- 0:58Speaker 1: That's to Rudy, he's gone game.
- 1:04Speaker 2: PCA walks it up in the tent and the Cubs
- 1:10Speaker 2: knock out the Sucks in ten. It began with a homer,
- 1:20Speaker 2: He ended it with a homer. It began with a homer,
- 1:28Speaker 2: It ended with a Homer PC's first career walk off
- 1:33Speaker 2: home run crosstown rival after tough series versus the Cardinals
- 1:38Speaker 2: over the weekend Aaron water Show Weekend, Wrigley was rocking.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Cubs are up early in that game, they go down,
- 1:45Speaker 2: they respond. What a moment at That's like one of
- 1:49Speaker 2: PCA's I feel like gonna be his defining moments. You're
- 1:51Speaker 2: just gonna see forever throughout his career.
- 1:54Speaker 1: You're talking about an MVP moment. I mean, like who
- 1:57Speaker 1: starts and ends a game? Like, no, it's over, that's
- 2:00Speaker 1: in your you know you're controlling the game. Yeah. I
- 2:03Speaker 1: just was in the in there this weekend doing the
- 2:05Speaker 1: Sunday game for ABC and ESPN, and what an amazing
- 2:09Speaker 1: time in there. Right now, Wrigley's rocking. Uh they did
- 2:13Speaker 1: have a series against the Cards, but wow.
- 2:16Speaker 2: I was laying down. I was laying down in bed.
- 2:19Speaker 2: I was watching on my phone because we were going
- 2:20Speaker 2: to sleep, and I see uh him hit that, and
- 2:24Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, and what what are you doing?
- 2:27Speaker 2: Jolted up. I was like, you got your PC ages,
- 2:29Speaker 2: He'll walk off.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Look at this place. I told you I saw him
- 2:32Speaker 1: in the cage. I said, Bro, my favorite bat flip
- 2:35Speaker 1: or my favorite you know Selly right now is like
- 2:38Speaker 1: the bat's too hot, you know when he drops it
- 2:40Speaker 1: in the bath.
- 2:41Speaker 2: That was.
- 2:46Speaker 1: That moment that was sick. You know.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I want to just go back a little bit into
- 2:50Speaker 2: that game and or or even just what happened unfolded
- 2:54Speaker 2: over the weekend, Dansby Swanson going down right and the
- 2:58Speaker 2: oblique injury, and he's been raking since the end of June.
- 3:02Speaker 2: He's been one of their better hitters on the team.
- 3:04Speaker 2: His defense as follows him and Nico up the middle
- 3:07Speaker 2: or as the best in the league, the best him
- 3:08Speaker 2: in the league, and Ego just goes over to shortstop says, yep,
- 3:12Speaker 2: I got it, no worries, I got you Dansby, I
- 3:14Speaker 2: got you boys. Four hits right gets the tying game,
- 3:19Speaker 2: tying hit in time and just watching that, I mean,
- 3:23Speaker 2: I love Nico. I've saw him come up, I've seen
- 3:25Speaker 2: him blossom into the player he is, but just no bigger,
- 3:29Speaker 2: better guy in the moment coming up and even before
- 3:33Speaker 2: that PCA with that bat off Richards, he goes to
- 3:37Speaker 2: two strikes, he's working them away and he just shoots
- 3:39Speaker 2: something to left. He's not trying to do too much.
- 3:42Speaker 2: So watching that and seeing his evolution, he just keeps
- 3:46Speaker 2: getting better every bat. The bat versus the lefty, he
- 3:51Speaker 2: takes the first two pitches, both balls. Then he takes
- 3:54Speaker 2: a strike pretty much right down the middle of the fastball.
- 3:57Speaker 2: And for me watching that, that's just one of my
- 3:59Speaker 2: prouder moments watching him because seeing him take that, I'm
- 4:02Speaker 2: all right, now, he's gauged the fastball. He hasn't seen
- 4:05Speaker 2: this left yet. He's not trying to do too much.
- 4:07Speaker 2: And then the guy throws him somewhat of a hanging
- 4:10Speaker 2: slider and he just absolutely annihilates it.
- 4:14Speaker 1: That comes off Yeah, and that comes offenses is clicking
- 4:18Speaker 1: on all cylinders. Like you said, dancing going down is
- 4:21Speaker 1: a big blow. But Nico fills in and the Cubs
- 4:25Speaker 1: just knowing some stats like they got the eighteen multi
- 4:29Speaker 1: run come from behind wins, you know like that, that's
- 4:32Speaker 1: like fifth in Major League Baseball. These guys they don't
- 4:35Speaker 1: give up, especially.
- 4:36Speaker 2: When I know they're leading the league in walkoffs as well.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:40Speaker 3: So, like they about saying, when you're at home and
- 4:44Speaker 3: that crowds behind you, it gets you a little tighter
- 4:47Speaker 3: when you're on the other side, and those guys.
- 4:50Speaker 1: The focus just takes you up to another level, as
- 4:52Speaker 1: we know. But cool moment they have there.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Frost, you're you're a manager and I text you last
- 4:57Speaker 2: night and I think I can manage right watching games?
- 5:03Speaker 2: Why are you not walking him right there? I don't
- 5:06Speaker 2: care if it's left he's hitting three hundred with a
- 5:10Speaker 2: nine hundred plus ops off lefties to start the inning
- 5:13Speaker 2: and extras. The White Sox don't score. Why why do
- 5:18Speaker 2: managers not decide to just put the first guy it
- 5:20Speaker 2: doesn't even matter who it is. But then PCA comes
- 5:23Speaker 2: up the front runner for MVP, the guy in Chicago guy. Yeah, yeah,
- 5:28Speaker 2: and I know say it hits lefties, well, but you
- 5:30Speaker 2: got to play for the double play ball there the.
- 5:32Speaker 1: Run at first?
- 5:32Speaker 2: Does the runner at first doesn't matter?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean that's the that's the tough calls as
- 5:37Speaker 1: a manager, right, Like you're trying to who was available
- 5:39Speaker 1: in the bullpen for will vena bull and the White Sox.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Maybe they thought their best matchup was the lefty out
- 5:46Speaker 1: of the bullpen that you know, I was watching as well,
- 5:49Speaker 1: but not man to the team, not deep diving, but
- 5:52Speaker 1: it definitely you know, hindsight when you're in that seat
- 5:55Speaker 1: is so some you don't get to to be a
- 5:59Speaker 1: part of. You just got to pull the trigger of
- 6:01Speaker 1: what you do. But I'm with you. It's it's tough
- 6:04Speaker 1: to watch the MVP. Is that show? If that show,
- 6:06Speaker 1: Hey are you Walking? Show? Hey o Tani? And in
- 6:10Speaker 1: that because of the names, a little bit bigger, the
- 6:12Speaker 1: resume is a little bit deeper and longer. I think
- 6:15Speaker 1: you would, you know, I think I think you would,
- 6:18Speaker 1: So you know, you got to ima that I feel like,
- 6:21Speaker 1: but he has earned it this year for sure. In
- 6:23Speaker 1: extra innings, it really doesn't matter unless it's a really big,
- 6:27Speaker 1: low quality hitter and it's the best matchup you have.
- 6:30Speaker 1: In extra innings, you don't score in the top of
- 6:32Speaker 1: the tent as a White Sox and there's a base open,
- 6:36Speaker 1: you play for the double play, baff you get a
- 6:38Speaker 1: ground ball, there's two outs.
- 6:40Speaker 2: You know what I mean? I don't know. I always
- 6:42Speaker 2: the extra inning strategy for all these teams are always different.
- 6:46Speaker 1: It's not even the double play as much like you,
- 6:48Speaker 1: it is the MVP, the front runner, like you said,
- 6:51Speaker 1: in the lineup, the best player, and I think that's too.
- 6:56Speaker 1: What takes it to another level with Pete is he's
- 7:00Speaker 1: leading off, so it feels like when you're on the
- 7:02Speaker 1: other side those best players. I remember managing against Ronald
- 7:04Speaker 1: Acune Junior when he's leading off and one of the
- 7:06Speaker 1: best players in the game. It's like, bro, this guy
- 7:09Speaker 1: just feels like he's getting nine at bats a game
- 7:12Speaker 1: and you're stressed about it. It's tough when I guys
- 7:17Speaker 1: at the top, it just keeps seemed to coming up
- 7:21Speaker 1: and uh and situations. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean, nice night,
- 7:25Speaker 1: nice night for good.
- 7:27Speaker 2: It's so good for the city. The White Sox are good.
- 7:28Speaker 2: What they're doing this year's in credit. What Will Venable
- 7:30Speaker 2: is doing with that team. I love Will Venable. I
- 7:33Speaker 2: played with him when I was a rookie. I played
- 7:34Speaker 2: with him. I love him, I love his family. I'm
- 7:37Speaker 2: so happy for him, and I mean being so ingrained
- 7:42Speaker 2: in Chicago. I actually am rooting for the White Sox
- 7:44Speaker 2: because their story is so similar to ours years ago.
- 7:47Speaker 1: So what a great Let's let's announce it now. We
- 7:51Speaker 1: will be in Chicago for the Crosstown World Series. If
- 7:55Speaker 1: it happens, gotta be white, let's go.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Let's go well with that. That takes us into another
- 8:03Speaker 2: episode of Ross and Rizzo Unfiltered, where we talked about
- 8:08Speaker 2: weekly about what's going on in baseball. The PCA moment
- 8:12Speaker 2: was such a hot take. Let's just get it right
- 8:15Speaker 2: into it. You just said it too, ros See leading off.
