- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to Jags aam another glorious victory Monday in Duval County.
- 0:19Speaker 1: We welcome, and I'm Connannie Stevens, Brian Sexton, John Osier
- 0:22Speaker 1: with me today we're going to talk about another Jaguars win.
- 0:25Speaker 1: This one was a tough one, but they got it
- 0:27Speaker 1: done against the Colts on the road. As we near
- 0:30Speaker 1: the end of the regular season, let's get into our
- 0:32Speaker 1: big Things today, brought to you by g EH Government
- 0:34Speaker 1: Employees Health Association. Big Thing number one is a dozen.
- 0:38Speaker 1: This team gets to a dozen wins for the first
- 0:40Speaker 1: time in quite a while, and Liam Cohen says, a
- 0:43Speaker 1: lot of it goes about taking things one game at
- 0:45Speaker 1: a time.
- 0:47Speaker 2: We haven't really talked a ton about goals, about the
- 0:51Speaker 2: division playoffs, conference, super Bowl, like, we have not had
- 0:55Speaker 2: any of those conversations as a team, not really on purpose,
- 1:00Speaker 2: more so just because you're really trying to focus on
- 1:04Speaker 2: getting better because there's so much the coach off of
- 1:06Speaker 2: every week for us, and even through a lot of wins,
- 1:09Speaker 2: we're able to coach off a lot of stuff and
- 1:11Speaker 2: keeping the mindset pretty singular on want to oh each week.
- 1:14Speaker 3: That's just been the mindset of mentality that these guys
- 1:17Speaker 3: have had and I've appreciated that, and we've fed off
- 1:19Speaker 3: of each other that way.
- 1:22Speaker 1: It's just one week at a time, and they finally
- 1:23Speaker 1: got to twelve wins, Brian, and this win street continues.
- 1:26Speaker 4: To roll on twenty years since they were last a
- 1:29Speaker 4: twelve win team. And listen, coaches don't think the way
- 1:32Speaker 4: I'm about to talk, but I did not expect them
- 1:35Speaker 4: to have a dozen wins on the season, John. I
- 1:37Speaker 4: thought nine was probably a huge lift for Liam and
- 1:41Speaker 4: his staff in the first year to be where they
- 1:43Speaker 4: are right now. Coaches won't ever say this because they're
- 1:46Speaker 4: always focused on where they are and getting the job done.
- 1:49Speaker 4: But the people who are watching the show, the people
- 1:52Speaker 4: who are Jaguars fans, the people in the business side
- 1:55Speaker 4: of this equation couldn't have expected it to be where
- 1:58Speaker 4: it is right now. It's so much fun at this
- 2:01Speaker 4: time of the year to be where this team is,
- 2:03Speaker 4: and it's just it's gratifying to see what Liam Cohen
- 2:07Speaker 4: has done because I think you recall a meeting in
- 2:09Speaker 4: the spring that we were all in where he talked
- 2:11Speaker 4: about what he was going to do, and he's done it.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Yeah, they may not have thought about twolve wins because
- 2:17Speaker 5: they don't think that way. If you had made them
- 2:20Speaker 5: think that way, they wouldn't have come up with twelve
- 2:23Speaker 5: as the number.
- 2:24Speaker 6: I don't think.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Look, yesterday was a remarkable way to get to twelve wins.
- 2:29Speaker 5: I think fans of this team are now starting to
- 2:31Speaker 5: see again what it's like to be a good team
- 2:34Speaker 5: and how you have.
- 2:35Speaker 6: To get there.
- 2:36Speaker 5: They had had four or four straight fourteen point or
- 2:39Speaker 5: more wins.
- 2:40Speaker 6: You don't in the NFL.
- 2:42Speaker 5: You don't kneel at the end of every game and
- 2:45Speaker 5: you're not playing your walk ons. Sometimes they're hard, and
- 2:48Speaker 5: yesterday was hard, but they got there, and this, getting
- 2:53Speaker 5: ones like this is what eventually gets you into the
- 2:56Speaker 5: playoffs where you can peak and maybe start really go.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Let's go to our second big thing, which is runaways.
- 3:02Speaker 1: We talked about some of the frustration in that game yesterday,
- 3:05Speaker 1: some costly turnovers and just frustration in general on both
- 3:08Speaker 1: sides of the football, and complimentary football for the Jaguars
- 3:11Speaker 1: as a whole. Trevor Lawrence, though, got two rushing touchdowns,
- 3:14Speaker 1: which was good enough to help the team get a win.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Trevor talked a little bit about the frustration and battling through.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Yeah, a ton of frustration.
- 3:24Speaker 7: Not now, I guess, because you win, and that's what
- 3:26Speaker 7: you have to enjoy the wins, because that's you put in.
- 3:28Speaker 7: You put in all this work to win games, and
- 3:30Speaker 7: it's not always pretty, and I think can be looked
- 3:33Speaker 7: at as a positive. As you know, last few weeks,
- 3:35Speaker 7: we've been in control of a lot of these games
- 3:37Speaker 7: and haven't necessarily had to just go winning at the end,
- 3:41Speaker 7: and today we had to do that as a tight game.
- 3:42Speaker 7: We had to make some plays, defense had to have
- 3:44Speaker 7: some huge stops and they did it. So I think
- 3:46Speaker 7: it's it's all good for your team to learn and
- 3:48Speaker 7: grow and obviously more fun to learn and grow from wins.
- 3:53Speaker 1: John, it was frustrating to watch at times, I will admit,
- 3:56Speaker 1: but yes, it is a lot easier to learn from
- 3:58Speaker 1: a wins.
