- 0:30she is really your leg of WII. Hi. Just that one question,
- 0:36my darling, what did you do with the ice cream? That was one?
- 0:38All of sticks? It's in that dumpster? Oh not that one?
- 0:52Four Finger Discount dude. Welcome to four figure Discount where this week we are
- 1:12here to review episode ajb F two two. It is ice cream of Margie
- 1:15with the light blue hair. I'm Dano and I am guy. He's smiling
- 1:19because we just did a little There was an error with the microphones and I
- 1:23didn't let him do the I am guy in train. He looked at me
- 1:26blankly, hell, and then he threw me off by going back to factory
- 1:33settings. So I was like, I just don't know what to think.
- 1:36Just keeping you awake. That's increasingly tough for these days. But yes,
- 1:41I am guy. You are guy indeed, And as I said, we're
- 1:44here to review ice cream of Margin before we get into that episode. It
- 1:47is Halloween season. It was Halloween yesterday, as speaky and how did you
- 1:52get any foot paths? He pies are more of our minced pires are more
- 1:56of a Christmas thing, aren't they? They are Christmas there, Christmas thing.
- 1:59Yeah? Yeah, how was your Halloween? My Halloween was just fine,
- 2:01thank you very much. I went to visit my good buddy Steve.
- 2:06Do we gave a nickname? Was it Savvy Steve? Savvy Steve? That's
- 2:08the one. He's always have the new technology, a first adopter of technology
- 2:12or an early adopter of tech? Was he an earlier doctor of Halloween in
- 2:15Australia as well? Dude loves Halloween. I love who doesn't love Halloween?
- 2:19I feel like every kid in the nineties always dreamed of having Halloween. But
- 2:22our parents are like ecs an American thing. Yes, our parents were grumps
- 2:27and very parochially and very like you're in Australia. We don't do Halloween in
- 2:30Australia. It used to bother me so much. Yeah, but my good
- 2:36buddy Steve Yep goes all out. He has a very nice house and a
- 2:39very nice part of town and he turns it into an absolute spook house.
- 2:45What does he do, like a decorations? Yeah, yeah, all mantor
- 2:46decoration outside in his yard and you know, he sort of set up a
- 2:51regular loop that was playing, you know Google Mark, you know the Wednesday
- 2:55show. Yeah, everybody, I've not seen it, but so many Wednesday
- 2:59Adams this year. There are a lot of Wednesdays out there. Some were
- 3:02little girls and it was delightful. Some were teenage girls and it was confusing
- 3:08and it was troubling because I don't want to go to jail. Uh.
- 3:15That was it was very nice. I went over and helped out Steve because
- 3:19yeah, there was there were a lot of Tricker treaders on the street.
- 3:21And as I said, he goes all out. He gets in a lot
- 3:23of Halloween candy, puts the other these terrific gift bags. I mean,
- 3:28kids come to the door and expect, oh it's a fantastic Snickers and it's
- 3:31like he's a gift bag full of forlies. Holy Molly. And they all
- 3:37love the house so and they all love the all the spooky stuff. So
- 3:39did you hand out the candy? I did? Yes, I say candy.
- 3:43It's candy, it's lollies, lollies. Yeah. I mean Alic's been
- 3:46saying candy. So he watched so many American shows, you know. But
- 3:49kids now, even like myself, I feel like, will we the first
- 3:51generation like my generation in the nineties raised on American television? Oh no no,
- 3:57But I think when I was growing up, saying the seventies and early
- 4:00eighties, there was still enough Australian television and I guess Australian culture racism out
- 4:06there. Kids in the country, Hey dad, oh by speaking of there
- 4:13getting into treble there. Yeah, you would go down the shop and you
- 4:17would ask for, you know, twenty cents with a mixed lollies as opposed
- 4:20to hey, you get any candy that would sort of look at you like
- 4:23you're a weird of That was the game. I still remember going down and
- 4:26getting like fifty cents worth of mixed lawyes, AND's like I have two lips
- 4:29one green jelly baby. The first on account is like, motherfucker, you
- 4:35know you're in trouble when you're that's right, I've got fifty cents. I'm
- 4:39getting out of the big bag. Yeah, oh dear, the cost of
- 4:43living has just put the guybosh on all that. But you're getting a bag
- 4:46of most lawieres. Was just an absolute treat. And this is the kind
- 4:48of treat that that these kids who went to Steve's Halloween spook House got last
- 4:54night. So that was great, it was, It was really really nice.
- 4:55I tried to last minute a little. Can you tell me your story
- 4:59for you finish your story and I'll take what I was gonna do. Oh
- 5:00okay. The other thing is we mentioned there were a lot of Wednesday Adams
- 5:03out there. There are a lot of trade's out there. Now this might
- 5:08have been like a I think it was just dass knock enough from work.
- 5:10It wasn't actually or the workplace particularly, you know, building sites are getting
- 5:17a lot more inclusive because it was essentially I saw a lot of teenage girls
- 5:21dressed as trade's, like with the high viz and maybe that is what's joining
- 5:26the pandaverse and now like you know what we need to do learn how to
- 5:29do shit well lose daughter Audrey the Lovely Louise's daughter. It was one of
- 5:34these. She was, you know, Freddie rand in a high vis vest
- 5:38and also brought a pair of those trades undies and was like wearing the moutside
- 5:42of dants. So sorry, that's got probably gonna be embarrassing for her.
- 5:46But I did see our man Charlie Clawson from TOFOP and other amazing podcasts.
- 5:53Two guys, one cup? Is that what it is? I believe?
- 5:55So yeah, yeah, yeah, I've not listened to apologies Charlie, but
- 5:58did see him say all your kids out there dress for Halloween in your footy
- 6:00gear. You need to have a good art look at yourself. And I
- 6:01was like, Alie, it was considering. I'm like, what's roving your
- 6:04footing gear? It's like your team might be a horror show, buddy borrow.
- 6:10Charlie follows the saint look. He may well have been of a mind
- 6:15that's like, are you gonna put on a costume for Halloween? Put on
- 6:17a costume for Halloween as opposed to borrowing your dad's or your mom's high viz
- 6:24or is getting it your footy jumper? Well maybe you should consider that when
- 6:27he dresses up a disgrunted old man hiding behind a Twitter profile. What a
- 6:31burn from the course. We love Charlie great Man. We're gonna have them
- 6:34on the show again, hopefully someday. Hopefully, someday I'll get to go
- 6:36on to his show again one day, probably not after that, thanks a
- 6:40much. But you were about to say about last night's Halloween, because when
- 6:43you were recording this on the first of November, so after Halloween, Yeah,
- 6:46not as spooky. What spooky has seen the mess you have to clean
- 6:49up the day after. That's that's the spooky part of today. First,
- 6:53it's the first day of the month. It is indeed new Billboard day listeners
- 6:58will be able to tell from the lack of pauses and edits and all that
- 7:02kind of stuff. The dann on our are in the same room again,
- 7:04We're stund to make every show in the same room. I think. Moving
- 7:08forward, yeah, I've overcome my fear of the road cast, but still,
- 7:13and it was a genuine fear I was. I was, generally so
- 7:15we recorded the first edition of the movie guys we've mitched in like years last
- 7:18Monday. I think it was well a couple of nights ago. Couple nights
- 7:21ago. Yeah, so today is Wednesdays. Yeah, record the the review
- 7:26of the Fog for the movie Guys, which is available on our Patreon.
- 7:29If you're not a member of our patreon, you should be. Yeah.
- 7:31And I was like, Guys, I can't hear Poppy or something that you
- 7:33could hear us. The microphone was plugged in and you had the roadcastle pluged
- 7:38into the laptop. And normally when you plugged roadcast into the laptop, we
- 7:41can't explain why, it just makes everything stop working right correct, but it
- 7:44was not doing it this time. And then you still had your headphones connected
- 7:46to your laptop and I was like, you know, it's a bit of
- 7:48a delay. And I was like, oh, there's a there's an echo.
- 7:50And I was like yeah, but if the roadcast is working, then
- 7:55on your laptop, just use the headphones on the roadcast. You're like,
- 7:57I'm not doing nothing, and I was like, there was this fear.
- 8:00I'm not unplugging the headphones. I'm I'm not fucking with it. That's exactly
- 8:03what I said, because honestly, when this started to happen, when we
- 8:09had this technical issue, I could feel you getting frustrated was getting me frustrated
- 8:15and also just no, I wasn't frustrated. I was just confused. I'm
- 8:18like, I can't work out why this is happening. It doesn't make sense
- 8:22because it happened to you as well, didn't It happened to me once and
- 8:24then I fixed it, And it's happened to me to a friend of the
- 8:26show, elliot Jo O'Neil once and he did the same thing I did and
- 8:28it fixed it straight away. And You're like, I'm doing this and it's
- 8:31not working. I'm like, yeah, okay, So that means you're getting
- 8:37frustrated that not at you though, just at the situation. Well, I'm
- 8:41part of the situation. But it's better being in the same room it is.
- 8:45Yeah, don't you let us know you guys. Simpson's the mailback at
- 8:48gmail dot com. Have you know the last couple of shows have been more
- 8:50energetic and more free flowing and tangent filled. It's because I'm on meth.
- 8:56Yeah, that's well, he is from Geelong. We're here though, to
- 8:58talk about the front door. Yes, talking about Halloween and your front door,
- 9:01which is a mess at the moment. Yeah, this either looks like
- 9:07Halloween or a crime scene. Bones and shit everywhere. So what I was
- 9:11like, I was like, you know what, I was gonna do my
- 9:13spooky mask out and put a blanket up over the front and sad and to
- 9:16review down and spook the shit out of kids when they come around the front,
- 9:18because we've got like a pillar. After all, the kids have been
- 9:20spoken the shit out of your house by kicking in your gart no, right,
- 9:24yeah, anyway, so I'll try to keet this blanket up. And
- 9:26for some reason, it's just been so windy lately, right and yesterday I
- 9:30put it up in the wind, just like I'll try and hold it down
- 9:33with chairs. It didn't really work. Rocks didn't really work. And I
- 9:37was like, well, I'll put some sticky tape on there as well,
- 9:39try to like keep this blanket up on the front little porch area. I
- 9:41go to pick up Alliott, come back and the sheets halfway down the street
- 9:45and it's just shit everywhere. I was like, well, it looks like
- 9:48I'm just getting the Scooby Doo out for that again. So yeah, so
- 9:52I tried to do. But next year what I want to do is,
- 9:54as I said, I've got like that pillar at the front and you can
- 9:56sort of make people come around the pillar to come into the front porch if
- 9:58you block off the front entrance. Well, so I'm going to have like
- 10:01an enter if you dare, and I'm going to actually scare kids. But
- 10:05do you feel bad about scaring kids now? Talloween's part of the fun,
- 10:07right, Nicholas like, I don't scare the kids, and I was like,
- 10:09like them, Well, there's a difference between traumatizing and a little bit
- 10:13of a I said, enter if you dare. And again, one other
- 10:20thing that you find folks should know. I don't know if this is providing
- 10:24too much of a glimpse behind the curtain, but we're going to be recording
- 10:26two episodes back to back today. Yeah, we're getting because basically one of
- 10:30the pictures for Patreon is that we if you're a supporter of ours, you
- 10:33get the show a week early. And since we've been back from England,
- 10:35it's just been one thing af from another, and we haven't You've basically been
- 10:39getting on the free feed the show at the same time a few hours later,
- 10:41but pretty much the same day as the Patreon but now supporters so once
- 10:45again going to get the show a week early, which is why we're doing
- 10:46the back to back now. Indeed, and the reason I mentioned that is
- 10:48because you know, we're about to talk about ice cream Marjie, but then
- 10:52after that we're going to do the It's not the Horde couple, the ha
- 10:56Horde couple, and the b plot in that has is skipping ahead a little
- 11:01bit. Homer reading Lisa a Harry Potter knockoff novel that ends with spoiler the
- 11:07death of a certain character, Gray Stash. That was one of my tribute
- 11:09questions. Actually, no, it was one of my trivia questions early on,
- 11:13and then it was kind of like, it's pretty obvious. So they're
- 11:15repeating this guy's name a lot. What color is Marge's hair? You think,
- 11:18oh, they're only going to say this once. I'll be able to
- 11:20catch the end of it. And it was like they keep saying it,
- 11:22Yeah, they keep saying it. But I did like that be plot.
