Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Homewark review podcast. I'm
- 0:25Speaker 2: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. Today we are
- 0:28Speaker 2: discussing The Chicken Sisters Season two, Episode five, No Trespassing y'all.
- 0:33Speaker 2: For our Chicken Sisters reviews, I have been joined by
- 0:35Speaker 2: a rotating cast of lovely co hosts to recap and
- 0:38Speaker 2: review each episode, and this week I am so lucky
- 0:41Speaker 2: to be joined by the women behind the Suspenders Unbuttoned podcasts,
- 0:44Speaker 2: Sarah and Julie. Thank you for being.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Here, Thank you for having us. This will be fun.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I thanks un up to join you and talk about
- 0:52Speaker 1: this episode of The Chicken Sisters and whatever else.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Well, speaking of the whatever else at all. As fellow
- 1:01Speaker 2: Hallmark podcasters, I feel like we're in the calm before
- 1:03Speaker 2: the countdown to Christmas storm. How are you too feeling
- 1:08Speaker 2: about the coming season.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Honestly, I haven't given it too much thought yet.
- 1:14Speaker 1: We may have a big weekend ahead of us and
- 1:17Speaker 1: we need to get past that. First. We'll be in
- 1:19Speaker 1: Vancouver for the One Calls a Heart Fan event.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Oh that's amazing.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yeah, So once we get past that, we'll probably start
- 1:29Speaker 3: thinking about well, we can't really let's wait and see
- 1:33Speaker 3: what they that they dry.
- 1:34Speaker 2: You can't really plan for what you don't know yet,
- 1:36Speaker 2: I know, And.
- 1:37Speaker 1: What are we planning for people? Because it's still.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Then you can do until that final announcement comes out.
- 1:45Speaker 1: So sometimes you just randomly do other stuff in the
- 1:47Speaker 1: middle of the Christmas stuff anyways.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Because yeah, yeah, because you can control that a little
- 1:53Speaker 2: bit more, right, right.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and since we don't review, yeah, we have a
- 1:58Speaker 3: little bit more freedom there too, kind of.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Yeah, schedule your interviews that way, right, So let's talk
- 2:03Speaker 2: the Chicken Sisters. Our co hosts have had a variety
- 2:09Speaker 2: of different levels of experience with the show, So I'd
- 2:11Speaker 2: love to hear your experience with season one, if you
- 2:14Speaker 2: watched it at all, where you are with season two.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Just some general thoughts.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I watched season one and I'm caught up with this.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I think I actually missed episode I might have missed
- 2:27Speaker 1: episode three. I'm I'm trying to decide that this morning.
- 2:31Speaker 3: Fun maybe you missed it. So we actually started on
- 2:35Speaker 3: The Chicken Sisters pretty early. We we had these big
- 2:39Speaker 3: plans to do a book club because we've done that
- 2:41Speaker 3: in the past. So we read the book, and then
- 2:45Speaker 3: we sort of dropped the ball on that. I think
- 2:47Speaker 3: we were really that interested in it, but we did
- 2:52Speaker 3: watch We did watch it and are up to date.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, Now is it a show that you like or
- 2:59Speaker 2: is it a show that we are watching because, like
- 3:04Speaker 2: you want to be a Hallmark completionist.
- 3:06Speaker 3: I had no interest in watching season two. When you've
- 3:10Speaker 3: reached out to us, I was like, of course, sure,
- 3:12Speaker 3: let's do this. And I've been watching them as they
- 3:15Speaker 3: get dropped in the account and I will say season
- 3:17Speaker 3: two is better than season one. I agree, but it's
- 3:21Speaker 3: not something I'm excited about.
- 3:23Speaker 2: It's not appointment television for you.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I will get at it. Every episode has some things
- 3:28Speaker 1: that I just really like, and then it feels like
- 3:32Speaker 1: the Hits and the Missus are on big ends of
- 3:35Speaker 1: each other in the episode.
- 3:36Speaker 2: So well, we're definitely going to talk about that in
- 3:38Speaker 2: this episode. First, we'll take a quick break and we're
- 3:40Speaker 2: going to come right back with our first impression. All right,
- 3:51Speaker 2: Sarah and Julie, I would love to hear your first
- 3:53Speaker 2: impressions of episode five of The Chicken Sisters.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Okay, I have a first impression for what is and
- 4:00Speaker 1: maybe what isn't meant to be.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Like it deep, I'm just like, is Daddy sketchy?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yes? Yes, I do believe. So. My first impression is
- 4:14Speaker 2: this episode makes me feel like burning my bra in
- 4:17Speaker 2: a women can Do anything moment malade.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I will say that in the when I first started watching,
- 4:24Speaker 3: I sent a text to Julie and said, the best
- 4:27Speaker 3: thing about the Chicken Sisters is the rhiannon.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah, that was really fun last episode. I loved that.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I think unfortunately, I think that's all we're gonna get.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I mean, unfortunately for Homewark watchers, not unfortunately for the storyline.