- 8:19Speaker 2: This has been a topic that has been forever. You
- 8:22Speaker 2: want your best players the front of the lineup, right,
- 8:25Speaker 2: And I used to field the Dreams game and Kyle
- 8:27Speaker 2: Schwarber hits a lead off home run. Right, is that
- 8:31Speaker 2: there's no such thing as a wasted home run. But
- 8:34Speaker 2: don't you want your guys hitting home runs with guys
- 8:37Speaker 2: on base? If it's one nothing in a game and
- 8:40Speaker 2: you're the opposing team, all right, that's fine, it's one nothing.
- 8:43Speaker 2: But if Shober comes up with two or three guys
- 8:46Speaker 2: on and it's three nothing or four, that's a dagger
- 8:48Speaker 2: out of the gate. A leadoff homer is not a
- 8:51Speaker 2: dagger out of the gate. PCA had a lead off
- 8:52Speaker 2: homer yesterday. Is like the debate on hitting your guys leadoff.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't love it. I may be
- 9:00Speaker 2: a little old school in this. I know you manage
- 9:02Speaker 2: your your new schooler in it.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Well, it's how you're, it's how you're. I love your
- 9:07Speaker 1: segue you're so freaking media savvy already. Bro. First you're
- 9:10Speaker 1: doing it. You're locked in. Just segue from leadoff to
- 9:13Speaker 1: the off. First of all, we'll get to the field
- 9:16Speaker 1: of dreams. But uh, going to my manager brain and
- 9:19Speaker 1: talking about you know, being able to lead off your
- 9:25Speaker 1: best player, you know, when you got them one and two,
- 9:27Speaker 1: I think that's what it is. It's that it's for
- 9:29Speaker 1: this last of bat, you know.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It's I had this argument with Joe Matten all the time, right,
- 9:37Speaker 2: and I said, Joe if and even Boonie or or
- 9:41Speaker 2: anyone I talked to about this. If you're relying on
- 9:45Speaker 2: your last at bat to win games, you're not a
- 9:47Speaker 2: good baseball team. You need to win the games early, right,
- 9:51Speaker 2: and then you bury them. And I understand there's games
- 9:54Speaker 2: like this where you want your best players coming up,
- 9:56Speaker 2: but the majority of the season you win these games.
- 9:59Speaker 2: If you're relying on beating the back end of a
- 10:01Speaker 2: bullpen bullpen every game and you need your best player
- 10:04Speaker 2: to come up in the eighth or ninth to win
- 10:06Speaker 2: the game, that's you're you're not in a good spot.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Well, here's what I would say to that is like,
- 10:11Speaker 1: wait till you start coaching junior, and you're like, why
- 10:15Speaker 1: is my son he's the best player, he's not hitting
- 10:18Speaker 1: at the top of the lineup. I want him to
- 10:20Speaker 1: get as most as many at bass, the most of
- 10:22Speaker 1: the bass he can get in this game, because it
- 10:25Speaker 1: impacts the game. Like that's how you think as a manager.
- 10:27Speaker 1: It's like, I want this dude just as many times
- 10:30Speaker 1: getting to the plate, And it's all about how your
- 10:33Speaker 1: roster is shaped and how many guys you have behind him,
- 10:36Speaker 1: Like you got to have some depth. You're not very good.
- 10:38Speaker 1: You're just getting you know when I managed, you know,
- 10:41Speaker 1: not having an MVP type caliber guy. After you guys left,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you start to find out, like who is setting the toe?
- 10:48Speaker 1: I like, I like Nico hitting the top because of
- 10:51Speaker 1: setting the tone in his contact, Like I love his
- 10:54Speaker 1: contact and Shover was a little bit different with the
- 10:57Speaker 1: on base, you know, I think like that's the other
- 10:59Speaker 1: part of the top, and I like speed at the
- 11:02Speaker 1: top of a little old school like that. But Pete
- 11:04Speaker 1: brings all those factors and he's got power, he's got speed,
- 11:08Speaker 1: he's immediate trouble h Schwolber and and Pete to me
- 11:12Speaker 1: are a little bit different in that way.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Totally totally.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a pure slugger where Pete is like he
- 11:18Speaker 1: lead off, yeah, he gets on.
- 11:19Speaker 2: And he's walking now too, man, Yes, yeapressive.
- 11:23Speaker 1: His numbers are crazy, like not chasing, just being there,
- 11:27Speaker 1: like the biggest turnaround and chase rate, swinging that first
- 11:30Speaker 1: pitch and there was walk rate, like you know, that's
- 11:33Speaker 1: when to me, that's when the tables turn a little bit.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But I don't I don't think.
- 11:40Speaker 2: I don't think viewers at home understand the adjustments that
- 11:43Speaker 2: Pete has made. I mean, he understood that he was
- 11:47Speaker 2: swinging at a wild rate out of his zone. Two strikes,
- 11:51Speaker 2: just throwing something anywhere and he'll swing. And he understood
- 11:55Speaker 2: that and he started not swinging more and now hitting better.
- 11:59Speaker 2: It's in and he's walking more. He's really bought into
- 12:02Speaker 2: taking pitches and see more pitches and getting into the bat.
- 12:06Speaker 2: It's a very old school approach. It looks like in
- 12:08Speaker 2: the new school era, and I absolutely love it.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Man well, and I think the game changer to me
- 12:14Speaker 1: of guys that really mature as players now a little
- 12:19Speaker 1: bit different than when I was coming up, is taking
- 12:22Speaker 1: a step back and watching the guys that really control
- 12:25Speaker 1: the strike zone and make you throw it in the zone.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Now with all all the stuff you have and the
- 12:29Speaker 1: kind of the lack of command and more of just
- 12:32Speaker 1: stuff that's in the zone or in and out of
- 12:34Speaker 1: the zone, is the game changer right now to me.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And that's I think that's what's taking Pete to the
- 12:38Speaker 1: next level.
- 12:39Speaker 2: The Cubbies are rolling. Man, they they're rolling. I can't
- 12:43Speaker 2: say it enough. Man Jet brings in all those pieces.
- 12:45Speaker 2: It sparks the team. I mean, they may have the
- 12:49Speaker 2: best depth. They may they have right now.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Numbers wise, they have the best bench in the history
- 12:56Speaker 1: of the Cubs organization as far as numbers. That's to me,
- 13:00Speaker 1: that's been the difference maker. Obviously the Bregman pc A
- 13:03Speaker 1: becoming the m v P.
- 13:04Speaker 2: But doing which we would right the team, it's just
- 13:09Speaker 2: the lineup is construction constructed so nicely. In my opinion,
- 13:14Speaker 2: they're there. They can beat you in a their dynamic.
- 13:17Speaker 2: They could beat you in a lot of different ways.
- 13:19Speaker 2: It's not all about the long ball.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I need to I need to. I need to go
- 13:23Speaker 1: back because I got to watch again. Like your media
- 13:26Speaker 1: presence is so much fun for me, Bro, and how
- 13:29Speaker 1: good you are at it. It's the field of dreams
- 13:32Speaker 1: had to be epic and wear it on TV. Tell
- 13:37Speaker 1: me if you're I want to hear about you being
- 13:40Speaker 1: able to be on the other side of it from
- 13:42Speaker 1: a media standpoint and painting this picture and talking through
- 13:46Speaker 1: these Hall of famers coming out in the venue, like
- 13:49Speaker 1: walk me through that. That had to be amazing.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Well, first off, I'm excited to go. You know, as
- 13:54Speaker 2: a players, you fly in and that excitement doesn't really
- 13:57Speaker 2: happen until you get there and you see it right
- 13:59Speaker 2: doing a little game ROSSI you did the field, the
- 14:02Speaker 2: dream being managing.
- 14:04Speaker 1: And then classic I was a part of the lot with.
- 14:08Speaker 2: So But for me being there, first off, I'm with
- 14:12Speaker 2: Barry Bonds and Albert Pouhols and El Duncan is amazing
- 14:16Speaker 2: at leading us. She's taught me so much from just
- 14:19Speaker 2: leading the panel and the Netflix crew. You roll in
- 14:23Speaker 2: there and it's it's you see the whole movie set.
- 14:27Speaker 2: You're literally in the middle of a cornfield. Our set
- 14:30Speaker 2: was in left field in literally in the middle of
- 14:32Speaker 2: corn right, So just seeing the hole, what Major League
- 14:36Speaker 2: Baseball did with that stadium, the permanent structures now it's
- 14:40Speaker 2: at and then literally goosebumps and chill seeing Schworeber announce
- 14:45Speaker 2: all the Hall of Famers and seeing them walk out
- 14:47Speaker 2: of the ivy was just it was scripted.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I it was.
- 14:51Speaker 2: It was literally I said it on there. It was
- 14:53Speaker 2: a cinema. It was literally a movie.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Yeah. It's a special place. And I feel like, you know,
- 14:59Speaker 1: watching the after like the cliffs at dirt and dad jokes. Bro,
- 15:06Speaker 1: those were those were Is that your idea? Those are great?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Netflix does a good job, but like making it a
- 15:12Speaker 1: show entertainment more than just like all this baseball facts.
- 15:17Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, with you, here we go.
- 15:21Speaker 2: What do you call a single kernel of corn? I
- 15:25Speaker 2: don't know?
- 15:26Speaker 1: A unicorn?
- 15:27Speaker 2: And tonight that's what you were mister. So here is
- 15:34Speaker 2: a Netflix special hot dog some Iowa's famous corn. Do
- 15:38Speaker 2: you know what we call that?
