Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: LSU-Ole Miss Gets Personal: Lane Kiffin Returns to Oxford | Aaron Murray Talks SEC | Hour 1
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Later on, we'll continue a little overreaction in the NFL
- 0:05Speaker 1: with buying and selling of some teams, whether they'll bounce
- 0:08Speaker 1: back after an 0-1 start and make the playoffs. We've
- 0:12Speaker 1: got all the talk of college football to get to,
- 0:15Speaker 1: some TV ratings that we find interesting, but the world
- 0:18Speaker 1: seems to be watching Oxford, Mississippi this week. LT, I'll
- 0:23Speaker 1: ask you right off the bat here. Do you think that.
- 0:26Speaker 2: It is pretty, let's say, petty?
- 0:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Of an organization?
- 0:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Why?
- 0:33Speaker 5: Why?
- 0:34Speaker 1: If you are getting out of your car at the
- 0:37Speaker 1: LSU football complex, and of this week, of all of them,
- 0:41Speaker 1: that's when you get court papers served from your old
- 0:43Speaker 1: school Mississippi to Prince Uma Mealing.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Prince U. Prince U there.
- 0:51Speaker 1: He's getting out at the LSU football complex, and then boom,
- 0:54Speaker 1: he gets served with court papers for money he owes LSU.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Ole Miss from his NIL days there.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Of all weeks.
- 1:01Speaker 4: Of all weeks.
- 1:02Speaker 2: It's this week. Very coincidental. I don't get this. Why
- 1:06Speaker 2: poke the cage? Why bring more to this? I mean,
- 1:09Speaker 2: I understand if you really want to serve him, you
- 1:11Speaker 2: could have done it months ago, weeks ago. You could
- 1:14Speaker 2: do it next week. To do it this week, I mean,
- 1:17Speaker 2: obviously they're proving a point. that's what's behind this, but why?
- 1:21Speaker 1: But it's some mind games, right? You're doing some mind games.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I mean, you tell me, because real quick, Wilson Alexander,
- 1:26Speaker 1: who covers college football for On3 National, just tweeted, LSU
- 1:31Speaker 1: offensive lineman Devin Harper also expected to be served with
- 1:34Speaker 1: court papers soon as well. I mean, does that happen
- 1:38Speaker 1: this week, too?
- 1:38Speaker 2: You think you do them both this week? Oh, I'm
- 1:39Speaker 2: sure they will, but this is something LSU and Lane
- 1:42Speaker 2: Kiffin would do. I'm a little surprised it's the other
- 1:46Speaker 2: way around.
- 1:47Speaker 1: Well, umanmeeling, I'm trying to say it the way, umanmeeling, umanmeeling,
- 1:53Speaker 1: is the.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Way it says here. You're trying to say it. I'm
- 1:54Speaker 2: trying hard.
- 1:55Speaker 1: If you serve him and then the other guy, it's like, okay,
- 2:01Speaker 1: you owe me two slaps to the face. You slapped
- 2:04Speaker 1: me one time, and I never know when that second
- 2:06Speaker 1: one's coming. Waiting for the second one's almost worse than
- 2:09Speaker 1: getting served.
- 2:10Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 2:10Speaker 1: So now they're sitting there going, ah, you know, the serve, this...
- 2:14Speaker 1: These kids.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Aren't worried about it. It's not like you're getting served
- 2:17Speaker 2: where you're going to do time. They've got their camp
- 2:20Speaker 2: that's going to handle this. But it's about a million dollars,
- 2:23Speaker 2: isn't it? Altogether.
- 2:24Speaker 1: No, it's about a lot of money.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I don't know how much they're going to be affected
- 2:27Speaker 2: by it, but I don't think it's bothering the players
- 2:29Speaker 2: at all. But it's a rallying point for Lane. Look
- 2:30Speaker 2: at this Petty thing that they're doing. They call us Petty.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Look what they're doing.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin's probably right now saying they don't think they
- 2:37Speaker 1: can line up and beat us fair and square. They
- 2:39Speaker 1: are trying to play mind games with Prince. because they
- 2:42Speaker 1: know they can't beat us otherwise. I mean, that's probably
- 2:44Speaker 1: the angle Lane will take.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Yeah, to me, Ole Miss got baited into this.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I don't understand. And look, it could just– I mean,
- 2:50Speaker 1: I will give, because Pete seemed genuine in what he
- 2:53Speaker 1: said yesterday, so I'll give Pete the benefit of the doubt.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Pete Golding, I don't think this came from him. No,
- 2:58Speaker 1: it's happening above his head.
- 2:59Speaker 2: And I'd be pissed if I was Pete, though.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I don't even know if it's happening above his head.
- 3:03Speaker 1: This could be happening with boosters. are just attorneys that are–
- 3:08Speaker 1: I put the boosters above the head coach. I thought
- 3:11Speaker 1: you meant Keith Carter.
- 3:12Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Keith Carter seems like a really terrific dude.
- 3:15Speaker 2: No, I don't know Keith Carter. I don't either.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I would be surprised also if he made this choice.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And I'm with you, Lance. I'd be pissed if I'm
- 3:20Speaker 1: Pete because I doubt they ran this. Do you think
- 3:23Speaker 1: they ran this on a game week past AP?
- 3:24Speaker 6: No, no.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Smoke would be coming out of my ears if I
- 3:27Speaker 1: was the head coach because exactly like you guys are saying,
- 3:29Speaker 1: it is only going to fuel LSU. Do you guys
- 3:32Speaker 1: really know, just for factual purposes, do you really know
- 3:35Speaker 1: how many players– Are impacted by this? I didn't realize this.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Impacted by what?
- 3:40Speaker 2: The Ole Miss to LSU switch.
- 3:42Speaker 6: No.
- 3:43Speaker 2: The Ole Miss to LSU switch. It's not many. I
- 3:45Speaker 2: think it's like seven. I got six.
- 3:47Speaker 1: They wanted it to be eight. They wanted two more, yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 1: They wanted to attach Hamlet, Skeewan, Lacey.
- 3:51Speaker 2: I mean, look, I think that's a reflection of a
- 3:53Speaker 2: couple of things. I think the guys in Oxford love Oxford. Right.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I think they love their coach. They got a pay
- 3:58Speaker 2: raise probably. Yeah, and I think, you know, if you
- 4:01Speaker 2: like Lane, you're probably all in. And the guys that
- 4:03Speaker 2: went with him probably are all about Lane Kiffin. Now,
- 4:06Speaker 2: off the field.
- 4:07Speaker 1: You've got six players that will play in the game
- 4:09Speaker 1: that used to be at Ole Miss that are now
- 4:10Speaker 1: at LSU. You have 10 coaches and 16 staff members
- 4:15Speaker 1: that were at Ole Miss that are now at LSU.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So there's where all the bad blood really is. The
- 4:22Speaker 1: six guys on the field, now they're good.
- 4:24Speaker 2: They're good. But there's a lot of people.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Playing in this game that's like, what's the big uproar
- 4:30Speaker 1: about here, guys? If I may go back, though, for
- 4:32Speaker 1: a moment, Jim, and this is unfortunate for Pete Golding,
- 4:36Speaker 1: But this is a product of a guy that was
- 4:39Speaker 1: a defensive coordinator that you promoted to a job, and
- 4:41Speaker 1: he's got the best job he could have ever dreamed
- 4:43Speaker 1: to have had. And the reason I say that is,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and we use this example a lot, and I'm sure
- 4:49Speaker 1: people get tired of us using this example, but I'm
- 4:51Speaker 1: sorry we don't have a better example. Could you imagine
- 4:54Speaker 1: the same situation and somebody doing this without Nick Saban knowing?
- 4:57Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 4:58Speaker 6: He.
- 4:59Speaker 1: would have lost his ever-loving mind.
- 5:02Speaker 2: If there was an opportunity, they're losing their job. You know,
- 5:04Speaker 2: I mean, if it was somebody at that level.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that booster would never be back in an Alabama game.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I mean, he would have lost his mind if you
- 5:13Speaker 1: did something like this on a game day. But because
- 5:15Speaker 1: Pete was basically handed this job and he's– At this point,
- 5:19Speaker 1: he's beholden to the powers that be. Yeah, you can
- 5:22Speaker 1: push him around a little bit. Hey, should we run
- 5:24Speaker 1: this by Pete? Don't worry about Pete. I got Pete.
- 5:26Speaker 1: But Pete's just happy to be here. Pete's got this
- 5:29Speaker 1: job because of me.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And you know Saban's having this conversation with friends and
- 5:32Speaker 2: colleagues right now saying, you know, everything was lined up
- 5:35Speaker 2: the right way for Ole Miss and Pete. Like, they
- 5:38Speaker 2: weren't saying anything. They're just going through their motions. They're
- 5:41Speaker 2: getting ready for the game. And everything, all the focus
- 5:43Speaker 2: is on LSU. Now this thing shifts around a little bit.
- 5:46Speaker 2: How much of a factor is it? I don't know,
- 5:47Speaker 2: but it was unneeded.
- 5:48Speaker 1: And I say that not as a criticism of Pete Golding.
- 5:50Speaker 1: I think people that watch this show know we're fond
- 5:52Speaker 1: of Pete. Favorite coach in college football. I mean, I
- 5:55Speaker 1: love the way he operates. I say this as that's
- 5:58Speaker 1: unfortunate that you would treat a guy that way, that's
- 6:00Speaker 1: your head coach, that you would do something like this
- 6:02Speaker 1: on a game week. There's not an– I mean, you
- 6:06Speaker 1: really think being served papers, it's going to matter if
- 6:08Speaker 1: he got it on Tuesday, September 15th, or Tuesday, September 22nd.
- 6:13Speaker 2: You could have taken care of this this summer. Or
- 6:15Speaker 2: this summer.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's timed out really well.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Umamiling. Umamiling. I think I got it that time.
- 6:21Speaker 1: That way, Jimmy.
- 6:22Speaker 2: There we go. Work through it.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Six times always the charm. Mark that down, Brooks, for
- 6:26Speaker 1: a show to do in the summer. We just give
- 6:28Speaker 1: Jim 10 athletes, and let's see how close he can
- 6:30Speaker 1: come to pronouncing it.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Hey, Jim, by the way, there is no G in
- 6:35Speaker 4: his name.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I'm looking at this, not, but I'm looking at the pronunciation.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Mealing is the way they're saying this.
