- 0:47Speaker 7: Do you feel a little different, BT, I feel a
- 0:49Speaker 7: lot different. I feel like I told y'all Ni you
- 0:55Speaker 7: did you did?
- 0:57Speaker 3: I remember because we were we were talking about your
- 0:58Speaker 3: album on the Baller podcast. I want to say, as
- 1:01Speaker 3: soon as it came out, it was a very great
- 1:03Speaker 3: masterpiece of music. I want to talk to Killer Mike man.
- 1:08Speaker 3: How long did it take for you to feel how
- 1:12Speaker 3: you felt when you won those three for three?
- 1:14Speaker 1: You was three for three? Sweet?
- 1:16Speaker 3: Did you feel like it was a long time coming
- 1:18Speaker 3: because I know the first Grammar you won that was
- 1:20Speaker 3: with someone else.
- 1:21Speaker 7: Yeah without without, these are yours? Yeah yeah, I mean
- 1:25Speaker 7: I'm honest either way. I know, like I'm not ours.
- 1:28Speaker 7: The won like I wanted to tag along. I wrapped
- 1:30Speaker 7: my ass off. I felt accomplished. But man, with these accomplishments,
- 1:34Speaker 7: you just want to accomplish more. And you know, winning
- 1:36Speaker 7: them on my own means something. I still got some goals,
- 1:39Speaker 7: Like my rap group Run the Jewels, we deserve a Grammar.
- 1:42Speaker 7: Shouts out to my rap part in LP. He produced
- 1:44Speaker 7: down wrapped on this, so he gets one by this.
- 1:46Speaker 7: But I want to come back and win one, two, three,
- 1:48Speaker 7: four more as Run the Jewels, like this is the
- 1:51Speaker 7: beginning for me, Like this is this is a first
- 1:55Speaker 7: solo album you heard from me in twelve years. So
- 1:57Speaker 7: I'm a brand new artist. I'm not who I was
- 1:59Speaker 7: twelve years ago, or one half of a mighty rap group.
- 2:02Speaker 7: And I've just opened up another layer. So it's two
- 2:04Speaker 7: more Michaels that are in store. And I went back
- 2:06Speaker 7: to work the next day.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Okay, and you said you put up you know, half
- 2:10Speaker 2: a million for this project out of your own pocket.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Yeah, your own money. You used. My wife was not
- 2:16Speaker 1: not half about it.
- 2:17Speaker 4: She probably like, what's going on?
- 2:19Speaker 1: What's wrong with you? That quarter me and out?
- 2:22Speaker 7: She called me like like nigga, like, nigg you spend
- 2:24Speaker 7: a quarter me and all this your hobby now, Nigga,
- 2:27Speaker 7: this ain't running jewels as being.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Married, these type of decisions like you conversed with each other.
- 2:33Speaker 3: So how how would that conversation go?
- 2:35Speaker 1: That went like how you catch that?
- 2:39Speaker 2: You know?
- 2:40Speaker 6: But it paid off?
- 2:41Speaker 7: Yeah, I believed she believed in me a long time.
- 2:44Speaker 7: So I appreciate. You know, you got to have believers
- 2:46Speaker 7: around you, and you know, my wife has believed in me.
- 2:49Speaker 7: My my sisters have believed in me. My baby mothers
- 2:53Speaker 7: have believed in me. You know, go back to high school.
- 2:55Speaker 7: Old lovers have believed them. You and I just appreciate
- 2:58Speaker 7: everybody they ever believed, even if you don't take the
- 3:01Speaker 7: whole ride together, like it's important, search steps your way.
- 3:04Speaker 7: It was like everybody got that baby mama. Sometimes you
- 3:06Speaker 7: butt heads with you know what, And man, I hug
- 3:09Speaker 7: her as tight as I do all the others because man,
- 3:11Speaker 7: when I first wanted to do music, like it was
- 3:13Speaker 7: me and her she believed she loved music we wrapped
- 3:16Speaker 7: od B whole first album to each other, and no
- 3:19Speaker 7: matter how the personal things got in between fell apart.
- 3:21Speaker 7: She's a believer, so she wanted the people I call
- 3:24Speaker 7: like we did it.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Stuff that you was able to do that too.
- 3:28Speaker 4: And I know that was a great feeling, man.
- 3:30Speaker 8: And I just loved your speech about Atlanta and all,
- 3:34Speaker 8: and like you were just so you know, prideful about
- 3:37Speaker 8: where you was from, and you just you know, you
- 3:39Speaker 8: made the city smile, man, like we do.
- 3:41Speaker 7: Listen, man, we gotta we gotta plan the parade all.
- 3:43Speaker 7: We gotta make that. I ain't playing.
- 3:45Speaker 1: We gave parade to the Adeville Bike and we gave
- 3:47Speaker 1: parade to high school. Right here. We're gonna given because
- 3:50Speaker 1: it's for us, man.
- 3:51Speaker 7: I said, just started on months ago at a at
- 3:55Speaker 7: a Hawks game that me winning these Ramons would be ill.
- 3:58Speaker 7: Was asked question. I said, man, it'd be like the
- 4:00Speaker 7: Hawks again. They first one and be like the Fast,
- 4:02Speaker 7: then they first be like the Brazen, and another one
- 4:04Speaker 7: like the United doing again. And I meant that like
- 4:06Speaker 7: this is for us, you know what I mean. I
- 4:08Speaker 7: know I did the work, I got the studio all
- 4:09Speaker 7: locked in, but this city has poured so much into me.
- 4:13Speaker 7: Every people are believed in me in rooms I wasn't
- 4:15Speaker 7: in if said my name and high favor, and I
- 4:18Speaker 7: just I want to celebrate it with y'all all. So
- 4:19Speaker 7: we're gonna we're gonna figure something out well and let
- 4:21Speaker 7: us know we're there. Yeah, And I want to invite
- 4:24Speaker 7: all the people. I want to invite the cool streamers.
- 4:26Speaker 7: I don't know no about screaming. I want to invite Kyle,
- 4:28Speaker 7: thank you for saying ya. I know your guy. I
- 4:31Speaker 7: know your guy in wed but listen, I want to
- 4:33Speaker 7: come to the room. I want to brave your room
- 4:34Speaker 7: because Atlanta Steel One, I am. I it go, y'all player,
- 4:39Speaker 7: just know I rock with you two on IM cheating
- 4:42Speaker 7: for all of us, you know what I mean? Because
- 4:43Speaker 7: I think that from a cultural standpoint, this is the
- 4:46Speaker 7: this is the center of the black world culturally, and however,
- 4:50Speaker 7: whoever's winning, we win it. Yeah, you know, I just
- 4:53Speaker 7: want to just tell him that.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Like y'all, I just blame it on the gen Z
- 4:55Speaker 4: when I when I watched the movie.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I ain't blaming it on nothing like I love y'all.
- 4:58Speaker 1: You know what I mean.
- 4:59Speaker 7: If if you know, if you ever get treated bad
- 5:01Speaker 7: on right there for you know what I mean, So
- 5:03Speaker 7: I know how I go though, you know what I'm saying.
- 5:04Speaker 7: When I liked looking the Two Line Crew, my mama
- 5:07Speaker 7: was more in the Salt and Pepper.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. I get it, but I
- 5:10Speaker 1: listened to both bands.
- 5:11Speaker 7: So I'm gonna just say to young people out there,
- 5:13Speaker 7: it ain't nothing wrong with expanding.
- 5:15Speaker 1: It ain't nothing wrong with trying something else.
- 5:17Speaker 7: It ain't nothing wrong, you know, with just giving, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 7: having You don't have to be always in the crowd,
- 5:22Speaker 7: you know what I mean. Like I was a kid
- 5:24Speaker 7: in the South, I listened to Biology. I listened to
- 5:26Speaker 7: you GK. I listened to Luke, I listened to Poison Clan,
- 5:29Speaker 7: the Dogs. I listened to everything out of textas the
- 5:31Speaker 7: Ghetto Boys tell me right the third you know, coming
- 5:33Speaker 7: out of Memphs.
- 5:34Speaker 1: I listened to all South music.
- 5:35Speaker 7: The only thing that made me exceptional, rhyme wise and
- 5:39Speaker 7: different amongst my peer group at the time was I
- 5:41Speaker 7: listened to East Coast music too, and I listened to
- 5:44Speaker 7: Northern California music.
- 5:45Speaker 1: So I listened to Hooglyphics.
- 5:46Speaker 7: I listened to Far Side, you know, out of La
- 5:48Speaker 7: I listened to the beat Nuts. I listened to Gangstar
- 5:51Speaker 7: and Gangstar Foundation. I listened to Wu Tang Clan, so
- 5:53Speaker 7: it gave me just enough edge. So when people say, man,
- 5:56Speaker 7: how do you do it for twenty years stylistically, I've
- 5:58Speaker 7: not been so married to something I die with it.