- 15:40Speaker 1: What do we call this? A corn dog? We gotta
- 15:45Speaker 1: get some dag. It's a dad joke segment on here
- 15:48Speaker 1: for you, bro. That's right up your alley. That's that's uh.
- 15:51Speaker 1: It reminds me of your dad and being around him. Yeah.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Man, those I'm telling you, Bro, those postgame interviews are
- 15:57Speaker 2: not easy, and they had asked afterwards to present Netflix.
- 16:02Speaker 2: They do the letterman jacket for the MVP of the game,
- 16:06Speaker 2: and then with the specialty game, the corn and the
- 16:08Speaker 2: hot Dog. So Laurence Shahati and I were talking before
- 16:12Speaker 2: and how we want to kind of do it because
- 16:14Speaker 2: she was asking the questions and I was going to
- 16:16Speaker 2: come in and I was like, man, what about some
- 16:19Speaker 2: dad like corny dad jokes, right? And we look them
- 16:22Speaker 2: up and yeah, I mean the Unicorn one. It couldn't
- 16:27Speaker 2: have been literally, like I said, cinema movie, it couldn't
- 16:30Speaker 2: have been scripted any better. Where a dear friend, a
- 16:33Speaker 2: close friend of you and I friend of the program,
- 16:38Speaker 2: Kyle schober Winds, the MVP hits two home runs, so
- 16:40Speaker 2: it's a lot easier to be corny with him than
- 16:42Speaker 2: someone you don't really know. But yeah, man, that.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Was that was cool. Well let's talk about We've got
- 16:48Speaker 1: another huge moment in Major League Baseball in Chicago. Joshua
- 16:54Speaker 1: Biez three home runs to start his career. Are you
- 16:57Speaker 1: kidding me? How about that?
- 16:59Speaker 2: I see I see the headline Bias hits three home
- 17:02Speaker 2: runs in Chicago, and I'm like, ooh, Hobby's back right,
- 17:06Speaker 2: And obviously it's on the wrong end, but man, bro
- 17:10Speaker 2: major league debut. Kids grind it in the minor leagues too.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Twenty five, he's still relatively young. But how how cool
- 17:19Speaker 2: was that when he did get out You saw Cubs
- 17:24Speaker 2: fans and Cardinals fans coming together, which you don't see
- 17:27Speaker 2: very often, giving him a round of applause and just
- 17:30Speaker 2: respecting greatness in what they saw.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, that's the one thing I really do feel
- 17:35Speaker 1: like you know, most fans, but especially in Chicago, being
- 17:40Speaker 1: around that city for a long time, they love good baseball,
- 17:43Speaker 1: they love good stories. And when you see this young
- 17:47Speaker 1: man first one, first of all, balls up out over maybe.
- 17:50Speaker 2: A little, I mean these are good. I mean yeah, ok, the.
- 17:54Speaker 1: First one, and then pulling the change up and then
- 17:57Speaker 1: you're like, oh, yeah, last, I'm gonna go Avo Taco,
- 18:00Speaker 1: Like what what's going on right now? The place was rocking,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and he had like thirty family friends and family in town.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Like it was. It was a special special moment in
- 18:10Speaker 1: that place. And we called the game the next day
- 18:12Speaker 1: and he went over. But it was, uh, we were
- 18:15Speaker 1: talking about he's got a lot of swing and miss
- 18:17Speaker 1: in his game in the minor leagues and doesn't walk
- 18:19Speaker 1: a whole lot. So that's one of those things. As
- 18:21Speaker 1: he's mature, he's going to have to learn to kind
- 18:24Speaker 1: of take a take a page out of PCA's book
- 18:28Speaker 1: and control the strike song. Learning a little bit. The
- 18:30Speaker 1: juices are flowing early in your career, but make the
- 18:33Speaker 1: adjustments when the league starts to make his adjustments. But man,
- 18:36Speaker 1: what a great story. That was fun and so so Uh.
- 18:40Speaker 2: There's nothing better than Yeah, there's nothing better than special
- 18:43Speaker 2: things happening at Wrigley Field, right, three home run walk off.
- 18:47Speaker 2: It's just that, it's it's just it's storybook there. It's
- 18:52Speaker 2: it's it's the romanticism of how can you say baseball
- 18:55Speaker 2: is a romantic partner.
- 18:57Speaker 1: That's right, That's right. And Bro, I mean that's history,
- 18:59Speaker 1: like the fact that he did something that's never been
- 19:01Speaker 1: done to me. Crazy, Yeah, in regular I mean at
- 19:05Speaker 1: regular flying over Yeah, oh yeah, it was loud.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Bro was a little dicey, but that's it was a
- 19:13Speaker 2: little cloudy.
- 19:14Speaker 1: But it's not your typical August day, but it was.
- 19:17Speaker 1: It was nice. Speaking of three home runs, you hit
- 19:20Speaker 1: three home runs once in your career for the Junks,
- 19:25Speaker 1: the New York Chunk Is, how was that? Why? Like,
- 19:27Speaker 1: I mean I've hit two not just not about me,
- 19:30Speaker 1: but I hit I've hit two a couple of times,
- 19:33Speaker 1: but three.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Is like, Bro, three is did you have a chance
- 19:37Speaker 2: to hit four? No? I hit my third in my
- 19:40Speaker 2: last Well, yeah, you did the hard way. You always
- 19:43Speaker 2: have a chance to hit four of us when you
- 19:45Speaker 2: get four at bats. I know you didn't always get
- 19:46Speaker 2: four at bats.
- 19:48Speaker 1: For my ass shipped for my but especially for my bro.
- 19:53Speaker 2: My last at bat at Yankee Stadium, I pulled the
- 19:58Speaker 2: ball foul and it was down the line, foul the
- 20:01Speaker 2: whole way. And it was against the Orioles, right and
- 20:02Speaker 2: Hyder Brandon Hyde is the manager, and I'm just standing
- 20:07Speaker 2: in the batter's like, oh, that's foul. And then all
- 20:09Speaker 2: of a sudden it starts pushing back and I'm not kidding.
- 20:13Speaker 2: It pushed back so late. At the last second I
- 20:16Speaker 2: even run and if you see me, I'm like, oh
- 20:18Speaker 2: my god, that's a home run. It was like it
- 20:21Speaker 2: was those three home runs were the Yankee Stadium specialty
- 20:26Speaker 2: of home runs for lefties. Like they just got over
- 20:29Speaker 2: and I was, I was three home runs in a game.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I have the jersey in my office back at home
- 20:35Speaker 2: in Florida. I mean, I'll take it any way.
- 20:38Speaker 1: You can sick well actually, let's let's let me interject
- 20:44Speaker 1: and get off script for a minute. I had Yankee
- 20:46Speaker 1: Seattle and said something absolutely stupid on TV where we
- 20:51Speaker 1: had been talking about how short, what a great homer
- 20:55Speaker 1: field Yankee Stadium was, and uh, you know, when you're
- 20:58Speaker 1: on air and calling game, sometimes you're just kind of
- 21:00Speaker 1: rolling and you say stuff that that. Like afterwards, you're
- 21:03Speaker 1: kind of like, what what Why did I just say that? Yeah? Idiot?
- 21:07Speaker 1: What an idiot? And uh, Julio rod Regal, we talk
- 21:10Speaker 1: about how short boards wasn't right, and he crushed the
- 21:13Speaker 1: ball to right for a home run, and I come
- 21:15Speaker 1: out and say, probably not a home run in many parts.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And then everybody blasted me on social media, going, it's
- 21:23Speaker 1: twenty eight out of thirty, you idiot. Some guy called
- 21:26Speaker 1: me a fucking moron, and D's like, I love you too, bro,
- 21:31Speaker 1: love you so many angry people.
- 21:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's all right.
- 21:34Speaker 1: It was it was, it was it.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Anytime a ball goes out the right field the Yankee Stadium,
- 21:39Speaker 2: it's the easy uh cheap right, yeah yeah right, But
- 21:44Speaker 2: no one knowing, none of these pitchers or none of
- 21:46Speaker 2: these commentators say those balls a left center, dead center.
- 21:49Speaker 2: That aren't going out. Uh, they don't say anything about
- 21:52Speaker 2: how big it is out there, so it's just the
- 21:54Speaker 2: easy short ports are right.
- 21:56Speaker 1: We might have to get like some kind of sponsor
- 21:58Speaker 1: for like dumb things ross he says on air, too
- 22:02Speaker 1: pretty good. Yeah, we we got to try to catch each.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Shout out to Jason Bennetti. He covers for me hard. Yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 2: he's the best.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Great, that's great.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Need So, I know we got off to talking about
- 22:16Speaker 2: good moments with pc A Baiez hitting the three home runs,
- 22:21Speaker 2: but kind of a downer moment is theirs on the Diamondbacks.
- 22:26Speaker 2: And I know we have the tape of Tory Leavello
- 22:28Speaker 2: postgame interview putting Kettle Marte on the restricted list.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Let's take a listen. You seem a little emotional. Are
- 22:37Speaker 1: you worried?
- 22:38Speaker 4: No, not really. I just love him and I care
- 22:41Speaker 4: for him. Be okay, he is fine, Fine, he is fine.
- 22:49Speaker 4: I want you guys to know that I just careful.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Does everybody in that room?
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, tough situation there, especially with the Diamondbacks.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Such a talented player. You know you worry about. We
- 23:01Speaker 1: hope everything's okay with the family and all that stuff.