- 11:26I think it's even more relatable now with binge watching shows. Oh absolutely,
- 11:30I can't wait to get into that one. Yeah, but yeah, it
- 11:33sort of talks about how Homer's trying to basically not traumatize Lisa by covering up
- 11:37this the death of this character. But you need that in fiction, I
- 11:43think. And we'll talk about that more. And we like the couple and
- 11:46I almost saw it as sort of like block your ears kids cut the Sander
- 11:50situation, where it's just like, I'm just gonna you know, she said
- 11:52it's gonna be end of her childhood and I like that. Homer thought ahead
- 11:54and went, I don't know, Okay, I'm not going to ruin this
- 11:56for her, you know. And he created this ending not because he was
- 12:00trying to be a dick about it. No, he created his ending for
- 12:03himself. It was all about Jamie's bond and Start wasn'ting with that. Big
- 12:05was trying to protect her, and I was like, this is nice.
- 12:07That's not touched. Yes, yeah, but nothing about that episode. We
- 12:09hand to talk about ice Cream of Margie right. This episode was written by
- 12:13Carolyn Amine, and I'm speaking to Carolyn tomorrow. I was about to say
- 12:16a friend of the pod, yeah for four Finger Discount Extra and legitimate friend
- 12:18of the Pods. Supposed to me just being snargy and trying to get people
- 12:22on board. She'll she'll be on next week's episode of four Finger Discount Extra.
- 12:26Basically she has written someone. When you think of post Golden Euro she's
- 12:31written the best episodes. It might be like she wrote hallowin of Horror.
- 12:35She wrote this episode as well. She wrote the one that I uh there
- 12:37was like two three weeks ago, which made me genuinely cry. One of
- 12:39the new episodes. I I can't recall what was the top of my head,
- 12:43but she wrote this episode here. And I haven't spoken to you about
- 12:46this episode, but and I know this episode has a they had to make
- 12:50another margin, an arguing episode, but I think the way they that Karen
- 12:54handled that that in this episode is so much more superior to the way they've
- 12:58handled in previous episodes. And that it wasn't Homer being a dick to cause
- 13:03the situation right, and once it had happened, he did all he could
- 13:07to It's kind of like the episode where they stuck the landing and they ended
- 13:11up with Homer saying I'm driving home drunk and Mars just accepted it. He
- 13:15did everything he could to make it up to her, and his reasonings behind
- 13:18it made sense. I didn't think Home was at all, in any way
- 13:22really a dick in this episode. I think he certainly had some dickish moments.
- 13:26Yeah, but in the March situation, in what way was what he
- 13:31did was crashing into the popsicles. It wasn't being a dick. He just
- 13:33he fucked up. It was just it was a buffoon fuck up. That
- 13:35wasn't him going out of his way to be selfish. He just he was
- 13:39trying to get there in time. Yeah, and made a wrong choice.
- 13:41That's true. There was a bit of sort of punch telegraphing where you could
- 13:48you could see it and hear it when Marge's like, now it's at three
- 13:52o'clock home, are you going to be here? Right? And it's like,
- 13:54well, he's certainly not going to be here. Why is that going
- 13:56to be the case? At least it wasn't because he tried to get pissed
- 14:00at most instead or something. It was shit, I was trying to make
- 14:03more money for the family. Oh shit, I'm late, I better get
- 14:05home. And he did see an opportunity and decided to take it, and
- 14:09it wasn't he's making money. Well, that's true, and circumstances did did
- 14:13conspire against him, So yeah, that's understandable. But at the same time,
- 14:16m I've written down. They didn't. They didn't need the line about
- 14:20where he says something along the lines of excuse me for having enormous flaws and
- 14:26that I don't work on Yeah's. That didn't fit this because I was like,
- 14:30the that's the end of the of the break right. He came out
- 14:33from commercials him saying, look, I'm sorry, Marge. You know I
- 14:35did this because I was trying to make more money for you. And the
- 14:37best thing about me doing this was I got to bring home the sticks and
- 14:41seeing you smile when you were working this other stuff. And I was like,
- 14:43why did you have him say that line? Then? Don't point out
- 14:46how horrible this character has been in recent episodes. Just stick the landing.
- 14:52Maybe that's what angered Slash. Upset me about it because I've written down,
- 14:56Oh fuck off with these apologies. It makes me think less of Homer and
- 14:58mar Yeah, because they followed up from the commercial. It wasn't needed because
- 15:03he wasn't being a dick after. It wasn't like after the commercial was like,
- 15:05well scoo you, Marge. All I was trying to do is help
- 15:09this family. Well, if you don't like it, then I'm out of
- 15:09here. It was like, look, Marge, I'm really sorry. Can
- 15:13you please listen and let me explain why this happened. I think initially,
- 15:16when he's on the other side of the bedroom door and trying to explain and
- 15:18all that, you know, it wasn't really ringing true to me. At
- 15:22least it wasn't until he started taking the polaroids and sliding them under the door
- 15:26to show me how sad he was. But I feel like, even I
- 15:31know what you're saying with him, He's like, you want to come cook
- 15:31dinner? I really like lasagna? Yeah I would. That could be taken
- 15:35out of a season seven episodes. It doesn't feel all that dickish. Feels
- 15:41pretty dickish to me, does it. Yeah? Yeah, I mean,
- 15:43but Homer's doesn't. Look at the episode where Homer, where Kirk and Luan
- 15:48split up, right, let's just go back to a Homer and Marge split
- 15:50up angle, right. She leaves him hot dogs throwing in the fridge because
- 15:54he's just he's being a dick and he comes home and just expects him to
- 15:56cook for him. So he's always been this way. It's not like this
- 16:00is a new trait of Homer. I guess not. I know, yeah,
- 16:02but it just feels like we're getting sort of more and more of the
- 16:06same thing lately. And even when it's presented with a little bit more nuanced
- 16:11and sensitivity, like front of the Pod Caroline has here, I don't know,
- 16:15it still feels like, yeah, but we're traveling down the same road,
- 16:18even if the road, even if the ride's a little smoother this time,
- 16:22if you know what I mean. I don't think this episode needed the
- 16:25Homer March split up angle. I would have liked to a different, different
- 16:27take this in a different direction, yeah, because they were working so well
- 16:30as a team. It was, and it wasn't like the carpentry episode where
- 16:34he was benefiting from her hard work. They were both doing because he I
- 16:38really liked the ice cream angle, and I like that she explained why he
- 16:41wasn't he got fired at least at least they explained he got fired right so
- 16:44we had the time to do it, and they gave me he had the
- 16:45severance pace you could buy the ice cream truck and things like that. And
- 16:48it does seem like a selfish thing at first because he's using his money,
- 16:52but he's good at his job. Well yeah, yeah, I mean this
- 16:56manufactured conflict. At the very end with ruining Marge's art exhibition, it just
- 17:03felt like, oh, yeah, we're gonna have to introduce some element of
- 17:07risk or what's gonna happen or whatever, even though we sort of know how
- 17:11it is going to wrap up. I don't know. It just didn't sit
- 17:15all that well with me. No, I wasn't throwing tomatoes at the television
- 17:18or anything like that. I just did feel it feel a little bit like
- 17:22in my notes, I literally had again with the Homer and Marge splitting up
- 17:26angle. Maybe he could have gone and I guess this kind of rings too
- 17:30true to the Pretzel episode. But maybe Homer gets in trouble for something with
- 17:33the mafia or they know, they tell you you can't do it anymore,
- 17:36and then that way he can't supply the sticks is off. I think it
- 17:38needs some external yeah hazard to Homer in Marge's relationship or the other ice cream
- 17:47guys in Springfield. It's like, hey, what are you doing? Yeah?
- 17:48Exactly Like there's a movie I love, a very low key Scottish comedy
- 17:56actually called comfort and joy which are the comforting it is and joyful it is
- 18:00both of those things. I mean, it sounds Christmas and it is kind
- 18:03of set at Christmas, and I tend to watch it around that time.
- 18:07But the just over this, you've got this sort of breakfast DJ who you
- 18:14love the idea of being in a DJ. I feel like that's your dream
- 18:15life that you just never got to experience. It is even during the fog,
- 18:18you're like, Stevie, that's my job, man, that should have
- 18:21been me, small coastal town station. Live with the dream. It's fantastic
- 18:26sort of doing it via podcasting now, but it gets caught up in the
- 18:30in this mob war between two like mister Softy ice cream vendors, and they're
- 18:36basically using mafia techniques on each other. Track it down, if you can
- 18:40find it, it could have been maybe you could have gone. I'm not
- 18:41saying this episode needed to be changed, but maybe you could have as an
- 18:45alternative. The weather gets cold, no one wants to buy I scream in
- 18:47your yeah, and Homer, I know, does something to try and build
- 18:51up the sales or I don't know. So then he needs again that's the
- 18:53that's the Pretsal episode against he needs the mafia's help to help fund him so
- 18:56he can get more sticks out. I don't know, but I just didn't
- 19:00at first when we had Homer Marge arguing and Home was such a dick about
- 19:03it. In that moment, I was like, Oh, no, Caroline,
- 19:07You're usually better than this. But I thought, because if you think
- 19:08if he didn't react that way in that scene, do you think you would
- 19:11have cared as much about the Marge being annoyed at homework? It didn't split
- 19:15up right, No. I thought her anger towards him was a little bit
- 19:19unfair, to be honest, because it's not he did it deliberately. She
- 19:22gave him no chance to explain him. So I understand the frustration, but
- 19:26it's not like he went out of his way too fuck it up for it.
- 19:27It's like you destroyed my dreams that It's like. Look to Caroline's credits,
- 19:33and I'm not just saying this because she's on the show next week.
- 19:34It might be listening to this episode. But I think she did a very
- 19:41good job of sort of laying the groundwork for Marge feeling a bit underappreciated,
- 19:45a little unfulfilled by way of the open show and all these women who were
- 19:51achieving all this great stuff, and by the way, that was also a
- 19:53pretty good, pretty neat thing about she sort of pre predicted the whole girl
- 19:59boss lega. She phenomenal legacy and munch, which I thought pedoph well at
- 20:03the end with the with the legawi was a lega. We Yeah, actually
- 20:07that was really nice. So again I'm not blowing smoky Carolyn. That was
- 20:11actually really well mane Okay, Karen is honestly my favorite writer post gold Near
- 20:15of the Simpsons. And you know what's incredibley, I'm going to bring this
- 20:17up in that conversation. I could not believe this, right she was until
- 20:22I think it's like I look at my notes, like season seventeen or something
- 20:25something like that. It's been crazy like that, despite the pilot and one
- 20:29episode in season two, I think it's three eyes, two eyes whatever it
- 20:32is the one that the fish oh no, no, yeah, Mohoma has
- 20:34the fugu. I think besides those those two episodes, the pilot and that
- 20:37one there, Carolyn Amina is the only female to write to have a solo
- 20:42credit on a Simpsons episode who isn't related to as either by being a sister
- 20:48or married to a male staff member until like season seventeen. That is fucking
- 20:52wild. Right, that is a bit wild. They did not hire,
- 20:55they did not give a solo writing credit to a female who wasn't related to
- 20:59a staffman. That's mental that does not get discussed often enough. Lift your
- 21:03game, Well they have, they have. It's only to like maybe like
- 21:07twenty eighteen that they started to see a difference. But I'm like, that's
- 21:11a huge stat right, it is seventeen seasons and only one episode that by
- 21:17a woman who the two at the start, yes, who wasn't related.
- 21:21By being like who wasn't in the bow case, that's that's not cool.
- 21:26I really would love to hear her thoughts on that, because I just think
- 21:29it's crazy. Tune in for that episode. Yes, that's what I'm going
- 21:32to bring up in our my interview with Karen on next week's episode of four.
- 21:36Depending wherever you listen to if you're a patron, will be next week
- 21:38if you're not somewhere down the load somewhere. Yeah, but I thought that
- 21:42that laid the groundwork really well for Marge feeling gum, Yeah, unfulfilled,
- 21:48and yeah, she's found this outlet and she's found and she's getting validation and
- 21:52appreciation for it and for it to be wrecked in the way that it was.
- 21:56Look, I think it justifies her response because yeah, I don't think
- 22:00it's it's a natural knee jerk reaction to having something you've built up broken down.
- 22:04Yeah, very quickly. So she's great at what writing the March episodes,
- 22:08Carolyn min I'm looking at for her episodes here, she wrote little Big
- 22:11Mum, right, which is where Marge hurts her legs and she's it's a
- 22:15scheme. She came up with super sexy Fanders. So she also wrote Night
- 22:21of the Dolphin, the treos of horror with the Dolphin episode like that one's
- 22:23great triple threat. She wrote your episode triple threat that she's got a big
- 22:30fan in Hernhill. Yeah, a star is torn the Lisa home so that
- 22:33we liked where he was her coaches. But yeah, and this is the
- 22:37next one, ice Cream of Margie. But just the one she wrote recently,
- 22:41What was it? This is the one that got you tearing up?
