- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is Spoil Me,
- 0:09Speaker 1: covering One Piece, episodes 922 and 923. A tale of chivalry,
- 0:13Speaker 1: Zorro and Toniasu's little trip, and a state of emergency.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Big Mom closes in. In these episodes, we get to
- 0:35Speaker 1: see what it is that Zorro has been up to.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm over here thinking that, like, maybe there's something keeping
- 0:44Speaker 1: him against his will, but he's just gambling. Okay. Wow.
- 0:51Speaker 1: And also, that second title promised a lot more than
- 0:57Speaker 1: I got. I was so excited to really, like, get
- 1:00Speaker 1: to see Big Mom closing in for a minute and
- 1:03Speaker 1: it's pretty much the end of the episode so I'll
- 1:06Speaker 1: just say that I'm looking forward to the next one
- 1:09Speaker 1: even more welcome to spoil me Welcome to the show, everyone.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I am Natasha. Thank you very much to Michael for
- 1:36Speaker 1: commissioning this episode. Hey, Michael. Appreciate you. So, yeah, these
- 1:44Speaker 1: two episodes I actually really enjoyed. There is a new
- 1:48Speaker 1: dude that we're meeting who is a foodie. I don't
- 1:53Speaker 1: know if I really want to say a foodie because, like,
- 1:56Speaker 1: that really... He's a hedonist. I guess is what you
- 2:03Speaker 1: would say. He is somebody who, while he does enjoy food,
- 2:07Speaker 1: it's not really about the food for him. He is
- 2:11Speaker 1: much more about the experience of indulgence. And he is
- 2:17Speaker 1: buds with bro that I do not like, who I
- 2:21Speaker 1: think might actually be the slasher guy. So I guess
- 2:25Speaker 1: we'll have to see about that. The slasher thing is
- 2:28Speaker 1: a weird plot for me because it, The way that
- 2:34Speaker 1: it went with Zorro, it was just sort of introduced
- 2:38Speaker 1: and then apparently solved within the same episode. But there
- 2:42Speaker 1: weren't really, like, the consequences are solely that he is
- 2:49Speaker 1: being seen as the slasher himself. And so they're chasing him.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But we only since then have seen one other person
- 3:00Speaker 1: get slashed. And there isn't a lot of talk about
- 3:05Speaker 1: that considering that like everybody thought, you know, I was
- 3:10Speaker 1: expecting maybe for the manhunt to be like redoubled for
- 3:14Speaker 1: Zorro because like there was another incident of it and
- 3:17Speaker 1: they still think it's him. But that doesn't seem to
- 3:20Speaker 1: really be what's happening here. So I keep getting confused
- 3:24Speaker 1: about what priority that holds in the story. But it
- 3:27Speaker 1: doesn't matter much. I just have this like mental... expectation
- 3:33Speaker 1: due to how much like, you know, true crime and
- 3:37Speaker 1: procedural drama I consume and the way that this sort
- 3:41Speaker 1: of thing would normally be played up as like, Oh,
- 3:43Speaker 1: the whole town is so on edge. Even though in
- 3:46Speaker 1: my experience, that's not really how people react. Like they
- 3:51Speaker 1: will mostly assume that this happens to other people and
- 3:54Speaker 1: not themselves. And they don't often get as paranoid as
- 3:57Speaker 1: they maybe should be. But, um, I'm getting ahead of
- 4:01Speaker 1: myself here. So the first episode, A Tale of Chivalry,
- 4:06Speaker 1: Zoro and Tonoyasu's Little Trip. Tonoyasu, right? That's how you
- 4:15Speaker 1: say that? Tonoyasu is a real weirdo. I do not
- 4:24Speaker 1: know what to make of what's going on here. He
- 4:29Speaker 1: has Zorro, like, come with him to his village. And
- 4:35Speaker 1: everybody is laughing in a way that I don't care for.
- 4:41Speaker 1: You guys know how much I value humor. But there's, like,
- 4:45Speaker 1: a point where it just crosses over to really creepy.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And initially I was just like, oh, this is just circumstantial.
- 4:53Speaker 1: But as he continues talking, I keep thinking back to
- 4:57Speaker 1: how they met. And I keep wondering, how coincidental is this?
- 5:03Speaker 1: How much does this look like a setup? And how
- 5:09Speaker 1: much does this look like I just prey on people
- 5:12Speaker 1: at the casino all the time? I can't figure out.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So he tells him his name and he also says
- 5:20Speaker 1: something like how he's known as the number one sycophant,
- 5:25Speaker 1: I think. Something like that. Which is really funny because
- 5:29Speaker 1: his whole deal is just kissing Zoro's ass throughout the
- 5:33Speaker 1: dice game and telling him that he's just unstoppable. And
- 5:37Speaker 1: I really, really thought initially that he was in on
- 5:42Speaker 1: the scam with the dice to begin with. And it
- 5:48Speaker 1: doesn't look like he was, but honestly, it's still kind
- 5:51Speaker 1: of in my head. So... Zoro is playing dice. And
- 5:58Speaker 1: like I said, the last time that we see Zoro
- 6:02Speaker 1: when he wanders in the wrong direction is him getting
- 6:06Speaker 1: on like a canoe or a boat. I can't even
- 6:09Speaker 1: remember specifically what. I thought that he was making his
- 6:13Speaker 1: way back to our people. And it just does not
- 6:17Speaker 1: seem like much of a priority for him. It's a
- 6:21Speaker 1: very different energy than I'm used to seeing with Zoro
- 6:24Speaker 1: because him getting lost all the time is his whole thing.
- 6:27Speaker 1: But normally, his attempts to get back to his own
- 6:33Speaker 1: people are at the forefront of things. He might get
- 6:39Speaker 1: detoured to get in a fight with somebody, but it
- 6:43Speaker 1: will just be a fight that he stumbles across that
- 6:48Speaker 1: sometimes has nothing to do with him or with the
- 6:50Speaker 1: main story. And we just get a moment to see
- 6:53Speaker 1: him being underestimated and then what a badass he is
- 6:57Speaker 1: and then he returns to his attempts to find the
- 7:00Speaker 1: rest of the crew this like lackadaisical i'll get there
- 7:07Speaker 1: when i get there sort of energy is kind of
- 7:11Speaker 1: weird coming from him and i don't know what to
- 7:16Speaker 1: think of it i'm i'm I'm not really sure that
- 7:20Speaker 1: this is so much like Zorro as it is while
- 7:25Speaker 1: we're doing a bit about a Ronin who is like
- 7:29Speaker 1: on the road and the people that he like runs into.
- 7:32Speaker 1: So we're going to have Zorro behave a little bit
- 7:35Speaker 1: out of character in order to play up that archetype,
- 7:40Speaker 1: which that might be what it is. It's not a
- 7:44Speaker 1: big deal, but it just keeps kind of throwing me.
- 7:47Speaker 1: when I see him to realize that like the urgency
- 7:51Speaker 1: from the whole rest of the crew about this mission
- 7:53Speaker 1: is not shared by him. And I think maybe if
- 7:57Speaker 1: I were more familiar with the archetype of the Ronin
- 8:01Speaker 1: as like a traveling badass, that it might work better
- 8:04Speaker 1: for me and not be so distracting because it would
- 8:07Speaker 1: be at the top of my mind. Oh, okay. I
- 8:10Speaker 1: see what we're doing, you know, but because it's not
- 8:14Speaker 1: something that is like really in my, you know, wheelhouse
- 8:19Speaker 1: that it just feels like, why isn't he as worried?
