- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: next to
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 2: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Here we go, brand
- 0:12Speaker 2: new week. Hopefully you're well rested from the long weekend.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And
- 0:16Speaker 1: can I say happy Star Wars Day. Oh.
- 0:20Speaker 2: May the 4th be with you.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Yeah,
- 0:23Speaker 2: so bad. I want to be the Ewok actually. Singapore's
- 0:28Speaker 2: number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 2: When we come back, a little update about what we're
- 0:35Speaker 2: up to over the long weekend and um I guess
- 0:38Speaker 2: in a way, like the countdown truly begins. Another episode
- 0:42Speaker 2: of my wedding series has just popped up. Join us
- 0:45Speaker 2: in the chaos. Join us in all the laughs. I,
- 0:49Speaker 2: I really hope that you've been laughing along because I
- 0:50Speaker 2: have at myself, really.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Um, so if you're, you're on your way to work
- 0:54Speaker 2: or school or gym or whatever it is early in
- 0:56Speaker 2: the morning, and you have like 6 to 8 minutes
- 0:58Speaker 2: to spare, log on to Media Corp's Entertainment YouTube channel
- 1:02Speaker 2: and check it out. Um, got a couple of friends
- 1:04Speaker 2: just laughing and saying they put it on, on YouTube,
- 1:07Speaker 2: on their televisions because it's their new series that they're
- 1:10Speaker 2: going to follow and it's a short episode. Each app is,
- 1:13Speaker 2: you know, not, not anything more than 8 minutes, so very,
- 1:17Speaker 2: very easy to watch. Check it out. Let me know.
- 1:20Speaker 2: I believe it's called Countdown to I do, and if
- 1:23Speaker 2: you want, you just, I mean, I guess search my
- 1:25Speaker 2: name up if you can't, yeah, can't otherwise recall the
- 1:28Speaker 2: title of the show.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I'm here with a huge smile on my face.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I noticed you want to share with our listeners why
- 1:35Speaker 2: you're so happy.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Favorite team beat our rivals 3-2, but I'm well aware
- 1:40Speaker 1: it was a very weakened Liverpool side. But for Manchester United, yeah,
- 1:45Speaker 1: we love to make things very hard for ourselves.
- 1:47Speaker 1: We were leading 2-0 in the first half, and in
- 1:50Speaker 1: the second half, within the 1st 7 to 8 minutes,
- 1:53Speaker 1: two mistakes, two mistakes. It's all it took for Liverpool
- 1:57Speaker 1: to equalize 2-2.
- 1:59Speaker 2: So you're saying that that they shouldn't have been able
- 2:02Speaker 2: to do that.
- 2:03Speaker 1: OK. There was one where I'll show you the video
- 2:05Speaker 1: in a while. You, you were even ask me what's
- 2:07Speaker 1: the keeper doing? You would even ask me that question.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Then up steps Kobe Manu to make it 3-2. Kobe,
- 2:15Speaker 1: Kobe Manu. Kobe Kobe, yes.
- 2:17Speaker 2: You said it wrong first. I'm just following.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Hello, it's 6:20 a.m. I'm having lack of sleep as usual,
- 2:23Speaker 1: but I'm happy. Let's get the show on
- 2:24Speaker 1: the road.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I was just, I was just telling Joakim that like, um,
- 2:27Speaker 2: you know, sometimes we want to do a video based
- 2:29Speaker 2: on whatever the score is, right.
- 2:32Speaker 2: it's not so fun when you win.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Happy Star Wars Day. I'm very excited today because I
- 2:40Speaker 1: can say this, but I cannot reveal my thoughts on
- 2:44Speaker 1: the clip. So later on tonight, I think I'll be
- 2:48Speaker 1: catching an exclusive thirty-minute preview of the Mandalorian and Grogu.
- 2:55Speaker 1: But we got loads of activities happening over at Shore
- 2:58Speaker 1: Lido area as we build up towards the movie's
- 3:00Speaker 1: release.
- 3:01Speaker 2: When is the movie releasing actually?
- 3:02Speaker 1: I think in about
- 3:03Speaker 1: 2 weeks.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I'm surprised they didn't try to make it by 4th
- 3:06Speaker 2: of May.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Yeah, because I
- 3:08Speaker 1: think this week in cinemas, Mortal Kombat
- 3:11Speaker 1: 2. You have to see the
- 3:14Speaker 2: film. I, I am, I'm really excited too, but first, um,
- 3:17Speaker 2: I'm going with my girlies for The Devil Wears Prada.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So, so that first, that first, and then there's only
- 3:24Speaker 2: that many movies I can squeeze in in one week.
- 3:26Speaker 2: It's
- 3:26Speaker 1: a bit
- 3:26Speaker 2: of
- 3:26Speaker 1: a movie for us. So you know what, when we
- 3:28Speaker 1: come back here on the show, let me prep you
- 3:30Speaker 1: for the Mandalorian and Gro as well as Mortal Kombat 2. Wait,
- 3:33Speaker 2: what's actually what era is it in now? Like The
- 3:37Speaker 2: Mandalorian and Grogu, it's a follow-up, direct follow up from
- 3:40Speaker 2: The Mandalorian, the series, right? OK, OK, just to be clear,
- 3:44Speaker 2: there's so many spinoffs.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It's like, you know what I mean, like of the universe.
- 3:47Speaker 1: But I think Star Wars fans are relieved that it's
- 3:50Speaker 1: being directed and produced by people who did the television series,
- 3:55Speaker 1: which is an amazing one to Star Wars.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yes, yes, I remember that. OK, so
- 3:58Speaker 1: if
- 3:58Speaker 1: you're making plans to watch either Mortal Kombat 2 or
- 4:02Speaker 1: The Mandalorian and Grogu, that's happening May 21st for Mandalorian
- 4:06Speaker 1: and Grogu, and for Mortal Kombat 2, it's out in
- 4:09Speaker 1: cinemas May 7th.
- 4:11Speaker 1: And as a Mortal Kombat gamer and fan since I
- 4:15Speaker 1: was 7, even though I should not have been at 7,
- 4:19Speaker 2: too graphics, yeah,
- 4:20Speaker 1: it's the kind of game where I'll play when my
- 4:22Speaker 1: mom's at work. The moment I hear the door open,
- 4:25Speaker 1: I'll switch off my game machine and run to my
- 4:27Speaker 2: room to Tom and Jerry or something Tom and Jerry.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Or whatever you watched back then, I
- 4:34Speaker 1: don't know. OK, not a spoiler because if you play
- 4:37Speaker 1: Mortal Kombat, the new version.
- 4:40Speaker 1: You will know that once you log into the game,
- 4:42Speaker 1: the game actually shows you a snippet of what you
- 4:45Speaker 1: can expect in Mortal Kombat 2, the movie. It's a
- 4:48Speaker 1: fight between Kong Lau, my favorite character of all time.
- 4:51Speaker 2: That's the guy with the, the hat that slices people, right? OK,
- 4:55Speaker 1: Kong Lau and
- 4:56Speaker 2: Liu Kang.
- 4:57Speaker 1: And, OK, I can say this now. Having seen the
- 4:59Speaker 1: movie already for an exclusive Warner Brothers screening, that fight in.
- 5:04Speaker 1: The film, it's fight of the
- 5:06Speaker 2: movie legendary.
- 5:07Speaker 1: It's beautifully done.
- 5:08Speaker 2: So, but it's all real, right? The fight sequence in
- 5:12Speaker 2: the movie, yeah, it's real.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So I can say that Mortal Kombat 2, they say
- 5:16Speaker 1: there's no such thing as a good sequel. It's miles
- 5:19Speaker 1: better than Mortal Kombat 1.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Well that's good because I actually enjoyed Mortal Kombat 1.
- 5:23Speaker 1: The character's
- 5:24Speaker 1: fight styles, Kung Lao's head, Liu Kang's fireball, everything.
- 5:29Speaker 1: It's very, very accurate accurate
- 5:31Speaker 2: to the game.
- 5:33Speaker 1: So they gave the game a lot of respect.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I think that's the fear, right, for a lot of
- 5:37Speaker 2: people who are big fans of like a book or
- 5:39Speaker 2: a game or something that got adapted into a movie.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Like the fear is always like it doesn't live up
- 5:43Speaker 2: to your imagination. And
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna make a small prediction. Adeline Rudolph, the actress
- 5:48Speaker 1: that plays Princess Kitana, she's gonna steal
- 5:50Speaker 2: the show
- 5:53Speaker 1: and for Mandalorian and Grogu, you have about 2 weeks
- 5:55Speaker 1: to go on Disney Plus and catch.
