- 2:30Speaker 4: Might have to come up to hang with you guys.
- 2:32Speaker 10: Come on up, you're gonna come for this one?
- 2:35Speaker 4: Well, I have to. We're not going to be on
- 2:37Speaker 4: the radio.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I think everybody should be there. You know. It's you're
- 2:40Speaker 1: welcoming in the new coach, new head coach.
- 2:43Speaker 6: It's exciting, you know.
- 2:45Speaker 11: I will say I went home over the weekend from
- 2:47Speaker 11: my mom's birthday and there was just so much excitement
- 2:50Speaker 11: back home over him being hired, and like he's all
- 2:52Speaker 11: over the front pages of everything, all over the news.
- 2:55Speaker 1: It's all back home being Virginia.
- 2:57Speaker 11: Yeah. Why because he's from there. He's from like we're
- 3:00Speaker 11: from the same place.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Oh wow yeah, okay, yeah.
- 3:03Speaker 11: So it's like just kind of cool to see like
- 3:05Speaker 11: his high school coaches like talking about him in the paper.
- 3:07Speaker 11: Actually brought a paper home with me.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Nice. We got an ask BFW from one of his
- 3:11Speaker 4: former teachers.
- 3:12Speaker 10: Wow, it's really cool.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Who says that he had Gerard in the seventh grade
- 3:18Speaker 4: algebra one class. Yeah, at the Jones Magnet Middle School.
- 3:22Speaker 4: It was Ampton Virginia nice his algebra, Yeah, well terribly.
- 3:29Speaker 7: He just couldn't figure out spatial things like geometry.
- 3:31Speaker 1: He did.
- 3:31Speaker 4: He did say that please give Gerard the message that
- 3:34Speaker 4: I still have a project that he submitted titled why
- 3:38Speaker 4: will algebra help me in the future? Oh wow, which,
- 3:42Speaker 4: of course the answer is it won't.
- 3:44Speaker 1: So that could be one of your questions because tomorrow
- 3:46Speaker 1: you'll sit down with him tomorrow.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Do you have that? Do you have that email tomorrow?
- 3:49Speaker 1: I can't you first question, why will algebra help you
- 3:54Speaker 1: in this new role?
- 3:55Speaker 11: I like that because teachers all the time would be like,
- 3:58Speaker 11: you're gonna need math like all the time time when
- 4:00Speaker 11: you get when you get older, and I'm like, no,
- 4:02Speaker 11: I just used my calculator. I'm not in my head
- 4:05Speaker 11: doing tips. Some people are good at that. For me,
- 4:07Speaker 11: I'm using my phone every time.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, Well to us, he just double the tack.
- 4:12Speaker 11: They lied to us. I mean, even like how they
- 4:14Speaker 11: told us we're gonna have to use cursive for the
- 4:15Speaker 11: rest of our laps. Do we really need to?
- 4:17Speaker 1: Well, they didn't know. I don't blame it, but it's
- 4:21Speaker 1: got to be exciting Tomorrow, big day, big big hoo ha.
- 4:25Speaker 6: So it's got the big who ha, big.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Who hot tomorrow it's something different.
- 4:33Speaker 8: Oh really.
- 4:37Speaker 6: A big to do, you know, definitely a big to do.
- 4:40Speaker 7: But uh it sounds like he's been making some calls
- 4:42Speaker 7: and interviewing the special teams coach from the Falcons.
- 4:45Speaker 1: He's got to get busy.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Oh did I miss that one? Who's that one? Uh yeah,
- 4:51Speaker 4: I caught that up.
- 4:52Speaker 6: I forget it's uh forget.
- 4:56Speaker 10: Marquise Williams is from the Falcons special teams coordinator and
- 5:00Speaker 10: Tim Lubaku is currently with the Panthers outside linebackers coach.
- 5:04Speaker 10: But uh yeah, just looking at Falcons Twitter a little
- 5:08Speaker 10: bit yesterday before the other big Falcons Twitter news that
- 5:11Speaker 10: we can get to you, they were upset like that
- 5:15Speaker 10: they might lose Marquise Williams. I guess he's considered a
- 5:18Speaker 10: pretty good special teams coach by by everybody down there
- 5:22Speaker 10: that follows the team and high regard, held in high regard.
- 5:26Speaker 7: Be funny if Bill went there and then we swiped
- 5:28Speaker 7: his well, but I'm.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Thinking about it, so we know. You know, it's not
- 5:35Speaker 1: a secret that the Falcons have already announced that they
- 5:38Speaker 1: have interest in Bill.
- 5:39Speaker 10: I don't know if they've had an interview.
- 5:43Speaker 1: The rumors that, you know, the feeling is likewise that
- 5:46Speaker 1: he's interested in them. So if he goes there, does
- 5:50Speaker 1: he bring cam Accord with him? Does he bring Joe
- 5:52Speaker 1: Judge with him? And does that? Is that special teams
- 5:55Speaker 1: coordinator already you know, figuring out okay, what's next me?
- 6:00Speaker 1: And so he says, well, I'll go to the Patriots.
- 6:03Speaker 11: Do you think he would want to start fresh with
- 6:04Speaker 11: special teams just with the way everything has gone?
- 6:06Speaker 4: Nope, I don't know.
- 6:07Speaker 10: I think I think he's I think you would take
- 6:09Speaker 10: every last one of the coaches that he trusts from
- 6:11Speaker 10: here that he could possibly just sit down there. But
- 6:14Speaker 10: they already blocked Williams from interviewing with another team. So
- 6:18Speaker 10: he's under contract with Atlanta at the moment, so they
- 6:21Speaker 10: already blocked him, I guess earlier in the cycle from
- 6:24Speaker 10: interviewing with somebody. So the Patriots put in a request
- 6:27Speaker 10: to interview him.
- 6:28Speaker 4: I haven't heard. Oh so you don't know.
- 6:30Speaker 10: I haven't heard it. It's been granted or not yet.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Well that's the thing, you know.
- 6:34Speaker 4: The other one was New Orleans is the one that requests.
- 6:37Speaker 1: If the thing heats up with Bill and he makes
- 6:39Speaker 1: it clear that Yeah, I'm bringing as many of my
- 6:42Speaker 1: staff as I can. Then maybe the Falcons will allow
- 6:46Speaker 1: him to have the interview. It's what's going to happen
- 6:50Speaker 1: in the next month is going to be unbelievably fascinating.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I mean, you know, between the Cowboys losing in that job,
- 6:56Speaker 1: perhaps opening up the Falcons interest. Uh what's his name?
- 7:02Speaker 1: Harball supposedly has already talked to the Chargers. You know,
- 7:06Speaker 1: I think that would be a home run for them. Yeah,
- 7:08Speaker 1: it makes sense, doesn't it.
- 7:10Speaker 10: Yeah, So Williams was denied an interview with the Giants,
- 7:14Speaker 10: so the Giants put in a request to interview him
- 7:16Speaker 10: and the Falcons.
- 7:18Speaker 4: So it'd be interesting if maybe when they met with
- 7:20Speaker 4: Bill yesterday Atlanta and they said, you know, there is
- 7:24Speaker 4: a guy that we think very highly of on the staff.
- 7:27Speaker 4: If because remember when Bill came here, there were guys
- 7:30Speaker 4: that he ended up keeping, you know, and wasn't just Dante, right,
- 7:34Speaker 4: you know, Ivan Fears was already here. Yeah, there was
- 7:40Speaker 4: was Brad Seely. No, there was somebody else too. There
- 7:44Speaker 4: are a couple of guys that were already here and
- 7:46Speaker 4: he retained them.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Well, Charlie was already here. No, oh, no, no, no, no,
- 7:49Speaker 1: no he didn't.
- 7:50Speaker 4: He took all those guys with him from the Jets.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Right trying to think who from uh.
- 7:57Speaker 11: Uh?
- 7:58Speaker 1: What's his name?
- 8:00Speaker 8: That Cey?
- 8:01Speaker 1: He's got a son who coaches high school here now, oh,
- 8:09Speaker 1: begin with an s is last? No, not sweatman. You're
- 8:14Speaker 1: getting closed though, anyhoy, Samson, I I'll think of it.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I'll think of it Smith.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Anyway, sound chance? So building these staffs is going to
- 8:25Speaker 1: be priority one for for Gerrod.
- 8:28Speaker 6: And what happens to Stephen Brian.
- 8:29Speaker 7: I mean I saw the report over the weekend that
- 8:31Speaker 7: they were extended the opportunity to stay. But would they
- 8:34Speaker 7: go with their dad? Or you know what I mean?
- 8:35Speaker 7: What's the best thing for those guys right now?
- 8:37Speaker 1: To you know, well, you know, I think the best
- 8:39Speaker 1: thing for them, and everybody thinks the same thing is
- 8:42Speaker 1: to get out under their dad and make their own way.
- 8:47Speaker 1: The Patriots offering them jobs, to me, it's two things.
- 8:51Speaker 1: It's it's admitting or recognizing that, hey, they did a
- 8:56Speaker 1: good job. Why why wouldn't we want to keep them?
- 8:59Speaker 1: And particular saying that because he was intimately involved with
- 9:03Speaker 1: Steve in running the defense. So if he's willing to
- 9:07Speaker 1: have Steve back then. You know, what we were thinking
- 9:13Speaker 1: might be the case probably was that he's a pretty
- 9:15Speaker 1: good coach. Yeah, you know, I was like, why would
- 9:18Speaker 1: he offer him a job if, like, because he knows
- 9:20Speaker 1: what he did we don't.
- 9:23Speaker 10: Yeah, you know, I was listening to a t one
- 9:25Speaker 10: of Paul's shows and they had Phil Perry on, who
- 9:27Speaker 10: obviously it's pretty close to Gerard, and he just said
- 9:30Speaker 10: that they're right now. He's hearing that they're weary of
- 9:34Speaker 10: changing too much about what was going on here with Bill,
- 9:37Speaker 10: Like they you know, they don't want they don't want
- 9:40Speaker 10: anything too much, you know, to all of a sudden,
- 9:44Speaker 10: we're blowing it up and it's a whole new coaching staff,
- 9:46Speaker 10: a whole new front office, whole new head coach and
- 9:49Speaker 10: everything like that. So I trying to keep the Belichick
- 9:52Speaker 10: boys would be along those lines of like let's keep
- 9:55Speaker 10: some continuity of what was going on here.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Well, plus, you know, you know, if it's saying that, yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 1: they're good coaches, but also if Bill's sons are with
- 10:05Speaker 1: New England Patriots, doesn't that kind of like take some
- 10:09Speaker 1: of the frost off of anything that might be freezing
- 10:12Speaker 1: over at this point like, I know that it was
- 10:14Speaker 1: an amicable breakup and everything like that. But now if
- 10:18Speaker 1: he gets another job coaching, you're right, you're competing with him,
- 10:23Speaker 1: But if your sons are here, then maybe you know
- 10:27Speaker 1: that he has a little bit more of a soft
- 10:30Speaker 1: spot for the Patriots.
- 10:31Speaker 4: I think it's what Evan is talking about. I think
- 10:33Speaker 4: that they've been a little bit reluctant, you know, the
- 10:36Speaker 4: whole ripping the band aid off isn't happening, And I
- 10:39Speaker 4: think that's part of it. I think they're going out
- 10:42Speaker 4: of their way to keep as much as they can
- 10:46Speaker 4: the other part of it. And maybe this is a
- 10:49Speaker 4: sort of a different viewpoint, you know. And I get
- 10:51Speaker 4: the idea that Stephen Bryan might be better served to
- 10:55Speaker 4: go coach somewhere, you know, without their father. But do
- 10:58Speaker 4: you really get that if you stay with the team
- 11:00Speaker 4: that you've already been at for ten years, Like if
- 11:03Speaker 4: they keep coaching with the Patriots, they're just doing what
- 11:05Speaker 4: they've been doing. No, but no, But if you're going
- 11:07Speaker 4: to like forge your own way, then Brian should get
- 11:11Speaker 4: a job, you know, with the Seahawks, and Steve should
- 11:13Speaker 4: go and head up the Bears defense. That's like truly
- 11:16Speaker 4: going out on your own.
- 11:18Speaker 1: It is, it's more. But you know, without Bill here,
- 11:22Speaker 1: they do have to do it their own way, you know,
- 11:24Speaker 1: So I still think but I.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Think it's already established in something they've done for a decade.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but they have you know, they have to keep
- 11:31Speaker 1: doing it, you know, without him, you know, helping them
- 11:35Speaker 1: every game day, you know. So I do think it
- 11:38Speaker 1: helps them that.
- 11:40Speaker 4: It's better than just staying with their father. But I
- 11:43Speaker 4: don't really see the big difference. I think that the
- 11:46Speaker 4: from what I've been told, you know, talking to people
- 11:48Speaker 4: around the building a little bit, you know, just the
- 11:52Speaker 4: reluctance of they both have young families and they have
- 11:56Speaker 4: roots here. They would like it to they would like
- 11:58Speaker 4: to stay here.
- 12:00Speaker 1: But if you're the craft if you're the Crafts and
- 12:03Speaker 1: you're going over them, what went wrong? Right, if you're
- 12:08Speaker 1: willing to keep somebody, I don't forget, forget who it is,
- 12:11Speaker 1: whether it's Steve Belichick or Macro, you're kind of saying
- 12:15Speaker 1: that they may not have been part of the problem, right,
- 12:19Speaker 1: And you have to be saying that because if you
- 12:21Speaker 1: think they were, then why would you keep them?
- 12:23Speaker 10: So then Bill was the only problem.
- 12:25Speaker 1: I think that might be the assumption.
- 12:26Speaker 4: I mean, it's hard to not come away I know
- 12:28Speaker 4: that that was a little flippant, but it's hard to
- 12:31Speaker 4: not come away with that impression that they feel like
- 12:35Speaker 4: the coach was the only problem.
- 12:37Speaker 1: We hear stories that they're not rushing into a GM search.
- 12:40Speaker 1: They may not even get one.