- 8:24Speaker 1: It almost makes me feel like he's like abandoning our people.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And I don't like feeling like that about him. I
- 8:31Speaker 1: don't want to feel like, you know, let down by Zorro,
- 8:35Speaker 1: even though he is notorious for just sort of sitting
- 8:39Speaker 1: back and let things spin out of control until he
- 8:41Speaker 1: finally steps in because he doesn't want to be bothered.
- 8:45Speaker 1: It's not like I ever, doubt that he's going to
- 8:48Speaker 1: step in and it's not like I'm surprised to see
- 8:52Speaker 1: him sit back and let things unfold because he just
- 8:57Speaker 1: wants to see what'll happen or because not even that
- 9:00Speaker 1: but like because he's I think he just feels like
- 9:06Speaker 1: I don't need to get involved it's like bringing out
- 9:09Speaker 1: a sledgehammer when you just need a regular hammer you
- 9:14Speaker 1: know but it is sort of I don't know. It's a,
- 9:18Speaker 1: a weird thing that it's not, he knows that like
- 9:25Speaker 1: we have this, this, the rest of the, like he
- 9:30Speaker 1: saw the rest of the crew arrive. Right. Like I'm
- 9:33Speaker 1: trying to remember. Seraphim says Zorro got lost before he
- 9:37Speaker 1: found out about the new plan to know he should
- 9:39Speaker 1: be more worried, but he was there to see that
- 9:43Speaker 1: the rest of the crew had reunited. Right. So that's
- 9:48Speaker 1: kind of the thing is like, even if you don't
- 9:50Speaker 1: know about the, the new plan, you know, that now
- 9:55Speaker 1: that everybody's together, they're going to be like hatching something
- 9:58Speaker 1: and likely, they're going to be waiting for you. And
- 10:04Speaker 1: if anything, the fact that he doesn't know what the
- 10:06Speaker 1: plan is or I don't know, it just it feels
- 10:11Speaker 1: a little bit weird. I don't know. Florian says, I
- 10:14Speaker 1: think Zorro likes the Ronin lifestyle. I could see him
- 10:16Speaker 1: settle in the land of Wano if he were not
- 10:18Speaker 1: with the Straw Hats. Like, at the end of the journey,
- 10:21Speaker 1: this is what his retirement would look like. And that's
- 10:23Speaker 1: exactly what I mean, though. Right? Like, I can understand
- 10:27Speaker 1: this for Zorro in a vacuum. But he has a
- 10:31Speaker 1: team that I thought he was committed to. And so this, like,
- 10:39Speaker 1: acting as if he's just on his own doesn't suit.
- 10:43Speaker 1: the Zorro that I thought I knew because he's, it's
- 10:46Speaker 1: like low key selfish actually. And I mean, one could
- 10:51Speaker 1: argue about some of his actions and whether they count
- 10:54Speaker 1: as selfish, but that's not an adjective that I would
- 10:56Speaker 1: really assign to him very often. Seraphim says at this point,
- 11:03Speaker 1: I think it's a case of he simply has no
- 11:06Speaker 1: idea what he's, what he's even supposed to be trying
- 11:11Speaker 1: to get. but again if you don't know and you
- 11:20Speaker 1: have a whole crew that you've been separated from and
- 11:24Speaker 1: they just got back together isn't that why you would
- 11:29Speaker 1: want to prioritize meeting up with them and figuring out
- 11:31Speaker 1: what's going on like it just every explanation is just
- 11:38Speaker 1: circling back to the same thing where I'm just like
- 11:42Speaker 1: Do you just not care? You know, that just keeps
- 11:45Speaker 1: being what it feels like. Anyway, so he is in
- 11:52Speaker 1: this gambling house and he is having a streak of luck.
- 11:57Speaker 1: And this is the sort of thing, because of the
- 12:02Speaker 1: way this guy is just up his ass the whole time,
- 12:06Speaker 1: I am really thinking this dude, Tonoyasu, I am thinking
- 12:12Speaker 1: that he is sort of like working for the casino
- 12:18Speaker 1: in order to like hype up their clientele and make
- 12:23Speaker 1: them get a little bit too fast and loose with
- 12:25Speaker 1: their money. Like, you know how that is where people
- 12:29Speaker 1: just become reckless. And so I'm, I was really, really
- 12:37Speaker 1: surprised later that, when this whole reveal happens and this
- 12:42Speaker 1: guy actually doesn't, he doesn't seem to be a part
- 12:47Speaker 1: of it in any way whatsoever. Cause he is actually
- 12:52Speaker 1: doing the casino a huge favor in the way of like,
- 12:58Speaker 1: I just, it's hard for me to say exactly how
- 13:05Speaker 1: vulnerable Zorro's ego is to this kind of hype up.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm not even trying to say that what he's doing
- 13:13Speaker 1: necessarily is working on Zorro. But there are plenty of
- 13:20Speaker 1: easily influenced folks that I think this would have an
- 13:23Speaker 1: effect on. And finding out also that he doesn't work
- 13:33Speaker 1: for the casino... makes it even weirder when I step
- 13:37Speaker 1: back and look at the fact that he's not doing
- 13:40Speaker 1: anything when he comes into this establishment, except finding somebody
- 13:45Speaker 1: to hype up. Cause like the way that he's prancing around,
- 13:50Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of casinos would just be
- 13:52Speaker 1: kind of like, dude, get out of here. You can't
- 13:55Speaker 1: do that. What are you like? Are you, are you,
- 13:57Speaker 1: if this were a table where we're playing cards and,
- 14:01Speaker 1: The way that he's prancing around would be seen as
- 14:03Speaker 1: potentially like, are you trying to look at our cards?
- 14:05Speaker 1: Are you using your hands when you flail around to
- 14:08Speaker 1: signal what cards I have to him? I know that's
- 14:10Speaker 1: not the situation right now because it's dice, but the
- 14:15Speaker 1: idea that he's allowed in here when he pays no money,
- 14:19Speaker 1: he doesn't play anything, is just kind of weird. But
- 14:25Speaker 1: Zoro's having this streak. This guy is hyping him up.
- 14:29Speaker 1: And then we find out that there is a cheat
- 14:35Speaker 1: happening here. And it is so interesting because it definitely
- 14:40Speaker 1: seems like the sort of thing that has precedent. Like
- 14:43Speaker 1: we've got, I have to assume historically, this is a thing,
- 14:49Speaker 1: but the way that the dice are played, they are
- 14:52Speaker 1: not out in the open. They are not just being
- 14:56Speaker 1: tossed and they hit the other wall and we see
- 14:58Speaker 1: how they land. it's almost like roulette where the dice
- 15:03Speaker 1: get shaken. And then after the cup is put down, Oh,
- 15:07Speaker 1: like they're shaking inside a cup. The cup is put
- 15:11Speaker 1: down so that you can't see the dice. And then
- 15:13Speaker 1: you have to guess whether it's odd or even numbers.
- 15:18Speaker 1: And then the guy lifts the cup and you know,
- 15:22Speaker 1: if you were right, you win. And there is underneath
- 15:27Speaker 1: as the tabletop, It's like made of wicker, some kind
- 15:32Speaker 1: of straw mat. And this makes it really easy for
- 15:39Speaker 1: somebody who is seated under the table to push the
- 15:45Speaker 1: dice with a needle through the straw, push the dice
- 15:52Speaker 1: over so that it is a different number. And thus
- 15:55Speaker 1: when the cup is removed, whatever you bet, even if
- 16:00Speaker 1: you were right, now you're not. Now, the only thing
- 16:05Speaker 1: that I am curious about how this would work is
- 16:09Speaker 1: in order to push the dice, you have to know one,
- 16:17Speaker 1: you have to know that the person was right and
- 16:20Speaker 1: that it is an even or odd number and that
- 16:23Speaker 1: you need to change it. And if, Then when you
- 16:29Speaker 1: push the dice from underneath, you need to push it
- 16:34Speaker 1: so that it isn't correct. You need to make sure
- 16:38Speaker 1: because you could easily like in the wrong direction. If
- 16:41Speaker 1: they guess, even you change what the numbers say, but
- 16:43Speaker 1: it's still an even number. Do you get what I'm saying?