- 23:04Speaker 1: It's it's scary moments because it is your family. And
- 23:07Speaker 1: I know Tori well. He was our bench coach in
- 23:09Speaker 1: Boston we won in twenty thirteen, and he's so connected
- 23:13Speaker 1: to his players and it really pours into those guys
- 23:16Speaker 1: and you can really tell from that video and real concern.
- 23:19Speaker 1: So you know, sending love and prayers to Marte and
- 23:24Speaker 1: his family and it's tough, man. We you The one
- 23:29Speaker 1: thing you know about being a manager that you don't
- 23:33Speaker 1: know as a player or that I know, is like
- 23:35Speaker 1: there's a lot of stuff that comes in your office
- 23:37Speaker 1: or that happens with guys on a personal level that
- 23:40Speaker 1: doesn't get out the media, and there's always something going on.
- 23:43Speaker 1: It feels like in somebody's world that you're kind of
- 23:47Speaker 1: trying to help them through.
- 23:48Speaker 2: It's almost everyone has that's right, that's right, And you
- 23:52Speaker 2: feel like a dad figure a little bit, even though
- 23:55Speaker 2: it's a big leagues you know, you feel like a
- 23:56Speaker 2: little bit of a father, father figure and trying to
- 23:58Speaker 2: relate to moments and stuff in that seat.
- 24:01Speaker 1: So again, you know, thinking about them, and he's such
- 24:05Speaker 1: a great player.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Man.
- 24:06Speaker 1: I hope, I hope he's not out long because the
- 24:07Speaker 1: Diamondbacks are rolling and been fun here down the you know,
- 24:12Speaker 1: getting his second half, you know, playing really good baseball
- 24:15Speaker 1: and right there in the mix.
- 24:16Speaker 2: No doubt could tell we're thinking of you. We hope
- 24:18Speaker 2: you're doing well, whatever you're dealing with. On the personal matter.
- 24:24Speaker 2: The game is better when you're playing it, that's for sure.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Aw To uh, stay in the West, Stay in the West.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Probably Dodgers.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the kind of imploding a little bit ROSSI.
- 24:39Speaker 1: It's so funny. You know what, if it wasn't for
- 24:44Speaker 1: their history of like having just a little bit of
- 24:47Speaker 1: slow playing some things and staying consistent, I would be
- 24:51Speaker 1: I think the thing, as you know, you worry about
- 24:56Speaker 1: is like with guys out and guys not performing, you know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: especially when you talk about Diaz bowing three out of
- 25:03Speaker 1: his last five saves, uh in a in a short
- 25:07Speaker 1: span ten game span like that worries me. And they've
- 25:11Speaker 1: got a lot of guys injured. And I know Dave
- 25:14Speaker 1: and he'll he'll get some more, you know, if Glass
- 25:16Speaker 1: now comes back and getting some of these guys, they'll
- 25:18Speaker 1: move some guys around and be able to add to
- 25:20Speaker 1: that bullpen. But I'm a little concerned. You know, you
- 25:23Speaker 1: want to play good in the second half and get
- 25:25Speaker 1: that momentum if they're in a short series, which they
- 25:28Speaker 1: would be right now, it's a little scary. Anybody can
- 25:31Speaker 1: win a three game set in that wild card.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Anyone who win a three game set, any anyone there there.
- 25:38Speaker 2: I love what Dave Roberts said, He goes, I hope
- 25:40Speaker 2: these games don't come back to bite us in potential
- 25:43Speaker 2: tiebreaker where they don't get a first round five with
- 25:45Speaker 2: the Brewers. But again, Rossie, they're they're battle tested. It's yeah,
- 25:51Speaker 2: August eighteenth. They are in the dog days, right and
- 25:55Speaker 2: they're pros. They're grind and there there there grind is
- 25:58Speaker 2: their own grind. But that I don't think they can
- 26:01Speaker 2: they'll ever admit that. It's the light at the end
- 26:04Speaker 2: of the tunnel, isn't there? For they have a seven,
- 26:07Speaker 2: eight game lead in the West, right, so, and they
- 26:10Speaker 2: had a tough schedule. I'm not worried about him because look,
- 26:14Speaker 2: three game series, Okay, you're gonna get scooball Yamamoto. Yeah,
- 26:19Speaker 2: and a version of nasty, now you know what I mean.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Snell was nasty last time out with you know,
- 26:27Speaker 1: six innings and they had thirteen punches or something crazy
- 26:30Speaker 1: like he Yeah, with all that time off and he
- 26:33Speaker 1: you know, you always worried about his command. He was
- 26:36Speaker 1: locked in. Yeah, his first.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Two I was looking their their schedule, the remaining They
- 26:44Speaker 2: have thirty six games left. Twenty four out of those
- 26:46Speaker 2: thirty six or under five hundred teams, So that's a
- 26:50Speaker 2: perfect formula for them to get some confidence rolling, get
- 26:54Speaker 2: some guys in place, and go into the postseason. Whether
- 26:57Speaker 2: it's a three game series, whether it's a five game
- 27:00Speaker 2: series or a seven game series. They don't care. They're
- 27:02Speaker 2: the best team ever. They know everyone needs to beat them.
- 27:04Speaker 2: They are the dragon that everyone's trying to slay. So
- 27:08Speaker 2: I worried until they lose a series and then we
- 27:12Speaker 2: can talk about that.
- 27:13Speaker 1: But they are the clear front runners. They's funny how
- 27:16Speaker 1: we are talking about the postseason so early now with
- 27:21Speaker 1: this new playoff format and all these thro in the mix.
- 27:24Speaker 2: Dude, it's not crazy. It's so good for if you're
- 27:28Speaker 2: a fan right now. And I just did the for
- 27:31Speaker 2: NBC on Sunday Night Baseball. We just had the Mariners Astros.
- 27:36Speaker 2: The Mariners are under five hundred. The Astros are grinding
- 27:39Speaker 2: at the top of the Al West, and they're both
- 27:41Speaker 2: in it. Realistically, They're in it. The Rangers are in it.
- 27:45Speaker 2: If you're a fan of the game, I think it's
- 27:47Speaker 2: easy to be like, our team is struggling this but
- 27:50Speaker 2: you have a legit opportunity in August going into September
- 27:55Speaker 2: for meaningful baseball games. And what more can you ask
- 27:57Speaker 2: for as a fan?
- 27:59Speaker 1: Right?
- 27:59Speaker 2: I mean coming from a starved Dolphins fan, I know
- 28:04Speaker 2: I'm off topic with football.
- 28:06Speaker 1: All I want somebody around the corner babies.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Right, And this is just a side note. The over
- 28:11Speaker 2: under for the Dolphins wins this year is four and
- 28:13Speaker 2: a half and I'm like, God, how put Like this
- 28:16Speaker 2: is my reality of life. I'm thirty seven years old
- 28:18Speaker 2: and I don't think I've ever seen a good football team.
- 28:21Speaker 2: So as a fan of baseball, just please enjoy it.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Please.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Really, your team's gonna be in the shooting for the playoffs. Yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 2: I think it's great for baseball.
- 28:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been good. Staying on the negative train. We
- 28:34Speaker 1: talked a little of the Dodgers' bullpen and the negative
- 28:36Speaker 1: te stay on the negative train like ju ju.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Negative trains get clicks.
- 28:43Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I like staying positive, but you know, we
- 28:46Speaker 1: gotta throw there.
- 28:48Speaker 2: We stay positive on the negative.
- 28:50Speaker 1: I had Paul Skians in Milwaukee last week or a
- 28:54Speaker 1: week and a half ago. I guess now, uh, since
- 28:57Speaker 1: we did right before we did our first podcast, and man,
- 29:00Speaker 1: he doesn't look right. And there's been so much brought
- 29:05Speaker 1: up about velocity. It's down over a mile an hour
- 29:07Speaker 1: pretty consistently. Haven't been a you know, they had some
- 29:10Speaker 1: numbers where pitches over ninety seven the last three years
- 29:14Speaker 1: and just continues to tick down. But I know how
- 29:18Speaker 1: what a work course he is being around him during
- 29:21Speaker 1: the WBC. But it doesn't look as much of arm fatigue,
- 29:26Speaker 1: I guess as it does like the command issues the
- 29:30Speaker 1: ball is that the armside misses. Me and Adam Alavino
- 29:34Speaker 1: were talking and when he was explaining, when you want
- 29:37Speaker 1: to create more velocity, you've got to really rotate and
- 29:41Speaker 1: ride that rotation as long as you can and let
- 29:44Speaker 1: that arm come through late. And it looks like he's
- 29:48Speaker 1: trying to generate a little bit of that, probably some
- 29:50Speaker 1: of the velocity in his in his back of his mind.
- 29:54Speaker 1: But the arm side misses and the pulls to the
- 29:57Speaker 1: into the lefties.
- 29:58Speaker 2: That mean he's a probably not getting his eggs.
- 30:00Speaker 1: You think, yeah, well, it just looks like he is
- 30:03Speaker 1: what I think it is. I think it's mechanics. Yeah,
- 30:05Speaker 1: it was kind of what I was getting at.
- 30:06Speaker 2: When you're mechanically off, it's just as a hitter, I know.
- 30:10Speaker 2: It's could be the smallest little adjustment, you know, Rossie,
- 30:13Speaker 2: and you're talking to pictures when they're mechanically off, they
- 30:16Speaker 2: could be thinking about a little bit more. His work
- 30:19Speaker 2: ethic is definitely not, definitely not the issue.
- 30:22Speaker 1: You know what I mean. I mean, you.