- 5:57Speaker 1: All the seasons of it because the movie will be
- 6:00Speaker 1: a direct continuation from the series of Disney Plus.
- 6:03Speaker 2: I, yeah, yeah, clearly we have different tastes in films
- 6:07Speaker 2: and movies. So I will definitely have to do a
- 6:09Speaker 2: catch up again. I watched the Mandalorian one like ages ago,
- 6:12Speaker 2: so a refresher is required. And
- 6:14Speaker 1: remember, Mandalorian and Grogu is set between Star Wars Episode
- 6:18Speaker 1: 6 and Star Wars Episode 7.
- 6:21Speaker 2: In case you need to recap the er the timeline.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Lots to catch up on. I think 2026 set out
- 6:28Speaker 2: to be quite a fantastic year for TV shows and movies.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Now we want to chase the Monday blues away for
- 6:33Speaker 2: you by opening up phone lines and letting you give
- 6:36Speaker 2: your school a shout out.
- 6:38Speaker 1: If I'm not wrong, some schools are having their exams today. Oh, really?
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah. What would this be considered? Is it like the
- 6:45Speaker 2: midterm time already? No, right?
- 6:47Speaker 1: What's the term for it now? Weighted assessments maybe.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah, what's the official, I mean, I wonder because sometimes
- 6:52Speaker 2: you got mid-year exams, we have like.
- 6:54Speaker 2: The prep towards the mid-year exams, so it could be
- 6:57Speaker 2: anything at this point. Let us know. Let us know
- 6:59Speaker 2: if you are experiencing that right now. The term a
- 7:01Speaker 2: thing of the past. Um, well, give us a call
- 7:06Speaker 2: still regardless if you want to just wish your friends
- 7:08Speaker 2: good luck or tell us what's going on, 669-11987. Like
- 7:12Speaker 2: we always say, it doesn't matter if you're in primary,
- 7:14Speaker 2: secondary school, tertiary, university, or even an alumni. Let us,
- 7:19Speaker 2: let us know.
- 7:20Speaker 2: What you have in mind.
- 7:21Speaker 1: What's surprising is we had a couple of teachers had
- 7:23Speaker 1: 2
- 7:25Speaker 2: teachers so far, right? We might get more. So phone
- 7:28Speaker 2: lines are open once again, and you can also drop
- 7:30Speaker 2: us a message. We can read those out too, but
- 7:33Speaker 2: mainly we want to get your calls through. Once again. Morning.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Who's this? Ed. Ed Lin, was that your dad with you,
- 7:40Speaker 2: Ed Lin? OK. Ed Lin, which school are you from?
- 7:44Speaker 2: Let us know. Primary.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Nan
- 7:46Speaker 2: Primary. This is the first time we're getting a Neon
- 7:48Speaker 2: Primary submission.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Yeah. So Ed, what's amazing about Neon Primary?
- 7:53Speaker 1: The food, I guess,
- 7:54Speaker 2: um, probably
- 7:55Speaker 1: like the, the noodles from
- 7:58Speaker 2: stall 5. Stall 5. OK, take a note, joking.
- 8:02Speaker 1: OK.
- 8:02Speaker 1: What level are you in this year Adeline. Are you
- 8:05Speaker 1: having any exams right now as we
- 8:06Speaker 1: speak?
- 8:07Speaker 2: Um, yeah, this week I have left on Friday. We
- 8:10Speaker 2: want
- 8:11Speaker 2: Dedicate a song to you to make sure that you
- 8:14Speaker 2: study hard and do well. What song can we get you?
- 8:16Speaker 2: Any song by Cat. Alright, we got you. That's coming
- 8:20Speaker 2: up right now. You have a fantastic day, OK?
- 8:22Speaker 1: OK.
- 8:23Speaker 1: Bye. Bye.
- 8:24Speaker 2: Bye. I am unsure whether this is should be categorized
- 8:28Speaker 2: under Bodo crime. Maybe it should be since we haven't
- 8:30Speaker 2: done it in super
- 8:31Speaker 2: long.
- 8:31Speaker 1: OK, so here we go. 123.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Bodo crime, Bo, Bodo.
- 8:38Speaker 1: Choose your adjective carefully. This time
- 8:40Speaker 2: I was in Bishan. That's why Joakim is very defensive.
- 8:45Speaker 1: So give me
- 8:46Speaker 2: the streets of Bishan.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Hey,
- 8:50Speaker 2: no, let me tell you, this is a really bold crime.
- 8:52Speaker 1: It's the minority spoiling the name, OK, any other location
- 8:56Speaker 1: here in
- 8:56Speaker 2: Singapore. Don't get too defensive. Don't worry. No one got hurt,
- 8:59Speaker 2: but people are frustrated, OK? Um, so you know how
- 9:03Speaker 2: some delivery people are very busy. They've got like truckloads
- 9:06Speaker 2: of things to, to drop off, right?
- 9:08Speaker 2: And sometimes if they go to a particular block or estate,
- 9:11Speaker 2: be it a HDB estate or a condo or whatever,
- 9:15Speaker 2: there may be multiple orders from the same apartment block
- 9:18Speaker 2: that have uh deliveries on the same day, correct? So
- 9:21Speaker 2: the same delivery guy will pick everything up and then
- 9:22Speaker 2: he'll go floor by floor and just put it out.
- 9:26Speaker 2: What happened was, um,
- 9:27Speaker 2: This delivery man, quite poor thing also lah, he allegedly
- 9:31Speaker 2: left a bunch of parcels at the void deck while
- 9:34Speaker 2: rushing off to make other deliveries. So his intention was he,
- 9:38Speaker 2: he will leave it there and then he'll come back
- 9:39Speaker 2: and get it while he's making the other deliveries, correct?
- 9:42Speaker 2: So once he's done, he'll come back and get it. Um, however,
- 9:45Speaker 2: unfortunately for some residents in Bishan, they noticed some items
- 9:48Speaker 2: missing from their delivery packages.
- 9:51Speaker 2: So this delivery man um has had to reimburse these
- 9:56Speaker 2: affected customers.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I know, I know. He had to, because it's his responsibility,
- 10:01Speaker 2: you know, to take care of the packages while he
- 10:03Speaker 2: was doing other deliveries, I guess. I know he was
- 10:06Speaker 2: probably trying to make it easier for himself by not
- 10:08Speaker 2: having to run back all the way to the vehicle
- 10:10Speaker 2: to offload the parcels, right? But um, he said that
- 10:14Speaker 2: the reason why he left it there was because there
- 10:17Speaker 2: was a CCTV camera at the block. So he felt
- 10:20Speaker 2: like it was safe. No one's going to try and
- 10:21Speaker 2: steal it or do anything funny with it. He also
- 10:24Speaker 2: sent photos and videos of the scene, you know, as evidence,
- 10:27Speaker 2: but
- 10:28Speaker 2: The footage showed that multiple packages got torn open, um,
- 10:32Speaker 2: some items were left scattered on the ground. So who's
- 10:34Speaker 2: the culprit that was doing that?
- 10:36Speaker 2: They have to find, they have to find out.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I'm guessing the only way to go to the police
- 10:40Speaker 1: right now.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah, so they did. The courier company has launched an investigation.
- 10:47Speaker 2: I think a police report has been made. So we'll
- 10:49Speaker 2: see where it goes. I think the company itself is
- 10:52Speaker 2: assisting affected customers, even though, you know, these packages are
- 10:55Speaker 2: your e-commerce packages that are like, you know, you maybe
- 10:58Speaker 2: you buy like 20 to $30 worth of stuff, but
- 11:01Speaker 2: It it's still money. It's still items and you, you know,
- 11:05Speaker 2: even though they're getting reimbursed, they have to go through
- 11:07Speaker 2: the process of reordering again. So
- 11:09Speaker 1: I'm
- 11:09Speaker 1: not too sure which company this is, but there are
- 11:11Speaker 1: others where they actually have delivery men pair up in
- 11:14Speaker 1: teams of two.
- 11:16Speaker 1: So one will arrange the packages and all that. The
- 11:19Speaker 1: other one goes up to make the delivery. There
- 11:22Speaker 2: we go. Yeah. So, I really hope that everyone who's
- 11:25Speaker 2: been affected, including the delivery, you know, get a resolution
- 11:29Speaker 2: very
- 11:30Speaker 2: soon.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I mean, having to reimburse out of your own pocket.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Buy a big ticket item painful, man. So,
- 11:37Speaker 2: look, I mean, I, I'm no delivery person, but I
- 11:39Speaker 2: do sometimes receive things at my doorstep. Maybe I order
- 11:42Speaker 2: or things get sent over, right? So I did install
- 11:45Speaker 2: like a CCTV camera at my, like at my doorstep, um,
- 11:50Speaker 2: thanks to my dad. He's very handy.
