- 0:17to banter with the boys gridiron updates this
- 0:21will be the afc north preview i'm here with rob
- 0:25our co -host again thank you still sitting here
- 0:29Yes, yes. You invited me back. Thank you so much.
- 0:31You do not disperse from my smell. That's good.
- 0:35No lucky smelling. Well, I showered today, so
- 0:37that was good. And you wore purple, so double
- 0:39win for you. Double win. Double win. Kev behind.
- 0:43the cameras and getting everything done for us,
- 0:46edited and posted to where you're listening to
- 0:48it right now. But without further ado, Rob, let's
- 0:52just hop right in here. Let's get in it. Football,
- 0:54baby. I know AFC East, we started with the bottom
- 0:56team, or at least who we felt would be a bottom
- 1:00team. I'm going to go ahead and do it again.
- 1:02Last year, the Cleveland Browns went 3 -14. Joe
- 1:08Flacco was named the starter. The old legend.
- 1:12The defense still is not that bad, to be honest
- 1:15with you. Really? Why do you say that? I don't
- 1:19think they're that bad. I mean, you still got
- 1:21Miles Garrett in there. Mason Graham, the rookie,
- 1:24coming in. I'm curious what he's going to give
- 1:26us. Allegedly had a good camp, but so does everybody,
- 1:29right? That is true. But he was a beast in Michigan.
- 1:31I like Grant Delpit a lot. Greg Newsom II. I
- 1:34mean, the defense is still loaded for me. It's
- 1:37the offense that's the big question. But for
- 1:40me, I have a drastic change for the Cleveland
- 1:42Browns. I still have them finishing last. It's
- 1:45tied for last, actually, in the division. So
- 1:49this division, people are going to make fun of
- 1:51me. It's crazy. But this is one of the toughest
- 1:53divisions in football this year, along with the
- 1:56other North division. Cleveland, I have going
- 1:598 -9, which seems ridiculously high, right? Eight
- 2:03and nine. Yeah. I don't even know where Vegas
- 2:05has them. Are we recording this right now? Yeah,
- 2:07we are. This is recorded, right, Kev? Awesome.
- 2:09Eight and nine. I know. It sounds stupid. From
- 2:11three. I mean, there's going to be a team every
- 2:13year. I have most of the teams in this division
- 2:16splitting. with each other. I mean, this is a
- 2:19tight division. It's tough. I expect it to be
- 2:21what we expected it to be last year. You know
- 2:24who the starter is coming in. Yeah, we knew it
- 2:26was Deshaun Watson last year, but he did not
- 2:28look good. He brought everybody else down around
- 2:30him. Yes, he did. It is time to move on from
- 2:32him, whether it's Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett,
- 2:34Dylan Gabriel, Shadur. I don't care who it is.
- 2:36It is time to move on from that mistake. You
- 2:38probably got to pay him and it's fine, whatever.
- 2:40But again, Joe Flacco starting the season for
- 2:44the Cleveland Browns. How do you feel about that?
- 2:46Well, I don't feel as good as you do. I have
- 2:47a 5 -12. 5 -12. I mean, obviously, it needs QB
- 2:51play is the number one thing. They were last
- 2:53in points last year, you know, worst on close
- 2:57to the end, worst on third down. And they did
- 3:00pick up that Junkins. Who knows if he's going
- 3:03to even play this year. So that's going to really
- 3:05hurt. Is he at camp now? I thought I saw the
- 3:08thing got dropped or whatever. No, he's not in
- 3:10jail. He's not in jail. It got dropped. Almost
- 3:13positive. You got Judy back. you know you know
- 3:16he had 90 for 1200 last year so you got him on
- 3:20the outside and on the tight end defensively
- 3:24they sacked the ball well but against the run
- 3:27in the past in between those sacks they weren't
- 3:29very good so yeah they could stop the run a little
- 3:32bit better i think that'll help their secondary
- 3:34a lot so i'm just not very high on them right
- 3:37now so Fair enough, fair enough. Sorry, dog pound.
- 3:41Sorry, dog pound, he says. Yeah, no. You're in
- 3:44the dog house. Offensively, I'm looking for Jerome
- 3:46Ford to have a pretty good season as well. And,
- 3:49yeah, if Judkins can play, awesome. Another game
- 3:53-changing player at the college level. Will it
- 3:55translate? We'll see. They also picked up Isaiah
- 3:57Bond when his also charges just got dropped.
- 4:01So it'll be, you know, the first videos of him
- 4:04coming out of camp were. Just looks like a guy
- 4:07who hasn't been able to run routes for a minute.