- 30:26Speaker 2: For me, as long as it's not an injury, which
- 30:28Speaker 2: I don't think it is. But they they just push
- 30:31Speaker 2: his start back, So it could be a little bit
- 30:34Speaker 2: of fatigue. And if you're fatigued and you're tired and
- 30:37Speaker 2: your body's tired, then mechanically you cannot be fully in
- 30:41Speaker 2: your legs or whatnot.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I think the test is going
- 30:43Speaker 1: to be. I think the test is going to be
- 30:45Speaker 1: they're giving him a a they're skipping a start or
- 30:48Speaker 1: giving him one, you know, like a reset and kind
- 30:53Speaker 1: of restarting him. This is his next start off of
- 30:55Speaker 1: this reset will be a nice indication of what we
- 30:58Speaker 1: can expect maybe moving forward or down the stretch for him.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yeah, well, his his splitter isn't up to what it is.
- 31:05Speaker 2: I mean, his splitter is getting hit. And when you
- 31:08Speaker 2: throw ninety seven ninety six to one hundred and you
- 31:12Speaker 2: have that nasty splitter, what do you call it?
- 31:14Speaker 1: Like the splint blink?
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yeah, And if that's not the truth threat, and it
- 31:21Speaker 2: hasn't been all season, then guys are game planning for
- 31:26Speaker 2: different It's a different game plan. Now, you don't if
- 31:28Speaker 2: you don't have to respect that split, that's just going
- 31:30Speaker 2: to drop off the zone. You could stay on the
- 31:32Speaker 2: heater or better, you don't have to worry about looking
- 31:33Speaker 2: like a fool on the change up and then you
- 31:35Speaker 2: see the slider, sweeper, curveball pop. It's taken this long
- 31:40Speaker 2: for the league to maybe get a book on him. Maybe,
- 31:43Speaker 2: but you're gonna see every pitcher goes through a little
- 31:46Speaker 2: bit of a lull, especially the great ones. He will
- 31:49Speaker 2: bounce back as long as he's healthy. And if he's
- 31:51Speaker 2: not healthy, I hope you know the Pirates have enough
- 31:57Speaker 2: to shut him down and make sure he's healthy for
- 32:00Speaker 2: next year because it doesn't look like they're going to
- 32:01Speaker 2: make the playoffs.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Yeah, they scuffle.
- 32:03Speaker 2: The league needs a healthy pulse.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Losing some guys to injury, they scuffle.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Yeah, if they don't get if they don't get hot.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah for sure. Well,
- 32:12Speaker 1: and you know, going back just to finish the thought.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I know this is the new school. People may crush
- 32:18Speaker 1: me on this, but fastball command is everything for me.
- 32:21Speaker 1: And when you're throwing out even if it is ninety
- 32:24Speaker 1: six ninety seven down from his normal ninety nine, I
- 32:26Speaker 1: was looking at some numbers. In twenty four, he had
- 32:29Speaker 1: a four hundred and four pitches oh ninety or above,
- 32:33Speaker 1: ninety nine or above excuse me. Twenty five went down
- 32:36Speaker 1: to two twenty three this year. In twenty six, he's
- 32:38Speaker 1: only throwing three balls ninety nine plus. So but even
- 32:42Speaker 1: if you're spot in that and guy has the command
- 32:46Speaker 1: that he typically has, I think that sets up everything else.
- 32:51Speaker 1: And like the splinker and the sweeper and the slider,
- 32:54Speaker 1: you know, he's able to command the ball a little
- 32:56Speaker 1: bit more and hitters got to commit to that. So
- 32:58Speaker 1: that's how I thought as a catcher's.
- 33:00Speaker 2: He's a great person. He's he's got this, he's got
- 33:05Speaker 2: it all going from. He's a hard worker, he's very respectful,
- 33:08Speaker 2: he's got Livy Dunn's celebrity girlfriend. Just I hope he's healthy.
- 33:12Speaker 2: Like everything I feel like is good vibes with Paul
- 33:16Speaker 2: and pitching for Team USA. So hopefully it's just a
- 33:20Speaker 2: little hiccup in his UH season and hopefully finishes the
- 33:23Speaker 2: season strong. Hopefully he's healthy, and hopefully his mechanics get
- 33:26Speaker 2: back in because I I love seeing him pitch. Speaking
- 33:30Speaker 2: of good vibes, I like it. This past weekend one
- 33:34Speaker 2: of my Yeah this is pint.
- 33:35Speaker 1: We had the negative train and positive town.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Yeah this is this is all positive for my my
- 33:41Speaker 2: after field of dreams. Okay, get on a show bird
- 33:46Speaker 2: right from my bad Yeah, me and Albert Poohle's ever
- 33:51Speaker 2: heard of him? He's seven to three home runs.
- 33:53Speaker 1: He's just dropping all the names today.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Okay, we fly down to Florida and it's hot right
- 34:02Speaker 2: celebrating my friend friend's fortieth birthday. Down in Florida. We
- 34:06Speaker 2: played golf all weekend. Getting to something here. Okay, great weekend.
- 34:11Speaker 2: Play two rounds on set Friday, or play eighteen on Friday,
- 34:18Speaker 2: an emergency scramble nine on Friday. It was ten of us,
- 34:23Speaker 2: so it was an absolute zoo. Where I'm going with
- 34:26Speaker 2: this is the coronas were flying. I mean all the
- 34:31Speaker 2: boys were pounding Coronas. It was a vibe on the
- 34:34Speaker 2: golf course. We were enjoying ourselves. It was awesome. We
- 34:38Speaker 2: went to the elbow room later that night. I mean
- 34:40Speaker 2: it was It was a great weekend celebrating my friend's fortieth.
- 34:43Speaker 2: All my boys from Louisiana were in town. Shout LSU.
- 34:47Speaker 2: Hopefully Lane Kiffin gets them going this year. Football right
- 34:50Speaker 2: around the corner, but brings us to our.
- 34:52Speaker 1: So does that? Is that a segment to the Player
- 34:57Speaker 1: of the Week Plaia of the week? Okay, okay, our
- 35:01Speaker 1: plia of.
- 35:01Speaker 2: The week, Let's go back to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Is
- 35:04Speaker 2: Corbyn Carrol from the Diamondbacks NL player of the Week
- 35:09Speaker 2: nine for twenty two with three doubles, two triples, two
- 35:12Speaker 2: home runs and one bag. He leads MLBU with triples
- 35:16Speaker 2: fifteen of them. I feel like he has one hundred
- 35:20Speaker 2: and fifty triples already in his career.
- 35:21Speaker 1: He's only been in the league for four.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Or five years.
- 35:23Speaker 1: It's crazy. He burst on the scene too.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Has he been underrated in Arizona where someone maybe listened
- 35:32Speaker 2: to this show, isn't as familiar with Corbyn.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Carrol man, I you know, is he underrated? I don't.
- 35:37Speaker 1: He came in like one of the top picks in
- 35:40Speaker 1: the draft, had a gun's blazed on blaze. I think
- 35:43Speaker 1: twenty two he got like one hundred at bats and
- 35:46Speaker 1: and you know, over an eight hundred ops and then
- 35:49Speaker 1: the breakout season twenty three he was a monster and
- 35:52Speaker 1: had a little bit of a down year in twenty
- 35:54Speaker 1: four and then since then it has been rolling. I
- 35:57Speaker 1: think I've got my years right. But it was a
- 36:00Speaker 1: big loss. We had him on Team USA and then
- 36:03Speaker 1: he broke his handmate in spring. And anytime you have
- 36:06Speaker 1: some injuries or stay out for a little bit, I
- 36:09Speaker 1: think you can fly under the radar for a second.
- 36:12Speaker 1: And maybe West Coast.
- 36:13Speaker 2: Specially in Arizona. Yeah, West Coast.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Doesn't get quite as much of the love as as
- 36:18Speaker 1: normal people over here on the cool Coast is in
- 36:21Speaker 1: the East with us is uh Are, we're a little
- 36:25Speaker 1: they're in bed by the time that game ends. But
- 36:27Speaker 1: he is a monster in the middle of that lineup.
- 36:30Speaker 1: He can do everything. A lot of you know, we
- 36:32Speaker 1: talk about PCA and how good he is and the
- 36:36Speaker 1: five tools that he has Corporn Carrol's in that category
- 36:39Speaker 1: We're talking about speed, defense, power, the hit ability, just
- 36:44Speaker 1: a pure havoc on the bases and in the box
- 36:49Speaker 1: under radar. Maybe not as much attention, yes maybe, but
- 36:54Speaker 1: I think people in the game know how special he is.
- 36:56Speaker 1: And that's why we got to make sure we point
- 36:59Speaker 1: these guys out in the playa.
- 37:02Speaker 2: It's Corona Corona, Corona Plia the week Carol takes Yes, sir, Rossie.
- 37:10Speaker 2: We got six weeks. We got six weeks left of baseball.
- 37:14Speaker 2: The American League and National League wildcards are gonna come
- 37:17Speaker 2: down to the wire. There's a few division races. They
- 37:20Speaker 2: all West is gonna come down to the wire in
- 37:21Speaker 2: their division race. But let's talk about the American League wildcard.
- 37:25Speaker 2: You six, we have six teams in it, legit, six
- 37:28Speaker 2: teams that can make the playoffs. If you go on
- 37:30Speaker 2: a four and two run you are the favorite to
- 37:34Speaker 2: be in the final wildcard spot right now. That's how
- 37:37Speaker 2: crazy the league is right now. And the Orioles sell
- 37:41Speaker 2: at the deadline. The Rangers are kind of in between.