- 4:40Speaker 2: In my opinion, I feel like she served her purpose
- 4:43Speaker 2: in the cuter role. Yeah great, All right, well, Julie,
- 4:46Speaker 2: you said you have as many highs as you have lows,
- 4:49Speaker 2: So why don't you start by telling us what you
- 4:50Speaker 2: liked about this episode?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Oh, you know what? I like the the lies Jar
- 4:55Speaker 1: scene just uh well, multiple reasons. It's just got some
- 5:03Speaker 1: really great tension, that romantic tension that you just want
- 5:08Speaker 1: the chemistry between them. And I'm gonna say it, the
- 5:12Speaker 1: the acting in that scene was really great. That's sometimes
- 5:17Speaker 1: a miss for me in this series, and that scene
- 5:21Speaker 1: came through like and wait, in all the ways you
- 5:24Speaker 1: wanted to to an actor. Rivera is like one of
- 5:28Speaker 1: our faves. We have had him on the podcast in
- 5:31Speaker 1: the past, and he's an absolutely gem of a person.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Besides so, I'm probably the most talented person ever.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I mean, if you don't know about his painting.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Beautiful artist Lynn Man did not know that.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Lyn Manuel Miranda uh had him paint the Cheetah rivera
- 5:50Speaker 1: lifetime Achievement mural that is the size of a garage
- 5:55Speaker 1: for like, oh my goodness, we had him on our
- 5:57Speaker 1: podcast and because yeah, I'm not going to act for
- 5:59Speaker 1: a while, I'm gonna paint and we're like, like, what
- 6:02Speaker 1: are you gonna paint? And then that came out. If
- 6:05Speaker 1: you go dive his instagram, go dive his intertestagram, there's
- 6:08Speaker 1: so many amazing posts, including how he painted it. His
- 6:13Speaker 1: painting is I can't even tell you there's a reason
- 6:17Speaker 1: Lynn Manuel Miranda chose him to paint this incredibly important painting.
- 6:25Speaker 3: It's stunning, absolutely stun and not to mention, like speaking
- 6:30Speaker 3: of Lynn the Into the Heights, he was their star
- 6:34Speaker 3: for I think was it in Porto.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Lead Fort So just a.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Mega talented I really.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Love him in this show but I love that story
- 6:46Speaker 2: about him. That's a great story. Sarah, what about you?
- 6:49Speaker 2: What did you love about this episode?
- 6:51Speaker 3: I will also say the lie jar was top of
- 6:53Speaker 3: my list. Feel like, again, like Julie said that, the
- 6:56Speaker 3: acting was really good. I kind of like how they
- 6:58Speaker 3: had Sergio just kind of standing there and watching her
- 7:02Speaker 3: and not responding, like there wasn't really a response except
- 7:05Speaker 3: for his eyes. So I enjoyed that. I also, I
- 7:09Speaker 3: think I overall really enjoyed the message of empowerment. You
- 7:14Speaker 3: can do hard things. I'm not a single mom, but
- 7:17Speaker 3: my husband travels often, so I do really understand that
- 7:20Speaker 3: feeling of knowing like you've got to be the one
- 7:23Speaker 3: to do it and you can't depend on somebody else.
- 7:26Speaker 3: You have to know how to do everything. So I
- 7:28Speaker 3: appreciated that about the episode as well.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I agree with you, these women are all coming into
- 7:33Speaker 2: their own and I'm so glad to see it. I
- 7:36Speaker 2: was a little bit worried that we were going to
- 7:38Speaker 2: wait all the way until we get to the wedding
- 7:40Speaker 2: and just have this like episode eight of like reveal
- 7:42Speaker 2: after reveal after reveal, and I'm so glad we're getting
- 7:46Speaker 2: some of these big moments out of the way. Look,
- 7:49Speaker 2: Amanda is finally taking a little control over her life.
- 7:52Speaker 2: She signs the divorce papers. She's stepping forward. Goodbye Dudley, goodbye.
