- 0:00Speaker 1: Okay, So how big is the party down in Lincoln
- 0:02Speaker 1: for the Carpetland baseball team.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Yeah, congratulations, what a run snapping that streak of Nebraska teams.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I'm coming up short and taking on the World Series championship.
- 0:14Speaker 2: But they were down I believe six to.
- 0:17Speaker 1: One in that game, yep, and rally and came back.
- 0:20Speaker 1: But what was lost in the championship game, Shoto, is
- 0:24Speaker 1: that they played four consecutive elimination games in the Legion
- 0:29Speaker 1: Regional in forty eight hours. That's unbelievable to get to
- 0:33Speaker 1: the World Series. So that had to be easy for
- 0:35Speaker 1: him compared to the regional up in North Dakota, and that.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Generally is one of the tougher regionals if I'm not mistaken.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It is so a terrific day for Lincoln and a
- 0:44Speaker 1: terrific day for Legion Baseball as the Lincoln team captures
- 0:48Speaker 1: number one last night. Now to football offensive line, and
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm going to get to kid Peeper in a minute,
- 0:53Speaker 1: because I'm still mad about that. But let's visit about
- 0:56Speaker 1: the guys that are here, and that is in particular
- 1:00Speaker 1: HUNNERD Gatula, who people had pretty much written off because
- 1:03Speaker 1: of his injuries, but is this guy going to really
- 1:05Speaker 1: win the starting right tackle job.
- 1:08Speaker 2: You know, yesterday Treat Babolade was actually out when we
- 1:11Speaker 2: were in there for the short twenty minute window of practice.
- 1:15Speaker 2: But yet Gunner today, right now they played a game,
- 1:18Speaker 2: would be the guy. From what I understand, he has
- 1:22Speaker 2: come back in great shape. He's added muscle. I think
- 1:25Speaker 2: he's put the time in the weight room, and you know,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I think he's turned some head. So that is probably
- 1:31Speaker 2: if you're like ranking position battles, that one, along with
- 1:34Speaker 2: maybe that other cornerback spot opposite of Andrew Marshall, probably
- 1:38Speaker 2: there two of the more competitive ones along with running back.
- 1:42Speaker 2: But Gunner I think has definitely turned some heads and
- 1:46Speaker 2: put himself in a position to win that job.
- 1:49Speaker 1: If you have multiple injuries as an offensive lineman, it
- 1:52Speaker 1: can be really hard. But apparently this guy really felt
- 1:56Speaker 1: strongly about his ability and it hasn't It hasn't slowed
- 1:59Speaker 1: him down outs on a very experienced offensive line. Is
- 2:03Speaker 1: this number correct, Sean that between the top eight players
- 2:07Speaker 1: on the offensive line, they have seventy three hundred snaps.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you look at Brendon Black three years
- 2:13Speaker 2: started Iowa State, Paul and Benga started several games, Babe
- 2:17Speaker 2: Lade had started several games, Pritchett was a starter for Alabama,
- 2:21Speaker 2: and Evans has started a lot, and then two of
- 2:23Speaker 2: us started a lot. So you have six people on
- 2:26Speaker 2: that group that have played a lot and started when
- 2:31Speaker 2: you break down the numbers, and it was kind of
- 2:33Speaker 2: similar last year. The difference was corporated in Prohosca where
- 2:36Speaker 2: two of those guys and they had such injury history
- 2:39Speaker 2: and that came to fruition again last year where they
- 2:42Speaker 2: just couldn't get those guys healthy to play, and the
- 2:45Speaker 2: line didn't really have the year you wanted to, especially
- 2:49Speaker 2: when you go back to some of those games with
- 2:50Speaker 2: the nine sacks and whatnot. But some of that two
- 2:53Speaker 2: could be paid on the quarterback and decision making in
- 2:55Speaker 2: the pocket. But yet this group moves better and it's
- 3:00Speaker 2: a more athletic group, no question.
- 3:02Speaker 1: All right, let's visit about Tyke Hayes. What happened to
- 3:05Speaker 1: Tyke Hayes. We barely knew you.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's I mean, there was no legal or arrest
- 3:12Speaker 2: type situation, just some things behind the scenes where you know,
- 3:17Speaker 2: it didn't work out. And on Monday when he was dismissed.
