- 2:47Speaker 1: I get my stories from. Let's get right into the
- 2:49Speaker 1: business stuff. Versus is returning. You know, I love Okay,
- 2:57Speaker 1: maybe I don't. I don't hate Versus. It's just that
- 3:01Speaker 1: at some point, especially during the Lockdown. I wasn't really
- 3:08Speaker 1: that into it, Don't get me wrong. I watched a
- 3:12Speaker 1: couple of them because some of them I just had
- 3:14Speaker 1: to see right locks and Dips said, we know that's
- 3:16Speaker 1: the only one yall remember. But there was also Riza
- 3:20Speaker 1: and DJ Premier, Redman and method Man DeAngelo rest in Peace. Like,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I watched some of the verses, but after a while,
- 3:29Speaker 1: I was a little tired of the rhetoric. I was
- 3:31Speaker 1: a little tired of seeing the same things put in
- 3:34Speaker 1: the chat. Everybody's the goat and it's just after a while,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I was like, you know what, sports is still on?
- 3:39Speaker 1: We locked down with Sports is on. Okay, so I'm
- 3:44Speaker 1: not the biggest fan, but I do understand how popular
- 3:48Speaker 1: it is. And for the longest time. They took a break,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you know, because we was outside, took a nice break,
- 3:55Speaker 1: and I think now is the right time to return.
- 4:02Speaker 1: And I think they probably picked one of the most
- 4:05Speaker 1: interesting battles so to speak of versus that will probably
- 4:12Speaker 1: make people watch in a ten and that is Cash
- 4:15Speaker 1: Money Records versus No Limit Records, Third Man versus Master
- 4:22Speaker 1: p New Orleans. You know what I'm saying. Honestly, everybody
- 4:27Speaker 1: got to be there. Everybody got to be there. Everybody
- 4:30Speaker 1: that can be there has to be there right for
- 4:33Speaker 1: this battle to really come across as something worth watching.
- 4:39Speaker 1: This is on Hip HOPDX dot Com, Swiss Beats, and Timberland.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Versus Battle series is finally set to return this month.
- 4:46Speaker 1: If you're from the future, you already saw it. Why
- 4:49Speaker 1: are you here? Well, thank you for being there. And
- 4:54Speaker 1: there's a heavyweight clash on the cars. The legendary producers
- 4:57Speaker 1: announced on Tuesday that Versus will make it's comeback on
- 5:01Speaker 1: October twenty fifth at Complex Con in Las Vegas, where
- 5:06Speaker 1: fans will get to see Cash many Cash Money Records
- 5:09Speaker 1: based off against No Limit Records. Now, who wins? I
- 5:16Speaker 1: need you to put your comments in the comments section
- 5:18Speaker 1: below if we go and I think it's supposed to
- 5:20Speaker 1: be like I think Versus like twenty songs, Versus twenty songs?
- 5:24Speaker 1: Who wins? I'm gonna tell you right now, Cash Money Records? Baby.
- 5:30Speaker 1: I like No Limit, but there's a lot of weak
- 5:34Speaker 1: albums in their catalog and some weak artists. Now, don't
- 5:37Speaker 1: get me wrong, they got them. Master P got a
- 5:40Speaker 1: couple of joints. Make them say, uh, ghetto dope. I
- 5:44Speaker 1: hope he does that because I like that's the personal
- 5:46Speaker 1: favorite of minus. What was the one like I missed
- 5:50Speaker 1: my homies or whatever? I don't know that one mea
- 5:53Speaker 1: X has some heat. You know, there's some there's some joints,
- 5:56Speaker 1: ice cream Man song like this, they have a instacle.
- 6:03Speaker 1: They have a couple of joints, but Cash Money has
- 6:08Speaker 1: too many. The minute they do back that thing up,
- 6:12Speaker 1: bling bling, cash Money is the army Lil Wayne pick one.
- 6:19Speaker 1: It can get crazy, but it'll be interesting. Am I
- 6:23Speaker 1: gonna watch? I will not. I think boxing's on around
- 6:26Speaker 1: in time, so don't kill me in basketball is back?