- 7:57Speaker 2: My notes say in all caps, I'm just that was
- 8:00Speaker 2: short lived. I'm glad to be moving on to the
- 8:02Speaker 2: next thing there and then not so forcefully in all caps,
- 8:07Speaker 2: but goodbye bo. We had seen the writing on the
- 8:10Speaker 2: wall there. We knew that this was not a perfect
- 8:12Speaker 2: fit for Nancy, and that she needed to live for
- 8:16Speaker 2: herself and make choices for herself. And so I loved
- 8:19Speaker 2: the parallel storylines of Nancy and Frankie realizing they were
- 8:22Speaker 2: both in relationships that did not serve them. The grandmother
- 8:26Speaker 2: granddaughter relationship was really sweet supporting each other through that.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I loved that parallel editing there as well.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and it was I I thought they were both like,
- 8:36Speaker 1: they weren't horrible people, and they weren't horrible relationships. They
- 8:40Speaker 1: just were not It's okay to end a relationship that
- 8:46Speaker 1: isn't actually where your heart is.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I think that's so important because so many of the
- 8:50Speaker 2: men in the show are terrible. Frank Jr. Frank Senior,
- 8:54Speaker 2: I'm going to say I think Clayton is not all that.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Actually a lot of the men in the history of
- 9:00Speaker 2: Marynac and so we've kind of been conditioned that, Okay, yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 2: you should relieve these terrible relationships, but even good guys
- 9:07Speaker 2: don't warrant staying in a relationship if it's not the
- 9:10Speaker 2: relationship for you.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Exactly, And I think that's what these two stories they paralleled.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And also didn't like trash on the guys right like
- 9:19Speaker 1: they were. Really these are great guys. I'm like that
- 9:22Speaker 1: Will Dudley. He's sweet as can be, but he who
- 9:27Speaker 1: really loves that He's just not Lindsay.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yes, he's just not Lindsey. Where are you guys on
- 9:33Speaker 2: the Frankie Lindsay relationship train?
- 9:37Speaker 3: I don't even know if I'm anywhere. I don't think
- 9:41Speaker 3: it's stayed with me.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I feel like it's going like it's going to be
- 9:45Speaker 1: drawn out for a long time.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I kind of feel like we're building towards that.
- 9:49Speaker 2: I wasn't sure if they were going to go there,
- 9:50Speaker 2: but I do feel like we might see at least
- 9:53Speaker 2: the two of them admitting their feelings for each other.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It feels like there's no way it's Lindsay feelings for
- 10:00Speaker 2: Frankie feel very obvious to me, especially in the first
- 10:04Speaker 2: kiss episode. Yeah, so I'd be shocked if we don't
- 10:08Speaker 2: get a little resolution on that this season.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah, and you know, you made a point earlier about
- 10:13Speaker 3: how some of these storylines could You were worried they
- 10:16Speaker 3: would wait until the end of the season. So the
- 10:19Speaker 3: fact that we got it now, it kind of gives
- 10:21Speaker 3: me hope that all those other storylines will become a
- 10:25Speaker 3: bigger part of the story maybe, Yeah, to watch them.
- 10:29Speaker 3: You know something else I really like too is the
- 10:31Speaker 3: conversation with Amanda in May when May was encouraging Amanda.
- 10:36Speaker 3: It's like, you know, you've got to who did this?
- 10:38Speaker 3: You fix my bachelorette party? When they're kind of going on.
- 10:41Speaker 3: I thought that was a nice scene, especially, you know,
- 10:46Speaker 3: watching them fight all last season, so it was It's
- 10:49Speaker 3: fun to see that relationship keep changing.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Sister sister hype your hype person is a big change
- 10:57Speaker 1: for them, right, So the first season, neither of them
- 11:01Speaker 1: were hyping each other up, and you know, that's a
- 11:05Speaker 1: wonderful spot for them to be moving into as they
- 11:10Speaker 1: true that sisters be each other's hype person.
- 11:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we see that a lot in this episode Women
- 11:15Speaker 2: Supporting Women and I'm glad the sisters are on the
- 11:17Speaker 2: same team. Kind of humorous to me, it's like a
- 11:20Speaker 2: little bit of a wink and a nod. Gus is
- 11:23Speaker 2: so nice to everybody after rekindling with Clayton. She's not
- 11:27Speaker 2: not in May when she turns up late. Even Sean
- 11:29Speaker 2: is like, what is happening here? And I love how
- 11:33Speaker 2: they're telling us without telling us, like what's going on
- 11:35Speaker 2: with Gus. It kind of makes what comes a little
- 11:38Speaker 2: bit later even more heartbreaking because she has that like
- 11:42Speaker 2: glow of love on her in the beginning of this.