- 12:42Speaker 4: It's had stories that they're not going to do it
- 12:44Speaker 4: at all.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Right, so forget about rushing. If that's the case. In
- 12:47Speaker 1: macro stays, in Elliott wolf stays, then you are saying that,
- 12:52Speaker 1: you know what, maybe it wasn't as collaborative as it
- 12:56Speaker 1: should have been. Maybe we need to give these guys
- 12:59Speaker 1: a chance. We're hearing enough from them about what really
- 13:03Speaker 1: went on that we're going to keep them. Because, like
- 13:05Speaker 1: I said, if you're if you say your house is
- 13:08Speaker 1: falling apart, you replace the house. So what they're saying
- 13:12Speaker 1: is the house wasn't falling apart, it was just the
- 13:15Speaker 1: furnace that the guy that built it.
- 13:17Speaker 11: I'll be interested to see, like what they do on
- 13:19Speaker 11: the offensive set of the ball, because keeping Steve and
- 13:21Speaker 11: Brian I'm good with, because the defense was for the
- 13:24Speaker 11: most part, they did the best they could without the injuries.
- 13:27Speaker 11: With the injuries I mean offensively, I'll be interested to
- 13:30Speaker 11: see who they keep. And yeah, because that was a huge, huge, I.
- 13:33Speaker 10: Think you A silver lining of all this going on
- 13:37Speaker 10: last couple of days, because frankly it hasn't been the
- 13:40Speaker 10: greatest of set up so far, is that, you know,
- 13:44Speaker 10: Lubica and Williams are outside guys, right, so he is
- 13:47Speaker 10: showing interest girod Is and interviewing guys that are outside
- 13:52Speaker 10: the tree. Like it's not just we're going to bring
- 13:54Speaker 10: the band totally back together. They have a special teams
- 13:57Speaker 10: coordinator who really has very you know, he has some
- 14:00Speaker 10: loose connections to Gerard and the Patriots.
- 14:02Speaker 4: He does, but even because the other guy has some
- 14:04Speaker 4: connections too, Yeah, which they're not really you know, but
- 14:07Speaker 4: they're not outside.
- 14:08Speaker 10: They're not out. But no one's ever gonna right in
- 14:11Speaker 10: the NFL the outside, Yeah, like they're not. The point
- 14:15Speaker 10: is is that these guys have been different places. They've
- 14:18Speaker 10: worked for different types of defenses, different types of coaches.
- 14:21Speaker 10: In Lubuca's case, I think he got close to Gerard
- 14:24Speaker 10: from being down down the street at BC. You know,
- 14:26Speaker 10: I think that they they connected that way when he
- 14:29Speaker 10: was at Boston College. So I there are connections. But
- 14:33Speaker 10: it's it's not it's not like they're just bringing Josh
- 14:36Speaker 10: McDaniels back and bringing Matt Patricia back and like, you know,
- 14:38Speaker 10: bringing back all these very familiar phases.
- 14:41Speaker 4: But it sounds like, I mean, not Patricia, but it
- 14:43Speaker 4: sounds like they're certainly open to Billy O'Brien or Josh
- 14:49Speaker 4: McDaniels coming back. Now. I don't think either one of
- 14:51Speaker 4: those guys will be back, but I don't think that's
- 14:54Speaker 4: because the Patriots don't want I.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Don't think O'Brian will be back really.
- 14:57Speaker 10: But the question is is what goes on that with
- 15:00Speaker 10: the with the assistance, Right, Like, if you know wide
- 15:03Speaker 10: receivers coach is different, O line coach is different, and
- 15:06Speaker 10: so on and so forth, then at least there they are.
- 15:09Speaker 10: I think the coaching staff, you.
- 15:10Speaker 4: Might get one of those.
- 15:11Speaker 10: It's gonna be some change.
- 15:12Speaker 4: You'll have a new offensive line coach. I'm not sure
- 15:13Speaker 4: you'll have a new wide receivers coach.
- 15:16Speaker 10: You're really not selling it, Paul.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I just don't I think Fred. I think Fred is right.
- 15:21Speaker 4: I think that they've they've determined that the furnace was
- 15:24Speaker 4: the problem, not the foundation, and I just look at
- 15:29Speaker 4: it and say, well, how could it be so widespread
- 15:33Speaker 4: your decline for four plus years, and it's just the
- 15:36Speaker 4: head coach was not listening to anybody. That's why I know.
- 15:40Speaker 7: And then, like Paul this weekend, I went back so
- 15:42Speaker 7: many times just thinking of how easy things were a
- 15:46Speaker 7: couple weeks ago, when you can just blame everything on Bill.
- 15:47Speaker 7: And you know, we always talk about the draft, pick
- 15:49Speaker 7: missus and everything, and that's what I think we always
- 15:52Speaker 7: kind of respectfully default to that it's Bill. I'm not
- 15:55Speaker 7: going to point it, oh, Nick Casseio pick these guys
- 15:57Speaker 7: in Matt.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Grow but and I do think Bill had say but as.
- 16:01Speaker 7: We've discussed, there's there's a line there. You know, certainly
- 16:03Speaker 7: those guys have a part in it. And now it's
- 16:05Speaker 7: they're going to give these guys, I guess, an opportunity.
- 16:07Speaker 6: But there's nowhere to hide behind Bill.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Nowhere to hide And and if let's just say twenty
- 16:12Speaker 1: twenty four is not a good season, it's going to
- 16:15Speaker 1: be on Gira to make change. Yeah, you know, he's
- 16:18Speaker 1: gonna whether you call it scapegoating or not, if if
- 16:21Speaker 1: the offense stinks, he's going to have to make changes
- 16:24Speaker 1: to the offense, and you know.
- 16:25Speaker 7: That's the thing, like they got to they got to
- 16:27Speaker 7: like you know, I just like you can get rid
- 16:30Speaker 7: of Bill and say Bill was the problem, but the
- 16:32Speaker 7: offense is a problem, and the offense needs to be fixed.
- 16:35Speaker 7: And you know, whether whoever's pulling the trigger on these decisions,
- 16:38Speaker 7: it has to happen.
- 16:39Speaker 6: But I just I found that so much of what
- 16:41Speaker 6: came out over the last.
- 16:42Speaker 7: Few days was just so all over the place where
- 16:45Speaker 7: and Paul talks about it all the time, where we
- 16:48Speaker 7: give them, we bave them the blame for the picks
- 16:50Speaker 7: that we don't like, and we don't give them any
- 16:51Speaker 7: credit for the ones we do. And you know, there
- 16:53Speaker 7: was a lot of that, like retroactive. Well, you know,
- 16:56Speaker 7: he felt like they should take a quarterback there, but
- 16:58Speaker 7: he didn't really want Mac but then he felt like
- 17:00Speaker 7: he owed it to them, and you know, but then
- 17:01Speaker 7: we never get into like, well, who picked Cole Strange?
- 17:04Speaker 7: Like is that a Bill thing too? Who's getting blamed
- 17:06Speaker 7: for that one? Who's getting blamed for Taykwon Thornton? Is
- 17:08Speaker 7: that already?
- 17:10Speaker 4: It used to be the opposite.
- 17:11Speaker 7: Doesn't seem like a Bill guy to me, doesn't seem like.
- 17:13Speaker 4: Fred will tell you when we went through the first
- 17:15Speaker 4: part of the Dynasty, you know, with the three out
- 17:17Speaker 4: of four, it was the opposite. It was like, you know,
- 17:21Speaker 4: you see Bill, he comes up with Dan Copan and
- 17:23Speaker 4: Santi Samuel and Eugene Wilson and all these you know
- 17:26Speaker 4: sort of you know, mid round picks that turn out
- 17:29Speaker 4: to be really really good players. And then it was like,
- 17:32Speaker 4: you know, like Scott Pio, we wanted you know, so
- 17:35Speaker 4: and so or Nick Casseio. You know, he sold him
- 17:38Speaker 4: a bit bag of goods on Tavon Wilson or something,
- 17:42Speaker 4: and now it's completely opposite.
- 17:43Speaker 10: Look like is doing a pretty good job in Houston,
- 17:46Speaker 10: Like do you.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Think do you think that like Bill Belich? I mean,
- 17:49Speaker 4: I don't know. I know that Bill has final say
- 17:51Speaker 4: and I've always said that, But does does Taekwon Thornton
- 17:54Speaker 4: really strike you as like this is a guy that
- 17:56Speaker 4: Bill Belichick felt like he had to have. Now Nikhil
- 17:59Speaker 4: Harry does Nikhil Harry to me, does sort of fit
- 18:03Speaker 4: the profile of what Bill. If I'm going to take
- 18:05Speaker 4: a wide receiver, it's going to be a guy who
- 18:07Speaker 4: plays on four downs blocks, you know, his physical does all,
- 18:12Speaker 4: you know, not just a diva, you know, yea forbid.
- 18:16Speaker 4: But Taekwon Thornton does not to me strike the profile.
- 18:19Speaker 7: Bill does seem like a Bill one right, Like you
- 18:22Speaker 7: kind of go back and forth between picks of you
- 18:24Speaker 7: know what.
- 18:24Speaker 4: This kind of undersized guy. I don't know we're trying
- 18:27Speaker 4: to I don't know if he strikes me as a
- 18:29Speaker 4: Bill line.
- 18:29Speaker 7: I think it's just generally taken an offensive line in
- 18:31Speaker 7: their fields.
- 18:32Speaker 11: Oh yeah, that's I feel like back to the coaching
- 18:36Speaker 11: staff situation. I feel like I don't care how good
- 18:39Speaker 11: befriend you are with Tory Brown, like they have not
- 18:41Speaker 11: been able to develop a wide receiver. Obviously, Jacoby Meyers
- 18:44Speaker 11: like outlier. I don't want to include him in this
- 18:47Speaker 11: because you know he's made away for himself. But I
- 18:50Speaker 11: feel like overall, like Taekwon Thornton should have been way
- 18:53Speaker 11: better right now, even with the injuries. Even Nikhil Harry, like,
- 18:56Speaker 11: you know, he could have been a bust even with
- 18:57Speaker 11: good coaching or not. But it's just like I feel
- 18:59Speaker 11: like they need a wide receiver coach that can actually
- 19:02Speaker 11: develop these guys.
- 19:03Speaker 7: I just think you need to let the offensive coordinator
- 19:05Speaker 7: pick his staff, come with the staff that he's familiar
- 19:08Speaker 7: with and that he wants to work at.
- 19:10Speaker 1: The thing about Troy is that his football IQ was
- 19:13Speaker 1: so high, but it came naturally to him, you know,
- 19:18Speaker 1: and what comes naturally to him doesn't necessarily come naturally
- 19:21Speaker 1: to these other kids, and it might be for him
- 19:25Speaker 1: hard to teach what he just knows as secondhand, you know.
- 19:30Speaker 1: And like Ted, I always bring up the example Ted
- 19:33Speaker 1: Williams tried to be a hitting coach for the Red
- 19:35Speaker 1: Sox and failed miserably because he just couldn't figure you
- 19:37Speaker 1: couldn't understand why these kids would didn't get it. It's
- 19:40Speaker 1: because you're a natural talent, you know, like you're you know,
- 19:44Speaker 1: and I think Troy Brown's the same way.
- 19:45Speaker 11: Yeah, And just all the issues with the route running
- 19:47Speaker 11: this year, I'm just is it all because they were
- 19:49Speaker 11: having trouble understanding the offense?
- 19:51Speaker 7: Or was it because but pop out a good year, right,
- 19:54Speaker 7: I mean, I mean, I agree with what you're saying,
- 19:56Speaker 7: but like, you know, well, but.
- 20:00Speaker 1: A good year.
- 20:00Speaker 4: But I mean the problems with that, Yeah, I.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Think he lost He didn't have as much time on
- 20:05Speaker 1: the field early because he wasn't running routes the right way.
- 20:07Speaker 4: And yeah, yeah, no, but the fumble cost him playing time.
- 20:12Speaker 4: But I do think that he struggled with his route
- 20:14Speaker 4: running at times and that was part of it. But
- 20:17Speaker 4: I look at it, I'm kind of torn with Troy,
- 20:19Speaker 4: and maybe it's because I like him so much and
- 20:21Speaker 4: I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. But I
- 20:23Speaker 4: don't think that the guys that they have, you know,
- 20:27Speaker 4: Nikhil Harriet, it's not like he left here and was
- 20:29Speaker 4: like lights out somewhere else. And I don't think they
- 20:32Speaker 4: have a lot of really good players at that position.
- 20:34Speaker 10: That's why I look at the receiver coach position is
- 20:37Speaker 10: also a position of somebody that could bring an eye
- 20:40Speaker 10: for the talent as well, like if you're just fair
- 20:42Speaker 10: point one of those guys like you know, for example,
- 20:46Speaker 10: in Minnesota, Keenan McCardell is somebody they interviewed for the
- 20:49Speaker 10: offensive coordinator job, which I think was really kind of
- 20:52Speaker 10: a wide receivers coach interview, to be honest with you.
- 20:54Speaker 10: But Keenan McCardell, like, there's got they turn out wide
- 20:58Speaker 10: receivers like it's going out of style in Minnesota.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Well that's that's the good. That's a good point, because
- 21:02Speaker 1: you know you need five or six deep in wide receivers.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Not every one of them can be studs in the
- 21:08Speaker 1: first or second round. You need to develop guys from
- 21:10Speaker 1: the fifth to sixth round two.
- 21:12Speaker 4: So that would be an example of a guy. By
- 21:13Speaker 4: the way back to our other topic. You know, if
- 21:16Speaker 4: they brought a guy like McCardell in, like, yeah, you'd
- 21:20Speaker 4: have some connections to him because Bill coached him, But
- 21:23Speaker 4: he's really an out that's an outsider to me. Yeah,
- 21:26Speaker 4: that's someone outside the organization. I would just love his
- 21:28Speaker 4: connection was Bill, not the Patriots.
- 21:30Speaker 10: I think that Troy Brown is a is a really
- 21:33Speaker 10: good like conceptual coach, and like he understands the playbook.
