- 0:00Speaker 1: Difficult this year. Just put the trade deadline being on
- 0:01Speaker 1: our Friday, right, it had a big impact on just
- 0:05Speaker 1: being able to get documents in on the weekend. As
- 0:07Speaker 1: you know, government offices aren't open on the weekend from
- 0:10Speaker 1: that standpoint, so it delays the process. Obviously, wor Klow
- 0:15Speaker 1: and government agencies aren't always at the top right now.
- 0:18Speaker 1: It's so it's it's a waiting game from that bit.
- 0:21Speaker 1: We you know, we certainly have people that we try
- 0:23Speaker 1: to help out with try to move this process along
- 0:25Speaker 1: as quickly as possible. You do see some teams having
- 0:28Speaker 1: some Canadians already playing, but you know they've had a
- 0:32Speaker 1: history of playing the United States, so they have their
- 0:34Speaker 1: green card or permanent residence card, or you know they
- 0:37Speaker 1: have a citizenship already. So this was a unique scenario
- 0:40Speaker 1: having a Canadian who hasn't worked in the States at
- 0:42Speaker 1: well before. So you have to go through the process.
- 0:44Speaker 1: And as much as we're working as hard as n
- 0:48Speaker 1: it's it's a little bit of overhands.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Welcome to Kraken this morning, a presentation of the krak
- 0:54Speaker 2: And Audio Network and Sports Radio ninety three point three
- 0:57Speaker 2: kJ r FM.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Here's Mike bet those words you just heard were from
- 1:02Speaker 3: Krack and GM Jason Botteroll leading off this drop of
- 1:04Speaker 3: kracken this morning and on the pending arrival of Bobby
- 1:08Speaker 3: McMahon officially into the Cracking lineup that of course held
- 1:11Speaker 3: up due to immigration clearance.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Mcman of course is in Seattle in practice, but the
- 1:17Speaker 4: waiting game is still going on right now. And for
- 1:20Speaker 4: more on that, plus an outlook of the crack And
- 1:22Speaker 4: roster and this tretch drive of the playoffs, you can
- 1:25Speaker 4: check out our conversation with Jason Bottero by the way
- 1:28Speaker 4: in full for the latest Crack and Weekly drop via
- 1:31Speaker 4: the iHeartRadio. At tonight, at the Crack and take on
- 1:34Speaker 4: the Colorado Avalanche on a Thursday, March twelfth, the finale
- 1:38Speaker 4: of a season long tying six game homestand and this
- 1:42Speaker 4: matchup is going to be a massive hill for the
- 1:45Speaker 4: Krack and two climb. Colorado comes in top team in
- 1:49Speaker 4: the NHL, virtually top team in several high mark categories,
- 1:53Speaker 4: including goals for three point seven per game, goals against,
- 1:57Speaker 4: two point four per game, penalty kill fifth best in
- 2:01Speaker 4: the entire NHL, and leading the pack right now for
- 2:04Speaker 4: them offensively, the guy they called Nate Dogg one hundred
- 2:07Speaker 4: and four points so far in sixty two games for
- 2:10Speaker 4: Nathan McKinnon, not too far behind him, of course, defensively,
- 2:15Speaker 4: as far as impact production is Calee mccarr nineteen goals
- 2:19Speaker 4: in sixty three games, sixty six points, car third in
- 2:23Speaker 4: NHL scoring among defensemen, and McKinnon tight for second in
- 2:28Speaker 4: the NHL, right behind Connor McDavid's one hundred and ten
- 2:32Speaker 4: points on the campaign. Once again, opening face off seven
- 2:36Speaker 4: o'clock Pacific time this evening from climbing Pledgarina Eretimes six
- 2:40Speaker 4: point thirty for your pregame show, served up by Frostbrewed
- 2:42Speaker 4: Corpse Light twose chill ever it fits you, Al Koniski
- 2:46Speaker 4: in the booth, I'll join you once again back to
- 2:48Speaker 4: the course light landing in section twenty while anders Hurst
- 2:51Speaker 4: joins me. Postgame will be right across the street from
- 2:54Speaker 4: Tom's watch bar. Up to an hour after the final horn,
- 2:58Speaker 4: we'll hear more from head coach Sane Lambert. With Jaden
- 3:01Speaker 4: Schwartz now out indefinitely, upper body injury after the frea
- 3:05Speaker 4: claceration he suffered with escape to his face against Ottawa
- 3:08Speaker 4: could have been much worse. Definitely, goaltender Matt Murray also
- 3:11Speaker 4: off by r plus the waiting game here with Bobby McMahon,
- 3:15Speaker 4: and also we'll catch up with Ford Ryan Winterton coming
- 3:18Speaker 4: off a contract extension and ingraining himself right now deeper
- 3:23Speaker 4: into the fourth line with Ben Myers and Jacob Alanson.