- 6:01Speaker 7: So I just want to encourage all listeners out there.
- 6:03Speaker 7: As a kid, I listened to as much rock and
- 6:05Speaker 7: roll as I did RAP. I listened to Metallica, I
- 6:07Speaker 7: listened to led Zeppelin. You just heard Tee Paine do
- 6:09Speaker 7: a rendition of osiy Odsborne when he was with Black Sabbath.
- 6:12Speaker 7: And you have to become culturally rich too, Like I
- 6:15Speaker 7: know the people that you watching, you like and that stream,
- 6:18Speaker 7: and you agree with them and they agree with you.
- 6:19Speaker 7: That's a good feeling to be a part of that.
- 6:21Speaker 7: But bring something else to the club. Be the person
- 6:23Speaker 7: to say, let me turn you onto this. If you
- 6:25Speaker 7: love Andre three thousand, you should know who Port's Head is.
- 6:29Speaker 7: Well why Because Port's Head affected Andre three thousand and
- 6:32Speaker 7: ninety five ninety six in a way that radically changed
- 6:34Speaker 7: the way he approached music. So you should always want
- 6:37Speaker 7: to know what's the source of the source teaching you
- 6:39Speaker 7: know what I mean. So I'm just saying, get on
- 6:42Speaker 7: a big brush shot. If you don't rock with it,
- 6:44Speaker 7: don't rock with it. But you know I want and
- 6:47Speaker 7: I'm gonna win again, and I'm gonna win again, and
- 6:49Speaker 7: I'm gonna win again.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Love y'all.
- 6:51Speaker 3: I wanted to say, I respect so how so I
- 6:55Speaker 3: respect so much? How mentally sharp and articulated you are?
- 7:00Speaker 3: Where did that come from?
- 7:02Speaker 7: Atlanta Public schools APS call your Heights Elementary, Frederick Doull's
- 7:06Speaker 7: High School or later Moore House College. I want to
- 7:08Speaker 7: thank all the teachers who meant so much to me,
- 7:10Speaker 7: the ones I still talk to, like Mr Murray from
- 7:13Speaker 7: Frederick Douglas High School who was my art teacher. Shannon McCullen,
- 7:16Speaker 7: who's little y'all, his dad his art teacher, you know
- 7:19Speaker 7: what I mean.
- 7:19Speaker 1: I want to thank people like Miss Pritchett, who's the
- 7:23Speaker 1: you still remember all of these people.
- 7:25Speaker 7: I can tell you every teacher from every grade I
- 7:26Speaker 7: had because they made that impression on them, you know
- 7:29Speaker 7: what I mean? Even the ones I didn't like. They
- 7:30Speaker 7: gave me a challenge to say, I'm gonna show you
- 7:32Speaker 7: I'm gonna overcome this. So for me, yeah, absolutely, that's important. Yeah,
- 7:35Speaker 7: So I want to get shouts out to Atlanta Public
- 7:37Speaker 7: School and just I want to let the kids in,
- 7:39Speaker 7: particularly Frederick Douglas, know that you guys are great. Y'all
- 7:42Speaker 7: are worthy, and y'all keep being a prime example of
- 7:45Speaker 7: greatness in spite of the obstacles. And I want to
- 7:47Speaker 7: tell their their arrival Benjamin E. Mays, y'all only as
- 7:50Speaker 7: good as y'all rival. So y'all got to keep sharply
- 7:52Speaker 7: in each other. You know, our our current Mayle went
- 7:55Speaker 7: to Maize, but his right hand man, oh there is
- 7:57Speaker 7: a nashtro So you know, y'all raiders wouldn't be no.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Over there now. But so who was killer Mike Michael
- 8:06Speaker 3: growing up?
- 8:06Speaker 1: Man, You listen to the album and you see it's
- 8:08Speaker 1: right now. It's all in the album.
- 8:10Speaker 2: The way that the record is sonically, it kind of
- 8:13Speaker 2: like feels like you're there exactly.
- 8:15Speaker 1: That's yeah, Yeah, you're not, you're not. You're not.
- 8:18Speaker 7: As much as hearing the album, you're watching the movie from.
- 8:22Speaker 2: The choirs that you have in there, like you even
- 8:25Speaker 2: got a gospel record.
- 8:26Speaker 1: It sounds like a Tears with Mazie.
- 8:28Speaker 7: Yeah, so the current words out they still wouldn't let
- 8:30Speaker 7: us get the gospel that we tried. I gotta ask Cray, like,
- 8:34Speaker 7: how I get in on the gospel. I stopped cutting.
- 8:37Speaker 7: I gotta see if we gotta have like one mandatory
- 8:39Speaker 7: Jesus in there somewhere. The craft shouts out of my
- 8:42Speaker 7: man of Craig. Yeah, this did see is the Godfather one.
- 8:48Speaker 7: And Michael two is gonna be the Godfather too, and
- 8:51Speaker 7: Michael three is gonna be better than the Godfather three
- 8:53Speaker 7: was because the Godfather. Although people to classify as against
- 8:57Speaker 7: the movie, my kids have seen it so much because
- 8:59Speaker 7: it's a family movie.
- 9:00Speaker 1: To me.
- 9:01Speaker 7: You get a chance to see Vido Coleon who was orphaned,
- 9:04Speaker 7: become a man and raise a family. Now he's a criminal,
- 9:07Speaker 7: only criminal things happened, but your granddaddy sold moonshine a
- 9:10Speaker 7: crack depending on how your granddaddy is. But your granddadd
- 9:13Speaker 7: have reformed his life, changed it to a great man.
- 9:15Speaker 7: And now your great dadd and one of your biggest
- 9:17Speaker 7: So for me, I wanted you to see the story
- 9:19Speaker 7: of a nine year old boy growing up in a
- 9:22Speaker 7: city that had just been plighted with the missing and
- 9:25Speaker 7: murdered children that crack had entered and changed the world
- 9:28Speaker 7: that his grandmother all she knew was Jesus, so she
- 9:30Speaker 7: clung to the cross and helped them. Now, I wanted
- 9:32Speaker 7: you to see the movie of a black American kid
- 9:35Speaker 7: who always heard you can, you must, you will, and
- 9:38Speaker 7: then here you can't. It ain't gonna ever gonna happen
- 9:40Speaker 7: for you, It ain't fus. I wanted you to see
- 9:42Speaker 7: the story of obstacles overcome through baby Mammy, some bad decisions,
- 9:46Speaker 7: and through making right decisions and growing. And I wanted
- 9:48Speaker 7: it to feel like a movie. I didn't want it
- 9:50Speaker 7: to feel like I'm just hearing this song to turn
- 9:52Speaker 7: up and then maybe I get another turn up record.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I wanted you to be able to turn up within
- 9:55Speaker 1: the experience.
- 9:56Speaker 7: So whether you know most dope boy songs are telling
- 9:59Speaker 7: you I sold dope the bad My Dope Boys song
- 10:01Speaker 7: just felt like a barbecue in the hood because it
- 10:03Speaker 7: was with Spider and two Chinese and sometimes the dope
- 10:06Speaker 7: boys not the villains, they just the dudes that made it.
- 10:08Speaker 7: Got a hustle going and feed everybody once a month
- 10:11Speaker 7: on Saturdays, because you know they throwing they barbecue. You're
- 10:13Speaker 7: gonna get to see the cool car. So it's not
- 10:15Speaker 7: all blighted, it's not all bad for black people. We smile,
- 10:18Speaker 7: We love each other, you know, our mothers die, We
- 10:21Speaker 7: more and we cry and the next day, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 7: we understand that we got to get up. There never
- 10:25Speaker 7: been a record like something for junkies. Well, we talked about,
- 10:28Speaker 7: you know, everybody got an uncle lord on everybody to
- 10:31Speaker 7: come and now who else? What other rapper? And again,
- 10:33Speaker 7: like I'm talking to my my homies, who I listen to?
- 10:36Speaker 1: The music you listen to?
- 10:37Speaker 7: I like it, But at some point, man, you know
- 10:40Speaker 7: you're gonna have to come to terms with that the
- 10:42Speaker 7: real life hits you to and my record to death
- 10:44Speaker 7: for you, you know what I mean.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So that's that's what That's what I think ultimately.
- 10:48Speaker 7: You know, there's some days where all them listening to
- 10:50Speaker 7: is rap, and the some days where all I'm gonna
- 10:52Speaker 7: listen to is John Coltran's Love Supreme. You know, there's
- 10:55Speaker 7: some days all I'm gonna listen to is is me
- 10:58Speaker 7: and my wife ride around listening to Sinatra and were
- 11:00Speaker 7: listening to Nat King Call because we just cruised and
- 11:03Speaker 7: we in love and that's how we want to hear about,
- 11:05Speaker 7: you know. So I want to encourage people to seek
- 11:07Speaker 7: other musics that you may not have thought of, because
- 11:10Speaker 7: they represent your mood as much as you know, turn
- 11:12Speaker 7: it up.
