- 0:07On Monday, October 7th, 1935, the Chicago Cubs faced the Detroit Tigers at Naven Field for Game 6 of the 1935 World Series.
- 0:17Detroit led the series three games to two. After the Cubs had won Game 1, the Tigers won three straight, including two at Wrigley Field, to make it within one game of the championship.
- 0:27The Cubs showed some life in Game 5 and went on to win three to two when the Game 1 starters Lon Warnick and Schoolboy Rowe faced off again with the same results.
- 0:35Game 6 was back in Detroit and the Cubs would send Larry French to the mound to face the Tigers' 21 game winner, Tommy Bridges.
- 0:42This audio recording is from the NBC Radio broadcast featuring announcers Hal Totten, Ty Tyson, and Boke Carter.
- 0:49The World Series is on the air. This is Hal Totten at Naven Field in Detroit, where the Cubs and the Detroit Tigers are battling for the championship of the baseball world.
- 0:59The play-by-play descriptions of all the World Series teams are brought to you again this year with the compliments of the Ford Motor Company, Mr. Henry Ford, Mr. Epsil Ford, and your local Ford Specialist.
- 1:12These punches will be amply repaid if you've got enjoyment from these broadcasts.
- 1:17We're about to go into the sixth and a very vital game in this World Series, and sitting out here since early this morning, wandering through the stands, and then coming back to a side fighter has been that commentator who was here to deal at the start of our broadcast each day during this series.
- 1:34And again, I take great pleasure in presenting Boke Carter.
- 1:38Hello everyone, Boke Carter speaking, and here we are back again at Naven Field in Detroit.
- 1:43Perhaps a little skinnier, but a chestin's up to a little open little bit higher than it was.
- 1:48But the Cubs are confident that the Tigers were going to Detroit.
- 1:51It's the first World Series World Championship in big two-way disarmament, and that's a long, long time, ladies and gentlemen, a very long time.
- 1:58And Mickey Coffin is patting himself on the back for playing a hunt yesterday, using skinny boy role, and not having some of the bridges in the door to throw the Cubs to the sixth game back in the Tigers' own way.
- 2:09And the way the Tigers feel confident can be the thousand reasons that the two lose but one more victory at the Kingsland title.
- 2:15And victory often hangs on such splendid places and never a hit or a small sweep of base running.
- 2:21And second, let's have a vision that sixty-two makes the victory, and this game feels already, and this period.
- 2:26Charlie Grimler, oh, is hard put to find the pictures, but they still stand up under the face.
- 2:31And although little one smiles and handed him the 15th, yesterday she turned right around and there's three ligaments, and there's several of that great four pictures along the way.
- 2:40It's most likely we'll make him under the rules of services again this year.
- 2:44So Charlie would have to call out the rest of the ladders, right, the difference would be right at the picture of the Cubs.
- 2:50The pictures of the Cubs, the ladders had to be in his left and the ladders had to go in the corner.
- 2:54And then of course the Tigers as they set it back in the room home run, and the left field sent it short, even though it is guarded by a thirty foot wire fence too.
- 3:01On the other hand the Cubs go into the sixth game with the realisation of the hundred thousand dollar buffalos.
- 3:06Just trying to invent during that twenty-one game drive which measured the Cubs' dependence,
- 3:11but the thing will lose because it wasn't hidden.
- 3:14It's out now this club, and it's stepping the whole side of the road all the time for ya.
- 3:18Because when time hits and hits, when the homely stairs pass, it will weigh up in the right field, and it will beat the Chicago.
- 3:25Well, my four hundred foot hit.
- 3:27And for several great years, he never was, one hundred three hundred.
- 3:31The list of the psychology may make the Cubs a couple of us for the Detroit Racking too today.
- 3:36But by eleven in the enthusiasm of the crowd, he was tremendous.
- 3:40And even the juicier fans staged a little impromptu congo.
- 3:44They're drawn by the band, and it's cheerleader of the fingers of the ball game.
- 3:48What you'll hear now over the loud speaker system of the ball box is to line up,
- 3:52doing give them all the crowd around, but you'll have it in just a minute,
- 3:55and now it's off to say where to begin your ride on.
- 3:57The rest of the field will beat the right field, of course,
- 4:00which will make your series a tiny technical series.
- 4:02Whereupon, the right field will beat the right field.
- 4:05The air will delight the fools.
- 4:07Well-paying their favourites, the band will step around the right field
- 4:10and conduct the beat right there through the same cheering eggs inside.
- 4:13Whereupon, the left field spectators yell the cats' call and booed encounter the racers.
- 4:18And this kept up for rather than forty-five minutes, and it was very funny.
- 4:22Two great solid fans for humanity, trained out here and out through the other.
- 4:26And the running fire has started, and between the two fans,
- 4:30continued the whole morning, so we'll use the cheer almost anything.
- 4:33Indicate perhaps the intense feeling of run through the automobile sound.
- 4:37And the then return of prosperity in general is invariably fired up
- 4:41after becoming a Mickey Cartman to the town as manager of the Tigers.
- 4:44And their sudden twist up the surge to the top flight of baseball.
- 4:47And in his first few years as manager of the Carts,
- 4:50he had two talent winners, first his son, Pete and his third.
- 4:53During those same two years, the payrolls of the city began to increase again.
- 4:57Paying them to open to better the race, the men employed thinned out
- 5:00and the factory will come back happier than more careful shoes.
- 5:03And before it came to look on its fighters, it was thought that prosperity was solidified.
- 5:07And hence the noisy effect of whatever thing these players did was hit Titeland and the city of Australia.
- 5:12And it's the Tigers, and by the way, got that nickname back in 1898,
- 5:16when the teams those days were fair on the field with all these black stripes stopping.
- 5:20As the Tigers say today's game this town was certainly called ago as Cocoa Residue on Armistice Night.
- 5:26For those that remember that, that's what it was, one quite big slow up.
- 5:30But in today's way, there, my hand is a little interesting to say.
- 5:34As these games this year, the town's got no more interesting figures
- 5:37than the 72-year-old veteran of baseball, Bob Allen,
- 5:40who owns the Knoxville franchise as a possible lead to the Manus of the Tigers way back in 1890s.
- 5:45He bought it was the solo Charlie Grim, the company's manager of the fixed berth of $4,500,
- 5:50and the pilot traded his 10-year-old Frank and allowed this young youngster Grim to look up.
- 5:55But once, Bob Allen and John Mayden above it of Frank,
- 5:58and here was the present team, for the Boston Detroit franchise years ago for $12,500.
- 6:03But they actually turned it down, and now they're still getting lost money.
- 6:07But that was before this was the automobile sector of the nation.
- 6:10And now you just got to listen to the rules from 45,000 first-blowers
- 6:14to realize how time stains the years to which mine.
- 6:17They used to be a plain human on white fields,
- 6:19where now it's beautiful green grass, filled it like in its smooth surface.
- 6:23And before that, the place had been a brickyard,
- 6:25and Bob Allen tells me every so often in later years,
- 6:27brick tubes would work up through the surface of the ground,
- 6:30and the umpires would then call fire while the players went digging
- 6:33and pick them out and toss them off the field.
- 6:35Such is the Caribbean, yet warm history of native fields, too.
- 6:39By the way, the men and the winners were cut between those bells,
- 6:42as grown another day to grow.
- 6:43It's just like Winged Heathman will walk home tonight with $6,831,
- 6:47as his care is a serious cat's repeat.
- 6:49If the cut suddenly accomplished the feeling impossible,
- 6:52and fire up the series, and maybe win tomorrow,
- 6:54they'll at least get $6,574.
- 6:57The distance in the amount being accounted for,
- 7:00but the fact that the fire gets cut down around 25½ times,
- 7:03and the cut's 26½.
- 7:05But the cost loses if they beat Tigers,
- 7:07and we'll get $3,000, $4,564,
- 7:11as against $4,382 to the cut.
- 7:14And it's a good old $2,000 bill,
- 7:16and we saw it all yesterday.
- 7:17The rough distance between the winners and losers
- 7:19still in the angle, centering it before the players.
- 7:22And at the $1,445 the call,
- 7:24the Tigers can double out under the field,
- 7:27and they'll back out off with a third base.
- 7:29He walks right up in the fifth base,
- 7:31a crowd that reminds me,
- 7:32well, not a baseball, but a football,
- 7:33and it's exactly what it is, color.
- 7:34It's set up all left.
- 7:35There's one man in fourth, fully in minutes.
- 7:37There's a great welcome to the homecoming games.
- 7:39And I see there that the umpires are gathering around the plates,
- 7:42so the best things they need to do is to turn the
- 7:44good guys back to hell,
- 7:45talking to the roster lineup for you.
- 7:47Take it away, Harold.
- 7:48Thank you both,
- 7:49and we do have the lineup for today's ball game.
- 7:52Anyone who's taken down,
- 7:54I know many of you people,
- 7:55could get caught.
- 7:56Here we go.
- 7:57There's the team,
- 7:58in the decoy lineup,
- 7:59so note it carefully.
- 8:00For the Tigers,
- 8:02Clifton,
- 8:03third base winners leading off.
- 8:05Clifton third base,
- 8:07Tottenham,
- 8:08Scott,
- 8:09Gearinger,
- 8:10second base,
- 8:12Goslin,
- 8:13left field,
- 8:15Fawkes,
- 8:16right field,
- 8:18Walker,
- 8:20left field,
- 8:22Rogel,
- 8:23short stuff,
- 8:25Olin,
- 8:26first base,
- 8:28and Bridges,
- 8:29and now we pause while the band plays the national anthem.
- 8:59...
- 9:04...
- 9:09...
- 9:14...
- 9:19...
- 9:24What the roll goes up to the bleachers when that natural anthem is completed.
- 9:38That means that we'll be on our way pretty soon.
- 9:40We finish that Detroit lineup.
- 9:42Here is the Chicago lineup.
- 9:43The Chicago course back first, and perhaps we should have given the lineup first.
- 9:47Galen, left field, Herman, second base, flying, right field, Artnett, gothings, Demory, center field,
- 10:00Davoretta, third base, Tannock, third base, Jurgus, shortstop, and Fred, the umpire,
- 10:12Ernie Quigley of the National League behind the plate, Bill McGowan of the American League at first base,
- 10:19Dolly Stark of the National League at second base, and George Moriarty of the American League at third base.
- 10:27Shilty Alpegut of yesterday's recession when the umpires were announced today here in Detroit,
- 10:32the announcement of Moriarty at third Las Vegas here is just ahead of the kidding that George got from the Chicago Center.
- 10:39That is the different lineup things as George is a former star and manager here in the Tiger land.
- 10:46It's been a positive for Alpen, the field taking a fan around the picture of this whole scene.
- 10:51He had the camera on a high fly spot right out back to second base and base as they say,
- 10:57they pan it apart all the way around to get the entire crowd, and those pictures will be something that will go down in the history as a picture of one of the greatest jobs of the world.
- 11:08So he's up to speed out the fight, every inch he's standing room with 10 to use,
- 11:12and here comes the Tigers held on the field on the run with the crowd getting in the great shift.
- 11:17And the energetic and ambitious young Mr. Quinton were in place, great ball at third base,
- 11:21and in addition, has hit many balls hard, although they haven't gone straight, it is leading off,
- 11:26and they figure that he'll do better up there especially against the left hand of the team's artillery play.
- 11:31Good afternoon everybody, we're just about ready to start this sixth game.
- 11:35Bobby Bridges out there, talking a few to Mickey Cochrane,
- 11:38while a leadoff lands from Chicago's Cubs,
- 11:41Barney-Gillan standing here, leaning on his back just outside the left hand's batter spot.
- 11:47The weather today is especially bad for all the teams so far, the miles past, going in to the center field, not bad,
- 11:55the sun is out, and I believe we have the largest crowd here also.
- 12:00Those creatures were filled up long, long ago.
- 12:06Barney has taken the ball from Gary Hiddlehaff and Mike, gave the long throw to second,
- 12:13great thing to do at the off the level, he's out planning to win his second game of the series,
- 12:19and of course the Cubs want to carry this on until tomorrow possible.
- 12:23They wind up starting the first pitch, he's over there, pointing the plate, a more called strike,
- 12:29bringing forth a lot of cheers from the local Grand Prix.
- 12:34One strike is the count on Gillan, Barney starts his wind up again, here comes the pitch,
- 12:38serves one inside for a ball,
- 12:41Bobby dancing away from the plate and the count is one and one.
- 12:46Gillan so far is winning 150 for the series.
- 12:51The next pitch Gillan hits through the box, Bridges part, they deflect it, Ro Gels coming in,
- 12:59and Barney is going out of first.
- 13:02The pass, Barney, right back to the box, Bridges part, they deflect it, Ro Gels came in,
- 13:05passed on the grass, the pitcher does land through the oans for the outers first.
- 13:09Bridges and Ro Gels getting a pitch, on the foot out, and here comes Billy Harman,
- 13:14right hand batter, comes second baseman,
- 13:17carrying a batting average of 250 in the five games so far played.
- 13:23Bridges is ready, starts his wind up, and the pitch is a little high and outside,
- 13:26to the right hand batter, ball one.
- 13:31One ball to count, one land off, nobody on first inning of the sixth game.
- 13:35The on goes up in the motions, it is the pass, ball on the outside, corner,
- 13:39letter high, for a 12 strike, and the count is one and one.
- 13:45Harman stands, he's in a batter's box with his right foot on the back line,
- 13:49he hits a close curve, bombing it back to the pitcher's box,
- 13:52Bridges throwing him out of first, ball to second foot out of the first inning.
- 13:57Two land offs, nobody on, and stuck blind.
- 14:01When did the game of the same kinder the other day, then got him as a regular,
- 14:05when Freddie Minstin, who did his thingers, and followed one yesterday as a bleachers for a home run,
- 14:11and is carrying a nice batting average of 375.
- 14:15Left hand hitter and a hard flutter, the first pitch from Spam is a little high and outside for the ball.