- 6:31Speaker 1: Y'all asking a lot of a brother, Okay, but what
- 6:35Speaker 1: do you think who's going to win? Leave your comments
- 6:38Speaker 1: in a comments section below. They put some of the
- 6:40Speaker 1: songs down, especially for No Limit because I feel like
- 6:43Speaker 1: because No Limit didn't really well. They do have Snoop.
- 6:48Speaker 1: They had to count a Lil Wayne and Don't Sleep.
- 6:52Speaker 1: That first Snoop album was Trash on No Limit. But
- 6:56Speaker 1: the two after that those were some of the album,
- 7:00Speaker 1: especially the last meal. So they have some joints and
- 7:05Speaker 1: probably some people. We didn't even know it was on
- 7:07Speaker 1: a label, So we'll We'll see what happens, but again,
- 7:10Speaker 1: leave your comments in a comment section below. Next. All right,
- 7:17Speaker 1: so yeah, I've been waiting for it. We all wondered
- 7:21Speaker 1: what would happen. But Big L as a part of
- 7:25Speaker 1: mass Appeals seven Legends seven I cons album release that
- 7:30Speaker 1: so far has been pretty good, with the last release
- 7:34Speaker 1: being mob D, which I'll review in a few bars.
- 7:39Speaker 1: But they announced that Big L's album will drop on Halloween,
- 7:45Speaker 1: October thirty. First, the title of the album is Harlem's
- 7:49Speaker 1: Finest Return of the King, and the lead single features
- 7:54Speaker 1: Nas on a song called you Ain't Got a Chance Now.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Me personally, I was, I'm wondering, what is this album
- 8:03Speaker 1: gonna be? Are these verses we've heard before I've said
- 8:07Speaker 1: on other podcasts, Maybe they were verses that were locked
- 8:12Speaker 1: up in contracts, maybe songs, maybe a full album that
- 8:16Speaker 1: was locked up in a contract with I think he
- 8:18Speaker 1: was on Columbia originally because him and Nas I believe
- 8:21Speaker 1: we label mates. But maybe Big L had a whole
- 8:26Speaker 1: album that was shelved and he signed a Rockefeller deal
- 8:32Speaker 1: to do a new album. But and who knows, maybe
- 8:35Speaker 1: there was some stuff with Rockefeller that he had already started.
- 8:38Speaker 1: But Sometimes things aren't out just because they were recorded.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Sometimes they are locked down and you don't even know
- 8:45Speaker 1: they exist. So maybe they're versus songs, a full album whatever.
- 8:51Speaker 1: But this first single featuring NAS and Big L, my
- 8:56Speaker 1: first time listening to the song was watching a video,
- 9:00Speaker 1: and I think the video made me like the song
- 9:03Speaker 1: a lot. Now, to get this out the way, as
- 9:07Speaker 1: far as bars, they spin, Big L getting busy, Nah's
- 9:12Speaker 1: getting busy. It's dope right the beat. When I heard
- 9:17Speaker 1: the teaser, I was just like, hmm, it sounds like
- 9:20Speaker 1: really old, you know, like has an older feel to it,
- 9:23Speaker 1: like nineties. That could be on purpose. That could be
- 9:27Speaker 1: a new beat done to sound like nineties. That could
- 9:30Speaker 1: be an old beat, but whatever the case. When you
- 9:32Speaker 1: watch the video, which has a vintage feel that doesn't
- 9:37Speaker 1: look old, it's styled in a way to look old,
- 9:44Speaker 1: and you could tell stylistically it's meant to look that
- 9:48Speaker 1: way that it looks dope, and it makes the record dope,
- 9:53Speaker 1: and all the vintage footage of big Al not in
- 9:56Speaker 1: a way that makes you feel like, oh man, he's
- 9:58Speaker 1: not here. It's just done really well and the song
- 10:02Speaker 1: is cool. So I'm optimistic considering this is only one
- 10:08Speaker 1: song because when I went and looked up the album
- 10:11Speaker 1: and let me just make sure again, sixteen songs. Big
- 10:15Speaker 1: il ain't here, y'all. I hope you know so again,
- 10:20Speaker 1: either he has a lot of records in the can
- 10:27Speaker 1: maybe NAS made those albums you know available, he just
- 10:32Speaker 1: paid for him, Like yo, okay, what would it take
- 10:34Speaker 1: Sony to buy this album from you? Guys? Or whoever
- 10:39Speaker 1: owns Rockefeller? What would it take to buy this from you?