- 3:27Speaker 4: Ryan Winterton also coming up here. In just a fitch,
- 3:30Speaker 4: the Kraken fell forward two to the Nashville Predators in
- 3:33Speaker 4: the game that they could have really used for two points,
- 3:36Speaker 4: leading it to nothing, but Nashville came back with four
- 3:40Speaker 4: unanswered goals. The crack and two nothing lead after period
- 3:43Speaker 4: one went up in smoke on goals by Nashville's Tyson jost,
- 3:48Speaker 4: Reid Schaeffer, Ryan upgo first of his NHL career, and
- 3:52Speaker 4: then Steven Stanco stacking on a third period empty net
- 3:55Speaker 4: gold nagating Matt Eveniers's effort two thirds of the way
- 3:59Speaker 4: to a Gordy House hat trick. He had a goal
- 4:01Speaker 4: and a fight as well. Stick it up for Jered
- 4:03Speaker 4: mccannon who got a hit by Justin Barron in the
- 4:06Speaker 4: numbers back in the third period, and also cot Bolcaco's
- 4:09Speaker 4: game opening goal. Now the Cracken process that here's that
- 4:13Speaker 4: coach lane Lamber beating with the media after practice on Wednesday.
- 4:16Speaker 5: You know, it's really a shame we didn't win the
- 4:18Speaker 5: hockey game. I thought we had certainly enough chances we
- 4:21Speaker 5: have chanced them. You know, I thought their goaltender played well.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I didn't think our goaltender played poorly, you know, but
- 4:31Speaker 5: we gave them goals. You know, there's for sure too
- 4:36Speaker 5: that he didn't have a chance on because it was
- 4:39Speaker 5: empty nets. You know, so right now when we break down,
- 4:44Speaker 5: it's sort of catastrophic. I guess you could say in
- 4:49Speaker 5: terms of that, we just got to be better in
- 4:52Speaker 5: that area. But we certainly played well enough to win.
- 4:55Speaker 5: And you know, even though they you know, they scored
- 5:00Speaker 5: their goals in the second period, we had plenty of chances.
- 5:03Speaker 5: We really did told in rate in the slot. You know,
- 5:05Speaker 5: Chandler pass stopping the crease probably has a tap in.
- 5:10Speaker 5: You know, there was some opportunities for us to win
- 5:12Speaker 5: that hockey game, for sure.
- 5:15Speaker 6: On the breakdowns, is that like our guys in the
- 5:17Speaker 6: right spot like systematically, or is it just a more
- 5:21Speaker 6: of an execution thing, you know what I mean, Like
- 5:22Speaker 6: are people going to the wrong place and making mental
- 5:25Speaker 6: mistakes or is it just.
- 5:27Speaker 5: It's a bit of both. Sometimes, yeah, it's a good question.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Sometimes we're we're making a mental mistake and getting in
- 5:33Speaker 5: the wrong spot. And a lot of times where you
- 5:36Speaker 5: know we're in the right spot, you know, and things
- 5:40Speaker 5: are just happening where you know, pucks are getting through
- 5:43Speaker 5: or whatever. But you know, we've had some some breakdowns.