- 6:42Speaker 1: There's no you in tongue of Aloha, but she's pronouncing
- 6:44Speaker 1: you for some reason. I'm just, I'm looking at the pronunciation,
- 6:47Speaker 1: the official pronunciation. It's human like human. And then Scott,
- 6:52Speaker 1: don't get in his head. Scott just gave you a game.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I'm just saying there's no G.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Me-ling.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I'm looking at it. I'm just reading it like it.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Is that from Ole Miss, Jim? Or from LSU? I'm sorry.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Is that from LSU, Jim? It's from Grok.
- 7:03Speaker 3: I already mentioned we should have a Jimmy Phonics segment.
- 7:06Speaker 6: Oh, yes.
- 7:07Speaker 2: That's fantastic. That would be good. Let's save it for
- 7:09Speaker 2: the summer, though.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Before we jump into some sound from Ole Miss and
- 7:13Speaker 1: LSU and get into everything else going on in college
- 7:15Speaker 1: football and the NFL, let's remind you that the show,
- 7:18Speaker 1: the next round, is always brought to you by the
- 7:19Speaker 1: wonderful folks at at Hard Rock Bet. They're our partner here,
- 7:23Speaker 1: and they give us all sorts of insight and analysis
- 7:25Speaker 1: all season long.
- 7:27Speaker 2: You know the name Hard Rock.
- 7:28Speaker 1: You've known it since the cute girl in college was
- 7:31Speaker 1: wearing that Hard Rock t-shirt to class. But now, how
- 7:33Speaker 1: about the sportsbook? Hard Rock Bet sportsbook app is available.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It's Florida's only legal sportsbook, and is therefore the most
- 7:41Speaker 1: trustworthy option in the market. Hard Rock Bet, available now.
- 7:44Speaker 1: in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee,
- 7:49Speaker 1: or Virginia. So check it out there. And listen, with
- 7:52Speaker 1: Football Back, they've got new features.
- 7:54Speaker 2: On the app.
- 7:55Speaker 1: They've got some app updates. And they've got this promo
- 7:58Speaker 1: offer right now. $ 5 gets you $ 100 in bonus bets,
- 8:02Speaker 1: and that's available to all customers, not just the new users.
- 8:05Speaker 1: and a lot of fun games going on as well.
- 8:08Speaker 1: To get more details and to sign up, see if
- 8:10Speaker 1: you're available wherever you're watching the show today, hardrock.bet backslash clay,
- 8:15Speaker 1: hardrock.bet backslash clay. You would imagine the Ole Miss players
- 8:20Speaker 1: that hung around, they liked Lane Kiffin. Well, Whit Weeks
- 8:26Speaker 1: is in a unique situation. He's actually dating Lane Kiffin's daughter,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and he's one of the captains of this LSU football team.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Here's Whit Weeks down in Baton Rouge on what's going
- 8:38Speaker 1: on this week with LSU and Ole Miss, the big
- 8:40Speaker 1: top ten showdown in Oxford.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Your stance will be a little bit different than any
- 8:43Speaker 5: of your other teammates this weekend because you do have
- 8:46Speaker 5: a personal tie to your head football coach. Have you
- 8:48Speaker 5: thought about just how he will be received and treated
- 8:53Speaker 5: this weekend when you guys get off the bus?
- 8:56Speaker 7: I haven't really thought about how he's going to– I
- 8:58Speaker 7: haven't really thought about that, but, I mean, I know
- 9:00Speaker 7: he's going to get it.
- 9:01Speaker 1: I know they don't like him up there.
- 9:02Speaker 6: So– But he's prepared for that.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I mean, it is what it is.
- 9:05Speaker 6: He's done it before in his career. So I know
- 9:09Speaker 6: he's more prepared than anybody.
- 9:11Speaker 2: He's done it before in his career. He has at Tennessee.
- 9:14Speaker 2: That's true.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Of all the people, Lane has done it before. I mean,
- 9:17Speaker 1: they had to send security over to Layla and secure
- 9:20Speaker 1: the house. I guess when the kids, Knox was very small.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Landry was very small when he was leaving Tennessee. Got
- 9:28Speaker 1: left on a tarmac at USC. The owner with the
- 9:31Speaker 1: Raiders hated him. Wrote a letter about him, a public
- 9:33Speaker 1: letter about him. But nothing as bad as this, this weekend.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Well, look, and you can sum all that up to
- 9:39Speaker 2: just being really, really immature. Al Davis couldn't stand him,
- 9:44Speaker 2: but he was 31 years old at that point. Pat Hayden,
- 9:48Speaker 2: who fired him on the tarmac, the former AD at USC,
- 9:50Speaker 2: could not stand him. But you know lane's one of
- 9:54Speaker 2: those guys that you know he loves to poke the
- 9:56Speaker 2: cage and.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Got fired from alabama people forget that oh yeah yeah
- 10:01Speaker 1: saving him and made up and the most for a
- 10:03Speaker 1: national championship.
- 10:05Speaker 2: And i think there's still a lot of alabama fans
- 10:07Speaker 2: although they were going to forgive lane if lane was
- 10:09Speaker 2: going to come to alabama and possibly take that job
- 10:12Speaker 2: before caitlin abor every day ever did but Alabama fans
- 10:15Speaker 2: will never forget that. There's a lot to blame him
- 10:17Speaker 2: for that national championship loss.
- 10:19Speaker 1: But the difference in all the situations you just mentioned
- 10:24Speaker 1: is he's doing the best coaching he's ever done. And
- 10:26Speaker 1: that's what gets lost here. He's coaching the best football
- 10:29Speaker 1: he's ever coached.
- 10:29Speaker 2: And that's what's unfortunate.
- 10:30Speaker 1: And that's what gets lost with Lane because of all
- 10:32Speaker 1: the other Lane stuff. He was 55-19 at Ole Miss.
- 10:35Speaker 6: I know.
- 10:36Speaker 2: It's the best... In my lifetime, it's the best I've
- 10:39Speaker 2: ever seen Ole Miss be. And see, I don't think people...
- 10:42Speaker 2: I think with what we do for a living, we
- 10:44Speaker 2: can kind of equate to what an incredible job that
- 10:47Speaker 2: he did, winning double-digit games three or four years at
- 10:50Speaker 2: Ole Miss. But I think the outside perception is just
- 10:55Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin doing Lane Kiffin things. I don't think just
- 10:59Speaker 2: your casual fan equates him with a great offensive mind
- 11:02Speaker 2: that has really, really built something special.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Listen, our... Commercial breaks are not that long here on
- 11:08Speaker 1: Sporting State. On the fly, final segment of the show today.
- 11:12Speaker 2: With our huge, big, dry race boards.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Because this has to be the worst job in Oxford
- 11:18Speaker 1: on Saturday. Well, it won't be the worst job. There'll
- 11:20Speaker 1: be a lot of bad jobs in Oxford this weekend.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Being security?
- 11:25Speaker 1: They got the mounted police. Somebody's got to follow those
- 11:27Speaker 1: horses with a shovel. New Orleans is not sending mounted.
- 11:29Speaker 1: They're going to have mounted police, but they won't be
- 11:31Speaker 1: from New Orleans. There's some from Mobile as well. Mobile,
- 11:33Speaker 1: Alabama is sending some folks and. There's some extra security there.
- 11:37Speaker 1: But remember, there are people, if you've ever been to
- 11:39Speaker 1: college game days, there are people there that have to
- 11:41Speaker 1: check all the signs. That's right. Oh, my gosh. Can
- 11:44Speaker 1: you imagine having to check all the signs?
- 11:46Speaker 2: Why wouldn't you just let them go?
- 11:47Speaker 1: Yeah, at this point, you're like, And we give up.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I don't know what the guidelines are, but they kick
- 11:54Speaker 1: some signs out. The Jesus sign gets in every week.
- 11:57Speaker 1: That guy's awful early. Every week that Jesus sign is
- 11:59Speaker 1: right there on the front row, which I'm pro that.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I'm pro Jesus. You're pro Jesus, but I.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Wish that sign wasn't there, really. It's blocking a lot of.
- 12:07Speaker 2: A lot of real estate.
- 12:08Speaker 1: There's 8 million signs.
- 12:09Speaker 2: What do you want to see? Well, I mean, it's
- 12:10Speaker 2: right in the shot all the time. Do they still
- 12:12Speaker 2: have the Wazoo sign?
- 12:13Speaker 1: Wazoo flag.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's there.
- 12:15Speaker 1: But it gets blocked by the Jesus sign. Listen, I'm pro-Jesus, too.
- 12:18Speaker 1: You don't like his sign, apparently. Do we need that
- 12:20Speaker 1: sign every week? I mean, Jesus may want it there, Jim.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Have you ever.
- 12:23Speaker 1: Thought that Jesus wants that sign there? Can we not
- 12:24Speaker 1: just put somebody in a rainbow wig holding John 316?
- 12:26Speaker 1: Is that not enough? Have you ever thought the Holy
- 12:28Speaker 1: Spirit wanted that sign there?
- 12:30Speaker 2: I think this is going to be a weekend where
- 12:33Speaker 2: some get through, and it's probably going to be on
- 12:35Speaker 2: the broadcast. You're going to be like, damn, look at
- 12:36Speaker 2: that one. And then next break, it's going to be gone.
- 12:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it's going to be gone. Because I always wonder...
- 12:41Speaker 1: It's hard to hide a sign. It is.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm saying you can get it in for maybe
- 12:45Speaker 2: one segment.
- 12:46Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean, I don't know how... Have you
- 12:49Speaker 1: ever seen the process that people have to go through
- 12:51Speaker 1: to get the signs in? No.
- 12:52Speaker 2: You've never seen it? I haven't either. I've seen the...
- 12:55Speaker 2: I don't know how strict it is. I've seen the.
- 12:57Speaker 1: the trash pile of the signs that were taken away.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Right.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Oh, that's what I want to see.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:01Speaker 1: Somebody will have that photo. That's the video I want.
- 13:04Speaker 1: All the signs that were rejected.