- 22:44Yeah, it's not on the list here they haven't updated a Wikipedia page.
- 22:47Damn you all right, Simpsons season thirty five. I apologies Karen if not
- 22:51remember it off by heart, but it is a fantastic episode. I highly.
- 22:53Everyone going and watching it is called a mid Childhood Night's Dream, and
- 22:57if you are a parent of a kid who is just about to enter kindergarten,
- 23:00you will watch it and you will cry your eyes out. I'm none
- 23:03of those things. So what set up the story was that she was asked
- 23:07during a panel where the Simpsons cars were all part of this panel, which
- 23:11was hosted by Yardley Smith during COVID right, they sort of did over zoom
- 23:14and Yardly said, what advice would you give Marge Carolyn, as the mother
- 23:18of a ten year old boy? What would you give it to her?
- 23:19And she couldn't think of anything at the time. Then over time she's learnt
- 23:22that cherish every moment because ten years old is when your boys don't want you
- 23:26to hug them anymore. And that's sort of like the theme of this episode
- 23:30of Marge fearing losing her child because he's not a child anymore. It's beautiful,
- 23:34honestly. Check it out a Mid Childhood Nights stream. It'll be available
- 23:37today actually and two Australians on Disney Plus because we're about two or three weeks
- 23:41behind. But every Wednesday now on Disney Plus we got new episodes so mid
- 23:45Childhood Nights Dream will be airing today, So we'll be aboule right now on
- 23:48Disney Plus as you listen to this, so check it out. All right.
- 23:49So another thing I want to mention about this episode was the idea of
- 23:53being the ice cream man, don't lie. It's one of those jobs we've
- 23:56always pondered what would that be like, trying around like what's the job for
- 24:00you? Where've just like, you know, you see the guy at Eastern
- 24:03Beach here in Jeelong driving the Thomas the Tank and you're like, what a
- 24:06job just driving Thomas up and down the beach. Yeah. Yeah, there's
- 24:11the the famous train in Melbourne puffing Billy. Yeah, it's sort of like
- 24:15a mini train. Just bring enjoy. Yeah, because yeah, no one's
- 24:18up. No one's upset when they see the ice crim No, no one's
- 24:22upset when they're riding little Thomas the Tank engine on the Gelong waterfront. Ye,
- 24:26which I looked at him like have they paid the rights for this?
- 24:27Because this is this is blatant Clayton copyright, but it's been there forever.
- 24:33It's probably like the Polish knockoff version Tomash. Yeah. Well I saw I
- 24:37think it was last year, maybe the year before. Mo've even been during
- 24:40COVID. Actually they was selling the business. Oh and they sold it,
- 24:45and I think it was like one hundred and thirty thousand. I was like,
- 24:47it seems like a lot, but think of how much money you make
- 24:49doing this. True, I think it's like seven dollars per person a ride.
- 24:53That fucking thing's full every time it goes up and down the beach.
- 24:56It's like you make it one hundred bucks a ride, mate. True,
- 25:00it's a fuel driven it's not electric vehicle. Is this? I have no
- 25:03idea what could be electric? I'm just wondering what your overhead would be like.
- 25:06The cats would definitely claim something that money, right, Oh yeah,
- 25:11of course hand gestures signifying money. Great audio, Well done, guy,
- 25:17we're quite how long how long you've been podcasts? I went about three seconds
- 25:19quite there, and all the fans like, what are you talking about?
- 25:25Oh God? I could feel the reflex because I was about to say it
- 25:27as well. I can feel on the shoulders they're about to go. There's
- 25:30I thought. It was also very early two thousands, very nostalgic for me,
- 25:34this episode with the pimp my ride. I was about to say,
- 25:37this is the most two thousands episode that ever two thousand ALIG, which I
- 25:41thought was awesome. I really liked that. I mean, it's just it
- 25:44was such a flashback to my childhood. O. My childhood, but like
- 25:45my early teens was just like absolutely the li G Show was everything. Mate
- 25:51was marvelous. But I mean doing those two things back to back with all
- 25:56the Pimp My Ride for sort of visuals and get your freak on playing Break
- 26:00One by the great Missy Elliott and then yeah, going to the LG things
- 26:03like but but you know, it feels dated. But also those things are
- 26:08so iconic that I don't feel like it feels data in the negative way like
- 26:14it kind of does. But like if you live through that year, you
- 26:15just like, holy shit, true true. I mean, I don't know.
- 26:19I've talked about the nostalgia cycle and how it's usually maybe twenty years when
- 26:23you after something happens that you start to go, ah, you really appreciate
- 26:27it, unless of course it was really part of your tire. Because Pip
- 26:33My Ride was one of those reality shows that will always be fun to watch
- 26:36in my opinion, like it's never going to feel out of date, like
- 26:37watching exhibit just fix up carps. Apparently there was an episode where they juiced
- 26:44up a Yeah, I've never seen that one. And also the l G.
- 26:48I haven't gone backing movies at Alig for a long time. It probably
- 26:51wouldn't work as well today. I don't think a lot of it, although
- 26:56just does bor it stand up today. It does. Actually what he's meant
- 27:00to be just ridiculous that he is, and he's also basically hanging other people
- 27:03out to dry just by them revealing their own sort of prejudices and byes,
- 27:07and they got stuff by I know. I keep shilling the Netflix documentary Beckham,
- 27:12but there's a great bit on It's watched two episodes of it. Have
- 27:15you seen the bit where they actually are being interviewed by Alig No. I
- 27:19think Posha Ha's just had like their first son. That's a flashback one here.
- 27:23Yeah. Yeah, he's saying something about oh damn it. I forgot
- 27:26the exact game, but it's just a great bait and switch because they're talking
- 27:30about all right, so you know he's clearly he's not shitting his pants or
- 27:34something like that. Yeah, it must be fun leaving with David and Beckham
- 27:40to his credit sort of just takes it on the chin as he does.
- 27:42But I'm sorry, I really balls up that gay. But it's a you
- 27:45think you're talking about the baby shit and his nappies, but yeah, basically
- 27:48it's basically, oh, yeah, you've got this child. Oh, by
- 27:52the way, yes he's the child is David Beckham my favorite? What were
- 27:56your favorite moments from Ice Scream of Margie? Look? A few good visual
- 28:00gags. I really liked the ice cream scoop at the grave. Yeah,
- 28:06that was pretty neat. Yeah, so that was quite funny. I really
- 28:08liked Marge shooting the two six shoots. Yeah, on the e not the
- 28:14yard, the Texas the Texas billionaires helping her out with that thought, that
- 28:18was pretty neat. Some good one liners. Homer's joke about serving wood or
- 28:23giving wood, what a one liner, pretty racy. And a couple in
- 28:27the next one as well, the whole a couple. I was like,
- 28:30boy, oh boy, millhouse isn't in the millhouse one? Watching him,
- 28:33I was like, how did that sneak through? And Crusty's joke about one
- 28:40man Joe on Broadway one man wait to see it a true story? That's
- 28:44great. You just love Crussy saying true story, true story, and once
- 28:48again they've they've really gone all out with the soundtrack budget because a lot of
- 28:52music in this but they fit perfectly as well. They really fucking called it
- 28:56home. I looked driving down at the Hill with Money for Nothing playing.
- 29:00That's one of the greatest opening rifts of all time when it comes to rock
- 29:03music. He sort of is it better after hearing Sting saying I want or
- 29:08do you think just cutting into I think like that build up and it's like
- 29:11you need the build Yeah, you need the build I mean, it works
- 29:15pretty well by itself, but the build up is what makes it. They
- 29:18say it at Live Aid and Sting was there, so he did the Eye's
- 29:21fucking so cool. I think I saw Diastrates live around that. Yeah,
- 29:26yeah, I think that was one of the first concerts actually ever went to.
- 29:29I always loved their is it Walk of Life? You can't you can't
- 29:34not be smiling when listened to that. So yeah, pretty good band,
- 29:38Pretty good, Yeah, pretty good. But it just seems like a hopo
- 29:41who just picked up a guitar one day, and it's just like, look,
- 29:45he was so fucking good. Well, I thing, I mean it's
- 29:48This was unintended, but again part of the whole unified theory of four finger
- 29:51discount. I mentioned Comfort and Enjoy earlier. Yeah, it's by going named
- 29:55Bill Forsyth, who must have been pretty cool with Mark Knopfler because of Darstreids's
- 30:00music appears and Comfort and Joy. And also Mark Knopfler did the iconic and
- 30:04probably one of the best soundtrack cuts of all the time. He did the
- 30:08theme for Local hero Oh Shit Yeah, which is just a fantastic piece of
- 30:14music and one that I've just loved for decades and decades. So there we
- 30:17are it all times. But the other great piece of music, and this
- 30:21was, of course what we know from King of the Hill Feels So Good
- 30:25by Chuck Manji, an aptly named piece of music because it just makes you
- 30:29feel good when you hear it. It really does. It's just so mellow.
- 30:33It's it is the Dictionary definition of mellow. Now I get the feeling
- 30:37that you didn't like this scene, but I love the homo poloid scene.
- 30:41I love me. I liked that, okay, just the me. Last
- 30:45week was the cat Fanunds stands and it took the photo of the cat Foyd
- 30:47down the stands that like. I just love that he backed it up with
- 30:49a photo of the cat. It's a rule of three's plus three A.
- 30:53Yeah, it's just it's one of my favorite I say, post Golden ear
- 30:57at moments. I just this is an old time of me. I love
- 31:00this. I love this moment. I remember when I first I remember watched
- 31:02this when I first aired The Home of the ice Cream Truck. This is
- 31:06one of my favorites post season twelve episodes without this is definitely, in my
- 31:08opinion, the best episode of season eighteen so far. Okay, I wouldn't
- 31:12go quite that far, but I mean, what did you enjoy more from
- 31:15season eighteen? Do you think that's a really good question. I mean,
- 31:17we're seven episodes in. I'm gonna have to go back. I'll flick through
- 31:19here. The answer is not g I do. That was dog shit please
- 31:26some I don't hammer them, which was similar to this, except he was
- 31:29like mooching off of Marger's skills. Jasey and the Pussycats, I met the
- 31:32chef and the wife and the homer was pretty good. Yes, I think
- 31:33that was the one that was a good one. Yeah, and we've had
- 31:37I think this is and I quite like Mowen Lisa, but then that's this.
- 31:40This is better molor Lisa. I think it might because that last week
- 31:41felt like they built a story around guest stars. True. True, I
- 31:47get your points, Mo, and Lisa is very much in my in my
- 31:51wheelhouse though. So, I mean that's stuff that I enjoyed. I just
- 31:53always saw this as one of Homer's escapades that seemed believable. I just love
- 31:57it when he's good at something. True. Yeah, I mean I didn't
- 32:01feel like, you know, when he's going to do the arm contest,
- 32:05the armiss and just shit like that, And it's like, what was the
- 32:07point of this? Where this one felt like it made sense? It feels
- 32:10a little more organic. You're right. I mean one of the rules of
- 32:14reviewing is you review what you've got, not what you want it to be.
- 32:19And I must have met there are times when I was watching this,
- 32:21Gume, I would have done that a bit differently, or you should have
- 32:22maybe done it like that, Carolina me eh, but no, we got
- 32:28what we got, and look, you enjoyed it. I didn't enjoy it
- 32:30as much, but I didn't dislike it. Yeah, So this has always
- 32:34been one of my favorites for me. Yeah, I also loved Homer driving
- 32:37away from the kids. How do your kids want? Next question? You
- 32:43there eating the paste. Yes, it's trivia time, which means it is
- 32:46also shout out time for our beloved. We're going to call them our stonecutters

- 34:01hit you with your first question when you were playing. Is it called Cincinnati
- 34:06time Wasted? That's what they were playing. Yeah, but someone else called
- 34:09it roll o something. Yeah, it's a rollo polo. Yeah, what
- 34:14do you yell when you are passing the coffee? That she didn't write it
- 34:15down, No, that's what home. We got the two minutes of tickles
- 34:19for that's correct. You yell hot pot, hot pot. My first question
- 34:22is mister Burns punishes them for not being like working as a team. He
- 34:25tells me to do how many towels fifty twelve fifty twelves? Yes, would
- 34:30be so dizzy. In Professor Stein's book Life Beyond Wife, how about that's
- 34:36my question? How many examples are providing a name of the book? Oh,
- 34:38okay, sorry, how many examples are provided? Is it eight?