- 21:38Speaker 10: He understands the plays, the schemes, what they're trying to do.
- 21:41Speaker 10: But they need somebody that is like a wide receiver guru,
- 21:45Speaker 10: like someone that understands and it has an eye for talent,
- 21:48Speaker 10: someone that can coach release packages and top of the
- 21:52Speaker 10: route and all that different type of stuff. I think
- 21:54Speaker 10: Troy is probably pretty good on the whiteboard, but like
- 21:56Speaker 10: when you actually get him out there to really develop
- 21:59Speaker 10: these guys, I don't think many of these guys have
- 22:02Speaker 10: gotten better at like the details of route running. Like
- 22:05Speaker 10: I don't think that we watch Pob Douglas from the
- 22:07Speaker 10: beginning of the year to now and be like, oh wow,
- 22:10Speaker 10: like he's so much more sudden through his break or
- 22:12Speaker 10: he's you know, he's cut down on wasted staff. I
- 22:14Speaker 10: think Pop Douglas was just is just good. Like I
- 22:17Speaker 10: think that he's just good at those types of things,
- 22:19Speaker 10: and I don't think it's necessarily developed. And say with Jacoby,
- 22:22Speaker 10: I think Jacoby's just a naturally good route runner. I
- 22:25Speaker 10: don't think that they made him that much better from
- 22:27Speaker 10: start to finish. I think he was always just a
- 22:29Speaker 10: pretty good, heady route runner. And I just look at
- 22:32Speaker 10: those things as reasons. You know, with Troy that, I'm
- 22:35Speaker 10: just like, I'm sure that Troy Brown's a super smart
- 22:38Speaker 10: football guy like he was as a player, but he
- 22:41Speaker 10: is he someone that can really coach the position and
- 22:43Speaker 10: has an eye for talent.
- 22:45Speaker 7: You don't know, you know, I just think you're getting
- 22:46Speaker 7: a new offense, you need somebody who speaks the language
- 22:48Speaker 7: of the offensive coordinator and these like, you know, days
- 22:51Speaker 7: of just trying to continue to hold over coaches from
- 22:53Speaker 7: system to system to system that you know, it's all
- 22:55Speaker 7: getting lost in the wash. It seems like but I
- 22:58Speaker 7: would be fine with with a clean offensive break just
- 23:01Speaker 7: generally and get on a new track.
- 23:03Speaker 1: You know, going back to like the staff and you know,
- 23:06Speaker 1: was it all just Bill or you know, was it
- 23:09Speaker 1: several things? And you know who was Bill listening to?
- 23:13Speaker 1: As you know, in the later years, I heard something
- 23:16Speaker 1: interesting I want to Paul shows about, you know, as
- 23:19Speaker 1: the brain drain got you know more, you know, took
- 23:23Speaker 1: more and more of an effect on the staff, and
- 23:26Speaker 1: the staff got younger, and you know, Bill actually started
- 23:29Speaker 1: listening less, believe it or not, because you know, people
- 23:34Speaker 1: just didn't have the experience that he had. And so
- 23:38Speaker 1: but I don't know if that's true or not, but
- 23:39Speaker 1: I could understand that being the case. You know, if
- 23:42Speaker 1: the guys you trust are leaving and you know, you're
- 23:45Speaker 1: left with people that you haven't worked with as long
- 23:48Speaker 1: a time and you you don't trust them, that not
- 23:51Speaker 1: I mean, you know I'm talking about their judgment. You know,
- 23:53Speaker 1: you just don't know them as well.
- 23:55Speaker 10: I just look at the especially on Offense, and I
- 23:58Speaker 10: know they lose Adrian Clem for the health thing, and
- 24:01Speaker 10: they lose Ross Douglas towards the end to go to Syracuse.
- 24:04Speaker 10: But the size of the staff, Like they just don't
- 24:07Speaker 10: have that many coaches compared to other teams, but also
- 24:11Speaker 10: compared to what they used to have. You know, you
- 24:13Speaker 10: talk about like the staffs that won Super Bowls. I
- 24:15Speaker 10: always go back to the twenty fourteen staff because I
- 24:17Speaker 10: think that might be one of the best staffs in
- 24:19Speaker 10: the modern era of football. And you got guys that
- 24:22Speaker 10: are like head coaches now that were like low level
- 24:24Speaker 10: offensive assistants on that staff. You know, Matt Patricia is
- 24:28Speaker 10: like a defensive assistant, like what is that, you know,
- 24:30Speaker 10: quality control coach, you know, Brian Dables coaching tight ends
- 24:34Speaker 10: on that staff, you know, and all these guys just
- 24:37Speaker 10: end up going on to great things, and they were,
- 24:40Speaker 10: you know, some of these guys were just low level
- 24:42Speaker 10: assistants in twenty fourteen, and now they don't even they
- 24:45Speaker 10: don't have that layer of depth on the coaching staff
- 24:47Speaker 10: at all. So I do hope that Girod you know,
- 24:49Speaker 10: has more coaches.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Did you know Maddy p had one of the greatest
- 24:52Speaker 4: calls in the history of the Super Bowl in that
- 24:54Speaker 4: game as the d C come on, got to give them,
- 24:57Speaker 4: got to give them the shops? Yeap, just ask Yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 4: that was one of the greatest quotes ever. How someone
- 25:04Speaker 4: could actually say that out loud.
- 25:06Speaker 6: Like, well, actually you can't.
- 25:08Speaker 7: Well, actually the media like when they're coming.
- 25:10Speaker 4: For you, like, actually I do, I do have one
- 25:13Speaker 4: of the greatest calls. Well the super Bowl.
- 25:15Speaker 6: You're so smart.
- 25:16Speaker 7: Let me tell you about something I did.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, So there's a lot to digest, a
- 25:21Speaker 1: lot to talk about, a lot to see in the
- 25:23Speaker 1: next few weeks once we.
- 25:24Speaker 4: Got the weekend. If anybody wants to talk about the playoffs.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Playoffs, yeah, I mean I think I got screwed. Did
- 25:30Speaker 1: I pick the Steelers?
- 25:31Speaker 4: No, you did very well.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Did I pick the Steelers? No, I thought I to
- 25:36Speaker 1: cover or something like that. You may have picked because
- 25:39Speaker 1: I picked that game and the assumption they were going
- 25:41Speaker 1: to play in snow was just going to be running.
- 25:45Speaker 1: So I think I get a little bit screwed.
- 25:47Speaker 4: You did pick Pittsburgh to come Yeah.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Yeah, So I got screwed in that game.
- 25:51Speaker 6: Yeah, it was kind of unfortunate. That just not great.
- 25:54Speaker 6: Not a lot of great games.
- 25:55Speaker 4: Crew they fumbled and said it wasn't a fumbling.
- 25:58Speaker 6: The Detroit rancrew it was the only good game.
- 26:02Speaker 10: First half games like a different sport.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but I Dallas losing and oh, by the way,
- 26:10Speaker 1: Zolac stole my line. I always have a line when
- 26:13Speaker 1: I'm watching the Cowboys and they start to lose, I
- 26:15Speaker 1: go show Jerry, Show Jerry, Show Jerry. And he took
- 26:18Speaker 1: that line and he put it on Twitter. He said,
- 26:21Speaker 1: show Jerry, Show Jerry. Because I told him I did that,
- 26:23Speaker 1: he stole it.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Oh okay, so now we get it, like you actually
- 26:27Speaker 4: told him.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I told him on the bus that I do that.
- 26:29Speaker 6: What was a bigger surprise to you?
- 26:31Speaker 4: He probably did steal it.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Dallas or Ery Dallas, Oh, Dallas Eagles.
- 26:37Speaker 4: A lot of people could Yeah.
- 26:38Speaker 6: He did like that bad.
- 26:39Speaker 4: Yeah, well not that picked Tampa. Someone else to pick
- 26:42Speaker 4: Tampa out right, But Fred had a Fred.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Fred Yeah, Fred had had a weak Yeah.
- 26:47Speaker 1: No, I Eagles are a mess.
- 26:48Speaker 4: I think the Eagles. You could see that coming. I
- 26:50Speaker 4: picked him, But it was a blind faith kind of
- 26:53Speaker 4: at some point, like you could see it coming. It's
- 26:55Speaker 4: gonna be a great thirty for thirty on their twenty
- 26:57Speaker 4: twenty three Eagles.
- 26:59Speaker 6: I just I still in.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Ten years like that. There's something there that there's something
- 27:03Speaker 4: happened there that we don't know about.
- 27:05Speaker 7: I mean, I asked Devan this morning and he pointed
- 27:07Speaker 7: to you know, the coordinators. I mean, that's as good
- 27:08Speaker 7: as I've heard. Like, what what else?
- 27:10Speaker 10: I mean, this is an all star team that everybody
- 27:12Speaker 10: was both coordinators.
- 27:13Speaker 4: No, I know that, but they were still ten and one,
- 27:16Speaker 4: and I know they weren't playing great, but they were
- 27:18Speaker 4: still ten and one. Did you see talent wins out?
- 27:20Speaker 1: Did you see the look on Jeffrey Lurry at the
- 27:22Speaker 1: end of that game in the in the suite, He
- 27:25Speaker 1: had the look of an owner about to fire as coach.
- 27:27Speaker 11: Oh?
- 27:28Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I'm surprised, Sirianni was on the plane
- 27:30Speaker 10: in the back to Kelly.
- 27:32Speaker 4: I don't know if you heard this one before. This
- 27:34Speaker 4: might be I think they all stole it from me, Fred,
- 27:36Speaker 4: But do you think that maybe Bill was, you know,
- 27:40Speaker 4: maybe thinking about Dallas at some point Sunday afternoon when
- 27:43Speaker 4: the Packers were killing him.
- 27:45Speaker 10: I didn't see that.
- 27:45Speaker 4: Well, I didn't see anybody tweet about that. I didn't
- 27:48Speaker 4: see I didn't see it.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I texted Zolac while he was on the show yesterday
- 27:52Speaker 1: and I said, you think there's any chance that Bill
- 27:54Speaker 1: put in a call to the Packers And how to
- 27:57Speaker 1: mix up coverages for Dallas, knowing that if Alice loses
- 28:00Speaker 1: that job, at least.
- 28:01Speaker 4: You bring something a little bit different to the table.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Fight.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Literally four thousand people tweeted the exact same thing, and
- 28:08Speaker 4: then yesterday when he interviews with Atlanta, the same four
- 28:13Speaker 4: thousand people had to tweet question, what would you have
- 28:17Speaker 4: you ever had any experience coming from a big deficit?
- 28:20Speaker 6: Boy? I saw I saw that joke made at least
- 28:23Speaker 6: twice by.
- 28:24Speaker 4: Oh my god, I tell you, guys, got to fix
- 28:27Speaker 4: my Twitter.
- 28:27Speaker 11: You guys got to fix my It was very copy paste. Yeah,
- 28:31Speaker 11: very copy paste.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:33Speaker 6: Where do you think Bill wants to go?
- 28:34Speaker 5: Like?
- 28:34Speaker 6: I mean, does he?
- 28:35Speaker 7: What do you think he would want to go to Dallas?
- 28:36Speaker 7: I mean, I'm just you know, spitballing. But would that
- 28:39Speaker 7: be super appealing to him?
- 28:40Speaker 11: You would make more money in Dallas?
- 28:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I think way more much?
- 28:43Speaker 6: Well does he more money though?
- 28:45Speaker 4: Jerry Jones doesn't pay?
- 28:47Speaker 1: Because if you're the coach that can finally bring Dallas
- 28:53Speaker 1: back to winning a Super Bowl, that means more than that.
- 28:55Speaker 6: That's the angle I'm looking for.
- 28:57Speaker 4: Just what I think he might look at Atlanta, because
- 29:01Speaker 4: I think he looks at Dallas is not a challenge
- 29:03Speaker 4: because it's already a good team. I look at Atlanta
- 29:06Speaker 4: like they've never won anything there, you know, and I
- 29:09Speaker 4: think they're very good. I think it's very similar to Tampa.
- 29:12Speaker 4: I think there's some pieces in place.
- 29:13Speaker 10: But he's not the quarterback. Yeah, that's true, you know,
- 29:16Speaker 10: Like I think that it's easy to look at Atlanta
- 29:18Speaker 10: and say they're just a quarterback away. Well, he was
- 29:21Speaker 10: just a quarterback away here. They No, he was not
- 29:28Speaker 10: a quarterback twenty one. They had a good roster, like,
- 29:30Speaker 10: they would have been a much better team. I think
- 29:32Speaker 10: if they had somebody that was not just a passenger
- 29:35Speaker 10: in that quarterback spot.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Well, if they had an elite quarterback, they couldn't like.
- 29:38Speaker 10: Like Tampa, Tampa loses Tom Brady last year and they
- 29:41Speaker 10: come back this year in the divisional rounds. They're better
- 29:44Speaker 10: than they were with Brady last year. They had an
- 29:46Speaker 10: actual plan that they went out and executed and got
- 29:49Speaker 10: a quarterback.
- 29:50Speaker 1: He's played well. Let Baker bake.
- 29:52Speaker 10: Yes, Oh god.
- 29:55Speaker 4: I was happy for him. Yes, your guy, I was happy.
- 29:58Speaker 4: I was happy for you a guy last night.
- 30:00Speaker 1: He's back there.
- 30:01Speaker 4: He's like running around, he's got that bad ankle. He's
- 30:03Speaker 4: running around doing that.
- 30:05Speaker 1: He's got like first, he's got like a sofa.
- 30:08Speaker 11: Cushion on his Do you believe that the notion that
- 30:11Speaker 11: they're saying that, you know, Baker Mayfield is everything we
- 30:14Speaker 11: wanted Johnny Manzel to be.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Yeah, kind of.
- 30:17Speaker 4: Oh, I mean, Johnny Manziel is an elite athlete. Baker
- 30:20Speaker 4: Mayfield is a slug. Manziel would have been running. I'm serious,
- 30:23Speaker 4: He's not an athlete at all.