- 11:13Speaker 4: And I agree with that.
- 11:14Speaker 2: But I think that's why the Grammys is great because
- 11:17Speaker 2: it you know, when somebody wins, you don't know them,
- 11:20Speaker 2: you know, go explore.
- 11:21Speaker 7: That, you know.
- 11:22Speaker 4: It's like it's like watching a movie.
- 11:24Speaker 8: And one of the records that I that I love
- 11:26Speaker 8: is when when I feel like you were speaking the
- 11:29Speaker 8: terms that's really relatable when you said, yo, you tweaking
- 11:32Speaker 8: my nigga, like like like really talking like how we
- 11:36Speaker 8: talked amongst our friends and I'm listening, I'm like, like
- 11:40Speaker 8: it's in the twisting and click.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Yeah, but it all went together, Yes, but it all
- 11:45Speaker 6: went together.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And I heard you say in one of your interviews
- 11:47Speaker 2: that Ray Murray was a part of the U, the
- 11:50Speaker 2: keeping it.
- 11:51Speaker 1: The thing south. Yeah, he gave it. It gave it
- 11:53Speaker 1: us a challenge.
- 11:53Speaker 7: He said, it has to be southern, it has to
- 11:57Speaker 7: be distinctly Southern, and it has to be as cohesive
- 11:59Speaker 7: as the running and then he just walked out the room.
- 12:02Speaker 7: And then because like you look at each other like shit,
- 12:05Speaker 7: because that's a challenge because you got to meet the
- 12:08Speaker 7: challenge when it's given as God speaking through somebody. But boy,
- 12:11Speaker 7: that's a hell of a challenge to hell when you
- 12:12Speaker 7: think you have made the greatest mistaped off and you're like, God, damn,
- 12:16Speaker 7: we got a ways to go.
- 12:17Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, only coming. And he's from the beginning.
- 12:20Speaker 2: He's from the organized noise, you know, like you were
- 12:22Speaker 2: talking about our cast Dungeon Family.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I always thought you were in the Dungeon Family.
- 12:26Speaker 7: I am oh, yeah, I am, yeah, I am. I
- 12:30Speaker 7: am what it was. It's crazy. If you listen to
- 12:33Speaker 7: Dungeon Family, you listen to Kendrick, you hear the beauty
- 12:36Speaker 7: of influence.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Okay, then you.
- 12:38Speaker 7: Hear Kendrick give me a shout out, which is the
- 12:40Speaker 7: beauty of influence. And then you turn around and a
- 12:42Speaker 7: year after he bam, you look at me. I come
- 12:45Speaker 7: and sweep and it just shows you the perpetual energy.
- 12:48Speaker 7: It don't stop, it just keeps going because Curtis, may
- 12:50Speaker 7: feel gave the Dungeon Family certain energy. And that's why
- 12:53Speaker 7: the Dungeon Family could make you feel like a sample
- 12:55Speaker 7: even though when the sample so what they learned from Curtis,
- 12:58Speaker 7: they have parted on us Curtis will this big. The
- 13:00Speaker 7: first sample on my album is a Curtis sample, and
- 13:02Speaker 7: then they don't just give our samples like that. So
- 13:05Speaker 7: it's just amazing how energy flows, you know what I mean.
- 13:07Speaker 1: I just I'm appreciated to be able. Sleepy Brown call.
- 13:10Speaker 7: Me like, hey man, you represent us well. You know,
- 13:14Speaker 7: like the Dungeon Family's never stopped being talked about. When
- 13:18Speaker 7: you hear never to dre on a record, that's the
- 13:20Speaker 7: Dungeon family, that's a Dungeon Family record. You know when
- 13:24Speaker 7: when DJ Paul It is part producer James Blake, and
- 13:28Speaker 7: you know you got yet on there. My man, no idea,
- 13:32Speaker 7: you have that harsh part you seeing something happened that
- 13:35Speaker 7: only happens in the South. People cooperate and collaborate. They're
- 13:38Speaker 7: not in so vested competition with each other. They won't
- 13:41Speaker 7: see each other fail. So this record managed just a
- 13:43Speaker 7: testament to love. It is truly a movie. So I'm
- 13:46Speaker 7: glad you brought that up. So for people who may
- 13:49Speaker 7: not get killing Michael, may not know who killing Mike is,
- 13:51Speaker 7: it's a great place to be introduced to killing Mike
- 13:53Speaker 7: because I'm Michael and I'd like to get to know you.
- 13:56Speaker 8: I just love you know, just show energy and how
- 13:59Speaker 8: positive you are just about just everything. And you know,
- 14:03Speaker 8: seeing you in that Grammy, well those Grammys, I was like, man,
- 14:06Speaker 8: like this is just amazing, you know for the city
- 14:09Speaker 8: and just how hard you put on How long did
- 14:11Speaker 8: it took you to record the album.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Two and a half years?
- 14:15Speaker 3: Wow did you take breaks?
- 14:17Speaker 7: And you just like now we treated like a job.
- 14:20Speaker 7: Me and cous light Year. Cous light Year an amazing
- 14:24Speaker 7: and off from here and he's just my friend, like
- 14:27Speaker 7: shits twenty years, Like met him coming around out of
- 14:29Speaker 7: our school. Just felt a great relationship. He's one of
- 14:32Speaker 7: the most talented artists I've known that We had him
- 14:36Speaker 7: at Master Appeal had a deal with him and Master Piel.
- 14:38Speaker 7: He put out a project that paper Frank, who did
- 14:41Speaker 7: the Gunner's album cover, shots out to Ghanna, Shouts out
- 14:44Speaker 7: to Frank. You know, they put together an amazing project
- 14:48Speaker 7: with this. Cousin light Year had had a design from
- 14:52Speaker 7: him two three years ago and Frank, she just an
- 14:55Speaker 7: amazing arts O respect and he was on Mass Appeal Records.
- 14:58Speaker 7: We actually about three four years ago and and me
- 15:00Speaker 7: and Cousins were working on a mixtape. I was like,
- 15:02Speaker 7: cuz you we need to double you right back, you
- 15:04Speaker 7: know what I mean. He had a record with Baby.
- 15:05Speaker 7: It was amazing, y'all, y'all check it out. So y'all
- 15:07Speaker 7: like it. And in the middle of it, we had
- 15:11Speaker 7: all these I had all these old records. I kind
- 15:13Speaker 7: of started freestyuse. So he was like, you know, he
- 15:14Speaker 7: was like, man, you know it's COVID. I was like,
- 15:16Speaker 7: I really want to do my record. And he said,
- 15:18Speaker 7: I'm gonna put my career on a whole and I'm
- 15:20Speaker 7: an all your record and do this. And that's my brother.
- 15:24Speaker 4: That love, that's love.
- 15:26Speaker 1: That's love.
- 15:27Speaker 7: And he did that, and you get to hear the
- 15:29Speaker 7: fruit because it was just me and him in the room.
- 15:31Speaker 7: We was only month, but from the from the first
- 15:34Speaker 7: week and we and we did it like a job
- 15:36Speaker 7: because my God's son had just been born. We went
- 15:39Speaker 7: in Monday through Friday. We go in at ten o'clock
- 15:41Speaker 7: while we worked at the today shift, I mean the
- 15:43Speaker 7: third shift. We worked ten to four in the morning,
- 15:45Speaker 7: ten to six in the morning. And we did that
- 15:47Speaker 7: for two and a half years. And we took weekends off,
- 15:50Speaker 7: you know what I mean, let people be their families.
- 15:51Speaker 7: And when I added that kind of structure and disciplined
- 15:53Speaker 7: in my life. The music got even better. I'd always
- 15:55Speaker 7: did good music, but the music got.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Even better and better and better. And that's that's not forming.
- 16:00Speaker 7: And we leaned into it and and that, and we
- 16:02Speaker 7: understood about a month and that what we what we
- 16:04Speaker 7: aiming for is Grammys.
- 16:06Speaker 1: We aiming for.
- 16:07Speaker 7: Is is public accolades by way of making some of
- 16:11Speaker 7: the dopest art possible.
- 16:12Speaker 1: And we pulled the ship off and we're Yeah, were
- 16:15Speaker 1: in the studio, I said, Grammys. The next night. I
- 16:18Speaker 1: was in there with Mike.
- 16:18Speaker 7: We'll shout out the mic and you know, notes shouts
- 16:21Speaker 7: out notes and Wilder, who are from the production team,
- 16:27Speaker 7: that that.
- 16:27Speaker 1: That co producers would run the jewel. So yeah, the
- 16:30Speaker 1: work don't stop.
- 16:31Speaker 3: I'm a big fan of how you love your wife.
- 16:33Speaker 7: I'm happily married.