- 14:21Two in off, nobody on, first inning, and the count, one ball on the batter,
- 14:25stuck blind, playing right field with a dunk.
- 14:30Tom Garn goes up for the next pitch, a high hot foul, over near the business, he's done it out,
- 14:35that's down around first fake way, and Olin, how did this go to turn out?
- 14:42No runs, no hits, no errors, three up and three away,
- 14:49Gelland has hit a hard snatch back through the box, Bridges deflecting it to the low gel,
- 14:53who's caused the runner out of first, the Ferman, down to the slow one, to Bridges,
- 14:59through the Olin's what a put out, and flying, fouled, through Olin in front of the club drug out.
- 15:07But they're going to the Tiger half of the first inning with a six-play, and three-pushes.
- 15:12They've had no hit so far in the game these three in, but have been playing a bang-up game on defense
- 15:21in the first place, and making it his first appearance.
- 15:29Almost his perfect appearance as a regular, he's been in two games this year, but very few.
- 15:34The kid has shown plenty of what it takes.
- 15:39I'm glad anything is going off the plate at this, although a series rather immaculate, so much worse.
- 15:46He's gotten his chance to slide into the air and get something all over it.
- 15:51Larry Franks, big net-standers, who was charged into the tee-pee on the day of the release pitchers.
- 15:57He's caught over the club and the first pitch is over the outside corner to Paul's right,
- 16:03which is right-hand batter.
- 16:06And the next one, he's just in the box, rolling slowly to turn family-hack,
- 16:10and then making the next pitch, and so they're trying to run it up first.
- 16:14Nice play by the club and third-pitcher, Stan Hacks.
- 16:17He had to take the ball over near the foul line in front of third-pitch,
- 16:20and he's slow-rolling, and he did not dare lose any time,
- 16:24nor straight enough to make the throw, which was perfect in the fourth-hand or other hand.
- 16:29One out, nobody on, and Ricky Conklin is up.
- 16:32He's got him through, and he's in the leaven.
- 16:35And he didn't even play pitchers at all, ball one.
- 16:44One of all the counts, the home comes up for the next one.
- 16:47That's right through the little fell five, the called swing.
- 16:51Now the count is one and one on the right.
- 16:56One and one with one out, nobody on.
- 16:58The club is there to get another one in there, clear the set.
- 17:01And it's one and one, and Ricky Conklin is in the left field, and it's nothing the same thing.
- 17:06He's in the home and in the right, or any single.
- 17:09The first hit of the day is Conklin, and then it's one and one, and Ricky Conklin is in the third-pitch.
- 17:17And he's got one out in the left hand, or a single.
- 17:21One and one is Connick Gallihan up.
- 17:24Connick Gallihan around the right, and he's running out with the first-pitcher.
- 17:28And he's going to regularly in the game.
- 17:31Rick Stone.
- 17:33He's marked the next-pitch, and he's going to score.
- 17:36He's going to find the mid.
- 17:38I mean, not that long.
- 17:39He's going to find the mid.
- 17:40The first-pitch is the right hand, but he's going to play with Connick.
- 17:44Connick's going to find it, and how he's coming back to second.
- 17:47He's going to play it for a third.
- 17:49He's going to stop.
- 17:51Then, when playing, and how he's fairly funded, he made another break for third.
- 17:56He's going to make this goal, saw the blind and already recovered the ball,
- 18:00and lay in right back to second.
- 18:03One in, one second, and first.
- 18:05One lay out, and two stars, and that is two-and-a-four, is that.
- 18:10That's Connick Gallihan, who's played at the third with Connick on the third.
- 18:15However, that is Carden's after-leave.
- 18:19Pull up a second, and see what happens.
- 18:22He's going to throw it out, but stuff didn't take any time to recover.
- 18:27The first-pitch of the game, they passed ball over the outside corner to a called strike.
- 18:33One in on, one in out, and one in strike on the stars.
- 18:39That's saying about it.
- 18:41The bench is ready.
- 18:42Here's the pitch.
- 18:43The stars are in the hot corner, and over there is the good village elegance.
- 18:47The club is still at the top.
- 18:48Two in and out, and watch another second, and hold it on first,
- 18:53and two spots, and he's batting three-six-and-four, is that.
- 19:03Frank looks over at first base, gets the sign, and some punches,
- 19:06turns it on for a second, he's ready.
- 19:08Box, foul, one in the dirt, there's a handle ball right in,
- 19:11close to his thumb, the curve breaking into him.
- 19:14Coming from the left-hand room, Box, seeing the right-hand batter.
- 19:20Go right in on his thumb.
- 19:22One strike, two out, two on, and the bench is ready.
- 19:26The next pitch, Box, gets down third base,
- 19:28that's all the time.
- 19:30The ball in the foul, there's Box, and the hand-pending carry of the serve.
- 19:35A two-base hit for Box, the official score he has made.
- 19:40Jordan Kauffman with the first run of the game, and sending Carrianger in the third of the court.
- 19:46It's a hard smash for Stanley Hack, the sub-third base with the handle.
- 19:52He managed to partly block the ball, but shoved it on over into foul territory,
- 19:56and it's squirted out into left field.
- 19:59So Jordan left that skill and had to come far in to make the play,
- 20:04and that's why Carrianger got all the way to third and box the second.
- 20:07Now he has Jerry Walker being given an intentional pass.
- 20:11Ball one, ball two, ball three, ball four.
- 20:24D-Walker received an intentional pass to fill the base with two men out, and bring up Bill Rogel, who is hitting 250.
- 20:37Walker has been used as a pinch hitter, fight and has failed a hit.
- 20:43That is the eviscer's forces to create a play at any base.
- 20:48The two men down. Here's the first pitcher, O'Galley, has the following and following and sending a play,
- 20:54and it's forced Carrianger at the plate on French's part to Gabby Hart at the catcher.
- 21:07One run, three hits, no error.
- 21:19And at the end of the first inning of play, the Tigers are leading the Cubs, one for nothing.
- 21:26Come on in now, I'll talk when we do that in the end.
- 21:28Well, that inning made it look as though Tommy Bridges is starting off just worry left off the other day,
- 21:33and that is the very efficient young word for it.
- 21:36In the first inning, one ball was getting hard, that was a smash by DeLand,
- 21:40but Tommy's loaded up with a shoved hand and up so that Rogel could get over and get it in front of the second base and throw him out.
- 21:46Herman then bounced easily to the pitcher, and Cline hit a high foul, which was easy for O'Galley to serve.
- 21:51However, the Tigers stayed in for two. After Kippen grounded out,
- 21:54Kauffman dropped a jet to Gleeker and left for a single.
- 21:57Carrianger put one through the infield and the right field for another single, Kauffman stopping at second.
- 22:03Then Goslin popped out, but Foss got up to his old pick of hitting doubles and hit one down just inside the left field line with that really gagged.
- 22:11His short shot went and put runners on segment three.
- 22:14Walker was perfectly fast, and the strategy worked when Rogel stopped quickly to the pitcher, and then third man was forced to the plate.
- 22:21Here we go in the second inning.
- 22:23Tigers leading one and up in ticket size, and Gavie Hager was up.
- 22:26Bridges first picked a third ball, breaking over the outside corner for a call of strike.
- 22:31Foss got some right-handers, and Kippen's right foot almost out of the batter's box, standing very deep in the back line.
- 22:39The next pick served away from Gavie for a ball, and the count is one-on-one.
- 22:45Hager's leading off in the second quarter-cup. Bridges starts his wind-up, and here's the pick.
- 22:50Gavie's swinging and missing.
- 22:53A swinging strike, and the count is two strikes and one ball.
- 22:57Bridges with 20 fasts with that quick.
- 23:01Gavie is stepped out of the batter's box, resting up a little bit.
- 23:06After that swing, he sure took off on nothing.
- 23:10Now he's back in again. Bridges going on his new van, getting a little moisture on that, and to get the ball a little better.
- 23:16He starts his wind-up, hits on him, fasts wind, a third strike, and a funny thing is that person might have called for letters, they called for a strike.
- 23:26One man out, and the second family is up.
- 23:34The family is adding 200.
- 23:36So far, the game is already played. That's the right-handed also.
- 23:42And Bridges starts his wind-up. The serve is outside. Ball one.
- 23:48One ball is the count. One man out, nobody on him, the second and he.
- 23:57The guys are beating one out of nothing.
- 23:59The next kick is called back, it's a fast ball, flank with a bit on the hook, and fasts the netting.
- 24:06Mike walks, makes the cross one-on-one.
- 24:12Tom takes a little time, the fourth and the third is near ball. He's got the little shape now, throws the numbers, there's the wind-up, and the fish.
- 24:21The third, low and outside. Ball three. Two balls, one strike.
- 24:28One out, and nobody on him.
- 24:35Again, Tommy questions Mike's throw a little bit, makes a stretch, now he gets on another, starts his wind-up.
- 24:43It's called, the serve, a little high ball, three.
- 24:49Tom is trying to break down and it starts to batter shoulders, but it's there to think.
- 24:54And the count is three and one. Now we'll see what this one is.
- 24:58A high one that can hit high into the air in right-steam, six boxes, and a little bit of it, and has it.
- 25:05And everybody is decided, on a fly to box in right-steam for the second foot-out of the second inning.
- 25:14Two in a way, and still, Camareta is up.
- 25:18Camareta is hitting the 1-1-hundred.
- 25:21Little wind-up, this. I'm sure the fourth game I've been in was with him, now.
- 25:29Then it got through. It got through in that game.
- 25:32Left-hand batter has been playing a throw game, and that's what he says. Long defensive play.
- 25:39This is just the, locked-up, it's a low-play, so it's called strike.
- 25:44Camareta's one strike on the field. Tom is trying to wind up one of the next six.
- 25:51High in the side. Oh, and Camareta living away from that fireball.
- 25:57One in the count is one-one. Two out, and nobody on in the second.
- 26:03There's the motion. Here's the fish.
- 26:05Camareta hitting the downcast, going down that right-steam line.
- 26:09Going around first, Mark is momentarily somewhere. The ball is coming in the second,
- 26:14and Camareta is on second, on an error.
- 26:20Guard, I give him an error, wasn't it?
- 26:25They hit, and an error. Guard, fish, Mark.
- 26:29Fingers for Camareta. Mark, guard, with an error.
- 26:33He's failing to pick up the hit, and trying to hold the field to first base.
- 26:38The tying runners on second, two men are out, and it's family hack.
- 26:43That's the left-handed, plays third base for the Cubs, and is hitting one in the 16th.
- 26:48And it goes on. Takes the first hit for the ball and strikes.
- 26:58One in the strike on hack.
- 27:00Tom is ready, hands are picked. Hack, rounding the slow, and the getting of the second.
- 27:04Charlie has it, but throw it in Owen's hand, and hack is retired at first.
- 27:09Here he is, and Owen, second to first.
- 27:14Then, Camareta's landed on second.
- 27:21No one, one hit, and one error.
- 27:25Mark, the first up-pand, then it is applied to Fox and Wright.
- 27:29Camareta's thinking fast on, and took an extra base when Fox under the hit.
- 27:34Hack ends the sub-pass of the second, rounding out, getting it on.
- 27:39All right, we're ready to go to the Tiger half of the second, with Marvin Owen still looking for his first hit in the series.
- 27:45Cleaning off for the Tigers.
- 27:48Marvin's been spikied up, and the young Zeezer, he comes out of the debate,
- 27:52and puts the ball strike right through the middle.
- 27:56The belt right hits the flip to be a pin-de from here,
- 28:00and let it hide for the second-forged strike.
- 28:03He has Owen in a hole, two and nothing.
- 28:07Two and nothing, and here's the next, this way outside for the ball.
- 28:12Taking Marvin, I throw for that seven, he can afford to waste a couple yet.
- 28:17He'll count two strikes and one ball.
- 28:20And the strike is swinging, and I throw the serve in there on the inside corner.
- 28:27This brings up Tommy Grishy, who is winning 250.
- 28:37Tommy comes up slowly, gets quite a hand from the local audience.
- 28:42Tom is a great favorite here in the court, and pretty well liked, I believe, all around the circuit.
- 28:49The guy is using a nice quick-breaking serve, and slips up and over for a caused strike.
- 28:56One strike on bridges, one man out, nobody on.
- 29:01Tom started to swing at that one, but I believe on fire, turning quickly,
- 29:06will rule every quarter swing in time, and keep some big charge for the strike.
- 29:12That is the ruling, it's a ball offside.
- 29:15He's going to go for it, figuring out the serve coming in, he's got it for the fast ball,
- 29:20and there's the caused strike.
- 29:22He came right over that offside corner, and the count is two strikes and one ball.
- 29:27The strike's working very nicely.
- 29:31Two and one. The arm goes up in the motion, bridges hit him, the founder,
- 29:35the second base, Bill Herman comes in fast, and throws the runner out of first,
- 29:40and the first avarader cooperating there by making a sitting catch of a rather wild shot by Herman.
- 29:47Bill had no chance to straighten up the aim, that one, had to throw from the ground,
- 29:53and there are three, five years out, nobody on, and three systems up, looking through his friendship.
- 30:03Four, one, nothing, and serve of the time. A three-ing strike, strikes his right pass,
- 30:10and has a nice, quick and curve.
- 30:13He sees through the local batters, one strike on 50, the arm goes up for the next kick,
- 30:20and three, fouls out in the middle of the dirt, and against some fire-striking,
- 30:24he's right foot for the second strike.
- 30:29Two strikes, and nothing. He went out and nobody on.
- 30:35There's the motion, there's the pitch, sits and waving it when it was outside for the third strike,
- 30:41and thanks to that notice of the father, he was carrying the tag with the mortar and mortar,
- 30:45and he's no run, no roof, no error.
- 30:49He's the personal charge of Owen and Shristen to refire them one strike,
- 30:53and charge bridges to hit the slow bound of the Billy Herman at second,
- 30:58so that's the end of the second inning of play.
- 31:01He's won nothing in favor of the strike. The Tigers have made three hits,
- 31:05and the Cubs run and take it away a half-button.
