Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: Hi, guys, Welcome to another episode of Diamonds and Rough
- 0:10Speaker 1: with Teddy and.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Eric.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Are you like emphasis on the.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Rough, emphasis on the rough?
- 0:17Speaker 3: It's been rough, you know here in Los Angeles as
- 0:21Speaker 3: you know, I mean, you're I'm on one side of town,
- 0:24Speaker 3: you're on the other side of town.
- 0:25Speaker 2: But Teddy, what the is going on?
- 0:30Speaker 1: What the hell?
- 0:31Speaker 4: I have a question? At yesterday at like six pm?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Did you get an evacuation notice?
- 0:37Speaker 2: I did?
- 0:38Speaker 1: It made the mistake? Yes, whoever?
- 0:41Speaker 3: I mean, listen, I know that things happened, but the
- 0:45Speaker 3: entire county that was the evacuation noticed. I was like,
- 0:47Speaker 3: what is this entire Los Angeles County going?
- 0:50Speaker 1: I was like, uh, armageddon? What are like? Okay?
- 0:55Speaker 4: But then I started texting people and I'm like, did
- 0:57Speaker 4: you get this too, like people that lived far from me,
- 0:59Speaker 4: and they're like, oh, yeah, we all got it. And
- 1:01Speaker 4: then like ten minutes later, Katla did a press conference
- 1:05Speaker 4: and we're like, oh, it's not human driven.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I'm like, oh we have.
- 1:09Speaker 3: They did a press conference and said it's not human driven,
- 1:13Speaker 3: which makes it a little frightening.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Yeah, because it's human driven for me that I'm checking
- 1:18Speaker 4: my address every ten minutes, and also the amount of
- 1:22Speaker 4: people that we.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Know personally lost everything.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Lost everything.
- 1:28Speaker 4: And also something that I was talking about with Edwin
- 1:31Speaker 4: earlier is like, where are people going to live now?
- 1:35Speaker 3: I thought the exact same thing. And I also think
- 1:37Speaker 3: that this forever changes the Los Angeles landscape. I mean,
- 1:41Speaker 3: these people are going to have to do you know
- 1:43Speaker 3: how long it takes to pull a permit to rebuild,
- 1:46Speaker 3: to do anything in the city of Los Angeles. And
- 1:49Speaker 3: where are these people going? Where these people's children going
- 1:52Speaker 3: to school? Where it's utter devastation.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It's utter devastation.
- 1:59Speaker 4: And you realize that I don't know if it was
- 2:01Speaker 4: six months ago or when it was, but they canceled
- 2:05Speaker 4: everybody's fire insurance.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Of course they did. I know someone in my family
- 2:10Speaker 3: who is that happened to. Yes, they canceled everybody's fire insurance.
- 2:14Speaker 3: What is the state going to do?
- 2:16Speaker 2: Like? What is happening here?
- 2:18Speaker 3: This is I mean, in my opinion, I believe that
- 2:20Speaker 3: this leads to massive economic impact. Yeah, political change, you know,
- 2:26Speaker 3: all of this kind of stuff, insurance, you know, the
- 2:29Speaker 3: insurance companies, Like this is I think that we're going
- 2:33Speaker 3: to get a new mayor, We're going to get a
- 2:35Speaker 3: whole new lot of stuff.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I think there's going to be so much.
- 2:39Speaker 4: And I think it's also I mean, the unknown for
- 2:42Speaker 4: an adult like me is hard, but imagine the unknown
- 2:45Speaker 4: as a child, Like there are so many kids that
- 2:48Speaker 4: like live in that area that was burned down, and
- 2:50Speaker 4: then there's school burned down right behind them. Like imagine
- 2:53Speaker 4: like the long term effects of that.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Well and the PTSD of it all that's not going
- 2:59Speaker 3: to even I had a friend come over last night
- 3:01Speaker 3: to get some dog food. It's just randomly his home. Uh,
- 3:06Speaker 3: the inside of his home in Palisades is perfect, but
- 3:09Speaker 3: the outside is so bizarre, completely destroyed. All of his
- 3:13Speaker 3: neighbors completely destroyed somehow another his the interior of his
- 3:17Speaker 3: play state.
- 3:18Speaker 2: But he seems so you know, we know when people
- 3:21Speaker 2: are in shock. Yeah, it's going to be fine.
- 3:24Speaker 3: I'm like, wow, okay, it's these people have a long
- 3:28Speaker 3: way to go. And I just would like to point out,
- 3:31Speaker 3: not that I'm not being insensitive, but how are we
- 3:35Speaker 3: going to pull this back together?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Like how are these people going to go on?