- 16:34Speaker 3: And I just know that, you know in the industry
- 16:37Speaker 3: where people don't really highlight their significant other the way
- 16:41Speaker 3: that you do. One time, for shake, can you shed
- 16:45Speaker 3: a little light on on your wife? Where were you
- 16:48Speaker 3: in your life when you met her?
- 16:49Speaker 1: Like I was up?
- 16:56Speaker 7: How did y'all cross paths? Like we just had b
- 16:59Speaker 7: T saften she was she was she was. She was
- 17:02Speaker 7: I think she was freshman, like I think she had
- 17:04Speaker 7: just started school. She wanted to be a nurse or
- 17:07Speaker 7: son she wanted to be like she wanted to be
- 17:10Speaker 7: a nurse. And she was at the table and the
- 17:13Speaker 7: homegirl sought me. They who killer like no scared as you,
- 17:16Speaker 7: and the whole girl got excited and she was, you know,
- 17:19Speaker 7: she was fronting on me.
- 17:20Speaker 1: She I ain't know he like, she really counted.
- 17:23Speaker 7: She's introverted in the shot, you know, she looked like
- 17:25Speaker 7: one of these hot girls, but she really be. She
- 17:30Speaker 7: at the end of the table so and I didn't know.
- 17:32Speaker 7: She don't like people playing with a plain ofough food.
- 17:34Speaker 7: She want them German folks. I reached the her plate
- 17:37Speaker 7: and just grabbed son and just ate this piece of shrimp.
- 17:40Speaker 7: And she cussed me out. Well she went off, and thankfully,
- 17:44Speaker 7: you know, I wanted you know, I was pride for
- 17:45Speaker 7: the egotistical at the time. But thankfully I wasn't on
- 17:48Speaker 7: no niggas shit. I'd be like, shut your mother, man,
- 17:50Speaker 7: I ain't you know what I'm saying. It just turned
- 17:52Speaker 7: the damn myth. I was just trying to eat what
- 17:54Speaker 7: you know, I mean, I played off cute got out
- 17:56Speaker 7: of there. But I never forgot what she looked like.
- 17:59Speaker 7: She was this weird colored brown. She had freckles, and
- 18:02Speaker 7: I didn't know she was born a redhead. Her hair
- 18:05Speaker 7: colored was.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I loved her.
- 18:08Speaker 7: It's weird, though it's weird, I just remember it. This
- 18:11Speaker 7: girl was beautiful, but I never forgot what she looked like.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Never forgot.
- 18:15Speaker 7: And I had I was in a party and she
- 18:19Speaker 7: walked in the parties at Big Boys Old house. He
- 18:22Speaker 7: was doing like a radio party remote something and I
- 18:24Speaker 7: seen her walk in and I was.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Like, well, I'll be damn, it's the same girl.
- 18:29Speaker 7: And and seeing her all these other girls walking in too,
- 18:33Speaker 7: and you know, the Atlanta scene is real social. It's
- 18:35Speaker 7: just too many other girls. I'm like, I gotta get
- 18:38Speaker 7: I gotta get by myself, Like I had to get
- 18:39Speaker 7: away from all the other all the dancers gonna speak
- 18:42Speaker 7: to you.
- 18:42Speaker 1: So I just got in the corner by myself.
- 18:44Speaker 7: And she saw me counting by myself and was like,
- 18:46Speaker 7: this is not the same guy, in the same energy,
- 18:49Speaker 7: and she and she had asked her guy friends to
- 18:52Speaker 7: she came with her like in radio intry guys and.
- 18:54Speaker 1: They was like Mike's a nice guy. You see, he's smart.
- 18:56Speaker 7: If he you know, if he attempted to take you out,
- 18:59Speaker 7: you should go out and against her better judgment. She did,
- 19:03Speaker 7: and and I'll never forget she she met me at
- 19:06Speaker 7: the athlete's foot I think across from because she was
- 19:08Speaker 7: having to bringing me.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I think the bitch were for camouflage. God bless the
- 19:12Speaker 1: dead the Savannah rapper.
- 19:13Speaker 7: And shouts out engratulations young lady. But I I neverget
- 19:21Speaker 7: she brought me. She brought it to me, and I
- 19:23Speaker 7: seen her and I remember those eyes and be honest, like,
- 19:25Speaker 7: I remember, I remember the tits and then when she
- 19:29Speaker 7: walked the leave, I said, damn, she got an ass too.
- 19:31Speaker 7: So yeah, like she was in my phone, it's as
- 19:36Speaker 7: nice tits. Like when I went to visit her the
- 19:40Speaker 7: first time I realized I was dating a girl in
- 19:43Speaker 7: the back of the apartments that she had lived in,
- 19:45Speaker 7: and she she was like I remember pulling up on
- 19:48Speaker 7: that girl later like, look, it's been nice.
- 19:50Speaker 1: We done have some great times. But I ain't gonna
- 19:52Speaker 1: I ain't even gonna probably call you.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Know, so you said this over so you broke with everybody,
- 19:57Speaker 3: and kid doing can't I broke everybody?
- 19:59Speaker 7: But that I won't gonna be putting up at your apartment,
- 20:01Speaker 7: like I wan't gonna be the apartment nigga, I won't
- 20:03Speaker 7: gonna do that.
- 20:03Speaker 1: But but I just you know, I loved her and
- 20:06Speaker 1: I still do.
- 20:07Speaker 7: And Ozzy Osborne put up something a few days ago
- 20:10Speaker 7: where he was like, you know, talking about his wife
- 20:11Speaker 7: shared he said, sometimes I love her, sometimes I hate
- 20:14Speaker 7: her sometimes you know, she she she I'm jealous of her.
- 20:19Speaker 7: Just he just had to pull out of emotion. And
- 20:23Speaker 7: and that's really what it is to me, Like, that's
- 20:24Speaker 7: my dog, you know, she she has I remember my
- 20:28Speaker 7: mom saying to me one time.
- 20:29Speaker 1: She was like, why wouldn't you ask me? And then
- 20:32Speaker 1: she's like, nah, I don't worry about it. And I
- 20:33Speaker 1: was like, what, this is my mother?
- 20:35Speaker 7: She said, because you only trust your grandmother and shade
- 20:37Speaker 7: like that in that particular way. You know, her and
- 20:41Speaker 7: my grandmother both geminis. They can be incredibly sweet or
- 20:44Speaker 7: incredibly mean, you know what I mean. But that's my girl,
- 20:47Speaker 7: that's my dog, that's my that's my partner.
- 20:49Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 20:50Speaker 7: I used to tell the dance, but if you want me,
- 20:52Speaker 7: I want you to just go work it out with her.
- 20:55Speaker 1: What made I don't know. If I could tell you
- 20:59Speaker 1: that I could bring the spell, I don't know. Yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 21:03Speaker 3: Just the feeling you have.
- 21:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just you know, and it came straight. Yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 1: And I believe, you know, I don't.
- 21:09Speaker 7: I believe that that love is a complex thing.
- 21:14Speaker 1: You know.
- 21:14Speaker 7: I still love all the children and my mother's I
- 21:16Speaker 7: mean all my all the the mothers of my children,
- 21:19Speaker 7: love them like sincerely love them. I ain't trying to
- 21:21Speaker 7: take nobody from their man, but if they need no
- 21:24Speaker 7: but you know what I'm saying. But but her is
- 21:26Speaker 7: just man, I can't get rid of it. I can't
- 21:28Speaker 7: get rid of it. I'd have tried, she didn't tried.
- 21:31Speaker 7: And here we go.
- 21:32Speaker 5: We'll be right back with more of The Baller Alert Show.
- 21:38Speaker 5: You're listening to a special edition of The Baller Alert Show.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Hey, what's up? Is that boy killer? From the Vial Killer?
- 21:43Speaker 1: Mike Now tuned in the ball Alert Show on Revolt.
- 21:46Speaker 8: Now.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I remember during COVID, you know, it was a lot
- 21:48Speaker 3: of stuff going on in Atlanta, and uh, you know,
- 21:51Speaker 3: they called you a tip to go calm the city down.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Oh you mean the what'son?
- 21:55Speaker 3: I was the Riots, and I always loved the you
- 22:00Speaker 3: articulated yourself just in every situation that I've seen you in,
- 22:03Speaker 3: and I definitely look up to you just as a
- 22:05Speaker 3: as a man.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I appreciate it.
- 22:07Speaker 3: You ever thought about, you know, running, I thought it
- 22:11Speaker 3: was a little my way.
- 22:13Speaker 1: Run. Her shouts out to Alley.
- 22:15Speaker 3: No, I'm talking about running for mayors.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Three.
- 22:19Speaker 4: I'm trying to go on, run.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I try going to tell your music run.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Yeah, so you never you never thought about it at all.
- 22:26Speaker 6: Your daddy did call you a leader?
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah? He did.
- 22:28Speaker 7: My father did You are a leader? And I recognize that.