- 5:47Speaker 5: My issue right now is I don't think we're standing
- 5:51Speaker 5: around too much in the defensive zone. We've got to
- 5:54Speaker 5: go eliminate. I've talked about it all year long. I've
- 5:57Speaker 5: talked about it recently, you know, and uh, you get
- 6:02Speaker 5: into this situation when you get on your heels and
- 6:05Speaker 5: you're not on your toes and now you're you know,
- 6:09Speaker 5: you're not able to separate them from the puck. And
- 6:11Speaker 5: it's going to be critical tomorrow night against Colorado that
- 6:14Speaker 5: we create some separation in our defensive zone.
- 6:18Speaker 4: That's parked too much on the comment last night, but
- 6:21Speaker 4: it was interesting who's saying that we you know, it's
- 6:23Speaker 4: been a.
- 6:23Speaker 6: Few years since our teams to come back here.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Yeah, said you know.
- 6:25Speaker 4: That you'd be mentally tougher. Sure, but what like is
- 6:31Speaker 4: it kind of like getta act like you've been there before,
- 6:32Speaker 4: you know, if you if you act like a playoff team,
- 6:35Speaker 4: you are a playoff team.
- 6:36Speaker 5: Like what do you Well, it's partially that, yeah, for sure,
- 6:39Speaker 5: you know, get a swagger. Uh. You know, again, we've
- 6:42Speaker 5: had a really you know, we've had another substandard stretch here. Uh,
- 6:49Speaker 5: you know, but we wake up today and we're we're
- 6:51Speaker 5: in the playoffs. We control our own destiny and uh,
- 6:56Speaker 5: you know, the mindset of understanding that and the mindset
- 6:59Speaker 5: of going out and doing that, you know, it has
- 7:02Speaker 5: to be there at this time of the year. And
- 7:04Speaker 5: what I meant last night was we have some young
- 7:06Speaker 5: players that haven't been here before, and so you know
- 7:11Speaker 5: that's a learned process for them, and the game ramps up,
- 7:16Speaker 5: there's no ifs, hands or butts about it. So you know,
- 7:19Speaker 5: they're in that sort of first time experienced situation to
- 7:24Speaker 5: a certain degree, and our veteran guys need to help
- 7:26Speaker 5: him out. It's nice not to have to ask you
- 7:29Speaker 5: for a memory update. But what has his off lgi R?
- 7:33Speaker 7: What has he been able to.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Kind of do for your team in the months that
- 7:36Speaker 4: he's been just practice thing?
- 7:38Speaker 5: Well, he's a veteran guy. Obviously, he's won Stanley Cups.
- 7:41Speaker 5: You know, as a starting goaltender. So I've leaned on
- 7:45Speaker 5: him over the course of the last couple of months
- 7:47Speaker 5: when he's been hurt, just to get a feel for
- 7:50Speaker 5: what his thoughts are in certain situations. He's a very
- 7:53Speaker 5: intelligent guy, veteran guy, a winner, you know, so he's
- 7:58Speaker 5: really helped and I think he's helped his team makes
- 8:00Speaker 5: that way too, and certainly he's helped the goaltenders. You know,
- 8:03Speaker 5: it's nice to see him get activated and we'll see
- 8:06Speaker 5: what happens.
- 8:07Speaker 1: You mean, you like, go over and ask for his
- 8:08Speaker 1: observations on.
- 8:13Speaker 6: I know, the update on Jane Shorts just out and
- 8:15Speaker 6: definitely obviously his injury was concerning for fans that might
- 8:21Speaker 6: be worried about his status. There anything more that he
- 8:23Speaker 6: could shares and how he's doing in general.
- 8:26Speaker 5: Well, he's on you know, he's on the road to recovery. Obviously.
- 8:30Speaker 5: You know it's going to take some time, you know,
- 8:33Speaker 5: but he will and you know, thank goodness for that.