- 16:46Speaker 1: So what I kept thinking about here was like, how
- 16:51Speaker 1: exactly the guy underneath can see the dice and determine
- 16:56Speaker 1: whether or not it's something that needs to be done.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I don't, I'm not saying that this is important for
- 17:04Speaker 1: one piece because I accept that, you know, Zorro would
- 17:08Speaker 1: have won. And then it turns out this guy is
- 17:10Speaker 1: switching it, but I'm thinking like this method of cheating
- 17:16Speaker 1: just feels so specific as to be referring to something
- 17:19Speaker 1: that really was done at one point. And so I'm
- 17:22Speaker 1: wondering when it really was done, how they overcame that problem.
- 17:27Speaker 1: it's just so interesting to me cheating at like what
- 17:32Speaker 1: should be standardized games. I find fascinating just because it
- 17:39Speaker 1: almost takes as much effort sometimes to cheat as it
- 17:43Speaker 1: does to simply like learn how to play well and
- 17:45Speaker 1: have skill. And I, obviously it's a different thing when
- 17:53Speaker 1: it's like the establishment itself is, is cheating you. But
- 17:58Speaker 1: I really am. There's the part of me that, like,
- 18:04Speaker 1: I can't help but always assume casinos are trying to
- 18:09Speaker 1: scam you. So even when I see that they're cheating
- 18:12Speaker 1: him and I'm like, oh, that's fucked up. I won't lie, guys.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Another part of me is like, well, you fucking shouldn't
- 18:17Speaker 1: be gambling right now, Zorro. Maybe this is what you
- 18:21Speaker 1: get for just completely abandoning the friends that you're supposed
- 18:25Speaker 1: to be finding. Maybe this is the punishment is that
- 18:28Speaker 1: you lose out on this money and maybe this will
- 18:31Speaker 1: get your ass back out the door doing what you're
- 18:33Speaker 1: meant to be fucking doing. Like not me rooting for
- 18:37Speaker 1: a fucking casino, but honestly, I was just so like
- 18:42Speaker 1: irritated with him. It reminded me of like when Luffy
- 18:47Speaker 1: is supposed to be rescuing. What is her name? Tomato?
- 18:57Speaker 1: I keep wanting to say tomato, like a tomato, but
- 19:00Speaker 1: like with a, with, you know, but that is not
- 19:03Speaker 1: her name. But I keep thinking about Luffy, like getting
- 19:08Speaker 1: sidelined in the middle of rescuing her to get in
- 19:12Speaker 1: this other fight. And me just being like, now is
- 19:15Speaker 1: not the time. What are you doing? And it's like
- 19:18Speaker 1: that for me. Seraphim says, if the wicker was loose enough,
- 19:24Speaker 1: you could see the bottom of the die. It could work.
- 19:28Speaker 1: That makes sense. And it would also make sense that
- 19:31Speaker 1: maybe if you're the person who is doing the shaking
- 19:34Speaker 1: of the die, that the wicker directly in front of
- 19:38Speaker 1: you is thinned out a little bit and that other
- 19:40Speaker 1: people wouldn't even be able to really see that. So
- 19:43Speaker 1: you have a specific spot that you put the dice.
- 19:49Speaker 1: That would work, yeah. Otama. Thank you, Florian. I'm like,
- 19:53Speaker 1: what the fuck am I thinking of? So anyway, what's
- 19:59Speaker 1: interesting in this scene as well is the fact that
- 20:04Speaker 1: there is no doubt whatsoever in Zoro's mind, apparently, that
- 20:11Speaker 1: his guess was right. And that when they're telling him
- 20:16Speaker 1: he was wrong, he knows that this is like a cheat.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I'm assuming that this is somehow him using hockey to
- 20:28Speaker 1: be able to tell me the observation hockey, perhaps. I
- 20:32Speaker 1: don't know, but there's just like, it's, it's the way
- 20:36Speaker 1: he squints his eyes when he's told he's wrong. the
- 20:40Speaker 1: first time it seems like he's just going, well, maybe,
- 20:45Speaker 1: maybe I just, maybe I just misread. Okay. And then
- 20:51Speaker 1: the second time he's like, okay, no, you're fucking with me.
- 20:53Speaker 1: This is, this is bullshit. Um, it is sort of
- 20:57Speaker 1: funny to try and scam somebody with observation hockey. I
- 21:01Speaker 1: know that like this kind of thing is not super common,
- 21:05Speaker 1: so there's no reason for them to like know that
- 21:08Speaker 1: he has it, but, When observation hockey exists and somebody
- 21:17Speaker 1: is on this kind of winning streak, this would be
- 21:20Speaker 1: the sort of thing that would get you thrown out
- 21:22Speaker 1: of an establishment. When you're having too good a streak
- 21:24Speaker 1: in poker, they assume that you're a card counter and
- 21:27Speaker 1: they escort you out. But because they are so confident
- 21:33Speaker 1: that they can fuck him, they are willing to let
- 21:35Speaker 1: him go here. It's just because he has this hockey,
- 21:40Speaker 1: he knows he's being scammed. Whereas if he were just
- 21:44Speaker 1: on a real lucky streak, he wouldn't be so sure
- 21:47Speaker 1: that this is wrong. So anyway, he employs no sword style,
- 21:56Speaker 1: which I'm going to be honest, guys, I'm sure that
- 21:59Speaker 1: he has used this before, but I don't remember him
- 22:03Speaker 1: having used it before. And when he shouted no sword style,
- 22:08Speaker 1: I just found that really great. I really immediately was like,
- 22:13Speaker 1: Oh my God. What just three sword style is funny
- 22:19Speaker 1: enough because it's such a bizarre, but no sword style
- 22:23Speaker 1: takes it to another level for me. I, yeah. So
- 22:29Speaker 1: he flips this table, reveals this dude who is hiding
- 22:33Speaker 1: under it, who is by the way, in just like
- 22:36Speaker 1: one of those, uh, Oh, my God. I keep wanting
- 22:41Speaker 1: to call it like a loincloth, but that's not what
- 22:44Speaker 1: it is. A clout, maybe, is what you call it.
- 22:49Speaker 1: This dude is just exposed for everybody. And again, I
- 22:56Speaker 1: am still over here thinking that this is, Tonoyasu was
- 23:00Speaker 1: in on it. So I'm thinking that he's going to
- 23:02Speaker 1: try and come up with like, oh, well, maybe that
- 23:04Speaker 1: guy's only there for such and such. But immediately he's like, oh,
- 23:08Speaker 1: there's a rat. And a bunch of, like, security turns up.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And Zorro says, wow, this place even provides punching bags.