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Sit there and just screenshot all day long. This one
- 13:09Speaker 1: didn't get in. This one didn't get in.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:11Speaker 1: That's the ones I want to see because there'll be
- 13:13Speaker 1: some good ones. Like I saw on social and Tyler
- 13:16Speaker 1: Siskey will join us in the second half of the
- 13:17Speaker 1: show who lives, who makes his home in Oxford. He
- 13:21Speaker 1: and Neil McCready do.
- 13:21Speaker 2: A great podcast.
- 13:23Speaker 1: One Eastern 12th century. And I saw Tyler yesterday. sent
- 13:26Speaker 1: out a photo of a sign that was vulgar, as
- 13:29Speaker 1: you might imagine, and he was like, it's only Tuesday,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and it's already one of the big sheet signs hanging out.
- 13:33Speaker 2: At a frat house?
- 13:34Speaker 1: At a frat house. Well, it actually looked like a townhouse.
- 13:36Speaker 1: It didn't even look like a frat house. And I
- 13:39Speaker 1: saw earlier today on social media somebody reporting that Oxford's
- 13:43Speaker 1: mayor has told the police, go take down all the signs.
- 13:46Speaker 1: So now apparently Oxford police are sweeping through taking down
- 13:49Speaker 1: all the signs.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Where's my First Amendment right?
- 13:53Speaker 1: You've got an argument, I would say. Now, see, it depends.
- 13:57Speaker 2: If it's fraternity house and it's owned by the university, then,
- 14:03Speaker 2: you know, it's almost like an HOA. I mean, they can,
- 14:06Speaker 2: at that point. Yeah, there's relationships.
- 14:07Speaker 1: A lot of those fraternity houses are owned by the fraternities,
- 14:10Speaker 1: but there's an agreement to have that property. Of course,
- 14:13Speaker 1: on the sign part, I'd make my case I'm on
- 14:14Speaker 1: state property, so I should have a First Amendment right
- 14:17Speaker 1: there as well, but either way. The report I saw,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and we'll ask Tyler about this, is the Oxford mayor
- 14:22Speaker 1: was telling people to take down the signs. Let us
- 14:24Speaker 1: on Sporting State not defend the First Amendment. I mean,
- 14:28Speaker 1: you should be able to. I mean, it's not on broadcast.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I've seen some really intense signs.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 1: At frat houses, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, all over the SEC. Yes,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I mean, it's just kind of a thing the frat
- 14:40Speaker 1: houses do. I guess in the South. I don't know
- 14:41Speaker 1: if they do that elsewhere.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Well, when I had to go. I don't know if
- 14:43Speaker 2: it's a big team thing.
- 14:44Speaker 1: When I spent Fridays on campus, when I was doing
- 14:46Speaker 1: local TV, that was always the video I'd count on doing.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Let's go get some of the signs.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah, let's go to the frat houses. All right, guys,
- 14:54Speaker 1: we're back here in Tuscaloosa. Boy, the ATOs are fired up.
- 14:57Speaker 1: They're not happy about Nick Saban being in town.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Look at that. Yeah, I bet those are brutal. Yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 2: nothing like this weekend. Here's Kiwan Lacey. You wonder about
- 15:06Speaker 2: the players, Trinidad and Kiwan.
- 15:07Speaker 1: They got the offer to go to LSU, as you
- 15:09Speaker 1: would imagine, two of the best quarterbacks and running back
- 15:13Speaker 1: combos in all of college football. So Kiwan gets asked
- 15:17Speaker 1: yesterday about his relationship with Lane Kiffin. How close do
- 15:19Speaker 1: you think they are?
- 15:20Speaker 2: Listen in.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Kiwan, what's your relationship with Lane like now?
- 15:25Speaker 2: Really don't have a relationship with him. Just focus on
- 15:27Speaker 2: the season.
- 15:29Speaker 5: Okay.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Prepared answer? There we go.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Key one very brief.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Well, I'm sure Key one was an old transition was
- 15:35Speaker 2: going through. I'm sure Lane reached out and said, we'd
- 15:37Speaker 2: love to have you as an LSU Tiger. And he
- 15:40Speaker 2: passed on it, and that probably was the end of
- 15:42Speaker 2: the relationship. Yeah.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Last year, the way the season ended, I think Ole
- 15:47Speaker 1: Miss went just as far as they would have gone
- 15:49Speaker 1: with Lane.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Oh, I think Lance argues they went further. I think
- 15:52Speaker 2: they went further. You think they went further without Lane?
- 15:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:55Speaker 6: I do.
- 15:55Speaker 2: You don't think they would have beaten Georgia? Well, you know,
- 15:58Speaker 2: it was one of those– we've seen– you know, based on,
- 16:01Speaker 2: you know, different adverse situations, how, you know, teams galvanized
- 16:05Speaker 2: together and they felt jilted. They felt like they were left.
- 16:10Speaker 2: They felt like they were left Lane's reasoning. And they
- 16:12Speaker 2: were probably told internally, he doesn't believe you guys could
- 16:16Speaker 2: ever want a national championship. That's why he took the
- 16:18Speaker 2: LSU job. He said as much. And, and like that
- 16:21Speaker 2: game against Georgia, there was something special going on with
- 16:24Speaker 2: Ole Miss. I don't think they would have beaten Georgia
- 16:26Speaker 2: with Lane. I've seen, you know, Ole Miss, Georgia before
- 16:29Speaker 2: and how that thing's played out. I know, I think
- 16:31Speaker 2: Lane's got one win against Kirby, but I just, I
- 16:34Speaker 2: feel like it was kind of a moment in time
- 16:37Speaker 2: and it went the right way because of that.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I do.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I agree with Lance.
- 16:40Speaker 1: I think there was a galvanizing element to Lane leaving
- 16:43Speaker 1: and Pete taking over. Not that they wouldn't have played
- 16:46Speaker 1: hard for Lane, but I think they, it seemed like
- 16:49Speaker 1: they played hard for Pete. They played harder for Pete Golding.
- 16:52Speaker 1: The most amazing thing would have been Had they held
- 16:56Speaker 1: on and beat Miami. I mean, for Pete Golding to
- 16:59Speaker 1: coach his way through the playoffs to play for a
- 17:00Speaker 1: national championship.
- 17:02Speaker 2: And it's still, it was a PI at the end.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Oh, there's no doubt it was pass interference at the end.
- 17:05Speaker 1: If the refs do their job, they've got an untimed
- 17:07Speaker 1: down from the two. Is that the way that works?
- 17:09Speaker 1: Pass interference in the end zone in college? Either way,
- 17:12Speaker 1: they could have won that game and played for a
- 17:13Speaker 1: national championship. That would have been an incredibly amazing story.
- 17:17Speaker 1: And if you look at the way Miami played Indiana,
- 17:19Speaker 1: who knows? Miami had a ball in hand with a
- 17:21Speaker 1: chance to beat Indiana, maybe Ole Miss would have to.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Look, this is just an opinion. Like, we will never
- 17:28Speaker 2: know because that never played out that way. But it
- 17:31Speaker 2: just felt like Ohio– or, excuse me, Ole Miss had
- 17:34Speaker 2: a huge chip on the shoulder going into the college
- 17:37Speaker 2: football playoff.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Is this going to be a good game, though?
- 17:39Speaker 2: I kind of hope so.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I do, too. But, you know, so often these– Because
- 17:41Speaker 1: I planned my Saturday around it already. Me, too.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Me, too.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And I hate like heck that Auburn, Florida is at
- 17:45Speaker 1: the same time. But so often these games that get
- 17:49Speaker 1: built up like this don't deliver. And well, game of
- 17:52Speaker 1: the century. And I'm not saying this is a game
- 17:55Speaker 1: for national with national championship implications, but it is two
- 17:59Speaker 1: top 10 teams. So technically it is the game of
- 18:03Speaker 1: the century was I thought was a really good football game.
- 18:05Speaker 2: But what was that? Nine, six and overtime, six overtime.
- 18:08Speaker 2: And that was late in the season. I mean, you
- 18:10Speaker 2: knew winner of that game was going to play for
- 18:12Speaker 2: the national championship. You didn't know what you.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Thought the loser might not.
- 18:16Speaker 2: And yeah.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Alabama got an incredible break.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yeah, if it wasn't for Oklahoma State absolutely blowing that
- 18:23Speaker 2: Friday night game against Iowa State, then Alabama wouldn't have
- 18:26Speaker 2: got an opportunity. I do think whoever comes out of
- 18:29Speaker 2: this game unscathed, whether it's Ole Miss or LSU, they're
- 18:31Speaker 2: in a great situation. Oh, they are.
- 18:33Speaker 1: To make the playoffs. Real quickly, schedule-wise, is that why
- 18:36Speaker 1: you're saying that? I mean, LSU still has Alabama and Texas.
- 18:39Speaker 2: No, but if you look at LSU, like going into
- 18:42Speaker 2: the season, we thought Clemson would be much more competitive.
- 18:44Speaker 2: I mean, that was a dangerous game. And then having
- 18:46Speaker 2: to go to Oxford, if you win both of those
- 18:48Speaker 2: games in September, you know, you're just in a really
- 18:51Speaker 2: good spot. And I think Ole Miss, I don't know
- 18:54Speaker 2: about you guys, but I will believe Ole Miss is
- 18:57Speaker 2: better than I thought they were going to be going
- 18:58Speaker 2: into this season. If they've already knocked off Louisville, who
- 19:00Speaker 2: I think is better than advertised and Then if they
- 19:03Speaker 2: were to knock off LSU after the way they looked,
- 19:05Speaker 2: I would be really, really impressed with the start for
- 19:07Speaker 2: Ole Miss.
- 19:08Speaker 1: There is no doubt between Ole Miss and LSU's schedule
- 19:10Speaker 1: that Ole Miss has the better win so far.
