's been.
- 21:13Speaker 4: I knew.
- 21:14Speaker 2: All.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Oh sorry, I'm just gonna say real quick. My question
- 21:16Speaker 1: with Booty is how much is Drake May's ability to
- 21:18Speaker 1: throw the ball deep accurate? I mean, he's got great hands,
- 21:21Speaker 1: no question he's had. Booty's had great hands since he
- 21:23Speaker 1: got here. But is he a product of Drake May?
- 21:26Speaker 1: How much percentage of his production is a product Drake May?
- 21:29Speaker 2: Because then you can get somebody who can do more.
- 21:31Speaker 4: I think you're getting a little defense, Like no one
- 21:33Speaker 4: wants to push Booty off the roster, Like that's not
- 21:35Speaker 4: what was you asked if anybody was untouchable, you know, so,
- 21:38Speaker 4: like I like the way Jamario Douglas played this year.
- 21:41Speaker 4: For the most part, he wasn't a huge part of
- 21:43Speaker 4: the offense, but when he was called upon, he generally
- 21:46Speaker 4: came through and made some place. Do you think that
- 21:49Speaker 4: he's still that guy or would you say, like your
- 21:52Speaker 4: guy Efton Chisholm is really knocking on the door and
- 21:54Speaker 4: wants to replace him. Is Kyle Williams a guy you
- 21:58Speaker 4: know we don't see behind the scenes. Is this a
- 22:00Speaker 4: guy that they think is really ready to break out
- 22:03Speaker 4: and be a huge part of the offense this year?
- 22:04Speaker 4: Does he push someone's roll, you know away like that's
- 22:08Speaker 4: you know, Matt Collins. I agree with everything Mike said.
- 22:11Speaker 4: He has that catch radius that certainly Drake tends to
- 22:14Speaker 4: look at and he likes throwing to the tall guys
- 22:17Speaker 4: and putting the ball out away from the frame, you know,
- 22:19Speaker 4: the body frame. Can you get better than that? Like,
- 22:23Speaker 4: I think any of those guys I'd be happy to
- 22:25Speaker 4: have back, But if they could upgrade any of them,
- 22:28Speaker 4: I would say you should do.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I think they need one new receiver at least. I mean,
- 22:31Speaker 1: I think they need one guy in the mix. And
- 22:32Speaker 1: they're all coming back. So that goes back to being
- 22:35Speaker 1: what's the how do you make a tough decision there?
- 22:37Speaker 1: And then they're all coming back. How who do you go?
- 22:39Speaker 1: Who goes? Who do you upgrade?
- 22:41Speaker 4: I just keep that phrase that he used Tuesday, you know,
- 22:45Speaker 4: younger and cheaper, Yeah, looking, you know, And that's the
- 22:49Speaker 4: reality that everybody has to understand. The reality of the
- 22:51Speaker 4: NFL is they're always you're always looking to get younger
- 22:54Speaker 4: and cheaper.
- 22:54Speaker 2: I think the one the person I have the highest
- 22:57Speaker 2: hopes for his booty that I see.
- 23:01Speaker 3: I kind of think this is Booty's peak.
- 23:03Speaker 5: Like I think that's really who he is, and that's
- 23:04Speaker 5: not it's not a bad peak, Like it's not I think, yeah, yeah,
- 23:08Speaker 5: but I think this is sort of I mean, we're
- 23:11Speaker 5: going on your what three year, four of his year?
- 23:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but you know that.
- 23:15Speaker 2: First year, I mean they were extenuating circumstances might have
- 23:19Speaker 2: stunted his growth. But I think not not not all
- 23:23Speaker 2: other people, but himself too. And he admits that.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:27Speaker 5: I just I just wondered, you know, his skill set, Like,
- 23:31Speaker 5: I feel like this is kind of pretty close to it.
- 23:34Speaker 9: Now.
- 23:34Speaker 5: Maybe he has a different level that you know, we
- 23:36Speaker 5: haven't seen yet. But if you're looking to upgrade at
- 23:39Speaker 5: wide receiver, and I'm I'm kind of with Paul like,
- 23:43Speaker 5: I don't need another kaish On Booty. I need a dog,
- 23:46Speaker 5: like I need a top dog in the offense. Because
- 23:48Speaker 5: they have kish On Booties, they have Matt Collins, they
- 23:51Speaker 5: have Kyle Williams as like the young guy that you
- 23:54Speaker 5: know is hopefully going to continue to ascend.
- 23:56Speaker 4: I think that's a big part of it. Kyle Williams,
- 23:58Speaker 4: I think, I mean personal, I don't know if he
- 24:02Speaker 4: has that kind of potential. But if I'm wrong and
- 24:05Speaker 4: he does, I think that has the potential to do
- 24:07Speaker 4: what Evan's talking about, to give you an explosive player
- 24:10Speaker 4: who's on the rise in you know, in year two,
- 24:13Speaker 4: you should be still getting better.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 4: I kind of agree about Booty. I like Booty. I
- 24:17Speaker 4: think he had a really good.
- 24:17Speaker 1: He's number two to Hollins for me. I mean, he's
- 24:20Speaker 1: right there, no question.
- 24:21Speaker 4: I think Boody had a good year. But I think
- 24:22Speaker 4: this is what he is like even in the second
- 24:24Speaker 4: half of the year he kind of tailed off.
- 24:26Speaker 5: Yeah, I just wonder if you know, if you're truly
- 24:29Speaker 5: interested in some of the top receivers in the market,
- 24:32Speaker 5: you know, and aj Brown at George Pickens, dow will
- 24:35Speaker 5: hit free agency, but if he does, you know something
- 24:37Speaker 5: like that, then that where you're gonna play him like
- 24:39Speaker 5: you know you're going to play him in all in
- 24:41Speaker 5: the in Kishon booty spot and so his digs now,
- 24:46Speaker 5: you know, back is he the number two receiver maybe?
- 24:48Speaker 5: And you know you kind of I think that's probably
- 24:51Speaker 5: better for him. Like where he would fit in better
- 24:53Speaker 5: is you know, kind of what he had in Houston
- 24:56Speaker 5: in theory with Nico Collins, kind of being the number
- 24:59Speaker 5: one guy in him sort of playing off of Nico Collins.
- 25:01Speaker 5: You know, that sort of thing I think is the ideal.
- 25:04Speaker 5: But that's not drafting a guy in the third round
- 25:06Speaker 5: like Kyle Williams and hoping it works out again, like
- 25:08Speaker 5: that's you gotta go invest in that. That's a big
- 25:11Speaker 5: trade or a big free agent signing or something like that.
- 25:14Speaker 1: It's just one other thing on the other side of
- 25:15Speaker 1: the all. Like I just I know they have holes
- 25:17Speaker 1: on defense. I feel really good about the defense though,
- 25:19Speaker 1: just I have confidence in the coaching staff, in their
- 25:22Speaker 1: style of play and the pieces that they still have.
- 25:25Speaker 1: I think they'll figure it out on defense, and I
- 25:27Speaker 1: think they're going to be really competitive on defense. No
- 25:29Speaker 1: matter how this often is.
- 25:29Speaker 2: If there's a choice between a top dog wide receiver
- 25:33Speaker 2: free agent or Max Crosby. You know who do you
- 25:36Speaker 2: go for?
- 25:37Speaker 3: That's the tough one.
- 25:38Speaker 1: The tough one. I mean, I honestly might come down
- 25:40Speaker 1: to age for me, Like I think, you know Max
- 25:42Speaker 1: Crosby still being in his twenties, I would probably lean
- 25:45Speaker 1: him over say a thirty one thirty two year old
- 25:48Speaker 1: wide receiver dog. I don't know who the names are,
- 25:50Speaker 1: but there's a lot of intrigue with ma Max Crosby.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I think he's a game changer.
- 25:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I think so. Are you talking about
- 25:56Speaker 4: like AJ Brown or Max Crosby? Yeah, because I would
- 25:59Speaker 4: go Max Cross every day twice on Sunday. But if
- 26:03Speaker 4: you're telling me I can get a true number one receiver,
- 26:07Speaker 4: that is like I kind of think AJ Brown's leveling off. Yes, sure,
- 26:11Speaker 4: you know, like Justin Jefferson. Yeah, gim me Justin Jefferson.
- 26:15Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, that's the best receiver.
- 26:18Speaker 4: You're saying it's gonna happen, fully recognizing that's a ridiculous hypotheticals.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I I I just can't get out of my head.
- 26:27Speaker 5: How good of a program fit Max Crosby would be
- 26:30Speaker 5: like I think Max Crosby and Mike Rabel are kindred spirits.
- 26:33Speaker 5: I think the way that Max Crosby works, his attitude,
- 26:36Speaker 5: his play style, like all of the above is just
- 26:38Speaker 5: like effort and finish.
- 26:40Speaker 1: You know, miss effort and finish.
- 26:42Speaker 2: The guy that, like.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Says, his alarm goes off at four fifty five am
- 26:46Speaker 5: and he drives the facility and is thereby six every
- 26:49Speaker 5: morning working you know, on his craft, working out in
- 26:52Speaker 5: the gym. Like that's the that's a program type of guy.
- 26:55Speaker 4: Sounds like me getting here and I just I.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Have crossword like I think love there's no I mean,
- 27:05Speaker 1: it's so obvious after this year, what do you guys
- 27:07Speaker 1: think about?
- 27:08Speaker 4: Because that continues to be like in the news, like
- 27:12Speaker 4: every day you go on you know, you click on
- 27:14Speaker 4: Twitter and you see something about Max Crosby. Today there
- 27:16Speaker 4: was a Florio piece sort of talking about some comments
- 27:20Speaker 4: and now he kind of seems like, you know, these
- 27:21Speaker 4: people were talking for me and they really shouldn't be
- 27:24Speaker 4: and blah blah blah. He knows, But where do you.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Do you read? I think he wants out. I mean
- 27:30Speaker 1: there'll be a lot of teams want.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Like one or two playoff games in his time with
- 27:34Speaker 5: the Raiders, and now they have another new coach.
- 27:37Speaker 2: I just I don't think it's an I've heard worse
- 27:40Speaker 2: conversations and then at the end it works out and
- 27:43Speaker 2: the player comes back and everything's fine. So a lot
- 27:46Speaker 2: of this is just negotiating on the part of the Raiders,
- 27:49Speaker 2: just you know, we're not going to trade them, blah
- 27:51Speaker 2: blah blah. How many times have we heard teams say
- 27:54Speaker 2: that and then they do and then how many times
- 27:57Speaker 2: have we heard a player say I hate this place,
- 27:59Speaker 2: I'm never coming back, and then they do.
- 28:01Speaker 4: Yeah with him.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I believe it, though, and I mean for good reason.
- 28:03Speaker 1: It's just been constant dysfunction there and this place looks
- 28:07Speaker 1: appealing because it seems like for the foreseeable future there's
- 28:10Speaker 1: gonna be stability here. And that's you know, when they
- 28:13Speaker 1: were in the playoffs, it just that's the movie. You
- 28:15Speaker 1: need goes back to me. For the quarterbacks. You're gonna
- 28:17Speaker 1: face great quarterbacks next year. You need somebody. You need
- 28:19Speaker 1: a dude next year, and that that is my biggest priority.
- 28:22Speaker 1: On the defensive side.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Of the ball is scary defense.
- 28:24Speaker 5: If you put Max Crosby with the secondary, that they've
- 28:27Speaker 5: put together.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't care.
- 28:28Speaker 1: I don't care who Elijah Pond or whoever's on the
- 28:30Speaker 1: other side. And you know, I bring back, you know,
- 28:33Speaker 1: bring back the Raiders defense from last year with Chase
- 28:35Speaker 1: on Andy.
- 28:36Speaker 3: I mean, does.
- 28:37Speaker 5: Max Crosby with Williams and Barmore push in the middle
- 28:39Speaker 5: of the pocket, like where's the quarterback?
- 28:41Speaker 2: And I know it is extending or you know, yeah,
- 28:44Speaker 2: it's extending right now. Gonzales urgent Is that an urgent
- 28:48Speaker 2: need to do?
- 28:49Speaker 4: And that's up to Gonzales, But my guess is, yes, Camp,
- 28:53Speaker 4: if you don't, it's going up.
- 28:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's a it's urgent because you don't
- 28:58Speaker 5: want to have what happened with Micah Parsons, where like
- 29:00Speaker 5: if you drag your feet on it, then it becomes.
- 29:03Speaker 4: It's a thing all off season.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah, and it becomes I have no knowledge of this.
- 29:07Speaker 4: I have not talked to Christian Gonzalez about this. I
- 29:10Speaker 4: just want to state that up front, but I just
- 29:13Speaker 4: kind of reading the situation. My guess is he wants
- 29:17Speaker 4: the money, and I think he'll become I don't think
- 29:20Speaker 4: you'll see him at like OTAs and whatnot and things
- 29:22Speaker 4: like that until if he doesn't get an extension.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean now, and you're paying him at the
- 29:27Speaker 1: high point. I mean, his stock is super high coming
- 29:29Speaker 1: off that Super Bowl, but it might only get higher
- 29:33Speaker 1: next year.
- 29:33Speaker 4: So you go all the way back to training camp,
- 29:35Speaker 4: right when he had the hamstring, and then people started
- 29:37Speaker 4: questioning it, right Jesus taking a long time for a hamstring,
- 29:41Speaker 4: And what was the sort of the line of thought was,
- 29:43Speaker 4: he's going to wait until he's fully healthy. So he's
- 29:46Speaker 4: playing his best football down the stretch and putting good
- 29:51Speaker 4: tape out there and then putting himself in a position
- 29:53Speaker 4: to maximize you know, Sauce and Stingley and those guys
- 30:00Speaker 4: they got like was it like four and one twenty Yeah,
- 30:03Speaker 4: something like that.
- 30:04Speaker 3: I think he's going to be going to get more
- 30:05Speaker 3: than that.
- 30:05Speaker 4: He's going to be that if the next if he's
- 30:08Speaker 4: the next one to sign, he's going to be the
- 30:10Speaker 4: highest paid corner in football.
- 30:11Speaker 3: It should be.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it should be.
- 30:13Speaker 4: I mean that's how it works. You know, I'm not
- 30:15Speaker 4: telling you he is the best corner, but he's the
- 30:17Speaker 4: most recent to sign, and when he signs, he's going
- 30:20Speaker 4: to come on.
- 30:20Speaker 5: The short list of the best corners in the league
- 30:23Speaker 5: and young athletic.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Some guys might like sort Tan, some guys might like
- 30:27Speaker 4: Stingley and whoever. You know, But he's in that conversation
- 30:32Speaker 4: and that's how it works. It's the most recent guy
- 30:34Speaker 4: gets the most.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Gonna have a T shirt with him jumping through the
- 30:37Speaker 1: air and like, you know, that's what he's gonna wear
- 30:38Speaker 1: to the facility every day.
- 30:39Speaker 4: I'm a little surprised that you don't have that on
- 30:41Speaker 4: a T shirt. You're dropping the ball, because that was
- 30:44Speaker 4: a great play and a great shot, like great pitches.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Especially watching I was up in that we were calling
- 30:48Speaker 1: at the L twenty two view because that was the
- 30:50Speaker 1: third to last round the stadium. But it was I mean,
- 30:52Speaker 1: I don't mind watching the game from that high because
- 30:53Speaker 1: you can see it and it was like, oh crap,
- 30:56Speaker 1: Like you could see JS and busting loose and then
- 30:59Speaker 1: Gonzales out of nowhere at the last second.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Makeup was speedway, And that's what I said about him before.
- 31:04Speaker 1: It's like, that's where you see his speed. It's not
- 31:07Speaker 1: it's not the like running with the guys. It's when
- 31:10Speaker 1: he takes a little bit of a hesitation or he's
- 31:13Speaker 1: able to make up the distance that's where the speed
- 31:15Speaker 1: at cornerback really, you know, especially with him trails trail tech.
- 31:20Speaker 5: Actually he's actually bailing.