- 23:20Speaker 1: You guys really do have everything. That is such a
- 23:26Speaker 1: great line. I am so sorry. But even as annoyed
- 23:31Speaker 1: as I was with him, I cackled at that a bit.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Everybody who is about to go up against him should
- 23:40Speaker 1: know better. Like once you, once this dude, first of all,
- 23:45Speaker 1: is able to clock that he's being scammed, but set
- 23:49Speaker 1: that aside. Once he says no sword style and he
- 23:53Speaker 1: just makes your whole table and like the roof of
- 23:57Speaker 1: your establishment tear off. That's when you realize you're not,
- 24:03Speaker 1: you're dealing with somebody you shouldn't be fucking with. So,
- 24:07Speaker 1: getting all of the security involved is just asking to
- 24:12Speaker 1: be embarrassed. And yeah, he puts them all down. And
- 24:16Speaker 1: then we get Tonya being like, so, uh, Hey, my
- 24:22Speaker 1: friend was on a real winning streak. I think you
- 24:26Speaker 1: might owe him some money. And that was when I
- 24:29Speaker 1: was truly surprised because I just kept thinking that maybe
- 24:32Speaker 1: he was in on it, even up to that point,
- 24:35Speaker 1: even when he said, Oh, there's a rat. Maybe he's
- 24:37Speaker 1: just pretending like, oh, how could I know? But once
- 24:40Speaker 1: he is advocating for Zorro to get his money, I
- 24:43Speaker 1: was like, oh, oh, okay. And I'll say that at
- 24:50Speaker 1: least he isn't ever lying about his intentions from the beginning.
- 24:57Speaker 1: he says something about how I can see that you
- 25:01Speaker 1: are a winner and sticking around you. I won't be
- 25:04Speaker 1: able to go wrong or everything is going to work
- 25:07Speaker 1: out or essentially I'm planning to like sponge off you. And, uh,
- 25:15Speaker 1: Zorro seems to have no problem with that, which is
- 25:18Speaker 1: a little, I don't know if it's exactly out of character.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I don't think that's fair, but, He was much more
- 25:27Speaker 1: like chill about it than I really thought he'd be.
- 25:33Speaker 1: And then we have Tonoyasu inviting him back to his village,
- 25:42Speaker 1: walking with him. And the village is so, everybody is
- 25:47Speaker 1: laughing as they walk up. And Zorro was like, why?
- 25:53Speaker 1: What's the deal with all these people cracking up like this?
- 25:57Speaker 1: And Tonya is like, oh, God, you are so smart.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I can't believe you already clocked it. And I'm just like, look,
- 26:03Speaker 1: I know you're a sycophant and this is sort of
- 26:05Speaker 1: your thing. But who wouldn't clock this? Who wouldn't clock this?
- 26:12Speaker 1: This is the weirdest shit. So evidently, this is down
- 26:19Speaker 1: to their philosophy. on life, which is everything in life
- 26:27Speaker 1: is hard and awful. And you may as well have
- 26:32Speaker 1: a sense of humor about it because there's really not
- 26:35Speaker 1: a lot that you can change. And honestly, same. I like,
- 26:41Speaker 1: I believe that we do have control over some things,
- 26:44Speaker 1: but it's a lot less than we'd like to think.
- 26:47Speaker 1: And it's something that we don't like to face. how
- 26:51Speaker 1: much is really out of our control. However, there is
- 26:59Speaker 1: a difference between making the best of a situation and
- 27:05Speaker 1: trying to roll with the punches and see the funny
- 27:07Speaker 1: side of things. And what these people are doing, which
- 27:12Speaker 1: is simply standing around laughing hysterically at everything that happens
- 27:18Speaker 1: is which is bizarre behavior. And like, it's, it's just,
- 27:28Speaker 1: there's a, almost a feeling of, are we under a spell? Like,
- 27:32Speaker 1: what is this? You know? So they come into town
- 27:37Speaker 1: and everybody is joking around with Zorro, which like, I'm
- 27:42Speaker 1: going to go on record here. I actually really do
- 27:46Speaker 1: like this simply because, by virtue of the fact that
- 27:51Speaker 1: he is such a stick in the mud so often
- 27:55Speaker 1: that being around a bunch of folks who are literally
- 28:00Speaker 1: going to like push the sides of his face up
- 28:02Speaker 1: to make him smile is really something to watch him
- 28:08Speaker 1: deal with and tolerate. Like I, it was very funny
- 28:13Speaker 1: to me. I'm not going to lie. So yeah, Eventually,
- 28:19Speaker 1: there's this little girl who comes up to him and
- 28:21Speaker 1: she has a glass of clear water and is offering
- 28:25Speaker 1: it to him because they somehow got some money. Is
- 28:28Speaker 1: this from the money that he gave? Did they spend
- 28:31Speaker 1: it already? Is that what it's supposed to be? But
- 28:35Speaker 1: they purchased this pure water, which they offer to him
- 28:41Speaker 1: in a way that I actually kind of don't think
- 28:46Speaker 1: there's something... wrong with the water, but if circumstances were
- 28:50Speaker 1: just a little different, I'm pretty sure I'd be real
- 28:53Speaker 1: suspicious of this. I'm pretty sure I would just be like, don't,
- 28:58Speaker 1: don't drink that. Don't put that in your body. I
- 29:01Speaker 1: don't know what's going on here, but, and I, I
- 29:04Speaker 1: get the impression in the scene that Zorro's kind of
- 29:07Speaker 1: having the same thought as me as like, they're being
- 29:10Speaker 1: so pushy and insistent about the water that maybe there's
- 29:15Speaker 1: something wrong with it. but I also get the sense
- 29:17Speaker 1: that he is just a little bit like off kilter
- 29:21Speaker 1: because of the way these people are acting in general.
- 29:24Speaker 1: And so now he's sort of looking around going, maybe
- 29:27Speaker 1: it's fine. Maybe these people are just weirdos, but this
- 29:31Speaker 1: is the way they share, you know? And yeah, I
- 29:36Speaker 1: think I come to the conclusion by the end of
- 29:39Speaker 1: the scene, he hasn't, drank it, but like we cut away,
- 29:43Speaker 1: but I really turned a corner where for a second
- 29:49Speaker 1: at first, I'm like, oh, they're generously offering him some
- 29:53Speaker 1: of the water that they had to spend money for,
- 29:56Speaker 1: which is like just a nice thing to do. And
- 30:00Speaker 1: then as they get pushier and this girl starts this
- 30:04Speaker 1: chant about how it's yummy and won't hurt your tummy,
- 30:09Speaker 1: I start to get more and more suspicious. And then
- 30:13Speaker 1: somewhere in there, I finally turn a corner again and
- 30:17Speaker 1: I'm like, no, I think these people are just freaks
- 30:20Speaker 1: and they are being generous and they are just doing
- 30:22Speaker 1: a nice thing. But it comes across as fucking weird
- 30:26Speaker 1: because they are weird. And that's just going to flavor
- 30:29Speaker 1: everything that they do. So I really did kind of like, look,
- 30:42Speaker 1: the fact there comes a point, this is the thing
- 30:45Speaker 1: that I was talking about at the beginning. Tonoyasu says
- 30:49Speaker 1: something to the other villagers, like, I'm very proud of
- 30:55Speaker 1: my catch or something like that. And that was the
- 31:00Speaker 1: main thing that had me– it may simply be a
- 31:04Speaker 1: translation thing. But in the moment, I was like, that
- 31:09Speaker 1: sounds like this is something nefarious, that he targeted him
- 31:15Speaker 1: for something in a specific way. But then I kind
- 31:18Speaker 1: of stopped and I was like, well, he did literally
- 31:22Speaker 1: say to Zorro– I am hanging around you because you
- 31:26Speaker 1: have good luck. And I think that could rub off
- 31:28Speaker 1: on me and like, you know, the people around you.
- 31:32Speaker 1: So then I backpedaled a bit and was like, I
- 31:37Speaker 1: don't know, maybe it's fine. Maybe this isn't as like
- 31:42Speaker 1: sus as it's looking like. I went back and forth
- 31:46Speaker 1: so many times on so many things. And I, even now,
- 31:52Speaker 1: I'm not really sure what I think. I'm not really
- 31:54Speaker 1: sure like what robbing him would be the thing, but me,
- 32:05Speaker 1: I was going to say if they were going to
- 32:07Speaker 1: rob him, they would have done, but they could be
- 32:09Speaker 1: like putting something in the water to knock him out
- 32:11Speaker 1: and then take from him. But then do what? Drop
- 32:15Speaker 1: them down a hole somewhere. Probably like, I don't know.