- 22:31Speaker 7: I just I think that this is I'm called to
- 22:35Speaker 7: do what I'm called to do. And my grandmother told me,
- 22:37Speaker 7: you do what you're called to do while your community,
- 22:39Speaker 7: because that's what you're supposed to do. And right now
- 22:42Speaker 7: in my life, I'm much more comfortable supporting the dynamic
- 22:46Speaker 7: series of mayors Atlanta has had. Each mayor has brought
- 22:49Speaker 7: a series of nuances, improved the city, whether it was
- 22:51Speaker 7: Mayer or city contracts, and the involvement in the Black
- 22:53Speaker 7: Dollar where it was Andy and getting the Olympics here
- 22:56Speaker 7: and again expanding back dollar. What surely's been able to
- 22:58Speaker 7: do the reorganize the cities water system. When she's done
- 23:01Speaker 7: what Cassine did in terms of partnering with the state
- 23:03Speaker 7: and doing things that hadn't been done over forty fifty years,
- 23:06Speaker 7: bringing income. You're keeping Tyler Perry here, what Keisha did?
- 23:09Speaker 7: You know what I mean in terms of just bringing
- 23:11Speaker 7: bring what the water works open and beyond at the
- 23:14Speaker 7: West Side Park, She's been able to do and put
- 23:16Speaker 7: in a pause on a tab a taxation that kept
- 23:19Speaker 7: all people keep the house on the West Side. What
- 23:21Speaker 7: Andre's now doing now in terms of homelessness and affordable housing.
- 23:25Speaker 7: All these mayors have brought something. And since Andy's you
- 23:28Speaker 7: know ran when out five, my redmother had me knocking
- 23:30Speaker 7: on the doors with her. I've supported Atlanta's mayor's Atlanta
- 23:33Speaker 7: City council. You know, you look at Antonio Lewis as
- 23:35Speaker 7: the city counciling down there in the same area that
- 23:37Speaker 7: thug is from.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Now.
- 23:38Speaker 7: Some of the innovative ideas he had, like giving out
- 23:41Speaker 7: those free gun bags and safe so when you leave
- 23:43Speaker 7: your firearm you go into the White House, you might
- 23:45Speaker 7: leave your fire mean and little boys break your window.
- 23:47Speaker 7: Next thing you know, they got a Dangier's farm. Lewis
- 23:49Speaker 7: was passing, was pushing the mayor a measure that would
- 23:53Speaker 7: use a gun bag the same way in my car,
- 23:55Speaker 7: you can't steal it. He gonna have to take the
- 23:57Speaker 7: whole car, the whole seat with him. That's a genius idea.
- 23:59Speaker 1: He knows that because he grew up in in that cord.
- 24:03Speaker 7: So my thing is I rather than right now in
- 24:05Speaker 7: my life, be supporting those type of candidates, supporting the
- 24:08Speaker 7: mayors we have, supporting the city council. The Chamber of
- 24:10Speaker 7: Comments is doing right by us because I would only
- 24:14Speaker 7: be a distraction right now because I still like singing
- 24:16Speaker 7: and dancing and smoking weed to go into the flame.
- 24:18Speaker 7: And I mean, yeah, I ain't nothing wrong with the
- 24:24Speaker 7: mayor going to the flat.
- 24:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna go to the flight while I'm mayor.
- 24:27Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm just gonna.
- 24:32Speaker 1: I'm on the Doday ship right now to give.
- 24:38Speaker 2: But that was my question, what brought you back to,
- 24:41Speaker 2: you know, making this this project because you know, you were,
- 24:46Speaker 2: like you said, like the Dungeon family and all that.
- 24:48Speaker 2: You know, you had a career prior and then it
- 24:51Speaker 2: seemed like you became like a super entrepreneur.
- 24:53Speaker 6: You had the barbershop.
- 24:54Speaker 1: You yeah, isn't it one?
- 24:55Speaker 4: It's one?
- 24:56Speaker 7: Yeah, But you can't forget this little thing called Run
- 24:59Speaker 7: the Jewels. Run the Jewels is a rap group. For
- 25:02Speaker 7: the eleven last eleven years has been one of the
- 25:04Speaker 7: most successful touring rap groups in the world. Run the
- 25:07Speaker 7: Jewels one, two and three and four one t J four.
- 25:10Speaker 7: We've been compared to groups as vast as outcasts, groups
- 25:14Speaker 7: that has a longevity eight Bolling m JG. We've been
- 25:16Speaker 7: said to be a rap group operating in the rock
- 25:18Speaker 7: and roll world. We play one hundred thousand people at
- 25:22Speaker 7: Glacksonbury and over in the UK. We pay on average
- 25:25Speaker 7: forty to fifty thousand people at things like pitch Forth VEZ.
- 25:28Speaker 1: So I was good.
- 25:29Speaker 6: Okay, so you last Ben you never stopped.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Never stopped, a big rich I'm good.
- 25:35Speaker 7: Don't nobody cry for me, don't ye like I suffered
- 25:39Speaker 7: the first nine years of my career figuring out who
- 25:41Speaker 7: I was. I met LP. We produced and put out
- 25:45Speaker 7: rap music twelve years ago from William Street's Records here,
- 25:48Speaker 7: which reinvented who I Was. That led to a group
- 25:51Speaker 7: called Run the Jews. If for the last eleven years
- 25:53Speaker 7: been dominant on the touring, on tour, and you know
- 25:56Speaker 7: rap charts, We've had a number ten record come in
- 25:59Speaker 7: terms of bill Board, We've been number one rap. So
- 26:01Speaker 7: I've never not had a career. I just ain't been
- 26:03Speaker 7: with my people.
- 26:04Speaker 1: You understand. I said, I know you love me running
- 26:06Speaker 1: the Jewels, but these my nigga flows.
- 26:08Speaker 7: I said that because I had been an accent from y'all,
- 26:11Speaker 7: But nigga, I'm back and I brought a broom. So
- 26:14Speaker 7: what kept me going was the fact I never stopped.
- 26:17Speaker 7: My greatest talent has just been consistency. Just keeps showing up,
- 26:21Speaker 7: Get up and show up. If I had this attitude
- 26:23Speaker 7: toward the gym, I'll be honest for us and nap
- 26:24Speaker 7: you know what I mean. Lord knows I'm trying to develop.
- 26:26Speaker 1: It, but you just keep getting up and keep rapping.
- 26:29Speaker 7: So what happened is run the Jews has We've had
- 26:32Speaker 7: a successful four album run again.
- 26:34Speaker 1: We just did. We just did.
- 26:37Speaker 7: We did sixteen shows in four different cities. We did
- 26:39Speaker 7: in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and LA. We did
- 26:42Speaker 7: all four of our albums every night. We did a
- 26:45Speaker 7: different album every night. Every show was sold out, including
- 26:48Speaker 7: the Eastern in Atlanta, So don't again.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I'm good y'all. You know what I'm saying when I
- 26:52Speaker 1: say enrich a nigga nigga rich for real? Right?
- 26:54Speaker 7: But I understood right when I was raking rap music.
- 26:59Speaker 7: If you I don't want to have to do what
- 27:01Speaker 7: others want you to do, You're gonna have to learn
- 27:03Speaker 7: to become an entrepreneur. I bought my first barbershop over
- 27:05Speaker 7: the internet. My wife told me I was crazy and
- 27:07Speaker 7: then talked to me for two weeks because she said,
- 27:09Speaker 7: you should have let them go out of business and
- 27:11Speaker 7: just when they got space. She's always been a business
- 27:13Speaker 7: savvy woman. We now have three, including one in Phillips Arena,
- 27:17Speaker 7: I mean Well States, and we're broadening to three more
- 27:21Speaker 7: in the up and coming year. And what we really
- 27:22Speaker 7: have is a brand masquerading as a shop. Because the
- 27:25Speaker 7: swag shop shells hoodies, we sell the olders, we sell soaps,
- 27:28Speaker 7: we sell a bunch of things that men don't want.
- 27:30Speaker 7: I don't want to have to leave the barber shop.
- 27:32Speaker 7: Go to the beauty supply store, go to the men
- 27:34Speaker 7: want it all right there? You know, my wife could
- 27:36Speaker 7: shop all day and everything in the same store.
- 27:38Speaker 1: I like getting.
- 27:39Speaker 7: Everything on one stop shop. So we found a formula
- 27:43Speaker 7: that helps us so that real estate development. I knew
- 27:46Speaker 7: that I was on the west side. I knew that
- 27:47Speaker 7: that was four mile driving to downtown or walking in downtown.
- 27:50Speaker 7: I knew that made since my grandparents had I owned
- 27:53Speaker 7: a house. They never saw my grandpa's house. They always
- 27:55Speaker 7: had something to go. I said, how can I maximize

- 27:59Speaker 1: Of nowhere one time?
- 28:00Speaker 7: When about our first property? That door's grown into multiple

- 28:17Speaker 7: And you know my art teacher, Mster Murray, who now
- 28:20Speaker 7: teaches his kids to grow food. What would tell us
- 28:22Speaker 7: you need to buy around? So black folks ain't crazy?
