- 1:02Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:05Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that he has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if

- 1:13Speaker 1: to recommend it to a friend, you can hear this
- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Jesus told him I am the Way, the Truth, and
- 1:27Speaker 2: the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
- 1:33Speaker 2: If you know me, you will also know my Father.
- 1:37Speaker 2: From now on. You do know him and have seen him, Lord,
- 1:42Speaker 2: said Philip, Show us the Father, and that's enough for us.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Jesus said to him, have I been among you all
- 1:51Speaker 2: this time without your knowing me? Philip, the one who
- 1:56Speaker 2: has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say,
- 2:00Speaker 2: show us the Father? Don't you believe that I am
- 2:04Speaker 2: in the Father, and the Father is in me. The
- 2:08Speaker 2: words I speak to you, I do not speak on
- 2:11Speaker 2: my own. The Father who lives in me does his works.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Believe me that I am in the Father and the
- 2:19Speaker 2: Father is in me. Otherwise believe because of the works themselves.
- 2:27Speaker 2: John chapter fourteenth and verses six through eleven. We have
- 2:34Speaker 2: been looking at the study of the power of the
- 2:38Speaker 2: Holy Spirit. Here we have just read the account that
- 2:43Speaker 2: was given when Jesus was answering the question about the Father.
- 2:50Speaker 2: You see, the same individuals that had been with Jesus
- 2:55Speaker 2: throughout the entire time of his earthly ministry were looking
- 2:59Speaker 2: for or a different type of Messiah. They didn't understand
- 3:05Speaker 2: what it meant to be doing the will of the Father.
- 3:11Speaker 2: They only felt that this was going to be the
- 3:16Speaker 2: freeing Messiah that would take them out of the hands
- 3:21Speaker 2: of Roman tyranny. But they began to understand when Jesus
- 3:27Speaker 2: was saying to them that he was going to go away,
- 3:31Speaker 2: and he was telling them, comforting them that he was
- 3:36Speaker 2: not going to leave them, but he would come to them.
- 3:42Speaker 2: And this was very hard for them to understand. When
- 3:46Speaker 2: they looked at their own situation, they did not comprehend
- 3:52Speaker 2: what he meant when he said I'm going to my Father.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Later he even explained to them how they would know
- 4:07Speaker 2: that he actually was in the Father, because they would
- 4:13Speaker 2: come and make their residence in the believers. You see, believer,
- 4:22Speaker 2: this is the promise of the Father that Jesus said.
- 4:28Speaker 2: He will never leave us comfortless. He will always be
- 4:34Speaker 2: there with us. It's important to understand that when we
- 4:40Speaker 2: speak of God the Father, God the Son, and God
- 4:45Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit, it is as though we are speaking
- 4:50Speaker 2: of one person. And I know that sometimes this is
- 4:55Speaker 2: a little bit difficult to comprehend. But if you could
- 4:59Speaker 2: pick sure, God the Father is a spirit, Jesus preexisting
- 5:07Speaker 2: is a spirit, and the Holy Spirit is the ability
- 5:13Speaker 2: that the Father and Jesus have in the third person
- 5:19Speaker 2: to inhabit believers. Because Jesus is saying this, if we
- 5:27Speaker 2: follow his words. In also John the fourteenth chapter, he
- 5:34Speaker 2: says that in a little while, you will see me
- 5:40Speaker 2: no longer, but you will see me because I live,
- 5:45Speaker 2: You will live too. In that day you will know
- 5:50Speaker 2: that I am in my Father, you are in me,
- 5:55Speaker 2: and I am in you. The one who has my
- 6:00Speaker 2: commands and keeps them is the one who loves me,
- 6:05Speaker 2: and the one who loves me will be loved by
- 6:08Speaker 2: my father. I also will love him and will reveal
- 6:15Speaker 2: myself to him. And that's John fourteen nineteen through twenty one.
- 6:23Speaker 2: You see, one of the things that we're looking at
- 6:27Speaker 2: is a description. When you look at an individual in
- 6:33Speaker 2: their bodily form, you have a image of what that
- 6:40Speaker 2: individual looks like. You can see that individual, but in reality,
- 6:49Speaker 2: the individual is inside of what you see. The individual
- 6:55Speaker 2: is not the body, but the spirit inside. Man is
- 7:02Speaker 2: made up of three parts. He is a spirit, he
- 7:09Speaker 2: in dwells or lives in a body, and he has
- 7:14Speaker 2: an eternal soul. You see, this is the way that
- 7:20Speaker 2: we know that we are the followers of Jesus. I'll
- 7:26Speaker 2: give you an example so that you can see what
- 7:30Speaker 2: is meant by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. If
- 7:36Speaker 2: we look at this synonymously, you'll be able to tell
- 7:40Speaker 2: that the Spirit of Christ and the Holy Spirit are
- 7:47Speaker 2: actually in conjunction with God the Father in function. So
- 7:55Speaker 2: if someone were to say have you received the Holy
- 7:59Speaker 2: Spirit after you believe and you answered, I don't know
- 8:06Speaker 2: about the Holy Spirit, then that person is a candidate
- 8:14Speaker 2: for being able to receive the Spirit of Christ. Now
- 8:20Speaker 2: we think about this when we look at the examples
- 8:25Speaker 2: that are given in scripture. When Jesus said in the
- 8:30Speaker 2: previous reading that on that day you will know that
- 8:36Speaker 2: I am in my Father, and my Father is me.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I am in you, and you are in me. In
- 8:50Speaker 2: other words, what he is actually describing is that the
- 8:54Speaker 2: spirit being is going to inhabit our spirit being, so
- 9:00Speaker 2: that we in turn will do the Father's will. Jesus said,
- 9:09Speaker 2: if you don't believe me, believe the works that you
- 9:15Speaker 2: see perform, because these are the works of the Father.