- 19:13Speaker 2: It's not even close. They do. Louisville's better than Clemson.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I will tell you, both teams, their biggest issue is
- 19:19Speaker 1: next week.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Coming down. Coming down.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I mean, LSU's hosting Texas A & M. I mean,
- 19:23Speaker 1: that is a difficult game under any circumstance. And Ole
- 19:25Speaker 1: Miss is going to Florida. They pack up and go
- 19:27Speaker 1: to Florida. Yeah, I mean, both those games are incredibly difficult.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Imagine if Florida has beaten Auburn this weekend and they're
- 19:34Speaker 1: 3-0 with a home game in Ole Miss. That'll be
- 19:37Speaker 1: a juiced environment. Hey, we're going to talk about a
- 19:40Speaker 1: ton of college football with Aaron Murray, who was in
- 19:43Speaker 1: Auburn this past week. He's coming up on the other side.
- 19:46Speaker 1: This is the next round presented by Hard Rock Bets
- 19:48Speaker 1: right here on Sports. and state really insane numbers nba
- 19:53Speaker 1: expansion franchises it looks like vegas and seattle moving a
- 19:58Speaker 1: step forward this week for the nba expansion seattle's franchise
- 20:02Speaker 1: is expected to go to seven billion ish and the
- 20:06Speaker 1: one in Vegas expecting to cost $ 10 billion-ish for those
- 20:10Speaker 1: expansion franchises in those two cities.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I mean, it seems like based on valuation by Forbes,
- 20:16Speaker 2: you're already making money once you... immediately get the money
- 20:19Speaker 2: raised you want to buy one let's do it oh
- 20:22Speaker 2: yeah yeah it's just a few billion dollars i'll tell
- 20:24Speaker 2: you i can't wait for seattle i thought the sonics
- 20:26Speaker 2: were such a good organization was such a good fan base.
- 20:29Speaker 1: And a good good logo i used to love staying
- 20:31Speaker 1: up late night to watch those games john camp gary
- 20:34Speaker 1: payton teams played in the kingdom some didn't they.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Uh key arena i don't i don't think you don't.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Think they ever did kingdom early on i think they
- 20:41Speaker 1: had some It would not surprise me if Michael Jordan
- 20:44Speaker 1: played in the Kingdome in Seattle. He played in the
- 20:45Speaker 1: Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I know that. Tell us about XXXY, and we'll talk
- 20:49Speaker 2: to Aaron Murray.
- 20:49Speaker 1: It was founded by Jennifer Say. She's a former national
- 20:51Speaker 1: champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president. She walked away from
- 20:54Speaker 1: a corporate job rather than say something she didn't believe in,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and she started XXXY Athletics instead. They've got a mission,
- 21:01Speaker 1: in their words, to empower female athletes to take a
- 21:03Speaker 1: stand for fair competition. It's a team that launched a movement,
- 21:06Speaker 1: and it's real athletic apparel, not just a slogan on
- 21:08Speaker 1: a shirt. Performance tops, tanks, sports bras, leggings, shorts, training sets. Polos, hoodies, hats,
- 21:14Speaker 1: graphic tees, men's and women's clothing. It's worn by athletes
- 21:17Speaker 1: who've actually put something on the line. XXXYAthletics.com is the
- 21:21Speaker 1: website to order. XX-XYAthletics.com. You can find that Nashville Balls
- 21:27Speaker 1: gear there, too. Clay Travis' future WNBA franchise. Not quite
- 21:31Speaker 1: worth $ 7 billion, but I'm sure Clay will get there
- 21:33Speaker 1: at some point. XX-XYAthletics.com. Excuse me. XX-XYAthletics.com. When Aaron gets here,
- 21:43Speaker 1: we'll talk a little football. I swear I thought I
- 21:46Speaker 1: remembered a Kingdome game for the Sonics back in the day.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Do you remember when Jordan played at the Georgia Dome?
- 21:51Speaker 1: Do you guys remember that?
- 21:52Speaker 2: 1979, Kingdome. Okay. They played there.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Yeah, they actually played their home games at the Kingdome
- 21:58Speaker 4: from 78 to 85.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah, I don't remember that. Is that Key Arena
- 22:03Speaker 2: came in in 85? I guess so, yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 1: So that's where they played until they had Key Arena
- 22:07Speaker 1: built there. I remember some massive crowds out there.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I do remember the Georgia, because I went and
- 22:11Speaker 2: saw Kobe in his rookie or second year, because they
- 22:15Speaker 2: were doing the transition from playing in the Omni to Phillips.
- 22:18Speaker 6: Right.
- 22:18Speaker 2: And so they had to play in the Dome.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I think when Jordan played at the Georgia Dome, it
- 22:21Speaker 1: was like 65,000 people at the game or something like that.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Well, we used to play the SEC tournament there. Oh,
- 22:25Speaker 2: I know, yeah. It was the only Final Four I've
- 22:27Speaker 2: ever been to. Terrible. Terrible, yep.
- 22:30Speaker 6: All right.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Old men yelling at the clouds. Aaron Murray is with
- 22:32Speaker 1: us now. You see him on the SEC Network. We'll
- 22:36Speaker 1: talk all SEC with Aaron, but he's uniquely qualified, though,
- 22:39Speaker 1: to talk about the Auburn-Florida game because he's seen both
- 22:42Speaker 1: teams already this year.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Welcome in, Aaron. How are you today? Man, excited.
- 22:46Speaker 6: Yeah, you said I had Florida week one. I had
- 22:49Speaker 6: Auburn week two. So it's good to see those. I
- 22:52Speaker 6: got to go to... Mississippi State versus South Carolina this weekend,
- 22:55Speaker 6: which I am just, man, I cannot wait to see
- 22:57Speaker 6: those quarterbacks play. I mean, I think that's going to
- 23:00Speaker 6: be one of the best games at that second window
- 23:03Speaker 6: on Saturday. And just, boy, getting to see Kamario Taylor
- 23:06Speaker 6: in person, I have just been salivating all week to
- 23:09Speaker 6: get to South Carolina.
- 23:11Speaker 2: So who's got the quarterback matchup advantage in both of
- 23:14Speaker 2: those games? Philo versus Byron Brown. And then, you know,
- 23:19Speaker 2: you obviously mentioned Lenora Sellers and Kamario Taylor.
- 23:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I'm going to go with Philo, honestly,
- 23:26Speaker 6: in the game. I think he's played a little bit
- 23:28Speaker 6: more consistent to the first two weeks. And I know
- 23:30Speaker 6: they haven't played a Baylor that Auburn has. But even
- 23:37Speaker 6: going back as preparation for that week one matchup for
- 23:40Speaker 6: them versus FAU, watching the tape from a year ago,
- 23:43Speaker 6: I was like, man, I am just so impressed with
- 23:44Speaker 6: the way this guy plays inside the offense. I love
- 23:47Speaker 6: what Buster Faulkner is able to do with creating leverage
- 23:50Speaker 6: and soft points on a defense. And, and, and I
- 23:54Speaker 6: thought Aaron following the film, you know, during his Georgia
- 23:56Speaker 6: tech time, did a really nice job of facilitating B.
- 23:59Speaker 6: I know the word gets thrown out a lot when
- 24:00Speaker 6: it talks to him or just quarterbacks in general of
- 24:02Speaker 6: just being a point guard, getting the ball to guys
- 24:04Speaker 6: in space. And, but that that's part of being with
- 24:07Speaker 6: Buster Faulkner is he's able to throw all the motions
- 24:10Speaker 6: and the shifts create a soft defense where guys cannot press.
- 24:14Speaker 6: And then you look at the elite speed of the
- 24:15Speaker 6: Florida receivers and, When you create those motions and shift
- 24:18Speaker 6: and you get off coverage, you're able just to catch it,
- 24:21Speaker 6: see it, and just get the ball out of your hands.
- 24:22Speaker 6: I thought he did a good job at Georgia Tech
- 24:24Speaker 6: doing that. I think he's doing a really good job
- 24:26Speaker 6: at Florida doing that as well. So I think he's
- 24:29Speaker 6: playing with a lot of confidence. My one concern with
- 24:32Speaker 6: Byram is, and it's a little bit shocking because he's
- 24:35Speaker 6: been in the offense. His starting three receivers are guys
- 24:38Speaker 6: that he's very familiar with, obviously during his time at USF,
- 24:42Speaker 6: but he just has seemed late with the football the
- 24:44Speaker 6: past two weeks. Like guys are open, but he's late
- 24:48Speaker 6: getting the ball out of his hands. And I even
- 24:50Speaker 6: last week, there's the game that I was broadcasting, you know,
- 24:53Speaker 6: Southern Miss quarterback had one where, you know, it was
- 24:55Speaker 6: like a stick route to the tight end and he
- 24:57Speaker 6: gets it, bam, throws it between two defenders. It's completion.
- 25:01Speaker 6: Two possessions before that, Byron had the same thing and
- 25:04Speaker 6: he didn't throw the football and the guy's wide open.
- 25:06Speaker 6: And I said in the broadcast, like Byron should see this.
- 25:08Speaker 6: Like this is open in the SEC. You have to
- 25:11Speaker 6: trust it and get rid of it. And right now
- 25:13Speaker 6: he's just not, trusting himself, like I said, which is
- 25:17Speaker 6: a little shocking because he's playing the offense and he's
- 25:19Speaker 6: played with these receivers. So I need him to be
- 25:21Speaker 6: a little bit better with that one. And then with
- 25:23Speaker 6: the other game, I think Camario is playing as good,
- 25:28Speaker 6: if not better than anyone else in the country right now.
- 25:30Speaker 6: I think he's going to end up being the best
- 25:32Speaker 6: quarterback in college football this season. So I think that
- 25:35Speaker 6: answers that question. I love Lenores. I think Lenores has
- 25:39Speaker 6: struggled a little bit to start this season. You know,
- 25:41Speaker 6: I think the receivers have not helped them at all
- 25:43Speaker 6: with drops. But there's been multiple times where I've seen
- 25:46Speaker 6: guys open and the ball is just dying on him.
- 25:50Speaker 6: And I think there's a little bit of a question
- 25:52Speaker 6: of getting used to the new offense, feeling comfortable in
- 25:54Speaker 6: the offense with Kendall Bryles. And hopefully that gets better
- 25:57Speaker 6: and better each week because I know he's got a
- 25:58Speaker 6: strong enough arm. But I said too many times I've
- 26:01Speaker 6: seen the ball die in him. And I think that's
- 26:03Speaker 6: still him working through kind of getting through his reads
- 26:05Speaker 6: and throwing the ball with that confidence.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Listen, you're like the fifth person I respect football mind
- 26:10Speaker 1: wise that tells me Buster Faulkner is is this or that.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I've had one guy tell me that he does it
- 26:16Speaker 1: different than anybody else in the SEC. I see Grubb
- 26:19Speaker 1: and a lot of teams shift in motion a lot.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Can you just give me an elevator pitch on what
- 26:25Speaker 1: Buster Faulkner does that's so different than everybody else? I mean,
- 26:29Speaker 1: there are only 11 guys on the field, right? I know.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Yeah, what's different?