- 3:58Speaker 8: We can talk about a w and the things to
- 4:00Speaker 8: work on, not.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Just the lost.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Well, I'll go away from Trevor for a second. The
- 4:05Speaker 5: Colts are up three to nothing in the first half
- 4:07Speaker 5: and then Rivers throws the ball down the middle of
- 4:09Speaker 5: the field that the Jaguars defend. It bounces into the
- 4:12Speaker 5: air and the Colts caught the ball for the first
- 4:14Speaker 5: down win and scored right then. I said, this gonna
- 4:16Speaker 5: be one of those games where everything nothing quite went
- 4:21Speaker 5: right for the Jaguars, and then the Colts got breaks
- 4:24Speaker 5: and all of a sudden, you're playing uphill a little bit.
- 4:26Speaker 5: I thought what was impressive, Brian was once they had
- 4:28Speaker 5: to play uphill.
- 4:29Speaker 6: They got back into it.
- 4:31Speaker 5: And then in the second half you always felt like
- 4:34Speaker 5: they had a little bit of an edge.
- 4:35Speaker 6: They got it tied and they were.
- 4:37Speaker 5: Up three, and the Colts never were able to get
- 4:40Speaker 5: that advantage when you're in the division on the road.
- 4:44Speaker 5: Thank Liam said it in the Raw Ross speech after
- 4:47Speaker 5: the game. Guys, this is what it takes to win
- 4:51Speaker 5: on the road in the division.
- 4:53Speaker 6: They're never easy.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Rock, No, they're not. By the way, just to kudos
- 4:57Speaker 4: to the guy who caught that ball on the ground
- 4:59Speaker 4: providences Will Callery, the son of Mike Mallory, longtime Jaguar
- 5:02Speaker 4: special teams coordinator. I said the exact same thing. Oh,
- 5:05Speaker 4: it's going to be one of those days. And we
- 5:07Speaker 4: talked about the Colts. There's enough weapons there. Philip Rivers
- 5:10Speaker 4: may have been a statue, but I mean Alan Pearce
- 5:13Speaker 4: and Jonathan Taylor and what they can do. With Josh
- 5:16Speaker 4: Downs and Michael Pittman, we knew it was going to
- 5:18Speaker 4: be a dogfight, and then I think people maybe forgot.
- 5:22Speaker 4: Then Jack's had that emotional, powerful win in Denver, and
- 5:25Speaker 4: then two days of your week, guy, are caught up
- 5:27Speaker 4: with Christmas, even Christmas Day, and then you're going on
- 5:30Speaker 4: the road to a team that has Philip Rivers playing
- 5:33Speaker 4: for them, and they are trying to have a positive
- 5:36Speaker 4: end of the season. They fear like this is probably
- 5:38Speaker 4: that last stand they've got. So it was gonna take
- 5:41Speaker 4: everything you had and some things to go right, and
- 5:44Speaker 4: just one more thing, the complimentary football thing, John, We've
- 5:46Speaker 4: seen that for six or seven weeks. Yesterday we didn't
- 5:49Speaker 4: special teams gives up the long kickoff return, then the
- 5:52Speaker 4: defense holds, and then the offense drives down the field
- 5:55Speaker 4: and turns the ball over. Third quarter, same thing, get
- 5:58Speaker 4: the touchdown to go ahead, then you give up the
- 6:00Speaker 4: long return and then the defense gives up the eighteen
- 6:03Speaker 4: yard play and the pass interference. It wasn't in sync,
- 6:06Speaker 4: but they still want ky That's the biggest part of it.
- 6:09Speaker 4: They still won on a day that everything wasn't in
- 6:12Speaker 4: sync like it had been. The sign of a really
- 6:14Speaker 4: good team.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Is a win, is a win Our final big thing
- 6:16Speaker 1: is going to be I'll take that because we talk
- 6:18Speaker 1: about some of the.
- 6:19Speaker 8: Errors the States made.
- 6:20Speaker 1: They made the plays late when they needed to, whether
- 6:22Speaker 1: it was Jarring Jones getting a turnover, or some timely
- 6:25Speaker 1: plays or just the coaching at the end when they
- 6:28Speaker 1: figure things out. Brian, there was some frustration, but also
- 6:31Speaker 1: the takeaways when they needed it and coming up with
- 6:33Speaker 1: that big play is part of battling Drew when you're
- 6:36Speaker 1: not playing your best.
- 6:36Speaker 8: You know.
- 6:37Speaker 4: And I don't think we can overlook this story. We
- 6:38Speaker 4: can't overhype this. Last year, the defense created eight takeaways
- 6:42Speaker 4: and special teams gave them a ninth. That's it, bottom
- 6:45Speaker 4: of the barrel in the league. Jiros. The Jaguars now
- 6:48Speaker 4: have thirty takeaways, which puts them in elite company in
- 6:51Speaker 4: Jaguars history. The ninety nine, the two thousand and seven,
- 6:54Speaker 4: and the twenty seventeen teams are the only teams that
- 6:57Speaker 4: have it more than thirty. They have twenty one interceptions
- 7:00Speaker 4: on the season, second most in the league. John and
- 7:03Speaker 4: tied for the most with that twenty seventeen defense that
- 7:06Speaker 4: was so good in Jaguars history the things that they
- 7:09Speaker 4: have done by taking the bowl away, creating short fields
- 7:12Speaker 4: and extra possessions, changing the momentum of the game, as
- 7:15Speaker 4: Jarion Jones has done the last two weeks in the
- 7:18Speaker 4: fourth quarter. What an exceptional job Anthony Campinealy and this
- 7:21Speaker 4: defense have done in taking a weakness, maybe one of
- 7:24Speaker 4: the weakest spots of this team last year, and turning
- 7:27Speaker 4: it into one of the strongest points this year.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Yeah, and credit to him because they said early on
- 7:32Speaker 5: they were going to stop the run, and they've been
- 7:34Speaker 5: the best in the NFL. Is stopping the run. And
- 7:36Speaker 5: when you stop the run, what happens. You're in third
- 7:38Speaker 5: and long, you're in long distance and long distance situations
- 7:41Speaker 5: and where you get takeaways. So you know, it's easy
- 7:45Speaker 5: sometimes for people to look at a defense and he
- 7:47Speaker 5: gets a lot of takeaways and say, well, those there's
- 7:49Speaker 5: a little luck involved. Can you keep that up? Where
- 7:52Speaker 5: there's not luck involved is stopping the run, which gets
- 7:55Speaker 5: you there. So again, I think yesterday the defense of Romans,
- 8:00Speaker 5: even though it's against rivers, shouldn't be overlooked. They got
- 8:03Speaker 5: a lot of big stops, gave up two hundred yards,
- 8:05Speaker 5: got takeaways.