- 8:38Speaker 5: I was probably from me to you away when it
- 8:40Speaker 5: happened a little farther, I guess, but the impact of it,
- 8:43Speaker 5: the noise of it, the fact that the skate you know,
- 8:47Speaker 5: hit him flat as opposed to you know, potentially the
- 8:52Speaker 5: other way was, uh, you know, we're all real thankful
- 8:57Speaker 5: for that.
- 8:59Speaker 6: And then by McMahon looks like he was kind of
- 9:01Speaker 6: cycling in on the fourth line today. Is he good
- 9:04Speaker 6: to go tomorrow?
- 9:05Speaker 4: Does he have for to all do that?
- 9:08Speaker 5: We do not have what we need and that's why
- 9:12Speaker 5: he's on the fourth line. Today's cycling in. But we
- 9:15Speaker 5: certainly hope that that comes to fruition here in the
- 9:18Speaker 5: next twenty four hours.
- 9:20Speaker 6: Because your expectation is not that he's going to get
- 9:23Speaker 6: east In right. You're going to put him into a
- 9:26Speaker 6: assuming he can play right, you're going to put him
- 9:28Speaker 6: into a spot.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Where As the crack in bottom six of their four
- 9:31Speaker 4: lineup continues to etge anur identity. Ryan Winterton is a
- 9:34Speaker 4: big part of it, of course, He Ben Meyers Jacob Mallanson,
- 9:37Speaker 4: well known for a hard ford checking and abrasive style
- 9:41Speaker 4: of play and winnington A. While his numbers won't pop
- 9:43Speaker 4: as much to say players like Jordan Eberley or Matty
- 9:46Speaker 4: Veniers events done, still very much a respectable sixteen points
- 9:51Speaker 4: in fifty eight games, used in a depth role, along
- 9:54Speaker 4: with the spot on the second penalty kill unit, which
- 9:56Speaker 4: has turned the corner in the most recent six games,
- 10:00Speaker 4: not allowing a power play goal in that stretch. Winterton
- 10:03Speaker 4: last month agreeing to a two year contract extension. Just
- 10:06Speaker 4: like as line may, Ben Myers and Winterton now locked
- 10:09Speaker 4: up for the next two seasons at one point one
- 10:12Speaker 4: million dollars annually plus kicking in this next campaign. We
- 10:17Speaker 4: caught up in the dressing room with Ryan Winterton the
- 10:20Speaker 4: extension that's all done. Congratulations. What did it mean to
- 10:23Speaker 4: get that finally locked up?
- 10:24Speaker 2: Thank you?
- 10:24Speaker 7: Yeah, I've meant a lot, just be kind of secured
- 10:27Speaker 7: for the next two years here. Was kind of always
- 10:31Speaker 7: wanted to be here and to have another two years
- 10:33Speaker 7: here to kind of prove myself and continue to grow
- 10:36Speaker 7: as a player in individuals, you know, very exciting.
- 10:39Speaker 4: It feels like a long way away since draft day
- 10:41Speaker 4: for you. But I mean times change, things change, and
- 10:43Speaker 4: dynamics change as well, and when you make your way
- 10:46Speaker 4: into the league, it's off in the period where you're
- 10:48Speaker 4: trying to correspind a way to fit in, but also
- 10:51Speaker 4: do that long term. What have you picked up about
- 10:53Speaker 4: this league and how you fit in with this game
- 10:55Speaker 4: and even now a line that's growing here for you
- 10:58Speaker 4: and Jacob Alanson and Ben my us here within identity.
- 11:01Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I just kind of coming in and you
- 11:03Speaker 7: just gotta be ready to go every night and kind
- 11:06Speaker 7: of you know, if you take a game off, it
- 11:08Speaker 7: could be her last. So I'm just trying to live
- 11:10Speaker 7: with that mindset and just being consistent and coming ready
- 11:13Speaker 7: to every every day of the rink, ready to work,
- 11:15Speaker 7: and obviously helps you out those linemates who kind of
- 11:18Speaker 7: I've said it before, but they kind of bring in
- 11:20Speaker 7: the fight with them. You know, why is he carrying
- 11:22Speaker 7: the puck through in which is a just easy to
- 11:23Speaker 7: play with him mel just just running guys and making
- 11:27Speaker 7: plays and you know, being a being a past to
- 11:29Speaker 7: play again. So you know, I think we call him
- 11:31Speaker 7: in each other well and just kind of, like I said,
- 11:33Speaker 7: drag each other into the fight and drag the team
- 11:35Speaker 7: in a fight. Hopefully.