- 28:26Speaker 7: And I didn't have to find no internet crew. Y'all,
- 28:28Speaker 7: y'all stop giving these niggas y'all money to give y'all advice.
- 28:31Speaker 7: Y'all can find yourself. All you gotta do is put
- 28:33Speaker 7: a little work in. All you gotta do is be
- 28:35Speaker 7: willing to stay up a little later. And we'd I
- 28:36Speaker 7: see shan to do it all the time. She'll hear
- 28:38Speaker 7: about son, she'll go investigate it, she'll go read it,
- 28:41Speaker 7: she'll teach me about it.
- 28:42Speaker 1: You know what I mean, just stuff, I go investigate
- 28:44Speaker 1: on my awmbles. Stop giving people money trying to do
- 28:46Speaker 1: it the fast away. Sometimes you just gotta you.
- 28:48Speaker 7: Gotta do it, you know, you know you you know
- 28:49Speaker 7: what a house rent for depending on this condition, get something,
- 28:52Speaker 7: get a duplex, live on one side, rent the other side.
- 28:55Speaker 7: So just common sense brought me to it. And then
- 28:57Speaker 7: I just start and then and then as your money grow,
- 29:00Speaker 7: you know, you take advice from people you' seen do
- 29:02Speaker 7: it well.
- 29:02Speaker 1: You ask them.
- 29:03Speaker 7: So whether that's big boy who's been amazingly smart with money,
- 29:06Speaker 7: Shaquille O'Neil, people like that, they start talking about investing.
- 29:09Speaker 6: You know, you start, what was some of the advice
- 29:10Speaker 6: they gave you?
- 29:11Speaker 7: Man invest, invest and find a find a sound financial person,
- 29:15Speaker 7: not somebody who's trying to give you a return in
- 29:17Speaker 7: ninety days, and make the long term twenty year investments
- 29:20Speaker 7: about stocks you by bunch, you don't look.
- 29:21Speaker 1: At them for twenty thirty years.
- 29:22Speaker 7: You're you're planning a seed for a tree that's gonna
- 29:25Speaker 7: grow you might not never get to see. But you
- 29:27Speaker 7: gotta y'all live. I'm gonna tell you the first thing
- 29:29Speaker 7: all of us can do. Live at a below your means.
- 29:32Speaker 7: Get a monthly budget for yourself. What's my budget? My budget?
- 29:36Speaker 7: I average about twenty thousand dollars a month at one point,
- 29:39Speaker 7: so I know I gotta make quarter million dollars.
- 29:41Speaker 1: A year just to meet bills and budget. So you
- 29:43Speaker 1: start to say to yourself.
- 29:45Speaker 7: Shit, boy, I might not need the goddamn do this,
- 29:48Speaker 7: goddamn nobu tonight.
- 29:50Speaker 1: What that's a doll I don't want to go over
- 29:52Speaker 1: and for you.
- 29:53Speaker 7: What you'll be saying is, man, I don't think Sponge
- 29:56Speaker 7: Divis is gonna do it for me tonight.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I need to say this. Three hundred bucks shout ain't
- 30:00Speaker 1: gonna fuck anyway to the niggas. Aint gonna get on
- 30:09Speaker 1: that meat.
- 30:14Speaker 6: Advice for Valentine's Day coming up?
- 30:17Speaker 1: Oh do something man. I remember me and Shane was
- 30:19Speaker 1: we was on our.
- 30:20Speaker 7: Ass and well, I again I was, you know, we're
- 30:24Speaker 7: still kind of danged.
- 30:25Speaker 1: So it was like, you know, it was a few
- 30:26Speaker 1: thousand dollars show here, but.
- 30:28Speaker 7: Man, she she laid out a blanket and she had
- 30:32Speaker 7: made a picnic for us, and we did.
- 30:34Speaker 1: A It was so sweet, kind of like this poor girl.
- 30:36Speaker 1: I could have took her to the.
- 30:36Speaker 7: Steakhouse and she just did a picnic right there in
- 30:40Speaker 7: the middle of like an extra bedroom o place. And
- 30:42Speaker 7: I've never forgotten that it was out one. So I'm
- 30:45Speaker 7: just tell people out there, you know, it's cool to
- 30:47Speaker 7: buy stuff and to have expectations and stuff, but you know,
- 30:51Speaker 7: just do something nice for each other. Write each other letter,
- 30:53Speaker 7: prepare food for each other. You know, you can bottle
- 30:56Speaker 7: of per film and a boll of the colown. You know,
- 30:58Speaker 7: set a budget of for yourself, say we only go
- 31:00Speaker 7: spend one hundred, one hundred and fifty bucks on each other,
- 31:02Speaker 7: you know.
- 31:02Speaker 1: What I mean?
- 31:03Speaker 7: And and that way you not out of her fifty
- 31:05Speaker 7: cent talk about his grandfather and his grandmother that my
- 31:07Speaker 7: grandparents were similar.
- 31:08Speaker 1: He says.
- 31:09Speaker 7: His grandfather is brought to check home his grandmother. He said,
- 31:11Speaker 7: how the hell he's got your grandfather? You're crazy, man,
- 31:13Speaker 7: what you're doing you're just giving all your money. But
- 31:15Speaker 7: if a woman is like Proverbs, you know, was a
- 31:18Speaker 7: Proverbs thirty one ten to thirty one, talk about a
- 31:20Speaker 7: virtuous woman, the type of woman you want. She gonna
- 31:22Speaker 7: a woman see the money, she know the budget in
- 31:24Speaker 7: her head. All you give what I'm saying. So if
- 31:26Speaker 7: you say, you know, if you say, well we don't
- 31:28Speaker 7: do two and I know I got two hundred, she
- 31:30Speaker 7: ain't gonna let you take him no place crazy. She's
- 31:32Speaker 7: gonna be care because you know, she's gonna say, well,
- 31:34Speaker 7: if you'd like the perfunerals, he's the three perfumals. I
- 31:36Speaker 7: like the most is eighty three. And that's what you've moved,
- 31:39Speaker 7: really moving like a couple and you in a relationship.
- 31:41Speaker 7: So you know, if that and and if that ain't
- 31:43Speaker 7: how she moved, fuck her for real. It ain't all
- 31:46Speaker 7: the way back because because because you gotta take care
- 31:48Speaker 7: of yourself. And if she not moving that way, she's
- 31:50Speaker 7: not gonna move like that long term. That's a fact,
- 31:52Speaker 7: you know what I mean. She's not gonna move like
- 31:54Speaker 7: that long term. And you want somebody, you want somebody,
- 31:57Speaker 7: or if you're just fucking out, just fuck off, you know,
- 31:58Speaker 7: what I mean, But don't don't get that money matter, man,
- 32:01Speaker 7: That money matter. That matter a lot more than people.
- 32:03Speaker 4: On a lot of people don't. A lot of people
- 32:05Speaker 4: don't want to hear that.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Yeah you don't.
- 32:06Speaker 7: You don't think it matter till you need some and
- 32:08Speaker 7: and and if y'all not locked in like that together,
- 32:11Speaker 7: what y'all can say, Man, we're gonna budget this, so
- 32:12Speaker 7: we still gonna have a good time. It's gonna you're
- 32:14Speaker 7: gonna have to get creative like that. That don't don't
- 32:16Speaker 7: don't waste, don't waste each other's time.
- 32:19Speaker 2: So I just wanted to keep on track. We were
- 32:22Speaker 2: at the Entrepreneur. You had the barbershops.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Then you said seafood opening.
- 32:26Speaker 7: Okay, yep, Me and Tilp talk the old restaurant, bake
- 32:30Speaker 7: here seafood, Miss Hell and Harden and Crystal Peters and
- 32:35Speaker 7: Shane and rendered my wife have done an amazing job
- 32:37Speaker 7: at bringing that fruition. The old building is now a
- 32:39Speaker 7: brand new building. If you drive down down Lee Highway,
- 32:42Speaker 7: I think sixteen sixty five.
- 32:43Speaker 6: I was gonna say that needs to be like a grandfather.
- 32:46Speaker 7: In Yeah, location were down there and we serving alcohol.
- 32:49Speaker 7: You'll be able to get to run the Jewels Beer there.
- 32:51Speaker 7: A lot of you guys don't know running Jewels has
- 32:52Speaker 7: the Spirits company. You can buy and have our stuff
- 32:54Speaker 7: shift to you, but our beer is gonna be served there.
- 32:57Speaker 7: It's an excellent menu. We even got some of y'all vegans.
- 33:00Speaker 7: Do know why y'all don't eat no fish, But we
- 33:01Speaker 7: got you. I got you, my nigga, I promise, and
- 33:05Speaker 7: I want you all to enjoy it. And I'm not
- 33:06Speaker 7: trying to do everything. I'm just trying to do all
- 33:08Speaker 7: the things I wanted to do.