- 30:25Speaker 11: I saw that tweet like Baker Mayfield is everything we
- 30:28Speaker 11: wanted Johnny Manzel to be.
- 30:29Speaker 4: I was like, oh, wow, No, I don't think they're
- 30:32Speaker 4: even comparable as player. Now listen, Obviously, Johnny Manzel was
- 30:36Speaker 4: a mess off the field, and I don't think Baker
- 30:38Speaker 4: Mayfield's ever had anything bad in his off field. No, seriously,
- 30:43Speaker 4: but like, I mean, I don't think I've never heard
- 30:45Speaker 4: anything bad about Baker Mayfield. Johnny Manziel was a train
- 30:48Speaker 4: wreck off the field, but in terms of playing like styles,
- 30:53Speaker 4: they're not even close.
- 30:55Speaker 10: I also just like whatever Johnny Manzel like, people have
- 30:59Speaker 10: overreached Johnny Manzel.
- 31:00Speaker 4: But Johnny Manziel, I mean, now you know why he
- 31:03Speaker 4: was overrated because people saw the talent, but now you
- 31:06Speaker 4: know that he was.
- 31:06Speaker 10: I never saw I never thought he was all that talented. Okay,
- 31:09Speaker 10: I mean he ran around well in college, but like.
- 31:11Speaker 4: That, he ran around by you know, him and Mike
- 31:14Speaker 4: Evans basically beat Alabama by themselves.
- 31:17Speaker 10: No, I mean like it helps to have Mike Evans
- 31:19Speaker 10: who turns out to be a Hall of Fame wide
- 31:20Speaker 10: receiver ten straight.
- 31:22Speaker 4: What about the ten Hall of famers Alabama had on defense?
- 31:25Speaker 10: I just think that if you watch, like I think
- 31:27Speaker 10: Mike Evans was really good. He was really good the
- 31:29Speaker 10: one that was pulling the cart there and Joe.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I don't know about that. I know, you got to
- 31:34Speaker 1: give props to Manzel.
- 31:36Speaker 10: No, I don't.
- 31:37Speaker 4: I think if you just listen, there's nobody at this
- 31:40Speaker 4: table that appreciates stubbornness more than refused to acknowledge it.
- 31:45Speaker 10: You know, you run around like this and throw fifty
- 31:47Speaker 10: to fifty ball to Mike Evans and he mosses a
- 31:49Speaker 10: guy like, great throw.
- 31:50Speaker 4: But you run run around for twenty minutes avoiding seven
- 31:53Speaker 4: sacks and then doing it. It's a little different.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Yeah, he was.
- 31:56Speaker 4: It was incredibly talented. He really incredibly talented.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, eight five five past five hundred. Is
- 32:02Speaker 1: the a stick and hotline web radio at pages dot com.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Is the email addressed any other news we need to
- 32:07Speaker 1: take care of. I mean, there's all.
- 32:08Speaker 7: Kind of just so many bullets flying, and they just
- 32:10Speaker 7: figured like you just have to wait a few days
- 32:12Speaker 7: and let everything kind of settle to see where it lands.
- 32:14Speaker 6: Because the sides are sniping at each other.
- 32:16Speaker 4: I'm just worried that it's settled. Yeah, that's my fear. Yeah,
- 32:20Speaker 4: you know, we're gonna let it all settle.
- 32:23Speaker 8: Well, I think this is the point.
- 32:24Speaker 1: But if that's, you know, like it, like we said
- 32:26Speaker 1: at the outset, if it's gonna be pretty much status
- 32:29Speaker 1: quo except for the head coach, then they're saying that
- 32:33Speaker 1: we think the head coach was the problem.
- 32:35Speaker 7: Well, I mean I'm still holding our hope for the offense.
- 32:37Speaker 7: I think that's you know, it still seems like things
- 32:39Speaker 7: are on the table. I get maybe the ship has
- 32:41Speaker 7: sailed with you know, upper management at least through the draft.
- 32:44Speaker 7: It is what it is, But I'm at least hopeful
- 32:46Speaker 7: that that, you know, there's gonna be some kind of
- 32:47Speaker 7: injection on the offense too. There has to be, you
- 32:49Speaker 7: know that that that can be coaches and players.
- 32:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it doesn't well, it doesn't have to be play,
- 32:55Speaker 4: But I think I think you're gonna get Yeah, I
- 32:58Speaker 4: think you're gonna get it because different Listen, if Bill
- 33:01Speaker 4: gets a job, I'd almost certainly expect Josh to go
- 33:04Speaker 4: with him. And I don't think Billy O'Brien wants any
- 33:07Speaker 4: part of being back on that train wreck. So I
- 33:11Speaker 4: think you're gonna get what you want. But I think
- 33:12Speaker 4: Billy Oh was as welcome back. I think they would
- 33:15Speaker 4: welcome him back. I don't think Billy Oh wants to
- 33:18Speaker 4: be back, and that says a lot, because I think
- 33:21Speaker 4: it meant a lot to him to return home to work.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I will be amazed, though, if Bill goes to Atlanta
- 33:27Speaker 1: and he brings cam Acord with him and and they're fine.
- 33:30Speaker 10: But I think I think he will't you think he'll
- 33:34Speaker 10: just take no.
- 33:34Speaker 6: I just think, well, I think he takes both.
- 33:36Speaker 4: I mean, Maddy p will be running the defense too.
- 33:41Speaker 7: He's gonna take what's familiar to like that. And that's
- 33:43Speaker 7: why I'm surprised about Stephen Bryan, you know, I mean
- 33:46Speaker 7: I think they you know, you kind of with him
- 33:48Speaker 7: to you get kind of the reports of like a
- 33:50Speaker 7: little bit of the divided locker room this year, right
- 33:52Speaker 7: between Girard and and Bill. And what side do you
- 33:56Speaker 7: think Steve was in that? I mean, he's intimately working
- 33:58Speaker 7: with Girard.
- 33:59Speaker 6: Bill's his dad, you know.
- 34:01Speaker 7: I mean this part of me just wondering if this like, oh,
- 34:03Speaker 7: they offered them to keep their jobs, if that's just so,
- 34:05Speaker 7: I think it's just a bluff, Like it's a bluff
- 34:07Speaker 7: because we know they're not going to because they're their
- 34:09Speaker 7: team Bill.
- 34:10Speaker 6: They're going to go with their dad, and.
- 34:11Speaker 7: You know, and and and I mean and to Paul's point,
- 34:14Speaker 7: I mean, in some ways I know that they're still
- 34:15Speaker 7: with Bill. But for you know, Steve was gonna be
- 34:17Speaker 7: the defensive coordinator in Atlanta. He's going to go in
- 34:19Speaker 7: and take the defense over. And I mean I think
- 34:21Speaker 7: that's a step for him.
- 34:22Speaker 1: But I think, like I'll say this to Bill Belichick
- 34:25Speaker 1: and his sons, I think it's a bad move to
- 34:28Speaker 1: like bring your son in and make him DC. It's
- 34:30Speaker 1: just not good for your son.
- 34:32Speaker 7: Yeah, Well, what's what's better than him or and Matt Patricia?
- 34:34Speaker 7: You know, like there's like I think somebody else I know,
- 34:37Speaker 7: but that's what's so hard for it.
- 34:38Speaker 1: I think, like Falcons or whatever he goes.
- 34:41Speaker 6: But everything you've seen from.
- 34:42Speaker 7: Him over the last five ten years is he's gonna
- 34:44Speaker 7: stick with guys he knows.
- 34:45Speaker 6: I mean, he's going to take a staff.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Trust and loyalty is a big part of his psyche.
- 34:50Speaker 1: I get it. But you know, if you if you
- 34:52Speaker 1: really want what's best for your sons, they need to
- 34:55Speaker 1: go out and make their own way.
- 34:57Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, and that's I mean, I said it before.
- 34:59Speaker 7: Young kids, young families, they don't want to move. But
- 35:01Speaker 7: I mean, probably the best case for them is to
- 35:03Speaker 7: go to a totally new team where they're you know,
- 35:05Speaker 7: hired on and do a different role and they can
- 35:07Speaker 7: you know, just kind of work their way up the
- 35:09Speaker 7: traditional way that way.
- 35:10Speaker 1: But but I I think if Gerard Mayo keeps Steve
- 35:15Speaker 1: Belichick and name some defensive coordinatory, he's telling the world
- 35:18Speaker 1: this kid's good. I worked with him side by side.
- 35:21Speaker 1: I know what he does, to the point where it's
- 35:24Speaker 1: my reputation. I'm the head coach. Now if our defense stinks,
- 35:28Speaker 1: it's gonna be on me. But I trust him enough
- 35:31Speaker 1: to run it. But haven't you think that's a huge statement.
- 35:33Speaker 4: Haven't you heard all these stories about how friendly they are. Yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 4: Like I think you could just as easily combat that
- 35:40Speaker 4: with well, you know, he went with his buddy. No,
- 35:42Speaker 4: he went with what he did exactly what coach.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Now now it's now, this is all on me, and
- 35:49Speaker 1: I have to make sure I do what's best for
- 35:51Speaker 1: me and if he if he has.
- 35:53Speaker 4: You could make an argument what's best for Girard is
- 35:56Speaker 4: to stick with his friend. You could make that argument.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Not if he's not a good coach.
- 36:00Speaker 4: Well, no one's saying he's not a good coach. I
- 36:02Speaker 4: don't think anybody says no.
- 36:04Speaker 1: And what I'm saying that Gerard's saying he is a
- 36:06Speaker 1: good coach if he keeps.
- 36:07Speaker 4: Him, Yeah, I think. But I don't think anybody thinks
- 36:09Speaker 4: he's a bad coach.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Some people don't know. Some people have no idea like
- 36:14Speaker 1: who was good or who was bad in that Real.
- 36:17Speaker 4: People feel like the defense has been okay, yes, and
- 36:20Speaker 4: he's been part of that. But why, I don't think people.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Because of Bill Grod or Steve Well.
- 36:25Speaker 4: I don't think people think it's just because of one
- 36:27Speaker 4: of them. I mean, but a lot of people bigger
- 36:31Speaker 4: like I don't I don't think it's as anywhere near
- 36:33Speaker 4: as big as you're making.
- 36:34Speaker 1: Oh, I think it is. If Gerard names him defensive coordinator,
- 36:37Speaker 1: that's an absolute testimonial to.
- 36:41Speaker 4: The job for their friendship.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Did No, it's got to be his ability, to his ability,
- 36:46Speaker 1: because you know if if if he's not a good coach,
- 36:50Speaker 1: he's going to be hot firing his friend.
- 36:52Speaker 4: I didn't say he's not a good coach. I don't
- 36:53Speaker 4: know how many times I can say that. I don't
- 36:55Speaker 4: think he's a bad coach. Okay, but I don't think
- 36:58Speaker 4: it's just glowing testimonial to stick with what you know.
- 37:00Speaker 4: I don't think that's but it's it's I don't think
- 37:03Speaker 4: it speaks as many volumes as you.
- 37:04Speaker 1: What I'm saying is, if what you know is really good,
- 37:07Speaker 1: you stick with it.
- 37:08Speaker 4: I know he knows what he's doing, and he's my friend.
- 37:11Speaker 4: You stick with it because I know what I know.
- 37:12Speaker 4: I don't know about the Luba Lubacu Lubica, Luba co Lubica.
- 37:19Speaker 4: I don't know him as intimately as I do Steve.
- 37:22Speaker 4: He might be a better coach, but I don't know him.
- 37:25Speaker 4: People like him, Yeah, do you understand what?
- 37:27Speaker 11: Like?
- 37:27Speaker 4: Do you know what My point is, like, if I
- 37:29Speaker 4: have my choice, I think you you've been making a
- 37:33Speaker 4: comment for the last two months about how easy it
- 37:36Speaker 4: would be to just stick with everything right. The easy
- 37:39Speaker 4: thing to do would have been just I know Steve,
- 37:43Speaker 4: just run it back. I think it's the same thing here.
- 37:45Speaker 4: I know Steve, I know I work well with him,
- 37:48Speaker 4: I know he's good. I'm just going to stick with it.
- 37:51Speaker 4: I'm not gonna This is my problem with the whole
- 37:53Speaker 4: process is I think that they cut off potential information,
- 37:59Speaker 4: They cut off chance to learn more from the outside,
- 38:02Speaker 4: even though it was already set up. It was contractually
- 38:05Speaker 4: set up with Girod and I have no problem with
- 38:07Speaker 4: Gerard being the head coach. I think by not talking
- 38:10Speaker 4: to anybody, you cost yourself an opportunity to gather information.
- 38:14Speaker 4: And I think it's the same thing here.
- 38:15Speaker 10: Like it would have been nice to sit down with
- 38:19Speaker 10: a Bobby Slowick and say, how do you like, what
- 38:22Speaker 10: are your offensive philosophies? You know what, what do you
- 38:25Speaker 10: how do you look at building offense and scheme and
- 38:28Speaker 10: all that kind of stuff, and then go and compare
- 38:30Speaker 10: it to to the guys that they've had here. Billy
- 38:33Speaker 10: O'Brien Josh McDaniels. You know those types of guys, And
- 38:36Speaker 10: I'm telling you, I think a lot of the things
- 38:37Speaker 10: would be very different fact.
- 38:39Speaker 1: But you know it's funny though, because let's say, I'm
- 38:43Speaker 1: not disagreeing with you, but who's the person here that's
- 38:45Speaker 1: sitting down and asking those questions of Bobby Slowick.
- 38:48Speaker 10: That's my biggest concern right now.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Well, I would I would like it, you know, to
- 38:53Speaker 4: be all of them.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Who's who's them?
- 38:57Speaker 4: Robert Jonathan, Matt grow Elliott Will.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Okay, so you're making really Matt Grove a GM.
- 39:02Speaker 4: In this case, but that I didn't do that. They
- 39:06Speaker 4: did because he's in charge, they said, they said they're
- 39:08Speaker 4: staying here. Yeah, well can.
- 39:11Speaker 1: I He's not in charge of hiring coaches, can I?
- 39:13Speaker 4: Can I just do this?