- 11:36Speaker 4: Have you had a chance to listen to Jacob Alanson
- 11:39Speaker 4: and scrums, whistle blows and he starts running his mouth
- 11:41Speaker 4: and anything funny that kind of comes out of his
- 11:43Speaker 4: mouth as well.
- 11:44Speaker 7: He's a funny guy. Alex call him cave man because
- 11:47Speaker 7: some of the time he talks it's just jumble. But no,
- 11:51Speaker 7: he's always in the mix. I haven't heard too much
- 11:53Speaker 7: right now, but you know, he's tripping me. I tend
- 11:55Speaker 7: to give it to him about how he's mumbling about.
- 11:57Speaker 7: But no, I honestly I'm surprised I haven't, but yeah,
- 12:02Speaker 7: I'll be ears will be O for it.
- 12:04Speaker 4: When is the last time you really went back to
- 12:06Speaker 4: the bench after something like that happen and you really
- 12:08Speaker 4: kind of got the sense and the feel that the
- 12:10Speaker 4: bench was fired.
- 12:12Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean kind of every game, you know, Mel's
- 12:15Speaker 7: kind of doing something that get the boys going. You know,
- 12:17Speaker 7: whether it was last game when you know, told we
- 12:20Speaker 7: got the goal and Mel was you know, I think
- 12:22Speaker 7: it was Cleven or you know, kind of ran Ebbs
- 12:25Speaker 7: and kind of mewing up to him. It was just
- 12:27Speaker 7: kind of you know, playing hard against in that shift
- 12:29Speaker 7: and you know, end up scoring and I think you
- 12:30Speaker 7: should have the say. So that was pretty good and
- 12:33Speaker 7: I think, you know, all the boys just enjoy that
- 12:35Speaker 7: and how he sticks up for for everyone.
- 12:38Speaker 4: Ryan Winnington joining us and I love how you mentioned
- 12:40Speaker 4: about consistency, showing up everyday ready to work here and
- 12:43Speaker 4: it seems like a simple formula, but to the degree
- 12:46Speaker 4: that you do it, I mean that's kind of what
- 12:48Speaker 4: separates the NHL player from just say versus the average
- 12:50Speaker 4: minor league or a guy coming up the same college
- 12:53Speaker 4: or major junior. So, you know, coming up, what did
- 12:56Speaker 4: you learn about the most important part about consistency in
- 12:59Speaker 4: your group? Seeing that matters most.
- 13:01Speaker 7: I think it varies from kind of guy. For me,
- 13:04Speaker 7: it's you know, make sure I'm eating enough food and
- 13:07Speaker 7: make sure you know my weight stand up because you
- 13:09Speaker 7: know it could usually slip with what the schedule we got.
- 13:11Speaker 7: You're playing every other day and practice usually, so there's
- 13:14Speaker 7: a lot of a lot of sweat and a lot
- 13:15Speaker 7: of calories going out and just besides that, just coming
- 13:19Speaker 7: the rank ready to go.
- 13:20Speaker 5: The warm ups are huge.
- 13:22Speaker 7: You know maybe when I was in junior, I wouldn't
- 13:23Speaker 7: do do a warm up or anything, but you kind
- 13:25Speaker 7: of learn as you go and just I think out
- 13:28Speaker 7: everything kind of has to get elevated to the next
- 13:30Speaker 7: level if you want to stay here, you know, every
- 13:31Speaker 7: game and the year after year.
- 13:33Speaker 4: For people who don't understand this, on average, how much
- 13:36Speaker 4: can you guess maybe how many calvaries per day that
- 13:38Speaker 4: you're consuming?