- 8:07Speaker 6: Good game for the defense.
- 8:08Speaker 1: On Sunday kipt Jonathan Taylor check as well, so very
- 8:11Speaker 1: impressive from the defense. Stay with us here on jag Zam.
- 8:13Speaker 1: We're going to look at the highlights after the break.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Gag fan, if you.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Want customize jigwashmurnature for your home, check out zipchare dot
- 8:28Speaker 1: com to de brouse all the customizable options. Zip chair
- 8:31Speaker 1: is furniture for fans.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Disappointing, especially when you look at the way we were
- 8:38Speaker 3: moving the ball and executing a lot of good things.
- 8:42Speaker 3: You look at that first couple of drives. He checked
- 8:47Speaker 3: out at zero and number against zero, blitz a number
- 8:49Speaker 3: of times and hit big plays, and I thought Charger
- 8:52Speaker 3: was seeing it very well. He was getting us in
- 8:54Speaker 3: and out of the right plays. We just kind of
- 8:57Speaker 3: tricked it off in the red zone a few times.
- 8:59Speaker 3: So frustrating. Can't do it. You know, we were seven
- 9:03Speaker 3: or fourteen on third down and two of five in
- 9:06Speaker 3: the red zone, so that's typically. You know, we've been
- 9:08Speaker 3: better in those situations, especially the red zone recently, and
- 9:12Speaker 3: today we weren't.
- 9:15Speaker 8: I'm back into jag Zam.
- 9:16Speaker 1: That's time coach Liam Cohen talking a little bit about
- 9:17Speaker 1: some of those red zone turnovers that were costly yesterday.
- 9:21Speaker 1: But let's get right into the highlights, because why not.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Because things were a little choppy right off the gate,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and it was one of those days where Johnny mentioned
- 9:27Speaker 1: Brian you two that you kind of felt it right
- 9:29Speaker 1: out of the gate, and john is just one of
- 9:31Speaker 1: those plays where if it works, it's really cool, and
- 9:33Speaker 1: then it didn't work, so it looks a little silly.
- 9:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think from watching again this morning,
- 9:39Speaker 5: it would have been a lot clean or Travis kind
- 9:42Speaker 5: of got bumped at the line of scrimmage, which I
- 9:44Speaker 5: think threw off Jacoby's timing trying to get him the wall.
- 9:47Speaker 6: Look, I got some emails from people that's silly.
- 9:51Speaker 5: I hate that, And I was thinking those people probably
- 9:53Speaker 5: liked the twenty five points a game for eight games league,
- 9:55Speaker 5: And yeah, and that's the sort of aggressive play. You know,
- 10:00Speaker 5: you'd say it's trickery, but this offense is all about
- 10:04Speaker 5: attacking and about getting guys in situations to win. That
- 10:09Speaker 5: was trying to get Travis in a situation where he's
- 10:11Speaker 5: one on one over.
- 10:12Speaker 6: On the left side of the field and he wins that.
- 10:15Speaker 6: So I didn't have a problem with it.
- 10:17Speaker 4: You're going after that, I didn't either, because the creativity
- 10:20Speaker 4: with which Liam works has been praised so strongly in
- 10:24Speaker 4: recent weeks, the way he designed plays. They ran this
- 10:26Speaker 4: on the practice field last week, and they ran into perfection.
- 10:29Speaker 4: I may be reading too much into it. You mentioned
- 10:31Speaker 4: that Travis got bumped at the line of scrimmage. He
- 10:34Speaker 4: also appeared as the ball was coming to lift his
- 10:36Speaker 4: head to look down the field. I thought he took
- 10:37Speaker 4: his eyes off the ball, and it's just that little
- 10:39Speaker 4: subtle thing. If he gets that ball cleanly, I think
- 10:42Speaker 4: he scores. I think he just races around the corner
- 10:45Speaker 4: and then everybody is praising Liam once again. So the
- 10:48Speaker 4: aggressiveness with Liam is not going to stop, and I
- 10:51Speaker 4: don't want it to. It's one of the big reasons
- 10:52Speaker 4: ky why they've won twelve games.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Absolutely led to a culse touchdown, so Jack's got down
- 10:57Speaker 1: a little bit early. Then Trevor gets his first rushing
- 10:59Speaker 1: tie down of the day. It was a little frustrating
- 11:01Speaker 1: to see, kind of I felt like Liam talked a
- 11:04Speaker 1: little bit about this, felt like everything was going right
- 11:06Speaker 1: on the offense, and then.
- 11:08Speaker 8: You know, things weren't quite getting there.
- 11:09Speaker 1: But Trevor still has the ability to run when he
- 11:12Speaker 1: needs to and fake up the linebacker.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Artwo favor touchdowns on the year.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Yeah, and.