- 3:22Speaker 2: That's really all I can say on the record from
- 3:26Speaker 2: what I've gathered, but it just wasn't a fit. He
- 3:29Speaker 2: had been here for a month. It's kind of like
- 3:31Speaker 2: me and a girl in a month and getting married,
- 3:33Speaker 2: and he realized, you know what, there's a lot of
- 3:34Speaker 2: things we didn't know about you, right, And I think
- 3:38Speaker 2: those things came to fruition where you know what, this
- 3:41Speaker 2: is not going to work. And from the sounds of it,
- 3:44Speaker 2: Iowa Western may not even to be taking him back.
- 3:46Speaker 2: So I don't know where Tykey Hayes lands because I
- 3:49Speaker 2: guess in Iowa Western already knew that. You know, he's
- 3:52Speaker 2: a talented player, no quick, because he carried the ball
- 3:55Speaker 2: gym in the scrimmage Saturday. It wasn't like he was
- 3:57Speaker 2: not doing anything. He took and look good Saturday. I'm
- 4:02Speaker 2: not gonna say he's gonna be a starter, but he
- 4:04Speaker 2: was on a path to, you know, make some noise
- 4:06Speaker 2: in the future. So there are just some things that
- 4:09Speaker 2: happened behind the scenes that you know, this thing's not
- 4:12Speaker 2: working in We're gonna go in another direction.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, when you leave Penn State for junior college, even
- 4:18Speaker 1: though your great uncle is on the staff that says
- 4:22Speaker 1: there may be some off the field issues that need
- 4:24Speaker 1: to be addressed. Speaking of off the field, Caid Peeper
- 4:30Speaker 1: was not a sleeper as a Norfolk Catholic athlete, So
- 4:34Speaker 1: walk us through this one Seano. He's a preseason consensus
- 4:38Speaker 1: All American. He's the number one offensive lineman in the country.
- 4:41Speaker 1: He's on every preseason list. He's at Iowa. How did
- 4:45Speaker 1: Nebraska ignore this guy? Or what happened? Given his brother
- 4:49Speaker 1: was also you know, a standout? What happened with Caid Peeper?
- 4:52Speaker 1: Why is he not a Nebraska Cornhusker?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you look at Norfolk Catholic. They have three different
- 4:58Speaker 2: offensive linemen on Big ten rosters. Nolan Fantasy is a
- 5:02Speaker 2: walk on here, and they've got a kid as well
- 5:05Speaker 2: at Northwestern, a scholarship lineman, and then Kate Peeper, so
- 5:08Speaker 2: they just him been pumping him out there. He was undersized,
- 5:13Speaker 2: like weight wise, you know, he's like two fifty ish
- 5:15Speaker 2: in high school, so he wasn't a developed product. But
- 5:20Speaker 2: he was a phenomenal athlete. I mean, I believe he
- 5:22Speaker 2: threw the shot put over sixty foot or close to
- 5:26Speaker 2: sixty foot, and he was you know, in terms of
- 5:29Speaker 2: all the other things you want to see had the tools,
- 5:32Speaker 2: but this year classic Iowa guy. They they know in
- 5:35Speaker 2: their program they have the ability to kind of in
- 5:39Speaker 2: the track record to wait a guy out two three
- 5:41Speaker 2: years to develop, and their fan base and the where
- 5:45Speaker 2: their programs that they get away, they can do it
- 5:48Speaker 2: where you know, a lot of schools now there's so
- 5:50Speaker 2: much pressure on the head coach. Taking two hundred and
- 5:53Speaker 2: fifty pounds offensive lineman is not necessarily Norton because you're
- 5:57Speaker 2: you're trying to find guys that can contribute immediately. Well,
- 6:00Speaker 2: they obviously played the long game and they've got an
- 6:03Speaker 2: All American out of it.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Yeah, first round draft choice at a position where Nebraska
- 6:08Speaker 1: has really struggled for the last twenty years. All right,
- 6:10Speaker 1: big guy, thank you very good. We'll have Shanno back
- 6:12Speaker 1: on Friday.