- 26:33Speaker 6: I mean, yes, everyone does. Don't get me wrong. There's
- 26:36Speaker 6: very few like back in my day. Back in my day.
- 26:37Speaker 6: Back in my day stuff. We would just line up
- 26:42Speaker 6: and play football. It was like, hey, I got AJ Green.
- 26:44Speaker 6: We don't need a motion shift. We're just going to
- 26:46Speaker 6: line up and just throw it up to him. It's easy.
- 26:49Speaker 6: It was more about the Jimmys and Joes and the
- 26:50Speaker 6: Xs and Os. And talking with Buster, he's like, man,
- 26:53Speaker 6: that is my job. My job is to make life easier.
- 26:57Speaker 6: So yes, there are everyone in their mind. Lane Kiffin
- 27:00Speaker 6: does it as good as anyone as well. Finding ways
- 27:03Speaker 6: to create leverage through formation and shifts and finding those
- 27:08Speaker 6: little pain points that for the defense. So it's not
- 27:10Speaker 6: just about motion to motion. It's not about shifting to
- 27:13Speaker 6: just shift. It's about understanding what the defense is presenting
- 27:17Speaker 6: to me and where the weakness is on that defense
- 27:19Speaker 6: to get my playmakers in space and get them the ball.
- 27:23Speaker 6: And I just think that his understanding of the defense
- 27:25Speaker 6: and what he has offensively to work with, you know,
- 27:28Speaker 6: VB three, for example, you know, can I take him
- 27:31Speaker 6: from an outside position, get him in a quick motion
- 27:33Speaker 6: where the ball is snapped while he's still in motion.
- 27:36Speaker 6: And all of a they're having to communicate defensively and
- 27:39Speaker 6: he's matched up against a nickel so your third corner
- 27:42Speaker 6: your third db or he's matched up against a linebacker
- 27:44Speaker 6: or a safety and he's able to use that speed
- 27:47Speaker 6: to create leverage and then get the ball the quarterback's
- 27:49Speaker 6: hand so yes to your point a lot of people
- 27:52Speaker 6: do it and i'm not saying that like what he's
- 27:54Speaker 6: doing is like oh my god no one else is
- 27:57Speaker 6: doing in college football i just think he does it
- 27:59Speaker 6: a And his football IQ of understanding where the weak
- 28:04Speaker 6: points are in the defense allows him to do it
- 28:07Speaker 6: in a way that gives a quarterback a lot of
- 28:10Speaker 6: confidence throwing the football.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Uh, I, Aaron, quickly, I have to ask my colleagues,
- 28:13Speaker 1: may I ask two questions here? Because he's already said, please,
- 28:16Speaker 1: he's already said two things. I want to clarify. I
- 28:18Speaker 1: was going to ask too, because I want to know
- 28:19Speaker 1: what Camario is. Camario is going to be like, if
- 28:22Speaker 1: something ever goes wrong, cause nothing goes wrong for him yet.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Well, I'll save that for later.
- 28:26Speaker 6: Okay.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he could blend that into the first one.
- 28:28Speaker 1: Did you just say you think at the end of
- 28:29Speaker 1: the year, Camario Taylor will be the best quarterback in America?
- 28:32Speaker 2: Did I hear that?
- 28:32Speaker 1: I do.
- 28:33Speaker 6: Okay. I, I, I, I don't know what's wrong with him.
- 28:36Speaker 6: And I, I'm hoping that I'm not jinxing him before
- 28:38Speaker 6: I call this game. And you know, USC gets the
- 28:41Speaker 6: best of him, like USC got the best of me,
- 28:43Speaker 6: Williams-Rice Stadium, because that is a very, yeah, that's one that,
- 28:46Speaker 6: you know, Auburn, same way, one of the most difficult
- 28:49Speaker 6: places to play, you know, Sandstorm, they're going to be juiced.
- 28:52Speaker 6: It's going to be hot. It's a tough environment. So
- 28:55Speaker 6: this is going to be a huge test for him
- 28:57Speaker 6: to really show the country that, yes, I can play
- 29:00Speaker 6: to the level, especially if Dylan Stewart's playing. If Dylan
- 29:02Speaker 6: Stewart's playing, you know, that obviously makes that game even
- 29:05Speaker 6: more difficult for him. But you look at him, 6'4, 230.
- 29:10Speaker 6: elite speed. You saw the 70 yard touchdown off his
- 29:13Speaker 6: back foot. We've seen the accuracy, some of the balls
- 29:16Speaker 6: that he's putting in there on the run with inside
- 29:19Speaker 6: the pocket. So yes, I would love to see how
- 29:23Speaker 6: he handles adversity and struggling. But when you look at
- 29:27Speaker 6: all the things that make up a really good quarterback,
- 29:30Speaker 6: he's got it. And he wants to be a quarterback first.
- 29:33Speaker 6: And it's something you talk to the coaching staff and
- 29:35Speaker 6: you read all the articles. He's not relying on his athleticism.
- 29:38Speaker 6: That is, and I get, products, you know, props to
- 29:41Speaker 6: a lot of the quarterbacks in this league. You look
- 29:42Speaker 6: at Tennessee, you look at Alabama, those guys want to
- 29:45Speaker 6: be QBs with inside the pocket first, and then use
- 29:48Speaker 6: their athleticism second to then create plays and break down
- 29:51Speaker 6: a defense. But man, when it just comes to, like
- 29:53Speaker 6: I said, all the little things from accuracy to standing
- 29:57Speaker 6: in the pocket to arm strength, I've yet to find
- 30:03Speaker 6: a flaw watching him play so far this season. And yeah,
- 30:06Speaker 6: it's not been against maybe tough, tough defenses, but he
- 30:10Speaker 6: was on the road last week against Minnesota. That's not
- 30:12Speaker 6: a bad program. And once again, he was pretty flawless.
- 30:15Speaker 1: All right, quickly, there's a narrative, I guess. We keep
- 30:20Speaker 1: hearing it through two weeks that Auburn's receivers cannot get separation.
- 30:24Speaker 1: And what you've watched, is that an accurate narrative?
- 30:27Speaker 6: No, I don't think so. I still think Auburn at
- 30:30Speaker 6: the end of the day, it's the offensive line. I
- 30:32Speaker 6: think the offensive line is going to be better. I think,
- 30:35Speaker 6: to my point earlier, Byron's got to let the ball go.
- 30:39Speaker 6: There's multiple times in week one and then even week
- 30:42Speaker 6: two where guys are open and he's just not letting
- 30:44Speaker 6: it rip. These aren't the Florida receivers, don't get me wrong,
- 30:48Speaker 6: but I still think that Singleton and Nimrod, Chase Nimrod's
- 30:52Speaker 6: a guy that definitely be on the lookout for. I
- 30:54Speaker 6: think he's the most talented of the three can open
- 30:58Speaker 6: things up. But I think it's still an order of
- 31:01Speaker 6: things that have to get better for Auburn. It's offensive
- 31:03Speaker 6: line's got to be better. Byron's got to let the
- 31:05Speaker 6: ball go. And then I would say, yeah, the receivers
- 31:07Speaker 6: are good. There's not an all-SEC guy on that roster,
- 31:10Speaker 6: but they've been open enough to where an SEC quarterback's
- 31:13Speaker 6: got to let it go.
- 31:15Speaker 2: So Alabama is trailing for 42 minutes in Lexington. Literally, Aaron,
- 31:21Speaker 2: a tell of two halves. with Alabama down four at
- 31:23Speaker 2: halftime and then blowing out Kentucky 32-0 in the second half.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Keelan Russell turned it over three times in the first half,
- 31:30Speaker 2: settled in in the second half, his first road start
- 31:33Speaker 2: in the SEC. Where are you right now on Russell
- 31:36Speaker 2: early in the season?
- 31:37Speaker 6: I like him, man. Like, listen, it was, it was,
- 31:39Speaker 6: it was a good, shout out to Kentucky. They brought
- 31:42Speaker 6: the juice for that game. And, you know, obviously for him,
- 31:45Speaker 6: some of those, like that first interception just sucks. And
- 31:48Speaker 6: then That was my problem too, watching the tape for Alabama.
- 31:50Speaker 6: I mean, how many times was he throwing to the left,
- 31:52Speaker 6: that quick screen, or even rolling to his left where
- 31:55Speaker 6: there's a defender in his face? And it is so
- 31:59Speaker 6: difficult for a quarterback to work your arm angle going
- 32:03Speaker 6: that direction with defenders in your face. So I would
- 32:05Speaker 6: like to see this offense maybe stop doing that as much.
- 32:09Speaker 6: I know he's athletic. You're like, oh, he'll just run
- 32:10Speaker 6: around the guy or he'll figure it out with his
- 32:12Speaker 6: arm angle. And that is very difficult to do against
- 32:16Speaker 6: guys that can run when you have a free rusher
- 32:18Speaker 6: to your left moving that direction. So I think there's
- 32:20Speaker 6: some stuff schematically that can be better for Alabama. But
- 32:24Speaker 6: at the end of the day, when I watched, I
- 32:25Speaker 6: still think there was more good than bad from Keelan Russell.
- 32:28Speaker 6: I still saw a quarterback mature, get better through the game,
- 32:31Speaker 6: obviously have a better second half. I think he's a
- 32:36Speaker 6: good guy. I think you're back home. You're not on
- 32:39Speaker 6: the road, so you don't have to deal with that.