- 32:18Speaker 1: These people don't seem like they're all a bunch of
- 32:20Speaker 1: hardened criminals to me. So yeah, I don't know. They're
- 32:27Speaker 1: just strange and off-putting. And perhaps that's just it. Perhaps
- 32:32Speaker 1: that is the summary of why I felt so weird
- 32:37Speaker 1: about the whole thing is simply I find you guys off-putting.
- 32:41Speaker 1: It's a shame to feel that way about people whose
- 32:45Speaker 1: overall philosophy I actually endorse. But you're taking it to
- 32:50Speaker 1: an extreme that feels like you're all on drugs. or
- 32:55Speaker 1: like your mind has simply cracked due to the pressure
- 32:59Speaker 1: and you can't handle anymore. Like there's a kid whose
- 33:02Speaker 1: stomach hurts because he hasn't eaten in so long. And
- 33:05Speaker 1: when his stomach growls, they all start laughing and joking
- 33:08Speaker 1: around about it. And then there's another like guy, an
- 33:13Speaker 1: old man and his tooth falls out. And he's like,
- 33:17Speaker 1: this is so funny. Look, my tooth fell out due
- 33:21Speaker 1: to malnutrition, which is, a crazy line. And this other
- 33:28Speaker 1: woman like chimes in and they make a joke about
- 33:31Speaker 1: it and just start cracking up. And I was just like,
- 33:35Speaker 1: I really don't care for it. I just, yeah, I
- 33:41Speaker 1: don't know. I think maybe though, when I, when I
- 33:44Speaker 1: really stop and consider whenever I have had something going
- 33:51Speaker 1: on with like, because I, For those who are outside
- 33:54Speaker 1: the United States, you need to understand that we have
- 33:58Speaker 1: really weird health care things. And we decide that like
- 34:03Speaker 1: your teeth and your eyeballs don't count as part of
- 34:06Speaker 1: your body. So those have a completely different type of
- 34:09Speaker 1: health care and aren't covered by most plans that come
- 34:15Speaker 1: with your job or that are provided with like subsidies
- 34:19Speaker 1: by the government. And thus, even if you are insured,
- 34:25Speaker 1: if you have an issue with your teeth, you have
- 34:27Speaker 1: to like take out a loan to pay for them,
- 34:28Speaker 1: which I had to do. I finally paid it off
- 34:30Speaker 1: like earlier this year, but I had to pay $ 2, 500
- 34:33Speaker 1: for a root canal and I didn't have $ 2, 500. And
- 34:39Speaker 1: so I had to take a loan out with like
- 34:41Speaker 1: fucking 20% interest, something insane to get a root canal.
- 34:48Speaker 1: And I am pretty sure. I made some really dark
- 34:54Speaker 1: jokes about it when I had to do it because
- 34:57Speaker 1: it's fucked up. I mean, the way our healthcare system
- 35:01Speaker 1: works is stupid and illogical and cruel and unusual. So
- 35:08Speaker 1: I think maybe that's what I have to keep in
- 35:10Speaker 1: mind is that even though these people are all laughing
- 35:12Speaker 1: continually in a way that feels like a fever dream,
- 35:17Speaker 1: I think I just need to like keep in my
- 35:21Speaker 1: head the fact that this is just a hugely exaggerated
- 35:28Speaker 1: example of like what trying to make jokes in the
- 35:33Speaker 1: face of hardship really looks like. And sure. No, it's
- 35:37Speaker 1: not continual laughter all the time about everything, but even
- 35:42Speaker 1: so it's the same sort of behavior. I just hope
- 35:48Speaker 1: that like, if we stay hanging around here, that we're
- 35:51Speaker 1: not going to have to hear people in the background
- 35:54Speaker 1: constantly cracking up because I think that's part of it
- 35:58Speaker 1: as well is like the voice actors having to do
- 36:02Speaker 1: this continuous laughter feels, it feels unhinged in a way
- 36:07Speaker 1: that's more about them being sick of doing it and
- 36:11Speaker 1: it bleeding through a little bit, you know? Anyway, so I, uh,
- 36:19Speaker 1: want to make sure that I haven't skipped anything within
- 36:21Speaker 1: this storyline because we're pretty much like just with him
- 36:26Speaker 1: almost the entire episode until we eventually cut over to
- 36:33Speaker 1: this other guy Orochi and I think this is the
- 36:37Speaker 1: first time that we are seeing him is that right
- 36:40Speaker 1: I don't remember him and his look so if we
- 36:45Speaker 1: have met him I didn't remember And, you know, his
- 36:50Speaker 1: look is not so unique. So it wouldn't be like
- 36:55Speaker 1: too unbelievable if I kind of forgot about him. But
- 36:59Speaker 1: it is a little bit different than I was expecting.
- 37:01Speaker 1: I kind of thought he was going to be more
- 37:05Speaker 1: of a slick. What's the word I want? Somebody who
- 37:15Speaker 1: felt more like God. silent and intimidating. And instead he's
- 37:24Speaker 1: almost giving the vibe of like a WAPL where he's
- 37:28Speaker 1: really loud and aggressive in the way that he talks
- 37:31Speaker 1: and has like the bulging eyes and a not like,
- 37:39Speaker 1: it's like he has the knowledge that what he is
- 37:41Speaker 1: doing is fucked up and that's part of what is
- 37:47Speaker 1: fun for him is that nobody can stop him from
- 37:50Speaker 1: doing whatever he wants. Whereas I was sort of expecting
- 37:54Speaker 1: somebody who was like, what I'm doing is fucked up,
- 37:58Speaker 1: but it doesn't bother me because I don't have a
- 38:01Speaker 1: conscience and I don't really care about other people. And
- 38:04Speaker 1: so I don't think about that aspect of it because
- 38:08Speaker 1: it matters so little, but it, he's much more seeming
- 38:12Speaker 1: like somebody who enjoys the petty and power that he
- 38:16Speaker 1: has and like pushing people around much more like a bully. Um,
- 38:22Speaker 1: I don't prefer one to the other, you know, just
- 38:25Speaker 1: to be clear. It's just that I, I realized once
- 38:28Speaker 1: we met him that I didn't clock who he was
- 38:30Speaker 1: right away because I had a mental image that was
- 38:33Speaker 1: just so specific. Um, and he is talking to a
- 38:39Speaker 1: group of, uh, What do you call them? What is
- 38:45Speaker 1: the name of this? They're not CP9, right? What are
- 38:50Speaker 1: they now? CP0. Thank you, Florian. And he is talking
- 38:57Speaker 1: to them about how he is in charge and I
- 39:02Speaker 1: know it must be hard with Doflamingo being gone, but
- 39:08Speaker 1: you don't have a middleman. We have the upper hand
- 39:12Speaker 1: and now you have to deal with us directly in
- 39:16Speaker 1: a way that, you know, is going to be much
- 39:19Speaker 1: more advantageous to us. And one of them says, you
- 39:24Speaker 1: shouldn't be making such unreasonable demands. And this guy is like,
- 39:30Speaker 1: Wano is entirely self-sufficient as an island and my people
- 39:35Speaker 1: are happy so we don't really you know need almost
- 39:42Speaker 1: anything from you guys the only thing that I want
- 39:47Speaker 1: is more power And I had asked for a warship,
- 39:52Speaker 1: but I've changed my mind. And what I actually want
- 39:56Speaker 1: is Dr. Vegapunk. And all of them are just like shocked. Well,
- 40:02Speaker 1: I say that they're shocked, but they also don't, they
- 40:06Speaker 1: have masks on. So you, but you know, you still
- 40:08Speaker 1: get that. And when one of them says we can't,
- 40:11Speaker 1: he literally shoots the dude's like top of his head off.