- 11:18Speaker 5: It was zero passing touchdowns the interception yesterday, so the
- 11:20Speaker 5: stat line doesn't look the same. I actually came out
- 11:23Speaker 5: of this game with more confidence than I had the
- 11:28Speaker 5: last few weeks that he's getting it, because there was
- 11:31Speaker 5: nothing yesterday that made me think he wasn't seeing the field.
- 11:35Speaker 6: He was making throws.
- 11:37Speaker 5: Even the interception late in the first half, I think
- 11:39Speaker 5: the read was right. You know, it was Parker and
- 11:41Speaker 5: a linebacker. He is playing at a really high level.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Won the game yesterday. I think you can forget worrying.
- 11:50Speaker 6: About is this a one off? Is this is this whatever?
- 11:54Speaker 6: He's he's borderline in that elite group.
- 11:57Speaker 5: And I think he showed it again yesterday with the
- 11:59Speaker 5: control the offensively I'm talked about it.
- 12:01Speaker 4: Well, he listened. He ripped a couple of throws kai,
- 12:03Speaker 4: you know, over the outstretched fingers of a safety and
- 12:05Speaker 4: a linebacker and put the ball right on target. The
- 12:08Speaker 4: one to Parker in the end zone wasn't, but overall,
- 12:11Speaker 4: you still see a guy who's lifting his team.
- 12:14Speaker 5: We'll tell it this way, like in the off season,
- 12:16Speaker 5: right like we got a long way to go for
- 12:17Speaker 5: the off season. Is there any by the one that
- 12:20Speaker 5: you look at this guy and say they can build
- 12:23Speaker 5: around that, and you know a year ago you didn't
- 12:26Speaker 5: have that. So again, still, out of all the storylines,
- 12:29Speaker 5: Twelben's is great.
- 12:30Speaker 6: They've got a quarterback for a.
- 12:32Speaker 5: Long time, and it says this franchise up well for
- 12:35Speaker 5: a long time.
- 12:35Speaker 6: And I believe that more than I did even last week.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Talked a little bit about this end zone pick already.
- 12:40Speaker 1: But I think what was interesting is he hasn't thrown
- 12:42Speaker 1: one in such a long time, right, Brian, I mean
- 12:45Speaker 1: that was more. Yeah, we've seen it in the past,
- 12:47Speaker 1: and this was you know, you trust your guy park
- 12:49Speaker 1: and you think you can go get it, but he
- 12:51Speaker 1: hasn't thrown one in Somebody, listen.
- 12:53Speaker 4: You saw the one in Cincinnati in Week two, and
- 12:55Speaker 4: then he had the one in Vegas right after the
- 12:56Speaker 4: bye week, and then the little one was tipped in
- 13:00Speaker 4: up in Arizona. He's made great decisions with the ball
- 13:05Speaker 4: and that was a play that they beat Jermaine Pratt
- 13:07Speaker 4: on in the first game here, and the ball just
- 13:10Speaker 4: wasn't placed right. And credit to Pratt, you know he
- 13:13Speaker 4: watched the tape too, and he saw a chance to
- 13:15Speaker 4: make a play. I didn't I love it, but I
- 13:17Speaker 4: didn't mind it as much because he's been saying let
- 13:20Speaker 4: it rip and John, if you're going to play the
- 13:22Speaker 4: way he's playing, you're gonna have interceptions. It's just a
- 13:25Speaker 4: measure of a great quarterback that they're willing to keep
- 13:28Speaker 4: throwing the ball, and.
- 13:29Speaker 5: He is well so in the NFL out It's not
- 13:31Speaker 5: like it boys when I was a kid, where you
- 13:32Speaker 5: threw to open receivers. Now you throw to receivers in
- 13:36Speaker 5: this situation. I've got Parker on a line back, then
- 13:40Speaker 5: that's a matchup advantage. How many times your quarterbacks say
- 13:44Speaker 5: I'm going to put the ball on decision to have
- 13:46Speaker 5: my guy go make a play. Well, when you're throwing
- 13:48Speaker 5: into that every once in a while, you're going to
- 13:50Speaker 5: be a touch off with the throw, the receiver is
- 13:52Speaker 5: not gonna be able to get back around him. Very
- 13:55Speaker 5: few quarterbacks, even the great ones, have gotten their career.
- 13:58Speaker 5: They have gotten into their careers with four hundred touchdow
- 14:00Speaker 5: no interceptions.
- 14:01Speaker 6: It's rare for that to happen.
- 14:02Speaker 4: By the way, They've only lost one game, that Bengals
- 14:05Speaker 4: game where he threw an interception in the end zone,
- 14:08Speaker 4: so he kept battling and they found a way to win.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Didn't lose any confidence in one of his number one guys,
- 14:13Speaker 1: Parker Washington as well, because Parker once again had a
- 14:16Speaker 1: great day and just being that connection build, I mean,
- 14:19Speaker 1: he's really become I mean, I know we used to
- 14:21Speaker 1: call Christian Kirk kind of the safety blanket for him,
- 14:23Speaker 1: but now feels like he has a connection with park
- 14:25Speaker 1: to Washington well.
- 14:26Speaker 4: And he's the leading receiver in both catches and yards.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Who would have thought now, It's not like he's that
- 14:33Speaker 4: much further ahead than everyone else, but it speaks to
- 14:36Speaker 4: how he has carved a place for himself in this
- 14:39Speaker 4: offense and the quarterback trusts him as much as he
- 14:42Speaker 4: trusted Kobe Myers.
- 14:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I think he's made out of rubber.
- 14:45Speaker 5: In the first half, when he caught that ball and
- 14:48Speaker 5: he's eight feet in the air, he gets bounced, he
- 14:50Speaker 5: gets flipped, and he bounces up like now that happened.
- 14:54Speaker 5: He's I can't say that I expected him to be
- 14:59Speaker 5: this good, but he is showing week after week. There's
- 15:04Speaker 5: nothing fluky about Barcara Washington Hill. You compareing to Christian Kirk.