- 31:09Within a few days after the World Series, the new forward for 1935 will be introduced,
- 31:15and will be on display at Ford Village everywhere.
- 31:20The old football team settled down during the real game in the second inning of this small game.
- 31:25They broke the ice in their first hit in the second, the first half of the second one,
- 31:29with two outs. Tabaretta hit one down the first baseline,
- 31:33and it was a little bit two-and-a-half for Owen to get to, and he went on to second base
- 31:37in five-and-a-half. However, that was an easy out on the boundary game.
- 31:41They went in and he sub-ged their first hit, but no run.
- 31:45He went out and ordered a very hot two of the two men striking out,
- 31:50and Tabaretta making a good throw, and Newman's rather facing and wide-stall
- 31:55to get Bridges in the three-and-two strikeout.
- 31:58And so the story is won and up in favor of the strike,
- 32:01four wins of the third inning, up to the start, and some in the top.
- 32:04And they have Billy Bridges, seven-churched top-up, carrying a batting out,
- 32:07with the three-and-a-half, he's so far in the five-game play.
- 32:10Back to the right-handed, Bridges looking over, starts his wind-up motion,
- 32:14and he's a fast ball missing the outside corner, ball one.
- 32:21And he's a little bunny-fifty hand again, and he starts his wind-up motion,
- 32:26and here's a fast one outside, little high also, ball two.
- 32:30Two-and-a-half.
- 32:34Two-and-a-half going for it, and both men will throw it into the play.
- 32:38There's the motion, back when he cuts the corner, and a call and strike, fell five.
- 32:44Two balls, and one strike, Bridges leading off in the third.
- 32:50Only goes in the motion, and there's a hit, a wide single.
- 32:54Over-second in the center field by Jim Bridges,
- 32:58sub-first, stopped the second, and it's far-no-witch,
- 33:03And he hits that little swing.
- 33:05No chance for anyone to get in front of that one.
- 33:09He brings up a very strange perspective.
- 33:12Well, as we saw in the intercom, he throws him left-handed and back-handed.
- 33:21Running on the swing, he goes all the way around.
- 33:24You see, he wants to cut the swing forward, sacrifice.
- 33:27So, hitting it out, it's a sacrifice, evidently because Prince is starting up,
- 33:33trying to punch that one, he hits it, and it's strike one.
- 33:40One strike on Prince, throws his arm first, nobody else turned in,
- 33:45and he's getting wound in the neck.
- 33:48He lays that one down, how?
- 33:53Strike two, he has to lay four, arms wide, kidney.
- 33:58That's not going to be standing about halfway out in front of the plate there with this boundary.
- 34:04Although it looks from here, it's a hidden power territory, that's not the very least called.
- 34:10That's two strikes, arms, two married things, two and nothing.
- 34:17Nobody else does his arms first.
- 34:19The pigeon is ready, and Prince took one with that outside ball run.
- 34:28You see whether he goes through the three-thirds punch or through the next one.
- 34:34He's got a two-strike and nothing, two-strike and one ball, right?
- 34:38Prince is going to follow the lead in the best, and the count is understanding through the one.
- 34:50The pigeon has a new ball, he's running, trying off of the pigeon,
- 34:56gets up on the low and places the ball there again in the 50 positions,
- 35:00and Prince is getting him on a high fast and one ran out.
- 35:07And Argy's the lander's up.
- 35:11Argy's the boy that gets the right ball through the box,
- 35:14first time he's got the pigeon,
- 35:16part of the big black is the Rogel, going out of first.
- 35:22That's one, being unable to collect the ball,
- 35:25he's going through for the base,
- 35:27Argy's back from left-handed,
- 35:29puts the first, takes the ball, strikes over that outside corner.
- 35:35One ran down, one ran on.
- 35:38Prince is taking a bit of a lead,
- 35:41goes across the plate,
- 35:43the pigeon's getting too far away from the little fat.
- 35:48Prince is getting the ball from low and again,
- 35:51gets up on the hill, looking him over,
- 35:53he's ready to pitch, there it comes.
- 35:55The pass is not fast, the ball runs.
- 36:00That makes the count one and one.
- 36:04One out, one out.
- 36:07A lot of openings.
- 36:09Prince is ready to pitch with time inside.
- 36:13One of the second balls, the back ball.
- 36:16Two balls, one strike.
- 36:21Two and one.
- 36:25The pigeon throws the rubber,
- 36:26it comes to pitch and it's firing inside for the third ball.
- 36:30Now he's in a bit of a hold behind the batter with the catch,
- 36:34one on, third to the other half.
- 36:38Prince comes up out of the start,
- 36:41he's found that the ball strike has fast ball,
- 36:44right through the middle,
- 36:46and the count is three and two.
- 36:49Argy playing the string up,
- 36:52three and two.
- 36:55Now he gave him his Sunday pitch that time, a 25th ball.
- 37:00Breaking for second,
- 37:01Jurgers comes on to pitch,
- 37:03as Golan Jones, the carrier,
- 37:07hold over Charlie Hens,
- 37:09out in the short right hand,
- 37:11and it's sort of basically sending Jurgers for third.
- 37:19They face it for Golan,
- 37:23then third.
- 37:25Now we get well up toward first base.
- 37:28Jeringer managed to get his left hand in front of it,
- 37:31could not stop it,
- 37:33and it's quarter to the end.
- 37:34Runner's on third and first, one out,
- 37:36Billy Herman is up,
- 37:37and the first pitch to call strikes.
- 37:39The problems are in the well spot here to try to score.
- 37:46If Herman can get one safely,
- 37:48or even a long drive.
- 37:52Now inside, and the count is one and one.
- 37:56Herman bats in right hand.
- 37:59Figer in field, playing back,
- 38:02paying no attention to the runner on third,
- 38:05playing back for a possible double play.
- 38:10It's one man out, and third and first occupied.
- 38:13The count is one and one on Herman.
- 38:15Bridget is ready, puts it around, here's the pitch.
- 38:19Herman land, they get over,
- 38:22Geringer's head in the right,
- 38:24here comes Jurgers home to the tying run,
- 38:27and Golan is up at third.
- 38:30On a 12-goal from Seat Rock,
- 38:33here's Seat Rock.
- 38:37Seat Old by Billy Herman,
- 38:40driving Jurgers home to the tying run.
- 38:43Golan out at third,
- 38:46two, Christian.
- 38:56Cut the line is up, two went out,
- 38:59and we've started a ball game, boys and girls,
- 39:01all tied here, all squared.
- 39:04In the third inning.
- 39:09Three hits, have a count of two one runs,
- 39:12Tigers made three hits to get their one run.
- 39:18Get to now four and three,
- 39:21and the first pitch to find is a line drive over Fox,
- 39:24and he's going back to the scoreboard,
- 39:26makes the cut just before it's cracking into the scoreboard
- 39:30in deep right field.
- 39:33Ryan was really against that one,
- 39:37and he'd been able to lift it a little more,
- 39:40but it was a line drive to Fox in deep right field,
- 39:44Fox taking it while up on his toes,
- 39:47just before cracking into the scoreboard.
- 39:49One run, three hits, no errors,
- 39:55and it's all squared.
- 39:57One run with two and one half innings played,
- 40:00Tigers coming to back in the third.
- 40:04Gurgers open the inning with a single,
- 40:07French after trying to sacrifice unsuccessfully,
- 40:11truck out swinging.
- 40:13Gillan single fast garringer,
- 40:16sending Gurgers to third.
- 40:18Herman lined a single over Gurgers head into right,
- 40:21scoring Gurgers with a tying run,
- 40:23but Gillan was thrown out trying to take third
- 40:26on Fox, good thoughts, good questions.
- 40:29Line into the inning,
- 40:31lining to Fox on the first pitch.
- 40:34Mickey Stocklin is first up for the Tigers in the third,
- 40:37and the first pitch is a called strike on Mike,
- 40:40that's 20-1 over Celtic, through the middle,
- 40:47and the next one, Stocklin fouled
- 40:50in the stand for the second strike.
- 40:53Gugan hit a ball,
- 40:55Thomas threw another on Mike,
- 40:57there's a wind-up,
- 40:59and it's lower over the place with the low ball run.
- 41:03Two strikes and one ball.
- 41:06Side score-out, one-on-one, third inning.
- 41:12There's a motion, there's a pitch,
- 41:14third outside, ball-toothed.
- 41:19Two balls and two strikes.
- 41:23Frank gets to find some partners,
- 41:25ready to go now, there's the wind-up motion.
- 41:28Coming in, iron inside,
- 41:30and the ball is directing Mike off.
- 41:33He drops to the ground,
- 41:34keeps him being good on the third with that one,
- 41:39and the count is now three and two.
- 41:42There's a wind-up motion, here's the pitch.
- 41:44Stocklin driving a foul,
- 41:46out left field way,
- 41:47Gellan is going forth,
- 41:49going back and forth,
- 41:51he's got the ball left to the ground
- 41:53and bounds into a field box.
- 41:56And the count's just three and two.
- 41:58The ball's coming into play,
- 42:00passed off by Umpire Stugley to Hartnett,
- 42:03who in turn passed it off to Phil Cavalletta,
- 42:06who attended the Billy Herman.
- 42:09Now handing it to Larry Frank while the Augie Gellan,
- 42:13the left field is,
- 42:14Bill Gerges, who shortstop and Stanley Hack,
- 42:16third base and finally gets back to their positions
- 42:19after their long cross-country run.
- 42:22Frank is ready, here's the pitch.
- 42:24Stocklin downing to Cavalletta,
- 42:26and the right field passes to Frank for the put-out.
- 42:29One out.
- 42:35And Stocklin going out.
- 42:39Gerges also single in the first inning.
- 42:46Nobody armed, one man out in the third.
- 42:48Short side, one run.
- 42:52Frank is ready, Stocklin wind-up,
- 42:54and the pitch on the inside corner of the fast ball
- 42:57for Paul Stryker.
- 43:03Larry gets the sign, doesn't waste much time,
- 43:06crosses, comes handle motions,
- 43:08and it's a Paul Stryker also.
- 43:11Better hide, good, than that inside corner.
- 43:15Makes the count two strikes on Gerges.
- 43:18Two and nothing.
- 43:21Frank is sticking with good control.
- 43:24He wants to serve way outside that time.
- 43:27Small one,
- 43:28which would be expected,
- 43:29he wouldn't play a good one in there.
- 43:32With a count two strikes in one ball.
- 43:35The iron goes up for the next foot.
- 43:38Gerges got one in the short,
- 43:40and that's Bill Gerges,
- 43:41the line is coming fast for it.
- 43:43He's got the ball wrapped to the ground,
- 43:45got the on it,
- 43:46and Gerges is safe,
- 43:48fast seconds on what will probably be scored a two-way hit.
- 43:55Flying short left field,
- 43:56into two-way hit for Gerges.
- 43:59Gerges is getting fast for it,
- 44:00couldn't get up to it,
- 44:02and the ball got dead in his feet.
- 44:05Charlie leg it around first,
- 44:07and he's in the deep of the second.
- 44:10But we have Gerges on second,
- 44:12one line off,
- 44:13and two stars in the box to Bill Gerges.
- 44:16The first time it's that,
- 44:18now up.
- 44:20Garzen goes back in a long foul,
- 44:23hot into the stands in right field,
- 44:26strike one.
- 44:28He's pulling back in too much,
- 44:31and it's very low into the stands.
- 44:33The wind is blowing toward the right field,
- 44:36reaching from the avenue,
- 44:39bounds the ball park out that way.
- 44:42So within the course of this game,
- 44:45any of us mention of all being hit into Thumble Avenue,
- 44:48that means it's over the right field wall.
- 44:51Playing strike two,
- 44:53going for a fix to two,
- 44:55over the outside corner and low.
- 44:58And the count on the boot is two and nothing.
- 45:05Getting there on second,
- 45:06one line out in the finish,
- 45:08it's four-tied at one run.
- 45:09Fenton's ready,
- 45:10he's a fix,
- 45:12way outside, ball one.
- 45:15He popped out of Gabby's glove,
- 45:17no damage was done, however,
- 45:19as Gerges playing his face
- 45:22at second base.
- 45:24And the Harkins have a habit of throwing
- 45:26very well at the bases.
- 45:29And the boys respect that arm.
- 45:34And the two strikes in one ball
- 45:36on Leon the Booth Garzen.
- 45:39He has Gerges back on second,
- 45:42back as a ball,
- 45:44Gerges is back to second,
- 45:46Gerges is back to third,
- 45:48and Boston is on the right side.
- 45:51And is out.
- 45:56Gerges returns to second,
- 45:58safely.
- 46:00Garglin had already gone down to second,
- 46:03and Huckleback to third,
- 46:05but was thrown off with
- 46:08Bill Caval through the backs,
- 46:11through Cabaretta.
- 46:15Back case got a clear back to second,
- 46:18without crossing the ball to anyone else.
- 46:20And when they found two men at one base,
- 46:24Gerges is the one on title foot,
- 46:26Garglin had to break back for third,
- 46:29and French chased him a little more,
- 46:32then finally shot to Cabaretta for the put-out.
- 46:34Two men off,
- 46:36Gerger on second,
- 46:38each box who drove in the winnings of the first run,
- 46:41is the batter.
- 46:44And the first pitch is high and outside,
- 46:47ball one.
- 46:55Two men away, Gerger taking a lead off second.
- 46:59French is ready, here's the pitch.
- 47:01Box goes back on the left field,
- 47:03Argyllian setting his arms to wave,
- 47:06Frank Cameron away, makes the catch,
- 47:08ending the third inning.
- 47:12No run, one hit,
- 47:15no error,
- 47:17and the score at the end of three,
- 47:19it means the play,
- 47:21with all square at one run.
- 47:23Come on in and help out.
- 47:25Well, that third inning began to put up three,
- 47:27rather hysterical.
- 47:29There are these two teams out here today,
- 47:31the first world championship in the cup,
- 47:33leading the game to stay in the run.