- 39:14Speaker 1: He's in charge of getting tough, fast people.
- 39:16Speaker 4: I'm not interested in who's hiring the coach as much
- 39:19Speaker 4: as I am finding out information as to why my
- 39:22Speaker 4: offense is in the prehistoric gas and I want to
- 39:24Speaker 4: know who. I think I think they cost themselves an
- 39:28Speaker 4: opportunity to find out maybe why I heard Boomer this morning, right,
- 39:31Speaker 4: Boomer size and not Boomer Berman. Boomer sires and talking
- 39:34Speaker 4: about there are really six offenses in football that are
- 39:37Speaker 4: worth anything. Did you hear this?
- 39:39Speaker 8: No?
- 39:39Speaker 4: But San Francisco, Houston was one, you know, Miami, and
- 39:44Speaker 4: you know, it's all of the Rams, it's all of
- 39:47Speaker 4: the McVeigh Shanahan.
- 39:49Speaker 10: It's the Washington coach, Washington coaching staff.
- 39:52Speaker 4: You know. Let's find out why we couldn't. We tried
- 39:55Speaker 4: to implement this two years ago. Let's find out why
- 39:57Speaker 4: we failed. Right, That's all I'm saying.
- 40:02Speaker 1: But you really want Robert Kraft asking those questions.
- 40:05Speaker 4: I want everybody asking the questions if they're all going
- 40:07Speaker 4: to be involved, Fred, I want everybody who's going to
- 40:10Speaker 4: be involved to be asking the questions.
- 40:11Speaker 10: This is why my my footballs are needs to happen.
- 40:14Speaker 10: Like you need to have a football guy in the
- 40:18Speaker 10: room that is beyond just the head coach and the
- 40:20Speaker 10: personnel people because they're too close to it.
- 40:22Speaker 4: And I want one very small minor thing that backs
- 40:26Speaker 4: up what Evan's talking about that I wanted. The Patriots
- 40:29Speaker 4: have never had a general manager.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Dear mister Kraft, I have someone on my staff named
- 40:33Speaker 1: Evan Lazar who is volunteering to be bizarre ry.
- 40:37Speaker 10: First of them.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Can I be honest with you. As much as I
- 40:40Speaker 4: love to make in the room, I would rather have
- 40:42Speaker 4: Evan Lazara in that role.
- 40:44Speaker 8: Nothing. Okay, I appreciate that.
- 40:47Speaker 10: That's the nicest thing.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Just compared the top the top three you want over nothing?
- 40:54Speaker 10: I mean, that's amazing.
- 40:55Speaker 4: But did you see this stuff over the weekend? The
- 40:58Speaker 4: Patriots have never had a general man? Like, that's not true?
- 41:02Speaker 4: Are we just under Belichick?
- 41:04Speaker 12: Oh?
- 41:05Speaker 4: Are we going to be children about this and say,
- 41:07Speaker 4: because we've never had someone who has Scott Pioli comma
- 41:10Speaker 4: general manager but instead it was director of player personnel
- 41:14Speaker 4: or whatever the title happened to be for each individual
- 41:17Speaker 4: guy that we've never had a guy. Bill Belichick has
- 41:20Speaker 4: been the general manager at least since O four. Is
- 41:24Speaker 4: that what Robert said the other day? After the third title? Right,
- 41:28Speaker 4: Bill Belichick has been the general manager. Let's not be
- 41:30Speaker 4: children about this because they've never had a guy with
- 41:33Speaker 4: the title general manager. He was, That's all, of course
- 41:37Speaker 4: he was. We didn't need to go on with.
- 41:38Speaker 1: That, all right, eight five to five pasts five hundred.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Let's open it up to the listeners tomorrow noon introductory
- 41:46Speaker 1: press conference with girod Mayo. We'll have it live on
- 41:48Speaker 1: Patriots dot com until now, let's hear what you have
- 41:51Speaker 1: to say until then. I mean, Sean's at Vancouver. What's up, Sean?
- 41:56Speaker 13: Hello? Everyone. If Megan is listening to she's going to
- 41:59Speaker 13: roll her eyes. But I still have my Gerard Mayo
- 42:02Speaker 13: jersey from two thousand and eight. I kept it all
- 42:04Speaker 13: these years and I don't think I'm getting rid of it.
- 42:08Speaker 13: But you know, even though I'm a huge fan, I'm
- 42:11Speaker 13: with Evan. I really think they need a GM who's
- 42:15Speaker 13: not the head coach. I think they need someone separate
- 42:18Speaker 13: to do that job. And I was kind of hoping
- 42:20Speaker 13: they'd hire a GM before they announced the head coach's
- 42:24Speaker 13: that was my desire.
- 42:25Speaker 14: But I don't know.
- 42:26Speaker 13: Now I'm worried they won't even do that.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I don't.
- 42:30Speaker 10: I'm not like it's caught up on the order ofs
- 42:32Speaker 10: and some other people. But I just this organization has
- 42:38Speaker 10: honestly been been blessed, where so many great football players,
- 42:42Speaker 10: football minds that have walked through the door that some
- 42:46Speaker 10: of these people have to be interested in coming back
- 42:49Speaker 10: to bring an experienced football mind to the equation, whether
- 42:55Speaker 10: that's a former player like Gerard or it's bringing back
- 42:59Speaker 10: a guy like poor Demittrop. And I'm not necessarily saying
- 43:02Speaker 10: to make those guys a general manager, but can we
- 43:04Speaker 10: get like a consultant in the building too, like Dante whoever,
- 43:09Speaker 10: I'm not saying, like make that an official title.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it doesn't have to be GM, but a consultant.
- 43:15Speaker 10: Right like somebody that is a football person. I don't
- 43:18Speaker 10: want business people making football decisions. That's how you get
- 43:22Speaker 10: into trouble in any sport. And if they continue down
- 43:25Speaker 10: that path, then they're gonna they're not gonna go down
- 43:28Speaker 10: a good route because it's gonna be all the you
- 43:30Speaker 10: know in the business world, familiarity and all this kind
- 43:34Speaker 10: of you know the people, you know, nepotism, all that stuff.
- 43:36Speaker 10: That's that's what jives in the business world. In football,
- 43:40Speaker 10: you got to hire the best guy that's for the job.
- 43:42Speaker 10: And I think right now that you know, there's so
- 43:44Speaker 10: many guys that at least yeah they have like you know,
- 43:47Speaker 10: the name Zach Robinson's been thrown around a lot.
- 43:50Speaker 4: I'm intrigued.
- 43:51Speaker 10: Quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator right now for the Rams.
- 43:54Speaker 10: Obviously drafted by the Patriots, but he's coached under Sean
- 43:57Speaker 10: McVay for the past like four or five years, so
- 44:01Speaker 10: he will would bring the McVeigh system here while still
- 44:05Speaker 10: having some roots and familiarity with how things are run
- 44:08Speaker 10: in New England. Like those types of people need to
- 44:11Speaker 10: have they need to be considered. And if you're just
- 44:14Speaker 10: gonna consider Josh McDaniels or Bill O'Brien, then how do
- 44:16Speaker 10: you expect anything to be fit?
- 44:18Speaker 4: And to your point, Freddie, like you said, like who's
- 44:20Speaker 4: going to be listening, Well, that's the kind of guy
- 44:22Speaker 4: I want listening to that stuff.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Oh it's fair, Patty and idam, what's up Patty?
- 44:29Speaker 15: Okay?
- 44:29Speaker 7: Hey hey can you hear me?
- 44:31Speaker 14: Okay?
- 44:32Speaker 4: Yes, unfortunately, sorry, Paul, what's up, Patty?
- 44:41Speaker 8: Yeah? He's opening his forkar you know.
- 44:42Speaker 4: I love you, bro.
- 44:44Speaker 1: Paul's food here.
- 44:46Speaker 14: I'm excited by the move. Definitely sounded choosing Mayo over Brabel.
- 44:51Speaker 14: Probably not that they chose him, it was written into
- 44:54Speaker 14: his contract, but to me, it's stills more of like
- 44:57Speaker 14: them going towards the more new age approach. And I
- 45:02Speaker 14: just want to caution other fans too, because I've already
- 45:05Speaker 14: seen a lot of negativity out there about the hire
- 45:07Speaker 14: that you know, the offense. There's a lot of glaring
- 45:11Speaker 14: holes if you look at like across the board, we
- 45:13Speaker 14: have zero tight ends roster next year.
- 45:16Speaker 1: We know the offense has trouble, but yeah, yeah, we
- 45:21Speaker 1: don't need to go down the list. We know the offense.
- 45:23Speaker 14: Yeah, might take a couple of years before it looks good.
- 45:27Speaker 14: But I just wanted to ask you, guys, if you're
- 45:32Speaker 14: making the pick at number three, what direction do you go?
- 45:36Speaker 14: Do you take the quarterback? Do you take a tackle?
- 45:39Speaker 14: Do you trade down and get more assets? Me personally,
- 45:42Speaker 14: the guy that I would like to see them take
- 45:44Speaker 14: his seat and Daniels and I'll take it off the.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Aar Okay, Yeah, well, let's say that Caleb Williams is gone,
- 45:50Speaker 1: but you will be. Let's say Drake may Is we
- 45:53Speaker 1: did cry, you know, but you probably will. Do you
- 45:56Speaker 1: take a quarterback with the third pack?
- 45:58Speaker 10: But my fear right now with Jayden Dandaniels is that
- 46:00Speaker 10: we're coping. We're coping at the fact that we can't
- 46:03Speaker 10: get the top two right.
- 46:04Speaker 4: So it's like, this is the guy that's left, he's
- 46:07Speaker 4: right right, Yes, that's where I am.
- 46:09Speaker 10: And I don't I don't want to take That's how
- 46:11Speaker 10: you end up with Zach Wilson is when you just
- 46:13Speaker 10: take the guy that's left right or Mac Jones is
- 46:16Speaker 10: probably even better example. And I think James Daniels is
- 46:19Speaker 10: super talented. There's a lot to really love about his
- 46:22Speaker 10: overall game, but as a passer, he needs refinement and
- 46:26Speaker 10: he needs work, and I would not throw him into
- 46:28Speaker 10: this mess. Like if you're going to tell me that
- 46:31Speaker 10: they have all new tackles and all new receivers and
- 46:33Speaker 10: a new coordinator and all this, then maybe it's a
- 46:35Speaker 10: different conversation. But with the information we have right now,
- 46:38Speaker 10: I don't think that that's the type of guy that
- 46:40Speaker 10: you throw into a system like this.
- 46:43Speaker 6: I like what Evan said.
- 46:44Speaker 7: I just I mean, I've found myself these last few
- 46:46Speaker 7: days looking at the draft now through the lens of
- 46:48Speaker 7: a Jerrodmeo, Mac grow Ish, you know, Elliott Wolf type,
- 46:52Speaker 7: and it's it's hard for me to sell the tackle
- 46:55Speaker 7: pick now. Like I think if Bill were still here,
- 46:59Speaker 7: I could feel like I can sell the tackle pick.
- 47:01Speaker 7: I just don't know. With a new coach with a
- 47:03Speaker 7: new regime looking to put their stamp on it, I
- 47:06Speaker 7: almost lean back towards Chitten Daniels or even Marvin Harrison.
- 47:11Speaker 7: I mean, and last week I would have said, I
- 47:12Speaker 7: I'm out on that. I don't think it's a good plan,
- 47:15Speaker 7: but I think it could. It could make sense for
- 47:18Speaker 7: this carew If.
- 47:18Speaker 1: You're an owner and you just fired your longtime coach
- 47:22Speaker 1: and you hired a guy who's never been the head
- 47:24Speaker 1: coach before you got all these problems with the offense,
- 47:28Speaker 1: do you say to him in order so that he's
- 47:31Speaker 1: not making knee jerk decisions, You've got three years, You've
- 47:35Speaker 1: got three years to get us back to be a
- 47:37Speaker 1: playoff contender. Or do you say, I want results right now,
- 47:42Speaker 1: and you know, put the pressure on him and now
- 47:44Speaker 1: he's making decisions in the short term. What do you
- 47:47Speaker 1: say to him?
- 47:47Speaker 7: I mean, I think he has to know he has
- 47:50Speaker 7: some time. But look, we all know that this this
- 47:51Speaker 7: business can change in the drop of a hat, and
- 47:53Speaker 7: teams can turn things around. But I just think it's
- 47:55Speaker 7: going to take huge cajones to not pick a quarterback.
- 47:58Speaker 7: That's what would you what would you for a new
- 48:00Speaker 7: regime for three years?
- 48:02Speaker 4: Two? You got to you got two to make progress.
- 48:05Speaker 4: You don't have to like get me super Bowl caliber
- 48:07Speaker 4: in two years, but you have to make progress in
- 48:12Speaker 4: every round and you know second and it's hard.
- 48:16Speaker 6: To say, well, hey we're going into your three this.
- 48:18Speaker 7: You know Joe Alt, He's he's been great.
- 48:21Speaker 6: Our offense is still.
- 48:22Speaker 7: Kind of mired because we don't have a quarterback, but
- 48:24Speaker 7: there's nobody screaming off the left edge unblocked anymore.
- 48:27Speaker 8: It's hard to sell it.
- 48:28Speaker 6: It's hard to sell it or Arson.
- 48:31Speaker 4: I'm with Evan on on Daniels, like I am talking
- 48:33Speaker 4: myself into it, and I wonder if I'm doing too
- 48:36Speaker 4: much talking myself into it and he's not really worth it.
- 48:38Speaker 10: But that because it isn't the fear that, because of
- 48:42Speaker 10: all the reasons why you just laid out, you reach
- 48:44Speaker 10: on the quarterback because it's the pick that makes the
- 48:46Speaker 10: most sense. And if that's what you're gonna do, then
- 48:50Speaker 10: you could get yourself into trouble. Whereas if you do
- 48:52Speaker 10: give Fred's three years. The methodical approach is what the
- 48:56Speaker 10: Lions have done. It's what really the Texans have done
- 48:59Speaker 10: when you really think about it. I mean they didn't
- 49:01Speaker 10: get the quarterback until this past off season, and Casario
- 49:03Speaker 10: has been there for a couple of years already. Like,
- 49:05Speaker 10: if you just expect to fix all of it in
- 49:08Speaker 10: one off season. I think that you're you're in trouble.