- 31:24Speaker 1: But you're gonna have to play js N again next year,
- 31:26Speaker 1: and this is how the NFL is, and you've got
- 31:28Speaker 1: a superstar in house. I feel like with their track
- 31:31Speaker 1: history recently of extending guys, especially you know last year
- 31:33Speaker 1: when I extend a lot of their own guys, but
- 31:35Speaker 1: it shows that they value their internal guys. Whereas you
- 31:38Speaker 1: know Bill's regime, it felt like they were gonna squeeze
- 31:41Speaker 1: it as long as they possibly could to avoid.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Paying and then it'll be interesting Rabel's philosophy on that
- 31:46Speaker 2: when it comes to the elite contracts.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they Like I don't think Rabel was
- 31:52Speaker 5: sold on Gonzales to start the year, and I think
- 31:56Speaker 5: by questions I know, I think he got sold on.
- 31:59Speaker 3: Him at the end.
- 32:00Speaker 2: He's basically said.
- 32:01Speaker 4: That if you listened to about that comment after the
- 32:03Speaker 4: buffet of Baltimore, if.
- 32:05Speaker 5: You listened to him, uh like recent weeks compared to
- 32:11Speaker 5: what it was around the Baltimore game or before that,
- 32:14Speaker 5: the tone changed, Like now he's saying that this is
- 32:17Speaker 5: you know, I saw a different Christian Gonzalez, I saw.
- 32:20Speaker 4: I agree, and I just took it in a different way.
- 32:22Speaker 4: But that's what we'll see. Well, you guys are right.
- 32:26Speaker 5: I probably took it the same way you did, which
- 32:27Speaker 5: is that he didn't think he was playing very well before.
- 32:29Speaker 4: Or very hard.
- 32:30Speaker 5: Yeah right, and now he yeah, but now he's saying
- 32:33Speaker 5: that he flipped a switch.
- 32:34Speaker 4: And now I want to know, does he want to
- 32:36Speaker 4: give one hundred and sixty million dollars to a guy
- 32:37Speaker 4: who plays when he wants, right, that's my that's my fear.
- 32:40Speaker 4: And this is a mic Vrabel thing, not a Paul
- 32:42Speaker 4: Pearl thing. I would pay him.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're gonna have to play Drake next year probably, right?
- 32:47Speaker 1: Or is that?
- 32:47Speaker 4: Yeah? The same thing?
- 32:48Speaker 1: So bang bang, I.
- 32:50Speaker 4: Mean, assuming he has a regular third year, like he
- 32:53Speaker 4: doesn't fall off a cliff or get god forbid injured,
- 32:57Speaker 4: you know, yeah, he's going to be looking at.
- 32:58Speaker 1: So how can you maximize this last year with Drake
- 33:00Speaker 1: on his rookie contract?
- 33:01Speaker 5: You know, well, he'll have two more years because the
- 33:04Speaker 5: contract chicken until his fifth season. But yeah, I think
- 33:10Speaker 5: with Gonzales, like my biggest worry early on in the
- 33:13Speaker 5: season was him fitting into a scheme that plays as
- 33:16Speaker 5: much split safety zone as they are playing now, and
- 33:19Speaker 5: I think he got better and better and better at that.
- 33:21Speaker 5: Uh And really he's got much better at playing off
- 33:24Speaker 5: the ball and with his eyes in the backfield versus
- 33:27Speaker 5: just always impressed and always playing man. And like the
- 33:30Speaker 5: Super Bowl is a perfect example of that, because you know,
- 33:33Speaker 5: the big pass breakups weren't weren't really in man except
- 33:35Speaker 5: I think the last one against Cup might have been,
- 33:37Speaker 5: but the first two or his zone schemes, he's playing
- 33:41Speaker 5: off coverage in zone, and he looked like a much
- 33:44Speaker 5: improved player in those types of techniques. So that that's
- 33:49Speaker 5: I think where a lot of this is coming from
- 33:51Speaker 5: with Rabel is the attitude, the play demeanor obviously, but
- 33:54Speaker 5: also just him growing within the system too.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Fred Fred, I don't know if I tell you discovering
- 33:58Speaker 1: Hilly's on our TV right now. We of course interviewed
- 34:00Speaker 1: to or Radio Row. I saw it at the Super
- 34:02Speaker 1: Bowl pre party and she gave me a hug, and
- 34:04Speaker 1: I was like, it was the weirdest hug ever, because
- 34:06Speaker 1: she like I saw her, she recognized me, and like
- 34:09Speaker 1: it was kind of like this and I'm like looking like,
- 34:11Speaker 1: am I going to get tackled by like and I'm like,
- 34:13Speaker 1: am I hugging the Governor? I'm like, h like it was.
- 34:16Speaker 1: It was super awkward. It was super awkward. But she
- 34:17Speaker 1: was having a great time, so I was.
- 34:19Speaker 4: It was a little sits looking for security.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I thought I was going to get tackled by the
- 34:22Speaker 1: secret like is this cool?
- 34:23Speaker 2: Is all right?
- 34:24Speaker 1: Hi governor?
- 34:25Speaker 10: How are you?
- 34:26Speaker 2: She recognized, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I guess she had a
- 34:28Speaker 2: great time on our show.
- 34:29Speaker 1: Awesome, we did have a good time. That's good. That
- 34:31Speaker 1: was cool. I was really that was good.
- 34:33Speaker 2: That was a good memory from the super Bowl regardless.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Oh man, so many memories. I just came on my
- 34:38Speaker 1: phone to my wife and I'm like, here it is
- 34:40Speaker 1: just go through the pictures because it was one of
- 34:43Speaker 1: the advice I think Stacey told who was I talking to?
- 34:46Speaker 1: Is Alex making somebody? Just Stacy said, I've been to
- 34:49Speaker 1: so many seas, like take a lot of pictures because
- 34:51Speaker 1: it's it's all going to be a blur. And so
- 34:53Speaker 1: I tried to do that, and uh no, I was
- 34:55Speaker 1: just day after I happy with that. Everything.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Fred's anti picture read no time for cameras through.
- 35:02Speaker 5: Your phone, Like when we were at the after party,
- 35:05Speaker 5: I'm a big can I say that post Malone performed?
- 35:10Speaker 5: I'm a big post Malone fan, so I was really
- 35:12Speaker 5: excited for that. And uh, he actually played a lot
- 35:15Speaker 5: of his rap music too, which was great. And it
- 35:18Speaker 5: just the phones that were five hundred phones pointed at
- 35:22Speaker 5: the stage and I was like, I'm just there just
- 35:25Speaker 5: kind of you know, trying to be happy.
- 35:26Speaker 2: If you're at if you're at something cool like the
- 35:29Speaker 2: super Bowl or you know, Italy or whatever. Like I'm
- 35:33Speaker 2: all for like taking pictures of what you're seeing so
- 35:36Speaker 2: that you have member. What I don't like is taking
- 35:38Speaker 2: pictures of yourself at these places, Like what's the point?
- 35:42Speaker 3: You know?
- 35:43Speaker 4: Yeah, Fred's extremely anti.
- 35:45Speaker 1: I did and I'm not like I just I just
- 35:47Speaker 1: want little clips. I just like get little clips, little
- 35:50Speaker 1: picks here and there.
- 35:50Speaker 4: I didn't take a ton, but I do, you know,
- 35:53Speaker 4: and I have I have the scroll. I was showing
- 35:55Speaker 4: Mike a lot of shots from past super Bowl. It's
- 35:59Speaker 4: just like compare well, this was that party there and this.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Yeah, the park I went together. You know, it's like
- 36:05Speaker 1: night after night.
- 36:06Speaker 4: I got to say, these were good ones party, they were.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Paul was I just have to tell our crew you
- 36:10Speaker 1: didn't tell Paul was having the time.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's the happiest I've ever seen right up until
- 36:15Speaker 3: the game.
- 36:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I did. In all seriousness, it was a great week.
- 36:18Speaker 4: The weather. I think it was the weather. Yeah, I
- 36:20Speaker 4: think the weather really picked me up and gave me
- 36:22Speaker 4: a little rejuvenation.
- 36:23Speaker 5: As soon as as Beth got there too, like the
- 36:26Speaker 5: beaming girl that I was.
- 36:27Speaker 3: I couldn't believe it. I was like, who is this person?
- 36:30Speaker 2: I think I was in bed by eight thirty every night.
- 36:32Speaker 2: I know you you were fighting it though I was sick.
- 36:35Speaker 4: It just Mike and I just want to give you
- 36:37Speaker 4: an extra special thanks for sitting in between, I said,
- 36:40Speaker 4: radio row Boyeah.
- 36:44Speaker 3: I was in bed at thirty two.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Evan evyone was like, you know my son, Like everyone's
- 36:51Speaker 4: getting ready to go out at like ten, Yeah, I was.
- 36:54Speaker 4: I was going to bed.
- 36:55Speaker 1: The Super Bowl Sunday was the best weather. That day
- 36:58Speaker 1: was amazing. It was like hot that day. I mean
- 37:00Speaker 1: I watched most of the Super Bowl and a T
- 37:02Speaker 1: shirt like it was.
- 37:02Speaker 4: I mean at the pregame tailgate, Mike and I had
- 37:04Speaker 4: to get under the tents a while because the sun
- 37:06Speaker 4: was a little too hot.
- 37:07Speaker 1: I was dancing a little too hard.
- 37:11Speaker 4: Mike is hugging Mora.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I'm glad you. I'm glad you.
- 37:14Speaker 4: Had a good well the radio also, that's instruction. A
- 37:18Speaker 4: big part of my enjoyment of it is I you know,
- 37:21Speaker 4: as you know, I love this show. And to do
- 37:24Speaker 4: basically two times three times the amount that we normally do,
- 37:28Speaker 4: I thought was great. The four hours a day, it
- 37:31Speaker 4: was like, this is awesome.
- 37:32Speaker 1: But he did a great job bringing bringing in his
- 37:35Speaker 1: and oh.
- 37:35Speaker 3: You should have seen teas after the game.
- 37:39Speaker 4: I had I had a moment.
- 37:40Speaker 1: The Patriots players took the game harder than the How.
- 37:44Speaker 4: Many times have I told you that you'll be surprised
- 37:46Speaker 4: at the postgame party, you'll be the most oppressed guy there,
- 37:49Speaker 4: and that he was a dark player. He really was.
- 37:52Speaker 2: People said that we should have Felger on once a week.
- 37:55Speaker 1: That was fun. That was fun. I mean, you were
- 37:57Speaker 1: I mean, and you guys have had that before, right, like.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Oh that was nothing?
- 38:00Speaker 2: Oh man, well that was that was cordial.
- 38:03Speaker 1: It's interesting to just see his energy and you know,
- 38:06Speaker 1: and how it's you know, yeah, he's on.
- 38:09Speaker 4: What did I say to you? Just don't think you're
- 38:11Speaker 4: going to back him into a corner run. I never
- 38:13Speaker 4: would have Suddenly you're.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Gonna know, Felger, what about this?
- 38:17Speaker 4: You think you think you're.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Up, Like, no, it's an art form. But he's he's
- 38:24Speaker 1: he's really good at what he does.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I mean, we did four hours, we did sixteen hours,
- 38:28Speaker 2: but he does twenty hours a week and he's been
- 38:31Speaker 2: doing it for a sixteen years, every single week.
- 38:33Speaker 5: I'm not sure he's very good at debating. Yeah, I'm
- 38:36Speaker 5: not sure. I'm going to give him that.
- 38:37Speaker 3: He knows you know what he's talking about.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Oh, that's not the point.
- 38:41Speaker 4: But if you go and alas arguing with him, he
- 38:43Speaker 4: would let you talk. He was just because he's not
- 38:45Speaker 4: that's not what he does.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Yeah, but he's that's great. I don't care you'd be.
- 38:48Speaker 5: Like that's I mean, even Steven A conceded to him
- 38:51Speaker 5: on Radio Row and there I saw that interview in there.
- 38:54Speaker 3: He was like, you're really good at this.
- 38:57Speaker 1: Yeah. But for him to do that every week for hours,
- 39:00Speaker 1: which just I mean because we had a lot of
- 39:02Speaker 1: guests too, that helped us. There were four of us,
- 39:04Speaker 1: so you know it was you could spread it out
- 39:07Speaker 1: a little bit then to do that's the takes.
- 39:10Speaker 4: We keep moving around. We change, you know, because every
- 39:12Speaker 4: and Fred's really good at this not blowing smoke up
- 39:15Speaker 4: your behind. But we don't just do the same exact
- 39:18Speaker 4: thing every super Bowl. Like it's kind of you kind
- 39:21Speaker 4: of evolved, like we did this and that worked, and okay,
- 39:23Speaker 4: how can we make that better? We're going to do
- 39:25Speaker 4: this this time. We tried different things. This is something
- 39:27Speaker 4: we never really did before. Radio Row four hours, a
- 39:32Speaker 4: lot of guests, and I think it was a home run.
- 39:35Speaker 4: I would definitely if you know, when we go back
- 39:37Speaker 4: to La next year, Mike and we go to mor
- 39:39Speaker 4: and Burger, let's go, would I would definitely advocate only once.
- 39:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I know that was a regret of mine that
- 39:47Speaker 3: was coming.
- 39:49Speaker 1: It's a little hard to get to once we changed hotels,
- 39:51Speaker 1: and I mean we were eating good food every night
- 39:53Speaker 1: pretty much, so it was you know.
- 39:55Speaker 3: All right.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Eight five to five past five hundred is the Hotline
- 39:58Speaker 2: podcast at Patriots dot Com. Let's hear what you have
- 40:01Speaker 2: to say. We'll start with Danny and Tampa. What's up?
- 40:03Speaker 4: Danny?
- 40:05Speaker 11: Hey, what's up crew? How you guys doing today? Okay, okay,
- 40:09Speaker 11: so I just want to chime in on what you
- 40:10Speaker 11: guys just said.
- 40:11Speaker 12: The three first things.
- 40:13Speaker 11: First, I like the Max Crosby trade, but also the
- 40:17Speaker 11: cons of that. He's projected to take on over thirty
- 40:20Speaker 11: million in cap and right now the Patriots sit under forty,
- 40:24Speaker 11: so I don't know if I want to do that.
- 40:25Speaker 11: He also has been known the last couple of seasons
- 40:28Speaker 11: and have some injuries. He's pushing closer to thirty. I
- 40:31Speaker 11: don't know if that'll be a good idea. I like Crosby.
- 40:34Speaker 11: I think it'd be dynamic to get them, but you
- 40:36Speaker 11: have to think about those. The other thing that you
- 40:39Speaker 11: guys said about Christian Zalez, I like Gonzalez too, but
- 40:43Speaker 11: he tends to be like Trent Brown. He likets to
- 40:45Speaker 11: turn and switch on kind of on and off of
- 40:47Speaker 11: play when he wants to play, and I want to
- 40:50Speaker 11: pack the brink up.
- 40:51Speaker 4: I am, yeah, yeah, I just I mean Trent Brown's good, but.
- 40:58Speaker 3: Strong. That's a little strong.
- 41:00Speaker 4: Trent Brown when he turned it on was an average
- 41:02Speaker 4: run of the mill tackle when he turned it on.
- 41:06Speaker 11: You're right, I'll say that.
- 41:08Speaker 4: Christian Gonzales is one of the best three corners in football.
- 41:12Speaker 2: He is.
- 41:12Speaker 11: I think he's just almost as good as Patrick Susan.
- 41:15Speaker 11: But Gonzalez you've seen he was injured his first year,
- 41:18Speaker 11: no fault of his own, and then last year he played,
- 41:20Speaker 11: he balled out, and then this year he's kind of
- 41:22Speaker 11: been up and down. So I don't know if I
- 41:23Speaker 11: want to back the Brinks truckle to a guy that
- 41:26Speaker 11: I would make him play out next coming season and uh,
- 41:29Speaker 11: and you know see how he.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Does then, But what if he holds out?