- 11:52Speaker 2: He literally got it for I think 30 bucks or
- 11:55Speaker 2: something on Shopee, if I'm not wrong, installed it, and
- 11:59Speaker 2: there's a talkback function too. So if and when I
- 12:03Speaker 2: see someone lurking around my doorstep, I can just press
- 12:06Speaker 2: the button to talk back and be like, yes, can
- 12:08Speaker 2: I help you?
- 12:08Speaker 1: I mean, it's easier to find the culprit if it's
- 12:11Speaker 1: a condo because it's a gated community, right?
- 12:13Speaker 1: But in terms of like your HDB where it's open
- 12:15Speaker 1: to anyone,
- 12:17Speaker 1: we'll see.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but I think it's, it's slightly different because it
- 12:25Speaker 2: doesn't matter if HDB is the same thing, just put
- 12:27Speaker 2: it at your door, you know.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Let's see Madonna. He'll be here in Singapore very soon
- 12:32Speaker 1: with Post Malone for the big.
- 12:36Speaker 1: World tour anyway, um, yes, new fear unlocked, and this
- 12:41Speaker 1: is all caught on video which has since gone viral
- 12:44Speaker 1: and even I think the authorities and Grab themselves are
- 12:47Speaker 1: looking into this because for the driver it comes from
- 12:50Speaker 1: Grab unfortunately it's always the handful of bad apples that
- 12:54Speaker 1: spoil the good name.
- 12:57Speaker 1: This driver, the passenger was wondering why is the car
- 13:01Speaker 1: a bit shaky,
- 13:02Speaker 2: like swerving around,
- 13:04Speaker 1: and what was the driver touching on his right leg area?
- 13:07Speaker 1: Touching his right leg. The passenger realized the driver was
- 13:10Speaker 1: watching an adult video
- 13:13Speaker 1: while he was
- 13:14Speaker 1: driving, yeah, on a second phone.
- 13:17Speaker 2: What? Wait, was it visible to the passenger? what was
- 13:21Speaker 2: on the screen, or if
- 13:22Speaker 1: it wasn't visible, it was definitely audible.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Is he mentally OK, the driver? I mean, I don't
- 13:30Speaker 2: think that's normal behavior at all. Yeah, so I mean, even, OK, look,
- 13:34Speaker 2: even watching a random YouTube video alone is enough for
- 13:36Speaker 2: you to be like, Hey, sir, can you, um, focus
- 13:39Speaker 2: on the road, you know what I mean? Let alone
- 13:41Speaker 2: an adult video. So
- 13:42Speaker 1: thankfully nobody was hurt, but there's an investigation going on now,
- 13:46Speaker 1: to which I'm just wondering,
- 13:47Speaker 2: it's just weird,
- 13:48Speaker 1: like, investigate what it's there already.
- 13:51Speaker 2: I mean, I guess they have to verify whether it's true, yeah,
- 13:56Speaker 1: but as of now the driver has been suspended,
- 13:58Speaker 2: yes, that's the best option. And
- 14:00Speaker 1: if you need a laugh this Monday morning, please go
- 14:04Speaker 1: to the comment section. Oh
- 14:05Speaker 2: my
- 14:06Speaker 1: God,
- 14:06Speaker 2: here we go.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Somebody was saying, Uncle, your car, why are you touching
- 14:09Speaker 1: the gear.
- 14:11Speaker 2: And on the wrong side, ah, by the way. The
- 14:14Speaker 2: kale stick, it should be on the left.
- 14:16Speaker 2: OK, so as of um the 1st of May, which
- 14:19Speaker 2: was Friday,
- 14:20Speaker 1: Labor Day, yeah,
- 14:21Speaker 2: um, 987 Secret Sound has officially ended. Congratulations to our winner.
- 14:27Speaker 2: If you're curious to know what the actual answer was, OK, I,
- 14:33Speaker 2: I extracted a little snippet. Here it is. The water filter,
- 14:36Speaker 2: which is affixed at the tap, and then uh this
- 14:39Speaker 2: water filter has those kind of 3, it has 3
- 14:41Speaker 2: different modes. So as you flick the toggle between the
- 14:43Speaker 2: 3 different modes, then, uh, that sound is created. OK,
- 14:46Speaker 2: so he went on quite a long explanation, but basically,
- 14:49Speaker 2: in short,
- 14:51Speaker 2: It's the switching of modes on a water filter.
- 14:53Speaker 1: I think
- 14:53Speaker 1: he really went with the clues that were given out
- 14:57Speaker 1: over the last week or so to win $10,000.
- 15:01Speaker 2: And let's just have a quick listen, OK.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I do not have a water filter on the tap
- 15:08Speaker 2: or I'm assuming it's on the tap, is it? or
- 15:10Speaker 2: something at home. It's attached to it attached to it. OK,
- 15:12Speaker 2: so I don't, I've never had that. So I did
- 15:15Speaker 2: not even guess that for a moment. I had no clue.
- 15:18Speaker 1: If you need video evidence on what the sound is
- 15:21Speaker 1: and even the actual recording itself, it's available for you
- 15:24Speaker 1: on 987's Instagram and on TikTok.
- 15:27Speaker 2: And we assure you from start to end, nobody knew anything.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Boss Janice went to the grave.
- 15:33Speaker 2: With the secret. Yes, she would have, yeah.
- 15:36Speaker 1: We had no idea what it
- 15:37Speaker 1: was.
- 15:37Speaker 2: But thank you for playing along with us. So it's
- 15:39Speaker 2: officially over. Please enjoy the rest of our show.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Romance here in Singapore.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Yes. Anything you want to update us on? Nothing. Nothing.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Nothing at all. Again,
- 15:49Speaker 2: I await the day
- 15:50Speaker 1: I have updates. Again, my promise to you, Sonia, and
- 15:53Speaker 1: to you if you tune in as well, given how
- 15:56Speaker 1: it's been of a radio interest, my love life, especially
- 15:59Speaker 1: here on the show. Look,
- 16:01Speaker 1: These are the kind of things where I don't want
- 16:03Speaker 1: to be covered on Mothership or CNA, but for 987,
- 16:06Speaker 1: if you're listening in, hey, it's my story.
- 16:08Speaker 2: You are here with us. Exactly. We share almost pretty
- 16:11Speaker 2: much everything about our lives.
- 16:12Speaker 1: So my promise is once there's something official, like we
- 16:16Speaker 1: are boyfriend girlfriend.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Friend, OK, then I'll share with you here on air, ah, yeah, yeah,
- 16:21Speaker 1: dating scene all on it, OK, but, um, in Singapore,
- 16:24Speaker 1: you know, on the back of plenty of news about
- 16:26Speaker 1: our TFR, there's a new task force apparently. I don't
- 16:29Speaker 1: think they're calling it a task force, but yes, uh,
- 16:31Speaker 1: many ministries combined and then.
- 16:35Speaker 1: We saw this one, I think on Friday where our
- 16:39Speaker 1: friends over at GovTech. They were seeking feedback for visuals
- 16:44Speaker 1: of a potential, potential dating service called first, hang on,
- 16:50Speaker 1: it's called? No, no, no, no,
- 16:54Speaker 2: is it not called First Date?
- 16:55Speaker 1: First Date, yes,
- 16:56Speaker 2: right, yeah, yeah,
- 16:57Speaker 1: I was gonna say first match.
- 16:58Speaker 2: No date, yeah, I remember this, yeah,
- 17:00Speaker 1: so where using SingPass, you log into it.
- 17:05Speaker 1: You answer a questionnaire and then it will match you
- 17:08Speaker 1: to who they think is fitting for you.
- 17:10Speaker 1: And both of you go for the first meal sponsored
- 17:13Speaker 1: by the government.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Where
- 17:17Speaker 2: can you pick the meal place or no?
- 17:19Speaker 1: I'm sure. I'm sure
- 17:19Speaker 1: there's a cap, you know. If not, everyone's going to
- 17:23Speaker 1: go for Oaka or the Lesamiro or whatsoever, right? But
- 17:28Speaker 1: the comment section, people are saying, hey, no need these
- 17:31Speaker 1: things lah. And then people are asking, are they really
- 17:35Speaker 1: addressing the issue? So I have two sides to this.
