- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, well, Chris Daly has joined us for the
- 0:02Speaker 1: first edition of the daily recap of this new season
- 0:06Speaker 1: forty years Where's.
- 0:07Speaker 2: The Time Gone?
- 0:08Speaker 3: Thank you for bringing that up.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I mean, heck, Heed Debbie is a player once upon
- 0:11Speaker 2: a time, it's flown by, that's for sure. Sure.
- 0:15Speaker 1: What are your what are your thoughts on today? First
- 0:16Speaker 1: time playing in front of the home folk here at Gamble, and.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Uh, well, at first I thought the crowd was amazing
- 0:23Speaker 3: for an exhibition game. Yeah, you know, so, I think
- 0:25Speaker 3: the students are always you know, they show up and
- 0:27Speaker 3: just a really great crowd to start the season off.
- 0:31Speaker 3: So I think it's going to be one of those
- 0:32Speaker 3: years where we're just gonna have There's a lot of
- 0:35Speaker 3: interests there has been has been building the last few years,
- 0:37Speaker 3: and I think we're going to enjoy that.
- 0:40Speaker 1: They sold out the season tickets here for Gamble, so
- 0:42Speaker 1: you know, every time you play here, this place is
- 0:43Speaker 1: going to be rocking.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Yeah. Well, and it helps because the students are here
- 0:47Speaker 3: and the students are really close to the floor, so
- 0:48Speaker 3: I think that that really helps. But you know, for
- 0:52Speaker 3: the first you know, first there were there were moments
- 0:54Speaker 3: where we were really really good and then there were
- 0:56Speaker 3: moments where we were not so good. So I think
- 0:59Speaker 3: that's to be expected in the first time out. I
- 1:02Speaker 3: think it's also to be expected with a team. You know,
- 1:06Speaker 3: we lost two seniors that played a lot for us,
- 1:08Speaker 3: and you know, we replaced them with young players, you know,
- 1:11Speaker 3: with with freshmen and with the exception of Caitlin, So
- 1:15Speaker 3: I think it's going to look that way at times.
- 1:17Speaker 3: We're just you know, trying to get better every day.
- 1:20Speaker 1: What are your thoughts in the development of your post
- 1:21Speaker 1: players early on this season? What you've seen from Sarah
- 1:24Speaker 1: and Ice and Jenna.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Well, we can't foul, you know, we can't afford to foul,
- 1:31Speaker 3: and so that's something that we have to continue to
- 1:33Speaker 3: work on. I think Sarah has been as a freshman.
- 1:37Speaker 3: I don't think she plays like a freshman. I mean,
- 1:39Speaker 3: at times she does, but a lot of times she doesn't.
- 1:42Speaker 3: So we really have to just say experience factor. You know,
- 1:46Speaker 3: with all three of them, Jana's not played and Ice
- 1:49Speaker 3: played the most she played all last year was in
- 1:52Speaker 3: the Big East Tournament and moving on. So there's really
- 1:55Speaker 3: again an inexperienced factor that we have to get experienced
- 2:00Speaker 3: real quick.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah, that's for sure. I mean other than Page and Caitlin.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I mean, it's Caitlyn's first year here, but she has
- 2:05Speaker 1: plenty of experience. And yes, KK and Ashland played a
- 2:09Speaker 1: lot last season. I get that, but they're just in
- 2:11Speaker 1: their second year. There's not a lot of veterans on
- 2:15Speaker 1: this team. There are, but they're all sitting on the
- 2:17Speaker 1: bench right now.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Well, and that, you know, And that's the thing. There's
- 2:21Speaker 3: there's no age limit to being great. There's no age
- 2:24Speaker 3: limit to playing well. So I think we just have
- 2:29Speaker 3: to have, you know, the most consistent effort that we
- 2:31Speaker 3: can game in and game out. So there are some
- 2:33Speaker 3: days as long as the effort is the same, and
- 2:35Speaker 3: that's you know, that starts to practice. And I think
- 2:37Speaker 3: that's something we've had the last probably week, probably some
- 2:42Speaker 3: of our best practices. So those are all good things.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Chris.
- 2:46Speaker 1: You know, I remember asking Paige in the first media
- 2:49Speaker 1: veil on the first day of practice, you know, just
- 2:51Speaker 1: joking about her summer and the summer that she had.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But she also mentioned that, you know, people saw maybe
- 2:56Speaker 1: this in a couple of snippets, but people don't realize
- 2:59Speaker 1: how hard she works in basketball, you know, not only
- 3:03Speaker 1: in practice. But in the weight room and all that,
- 3:05Speaker 1: and you kind of saw that today.