- 41:33Speaker 4: These are the ones that I don't. I just don't
- 41:35Speaker 4: understand when you win a right Danny, when the draft
- 41:37Speaker 4: good players and you developed them and they hit and
- 41:41Speaker 4: then you're like, I don't know if I want to back,
- 41:42Speaker 4: Like I don't. The reluctance to spend money on the
- 41:46Speaker 4: part of fans. Now, I totally understand it from Robert
- 41:48Speaker 4: Crafts perspective. It's his money, his money, But yeah, the
- 41:51Speaker 4: fans that don't want to say like yeah, Like, I'll
- 41:54Speaker 4: give you a perfect example. You know who's overpaid on
- 41:57Speaker 4: the Patriots right now? In my view, Milton Williams, do
- 42:01Speaker 4: you have any regrets there? Nope. Twenty six millions a
- 42:05Speaker 4: lot for an interior defensive lineman who you know is
- 42:08Speaker 4: not necessarily going to get your double digit sacks. I
- 42:12Speaker 4: think you could not play any better than Milton Williams did.
- 42:15Speaker 4: I think he's worth every penny that they gave him.
- 42:18Speaker 4: But you know, did you have to give him twenty six?
- 42:21Speaker 4: Probably not, But that's what it costs if you want
- 42:23Speaker 4: to beat Carolina on the on the day of, you know,
- 42:26Speaker 4: the tampering period. That's what it took to pry him away,
- 42:29Speaker 4: and that's what it's going to take to retain Christian Gonzales. Like,
- 42:32Speaker 4: if you want good players, you got to pay him. Yeah.
- 42:35Speaker 5: It's actually you know, because I was tough on Gonzales
- 42:39Speaker 5: at times because I see you hear what Danny is saying.
- 42:41Speaker 5: But you know, he actually allowed a lower completion percentage
- 42:44Speaker 5: into his coverage this year than he did last year, which.
- 42:47Speaker 4: Is which is kind of like, as you guys know
- 42:50Speaker 4: how I feel about Gonzales, I often push back on
- 42:52Speaker 4: you guys about that. Yeah, but I also have eyes.
- 42:55Speaker 4: I watched the talent is right.
- 42:57Speaker 5: I think at times his his you know, I don't
- 43:01Speaker 5: want to question effort, but like you know, his effort was.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Maybe a little demeanor.
- 43:06Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, just makes Mike, I would say in
- 43:10Speaker 5: the run game, you know, like some of the time
- 43:12Speaker 5: when he was you know, asked to take on blocks
- 43:14Speaker 5: and stuff like that, but he's one of the best
- 43:17Speaker 5: player corners in the league by by far, and I
- 43:20Speaker 5: think that's debatable. And you know, to the Max Crosby
- 43:23Speaker 5: point too, and like maybe a little bit too caught
- 43:25Speaker 5: up in the cap, Like if they trade for Max Crosby,
- 43:28Speaker 5: they'll figure out.
- 43:30Speaker 3: The money and how to get the money around.
- 43:32Speaker 5: And there's one thing that I am definitely on Paul's
- 43:36Speaker 5: side of the street on and that is that the
- 43:37Speaker 5: cap is fugazi, Like we're.
- 43:40Speaker 4: The only thing with Max Crosby and I don't care
- 43:42Speaker 4: about the cap. Yes, you're right, but I think he
- 43:45Speaker 4: does have a thirty million dollar base salary guaranteed. Yeah,
- 43:49Speaker 4: so he ain't making less than thirty million this year.
- 43:51Speaker 4: He's not going to take less than that, you know.
- 43:53Speaker 1: I want to ask you guys about that, Nix and
- 43:55Speaker 1: I read an article yesterday on NFL dot com talking
- 43:57Speaker 1: about the teams that are, you know, probably in the
- 43:59Speaker 1: worst finance shape right now. And I'm not doing this
- 44:02Speaker 1: as like a blow. I'm generally just interested in like
- 44:04Speaker 1: what your response is. Because Buffalo was the second worst
- 44:07Speaker 1: in the league of their negative cap stays. They have
- 44:10Speaker 1: twenty seven free agents, a lot of impact players, And
- 44:14Speaker 1: I was like, well, is this is this when the
- 44:15Speaker 1: cap actually does matter?
- 44:17Speaker 9: You know?
- 44:17Speaker 4: Is this?
- 44:18Speaker 1: Because my answer, are they so you think they can?
- 44:20Speaker 1: I think it's the negative cat space.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Get back to what about cash overcap? Because they've got
- 44:25Speaker 2: that new stadium. Now, I don't know how much the
- 44:28Speaker 2: owners on the hook for that.
- 44:29Speaker 4: That would worry me.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Like how much is the out of pocket right thetadium?
- 44:34Speaker 5: I think he paid for half of it. That would
- 44:36Speaker 5: work mistaken. That's that's the biggest thing. Is you can
- 44:40Speaker 5: pay your way out of anything. You just have to
- 44:42Speaker 5: have the owner that's willing to do it. So all
- 44:44Speaker 5: these the negotiations and all the contract restructures and all
- 44:48Speaker 5: that stuff, whether it's adding dummy years or it's you know,
- 44:51Speaker 5: it's converting salary to signing bonuses or all the different.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Tricks, that cash has to be paid.
- 44:56Speaker 3: The money.
- 44:57Speaker 4: And that's what because Google might look at and say,
- 45:00Speaker 4: you know, I just this a big cash outlay for
- 45:02Speaker 4: this stay in and there's only so much.
- 45:05Speaker 5: The Saints have been doing it this way for years, right,
- 45:07Speaker 5: and I understand the Saints aren't like a model franchise
- 45:09Speaker 5: right now or anything like that.
- 45:11Speaker 3: But they're always cap compliant. They always find a way.
- 45:13Speaker 4: I read something ESPN had a I think Jeremy Fowler
- 45:19Speaker 4: put up all the non playoff teams in different tiers,
- 45:22Speaker 4: you know, like and they had their cap situation, and
- 45:26Speaker 4: he actually used it as a positive for the Saints
- 45:28Speaker 4: that they were only like negative twenty.
- 45:30Speaker 2: Something because they usually like they're.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Usually like negative eighty something at this time of year.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Now.
- 45:35Speaker 4: Tevin's point, they haven't been very good the last couple
- 45:37Speaker 4: of years, but there's always ways around it. The Bills,
- 45:41Speaker 4: I just they have.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And they got I know, and that's that they don't have, right, Like,
- 45:44Speaker 1: I mean, they got James Cook, they got Josh Allen
- 45:47Speaker 1: at all of her ish, but after that.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Like you know, so let's talk the AJ Brown thing,
- 45:50Speaker 4: Like that's a team that should be really going heavy
- 45:53Speaker 4: after AJ Brown. And you have to hope that he
- 45:55Speaker 4: has another couple of good years in them because I
- 45:58Speaker 4: think he's kind of leveled off a little bit. I'm
- 45:59Speaker 4: not saying he's done, because he's not done. You still
- 46:01Speaker 4: see he's capable of putting up big games, and what
- 46:04Speaker 4: would he be with a better, maybe more sophisticated passing game,
- 46:07Speaker 4: because I don't think they had that last year in
- 46:09Speaker 4: Philadelphia and with Josh Allen maybe you know, maybe Joe Brady,
- 46:13Speaker 4: you know, that continuity there.
- 46:15Speaker 5: I just think that was, you know, the salary cap
- 46:18Speaker 5: stuff like it. It's important to remember that it's not
- 46:22Speaker 5: it's not a you don't just divide the years by
- 46:25Speaker 5: the total value of the contract and that presents you
- 46:27Speaker 5: a cap number. I think you know, that's like the
- 46:29Speaker 5: way it is in hockey. Like if a player signs
- 46:31Speaker 5: in hockey for thus real care right, if the player
- 46:35Speaker 5: signs in hockey for six for six million a year,
- 46:38Speaker 5: their cap hit is six million dollars, Whereas in football
- 46:42Speaker 5: you can there's accounting that you can do the budget, so.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Makes one million in the first year, and after the
- 46:48Speaker 4: third year you cut him and you don't have to
- 46:49Speaker 4: pay the rent like them.
- 46:50Speaker 5: So if they signed, if they trade for Max Crosby,
- 46:53Speaker 5: they they're sitting right now at about thirty six million
- 46:56Speaker 5: dollars in cap space. It's not like you're going to
- 46:58Speaker 5: trade for Max Crosby and immediately he's going six million.
- 47:01Speaker 5: Oh right, but it's gonna have they'll figure out a way,
- 47:04Speaker 5: you know, to be creative.
- 47:06Speaker 4: Other guys around. Something giving me with.
- 47:10Speaker 1: The bill is probably to your window closed. It's just
- 47:13Speaker 1: the volume. There's twenty seven free agents and a lot
- 47:15Speaker 1: of you know, significant players, and so now you're talking
- 47:18Speaker 1: about not only rejiggering a bunch of contracts currently on
- 47:22Speaker 1: the field, but also having to re sign a lot
- 47:24Speaker 1: of guys who have been core contributors. So to me,
- 47:26Speaker 1: it seems like there might be a little bit of
- 47:28Speaker 1: a youth movement having to reinvest in the draft and
- 47:31Speaker 1: some of their you know, younger players. Yeah, I don't
- 47:33Speaker 1: know how it all works out. I know that there's
- 47:34Speaker 1: creative way to do it, but.
- 47:35Speaker 4: I just don't think it's an overly talented roster. So
- 47:38Speaker 4: like I think that twenty seven is probably a highly
- 47:42Speaker 4: deceiving number. There's probably a bunch of like Mikole Hardman and.
- 47:46Speaker 1: J Yeah, I know there are there are, But it's
- 47:49Speaker 1: also like the starting center of the starting guard, THENT Milano,
- 47:53Speaker 1: I mean, there's just another one significant.
- 47:56Speaker 4: The offensive lineman to me would be, you know, because
- 47:59Speaker 4: they have a good offer the line. I would want
- 48:01Speaker 4: to keep that together. The defense is aging and not
- 48:04Speaker 4: very good, so you have the young corners that you'd
- 48:07Speaker 4: want to keep you know, the Christian Benfords and those.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Kinds of guys.
- 48:10Speaker 4: You know, Matt Mulano, is it which one is their linebacker?
- 48:14Speaker 4: Terrell Dotson, Bernard Bernard he should be, he's a rookie contract.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I don't think he's.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Well, the thing with the Bills is they're paying Allen now,
- 48:24Speaker 5: and so when that happens with the Patriots, then it's
- 48:27Speaker 5: going to become a little bit more. Yeah, you know,
- 48:30Speaker 5: especially with the way that quarterback contracts are going these days.
- 48:33Speaker 3: And Alan's even kind of at a discount.
- 48:35Speaker 4: At this point money too. Like Fred's point, like, that's
- 48:38Speaker 4: cash it.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Is, But we saw it with Tom Brady. There's a
- 48:43Speaker 2: way to use that top contract is sort of equity,
- 48:46Speaker 2: and you use it almost as a home improvement loan.
- 48:50Speaker 2: So the player gets more money.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Yeah, when you know.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Up front, but you read rigorous contract to give you
- 48:58Speaker 2: space for other guys. They did that with Braid at
- 49:00Speaker 2: least twice, and you know, everyone's saying, oh, Brady's taking
- 49:04Speaker 2: this big discount. Every time they did that. He got
- 49:06Speaker 2: more money up front.
- 49:08Speaker 3: He also took a big discount.
- 49:10Speaker 4: That it took less. He took, he took less than
- 49:13Speaker 4: he could have gotten on the open market. But that's right.
- 49:16Speaker 4: They would take his salary and converted to an option
- 49:20Speaker 4: bonus and he would get it all up front and
- 49:22Speaker 4: that would allow him to spread it out, and.
- 49:25Speaker 2: That's what he would get the money in the pada.
- 49:27Speaker 3: This is you're right there, not a radio.
- 49:30Speaker 5: If we're being honest about it, they are giving another way.
- 49:35Speaker 4: I'm not going.
- 49:37Speaker 2: There was only a brief moment in his career where
- 49:39Speaker 2: he was the top paid quarterback in.
- 49:41Speaker 4: The which is this is the point I was just
- 49:42Speaker 4: gonna make. So he could have could have been the best,
- 49:45Speaker 4: the top paid player every year if he wanted.
- 49:47Speaker 5: Yeah, And it's also with inflation, like these quarterback contracts
- 49:52Speaker 5: are are ridiculously more money than what we were talking
- 49:56Speaker 5: about with Tom Brady. And even though the cap has adjusted,
- 49:59Speaker 5: it's that's still real money that's coming out of the
- 50:01Speaker 5: owner's pocket when they have to pay Drake May sixty
- 50:03Speaker 5: five million dollars And it's going to.
- 50:05Speaker 4: Be interesting to see how Drake May handles it. That's
- 50:07Speaker 4: how Tom Brady did, like he didn't have to be
- 50:10Speaker 4: the highest paid guy. My guess is whenever Drake May
- 50:12Speaker 4: signs his contract, he's going to be in that stratosphere.
- 50:16Speaker 1: But it's but with the other two quarterbacks too drafted
- 50:18Speaker 1: ahead of him, how does that all fit together? I
- 50:20Speaker 1: mean they're probably staring each other, right, who's right? Who's
- 50:22Speaker 1: staring each last?
- 50:24Speaker 4: We'll get the most him now and maybe you know,
- 50:27Speaker 4: one of these veteran guys will make more because these
- 50:30Speaker 4: guys will just be three years in, so I don't
- 50:32Speaker 4: know all the particular numbers from Mahomes and Allen and
- 50:35Speaker 4: those kinds of.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Guy, and then whatever they're making, when Mendoza's in his
- 50:38Speaker 2: fifth year, he'll make more than that.
- 50:40Speaker 5: I think it's crazy, Like how much of you know
- 50:42Speaker 5: those contracts age so well, like Mahomes and Allen I
- 50:45Speaker 5: think are in the fifties and like that's now jump change,
- 50:49Speaker 5: Like the Bills and the Chiefs are like super lucky.
- 50:52Speaker 4: Always tell everybody else is. And that's what happens to
- 50:55Speaker 4: the contract. Like Tua. The problem with Tua is not
- 50:59Speaker 4: his contract, it's his ability that left like he's not
- 51:05Speaker 4: very good anymore, Like Evan's so right, Like no one
- 51:10Speaker 4: regrets in Kansas City the money that they're paying Patrick
- 51:13Speaker 4: Mahomes or Josh Allen. These kinds of guys borrow Yeah,
- 51:19Speaker 4: like Patrick.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Mahomes only forty five million a year. You regret what
- 51:23Speaker 3: the franchise tag is.
- 51:24Speaker 4: You regret paying fifty million to Tua because he's not
- 51:27Speaker 4: very good, right, you know if he was good and
- 51:31Speaker 4: people would just say, oh, that's that's that's a good contract.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Let's go to Nick and Sacramento. Hey, Nick, Nick, Nick, Nick? Now, okay, goodbye.
- 51:43Speaker 2: I didn't want to talk to you either. Anthony's in Seattle. Hey, Anthony, Hey,
- 51:48Speaker 2: what's up my people?
- 51:49Speaker 13: Hello?
- 51:51Speaker 14: Hey guys, what the hell of a season?
- 51:53Speaker 4: Man?
- 51:53Speaker 14: Just so ridiculously fruitful. I tried to call in Tuesday,
- 51:57Speaker 14: couldn't get through. Obviously, everybody have the same thing in
- 52:00Speaker 14: mind that I did. Just wanted to express the just
- 52:03Speaker 14: the the the the the appreciation of what we just witnessed.
- 52:09Speaker 14: I think a lot of people they look at Patriots
- 52:12Speaker 14: fans as like we only celebrate, you know, Super Bowl
- 52:16Speaker 14: wins because of all the success of the franchise, and
- 52:18Speaker 14: they don't realize, like, we've got the ability the real fans,
- 52:22Speaker 14: the ones who you know are calling in the PU
- 52:25Speaker 14: and listening to PU and they are actually staying connected
- 52:27Speaker 14: to the team year round and can actually look at
- 52:30Speaker 14: it through an objective lens are able to appreciate what
- 52:32Speaker 14: we just experienced. And you know, listen, I don't want
- 52:35Speaker 14: to hold things up. I said, you know that I
- 52:37Speaker 14: called in after the when they sprinted into the late
- 52:39Speaker 14: buy and I said, this is the twenty twenty five
- 52:41Speaker 14: Patriots is one of my favorite teams. That has not changed.