- 34:42It is indeed eight? Yeah. The shock of Opal again guy doing a
- 34:45face that no one has any idea what he's doing. So good it is
- 34:47audio. I thought he was about to have a fit. I mainly did
- 34:52that because it was one of my favorite moments. It didn't quite get to
- 34:54I love the reaction shot and then the call back to the reaction shot.
- 34:58It reminded me of Troy mclaurin's like the Dormit the Juicer. Uh, your
- 35:06next question, and well, my final one, because the Life Behind Wife
- 35:09was Beyond Wife was one of mine. I've got Snake is in the helicopter
- 35:14and he says there's a tie up on where Oh, I only got this
- 35:19because it was a trivia note on the Wikipedia page, because there's something,
- 35:22there's something to it. Was it like the one O two and the five
- 35:23oh four? Oh? It was not pretty close. It's like one I
- 35:27one slash four O five, so not you get the right numbers just lexi
- 35:32but with numbers one one four five interchange. Interchange between the one O one
- 35:37and the four O five freeways is actually in Sherman Oaks, California. There
- 35:39we go. Did you want another question me one more than we get into
- 35:44a review? Okay, that's fine. It's also related to that chase.
- 35:49How many other channels were showing the chase before ken Brookman got on board six
- 35:55five once again holding my hand, I thought, you wake it, Ads,
- 35:58you just hold up your hand. I'm like, say the number.
- 36:01Well, it was channels two, four, five, seven, and sixty
- 36:05three. There we go. The original edit of ice Cream of Margin with
- 36:07the Light Blue Hair was November twenty sixth, two thousand and six. By
- 36:10the way, yeah, we did an aborted recording where we started to as
- 36:16we mentioned, we it was a bit of a problem with the level,
- 36:20so we restarted. Because Dan it's a perfectionist, good on it, but
- 36:23he was saying, Hey, ice Cream of Jeanie with the light blue hair.
- 36:27That's a play on what And did I say ice cream of Genie?
- 36:30Oh? Well, Margie, but it's a play on a song called I
- 36:35Dream of Jeannie with the Light brown hair. Yes, And then they took
- 36:38that title and they turned into the show I Dream of Jeanie. That's dead.
- 36:44That the five o'clock or five thirty PM special in light Channel nine.
- 36:47Was it that a Brady Bunch or Bewitched? You know? The other great
- 36:51thing about living in the nineties and being a teenager, well a teenager in
- 36:54a twenty something you went out and partied all night watching that middle of them.
- 37:00They turned the I Dream of Genie theme into like a house track no
- 37:04ship. Yeah, but they also did it with the Sesame Street theme.
- 37:07Really and may have told me this that would have gone fucking off. It
- 37:10was to use the term of today's youth a banger. Well, it was
- 37:17very much tune, but they spelled it sesamease treats. And I was like,
- 37:23oh, no, ecstasy, Oh I get it. Sorry, that
- 37:30was my Russell Brand imitation. We can't do those these days. No,
- 37:35If you know he's your best friend. That's true. Do you want to
- 37:37hear a really great anecdote? And they got jokes lately. But the episode
- 37:47kicks off with Bart and he's wasting the cereals only eating the clown heads.
- 37:51Ali is very much like this, you know, just I think every kid
- 37:53has a little particular thing where they's like, I only want the red eminem
- 37:57you know what I mean. It loves red Emms's his favorite car. I'm
- 37:59like, just eat them. Was like, I just want the red one.
- 38:01Oh my god, He's going to be a rock star with his rider.
- 38:07I'm sorry jumping ahead to the next episode. Were to do after this,
- 38:08but one of my favorite bits in that in the upcoming episode The Whoreharde
- 38:13Couple is when Lisa finds like a marshmallow vein in the ice cream. I
- 38:17used to want to say this for that review. Maybe you could do that.
- 38:24It's my favorite moments from the next episode coming Attraction A. Stay tuned
- 38:32for the next something we teased them, We've teased them. No, no,
- 38:37we'll tease them. We'll do it in the next episode. Okay,
- 38:39fine, the next episode. Let's me teasing damn it. But the only
- 38:46it's the eyes of the lobsters, and Marge says, you know, your
- 38:50father works so hard to pay for all this cereal and everything, and it
- 38:53cuts to home. I just goofing off at work and it reminded me of
- 38:55just Ad FOURD. You know, just add for This is the kind of
- 38:58shit we do. We wouldn't necessarily run around on that chairs, but we
- 39:00just fucked around. This is why Ford closed in Well, we knew it
- 39:05was closing, so we're just like, what's the point in trying. We're
- 39:07going to lose their jobs anyway. That was literally the mentality was like they're
- 39:08gonna they can't fire us now basically unless like you do something drastically wrong,
- 39:13you can't be fired because of the union. And basically it's like we're going
- 39:17to do that job in two years. Let's just mooch as actually began,
- 39:20all right. So yeah, Dane's handing out pirated copies of The Fantastic four
- 39:23to Glenn the oh yeah, the Lovely Nerd. Yeah yeah, what did
- 39:28we mention that was that last week's show? Was it on four Finger of
- 39:30Discount or was it on one of our patron shows? Because this is a
- 39:32good reason to become a Patriot because we're talking. I can't remember what it
- 39:35was. I think it was last week's show. Why were we talking about
- 39:38the Fantastic Four? Why were we talking about them? That's a good question.
- 39:43We talk. We weren't talking about it during the south Park episode.
- 39:45No, no, no, it was before that. Yeah, because I've
- 39:47put it out there. It was one of our reviews. Listeners, we're
- 39:51churning out so much material for you. We're not sure if it was in
- 39:55the last four finger discount. But if it was, let us know in
- 39:58a mailbag. Let us know since the mail back at gm out dot com.
- 40:01But yeah, just four it was just it's just a his state.
- 40:04I was about to say it reminded you of pop culture, except you were
- 40:07actually doing work there. It wasn't really, But yeah, Rollo polo Cincinnati
- 40:12time ways. I'm sure there's a gag there that's just lost on us.
- 40:14The whole Cincinnati time waste. I don't really. I think Cincinnati is just
- 40:16a fun name to say. Maybe, yeah, I like saying it.
- 40:22But Homer, he gets the penalty in two minutes of tickles. I love
- 40:23that when they left, he'll still going, that's what happens. You been
- 40:27tickled you just you're in the zone. Yeah, residual tickle you feel like
- 40:30you've been tickled, Like Nicola. If I just got this to her,
- 40:32she just freaks out, like what his way my fingers is pretending I'm going
- 40:35to tickle her like Alliot as well. But I just hold my my fingers
- 40:37here. He's like, don't tickle me. And I hold my fingers in
- 40:39near his neck and he's like, stop it. Stop, I'm not touching
- 40:42you, stop it. Stop, help me. Good lord. I don't
- 40:50know. I mean, I guess I am. I haven't tickled in such
- 40:53a long term. Lou will always say, you know, like I'll be
- 40:58getting friendly. She like that's tickling, and I'm like, okay. A
- 41:02little side note. Last night, the kids weren't here right niggas went to
- 41:06bed a bit earlier because I was doing some editing, went to bed off
- 41:08in the bed. She was asleep. So I just sort of like sometimes
- 41:10sort of top on the back, say hey, bab me in bed or
- 41:12whatever. I went back. She was just like, eh, buzzed me
- 41:15away. I could fire. And then this morning I was like, you
- 41:16buzzed me. She was like, I can't be how we can with what
- 41:20I do when I'm asleep and I'm just She's like she doesn't remember it,
- 41:22but I'm not. You literally just like, hm, shoot, holy valid,
- 41:28don't touch me. Yeah, the birds arrives and yes, and he
- 41:32tells he fires something, doesn't he because he's distracted here with the ice Cream
- 41:37Man music. But that is literally just every single I'd know it's women.
- 41:40But man, if you hear the ice cream music, time stops for a
- 41:44second. Well, we're just talking about pop culture a moment ago. I
- 41:46mean, we would have the snack Man. What do we used to call
- 41:52it? Food truck or chuck wagon? Was it chuck wagon? Yeah?
- 42:00When that rocked up, was like all right to stop working. Everyone just
- 42:02stopped. Everyone stopped mid mid something and they had a nice selection, including
- 42:09fruit pass. They did have fruit pires, which I really enjoyed. I
- 42:13had a chicken salad roll. It's just like a weird flash. But now
- 42:15you have those things where it's like there was such a part of your life
- 42:16every day and you're like, I completely forgot about that. Oh yeah,
- 42:19you just want a food truck. It was like seven dollars for this kick
- 42:22ass chicken salad roll, to the point where they'd always sell out of him.
- 42:24I bottom every day. The food truck lady would always like keep it
- 42:28aside from me, and everyone would be like, motherfucker, I'd skipped the
- 42:30cue. She's like, I've got it here for you, and everyone's like,
- 42:34we'll lineing out. Membership has its privilege, Yeah, get in line.
- 42:38But yeah, so yeah, that was a good good memories food trucks.
- 42:42Yeah, but you gets distracted by the by the music, thinks mister
- 42:45Burns is an ice cream mix him gets fired As a result. Mister Burns
- 42:47yells at everybody else with being show boaters and makes them to fifty twelves.
- 42:51Then Homer. He runs to the ice cream man and it orders a butter
- 42:53crusted Choco Rocket. Yeah. Guy, I was like, guy really wants
- 42:58his ice cream? Guy? Really, that sounds dope. Butter crusted?
- 43:01Oh yeah, whats the butter crusted ice cream? Though? I don't know.
- 43:06I'm assuming its like butter scotch, but a scotch maybe. Yeah.
- 43:08I just love the the wacky names of ice creams though, that make him
- 43:12sound even more delicious. Chuckle rocket, But words like that. Whoever came
- 43:17up with these terms earned their money. Yeah, Like butterscotch. Oh,
- 43:22that sounds good. Caramel, cookies and cream. It sounds good to say.
- 43:27Yeah, it sounds good coming out of your mouth, and it feels
- 43:30even better going into you amount honey come, Oh my god, it wasn't
- 43:34an ice cream flavor. That's just the thing. That's the thing. It
- 43:37sounds delicious. Who put chocolate on top of it? Is absolute genius,
- 43:39mister Cabrey. The violet crumble, that's the nest. What's the crunchy and
- 43:45there's a crunchy. Yeah, Violet crumble is the one. Are you vi
- 43:47crumble man? Yes? Yeah. It's a real big debate about that Violet
- 43:51crumble or crunching. My dad prefers violet crumbles. I'm a violet crumble guy.
- 43:53Yeah. I mean there's not It's just a chocolate's on the outlet.
- 43:57That's the difference, really, isn't it. Oh No, I mean the
- 43:59crunch she is more sort of honey comby. Oh, it's a bit more
- 44:02sort of like bubbly. Yeah, whereas the stuff on the inside, the
- 44:07Violet crumbler is a bit more crunchy. If you were in Australia, I
- 44:12highly recommend just getting the like the home brand Honeycomb chocolate. Oh delicious.
- 44:17It's like two dollars a bag at which I believe it's Woolworths. Have it.
- 44:22Yeah, it's It's awesome if you're just going for a cheap chocolate honeycomb
- 44:25to do it. By the way, one of our learned patrons, I
- 44:30forgotten who it was, but they we were talking about woolies the other day
- 44:34and they talked about the American wool Works, which is kind of more like
- 44:37it seemed more like a kmart. Talia could have been Talia, but she's
- 44:40an American, but she's still was. It was Italian and records it was
- 44:45I think it was Tarlia and Riquez. I think they had woolworfs, right,
- 44:49yeah, yeah, that is not the Woolwors that we had. No,
- 44:52Our Woolworths is like a supermarket, yes, and this was more like
- 44:55a kmart. Yep, because Woolwors used to be called Safeway here in Australia.
- 45:00There's one left that still has a Safeway sign. I'm gonna go visit.
- 45:02Call it the last Popbuster. But you thanks for bringing that to attention
- 45:07and tell you omer there you are. What does my best costumer want today
- 45:12when butter Cristal Chuco rocket Please, I wish I had more customers like you.
- 45:16I'm barely scraping by. Yeah, this economy is tough on everyone.
- 45:22Change one hundred. Sure, that's one fifty one seventy five, two dollars
- 45:30ninety nine fifty ninety nine seventy five. But now the economy, it'd be
- 45:45tough. Women don't be shopping. No, women be careful when they be
- 45:50shopping. Get me more careful. What did like Safeway the other day in
- 45:52Portlake? Just you when you go to the Safeway just to call in.