- 9:21Speaker 2: If many times people today would look at the way
- 9:27Speaker 2: that the works of the Father are being performed in
- 9:31Speaker 2: the body of Christ, they would be able to see
- 9:35Speaker 2: and testify that these are the works that Jesus referred
- 9:42Speaker 2: to in John fourteen twelve when he said, greater works
- 9:47Speaker 2: than these will you do? Because I go to my Father. Now,
- 9:55Speaker 2: when we look at this particular passage, we can see
- 10:00Speaker 2: three definite things. First, Jesus identified himself as being in
- 10:09Speaker 2: the Father. Now there's one thing to say with the Father.
- 10:15Speaker 2: There's another thing to say in the Father. In order
- 10:20Speaker 2: for us to be able to comprehend, we have to
- 10:25Speaker 2: understand that Jesus and the Father are one. So when
- 10:30Speaker 2: he says I am in the Father, it means that
- 10:34Speaker 2: he and the Father are of the same spirit, exactly one.
- 10:42Speaker 2: But there's also another significance, and that is that the
- 10:49Speaker 2: Holy Spirit is the ability of God the Father and
- 10:55Speaker 2: Jesus the Son to inhabit believers throughout the world, all
- 11:03Speaker 2: at the same time. Millions, perhaps billions, of believers are
- 11:10Speaker 2: able to be in dwelled by the Holy Spirit. And
- 11:16Speaker 2: so the third distinction is the power of God comes
- 11:24Speaker 2: to the believer. With the receiving of the Holy Spirit.
- 11:31Speaker 2: You see, we can believe in our mind and we
- 11:36Speaker 2: can actually begin to intellectually comprehend the Gospel message. But
- 11:43Speaker 2: it's not enough to believe in our minds. The scripture
- 11:47Speaker 2: says that if you believe in your heart. Now this
- 11:52Speaker 2: is not speaking of the physical heart. This is talking
- 11:56Speaker 2: about the spiritual center of man where the Holy Spirit
- 12:03Speaker 2: can dwell. And because of that we find that the
- 12:08Speaker 2: mental acceptance is overpowered by the spiritual acceptance. You see, believer,
- 12:19Speaker 2: many people believe in their mind, but they don't in
- 12:27Speaker 2: their spirit, and because of that, they still go through
- 12:33Speaker 2: all of the aspects of powerless living. They are victims. Still,
- 12:40Speaker 2: they find themselves constantly in battle with sin and the world.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Now that's not to say that there's not a battle,
- 12:52Speaker 2: but there's a big difference. When you have the victor
- 12:57Speaker 2: living within you. You see the victory that is in
- 13:03Speaker 2: Jesus is proclaimed to the world. Not because we look
- 13:10Speaker 2: at a cross where the crucified Christ paid our payment
- 13:16Speaker 2: for sin. We look at the resurrected, glorified form that
- 13:24Speaker 2: inhabits us living because it's the living Christ that can heal,
- 13:33Speaker 2: can deliver, and can set others free. The whole purpose
- 13:40Speaker 2: of the Gospel is to bring freedom to those who
- 13:46Speaker 2: are captive. Jesus proclaimed that he was anointed, that he
- 13:54Speaker 2: was actually empowered by the spirit to give freedom to
- 14:03Speaker 2: those that were bound. He said, at liberty those who
- 14:10Speaker 2: were bruised, He healed those who were afflicted. He performed
- 14:18Speaker 2: the works that the Father had him prepared to do,
- 14:25Speaker 2: because he and the Father are one.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.

- 15:16Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Today, it's important for us to understand we will not
- 15:26Speaker 2: fully comprehend the Godhead, the Triune God, God in three persons.
- 15:35Speaker 2: We won't fully comprehend that until we are in our
- 15:41Speaker 2: own resurrected form, in our own glorified bodies, and our
- 15:49Speaker 2: spirit will be able to identify with God the Father,
- 15:54Speaker 2: God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We today
- 16:00Speaker 2: are like what the apostle Paul said when he wrote
- 16:06Speaker 2: that we today are knowledgeable as if we're looking through
- 16:12Speaker 2: a glass Dimly. We can't see it clearly, but we
- 16:18Speaker 2: will see it clearly when Jesus resurrects us, whether we
- 16:26Speaker 2: die in the flesh before that takes place, or we're
- 16:32Speaker 2: living when he comes back to receive us unto himself.
- 16:39Speaker 2: And that is today's reflection on the Word.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