- 10:42Speaker 1: And they just go ahead and do that, we'll see.
- 10:46Speaker 1: And lastly, so it's been about a week since Mob
- 10:52Speaker 1: Deep's latest album, Infinite dropped again another one of the
- 10:58Speaker 1: seven Legends seven Icons roll out for Massive Pill Records
- 11:06Speaker 1: the album again. You know, I've let me just say this.
- 11:13Speaker 1: If you don't know the way I review albums, I
- 11:17Speaker 1: give them three listens right. One is just insie impressions.
- 11:21Speaker 1: The second listen is to really listen intently to the bars,
- 11:24Speaker 1: to the beats, to the sequence of the album everything,
- 11:29Speaker 1: And the third listen is just to confirm my thoughts.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But since it's been a week, I've listened to this
- 11:35Speaker 1: probably one hundred times. And if you need a quick review,
- 11:41Speaker 1: that's all the review you know this is one of
- 11:43Speaker 1: the best albums of the year, hands down. Now, y'all
- 11:47Speaker 1: know how I do at the end of the year,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I'm going to give you ten best albums of the
- 11:53Speaker 1: year and a top five. This goes right into the
- 11:57Speaker 1: top five. This and clips album like God sort about
- 12:04Speaker 1: untouchable in the top five for twenty twenty five unless
- 12:08Speaker 1: something crazy happens. But nothing crazy is going to happen.
- 12:12Speaker 1: This album's great. This album has fifteen songs and comes
- 12:18Speaker 1: in at fifty one minutes. Features include the clips Big NOI,
- 12:24Speaker 1: Nas I Think this is Georgia Smith hopefully that's how
- 12:29Speaker 1: you pronounced her name. Nas is on hit three times y'all,
- 12:35Speaker 1: ray Kwon, ghost Face and Her Now When I tell
- 12:41Speaker 1: you the singles the snippets leading up to this album
- 12:48Speaker 1: told me right away this album could be crazy, could
- 12:52Speaker 1: be right. There's a couple of things we had to
- 12:54Speaker 1: look at, right is do they do a great job
- 12:59Speaker 1: of having Prodigy sound like he's hair and he rapped
- 13:03Speaker 1: over these beats, not necessarily even just wrapped over these
- 13:06Speaker 1: beats that he was collaborating with Alchemists and Havoc, who
- 13:12Speaker 1: handled all the production. It sounds like that it sounds
- 13:17Speaker 1: like some of the things that Prodigy was saying on
- 13:20Speaker 1: certain tracks felt like he was present, right And when
- 13:25Speaker 1: I say President, we know he passed away, rip Prodigy
- 13:29Speaker 1: and all of that, but I mean, like, in the
- 13:32Speaker 1: ways Tupac talked about himself being in the afterlife, Prodigy
- 13:40Speaker 1: does that a couple times on here, and it's aerie
- 13:43Speaker 1: because it feels like it's him talking to us, which
- 13:47Speaker 1: is dope, and that's not the whole album. This is
- 13:50Speaker 1: a Mob Deep album. Literally, this is the best Mob
- 13:54Speaker 1: Deep album since Murder Music. Like I did her a
- 13:58Speaker 1: ranking a Mob Deep album, this one, even though I
- 14:02Speaker 1: wouldn't call it a classic right away only because I
- 14:06Speaker 1: feel like it's good. But The Infamous and Hell on
- 14:13Speaker 1: Earth are classic Mob Deep albums in my opinion. Is
- 14:18Speaker 1: this one that I might put this adda Murder Music.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I don't know. We'll see as time goes by. But
- 14:25Speaker 1: some of my favorites on here include look at Me
- 14:31Speaker 1: featuring the clips. I love the way it's not you go,
- 14:36Speaker 1: you go, you go, then you Go, and the song
- 14:39Speaker 1: it's literally like tag team wrestling, you know what I'm saying,
- 14:45Speaker 1: Like Pusher and Malice are kind of rapping together. Sometimes
- 14:49Speaker 1: you know, they sometimes sound the same, so sometimes you
- 14:52Speaker 1: can't tell who's saying what, but it just sounds dope.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Same thing with Prodigy, maybe not as dynamic, but Prodigy
- 15:00Speaker 1: and half but still dope. The song with Big Noid
- 15:06Speaker 1: that that am the O the B the B I heard.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I heard a snippet of that before the album dropped,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and I thought it was dope. Taj Mahall, I mean,
- 15:18Speaker 1: this is the ace trumpets of this Mob Deep album.