- 40:14Speaker 1: It does not kill the guy. He just, looks down
- 40:19Speaker 1: and boom, his face is back in place. But he
- 40:22Speaker 1: says after that, that wasn't me asking. That was me telling.
- 40:29Speaker 1: And then he starts to say celestial dragons, the Navy,
- 40:32Speaker 1: you must have caught on by now the land of
- 40:34Speaker 1: Wano fears, none of these things. And as he says this,
- 40:39Speaker 1: his face begins to elongate. And I was like, oh,
- 40:43Speaker 1: we have another dragon like Kaido. Well, not really. Apparently,
- 40:50Speaker 1: we've got a fucking Hydra. Because, like, as he is
- 40:57Speaker 1: doing this, there's like a bunch of other heads that
- 40:59Speaker 1: sort of swoop in from the outside edges. Like, he
- 41:03Speaker 1: has six heads. And I don't know if that's just
- 41:07Speaker 1: an effect of the exaggeration of the animations. But because
- 41:14Speaker 1: we don't get a good look, we just get this
- 41:16Speaker 1: sort of silhouette effect. But I think it's literal and
- 41:19Speaker 1: that he has more than one head, which I wonder
- 41:27Speaker 1: if we do get a good look, how this will
- 41:32Speaker 1: actually look. Because we have had a lot of varying
- 41:36Speaker 1: results with these weird, you know, what's the word I want? Synthetic.
- 41:43Speaker 1: devil fruits. And they have all had the animal aspect,
- 41:49Speaker 1: but they have some of them have manifested in a
- 41:51Speaker 1: way that is really upsetting. And then there are some
- 41:55Speaker 1: like Kaido's that's just badass as fuck and really intimidating.
- 41:59Speaker 1: And I'm wondering if this guy is actually badass as
- 42:04Speaker 1: fuck and intimidating the way he looks in silhouette, or
- 42:07Speaker 1: if once I get a full on view of him,
- 42:09Speaker 1: I'm going to be like, Oh, this is really like
- 42:12Speaker 1: just as upsetting as all as like the hippo man
- 42:15Speaker 1: or something, you know? Um, so then we have, uh,
- 42:21Speaker 1: a little bit of a check-in with everybody else and
- 42:24Speaker 1: their positioning before we go into the next episode, a
- 42:28Speaker 1: state of emergency. And we see Robin who is about
- 42:32Speaker 1: to head into the, um, to entertain this like high
- 42:37Speaker 1: level guy. And we have Nami and the ninja lady,
- 42:42Speaker 1: whose name I just can't remember for some reason, uh,
- 42:47Speaker 1: like perched on a roof watching. And we see Sanji
- 42:50Speaker 1: outside observing everything as the gates open. Um, and Komura
- 42:56Speaker 1: Saki is announced and she comes in that we get
- 43:00Speaker 1: to see her, uh, shoes and she is wearing like,
- 43:04Speaker 1: those platform, like thong sandals with socks. I didn't clock
- 43:11Speaker 1: how tall they were until this moment. I think that
- 43:15Speaker 1: they're like a foot high. They are really, really tall,
- 43:20Speaker 1: which I guess makes sense to have, like, you know,
- 43:24Speaker 1: they're hidden under her dress or her kimono. So it's
- 43:28Speaker 1: a really, to make her seem probably like, more than
- 43:33Speaker 1: human in a way and tower above everybody, which is
- 43:37Speaker 1: a fascinating thing. I'm always interested in the use of
- 43:41Speaker 1: like clothing or accessories to make a person like, make
- 43:50Speaker 1: them look less human on a certain level. I remember
- 43:58Speaker 1: when I first learned about I don't remember what tribe
- 44:01Speaker 1: it is, but there was a group of people in
- 44:04Speaker 1: Africa who would put these metal collars as somebody was
- 44:09Speaker 1: growing to extend their neck. And it would like literally
- 44:13Speaker 1: stretch their neck to these unnatural lengths and the collar
- 44:17Speaker 1: would sort of support their head. It was a very
- 44:20Speaker 1: odd look. And I, and you know, foot binding as
- 44:23Speaker 1: well as a thing like these, these choices and how
- 44:27Speaker 1: they come to be are, really weirdly fascinating to me.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Seraphim says, Oda didn't even try to hide it. The
- 44:39Speaker 1: Yamato no Orochi is a major figure in Japanese myth
- 44:43Speaker 1: that in look is basically the Hydra. Oh, okay. So
- 44:49Speaker 1: his name is like, okay, I got it. Well, that's,
- 44:54Speaker 1: kind of promising then for my question about whether he's
- 44:58Speaker 1: going to actually look intimidating because I'm guessing if we're
- 45:02Speaker 1: basing it on a myth that it's probably going to
- 45:05Speaker 1: be cool rather than upsetting, but who knows? And then
- 45:11Speaker 1: we have a check-in with Momonosuke and he is in
- 45:16Speaker 1: that area where Otama had been living and is doing
- 45:23Speaker 1: some fighting exercises. I love when he's like, you should
- 45:27Speaker 1: address me properly to Otama. And she's like, yeah. And
- 45:31Speaker 1: you're Momo because he wants his title, you know? And
- 45:34Speaker 1: she's just like puzzled at what he even means. But
- 45:38Speaker 1: he mentions his sister and that he believes that she
- 45:44Speaker 1: is still alive, but he doesn't want to actually meet
- 45:48Speaker 1: her until he has fixed things. the kingdom. Because he's like,
- 45:55Speaker 1: if I actually do figure out who she is and
- 45:59Speaker 1: anybody is watching me, then it will bring attention to her.
- 46:03Speaker 1: And if she survived all this time, I don't want
- 46:05Speaker 1: to be the reason that Orici is like zeroing in.
- 46:08Speaker 1: So I actually appreciated that logic. It made a lot
- 46:13Speaker 1: of sense. I also do understand the, the urge to,
- 46:20Speaker 1: ensure that everything is in place so that you can
- 46:24Speaker 1: sort of stunt on your sister a little bit, you know? So,
- 46:29Speaker 1: all right, I'm going to like jump into the next
- 46:32Speaker 1: episode here and make sure that I'm not missing things. Okay. Yeah.
- 46:36Speaker 1: So we have the series of different doors that are
- 46:43Speaker 1: opened as we are going to see the Shogun. He is,
- 46:50Speaker 1: he's in front of a bunch of kneeling, bowing men.
- 46:55Speaker 1: And he says like, Hey, don't be so reserved. Raise
- 46:58Speaker 1: your heads for me. In a way that was unexpectedly like,
- 47:04Speaker 1: we know he loves power. So I was just thinking
- 47:07Speaker 1: it was going to be the power play of making
- 47:09Speaker 1: them be uncomfortable. Instead, what we are getting is the
- 47:13Speaker 1: power play of what he wants for dinner. And, I'll
- 47:21Speaker 1: tell you what, kids. The first thing they start with
- 47:27Speaker 1: are whole, boiled chickens. Let's bring our A game here.