- 45:57Gave a few things. It's like sixty dollars, And I'm like, how
- 46:00did this about? His sixty dollars? Yeah? I mean I only filled
- 46:04one bag and it was something like sixty seventy bucks. And I don't think
- 46:07I had too many high end items in there. It just I don't know
- 46:10what happens, man, It's weird. Yeah, the economy is for smarter
- 46:15and more ruthless people than us. But the old man who drives the ice
- 46:19cream truck, he has a heart attack, giving Homer all the change.
- 46:22What's his name? Max? That was gonna be one of my trivia questions,
- 46:24and then it was like they're showing his name again on the big graystone.
- 46:29It's Max's funeral, and the ice cream men are all dropping the dirt
- 46:31in with the scoops, as you said, which was a pretty nice touch.
- 46:36You must be Homer. Max told you about me. Oh yes,
- 46:40Max loved to talk about his work. How he bored me. And now
- 46:47I'm left with nothing but my lover and this worthless truck. Wait a minute,
- 46:54you don't want the truck. I need a job, you need money.
- 46:59I'm fly with servants. Pay you'll buy Max's truck. Why doesn't he
- 47:02needed Oh right, what the wife? Oh he bored me with his stories.
- 47:08They all have. Now is my lover And I thought that was actually
- 47:12pretty funny. And it's worthless truck, and Homer agrees, you know,
- 47:15to buy it with his severance pays. You know you need to get rid
- 47:19of this truck. I want a truck off with the money. Blah blah
- 47:21blah. He buys it and he shows the kids, and I just like
- 47:23this next three minutes with the get your freak on and just the it just
- 47:27flashbacks to pit my ride. It was one of those. It was like
- 47:29the one of the earlier reality shows and MTV wasn't it before it really had
- 47:32a hand, Yeah, because you had pit my Ride Remember punked Ashton That
- 47:38was another big one. Jack Ass was I guess it was kind of reaction
- 47:40with that. Was that on MTV? It wasn't TV? Yeah, Well,
- 47:44the early MTV reality shows were a lot of fun, and then it
- 47:46just just just became guys picking a girl at eight and just the same ship
- 47:51over and over again, just kind of like you know, Rock of Love
- 47:53and all those useless I know you don't you have all those useless shows?
- 47:59Certainly do Did you watch the Milf one? Yeah, Milk Manner, Yeah,
- 48:02I heard it was all right, it was so bad it was good.
- 48:06Yeah, okay. I thought the funniest thing was and I talked about
- 48:09this with some film nerd buddies on social media. One of them shows up
- 48:14halfway through and I'm like, this one looks familiar. And it turns out
- 48:17that she was like the lead in a couple of the Nightmare of El Street
- 48:20movie. Oh wow, It's like, oh, now she's on Milf Maner.
- 48:23I wonder if she does like those twenty to one specials now, whether
- 48:25it say so and so from not marown elm Street or so and so from
- 48:29milf Maner. Well, what do you think a better claim to fame now?
- 48:30I think probably still Night Mari. Now, I don't have to do
- 48:32it in a second season manner. If I do, I'll watch it.
- 48:36Yeah, but this is where it gets stressed up in the most unusual way,
- 48:39much like ali G, which you know it's purely just a visual gag.
- 48:44But I got a kick out of it because in two thousand and six
- 48:45this was was Alig was still big. Yeah. Absolutely, I feel Alige
- 48:50maybe a little bit earlier. What two thousand and three ish Lig first call?
- 48:53I feel like I watched it before I finished high school. Alij LG
- 48:55felt very sort of turn of the six thousand. Yeah. When I first
- 48:59started, Wow, yeah, so it was three so finish in two thousand
- 49:01and three. I didn't realize it was in that early. I wasn't allowed
- 49:04to watch ust to Catha go to my mate's place to watch it. It's
- 49:06read ninety two percent on Rotten Tomatoes. So I guess people still enjoy it.
- 49:09But that was what really puts such a Barra con on the map,
- 49:12wasn't it? It did absolutely Yeah, there'd been no borrowed if there was
- 49:14no Ali g show. But yeah, so he's put on the ice creaman
- 49:17gear and he's now officially an ice cream man March. Meanwhile, he is
- 49:21watching Opel Welcome back Today. We're celebrating women who didn't waste their lives being
- 49:27mommies. Professor Stein tell us about your book Life Beyond Wife. Well,
- 49:32Opal, it's about women who want to breastfeed their own dreams and change the
- 49:37poopy diapers of fulfillment. I call it leaving your legas she does this book
- 49:46have any examples? Yes, eight. And as you were saying earlier,
- 49:51Opel's shot face and when they call back to it at the end, it
- 49:55was so good yep. And as I call it, munchie, she just
- 50:00feels down about herself. Now, look, were they show just designed to
- 50:01make people feel bad for being housewives? I don't think so. No,
- 50:05because did they empower housewives? It's like or they just empowered the women in
- 50:10general? Because I never watched Oprah. But what was the point of the
- 50:14Oprah Show? Was it? It was a bit of everything. Really.
- 50:20She seemed to me growing up, she was the one who used to get
- 50:22all the big name interviews, and I think she you know, she's there's
- 50:24a reason Oprah Winfrey is Oprah Winfrey. I mean she's very like you must
- 50:28be likable, yeah, and a very empathetic presence, but also a pretty
- 50:32good journalist. I mean she started as a journal but before bullship became a
- 50:37I don't know, what do you call it, a talk show host.
- 50:39I felt like she was running the world for a while. But like,
- 50:42you don't hear about her anymore? Does she still do the odd special here
- 50:45and there. I think she's reached that stage where it's kind of like,
- 50:47look, Oprah's doing stuff and you know, we don't even need to talk
- 50:51about it because it's just happening. Yeah, okay, yeah, but yeah.
- 50:53I mean, for the best of my recolation, I never really watched
- 50:55it all that much, but it was like a combination of things. Occasionally,
- 50:59get like a celebrity interview, and you're right, it usually be some
- 51:01big name, or it would be this is the thing that everybody's talking about.
- 51:06Here's an expert, and let's talk about it and let's you know,
- 51:07get some people in and the moment for me that stands out for my childhood,
- 51:13maybe as even my teens. Was Tom Cruise on the couch. That's
- 51:15the standout for me, Like when he was dating Candy Holmes and it was
- 51:19like you're watching out. I was like, is this the most manufactured pis
- 51:22don't you've ever seen in your life? Or what? I think? Everything
- 51:24Tom Cruise does is very It's got one eye on the well, both eyes
- 51:30on the prize. Probably Yeah. So yeah, Oprah asked these questions,
- 51:34please, Tom's really happy let everybody know. But I think the other thing
- 51:42was Oprah was also very open about the hardship that she'd gone through in her
- 51:49life. In various ways. She acted as well. Right, she did.
- 51:52She was in the original Spielberg movie The Color Purple, and a few
- 51:55others. Didn't she get nominated for she did? Yeah? Yeah, been
- 52:00not a bad actors. I mean she's got a lot going for a repel
- 52:04winfree. She doesn't need me saying add a girl we mentioned her recently where
- 52:08it's just like you go to her show and it's just like, yeah,
- 52:13than it was what we're also saying, how much it would suck to be
- 52:17coming the next day. It's like do we get close to It's like went
- 52:22to give away cards once, how do you go back anything else? I
- 52:24feel like that I've forgotten her name from the from the retirement cas can I
- 52:29come to what was her name? I can't remember? Well, did we
- 52:31talk? It was that Dorothy? She won Best Supporting Actress. She win
- 52:36the Best Worning Actress. I believe the color purple or was it nominated Best
- 52:39Supporting Actress? Don't Best Supporting Actress. It would have been around eighty six
- 52:45six. Yeah, well I don't know eighty six looking up now, Angelica
- 52:47Hudson for Prizzi's Honor, Angelica Houston for Pritzy's Honor. Yeah, the Houston
- 52:52is Hustin. He has a Houston is okay. Yeah, we apologies to
- 52:54Angelica, but yeah, okay, she must be nominated for it Best Sporty
- 52:58Actor, which would have been a yes in ninety six, A big deal.
- 53:00Oh absolutely. I mean I think it was one of her first roles.
- 53:04Yeah, if not her first role. Yeah? Was she Oprah at
- 53:07that point? No, but she was becoming Oprah. She's coming up there.
- 53:09I mean, it was really in the early nineties that it was like,
- 53:13oh, okay, this person's someone to be reckoned with. I really
- 53:16liked this scene. Was very relatable for me with March feels down and she
- 53:20says, I've got the show for it is this clean floor, the dog
- 53:22runs through, the kids and they met their dirty show. Well, I'm
- 53:23like, this is literally my life. Now. You get to the point
- 53:25where I don't know if any of you other parents out there who are home
- 53:29during the day when you clean the house, do you have a mentality of
- 53:31what's the point? Like I prefer to clean when the kids are in bed
- 53:35because at least you can look at it for a few moments and go yeah,
- 53:39Because if you clean it during the day, I can't relax and watch
- 53:43TV if the house is a mess. Right, So if I clean house
- 53:45during the day, the kids come home, they mess it up, I've
- 53:47then got to clean it again. Now I'm just like, but I want
- 53:50Nickel to come home to It's like a catching I want Nickel to come home
- 53:52to a clean house. But I also don't have to clean the house twice.
- 53:54I'm just like, ah, so I do like the the bam minium,
- 53:58So I'm like, like, do the dishes, put the washing out,
- 54:00vacuum the floor, do those essentials. When it comes to actually getting
- 54:02shit put away, I'm like, I'm just going to do that, and
- 54:05Nicholas sort of She's lived this, she's lived this, she gets it.
- 54:07She's like, look, I don't care if I don't come home. If
- 54:09I come home in the house is messy, you know what I mean?
- 54:12Just as long as you're not in a shitting mood. I'm like, yes,
- 54:15as lowly, as long as you've made dinner. She walks and she's
- 54:16like, where's my dinner? That's the firs. She don't even kiss me
- 54:19anymore. She doesn't say hello, nothing. The first thing she says,
- 54:21where's my dinner? You need one of those. That's sad life. I
- 54:22live in here. I kiss the cook, don't made me tap the sun.
- 54:30But yes, so the kids have messed up. Marg's feeling down now.
- 54:32She feels like she's got nothing to show for her life except for the
- 54:35fact that she just cleaned the house. Meanwhile, it's really hot outside.
- 54:37The kids can't even decide what to do. Nothing come and bring up enough
- 54:40energy to punch Martin, but eventually does. Homie then arrives with the money
- 54:45for nothing playing and I love the disclaimer as well. Product contains neither ice
- 54:49nor kareem Ma contain trace elements of Mexican cheese. Do not consume unified.
- 54:57Everyone always uses this as a meme these days. But I'm a une tard.
- 55:00I'm not sold on this gag from Ralph. I'm a unitard. Yeah,
- 55:04I don't think much of it either, And it sort of came and
- 55:06went, I'm not not the R word, but even just insinuating that word,
- 55:09I don't like it. I just don't like it. Yeah, putting
- 55:12tard on the end as well, you're basically you're saying it without saying.
- 55:15Well, we mentioned it last week when they had Let's get it started for
- 55:17the for the book, for the for the products. Right, it's like,
- 55:20thank god they used the right version, which is a better version.
- 55:23It is a better version, as we've said. Yeah, but then there's
- 55:27a kid who once they eats a mars cans latose intolerant. I didn't mind
- 55:30Homer because they go too far with him making fun of his bracelet, right,
- 55:34but Homer just misunderstanding that he's meaning of intolerant. I didn't mind.
- 55:38That was okay, yeah, I mean, but then you have a boyfriend.
- 55:43I was like, oh, you didn't. You went too far.
- 55:44You went too far. Although I mean, I'm guessing your pale. And
- 55:50now my buddy Carolyn Amine sort of turned it back on itself with you know,
- 55:53like him calling out intolerance, then being intolerant, and then it's got
- 55:59a little cherry on top with like ooh, who's your worn't oh, doctor
- 56:00Osterburg, which I thought was actually bringing their gag. I initially thought,
- 56:06oh god, more gay panic than nothing, says mid two thousands, like
- 56:08this. We did it last week with Moe and Lisa when he caught it
- 56:12was literally the same joke when he made fun of Mo for having feelings the
- 56:15poems, oh you have what is it? You have feelings or whatever?