- 47:36Some sides are scoring the third innings,
- 47:38when Gerger's open with a single,
- 47:40French side is back five-fail,
- 47:42it's struck out, but the land side,
- 47:44the single off, going his glove in the right field,
- 47:46putting Gerger on third.
- 47:48Cameron's single to right-centers,
- 47:50scoring Gerger to the tying run,
- 47:52the land side's the third,
- 47:54and we're in safe lead, both of us are rather
- 47:56both of us are for a moment because
- 47:58the third baseman, Kristen,
- 48:00the umpire knows that he was in there anyway,
- 48:03and so that's the way it's done.
- 48:05And then Klein, Pickle the first one to right field corner,
- 48:08but five-fint back nicely to get it to the third out.
- 48:11That made it one run three hits and one left.
- 48:13The target half, they threatened again after
- 48:15Topping rounded out,
- 48:16bearing your left, effectively, double the left,
- 48:19but he was set back to safe,
- 48:21he was second safely on Goslin's trap,
- 48:23but Goslin was all trying to get back to first,
- 48:25and then Topped,
- 48:26played out for the third out.
- 48:28And then he scored, still a tie, one and one,
- 48:30going into the fourth, and he's up to pass,
- 48:32and here we go.
- 48:33And Gabby Hightman is up.
- 48:35Bridges is ready to first pitch to Gabby as a called strike.
- 48:38Tommy Fandin the first time up,
- 48:41and lay back on right through belt high for a called strike.
- 48:46Bridges starts his line up again,
- 48:48it comes to pick.
- 48:50It's a fast ball over the outside corner
- 48:52for the second called strike.
- 48:54Two and nothing.
- 48:56He's stepping out of the batter's box and looking at the plate.
- 48:59Now he's back in again,
- 49:01counts two and nothing.
- 49:02Tommy starts his line up motion.
- 49:04He hits back and turning right through the box
- 49:06and over second, or a single in the center field.
- 49:12Tommy tries to shoot that third strike over
- 49:14after having them two and nothing.
- 49:16Gabby was much to be enthused,
- 49:18and hit that one right through the box
- 49:20and over second, or a single.
- 49:22He was forced to pitch rather off Bridges so far
- 49:26while the Tigers made four off French.
- 49:29Hight family is up.
- 49:31Hight slide through two box in right field the first time up.
- 49:35With the right hand batter.
- 49:37They're swinging strike one.
- 49:40Run around first and nobody out,
- 49:42go outside at one run.
- 49:44It's a battle.
- 49:51Tommy rubs the shine off a new ball,
- 49:54gets up on the hill again,
- 49:56switches the post away from the pitching rubbers,
- 49:59looks around to see that
- 50:02parking isn't too far off the bag.
- 50:04He's ready to pitch.
- 50:06With a low ball, one, and the count is one and one.
- 50:15One and one.
- 50:17On the ready, a slow bounder's funnel along the third baseline
- 50:22for the second strike,
- 50:24making the count two strikes in one ball.
- 50:32Hight is coming back from down around second base
- 50:34where he's gone on that,
- 50:37when he heard the bat,
- 50:39crash into the ball.
- 50:43Tommy's back at first looking at Tommy.
- 50:45Tommy's looking over at him.
- 50:47He's on the rubber now ready to pitch.
- 50:49Here it comes.
- 50:51Another funnel along third baseline,
- 50:54going on over to the flagger's dugout.
- 50:59They're just picking it in close to his hands
- 51:01and he's popping the pitch.
- 51:04Two strikes and one ball.
- 51:07Nobody out.
- 51:09Hight put on first and the batter is cranked.
- 51:11One center field.
- 51:16Bridges throws the rubber and here's the pitch.
- 51:20Fire inside, cranking, leaning away from that baton.
- 51:25Good idea.
- 51:28Now two strikes into the ball.
- 51:32Two and two.
- 51:38Hight three calls. Bridges cutting the outside corner
- 51:41with a leather nice pitch.
- 51:44One out, partner on first,
- 51:47and still, cover that, I heard that.
- 51:50He helped himself to a third hit of the series.
- 51:54The first time a bat today.
- 51:56When he slapped one down first baseline,
- 51:59it's all in the way of batters.
- 52:01It went fast and then fought the fumbles,
- 52:03giving him an extra base.
- 52:07The left hand batter is swinging strike one.
- 52:12Still put 20 cut at that one.
- 52:15He went around.
- 52:18Like the horse with the lavender eyes on the marigold.
- 52:21Bridges is on the rubber again.
- 52:24Looking for the batter over, here's the pitch.
- 52:26Cover out of popping in the air, down there, second base.
- 52:29Fire two silly rogues standing right at the bag to make the catch.
- 52:38Two men out and Stanley hackers up.
- 52:41Hacks rounded the garrison to end with a second inning.
- 52:47Partner is still on first.
- 52:53Hacker's a left hand batter also.
- 52:57Bridges blows on the sticking hand.
- 53:01Wax the fingers a bit.
- 53:03Now he's facing the batter and the first pitch is followed back into the dirt strike one.
- 53:10One strike on Hacks.
- 53:14Stanley takes his rub off and rubs up his new ball with both bare hands.
- 53:20Lance is over to Hatchett.
- 53:22He has a bit of a reed on and is not holding very close to the bag now.
- 53:27He's playing rather deep for left hand batter.
- 53:30Strike two calls.
- 53:32Bridges showed a very close third that time.
- 53:35But was considerably more than a nickel.
- 53:38And the count is two strikes.
- 53:43The gun sound blows on the sticking hand.
- 53:46Looks in, gets a sign from Hatchett.
- 53:48Mike comes up out of the cross.
- 53:50It's a foul ball coming up here to make him in.
- 53:53No, it's just too hard.
- 53:55It's probably just a little above it.
- 53:58The count remains two strikes and nothing.
- 54:01And Bridges has to go to work with another new ball.
- 54:09Two and nothing.
- 54:11Two men out.
- 54:13He's fighting it on first.
- 54:15Bridges shows the number.
- 54:17He's in second position.
- 54:19They smash on the ground to Gehringer, right at him.
- 54:22And the throw is on its way.
- 54:24Hatchett is tied at first.
- 54:26Gehringer two-oh-one, second to first.
- 54:32No run.
- 54:34One hit.
- 54:36No error.
- 54:37Hatchett opened the inning with a clean single to center field.
- 54:40Languished on first while Demmeri struck out.
- 54:43Davoretta popped to Rogel and Hatch grounded to Gehringer.
- 54:48Hatchett is tied at one run.
- 54:50We're three and one half in each play.
- 54:52And the Tigers come to bat on the fourth with few walkers,
- 54:55Willie Rogel and Marvano on the first three hitters.
- 54:58But before they get up there, we follow fourth station identification.
- 55:02WMA Q, the Chicago Daily News Station.
- 55:19This ballgame is fighting even all the way around.
- 55:24It's not to have been at bat in four innings
- 55:28and have five hits in one run while the Tigers
- 55:30have only three innings and have four hits.
- 55:33And as they're evening, Hatch offers things on the first six
- 55:37into right field, hitting it on the down,
- 55:39between Herman and Davoretta.
- 55:42That evening, it's being received in an intentional pass
- 55:47the first time it's bats.
- 55:49Rogel is up, still into the first inning
- 55:54by fourth and Gehringer at the plate,
- 55:56the three went on and two went out.
- 56:01Thanks, safety check.
- 56:04And the first pitch to Rogel is a hit.
- 56:06It's a left field on the ground between burgers and Hatch.
- 56:11Shortstop on third base.
- 56:14Walker on second, Rogel on first.
- 56:17Both boys hitting the first pitch.
- 56:21Incidentally, Rogel is batting right handed
- 56:23of course against the left-hand offerings of Larry Prince.
- 56:28He's a quick-hitter, but would rather bat left-handed.
- 56:34The club's bat boy is on his way out to the runway
- 56:39between the left field for William and the fans
- 56:42to order a sub-pick to the warm-up.
- 56:44Marvin on is up, no hits so far.
- 56:47A hard point for third, planting Rogel a second on Hatch.
- 56:54Good throw to Bill Gehringer, the shortstop.
- 56:59Stanley played that ball perfectly.
- 57:02Coming in fast to take this point from Owen.
- 57:07Took a quick glance.
- 57:09Thorlady had a glance for Rogel a second
- 57:11and made the play perfect.
- 57:14One out, Walker on third, Owen on first.
- 57:20Man, break it is up.
- 57:34Tommy is up, very grounded.
- 57:36The second base, the first time a bat, low roller.
- 57:39A strike on a low breaking curve on the inside corner.
- 57:44French had 20 on that.
- 57:52The stage is set for a double play.
- 57:57The second base, first and third being knocked aside
- 57:59and one down, a bat for a way outside.
- 58:03And the counter is one-on-one.
- 58:08One-on-one on Bridges, Walker on third, one man out.
- 58:12French is ready, here's the pitch.
- 58:14Another pitch out, a strike, all two.
- 58:18Two and one is the count, two balls and one strike.
- 58:27French gets the sign from Hodges, break it up,
- 58:30takes his stretch, he's ready to go.
- 58:33Here's the pitch.
- 58:35Hodges hit one on the ground, it looks like a double play ball.
- 58:38Third, second, two points, but by French running,
- 58:43Bridges, deep, Herman, relay the camera at it
- 58:46and the space on a field is short.
- 58:49Owen is fourth for second, backs to Herman,
- 58:54Walker scoring, and with French running,
- 58:57Bridges, deep, Herman, relay the camera at it
- 59:00and is on first on the field is short.
- 59:03Only one man out, Owen fourth for second,
- 59:07Bird to second, backs to Herman.
- 59:15Two men gone, Bridges on first,
- 59:18Griffin is up.
- 59:19The pitch is low and outside, it were right-hand batters.
- 59:22Ball one.
- 59:31Gray, the ball goes up in the motion,
- 59:33Griffin rounding to shortstop an easy chance
- 59:36to build Gurgis and pick it up and pass to Billy Harmon
- 59:40to the fourth Bridges for the third out.
- 59:43Gide retired on fourth out.
- 59:48One run, two hits, no errors.
- 1:00:00The Tigers are leading at the end of the fourth,
- 1:00:02two to one.
- 1:00:04Come on in Hal Sutton.
- 1:00:06This brought down the World Series,
- 1:00:08comes to you with the compliments of the Ford Motor Company
- 1:00:11and the Ford Dealers of America.
- 1:00:14Well, before bidding, saw the company
- 1:00:16make the round of field with the other two,
- 1:00:18Martin had opened with a single end,
- 1:00:20he was still on first base when the next three men were out.
- 1:00:23In the destroyed half, however,
- 1:00:25the Tigers again went into believe by one run.
- 1:00:28Walker opened with a single to right
- 1:00:30and Rogel also leading the first pitch single to left.
- 1:00:33Onside to Bunt, but Axe made a daring and perfect play
- 1:00:36before it was pulling a second.
- 1:00:39However, Walker went to third.
- 1:00:41And then on Bridges' boundary, it looked for just a second
- 1:00:44until they were going to get a double play,
- 1:00:46but the ball was in slowly and while the play was made perfectly,
- 1:00:49Bridges huddled hard and got the third base,
- 1:00:51allowing Walker to score to give the Tigers their two to one lead,
- 1:00:54which they now hold at the end of the fourth inning.
- 1:00:57We're going into the fifth and here we go.
- 1:00:59All right, here we are with Bill Gerges up.
- 1:01:02Oh, and Bunt's points go down a second base.
- 1:01:05Now, right.
- 1:01:07Billy Gerges is up, he's had one hit and has scored the one
- 1:01:10sub run so far.
- 1:01:12He looks at the first pitch which is rolling outside,
- 1:01:14ball one.
- 1:01:20One ball is a count,
- 1:01:22Gerges the batter leading off in the fifth inning.
- 1:01:25He hits that one 20 high in the right field.
- 1:01:28Fox is waiting for it out there,
- 1:01:30keeping his eyes from the sun when it's over, he has it.
- 1:01:34One out.
- 1:01:37And Bunt branches up.
- 1:01:40Larry's fans the first time a staff after trying
- 1:01:43to fight unsuccessfully to Bunt.
- 1:01:46He's with Bunt, Gerges around.
- 1:01:49One man gone.
- 1:01:52Larry is trying both ends of the bat on the plate
- 1:01:55to see that his college would be got up there.
- 1:01:58Gerges starts his wind up and the first pitch
- 1:02:01is a curved ball over that outside corner for a small strike.
- 1:02:06Ball came up there and then stuck right over the corner.
- 1:02:11Tom goes into motion again, coming in,
- 1:02:14fast ball outside, ball, Bunt.
- 1:02:17The count is one and one, one out, nobody on.
- 1:02:27There's a wind up motion, here's the pitch.
- 1:02:30And it looks like a hit, it is a hit out in the right field
- 1:02:33on the ground between Gerger and Hohen
- 1:02:36for a single or Larry French.
- 1:02:42The sixth.
- 1:02:44The job hits and that makes the hit all even again.
- 1:02:48Fix the piece.
- 1:02:50Looks quite a ball game, boys and girls, don't think it is.
- 1:02:53Runner on first, one man out,
- 1:02:56and Argie Galan with one hit and two times the bat is up.
- 1:03:01Hits him from the left side and the pitch is low
- 1:03:04and inside to the left hand batter.
- 1:03:08Ball one.
- 1:03:10Arminard di Getti satisfied with what Mike is calling for in the pitch.
- 1:03:13And here it is, it's a fast inside ball, ball two.
- 1:03:17Galan dropping to the dirt.
- 1:03:20He keeps him taking one in the rip.
- 1:03:23And the count is two and nothing.
- 1:03:29There's a stretch,
- 1:03:31lifting from the shoulder with a runner on base.
- 1:03:34Right ball, he got the inside corner with a knee-high pitch,
- 1:03:37that time, although Argie does not believe the pitch
- 1:03:40was where the umpire quickly thought.