- 15:08Speaker 5: I'm not sure that that compares. I think he's surpassing
- 15:12Speaker 5: what Christian ever did in this name. And I love
- 15:14Speaker 5: Christian Kirk, don't get me wrong, but you know his
- 15:18Speaker 5: productivity and as dangerous as he is when he catches
- 15:21Speaker 5: the ball, he's turned into a real weapon.
- 15:25Speaker 4: I really thought Christian Kirk had great vision. He could
- 15:27Speaker 4: see what was in front of him. And that's what
- 15:29Speaker 4: I'm noticing from Parker. We've seen the athleticism, we've seen
- 15:31Speaker 4: the hands from we've seen the speed. We're now seeing
- 15:34Speaker 4: his vision and how he found that cut back lane
- 15:37Speaker 4: and he's found others this year and made a play
- 15:40Speaker 4: from a play.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I've talked to Parker about this too before because I
- 15:43Speaker 1: feel like at first, when he was starting out on
- 15:45Speaker 1: special teams and maybe earlier in his career, he had
- 15:48Speaker 1: to learn as things went along. And he's very appreciative
- 15:51Speaker 1: of you know, whether it's Heith farewell on special teams
- 15:53Speaker 1: or is coaching and coordinators now letting him learn, because
- 15:57Speaker 1: sometimes it's painful, sometimes it doesn't look good. There was
- 15:59Speaker 1: times when he doing punk returns and we were like
- 16:01Speaker 1: what are you doing? And now you're like, oh, he's
- 16:03Speaker 1: working it out and he gets it now, and the
- 16:06Speaker 1: ability for him to make explosive plays on this team
- 16:08Speaker 1: has really been maybe not underrated, but a huge part
- 16:11Speaker 1: of the success they've seen the past couple of weeks.
- 16:13Speaker 5: And again back to a point we've hit on the
- 16:15Speaker 5: last three or four weeks, but it really feels true
- 16:16Speaker 5: right now. Remember six weeks ago, you didn't know who's
- 16:19Speaker 5: gonna catch the ball for this tak yes or not?
- 16:21Speaker 5: Six that's wrong, but seven.
- 16:22Speaker 6: Or eighth the break.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Yeah, now you have Parker, BTJ, Britten, Strange, Child Myers.
- 16:29Speaker 5: I mean, and you're not worried when you throw Tim
- 16:31Speaker 5: Patrick in there.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Oh and by the way, you're going to get Travis
- 16:33Speaker 4: Hunter back next year. I mean, imagine if you had
- 16:36Speaker 4: him on the field right now as well.
- 16:38Speaker 5: It is an incredible job of actually seeing your personnel
- 16:44Speaker 5: for what it is rather than you thought, rather than
- 16:47Speaker 5: what you thought it was going to be, and then
- 16:48Speaker 5: maximizing that they made what was clearly a weakness in
- 16:51Speaker 5: September a strength of the offense. It's it's one of
- 16:55Speaker 5: the stories of this season.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Since Ron we were asked the question, I'm sure you
- 16:58Speaker 4: guys were too about the Jacobe Myers trade and where
- 17:01Speaker 4: it fits in Daguars history. And I thought that you
- 17:03Speaker 4: had to look at Marcel Darius in twenty seventeen when
- 17:06Speaker 4: the Jaguars traded with buffalover him and recognize what he
- 17:10Speaker 4: did to lift that defense to another level. I think
- 17:12Speaker 4: you can now say that this trade is the equal
- 17:15Speaker 4: or because it involves the quarterback, maybe the best trade
- 17:18Speaker 4: in Jaguars history.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Absolutely seems to really have unlocked a lot of different
- 17:22Speaker 1: things for them on offensive side of the ball. Let's
- 17:25Speaker 1: take a little look late we talked about Liam. He's
- 17:26Speaker 1: always going to be aggressive and go for it. Went
- 17:28Speaker 1: Ford and fourth down, John, I know you're not always
- 17:32Speaker 1: a fan of going for it. Would you've taken the
- 17:33Speaker 1: point here?
- 17:34Speaker 6: You're going forward here?
- 17:36Speaker 5: Well, they didn't get Yeah. I think Liam said it afterward.
- 17:42Speaker 5: Probably might should have kicked it, but you have Field's position.
- 17:47Speaker 5: This is the way the league plays now, and I
- 17:49Speaker 5: think he said it after the game. Yeah, in that situation, maybe,
- 17:52Speaker 5: But he also wants this team to learn that we
- 17:56Speaker 5: are going to dictate what happens in control situations with
- 18:00Speaker 5: our offense.
- 18:00Speaker 6: So I think if these decisions.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Were Willie nelly' brian and be different right, but it's
- 18:08Speaker 5: clearly a philosophical approach. This is what we're gonna be guys.
- 18:11Speaker 5: We're going to pick up the first downs in that situation.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Well, Liam talked last week as they were getting ready
- 18:15Speaker 4: to go to Denver about one on one matchups and
- 18:17Speaker 4: winning them. And you had a rookie center in Joinamanheim
- 18:19Speaker 4: against s Grover Stewart, and he needed the rookie center
- 18:22Speaker 4: to win that one on one and he didn't. I'm
- 18:25Speaker 4: not saying that play was a failure just because of him,
- 18:28Speaker 4: but that's one of the decisions you have to make.
- 18:30Speaker 4: You trust your guy, and he sent a strong message,
- 18:32Speaker 4: I don't care whether you're a rookie center or Robert Hainsey,
- 18:35Speaker 4: I'm gonna trust you to make the play. So in
- 18:37Speaker 4: that sense, I think this doesn't hurt. And of course
- 18:41Speaker 4: they didn't lose, so we didn't.