- 56:20And I'm like, oh, I don't like this at all. There's no
- 56:22need for it. But Homer, he is excited how to go to work,
- 56:24and I'm just like, it's kind of like me. It's just like,
- 56:25I'm excited to do my job now. For a long time I just
- 56:29wasn't. And Marge's, you know, she's glad. You know, look
- 56:34glad. You know what's glad me? And yeah, Marge says she was
- 56:38a legacy of some kind, and he, you know, she says,
- 56:43sorry of her life. He gets the popsicle, I get the stick and
- 56:45I was like, oh, that's a bit bleak but true in a sense.
- 56:47But she makes a structure of Maggie and a hammer says folk art's my
- 56:51favorite folk medium. And what was the whole Will America accept the British James
- 56:55Bond? Hadn't it been a British James Bond already at this point? Yeah?
- 56:59I think is he just an idiot? He's just an idiot? Okay,
- 57:02sorry when was this? Was this two thousand and six? Yeah,
- 57:06I don't know if they just announced Daniel Craig, but Pross oh yeah,
- 57:09yeah. But the other thing, I mean during when they announced Daniel Craig,
- 57:14and there were a few people going, oh, so angry they were.
- 57:17But he's blonde, It's like, and James blond. He doesn't he
- 57:28doesn't have doork here they did the gym, it does look like him,
- 57:31and it's like, and now a woman what money alls out? And then
- 57:39we get the montage of her making all the various structures, and I like
- 57:43that. Two weeks later with the postacles, yeah, and it's broke from
- 57:45doing his news report about the high speed chase, which was just a version
- 57:50just the reason to have him in the air. I guess, oh,
- 57:52there you habit people at the Sweet Morley Safer? Do I see a telegenic
- 57:57housewife making art out of popsicle sticks? This baby down? I smell soft?
- 58:02News man, I'd like to feature you on my award submitted segment,
- 58:08Kent Brockman's can Trusting People? Really? Do you think people would be interested
- 58:14in me? I do. I love play on words like that. I'm
- 58:17a big fan of that. At the same time, I'm always a little
- 58:22curious about the reporter whose general job is to do like the human interest story
- 58:28on Springfield how that? Seriously the intro of that where the sushi falls in
- 58:32the water is one of the greatest moments in the history. But I mean
- 58:38there's some there's a reporter on one of the commercial news stations here in Australia,
- 58:44which network it might be nine, but it's usually covering, like,
- 58:47you know, the very human interest stories, but very much making himself,
- 58:52kind of like didn't want to squirrel when a chicken chase after him? Could
- 58:54well be oh or was that Stevie Jacobs, the weather guy? I don't
- 58:59know. There was some chicken chase after a going like screamed and ran away
- 59:02literally squealed. I know there was one where someone was like holding up a
- 59:06turkey and the turkey maybe it was that would, which was kind of hilarious
- 59:10because birds are just terrifying of any kind. I've got crows living around my
- 59:16house, like they've basically taken up residents. Occasionally they'll be in the backyard
- 59:22crows. I'm not fucking with them. No, I've got the utmost respect
- 59:24for them. But I mean I came out one day and they were actually
- 59:28like feasting on the dead body. Even you mentioned this, actually yeah,
- 59:30and I was like whoa. I wasn't like, oh, get out of
- 59:34here. I was like, you do your thing, because you never know.
- 59:37I saw nothing. Whatever gets you through the night. Crows, but
- 59:43it's kind of like you walk out there and they all just turned look at
- 59:45you. It's like ship morning guards. You needing? Okay, very good?
- 59:54But yeah, I mean I just find that I find that kind of
- 59:58news reporter interesting because I mean it was like, did you start off wanting
- 1:00:00to be like, you know, all the president's men wood would't burn steam
- 1:00:04type, you know, busting hard news or you know, wouldn't I would
- 1:00:07so live from the Gava strip it's more Gaza strips. I'd rather do soft
- 1:00:10news though, like it just yeah, doing stories about puppies being rescued from
- 1:00:15fucking burning trees. It's much more fun than I think, so yeah,
- 1:00:19doing real news. Look, I mean I started off as a journalist,
- 1:00:22and like a real journalist, I I just didn't have the aptitude for it.
- 1:00:27Yeah, I mean not attitude. I mean I could do it,
- 1:00:30but I think it takes a very specific personality type and I didn't have that
- 1:00:32type. I never understood why they all have the same voice. Oh yeah,
- 1:00:37It's like they all put on this very serious voice and it's like just
- 1:00:40talk man, but yourself. Oh yeah, absolutely. I don't know whether
- 1:00:44it's sort of like a thing that you had to do. It's just expected.
- 1:00:47It's become I mean, it's evolved over the years, certainly. I
- 1:00:51mean there's nothing I like more than doing that kind of ayes. Yeah,
- 1:00:53and that's what you'd hear, you know, usually when Guy Davis for the
- 1:00:57ABC. But yeah, now, but it's not quite as formal as that,
- 1:01:01but it's still very to know. This happened in yeah tonight. The
- 1:01:06person was murdered in Melbourne and then this happened back to you. Imagine every
- 1:01:08night great report, But imagine if you did every news reporters, Hi and
- 1:01:15my dad here at Skill Stadium. Like if you say in that Trey Parker
- 1:01:16news reporter voice, everyone would tune in today, Buddy was found in the
- 1:01:24river bad bad luck Falla. But Brock was giving you a news report,
- 1:01:34and why and how come are you doing this much building all these structures with
- 1:01:37your political am I that's basically the same question, right, yes, asking
- 1:01:43why and how can same question r So yeah, she says, you know,
- 1:01:51when you die, I want something left behind to say I was here.
- 1:01:53I imagine I think we all want that you can relate to that.
- 1:01:58It's like I want something left behind where people I was told to Nicola the
- 1:02:00other I bet my nan right, And it's like if we don't bring up
- 1:02:05my name's memories and things about it, it's like she'll just be forgotten.
- 1:02:07You know that she didn't like do anything in her life that will sort of
- 1:02:10be remembered by the wide wider community. So it's like, if it's up
- 1:02:14to us to keep her, Ali is like he's starting to sort of forget
- 1:02:16her, and I'm like, oh, I've gotta keep reminding him because he
- 1:02:19probably will forget it because she passed away when he was like two, so
- 1:02:22he probably won't remember. I'm just luckily. I'm just glad that we've got
- 1:02:24the videos with her holding him and things like that, because he won't have
- 1:02:29any actual memories of her, and it's like it's up to us now to
- 1:02:30make sure her memory lives on. Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah. I
- 1:02:32mean, look, I've thought many times, as you know, you've got
- 1:02:37the podcast. Now you know that's true, although all these articles in papers
- 1:02:42they aren't true. Yeah, I mean, as a as a currently unmarried
- 1:02:45man with no children. M yet, yes, it could be one of
- 1:02:50those Charlie Chaplin lady in life father. No, that's not going to happen.
- 1:02:53I've got not that. I've got no Ice. Milanie is the best
- 1:03:01kind of baby, because that's me. Yeah, I mean, I've I've
- 1:03:07often thought I better get around to run that novel, otherwise no one's gonna
- 1:03:10know that guy that was even his You've got that novel, You've got that
- 1:03:13sitcom script, you've got about the radio station, you've got the idea about
- 1:03:17what's his face shorthand short round and Brendan Fraser. Someone said this on the
- 1:03:27website formerly known as Twitter the other day, now known as the X.
- 1:03:30We just call it Twitter. Everyone calls it Twitter. I think they're going
- 1:03:31to go back to Twitter. I going to have to eventually. And someone
- 1:03:38art adjacent was talking about AI is going to come up with ideas and that's
- 1:03:42it now then with screw its, Like someone very wise wrote, yeah,
- 1:03:46everyone has ideas. Art is not ideas. Art is actually taking the time
- 1:03:52to take that idea and grow it, nurture it, shape it, turn
- 1:03:55it into something. Yeah you know, Oh yeah that's right, because I
- 1:04:00mean, like I just, like I said, guy's got plenty of ideas.
- 1:04:02Guys just kind of lazy and doesn't really put the work into shaping them
- 1:04:08into actual things, kind of like when you're like, I'll put this in
- 1:04:10the Patreon group this week. I was going to do that for the Fog
- 1:04:15because because it coincided with Spooky season doing the hands because Janet Lee is in
- 1:04:23the Fog, the mother of Jamie Lee Curtis. And yeah, yeah she's
- 1:04:28Kathy Williams. She's the mayor. Is that her mum? Yeah, we
- 1:04:31didn't discuss that on the pot I was trying to, but Mitch just kept
- 1:04:34talking over me. Mitch, bloody hell. I blame him, and I
- 1:04:38blame you for not being more of an EMC. I didn't. I tried,
- 1:04:43just like you did. Great, you did very well. Um.
- 1:04:46But there is a picture I mean, because I think I did refer to
- 1:04:51Oh no, I called Adrian Bubo a five alarm spoke show. But the
- 1:04:56fog is full of hot ladies. And Janet Lye in her youth was just
- 1:05:00like, I'm sorry, absolute dream girl. And there's a picture of the
- 1:05:04Halloween and sort of like a witch's outfit generally was kind of shapely, And
- 1:05:09I'm like, how did we get to this conversation? What's what's led to
- 1:05:12this? I was gonna put this in the I was gonna put that picture
- 1:05:15in the patron where because I just like talking about just like what is happening
- 1:05:21here. I'm gonna I'm gonna find the picture and I'm going to show it
- 1:05:24to Brendan down. Okay, can you show me the picture. I've got
- 1:05:26two miss calls. I'm just looking at that at the time of this podcast
- 1:05:29that we didn't get a move on. Yeah, okay, we're backing this
- 1:05:32up. You keep talking. But yeah, so brokuns Dunny's news report,
- 1:05:38and she says that she just wants to be remembered. Basically, she wants
- 1:05:40to do something that matters and human feelings expressed by human Emo's standing there appreciating
- 1:05:45his structure gets really weird. So March bales on him. Then Hammer brings
- 1:05:47Marge heaps of sticks. Honey, I brought you more sticks. This is
- 1:05:53the most fun I've ever had giving you would only this sculp thing has made
- 1:05:58me feel so fulfilled. I'm as hopeful and full of wife as I was
- 1:06:01in the years before I met you. It's good to see you smile again.
- 1:06:05I was lonely being happy all by myself. Wow, no one's gonna
- 1:06:10be lonely tonight. Let me just put in some romantic music. Hey,
- 1:06:25we get the whole night, baby, let's low things down. Oh.
- 1:06:38Then the rich textan arrives. He wants to finance a fancy schmancy art show
- 1:06:42for March in her front yard. Could she have done this with out of
- 1:06:44money? That's true, She's just put the structures in the front yard.
- 1:06:47How does this fancy smashy as show? It is not. I'll just just
- 1:06:51torn on me not what how did she just move these from the backyard to
- 1:06:57the front yard? Yeah, Texas Billion, they lift your game. Yeah,
- 1:07:02but Marge fires a gun to the air and excitement and shoot on the
- 1:07:05Yeah not the ha. Crusty then says that he he can't Marge can't use
- 1:07:10his lightness, so she changes it to TV clown and it mentions the one
- 1:07:14man Broadway that you're discussing earlier. And Marge doesn't want Homer to go to
- 1:07:16work. She needs him here for the emotional support. And plus you make
- 1:07:19a crowd, a small crowd look huge because he's huge behind. And this
- 1:07:23is a great line if kids discover the link between eating right and feeling good.
- 1:07:26That I'm screwed, and he says, you don't worry, I will
- 1:07:30be back in time for the start of the show, and you're like,
- 1:07:31I know he's not going to be correct. It's kind of like when you
- 1:07:36don't see someone die on a TV show, you know you're not there.
- 1:07:40Didn't see the body. Yeah, that's true, though you've got to see
- 1:07:42the body. Yeah. Yeah, which Stranger Things spoiler for Stranger Things.
- 1:07:45It's old enough now I can talk about it. That reveal of Will in
- 1:07:48the water is one of the best cooks. At the end of an episode,
- 1:07:51for like a death that I can remember, Oh yeah, they went
- 1:07:55there and having heroes playing in the background, that's say, some stranger of
- 1:08:00things. It's so fucking good. I'm pretty cool with stranger things across the
- 1:08:03board. I mean, it's one of those things where it's like it's it's
- 1:08:06same, same it is, but it's usually pretty well done when it's that.