- 1:03:45And of course he's giving the umpire a bit of a argument
- 1:03:49while LaCrosse does a little planting.
- 1:03:55The count is entitled to, after saying this,
- 1:03:57Mr. George Alvin,
- 1:03:59foul strike back against the net.
- 1:04:02But the real cut-off happens
- 1:04:04and the count is two and two.
- 1:04:07The umpire quickly cuts off the plate
- 1:04:12and it is populous.
- 1:04:15Two and two.
- 1:04:17One man out, French on first
- 1:04:20and 20 galan is the batter.
- 1:04:22Bridges is ready, here's the pitch.
- 1:04:24He's fouled one off the end of his bat,
- 1:04:27going over to the Tiger dugout.
- 1:04:29Managers, Dolly Grimm, coaching a third watch to throw over.
- 1:04:37Held an author receiving it.
- 1:04:40Parting it out to umpire Moriarty, who examined it.
- 1:04:43He found the ball was a little bit lock-sided,
- 1:04:46having connected with the end of the galan's bat.
- 1:04:49The count is two and two and Bridges picking a new ball.
- 1:04:52This is a foul-and-third strike.
- 1:04:55Markman dropping it.
- 1:04:57Ball was right through the middle.
- 1:04:59Even Mike was surprised, it was so straight.
- 1:05:04Two men out.
- 1:05:08French on first and Billy Herman
- 1:05:10was one hit and two times a batter's up.
- 1:05:17Bill is the right-hand batter
- 1:05:21and stays far away from the plate
- 1:05:23and deep in the batter's box
- 1:05:25to get past to the curved plate.
- 1:05:27That one was not a curve, but a high hard one inside.
- 1:05:31Ball one.
- 1:05:37Two men out to run around first.
- 1:05:39Ball one is a count. Bridges ready
- 1:05:41and a slow third, a little high.
- 1:05:43Ball two. Two and nothing.
- 1:05:48Tommy blows on the new hand
- 1:05:51so he can get a better grip on the apple.
- 1:05:56Steps up on the rubber again.
- 1:05:59Has the fans and passes.
- 1:06:01Mike is holding up the big miss for the target.
- 1:06:03Here's the pitch.
- 1:06:05Another high pass from Ball three
- 1:06:07and if you had a batter three and nothing.
- 1:06:10One man out.
- 1:06:12French on first.
- 1:06:14Two men out rather than French on first.
- 1:06:21Sight's small.
- 1:06:22That came back when there was nothing on it.
- 1:06:25It came right through letter Y.
- 1:06:28Now there's now three balls and one strike.
- 1:06:31And Bridges is ready to deliver the next six.
- 1:06:34There's a drive that's going out in the left here,
- 1:06:37going way out.
- 1:06:38It's in the bleachers over the screen
- 1:06:40and for a home run, putting the cups in the lead
- 1:06:43as French got home ahead of Billy Herman.
- 1:06:49That makes his score three-two in favor of the cups.
- 1:06:54He will lead against that fast ball
- 1:06:56with a count three and one
- 1:06:58and it was a line drive over the screen
- 1:07:01which is twenty feet high
- 1:07:03in front of the bleachers in left field.
- 1:07:05Put in the bleachers, three hundred feet from the plate.
- 1:07:09The ball was well tagged, my friends, well tagged.
- 1:07:18Faces are empty now.
- 1:07:20The line is up.
- 1:07:22The score is three-two in favor of the cup
- 1:07:25and the first pitch, a called strike on the scouts.
- 1:07:30The scouts follow the next in the flow curve
- 1:07:32over the long first baseline
- 1:07:34and the offices in Blueton and just that one.
- 1:07:40The count is two and nothing.
- 1:07:44Two and nothing, two down and one on.
- 1:07:53Bridges looked around, got his wind up motion.
- 1:07:56Here's the pitch, trying to find another one
- 1:07:59over the same way.
- 1:08:01Inclusive, the attic block holder
- 1:08:06reaching out for that one, we could not do that.
- 1:08:12Count is two strikes, two and nothing.
- 1:08:18Coming back to wind up, here it is.
- 1:08:21Well, it's in the judgment front of the plate.
- 1:08:24Two strikes and one ball.
- 1:08:35The count is two strikes and one ball
- 1:08:37and there's a basic for playing a line single
- 1:08:40into right center field on the ground
- 1:08:42down near second base, two far down for Gairner.
- 1:08:47Walker throws the ball in and flying as on foot.
- 1:08:51With two men out, Gabby Hartman
- 1:08:55with one hit and two times of batters up.

- 1:09:20Big, powerful right hand batter.
- 1:09:23Trying taking the lead off first, here's the pitch.
- 1:09:26It's through the middle for a call strike.
- 1:09:33One strike on Hartman.
- 1:09:36Bridget throws the rubber, takes his pitch.

- 1:11:52French gets a new ball.
- 1:11:54He's ready to fit.
- 1:11:56And did fit the beautiful third right over the heart
- 1:11:58of the plate knee high.
- 1:12:00Making the count two strikes and one ball.
- 1:12:04Larry is deceiving the boys with that curve.
- 1:12:09That ball to the middle for a foul strike.
- 1:12:12Mixes them up.
- 1:12:14A foul, a hook, and a fast one.
- 1:12:19And Cochrane is thrown out on strike.
- 1:12:21One out and carrying her up.
- 1:12:25Daly has had a single and double and two times a spatch.
- 1:12:30Grounder to Herman.
- 1:12:32He's coming forward.
- 1:12:33He has it.
- 1:12:34Throwers on its way and getting her as out of the third.
- 1:12:36Herman to Cabaretta.
- 1:12:38Second to first.
- 1:12:40Two down.
- 1:12:42None on.
- 1:12:43And Tarzan up.
- 1:12:46Tarzan hitler from the two times he's been up.
- 1:12:56French is ready.
- 1:12:57Tarzan wind up motion.
- 1:12:59And the first pitch is a slow curve.
- 1:13:01Just breaking outside.
- 1:13:03Ball one.
- 1:13:10Tarzan mark one right in front of the plate.
- 1:13:13Daly Hartnett is walking out to make the catch.
- 1:13:16Ending the fifth inning.
- 1:13:18No runs.
- 1:13:19No hits.
- 1:13:20No error.
- 1:13:21The Tigers being retired in order.
- 1:13:23And taking away Hal's pocket.
- 1:13:26Well, at the end of the fifth inning, we'll find the
- 1:13:28the Colville Cubs ahead for the first time in the ball game.
- 1:13:31And French with a one run needs to work on.
- 1:13:33In the first half of the fifth, you're just hoping with a long drive to right.
- 1:13:38And then the French.
- 1:13:40The first one passed, giving it a right field for a single.
- 1:13:43The man walks the third strike close pass.
- 1:13:45But German, Billy Herman, Harvard one, pretty well up into the left field
- 1:13:49for a home run scoring French ahead of him.
- 1:13:53The line then followed with a line single to right center,
- 1:13:55but he was still on first when Hartnett slide out on a high one for Garth.
- 1:13:59Made two runs, three hits, and one man left on base.
- 1:14:02The fifth inning, the last half of the fifth.
- 1:14:04Harcun was called out on strikes, pretty slight.
- 1:14:07During a rolled out to Billy Herman and Goslin,
- 1:14:10off to Gaby Hartnett in front of the plate for the third out.
- 1:14:14And it was no runs, no hits.
- 1:14:16The result is that the Cubs now lead the Tigers by a score of 3-2
- 1:14:20at the end of the fifth inning.
- 1:14:22The Cubs have made two hits, and the Tigers have made six so far.
- 1:14:28And nearly goes into the sixth inning.
- 1:14:31Maggie Dammerly is up.
- 1:14:33Right hand batter.
- 1:14:35No hits in two times as that.
- 1:14:37And the first hit to Bridges is outside, ball one.
- 1:14:44One ball of the count.
- 1:14:46Tommy's arm goes up for the next hit.
- 1:14:49And it's a ball strike, cutting the outside corner knee high.
- 1:14:54One and one.
- 1:14:59One and one on Femmery.
- 1:15:04Femmery is knocking the third out of his sweep.
- 1:15:07As he says a few words to his on fire quickly,
- 1:15:11now he steps back into the batter's box.
- 1:15:14Bridges is ready to go.
- 1:15:15There's a motion.
- 1:15:16And the pitch is hit on the ground.
- 1:15:19A short stop, Rogel coming up with a ball and throwing off from the court.
- 1:15:27One out.
- 1:15:29Nobody on.
- 1:15:31And the ball is up. One hit in two times as that.
- 1:15:38Four through two in favor of the Cubs.
- 1:15:42Opening of the sixth inning.
- 1:15:44There's a wind-up motion.
- 1:15:46And Phil looked at one that broke low inside for a ball.
- 1:15:53One ball of the count. Bridges punches his shoulders.
- 1:15:56Make the deep breath.
- 1:15:57Starts his wind-up.
- 1:16:00Two another low-breaking curve. Two and nothing.
- 1:16:08One man off, nobody on.
- 1:16:11There's a motion.
- 1:16:12And the pitch is through the middle of called strike.
- 1:16:15Bridges using the fast ball that time.
- 1:16:18After failing to get Savareta to go for two serves, it broke low.
- 1:16:22Fits the fast one right through the middle belt high.
- 1:16:26Not fair in the fans. A ball of strike two.
- 1:16:31That's it on the coping above our heads.
- 1:16:35We haven't had a typewriter nor a telegraph machine wreck so far in the series.
- 1:16:41We do much better than that in the regular season.
- 1:16:44The count is two and two.
- 1:16:48There's a wind-up with this nice new white ball and it's bowed into the dirt.
- 1:16:52The left of the plate. Still hitting it on the end of his bat.
- 1:16:57And the umpire quickly is going to take a look at it.
- 1:17:02That's approaching Bridges a new one.
- 1:17:04See if this ball is damaged.
- 1:17:06Evidently it's not because the ball boy has been allowed to put it in the little cellar down here.
- 1:17:11And the count is two and two.
- 1:17:13Tommy starts his wind-up with this nice new white ball.
- 1:17:16Savareta following a slow curve into the dirt.
- 1:17:20Stop that boy getting that room.
- 1:17:24Kneeling there with a little trigger batter.
- 1:17:26He's happy to be family packed.
- 1:17:30And the count remains unchanged. Two and two.
- 1:17:36There's a wind-up for the next six.
- 1:17:39Fast ball outside. Ball three. Ball two to five.
- 1:17:44Three and two.
- 1:17:46One man out. Nobody on.
- 1:17:51Bridges starts his wind-up. Here's the pitch.
- 1:17:54It's a slow ball and it's a grounder to Gehringer a second.
- 1:17:57The ball is on its way.
- 1:17:59Camarada out of first. Gehringer through on.
- 1:18:03Second to first.
- 1:18:05Two out.
- 1:18:08Family hack is up.
- 1:18:10Fan is grounded to Gehringer both times with that.
- 1:18:13Left hand batter.
- 1:18:15He's got them right down to Daly Valley.
- 1:18:20Here's the first pitch and it's a fast one outside.
- 1:18:23Ball one.
- 1:18:32And the motion starts for the next one.
- 1:18:35Ball two. High and outside.
- 1:18:39Two and nothing.
- 1:18:42Score. Three two in favor of the total.
- 1:18:47The count two and nothing.
- 1:18:49Glad the right is going safely out there for extra bases.
- 1:18:53Bounding against the scoreboard on the first pop.
- 1:18:56Box is throwing it in.
- 1:18:58And we have Hacks reposing the on second base of two-based knots into two-frikes views.
- 1:19:06It was most dense in the world for box to get in front of Atlas.
- 1:19:10When it's left here we knew it was going for a few hours, maybe three,
- 1:19:14depending entirely upon how the ball was bound from the scoreboard.
- 1:19:21Bound it perfectly for a box to make a quick play in the second base.
- 1:19:26But we now have Hacks on second. Two men out and Gehringer's is up.
- 1:19:30One hit and two times with that.
- 1:19:38He'll get one off the handle of Bounder over third base bag.
- 1:19:42Hacks is taking it.
- 1:19:44And Hacks is coming in the third.
- 1:19:51Hacks made a great duck.
- 1:19:53He's glad to get away from him.
- 1:19:55Get it out of the baseline.
- 1:19:57And umpire.
- 1:19:59Wally is explaining the tactics there. He did not need to tag him when he ran out of line.
- 1:20:08So it does not matter as far as the scoring is concerned,
- 1:20:14whether or not Sittlin tagged him, he was the man there the two men get to put out.
- 1:20:27No runs, one hit, no errors.
- 1:20:33The end of five and a half innings played the story three, two in favor of the Chicago Cup.
- 1:20:38And we pause for station identification.
- 1:20:42This is WMAQ, the Chicago Daily News Station.
- 1:20:54Going into the Tiger half of the sixth, Pete Fox would be the first batter for the strike,
- 1:21:00followed by Gene Walker, with Phil Rogel coming up.
- 1:21:10Frank is talking a few to Harkness. There's the long throw to second.
- 1:21:14The crowd is in very much of a huff-huff over that play at third.
- 1:21:22There's Phil Murmuring, cheering now for a Tiger hit, being a very local partisan crowd, of course.
- 1:21:33And the first pitch to Fox, they call strikes over the outside corner letter high.
- 1:21:40Fox, Sittlin in the short left field, Oggigaland has no trouble getting under it and now has it's quarter put out.
- 1:21:51And Walker is up.
- 1:21:54Walker walked the first time, single the second time.
- 1:22:02One man out, nobody on.
- 1:22:10Frank raises his arm for the pitch and it's way outside for the one.
- 1:22:22Larry gets the sign from Harkness. The arm goes up in the motion.
- 1:22:25Walker's top one, rolling it, foul along third baseline.
- 1:22:30Strike one.
- 1:22:34Another one on G. Known around these parts, there's the Mississippi Rebel.
- 1:22:44Frank gets ready to go. His arm is up in the motion.
- 1:22:47Walker, pot, applied in the center of the diamond.