- 13:39Speaker 5: Uh?
- 13:40Speaker 7: For the kind of varies from got a guy MANI
- 13:43Speaker 7: probably like two thousand me, probably like.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Forty forty five hundred.
- 13:47Speaker 4: What do you have to consume to keep your weight
- 13:49Speaker 4: energy ut for forty five hundred per day? What do
- 13:51Speaker 4: I have to eat?
- 13:52Speaker 7: It's probably like a breakfast launch the pre dinner like
- 13:58Speaker 7: pre dinner, like almost like another dinner pretty much two
- 14:01Speaker 7: dinners after a game also, right four o'clock, yeah, four
- 14:06Speaker 7: o'clock and then like seven thirty and then after games.
- 14:09Speaker 7: After games is tough for me. Yeah, after games is
- 14:12Speaker 7: tough for me, just like I.
- 14:17Speaker 4: That's Brandon mont are also jumping in here. What do
- 14:19Speaker 4: you know about that that moni and his any habits? Also,
- 14:22Speaker 4: I don't know much.
- 14:23Speaker 7: I know he's a chef, which I haven't seen yet,
- 14:25Speaker 7: but I would love to be over when a chef comes.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Bring Brandon montor over for one night.
- 14:33Speaker 5: What's he cooking?
- 14:33Speaker 7: I would be asking him for a Tomahawk's steak and
- 14:37Speaker 7: probably like fries, we.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Go medium or medium rare on that thing.
- 14:41Speaker 7: I'll probably go medium medium. Okay, Yeah, I'm kind of
- 14:44Speaker 7: I don't know, guys, kind of give it to me
- 14:45Speaker 7: about that is.
- 14:47Speaker 4: What it is. That conversation will be aired to chorus
- 14:50Speaker 4: in our latest Meet The Crack and Drop that you
- 14:52Speaker 4: can hear each night between period one and two. Also
- 14:56Speaker 4: podcasts it via the iHeart Radio app. Ryan Winterton joining
- 15:00Speaker 4: us from the Crack and dressing room. Certainly it is
- 15:03Speaker 4: entertaining when you involve him food and Brandon Montour as
- 15:07Speaker 4: well right in the background. As far as matters for
- 15:10Speaker 4: this evening, the Crack and facing a Colorado team that
- 15:13Speaker 4: could be playing like a hornous nest certainly stirred. They
- 15:16Speaker 4: dropped a four to three loss last game out to
- 15:19Speaker 4: the Edmonton Oilers, and while they still are nursing plenty
- 15:22Speaker 4: of injuries, they still boast plenty of firepower on the
- 15:26Speaker 4: injury side. Ross Colton left the game against Edmonton upper
- 15:29Speaker 4: body injury. His status is uncleared. Logan O'Connor is still
- 15:33Speaker 4: on IR with a hip ailment. Gabriel Landscott their captain.
- 15:37Speaker 4: What do you know? He's back out hurt once again,
- 15:40Speaker 4: lower body ailment week to week, Artery Lekkin and also
- 15:43Speaker 4: nursing and upper body ailment. He is considered week to week. However,
- 15:49Speaker 4: Nathan McKinnon their top center in between Nozom Kadrie and
- 15:53Speaker 4: Martin Natchius. That former name, by the way, shous certainly
- 15:56Speaker 4: stir up some memories the Avalanche re acquiring nozom Kadria
- 16:00Speaker 4: deadline from Calgary. He was a big part of Colorado's
- 16:03Speaker 4: Stanley Cup championship run back in twenty twenty two. Brock
- 16:06Speaker 4: Nelson also reaching the thirty goal plateau look aw like
- 16:10Speaker 4: that he'll be a big part of their second line
- 16:12Speaker 4: coming up last game scene with v Larry Nachushkin also
- 16:15Speaker 4: Ross Colton opposite wing, but yet status unclear if Colton
- 16:19Speaker 4: will be able to go. On a separate note, the
- 16:22Speaker 4: Avalanche power play certainly taking plenty of their lumps here