- 52:45Speaker 14: I you know my final goal post that I moved
- 52:47Speaker 14: when I said, you know you wont fourteen games? Can
- 52:49Speaker 14: you just beat the Chargers. I won't ask for anything else.
- 52:52Speaker 14: You know that that hasn't changed. You know, house money.
- 52:54Speaker 14: I love what they did. And you know what I
- 52:58Speaker 14: what I would say is, uh, shoot, I left my
- 53:02Speaker 14: train of thought. You know what I just wanted to.
- 53:03Speaker 14: I just want to express myself like me, you guys man,
- 53:07Speaker 14: and uh you know, just a just a just a
- 53:09Speaker 14: heck of a season. And I'm looking forward to the future.
- 53:11Speaker 2: All right, Anthony, thank you for the call.
- 53:13Speaker 4: Keep fighting.
- 53:16Speaker 2: On the other hand, Nick and Nick and the Poconos
- 53:18Speaker 2: rights in, He says, I've heard on a few occasions
- 53:20Speaker 2: that Patriots fans are more intelligent than most fan bases
- 53:23Speaker 2: because we're engaged and can reference twenty years of winning
- 53:27Speaker 2: based on some of the fans that I see online
- 53:29Speaker 2: and some who call into the show. I'm beginning to
- 53:32Speaker 2: think that many are either stupid or entitled, maybe both, Eldred.
- 53:37Speaker 2: I enjoy your case, but not every six to five
- 53:40Speaker 2: receiver who can run fast and a straight line is
- 53:42Speaker 2: going to be a superstar Christian in La No one
- 53:45Speaker 2: cares how much money you make, and the majority of
- 53:47Speaker 2: your tastes are the dumbest thing I've heard since whatever
- 53:50Speaker 2: Stephen A. Smith said last to the guy who wants
- 53:53Speaker 2: to revamp the entire offensive line, please sit down and
- 53:56Speaker 2: let the grown ups talk. Your phone privileges should be
- 53:59Speaker 2: taken away for that take. The overreaction to the Super
- 54:02Speaker 2: Bowl is ridiculous. This team, in a rebuilding year, went
- 54:06Speaker 2: four and fourteen and three and made it to the
- 54:08Speaker 2: Super Bowl. No one besides Taylor Kyle's had them projected
- 54:12Speaker 2: above nine wins. This is a young team with room
- 54:15Speaker 2: to grow and a great coaching staff that can build
- 54:17Speaker 2: off a very successful season. The team is in good hands.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Settle the f down. Thank you, guys for all you
- 54:25Speaker 2: do and all the crazy fans you put up with
- 54:27Speaker 2: every season.
- 54:28Speaker 3: This is one of those times where being a big homer.
- 54:30Speaker 5: Actually guys like, hey, he said that out of you know,
- 54:35Speaker 5: let's be honest, a little bit of fandom.
- 54:37Speaker 3: And and then he ended up being right.
- 54:39Speaker 1: He got a new car for it.
- 54:41Speaker 2: But yeah, did you see that post he had about
- 54:44Speaker 2: investing in bitcoin? And then he bought this like one
- 54:46Speaker 2: hundred thousand dollars Mercedes.
- 54:48Speaker 4: He was hacked.
- 54:49Speaker 1: It was hacked.
- 54:50Speaker 2: Oh really, I gotta fell for it. It was d
- 54:55Speaker 2: I was looking for the little acting.
- 54:58Speaker 1: It was a DM to me, like he got like,
- 55:00Speaker 1: what's this d M? And I look on Twitter and
- 55:01Speaker 1: I'm like, Kyles, I'm like what, Like, I only.
- 55:05Speaker 2: Said that wasn't real.
- 55:07Speaker 15: No.
- 55:07Speaker 5: I texted our group chat and I was like, Taylor,
- 55:10Speaker 5: you're taking care of this or what?
- 55:12Speaker 3: And he was like yeah, I only believed.
- 55:14Speaker 1: That for a second because he doesn't have a car.
- 55:16Speaker 1: So that was why I was like, oh, like, you
- 55:17Speaker 1: finally got a car. I get why he's trumping it.
- 55:20Speaker 2: Things could be worse if he got hacked. He got.
- 55:24Speaker 3: And I say everything about Taylor Adam love. He's one
- 55:26Speaker 3: of my good friends.
- 55:27Speaker 2: Oh that's too bad.
- 55:29Speaker 3: There's the best.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Paul Taylor. I never him, No, no, no, you got.
- 55:36Speaker 2: Like I wish it was true.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess is playing this.
- 55:42Speaker 2: But it didn't strike me as the person who was
- 55:44Speaker 2: like a bitcoin and no, but you never know what
- 55:47Speaker 2: people Manad Adams was a great day trader, made a
- 55:53Speaker 2: lot of money day trading.
- 55:54Speaker 5: The only thing that he subscribes to his p f
- 55:57Speaker 5: F Ultimate and the rest of it is just yeah, noise.

- 58:28Speaker 10: Dietn't finished the job and obviously the emoctions are still
- 58:31Speaker 10: robbed like that, but a day later, do you have
- 58:33Speaker 10: a little bit of a different.
- 58:34Speaker 7: Perspective on that?
- 58:36Speaker 15: No, I mean really everything I said after the game
- 58:39Speaker 15: is kind of how I feel part of the team,
- 58:41Speaker 15: prod of part of the guys.
- 58:42Speaker 7: Uh and.
- 58:46Speaker 15: We'll let it feel this and you know it's uh yeah,
- 58:51Speaker 15: ten weeks still off, so uh, I'm gonna take some
- 58:55Speaker 15: It takes some time to relax and breathe a little bit.
- 58:59Speaker 15: But I mean all seasons really right around the corner
- 59:01Speaker 15: and get right back to it.
- 59:03Speaker 7: What's like for you on the big stage having such
- 59:06Speaker 7: a great game.
- 59:08Speaker 4: And I mean I wanted to win.
- 59:11Speaker 1: I wanted to be a champ.
- 59:12Speaker 10: So she just putting cool, you know what your contracts,
- 59:17Speaker 10: she's got to be talked about and tell them how
- 59:20Speaker 10: is that going to play out?
- 59:22Speaker 2: Just how are you thinking.
- 59:23Speaker 4: About great Stu?
- 59:28Speaker 7: I mean I'm not so much.
- 59:30Speaker 15: And there really alt trying to get into into.
- 59:33Speaker 7: All of that.
- 59:34Speaker 4: I mean, you know it's kind of more my agents.
- 59:36Speaker 15: They'll they'll do with that and and and keep me
- 59:39Speaker 15: up the speed on it, you know, coming in too
- 59:42Speaker 15: that I just wanted to see the guys.
- 59:43Speaker 13: You know, been hanging out with them a couple of time.
- 59:47Speaker 15: I mean it's the last time this this full team,
- 59:50Speaker 15: coaching staff, everything that you know, we'll be in the buildings,
- 59:53Speaker 15: so you know, focused on that. Just hanging out with
- 59:56Speaker 15: you guys one more time today, and you know, my
- 59:59Speaker 15: agency and Braves and all the will you know, they'll talk.
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: To you on it.
- 1:00:03Speaker 10: But there's no question you want to be here.
- 1:00:05Speaker 15: So yeah, no doubt this this where I got drafted
- 1:00:08Speaker 15: and and I don't want to be any ross how.
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: Much do you know?
- 1:00:12Speaker 7: That's all about winning with you?
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: But you felt like that was pat uniform.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: I mean, it's not really for me to decide.
- 1:00:22Speaker 7: Uh yeah, I want to.
- 1:00:26Speaker 15: I mean I want I know I just said it,
- 1:00:28Speaker 15: but I really just wanted to win. Wanted to you know,
- 1:00:31Speaker 15: have that yeah, that champion you know, to be able
- 1:00:35Speaker 15: to hold. But you know it's great we're able to
- 1:00:39Speaker 15: get there and in three years and in my third year,
- 1:00:41Speaker 15: but you know we'll be batter that's.
- 1:00:44Speaker 8: Just the fans, you know, thegree a lot before.
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I appreciate the support.
- 1:00:49Speaker 15: I'm glad we're we're able to give the city some
- 1:00:52Speaker 15: of the cheer about and uh, you know, proud to
- 1:00:55Speaker 15: be too, to be a patriots to.
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: Put on for this city.
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: Are ye, thank you so much, per ship.
- 1:01:08Speaker 19: Before we get started, I just wanted to say, uh,
- 1:01:12Speaker 19: I apologize about the other night not being available to talk.
- 1:01:16Speaker 19: Just had a lot of emotions obviously going after tough loss,
- 1:01:22Speaker 19: long year, just a lot of.
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: Emotions come with that.
- 1:01:27Speaker 19: I just want to make sure that I have my
- 1:01:29Speaker 19: head on properly before I said anything.
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: I didn't want to say anything that.
- 1:01:33Speaker 19: I didn't need to say, and I know that can happen,
- 1:01:36Speaker 19: especially with myself, whenever there's emotions involved. So just wanted
- 1:01:40Speaker 19: the night to sleep on things. Hopefully y'all can forgive
- 1:01:43Speaker 19: me and we can move past it. But I appreciate y'all.
- 1:01:47Speaker 19: I've enjoyed, you know, this year and look forward to
- 1:01:51Speaker 19: doing it again. So if y'all got a questions to shooting.
- 1:01:54Speaker 14: How tough was it to end this season the way
- 1:01:56Speaker 14: you guys?
- 1:01:57Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's not fun. Uh.
- 1:02:01Speaker 19: You know, you work forward to be in a moment
- 1:02:03Speaker 19: like that. Whenever you don't play well enough until you know,
- 1:02:06Speaker 19: get it done, it it stems. But you you learn
- 1:02:10Speaker 19: and you got to get back to work.
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: To you guys in this speech.
- 1:02:17Speaker 19: Uh, you know what, we built the foundation, but you
- 1:02:22Speaker 19: know we aren't done remodeling. And you know, just you
- 1:02:28Speaker 19: know that we did some great things this year. Uh,
- 1:02:33Speaker 19: and you know there's obviously a lot of improvement area
- 1:02:37Speaker 19: for improvement.
- 1:02:39Speaker 15: Uh.
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: And you know that's helped us to do. You mentioned
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: the emotions.
- 1:02:43Speaker 19: Just what types of things we're going through that night
- 1:02:46Speaker 19: and over the past thirties.
- 1:02:49Speaker 7: I mean, you know, the Super Bowl is a busy
- 1:02:52Speaker 7: game in sports. Uh.
- 1:02:55Speaker 19: You know, so whenever you use that, it's not easy.
- 1:03:02Speaker 19: So yeah, just disappointed.
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: What do you learn from it?
- 1:03:06Speaker 19: I mean I think you learn a lot just from
- 1:03:11Speaker 19: you know, not even just his name. You know, from
- 1:03:15Speaker 19: the season, you understand what it takes to get there. Now,
- 1:03:18Speaker 19: I think that's a big thing is you've got a
- 1:03:20Speaker 19: bunch of young dudes who have seen what it takes.
- 1:03:23Speaker 19: You understand how hard it is to get there. So
- 1:03:26Speaker 19: I think that'll be good for us. You know, you
- 1:03:29Speaker 19: just learned that. You know, your best football has to
- 1:03:31Speaker 19: be played when it's needed, and you know we didn't
- 1:03:34Speaker 19: do that and we can't change it now, but we
- 1:03:38Speaker 19: can learn from it.
- 1:03:39Speaker 8: I know you don't give a bleep about social media
- 1:03:41Speaker 8: what have you, but there's a lot of people out there,
- 1:03:43Speaker 8: but there's a lot of also a lot of current
- 1:03:45Speaker 8: players in the game tackles and what have you, in
- 1:03:47Speaker 8: the future Hall of famers talking about you, saying, hey,
- 1:03:50Speaker 8: back off a little bit.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: Let the kid learn.
- 1:03:52Speaker 7: He'll get better and better.
- 1:03:53Speaker 19: Yeah, I mean it comes with the job when you
- 1:03:57Speaker 19: don't perform. Obviously, I was tick high paid a lot,
- 1:04:04Speaker 19: so people expect a certain thing, and I expect more
- 1:04:07Speaker 19: of myself. So whenever I don't perform, I don't expect,
- 1:04:12Speaker 19: you know, everyone to be like, it's okay, buddy. I mean,
- 1:04:16Speaker 19: obviously it sucks, but it doesn't suck for anyone more
- 1:04:20Speaker 19: than it sucks for me.
- 1:04:21Speaker 14: What are some of the messages your teammates and maybe said?
- 1:04:23Speaker 7: Do you lost live in traffic?
- 1:04:24Speaker 10: Yell?
- 1:04:25Speaker 19: I mean it's well, you know, I have a lot
- 1:04:30Speaker 19: of great veterans, but everyone could have done more with
- 1:04:32Speaker 19: I think that's something we all talked to each other about.
- 1:04:35Speaker 19: It was never a point in the finger that anyone got.
- 1:04:39Speaker 19: I think it's just you know, how can we learn
- 1:04:43Speaker 19: from it? How can we get better?
- 1:04:45Speaker 7: And yeah, will exp from cooling off.
- 1:04:49Speaker 20: What's the difference between a guy who is in the
- 1:04:51Speaker 20: locker room after the game in the one Now, what
- 1:04:53Speaker 20: perspective have you give.
- 1:04:54Speaker 19: Up the game?
- 1:04:56Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 1:04:56Speaker 19: I mean, I'm I'm not gonna give an these sound
- 1:05:03Speaker 19: bites today, but you know, uh, the guy in the
- 1:05:08Speaker 19: locker room is a young man who has a lot
- 1:05:15Speaker 19: of emotions, who probably doesn't care what he says.
- 1:05:19Speaker 7: Uh uh.
- 1:05:24Speaker 19: I don't think the best way to say this when
- 1:05:26Speaker 19: I when I get emotional and I have no mind,
- 1:05:30Speaker 19: and that's not the way that I need to approach
- 1:05:33Speaker 19: this thing. And like I said, I know myself and
- 1:05:37Speaker 19: if I would have spoken after, I would have said
- 1:05:41Speaker 19: home that I didn't need to say so I slept
- 1:05:44Speaker 19: on it.
- 1:05:45Speaker 7: I watched it. I know what I gotta get better
- 1:05:48Speaker 7: at and move on. When you when you watched it,
- 1:05:51Speaker 7: what what do you need to get better at it? Yeah?
- 1:05:53Speaker 19: I mean, I don't think one performance defines a season.
- 1:06:00Speaker 19: I think I did some good things this year. Obviously,
- 1:06:04Speaker 19: there's room for growth in every aspect of my game.
- 1:06:07Speaker 19: I'm twenty two years old. I have a lot of
- 1:06:09Speaker 19: room for growth in every aspect as a player, as
- 1:06:13Speaker 19: a leader, whether that's strength and conditioning, passportation, roun blocking,
- 1:06:20Speaker 19: whatever it might be. I have growth for every everywhere.
- 1:06:24Speaker 19: I'm young, I'm learning. I got a great coaching staff
- 1:06:27Speaker 19: around me. I got great veterans around me, so I'm
- 1:06:32Speaker 19: grateful for that, and I'll be ready to go when
- 1:06:34Speaker 19: we get better.
- 1:06:35Speaker 20: I imagine this was fun, But you're the only one
- 1:06:38Speaker 20: who knows the answer of what it was like rewatching
- 1:06:39Speaker 20: that game, assuming that was yesterday, What was that.
- 1:06:42Speaker 17: Like for you?
- 1:06:43Speaker 19: Damn? I mean, we didn't deserve to win the way
- 1:06:48Speaker 19: we played on offense. Our defense played played well. I mean,
- 1:06:54Speaker 19: Gonzo played outstanding. Our defense players enough for us to
- 1:06:58Speaker 19: win the game, and we didn't help them. So you know,
- 1:07:02Speaker 19: it sucks to go into the off season and have
- 1:07:04Speaker 19: this much off time. Uh, with that chaste in her mouth.