- 1:22:51Bill Gerges is waving everyone else away and comes in right beside the pitcher's rubber to make the catch.
- 1:22:58Gerges, the club shortstop.
- 1:23:01Two outs, none on and Roe Gallagher.
- 1:23:14Two men down, nobody on.
- 1:23:18And the first pitch is driven in the left field.
- 1:23:21It's going close to the foul line. It's in the right hole.
- 1:23:25It's going down rule double.
- 1:23:29The ground rule double deep in the left field corner.
- 1:23:32Drops just inside the foul line and a fan reached out from one of the boxes there.
- 1:23:38Make a grab at it.
- 1:23:41The ground rule double deep in the left field corner for Roe Gallagher.
- 1:23:47Two men out and Marvin O'Han is up.
- 1:23:55Four, three, two in favor of it. Chicago club.
- 1:24:04Frank takes a bit of time.
- 1:24:07Flicks the dust off the pitcher's plate.
- 1:24:10Now he's up there in the hole, making a stretch.
- 1:24:14And the first pitch is a single.
- 1:24:16Roe Gallagher is swinging around to the third base, coming home to the flying run.
- 1:24:26Who has been the goal of the series, delivered his third pitch on the third pitch.
- 1:24:33A rain single to left field.
- 1:24:35The guy who threw Roe Gallagher home with a flying run.
- 1:24:40And the crowd here at Mavenfield is in pretty much of a frenzy.
- 1:24:50Two men are out and Bridges is the next batter.
- 1:24:58Jurgers talking to French out there, Billy Herman rather talking to French out on the pitcher's mound.
- 1:25:13Now Herman has gone back to his position at second base.
- 1:25:18The third pitch to Bridges is a swinging strike, going for one across the letter.
- 1:25:29One strike on Bridges.
- 1:25:33The arm goes up for the next pitch.
- 1:25:35Very left side, ball one.
- 1:25:39One and one.
- 1:25:47One and one is the count on Bridges.
- 1:25:49Two men out, all on first.
- 1:25:51Go outside a three run.
- 1:25:53Swinging strike two.
- 1:25:57Tommy pulled away and swung it back in.
- 1:26:00Ball hitting the end of his bat.
- 1:26:07Larry Rudd is the ball a bit.
- 1:26:10Takes his stretch, all in takes a bit of a lead.
- 1:26:15Bridges struck out swinging, a low curve breaking in close to his feet.
- 1:26:22One run.
- 1:26:24Do it.
- 1:26:26No errors.
- 1:26:29And while it cannot, while it really resembles a cat and dog fighting the fighter and the bear, it's quite an animal act.
- 1:26:36So take it away, Hal Trotten.
- 1:26:38You're shooting this dog self to the world's most of the compliments of the Ford Motor Company.
- 1:26:44Well, we'll start up again.
- 1:26:46What do you know about that?
- 1:26:47This series is one of the dog's on this knockdown and drag out a bear as I've looked at for years.
- 1:26:52In the first half of the tricks,
- 1:26:55the roll gal opened by making a great throw on Bemberley and Sleitha's boundary.
- 1:26:59They got him in first base.
- 1:27:01I put Cabaret out, rounded out, back double to the right field corner.
- 1:27:05But he was out, tagged out at third base on Bridges' boundary down there to slip.
- 1:27:10There's some argument on that to remember, but I'm far more out of his illustrations and just his thought that he was out for running out of line as well as being tagged out.
- 1:27:20No runs won yet.
- 1:27:22The last half of the tricks,
- 1:27:24Box and Laugher were easy outs on top slides, but roll gal came up with a second hit, a long double to the left field corner,
- 1:27:30and then Marvin O'Wan saving his one and first base hit of the series for that one spot,
- 1:27:35over in the flying run, scoring roll gal with a single to the left.
- 1:27:40Bridges ended up at the end of the straightening half, and he's going to the seventh inning with a score of 3-3. Here we go.
- 1:27:45Larry French is first up for the Cubs.
- 1:27:48That one hit and two times a bat.
- 1:27:51Queen single to the right field the last time up.
- 1:27:55Bridges starts his wind-up motion, and the first pitch is high, Ball 1.
- 1:28:04One ball of the count, French is the batter.
- 1:28:07There's a motion for the next pitch, way outside Ball 2.
- 1:28:14Bridges is quite wild on these first two pitches.
- 1:28:20Kotlin said something to him, Tommy nodded his head, yes.
- 1:28:28He's going on his pitching hand, he's ready to go on, and Baton's in there, a tall strike.
- 1:28:35Bill Fyre.
- 1:28:38The count, two balls, one strike.
- 1:28:41The arm goes up for the next pitch.
- 1:28:44Queen strikes through, and Larry certainly won that baton right from the heel of the feet.
- 1:28:52Two and two.
- 1:28:58Two and two.
- 1:29:00There's the wind-up, and here's the pitch.
- 1:29:03Winging strike, Queen's going for a blow ball that time.
- 1:29:08One out, nobody on, and Orchid Gelein is up.
- 1:29:14One hit and three times a bat.
- 1:29:16The top has one more hit in the fives, and the total of nine is against eight.
- 1:29:22Orchid has tried a three-run, and the Tigers have made the only error.
- 1:29:27Really a ball game.
- 1:29:29First pitch is a tall strike on Gelein, which is laying it over the inside corner to a left-hand batter.
- 1:29:37And Tommy starts back for the next wind-up.
- 1:29:40Two balls, one into first base, or, and taking it off the second half, and then it's on the second foot out.
- 1:29:49Two out, none on.
- 1:29:51Dan Herman, who has been doing quite well with the Willow,
- 1:29:55with a whole run on the single and three plans of bats, steps into the right-hand batter's box.
- 1:30:05There's the wind-up for the pitch.
- 1:30:08Herman is single in the left field, hitting it on the ground between Rogell and Quentin.
- 1:30:15Three for four for Young Willow.
- 1:30:19That's pretty good hitting.
- 1:30:21Anytime.
- 1:30:23Chuck Klein is up.
- 1:30:25Chuck has had a single and three plans of bats.
- 1:30:29Two men are off, Herman on first, and it scores square at three runs in the opening half of the seventh inning.
- 1:30:37Bridges takes his position on the rubber, pitches a strike to Klein, a fall strike.
- 1:30:45Hawkeman coming out fast, figuring Herman might break for second on the pitch.
- 1:30:55Klein has stepped out of the batter's box.
- 1:30:58Now he's back in again.
- 1:31:00Klein was called momentarily.
- 1:31:02Bridges throwing the rubber, facing the batter, Klein drags one to hole, and the hole is hooking it up,
- 1:31:07stepping on first base to retire the runner on the fifth.
- 1:31:13No run, one hit, no error.
- 1:31:21Klein first up, Chuck out, Gillian grounded to hole in at first,
- 1:31:26Herman single the left, and Klein grounded to hole in at first.
- 1:31:32So we go into the flagger half of the seventh, score all not to the three runs,
- 1:31:37and we have three Quentin, first man up for the tiger.
- 1:31:43Now that Owen has his first hit of the series, perhaps Quentin will garner his.
- 1:31:49He's looking for the first hit of the series.
- 1:31:54Klein first up, Chuck out, Gillian grounded to hole in at first,
- 1:31:59Herman single the left, and Klein grounded to hole in at first.
- 1:32:05So we go into the flagger half of the seventh, score all not to the three runs,
- 1:32:10and we have clean Quentin, first man up for the tiger.
- 1:32:16Now that Owen has his first hit of the series, perhaps Quentin will garner his.
- 1:32:22He's looking for the first hit of the series.
- 1:32:27Incidentally, this seems to be a good time while everyone is stretching here
- 1:32:30to remind the, particularly the local radio audience,
- 1:32:35that in case of a game being necessary for tomorrow,
- 1:32:39Pickett will be placed on sale here at Navenfield immediately at the conclusion of today's game.
- 1:32:45Quentin is up, and the first hit, a swinging strike.
- 1:32:53One strike on Quentin.
- 1:32:55The arm goes up for the next one.
- 1:32:57Quentin grounded to short stuff, an easy chance for Bill Gerges.
- 1:33:01He dives Gerges to Cabaretta, short to first.
- 1:33:10One out of the seven, nobody on, and Managis Stockman is up.
- 1:33:17One hit and three times a pass.
- 1:33:22Low ball one.
- 1:33:26That was that straight to play.
- 1:33:33The arm goes up for the next one.
- 1:33:35The swinging strike, Popper and Goehr, the third, the local wave coming, low and out, drives.
- 1:33:41And the count is one and one.
- 1:33:44One man out, nobody on in the seventh.
- 1:33:4712, square at, three runs.
- 1:33:50There's a wind-up motion.
- 1:33:53Popper and Goehr, they're going to start the game.
- 1:33:55It's going to drop three, three, four, and they hit.
- 1:33:59Single, a losing finger to better for Mickey Stockman.
- 1:34:05One man out, and getting it up.
- 1:34:08Charlie has had two hits in three times a pass so far today.
- 1:34:21French safety stretch, follow back, hit and run was on, Popper was away with a pick.
- 1:34:33Popper comes back to first now.
- 1:34:37Now he's carrying her weights outside the batter's box, now he's in.
- 1:34:42French has a new ball to pick.
- 1:34:46Popper's time from Gabby Harpeth.
- 1:34:51Fastball high, outside, ball one.
- 1:34:56One and one on Carrier.
- 1:34:58Goehr tried a three run, bring the eighth inning with Stockman on first, and one man out.
- 1:35:06Seven fittings.
- 1:35:09One on, one out.
- 1:35:11One and one on the batter.
- 1:35:13He's going to drop the pitcher's rubber, gets back on again.
- 1:35:18Stockman stepped out of the batter's box, carrying her standing right on first base.
- 1:35:23There's a lot of snow war going on here.
- 1:35:26All right, we're ready to go.
- 1:35:28Carrying a popper on that fifth inning, field flyer, still camera out of counting for it.
- 1:35:33Halfway between first and the second half, and it's been just stars and with no risk and free plans to pass.
- 1:35:43Not hard to get them on today, but it's hard to get them around.
- 1:35:56The loose steps in there, left-hand batter.
- 1:36:01He hasn't gotten the ball fast, being shamed in three tries.
- 1:36:05There's one on the ground, a three-hand playing out, deep on the grass.
- 1:36:08He throws it out at first, and just ends at the seventh inning.
- 1:36:12No runs.
- 1:36:15One hit.
- 1:36:18No errors.
- 1:36:20Going inside at three runs at the end of the seventh, and taking it away at half-bottom.
- 1:36:24Well, we're spinning to the safe now with this guard floor, and the layman is coming up,
- 1:36:28and every time a man gets on base, it looks like the potential winning run, and everybody is on base.
- 1:36:33In the first half of the seventh inning, after switching and grounded out,
- 1:36:37Knotten, who's another one of those teaching little flies in the center field for a base hit,
- 1:36:41but carrying a finish with a pop-up, and then a jostling, grounded out for the third out.
- 1:36:47There's no runs, one hit.
- 1:36:49If you try to get half, they waited for two hours to get a man on base,
- 1:36:52rather than a couple of halfs when Nehrmann's single to left, but he was out to the left.
- 1:36:56He was out to the left.
- 1:36:59Within a few days after the real series, he knew Phil for 1936 would be in the safe,
- 1:37:05and he would be on the play at Fort Deereff, everywhere.
- 1:37:11Well, here we go, Phil at 3 and 3, throwing in the finish,
- 1:37:15up to Pat, the first cover there, hoping Jaby Larkin's the third time today,
- 1:37:19that he does let off, and then the other time, he was the last run up.
- 1:37:23Jaby has one hit in his three times of fat, the single he took from before,
- 1:37:27and in the first time, he was the last to stand,
- 1:37:29and in the second, he was called out on strike,
- 1:37:32and in the fifth inning, the end of the rally, with a fly, two thousand and less to do.
- 1:37:37The fifth year of bridges, as finished as warm-up,
- 1:37:39Tyler Jordan, second base, Magnus, steps in the batter's box,
- 1:37:42and goes time for a play-by-play on his side.
- 1:37:46All right, Aaron, we're all ready to go.
- 1:37:48Jaby's in there, waving his banner, spanner bridges.
- 1:37:52Aaron, who upped up the ball a bit, throws a rubber,
- 1:37:57there's the wind-up, and the first pitch to happen is a foul strike,
- 1:38:00cutting the outside corner with a fell-side pitch.
- 1:38:05One strike on Harkness.
- 1:38:09And the next pitch coming in place with...
- 1:38:12Outside! Balls, one.
- 1:38:15Now, one and one.
- 1:38:20One and one.
- 1:38:22A fly quickly leans over the place.
- 1:38:24Balls, time for a moment.
- 1:38:26Harkness stands outside.
- 1:38:28Now, he's in. Here's the pitch.
- 1:38:30Balls, two.
- 1:38:32Jaby almost went for a batter in that time,
- 1:38:34but the ball didn't swing just in time,
- 1:38:36and the batter threw balls one strike.
- 1:38:38He's leading off in the eighth inning.
- 1:38:42There's a motion.
- 1:38:44Here's the pitch.
- 1:38:46Two up on the roof, out to the right,
- 1:38:50over to a first-rate way.
- 1:38:53Now, two and two.
- 1:39:00One of these teams better get some runs pretty soon,
- 1:39:03unless they want to go into extra innings again.
- 1:39:06Now, there's two and two,
- 1:39:08and the next pitch is hit a single in the left field,
- 1:39:11hit on the ground between Rogue-Evan-Criston
- 1:39:14before Harkness' second hit of the day.
- 1:39:18That's the second time he has opened the inning with a hit
- 1:39:21from the fourth inning.
- 1:39:23The next three men were easy.
- 1:39:26We'll see how it turns out in this inning.
- 1:39:28Gemery is up with Harkness on first.
- 1:39:33Nobody out in the eighth inning in the fourth tie to three runs.
- 1:39:38That may be the winning run on first base,
- 1:39:40you never can tell.