- 32:40Speaker 6: I think you should have gained some confidence from a
- 32:42Speaker 6: week ago. obviously the run game is going to help
- 32:45Speaker 6: any quarterback play at a higher level. I still am
- 32:48Speaker 6: a little bit concerned with Alabama's run game. I still
- 32:50Speaker 6: saw some glaring weaknesses, especially that center position that kind
- 32:55Speaker 6: of gave me a pause of, is this something that
- 32:58Speaker 6: can be reliable the entire season? Or was it just
- 33:00Speaker 6: because we were going against Kentucky that we were able
- 33:03Speaker 6: to create those explosive plays in the run game? So yeah,
- 33:07Speaker 6: overall as an offense, when you look at Alabama, I
- 33:10Speaker 6: wouldn't say I'm extremely confident that this offense is going
- 33:13Speaker 6: to be scoring 40-plus points a week, but when it's
- 33:16Speaker 6: all said and done, I don't think you have to.
- 33:18Speaker 6: I think this defense, what it showed me last week,
- 33:20Speaker 6: because we knew the secondary was going to be good, man,
- 33:23Speaker 6: they're big, they're fast, they're physical, they get after the quarterback,
- 33:25Speaker 6: they can stop the run. This defense is going to
- 33:27Speaker 6: be one of the best defenses in the SEC. So
- 33:30Speaker 6: to me, it's like, can we just continue to put
- 33:33Speaker 6: Keelan in a position where he feels comfortable, not put
- 33:35Speaker 6: him in bad situations, which I think they did a
- 33:37Speaker 6: couple times last week, and just trust that our defense
- 33:40Speaker 6: is going to win us a lot of these football games.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I apologize for always asking you football questions more than
- 33:46Speaker 1: broadcasting questions. I want to pick your football brain. But,
- 33:49Speaker 1: you know, I follow up this Dante Moore tipping his
- 33:53Speaker 1: pass play, run play thing, and I want to ask
- 33:55Speaker 1: you about as a quarterback, how much of that's on Dante?
- 33:59Speaker 1: How much is on the quarterback room? Everybody's in there, QB2, QB3.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Do you guys help each other out? with things like
- 34:06Speaker 1: that and how much of that is on coaching is,
- 34:08Speaker 1: and it could be D all of the above. Walk
- 34:10Speaker 1: me through that. I mean, did you ever tip anything?
- 34:12Speaker 1: Do you find yourself catching yourself doing some things?
- 34:16Speaker 4: No, no.
- 34:17Speaker 6: I mean, you may cheat. You may cheat a little bit,
- 34:22Speaker 6: like as a snaps going, like maybe moving your feet
- 34:24Speaker 6: at the last second, but nothing, you know, pre-snap to
- 34:27Speaker 6: give it away. I think that's one on the coaches first,
- 34:30Speaker 6: because that's their job to look at, and especially self-scout.
- 34:33Speaker 6: You want to self-scout your players. So that's the entire
- 34:36Speaker 6: staff from hell, even the defense. I mean, the defensive staff,
- 34:39Speaker 6: as you're going through spring ball and fall camp, and
- 34:41Speaker 6: you're kind of going against your offense, you should be like,
- 34:44Speaker 6: Oh wow. Like our quarterbacks giving away this tail. Like
- 34:47Speaker 6: I like you, you do self-scouting and a lot of
- 34:49Speaker 6: times you wait to the bi-week to do that for your,
- 34:51Speaker 6: for your team or the defensive side of the offense,
- 34:53Speaker 6: offensive side of the defense. But that's a, that's a
- 34:56Speaker 6: coaching problem first that needs to get addressed. And then yes,
- 35:00Speaker 6: it's a, it's a quarterback next. Like you, you have
- 35:02Speaker 6: to be aware of what you're doing. with everything, whether
- 35:07Speaker 6: it's the way that you approach the line of scrimmage
- 35:09Speaker 6: and ID the mic, whether it's your footwork, whatever it
- 35:13Speaker 6: may be. There's too many camera angles. There's too much
- 35:17Speaker 6: film out there. And obviously a lot of these guys
- 35:19Speaker 6: watch the TV broadcast as well, where you have to
- 35:22Speaker 6: be careful the signals and the tips you're giving. So
- 35:24Speaker 6: I wouldn't blame the backup quarterbacks. They're just worried about themselves.
- 35:28Speaker 6: So it really goes coaches one, and then I would
- 35:30Speaker 6: say QB second with getting that right.
- 35:33Speaker 1: Aaron murray is with us sec network mississippi state south
- 35:36Speaker 1: carolina the 315 game you see her in a lot
- 35:39Speaker 1: in prime time he'll be on the 315 central time
- 35:41Speaker 1: game this week uh speaking of prime time we are
- 35:44Speaker 1: contractually obligated to ask you about lsu omiss you played
- 35:48Speaker 1: for a coach that uh i don't think ever pissed
- 35:51Speaker 1: anybody off he was such a nice guy other than
- 35:54Speaker 1: the one situation with florida but you weren't on that
- 35:56Speaker 1: team on the celebration penalty you weren't there yet um
- 36:00Speaker 1: So I don't know that you ever played in a
- 36:01Speaker 1: game that was hotly contested like this. Maybe I am incorrect.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Maybe I'm forgetting one, Aaron, but how do you manage
- 36:08Speaker 1: emotions in a situation like this? That seems like that
- 36:10Speaker 1: is going to be a massive storyline Saturday night.
- 36:12Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:13Speaker 2: It's so funny.
- 36:14Speaker 6: You talk, you bring up coach Rick. Cause I was with, um, uh,
- 36:17Speaker 6: champ Bailey and, and, and Brandon Boykin yesterday, we do
- 36:19Speaker 6: a local show in Atlanta and, you know, Boykin asked
- 36:21Speaker 6: us that question. Like, what if coach Rick left? Obviously
- 36:24Speaker 6: champ was not with coach Rick, but you asked Morris
- 36:26Speaker 6: me like, what if coach Rick left? And, went to,
- 36:29Speaker 6: you know, Tennessee or whatever, like, would that, would that
- 36:31Speaker 6: add more fire to you for that game? I was like,
- 36:33Speaker 6: you know, like for me personally, like I approach every
- 36:35Speaker 6: game the same. Did I have teammates that maybe had
- 36:38Speaker 6: a little bit too much of a good time during
- 36:40Speaker 6: the week and maybe went out on a Thursday. So like,
- 36:42Speaker 6: maybe they would focus in a little bit more on
- 36:44Speaker 6: a bigger game or if there was some extra fuel
- 36:47Speaker 6: to the fire, like, yeah. So like, yes, you'll get
- 36:49Speaker 6: more of Ole Miss locked in this week than maybe
- 36:53Speaker 6: other weeks, which is great for, for them as, as
- 36:56Speaker 6: they get ready for it. But, I think for LSU,
- 37:00Speaker 6: they proved to us, and I said this all heading
- 37:02Speaker 6: into week one, because Lane has always been in the
- 37:04Speaker 6: news and always been a distraction. Lane knows how to
- 37:07Speaker 6: get his guys ready. And that was a talk week
- 37:10Speaker 6: one of, oh, it was as LSU distracted with all
- 37:12Speaker 6: this craziness about NFL players and this and the other.
- 37:14Speaker 6: And I was like, no, Lane's been there, done that.
- 37:17Speaker 6: He knows how to get a team ready. And they
- 37:18Speaker 6: went out there and they dominated Clemson. So LSU will
- 37:20Speaker 6: be fine. I'm not worried about LSU not mentally being
- 37:23Speaker 6: ready and being distracted for this game. I do worry
- 37:26Speaker 6: about Ole Miss players trying to do too much. And
- 37:31Speaker 6: we see that a lot, especially on defense. When guys
- 37:34Speaker 6: are trying to make a statement, they're not playing with
- 37:37Speaker 6: inside the scheme. They're not staying in their gap. They're
- 37:41Speaker 6: trying to hit the quarterback or do something they're not
- 37:43Speaker 6: supposed to do because they're trying to make a highlight
- 37:45Speaker 6: play to send a statement to Lane Kiffin and the offense.
- 37:50Speaker 6: So yes, for that side of the football specifically, they
- 37:53Speaker 6: have to calm their nerves and play inside the offense
- 37:57Speaker 6: and just go out there and do their thing for
- 37:58Speaker 6: Pete Golding. But I like LSU in this game, boys.
- 38:01Speaker 6: I really do. I think at the end of the day,
- 38:04Speaker 6: there's a lot of talk about Lane Kiffin versus Pete Golding.
- 38:07Speaker 6: These guys have seen each other. They've gone against each
- 38:09Speaker 6: other in practice. They know their tendencies. If there's anyone
- 38:12Speaker 6: that I trust in college football, if I told them, hey,
- 38:15Speaker 6: this is what a defense does and this is their DNA,
- 38:18Speaker 6: I trust Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weiss Jr. to get
- 38:20Speaker 6: some guys open. And we saw Louisville in week one
- 38:23Speaker 6: get some guys wide open, that quarterback missed even a
- 38:26Speaker 6: couple of them, hit some of them as well. I
- 38:28Speaker 6: think you may see some guys wide freaking open this
- 38:31Speaker 6: weekend for the LSU Tigers.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Two weeks in, it's always tough to evaluate. But when
- 38:36Speaker 2: we get to November, and both things can be right,
- 38:38Speaker 2: do you think we're going to be saying Clemson was
- 38:40Speaker 2: that bad or LSU was that good?
- 38:44Speaker 6: I think we're going to say both. I think LSU's
- 38:47Speaker 6: defense is for real. I think you've seen Baker on
- 38:50Speaker 6: that side of the football and the improvements that defense
- 38:52Speaker 6: has made. over the past two seasons. And it's hard
- 38:55Speaker 6: not to turn the tape and see, you know, Daughtery
- 38:58Speaker 6: and Weeks and Uman Mielin and Ross and just the
- 39:01Speaker 6: speed of that front seven. And then obviously the length
- 39:03Speaker 6: of the back end, like that defense is, is that
- 39:07Speaker 6: defense travels that defense, just like I talked about Alabama, like, Oh,
- 39:10Speaker 6: is that defense is good. They just played Kentucky. No,
- 39:13Speaker 6: like you can turn on the tape and tell when
- 39:14Speaker 6: a defense is top notch. And I think LSU is,
- 39:17Speaker 6: has a top-notch defense. The offense will continue to improve.