- 1:07:08Speaker 19: But I think I think it will feel some guys
- 1:07:13Speaker 19: me included to you know, from it, get better and get.
- 1:07:16Speaker 7: Ready to go with you.
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: And now great moments in.
- 1:07:24Speaker 7: History.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: You girl talking about what's the what's the update?
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: What's the update?
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Diana?
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: Let me you know, we should probably take a break
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: so we can hear this breaking news. Her talking about
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: Doug Marron's job.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: Right, like her jumpsuit, she looks good.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I'm glad, oh, Brian, I'm glad we have female representation.
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: Furthering women in sports for generations to come.
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: Like a jumpsuit.
- 1:07:49Speaker 8: That's another great moment from well.

- 1:09:03Speaker 2: your errands. I've heard a lot of people they call
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: them snow throwers now instead of snow blowers. Have you
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: heard that.
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: Throw more acceptable?
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: I thought there were different things. But maybe, oh really,
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: maybe not. I don't know.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: Maybe well maybe when they're talking about that, I thought
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: they were talking about snowblowers.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know that one.
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: We'll have to ask Maserati.
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: He's the expert.
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, talk about videos and whatnot.
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, excuse me, but he's not hacked. He does
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: it on purpose. That that's that is wild. So tailor
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: good hacked.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Huh he did?
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: That is too bad?
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: It does seem I was.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: I was like, wow, I was jealous. I was like, man,
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: I should have invested in bitcoin. I was going to
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: give yourself one hundred.
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: But as soon as I saw the car, I was like,
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: this can't be.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Isn't bitcoin doing really bad?
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: Right now?
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: I thought, this is well, it.
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: Depends on when you got out, you know, like people
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: made a lot of money on crypto and people lost
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: a lot of money on Yeah, it's kind of all right.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: Back to the phones, Nick and Connecticut. We could hear you.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: I guess we can't Nick, Nick in Connecticut class started Nate.
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: Maybe that's why he didn't answer.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: It's not me.
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: Uh, SPE's it fresh? Now? What's up, speed Brad?
- 1:10:25Speaker 21: Those were great reads, especially the Bob's one.
- 1:10:28Speaker 4: Good Energy.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Good Energy, but listen, you got to bring it for
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: your sponsors.
- 1:10:34Speaker 21: Hell yeah. Also that mob jumpsuit thing, it's prett hilarious.
- 1:10:43Speaker 21: I love them. I like the fact that Dead Drake
- 1:10:46Speaker 21: gets all these playoffs maps, you know, the racking up
- 1:10:49Speaker 21: the experience and kind of getting a sense of what
- 1:10:51Speaker 21: it takes to win in the playoffs. But I got
- 1:10:54Speaker 21: that lingering question.
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: And we talked about during the.
- 1:10:56Speaker 21: Regular season about the clutch Jeens thing, and I so
- 1:11:00Speaker 21: badly want to understand how injured he was, like how
- 1:11:04Speaker 21: much that contributed to the lackluster postseason as opposed to
- 1:11:08Speaker 21: just not rise into the occasion regardless of the offensive line.
- 1:11:11Speaker 21: I mean, I don't think that Brick rose the occasion
- 1:11:15Speaker 21: and it was that knock on him coming out of college.
- 1:11:17Speaker 22: Why did he win more?
- 1:11:18Speaker 21: I just think that this question of whether he has
- 1:11:20Speaker 21: a clutch gene is primary unknown for the whole team
- 1:11:25Speaker 21: going forward. I don't know if you guys, I don't
- 1:11:27Speaker 21: know if you got how you guys stand on that now?
- 1:11:29Speaker 21: Are you still uncertain whether he's got it? Or are
- 1:11:32Speaker 21: you certain one way or the other? Just wanted to
- 1:11:34Speaker 21: check it on that.
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: I think it's fair to say it's still unanswered incomplete.
- 1:11:39Speaker 5: I think he just to me looked like a guy
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: that lost a lot of his confidence because he was
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: getting beaten down by good defenses.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: And I just one of the things.
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: That I've been thinking about, along with what Josh McDaniels
- 1:11:51Speaker 5: was doing and the Super Bowl, is like he in
- 1:11:54Speaker 5: the regular season, he was playing with like no fear
- 1:11:59Speaker 5: in terms of like testing downfield windows, moving around the pocket,
- 1:12:03Speaker 5: you know, the skipping rips and all these.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Difference make it look easy, yeah, that he was doing.
- 1:12:08Speaker 5: And like even though the windows are probably tighter and
- 1:12:11Speaker 5: closed faster and all that stuff against these better defenses,
- 1:12:14Speaker 5: Like he was just ripping throws in the regular season
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: with no fear of turning the ball over or going
- 1:12:20Speaker 5: sideways or anything like that. And I just felt like
- 1:12:23Speaker 5: he got so careful and so calculated in the postseason
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: that I don't know if that's the way that he's
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: able to play. Like, I think he needs to play
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: with a little bit of that gunslinger, reckless abandon and yeah,
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: that might lead to some turnovers, but probably the fumbles
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: is what ultimately got in his head a little bit.
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: And it just to me that it's more that than
- 1:12:45Speaker 5: does he have it or is he clutch or like
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: all that kind of like intangible or it.
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: Could be that it was actually easy for him in
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: the regular season and partly maybe because of who he
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: was playing, and when things got a little tougher, He's
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: not quite ready to deal with that yet. He's not
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: a finished product yet.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: Yeah, And I know this is not how you want
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: to live.
- 1:13:05Speaker 5: But like the throw on the incut to Matt Collins
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl was probably
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: the best throw either quarterback made in the entire game.
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: You know, those types of throws were the types of
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: throws he was going to have to make against that
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: kind of defense, and it took them being down nineteen
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: to nothing in the fourth quarter when the game kind
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: of was.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: Right But also what was the other team doing at
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: that point?
- 1:13:27Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: Well, that's what I'm either way, you know.
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: But like the point I'm getting at is is like
- 1:13:33Speaker 5: he was playing with that kind of confidence and that
- 1:13:36Speaker 5: sort of just bravado that he could fit the ball
- 1:13:38Speaker 5: anywhere into any window at any time, and then as
- 1:13:42Speaker 5: the playoffs kind of progressed, he sort of lost that
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: and I think that was a big He looked gun shy.
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, And I don't know if it's vr,
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: but to me, he's got all the talent. So that,
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: to me, that's in the bank. If you're a Patriots fan,
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: you can be sure that we have a quarterback who
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: could make all the throws and he's got the legs.
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: What we not quite sure yet is upstairs, like how
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: good is he going to be in those most critical moments.
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: How good is he going to be when the pressure
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: on him is the highest And I'm talking about you know,
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: defensive pressure. We don't know that and it's hard to
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: You can't really prepare for that in the off season,
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: right Like you can knock about it and simulate it
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: if a little bit, but it's not the same as
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: being in regular in real games.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: And he didn't really play a lot of big games
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: in college either. I mean, yeah, you know, I think
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: we're somewhat the view is distorted because you saw Tom
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Brady and Patrick Mahomes have you know, been the most
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: recent quarterbacks to do this, and they kind of came
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: right in the league and took it by storm right
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: out of the gate. You know, maybe a guy like
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts who went to a Super Bowl didn't win it.
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: I mean, Jessicaubbard still doesn't want to playoffs, right and
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: people are consider him to be one of the more
- 1:14:56Speaker 5: talented quarterbacks in the league.
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: But a choker, that's what that's it. That's his mentality.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: I mean, that's his becoming thing.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: That's his story right now, and he's got to do it.
- 1:15:07Speaker 4: And this is going to be another one of those.
- 1:15:10Speaker 4: No one's going to really pay much attention to him
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: next season until he does it in the playoffs, you know,
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: until in the less.
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: I just I just wonder, how do you get Drake
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: May to play with the same confidence and the same
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: just the free mentality of like the arrogance if I
- 1:15:29Speaker 5: can just make any throw anywhere anytime that he played
- 1:15:32Speaker 5: in the regular season with like, how do they get
- 1:15:35Speaker 5: that out of him playoffs experience?
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: It is experienced.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: So many of callers said that, and that's you know,
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: seeing him go through these games. And I saw a
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: terrible tape from EI that they would have rather not
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: made it to the super Bowl. But you know, to
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: be able to have go into a super Bowl and
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: understand what that's like and all the pressures and how
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: different it is.
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: I'm intrigued by this.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: I don't even know which one it was. It was
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: one of the people behind him.
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: I say this all like you would you because it's
- 1:15:59Speaker 5: hard break, you know, to make it all the way
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: to the super Bowl and lose.
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: I know, I know, I think if it was like
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: an actual take, then that's I.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Think it was fits. I mean, I didn't I don't know,
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: but I think it was something he was posing.
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: There was a line of thought that they would rather
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: have lost earlier in the playoffs than in the super Bowl.
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: That just doesn't mean. It's like another one of my
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: favorite punching bags. And I love him and I tell
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: him every time when I'm dumping on them Ben Vollen, Right,
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: his big thing was always like, well, Montana was four
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: and oh in the super Bowls, and you know Brady's
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: got Yeah, Brady's better, Brady's more the Brady's record in
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: the super Bowl is more impressive. Seven and three is
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: better than four and oh. Because what he never ever
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: alludes to is let's do all the playoff rounds. So
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: you're telling me it's better to lose in the Wildcoud
- 1:16:56Speaker 4: round or the divisional round than the super Bowl?
- 1:16:59Speaker 7: Right?
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: How was that?
- 1:17:00Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: Rather you lose than like the silver medalists, which doesn't
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: makes no sense.
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: Right'd rather not metal then then come and be the
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: runner up. It's just I never understand that mentality and
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: this whole like, you know, because it broke our heart,
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: like it's not about you bro gots, like thank god.
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: And that's what you hope. I mean everything we said
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: and Evin said about his performance in the Super Bowl.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Study that look at that, look at the contrast between
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: when you were just you know, I forget what game
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: they were playing. Somebody said, he's almost too comfortable back there.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: Maybe it's the Chargers playoff games. One of the defensive
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: lineman pass rushers said, he made is almost too comfortable,
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: and like, well, that's a bad thing, you know, but
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: this point, you know, it got to be.
- 1:17:41Speaker 4: And that's what the sacks pile up and the fumbling.
- 1:17:44Speaker 4: When he talked about the fumbles, you know, twenty one
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: sacks and what seven fumbles. Yeah, that's probably at least
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: partially due to him being a little bit too comfortable.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: And then yeah, I think it.
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: Then it then snowball, but he started getting hit. I
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: agree with that, and you could see it.
- 1:18:01Speaker 5: I just don't think that he had the same you know.
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: One of the words that I phrases I loved with
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: Drake May when he's on a people call him Rogan
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: like he's like he literally thinks that he can fit
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: the ball into any window at any time. And that's
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: the type of way that he has to.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Play and out run any defense.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: Yeah, right, because I.
- 1:18:18Speaker 5: Think he needs to play with that mentality that I'm
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: Superman and like, yeah, they are a great defense, but
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: I'm better. And at once the playoffs rolled around and
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: he was getting beaten down by Houston and Denver, and
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: he almost is like the doubt like started to creep
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: into his head that maybe I'm not better than these.
- 1:18:35Speaker 4: Let me ask just one one thing you guys about
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: Let me ask use guys, uh use guys. He has
- 1:18:45Speaker 4: often made the comment about not wanting to be a
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: checkdown Charlie, and I think we all agree that we
- 1:18:51Speaker 4: like that because we like the big playability. But does
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: he need to be a little bit more of the
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: check down Charlie. At times the tirike about, yeah, if.
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: They had checked downs for him to throw the ball.
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: Okay, I didn't mean to trigger you. I'm all of
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: a sudden He's just not going to be on Josh's
- 1:19:09Speaker 4: Christmas card list. But the reason I say it is
- 1:19:14Speaker 4: all the talk about sort of big play dependent and
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: you know, I think there was a line there, like
- 1:19:20Speaker 4: in November ish where the big plays kind of tailed off,
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: and then in the playoffs, you know, there was very
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: very few exceptions they kind of went away. Is that
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: maybe why, like they're constantly looking for it. Teams have
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: known that, and you know, it's a little harder to
- 1:19:39Speaker 4: do it.
- 1:19:40Speaker 13: Well.
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: I mean, they certainly saw a lot of split safety,
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: you know, and they're going to keep seeing that throughout,
- 1:19:45Speaker 5: I think his entire career. And you know, they're cloud
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: in the field, so they're putting a safety over the
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: top of you know, the three receiver side. Usually they're
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: you know, three by one traditional dropbacks, and they were
- 1:19:57Speaker 5: doing that all all playoffs and I remember, I want
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: to say it was after the Texans game, he said
- 1:20:02Speaker 5: that they played cloud, which you know, corner underneath safety
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: over the top like a little bit more than they
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: were expecting, and they're just not going to give him
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: the deep ball.
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: You know, these defenses are in the playoffs.
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: Are when they answer when they go to game plan,
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: and they're going to say that two things that were
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: going to take away are his legs and the deep ball,
- 1:20:21Speaker 5: you know, like that that's it. We're going to turn
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: him into Brady Like he's gonna have to be precise
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: and he's.
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Got to be hard and yeah, and that's what the
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: opposite was. I feel like with like the twenty ten
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: to twenty eleven Patriots when Rex Ryan started doing all
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: that stuff to take the short stuff away and they
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: just couldn't.
- 1:20:35Speaker 4: I mean, then over the top and slammed down.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: You got we're done.
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: But Danny would drive two.
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: Of Drake that sheltered or innocent is the right word.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: But you know, it's just grew up in North Carolina,
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: married his girlfriend. You know, it's like this is the
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: first time where he got his ass handed to him
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: by a bunch of dudes, you know, like, and I
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: can't help but think that.
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: I mean defense a little bit dude to but yeah, yeah, day,
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: I want to say it's organ in the one of
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: the big Bowl games he played in his sophomore season.
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: Then did he play bow knicks and.
- 1:21:12Speaker 3: They got whooped.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, but I hear you.
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: It's it's the first time by grown men.
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: It's a maturity process too, you know. And that's I
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: think sometimes we get carried away. Going back to the
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Brady Mahomes, is that guys come out and do it
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: right away, and you think, oh, they don't do it
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: right away, they're not going to do it. But some
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: guys are young. They need to get their ass handed
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: them a couple of times and you know, start to
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: toughen up and start to understand how I have to
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: beat these teams and really to me the resilience that
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: you're going to have to have in these games. Because
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: as much as he got killed in that game, I
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: think we all know if we felt like Tom Brady
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: was out there, we'd be like, oh man, they're going
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: to make a run, Like this isn't enough for Seattle.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: Sale's got to do more. Brady's going to figure it
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: out at some point. You've got to get to that
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: point with Drake Man.
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: That's probably the best thing that I saw Sunday from
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: Drake May was his yeah that's touchdown. Well, not necessarily
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: any because I'm with fred I you know, I I
- 1:22:00Speaker 4: think there was a little bit of game game scenario
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: that allowed them to get some offense going. But he
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: easily could have stayed down on one of those hits
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: and said, you know what, this ain't my day. He
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: kept he kept at it, you know, he kept fighting.
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: I do think he showed some signs and I think
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: Rabel was on him. Yeah, it was like a clip.
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: I don't know if you saw about you know, to
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: pick your head up, you know, you know, look at
- 1:22:25Speaker 4: look at me or something like that. You know, there
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: was some cajoling along the way, but that was the
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: best thing to me that came out of Drake may Is.
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: Yeah he kept he kept fighting. Yeah he kept at it.