- 49:11Speaker 7: I just I threw the scenario at Evan and I
- 49:12Speaker 7: was like, look, don't judge me, and like, people don't
- 49:14Speaker 7: call in. I'm not telling you that this is what
- 49:16Speaker 7: I want to have happened, right, don't.
- 49:19Speaker 8: At me with this.
- 49:20Speaker 7: But I'm just putting this scenario out there into the
- 49:22Speaker 7: ether because I've recently kind of made the case of Chicago.
- 49:26Speaker 7: Keep Justin fields, build around him. You've got one more
- 49:29Speaker 7: year of him. If it doesn't work out, you.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Replaced so that a quarterback could drop to us.
- 49:32Speaker 8: So now we're talking, drink.
- 49:34Speaker 7: May you bring back Josh, You put Mac back in there,
- 49:38Speaker 7: you give him Marvin Harrison, you draft him a tackle
- 49:40Speaker 7: at the top of the second round, and then you
- 49:43Speaker 7: see what happens.
- 49:44Speaker 10: I pointed the door to the door.
- 49:46Speaker 8: When he's yeah, that's what I want to do.
- 49:50Speaker 11: Come at me when you started to talk. When you
- 49:52Speaker 11: started to talk, I was like, okay, you mean quarterback's
- 49:55Speaker 11: gonna fall in our lap. But similar to Mike's like theory,
- 49:58Speaker 11: my theory was, okay, maybe they'll decide like last minute, Okay,
- 50:02Speaker 11: we don't want to keep fields we're gonna trade him,
- 50:04Speaker 11: or you know, Arizona, maybe they don't want Murray and
- 50:06Speaker 11: you'll they'll trade him. So what if you got one
- 50:08Speaker 11: of those guys, but then you were able to get
- 50:11Speaker 11: I'm curious, what.
- 50:12Speaker 4: Were you gonna do at three if the if the
- 50:14Speaker 4: Bears marble barn the fields. Yeah, that's what you said,
- 50:19Speaker 4: right that. Your whole thing is predicated on the Bears.
- 50:20Speaker 4: We're gonna lead on the field.
- 50:21Speaker 7: Ye hold on the fields and do the same thing
- 50:23Speaker 7: like draft Marvin Harrison for him, get him a tackle,
- 50:26Speaker 7: you know what I mean?
- 50:26Speaker 6: Just hold around the story.
- 50:27Speaker 4: What are we doing with Mac Jones.
- 50:28Speaker 6: We're gonna build around him.
- 50:29Speaker 7: We're gonna find Marvin Harrison and the Bears.
- 50:34Speaker 4: Yeah, it's always a scenario.
- 50:37Speaker 6: I know, but you're time.
- 50:40Speaker 8: I mean, I would, I would. That was my joke.
- 50:43Speaker 7: So I watched, So I did a lot of wide
- 50:45Speaker 7: receivers I did, I know, I did. I watched a
- 50:48Speaker 7: bunch of the wide receivers and I made the.
- 50:49Speaker 8: Joke and everyone.
- 50:50Speaker 6: I don't know if you've heard this kid from LSU, but.
- 50:52Speaker 4: NA interesting that you say that though, because there's so
- 50:57Speaker 4: much talk about Harrison. You got to take Marvin Harrison
- 51:00Speaker 4: far and away the best player. He's the generational generator.
- 51:03Speaker 4: I heard Boomer size and say today you like to
- 51:05Speaker 4: say better. Yeah, I don't know about it. D I'm
- 51:09Speaker 4: not telling you. I'm not. I'm not a talent evaluate
- 51:12Speaker 4: or expert. I don't pretend to be. But all right,
- 51:15Speaker 4: so I'll pretend like when Andrew luck was coming out,
- 51:18Speaker 4: there weren't a lot of people saying that, you know,
- 51:20Speaker 4: Fred kirsh was actually better than Andrew Lucky. He was
- 51:23Speaker 4: when you're a transcendent, you know, player, right at that level,
- 51:28Speaker 4: there is really no disagreement, right, And I just was
- 51:32Speaker 4: I think they're just you know, maybe it's just one
- 51:34Speaker 4: voice in the in the wilderness, and Boomer a dude
- 51:36Speaker 4: say it's.
- 51:36Speaker 10: Saying a dude's ay. I think that's a little recency
- 51:39Speaker 10: biased from the college football playoff because those guys didn't
- 51:42Speaker 10: play obviously in their bowl games and stuff like that,
- 51:44Speaker 10: so you don't have that. I think with Harrison and Neighbors,
- 51:48Speaker 10: it's a little bit closer. And that's more just like stylistically,
- 51:52Speaker 10: what do you prefer like my conference? Marvin Harrison Junior
- 51:54Speaker 10: is Devanta Adams, Right, He's a guy that has a
- 51:57Speaker 10: frame of a six foot three, six foot four receiver,
- 52:00Speaker 10: but can break down like he's a much smaller guy,
- 52:02Speaker 10: whereas Neighbors is really Jamar Chase. Right, it's linear, explosive,
- 52:06Speaker 10: down the field type of athlete. So like it's just
- 52:08Speaker 10: whichever one you want is I would agree with that.
- 52:11Speaker 10: It's sort of like this game it out. So give
- 52:13Speaker 10: them Neighbors then, right if Chicago took them. But what
- 52:16Speaker 10: I'm saying, like back Jones can't reach Molik Neighbors field
- 52:21Speaker 10: they are also, I mean, we'll see what happens.
- 52:23Speaker 4: I mean those top five receivers, his historically have not
- 52:26Speaker 4: been great.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Well, all right, one we come back. We'll take more
- 52:29Speaker 1: calls and emails. We'll also want to talk has the
- 52:31Speaker 1: sentiment for mac changed a little bit again? I will
- 52:35Speaker 1: talk about that after this.

- 53:26Speaker 12: And we are back with the Patriots of Fielder halftime show.
- 53:29Speaker 12: This has been pushed due to someone for Sam's circumstances
- 53:33Speaker 12: and gets by my tone. What happened today? We have
- 53:37Speaker 12: Faith yeah, co host, and I'm gonna let her run
- 53:40Speaker 12: trivia today before we get into uh our little show.
- 53:43Speaker 12: So Faith, Yes, let's go for running out.
- 53:45Speaker 17: Of questions here, We're runn out of questions we're coming
- 53:48Speaker 17: up with stuff. Matisse has given me the honor of
- 53:51Speaker 17: having the trivia today. So Matissea, as you always tell me,
- 53:54Speaker 17: don't answer the questions, I gotcha. First question, what was
- 53:58Speaker 17: the final play in the old Fox for A Stadium?
- 54:02Speaker 17: Second question, who was the first opponent to play in
- 54:06Speaker 17: the Patriots new stadium, Chalett Stadium? Who did the Patriots
- 54:10Speaker 17: play first in Jalette Stadium? And last who did Doug
- 54:15Speaker 17: Flutie do his famous last drop kick against? So a
- 54:19Speaker 17: lot of opponents.
- 54:20Speaker 12: Yeah, all right, and send your answers in the web
- 54:22Speaker 12: radio at Patriots dot com. You'll win something. I don't
- 54:25Speaker 12: know what we have anymore.
- 54:25Speaker 10: You're gonna win something really good.
- 54:27Speaker 12: We have a lot of good use. But Faith, as
- 54:29Speaker 12: I said earlier, this has been pushed a week or two,
- 54:33Speaker 12: and so I have a little rant about college football
- 54:36Speaker 12: and for the listeners, I am a very casual college
- 54:39Speaker 12: football fan. I get more into it when it comes
- 54:41Speaker 12: to draft season and you know, more highlights. I watched
- 54:45Speaker 12: the big games and so we just had Michigan beat
- 54:49Speaker 12: University Washington. And Faith is from South Carolina. I am
- 54:53Speaker 12: go Game Cocks, and so she's more of a college
- 54:56Speaker 12: football guru than I am. And so I'm gonna go
- 54:59Speaker 12: through this. I have about seven five takes and I'm
- 55:04Speaker 12: gonna let Faith react to them.
- 55:05Speaker 1: All right.
- 55:06Speaker 12: This is for the playoff slash Championship, Okay, all right?
- 55:10Speaker 12: And so my first yes and my first rant has
- 55:13Speaker 12: been addressed because the issue that four teams, what were
- 55:15Speaker 12: we doing now? Just bad to begin. Yes, FSU got screwed,
- 55:19Speaker 12: Georgia got screwed, kind of like it's it's it's fixed,
- 55:22Speaker 12: that's fixed. That was rant number on.
- 55:24Speaker 17: Their game was ridiculous, all.
- 55:25Speaker 12: Right, issue won for real. Issue one, the game is
- 55:29Speaker 12: too damn late. All right. I'm thirty years old. Yeah,
- 55:34Speaker 12: on the week days, I like to be in bed
- 55:37Speaker 12: before midnight. They pushed it up this year. I think
- 55:40Speaker 12: it started at seven. The ball didn't get kicked off
- 55:42Speaker 12: the damn t until late fifteen.
- 55:44Speaker 17: Yeah, it's it's kind of become not to the level
- 55:47Speaker 17: of Army Navy, but there's so much pre game, so
- 55:50Speaker 17: much hype around it, so much extra stuff, that you're right,
- 55:53Speaker 17: it is kind of pushed.
- 55:55Speaker 11: I also had them.
- 55:56Speaker 17: I'm twenty three, and I had the complaint that it
- 55:57Speaker 17: was too late, like I only stayed up till halftime.
- 56:00Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 56:01Speaker 12: It's crazy, and so that ties into something else. But
- 56:03Speaker 12: that's number one.
- 56:04Speaker 11: That's very bad.
- 56:05Speaker 12: Okay, number two, the trophy sucks.
- 56:09Speaker 1: I like the the crystal ball.
- 56:11Speaker 17: Was great, but you can imagine probably how many times
- 56:15Speaker 17: like that's so breakable.
- 56:17Speaker 10: That's the problem.
- 56:17Speaker 12: It doesn't matter, it's you can get to do it.
- 56:19Speaker 12: The trophy stinks. It used to say doctor Pepper on it. Okay,
- 56:22Speaker 12: that's a that's a full like, so every other team,
- 56:24Speaker 12: every other NCAA winner gets that like weird.
- 56:28Speaker 17: See I would rather the college football playoff like the
- 56:31Speaker 17: football trophy than what the NCAA gives like every other team.
- 56:35Speaker 12: Okay, just it needs to be fixed. You know, maybe
- 56:38Speaker 12: when they expand it they get rid of this thing.
- 56:40Speaker 10: True.
- 56:40Speaker 17: But because I can say from being from South Carolina,
- 56:42Speaker 17: I saw plenty of women's basketball national championship trophies and
- 56:45Speaker 17: SEC tournament trophies. You know, had to had to flex that.
- 56:48Speaker 17: But they're not I would argue they're not as good
- 56:51Speaker 17: and or cool as you don't like the.
- 56:53Speaker 12: Gold like it's better now that doesn't say doctor Pepper
- 56:56Speaker 12: on it.
- 56:56Speaker 11: That's fair, but all the doctor Pepper fans probably liked it.
- 56:58Speaker 12: Okaynumber three, we got making an event like the super Bowl,
- 57:02Speaker 12: like like we need more funny commercials, all right, just
- 57:07Speaker 12: like you're putting me through this game, and if you're like,
- 57:10Speaker 12: just give me something as a casual fan, you know, oh,
- 57:13Speaker 12: like you know, funny commercial.
- 57:14Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 57:14Speaker 17: Some people who don't like football would still want to
- 57:16Speaker 17: time in because there's something else.
- 57:18Speaker 12: It's just like a very blend fraud like yeah, like
- 57:22Speaker 12: and some of the games are good. Maybe it's just
- 57:24Speaker 12: tough because the game we just watched like it had
- 57:26Speaker 12: it had moments, but it wasn't that good.
- 57:28Speaker 17: I think that's the problem is like the real weekend,
- 57:31Speaker 17: the real moment is those like semi final games. Those
- 57:34Speaker 17: are the tight games, those are the exciting things. And
- 57:36Speaker 17: then it's almost like you make it to the national
- 57:38Speaker 17: championship and it's either too late. It's also less late
- 57:41Speaker 17: in the season because they play it so late. It's
- 57:43Speaker 17: like college football ends it like Thanksgiving.
- 57:46Speaker 10: So then you've got this like really long break.
- 57:48Speaker 17: Of like bowl games. But you're just like by the
- 57:51Speaker 17: time you roll into January. It's not that people don't care,
- 57:54Speaker 17: because people certainly care, but it's just there's such a
- 57:57Speaker 17: big time period between the last regular season.
- 57:59Speaker 12: War depending where you are Michigan. And all right, so
- 58:04Speaker 12: part three point five. If there's too many commercials, all right,
- 58:07Speaker 12: like like I wanted to, there's too many, Yes, and
- 58:10Speaker 12: like that. I think that's that's not just a playoff issue.
- 58:12Speaker 12: That's been that's the whole season. They got to fix that.
- 58:16Speaker 10: Yeah, there's a lot of TV breaks for sure.
- 58:18Speaker 12: Question four, number four, Rant four, This is a big one.
- 58:22Speaker 12: Why is it on a Monday?
- 58:24Speaker 1: Why like like like be on a Friday.
- 58:26Speaker 12: Maybe with the new expansion it gets pushed back. Yeah,
- 58:29Speaker 12: and maybe like you know, it's the week between the
- 58:31Speaker 12: super Bowl. I would love that, you know, having sudden Saturday.
- 58:34Speaker 12: But like like I either want to watch it on
- 58:36Speaker 12: a Friday or Saturday. You can't do Sunday. And now
- 58:39Speaker 12: you can't really do Surday because the NFL. I don't know,
- 58:41Speaker 12: it's just Monday. What are we doing?