- 39:23Speaker 6: I still think Sam Levitt, because of the fact that
- 39:25Speaker 6: he missed a lot of time due to the injury,
- 39:28Speaker 6: will get more comfortable in the offense. I love the
- 39:31Speaker 6: skill possessions. Obviously, we love trade as green. I think,
- 39:33Speaker 6: you know, I still don't think we talk enough about
- 39:35Speaker 6: Eugene Wilson. I remember, you know, when he was rolling
- 39:37Speaker 6: at Florida, like that guy is a hell of an
- 39:39Speaker 6: athlete at the receiving position. So I think the offense
- 39:42Speaker 6: will continue to get better. So I think it's I
- 39:43Speaker 6: think it could be both. I think LSU is the
- 39:46Speaker 6: real deal. And I can also say that I am
- 39:48Speaker 6: worried that Clemson could be 7-5 this season.
- 39:52Speaker 1: This was a fantastic interview. You were terrific, but the
- 39:55Speaker 1: single best part of it is Jim spent the entire
- 39:57Speaker 1: first segment trying to say Prince's last name correctly, and
- 40:00Speaker 1: I don't think he ever did. I think I'm sending
- 40:02Speaker 1: you guys an emoji with a middle finger right now.
- 40:04Speaker 1: I've got the pronunciation right here. It's got a G
- 40:06Speaker 1: on the end.
- 40:07Speaker 2: You reeled it off like he's.
- 40:08Speaker 6: Uman Mielin.
- 40:10Speaker 2: Uman Mielin.
- 40:11Speaker 5: Right?
- 40:11Speaker 2: Am I saying it wrong?
- 40:12Speaker 1: No, I think you nailed it, but the pronunciation that
- 40:15Speaker 1: I'm looking at says the last part sounds like me-ling. Me-ling.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I'm going Aaron Murray. I'm going SEC's all-time winning passer.
- 40:23Speaker 6: Uman Ming-Ellen?
- 40:24Speaker 1: No.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Aaron, don't do this. Don't let it get in your head.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Don't overthink it. Don't overthink it. I don't have LSU
- 40:30Speaker 2: this weekend.
- 40:30Speaker 6: If I do have them, I'll make sure I have
- 40:32Speaker 6: it down pat.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Trust me, I'm the guy you did not want in
- 40:35Speaker 1: the quarterback room with you. I'd have had you looking
- 40:37Speaker 1: at ghosts all the time.
- 40:39Speaker 7: Jim, this is an AI recap. This isn't anything like official.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I know. Dunaway has bitten into an AI recap. And
- 40:45Speaker 1: Aaron said it like he's related to the guy. And
- 40:47Speaker 1: Dunaway's questioning him.
- 40:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Aaron, thank you very much for the time. Great talking
- 40:51Speaker 1: with you. That will be a fantastic game you've got Saturday.
- 40:53Speaker 1: We look forward to it.
- 40:53Speaker 6: Appreciate it, guys. Have a good one.
- 40:55Speaker 4: All right, man.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Take care of that.
- 40:56Speaker 1: It's Aaron Murray with us on the show. I'm going
- 40:59Speaker 1: SEC all-time leading passer, SEC network employee, getting it right.
- 41:02Speaker 1: I'm just saying, you're like AI recap, Jim. Where do
- 41:05Speaker 1: you think freaking AI got it from?
- 41:06Speaker 2: That's right.
- 41:07Speaker 1: They steal it off of information that's out there.
- 41:09Speaker 7: They pull it from anywhere. Any idiot that just posts something,
- 41:13Speaker 7: they steal from Reddit.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 41:15Speaker 7: All right.
- 41:16Speaker 2: They don't steal from Reddit.
- 41:18Speaker 7: They do. There was a trash story I had.
- 41:20Speaker 1: The data center I'm building in my neighborhood will not
- 41:23Speaker 1: steal from Reddit.
- 41:24Speaker 2: It will.
- 41:25Speaker 7: The Google recap took, I think it was putting nail
- 41:31Speaker 7: polish into a waffle recipe or something. I had it
- 41:34Speaker 7: in trash like a year ago.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Delicious, delicious, by the way.
- 41:37Speaker 1: You've never tasted it. Listen, I'm leaving Bentbrook yesterday after
- 41:40Speaker 1: playing golf. Big sign. Hand-painted now. So it wasn't like
- 41:44Speaker 1: an official sign. Ox from here to make them take
- 41:46Speaker 1: it down. Right out was getting ready to turn left
- 41:48Speaker 1: or right out of Bentbrook.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Big sign.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I mean, it looks like it was one of our
- 41:52Speaker 1: Tuesday dry erase boards. It said, no data centers. I
- 41:57Speaker 1: don't even know where they're trying to build one. Whoever
- 41:59Speaker 1: wrote that sign.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Is like, no data centers. They're trying to build them
- 42:03Speaker 2: in McCollum. Did you put that sign up? No, no.
- 42:06Speaker 2: It's the very rural.
- 42:08Speaker 3: Jefferson County people out in unincorporated Jefferson County that are
- 42:11Speaker 3: very anti data center.
- 42:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Don't think that sign is going to prevent it.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Yeah. They're not going to look at that side. It's like,
- 42:16Speaker 1: Oh God, we can't build here.
- 42:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 7: I didn't have an anti data center sentiment in a
- 42:20Speaker 7: rural Shelby County as well.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I didn't have a vote. I, you know, I was like,
- 42:24Speaker 1: I gave it a thumbs up and I was still
- 42:26Speaker 1: steaming over a three putt on 18.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:29Speaker 1: They're all over the place.
- 42:31Speaker 2: I don't blame them. I don't blame them. All right.
- 42:33Speaker 1: When we come back, uh, we'll do some more college football.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Got a lot of NFL to get to as well
- 42:37Speaker 1: as we'll, uh, do our hard rock bets uh odds
- 42:41Speaker 1: of teams to bounce back from all one starts and
- 42:44Speaker 1: still go on maybe to win a super bowl that
- 42:46Speaker 1: conversation continues on right here the next round presented by
- 42:49Speaker 1: hard rock bets on sporting state we were just talking
- 42:53Speaker 1: stakes in the commercial break and i usually throw mine
- 42:56Speaker 1: either on the grill or the big green about back
- 42:59Speaker 1: and uh And it was raining when those pop-up storms
- 43:03Speaker 1: came in. So I preheated it at 450, and then
- 43:07Speaker 1: I kept it in the black skillet and just put
- 43:08Speaker 1: it in the oven.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Do you keep it in the black skillet? No. So
- 43:10Speaker 2: what I do is I do four minutes each side
- 43:12Speaker 2: on the black skillet, and then I throw it. It
- 43:14Speaker 2: looks like a burn victim. Does it get super dark? No,
- 43:19Speaker 2: it gets a good char, but it's still rare plus
- 43:22Speaker 2: in the middle. And then I'll throw it in the
- 43:24Speaker 2: oven at 475 on broil for four minutes. And that's
- 43:27Speaker 2: all I do. New York butcher shop, just straight up seasoned.
- 43:31Speaker 1: You go four, four, and then you don't flip it
- 43:33Speaker 1: when you put it in.
- 43:34Speaker 2: You just put it in. Okay. With full on the top. Yeah.
- 43:37Speaker 1: My problem is.
- 43:38Speaker 2: I didn't do mine. I just seared it really quick,
- 43:40Speaker 2: really hot black skillet.
- 43:42Speaker 1: And I just put the black skillet in at 450
- 43:43Speaker 1: for five minutes. I, I, I always say the best
- 43:47Speaker 1: way to eat a steak is the way you like
- 43:49Speaker 1: it best. So I never try to tell anybody that's
- 43:50Speaker 1: a bad way to do it. I just don't like
- 43:52Speaker 1: a lot of sear on my meat. So when I
- 43:54Speaker 1: always grill mine and I grill it up off the flame,
- 43:57Speaker 1: I just don't like the sear.
- 43:59Speaker 2: I like a little sear. I put the olive oil
- 44:03Speaker 2: in the pan.
- 44:03Speaker 1: I will say I have seen debates on both sides
- 44:06Speaker 1: of this. I don't know who's right to the point
- 44:08Speaker 1: that I guess I don't even think about it really.
- 44:10Speaker 1: But a lot of people say you have to sear
- 44:11Speaker 1: it to keep the juices in. And there are a
- 44:13Speaker 1: lot of people that say, nope, that is not the
- 44:15Speaker 1: way to do it, that it doesn't keep– I mean,
- 44:16Speaker 1: I'm talking like chefs. Yeah. They're divided on that, whether
- 44:19Speaker 1: you sear it.
- 44:19Speaker 2: Or not, to keep the juices in. Well, see, and
- 44:21Speaker 2: I grilled mine forever, but I think the flavor is
- 44:23Speaker 2: so much better this way. Interesting.
- 44:24Speaker 1: See, I like tasting– I grill mine over hickory, and
- 44:26Speaker 1: I like tasting the hickory on it. I like tasting
- 44:28Speaker 1: the smoke. Yeah, that hickory smoke, man, that sets a
- 44:31Speaker 1: steak off for me. Me too. It takes me back
- 44:33Speaker 1: to my caveman days. Hey, our friends at Clay Travis

- 45:27Speaker 2: big or too small.
- 45:28Speaker 1: Okay, I was going to tease, and I forgot to
- 45:31Speaker 1: do this before the break, Coming up, I'll explain cockfight
- 45:36Speaker 1: in the tub. I did not do that tease. which
- 45:38Speaker 1: would have been a really good tease, I thought. A
- 45:41Speaker 1: cockfight in a tub. Cockfight in a tub. That would
- 45:43Speaker 1: have kept you watching through the commercial break, right?
- 45:45Speaker 6: Yeah, absolutely.
- 45:45Speaker 2: I don't think the cocks are going to like it
- 45:47Speaker 2: because they're not going to get any gripping.
- 45:49Speaker 7: I was scouring the internet and came across the cockfight
- 45:52Speaker 7: in the tub and decided to share it with everyone.
- 45:54Speaker 1: Give me Forrester's microphone here. Cockfight in the cup.
- 45:59Speaker 2: Cockfight. Yo. Where's that on your mind there, Donnelly?
- 46:03Speaker 1: Cockfight in the tub. Is a football game happening this weekend?