- 11:46Speaker 2: But you also.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Feel like there's always this like this feels fake, you know,
- 11:53Speaker 1: like this is not what is happening here. It's all
- 11:56Speaker 1: too easy, Like this, Yeah, it's all too easy, And
- 11:59Speaker 1: we're going to go on a date and we're going
- 12:01Speaker 1: to go and we're gonna look pretty, and but it's
- 12:05Speaker 1: you don't You don't feel the emotions there. You feel
- 12:08Speaker 1: like they're acting the part right.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I have been suspicious of Clayton since he came on screen,
- 12:12Speaker 2: and some people have been like, no, I want to
- 12:14Speaker 2: believe that he's good. I'm like, there are too many
- 12:17Speaker 2: questions here and I love that May finally asked them
- 12:19Speaker 2: in this episode. That kind of moves into my wishes,
- 12:22Speaker 2: but I wanted to make sure we've covered everyone's likes first. Yeah, yeah,
- 12:28Speaker 2: all right, let's talk wishes. Why did you think wish
- 12:31Speaker 2: would happen in this episode? Trouble with this episode?
- 12:34Speaker 3: I wished that there was less Frank Junior.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Oh, that's always my wish.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Jean's thought is so good at the guy that you
- 12:45Speaker 3: just can't stand. Like, he's so nuanced in that you
- 12:48Speaker 3: got to give him a lot of credit. But yeah,
- 12:50Speaker 3: I kept saying, like in the book, there was no Franks,
- 12:54Speaker 3: he was dead. Why.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Yeah. My co host last week, Aaron, she like, remember
- 13:00Speaker 2: how Frank Junior was dead in the book. I miss that.
- 13:04Speaker 1: But I'm going to say I have never gotten over
- 13:08Speaker 1: that he's not dead. It's always just like, well, like
- 13:12Speaker 1: all of her relationship problems, that is one of the
- 13:15Speaker 1: founding pieces of it is that her husband is dead, right,
- 13:19Speaker 1: Like that's part of a man's inability to connect with
- 13:21Speaker 1: people Like so I always I'm always like, can he
- 13:25Speaker 1: go away? Because he's dead?
- 13:27Speaker 3: You know?
- 13:27Speaker 2: I read the book too before watching the first season,
- 13:30Speaker 2: and when we start watching and Frank Junior's alive and
- 13:33Speaker 2: all these changes have been made. Again no fan of
- 13:36Speaker 2: Frank Junior. I think it was smart decision making in
- 13:40Speaker 2: terms of having the show go on for multiple seasons,
- 13:43Speaker 2: because if we don't have that Frank Junior conflict, there's
- 13:46Speaker 2: not as much driving us forward. We don't have the
- 13:48Speaker 2: impetus to create the Chicken sisters versus the Cluckery and
- 13:52Speaker 2: all of this. So I get it. At the same time,
- 13:55Speaker 2: all love to James Cott. He's created the most milk
- 13:58Speaker 2: toast villain on the plan, so great, but I would
- 14:02Speaker 2: love to see him move on. Thanks Junior, It's time
- 14:05Speaker 2: to go.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Also love we gets the same story for him, like
- 14:10Speaker 3: over and over, Like okay, let's make the recipe again,
- 14:13Speaker 3: and okay, can we get a different story? Like you're
- 14:16Speaker 3: not going to sign the divorce papers? You're obsessed with
- 14:19Speaker 3: this chicken, Like obviously the chicken is a big part
- 14:22Speaker 3: of the story, but it felt feels like if he's
- 14:25Speaker 3: going to stick around, can we have him doing some
- 14:27Speaker 3: new things?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Is that all you have is this stolen chicken recipe?
- 14:31Speaker 3: Right?
- 14:31Speaker 1: Like that feels very you know, season one, and like
- 14:35Speaker 1: he needs a different story for season two. My wish
- 14:39Speaker 1: for is the weasel.
- 14:44Speaker 2: It's you know, it's we get it.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I get the reference so in your life isn't right
- 14:49Speaker 1: and you have to let it go. I mean, we
- 14:52Speaker 1: get the you know, the subtextsn't very sub it's just
- 14:56Speaker 1: sit right there. They're needed to. It could have been
- 14:59Speaker 1: used other places. We could have gotten the you gotta
- 15:02Speaker 1: let the weasel go reference a lot faster.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and worth several episodes into the weasel problem at
- 15:08Speaker 2: this point. This is Uh. Wendy would have said, this
- 15:11Speaker 2: was way too many high drinks for this episode. She
- 15:13Speaker 2: can't stand like that level of silliness. And the tunnel
- 15:17Speaker 2: to the outs it was. It was terribly I don't
- 15:19Speaker 2: disagree with you. It yeah, beating you over the head
- 15:22Speaker 2: with the symbolism there right they yeah.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I said, the subtests in very sub it
- 15:26Speaker 1: was just sitting right. Yeah, It's like right on the surface,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and it was like, okay, now we've let the problem go.
- 15:33Speaker 1: We let it go.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Yeah exactly.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And also I'm gonna say it almost like it trivialized
- 15:40Speaker 1: these women lifting each other up a bit, like like
- 15:43Speaker 1: it was such an important piece of this episode, both
- 15:47Speaker 1: these women walking alongside each other and lifting each other up.