- 1:39:42But foul strike one.
- 1:39:46Up to playing for that one run,
- 1:39:48figuring that should be enough.
- 1:39:56One strike on Gemery.
- 1:40:00Rich is getting a new ball,
- 1:40:01works with it a bit,
- 1:40:03ranking steps out of the batter's box
- 1:40:05and rubbed a bit of earth into the palms of his hands.
- 1:40:10The rep will go well with the rosin on the handles of the back.
- 1:40:14That's in there, we're ready to go.
- 1:40:17Rich is close on his pitching hand.
- 1:40:20Get the signs from manager Stockram.
- 1:40:23Mike comes up out of the crowd.
- 1:40:25Here's the sixth.
- 1:40:27A down to Gehringer, it looks like a double play ball.
- 1:40:29Gehringer to Rogel.
- 1:40:31Rogel to Harkness.
- 1:40:33It is a double play.
- 1:40:35Gehringer, Rogel to Harkness.
- 1:40:39And then a great thing, Harkness and Gemery.
- 1:40:47Two outs, nobody on,
- 1:40:50and Phil Cavalletta is up.
- 1:40:53That ball was really a tailor made double play.
- 1:40:56If you get right at Gehringer,
- 1:40:58all the cats have to do is pick it up
- 1:41:02and charge to each other and make it.
- 1:41:06Get just hard enough to give them five.
- 1:41:10And the first pitch to Cavalletta,
- 1:41:12a slow curve on the inside corner for a call site.
- 1:41:17That was that one hit and three times a pass.
- 1:41:25Rich's arm goes up for the next one.
- 1:41:28Cavalletta leaning away from an inside pitch for the ball.
- 1:41:32And the counter is one-on-one.
- 1:41:39One-on-one on Cavalletta.
- 1:41:45Two men out, nobody on in the eighth.
- 1:41:47That is a wind-up for a pitch.
- 1:41:49Ball two.
- 1:41:52And Cavalletta leaning away comes halfway around with his body
- 1:41:56and a lot of the spectators in the distance
- 1:41:59think he's striking at it.
- 1:42:03Count is two balls and one strike.
- 1:42:06And here's the next pitch.
- 1:42:08He's one-assassin and pounded off the end of his bat
- 1:42:11with a fast ball off that outside corner
- 1:42:14to the left-hand winner.
- 1:42:16And the counter is two and two.
- 1:42:23Rich is around to see that his outfielders
- 1:42:26are all out there in good shape.
- 1:42:28He's holding his fixing hand.
- 1:42:32Pages about her now.
- 1:42:34Strike the wind-up motion and here it is, swinging right.
- 1:42:40I think he fouled at it with the evidently
- 1:42:42because he did not move away.
- 1:42:44Cochran juggled it.
- 1:42:46He couldn't even hear it or see it from here
- 1:42:48but it evidently was a foul ball because he's still in there.
- 1:42:52Mike Maystreet grabs at it.
- 1:42:54But it pops around his glove but it drops to the ground.
- 1:42:57And the count remains two strikes and two balls.
- 1:43:02He's stuck him out swinging that time, going for a lower.
- 1:43:07No one, one hit, no error.
- 1:43:12Partness, open the inning with a single left.
- 1:43:16Camarie hit into an easy double play,
- 1:43:18getting her low gel to Hoenn and Samarita struck out, swinging.
- 1:43:26So we have seven and one half in his plate
- 1:43:31and the score remains tied at three runs.
- 1:43:49The official attendance just announced 48,420 cash customers.
- 1:43:58While he's going to the tiger half of the eighth inning,
- 1:44:01the first man up is Steve Fox.
- 1:44:06Fox had a double to left the first time at that
- 1:44:09and the last two fans up has fly to Geland in left field.
- 1:44:17Then goes one fly out in left field foul,
- 1:44:20going on the loose of the left field for Vinnan
- 1:44:22and bounding down into the future for a very long strike.
- 1:44:31Just a long strike out in there.
- 1:44:34For those of you who have been to Mavenfield,
- 1:44:36it's bounded off the permanent left field exit.
- 1:44:40Final strike two, that one is in the third
- 1:44:43and umpire Ernie Kidney gets a great fear from the crowd
- 1:44:47as he made a looping catch of that bounder.
- 1:44:53The umpiring in this series we've noticed,
- 1:44:56the umpires have been fairly very active.
- 1:44:58They're on top of every play.
- 1:45:01The runners pass to the players.
- 1:45:03Fox down at the start right field between Camarita
- 1:45:06and Helene for a single.
- 1:45:10He had a slow bounder down there.
- 1:45:13Camarita with a fit bewildered, did not start for it.
- 1:45:17Then Fernan started back to first thinking Herman
- 1:45:20might come up with a ball,
- 1:45:22but Billy was playing down short seconds with Fox
- 1:45:26in natural left field hitter at back.
- 1:45:31So Peter's on first as a result of his single
- 1:45:35and two walkers, one hit and two a fickle time to batter up.
- 1:45:39Also a right hand batter.
- 1:45:45Walker butters in front of the plate.
- 1:45:47They sacrifice and adopt Pachnick to Herman
- 1:45:51who covers advancing Fox to second.
- 1:45:58Tigers are playing for one run also.
- 1:46:06Fox on second, one out, Bill Rogel with single
- 1:46:10and a double and three times a back.
- 1:46:13Here's the hitter.
- 1:46:20North side at three runs and we're in the eighth inning,
- 1:46:23the last half of the eighth.
- 1:46:26High and outside it looks like a palpable pitch out.
- 1:46:29I believe Hartman falls for that pitch out
- 1:46:33with the evident inspection of passing one down to second
- 1:46:38to passing one down to second to six-two Fox off.
- 1:46:43However no soul was made as Fox did not take much of a lead.
- 1:46:50Flinging strikes, nice curve to slope right in there to Bill
- 1:46:53and the count is one-one on Rogel.
- 1:47:00Pachnick is full step-side into a short right field position
- 1:47:05and one to Frank Gemery, he over into more into left center field.
- 1:47:10Fox near the screen in regular left field position.
- 1:47:14Four right hand batters.
- 1:47:16Rogel, how long does the first baseway strike soon?
- 1:47:23Count is two strikes and one ball.
- 1:47:26Bill is dying evidently to push that one down there
- 1:47:30and the rather uncennel is part of right field.
- 1:47:36With the short center down, it would have been a good place to punch one.
- 1:47:44However Bill to pitch, just a foul strike and the count is two strikes and one ball.
- 1:47:50French is ready, there's the fetch.
- 1:47:54Here's the fetch.
- 1:47:56Fringes strikes freeing and Fox is retired for the second half in the eighth.
- 1:48:01Rogel, with Fox still on second, Marvin on, that is first hit.
- 1:48:08In the sixth inning, the side of the score is now a first hit of the series.
- 1:48:16They're going to give Horn an intentional base on ball
- 1:48:20to bring up the county bridges.
- 1:48:24Wall one, Wall two, Wall three, and Wall four.
- 1:48:35Now the Tigers have Fox on second, Owen on third, and Bridges is up.
- 1:48:51Bridges is a batter with a forward side, a three run, two men on and two men out.
- 1:49:00Hotfielders moving in a little close now for Collie, he was not expected to hit one part.
- 1:49:07He was banned once, rounded the second, got on on a fielded strike.
- 1:49:12Flinging strikes.
- 1:49:22He forced Owen on second in the fourth inning, hitting one to third base.
- 1:49:33One strike on Bridges, and the next hit, swinging strikes freeing.
- 1:49:39Right-saving one in close to his feet, two and nothing.
- 1:49:47You'll always notice about Tom in the regular season, and that is that he goes down swinging
- 1:49:54at the rules, and he goes down, he's up there cutting at them.
- 1:50:00French takes his stretch, here's a catch.
- 1:50:05Right-saving ball, he's put back in over the outside corner.
- 1:50:11Going at the first two, and looked at the third one.
- 1:50:14French retiring him on three pitches, and we have no run, one hit, no error in the eighth inning.
- 1:50:24And going to the ninth with a four-two tied, that's three runs.
- 1:50:28Taking away Hal Cush.
- 1:50:30He both shows the world series games, but is sent through by the Ford Motor Company,
- 1:50:35billed with Ford and Lincoln cars and Ford trucks, with the Henry Ford, with the Edgelford,
- 1:50:41and the local Ford billed.
- 1:50:44The new Ford for 1936 will soon be introduced, and will be on display at Ford Billings everywhere.
- 1:50:53Clearly, that's 10th inning, both things started off identically, but sitting up a little differently,
- 1:50:58all those games are sore.
- 1:51:00In the couple-half, Hardnett opens with that single to left,
- 1:51:03or was cut down on the front end of a double play, Gemini being second up.
- 1:51:07That had been struck out. In the five-year half, Spock opens with a single to right,
- 1:51:12Darker plays for second by Walker, then Rogel struck out,
- 1:51:15Owen was perfectly tough, and Huggers were called out on strike, ending that inning with Ford.
- 1:51:20Still a five-three-and-three, and here's the big night, and come inside.
- 1:51:24Stanley Hack is first up for the Cubs.
- 1:51:28He's had a double in three plans at bat, and the first pick is low and inside.
- 1:51:34That's fan batter. Four-one.
- 1:51:41Bridges starts his wind-up. Here's the next pick.
- 1:51:44It's hit hard into center field, loop over Walker's head, and that's going for three bases,
- 1:51:51or possibly a home run inside the park.
- 1:51:54Relay is coming into Garinger, and it's a three-basic opening the ninth inning by Stanley Hack,
- 1:52:01the Cubs third base, and keeps in that better field corner high over G. Walker's head.
- 1:52:08That score was tag-plenty.
- 1:52:12The Cubs ought to get a run here.
- 1:52:15Run on third, and nobody out, opening the ninth inning.
- 1:52:21The next man up is Bill Gergans, one hit and three plans at bat.
- 1:52:27The thing of playing in, of course, is cut this run off as possible.
- 1:52:31McCall's strike on Gergans, Bridges serving one over the outside corner.
- 1:52:42Boy does fella Hack sure slide into that, and he's two-off.
- 1:52:47Big Gergans flung it a low and for the second strike, now there's two and nothing.
- 1:52:58Two and nothing. Nobody out, and Hack on third.
- 1:53:07Bridges gets to find some proclam, gets on the rubber, and starts his wind-up.
- 1:53:12Here's the pick, swinging strike three, a third which broke away from him.
- 1:53:19One out in the ninth, and French is up.
- 1:53:25Larry French the pitcher, keeps coming up there after getting a bit of rosin on his hands.
- 1:53:33Here to drip the bat, he's had one hit, and has spanned twice.
- 1:53:53All right, we're ready to go.
- 1:53:57The pitch is stepped out and flung strike one, back with halfway home.
- 1:54:03Running up on the pitch, but the caller might been going to have a smooth play here to get him home.
- 1:54:11Still may have it, you never can tell.
- 1:54:13Larry the wind-up, swinging strike two, and the count is two and nothing on French.
- 1:54:22One man, nothing. One man out.
- 1:54:27Hack is on third. Bridges gets to sign, takes his time, his arm goes up in the motions.
- 1:54:33Hitters, a rounder to Bridges, he puts the runner back to third, then throws the ball around.
- 1:54:42For the second out.
- 1:54:45He's a founder right back to the box, Bill Rogel patting Tommy on the back, and now the Tiger in field can back up.
- 1:54:55Two men gone, and Argy Gellan is up.
- 1:55:02Argy has had one hit and four times a bat, single in the third, and he left hand batter.
- 1:55:12And Hack is still on third, with his arm folded down.
- 1:55:16Here's the first pitch to Argy, all out the wild pitch, Kotlin saving Bridges by making a great stop for that ball which hit just in front of the plate.
- 1:55:27Making staggered all over the plate, six dirt on it, and on fire Bill Trigley has just dusted it off.
- 1:55:34One ball.
- 1:55:41Bridges takes his time, there's the wind up, and here's the next pitch.
- 1:55:45They drive into short left field, and Garzlin comes in for the hand.
- 1:55:58No run, one hit, no error.
- 1:56:05Hack opened that inning with a long circle, over Warners head into deep center field, and remained on third base while Bridges spanned Bergen,
- 1:56:17crouched down into the pitchers, and Gellan ended the inning with a fly to Garzlin in short left, with a short still side at three runs, and we pause for station identification.
- 1:56:31This is WM-AQ, the Chicago Daily News Station.
- 1:56:41Here we go into the slider half of the night.
- 1:56:45We've seen three of baseballs, drama in that half.
- 1:56:49The first pitch is a tall strike, Fred cutting the outside corner.
- 1:56:57And it's still very noisy over that extra blitz in the Bridges pitting.
- 1:57:04Ball inside the count is one and one.
- 1:57:14One and one on, clean system leading off in the Tiger half of the night.
- 1:57:19He follows the next pitch into the dirt, drags two.
- 1:57:25Two strikes and one ball.
- 1:57:34Two and one.
- 1:57:36Frank starts his wind up for the next pitch.
- 1:57:39Outside and high, ball through, two and two.
- 1:57:48Larry gets the sign from Gabby Martin.
- 1:57:52Wretches the dust away from the pitchers rubber, his arm goes up in the motions, twists and fouled into the upper deck.
- 1:57:59Off first, great big play, and they're just rambling for that apple.
- 1:58:08Count remains, two strikes and two balls.
- 1:58:14He starts his wind up for the next pitch, ball three, outside, three and two.
- 1:58:26Three and two is the count.
- 1:58:31There's the wind up, here's the pitch.
- 1:58:34Wretches and cut out to open the ninth for the Tigers.
- 1:58:38He strikes out for Frank, Wretches got the fish and when Bridges fan Durgers in the ninth, it marks his seventh strikeout.
- 1:58:58The next runner, Bobby Carriere, gets a single off Billy Herman Slum, down near second base.
- 1:59:08I'm pretty sure they'll call out a single, this is a very hard scan.