- 18:43Speaker 5: Also remember at this point there is a little bit
- 18:45Speaker 5: of gain awareness involved. The Colts were really not moving
- 18:50Speaker 5: the ball very but they had tun of yards offense,
- 18:52Speaker 5: they had two on kick returns they got him points,
- 18:55Speaker 5: So your percentage of being able to stop them and
- 18:59Speaker 5: get back in it made this less risky than had
- 19:03Speaker 5: you been playing a team like the forty nine ers
- 19:05Speaker 5: of the Bears last night, where they're scoring every possession,
- 19:08Speaker 5: I think maybe that there may have been a different
- 19:11Speaker 5: maybe a little safe for their first love.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Well, just to back that up, he went forward on
- 19:14Speaker 4: fourth down there at the end of the game, and
- 19:16Speaker 4: Trevor did find the scene and did get the three yards.
- 19:19Speaker 4: So it's consistent with who he is and how he
- 19:22Speaker 4: wants to play. And you know, we saw him make
- 19:25Speaker 4: a decision based on not taking the penalty, based on
- 19:27Speaker 4: game management and time as well.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And that's exactly what we're talking about when we see
- 19:31Speaker 1: big plays from the defense where you don't get on
- 19:33Speaker 1: fourth down come back. Jarian Jones gets an interception and
- 19:37Speaker 1: John Weed talked a little bit about Jordan Lewis being
- 19:41Speaker 1: lost for the season during pregame radio and what a
- 19:44Speaker 1: loss that is. But Jarnon jones ascension this year I
- 19:47Speaker 1: think has been more than we would have expected.
- 19:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I can't remember if I wrote it or just
- 19:51Speaker 5: thinking of last week, but Jarian his ascension where in
- 19:58Speaker 5: years past, if you he was a guy like Jordan
- 20:00Speaker 5: Lewis as a hole, there's really not a hole there
- 20:04Speaker 5: right now.
- 20:05Speaker 6: And I think it's it's.
- 20:06Speaker 5: A credit to Jordan Lewis, who we all know is
- 20:10Speaker 5: a veteran who has really worked with Jarian. I think
- 20:13Speaker 5: it's also a credit to Gian because they brought in
- 20:16Speaker 5: Jordan Lewis to play his spot and that could have
- 20:19Speaker 5: bothered a lot of guys, and jar And has played
- 20:22Speaker 5: his way into UH. He's established much more confidence than
- 20:26Speaker 5: they had in him in OTA's in training camp and
- 20:29Speaker 5: he's made two plays. Do they win these last two
- 20:32Speaker 5: games without his picks?
- 20:33Speaker 2: No?
- 20:34Speaker 4: Well, I can't say the Broncos maybe, I mean, but
- 20:36Speaker 4: but he turned. He sealed the Broncos game, and he
- 20:39Speaker 4: turned this one.
- 20:40Speaker 5: And she felt bad for him because he probably should
- 20:42Speaker 5: have scored, like away from scoring and him talking about
- 20:47Speaker 5: a pick six after a game.
- 20:48Speaker 6: Would be fun.
- 20:50Speaker 4: Everything's wrong with him? Just a thought. He's the guy
- 20:52Speaker 4: who was here last year and they've got him playing
- 20:54Speaker 4: at a higher level. How about Antonio Johnson. He's got
- 20:56Speaker 4: four interceptions, Devin Lloyd has five, but Terrek Brown by
- 20:59Speaker 4: mia Out had four PBUs yesterday passes broken up the way.
- 21:04Speaker 4: The secondary has risen despite the injuries at various times,
- 21:07Speaker 4: and they're getting production. You mentioned Jordan Lewis and Eric Murray,
- 21:11Speaker 4: but they're getting production from guys who were here. It
- 21:14Speaker 4: just speaks volumes to the coaching staff and the way
- 21:17Speaker 4: that they have taken what they had and made something
- 21:20Speaker 4: special out of it. And Jerry Jones is a glaring
- 21:22Speaker 4: example of it.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And just a little more credit to the defense getting
- 21:25Speaker 1: the stops at the end that they needed to to
- 21:27Speaker 1: win this game, because we talk we're talking about the secondary,
- 21:30Speaker 1: but also the line.
- 21:31Speaker 8: And what they've been able to do.
- 21:32Speaker 1: And I know Philip Rivers isn't running all around, but
- 21:35Speaker 1: getting a sack and then getting a stop late in
- 21:37Speaker 1: this game when it was important he needed it.
- 21:39Speaker 4: It's what this defense has been doing. They've been shutting
- 21:42Speaker 4: the door earlier in recent games, but late in yesterday's game.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Yeah, And we probably won't show it because unless they're
- 21:51Speaker 5: from seventy field goals are boring. But credit to Cam
- 21:55Speaker 5: little So now seventeen fourteen yesterday and he hits three
- 21:59Speaker 5: field goals. We tend to think of fifty three as
- 22:03Speaker 5: a gimmey.
- 22:04Speaker 6: It's not.
- 22:05Speaker 5: His last field goal was not a gimmy. If he
- 22:07Speaker 5: misses that, you're what at the fifty with eighteen seconds ago,
- 22:12Speaker 5: they have a kicker too, So I joke with camera
- 22:15Speaker 5: right now and then that obviously they never talk about
- 22:18Speaker 5: his field goals when they're in So credit him for
- 22:22Speaker 5: nailing those three in the second half because that was
- 22:25Speaker 5: a come from behind.
- 22:25Speaker 6: Field goal game.
- 22:26Speaker 8: He sets the bar too high for himself.
- 22:27Speaker 1: You know, we have high expectations, and I think those
- 22:30Speaker 1: are good things for him because it's been great to see.