- 58:43Speaker 6: I feel like you.
- 58:44Speaker 17: Could really lean into Saturday because that's college football on Saturday. Yes,
- 58:49Speaker 17: And it's also tough, like you think about like, okay,
- 58:52Speaker 17: like kids having to stay up late on the school night,
- 58:54Speaker 17: adults like us, yes, like us having to stay.
- 58:57Speaker 11: Up on a work night.
- 58:58Speaker 12: If you want to go to a bar.
- 58:59Speaker 1: Who was a bar?
- 59:00Speaker 17: The kids aren't going to the bar, but you know
- 59:02Speaker 17: we might want to have to one. Yeah, so you
- 59:04Speaker 17: agree with that, you're making valid points. I'm not saying
- 59:07Speaker 17: the system is perfect.
- 59:08Speaker 12: And number number five, and so I wrote this list
- 59:11Speaker 12: out at during the game because I was frustrated. Number five,
- 59:15Speaker 12: This just goes to off college football. You gotta get
- 59:18Speaker 12: rid of the targeting rule, because I said, I said
- 59:20Speaker 12: when I sent this to my friend, get rid of
- 59:21Speaker 12: the targeting rule because it's the worst rule. And I'm
- 59:23Speaker 12: sure it's going to happen this game, and it almost did.
- 59:25Speaker 12: It almost happened at the end, and you're throwing a
- 59:28Speaker 12: player out and it's just it's just bad. Yeah, that's
- 59:31Speaker 12: once again, just for all of college football.
- 59:33Speaker 11: I can agree. I feel like there's certain rules.
- 59:36Speaker 17: I've always had an interesting thought on the whole, like
- 59:39Speaker 17: one toe versus two toes, Like, if you're training college
- 59:42Speaker 17: football players don't only get one toe in, how does
- 59:44Speaker 17: that fully translate when you have to get two in
- 59:46Speaker 17: the NFL?
- 59:47Speaker 10: Like I feel like there should.
- 59:49Speaker 17: Be more connection so that you're training players to know
- 59:52Speaker 17: exactly what's going to happen in the pros even if
- 59:54Speaker 17: you don't make it to the pros. God, So, I look,
- 59:57Speaker 17: I think you're making valid points. I want some Carolina
- 1:00:00Speaker 17: to win the national championship next year.
- 1:00:02Speaker 12: It's just like, what if what if Michigan's like star
- 1:00:05Speaker 12: defensive back gets a targeting play in quarter one?
- 1:00:08Speaker 10: Yeah?
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Done, and then it's done.
- 1:00:10Speaker 12: Just I don't know it needs to be done, but
- 1:00:12Speaker 12: that is that's my rant. I've been saying on that.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: It clearly the game half a while ago. Faith.
- 1:00:17Speaker 12: Thank you for getting the trivia, of course, and all right,
- 1:00:20Speaker 12: let's get back to Patriots and filter.
- 1:00:24Speaker 18: When someone accidentally threw the school play costumes, oh no,
- 1:00:29Speaker 18: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery.
- 1:00:33Speaker 18: Everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:00:37Speaker 18: now it's next for residential delivery.
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: Only and now great moments in.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: History. You know he was the fish with my grandfather, Yeah? Really?
- 1:00:49Speaker 12: Wow?
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Please tell I know that he had a twenty eight
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: to three shirt sholder. I don't know that his grandfather.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: They all used Shakespeare Rods Ted Williams.
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: So my grandfather was longtime track coach at Tufts.
- 1:01:05Speaker 7: From the early thirties all the way until he died
- 1:01:07Speaker 7: in the early seventies and he developed a friendship with
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: Ted Williams. There's there's some interesting newspaper articles that I've
- 1:01:14Speaker 7: dug up that it's my grandfather. I never met him
- 1:01:16Speaker 7: die before I was born. Clarence ding Duso. The track
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: of tous is named after him. But they used to
- 1:01:20Speaker 7: go him and Ted would go up to up to
- 1:01:23Speaker 7: New Brunswick where my grandfather did all the summers, and
- 1:01:26Speaker 7: they would fish together, fly fishing. And this is the
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: crazy story. John Henry Duso Williams. They named his middle
- 1:01:35Speaker 7: name is Dusau after my grandfather. You go to newspapers
- 1:01:38Speaker 7: dot com. You can do a lot of searching. I
- 1:01:40Speaker 7: found one that's like, you know, du So teaches the
- 1:01:42Speaker 7: Red Sox how to run. So my grandfather went down
- 1:01:44Speaker 7: to Florida and was talking to them about like speed
- 1:01:47Speaker 7: and stuff. So yeah, so it's he's he's got a
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: he's got a whole story.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: I've got his whole all this st I got a feeling.
- 1:01:52Speaker 7: There's a lot of stories that deuces and I'm getting
- 1:01:55Speaker 7: through them slowly but surely.
- 1:01:56Speaker 8: But that's one of the better ones.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: That's great.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Yeah, all those stories, you're kind of a disappointment.
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: That's another great moment from.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Now I know the reason you played that is just
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: have an excuse to play the song.
- 1:02:12Speaker 8: So let's hear.
- 1:02:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: People have been saying this has been get stuck in
- 1:02:15Speaker 6: their head face.
- 1:02:18Speaker 12: Okay, here we go.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: This one's for Mike to, so yeah, there we go.
- 1:02:25Speaker 11: This one's for Mike or So.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: He made his name and bloggy and he's a youth
- 1:02:30Speaker 3: hockey referee.
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: Don't you ever again those.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: Twenty eight to three ties. He's lessing the picks and
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: he's sneaking negative but he knows his.
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: Hood is and he knows them good.
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: Did you know that he used to live in Hollywood. Okay,
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: this one's for Mike to, so yeah, there we go.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: This one's for Mike to so, okay, go he's snaking egg. Okay,
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: this one's might do.
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: So all right, thank you?
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: Just stuff just so good.
- 1:03:08Speaker 8: It's stuff the Okay, that's the.
- 1:03:11Speaker 6: Second one that it's just so good.
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: And as they ready ported it out since the song,
- 1:03:15Speaker 7: you know, the Cowboys haven't haven't won a game yet, so.
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: And then they curse the Cowboys. They had the ball
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: for about nine thousand snaps of that game. Trying to
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: come back in the second half too, So okay.
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: All the time, and it's so annoying, right, I mean
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: they must annoy everybody.
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: Does that annoy everybody? It's all I can hear the
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: whole game.
- 1:03:31Speaker 4: It's just it just makes me chuckle now every single time.
- 1:03:35Speaker 10: But you're you curse the Cowboys.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: You're like JJ Reddick and we invented that. You and
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: I were the first ones on that. We were like
- 1:03:43Speaker 4: listening to the.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: TV like, is he saying okay, yeah, so that is
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: Jill's uh that's the last name again, Jill new Hampshire.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Just Jill from New Hampshire. Yeah, great, great, great song
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: all right before or the break I kind of teased
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: a little bit about the sentiment for mac Jones because
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: it's been kind of a roller coaster. Obviously, when he
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: was drafted, it was like, okay, great, we've got this
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: guy from Alabama. Uh, you know, best rookie season, you know,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: a long time for any quarterback and all this stuff,
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: and then obviously last year went down, went down even
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: further this year. But is is he starting to get
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: a little bit more support now that these stories are
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: coming out and how it was a situation where hardly
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: anyone could have succeeded in. Is he getting a little
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: sympathy these days as compared to like a month ago,
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I mean, not for me.
- 1:04:40Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:04:41Speaker 6: I mean, I I sense it.
- 1:04:43Speaker 4: I mean I haven't heard much I have. I mean,
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: I mean, the Macalytes they're still there. They were there
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: during the season. This isn't his fault. Macau have no
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: offensive line.
- 1:04:54Speaker 6: We've got to run it back with Mac, run it
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: back with Mac.
- 1:04:57Speaker 8: That's why.
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: I just, I mean, we're talking about it upstairs a
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: little bit, and it's, you know, it's as hard as
- 1:05:03Speaker 7: things were for Mac Jones.
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: I just I think you would have seen something if
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: there was something there.
- 1:05:07Speaker 7: And that's why there's still people out there that say, oh,
- 1:05:09Speaker 7: you know, and I always go back to what Bill said,
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: he can play in this league, like you know. I mean,
- 1:05:13Speaker 7: it's it's I think there's still people that think he
- 1:05:15Speaker 7: can play in this league. And that's why I brought
- 1:05:17Speaker 7: up that scenario, which was one hundred percent not a
- 1:05:19Speaker 7: real scenario that I'm advocating for everybody who's writing in
- 1:05:21Speaker 7: right now to yell at me, but like trot Nixon
- 1:05:26Speaker 7: over the back right now, I took it back over
- 1:05:28Speaker 7: the break, but I just I think he deserves probably
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: a clean break. But I don't really believe that he's
- 1:05:34Speaker 7: going to go elsewhere and suddenly flourish.
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: I think he kind of is what he is.
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: So let's just say that they do get you know,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: a quarterback in the first round. Does he deserve at
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: least to get to training camp and fight for a
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: starting job for this year?
- 1:05:49Speaker 11: No?
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: No, no, well not.
- 1:05:51Speaker 10: Because he doesn't like deserve it. I don't know about that,
- 1:05:54Speaker 10: but I just don't think that him wore Bailey Zappi's
- 1:05:56Speaker 10: the right guy for that role. Yeah, Like, if you're
- 1:05:59Speaker 10: going to draft a quarterback three overall, that's your quarterback, right, Like,
- 1:06:02Speaker 10: it's not like Mac Jones going to beat him out
- 1:06:04Speaker 10: in trail.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: But we we've also talked about wouldn't it be nice
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: to just have a veteran so that he doesn't have
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: to be thrown.
- 1:06:09Speaker 10: Into the ve right, Like if you want to bring
- 1:06:13Speaker 10: in Gardner Minshew or that's a veteran now.
- 1:06:15Speaker 11: No, but I would not want a broken veteran leading
- 1:06:17Speaker 11: my young rookie quarterback.
- 1:06:18Speaker 10: Like, you know, you need you need the Brian Hoyer
- 1:06:22Speaker 10: mentor type guy like obviously can be better than Brian Hoyer,
- 1:06:25Speaker 10: but in terms of actually playing, but you need the
- 1:06:29Speaker 10: Jacoby Brisseid, the Gardner minshew uh to someone that has
- 1:06:33Speaker 10: no there's no notion that he could be starting or
- 1:06:36Speaker 10: like think anything differently of I'm here to mentor Jayden Daniel.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it. I'm not saying that, you know, if
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: you kept Mac there would be a notion that he
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: would start if you picked somebody in the top three.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: I'm just saying that he's a place he's a placeholder.
- 1:06:52Speaker 7: I mean, I just would speak also talk to Andy
- 1:06:54Speaker 7: and Fitzi this weekend about this. Is like I mean,
- 1:06:56Speaker 7: I always advocate draft a quarterback every year. I mean,
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: I'm not in the business of just casting aside quarterbacks
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: unless you really need to. I think it's just you know,
- 1:07:04Speaker 7: you never know when you're gonna need one, and you
- 1:07:06Speaker 7: have put a lot into Mac. I'm again I stated
- 1:07:09Speaker 7: at the top, I don't think it's it's there. But
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: at the same time, I think there is an argument
- 1:07:13Speaker 7: to be made of let him come in and fight
- 1:07:15Speaker 7: and let's you know, see what emerges from that. I mean,
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: I think there I would be against that argument, but
- 1:07:21Speaker 7: I just generally think when you need a quarterback this bad,
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: you've got to turn over every single rock that you
- 1:07:26Speaker 7: possibly can and try to figure out not only how
- 1:07:27Speaker 7: to find the guy, but you know, how to bring
- 1:07:29Speaker 7: the best play out of the guys that you saw.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: No one else is sensing like a little bit of
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: turning of the time.
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: I mean, I just so much focused on Bill and
- 1:07:36Speaker 7: back and forth and Mayo and all that.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Certainly, certainly some of the story details cast him as
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: a sympathetic figure a little bit not.
- 1:07:46Speaker 7: To me, But I mean there was the thing of
- 1:07:47Speaker 7: hearing multiple voices in his headset. I mean that was
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: one thing I read that you know, I don't know.
- 1:07:51Speaker 10: That's crazy, Yeah, that one. I just don't really like that.
- 1:07:54Speaker 10: I need more information, Like I feel like that was
- 1:07:56Speaker 10: it's thrown out there, and I just.
- 1:07:58Speaker 6: Need the frequencies were and they were talking.
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: About they were listening to Scott zoat right, I would say,
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: and don't just because I don't think it's been a
- 1:08:08Speaker 4: change in the ground swell or anything like that, I
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: still hear the occasional calls that are telling you that
- 1:08:13Speaker 4: no one could have succeeded under that scenario. Right, The Macolites.
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: That's you know what. I I still think there are
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: people I was on for four hours on Sunday and
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: we got a handful of calls that was saying, don't
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: you think it makes sense? And it's like, no, I
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: really don't. Now. I also don't think that Mac will
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: want any part of coming back.
- 1:08:32Speaker 6: That's that's probably the best.
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: Like, I think probably one of the first orders of
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: business in the off season will be Mac going to
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: Robert Craft and in asking to be request to be
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: sent somewhere. And I think that that would be in
- 1:08:48Speaker 4: everybody's best interest to grant that.