- 37:45Speaker 2: They tried to trade the Grom, they tried to trade Seeger.
- 37:47Speaker 2: They said, no, we're staying here. We can win here.
- 37:50Speaker 2: They're in it. The Blue Jays out of nowhere have
- 37:55Speaker 2: have come into it, the Twins, the Guardians, It's what
- 37:57Speaker 2: are like, what is going on?
- 37:59Speaker 1: Man? It's madness is crazy. Like I thought the Orioles
- 38:02Speaker 1: were dead and they have just caught fire, you know,
- 38:06Speaker 1: getting rid of Rushman obviously he was injured, uh when
- 38:10Speaker 1: with them, But you know they just.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Took three out of four from the race, yes, and
- 38:15Speaker 2: they had the lead yesterday to sweep.
- 38:17Speaker 1: And I think I think the I think the Razor
- 38:19Speaker 1: like one of the one of my favorite teams to
- 38:22Speaker 1: maybe win the whole name. They're nasty.
- 38:25Speaker 2: We got to give a shout out to my boy
- 38:26Speaker 2: Kobe Mayo for hitting his sixteenth home run yesterday. He
- 38:29Speaker 2: had a absolute nuke there tropicand of field that almost.
- 38:32Speaker 1: Hit the back wall there there.
- 38:34Speaker 2: He's come on the second half, he's he's hitting well.
- 38:37Speaker 1: Yeah, either I did the Ranger game, I don't know
- 38:39Speaker 1: if I'm buying that, you know, like the game I
- 38:41Speaker 1: saw they played make five errors against San Francisco at
- 38:45Speaker 1: the trade deadline. And I don't know. They've got the
- 38:48Speaker 1: names like Jock Jock swinging it well, you know they've
- 38:52Speaker 1: got they've got the names, but it just hasn't been
- 38:58Speaker 1: I don't know, it just didn't feel it felt state.
- 39:00Speaker 1: It just fell stale. Maybe it's just the game I
- 39:02Speaker 1: got and hadn't watched them a whole lot, But I'd
- 39:04Speaker 1: love like the Tigers to me, like they sold get
- 39:07Speaker 1: rid of schoobl and those guys win. Sampson, thank you.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Casey May has been pitching great for San Diego. Like,
- 39:16Speaker 1: but I know a J. Hinch can handle a bullpen
- 39:20Speaker 1: and those young guys have had a taste of.
- 39:22Speaker 2: And they could hit man and they can hit.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that's when they've got a good stat.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Runner for Rookie of the Year. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they
- 39:31Speaker 2: have a good staff.
- 39:32Speaker 1: The Guardians got a great stat. I I kind of
- 39:34Speaker 1: lean on the teams that have the great pitching staff
- 39:36Speaker 1: to like just be consistent down the stretch. And again
- 39:39Speaker 1: we're like mid August and we're walking this thing down
- 39:43Speaker 1: like like the playoffs.
- 39:46Speaker 2: It's crazy. It's a six weeks It's a six week sprint. Yeah,
- 39:49Speaker 2: and I know there is a little bit of you
- 39:52Speaker 2: do have some room for air as all these contenders,
- 39:55Speaker 2: but you don't have much. But then again you don't
- 39:58Speaker 2: have much and then the next thing, you know, a
- 39:59Speaker 2: team go was on an eight and two run or
- 40:01Speaker 2: a ten and two run, and they're right back in it.
- 40:03Speaker 2: So it's I mean, the Guardians have a very weak schedule.
- 40:07Speaker 2: The Tigers have a insane run differential. Toronto's the hottest
- 40:13Speaker 2: team in all of.
- 40:14Speaker 1: The well that playoff experience they had bottom tier make
- 40:17Speaker 1: those guys exactly right. And Vlad the scary part. Vlad
- 40:21Speaker 1: had hit all year, goes out with the concussion, getting
- 40:24Speaker 1: neat in the in the head. Hopefully he comes back
- 40:27Speaker 1: right and and maybe gets a little reset and hopefully
- 40:31Speaker 1: obviously Baltimore both dealt with concussions. That stuff sucks, it's
- 40:35Speaker 1: not but hopefully he.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Comes Baltimore has a tough schedule remaining. The Twins could
- 40:40Speaker 2: hit and pitch, So it's really what team's gonna get
- 40:42Speaker 2: hot and go take it. And then you have the
- 40:44Speaker 2: Red Sox and the Yankees up up at the top
- 40:47Speaker 2: there where they got to keep going. The Yankees are scuffling.
- 40:49Speaker 2: The Red Sox have kind of leveled off or came
- 40:52Speaker 2: back down to life.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they were. They were on another plane right
- 40:56Speaker 1: there for about a fell's life felt like a month plus.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Yeah, So that's going to be such a fun race
- 41:04Speaker 2: down the stretch, and I think it's going to be
- 41:07Speaker 2: one of these. Hopefully we get one of these twenty
- 41:10Speaker 2: eleven finishes where the last day of the season, remember
- 41:13Speaker 2: when Evan Mongoria hits the home run to go to
- 41:16Speaker 2: the make the playoffs and.
- 41:17Speaker 1: All that, that would be amazing.
- 41:19Speaker 2: Like, I feel like that's where we have a showdown
- 41:21Speaker 2: coming that these last week. I mean, there's so many
- 41:26Speaker 2: things up for grabs right now and it's six weeks left.
- 41:29Speaker 2: Any anything can happen.
- 41:31Speaker 1: That brings back a little PTSD. I do have to admit,
- 41:33Speaker 1: like you, I was in Atlanta and we Boston collouse,
- 41:36Speaker 1: but so did us in Atlanta, dere Derek Derek Low.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I think we had like a crazy like an eight
- 41:43Speaker 1: game lead or something and going into September, and Derek
- 41:47Speaker 1: Low says, I'll never forget. He's like, the only way
- 41:50Speaker 1: we're not making the playoffs is if our plane crashes. Well,
- 41:54Speaker 1: we didn't have a playing crowd. We we stunk down
- 41:59Speaker 1: the stretch and yeah, exactly exactly. But if okay, well
- 42:07Speaker 1: let me, I'll put you to the to the test.
- 42:09Speaker 1: If we had to pick one al team from our
- 42:12Speaker 1: list Orioles Rangers, Blue Jays, Tigers, Twins, Guardians like just
- 42:17Speaker 1: we won't we won't, we won't go detailed and get two,
- 42:20Speaker 1: but let's go one. Who who would you pick right
- 42:24Speaker 1: now as your favorite to get in? Guys, we were

- 43:20Speaker 1: sponsoring the pod and the bedroom.
- 43:22Speaker 2: You know, I just I'm going off cuff here. I'm
- 43:31Speaker 2: going with the Seattle Mariners. And I know they're not
- 43:33Speaker 2: on our list, right right, you didn't list them, but
- 43:36Speaker 2: their pitching staff is really good. Yea, how Roley just
- 43:40Speaker 2: they just won their first road series versus the Astros,
- 43:44Speaker 2: or first road series since late June. Right, they haven't
- 43:47Speaker 2: they went into an off day essay, they have the
- 43:49Speaker 2: Brewers today. I think the Brewers may be a little
- 43:51Speaker 2: let down after they're high adrenaline playing in LA, playing
- 43:55Speaker 2: the Dodgers. I feel like every time you play a
- 43:58Speaker 2: superpower team, you're always kind of have a little letdown
- 44:01Speaker 2: series next. So if if the Mariners get hot, they
- 44:06Speaker 2: have the pitching, If cal you can put the pass
- 44:10Speaker 2: in the past and just go out and just produce
- 44:13Speaker 2: to his his average self. Right, he doesn't need to
- 44:17Speaker 2: be the sixty homer cal Rally, but if you look
- 44:20Speaker 2: at his career, the cal Rally before that was a
- 44:22Speaker 2: pretty damn good Yeah too, Right, he's hitting thirty homers
- 44:25Speaker 2: every year, they're fifty nine and sixty six, but there
- 44:30Speaker 2: are three games back of that final wildcard spot. I
- 44:33Speaker 2: think that's that's my dark horse bold prediction because there's
- 44:36Speaker 2: a lot of teams that are chasing. Yeah, but I
- 44:38Speaker 2: do feel they can get hot on paper.
- 44:40Speaker 1: It feels like it feels like the pitching is real,
- 44:43Speaker 1: but it's that offense. I saw it when in New York.
- 44:45Speaker 1: It just feels like they've got nothing going on offensively
- 44:48Speaker 1: for me. I who do they get it too? Well?
- 44:53Speaker 1: I want to you wanna hear mine? You're my choice?
- 44:57Speaker 1: Can I can? I I want to participate. See how
- 45:00Speaker 1: wrong I am. Let everybody blow us up on social media.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Let's uh. I love pitching. And again it's a hard
- 45:09Speaker 1: one and they're in the same division, Tigers and Guardians. Uh.
- 45:12Speaker 1: But the Guardians pitching to me is real and you
- 45:17Speaker 1: already said it. Their schedule is light down the stretch.
- 45:20Speaker 1: And I don't know Stephen vote it just he's got
- 45:24Speaker 1: that little bit of break to the end. Yeah, it
- 45:26Speaker 1: seems like an awesome dude. So it seems like a great manager.