- 17:39Speaker 1: The first side is if this was done by Tinder
- 17:43Speaker 1: or Coffee Meets Bagel
- 17:45Speaker 2: or Hinge or whatever,
- 17:46Speaker 1: I
- 17:46Speaker 1: don't think anybody will bat an eyelid, but given how
- 17:49Speaker 1: it's Govtech, people are like, hey, are
- 17:51Speaker 1: you
- 17:52Speaker 2: OK, but the thing is, isn't that already happening on
- 17:54Speaker 2: the apps, like your dating apps? I mean, OK, I've
- 17:57Speaker 2: never been on a dating app, but
- 17:58Speaker 1: I'm neither have I
- 17:59Speaker 2: assuming that you have to fill in some information about
- 18:02Speaker 2: yourself and tell people about yourself. So in a way.
- 18:04Speaker 2: That's already what the dating sites are doing.
- 18:06Speaker 1: So the second side that I see is, you know,
- 18:09Speaker 1: how in this day and age we are slightly, I
- 18:14Speaker 1: won't say very, but slightly more materialistic, also a little bit.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I wonder as a man, if I were to bring
- 18:21Speaker 1: up someone and say, oh yeah, I'm using the first
- 18:24Speaker 1: date vouchers to pay for this meal. No, but
- 18:26Speaker 2: both
- 18:26Speaker 2: of you will know what, as in if you match,
- 18:29Speaker 2: both of you will go on the date.
- 18:30Speaker 1: So will I
- 18:31Speaker 1: be judged for it?
- 18:33Speaker 1: I don't know, her friends say you all met through
- 18:37Speaker 1: the first date app, you know, oh, he never paid
- 18:40Speaker 1: for the first meal. Or can you, like, you know,
- 18:43Speaker 1: you can use the first date thing to match the person,
- 18:46Speaker 2: yeah, to just get to know this person, and then
- 18:48Speaker 2: your next round is the first official date. That's how
- 18:51Speaker 2: I would feel
- 18:51Speaker 1: either that or you reject the first date offer. You
- 18:54Speaker 1: bring her somewhere else or him somewhere
- 18:55Speaker 1: else.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Then you waste the voucher.
- 18:57Speaker 1: But, but through first date I found.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Then who's going to use the voucher? That's true. And
- 19:03Speaker 2: I wonder whether you have to show that you are
- 19:05Speaker 2: the two people because you already registered via SingPass, right?
- 19:07Speaker 2: I wonder whether when you go and redeem this meal,
- 19:10Speaker 2: do you have to both prove your identity? Like you
- 19:13Speaker 2: can't just use it as like a, oh just go
- 19:15Speaker 2: eat lunch, you know. Yeah,
- 19:16Speaker 1: OK. And then on another side as well, is it
- 19:19Speaker 1: really solving the issue? Do we really need a sponsored
- 19:22Speaker 1: first meal?
- 19:23Speaker 2: I, OK, I feel like.
- 19:26Speaker 2: I'm thinking broader than the first meal situation. Like, OK,
- 19:29Speaker 2: to me, it's a bonus if the meal is complimentary
- 19:32Speaker 2: because we both met each other. OK, I'm fine with that,
- 19:34Speaker 2: to be honest, because I signed up, if I signed
- 19:36Speaker 2: up for this service on this app, I'm fully aware
- 19:40Speaker 2: that the first meal is going to be on the
- 19:41Speaker 2: government or whoever sponsored it, right? So in that sense,
- 19:45Speaker 2: I
- 19:45Speaker 2: I will not judge the guy for you because I, I,
- 19:48Speaker 2: I signed up fully knowing this is going to happen.
- 19:51Speaker 2: So I don't think any of us have a right
- 19:53Speaker 2: to judge. They're figuring it out.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I wonder
- 19:58Speaker 1: what's the people using it.
- 20:00Speaker 2: I, I heard that you have to be 35 and
- 20:03Speaker 2: below or something like that, right? Firstly,
- 20:05Speaker 2: Secondly, I think there was some, I mean, a lot
- 20:09Speaker 2: of people here in Singapore and the youth especially saying
- 20:11Speaker 2: that it's very hard to meet people nowadays. And a
- 20:15Speaker 2: lot of the interactions are, you know, social media and stuff,
- 20:18Speaker 2: which sometimes you don't get the best representation of a person.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Maybe this will help, depending on what kind of questions
- 20:24Speaker 2: they're asking in the questionnaire. I
- 20:25Speaker 1: mean, it's akin to swiping app that we have here
- 20:29Speaker 1: in Singapore and for you to say that, yeah, meeting
- 20:33Speaker 1: people is very difficult. Then I think about all these
- 20:36Speaker 1: interest groups that they have now that run clubs, you know,
- 20:38Speaker 1: whatever clubs you have.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I do see an upside with this app though, OK,
- 20:43Speaker 2: since it's tied to your SingPass, right, it eliminates quite
- 20:46Speaker 2: a lot of sketchy people.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Don't you agree? Because I've met people and friends who
- 20:51Speaker 2: have gone on dates, right, where the person doesn't even
- 20:53Speaker 2: give their real, they may not give you their real
- 20:57Speaker 2: information like real job or like real history, you know,
- 21:00Speaker 2: you don't even know whether this is the real person's name,
- 21:03Speaker 2: for example, like if you meet them on some app,
- 21:07Speaker 1: do you think finance agent or agents? They use this
- 21:12Speaker 1: to you a plan.
- 21:14Speaker 2: I, I don't think they will because now their SingPass
- 21:16Speaker 2: is tied to it. They can track your, how many
- 21:20Speaker 2: times can you go for this? I'm sure there's a
- 21:22Speaker 2: cap to the amount of times. So they only can
- 21:24Speaker 2: do it like once or twice, and that's it. It's
- 21:26Speaker 2: not very lucrative for
- 21:27Speaker 1: insurance agents. Hey, if I get a big whale of
- 21:29Speaker 1: a customer, why not, right?
- 21:31Speaker 1: 66, then again, the big wheel might not use this. 669-11987.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Would you use a service like this where it involves
- 21:41Speaker 1: your SingPass and then you might get a first date
- 21:44Speaker 1: a
- 21:44Speaker 1: complimentary meal
- 21:44Speaker 2: meal. Yeah, let us know. And even if you're attached
- 21:47Speaker 2: now or you're already married, it doesn't matter. Let's just
- 21:50Speaker 2: go in theory as well, OK? Would you have used this?
- 21:52Speaker 2: If you're single, tell us, would you?
- 21:54Speaker 2: Use this service. In exchange, we've got a wonderful experience
- 21:57Speaker 2: at Cha Mulan worth $100. They have new outlets freshly
- 22:02Speaker 2: opening in May in IMM North Point. It is a
- 22:06Speaker 2: bubble tea like you've never had before. So they've got
- 22:09Speaker 2: really cool ingredients that they use in Chinese desserts, TCM,
- 22:13Speaker 2: good for your health, your skin, peach gum, no fungus,
- 22:16Speaker 2: and 8 hours.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Poached pear, things like that. So yeah, give
- 22:18Speaker 1: us a call. I in North Point, Jurong Point City
- 22:24Speaker 1: suddenly bless the place
- 22:25Speaker 2: up. Exactly. Well, give us a call right now 669-11987.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Would you use a government dating app like what we
- 22:33Speaker 2: just mentioned? Talking about a new potential dating app. It's
- 22:37Speaker 2: an initiative by the government, OK.
- 22:40Speaker 2: We're not paid to say this at all or talk
- 22:41Speaker 2: about this, but it's just interesting because I feel like
- 22:45Speaker 2: the dating scene in Singapore has evolved quite a lot. Um,
- 22:50Speaker 2: maybe I'm not sure, correct me if I'm wrong, but
- 22:52Speaker 2: back then, because the clubbing scene was a lot more happening,
- 22:56Speaker 2: like during the time that I was in school and,
- 22:58Speaker 2: you know, as in my early twenties, right? I met
- 23:01Speaker 2: a lot of people through social events, like face to
- 23:03Speaker 2: face at parties.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Other events, you know, through friends. It was a lot
- 23:08Speaker 2: more social back then, don't you think?
- 23:10Speaker 1: I think it's still. It's a club.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Your office run clubs and your run clubs, matcha clubs,
- 23:18Speaker 1: people are meeting each other there or even your pop-up cafes.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Yeah, but how effective has it been going, the fact
- 23:24Speaker 2: that they have to do an initiative like
- 23:26Speaker 2: this.
- 23:26Speaker 1: OK, so our friends over at GovTech, in a nutshell,
- 23:29Speaker 1: they are introducing this thing called First Dates, and they're
- 23:31Speaker 1: asking you for feedback when it comes to the visuals
- 23:33Speaker 1: of the entire website and the app, step one, you
- 23:36Speaker 1: log in using SingPass. Step 2, you answer a questionnaire.
- 23:39Speaker 1: Step 3.