- 15:22Speaker 1: When that comes on, Man, the hoodie gotta go on.
- 15:25Speaker 1: You gotta put the hoodie on when you're listening to
- 15:28Speaker 1: Taj Mahall my Eraror. I like that instantly. And I
- 15:33Speaker 1: don't usually like songs, not that they shouldn't exist, not
- 15:38Speaker 1: that they aren't dope, but I'm not the biggest fan
- 15:42Speaker 1: of songs where you not not just paying it now.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It sounds like, you know, I'm issuing on it. But
- 15:50Speaker 1: it's just a lot of name dropping, and sometimes it's
- 15:54Speaker 1: just like, well, there's nothing here but me listening to
- 15:57Speaker 1: a bunch of names get mentioned. But I kind of
- 16:00Speaker 1: like this one because it felt like Mob Deep from
- 16:04Speaker 1: that era given respect to people from that era, including
- 16:09Speaker 1: Dog Pound, who they had back and forth with during
- 16:12Speaker 1: that era. It just sounds really dope. My favorite at
- 16:18Speaker 1: the moment is a toss up between what's the record
- 16:24Speaker 1: down for you? Featuring Nas and Georgia Smith and I
- 16:31Speaker 1: like the Herd version also, but on the flip side,
- 16:35Speaker 1: on the grainy side, poor the Henny, that beat, Noah
- 16:44Speaker 1: spitting on that joint, Prodigy spit and having spit. You
- 16:47Speaker 1: know this, This is like classic Nas and Mob deep collaboration.
- 16:55Speaker 1: It's so much I could say about this album That's
- 16:58Speaker 1: probably been said by everybody at this point in time,
- 17:01Speaker 1: but I definitely wanted to give you guys my review,
- 17:04Speaker 1: my take. It's in the top five dog end of
- 17:08Speaker 1: the year. You could bucket now again something crazy, something
- 17:12Speaker 1: crazy would have to happen to get to the point
- 17:15Speaker 1: where I moved so many new albums that are coming
- 17:19Speaker 1: into the top five falls that somehow Mob D gets
- 17:26Speaker 1: into the best of the year that ten, which is
- 17:29Speaker 1: still great. But right now I can't stop playing this joint.
- 17:33Speaker 1: What do you think about this album? Do you love it?
- 17:36Speaker 1: Do you like it? Is it cool? What are some
- 17:38Speaker 1: of your favorite tracks? Leave your comments in a comments
- 17:41Speaker 1: section below, But before we end, have one bonus story
- 17:48Speaker 1: that I want to go over if you don't know,
- 17:51Speaker 1: but you should know. R and B singer D'Angelo passed
- 17:56Speaker 1: away recently at the age of fifty one from pancreatic cancer,
- 18:02Speaker 1: devastating news to someone like myself who is a huge fan.