- 45:29Speaker 1: And just I feel like I like the way he's wired,
- 45:32Speaker 1: knowing him a little bit, but then from Afar just
- 45:34Speaker 1: watching him, Uh, he's wired the right way. And and
- 45:37Speaker 1: get those guys pushing and they're they're used to pushing
- 45:40Speaker 1: to the end and that underdog kind of uh feeling
- 45:43Speaker 1: that I'd push yeah.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Yeah, well and and too Roussie. Now that I'm done playing,
- 45:49Speaker 2: I definitely have a soft spot for Cleveland, you know
- 45:51Speaker 2: what I mean. I'll always root for them to win
- 45:53Speaker 2: now because, uh, the joy that they brought us. My
- 45:56Speaker 2: favorite road city, my favorite road city always while I
- 46:00Speaker 2: was playing Post twenty sixteen was Cleveland. Loved going back
- 46:03Speaker 2: to Cleveland. Everyone didn't believe me, but so yeah, Guardians
- 46:07Speaker 2: are good memories there, good memories to get into.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Uh.
- 46:10Speaker 2: The nl NL's got three spots, uh in the wildcar
- 46:15Speaker 2: for four teams for three spots. The Cubbies kind of
- 46:18Speaker 2: look like they have it locked up as of now,
- 46:21Speaker 2: but it can change.
- 46:22Speaker 1: The Phillies were.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Rolling and then all of a sudden they hit a little.
- 46:25Speaker 2: The Padres are another team at the deadline where Aj
- 46:30Speaker 2: Prowler goes out and said, hold on, we're not trading,
- 46:33Speaker 2: Mason Miller, We're not trading. We're gonna add okay, we're
- 46:36Speaker 2: gonna go out and get Robbie Ray. We're gonna go
- 46:38Speaker 2: out and get Casey Maies and we're gonna compete. And
- 46:40Speaker 2: if we have to play a three game series versus
- 46:42Speaker 2: the Dodgers or anyone we're ready to play, right, and
- 46:46Speaker 2: then you have the Diamondbacks, So those for me, I
- 46:53Speaker 2: think it's Cubs, Phillies, Padres in that wild wildcard spot
- 46:56Speaker 2: in some some order. But I mean bro races, right.
- 47:01Speaker 1: I'm with you.
- 47:02Speaker 2: Well, then take the Cups. Can the Cubs could catch
- 47:07Speaker 2: the Brewers? Really seven games against them in September. I mean,
- 47:11Speaker 2: the Brewers are are very good team.
- 47:13Speaker 1: They they are.
- 47:15Speaker 2: They're yeah, yeah, maybe they're not getting as much love
- 47:21Speaker 2: and coverage as they they should, but everyone knows in
- 47:25Speaker 2: the baseball world how good the Brewers are.
- 47:27Speaker 1: No doubt, no doubt. I'm with you. I the Padres
- 47:30Speaker 1: to me with I love just how a J. Prewler
- 47:33Speaker 1: is always going for it and uh, you know, push
- 47:35Speaker 1: the chips in. I just sold the team for a
- 47:39Speaker 1: lot of money and uh that what a what a
- 47:43Speaker 1: cool number. That was crazy.
- 47:44Speaker 2: It's crazy to think, with the owners saying how bad
- 47:48Speaker 2: the state of the game is and how much we
- 47:49Speaker 2: need to rewrite our CBA, that people are just paying
- 47:52Speaker 2: billions of dollars for these franchises, right, Rolseie, I would
- 47:55Speaker 2: be crazy. I think a billionaire would make such a
- 47:59Speaker 2: such a well have terrible decision.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Well, we'll have our CBA discussions, I'm sure on here
- 48:04Speaker 1: a little bit coming up. We've got a we've got
- 48:07Speaker 1: a long, a long way to go. I almost stay
- 48:11Speaker 1: out of negative town and go to the Padres. That offense,
- 48:16Speaker 1: I'm with you on that that the offense.
- 48:20Speaker 5: Is hitting and hit all year up until the All
- 48:23Speaker 5: Star break, and like that list of guys they have,
- 48:27Speaker 5: there's no way they were going to go the entire
- 48:29Speaker 5: season without getting the back of the base numbers closer
- 48:32Speaker 5: to the back of the baseball card.
- 48:34Speaker 2: They're scared, and I think I think it's good for
- 48:36Speaker 2: them that all this, all these expectations have kind of
- 48:39Speaker 2: faded and now they're back to the underdog San Diego
- 48:43Speaker 2: Padres and not a World Series favorite Padres, And I
- 48:47Speaker 2: think that can play into their favor Where they they
- 48:50Speaker 2: get in, they can be really scared. They have really
- 48:51Speaker 2: good pitching, they have their bullpens insane, and they have
- 48:54Speaker 2: superstar players on the offensive side. So that's a that's
- 48:57Speaker 2: a dark horse team for sure. Now the whole n L,
- 49:00Speaker 2: the whole that's that's why if the Dodgers can pull
- 49:04Speaker 2: this off again and they do a three, they go
- 49:07Speaker 2: three pet The last three years of the National League
- 49:10Speaker 2: in the playoffs has been must watch television. It's in
- 49:13Speaker 2: must watch playoff baseball. Any team that gets in the
- 49:16Speaker 2: NL can win the World Series legitimately, like legitimate World
- 49:21Speaker 2: Series contenders. So I gotta give this six weeks.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Give the Cards a shout out. They they played, they're
- 49:29Speaker 1: playing well, and they got a lot of good young
- 49:32Speaker 1: town one of the youngest teams in baseball. And the
- 49:35Speaker 1: way they played in Chicago and Chicago was rolling. It
- 49:39Speaker 1: was impressive. So they're only I think three back. Same
- 49:42Speaker 1: thing like you're like, you're talking about Seattle's gonna be
- 49:44Speaker 1: tough with all those good teams in front of them,
- 49:46Speaker 1: to and and in a tough division, but they're definitely there.
- 49:52Speaker 1: All right, Riz, We asked the people to send in
- 49:55Speaker 1: a weekly question for our Tim Bust ball bag. All right,
- 49:59Speaker 1: and our first question has come from YouTube comment from
- 50:03Speaker 1: at the d d R twenty four and it's for you, Riz, Riz.
- 50:09Speaker 1: You became my favorite all time cub when you hand
- 50:12Speaker 1: him the guy on first base hand sanitizer the first
- 50:15Speaker 1: game after the shutdowns of twenty twenty, I laughed so
- 50:18Speaker 1: hard when I saw you do that. Please explain the
- 50:20Speaker 1: origins of that IDEA great question.
- 50:24Speaker 2: Thank you, A great question. It's a little scary that
- 50:28Speaker 2: that's what it took for me to become your favorite player,
- 50:30Speaker 2: but I'll take it.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Huh. Look, yes, yes, dude, you're the all year old
- 50:40Speaker 1: timer of having fun on the baseball field for me.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean twenty twenty was such a I mean, Rossie,
- 50:45Speaker 2: you know it. When we started twenty twenty COVID two
- 50:49Speaker 2: point zero. Without getting into too many details, ROSSI, I
- 50:52Speaker 2: gave all of our players a care package for when
- 50:54Speaker 2: we started spring training or the season.
- 50:58Speaker 1: But I just thought I'll explain some of the things
- 51:01Speaker 1: in it. We had a I got a mask in
- 51:03Speaker 1: their gift bag, coaches included. It was just a great
- 51:06Speaker 1: gift bag to start twenty twenty, twenty twenty one spring training.
- 51:11Speaker 1: And you gave us a hand sanitizer, a little mini
- 51:16Speaker 1: hand sanitizer, and one of our sponsors there was a
- 51:18Speaker 1: blue choo in there. All the coaches were like, what
- 51:23Speaker 1: is this? What was this? The boys appreciated it, so
- 51:26Speaker 1: shout out blue chee.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Yes. I just thought during that time in COVID when
- 51:32Speaker 2: baseball was on we were pretty much the only sport
- 51:34Speaker 2: on making light of You got to have humor in life, right,
- 51:39Speaker 2: And we had all these restrictions. We couldn't be six feet,
- 51:42Speaker 2: had to wear a mask. We were getting tested every day.
- 51:45Speaker 2: We were kind of in our own bubble. So right
- 51:48Speaker 2: before the game, I was like, Hey, I'm going to
- 51:49Speaker 2: put some sanitizer in my back pocket, and first got
- 51:52Speaker 2: it gets on to make sure he sanitizes, so, you know,
- 51:54Speaker 2: show the world we're being safe.
- 51:57Speaker 1: That was amazing. I had forgotten about that to The
- 52:00Speaker 1: question came in a manage that you know as hilarious Brothers.
- 52:04Speaker 2: A good question. Yeah, it was a really good question.
- 52:08Speaker 2: We got an email from jan Do you think the
- 52:12Speaker 2: Brewers will ever reach the same degree of rivalry with
- 52:15Speaker 2: the Cubs that the Cardinals have or is this current
- 52:17Speaker 2: rivalry with the Brewer is just a flash.
- 52:19Speaker 1: In the pan. Oh. I don't think it's a flash
- 52:22Speaker 1: in the pan from like the Brewers being good. I
- 52:25Speaker 1: just think there's so much history Cubs, Cards, Uh, that
- 52:29Speaker 1: just is it's gonna have to go on for a
- 52:30Speaker 1: really long time. And I think, you know, looking back
- 52:34Speaker 1: and being a part of a lot of that, Like
- 52:36Speaker 1: you know, I think about the best rivalries. I think
- 52:39Speaker 1: a lot of people come with like Red Sox Yankees.