- 23:40Speaker 1: will match you to who they think is perfect for you,
- 23:42Speaker 1: and you both go on a first date at a
- 23:44Speaker 1: meal sponsored by the Gov Tech or this this app.
- 23:47Speaker 2: So I did share my views on it earlier. I said,
- 23:49Speaker 2: I don't think it's a terrible idea because you eliminate
- 23:53Speaker 2: a bunch of sketchy people due to the fact that
- 23:55Speaker 2: you got to sign in to your SingPass. I think
- 23:57Speaker 2: that may turn some people off who are on the
- 24:00Speaker 2: apps for the wrong reasons.
- 24:01Speaker 1: Got a text coming in from Aaliyah. Hey, Sonia and Joakim,
- 24:05Speaker 1: let's be real.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Some people will sign up just for the free meals.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Online chatter already suggests concerns about people abusing the system
- 24:13Speaker 1: for free
- 24:14Speaker 1: food.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I, I would not be surprised. I would not be. Unfortunately, some,
- 24:18Speaker 2: some people are just like that. Yeah,
- 24:20Speaker 1: 111 coming in from Jennifer rather. Hey guys, I feel
- 24:24Speaker 1: dating is personal, even emotional. The idea of a government-linked platform,
- 24:29Speaker 1: especially one tied to SingPass.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Is it challenging? I, I know that's one of the
- 24:35Speaker 2: things that we raised.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I
- 24:36Speaker 1: feel uncomfortable.
- 24:37Speaker 1: There you go.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So, um, you know how Jeremy and I met, right?
- 24:41Speaker 2: We actually met at an event that was run by
- 24:43Speaker 2: the government. I know, I know. So that
- 24:48Speaker 2: This is just, I mean, I, this, you don't write
- 24:52Speaker 2: stories like that, OK?
- 24:53Speaker 1: Can I give
- 24:53Speaker 1: you a spoiler? Yeah, this was supposed to be my
- 24:55Speaker 1: opening line at your wedding. Oh, OK, OK, OK. I
- 24:58Speaker 1: was gonna say, you know, ladies and gentlemen, Jeremy and Sonia,
- 25:01Speaker 1: they have very successful careers, and they go to all
- 25:04Speaker 1: sorts of cool events and places. For, for Jeremy, I mean,
- 25:08Speaker 1: in the finance world, he's well known for Sonia and
- 25:10Speaker 1: the media and all these clubs and events. Where do
- 25:13Speaker 1: they meet?
- 25:14Speaker 1: Because Jeremy had nothing better to do with his time,
- 25:17Speaker 1: had to go for a government sponsored singles cruise.
- 25:20Speaker 2: OK, I need to clarify that he was just helping
- 25:23Speaker 2: his friend out who ran the events company. He was
- 25:25Speaker 2: just being a good friend.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Jeremy, do something better, your time. Never mind. See, he
- 25:30Speaker 1: met you. Exactly. I should have gone for this
- 25:33Speaker 1: cruise.
- 25:35Speaker 2: That's why they were laughing because they said this whole initiative,
- 25:38Speaker 2: which was by the government at that time, was to
- 25:40Speaker 2: allow singles to meet and get to know each other
- 25:43Speaker 2: on board a cruise, and then turns out the people
- 25:46Speaker 2: who are not even participants ended up getting together
- 25:48Speaker 2: instead.
- 25:49Speaker 1: So you know what, the calls coming in 669-11987 or
- 25:53Speaker 1: you can.
- 25:54Speaker 1: 90050987. Would you take up this first date service thing? Yeah,
- 26:01Speaker 2: let us know, OK? And if you need more information,
- 26:04Speaker 2: just do a quick search. I'm sure you'll be able
- 26:06Speaker 2: to find it on your news websites and all. In exchange,
- 26:08Speaker 2: a $100 experience to enjoy all the bubble tea you want,
- 26:13Speaker 2: and this bubble tea got health benefits.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Fits thanks to Cha Mulan. Yeah, that could be a
- 26:17Speaker 2: first date as well. That could be. Back of a
- 26:19Speaker 2: pretty interesting piece of news that got the internet buzzing
- 26:23Speaker 2: last week on Friday specifically. Um, there's a potential new
- 26:27Speaker 2: dating service that's started by the government, OK, and I know, OK,
- 26:32Speaker 2: before everyone thinks that it's so uncool, so uncool, but
- 26:35Speaker 2: Let's not forget, I actually met germs on board a
- 26:39Speaker 2: cruise that was initiated by the government for single people.
- 26:42Speaker 1: OK, at least for that piece of knowledge, right, it's
- 26:46Speaker 1: very verbal, but using your SingPass to log in.
- 26:51Speaker 1: That means someone has
- 26:52Speaker 2: your information. Well, but likewise for that one, you have
- 26:55Speaker 2: to key in all your information, and you have to
- 26:58Speaker 2: probably provide your passport, you know what I mean? So
- 27:01Speaker 2: you do eliminate some sketchy people,
- 27:02Speaker 1: but I don't know because for this first day using
- 27:05Speaker 1: your SingPass.
- 27:07Speaker 1: There's someone who might know your dating history because of
- 27:09Speaker 1: SingPass or today, uh, person A went out with person B. Uh,
- 27:14Speaker 1: next week, person A going with person C again. Oh,
- 27:17Speaker 2: yeah, that's why I said I think there has to
- 27:19Speaker 2: be like a cap to it because of the free meal,
- 27:22Speaker 1: especially the
- 27:23Speaker 1: office gossip will be quite piping hot tea. Uh, I
- 27:26Speaker 1: want to say good morning to Seth. Morning.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Guy, and a very good morning to Joe. 3-2 win
- 27:31Speaker 1: definitely pumped your morning up, I believe. I think, why
- 27:35Speaker 1: stop with just first date being incentivized? Why not make
- 27:38Speaker 1: it as such that if the couple gets married, there's
- 27:41Speaker 1: additional benefits like vouchers or subsidies and combo with housing
- 27:46Speaker 1: and having kids gets you more benefits.
- 27:48Speaker 2: Wow, that's long term thinking.
- 27:50Speaker 1: That's a long term thing. Can you imagine you use this.
- 27:52Speaker 1: First date service, you actually match, it goes well, you
- 27:54Speaker 1: both agree to get married, guaranteed BTOQ number.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I'm curious, you are not in a romantic relationship, but
- 27:59Speaker 2: they just go ahead and do it because they're like,
- 28:07Speaker 2: oh yeah, it could be like roommates. I still can
- 28:10Speaker 2: own my own house.
- 28:12Speaker 1: It's marriage. That's the
- 28:13Speaker 2: thing, yeah, that's the worry, right?
- 28:15Speaker 1: One more coming in from John. Hey guys, let's get
- 28:17Speaker 1: real and let nature take its course. Would you like
- 28:19Speaker 1: the government to track who you dated or monitor your conversations?
- 28:23Speaker 2: What? How to monitor your conversations,
- 28:25Speaker 1: John? I, I don't think they'll monitor
- 28:27Speaker 1: that
- 28:27Speaker 2: lah. I think that's some major privacy issues, man.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Or do you expect the gov to also provide you
- 28:32Speaker 1: with a staycation voucher?
- 28:34Speaker 2: I also can
- 28:35Speaker 1: after a successful dating
- 28:36Speaker 1: match?
- 28:39Speaker 2: Hey, that's a good idea, man.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Oh, so first day they sponsor and the first staycation sponsor,
- 28:44Speaker 2: is it? Yeah, why not? But once again, how do
- 28:48Speaker 2: you eliminate the people that are doing this, not for
- 28:51Speaker 2: the right reasons. That one is going to be very tough.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Very tough. There has to be, yeah. Anyway, um, this
- 28:59Speaker 2: is still a developing story. They're still getting feedback from
- 29:02Speaker 2: the general public to see whether it's, you know, worthwhile
- 29:04Speaker 2: to launch proper. No, but then what would you be
- 29:09Speaker 2: encouraging in a way, right? That's true. Like what if
- 29:12Speaker 2: you don't.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Actually see a future with this person, then you go
- 29:16Speaker 2: for a staycation
- 29:17Speaker 1: is
- 29:17Speaker 2: just for the free staycation is very
- 29:18Speaker 1: tricky.
- 29:19Speaker 2: It's very tricky.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I was gonna say what kind of hotels they will
- 29:21Speaker 1: offer because I'm gonna take it up. If you tell
- 29:24Speaker 1: me Barracks Hotel Sentosa
- 29:25Speaker 2: I
- 29:25Speaker 2: think you better not say this on air. You better
- 29:28Speaker 2: not say this on air, OK.