- 1:59:13A sticky cartoon, rather.
- 1:59:16He went way down near the fact, and as they hit, watching the score there.
- 1:59:26Third hit of the day, and here comes Carriere with two hits, in four times a pass.
- 1:59:31Each pitcher has struck out seven men so far.
- 1:59:36It is a real ball game.
- 1:59:39Ball one, way outside the Carriere, a left hand batter, over in the right hand batter's box, is where a heart of chips that fits.
- 1:59:51He gets the sign, he's ready to go, there's one man out in Cochrane on first.
- 1:59:56Ball two, another serve outside.
- 2:00:02Two and nothing.
- 2:00:09Two and nothing on Carriere.
- 2:00:15He's up to have 12 hits from the pitcher's 11 so far. There's a threat.
- 2:00:24One of the tire freerounds, Carriere hits the batter, goes through with a late second base after stepping on the back of his fired Carriere,
- 2:00:35but his throw, down the second, failed to get Cochrane.
- 2:00:40Carriere's first down.
- 2:00:46Cochrane is on second with two men out, getting her out of first.
- 2:00:51Cavaletta unassisted on a hard smash down the first base line, still knocked the ball down, then fixed it up,
- 2:01:00steps on the back and through the second base trying to get Cochrane.
- 2:01:06Mick is in there safely and Goose Gargling is about it with two men down in the ninth and the winning run on second.
- 2:01:17Goose will be given a pass, I imagine.
- 2:01:22Can't tell yet, so I think Cavalemort is that way.
- 2:01:29Goose is calling Nagi Golan in a little bit in left field, maybe they'll fix it or do. He hasn't got the one out of the infield today.
- 2:01:37We will see in just a moment.
- 2:01:41French after getting ready to fix, that's all for the rubber a moment. Cochrane's taking a lead.
- 2:01:48All right, we're ready to go. Here's the fix.
- 2:01:52Going that first one down, first base line, strike one, they're pitching to him, there's no walk here.
- 2:02:01One strike on Leon Gargling.
- 2:02:06Gargling is in a continuous uproar.
- 2:02:16Line is being caused for a moment here while Larry French is rubbing the sign off his new ball.
- 2:02:25Here we go.
- 2:02:28And next six, Gargling, the first base.
- 2:02:34Goose is scored the winning run and the world's leading in some over. Longer hit, Larry,
- 2:03:02the world's leading is just about over, the Tigers winning it four to three.
- 2:03:19Hello everyone, this is both Carter and the first is just absolutely gone mad.
- 2:03:24That was the most surprising thing and the last pitch that went all the way out went over to the center field as head
- 2:03:30and the winning run came right over home plate and the stand just went completely great.
- 2:03:35People flooded down, the umpires didn't even bother to say they just began to run,
- 2:03:40the ball eating the ball and it got to the ground.
- 2:03:43The paper is beginning to litter all over the place just like, so to we say,
- 2:03:49the crowd is rushing right down here in front of me, most men, women,
- 2:03:54and they're all frowning around the Tigers dugout. It looks like a complete mad mob.
- 2:03:58I'm trying to lean over the press box here. It's like on the very edge of a cliff
- 2:04:03looking right down on top of everybody else and my two assistants Hal Thompson and Pye Tyson
- 2:04:09have gone down to the dugout to these two teams to try and see if they can all get these boys on the airfoil.
- 2:04:15But nevertheless, I've never seen such a crowd. Have you ever seen,
- 2:04:19have you ever been like a child on the beach in the sand and you build up a great big pile of sand
- 2:04:24and you stand it up a little wall and you break the wall and you watch all the sand
- 2:04:28flood right out onto the level of space right in front of you.
- 2:04:31Here are all these people flooding out from that great enormous sand in the left field reaches,
- 2:04:36color of greens, things red, you've found every single spot that they think of.
- 2:04:40They're walking all over the place, they're walking little old, tiny figures.
- 2:04:44Have you ever played with Toy Story soldiers and you move them all over the ground
- 2:04:48and you have a little flower and green and Patrick's flower and you've seen all these people flooding to one spot.
- 2:04:53They're all making out of this one sand and racing down here to the Tigers dugout
- 2:04:57so I dropped with the first five in the history of baseball,
- 2:05:01of Detroit baseball anyway, at Sandkinson since 1887.
- 2:05:05And think of what this town is going to be tonight.
- 2:05:08It's the most amazing thing that you've ever seen and you've also listened to the game,
- 2:05:13but the tension has been terrific. It's been a ding-dong battle all the way
- 2:05:17in the first inning in Detroit, got one run.
- 2:05:21Just a minute, I see that all these people are flooding out to the other gate.
- 2:05:25Some people are going out there, they think they've had enough.
- 2:05:29But the first of all, Detroit got one run. And then in the third inning,
- 2:05:33Chicago tied that up. Now that was one run.
- 2:05:37And then in the fourth inning, I'm reading from the fourth one, Detroit got another run.
- 2:05:42So that makes two to one in favor of all Detroit.
- 2:05:45And then in the fifth inning, Chicago came right back and hit two runs.
- 2:05:49So, that was one up to Chicago and they led with one run on the sixth inning.
- 2:05:54They played Detroit, tied it up again and very good.
- 2:05:58Even on full, extraordinary, very dramatic, nice inning.
- 2:06:04Let me read you this. I made a lot of notes while we were going on.
- 2:06:09This crowd is perfectly terrific down here.
- 2:06:12There's just millions shoving and trying to put their way into the Tigers' house,
- 2:06:16but they're police down there trying to hold them back.
- 2:06:19And there are people eating standing on the roof.
- 2:06:22One man trying to climb in upside down on the roof.
- 2:06:25And women walking around too.
- 2:06:27It's just one man trying to help a woman to get over the top.
- 2:06:30But there doesn't seem to be much to test them as far as dividing part of the time
- 2:06:33between watching this woman trying to get back again and the players.
- 2:06:37One at a time.
- 2:06:39Ladies and gentlemen, just a moment.
- 2:06:41We'll talk after this and we'll send you through to Detroit.
- 2:06:44Tied ties and ladies and gentlemen, it's down at the Detroit Tied House.
- 2:06:47So let me switch it down there to you. All right, Tied, take it away.
- 2:06:53This is Tied Tied and down in the Tigers' domestic room.
- 2:06:57And where we have manager Mickey Cochran and Goose Garvin.
- 2:07:01First of all, manager Mike is going to fuck you just briefly while I get all the Tommy Bridges.
- 2:07:08Nice, Tied. Hello, everyone.
- 2:07:11On the surface of the happy history of my life.
- 2:07:14It's part of the most sensational and thrilling world series.
- 2:07:17And it's been played in some time.
- 2:07:19And certainly it was the greatest thrill of my life when I stepped across that home plate
- 2:07:24with all the Goose and a wild, joyful, seven-year-old Jersey single to right.
- 2:07:29Thanks all and congratulations, Charlie Grimman and Cochran.
- 2:07:32They have a great football club.
- 2:07:34And it was a real, chubby, chip spirit.
- 2:07:37Here's Goose Garvin. Thank you very much, Mickey.
- 2:07:40And here's Goose Garvin, who's called Mickey Cochran for the winning run, a $2,000 run.
- 2:07:45Hello, folks. The clubs are a great ball club.
- 2:07:48And I was more thrilled in this game.
- 2:07:52I think I felt like everything depended upon winning this game.
- 2:07:56And the clubs, there was such a young ball club and everybody said they were so hard-pushed.
- 2:08:01We found them very hard. Thank you.
- 2:08:04Thank you very much, Goose Garvin.
- 2:08:07Tommy Bridges is coming up here right away, the winning pitcher who won post the games
- 2:08:12that he started in his World Series for the Tigers.
- 2:08:15Here he comes with Hal Thompson calling him up, smoking his cigarette.
- 2:08:19He's in his undershirt, but he's very happy to have won. Say something, Tommy.
- 2:08:22Hello, everybody. Everybody's putting everything around here right now.
- 2:08:26Okay.
- 2:08:27There's entirely too much confusion going on here.
- 2:08:30For anything more, the boys are starting their 10-and-winning and World Series-winning
- 2:08:36qualifications.
- 2:08:37So this is the Tigers and turning it back upstairs to both cars.
- 2:08:46Well, here we are back again upstairs in the press box.
- 2:08:49And thank you, Hal and thank you, Ty.
- 2:08:52Ladies and gentlemen, I think that I would like to add my word if I may to the extraordinary
- 2:08:57good work done by Hal Thompson and the Tigers.
- 2:09:00And may I spend this report once again back to Hal Thompson and something else to say to you.
- 2:09:08Take it away, Hal.
- 2:09:13Oh, he's not quite ready.
- 2:09:15See you later, some gentlemen.
- 2:09:16We're right at the bottom of the stadium and we're all the way up here.
- 2:09:21And we've got to work this business by engineers all over the line.
- 2:09:26All right. It's going down now.
- 2:09:27All right. Take it away, Hal.
- 2:09:28Hey, haven't even said no or even passed away from this microphone.
- 2:09:32First, I wanted to do two, but then managers, like Charlie Green, Charlie Hudley, who's
- 2:09:37feeling, I'm trying to feel disappointed.
- 2:09:39I feel disappointed, of course, but I feel happy to be repeating my grand ball club.
- 2:09:43And my ball club is also grand ball clubbers.
- 2:09:46Cup series all the way and I think was very evenly matched.
- 2:09:50It's just a matter of who could get one more run than the other ball club unless the ball club didn't want.
- 2:09:54Thank you, Charlie.
- 2:09:55Thank you very much.
- 2:09:56You know, Charlie Hartnett said he's from the group and I probably want to find new ones
- 2:10:01who will be in the show by now.
- 2:10:03Who's going to run?
- 2:10:05Run.
- 2:10:06Run for a minute, will you?
- 2:10:07How do you feel about this ball club?
- 2:10:08It beats you today.
- 2:10:09I think I won the best ball club I ever saw.
- 2:10:11And I think we battled them together in the best battle that the people in the world
- 2:10:16series have seen in the many a day.
- 2:10:18And so I only hope that we get to play them again in the better than next year.
- 2:10:22Well, thank you, learn more.
- 2:10:23If you're new to Charlie Hartnett, the chapter of the Cup, Leah, what have you got to say about this?
- 2:10:28I'm fortunate to hear some more than I'm a Cup loser.
- 2:10:31And because it gives a deep try, I'm going to let you cut it because it's a great hushling ball club.
- 2:10:35And also, well, I'll take it later.
- 2:10:37Thank you, Leo.
- 2:10:38Thanks a lot.
- 2:10:39I would like to get to Larry.
- 2:10:41I know Larry will be a part of all.
- 2:10:44And I'd like to get Billy Newman back to find a run and let the Cup players are mostly around here.
- 2:10:49In the new season, I've been waiting around the Rockin' Circle and Dr. Andy Lachaw.
- 2:10:54There's been one of you.
- 2:10:55Billy Newman over here, Billy Newman at Williams.
- 2:10:58Billy Newman's a part of this side home run, the Chubbick up to S today, and they held that lease a little while.
- 2:11:03Bill, how do you see it?
- 2:11:04I think it is.
- 2:11:05He's played a good ball club, and I think they'll do the better ball club.
- 2:11:09That's the old stuff in the spirit.
- 2:11:11The suits have been going.
- 2:11:12And I don't know if Larry is still over there in the showers or not. Larry is in the showers.
- 2:11:19I know he doesn't feel much like talking, but sometimes I come over and do that.
- 2:11:24What is the limit, William?
- 2:11:25Here's the captain of the Chubs.
- 2:11:26What do you think, the boy who is captain of the New York Des Moines?
- 2:11:30Is he backing up?
- 2:11:31Here's the boy that stills the holdings on.
- 2:11:32What do you think, William?
- 2:11:33There was a great day.
- 2:11:35I think the team that got the breaks won pretty easily in that close up.
- 2:11:39It was a good day, wasn't it?
- 2:11:41And now, ladies and gentlemen, and I think we've just about established a number of
- 2:11:45parts of the roadstrip here.
- 2:11:46The dressing room is a down the road, and they've left their nuts showing mentally.
- 2:11:49And they're left even dreaded.
- 2:11:50So now we're going to turn the brooch carter up in the booth.
- 2:11:54Meg up there, ladies and gentlemen, and they've put spots with brooch carter.
- 2:11:57And I'm looking down over here, there's the people right down below the Tigers dugout.
- 2:12:02And I think they're trying to wait for the Tigers and the victors to come out.
- 2:12:05And if they ever do, they're simply going to get mobbed.
- 2:12:08They're probably somewhere about 5,000 to 6,000 people jammed.
- 2:12:11So tight.
- 2:12:12I've never seen people jam like that before in all my life.
- 2:12:15And there's one wag who's standing on top of the Tigers dugout on the roof giving
- 2:12:21cheering signals.
- 2:12:22And then 12 people jammed tight together trying to answer them and they're swaying through
- 2:12:26and through.
- 2:12:27And let me also add, if I may, what I was going to say a minute ago, the splendid work done
- 2:12:31by Hal Tyson and Sye Tyson and Hal Thompson.
- 2:12:35They'd be up here every day covering this game.
- 2:12:37They are today and it's an awful tough job with all these people here.
- 2:12:40And my hat brought certainly to them.
- 2:12:43You have received the broadcast of all the World Series games with a compliment to the
- 2:12:47Ford Motor Company.
- 2:12:48The sponsors will be amply repaid if you have enjoyed these broadcasts.
- 2:12:52And we congratulate the winners, the Detroit Tigers World Champions for 1935.
- 2:12:57And also compliment the Chicago government for the outstanding brand of baseball played
- 2:13:02during the entire series.
- 2:13:03And we wish them both a successful season in 1936.
- 2:13:08In the meantime, what's the point to go by?
- 2:13:11And this is both Carter signing off from Navy Field Detroit and also for Hal Thompson and
- 2:13:17Sye Tyson.
- 2:13:18Until we renounce Virginia's law studio.