- 47:36Speaker 1: You know how difficult this guy is going to be. Nobody,
- 47:42Speaker 1: and I mean nobody, is getting excited over a whole,
- 47:47Speaker 1: boiled chicken. Like, it's got the skin on still. They're
- 47:51Speaker 1: very pale. They haven't been roasted. The skin hasn't been
- 47:54Speaker 1: crisped up. It just sounds revolting. I was just like,
- 47:58Speaker 1: I agree with him. The one thing that's very funny, though,
- 48:01Speaker 1: is when he's like, I don't want chicken. This guy
- 48:04Speaker 1: is like, fine, then we'll discard them, which that's obviously
- 48:08Speaker 1: how we're meant to take. This is like anything he
- 48:10Speaker 1: doesn't eat gets literally tossed in a dumpster. But what?
- 48:17Speaker 1: normally you could just be like, alright, well the staff
- 48:19Speaker 1: will eat this or we'll give it away or something,
- 48:22Speaker 1: but we're not doing that. We're just purely throwing stuff
- 48:26Speaker 1: in the trash, which I never actually finished watching Unbreakable
- 48:33Speaker 1: Kimmy Schmidt, but in I think the very first episode
- 48:37Speaker 1: there comes a point where she meets this wealthy woman
- 48:40Speaker 1: who has a whole mini fridge stocked with bottled waters
- 48:44Speaker 1: and she reaches in and pulls out a bottled water
- 48:48Speaker 1: and offers it. And lady's like, Oh no, I'm fine.
- 48:51Speaker 1: And she's like, Oh, okay. And she turns around and
- 48:53Speaker 1: throws the entire bottle in the garbage instead of putting
- 48:56Speaker 1: it back in the refrigerator. And this was like very
- 48:59Speaker 1: much making me think of that. And the next thing
- 49:05Speaker 1: that they bring up are all of these vegetables. We
- 49:09Speaker 1: gathered the most fresh and ripe vegetables. Again, This is
- 49:15Speaker 1: a man who wants to feel like he's getting something indulgent.
- 49:19Speaker 1: You're going to start with boiled chicken and vegetables. Is
- 49:22Speaker 1: he on Weight Watchers? What are you doing? What is this?
- 49:25Speaker 1: I mean, you know, like, come on. So Florian says,
- 49:33Speaker 1: I think he always says no to the first thing.
- 49:35Speaker 1: So they don't even try anymore with the first dish.
- 49:38Speaker 1: I love that idea. You know what? That's going to
- 49:41Speaker 1: be my headcanon is that somebody out there really does
- 49:45Speaker 1: like boiled chicken. And they're just like, oh, that'll be
- 49:49Speaker 1: the first dish because he always refuses it. And I
- 49:51Speaker 1: have been craving this all week. So once he doesn't
- 49:53Speaker 1: want it, I'll just eat it. I don't see what
- 49:57Speaker 1: kind of psychopath is excited about boiled chicken, but you know,
- 50:00Speaker 1: that's none of my business. So, and then the third
- 50:04Speaker 1: thing that he is offered is, Some fatty sari might
- 50:10Speaker 1: appease your distinguished palate. I have never heard of this
- 50:16Speaker 1: fish before. S-A-U-R-Y. Known as a mackerel pike or sanma
- 50:25Speaker 1: in Japan, it is a slender migratory schooling fish famous
- 50:29Speaker 1: for its oily, rich flavor. and a body shape that
- 50:33Speaker 1: resembles a small silver sword, which it really does. When
- 50:36Speaker 1: you're looking at these in the picture, they have almost
- 50:39Speaker 1: straight sides for a long, there's something vaguely eel-like about them,
- 50:45Speaker 1: which does make some sense because eel are also quite fatty,
- 50:48Speaker 1: and that's part of what was so popular about them.
- 50:52Speaker 1: But I love fatty fish. It's part of why I
- 50:56Speaker 1: love salmon so much. So this would probably be up
- 51:00Speaker 1: my alley. I think I might be down for this.
- 51:03Speaker 1: And Oricchi's mouth starts watering. They have finally found something
- 51:09Speaker 1: that is appealing to him, at least as an appetizer.
- 51:15Speaker 1: There's only two on the plate with like a pile
- 51:18Speaker 1: of rice. Pair it with tuna sashimi. We also brought
- 51:24Speaker 1: you A hand-selected variety of sakes from across the land
- 51:28Speaker 1: of Wano. And when they say that, I'm thinking like, oh, nice. No,
- 51:34Speaker 1: Orochi says enough already and knocks all of the sake
- 51:39Speaker 1: to the ground. I could just imagine because like we've
- 51:42Speaker 1: got the wastefulness of the food, which is offending Sanji.
- 51:46Speaker 1: But then wasting all of that sake, like Zoro would
- 51:49Speaker 1: be pissed. I'm more concerned about the assortment of women
- 51:53Speaker 1: you brought me. What about my entertainment? And they say
- 51:58Speaker 1: that was our top priority of ours, sir. And this
- 52:05Speaker 1: is when we have Robin pulled into the mix. And
- 52:09Speaker 1: this dude is very like, what's the word I want?
- 52:14Speaker 1: I was expecting him to be a lot more, um,
- 52:20Speaker 1: I guess like, I don't want to say unpleasant because
- 52:26Speaker 1: even though it, it would be, I guess I thought
- 52:30Speaker 1: he was going to get like maybe a little bit
- 52:34Speaker 1: like physically aggressive and violent with them. And instead he
- 52:38Speaker 1: seems to be very much like a victim to their
- 52:44Speaker 1: charms in a way that I really didn't see coming.
- 52:49Speaker 1: He's so, he is somebody that manipulating has to be
- 52:57Speaker 1: quite easy. He's got a like little kid, adolescent kind
- 53:04Speaker 1: of quality to him. And when I think about somebody
- 53:08Speaker 1: who is in charge, who is young and spoiled nowadays,
- 53:13Speaker 1: my first thought is like Joffrey Lannister, who was also
- 53:20Speaker 1: a sadist psycho. And so I think that's part of
- 53:23Speaker 1: what happens is like a person with this attitude, I
- 53:25Speaker 1: begin to assign to them that they are a sadist
- 53:29Speaker 1: in all ways because of the way that you're wasting
- 53:33Speaker 1: food and how you're yelling at servants who are just
- 53:36Speaker 1: trying to please you. It seems really cruel, but I
- 53:40Speaker 1: realized like for him, the cruelty doesn't seem to really
- 53:43Speaker 1: be the point here. It's just a side effect of
- 53:45Speaker 1: him wanting what he wants and, being very impatient about it,
- 53:51Speaker 1: like a child. So anyway, it was just, I had
- 53:56Speaker 1: been like a little bit dreading the women being in
- 53:59Speaker 1: his presence and what that was going to be like.
- 54:02Speaker 1: And instead he's more like harmless seeming. And I don't
- 54:11Speaker 1: think he actually is harmless to be clear because he
- 54:15Speaker 1: has so much power. He could do great harm, but,
- 54:19Speaker 1: The energy that he has in the scene makes it
- 54:22Speaker 1: feel like the women have the power and not him
- 54:25Speaker 1: in that moment, you know? So anyway, he's looking at
- 54:30Speaker 1: Robin and is like, wow, you must be new. You
- 54:34Speaker 1: are quite a beauty. And he's very, very happy with her.
- 54:38Speaker 1: But he does stop and go, I think we're missing
- 54:42Speaker 1: an important guest, though. And then we see Komurasaki getting
- 54:47Speaker 1: let inside. And all of the staff, as she's passing
- 54:53Speaker 1: them in the hallways, are just staring at her with
- 54:57Speaker 1: heart eyes. And she comes in and does the, I'm
- 55:02Speaker 1: so pleased to see you, my lord. And he is drooling,
- 55:06Speaker 1: like literally. Heart eyes and drooling. So we cut from
- 55:12Speaker 1: there to outside where Sanji is cooking. And And we've
- 55:18Speaker 1: got Trafalgar coming up behind him. And Sanji is like, dude,
- 55:22Speaker 1: what are you doing? If you stop and talk to me,
- 55:24Speaker 1: it's going to be suspicious. And Traffy's like, we got
- 55:30Speaker 1: to go. And he says something about the people who
- 55:33Speaker 1: attacked earlier and how it's not a big deal. I'll
- 55:35Speaker 1: just deal with them again if they want to come back.