- 4:09So I think once he gets back, you know, moving
- 4:13around a little bit, he'll be just fine. Before
- 4:15the dumpster fire starts. I don't think, see,
- 4:19and I just, I don't think there's going to be
- 4:21a dumpster fire for the Browns this year. I don't
- 4:23know what it is. I think, again, it's just, I
- 4:26think every game is going to be a battle for
- 4:29these guys. Now, they could absolutely win only
- 4:32five games. I don't. I'm not going to argue against
- 4:36that. They won't go over eight where I have them.
- 4:38All right. What's the over -under on what Kevin
- 4:44Savansky needs to win to keep his job? Ooh. Seven?
- 4:50What is that number? Yeah. I'll throw seven.
- 4:53Do you think higher or lower? Oh, he's got to
- 4:56be higher than seven to keep his job. So if he
- 4:59wins seven games, he's fired. Yeah, it's tough.
- 5:01You're in a tough division. That's a great question.
- 5:05What do you guys think? Yeah, seriously, what
- 5:08do you guys think? Is Kevin Stefanski going to
- 5:11be one of the first coaches fired this year out
- 5:13of the few that are potentially on the chopping
- 5:17block? Dable, I'm looking at you. I'm waiting.
- 5:19An 0 -4 start, would that be enough for him to
- 5:24lose his job? Let's see. The Browns, real quick.
- 5:27Versus Cincy, I have that as an L for the Browns.
- 5:30At Baltimore, that's an L. Green Bay in Cleveland,
- 5:34low key. I do have them starting. Nope, you know
- 5:38what? This is what I did. I have them losing
- 5:41to Cincy, losing to Baltimore, beating Green
- 5:43Bay at home in Cleveland, and then proceeding
- 5:46to lose to Detroit, lose to Minnesota, and then
- 5:49lose to Pittsburgh. So they could easily be 0
- 5:52-6. And then they turn it around after that for
- 5:54me. And win the rest of the games and go 10 -6.
- 5:57Then it gets slightly easier. Okay, okay. I see
- 6:00where we're going with this. They have a little
- 6:03easier second half. Like after the bye is slightly
- 6:05easier for them, for me. Well, yeah. How did
- 6:09I get eight wins out of that? That's crazy. But
- 6:11here we go. Tyler's right over there. Otherwise,
- 6:13you're gone. No doubt. You're gone. So, yeah.
- 6:16Good for you, Cleveland fans. We just gained
- 6:18some subscribers, probably. Probably. I probably
- 6:21got some haters coming. I'm going to the team
- 6:25that I have tied with them for last in the division.
- 6:27Okay. At eight and nine as well. The team that
- 6:30went ten and seven last year, the Pittsburgh
- 6:32Steelers. Obviously, we know they made a change
- 6:36at quarterback coming into this season. Big upgrade.
- 6:40Bring it on. It's really not. It's the same thing
- 6:43for me. However, however. Tell me more. If the
- 6:47defense can play at an elite level, Aaron Rodgers
- 6:52shouldn't have to do all that much. He really
- 6:55shouldn't. And Russell Wilson didn't need to
- 6:58do that much either last year, and they had some
- 7:00limited success offensively. I have him at 10.
- 7:04Fields came in and went 4 -2, I'm pretty sure.
- 7:06I have him at 10 -7. Do you feel like Aaron Rodgers
- 7:11had a bad year last year? 28 -11. I think it's
- 7:17a year where he's a veteran quarterback that
- 7:20is coming off of a major injury at Achilles.
- 7:25Still. At that age. And he did 28 -11 after that.
- 7:30Poor, and I'm not even going to dare say that
- 7:32I'm trying to compare Kirk Cousins to Aaron Rodgers,
- 7:34but look how poorly Kirk Cousins played last
- 7:37year after his Achilles. You know, I think there's
- 7:39something to be said about that. For sure. I
- 7:42think he's in line to have a better season than
- 7:45he did last year, 100%. Whether or not he, because
- 7:49Artie Smith is the OC there now, right? Yes,
- 7:51who loves to run the ball. FYI, fantasy football
- 7:54people. And wasn't he, was he the OC with Rabel
- 7:57in Tennessee? With Tannehill and all that? Then
- 8:00he got the job in Atlanta. So that's the part
- 8:03I like, because obviously they had Derrick Henry.
- 8:05You got Jalen Warren, way different running back,
- 8:08way different style. But you know you're going
- 8:10to run the ball. You add a DK Metcalf to the
- 8:13outside. I mean, I don't hate what's going on
- 8:16in Pittsburgh. Another set of tight ends. This
- 8:20seems to be a common theme right now in the AFC
- 8:22so far for us. Pat Frymuth, and they just added
- 8:25Johnny Smith. You know, it's a copycat league.