- 1:08:11I think. My only issue with it is they tend to sort of
- 1:08:13supersize it more with each one. It's a bit convoluted, doesn't it a
- 1:08:16little bit? Adding an extra They always add in a character that you know
- 1:08:19is going to be dead by the end of the season, like Sean Aston
- 1:08:23and le Van Halen, the metal guy who was good. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:29but he looked like a young RDJ to me with long hair. He
- 1:08:31did a bit. Yeah. One thing I really liked. Sorry we keep
- 1:08:34going, but I did like about I'm not the hugest Seawan Aston fan,
- 1:08:41but I thought he was actually really well cast as that guy. Oh he
- 1:08:44was yeah, lovable, little like stepdad. Yeah yeah, And I mean
- 1:08:46the shout that they gave to him in the following season where we're not a
- 1:08:50rider is remember sort of mourning him and just you know, because you don't
- 1:08:55really remember the sort of the huge romantic gestures or anything like that. You
- 1:08:59just really remember what I remember. Noting a ride is just sort of having
- 1:09:00a flashback to them and they're just watching some dumb shit on the cats okay,
- 1:09:04and they're just watching some dumb TV show, just cracking up. It's
- 1:09:06like, that's what you remember. Yeah, generally, yeah, yeah,
- 1:09:10I mean, of course you do remember the bigger moments, but generally the
- 1:09:13most fond moments are the ones. Well for me at least, it's like
- 1:09:15we're just hanging out, sanging out. I would never let you down.
- 1:09:18Our marriage is like soft serve ice cream, and trust is the hard chocolate
- 1:09:24shell that keeps it from melting onto our carpet. In conclusion, here's this
- 1:09:29scoop, I love you. How do you kids? Watch? Oh right?
- 1:09:44Ice cream? Then he arrives, he sees the divorced dad's visitation jamboree.
- 1:09:49What a great name, and there's the chance to buy the kids some
- 1:09:55frozen love. No, no way, mum will do it. And then
- 1:09:57we see Gavin here. Now Gavin is from my be not proud of the
- 1:10:00kid that already had bone stork. Now he had bloodstorm too. Stupid that
- 1:10:03kid that always yelled his mum. Gavin was here. I've never seen Gavin
- 1:10:06since. Oh my god, what a callback. Well spotted you. Yeah,
- 1:10:11he had a little rat tail and everything. Was a big fan.
- 1:10:13Unfortunately, the sold out of ice cream as a particular flavor. The sold
- 1:10:16out of because wolf Castle wants something. He's yeah, because he hadn't sold
- 1:10:21out of ice cream because he Jettison's the excess weight and has ice cream on
- 1:10:26the way home. Good point. That's just sold out of something because Greta
- 1:10:29wolf Castle was there, correct, last one. We got friend all right?
- 1:10:32Right, all these nitpicks down and talk to them about talk to Carolyn.
- 1:10:35Yeah, what the fuck were you doing? What the fuck? But
- 1:10:39it's thirty eight seconds to three. So he races off, tries to get
- 1:10:41home. Jettison's the excess weight, including himself. I just standing there worried.
- 1:10:45Then he takes a shortcut. Reminded me of playing Simpsons Hit and Run.
- 1:10:47Anyone who play Simpsons Hit and Run with exactly what talking about? Just
- 1:10:49jumping over that hill. There's a little area right near the Simpsons house where
- 1:10:54could take a big short cut. Reminds you of that, remind me of
- 1:10:57that? But then he I liked the wipers with the ol squeaky voice,
- 1:11:01saying mister Fraban and the and the bear, and just reveals that he's actually
- 1:11:05going to crash into the place, and he smashes all of the all of
- 1:11:09the structures over and no, no, no, savior, energy, don't
- 1:11:13try to talk. I don't know where Carlin and I begin see statements like
- 1:11:17that white people think we're gay. They made it back for your show,
- 1:11:26honey. Well, Homer, you destroyed my artwork and my dreams. Good
- 1:11:30job, very thorough, marge. Let me explain I had a chance to
- 1:11:36make a little more money by exploiting broken families. Oh stop, just stop.
- 1:11:41You don't care about anyone else's happiness but your own. Well, excuse
- 1:11:46me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on. I just thought that
- 1:11:53much just frustrating. Like I said, was believable, but felt a little
- 1:11:57bit unfair. I guess if Homer's but I guess because he was now it's
- 1:12:01not his fault because he responded the way he did. I guess that even
- 1:12:03added to it. I think so, yes, it just felt that,
- 1:12:06you know, just if you're going to be following it up with him of
- 1:12:10being genuine and trying to make better in the final act, why do you
- 1:12:14haven't react this way in the first place? No, how I would have
- 1:12:15done it anymore. Well, he's probably a bit rattle from crashing his because
- 1:12:19he's ruined his his dream. Marge's now in her room and she's being annoyed.
- 1:12:25She's just staying in there and not coming out. He asked her to
- 1:12:27cooking some of the sun. Yeah. He returns with a check for three
- 1:12:30hundred dollars and she sends it back. So he doesn't remember her birthday because
- 1:12:32you the you know, I would say, typical husband. Like I guarantee
- 1:12:38you there's many men out there who don't remember their partner's birthdays. I've been
- 1:12:42pretty good at remembering, have to think about it. I'm good at remembering
- 1:12:45partner's birthdays. I'm no good at remembering my siblings birthdays. Really, yeah,
- 1:12:48I mean, luckily for me my mum, my sister is on the
- 1:12:51same day. I can't remember my mum's birthday really off the top of my
- 1:12:55head. Holy smokes, you kidding. I've got a vague idea, A
- 1:12:59vague idea. Oh, I mean it's near Christmas. It's in the middle
- 1:13:02of a particular month. I've got like a I would assume. So,
- 1:13:05yes, I've got like a four day bracket from the eleventh to fifteenth.
- 1:13:10It's somewhere in there. Uncle. I'm always like, it's either June thirteenth
- 1:13:13or sixteenth, and I never I can never remember my mum. I can
- 1:13:16pretty much remember. I can remember my parents' anniversary, but I can't.
- 1:13:19I'm not really great at mums or dad's birthdays. Two of my sister's birthdays.
- 1:13:25I'm spot on about the other two. I'm like, I think,
- 1:13:29so what about your kids? What about your kids? It was cat Base's
- 1:13:33birthday. Oh well, I wasn't there when he was born. Did you
- 1:13:38find out did not have his birthday? I'm not the car when you bought
- 1:13:40it. No, because he was sort of like a farm okay, farm
- 1:13:44cat, Yeah, farm cat. Some cats when they go to a nice
- 1:13:50yeah, but this cat came from a farm. But no, I remember
- 1:13:55lose birthday. I remember the I have a girl that I was a brave
- 1:14:00pier. We liked and of course I remember Max Whte's bed and yeah,
- 1:14:04but yeah some of the bit as, I'm like, ah blanking yeah,
- 1:14:15March. I have an apology that I hope is better than all the other
- 1:14:17ones, So please listen carefully. The thing I like best about being an
- 1:14:23ice cream man wasn't a free ice cream or the colorful toppings or the love
- 1:14:28I received from obese children. That was giving you those sticks and watching you
- 1:14:32smile. It turned them into art. If it would win you back,
- 1:14:36I would gradually eat all the parts of a motorcycle. I hope it doesn't
- 1:14:41come to that. Could you please just give me a sign that you still
- 1:14:45love me a little? If you won't talk to me, I'm sending polaroids
- 1:14:51to show you how sad I am that I let you down. I'm laughing
- 1:15:11in the last one, but it's only because the cat fell down the stairs.
- 1:15:15Hope then wakes up and Marge's gone. Even the kids don't know where
- 1:15:17she is. She's left Grandpa in charge, and he's yelling out a bit
- 1:15:23stupid here, Cally if he changed dowme to Cally whatever? They asked coming
- 1:15:26book Guy just to sort of get a bit of a diggin in Star Wars
- 1:15:28here. I don't know why. I mean, I suppose we don't know
- 1:15:30why they were making shit Star Wars movies around this time. They were indeed
- 1:15:33yet two thousand and six, so we've just had the last one. Last
- 1:15:38one was just coming out. Yeah, I feel like Revenge of the Sith.
- 1:15:42Do you think there was a bit of like just exhaustion when that came
- 1:15:45out, similar to when riseer Skywalker came back, just not quite on that
- 1:15:49level. There was such a level there was because there was such a level
- 1:15:53of apathy with Rise of Skywalker. I think, you know, Attack the
- 1:15:57Clone No Phantom Menace came out and was like, yeah, Newstone wasn't.
- 1:16:00After a while, I was like, was it all there? Good?
- 1:16:02You know, and you tend to remember, oh the pod Race was good
- 1:16:04and which literally Force awakens. Yeah, yeah, and then then Attack of
- 1:16:09the Clones came out and it was like, oh, wait a minute,
- 1:16:11no, that this sun and so did the last one actually, so yeah,
- 1:16:16I think by the time we got to Revenge, it's like this could
- 1:16:20be good, but you know, three times, shame on me. I'll
- 1:16:25hire it from video wheezy. Good point. But it's actually revealed here that
- 1:16:29March. She's on top of town Hall home. I think she's gonna jump,
- 1:16:30don't do it to give divorce a chance, and she wants to just
- 1:16:32show the world what he means to her and the worst not that interested,
- 1:16:35as he says, but she helps because the boys to help her raise the
- 1:16:39statue of Marilla Gorilla McGill get mcgillgrill, Yeah, Marilla mcguilly gorilla, who
- 1:16:44I guess kind of looks like Omer. I guess, yeah, I keep
- 1:16:47mixing up the purple one, right, No, that's the great gray babe.
- 1:16:49Oh, who's mcgilla gorilla? Then that's what I'm having trouble remembering.
- 1:16:54Okay, I think the mcguilla. Yeah, parents' birthdays and mcguilli gorilla.
- 1:16:58These are my two blind spots. Like Gorilla, he's brown with the kind
- 1:17:02of looks like wearing a leaderhousing. Yeah. Yeah, he's got a little
- 1:17:05outfit on. It doesn't look like at all, but you know he's a
- 1:17:08gorilla. No, I guess we all kind of look like gorillas. But
- 1:17:13the giant structure of Homer in the form of popsicles and my sweet, perfectly
- 1:17:16imperfect you. And Wigham says he's going to on my command fire, and
- 1:17:23Loo says, should we She hasn't done anything wrong. I guess it doesn't
- 1:17:26dig the police force. I think one was like you, our Morgus will
- 1:17:29be empty. Then March is the best creation she ever had was the life
- 1:17:31that they've stopped together with well with Homer, and it's a Lego Wi and
- 1:17:34Opal shop face. Homer goes to eat the ice cream in the dumpster,
- 1:17:40turns out it was the incorrect dumpster, and then we cut to the future
- 1:17:43similar to that are just a lot in the Golden cut to the future reminded
- 1:17:45me of the Bobo episode. Yeah, and where it's mister Burns as the
- 1:17:48robot. But it's the last remaining example of art before the Western world collapsed
- 1:17:54and apparently the iPod's going to overthrow the world, which it feels like a
- 1:17:56data gay. Now talk about a two thousands episodes, it's like, what,
- 1:18:00Yeah, iPods are They're gone pretty much. They died. Yeah,
- 1:18:03they were replaced by the iPhone. They were, indeed, Yeah, a
- 1:18:08great piece of technology though, Oh absolutely, they changed the landscape of everything.
- 1:18:13Yeah. I had the iPod Nano, I had the little one,
- 1:18:15yeah, and loved it. It was just fantastic. I mean it was
- 1:18:18really convenient as well, because I mean particularly if you making your platelists and
- 1:18:23well, yeah, and if you want to go out walking or running.
- 1:18:25I mean it was something. I mean, now you sort of maybe have
- 1:18:28to take your phone which is a little bulkier and all that kind of stuff,
- 1:18:30but you know, a little iPod nano you can clip onto yourself.
- 1:18:32And oh I loved it. This bluetooth throw because I hate I couldn't use
- 1:18:38the headphones, had the cords in my ears. They'd alays fall out when
- 1:18:41I was running. Oh okay, i'd have Bluetooth headphones. I don't know
- 1:18:43why that is my ears astually shaped. Funny. Maybe it took me back
- 1:18:46when I was watching and I was like, what did I used to do?
- 1:18:48That's right. I used to carry around a discman in my pocket.
- 1:18:51Oh my god. I went for runs, but used to be able to
- 1:18:54get like the Discman's that had a special technology where they wouldn't skip it.
- 1:18:57Okay, yeah, I used to run with my pants on it like the
- 1:19:00Yeah, and it'd be in my pocket and they'd be bouncing around in the
- 1:19:04cities wouldn't skip but yeah, city Walkman's there another thing of the past.
- 1:19:08But you see tape decks now available again, I did not see that.