- 55:37Speaker 1: And Trafalgar says, no, no, no. There are going to
- 55:41Speaker 1: be some people heading toward us that actually know our
- 55:44Speaker 1: faces and know who we are. It's a different type
- 55:46Speaker 1: of threat. And it's Hawkins coming with more backup. The
- 55:53Speaker 1: Toby Ropo are the headliners. They sent two. Don't mess
- 55:57Speaker 1: with them. I think he says there's six. The first
- 56:01Speaker 1: is page one, which is such a bonkers name. And
- 56:08Speaker 1: we cut over at this point to dude writing the
- 56:12Speaker 1: fucking it's a it's a What do you call it?
- 56:19Speaker 1: I can't remember what you call this, this side haircut.
- 56:23Speaker 1: It's the, oh my God, you guys, what is it?
- 56:28Speaker 1: What do you call this? But he can turn into
- 56:31Speaker 1: a dinosaur that has like a side shaved, you know,
- 56:39Speaker 1: the pouring purple hair coming down the other side. And
- 56:43Speaker 1: we see him just attacking a village, it seems like,
- 56:46Speaker 1: for simply the fun. There's nothing really that he appears
- 56:51Speaker 1: to be after, but he is enjoying toppling buildings and
- 56:56Speaker 1: chasing people. And honestly, he's also wearing these weird purple...
- 57:05Speaker 1: They look like pants, but they're not quite, because they
- 57:08Speaker 1: fit him when he's even... a huge dinosaur. I don't
- 57:12Speaker 1: know how exactly this works. And then Sanji says, who's
- 57:18Speaker 1: the other? And he says, X, that's Drake. No more questions.
- 57:22Speaker 1: We better start moving. And Sanji says, no kidding. One
- 57:28Speaker 1: of the worst generation, huh? And we cut over to Drake,
- 57:34Speaker 1: who is actually a Drake, a lizard guy. Like, It
- 57:40Speaker 1: comes up over the top of his head, and so
- 57:42Speaker 1: a big chunk of him is human-looking. But he's more
- 57:49Speaker 1: animal-like as a default, it seems like, than a lot
- 57:55Speaker 1: of them get to be. I am so puzzled by
- 57:58Speaker 1: Page One and why his name is Page One. I
- 58:01Speaker 1: don't know what to think. But he also has this
- 58:04Speaker 1: fin coming up out of his back that is reminiscent
- 58:09Speaker 1: of of like a triceratops, but it's, it's too low.
- 58:15Speaker 1: I don't know if it's bone or if it has
- 58:17Speaker 1: some sort of function, but I don't believe that we
- 58:20Speaker 1: see it. If there is a function to it. Seraphim
- 58:26Speaker 1: says per the theme, it's a card. Oh, page one
- 58:30Speaker 1: is a card game. Oh, I never heard of it.
- 58:34Speaker 1: And he's a Spinosaurus. Is that a real thing? Oh
- 58:38Speaker 1: my God. I'm over time. I'm really, I need, you know,
- 58:43Speaker 1: I'm sorry, but I'm going to just look it up
- 58:45Speaker 1: really quick. Okay. Wow. Okay. Semi aquatic predatory dinosaur during
- 58:55Speaker 1: the late Cretaceous period and described as massive reached up
- 59:01Speaker 1: to 46 to 59 feet, making it one of the
- 59:06Speaker 1: largest known meat-eating dinosaurs. Wow. Wild. Dinosaurs are crazy. Drake
- 59:15Speaker 1: is an Allosaurus, but he's in his hybrid form. Okay.
- 59:20Speaker 1: We've seen Drake on Sabaody a long time ago. Wow. Okay. Yeah,
- 59:24Speaker 1: I do not remember that. But we met so many
- 59:28Speaker 1: people on Sabaody. That was a real crowded time. So
- 59:32Speaker 1: I'm not surprised. I forgot. So they're just talking about how,
- 59:39Speaker 1: you know, we're setting an example of what happens to
- 59:42Speaker 1: someone stupid enough to set foot in the land of
- 59:44Speaker 1: Wano and ballsy enough to cross the beast pirates. And
- 59:49Speaker 1: Hawkins is there. They're like, well, then why are you
- 59:51Speaker 1: even here? And he says, I'm in search of a
- 59:54Speaker 1: particular man. You'll find this mission to be more than
- 59:57Speaker 1: you bargained for, believe me. Which I do appreciate Hawkins
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: just basically being like, I know that you guys think
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: this is going to be a simple task, but trust me,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: don't underestimate these people. Really, really quickly, because I'm over time,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: I've just got to touch on the fact that we've
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: got Luffy and Wet Hair Caribou. like what her care
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: would is still trying to team up with Luffy who
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: has zero interest. And he's talking some shit about kid
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: and how like, you know, his name is mud because
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: he went up against big mom and she just tore
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: his arm off. I think he says something about actually
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: that it was an underling. It wasn't even her that
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: tore his arm off, but that he got defeated by
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: her and like fled in disgrace. And it turns out
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: kid is there listening. And it's just like the fuck
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you say. I don't, Lost my arm before I ever
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: went there. Seraphim says, Shanks, not Big Mom. Oh, really?
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I thought he said... Shanks took the arm. No, but
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: that's what I'm saying. He's... Big... Like, the story is
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: that Big Mom... or one of her people took the arm.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: And Seraphim says, but Caribou is just wrong. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Because, yeah,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: when King comes out, he's just like, I don't know
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: where you're getting your info from, but you are wrong
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: on pretty much all counts of what happened here. And
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: that he had lost his arm before he ever even
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: went to Big Mom's, and that he was there to
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: steal something, which he successfully stolen and left with, which
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I don't remember if we know what that is or not, but, uh,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: suffice to say this whole thing, you know, is still the,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: the rivalry between him and Luffy and what hair caribou
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: trying to just sign on with whoever will help him
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: get the fuck out of here. But neither of them
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: want his ass. And that is more than fair because
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: he sucks so bad. Um, we also quickly just, what
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: do you call it? Check in with Brooke, who is
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: using the ability to like separate his soul from his
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: skeleton to investigate. And he actually finds the next Poneglyph,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: which again, I don't care about these that much at
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: this point, but that is significant progress. So that's cool.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: And we, We also get the arrival of Big Mom,
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: who they are trying to, like, because she and Kaido
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: are not friends, which I think that I forget sometimes.
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: Both of them wanting to take down Luffy does not
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: mean that they are allies with each other in that mission.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: So Kaido is telling his people to fire on her.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: which of course has no effect because her people are badasses.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: But I had just forgotten the fact that they were
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: going to be at odds in this way. And yeah,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: it pretty much like ends with her being like, I'm
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: going to fucking get Luffy this time, which considering that
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: he's currently like in prison right now, feels more likely
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: than it would otherwise. But I have no doubt, of course,
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: that she will not be getting Luffy this time. However,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: throwing another person of her level into the mix here
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: at Wano is going to be very disruptive. So I
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: am sort of interested to see how that works out.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: All right. I got to wrap up. Thank you guys
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: again for hanging out. Thank you again, Michael, for commissioning
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: this episode. And I'm really looking forward to seeing where
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: we go from here. Until next time, toodaloo, motherfuckers. That
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: was an unspoiled network podcast.