- 15:51Speaker 1: That the Weasel almost was too trivial, So all side
- 15:55Speaker 1: with Wendy. I'll be the Wendy with no I agree.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I think I wonder if they thought it would be
- 16:03Speaker 3: a balance between the more serious yeah story lines that
- 16:08Speaker 3: are going on again, Yes, it was. It felt like
- 16:12Speaker 3: the longest day ever, Like, are they still like the
- 16:15Speaker 3: Weasels still in the closet? I thought we've already had
- 16:18Speaker 3: like nighttime scenes in life, so that felt like it
- 16:21Speaker 3: made it feel really long for me.
- 16:24Speaker 2: So for me, I hated Clayton's public dinner announcement about
- 16:28Speaker 2: being with Gus. It was exactly I heard the narrator's
- 16:34Speaker 2: voice over where she was like, now he's finally he
- 16:37Speaker 2: doesn't have anything to hide, which okay, I can kind
- 16:39Speaker 2: of appreciate that, and maybe that is how Gus took
- 16:44Speaker 2: that moment. For me, someone who's been skeptical of Clayton
- 16:47Speaker 2: since he walked in that diner on day one, and
- 16:50Speaker 2: I was screaming at May, ask him where he's been,
- 16:52Speaker 2: ask him why it's taken him so long. Seeing him
- 16:55Speaker 2: do that, I thought it's not enough. And then when
- 17:00Speaker 2: we finally get the realization that well at least, they're
- 17:07Speaker 2: starting to get the realization that Clayton's not always cracked
- 17:09Speaker 2: up to be. Jay is starting to poke holes and
- 17:11Speaker 2: May confronts him directly about it. It felt so gross.
- 17:17Speaker 2: When he's at that final scene with Gus, after we
- 17:20Speaker 2: know like he's just here for a good time, he says,
- 17:22Speaker 2: I want to travel with you, and I'm thinking that's
- 17:26Speaker 2: not really who Gus is. Like Gus wants to be
- 17:28Speaker 2: here in Marynac. She wants to be here with her
- 17:32Speaker 2: daughters and her family, like she has really come to
- 17:35Speaker 2: love this place. She and Nancy are bestie's, Like who
- 17:37Speaker 2: saw that coming? And so he just wants all the
- 17:40Speaker 2: good stuff and the collapse at the end, I just
- 17:45Speaker 2: don't think he's going to handle that well. I don't
- 17:48Speaker 2: think that bodes well for Good Time Clayton. I'm not
- 17:51Speaker 2: rooting for his demise because these women seem to really
- 17:54Speaker 2: want him in their life. But it's been coming.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Yeah. The mom that May really needed acknowledgment for her
- 18:01Speaker 1: dad makes this feel like it's going to be hard
- 18:04Speaker 1: on her.
- 18:05Speaker 3: I had a lot of thoughts speaking of May. I
- 18:08Speaker 3: was like, why would you want somebody you've never met
- 18:11Speaker 3: in your entire life to walk you down the aisle? Yes,
- 18:14Speaker 3: what in your head? Like, I get that, Amanda exactly,
- 18:19Speaker 3: her mom her, you know, the two of them. That
- 18:25Speaker 3: makes no sense to me, Like I can't wrap my head.
- 18:27Speaker 3: I get that again, how important it was because of
- 18:30Speaker 3: that big, huge event, like who is my dad? I
- 18:33Speaker 3: want to know who my dad is. I deserve to
- 18:35Speaker 3: know that kind of thing. I also think what I
- 18:38Speaker 3: was missing and why I really am not a Clayton
- 18:42Speaker 3: fan is that there was not any especially with us,
- 18:45Speaker 3: not really any deep conversation, so like why did you
- 18:48Speaker 3: leave or why didn't you come back? He should have
- 18:52Speaker 3: that should have happened before he stood up in the
- 18:54Speaker 3: restaurant and you know, basically declared his love and whatever. Yeah,
- 19:00Speaker 3: it's so superficial.
- 19:01Speaker 1: It's just so superficial. It feels even though he's been
- 19:05Speaker 1: there before and he's back, it feels like a side
- 19:08Speaker 1: quest for Gus and the girls.
- 19:10Speaker 3: And also maybe Gus just wants that. Maybe she only
- 19:14Speaker 3: wants a little bit of fun. She's good a lot
- 19:17Speaker 3: going on in her life, so maybe she's maybe she's willing,
- 19:21Speaker 3: but we didn't get any of that, so we don't
- 19:23Speaker 3: know if that's what's happening. The narrator didn't say that.