- 46:06Speaker 2: Is that right, Forrester?
- 46:07Speaker 1: It is.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Explain it to everybody.
- 46:11Speaker 4: Well, I guess the Delaware Blue Hens are taking on
- 46:14Speaker 4: the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
- 46:17Speaker 2: Which are both chickens. That's correct.
- 46:20Speaker 4: And Delaware Stadium is nicknamed The Tub.
- 46:25Speaker 2: It is Tubby Raymond Field.
- 46:26Speaker 1: The Tub.
- 46:27Speaker 4: So, therefore, we got a cockfight in the tub.
- 46:29Speaker 2: Yeah, not the first time for some people. This is
- 46:32Speaker 2: something that is being promoted that I think a lot
- 46:34Speaker 2: of people want nothing to do with, right?
- 46:36Speaker 1: I kind of like the T-shirt, to be honest with you.
- 46:38Speaker 2: I like that.
- 46:39Speaker 1: I'm a big fan of a light blue on gray.
- 46:41Speaker 2: That's a good look, yeah. That's a lot going on
- 46:43Speaker 2: with that shirt. It is, it is.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Cockfight in the tub, though. Yeah, that's too– Not every
- 46:47Speaker 1: day you get that. Man, you get– man, I don't
- 46:50Speaker 1: know who to pick there. Which team is bigger?
- 46:52Speaker 2: Who's that? Who's the favorite? Who's got the bigger cock?
- 46:56Speaker 2: Who's the underdog?
- 46:56Speaker 6: Oh, what?
- 46:57Speaker 3: Let's be, I am uncertain on something here. They are
- 47:01Speaker 3: the fighting blue hens, which are ladies, correct?
- 47:04Speaker 2: Uh-oh.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Right. Well, no.
- 47:07Speaker 2: I've seen blue hens fight for it, too.
- 47:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 47:10Speaker 1: Me, too.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Me, too.
- 47:11Speaker 1: God bless them. God bless them. God bless them. I'm
- 47:17Speaker 1: going to take the blue hens in an upset right here.
- 47:20Speaker 2: I'm with Lance. I think they're more desperate. I think
- 47:25Speaker 2: at that point, blue hens are more desperate. Yeah, maybe.
- 47:27Speaker 1: The Chanticleer is a rooster.
- 47:29Speaker 2: A fighting one, right? Yeah. Such an uppity.
- 47:33Speaker 6: It is.
- 47:33Speaker 1: As a student at Jacksonville State University, our school paper
- 47:36Speaker 1: was named the Chanticleer, so I learned very early what
- 47:38Speaker 1: that meant.
- 47:39Speaker 2: It is a fighting rooster.
- 47:41Speaker 1: Did you first think it was a light fixture? I
- 47:44Speaker 1: really had no idea what it was when I got
- 47:45Speaker 1: to Jack State. Is that a smaller chandelier? The first
- 47:48Speaker 1: time I saw the school paper, I was like, I
- 47:49Speaker 1: had to sound it out. So I looked it up.
- 47:52Speaker 2: I found out what it was.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Hey, by the way, the Delaware Blue Hens are a
- 47:56Speaker 4: four and a half point favorite.
- 47:58Speaker 2: Oh, there we go. Desperation. That's one thing this weekend.
- 48:03Speaker 1: How about this thing being built at Neyland Stadium outside?
- 48:06Speaker 1: It's got a name now, 865 Neyland. It's the mixed
- 48:10Speaker 1: development that's going on that will open up in 2028,
- 48:14Speaker 1: beautiful pictures and renderings. What's amazing about this, you'll have
- 48:18Speaker 1: indoor-outdoor space outside of Neyland Stadium connecting to the hotel there,
- 48:23Speaker 1: 24-story hotel, meeting space, gathering space, and 3,000 feet of
- 48:30Speaker 1: LED displays and screens throughout this, gathering places to watch
- 48:35Speaker 1: games and everything.
- 48:37Speaker 2: This looks fantastic. Yeah, you guys have been to Knoxville
- 48:41Speaker 2: for games. It's one of my favorite road trips. Yeah,
- 48:43Speaker 2: I think Knoxville is just, it's become a really, really
- 48:46Speaker 2: fun city, the downtown area. But, you know, back in
- 48:49Speaker 2: the day, you know, 15, 20 years ago, there wasn't,
- 48:52Speaker 2: you know, you go to the Strip, O'Charlie was a
- 48:54Speaker 2: big thing. Like, Tennessee has needed something like this.
- 48:57Speaker 1: I would say any school that has the land available,
- 49:01Speaker 1: any big school that has the land available, will look
- 49:02Speaker 1: at doing something like this, wouldn't you think?
- 49:04Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Like, I think specifically of Tuscaloosa. The land is there,
- 49:10Speaker 1: but it's covered by things. I mean, you're going to
- 49:12Speaker 1: have to either relocate a cemetery, sorority houses, or a
- 49:16Speaker 1: fraternity house to do this. And then you've got roads
- 49:19Speaker 1: that are issues.
- 49:20Speaker 2: We've already seen houses relocated. The cemetery's going to be difficult.
- 49:23Speaker 1: The cemetery's going to be tricky.
- 49:24Speaker 2: I think of Auburn.
- 49:26Speaker 1: I was playing golf yesterday with an Auburn fan that
- 49:28Speaker 1: was like, hey, it's kind of a mess to get
- 49:29Speaker 1: in there this year because of that south end zone renovation.
- 49:31Speaker 2: That's right.
- 49:33Speaker 1: And apparently that was kind of the area he went in,
- 49:35Speaker 1: and he's like, you have to go all the way around.
- 49:38Speaker 2: So it was.
- 49:39Speaker 1: You know, they're doing that, but that's just to build
- 49:40Speaker 1: suites right there. But if you try to do this
- 49:43Speaker 1: at Auburn, there's just not the land available. If you
- 49:45Speaker 1: do it in Tuscaloosa, I mean, the land is there.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Like I just said, you just got to clear stuff
- 49:49Speaker 1: off of it. Yeah, there's always something you got to
- 49:51Speaker 1: clear off. Right. And, I mean, Tennessee did that.
- 49:54Speaker 2: Money talks.
- 49:55Speaker 1: And I would imagine anybody that could do this would
- 49:57Speaker 1: do it. Some of the best video pops up on
- 50:01Speaker 1: social media. There's literally a place called Sleepy Hollow, New York.
- 50:07Speaker 1: It's got a great golf course there.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Sleepy Hollow New.
- 50:09Speaker 1: York has a high school, and they are called the Horsemen.
- 50:14Speaker 6: Uh-huh.
- 50:16Speaker 1: And they enter their high school football games like this,
- 50:19Speaker 1: out of the woods.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Heck, yeah.
- 50:21Speaker 1: With a headless horseman leading the way. And if you
- 50:25Speaker 1: get a good look, I mean, that horseman is spot
- 50:28Speaker 1: on without a head there.
- 50:29Speaker 2: I assume they're peeking out of the chest plate there.
- 50:32Speaker 2: He's got to be. But look at that. How fantastic
- 50:34Speaker 2: is that? That's pretty awesome.
- 50:37Speaker 1: Tyler, can you Google search the logo of Sleepy Hollow
- 50:42Speaker 1: Horseman High School in New York?
- 50:44Speaker 2: Now, no fans there for high school football on a
- 50:46Speaker 2: day game in New York. It doesn't look like cheerleaders
- 50:48Speaker 2: are too pumped either.
- 50:50Speaker 1: But what an entrance there. You can imagine that. But
- 50:53Speaker 1: look at this logo.
- 50:54Speaker 2: Oh, that's an awesome logo.
- 50:54Speaker 1: This is one of the best logos I've ever seen ever.
- 50:58Speaker 2: That is fantastic.
- 50:59Speaker 1: You've got a pumpkin and a Headless Horseman logo.
- 51:03Speaker 2: That is spot on.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Yeah i like that hollow new york if you're watching
- 51:08Speaker 1: man send us gear that's good looking.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Gear texas tech meets what's the uh halloween store.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Uh do uh do sleepy hollow golf uh sleepy hollow
- 51:19Speaker 1: country club that's a that's a course in sleepy hollow
- 51:22Speaker 1: they've got a very good course logo too and this
- 51:25Speaker 1: is a top 100 course right they have a they
- 51:27Speaker 1: have a logo oh yeah Do you have.
- 51:30Speaker 2: A coffee table book of just golf courses around the country?
- 51:32Speaker 1: Lance, I know way more about golf than I should.
- 51:34Speaker 1: That's a great logo, though. Don't you agree?
- 51:36Speaker 2: For a golf course logo?
- 51:37Speaker 6: Yeah. Okay.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Jim with a very tepid yes.
- 51:39Speaker 5: No, no.
- 51:39Speaker 2: I mean, it is.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Look at that clubhouse.
- 51:42Speaker 5: Wow.
- 51:43Speaker 2: Is that insane? That is out of my price point.
- 51:46Speaker 1: You think the initiation fee is a bit high there?
- 51:48Speaker 2: Yeah, probably.
- 51:49Speaker 1: When we come back, NFL and college football conversations continue.
- 51:53Speaker 1: We'll do a little... Hard Rock bets buy and sell
- 51:57Speaker 1: on some NFL teams after week number one. A couple
- 52:01Speaker 1: of injuries to tell you about. Landon Dickerson is out
- 52:06Speaker 1: for a while with a knee. Jacoby Lane's out, wrist surgery,
- 52:10Speaker 1: but they expect to get him back very soon. Sam
- 52:13Speaker 1: Darnall has a different timeline, but all positive for the Seahawks.
- 52:16Speaker 1: It's been a week since they played their week one game.
- 52:18Speaker 1: We're almost to week two tomorrow night. And it was
- 52:21Speaker 1: last Wednesday. It feels like a month ago that the
- 52:23Speaker 1: Rams played and the Seahawks played. He gets a whole
- 52:25Speaker 1: week of rehab before we even move out of week one.
- 52:28Speaker 1: It's pretty good for Sam Darnold there. A little NFL
- 52:30Speaker 1: conversation and back to college football when we do our
- 52:33Speaker 1: number two of the next round, presented by Hard Rock
- 52:35Speaker 1: Bets here on Sporting State.
