Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So the UK we go, Gavin Gregg, good morning to
- 0:01Speaker 1: you either, Andrew. So the European Union's twenty seven ambassadors
- 0:06Speaker 1: are all having a chinwere to discuss America's desire for Greenland.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot of anger, I think, reading between
- 0:14Speaker 2: the lines, there's also a great deal of apprehension. So Denmark, Finland, France, Germany,
- 0:19Speaker 2: the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom all putting
- 0:22Speaker 2: out a joint statement. They said that tariff threats undermine
- 0:26Speaker 2: transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral. So, of
- 0:31Speaker 2: course this is in response to Donald Trump, the US President,
- 0:34Speaker 2: announcing that those countries that support Greenland and disagree with
- 0:40Speaker 2: American attempts to either buy it or take it over
- 0:43Speaker 2: militarily or take it over diplomatically, that those countries would
- 0:47Speaker 2: face tariffs for ten percent from the first rising to
- 0:51Speaker 2: twenty five percent in June. And there have been thousands
- 0:55Speaker 2: of people protesting on the streets of Denmark, Greenland comes
- 0:58Speaker 2: under the Kingdom of Denmark, and thousands of people as
- 1:01Speaker 2: well in Greenland protesting against this, and France threatening something
- 1:05Speaker 2: called the anti Coercion instrument. It's never been used by
- 1:09Speaker 2: the EU but it basically would give them the power
- 1:12Speaker 2: to really enhance and retaliate their action within international law.
- 1:17Speaker 2: We really don't quite know what it means because it's
- 1:19Speaker 2: never been used. But Andrew, things are very very serious.
- 1:23Speaker 1: This is true, and good on Europe for no longer
- 1:25Speaker 1: captelling and appeating. They're they're actually trying to They're actually
- 1:29Speaker 1: finding the gats a little bit here. Meanwhile, to Tony Blair,
- 1:31Speaker 1: the former UK Prime Minister has got his fingers into
- 1:34Speaker 1: the Middle East game.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Yes, fingers in yet another pie. So this is the
- 1:40Speaker 2: so called the Board of Peace, which of course the
- 1:44Speaker 2: Trump administration is setting up, and it has asked the
- 1:46Speaker 2: former UK Prime Minister, so Tony Blair, to be a
- 1:49Speaker 2: founding executive member of that boarder piece, alongside the U
- 1:53Speaker 2: S Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Now it is said
- 1:57Speaker 2: that although Donald Trump will act as chair of the Board,
- 2:00Speaker 2: it's part of his twenty point peace plan to end
- 2:02Speaker 2: the war course between Israel and Gaza. Tony Blair course
- 2:05Speaker 2: famously Prime Minister here from nineteen ninety seven to two
- 2:08Speaker 2: thousand and seven, but famously took the UK into the
- 2:12Speaker 2: Iraq War in two thousand and three and has since
- 2:16Speaker 2: been serving as the Middle East end boy for the
- 2:18Speaker 2: quartet of international powers that is America, European Union, Russia
- 2:22Speaker 2: and the United Nations. Now plenty of people are saying, well,
- 2:25Speaker 2: hang on a minute, this is all well and good,
- 2:27Speaker 2: but where are the Palestine? Where are the Palestinians in
- 2:31Speaker 2: this particular board. And you know, Tony Blair not the
- 2:34Speaker 2: best record, one might argue, with his record of going
- 2:37Speaker 2: to war with Iraq. So yeah, plenty of people questioning
- 2:40Speaker 2: those posts currently being unveiled.
- 2:42Speaker 1: He is, No, He's not Muslim's favorite person. Gavin Gray
- 2:44Speaker 1: from the UK. For more from Early Edition with Ryan Bridge.