- 52:43Speaker 1: Well that kind of goes back and forth, and when
- 52:45Speaker 1: teams are good, but the still Red Sox Yankees is
- 52:47Speaker 1: big and I came up a Dodger, and Dodger San
- 52:51Speaker 1: Francisco is the biggest one to me because that's what
- 52:53Speaker 1: I came up in when San Francisco was really good
- 52:56Speaker 1: and so where was La. So you know, like the
- 53:00Speaker 1: rivalries is so fan oriented. It's just about the history
- 53:04Speaker 1: to me, and they're just the Brewers don't have.
- 53:07Speaker 2: The fan or yeah, no they don't. And I think
- 53:12Speaker 2: whenever you're in division, you you come to hate all
- 53:16Speaker 2: of these teams in your division. Right, I hated the Pirates,
- 53:19Speaker 2: I hate the Reds. Yeah, I hate the Brewers. And
- 53:22Speaker 2: when the teams aren't good, you don't really care about
- 53:25Speaker 2: them for much, especially when you're the big boys in
- 53:28Speaker 2: the division where the Cubs and the the Yankees. But
- 53:32Speaker 2: then these teams become good and they get this little
- 53:34Speaker 2: edge and it really irks you.
- 53:37Speaker 1: So when they always want to be the most right
- 53:39Speaker 1: that like the Pirates want to back the big market
- 53:41Speaker 1: teams or you know all this.
- 53:43Speaker 2: Well, when you when you have when you play for
- 53:46Speaker 2: the big market team, and these teams come in the
- 53:48Speaker 2: Skylar report on these pictures, are you know ninety three
- 53:52Speaker 2: to ninety seven. Well, when they're coming into Wrigley Field
- 53:54Speaker 2: or Yankee Stadium, you're seeing ninety seven. You're seeing the
- 53:57Speaker 2: top end of every picture stuff because they're Adrenaline's role
- 54:00Speaker 2: and they're playing a Wriggly, They're playing at New York.
- 54:02Speaker 2: They don't get this experience at the smaller market level.
- 54:05Speaker 2: So I don't think the rivalry we beat at ever
- 54:09Speaker 2: as big as Cubs Cardinals because the fans and the history.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Like you said, Rossie, but that that rivalry right now,
- 54:15Speaker 2: the Brewers of the team to beat in that division,
- 54:17Speaker 2: and the Cubs know it. And when the Cubs go
- 54:19Speaker 2: up there to Wrigley North, it's loud. It's a lot
- 54:23Speaker 2: of cheers to the Cubs, and Bruce fans are trying
- 54:25Speaker 2: to counter that. They all all the Bruise fans of
- 54:28Speaker 2: their elf flags if they beat them leaving the stadium.
- 54:31Speaker 2: I mean, it's becoming it's becoming a real rivalry. Sure
- 54:36Speaker 2: get to our last question email from Luke Smitley. This
- 54:39Speaker 2: one's for you, Patna Rossi Rossie, I'd love to hear
- 54:42Speaker 2: about the evolution of pitch calling from when you first
- 54:46Speaker 2: came into the league versus now. Obviously Velo has changed
- 54:49Speaker 2: things tremendously over the years. How hard is it to
- 54:52Speaker 2: evolve while playing and constantly having to change what you
- 54:55Speaker 2: grew up learning and knowing about calling the game as
- 54:58Speaker 2: a catcher.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Oh, you already heard me talking about it a little bit.
- 55:01Speaker 1: Great question. I think about this all the time, and
- 55:05Speaker 1: something that I couldn't wrap my brain around is just
- 55:09Speaker 1: how little location there is in the game. Now. It's
- 55:13Speaker 1: like a lot of catchers setting up middle, riding north
- 55:17Speaker 1: and south and really don't get on the edges as much.
- 55:19Speaker 1: You know, I was on the edges for especially at
- 55:21Speaker 1: the end of my career with John Lester, who you know,
- 55:24Speaker 1: could really locate. We had guys like Kyle Hendricks obviously,
- 55:27Speaker 1: Jake Arietta, John Lackey. I mean these guys, these guys
- 55:31Speaker 1: were on the edges and you're working the corners up
- 55:35Speaker 1: down a little bit, but really in and out a
- 55:37Speaker 1: lot more, and especially earlier in my career. So I
- 55:40Speaker 1: think the toughest part, which I understand, is just straight
- 55:44Speaker 1: velocity and setting up middle and spin rates and trying
- 55:48Speaker 1: to just throw nasty stuff in the zone and let
- 55:51Speaker 1: it do what it does. But we talked to a
- 55:54Speaker 1: good friend of the program, Kyle Schwarber. I talked to
- 55:56Speaker 1: him in the WBC, and he made us statement that
- 56:00Speaker 1: made a little bit of sense. Is he's able to
- 56:03Speaker 1: set his sites a lot more middle and hitting has
- 56:07Speaker 1: become a little less of a guessing game and just
- 56:10Speaker 1: kind of like reacting to a space in the mill
- 56:13Speaker 1: zone that he's looking for. Uh. And it made a
- 56:16Speaker 1: lot of sense because you know, guys aren't backdoor and
- 56:20Speaker 1: nasty breaking balls or cutters or you know, some guys can,
- 56:24Speaker 1: but like consistently around the league, a lot of guys
- 56:27Speaker 1: are going middle stuff and these guys get to see
- 56:29Speaker 1: stuff all the time. Yeah, So my two cents is,
- 56:33Speaker 1: you know, location has just kind of taken a back seat.
- 56:36Speaker 2: The Dale Sway, former manager when I was young, said
- 56:41Speaker 2: this comment that's stuck with me forever. You're gonna get
- 56:43Speaker 2: over a thousand pitches right down the middle of the
- 56:46Speaker 2: plate in baseball, we call it cock shots right down
- 56:50Speaker 2: the middle of the plate a year, and it's what
- 56:52Speaker 2: are you going to do? You don't know what it's
- 56:53Speaker 2: gonna be it's gonna be a fastball, curveball, sider, change up, sweeper, sprinkler,
- 56:57Speaker 2: whatever they're making up now, but it's gonna be right
- 56:59Speaker 2: down the plate over a thousand times every single year,
- 57:02Speaker 2: which always has stood out to me the evolution. But
- 57:10Speaker 2: told me, he said, Uh.
- 57:12Speaker 1: I asked him one day, I say, where do you
- 57:13Speaker 1: look for the ball? I thought, like a catch? I
- 57:15Speaker 1: always looked for, like I knew they were going away
- 57:16Speaker 1: from me, like fastball sliders away. And he I was like,
- 57:20Speaker 1: what do you look? What do you look for? And
- 57:21Speaker 1: he's like, I look for the ball right down the middle.
- 57:22Speaker 1: I'm like, what right down the middle? Yeah, It's like,
- 57:26Speaker 1: no wonder, I'm a career two twenty, Like I'm looking
- 57:29Speaker 1: at the wrong place.
- 57:30Speaker 2: Well, it seems it seems right now that it's really
- 57:34Speaker 2: easy to be lazy with your scouting reports because we
- 57:40Speaker 2: have all the information. Because all the information, everyone has
- 57:43Speaker 2: all the information, So it's really easy to cram for
- 57:46Speaker 2: the test to where if you really study and you
- 57:49Speaker 2: it seems easy to just cram for the test instead
- 57:51Speaker 2: of really diving into video of these guys and watching
- 57:55Speaker 2: their their their tendencies and seeing it on film is
- 58:00Speaker 2: so much different than just seeing the scout and report.
- 58:02Speaker 2: And that's sometimes what I see in the league where
- 58:05Speaker 2: it's like, man, why why is that pitch being thrown?
- 58:07Speaker 2: Even when I was playing in my last few years,
- 58:09Speaker 2: why would they throw this pitch? And then it's because
- 58:12Speaker 2: they just get the information it's all on your wristband
- 58:15Speaker 2: and they're kind of just going off of that, where
- 58:19Speaker 2: my question is our guys really grinding on the hours
- 58:21Speaker 2: of video that I used to see you grinding on?
- 58:23Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I don't know. And then I think
- 58:26Speaker 1: a lost art because of all the information is reading swings.
- 58:29Speaker 1: You know, we're so polygrammed to you.
- 58:31Speaker 2: Know it's going to come back.
- 58:33Speaker 1: It has to, it has to well. And we talked
- 58:35Speaker 1: to guys. I was listening to an interview the other day.
- 58:38Speaker 1: I forgot who it was, but they were talking about
- 58:39Speaker 1: they're not really good at reading swings and as a pitch.
- 58:42Speaker 1: I think it may have been schemes and like some
- 58:46Speaker 1: of these guys that fought foul balls off, they're late
- 58:48Speaker 1: and they found them off the other dugout and you
- 58:50Speaker 1: think it's a good approach, but you know they it
- 58:53Speaker 1: was a big hit. It was a big hit. In
- 58:56Speaker 1: a Phillies game and was just fouling off the fastball
- 59:01Speaker 1: and didn't have good numbers, and the guys talking about him,
- 59:04Speaker 1: maybe it was Frank Corr, Jeff Frank Corr, but they
- 59:07Speaker 1: sped him up through him a breaking ball on his own,
- 59:09Speaker 1: he had a bases loaded double, and you know it,
- 59:14Speaker 1: just if you were reading that swing, you knew either
- 59:17Speaker 1: you had to throw the off speed for chase or
- 59:20Speaker 1: stay with the fastball in different locations. So reading swings
- 59:23Speaker 1: is one of those things that I was pretty good
- 59:25Speaker 1: at and was able to maybe get off the scouting
- 59:28Speaker 1: report a little bit at times when it just felt
- 59:31Speaker 1: like you could tell what the hitter was thinking.
- 59:33Speaker 2: That does it for our Tim Buss ball Bag Questions