- 19:27Speaker 3: You know, if we had like this inkling that she
- 19:30Speaker 3: just wanted a fun time, then I would act with it.
- 19:33Speaker 1: But I don't.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Just don't suspect that's the case. I feel like she's
- 19:37Speaker 2: healing this wound of being left, and the fact that
- 19:39Speaker 2: he's showing up and wanting her is enough. Right now,
- 19:43Speaker 2: it's not enough, but for her that feels like so much,
- 19:47Speaker 2: and that he's publicly accepting of her. It's what she
- 19:51Speaker 2: never had, the Clayton thing. It's just I felt the
- 19:56Speaker 2: same way when May asks him to walk her down
- 19:57Speaker 2: the aisle. I felt like, how just re to all
- 20:00Speaker 2: the other people who have been here in your life
- 20:03Speaker 2: all of this time, Like it's not meaningful.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It'll be somebody else that walks or down by Alum there.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Are I'm certain I think you're right. It might be
- 20:13Speaker 2: May and Gus or Gus alone. I mean, there's no
- 20:16Speaker 2: way I doubt he's even going to be at the
- 20:19Speaker 2: wedding at this point. That's why I feeling is he's
- 20:22Speaker 2: going to take off. Oh I know what I was
- 20:23Speaker 2: going to say. They have It's a great scene. It's
- 20:26Speaker 2: the end of episode three, Julie. So you may not
- 20:28Speaker 2: have seen it, but it's when Clayton shows up to
- 20:30Speaker 2: Gus's house and he explains where he's been and he
- 20:34Speaker 2: came back. I came back and I saw you, and
- 20:37Speaker 2: I saw the way May looked at you, and I
- 20:38Speaker 2: saw you with another man, and then I left. And
- 20:41Speaker 2: the great thing about that scene is the acting in
- 20:44Speaker 2: that scene. The way she doesn't say a word the
- 20:47Speaker 2: entire time, just the way she looks at him is incredible.
- 20:50Speaker 2: But I'm thinking, Okay, now, push harder, because you came
- 20:55Speaker 2: back when May was two, and now she's what thirty
- 20:57Speaker 2: twenty eight years later, and it ever occurred to you
- 21:01Speaker 2: to try again. It's not good.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Enough, right, or try for your daughter even it is.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Yeah, it's okay that I had moved on, you left me,
- 21:09Speaker 2: but you got this kid. And that to me, that
- 21:12Speaker 2: moment when he was like I came back and you
- 21:14Speaker 2: were with another man, I was like, he's not here
- 21:16Speaker 2: for May. He's not here for May. No, And real
- 21:19Speaker 2: easy for him to be back now when all she
- 21:21Speaker 2: needs is like a you know, someone to occasionally flit
- 21:24Speaker 2: the bill and show up and be fun. It doesn't
- 21:26Speaker 2: have to actually be a parental figure for her right.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Just come and you know, be there for the fun
- 21:32Speaker 1: things or the step line. It's parenting is the hard part,
- 21:37Speaker 1: and coach being there when they're growing. Like he just
- 21:40Speaker 1: walked away from that. It's why that that whole storyline
- 21:43Speaker 1: gives us all that I don't think stuff.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Yes, right, who's the bigger villain, Clayton or Frank Junior
- 21:49Speaker 2: at this point, it's it's tough to say a little bit.
- 21:52Speaker 3: They both well, at least as bad as Frank Junior is. Also,
- 21:56Speaker 3: can we just call him Frank one of these days? Like,
- 22:00Speaker 3: but at least he keeps trying to come back, right, Like, yeah,
- 22:05Speaker 3: he's not a good person. He really screwed them over,
- 22:09Speaker 3: but he didn't just up and leave.
- 22:11Speaker 2: I guess he gets a point. Yeah, you can see.
- 22:14Speaker 3: That he regrets. You know, he's regretful in some ways,
- 22:18Speaker 3: sometimes not always because he just went and did it again.
- 22:22Speaker 3: But you know, there's been episodes where you could kind
- 22:25Speaker 3: of feel for him and in his loss, not that
- 22:28Speaker 3: he didn't deserve it.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a real hard time feeling any empathy
- 22:31Speaker 2: for Frank Junior. I totally hear what you're saying. No,
- 22:35Speaker 2: it doesn't last long and when I see him coming
- 22:37Speaker 2: back for Amanda, I don't feel like he's coming back
- 22:39Speaker 2: because he's regretful. I feel like he's coming back because
- 22:42Speaker 2: he wants to be in control. He ruises to sign
- 22:45Speaker 2: the divorce papers to assert power over Amanda. His life
- 22:49Speaker 2: is easier with Amanda in it. You know, he doesn't
- 22:52Speaker 2: want to have to start over. Its ruined his relationship
- 22:54Speaker 2: with his mother. I just I have a really hard
- 22:57Speaker 2: time seeing the good.