- 3:38Speaker 3: And and what does this mean for the rest of
- 3:41Speaker 3: Los Angeles? Like this has massive impact and yeah.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I mean we have multiple like I have friends staying here.
- 3:49Speaker 4: I have multiple pets, like of other people because like
- 3:52Speaker 4: people are evacuating and there's nowhere to go, or people
- 3:54Speaker 4: won't let pets and all this different stuff. And it's it's,
- 3:58Speaker 4: you know, every day you wait for the schools to
- 3:59Speaker 4: get canceled. Not that I would probably even send my
- 4:02Speaker 4: kids to school at this point, but like it's all
- 4:05Speaker 4: of it's just really scary. And watching animals run down
- 4:09Speaker 4: the street, Yeah, that was.
- 4:11Speaker 3: That's always sad to watch. I mean, just everybody, every
- 4:14Speaker 3: living thing is displaced.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Did you see the horse that like ran back to get.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Its friends the other horses?
- 4:20Speaker 4: I know, I was like, Teddy, get off your phone
- 4:24Speaker 4: and stop looking at this at two in the morning
- 4:26Speaker 4: when you can't sleep.
- 4:27Speaker 3: No, And it was just I thought of you actually,
- 4:29Speaker 3: because you're you know, that's your specialty horses. And I thought,
- 4:32Speaker 3: oh my gosh, this horse went back for his friends.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Did you see the mountain lion with her cubs, Yes,
- 4:39Speaker 3: well it's here, that was, you know, Or the dog
- 4:43Speaker 3: that randomly ran up to the firefighter. I mean, it's
- 4:45Speaker 3: just you know, and to see I don't know, you know,
- 4:51Speaker 3: there are times in life when there are no answers.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I mean, yes, there are answers, but something like this
- 4:56Speaker 3: is just catastrophic.
- 4:58Speaker 4: And there's nothing you can to change it. And I
- 5:01Speaker 4: have to say, and not to bring this into a
- 5:03Speaker 4: housewife world, but the last time there was big fires
- 5:07Speaker 4: like this when we we were in Provence.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I was thinking the exact same thing the last time that,
- 5:14Speaker 3: like people lost their homes that we knew we were
- 5:17Speaker 3: in France, we were on our way.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Difference, and so we didn't.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I have to say, this feels completely different beyond like
- 5:25Speaker 4: we because we were in our own little like dub
- 5:28Speaker 4: world of like all right, now there's five of us
- 5:31Speaker 4: and we got to figure this shit out and we
- 5:33Speaker 4: got to keep it moving. And so I was like,
- 5:36Speaker 4: I don't know that I've lived, like there's been fires,
- 5:38Speaker 4: there's been small fires here, but like to this level.
- 5:42Speaker 4: And then now people getting arrested for arson.
- 5:45Speaker 2: Well that's just I mean, that's despicable.
- 5:48Speaker 3: But you have the Palisades, you had the Eton fire
- 5:51Speaker 3: which tore out at Altadena into Pasadena.
- 5:54Speaker 4: So onun, I have a question, how come I didn't
- 5:56Speaker 4: know Altadena was Pasadena?
- 5:58Speaker 1: And then how close is that?
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it's they're they're neighbors.
- 6:02Speaker 1: How close is that to your old house.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I think that one of the streets over from one
- 6:09Speaker 3: of the main streets was under evacuation orders.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I texted my friend Robin, who lived
- 6:15Speaker 4: kind of close to you, and she like sent me
- 6:19Speaker 4: a video from her backyard and she's like, we're watching
- 6:22Speaker 4: a movie right now, but like look back here and
- 6:24Speaker 4: you could just see fire everywhere.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Orange.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 3: When I lived there many years ago, there was a
- 6:30Speaker 3: fire that broke out. It was like the mountains behind
- 6:36Speaker 3: and it was so fast. So I can't even imagine
- 6:40Speaker 3: this fire being closer.
- 6:42Speaker 4: But I have a question the difference between Altadena or
- 6:44Speaker 4: Pasadena versus like the Palisades or Malibu or Santa Monica
- 6:49Speaker 4: or any of those things.
- 6:50Speaker 1: You can get out of Pasadena, right of course.
- 6:53Speaker 3: The thing with it on the beach is though, or
- 6:55Speaker 3: you know, the PCCh is one way and one way
- 6:57Speaker 3: out you can you can, Yes, there are ways out,
- 7:00Speaker 3: But when that fire is raging, you know, where do
- 7:04Speaker 3: these people go? Where do they resettle? Where do all
- 7:07Speaker 3: of these people that have lost their homes? Where did
- 7:09Speaker 3: they go? If I was thinking that a lot of
- 7:12Speaker 3: people would leave Los Angeles because it's easier to start
- 7:15Speaker 3: over somewhere else, and a lot of people don't want
- 7:17Speaker 3: to live anywhere else too. I mean, it's fifty fifty,
- 7:20Speaker 3: but people have to put their kids in school.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And you don't just get into any school here. It's
- 7:26Speaker 4: it's a trying and tedious process.