- 29:31Speaker 2: I worry for
- 29:32Speaker 1: you.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Give us a call 669-11987. Would you sign
- 29:38Speaker 2: up for an app like that or a service like that, um,
- 29:41Speaker 2: especially since it's run by the government. Let us know
- 29:44Speaker 2: and phone lines are open, 669-11987. Our incentive to you
- 29:49Speaker 2: is a $100 experience thanks to Cha Mulan.
- 29:51Speaker 2: Beautiful bubble tea place,
- 29:53Speaker 1: yeah, involving this whole first dates thing where long story short,
- 29:58Speaker 1: you log in using SingPass, you do a questionnaire. It
- 30:02Speaker 1: will match you with someone they think it's perfect for you.
- 30:04Speaker 2: The
- 30:04Speaker 2: algorithm will think for you and
- 30:06Speaker 1: you
- 30:06Speaker 1: go for your first date sponsored by First Date, the app.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Would you take it up because of SingPass and all that?
- 30:15Speaker 1: One coming in from Eileen who says, Morning, Sonia and Joakim.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Come to think about it.
- 30:19Speaker 1: They are asking for SingPass maybe because they also clear
- 30:23Speaker 1: the first verification of whether the person actually single. Sad
- 30:29Speaker 1: to say there are too many married people out there
- 30:32Speaker 1: trying to
- 30:32Speaker 1: date.
- 30:33Speaker 2: That's what I said. So like earlier on, I said
- 30:35Speaker 2: I don't think it's a bad idea because it eliminates
- 30:37Speaker 2: sketchy people.
- 30:39Speaker 2: It really does. Sketchy people will never agree to put
- 30:43Speaker 2: their sing and their details for a first date. They
- 30:46Speaker 2: will not. They will not. In fact, some of them
- 30:49Speaker 2: may even go on dating apps and not put their
- 30:50Speaker 2: real name.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Yes, if you think about it plenty, we've seen plenty
- 30:54Speaker 2: of that
- 30:54Speaker 1: apparently someone used my face as Michael Tan.
- 30:57Speaker 2: Same, I don't know what name mine was, but, um,
- 31:00Speaker 2: some listener actually sent me, it was Ben King and myself.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Our pictures were out there. If I'm not wrong. I
- 31:07Speaker 2: think it was Ben. I think it was Ben.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Please, so if you see Sonia or myself on any
- 31:10Speaker 1: dating
- 31:11Speaker 1: apps,
- 31:12Speaker 2: it's not us, it's not us, FYI.
- 31:15Speaker 2: OK, we're talking about a potential new dating app and
- 31:18Speaker 2: service called First Date, an initiative by the government, and
- 31:22Speaker 2: by the way, we're not paid to say this at all.
- 31:25Speaker 2: We were just debating on whether or not people will
- 31:28Speaker 2: find it appealing.
- 31:29Speaker 1: Yes, inspired by First Dates where SingPass is being used
- 31:34Speaker 1: before you actually go on a first date, which sponsored
- 31:36Speaker 1: by the First Date app from GovTech.
- 31:38Speaker 1: What are your thoughts? Wanna say good morning to Winston.
- 31:42Speaker 1: Winston on WhatsApp. Morning, Sojo. Come to think about it
- 31:46Speaker 1: from other listeners' ideas, they will probably provide some government
- 31:50Speaker 1: incentive like giving CDC vouchers or SG cultural pass to
- 31:55Speaker 1: go
- 31:55Speaker 1: dating.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, if you get a bonus to
- 31:59Speaker 2: like go catch a movie or catch a theater play
- 32:02Speaker 2: or something or, you know, a local production, that could
- 32:06Speaker 2: be a cute
- 32:06Speaker 2: date.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Wanna say good morning.
- 32:07Speaker 1: Caleb, morning, Sonia and Joakim. My wife and I are
- 32:10Speaker 1: testament to the successful case of a government intervention. We
- 32:14Speaker 1: met on a government dating service called the SDN, the
- 32:17Speaker 1: Social Development Network. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Is it still running
- 32:20Speaker 1: or no longer? I'll see. Where we also had to
- 32:23Speaker 1: log in with our SingPass back then. Fast forward 12
- 32:25Speaker 1: years later, we are happily married with a kid. Giving
- 32:29Speaker 1: it a shot was literally life-changing for us.
- 32:31Speaker 2: See,
- 32:32Speaker 2: see, OK. There can be successful stories coming out of it.
- 32:36Speaker 2: So I, I wouldn't.
- 32:37Speaker 2: eliminate this
- 32:38Speaker 2: idea.
- 32:38Speaker 1: Another one coming in from Agnes. Not applicable for me,
- 32:41Speaker 1: but I think it's a good thing for the female,
- 32:43Speaker 1: as like what Mo said, it eliminates dodgy guys and
- 32:46Speaker 1: also makes people think again if they want to do
- 32:49Speaker 1: something inappropriate. It probably also allows both parties to meet
- 32:52Speaker 1: and speak with their head and heart, at least for
- 32:55Speaker 1: the first date. As a parent, I feel safer if
- 32:57Speaker 1: I had a daughter who is signing up on this
- 33:00Speaker 1: dating platform. Oh, OK.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Like if they're like just going into the dating scene,
- 33:04Speaker 2: I guess if you're still really young.
- 33:06Speaker 2: But in a way, right, I think it also works
- 33:09Speaker 2: for the people who are a little older, like in
- 33:12Speaker 2: their 30s or, because I think that the cap is 35, right?
- 33:15Speaker 2: It works because they're done playing games. They just want
- 33:19Speaker 2: to get straight to the point. Just, you know, be honest.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Tell me about you. That's it.
- 33:23Speaker 1: That
- 33:23Speaker 2: means
- 33:23Speaker 1: for me. I cannot use the app. You
- 33:26Speaker 1: can't
- 33:26Speaker 2: use the app. There are many other apps and there
- 33:30Speaker 2: are many.
- 33:31Speaker 2: I'm sure there are going to be many other government-led,
- 33:34Speaker 2: you know, events that you can meet other single people at.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I'll be joining those singles at 40s, OK?
- 33:41Speaker 2: Just join the club,
- 33:42Speaker 1: joking. No.
- 33:43Speaker 2: You'll be able to find someone there.
- 33:44Speaker 1: Can I keep to myself, please? Thank you.
- 33:47Speaker 2: I mean, it's arguable you want to find a wife
- 33:49Speaker 2: that can run with you in the future, right? Yeah,
- 33:51Speaker 2: you see, and we're on the topic of whether or
- 33:53Speaker 2: not you will utilize this, uh, government-initiated app that's called
- 33:58Speaker 2: First Date where you, uh, subscribe using your SingPass, you
- 34:02Speaker 2: match based on a questionnaire, and you can enjoy a
- 34:05Speaker 2: first date together for free.
- 34:07Speaker 1: So because they kept it at 35, I went tongue
- 34:10Speaker 1: in cheek going, Oh, I can't use the app and
- 34:12Speaker 1: all that,
- 34:13Speaker 2: to which I said, Joakim, just join a club. Maybe
- 34:15Speaker 2: you can find.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Again, I, I, I don't want to join a run club.
- 34:19Speaker 1: I want to keep running to myself, and again, I'm
- 34:22Speaker 1: gonna say this, most of the girls in running clubs
- 34:26Speaker 1: are taken already.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Really? Are you sure?
- 34:29Speaker 1: Trust,
- 34:30Speaker 2: or are they just pretending?
- 34:31Speaker 1: No, no, no, I've seen it. They're all taken. If,
- 34:33Speaker 1: if you're a guy joining a club date, don't lah.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Don't bother.
- 34:38Speaker 2: OK. How about this? Um, I organize a run club
- 34:42Speaker 2: day out, OK, but it's only for singles.
- 34:46Speaker 2: How about we do that? We'll see. I will cycle
- 34:48Speaker 2: on the side.
- 34:48Speaker 1: No, you must run. Wanna say good morning to Jay. Hi,
- 34:52Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim. Just for your information, I've been with
- 34:55Speaker 1: a running club for a while now, but I'm turning
- 34:58Speaker 1: 39 and I'm still single. So to Joakim, running club
- 35:01Speaker 1: doesn't mean you'll meet a partner, I guess. It doesn't mean,
- 35:03Speaker 2: it doesn't guarantee it. I'm just saying that it could
- 35:05Speaker 2: be a good way of meeting people. That's all.