- 3:07Speaker 3: She loves the game. You know, Paige has a passion
- 3:09Speaker 3: for it. And although she you know, there's a lot
- 3:12Speaker 3: of attention Paiger on the social media side and the
- 3:15Speaker 3: media side, and she's had some great opportunities because of that,
- 3:19Speaker 3: it you know, doesn't minimize or she still works and
- 3:23Speaker 3: she's one of those players. And I remember her saying
- 3:26Speaker 3: this when Nil first came out. You know, her first
- 3:29Speaker 3: thought was like, I want to be known as a
- 3:30Speaker 3: basketball player. I don't want to be known as somebody
- 3:32Speaker 3: on social media. And while you know, you can enjoy that,
- 3:36Speaker 3: like I said, and take advantage of those opportunities, if
- 3:39Speaker 3: you don't put in the work, then you're not ever
- 3:41Speaker 3: going to really be able to reach her potential basketball wise.
- 3:44Speaker 3: And she has done a lot of work physically, you know,
- 3:48Speaker 3: for her body and putting time into that. She is
- 3:51Speaker 3: very dedicated. Has changed her whole mindset in terms of that,
- 3:54Speaker 3: and in basketball. I think she's put a lot of
- 3:56Speaker 3: time into that as well.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I am just looking forward to see Page and Asy
- 4:02Speaker 1: knock on wood, cross your fingers play a whole season together.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Well, yeah, you know, you hope that you have your
- 4:08Speaker 3: whole team play the whole season together, you know, and
- 4:10Speaker 3: we're just I think a little gun shy, you know,
- 4:13Speaker 3: people in general, because of what's happened to us in
- 4:15Speaker 3: the last few years. But I can tell you this,
- 4:17Speaker 3: it's not for lack of effort on you know, our
- 4:20Speaker 3: staff's part, our supports staff's part, or our player's part.
- 4:24Speaker 3: I mean, sometimes freak things happen, Like the thing that
- 4:26Speaker 3: happened with Eana was a freak thing. So we you know,
- 4:30Speaker 3: we do everything that we can to prevent it, and
- 4:33Speaker 3: and we just go with what happens because we can't.
- 4:36Speaker 3: We can't change that because it's a game of contact.
- 4:39Speaker 3: It's a game, you know, it's game. So hopefully we
- 4:42Speaker 3: all have an opportunity to have everybody on the court
- 4:45Speaker 3: at the same time and be available at the same time,
- 4:47Speaker 3: and that's what, you know, everyone's goal is.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Speaking of knee injuries, have you had a chance to
- 4:52Speaker 1: talk to Nika at all?
- 4:54Speaker 2: I did. I text with her before surgery.
- 4:56Speaker 3: I was hoping that they would film her winch was
- 4:59Speaker 3: coming out of her, Anatusha's drooling or saying something bizarre,
- 5:03Speaker 3: But I have not gotten any of that. But she
- 5:05Speaker 3: sent me a picture of her knee, and then I
- 5:08Speaker 3: saw a picture on I'm gonna talk to her today.
- 5:10Speaker 2: All right, Please tell her we said hi, I will,
- 5:13Speaker 2: I will.
- 5:13Speaker 3: She's gotten a lot of support, and I'm hoping that
- 5:16Speaker 3: she's going to be able to get out here at
- 5:18Speaker 3: some point. I don't know when that will be, depending
- 5:20Speaker 3: on you know, her rehab and that you know, those
- 5:23Speaker 3: first few weeks are really important. So not that the
- 5:26Speaker 3: whole thing.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Isn't important, but it's a grind.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm not sure when she would be able
- 5:30Speaker 3: to fly, but I think that she has every intention
- 5:33Speaker 3: to coming back here at some point.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Good.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Well, the Rapture's got to learn a new name, because
- 5:37Speaker 1: you know, Nika is his favorite player, so really, yeah,
- 5:40Speaker 1: who plays basketball?
- 5:41Speaker 3: Nika does well and she will be back, will and
- 5:45Speaker 3: she will be.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Back, And it's off for real. On Thursday, the whole
- 5:48Speaker 1: band begins again.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Yeap, it's exciting, it's it's it's getting earlier and earlier
- 5:53Speaker 3: every year, right, yeah, November seventh, that you used to
- 5:56Speaker 3: not have your first game until almost Thanksgiving. So I
- 6:01Speaker 3: think the kids are going to enjoy it, just because
- 6:02Speaker 3: they get tired of practice. Coaches know we need more practice,
- 6:06Speaker 3: but kids like to just go right to the games.
- 6:08Speaker 3: But it'll be fun. We're looking forward to.
- 6:10Speaker 2: It, all right. Do you have the scout? I do not,
- 6:13Speaker 2: all right, I do not. Who was your first scout?
- 6:14Speaker 2: USFU North Carolina? Okay, and that's coming up. Wow, that's
- 6:18Speaker 2: coming up quick. Yep. All right, Chris.
- 6:20Speaker 1: We look forward to having you all season along, all
- 6:23Speaker 1: season long. Once again, we appreciate you coming out.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Thank you, all right.