- 7:30Speaker 2: It's really too much. Yeah, I think it's best in college.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure.
- 7:37Speaker 4: But we encourage our listeners to help those affected by
- 7:39Speaker 4: the fire and support the firefighters battling these fires. KCRW
- 7:44Speaker 4: has a full list of resources at ww kcrw dot
- 7:49Speaker 4: com and it's on the front page. Also, go Fundme
- 7:52Speaker 4: has a page that has all the links for however
- 7:54Speaker 4: you'd like to help. It's GoFundMe dot com, slash see
- 7:58Speaker 4: slash app slash wild Fire hyphen Relief slash California. And
- 8:04Speaker 4: then also I have to give a major shout out
- 8:06Speaker 4: to Airbnb because they're offering free places.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I mean, I think that that's wonderful.
- 8:13Speaker 3: And I'm going to give a shout out to all
- 8:14Speaker 3: of our first responders Fireman LEAs La County Shriff LAPD
- 8:19Speaker 3: who are out there trying to help people the best
- 8:21Speaker 3: they can.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So thank you to every first responder out there. Yeah.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Well, and guess who I'm saying tonight because tonight is
- 8:28Speaker 4: the night that I you know, it's my non nesting night,
- 8:31Speaker 4: so I have to leave the house. Guess who's also
- 8:35Speaker 4: Who's going to be my roommate tonight over at Kyle's.
- 8:38Speaker 2: I can only guess who.
- 8:40Speaker 1: Chris Colin.
- 8:43Speaker 2: No, damn it.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I just texted him like, Hey, Rummy, I heard you're there.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I called that at it.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Did he loses home?
- 8:54Speaker 1: I don't know the details.
- 8:56Speaker 4: I just know that She's like, Jessa, heads up, you
- 8:58Speaker 4: know Chris and Bell are there.
- 9:00Speaker 1: Wow. So I didn't feel the need to grill him
- 9:03Speaker 1: on it. I just was like, giving you a heads up.
- 9:05Speaker 1: I get there at three.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But yeah, it's so fucking crazy.
- 9:12Speaker 2: I should give him a text.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Yeah, you should. You know about Alex I do, I do.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Heart breaking past member Bose lost her home in Elvis?
- 9:23Speaker 1: Is that hold on?
- 9:24Speaker 4: Because I and this isn't to talk show stuff, but
- 9:27Speaker 4: she did something on her Instagram where she said I'm
- 9:29Speaker 4: going to change something that I've been doing this last year.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Is that about the fire?
- 9:33Speaker 2: No? I don't know about that, but I do know
- 9:36Speaker 2: that she lost her home, and.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I think like some old house of ours has gone
- 9:42Speaker 3: as well one of yours.
- 9:45Speaker 5: Yeah, well, let's try to encourage people to have a
- 10:02Speaker 5: little light, to find a little light or a little distraction.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Erica, you were in New York, then you flew back
- 10:09Speaker 4: here in the midst of this chaos.
- 10:12Speaker 1: How are you feeling?
- 10:14Speaker 3: I am feeling overwhelmed, To be perfectly honest with you,
- 10:18Speaker 3: I was there doing press and did watch What Happens
- 10:21Speaker 3: Live and got fitted for Chicago and put my feet
- 10:24Speaker 3: back in my shoes and then flew home and Los
- 10:27Speaker 3: Angeles was on fire.
- 10:29Speaker 1: And I'm surprised you flew home.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Well, I have to get ready. I mean I have
- 10:33Speaker 2: to get ready to leave.
- 10:34Speaker 3: I leave in a couple of days, and I have
- 10:36Speaker 3: to get all my stuff, and I had to come
- 10:37Speaker 3: back here, and I have some business here I have
- 10:39Speaker 3: to sit down to do on Saturday before I leave
- 10:41Speaker 3: on Sunday.
- 10:41Speaker 2: So my days are stacked.
- 10:44Speaker 1: And when she said sit down, she means a confessional.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Oh yes, I'm sorry.
- 10:49Speaker 3: So I've got that. I've had some other things I
- 10:51Speaker 3: had to do. We're doing this, and I you know,
- 10:53Speaker 3: I hate doing these things via zoom.
- 10:55Speaker 2: I know me too, I hate it. I much prefer to.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Be in the room together but that's it, and life
- 11:01Speaker 3: goes on for me on Broadway.
- 11:05Speaker 4: So when you went back to New York, did you
- 11:07Speaker 4: start rehearsals or like what actually happened when you were there?