- 35:09Speaker 1: No, it's
- 35:10Speaker 1: OK. OK. Again, when it happens, it will. I'll let
- 35:13Speaker 1: you know.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, I'm waiting. OK, I'm waiting. Don't
- 35:15Speaker 1: pressure me. I never. I,
- 35:17Speaker 2: when was I never really asked you. I just let
- 35:20Speaker 2: you tell me if anything, you know, develops. Actually, that's true.
- 35:23Speaker 2: I never really
- 35:24Speaker 1: pressure you. You know, you know, every Friday, Sonia will
- 35:27Speaker 1: ask you the same question, and the question is, so
- 35:30Speaker 1: how any weekend plans? Any plans? She's she's hoping I
- 35:33Speaker 1: would say I'm going on a date, correct?
- 35:35Speaker 2: Yes, yes,
- 35:36Speaker 1: I know.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Sometimes it happens.
- 35:39Speaker 2: But 90% of the time, I will tell you what
- 35:42Speaker 2: Joakim will tell me, um, and he doesn't mean to
- 35:44Speaker 2: open his mouth. He'd be like, OK, he will run,
- 35:47Speaker 2: he'll play games, and he'll watch some show, these three things.
- 35:51Speaker 2: One more. One more thing.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Sleep, OK, but that was a no-brainer. You can't include
- 35:56Speaker 2: that as like an activity. You're
- 35:58Speaker 1: absolutely right. See, I'm a simple man.
- 36:05Speaker 2: On that note, someone is walking away with this $100
- 36:10Speaker 2: experience thanks to Cha Mulan.
- 36:12Speaker 1: You know, let's give it to somebody who actually used
- 36:14Speaker 1: one of these things, the Social Development Network where SingPass
- 36:18Speaker 1: was involved as well. Caleb, congratulations.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, success story, you see, it could happen.
- 36:25Speaker 1: For 12 years now. Yeah, they've been
- 36:27Speaker 1: together.
- 36:28Speaker 2: Amazing, excellent stuff. So please enjoy. You can bring your
- 36:31Speaker 2: wifey with you to Cha Mulan and enjoy some really
- 36:34Speaker 2: delicious bubble tea that's a bit different because they're using
- 36:37Speaker 2: some healthy ingredients as well, things that could be good
- 36:40Speaker 2: for your health and beauty and wellness. Alright, please try it.
- 36:44Speaker 2: And uh Joe.
- 36:45Speaker 2: On coming through with some piping hot tea apparently.
- 36:48Speaker 1: The Marvel Cinematic Universe isn't just one guy. It isn't
- 36:52Speaker 1: just Kevin Feige or Robert Downey Jr. It's thousands or
- 36:56Speaker 1: maybe even tens of thousands of people coming together, putting
- 37:00Speaker 1: the skills that they trained and worked for to give
- 37:03Speaker 1: you all the movies that you love. So I think
- 37:06Speaker 1: there's a bit of some hot tea coming in.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Disney and Marvel's, or rather, Disney is the parent company.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Marvel is one of the companies they own now, right?
- 37:15Speaker 1: Bit of beef happening because Disney apparently let a few
- 37:19Speaker 1: Marvel artists go. Oh yeah. And these Marvel artists were
- 37:24Speaker 1: very integral to bringing to life all the Marvel movies
- 37:27Speaker 1: that we've seen so far.
- 37:28Speaker 2: So what was the reason they gave AI?
- 37:33Speaker 1: Long Long story short, they are using AI to do
- 37:36Speaker 1: some of the visual effects now, I think,
- 37:39Speaker 2: yeah,
- 37:39Speaker 1: which is a bit scary. So, of all people, the
- 37:43Speaker 1: actress who plays the wasp, Evangeline
- 37:46Speaker 2: Lily,
- 37:47Speaker 1: I actually
- 37:47Speaker 1: took to the press and social media saying that, hey,
- 37:50Speaker 1: you know what, I'm not happy with this. To all
- 37:52Speaker 1: those who have been let go, I see you. You
- 37:54Speaker 1: guys were the OGs and the important part of Marvel
- 37:57Speaker 1: and the movies that we have.
- 37:59Speaker 2: See, that's the worry, right? I mean, I know that
- 38:02Speaker 2: in general, organizations and governments will always assure us that
- 38:06Speaker 2: AI is not going to replace us, but it's supposed
- 38:09Speaker 2: to improve efficiency. But in situations like that where people
- 38:14Speaker 2: are actually, their jobs are being replaced by AI but
- 38:17Speaker 2: Only one person needs to overlook, for example, what used
- 38:20Speaker 2: to be a team of 10, for example, right?
- 38:22Speaker 1: I'm I'm sure it's the whole thing. Maybe they are
- 38:29Speaker 1: trying to perfect a few AI, whereas maybe 10 years
- 38:33Speaker 1: ago before the use of AI and all these
- 38:35Speaker 1: things.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I meant, yeah,
- 38:38Speaker 1: to the point where now even Hollywood, I think to
- 38:41Speaker 1: be considered for an Academy Award, your film cannot use
- 38:46Speaker 1: AI
- 38:46Speaker 2: utilize AI at
- 38:48Speaker 1: all. Yeah, I think
- 38:49Speaker 2: they're the CGI and all that. I don't
- 38:52Speaker 1: know how
- 38:52Speaker 1: it stands on that one, but they are banning the
- 38:54Speaker 1: use of AI.
- 38:55Speaker 2: To replace the actors and actresses, you think you reckon
- 38:59Speaker 2: because remember not too long ago, there was like a
- 39:01Speaker 2: bit of a strike from the Screen Actors Guild or something.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I don't know if I'm getting it right screenwriters, I
- 39:08Speaker 2: can't recall, but there was some sort of like um
- 39:11Speaker 2: a protest against the use of, of AI. Yeah, so
- 39:15Speaker 2: I forgot which one, but I safe to say, um,
- 39:19Speaker 2: the cool thing about Hollywood, I guess, they can be
- 39:22Speaker 2: very vocal. They can.
- 39:24Speaker 2: And they might even make a change. If
- 39:26Speaker 1: I could boldly say I think this is the start
- 39:30Speaker 1: of many AI related problems and
- 39:32Speaker 1: issues.
- 39:33Speaker 2: Lots, yeah, it's
- 39:34Speaker 2: already begun
- 39:35Speaker 1: as it slowly evolves and it hits and hits its prime.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Yeah, a bit scary if you think about it. But
- 39:42Speaker 2: what a great song to come out of because coming
- 39:44Speaker 2: up in a few minutes, we got some food news,
- 39:47Speaker 2: very unique one as well, because I feel like this hawker.
- 39:52Speaker 2: Is changing the way things are done in the F&B
- 39:55Speaker 2: industry which could benefit him if you think about it.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Now when I ask you, right, what is the one
- 40:01Speaker 2: thing when you go to like a zuta shop or, uh, yeah,
- 40:04Speaker 2: a tuta shop, for example, what's the one thing you're
- 40:07Speaker 2: quite careful about ordering?
- 40:10Speaker 2: Wow, the silence is deafening. Think about it price-wise, price-wise,
- 40:13Speaker 2: what's the one thing you're always careful price-wise?
- 40:17Speaker 1: Oh, price-wise, um, honestly, I only ordered 3 things. Let
- 40:21Speaker 1: me know if it's,
- 40:22Speaker 2: uh,
- 40:23Speaker 1: is it
- 40:23Speaker 2: sweet and sour pork, one of them. OK, that's 4
- 40:25Speaker 1: now. Um, hot plate
- 40:27Speaker 2: tofu, black pepper beef,
- 40:28Speaker 1: correct.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Some vegetable naipai or something kangkong sambaw kangkong and sweet
- 40:33Speaker 2: and sour pork. OK, so you're super basic. Hey, hello.
- 40:37Speaker 2: What do you mean? You only go to all the restaurants.
- 40:39Speaker 2: You only order these. Yeah, OK, anyway, I was going
- 40:44Speaker 2: for the one thing that sometimes we are cautious about
- 40:46Speaker 2: ordering would be live seafood because they have to weigh
- 40:49Speaker 2: it and then the cost might be, the price might
- 40:51Speaker 2: be something that we are not aware of, right, which
- 40:53Speaker 1: I'm the worst person to bring for,
- 40:56Speaker 2: OK, because he doesn't really eat seafood.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Yeah, so just bring Jokim to a basic place the
- 41:01Speaker 2: next time you go on a date
- 41:02Speaker 1: with him. I'm there,
- 41:04Speaker 2: OK.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Uh, I like Yankee too. We've been there before together,
- 41:10Speaker 2: we have, um, coming up in just a few minutes,
- 41:13Speaker 2: find out what this particular hawker is doing.