- 33:09Speaker 6: And then where did Greenwood come in?
- 33:11Speaker 7: Greenwood? So Greenwood is a is A is a fintech farm.
- 33:14Speaker 7: It's a banking platform and what it does is partners
- 33:17Speaker 7: with banks that are regional, smaller and willing to have
- 33:21Speaker 7: trust in the working class folks, folks who may not
- 33:23Speaker 7: have had the best credit, Folks who are first timers,
- 33:26Speaker 7: and they just resourced them to get them together. And
- 33:28Speaker 7: they're opening having some other opportunities now in terms of
- 33:31Speaker 7: opening things to help people understand financial literacy. They partner
- 33:34Speaker 7: with an employment firm. Ryan Glover and Paul Judge are
- 33:37Speaker 7: the are the spearhead of that. And you guys probably
- 33:39Speaker 7: should have them come in and talk about it. Because
- 33:41Speaker 7: Ryan's a kid from Oakland who went to Howard University
- 33:44Speaker 7: landing in Atlanta, helped start Noontime Records, came out of
- 33:47Speaker 7: the record industry, created you know, Bounced TV, sold It's
- 33:52Speaker 7: you know, for lots of money, and then decided he
- 33:54Speaker 7: wanted to help people understand finance and help the you know,
- 33:57Speaker 7: the unbanked. Bek and I think he's a hero.
- 34:00Speaker 6: We would love that.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, you set that up.
- 34:02Speaker 3: I get a bear, shoot whoever, I'll get.
- 34:05Speaker 7: Okay, I'm I'm always gonna be here making music in
- 34:08Speaker 7: some capacity, and I understand life get to be, but
- 34:11Speaker 7: I try to make music that's reflective for that. So
- 34:13Speaker 7: I would encourage people. You know, if you never heard
- 34:16Speaker 7: some records, you know, you said, man, well what was
- 34:18Speaker 7: he doing before running? Do that?
- 34:19Speaker 1: Man? Go listen to God in the building.
- 34:21Speaker 7: Wanted two when I was rapping to convince myself not
- 34:23Speaker 7: to stop rapping.
- 34:24Speaker 1: You know, the passion was still there.
- 34:26Speaker 7: The mixes are just better now and I understand how
- 34:28Speaker 7: to make even better record. But yeah, just don't stop.
- 34:30Speaker 7: Whatever your dream is, don't stop. You know what I'm saying, Like,
- 34:33Speaker 7: you know, I want people to understand it. Man, I
- 34:36Speaker 7: make music out of a place of truth and reality
- 34:39Speaker 7: at that time. That truth and reality might be different
- 34:42Speaker 7: ten years later, but I want to see where I
- 34:44Speaker 7: was at that time.
- 34:44Speaker 1: So I had that musical record.
- 34:46Speaker 7: So you know, everybody, get a journal, write down how
- 34:48Speaker 7: you feel now, push forward. If nothing else, I just
- 34:51Speaker 7: want to know I help inspire somebody, whether that was
- 34:53Speaker 7: through talking to an interview, whether it was through music,
- 34:56Speaker 7: or whether it's to my show Love and Respect, How
- 34:58Speaker 7: to Talk Show myself. We got twenty three others sols
- 35:00Speaker 7: up on PBS. You go to PBS type and killing
- 35:02Speaker 7: Mike was right there. You know, look for more of those.
- 35:04Speaker 7: We coming out this year. We want an Emmy for that.
- 35:06Speaker 7: We wanna we wanna a regional Emmy for that. So
- 35:09Speaker 7: I want to Emmy last year. You know, and and
- 35:12Speaker 7: and you can't be you can't say, man, wait around
- 35:14Speaker 7: for everybody to clap and a plot. You got to
- 35:16Speaker 7: move on to your next thing. My next thing was
- 35:17Speaker 7: accomplishing the Grammys. We just like, I'm gonna sell a
- 35:20Speaker 7: lot of brooms. And I was back in the studio
- 35:22Speaker 7: the next night.
- 35:23Speaker 4: So when it's a celebration in Atlanta.
- 35:25Speaker 1: We got we gonna do the celebrator I've heard were
- 35:28Speaker 1: putting something together. Y'all gotta be there.
- 35:29Speaker 3: We got there.
- 35:31Speaker 6: You encourage other artists to put their own money up
- 35:35Speaker 6: to see their dreams through.
- 35:36Speaker 7: No, that is the craziest ship you could do. And
- 35:40Speaker 7: you're gonna have to do it at some point.
- 35:42Speaker 6: So you're gonna have to do it.
- 35:43Speaker 1: We're gonna have to at some point. You're gonna have
- 35:45Speaker 1: to take a risk on yourself.
- 35:46Speaker 7: And that doesn't mean that's a thousands of dollars risks,
- 35:50Speaker 7: But that means that you found a funky little venue
- 35:52Speaker 7: to rent for a few hundred and you make it
- 35:55Speaker 7: look like something, and you figure out a way to
- 35:56Speaker 7: give people something free to drink or and you and
- 35:59Speaker 7: you put a hundred to three hundred people in the room.
- 36:02Speaker 1: That absolutely means that.
- 36:04Speaker 7: It means that when you start making some money before
- 36:07Speaker 7: you buy, before you buy the jewelry, you figure out
- 36:10Speaker 7: how to expand whatever you need, you know, and it
- 36:12Speaker 7: means you pay the people around you too once you
- 36:14Speaker 7: start to grow.
- 36:15Speaker 1: So yeah, you're gonna have to spend.
- 36:16Speaker 5: We'll be right back. Stay tuned with more of the
- 36:18Speaker 5: Baller Alert Show. You're listening to a special edition of
- 36:25Speaker 5: The Baller Alert Show.

- 36:33Speaker 1: Want to know your ship was going to pass them back?
- 36:35Speaker 7: Mister Tyler Perry tall cousin parent who in jail a period.
- 36:42Speaker 4: He probably in there bragging my cousin want to grab.
- 36:46Speaker 2: It's amazing how things change when trophies come into play. Yeah,
- 36:50Speaker 2: a lot of people don't like it, you know, don't
- 36:53Speaker 2: like the Grammys.
- 36:53Speaker 6: They say, you know, we need our own and all
- 36:56Speaker 6: this stuff.
- 36:56Speaker 2: But I feel like it's still important to to some musician,
- 37:00Speaker 2: like even in myself, to have a Grammy.
- 37:02Speaker 7: Yeah, it's important. I mean because there's other people who
- 37:04Speaker 7: do what you do. It's like men, it's being a
- 37:07Speaker 7: plot of the love by your peers. Getting nominated as
- 37:09Speaker 7: an Amazing feat. I ain't gonna lie say I didn't
- 37:11Speaker 7: want them to sweep. I wanted to sweep, and I'm
- 37:13Speaker 7: thinking off the sweep.
- 37:14Speaker 1: But with that said, I still.
- 37:15Speaker 7: Ain't got my BT Awards, I still ain't got my
- 37:18Speaker 7: Essence Awards, so I still want to pick.
- 37:20Speaker 1: Up some awards like it's coming. It's coming recognized like
- 37:24Speaker 1: I want to.
- 37:24Speaker 7: You know, the greatest tragedy of Van Gould's life was
- 37:27Speaker 7: he died before the world realized who he was. You know,
- 37:30Speaker 7: I don't want to die and everybody be talking good
- 37:32Speaker 7: about me.
- 37:33Speaker 1: I'm dead. I want you to come to the party
- 37:35Speaker 1: where the Bruin's gonna be, you know, for real.
- 37:37Speaker 7: So it has remaining ambitious and hungry and a dog
- 37:41Speaker 7: about it as an artist, you know, absolutely now to
- 37:44Speaker 7: win these things. It's a matter of work, you know,
- 37:47Speaker 7: because because you know, just because the artists dope, and
- 37:49Speaker 7: even just because your audience like it doesn't mean everyone's
- 37:52Speaker 7: seeing it, you know, Like I get why, uh what
- 37:56Speaker 7: the what they called him?
- 37:57Speaker 1: I rock Z?
- 37:57Speaker 7: Does the Z manials disea all my niggas thats Z's
- 38:01Speaker 7: out there. Let me tell you something, man, I understand
- 38:05Speaker 7: what it's like to turn off have fun ball. But boy,
- 38:08Speaker 7: when your mama died, yes, oh man, when your mama
- 38:11Speaker 7: died and you ain't got a song to fit that, man,
- 38:16Speaker 7: be it bro got you something. Because my mama died.
- 38:18Speaker 2: I couldn't even listen to that song that you made motherless.
- 38:22Speaker 2: I couldn't even listen to it.
- 38:24Speaker 7: It's I made my man Harold, who was amazing writing.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Man. Harold say, you know you're not rapping. What do
- 38:31Speaker 1: you mean? He said, you're a bluesman. You're talking about
- 38:34Speaker 1: working class people's life. And yeah, so that's a responsibility.