- 11:11Speaker 2: I was just there for a day.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I flew in on a Tuesday, worked all day Wednesday. Well,
- 11:18Speaker 3: on Tuesday, I actually we went down to the costumer
- 11:22Speaker 3: Lia and I did and we got our costumes and
- 11:24Speaker 3: like I said, put my shoes, put my shoes back on,
- 11:27Speaker 3: and then went to sleep. And Wednesday morning started at
- 11:31Speaker 3: like five and went all the way through What's what
- 11:33Speaker 3: Happens Live, and then got on a plane Thursday morning
- 11:37Speaker 3: to fly into here.
- 11:39Speaker 1: And now you're back and then when do you leave
- 11:40Speaker 1: again Sunday?
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're in it a minute. It's fair.
- 11:48Speaker 1: This is a listener question for both of us. I'm like,
- 11:53Speaker 1: Michael is just who knows.
- 11:55Speaker 4: But do we have any dreams or goals for twenty
- 11:58Speaker 4: twenty five?
- 11:59Speaker 3: Yes, I mean we're doing you know what's interesting? We
- 12:04Speaker 3: are ten days in since January tenth. Then you know,
- 12:09Speaker 3: I just I don't want to be this way, but
- 12:10Speaker 3: like I just see twenty twenty.
- 12:15Speaker 2: You know, like is this happening again? Like is the world.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Since we have gotten to the twenties, since twenty twenty,
- 12:22Speaker 4: we have yet to have a good year.
- 12:25Speaker 2: May you live in interest mines. I think, is it curse?
- 12:28Speaker 3: And you know we have We've not had it easy.
- 12:31Speaker 3: The world has not had it easy, and it's been
- 12:34Speaker 3: trying for all of us. I think that you know,
- 12:37Speaker 3: what would I like to do for twenty twenty five?
- 12:39Speaker 3: My my intention for twenty twenty five was to decrease
- 12:44Speaker 3: my sugar intake, you know, like not try to eat now.
- 12:47Speaker 2: I'm just trying to get through.
- 12:48Speaker 1: And I was like, how's that going? Because I had
- 12:51Speaker 1: a chocolate bagel right before you got on.
- 12:53Speaker 4: I was like in the mirror, like like a chocolate
- 12:56Speaker 4: chocolate chip bagel or the Topka bagel.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Okay, then sounds lovely.
- 13:01Speaker 4: I blame the kids because now this is the problem.
- 13:04Speaker 4: They've learned to postmates.
- 13:07Speaker 2: That's what that's my entire life.
- 13:09Speaker 1: And I'm like, hold on, who ordered bagels? And it's
- 13:11Speaker 1: like I did, Well.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Where is she? Where do you get the chocolate bagel.
- 13:15Speaker 4: From Western Bagel? It's so good I have to check
- 13:19Speaker 4: it out. Oh my gosh. But yeah, we're all really
- 13:22Speaker 4: excited to tell us again. The dates that you're doing Chicago, Well,
- 13:26Speaker 4: I've been.
- 13:27Speaker 3: In ten days January twentiethruy night.
- 13:32Speaker 1: This is so good.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Well, I asked the Koog's already, I'm like, I want
- 13:37Speaker 4: to go see Erica, and he's like, you can stay
- 13:39Speaker 4: in my apartment please.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm so I'm ready. Whatever day you want me there,
- 13:45Speaker 1: let me know and I'll come.
- 13:47Speaker 4: Tuesdays and Wednesdays are then for my non nesting nights,
- 13:50Speaker 4: so I'm pretty available.
- 13:51Speaker 3: You know what, we could pod on Wednesdays because that's
- 13:54Speaker 3: my one day off week.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Oh that's great, So I'll come in on a Tuesday.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Tuesday night or whatever not.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Of course, are you kidding?
- 14:03Speaker 4: Of course I'm coming in the show. The last time,
- 14:04Speaker 4: I was like nine months pregnant and like.
- 14:07Speaker 2: You and Dove were there, we were there.
- 14:10Speaker 1: I was uncomfortable. I was wearing some kind of sequined situation.
- 14:15Speaker 1: It was all a mistake, but you were amazing, and here.
- 14:18Speaker 2: You are back again one more time.
- 14:20Speaker 4: Oh my gosh. All right, you guys, thanks for tuning in.
- 14:24Speaker 4: We're gonna be back later next week. We're doing an
- 14:28Speaker 4: interview with doctor Nadine and it's gonna be pretty interesting.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Thank you, guys, be safe out there.
- 14:35Speaker 3: To everyone in Los Angeles, you know sorry, our heart
- 14:40Speaker 3: breaks for you.