- 41:16Speaker 2: That's changing the game a little bit. Some food news,
- 41:19Speaker 2: here we go. Happy
- 41:21Speaker 1: 123 food news. Food news. Sonia with the good food news.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Give it to us, Miss
- 41:28Speaker 2: Chuw. So, um, earlier on I said, what is the
- 41:31Speaker 2: one thing sometimes we're a little bit hesitant to order
- 41:33Speaker 2: when we go to a Tuta restaurant, for example, to
- 41:36Speaker 2: which Joakim gave me no good answers because he only
- 41:38Speaker 2: orders like the same four dishes every time. Hey, hello, um.
- 41:43Speaker 1: Good restaurant. The hot plate tofu slaps. OK,
- 41:46Speaker 2: it does, it does, but I encourage you to try
- 41:49Speaker 2: some of their specialties, you know. OK, yeah, try something new.
- 41:55Speaker 2: I mean, change up your palate a bit once in
- 41:57Speaker 2: a while.
- 41:57Speaker 1: But when it
- 41:58Speaker 1: comes to crabs or lobsters or whatsoever, I, I won't
- 42:02Speaker 1: actively order it. If the table orders it, sure, go
- 42:04Speaker 1: for it.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, because Joe has never really been a seafood kind
- 42:07Speaker 2: of person. So yeah, anyway, um.
- 42:10Speaker 2: I guess the one thing that we sometimes are hesitant
- 42:13Speaker 2: about is ordering like live seafood, for example, because they
- 42:15Speaker 2: go by weights, then sometimes by season and the price
- 42:19Speaker 2: keeps changing as well,
- 42:20Speaker 1: tiger prawn. So
- 42:22Speaker 2: you never know
- 42:23Speaker 1: angel crab, is it angel crab or is it
- 42:26Speaker 2: something
- 42:26Speaker 1: crab
- 42:26Speaker 2: I don't think that crab crab Alaskan king crab, that
- 42:31Speaker 2: one angel crab Alaskan king crab angel crab. OK, never mind.
- 42:40Speaker 2: Um, for this particular hawker, he has many interesting points
- 42:44Speaker 2: about him. Firstly, he's a Mandarin speaking Indian hawker, which
- 42:48Speaker 2: I guess some people wonder, Hey, how come you cook
- 42:50Speaker 2: Chinese food? Hey, why you cook Chinese food? Yeah, but
- 42:54Speaker 2: you cannot cook, so never mind. Um, he allows diners
- 42:57Speaker 2: to bring your own seafood to his susa shop, OK,
- 43:02Speaker 2: and prices to cook your seafood only start at $12
- 43:07Speaker 2: which could be changing the game a little bit. I mean.
- 43:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it may go by weight still to a certain extent, but,
- 43:13Speaker 2: you know, the fact that you bring your own seafood, right,
- 43:16Speaker 2: you could have bought it at a much cheaper price
- 43:17Speaker 2: compared to the markup that you experienced at certain sa shops, right?
- 43:21Speaker 2: And um, he's citing incidents where like some people go fishing,
- 43:25Speaker 2: they don't know how to cook the fish or the seafood.
- 43:28Speaker 2: And it's also the preparation of that is very troublesome.
- 43:31Speaker 2: So he said, just come bring it, I'll cook it
- 43:32Speaker 2: for you.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Actually, I'm very sustainable for the next 10 or 15
- 43:36Speaker 1: years as fishing as a
- 43:38Speaker 2: hobby has risen,
- 43:40Speaker 1: right? It is back here in Singapore. Nice to
- 43:42Speaker 2: see. Exactly. So I mean, for a lot of us,
- 43:44Speaker 2: I want to, I want a nice seafood dish, but
- 43:47Speaker 2: the idea of having to like
- 43:49Speaker 2: Kill the crab, for example, I can't do it. Honestly,
- 43:51Speaker 2: I can't do it. But the only way to enjoy
- 43:54Speaker 2: seafood is to have it very fresh. So that's why
- 43:56Speaker 2: most of your grandma, your aunties will encourage you to
- 43:58Speaker 2: kill the crab at home, right? I've never done that
- 44:01Speaker 2: in my life. I don't think I can do it.
- 44:03Speaker 2: I went fishing once in the Maldives for a, a
- 44:06Speaker 2: travel show, and I threw the fish back into the sea.
- 44:09Speaker 2: I mean, because you are allowed to do that, they
- 44:12Speaker 2: will heal, I guess if they're not very injured, so.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Um, please visit him. I think, um, if you've never
- 44:18Speaker 2: actually tried, it's over in the Chinatown area, and I'm
- 44:21Speaker 2: looking at some of the, uh, dishes right now. Absolutely delicious.
- 44:25Speaker 2: I see a like a, a fish, fish head clay
- 44:28Speaker 2: pot sort of situation, curry, curry as well, super good.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Um, it's XH Delicious Seafood located at 39 Temple Street
- 44:36Speaker 2: and it's open daily. Ops till 10:00 p.m. actually quite
- 44:38Speaker 1: late. Beautiful. The only time I had the, uh, seafood
- 44:42Speaker 1: stuff was the crabbiehoon over at Geylang. Uh, Chef Danny,
- 44:47Speaker 1: I forgot the, uh.
- 44:49Speaker 1: It's the Omakase hawker store that everyone talks about.
- 44:52Speaker 2: It's quite polarizing. Um, if you like rabbiehoon, please try Longqi.
- 44:56Speaker 2: I know I haven't brought you there before yet, but, um,
- 44:59Speaker 2: I can only hope that you have a big appetite
- 45:01Speaker 2: for seafood. OK, what did I just
- 45:03Speaker 2: say?
- 45:03Speaker 1: The, uh, Longqi
- 45:06Speaker 2: rabbihoon. Yes, try it. Yes, OK, I'll bring you
- 45:09Speaker 1: the name of the store that I went to was
- 45:10Speaker 1: a Sinhuat. There you go. Sinat Seafood.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Sounds legit. Sounds legit. Anyway, if this got you craving for.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Some tuta or solid crab bihoon or whatever, please satisfy
- 45:19Speaker 2: your craving this week, OK?
- 45:20Speaker 1: Well, we are 6 days away to Mother's Day Sunday.
- 45:24Speaker 2: That's right, 10th of May.
- 45:26Speaker 1: If you are looking forward to buy your bouquet of
- 45:29Speaker 1: flowers and all that, be prepared to pay maybe double
- 45:32Speaker 1: or triple the amount.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, even if you pre-order, I'm sure
- 45:36Speaker 2: they would have already increased the price for you. Why
- 45:39Speaker 2: don't you try something else like make a card for
- 45:41Speaker 2: your mom and paste like pictures of you.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Or a
- 45:44Speaker 1: Lego bouquet of flowers. Yeah,
- 45:46Speaker 2: in that way you will never die. Exactly.
- 45:48Speaker 1: It can be a good mother and family activity. And
- 45:50Speaker 1: also if you're going to your favorite restaurant on Mother's
- 45:53Speaker 1: Day itself, you might want to check and make sure
- 45:56Speaker 1: they still have whatever you love to eat on the
- 45:58Speaker 1: menu because some of these restaurants,
- 46:00Speaker 2: right,
- 46:01Speaker 1: they customize a Mother's Day set.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Yeah, um, what I, what gets me the most frustrated
- 46:06Speaker 2: is Valentine's Day because every restaurant will have like, there
- 46:09Speaker 2: were moments where
- 46:10Speaker 2: We just went just because we wanted to go to
- 46:12Speaker 2: a restaurant and they revealed to us after we sat
- 46:14Speaker 2: down that, oh, OK, it's only this set menu, to
- 46:17Speaker 2: which it can be frustrating, but, um, my family and
- 46:20Speaker 2: I were going to Bala Pranakan food, yeah, we're going
- 46:23Speaker 2: for some Pranakan food on Sunday.
- 46:25Speaker 1: Mama will pile on the sambal, man.
- 46:27Speaker 2: I'm so good. Yeah, honestly, they're very generous with the sambal,
- 46:29Speaker 2: so I'm grateful for that. Is she
- 46:31Speaker 1: gonna wear the kabaya and
- 46:32Speaker 2: stuff? No, no, no, no, no, she's not because it's
- 46:36Speaker 2: very restrictive.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Actually, Kabaya, right, like you really need to be quite slim,
- 46:41Speaker 2: I feel, yeah, to pull it off.
- 46:43Speaker 1: So I just realized it's gonna be a very busy
- 46:46Speaker 1: weekend for you this weekend and next weekend and
- 46:49Speaker 2: next weekend, yeah, I know. If you know, you know
- 46:51Speaker 2: what's happening I don't talk you know, you know, no need,
- 46:54Speaker 2: no need to say anything.