- 8:27You know, you do the same thing, the same division
- 8:30does. But my biggest thing on offense is they
- 8:33picked in the second round is Caleb Johnson from
- 8:36Iowa. You know, another, you know, so that Warner
- 8:38-Johnson run would really help with Roderick
- 8:41because his play -action game is on point, you
- 8:44know. And Austin, tight ends, you're seeing good.
- 8:47And then they had Troy Faluola was injured last
- 8:51year, so he'll be back. So their offensive line,
- 8:54you know, I think that's where they're going
- 8:57to win and lose, you know, on their floor ceiling
- 8:59of a six and whatever to a possibly, you know,
- 9:0311 -win season. Yeah, and you said what? You
- 9:06have them at 10 -7? 10 -7. Defensively, I still...
- 9:10On paper, that's a fairly elite defensive. They
- 9:14stay healthy. Darius Slay is aging. Jalen Ramsey
- 9:18is getting up there. Joey Porter Jr. is a solid
- 9:20young player. How old is Patrick Queen right
- 9:24now? You know what I mean? They are in Highsmith,
- 9:28you know, and then isn't Hayward, is he holding
- 9:31out right now? D -tackle? Is he? But they still
- 9:35got T .J. Watt, too. If he can stay healthy.
- 9:38We got to remember that guy, too. If he can stay
- 9:39healthy. Yeah, so, I mean, defensively, all their
- 9:42numbers across the board are money. Cam Hayward
- 9:45returns to practice amid contract disputes. Yep,
- 9:48so, yeah, so I'm... They'll compete for a playoff
- 9:52spot. They'll be right on the edge of a wild
- 9:54card. That's what I mean. I think this division
- 9:56as a whole can go any way other than Cleveland
- 9:59for you. Probably for me. They're last no matter
- 10:03what or tied for last is how I have them with
- 10:05the Steelers. For me, I think the next team would
- 10:11be the Cincinnati Bengals. Bengals finishing
- 10:169 -8 last year. Have a new DC coming in the door.
- 10:21I think that's going to make a lot of changes.
- 10:23Needs to. Needs to. Trey Hendrickson right now
- 10:28is in limbo. So I'm going to go ahead and say
- 10:32that the Bengals are going to finish 9 -8 again.
- 10:369 -8. Yep. I think the offense is outstanding.
- 10:39I mean, that's a dangerous offense. Obviously,
- 10:41locking up T. Higgins, you have Jamar Chase,
- 10:44arguably the second -best receiver in the league
- 10:47behind Jettas. Sometimes looking like the first
- 10:51receiver. Oh, yeah. Top receiver duo in the league?
- 10:54Yeah. I would think so. I mean, Higgins could
- 10:57be definitely number one on a lot of teams. I
- 10:59would agree 100%. 100%. Gusecki has his days
- 11:03up and down. Chase Brown I like in the backfield
- 11:06a lot, actually. He was in Illinois. He was sneaky.
- 11:09He got 54 catches, style. I think there's a lot
- 11:13to be excited about offensively for the Bengals.
- 11:16Defensively, they're not fully out of it either,
- 11:20but I think if you lose Trey Hendrickson, that's
- 11:23a big deal. Probably edge rusher last season,
- 11:28I believe. Didn't he lead the league? Yeah, Zach,
- 11:29he did. What did you have him at? Oh, did I even
- 11:34say? Oh, yeah, I did. 9 -8. Yeah, so I got him
- 11:37at 10 -7. For me, it's all about the O -line.
- 11:42They have the exact same O -line as last year.
- 11:46So the middle of the line needs to step up. And
- 11:48Joe Burrow was running for his life. Yes. Half
- 11:50the season. So they just need to play better.
- 11:53They didn't upgrade anywhere there. And the defense
- 11:55needs to step up. You know, they have a bunch
- 11:57of talent, you know, especially coming on the
- 12:00line. They end up drafting the steward out of
- 12:03Texas. You know, so. That'll help. And maybe
- 12:06he switches sides and has to play where Trey
- 12:08Hendrickson is. You're filling in for who retired
- 12:11Hubbard. Yes. Who didn't really produce at a
- 12:15high level. That's probably why he retired. It's
- 12:17more of a name. Yeah, for sure. But he had his
- 12:19moments before. A couple years ago. Yeah, right.
- 12:22No, I hear you. I hear you. Where do you have
- 12:26the Bengals? I got them at 10 -7. So they're
- 12:28right there battling with the Steelers for second
- 12:31in that division in my book. It should be interesting.
- 12:36And they got another deal. That's backed up.
- 12:38What's their head -to -head for you? Bengals
- 12:40and Steelers. Split. It is split. I'm kind of
- 12:43with you. It's a tough division. I don't think
- 12:46Cleveland will be the only team that doesn't
- 12:48split across the board like you said. Still the
- 12:54next team that we're about to talk about is...
