- 0:01Yoga practitioners have a number of different methods.
- 0:05They have utilized to try to gain control over the movement
- 0:09of vital desire. The disturbances caused by
- 0:13desire, and the distractions that result are clearly inimical
- 0:18to success. In the yogic sadhna, some like,
- 0:23those who practice various forms of tantric tradition, believe
- 0:28that the hero yogging can conquer desire through conscious
- 0:31Indulgence. For most people.
- 0:34However, this becomes an excuse that the vital uses to convince
- 0:39the mind to play along. Indulgent need not be through
- 0:45outward action. Inward Indulgence is every bit
- 0:49as distracting and disturbing to the practice as outward
- 0:52Indulgence. Inward Indulgence occurs when
- 0:55one abstains from the outer action.
- 0:57Prompted by the rising desire. But nevertheless dwells on it in
- 1:03the mind and the inner senses former president of the United
- 1:08States. Jimmy Carter famously, admitted
- 1:11that he had committed adultery in his heart, although not in
- 1:15any outer action. He recognized what many people
- 1:19fail to understand, namely that the inner Is every bit the same
- 1:25in Practical effect on the inner being, as the outer Indulgence.
- 1:32If not Indulgence, then there are those who attempt to
- 1:35suppress desire through force of will or in some cases, through
- 1:39exercise of physical torture. The monks who practice
- 1:44self-flagellation or use the Solis to oppress the body and
- 1:48there by train it, not to give in to desire, eventually find
- 1:53that they're not only harming the physical instrument, but in
- 1:57fact are dwelling on the force of Desire far more than they
- 2:00likely would otherwise thus the mission fails.
- 2:06This leaves them, the method of rejection of the desire, the
- 2:10vibration as it is entering from outside.
- 2:14Can simply be refused the channel, tuned elsewhere.
- 2:20Just as a child outgrows, childish, toys and games.
- 2:23As he matures turning his attention elsewhere, we can tune
- 2:28our awareness and focus to vibrations.
- 2:31Other than those that raise up desire in the vital being One
- 2:37method is to bring forward the psychic being and focus on the
- 2:40aspiration that resides there. Another is to shift the
- 2:45attention to the spiritual consciousness and simply
- 2:49concentrate the being in that direction.
- 2:53SRI aurobindo writes, quote. It is true that the mirror
- 2:58suppression are holding down of Desire is not enough, not by
- 3:02itself, truly effective, but that does not mean that desires
- 3:07are to be indulged. It means that desires have not
- 3:11merely to be suppressed, but to be rejected from the nature.
- 3:16Your theory is a mistaken. One, the free expression of a
- 3:20passion may relieve the vital for a Time.
- 3:23But at the same time, it gives you the right to return, always
- 3:27it is not reduced at all. Suppression with inner
- 3:31Indulgence in subtle forms is not a cure but expression and
- 3:36outer Indulgence is still less secure.
- 3:39It is perfectly possible to go on without manifestation.
- 3:44If one is Resolute to arrive at a complete control, to control
- 3:49being not a mere suppression, but an inner and outer
- 3:53rejection. You do not seem to have a
- 3:57correct idea of the nature of idol desire.
- 4:01Vital desired Grows by being indulged.
- 4:04It does not become satisfied. If your desire were indulged, it
- 4:09would begin to grow more and more and ask for more and more
- 4:13that has been our constant experience with the sadhaks.
- 4:17And it confirms, what has always been known about desire, desire
- 4:21and envy have to be thrown out of the Consciousness.
- 4:25There is no other way to deal with them end quote.