- 1:22:38Speaker 4: And you know, to answer SPIE's original question that started
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: all of this, we don't know yet, but I don't
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: feel like at twenty three, I'm not overly concerned about
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: anything yet.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: He's got all the tools yet. And I love Rabel
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: being the coach for this. Like Rabel is one of
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: those dudes. Rabel was that guy, like the Seattle defense
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: that was torture Kurt Warner and Jake Diloan in the
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: Super Bowl. So you hope that they said a lot
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: of quarterbacks take on the personality their head coach, Like
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: I hope some of that rubs off on Brabel because
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Vrabel is a tough guy and he knows what it
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: takes to win those games.
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: James Pettigrew, the most interesting Patriots fan in the world,
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: has some blame that he wants to, you know, me
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: distribute accusingly assignment for blame for the Super Bowl loss.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Fans two point five percent me wore the wrong T
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: shirt shows the unfiltered te over a dark blue forty
- 1:23:34Speaker 2: seven brand tea. Others may have made this mistake too.
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: Two point five percent Christian in LA and five percent
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: all other fans, the PFW crew zero percent Paul and
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: Fred that's self explanatory. Five percent Mike will talk in
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: person with Mike about this in the jungle believe five
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: percent Alex too much smiling during the week in day
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: of Super Bowl not locked in ten percent Evan distracting
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: Drake all season with locker room loitering. You're a lingerer,
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: Evan twenty percent Tom Brady ten percent she who shall
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: not be named. We all know who I'm talking about.
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: Twenty percent NFL Goodell probably seven point five percent NFL
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: and twelve point five percent Goodell and then the team
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: five percent Verybo five percent Drake, five percent Josh and
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: five percent analytics.
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: Analy It sounds accurate. I'm looking forward to that.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: Uh oh, that's the only one he he you know
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: has issue well because they analytics, so I don't know
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: what analytic they punted on fourth and one.
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: They screwed up the two point conversion analytics.
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: Another listener on Listener Crime christ New Hampshire with christ
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: New Hampshire says, thank the Lord that these callers are
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: not anywhere near the team. They should be making toast
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: or are digging ditches somewhere that's more their speed. Someone
- 1:24:52Speaker 2: called in Tuesday wanting to sign four starting caliber tackles
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: for camp battles. Yeah, me too, That's totally possible.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: None of these.
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: Let's be polite and call them people ever say or
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: who or how? They just want to use magic. Now
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: what did I hear that we shouldn't extend Gonzales? I
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: have my criticism of Wolf, but he's Socrates, Plato, Aristotle,
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: Einstein compared to the adult mouth breathers that chime in.
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: I hate fans more than Paul Wow. Wow Wow.
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: I'm not sure you do. I want to defend the
- 1:25:25Speaker 4: offensive line guy for Tuesday. I think his suggestion was
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: to provide some competition for Will Cambellish. I don't think
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: he said we need to sign four attack you know, Like,
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: I know the guy's exaggerating for an effect, but I
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: don't think it's a ridiculous mindset to say maybe he
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: needs to be pushed a little bit. You know, I'm
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: not telling you that you know right, wrong or indifferent. Now,
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: the point is the same. It's hard to do that. Yeah, Like,
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: way do you get a guy that's good enough to push?
- 1:25:55Speaker 7: You know?
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: I just think and look, they had it wasn't just
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: this game.
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: It was a rough playoff run for the offense, and
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: the offensive line shares the responsibility of that blame. But
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: I've seen a lot of you know, how do the
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: Patriots fix the offensive line this offseason? And that to
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: me kind of makes it sound like they need to
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: overhaul the offensive line when I really think it's probably
- 1:26:20Speaker 5: like a few tweaks you know here or there, maybe
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: sign one starter to be a left guard and then
- 1:26:26Speaker 5: you move Wilson to center and you know that sort
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: of thing. The other thing I would just say, and
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: this is probably just a me thing. You know, a
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: week ago before the Super Bowl, we're talking, oh where
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: did they go to dinner? You know this week, and
- 1:26:37Speaker 5: we're all, you know, a pants up for how much
- 1:26:40Speaker 5: better the offensive line has played all year? And then
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: they get their butts kicked in the Super Bowl by
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: a really good Seattle defensive front and now all five
- 1:26:48Speaker 5: of them need to go.
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: And it's just like you can do that stuff on
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: your time. But I don't get into the Shirley Temple
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: like it.
- 1:26:54Speaker 5: Just that part of it to me is like, okay,
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: well a week ago before they played in the Super Bowl,
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: the line was fine.
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: Kicked and now it's not.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: Fine on the Patriots this week.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: That's how it goes, all right, Eldred in North Carolina
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: is on the line. Eldrid, you've been catching some shrapnel today.
- 1:27:14Speaker 9: Well, hey, I love to throw back too because I
- 1:27:16Speaker 9: am a fighter.
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: Either way, it goes okay, all right.
- 1:27:19Speaker 14: So how you do it?
- 1:27:21Speaker 9: Fred? I mean, Evan, I want to give you an
- 1:27:23Speaker 9: apology and Tuesday, You're right, this is some more people. Look,
- 1:27:30Speaker 9: maybe Joshua did a little bit more, but maybe not,
- 1:27:33Speaker 9: and I will give you that. But going with Drake,
- 1:27:37Speaker 9: he's our quarterback. He's young, and that was a knock
- 1:27:40Speaker 9: in North Carolina against better defense and a team like
- 1:27:44Speaker 9: when they played Florida State, North New Mexico, Oregon, like
- 1:27:48Speaker 9: you said, and also Clemson, So that was to knock.
- 1:27:52Speaker 9: But he was young. Young. Now he'll get it, and
- 1:27:55Speaker 9: like I said, we just gotta go with it, you know.
- 1:27:58Speaker 9: But far as anybody else wide receiver, and I keep
- 1:28:03Speaker 9: throwing up, Well, first, we're not gonna move up and
- 1:28:06Speaker 9: get Carnio.
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: Take.
- 1:28:07Speaker 9: You're not gonna get the guy from Arizona State. But
- 1:28:10Speaker 9: the guy kept saying he's in the top five in
- 1:28:12Speaker 9: all the lists, and he runs route six five and
- 1:28:16Speaker 9: he takes the top off. It's the true Eggs even
- 1:28:19Speaker 9: though he played for Tennessee. He's not throwing. Okay, so
- 1:28:23Speaker 9: you take that off. That's Chris Boselli.
- 1:28:27Speaker 2: Let the suck it, okay, and we.
- 1:28:28Speaker 9: Can get him because he goes in the top suck it. Oh,
- 1:28:31Speaker 9: we can get mem at thirty first, but no Drable.
- 1:28:34Speaker 9: Hes gonna get an edge rusher, which would be even better.
- 1:28:36Speaker 6: And I let it go.
- 1:28:37Speaker 2: It all right, So thanks Eldred.
- 1:28:40Speaker 5: Yeah, we were picking on Aldrid yesterday because he the tall,
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: fast wide receiver is his favorite.
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: But I think it's great that the guy called him
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: and we don't need Elegerent. Not every sixty five wide
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: receiver who runs fast in the straight line is gonna
- 1:28:52Speaker 4: be good.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Five four to four.
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: Yes, he called it the catch one to at the
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: same take, and Alex yesterday was like, Evan, this is
- 1:29:03Speaker 5: you know this year is Dante Thornton.
- 1:29:05Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, okay, so Eldred's guy I got,
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: I got it.
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: You know, he mentioned Drake and being young and not
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: winning big games against better teams. One thing that Drake
- 1:29:18Speaker 2: said on Tuesday that I don't know, maybe people are
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: talking about it. I haven't heard, but something that kind
- 1:29:24Speaker 2: of struck me is he was saying how he's looking
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: forward to next year being in the same offense. Yeah.
- 1:29:31Speaker 5: I was like, I was just about to bring that
- 1:29:33Speaker 5: up because I think, to me, the part the next
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: step for him is like the line of scrimmage stuff.
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: And I think in this game, like I can't tell
- 1:29:41Speaker 5: you because I'm not I'm not on the staff, I'm
- 1:29:44Speaker 5: not in the room, but like how much were Seattle's
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: blitz is creeping up on them because he's not seeing
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: it pre snap and he's not making the right adjustments
- 1:29:53Speaker 5: and he's not checking them in and out of bad
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: plays and like all that different kind of stuff. And
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: that's really really hard to do as twenty three year
- 1:30:00Speaker 5: old in the first year in the system. So as
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: he grows in the system, hopefully, you know, he gets
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: better at those different types of things where he can signal, hey, Pop,
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: you know we're going hot, you know we're hot here,
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: and then you know, all of a sudden pops running
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: a slant right behind the blitz and they're beating the blitz,
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: you know, with his arm. You know that that sort
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: of thing, I think is sort of the next maturation.
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: That's a lot to ask for a young quarterback, you know.
- 1:30:23Speaker 2: So it tells you a few things. One that he
- 1:30:26Speaker 2: fully expects Josh McDaniel's to be back, and I think
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: we do too. Two that he likes the offense, like
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: he feels like, you know, I like this offense and
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: I'm looking forward to being back so I can get
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: better in this offense. So that's a good sign thing.
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: Young quarterbacks get sacked a lot too.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: And so you know, it's just thinking like even though
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: they went to the super like like throw the the
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: playoff games, all of it out, you know, just he
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: got to play four games against great defenses, and at
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: this stage you just want to keep stacking experience and
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: seeing as much as you can can get. So now
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: to your point, Paul, that Josh can go back and say,
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: remember when San Diego or I still call them San Diego,
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: the Chargers did this, you know, all that stuff. So
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: it's just I think it's all the arrows all pointing
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: up and I'm I'm excited to get back see what
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: he looks like year two.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: I just wonder, like, what.
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: Is it Drake May meeting Josh mcdaniels's like idea of
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: how to how to handle things, or you know, can
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: they can Josh McDaniels kind of make it easier to
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: have gotten Drake May? You know, like I said, I
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: think on Tuesday, like a lot of like my guys,
- 1:31:32Speaker 5: a lot of the West Coast guys, like they don't
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: expect the quarterback to get to the line of scrimmage
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: and be able to make all these adjustments pre snap.
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: They just kind of snap the ball and they have
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: pre programmed answers into their play calls for things like
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: blitzes and stuff like that. So there's different ways to
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: do it, and I just want to, like, I look
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: at Drake May as a guy that plays best when
- 1:31:51Speaker 5: he's free, when like he's not thinking it, he's not
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: overthinking it, and he's just kind of playing. So is
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: there a way to sort of meet in the middle
- 1:31:59Speaker 5: day where you know, maybe he doesn't have to see
- 1:32:02Speaker 5: every single slot blitz coming, but post snap, when he
- 1:32:05Speaker 5: feels it, you know, he has an answer to it
- 1:32:07Speaker 5: to get them into a better situation.
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: Tyler and Ludlow wants to do a wellness check. He said,
- 1:32:12Speaker 2: I just wanted to give a shout out to the
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: PU team for doing such a great job with keeping
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: the fans entertained for four days last week. We all
- 1:32:19Speaker 2: appreciate the work you put in. I also wanted to
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: do a wellness check on some of the former callers
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: I used to hear when I first started listening to
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: the show in twenty fifteen. If any of these people
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: still listen, please call in again. Melvin and Tennessee. He's
- 1:32:32Speaker 2: called street kid Cat in Chicago. We don't hear from
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: her as much now. Mark and the Bay could do
- 1:32:38Speaker 2: without him. Nick Baby Love, not sure what he's up to.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: Lars and camp Pendleton, thank you for your service. And
- 1:32:44Speaker 2: Ken's in the Navy and probably be for a life.
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: Remember that.
- 1:32:48Speaker 4: Yeah, Eric used to love singing. I think that was
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: the one that Hardy said, not butchered at all when
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: you mess.
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: It up the words.
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, let's see. Tony writes in and he says, no,
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: probably capital letter, not butchered at all.
- 1:33:07Speaker 4: There you go. No, he says.
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: A week ago, we were saying five five and five
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: sacks in the playoffs may can't be expected to play
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: well if this continues, and what happens six sacks in
- 1:33:20Speaker 2: the super Bowl and numerous pressures, some twelve allowed by Campbell.
- 1:33:25Speaker 2: I heard that number, is I.
- 1:33:27Speaker 23: Bet I heard six? I heard eight, I heard fourteen? Yeah,
- 1:33:31Speaker 23: I heard so fourteen was next gen? And next Gen
- 1:33:34Speaker 23: does it by the chip in the pad, so like
- 1:33:36Speaker 23: how close is his guy and him to this?
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: That's not fair, So that that's you could be fully
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: engaged to be close, right.
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: So that's how they do it, which is you know
- 1:33:47Speaker 5: why you know a lot of people have pushed back
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: on that number, but I think it was probably around eight.
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: I think is probably the right number, which is still alone,
- 1:33:55Speaker 3: which is still too many.
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: It's not fourteen, which that sparked a wildfire.
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: I mean, we could go on a whole you know,
- 1:34:01Speaker 5: I have a I could go for twenty minutes about
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: Will Campbell in his past sets so that we could
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: fix it.
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: But well Armstead too.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: The whole thing, though, is all apples to apples, Like
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: I don't care what the number is, like if next
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: Gen does it different than everybody else, fourteen is still
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: ridiculously high. Compared to everybody else with next gen? Yeah, sure,
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: do you know what I mean? So I don't know
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: what the number is, but he allowed a lot of
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: pressure myself. I heard a lot of people with eight.
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: So you had a number that people like.
- 1:34:33Speaker 5: Five clear ones where it was like this is non negotiables.
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: Is definitely pressure. Then there's like, you know, the bul rushes,
- 1:34:40Speaker 5: it's hard, like he's getting walked back into the quarterback.
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: But like, how much is that really affecting Drake may
- 1:34:46Speaker 5: On some plays it doesn't, in some plays it does,
- 1:34:48Speaker 5: And so that's all subjective in my opinion.
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: That's kind of beauty is.
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: In the You don't want to see that, even if
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: it doesn't. You don't want to see a guy being
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: walked back.
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: I thought that, you know that a lot of the
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: O line community I think is really well, what like
- 1:35:01Speaker 5: had his back, but also has explained it a lot
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: better than what's being explained you know by people that Okay,
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: it's a tough position to understand the nuances of and
- 1:35:11Speaker 5: I think there are fixes to it. And you know,
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: you mentioned Tarron Armstead, and Tron Armstead was very aggressive
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: with his pass sets. He used a lot of jump sets,
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: and angle sets so that he would get on guys
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: quickly and try to limit or close down the space.
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: When you vertical set, which is the most traditional pass
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: set for tackles, you're actually creating space between you and
- 1:35:31Speaker 5: the rusher, and it's supposed to be so that you
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: can kind of square them up and size them up.
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: But the problem is is that he has the length disadvantage,
- 1:35:39Speaker 5: so he's giving guys a runway to gain momentum and
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: then they're just extending their arms and then they're pushing
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: him backwards. So you know, I think that he's going
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: to have to get better at, you know, trying to
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: change up his sets a little bit and kind of
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: keeping guys off balanced, because you know, all these Seattle
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: guys were just bull rushing the crap out of him
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: because they have that extra space to kind of that
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: runway to kind of go at.
- 1:36:01Speaker 2: Him full team. Maheen writes in I was wondering how
- 1:36:05Speaker 2: you guys viewed the miked up video of Mike Rabel
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: after the game, meeting the players and saying let's be
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: pissed together. You can also see the emotions he was
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: going through when he was seen alone. I love Mike
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: Rabel and will forever love him. I love being a
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: Patriots fan because of him. I think this year, because
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: of what we saw, other high end free agent players
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: would want to play in New England because of him. Okay, yeah, yep,
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: I caught that. Was that ours or did someone else
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: we weren't. I think Films was there at the same
- 1:36:39Speaker 2: time as us.
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought it was phenomenal. Like I really just
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: thought that. I was glad that he was able to,
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: you know, do it.
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: You don't want to do it, like just when they win, right,
- 1:36:49Speaker 5: Like if you're gonna do the handshake line and like,
- 1:36:51Speaker 5: you know, greet them coming into the locker room, you
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: gotta do it, and you gotta do it good and
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: bad weather, And I thought that was really cool. The
- 1:36:59Speaker 5: shots of him, his reaction shots, I mean that was
- 1:37:03Speaker 5: unbelievable content, Like that's really hard to watch.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: Speaking of it, we're working on the last episode of Forge.