- 22:32Speaker 5: So we saw over the weekend, you know in the
- 22:36Speaker 5: Texans game. Ye good kickers missing big kicks that cost games.
- 22:41Speaker 5: Cam Little didn't yesterday.
- 22:42Speaker 8: Absolutely, stay with us.
- 22:43Speaker 1: We're gonna give you our hot takes when we come
- 22:45Speaker 1: back after the break on jag Vamy.
- 22:57Speaker 8: Welcome back to jag Vam, brought to like firehouse.
- 23:00Speaker 1: We have your hot takes for you today.
- 23:06Speaker 7: Well, I'll just say we have all the confidence in
- 23:08Speaker 7: ourselves that when we play well and we execute, we
- 23:10Speaker 7: can beat anybody. So and that's all you can that's
- 23:13Speaker 7: all you can ask for. Who cares, who thinks who's
- 23:16Speaker 7: the best team this That we'll get to prove it,
- 23:18Speaker 7: you know, come next week first of all, and then
- 23:20Speaker 7: in the playoffs, you know, we we'll all get our
- 23:22Speaker 7: shot at one another. And if you keep winning, you
- 23:24Speaker 7: keep playing, so you know, don't really have an answer
- 23:27Speaker 7: for that, but I know we have a lot of
- 23:28Speaker 7: confidence in.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Our locker room.
- 23:30Speaker 8: There go DAGs.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Fans try more to ask if the Jags are the
- 23:32Speaker 1: best team in the AFC.
- 23:33Speaker 8: He says, I don't care.
- 23:34Speaker 4: I love it.
- 23:35Speaker 6: They're right in there.
- 23:36Speaker 5: I mean, and that's where I think any team the
- 23:38Speaker 5: AFC right now, there's what seven and that group looks
- 23:41Speaker 5: like you know who's gonna make it. I'd say all
- 23:45Speaker 5: of them could be the best team.
- 23:48Speaker 6: It's wide open.
- 23:48Speaker 8: That's why we play the games. Brian, what is your
- 23:51Speaker 8: hot take?
- 23:51Speaker 4: First, you want to clap me on the back and
- 23:53Speaker 4: patent me for being right, but you might remember it's
- 23:55Speaker 4: a tember. My hot take was that the Jaguars pulling receipts. Yeah, right,
- 23:59Speaker 4: the Jaguars defense was going to join these nineteen ninety nine,
- 24:03Speaker 4: two thousand and seven, in twenty seventeen teams as having
- 24:08Speaker 4: thirty takeaways. They had thirteen in the first four games.
- 24:11Speaker 4: And so I went out on a limb with a
- 24:12Speaker 4: hot take intaid they're going to get thirty, and they've
- 24:14Speaker 4: got thirty. So with that, I say that they're going
- 24:17Speaker 4: to get three on Sunday against cam Ward, the rookie quarterback,
- 24:22Speaker 4: and they are going to tie the twenty seventeen team
- 24:27Speaker 4: for most takeaways in Jaguars history. It's a reach because
- 24:30Speaker 4: cam Ward has eight touchdowns and only two interceptions in
- 24:33Speaker 4: the last four games when he's played so well. He's
- 24:36Speaker 4: been very careful with the ball. Back of last three weeks,
- 24:38Speaker 4: he has six touchdowns and no interceptions. But I just
- 24:42Speaker 4: think that this Jaguars defense is opportunistic. They've proven it
- 24:45Speaker 4: all year, and I say they're going to go out
- 24:47Speaker 4: on Sunday and get three takeaways, maybe four, and be
- 24:50Speaker 4: the team that is the most takeaways in Jaguars history
- 24:54Speaker 4: a year after having only nine.
- 24:56Speaker 6: Oh surprise you usually so humble.
- 24:58Speaker 4: I will, sitting next to you will do that too. Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 5: It's been impressive. That is I've clearly been a defining trait.
- 25:06Speaker 5: And I think what has been impressive is what you're
- 25:08Speaker 5: talking about. There's been teams year around that start off
- 25:11Speaker 5: with hot takeaways and then teams figure out, okay, that's
- 25:15Speaker 5: what they do, and it's hard to keep that going,
- 25:19Speaker 5: and the Jaguars haven't kept up that pace. But if
- 25:22Speaker 5: you think about since even that stretch They've gotten to
- 25:25Speaker 5: make key times, They've gotten them in big moments, and
- 25:28Speaker 5: they have established themselves as a team that's good at that,
- 25:32Speaker 5: not just a team that started that way hot.
- 25:35Speaker 6: I went a little more general.
- 25:39Speaker 5: This game was not as impressive score wise as the
- 25:45Speaker 5: last four, but I thought it.
- 25:47Speaker 6: Was as good considering the circumstances. It's really easy to.
- 25:51Speaker 5: Forget how hard it is going on the road in
- 25:55Speaker 5: the division and beating a team a second time, because
- 25:59Speaker 5: the team what worked three weeks ago often doesn't work
- 26:05Speaker 5: as well the next time around, And especially yesterday, Once
- 26:09Speaker 5: you got a couple of breaks against you early and
- 26:11Speaker 5: you're playing uphill, it's hard to get back the way
- 26:15Speaker 5: they did it sort of climb the ladder back into
- 26:17Speaker 5: it and then stabilize and still weren't getting easy stuff.
- 26:22Speaker 5: The more ways you can win, and they're showing they
- 26:25Speaker 5: can win that way too, and it's the sign of
- 26:27Speaker 5: a really mature, good team.
- 26:28Speaker 4: They hadn't had a close win in a month, right,
- 26:31Speaker 4: They'd had a fourteen point lead for the entire fourth
- 26:33Speaker 4: quarter of the last three games, so this toe felt
- 26:37Speaker 4: like one of those games. You know, Houston sharpened them.