- 18:06Speaker 1: And I'll tell you real quick why I'm a huge fan,
- 18:09Speaker 1: because I'm a fan of like old school rhythm and
- 18:14Speaker 1: blues bands like Earth Winding Fire and Ohio Players and
- 18:21Speaker 1: Parliament Funkadelic. Like I'm a fan of those bands because
- 18:26Speaker 1: I love funk, and I love the different styles of singing.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I love the creativity, the musicianship that comes with those
- 18:35Speaker 1: particular groups and artists. And when I first saw and
- 18:41Speaker 1: heard di'angelo on his lead single to his debut album,
- 18:45Speaker 1: Brown Sugar, it was something about him that was really
- 18:50Speaker 1: hip hop. The way he was dressed, the fact that
- 18:53Speaker 1: he had corn rolls, you know, he had a leather
- 18:55Speaker 1: coat on it, he was smoking a cigarette and playing
- 18:59Speaker 1: a p and it was so soul full. And you know,
- 19:04Speaker 1: he got funky records also, but it was so soulful,
- 19:07Speaker 1: but it felt like hip hop too with the way
- 19:11Speaker 1: he would write and his style of singing that I
- 19:15Speaker 1: was like, Wow, my generation has one of those types
- 19:19Speaker 1: of artists, the artists that I like from back in
- 19:22Speaker 1: the days. Now we have one. And obviously he didn't
- 19:25Speaker 1: release many albums. I think in general there are four, right,
- 19:30Speaker 1: Brown Sugar, Voodoo, Black Messiah, and then the other the
- 19:35Speaker 1: live album that he had. And though his career was short,
- 19:41Speaker 1: and though I felt like when I saw that Brown
- 19:44Speaker 1: Sugar video like yo, he's kind of hip hop, he
- 19:47Speaker 1: collaborated with hip hop throughout the years. So really quick,
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'm going to give you my five best D'Angelo collaborations
- 19:56Speaker 1: with hip hop, starting at the very top with Jay
- 20:01Speaker 1: Dillar and Common off the shining album So Far Gone.
- 20:06Speaker 1: I love this record. I will never be tired of
- 20:10Speaker 1: this record. J Dillon did his thing on the beat,
- 20:13Speaker 1: Common did his thing with the rams. DeAngelo with the hook,
- 20:17Speaker 1: the harmonizing. Harmonizing is excellent. Lady remix with Azu. This
- 20:24Speaker 1: is the song off of the Brown Sugar album produced
- 20:27Speaker 1: by DJ Premier. The remix is produced by DJ Premier.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I just thought this was dope and unexpected. The original
- 20:35Speaker 1: Lady is a straight up R and B, cool smooth groove.
- 20:40Speaker 1: The DJ Premier joint is like put your times on
- 20:44Speaker 1: and talk to the lady. It's like, you know, that's
- 20:46Speaker 1: the difference, right, You got your wing tips on on
- 20:50Speaker 1: the original, you got your times on on the remix
- 20:53Speaker 1: with a Z and Az did his thing. Our next
- 20:56Speaker 1: song you probably heard a million times left and right
- 20:59Speaker 1: off of d Angelo's Voodoo album featuring Redman and method Man.
- 21:04Speaker 1: You funk the guitar licks of Funky in this joint
- 21:09Speaker 1: and Red Man and this is Redman and method Man
- 21:11Speaker 1: as a duo in their prime dope record. How many
- 21:17Speaker 1: is that? Three? So two more? Imagine off of Snoop
- 21:21Speaker 1: Dogg's album The Blue Carpet Treatment, produced by Doctor Dre.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I never knew the Angelo could sound so dope over
- 21:28Speaker 1: a dre beat like that. Like that, that song is dope.
- 21:32Speaker 1: If you've never heard it, do yourself a favor. And
- 21:36Speaker 1: last Q tip the Renaissance a song called Believe. I
- 21:42Speaker 1: really like that. Like again, I'm a big fan of D'Angelo.
- 21:46Speaker 1: I like his harmonized and I like what he I
- 21:49Speaker 1: like the fact that he was so unique compared to others.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Some people consider him part of the or you know,
- 21:58Speaker 1: the leaders of the neo soul movement, even though you
- 22:03Speaker 1: know it's still it's soul music. It's not neo so
- 22:06Speaker 1: but whatever, the neo soul movement along whatever, Kaba doing,
- 22:10Speaker 1: Maxwell whatever. And when you think about those that big
- 22:13Speaker 1: three you can throw Jill Scott, then I'm gonna keep
- 22:18Speaker 1: going at this boy. You can throw music so Child
- 22:20Speaker 1: but whatever. D'Angelo was unique. He was one of a
- 22:25Speaker 1: con You could tell he was a hip hop head also,
- 22:29Speaker 1: and you know, it's terrible to lose him. But I
- 22:33Speaker 1: think if you're not familiar with him and you're a
- 22:36Speaker 1: hip hop head, check out those songs I mentioned and
- 22:39Speaker 1: if you like what he does, go check out the album.
- 22:42Speaker 1: So reci peace D'Angelo. You can follow me on social