- 23:00Speaker 1: He's not there to lift Amanda up or walk alongside
- 23:03Speaker 1: her in life. So you know, of course you just
- 23:08Speaker 1: don't want that either.
- 23:09Speaker 2: So if they had wanted to give us frank Junior redemption,
- 23:12Speaker 2: which again I don't want, I think scenes with Frankie
- 23:14Speaker 2: would have been the thing that would have done it,
- 23:16Speaker 2: because there's nothing at stake in their relationship. He's just
- 23:19Speaker 2: being there for her and we don't see that happening.
- 23:23Speaker 2: There's nothing for him to gain there. So let's talk
- 23:25Speaker 2: to some did you see that moments from this episode?
- 23:28Speaker 2: Ladies go ahead.
- 23:29Speaker 1: I just have a really just kind of sweet moment
- 23:32Speaker 1: for anybody who's had teenagers. Even though this ended up
- 23:36Speaker 1: not happening, that they actually did a bit of a
- 23:39Speaker 1: promposal on there, and they did the whole balloons and
- 23:43Speaker 1: you know, she got promposed to and he got to
- 23:45Speaker 1: plan out a promposal. I just liked that they did
- 23:48Speaker 1: that actual nod when that's such a big thing. If
- 23:51Speaker 1: you have anybody who's in high school and involved with
- 23:55Speaker 1: that that it's it's a big deal on both sides.
- 23:57Speaker 1: So it didn't have to be super over the top.
- 24:00Speaker 1: It was just a very large bouquet of wounds. But
- 24:02Speaker 1: it was just fun to see that kind of nod
- 24:04Speaker 1: to what is a current trend and promposals.
- 24:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that was cute. I didn't hate that.
- 24:10Speaker 3: I have like a speaking of Frankie, why is she
- 24:15Speaker 3: always wearing like toddler hairstyles?
- 24:18Speaker 2: That's exactly great question. She does always have too late
- 24:21Speaker 2: raids up front?
- 24:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, why doesn't she have high school hairstyles?
- 24:26Speaker 3: I have a fifteen year old who spends an awful
- 24:28Speaker 3: lot of time on her hair, and we do get
- 24:30Speaker 3: like the pieces, but they're not like the giant brazen
- 24:35Speaker 3: Maybe I'm missing something like is that a thing?
- 24:38Speaker 2: I have a fifteen year old also and she always
- 24:41Speaker 2: has to have hair out in the front, but yeah,
- 24:44Speaker 2: it's not the braid like that. No, it's not now,
- 24:47Speaker 2: that is not Yeah, it is interesting. I do find
- 24:49Speaker 2: it a little distract she's so cute too. I do
- 24:51Speaker 2: find it a little distracting. I feel like it ages
- 24:54Speaker 2: her down. And I every time I think about the
- 24:57Speaker 2: fact that she's headed to college, I just can't wrap
- 25:00Speaker 2: my head around. Right.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Like, she says something about NYU and I was like,
- 25:03Speaker 3: but but what I thought were impression for a second, right,
- 25:07Speaker 3: because I'm not that invested in our character right now,
- 25:10Speaker 3: But it kind of I was like, why is she
- 25:12Speaker 3: wearing Toddler?
- 25:13Speaker 2: Also, anyone.
- 25:15Speaker 1: In going to NYU doesn't usually dress or do their
- 25:20Speaker 1: hair in a way that looks out of date and
- 25:22Speaker 1: out of style. They're usually have a look and a
- 25:27Speaker 1: bit of an edge that are very current. Even if
- 25:29Speaker 1: they don't have a lot of money, These kids are
- 25:30Speaker 1: great at thrifteing and doing all the things. Says. We
- 25:34Speaker 1: both have artsy kids, and I'm just going to tell
- 25:37Speaker 1: you that that's not the luck that's they're missing on her.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Look. Well, my original digitsy that I did want to
- 25:44Speaker 2: call out that li Jar scene. I think it was
- 25:47Speaker 2: masterfully directed and acted, But I have a tiny digitsy
- 25:51Speaker 2: that and it's from a listener, Paula, who emailed us
- 25:54Speaker 2: about Frank Junior's name tag. He put a little piece
- 25:57Speaker 2: of tape over the junior, like he couldn't even be
- 26:00Speaker 2: bothered to print a new name tag. He just had
- 26:01Speaker 2: to tape over, which I didn't even notice. But I
- 26:04Speaker 2: think is like such a perfect little bit about who
- 26:09Speaker 2: he is in that moment, Like the the elimination of
- 26:13Speaker 2: the junior is actually really irking me. I don't know why,
- 26:17Speaker 2: because I can't figure out his motivation. He's like, I'm
- 26:19Speaker 2: in charge now, but he's not. I don't know.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I see what you're saying. I missed the name
- 26:26Speaker 3: tag that I did write down in my notes how
- 26:29Speaker 3: he said it's just Frank now. But yeah, I think
- 26:32Speaker 3: it's He clearly had some like daddy issues or something
- 26:36Speaker 3: like being in the shadow.