- 38:38Speaker 1: So that's a responsibility on the record.
- 38:40Speaker 7: I tell homis man like, I put something on here
- 38:43Speaker 7: for you now. You might not be ready for it now,
- 38:46Speaker 7: but when you need it, it's gonna be.
- 38:48Speaker 1: There for you.
- 38:49Speaker 8: Listen.
- 38:50Speaker 2: I was listening to the album on the way here too.
- 38:51Speaker 2: When Motherless came on. I had to I just recently
- 38:54Speaker 2: lost my mom, but I could not listen to it
- 38:57Speaker 2: because I didn't want to room a makeup. I'm like,
- 38:59Speaker 2: I can't listen to this right now. But you are
- 39:01Speaker 2: preaching on there and I appreciate it, Kendrick said. Critics
- 39:05Speaker 2: who want to mention when hip hop was rapping, if
- 39:08Speaker 2: you did.
- 39:08Speaker 6: Killer Michael will be platinum. Do you feel like the Grammy's.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Doing it right? Man?
- 39:13Speaker 7: We helped prove the right, you know, like like and
- 39:15Speaker 7: I say, you know, if I was a Kidred fan,
- 39:17Speaker 7: I'm definitely gonna be like, man, let me see what
- 39:18Speaker 7: shouted because he influenced. Like for me, man, when I hear,
- 39:22Speaker 7: when I hear, when I hear one of the people
- 39:25Speaker 7: that I look up to love and the door reference something.
- 39:28Speaker 1: I used to write it down.
- 39:29Speaker 7: I used to have to go to the library or
- 39:30Speaker 7: go to the encyclopedia. Now you just put it on
- 39:32Speaker 7: the phone. I want to hear that, you know what
- 39:34Speaker 7: I'm saying. I want to hear that like I didn't.
- 39:36Speaker 7: I didn't you know, I didn't when you when when
- 39:39Speaker 7: I could tell who was really in the music. When
- 39:42Speaker 7: when Kanye started working with Mike Dean and I seen
- 39:45Speaker 7: the kids that pop up and said.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Mike Dean didn't he used to rap? Didn't he used
- 39:50Speaker 1: to rap?
- 39:50Speaker 7: They said, used to lights up dooring that stop, they said.
- 39:52Speaker 7: With Scarface, I said, oh that's.
- 39:54Speaker 1: A he like me. That's a little music nerd. He
- 39:56Speaker 1: reading credits. He want to know where to pun.
- 39:59Speaker 7: And then it was like you look at Scarface's tiny
- 40:01Speaker 7: desk that over everybody's going crazy about.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Right there next to them, it's Mike. Mike.
- 40:04Speaker 7: They've been partners and they made they you know, for
- 40:08Speaker 7: thirty forty years. That's what's amazing, Like they're such a
- 40:12Speaker 7: richer tapestry if you're just willing to dig deeper, if
- 40:15Speaker 7: you're just willing to get curious, that's all I want
- 40:18Speaker 7: people to do.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Get curious about art.
- 40:20Speaker 7: Don't just say well, this is the art that I'm
- 40:22Speaker 7: being told is it for now? And we're part of
- 40:24Speaker 7: this artistic mama. But what drives it?
- 40:26Speaker 8: What?
- 40:27Speaker 7: What has inspired the artists that I admire? Because I
- 40:30Speaker 7: guarantee if you do that, you become a richer artist.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Yourself.
- 40:33Speaker 3: Question before we get up out of here, when Killer
- 40:36Speaker 3: Mike's having a bad day, because we all have bad
- 40:38Speaker 3: day yesterday, Actually, what what do you do?
- 40:41Speaker 1: Who do you talk to? Somebody? Do you have Do
- 40:43Speaker 1: you have a therapist? They talk to Lloyd I like wife.
- 40:47Speaker 1: So when you're having a bad day like my wife.
- 40:49Speaker 7: Maybe gonna start seeing it there. It's pretty cool. I
- 40:51Speaker 7: give it Tona to Prano marijuana therapy, you know what
- 40:54Speaker 7: I mean? I watched Toni and Prano because I can't
- 40:56Speaker 7: identify the character you're trying to keep it all together,
- 40:59Speaker 7: you know, marijuana. I think it helps with my anxieties.
- 41:03Speaker 7: And ultimately, my grandmother told me, which is essentially just
- 41:06Speaker 7: a former of of self meditation sources.
- 41:09Speaker 1: You meditate to quiet my mind. You know, he's amens
- 41:12Speaker 1: to just be.
- 41:13Speaker 7: Quiet and I talk to God, because God's in you.
- 41:17Speaker 7: God's not separate from you. God's all around you and
- 41:20Speaker 7: covered you and in you. And sometimes you just have
- 41:23Speaker 7: to get quiet and just and just talk to to
- 41:26Speaker 7: the God that hits in you. I encourage you as
- 41:28Speaker 7: an old guy back in the seventies and eighties called
- 41:31Speaker 7: Reverend Ike. My grandmother loved her. My grandmother just my
- 41:34Speaker 7: grandmother adored them, and my grandfather thought it was because
- 41:37Speaker 7: the nigga dressed fans that had just wave back. My
- 41:40Speaker 7: granddad had a waver after your light skined or Reverendight
- 41:42Speaker 7: with dog skined at all. After I got older, you know,
- 41:45Speaker 7: because my grandmother she would drag us along in church,
- 41:47Speaker 7: but she was she was very quiet about her life
- 41:49Speaker 7: of Reverend Ike. But I'll start watching this stuff on
- 41:52Speaker 7: YouTube and the same stuff that the people who go
- 41:55Speaker 7: on the talk shows, they charge you a bunch of
- 41:57Speaker 7: money for their books. That wife ol stuff we buying
- 42:00Speaker 7: from the white folk God unless they sold.
- 42:02Speaker 1: Reverend Night We're giving you for free. You just go
- 42:04Speaker 1: on YouTube when he talks about the reality of God,
- 42:07Speaker 1: is that God is in you and prayer is. It's not.
- 42:11Speaker 7: Prayer is an active thing. You pray, you work, you move,
- 42:15Speaker 7: you strive. And he talked about that, and he talks
- 42:19Speaker 7: about how innately you have to manifest things.
- 42:22Speaker 1: Out of your mind. So I talk to God all
- 42:24Speaker 1: the time.
- 42:25Speaker 7: I get prayers answer on more days not I could
- 42:29Speaker 7: have a bad day and the next day, Man, here
- 42:31Speaker 7: the Lord is, and it was meant for me to
- 42:34Speaker 7: suffer that bad day that I may appreciate the good day.
- 42:37Speaker 7: You know, if you read the story of Job in
- 42:38Speaker 7: the Bible, you know Joe was a man who spotless,
- 42:41Speaker 7: who was seamless, you know, in terms that he was
- 42:43Speaker 7: tight for God. And the devil told God, you know,
- 42:45Speaker 7: he only liked that because you ain't never let me
- 42:48Speaker 7: put my hands on them. You ain't never let me
- 42:50Speaker 7: lay him down. And I promise you, if I get
- 42:53Speaker 7: a chance put my hands on him, he'll deny you,
- 42:55Speaker 7: you know.
- 42:55Speaker 1: What I mean.
- 42:56Speaker 7: And Joe stayed faithful through all the suffering, through loss
- 42:59Speaker 7: of his family, has lost his fortune, he says, and
- 43:01Speaker 7: God restore him, you know, and God gave him peace.
- 43:05Speaker 7: So for me, I just figured, you know, bad days
- 43:07Speaker 7: are gonna come, and I should appreciate them like I
- 43:09Speaker 7: appreciate the good days because God is always with me. Amen.
- 43:13Speaker 6: Now you had you run all the Grammys and you're
- 43:16Speaker 6: on a run right now. What's next for killing Mike?
- 43:19Speaker 7: I guess they'll send me to the next interview. Hopefully
- 43:21Speaker 7: we get lunch. But I'm back in the studio working,

- 43:39Speaker 1: one day.

- 44:05Speaker 2: you teach. Every time you say everything you are preaching, well.
- 44:08Speaker 7: I'm always learning too, and I just want to I
- 44:10Speaker 7: just want to say, man, I just man. I want
- 44:12Speaker 7: to thank Reverend Senator, Reverend Rafael or not. He called
- 44:15Speaker 7: and prayed with me out of know what the other morning,
- 44:17Speaker 7: and I just want to just give you some of
- 44:19Speaker 7: that positive prayper because I know how hard it is
- 44:22Speaker 7: to lose a mother, and just know that you will
- 44:25Speaker 7: be in my thoughts and prayers. And although physically we
- 44:28Speaker 7: go the manifestation her energy never will because you are
- 44:31Speaker 7: absolutely glowing. You're a radiant class regal acting A woman's
