Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Fourteen to six now and Gavin Grays with US Live
- 0:02Speaker 1: from the UK. The French election big turnout.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Indeed looks like it, Ryan, Yeah, So a very important
- 0:10Speaker 2: next to fifteen minutes when the polls will close, and
- 0:13Speaker 2: then we should get some sort of an exit poll
- 0:17Speaker 2: coming out shortly after that, and then of course we
- 0:21Speaker 2: will know what's going on in the hours after that.
- 0:23Speaker 2: This is a huge moment for France. The National Rally Party,
- 0:28Speaker 2: the far right party, got one in three of the
- 0:30Speaker 2: votes of the first round last week. But since then
- 0:34Speaker 2: the left wing and centrist parties have got together to
- 0:37Speaker 2: try and basically some of them stand down in order
- 0:40Speaker 2: to hope that their supporters will then support the other
- 0:43Speaker 2: left wing our centrist candidate to freeze out the far right.
- 0:46Speaker 2: The question is will it work. The tempers have been
- 0:49Speaker 2: frayed over the last week with dozens of reports of
- 0:52Speaker 2: verbal and physical assaults of both candidates and activists and
- 0:56Speaker 2: those putting up posters and so forth. So lots of
- 0:59Speaker 2: police as on the street, thirty thousand police deployed, five
- 1:03Speaker 2: thousand of them in Paris alone. Things very very tense there,
- 1:06Speaker 2: so obviously we'll need to keep up to date with
- 1:08Speaker 2: that here in the UK. We've just had our election,
- 1:11Speaker 2: of course, and already the new Prime Minister, Skirstana visiting
- 1:15Speaker 2: the four nations, so going currently up in Scotland, going
- 1:19Speaker 2: to Northern Ireland and to Wales as well, trying to
- 1:22Speaker 2: sort of, as it were, seal the deal and to
- 1:24Speaker 2: show the irrespective leaders of those different places that he
- 1:28Speaker 2: is looking for a conversation and support and cooperation very quickly.
- 1:32Speaker 1: What is wrong with a kiss? This French cyclist has
- 1:36Speaker 1: been fine?
- 1:36Speaker 2: Ah, yeah, what a good question. So this is referring
- 1:40Speaker 2: to the Tour de France. There was a time trial
- 1:43Speaker 2: when one of the riders, a French cyclist, was quite
- 1:45Speaker 2: cycling quite near his home and out pop supporters and
- 1:49Speaker 2: his wife and it was a time trial if it
- 1:51Speaker 2: just stopped briefly to kiss his wife. And he's been
- 1:54Speaker 2: fined two hundred Swiss francs roughly three hundred and eighty
- 1:58Speaker 2: New Zealand dollars for the privilege, saying that the sports
- 2:01Speaker 2: governing body said it was unseemly or inappropriate behavior during
- 2:05Speaker 2: the race and damage to the image of the sport.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Who'd have thought it ran It's a.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Lot of money. I hope it was a French Kiss.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Thanksgivin us from the UK. For more from News Talks,