- 26:38Speaker 1: Right daddy accuser?
- 26:40Speaker 3: Yeah, so I see that, as.
- 26:42Speaker 1: They all have daddy issues.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Let's just be honest, they really all do. All right, Well,
- 26:48Speaker 2: who is your MVP of the episode? Your feathered friend
- 26:51Speaker 2: of the wheat?
- 26:52Speaker 3: Okay, I'm gonna say I think Sergio.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he's good.
- 26:57Speaker 1: He's good. I have Skylar Fisk because I'm gonna throw
- 27:00Speaker 1: in this we haven't talked about. This sequence opened up
- 27:03Speaker 1: with the dream sequence, so so good, and it was
- 27:07Speaker 1: like multiple dreams, multiple viewpoints and done in that.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Line kind of creepy yees, and I didn't like it.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it was like unsettling because she's unsettled, and
- 27:19Speaker 1: they were so well done that you were unsettled. And
- 27:22Speaker 1: so I'm gonna say, uh, Skylar fisk Amanda. From the
- 27:27Speaker 1: dream sequences to the jar, those were fantastic scenes. They
- 27:32Speaker 1: were big hits. They did what they were supposed to do.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Made you feel like you were unsettled watching those Franks
- 27:38Speaker 1: not really there, like.
- 27:40Speaker 2: So good for me. My father friend of the Week
- 27:43Speaker 2: is Jay. I'm so glad he was the first to
- 27:45Speaker 2: finally see Clayton for who he is and very gently
- 27:48Speaker 2: kind of prod May about it. You know, she's like,
- 27:51Speaker 2: he goes, don't you find it interesting that now that
- 27:53Speaker 2: he's bored, he's retired from his job, he's here and
- 27:56Speaker 2: she's like, you know, from one workaholic to another, we
- 27:58Speaker 2: just get tunnel vision and Jason, it must have been
- 28:00Speaker 2: a long time, and I thought it was really funny,
- 28:04Speaker 2: but I just appreciated he was real gentle about it,
- 28:07Speaker 2: and I like how he's just the perfect fiance he
- 28:10Speaker 2: loves me and all of her iterations but with that
- 28:15Speaker 2: and that was of her.
- 28:18Speaker 3: He was he really was. May I really liked that
- 28:21Speaker 3: scene with them and that how he said that, like,
- 28:24Speaker 3: I like all the parts of you, like even the
- 28:26Speaker 3: parts aren't even the.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Sad organizing man, yeah, the mad man, like all of it. Yeah.
- 28:34Speaker 2: I really liked, Like he's the only good guy we
- 28:37Speaker 2: have in this No, Sergio is good guy. I take
- 28:40Speaker 2: that back, but one of the few good guys we
- 28:42Speaker 2: have in this show, and he sets the bar high.
- 28:45Speaker 2: So I really enjoyed him.
- 28:47Speaker 3: He's the only guy we have in a relationship, right,
- 28:49Speaker 3: so he we're getting shown something healthy, which is something
- 28:54Speaker 3: we don't really get to see. But yeah, honestly though,
- 28:57Speaker 3: between Jay and Sergio they were mayn vps because that
- 29:01Speaker 3: tip jar scene and just the look and the way
- 29:04Speaker 3: he was looking at Amanda.
- 29:06Speaker 2: I loved that the tip jar scene, the lie jar
- 29:09Speaker 2: when she takes it out, I'm like, what am I
- 29:10Speaker 2: doing with the li jar? Like I just was like, oh,
- 29:13Speaker 2: and then as she starts to read each line and
- 29:15Speaker 2: drops a coin in for every lie I it was great.
- 29:18Speaker 1: And the drama with every drop, it was like, yeah,
- 29:22Speaker 1: it was so good.
- 29:23Speaker 2: That was that was really well directed.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and just the tension in that scene was like
- 29:29Speaker 1: because she is like essentially telling him no, I actually
- 29:34Speaker 1: not just that I even just that she's telling him
- 29:36Speaker 1: I have feelings for you, but I also for you.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Like there's like they don't kind of push that too
- 29:41Speaker 1: much on homework.
- 29:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a little spicy like that.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Yeah, And between that and us is glow at the beginning,
- 29:50Speaker 2: there's lots of suggestiveness in this episode, right flow. Well,