- 1:19:11Yeah, you can go to Kmar and buy cassette players, wow boomboxes,
- 1:19:15Legit boomboxes which have bluetooth capabilities as well. Of course, it's just the
- 1:19:20case. You want any record player, you can bluetooth it. Oh,
- 1:19:24yes, please put it that way, certainly. What do we learn,
- 1:19:28Bomber? So what you learn from the episode, mister Davis. That's a
- 1:19:30very good question. That there's a market out there for the pink VCR.
- 1:19:38There is, indeed, Yeah, well there was in the early two thousands
- 1:19:40there was a market for just fluo colored things. The Imax. Oh yeah,
- 1:19:44yeah that we got one into the place that I was working in the
- 1:19:47late nineties and we were all like futuristic. Yeah, it was a case
- 1:19:53of full meeting function. It was kind of cool. You could see inside
- 1:19:55them, right, you could if you're really looking. Yeah, what did
- 1:19:59you learn? I learned that your ship on the year like the hah yes,
- 1:20:04forward, your names will be all right. It is time for the
- 1:20:08Guy Davis New Name Championship. The current leaderboard stands at this we have in
- 1:20:14first position Kyle muldoon on eight points, in second position Luke McKay on seven
- 1:20:18points, and in third position Philip Jay Hawkins on five points. What have
- 1:20:23we got this week? Let's do this. One point goes to Sunday as
- 1:20:28an ice Cream Sunday Drive Sunday Drust Sunday Drive. That would be one Neil
- 1:20:31Parks, first time on the leader board. What on Neil part life well
- 1:20:35known Parks. Two points goes to Mom and Pop Sickle Art. That is
- 1:20:44another newbie, Andy Gangler? What on Andy? Another one? So that
- 1:20:46means the leader board hasn't changed yet? What happens? We're one with the
- 1:20:51Crazy Frog? My kids? They must have played that a daycare elliot.
- 1:20:57So I put the Crazy Frog and I'm like, no, there's there's only
- 1:21:00one way you know about this. It was a daycare. I'm like,
- 1:21:02what are they doing? What are you doing? Yeah? I'm paying you
- 1:21:04good money. I'll put it on just so icond watch it. I wanted
- 1:21:06to sort of remember. Was it as stupid as I remember it? It's
- 1:21:10just this fucking frog, And I'm like, what is happening? How is
- 1:21:13this number? This was number one? What the hell? Two thousands around
- 1:21:17different times you get the ads for the ring Tones paid nineteen ninety nine.
- 1:21:21You get the crazy frog ring tone? What were we thinking? That's why
- 1:21:26we're in the situation. But one point, I mean sorry, three points.
- 1:21:30Yeah, it goes to stick with your wive, no barrel. I
- 1:21:34was about to say, hopefully that accent past muster Steve Robert another newbie,
- 1:21:41Steve Roberts again. So he's back on this leaderboard now, so three points
- 1:21:45Robbo rob Yeah, so the leader board has not changed. Kyle Steve O
- 1:21:49Robbo. So three points to Steve Roberts. So he now is on the
- 1:21:56leader board as well. We've got Kyle still in first, Luke McKay still
- 1:21:58in second, and Philip j in third. On five points. All right,
- 1:22:01it's time for some mailbag questions with the Davis mail bag. Bail is
- 1:22:05here, Georgia Power here with the first one. What do you think is
- 1:22:10a very niche job you'd be great at due to your interest slash to lights
- 1:22:14run Yeah, post running a video store? Oh yeah, I just that
- 1:22:18was like one of my dreams of the kid. I was like, I'm
- 1:22:19gonna I'm gonna run this shop one day. I'm gonna make so much money.
- 1:22:25I too thought these things. One of my fantasies when I was in
- 1:22:30my twenties and thirties was like, if I had a nice little nest egg,
- 1:22:32I would distribute it among investing in the following things, and they would
- 1:22:36all be relatively close to another. A bookshop, a video shop, and
- 1:22:41a pizza pla yeah altogether. Yeah, yeah, it's like, I just
- 1:22:44think that'd be the dream. I'd love to do that. What about an
- 1:22:45arcade somewhere in there as well? Yeah, that's true. I mean there's
- 1:22:48the is it Center Point Arcade in Geelong? Yeah. Yeah, it's an
- 1:22:53actual arcade though that's just basically just a street that goes between two through the
- 1:22:57building. It's not like a video game arcade. Oh you mean like like
- 1:23:01I mean an arcade arcade. Yeah, yeah, I'm using a thoroughfare.
- 1:23:06It was about, well, I mean, I wouldn't mind that arcade,
- 1:23:10the Center Point one, and turn it into like a place where you were
- 1:23:12in there. Yeah yeah, and that's where to have my bookshop and my
- 1:23:14pizza parlor. We've got to play some Monopoly a bit later and do that.
- 1:23:19I thought you meant to use my antiquated terminology A pinny parlor that's right
- 1:23:24man as well. Yeah, I know, but you said, okay,
- 1:23:28yeah, because you could have a few pennies in there, so even maybe
- 1:23:30in the pizza parlor at least I think so. Yeah, because it was
- 1:23:32always great when you get fish and chips on like a Sunday art or something.
- 1:23:35It's like you Weste ten Bucks at the pennies laces with the pinball machine
- 1:23:39or or the Ark Street Fighter. Know that this place had like a driving
- 1:23:43game. No, I'm got it was. It was one step up from
- 1:23:46pong. Okay, I'm talking about the late seventies early eighties. Yeah,
- 1:23:50I mean this is when Space Invaders was high tech. But yeah, basically
- 1:23:56all it had was the accelerator. I mean it had a pedal for the
- 1:24:00accelerator and a wheel and you just have to drive fast and avoid these other
- 1:24:02cars. I fucking loved it, and I got really good at it because
- 1:24:05it was a good fish and chip shop when we go there all the time,
- 1:24:09and now we're fish and chips. Oh sorry dude, but yeah,
- 1:24:12yeah, I mean I think these would be good in these jobs. Yeah,
- 1:24:15videos off. For me, it was always the one. Yeah.
- 1:24:16Oh and also yes, small town DJ, Yes, Kendy g favorite classic
- 1:24:20ice cream. Well, you've mentioned several already, haven't you favorite classic ice
- 1:24:24cream flavor? Oh? I think I was just talking about sort of names
- 1:24:27like butterscotch. Yeah, but I've always just been a huge either choco honeycomb
- 1:24:31or cookies and cream like that kind of combination. I love it. I
- 1:24:34tend to like anything with a bit of a raspberry thing to it. I
- 1:24:39mean, you like boison berries. I do when I get a chop top
- 1:24:42at the cinema. How good are the boison berries? Boisonberries fantastic? That
- 1:24:45shit boisonberry or salted caramel, just chop tops in general. Where do they
- 1:24:48make these things? They taste delicious? I don't know, They're fantastic and
- 1:24:53like they can last like a good half an hour not melt. It's like
- 1:24:55the chocolate's cold enough. It's like, what is happening here. Thing of
- 1:24:58it is, you've got to be very care because you're eating in the dark
- 1:25:00in cinema and there's always a chance that the shout of chocolate might come off.
- 1:25:02And if you're wearing a white shirt, you know, and then you're
- 1:25:05gonna be you're walking out. Yeah, And I mean I did this when
- 1:25:09I was seeing a horror movie of all things. I came out it looks
- 1:25:11like I've got a dirty, great big bloodstain on my shirt. Yeah.
- 1:25:15I think those are probably my favorite. Oh though, something that I really
- 1:25:18enjoyed recently, and if it's been discontinued, I'll be pissed off because I
- 1:25:21didn't have it the supermarket last time I went. Well, these pistachio flavored
- 1:25:26ice creams. Okay, that was like pistashio ice cream and I had but
- 1:25:29also like a pistachio flavored chocolate coating it. It's like, damn, that's
- 1:25:32nice. Sounds so delicious, even though I wouldn't be able to eat it
- 1:25:35because because I'm nuts. Harrison, be cooler. Have you ever had an
- 1:25:39ice cream or dessert that has stuck out as a core memory for you?
- 1:25:43Yeah, that was also pretty nice, but the one that always leaps out
- 1:25:45for me, and I'm sure I've mentioned this on the show in the past.
- 1:25:47I had a very nice dinner with my family at the bar On and
- 1:25:50Heads Golf Club. It's a bit like Caddy Shack were all being very mentioned
- 1:25:55this actually. Yeah, the dessert, I had a lovely slice of BANOFFI
- 1:26:00Banoffi Pie. Yeah, it's banana and toffee together, folks. That's too
- 1:26:03great taste. It tastes fucking great together. Uh yeah, BANOFFI Pie.
- 1:26:08For me, it's the oil can eat ice cream from Pizza Hunt in the
- 1:26:11nineties. Oh my god, there's still one left in Ballarat. I think
- 1:26:15it is like the oil can eat Pizza Hut and get you like ten bucks
- 1:26:16and so you can eat pizza and are so sad. It's like they've given
- 1:26:20up on it. I'm like, you could make this such a thing.
- 1:26:24Yeah, don't you realize the cost of living is through the roof at the
- 1:26:26moment of for the pizza off, for the people, all the pizza they
- 1:26:30can eat, the nostalgia value value of being the only can eat Pizza Hut
- 1:26:33in this region. Put some money into this. People will come. People
- 1:26:36build it. They will come. They fucking will. And we because we
- 1:26:40were in Ballarat for like a holiday with the kids and I was like,
- 1:26:43I'm gonna Pizzahut. It's like a common room from when I was a kid.
- 1:26:45I'm like, gonna be so great. My kids experienced it with me
- 1:26:48what I got to experience when I was a kid. I got there and
- 1:26:49it's like these teenagers were just like yeah, there's likezza. Yeah, it's
- 1:26:55like pizzas were like old and stale, and I'm like, ah, the
- 1:26:58tables won't clean. I was like, not, no, this is not
- 1:27:00what I remember what was happening here? Where are the for all United kids
- 1:27:04out there? He won't get this reference. Where are the Lamb before Time
- 1:27:06hand puppets and the Goosebumps hand puppets that were a big thing in the nineties.
- 1:27:10I'm more were of the Lamb before Time, but the hand puppets and
- 1:27:12pizza hut not really it Okay, they were huge. We'll do one more,
- 1:27:15We'll do one more, and JPA we can't miss and JPE that's the
- 1:27:19same and all of this. What's your favorite Homo side hustle? Mine was
- 1:27:24the food critic. That's a good one. Well, we really enjoyed that
- 1:27:27one. That's back. That was the second episode you ever reviewed? Oh
- 1:27:29yes, yeah. Even though he couldn't write a decent review, he was
- 1:27:32passionate about it. It's a shame it wasn't a recurring GI. With Lisa
- 1:27:35as his ghost writer, I feel that the side hustles it can ever be
- 1:27:39a recurring thing really that they're a side hustle for a reason. I think
- 1:27:42the beer Baron is probably a good one, the one that stands out the
- 1:27:44most. I'm being very obviously. I'm going to say, mister Plower,
- 1:27:45mister Players a great one. Yeah. Is that a side hustle. I
- 1:27:48guess this is a side hustle, wasn't it. Yeah? Yeah, the
- 1:27:51beer Baron for me, just because he was just bringing so much joy and
- 1:27:55to the It's always great because Marge is like, that's very clever. If
- 1:27:59Marge was on on homicide. Here, we'll actually do one more. Andrews
- 1:28:01why not? Andrews want says, if you've got any ideas for your own
- 1:28:04food mascots, oh for the podcast or just in general, what what food
- 1:28:10of yours do you think needs a food? You don't see as many mascots
- 1:28:13as we used to. It's like they don't let they don't want to market
- 1:28:15to kids. I'm not sure what this do you think a man Swarani is
- 1:28:20referring to, like Ronald McDonald, Yeah, maybe, but just like think
- 1:28:24of like Grim Caramelo Koala. Oh yeah, mascots, Oh gosh, that's
- 1:28:30remember Monty the Pie Beaumont pie's no. Do you remember remember Bonmont pie?
- 1:28:36Yes? Sometimes wake up they bring back, bring back Piemont. You can
- 1:28:44buy them at I know this is yours. They're not exactly the same.
- 1:28:48Man never cooked the BoNT part in his life, but there used to be
- 1:28:53a guy down at the footy in the in the Monte de Pie costume pie.
- 1:28:58But what's a mascot? What the food that I enjoy? Let's think
- 1:29:00of what's what's your favorite desert butt? Off your pie? What can be
- 1:29:03offy pie mascot? Well, it would be like a banana but covered in
- 1:29:08like top, except that will look gross. I'm thinking because I enjoy good
- 1:29:13cheeseburger. But I'm thinking of like a German booger. Dust is mine humburger.