- 12:56Bring it in. Baltimore Ravens. You have Lamar
- 13:02Jackson coming back, which I thought it was an
- 13:04MVP season over Allen. I think we both thought
- 13:08he was snubbed. He had 4 ,100 yards. He had almost
- 13:121 ,000 rushing. He had career numbers across
- 13:15the board, but I think they just got sick of
- 13:17giving it off to him. i'm big on what's messed
- 13:22up yeah i'm big on on baltimore this year i think
- 13:26they're the team that broke hot ball better you
- 13:30know they still got henderson bateman flowers
- 13:32across the board they got offensively they're
- 13:35really good kind of the same line they lost the
- 13:38left guard um uh patrick um care i think to jackson
- 13:43uh jacksonville i think and defensively still
- 13:46got smith back there their secondaries loaded
- 13:50with they picked up starks from georgia to another
- 13:53safety i like that yeah another one that the
- 13:56packers lost so they're having starks and uh
- 13:58no i'm sorry hamilton starks starks didn't leave
- 14:01the packers that's not where he came from I'm
- 14:03thinking of Eric Stokes went somewhere else.
- 14:05Yes. Starks. The old Georgia cornerback. Yeah.
- 14:08Where the heck did Starks come from? I can't
- 14:11remember. Anyway. The rookie? Oh, yes, yes. Yeah,
- 14:15I'm thinking of Stokes. He was our first -round
- 14:17pick. And they got Alexander from Green Bay.
- 14:21So their secondary is loaded. If he can stay
- 14:23on the field, he's a solid corner, very serviceable.
- 14:27For me, somebody's got to stop. Where do you
- 14:29have them finishing? Sorry, did you say? It's
- 14:31like at 10 -7. Well, wait, no, not them. Sorry,
- 14:34I didn't even say that. Ravens, Ravens. Ravens.
- 14:36They finished 12 -5 last year. 12 -5. Haven't
- 14:41met 12 and 5. And my note says team just got
- 14:44better. That's all I wrote is the overall summary
- 14:48of their team. Yeah, and I totally agree with
- 14:50you. They improved to 13 and 4 for me. I believe
- 14:54that makes them, no, I'm sorry, that makes them
- 14:56the number two, tied for the number two seed
- 14:59for me in the entire AFCs behind the Bills and
- 15:01tied with another team still to be talked about.
- 15:03But they lost. Oh, wait, they beat the Bills
- 15:05because that was one of the Bills lost, so then
- 15:07they would have the two seed. If I remember right
- 15:10with the Bills, you said that. I'm saying for
- 15:12this season. I have them behind the Bills. Yeah,
- 15:16the second seed I'm talking about. Yeah, I have
- 15:19them tied with somebody else. Oh, I got you.
- 15:21Yeah, yeah. The Bills are in my number one seed
- 15:23at 14 -3. And Baltimore's 13 -4, and there's
- 15:27another team in the next division that's also
- 15:3013 -4. But anyway. Somebody needs to stop their
- 15:35rushing attack. I mean, Derrick Henry with 1
- 15:37,900 yards. Lamar Jackson, like you said, almost
- 15:401 ,000. He's sitting at over 900 yards. Yeah,
- 15:42stop that. Good luck. So I think this is the
- 15:48year for the Ravens to make a deep run and win
- 15:51the Super Bowl. Jake, I'm telling you right now,
- 15:54Jake is one of our guests that will be back this
- 15:58season. We can't wait. Our Ravens fan. That will
- 16:01be back. I think out of the AFC, for me, this
- 16:05is the team going to the Super Bowl this season
- 16:07if they stay healthy. Yeah, they're definitely,
- 16:09in my book, the team to beat with all their new
- 16:12add -ins, and they didn't lose anybody. And Lamar
- 16:16seems to just keep getting better. I think statistically
- 16:19his yards per attempt were even better than ever.
- 16:25Lamar's back to MVP. I love that defense, too.
- 16:29Yeah, they're solid. So, yeah, I have them finishing
- 16:32up top in this division. It should be fun. I'm
- 16:37excited for it. No, I am, too. And like we said,
- 16:40probably this is I mean, AFC West tries to make
- 16:43a. a case but i think this is the toughest division
- 16:47in the afc and tied for the toughest division
- 16:50in in football this season like we said last
- 16:53year and then it kind of was weird last year
- 16:55i don't know it kind of went up and down last
- 16:56year not as dominant and black and blue as i
- 17:00kind of expected it to be and what i'm kind of
- 17:02looking for this year out of this division yeah
- 17:04the bangles were a little bit down i think i
- 17:06remember in our predictions last year so but
- 17:10bangles bounce back this year They will. They
- 17:13will. Never bounce back this year. Rob, thanks
- 17:15for being here, of course, as always, for this