- 26:39Speaker 4: I think we all can agree they haven't lost sense.
- 26:42Speaker 4: This is the kind of game that can give them
- 26:44Speaker 4: a little edge, It can bring them back, it can
- 26:47Speaker 4: get them ready because close games are the order of
- 26:50Speaker 4: the day when you get.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Into the playoffs, and it was a close game where
- 26:52Speaker 5: you didn't need a miracle. Like the Raiders and the
- 26:55Speaker 5: Cardinals both sort of felt those are the last two
- 26:58Speaker 5: close wins. They both sort of felt hectic, like you know,
- 27:03Speaker 5: it was gonna be a coin flip. Whatever happened at
- 27:04Speaker 5: the end this one, when they got that lead and
- 27:08Speaker 5: got control of it, it sort of kept control and
- 27:11Speaker 5: kept sort of strangling and eventually sort of war them out.
- 27:15Speaker 5: So I thought this one was an impressive NFL win.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Guy interrupted you, No, you're good. I think I'm on
- 27:21Speaker 1: the same page with you.
- 27:22Speaker 4: Guys.
- 27:22Speaker 1: This is what I call a gut check kind of win,
- 27:24Speaker 1: because when we talk about the way they have been
- 27:26Speaker 1: winning has been by blowing teams out. You go to Roads,
- 27:29Speaker 1: take on the Broncos a huge high. This was an
- 27:31Speaker 1: opportunity for you know, Christmas comes by trap game vibes.
- 27:35Speaker 1: When you look start looking ahead, you clinched a playoff
- 27:37Speaker 1: spot and you come out you don't look great and
- 27:40Speaker 1: all those kind of weird wonky players are going against you.
- 27:42Speaker 1: That is a game that can easily slip away. But
- 27:45Speaker 1: that's when you need to kind of reflect, go back
- 27:47Speaker 1: into this and be like, no, we're going to find
- 27:48Speaker 1: a way to win this game, John, you and I
- 27:51Speaker 1: talk a lot about when you watch good teams, they
- 27:53Speaker 1: don't they aren't always playing their best, but they find
- 27:55Speaker 1: a way to win. And that's what we saw them
- 27:57Speaker 1: do on the road against a divisional opponent and a
- 27:59Speaker 1: tough in a game that they needed to kind of
- 28:02Speaker 1: continue and hopefully get a win in the AFC South.
- 28:04Speaker 1: And when you look going into the playoffs, the most
- 28:07Speaker 1: dangerous teams to me are the teams that are playing
- 28:09Speaker 1: like this right now. So US and the Houston Texans.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Are they winning pretty all the time? Absolutely not. Are
- 28:14Speaker 1: they finding a way to do it? Yes, those are
- 28:16Speaker 1: the teams that are dangerous to me. The Patriots have
- 28:18Speaker 1: a very, uh not easy schedule, but they've played against
- 28:22Speaker 1: some lighter opponents as of recent So when you go
- 28:25Speaker 1: up against some of the best and you see what
- 28:27Speaker 1: your team is gonna look like, whether it's the Texans
- 28:29Speaker 1: going as the Chargers or the jag taking on the Broncos,
- 28:31Speaker 1: you know what your team has, and you find a
- 28:33Speaker 1: way to win. And that's the team I wanna be
- 28:35Speaker 1: backing when you head into the postseason. So that's my
- 28:37Speaker 1: hot take for us today. And I don't know if
- 28:39Speaker 1: that's blazing hot, but I was happy to see them
- 28:41Speaker 1: kind of get that gut check and find a way
- 28:43Speaker 1: to win.
- 28:44Speaker 4: H Listen the moment that you have where you can
- 28:46Speaker 4: get into the room and teach and really teach hard. Uh.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Heath Farewell had his s. His special team shooters have
- 28:52Speaker 4: been outstanding all year long. He's probably been looking for
- 28:55Speaker 4: a moment like this. Not that he wanted to give
- 28:56Speaker 4: up two fifty yard returns, but man, he can really
- 28:58Speaker 4: go in there and grind and these guys, he can
- 29:01Speaker 4: expect that these guys will respond.
- 29:02Speaker 5: Yeah. For Jaguars fans, think about your yesterday s game
- 29:05Speaker 5: like this, How many years, last fifteen years have you watched.
- 29:08Speaker 6: A team like the Patriots or the Chiefs and.
- 29:10Speaker 5: In December you see them down early on your score tracker,
- 29:14Speaker 5: You're like, they're gonna figure out a way to win that. Yeah,
- 29:17Speaker 5: and you look up and they've won twenty to thirteen,
- 29:20Speaker 5: and nobody really knows how Jaguars are turning into one
- 29:23Speaker 5: of those teams and when you watch them, they can
- 29:26Speaker 5: be very stressful, but that's how you get there.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Stay well, us will sell you what's coming up the
- 29:31Speaker 1: rest of the week as we enter the final week
- 29:33Speaker 1: of the regular season. The upcoming Jaguars Titans regular season Finale,
- 29:47Speaker 1: presented to you by Ticketmaster, the official ticket marketplace of
- 29:49Speaker 1: the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 29:57Speaker 9: Whoa well, well win well guys, So proud of you.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Those games are never an easy meant those games are
- 30:11Speaker 3: never easy.
- 30:12Speaker 6: Going on the road in the division. All that doesn't
- 30:15Speaker 6: matter you guys, just step up and continue to win.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Continue to win.
- 30:20Speaker 4: That's all that matters.
- 30:21Speaker 5: Men.
- 30:22Speaker 3: Continue to win and find ways to win.
- 30:25Speaker 6: That's what it's about.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Well exasperated, how's that feel? But they still got to win.
- 30:30Speaker 1: Nim Cohen says he's so proud of everyone. Makes me