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: It's going to be really good. So even with the loss,
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: I think people are going to really enjoy it's coming out.
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: It'll be coming out, let's just put it that way.
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: It was really good Mitch and Saratoga. First off, Paul,
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: the Patriots kicked the extra point instead of going for two,
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: because if they converted the extra point then they would
- 1:37:28Speaker 2: have known what they needed. Secondly, Evan, I hope you
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: will be consistent with your take on this season being
- 1:37:37Speaker 2: a failure because they didn't win the Super Bowl, just
- 1:37:39Speaker 2: like how the Commander season was a failure last year.
- 1:37:42Speaker 2: Just wondering if the Patriots have put the twenty twenty
- 1:37:45Speaker 2: five Super Bowl appearance banner up in the stadium.
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: Good question, that's a great question.
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: The AFC Championship banners are there.
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: They did make it one step further than the Commanders.
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: Now they played the worst team and then championship game.
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: And they also didn't really forfeit any draft picks to
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: get there, which I think was Evans.
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: In the first place.
- 1:38:10Speaker 2: Okay, let's see, we'll go to Boston Cream. What's up,
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: Boston Cream?
- 1:38:17Speaker 22: Hey, guys, just calling in to share my appreciations for
- 1:38:21Speaker 22: another wonderful Patriots Unfiltered season. This one was my fourteenth
- 1:38:26Speaker 22: complete and as an international listener, I kind of wanted
- 1:38:30Speaker 22: to share my perspective of people who kind of started
- 1:38:33Speaker 22: listening around the time I did Patriots Unfiltered orfw at
- 1:38:38Speaker 22: the time, it was such a great resource because we
- 1:38:41Speaker 22: didn't have the local media like a lot of people
- 1:38:43Speaker 22: in New England did to have to listen to. We
- 1:38:46Speaker 22: kind of had to search for things, and being on
- 1:38:49Speaker 22: Patriots dot Com was easily accessible and very good to
- 1:38:54Speaker 22: fans like us. So I don't have anything more to say.
- 1:38:56Speaker 22: I'm just appreciateive for you guys's content and services.
- 1:38:59Speaker 2: Before you go, Blast and Cream, I am going to
- 1:39:01Speaker 2: get something for the winner of the you know you're
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: weekly contest. So make sure that Matt Morrell has the
- 1:39:08Speaker 2: name and address of the winner.
- 1:39:11Speaker 22: Okay, right on, there's four I think there's four winners.
- 1:39:13Speaker 2: Four winners. Oh, everybody's a winner and yours?
- 1:39:17Speaker 4: Yeah, wow, don't everyone gets a trophy?
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: Okay, we'll make sure we have those names and addresses.
- 1:39:24Speaker 2: Sounds good, guys, Love you all right, Thanks Boston Cream.
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: Thanks for by the way.
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: I'm just curious maybe if there's any new listeners who
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: are at the Super Bowl tailgate and we're yelled at
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: by Matt Morrell to listen to Patriots and filter, which
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: there were many he was going through that tailgate. He
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: wasn't abate of the village, you know, just you shooting
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: and everybody you don't you love to hear? We also
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: met a fan. We hade a fan of the show
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: working hard.
- 1:39:47Speaker 4: Someone had to do it.
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: We weren't working at all.
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: Actually that's the we get paid to do.
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: Were spreading awareness.
- 1:39:56Speaker 4: We were still working, you know.
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know. Maybe Fred didn't hear
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: this one, but we were on Alcatraz Island and this
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: gay felt. Paul and I talked about this. You get
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: somebody kind of like, you know, eyeing you a little bit,
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: and you're like, I think this guy might might be
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: a fan. You're so we got recognized and talking to
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: a really nice guy. I think his name is Liam
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: from the UK. He was very nice.
- 1:40:18Speaker 17: I was.
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: He met me first and I was like, hey, you
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: want something really exciting, here comes Evans break it down
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: for you. But we talked to them for a while,
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: and it's just it's always so cool to run into
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: random people who listen to the show. So if you
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: were harassed by Matt Morello at the Super Bowl tailgate,
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: please call in.
- 1:40:32Speaker 4: And now, so how old would you say that woman
- 1:40:34Speaker 4: was that that said she was a.
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: Woman, she barely a woman? Seemed like twenty two, twenty one?
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I just let's say we don't. We don't get
- 1:40:43Speaker 4: a lot of young women that are listening to Patriots unfiltered.
- 1:40:47Speaker 4: So my antenna was immediately up, Like I felt like
- 1:40:50Speaker 4: I was being set up somehow. But then she's like, Paul,
- 1:40:53Speaker 4: tell me why we're going to win this.
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: Come over here, you're my.
- 1:40:58Speaker 4: Like, I still still would find it hard to believe
- 1:41:01Speaker 4: that she's a pew listener. I told her, I need
- 1:41:04Speaker 4: you to write in and call in. I need proof.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: But hopefully I'll talk to her for a whilefully we'll.
- 1:41:08Speaker 2: Hear from her, Darius writes. Sandy says, I don't think
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: it's about Drake's confidence as much as it is about
- 1:41:14Speaker 2: getting better receiving options. He needs people to get at
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: least a little open so he can make tight window
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: throws and show his skill and confidence. Also more experience
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: so he has more options. I look at Stafford and
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: how his mind works against good defenses, and I think
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: May just needs more time. Furthermore, I'm really excited about
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: the future and so ready to see the moves we
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: make this offseason.
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: I mean, I guess, I mean, I don't know.
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: He was the number one passer in the league and
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: in pretty much every metric during the regular season, and
- 1:41:46Speaker 5: he wasn't in.
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: The playoffs, so carried over against the best teams the
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: same reiver defense.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: You know, there were some open guys that he missed,
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: and I would just say, you know, in terms of
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: tight windows, that's what it is, right, that's what it
- 1:41:58Speaker 4: is in the postseason, that's you know, Evan talked about
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: this at length after the NFC Championship game. He wanted
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: to be really excited about how Seattle's defense had some
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: holes in it. Then you watch it and you're like, oh,
- 1:42:10Speaker 4: that's how they made the place Like those are hard
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: to replicate. It was all.
- 1:42:16Speaker 5: The dig route to mccollins and Matthew Stafford just did
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: it like four or five times, and you know, Puka
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: Nikua made the catches and he's a better player than maccollins.
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: And that's a fair point by the emailer, but you know,
- 1:42:28Speaker 5: I just think that it can be both. You know,
- 1:42:31Speaker 5: they need to get better for help around him, and
- 1:42:33Speaker 5: we can say that, but we can also admit that
- 1:42:35Speaker 5: in the playoffs, you know, he didn't look as shure
- 1:42:38Speaker 5: of himself as he did in the regular season.
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: For whatever reason.
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: Randy's in Providence. What's up, Randy.
- 1:42:45Speaker 13: Hey going guys?
- 1:42:46Speaker 7: Hey?
- 1:42:49Speaker 14: So yeah, I was calling it like last off season.
- 1:42:52Speaker 13: There was a lot of roster movement right, and a
- 1:42:56Speaker 13: lot of tear down, a lot of replacements, et cetera.
- 1:42:59Speaker 13: I just kind of I think some of that's probably
- 1:43:01Speaker 13: not done, particularly in the front seven of that defense.
- 1:43:05Speaker 13: I wonder what you guys are gonna think he is
- 1:43:07Speaker 13: going to happen this off season with guys that everybody
- 1:43:10Speaker 13: kind of thought doesn't really fit this scheme. Jennings to
- 1:43:14Speaker 13: buy and I wonder I've been looking at bar More
- 1:43:18Speaker 13: as a potential trade candidate. I don't think he fits
- 1:43:21Speaker 13: in culturally for various reasons, and I think that he's
- 1:43:26Speaker 13: built up some value this past year. I wonder what
- 1:43:29Speaker 13: you guys think of a if he could be a
- 1:43:32Speaker 13: trade candidate and be what sort of value they might
- 1:43:38Speaker 13: get from him and then from the rookies in their
- 1:43:40Speaker 13: first complete off season Beyond Will Campbell, I think there's
- 1:43:44Speaker 13: two guys that I'd really like to see make leaps,
- 1:43:46Speaker 13: And I'm wondering what you guys think Jared Wilson and
- 1:43:49Speaker 13: his ability to snap the ball. Like I know he's
- 1:43:52Speaker 13: moved off the center last summer because he struggled with
- 1:43:54Speaker 13: that and then traveon Henderson with his pass protection coming
- 1:43:58Speaker 13: into the league. That was one of the highlights in
- 1:44:02Speaker 13: the draft community, thought to be like a real benefit
- 1:44:05Speaker 13: for him, and it didn't prove to be that way.
- 1:44:07Speaker 13: I'm thinking in the off season, hopefully he can pick
- 1:44:10Speaker 13: some things up.
- 1:44:11Speaker 14: What do you guys think.
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: I like the Henderson's a lot there. I like the
- 1:44:15Speaker 4: Henderson one a lot, but yeah, let's take them all down. Yeah.
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: I think the the Jared Wilson snapping thing, I think
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: it was more they had a solid center in Brad
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: Berry on the roster and his clearness pat the playing
- 1:44:27Speaker 5: was to play at left guard, and when they drafted him,
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: I think they you know, I think Elliot Wolf said
- 1:44:33Speaker 5: that we view him as a center, so I think
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: that center is his long term position. I think it'd
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: be hard to trade bar more expensive player as a
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: big contract if you're trading him for the reasons the
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: caller laid out, like, yeah, you know what, why is
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: the team taking on that contract.
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: It's funny that you I don't know if maybe I
- 1:44:53Speaker 4: hope our mikes weren't hot during the break because we
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: were talking about that during the break, Like, I wonder
- 1:44:57Speaker 4: if you know, let's go back to Max c could
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: you include a guy like that, because I think I
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: saw one report that they were looking for draft picks
- 1:45:06Speaker 4: and an established younger player. I think Barbo would fit
- 1:45:10Speaker 4: into that category. But Evan's right, he's an expensive younger player,
- 1:45:14Speaker 4: but a very talented one. It might that lesson the
- 1:45:18Speaker 4: draft compensation you'd have to give.
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: Yeah right, yeah, I just look at his If there
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: are concerns about Barmore, like let's just call him non
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: football concerns about Barmore, then why is somebody taking on
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: one hundred million dollar contract? Yeah, right, like it just
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: does that just doesn't really perfect Raider add up. Yeah, Jennings,
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: I think it was another one of those guys that
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: kind of played his way into Mike Rabel's good grace.
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: I would say Jennings Stevenson would be the top of
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: that list for me. And maybe a win oo too. Yeah,
- 1:45:52Speaker 4: you know to, I you know to I had a
- 1:45:55Speaker 4: role coming down off of ir but yeah, not much.
- 1:46:01Speaker 5: Jennings in the playoffs, I think was a really impactful
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: player for them and played really well and found a
- 1:46:07Speaker 5: way to operate within this system. You know that might
- 1:46:10Speaker 5: not be a great fit for him. So I don't
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: know if they still feel the same way about some
- 1:46:14Speaker 5: of those guys that Randy brought.
- 1:46:16Speaker 2: Up, Rhinos in North Carolina.
- 1:46:19Speaker 12: Hey Rhino, Hey guys, thanks for taking my call.
- 1:46:22Speaker 7: Sure.
- 1:46:24Speaker 6: So there's been a lot of discussion obviously on Will
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: Campbell online on this show with different callers. I'm going
- 1:46:32Speaker 6: to pick up on something that you guys were talking
- 1:46:35Speaker 6: about as well, is that I was more concerned with
- 1:46:37Speaker 6: Jared Wilson down the stretch with his play at left guard.
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: Thought he really struggled in the run game. Thought he
- 1:46:43Speaker 6: struggled in pass protection on different downs, especially in helping Campbell,
- 1:46:48Speaker 6: And I just think it makes more sense to try
- 1:46:50Speaker 6: to kick him down to center and continue to develop
- 1:46:53Speaker 6: Campbell as a tackle and try to find veteran help
- 1:46:57Speaker 6: at guard, rather than some of these calls trying to
- 1:47:00Speaker 6: bring in a number of tackles to compete with Campbell.
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: Yeah, why not both? Yeah? No, I agree. I talked
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: about Jared Wilson a little on Tuesday, and I think,
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: you know, he's kind of he struggled, There's no doubt
- 1:47:17Speaker 4: about it. I think he struggled since he got back
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: from that second concussion, and no one's really talking about
- 1:47:25Speaker 4: him like they are talking about Campbell. But I don't
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: think that that means Campbell was better than what we're saying.
- 1:47:31Speaker 4: I think Campbell struggled too.
- 1:47:32Speaker 5: No, I just wonder Wilson, like I keep coming back
- 1:47:36Speaker 5: to the center thing, and on top of that, like
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: separating the two of them so that they're not.
- 1:47:39Speaker 3: Playing next to each other.
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: Yeah, and he agrees with you, because I just feel
- 1:47:42Speaker 4: like guys, on.
- 1:47:44Speaker 5: Top of the fact that they're they're younger, they're also smaller.
- 1:47:48Speaker 5: So like your whole left side is just kind of
- 1:47:51Speaker 5: undersized because Jared Wilson's built more like a center. Campbell's
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: built more like a guard, So like you just have
- 1:47:57Speaker 5: kind of a small surface that you're building on that
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: side of the line.
- 1:48:01Speaker 3: So even if it's just so that you know, you
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: get a bigger guard that's.
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: A little bit more of a people mover to put
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: next to Campbell, so on double teams and things like that,
- 1:48:10Speaker 5: that they can move the line a little bit better.
- 1:48:12Speaker 5: I think that that would help out a lot too,
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: because I think Jared Wilson is, you know, built like
- 1:48:17Speaker 5: a center, He's not necessarily built like a guard.
- 1:48:19Speaker 2: I like it.
- 1:48:19Speaker 1: I mean, I think your point of bringing in the
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: left guard that's established and let you know, still let
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: Wilson compete for that, but let Wilson complete a both spots,
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, one used the questions.
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: I said that yesterday. No One's Tuesday, no one's.
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: Evan said he wanted like like Joe Toney would be
- 1:48:34Speaker 4: the answer. Yeah, last year, David Edwards the year free agent.
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: The whole offensive line downfall of the Patriots started when
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: they franchised Joe Tuning instead of extending him. Yeah, that's
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: how the Salt hasn't been right since then.
- 1:48:49Speaker 5: Well, Deuce was doing you know not this is going backways,
- 1:48:51Speaker 5: but he did the nineteen eighty five thing. And who
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: is the left tackle on that team again? Bryan Holloway
- 1:48:57Speaker 5: who he met at the radio row and John Hanner
- 1:49:00Speaker 5: I would play next to him on the line. John
- 1:49:02Speaker 5: Hannah retired and Brian Holloway no offense from a pro. Yeah,
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: career kind of fizzled. And I think that that just
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: kind of speaks to you. Now, no one's John Hannah,
- 1:49:11Speaker 5: but it speaks to if you have a really good
- 1:49:13Speaker 5: player playing next to you, how much easier it can
- 1:49:16Speaker 5: make your job, you know, and it's a really Difficultnversely.
- 1:49:20Speaker 2: If you have a guy making mistakes, it can make
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: you look really bad.
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49:23Speaker 5: But when you have, you know, a young player protecting
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: Drake May's blindside in the Super Bowl against one of
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: the best pass rushers in football, Like, any little advantage
- 1:49:32Speaker 5: or any little help that you can give him is
- 1:49:33Speaker 5: going to go a long way.
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: All right, I got a feeling this is going to
- 1:49:37Speaker 2: be explosive. Oh nice, Saba is in North Carolina.
- 1:49:40Speaker 4: What's up?
- 1:49:42Speaker 24: Hey there, gentlemen. I hate that I missed you guys Tuesday,
- 1:49:45Speaker 24: but I was. You know, I'm not a long time listener,
- 1:49:47Speaker 24: but I am now.
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: Okay, well, welcome, glad to have you, Thank you.
- 1:49:55Speaker 24: Okay, I've got some things I'm upset. Okay, First of all,
- 1:49:58Speaker 24: why did the coaches in every boy to keep telling
- 1:50:00Speaker 24: Drake doing.
- 1:50:01Speaker 21: Through the ball?
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: Over doing to them?
- 1:50:02Speaker 24: All of you decrease his aggressiveness. He's a mover and
- 1:50:05Speaker 24: a shaker. He likes to play free.
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: Like Steph Curry.
- 1:50:08Speaker 24: You can't tell him don't turn the ball over. He
- 1:50:10Speaker 24: does crazy things and then he does amazing things. This
- 1:50:12Speaker 24: is what you have to do with players like this.
- 1:50:14Speaker 11: He is not Dan Fouts.
- 1:50:15Speaker 24: Guys and Josh Daniel treated him as such. He kept
- 1:50:19Speaker 24: them in the pocket. I said, go right, do lead option,
- 1:50:23Speaker 24: move the pocket, organize scrambles, anything you can do to
- 1:50:26Speaker 24: decrease pastors. How about those little quick libricy of screens.
- 1:50:29Speaker 24: You get it, you throw it to the right boot
- 1:50:31Speaker 24: and bad way. The left side of the line can
- 1:50:33Speaker 24: beat sort of camouflaged somewhat, but this was literally a beatdown.
- 1:50:37Speaker 24: And I blamed Josh McDaniel. And why did Drake throw
- 1:50:40Speaker 24: the eighteen? I'm telling you, I bet that was his choice, right,
- 1:50:43Speaker 24: and he made the wrong choice again because looks like
- 1:50:45Speaker 24: he wanted him to sit, But yet the guy kept going.
- 1:50:48Speaker 24: I'm thought that what y'all did the team did to
- 1:50:51Speaker 24: Drake may and my Redskins author Thomas's how horrible Drake
- 1:50:55Speaker 24: may is and how we're so lucky to have getting Daniels.
- 1:50:59Speaker 24: I can't take it. It's really upsetting me. And I
- 1:51:02Speaker 24: don't understand why the Patriots did not protect Drek Maymore
- 1:51:07Speaker 24: and let him be himself. I'm worried that he may
- 1:51:10Speaker 24: be ir reversely damaged.
- 1:51:13Speaker 3: All right, I wasn't gonna go there.
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: Well, let's agree with a lot of what I want
- 1:51:16Speaker 2: you to become a full fledged Patriots fan, not a
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: part time Patriots fan.
- 1:51:20Speaker 24: How do we do that, I will, I just got
- 1:51:22Speaker 24: to get on your schedule.
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: I got to make sure, okay, all right, thank you again,
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: all right, thank you.
- 1:51:28Speaker 5: I do agree with their first point, not the last
- 1:51:30Speaker 5: point about him being broken for good. But I do
- 1:51:32Speaker 5: agree that maybe they got into his head a little
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: bit too much about the turnovers and it it the
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: freeness are like, kind of the looseness that he was
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: playing with sort of went by the wayside.
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: The Kyle Williams the pick. I actually think Kyle Williams
- 1:51:45Speaker 3: was the one that read it correctly on that one.
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: So just to you know, you made a pointed for
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: that on Tuesday that had he kept going, he probably
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: would have gotten picked anyway. Yeah, I mean had he
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: sat down.
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: So he uh they rotated late into like single high
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: safe seeing Kyle Williams was trying to cut.
- 1:52:01Speaker 3: Across the.
- 1:52:03Speaker 4: Lot of blue shirts there.
- 1:52:04Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think that Drake may read it as
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: too high and thought that Kyle Williams was going to
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: split the safety, so he threw it right through the
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: middle of the field and that Kyle Williams read it
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: as post and was going to go across the field,
- 1:52:15Speaker 5: And I think Kyle Williams was actually right.
- 1:52:18Speaker 2: I know in Toronto, of the following three players, who
- 1:52:20Speaker 2: would you least be surprised about if they were not
- 1:52:24Speaker 2: on the team next year, Diggs, Hunter Henry or Christian
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: Barmore least digs For Diggs Diggs, I personally feel like
- 1:52:32Speaker 2: it might be time to move on for all three
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: of them. They'd save seventeen million by cutting Digs, and
- 1:52:37Speaker 2: he was not very productive down the stretch. Plus he's
- 1:52:39Speaker 2: not the easiest guy to root for. Hunter Henry is
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: super easy to root for, but they'd save nine million
- 1:52:44Speaker 2: by cutting him and could replace him with a younger
- 1:52:47Speaker 2: tight end like Isaiah Likely. And Barber's miked up comments
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: it wasn't us really bothered me. And he's not a
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: verable guy. I wonder if he could be traded for
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: a mid round pick and replaced with a veteran like
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: John Franklin Myers. What was the guy was in Carolina?
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: What was it wasn't us?
- 1:53:04Speaker 3: Stupid thing.
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: Like we didn't perform, Like it wasn't the defense.
- 1:53:10Speaker 5: I think it's saying that it wasn't the defense.
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: I don't like that either. Well I don't honestly, I don't.
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: Like any of what NFL films put out, So that's yeah.
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I just I'm not interested in saving money. I'm
- 1:53:24Speaker 4: interested in getting better players. If you can replace these
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: guys with better players, I'm all for it, all.
- 1:53:30Speaker 2: Right, Nick, and Connecticut's giving in another try. We'll wrap
- 1:53:33Speaker 2: up with him. Nick, we can hear you.
- 1:53:37Speaker 12: So you guys touched on this a little bit at
- 1:53:39Speaker 12: the end of the show, and I honestly it made
- 1:53:41Speaker 12: me change my take after listening to Hawk on it.
- 1:53:44Speaker 12: So you guys are talking about Drake may holding the ball,
- 1:53:47Speaker 12: which I thought was honestly a huge issue, But the
- 1:53:51Speaker 12: more I thought about it, I don't know if it's
- 1:53:53Speaker 12: him holding the ball as much of not having a
- 1:53:54Speaker 12: feel for the game or the moment. So Paul and
- 1:53:58Speaker 12: I had a similar take. I think in the Atlanta
- 1:54:01Speaker 12: game where the only way they could have lost that
- 1:54:03Speaker 12: game is the bubble, and he took a huge bubble
- 1:54:05Speaker 12: at halftime. I think it was at the end of
- 1:54:07Speaker 12: the game get another one that Campbell recovered, and I
- 1:54:11Speaker 12: just feel like throughout the playoffs and stuff, it was
- 1:54:14Speaker 12: just you're getting the passers. Sometimes you've got to just
- 1:54:16Speaker 12: get the ball and not be Superman and make like
- 1:54:18Speaker 12: the crazy amazing play made in Buffalo, which I know
- 1:54:20Speaker 12: that's part of what makes him great, and he's twenty
- 1:54:23Speaker 12: three and all that stuff, But for me, it's like
- 1:54:25Speaker 12: you watch a guy like Josh Allen who at moments
- 1:54:27Speaker 12: shows that like he has a feel for what's going on.
- 1:54:29Speaker 12: But they also look at Denver. You lost the Denver
- 1:54:31Speaker 12: game because right doing too much. And I just feel
- 1:54:34Speaker 12: like there's times where like there's a play in the
- 1:54:36Speaker 12: Super Bowl where he drops back. It's second and ten.
- 1:54:39Speaker 12: They're about the cross midfield and they had Hunter Henry
- 1:54:41Speaker 12: for five yard lay if everyone else is going deep
- 1:54:44Speaker 12: and he steps up, the pocket takes back, so you
- 1:54:47Speaker 12: go from what would be third and five like maybe
- 1:54:51Speaker 12: or less, and then now it's third and fourteen, which
- 1:54:53Speaker 12: is so different.
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a lot of that that happened Sunday and
- 1:54:57Speaker 4: in all season, and that's why I kind of put
- 1:55:00Speaker 4: back on the you know, the the constant harping on
- 1:55:04Speaker 4: the turnovers, because turnovers were an enormous problem in his
- 1:55:07Speaker 4: rookie year and they were mitigated this year. He didn't
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: have anywhere near the amount of turnover worthy plays. I mean,
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: for the amount of big plays that he made. That's
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: remarkable that he was able to cut back on the
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: mistakes while making more explosive plays that you know, is
- 1:55:24Speaker 4: something that clearly that they drilled into him. It worked,
- 1:55:28Speaker 4: but it's still a work in progress. Nick is right,
- 1:55:30Speaker 4: there's a lot of things that in that holding the
- 1:55:33Speaker 4: ball thing is kind of a constant that I can
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: trace as far back as the preseason in the game
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: against Washington, I think all the way through to the
- 1:55:44Speaker 4: super Bowl, like and it was it was a periodic
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: problem throughout the year. That's what comes with making all
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: those big plays.
- 1:55:51Speaker 5: I would just say that, like be careful about evaluating
- 1:55:55Speaker 5: like when to go to the checkdown. Like obviously he's
- 1:55:59Speaker 5: going through read and the checkdown is like you know,
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: we're gonna look down field first and then we're gonna
- 1:56:04Speaker 5: hit the checkdown. So like you I don't wouldn't expect
- 1:56:07Speaker 5: him to like get to the top of his drop
- 1:56:09Speaker 5: and immediately be looking down to the checkdown like that.
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: That isn't really you know, he's waiting to see if
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: anything develops down the field. Now, could he get from
- 1:56:18Speaker 5: you know, his rates down. Yeah, could he get there faster?
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:56:22Speaker 3: Probably, But you know, I see you in a lot
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: of like screenshots and things like that of like.
- 1:56:27Speaker 5: Screen, you know, he hits the top of his drop
- 1:56:29Speaker 5: and we're looking at it and like there's a checkdown.
- 1:56:31Speaker 5: While it was like, yeah, like obviously he could take
- 1:56:33Speaker 5: the checkdown at the top of his drop every single time,
- 1:56:36Speaker 5: but you know, he's looking to see if something develops
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: down the field first. So you know, I thought there
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: were opportunities to take checkdowns in this game, maybe, but
- 1:56:45Speaker 5: I didn't really think that that was the design of
- 1:56:48Speaker 5: the play. Like I think they were trying to hit
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: throws down the field, and that was the biggest gripe
- 1:56:53Speaker 5: I probably had with McDaniels in this game, as it
- 1:56:55Speaker 5: was too vertical, like they they couldn't hold up up front,
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: and they got guys that aren't even ready to catch
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: the ball, that aren't turning around looking for the ball yet,
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: and Drake may is hitting the top of his drop
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: and he's just holding it slants.
- 1:57:06Speaker 4: And in cuts.
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: Yeah, what you need Travis in West Virginia, Can each
- 1:57:11Speaker 2: of you say please up sorry? Can each of you
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: please say on a scale of one to ten, how
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: much locker room guys actually matter. My answer is zero.
- 1:57:22Speaker 3: Oh I think that.
- 1:57:23Speaker 2: I think Paul would agree.
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: No, you would not agree.
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: This team made it here because they had fantastic vibes
- 1:57:30Speaker 5: all year long. I mean that this wasn't because they
- 1:57:32Speaker 5: had the best talent in the AFC. This was this
- 1:57:35Speaker 5: was a special kind of thing, like I've never been
- 1:57:37Speaker 5: around anything like like what we saw this year in
- 1:57:40Speaker 5: terms of like that sort of thing actually elevating the
- 1:57:44Speaker 5: talent on the roster, Like if you understand what.
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: The I just think you need at least a core.
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: You need at least a core of guys that have
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: your culture in and then in the first year of
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: a program, it's hard to have that.
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: See now where I think you would probably be going
- 1:57:58Speaker 4: with this Fred with me, he is so take a
- 1:58:01Speaker 4: guy like Carold Landry. I think Carol Landry was brought
- 1:58:04Speaker 4: here for one reason, and it's exactly what Mike and
- 1:58:06Speaker 4: Evan just said. And he did that. He got hurt,
- 1:58:11Speaker 4: he wasn't as productive in the second half of the season.
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: I would hesitate to say I need to keep him
- 1:58:16Speaker 4: because he's so good in my locker room. He did
- 1:58:18Speaker 4: his job that's exactly what they signed him for if
- 1:58:22Speaker 4: you have established the culture right now. But so he
- 1:58:25Speaker 4: would need to be a better player than he was,
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: do you know what I mean. I wouldn't just keep
- 1:58:29Speaker 4: him solely for that. If he can't play anymore, then
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: it's time to move on. If now, if they think
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: this was about the injury and he's going to be
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: more productive, by all means, you'll hold on to him.
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: But I think those guys are important. I agree with
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: the way Evans said.
- 1:58:42Speaker 2: I go back to Parcels, you know, Hall of Fame coach,
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: you got to have your circle the wagon guys, And
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: he and Belichick did the same thing when he was here.
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: He brought in Anthony Pleasant.
- 1:58:53Speaker 4: And Hamilton, Bobby Hamilton.
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: Yeah, all these guys that he was familiar with, that
- 1:58:59Speaker 2: he knows will take his message to the rest of
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: the team and help to make the locker room self policing.
- 1:59:07Speaker 4: And that's what they had a bunch of guys that
- 1:59:09Speaker 4: had some ties to rabel In, some you know, Landry Splane,
- 1:59:12Speaker 4: these guys that had had been around some of these
- 1:59:15Speaker 4: coaches in the past.
- 1:59:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and like obviously winning, you know, when you're winning,
- 1:59:20Speaker 5: it's going to be a fun environment. But hearing guys,
- 1:59:23Speaker 5: you know, talk about how much they look forward to
- 1:59:25Speaker 5: going into the facility, and you know it just when
- 1:59:30Speaker 5: we were got to be in there, Duce in the
- 1:59:31Speaker 5: locker room, like that locker room was like it was fun,
- 1:59:35Speaker 5: like it was a fun environment to be around.
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: There was no dividers. It was every position group was
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: talking or joking with the other way, you know.
- 1:59:42Speaker 2: And you know, Belichick had the good fortune of having
- 1:59:44Speaker 2: his best player be the guy who set the tone
- 1:59:47Speaker 2: by example in Brady ken Vrabel turned a Gonzales into
- 1:59:53Speaker 2: his guy, because that would be all the more reason
- 1:59:57Speaker 2: to sign him that you know that he's carrying my wall.
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: He's going to carry my message to the rest of
- 2:00:02Speaker 2: the team. When your best players can do it, not
- 2:00:05Speaker 2: just the Matthew Slaters, no disrespect intended, but when your
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: best elite players are your locker room guys, that's when
- 2:00:12Speaker 2: it clicks. That's when it clicks.
- 2:00:14Speaker 3: That'd be the interesting question because Ganza doesn't say much, so.
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 2:00:19Speaker 2: Brady didn't either in the locker room, but he led
- 2:00:22Speaker 2: by example once he was on the practice field. My god,
- 2:00:26Speaker 2: if you weren't doing what you're supposed to. He was
- 2:00:28Speaker 2: all over you. Yeah, Gonzo can do it in a
- 2:00:31Speaker 2: different way. But as long as he's buying in, Yeah,
- 2:00:35Speaker 2: as long as he's buying in.
- 2:00:37Speaker 5: I think Drake May, Will Campbell, Christian Gonzalez like they
- 2:00:40Speaker 5: kind Williams they're taking. I think Millen Williams right now
- 2:00:43Speaker 5: is probably one of the vocal leaders in there.
- 2:00:45Speaker 3: It's right.
- 2:00:46Speaker 5: Those three guys, to me are kind of realized that
- 2:00:48Speaker 5: they're the future and they're going to be the core
- 2:00:51Speaker 5: of this team. And I think they take a lot
- 2:00:53Speaker 5: of pride in that.
- 2:00:54Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think Remandre I think, because of his
- 2:00:56Speaker 2: slow start, wasn't really a out front leader. But I
- 2:01:01Speaker 2: think starting next year he might be. Yeah, we'll see.
- 2:01:04Speaker 2: All Right, that's gonna be it for this week's Patriots Unfiltered.