- 1:08:50Speaker 10: I think that I'm with you, Paul, that Mac is
- 1:08:54Speaker 10: not the guy, and we would have I think, Deuce
- 1:08:56Speaker 10: you said like we would have seen something if we
- 1:08:58Speaker 10: felt that way. You know that that like Trevor Lawrence
- 1:09:01Speaker 10: in the in the Urban Meyer year, right, no one
- 1:09:04Speaker 10: was gonna truly succeed with that Urban Meyer Jaguars team,
- 1:09:09Speaker 10: and I think it's similar with Mac over the last
- 1:09:11Speaker 10: two years. But Trevor Lawrence clearly showed things in that
- 1:09:15Speaker 10: Urban Meyer year that were like, all right, once he
- 1:09:17Speaker 10: gets a stable environment around him, this guy's going to
- 1:09:20Speaker 10: be pretty good. And I just don't know if we
- 1:09:22Speaker 10: ever really saw that level play for mac Jones. But
- 1:09:25Speaker 10: I agree with the sentiment that nobody last two years,
- 1:09:28Speaker 10: nobody was going to succeed with this Matt Patricia calling
- 1:09:32Speaker 10: plays and then the talent that they had this year,
- 1:09:34Speaker 10: No way.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: Yeah, So I don't know. I mean, like if the
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: stories are true about how it was supposed to be
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: a collaborative pick. But Bill really wanted to wait for
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Davis Mills. He was perfectly content to do that. You know,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: he felt he was pressured and didn't really give him
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: any help. Does he become a sympathetic figure within these walls?
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: You know, I don't know, Bill, you're saying or noh
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: for the craft, I think that happened. Yeah, I think
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: he became a sympathetic figure within these walls over the
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: last two.
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: Carry over to twenty twenty four, and give him one
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: more shot if they paid attention. Yeah, Like I'm just
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: throwing it out there, like, yeah.
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: He's facilitating Like like I'll say, like Trevor Lawrence, right
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: that Evan brought up, He's had his struggles for three years.
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: He's been a little up and down. He hasn't he
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: hasn't really established himself, as you know, in that echelon
- 1:10:25Speaker 4: with you know, the other good quarterbacks in the AFC.
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: But I haven't seen him handle this stuff like you remember,
- 1:10:33Speaker 4: do you remember, like his rookie year when there was
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: a whole thing about the quarterback sneak. Yeah, he didn't
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: kill urban Meyer.
- 1:10:38Speaker 10: For yeah, I mean he didn't kill He had plenty
- 1:10:41Speaker 10: of opportunities to throw urban Meyer.
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: He was I'm not a guy, and I'm not telling
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: you he did everything perfectly right like, So you know,
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: whenever you say something like that, someone will immediately send
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: you a link to a story from four years ago
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: where he said that urban Meyer's a meanie, you know. Like,
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: I just feel like, in general term, he's handled his
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: three years of ups and downs a lot better than
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: Mac Jones has.
- 1:11:05Speaker 10: I think that's part of it, though, right like, And
- 1:11:07Speaker 10: that's why I'm out of the franchise.
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: That's why I'm out because I haven't seen the ups, yeah,
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: and I only saw the downs.
- 1:11:14Speaker 10: And to be honest with you, I think if we
- 1:11:15Speaker 10: weren't coming off of Mac Jones, then it wouldn't worry
- 1:11:18Speaker 10: me as much. But like Caleb Williams, that part of
- 1:11:21Speaker 10: it were not the nail painting and the crying and
- 1:11:24Speaker 10: all that stuff. But just like the maturity of him
- 1:11:28Speaker 10: right now, and like how he's going to handle adversity
- 1:11:30Speaker 10: and how he's going to handle you know, the Boston media.
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: And here's where I'm a fraud. And I'll be fully
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: bitting that I'm a fraud. I'm not as worried about
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: those things because of the talent. If mac Jones had
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: that kind of talent, I would absolutely be a fraud.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: And tell you that doesn't bother me as much.
- 1:11:48Speaker 7: That's why I'd been more forgiving for some magic, laid
- 1:11:51Speaker 7: down magic field.
- 1:11:52Speaker 10: That's why I'd still take him. But I think that
- 1:11:54Speaker 10: there are those concerns I feel like that people have
- 1:11:57Speaker 10: about him. If you're if you're talking about it in
- 1:12:00Speaker 10: the right way, if you're talking about him painting his nails,
- 1:12:02Speaker 10: and you lose me. But like if you're talking about
- 1:12:04Speaker 10: the maturity the football character of the player in terms
- 1:12:07Speaker 10: of his maturity level, then I think that that's a
- 1:12:09Speaker 10: legitimate right.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: The Pealisero piece today a tweet talking about him already
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: at one of those He's already in his pre draft.
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: You know, I know a lot of the other guys
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: are too. I'm not saying that Caleb Williams is unique,
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: but for a guy who supposedly it's not that important
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: and this and that, it seems like I see a.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Little bit of not not from playing ability, but personally,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: I see a little bit of Cam Newton and Caleb.
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: Williams, and I would sign up for that in a blink.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Yeah, ten years of Cam, I take an MVP because
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: he used that playing.
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: Yeah, oh god, there's I just.
- 1:12:40Speaker 10: Wish that the conversation not to make this like a
- 1:12:42Speaker 10: Caleb Williams show, but like, I just wish the conversation
- 1:12:45Speaker 10: around Caleb Williams was actually like talking about the pros
- 1:12:48Speaker 10: and cons of him as a football player, because I
- 1:12:51Speaker 10: don't he's not a perfect prospect on film and not
- 1:12:54Speaker 10: no one is, but like he's not. I don't think
- 1:12:56Speaker 10: he's in like the Andrew.
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: Luck Yeah, and that's right, that's my benchmark, you know,
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: I don't. I never heard one really negative word that
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: draft process about Andrew Luck.
- 1:13:07Speaker 7: Well, you know, while I was watching Nabors this weekend
- 1:13:10Speaker 7: along with the rest I watched that. I watched the
- 1:13:12Speaker 7: quarterbacks and the interceders. But this was my thought on
- 1:13:14Speaker 7: on on on Caleb Williams was like, why do I
- 1:13:17Speaker 7: see so many plays where he drops back good pocket,
- 1:13:19Speaker 7: He sits there, he sits there, he breaks the pocket,
- 1:13:22Speaker 7: he runs around for a minute, and then he just
- 1:13:25Speaker 7: like chucks it and it's like, well.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: With his feet off the ground.
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: Well maybe not that extreme, but you know it's just
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: like like Jordan Love on Sunday.
- 1:13:33Speaker 7: That's what the big product, that's what they always like
- 1:13:36Speaker 7: A great majority of things when you watch like what
- 1:13:38Speaker 7: makes Caleb Williams great, it's like and sometimes it's like
- 1:13:41Speaker 7: he doesn't he breaks the pocket on his own, Like.
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: It's not like there's pressure rightnything definitely holds.
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: And so you know it's just I mean, it's in
- 1:13:49Speaker 7: and you realize again and I've said this, I'm gonna
- 1:13:51Speaker 7: say this one hundred times this spring. This is what
- 1:13:52Speaker 7: I've taken from these last few drafts is that there
- 1:13:54Speaker 7: are one or two quarterbacks in this and I don't
- 1:13:56Speaker 7: know if it's Caleb Williams or not, but there's one
- 1:13:58Speaker 7: or two maybe and the rest of these guys are
- 1:14:00Speaker 7: all going to fail. And that like I have this
- 1:14:02Speaker 7: new like negative pessimistic view of the quarterbacks now of
- 1:14:05Speaker 7: why are they all and.
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: I would be willing to accept that if you do
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: that all to all the other positions too.
- 1:14:11Speaker 10: Sure.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: I mean because that Matthew, there will be there will
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: be four or five tackles taken in the first round,
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: and one or two of them will be able to play,
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: and everybody will ignore the other three that busted because
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: they're tackles and no one everything in Greg Bernard.
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: And Matthew Stafford in his prime.
- 1:14:30Speaker 8: One wasn't.
- 1:14:31Speaker 7: Well, that's I mean, But that's what's funny, is like,
- 1:14:34Speaker 7: I mean, you know, I think I get what you're
- 1:14:36Speaker 7: getting at. I mean, and I'm not really I'm not
- 1:14:38Speaker 7: really trying to use this as an argument. I know
- 1:14:41Speaker 7: this was more, but I've almost found myself going more
- 1:14:44Speaker 7: towards wide receiver land then going to tackle land.
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: It's just okay, And I would use I would use
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: the same argument there. And I'm not talking about Listen,
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: there's going to be thirty forty wide receivers taken and
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: they'll be ten good ones. Yeah, I'm talking about the
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: four or five that are going to go in the
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: first round or whatever. Two of them will be good.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: How Kevin White work out?
- 1:15:07Speaker 8: Who I do?
- 1:15:10Speaker 10: I do hope that we did, like high for wide
- 1:15:13Speaker 10: receivers have changed from the Kevin White years where just
- 1:15:16Speaker 10: big man run fast, you know, like I hope that we've.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: I just feel like people you know, it's like Jamar
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: Chase and Justin Jefferson. I mean, this guy's like Jalen Waddle.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: They knocked it out of the park. Yeah, and there
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: are other guys that get taken.
- 1:15:28Speaker 10: You don't remember Kalen Raker, Quenton.
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: Johnston remember him right?
- 1:15:33Speaker 10: Not the reason rock did you go to see that?
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: Somebody gave him an all provo as a returner. I
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: assume it was as a return makes sense.
- 1:15:44Speaker 10: He's a good returner.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: That's insane.
- 1:15:46Speaker 10: But your receiver, the receiver take, like I'm not saying
- 1:15:51Speaker 10: calling it, your receiver take is probably a little strong,
- 1:15:53Speaker 10: and I don't want to put that on you.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: I appreciate that you're gonna answer for that.
- 1:15:57Speaker 10: You have a quarterback that can throw and an offensive
- 1:16:01Speaker 10: line that can't block. But Marvin Harrison Junior is down
- 1:16:05Speaker 10: the field wide open, jumping up and down like a
- 1:16:07Speaker 10: crazy person, Like I'm just trying to figure out where
- 1:16:10Speaker 10: like you cut? Because I look at the Jets and
- 1:16:13Speaker 10: Garrett Wilson is a thousand yards every single year coming
- 1:16:16Speaker 10: off the bus. They can't win a thing. So I
- 1:16:18Speaker 10: just like don't really see how like how is how
- 1:16:22Speaker 10: is that help? Like Marvin Harrison, you just super talented player,
- 1:16:25Speaker 10: but how does it help your bottom line?
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: I'm already on this other side seat.
- 1:16:28Speaker 7: Well, first of all, I would say, I wouldn't just
- 1:16:29Speaker 7: run them down the field if we can't protect so
- 1:16:31Speaker 7: I would probably haven't run a shorter route.
- 1:16:38Speaker 4: Crossing.
- 1:16:41Speaker 10: I would run run. I mean, I'm Lincoln Riley. I
- 1:16:44Speaker 10: run mesh on every single play.
- 1:16:46Speaker 7: I get it, I know, and it's it's this is
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: this is good conversation because I mean, and I'm not
- 1:16:50Speaker 7: I'm not fully you know where you're putting me right now,
- 1:16:52Speaker 7: But I just at least see, you know, some of
- 1:16:54Speaker 7: the consideration that you have to have, and especially as
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: a new person coming in who wants to put their
- 1:17:00Speaker 7: stamp on the organization, and if you have questions about
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: the quarterback, which I I mean, and admittedly I went
- 1:17:06Speaker 7: into kind of this weekend kind of like on Jayden Daniels,
- 1:17:09Speaker 7: but I'm much higher on him now, and you know,
- 1:17:12Speaker 7: I I mean, it's a great question.
- 1:17:14Speaker 6: You're right, and then film this weekend.
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: I did.
- 1:17:16Speaker 8: I watched the quarterbacks and some receivers.
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: You enjoy yourself, the Nabvers guy, and I was just intrigued. No,
- 1:17:22Speaker 6: I started watching it.
- 1:17:23Speaker 11: You have.
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: A take stick what you take, don't back.
- 1:17:28Speaker 10: You've got to watch Room and Wilson.
- 1:17:30Speaker 6: I haven't watch him.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:17:33Speaker 6: What did you guys think of the.
- 1:17:34Speaker 10: Organ Taekwon Thorn? Yeah, reil thin super fast.
- 1:17:39Speaker 11: I don't want any more of this.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, let's get to the phones. We'll go
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: to Tim and Boston.
- 1:17:43Speaker 10: What you have more to say?
- 1:17:46Speaker 19: Everyone?
- 1:17:46Speaker 15: Just to talk to some of these first round quarterbacks
- 1:17:48Speaker 15: real quick. Like every one of these guys has a flaw,
- 1:17:51Speaker 15: you know, as usual. You know, I got to teach
- 1:17:53Speaker 15: them how to read a defense. It's this guy's mechanics.
- 1:17:56Speaker 15: But in the history of like developing quarterbacks, which one
- 1:17:59Speaker 15: worked out most often? Like the easier to teach someone
- 1:18:02Speaker 15: to throw than it is to.
- 1:18:05Speaker 10: I would say based off of recent history. Uh, the
- 1:18:09Speaker 10: Drake May mold has worked out more times than not.
- 1:18:13Speaker 10: Like that's Drake May is like justin Herbert Josh Allen. Uh,
- 1:18:17Speaker 10: that type of guy that Drake May has got footwork
- 1:18:21Speaker 10: in some lower body mechanical things. That if you get
- 1:18:24Speaker 10: him with Jordan Palmer for an offseason, like odds are
- 1:18:26Speaker 10: that he's going to probably figure it out, and that
- 1:18:29Speaker 10: that's what those guys did. I think that that guy
- 1:18:32Speaker 10: usually works out a little bit. Jaden Daniels is like
- 1:18:35Speaker 10: the only comp for him really is Lamar, Like there's
- 1:18:38Speaker 10: a it's just not He's such a unique player that
- 1:18:42Speaker 10: I think it's difficult. Like the Caleb Williams one is like,
- 1:18:45Speaker 10: that's Zach Wilson like that. That guy's got boom er
- 1:18:48Speaker 10: bust potential all over the place that I would be
- 1:18:50Speaker 10: concerned about. Like, I think Drake may is the guy
- 1:18:52Speaker 10: that he understands the position, he knows what he's looking at,
- 1:18:55Speaker 10: he understands how to you know, work the middle of
- 1:18:58Speaker 10: the field. He just needs to fix some of the
- 1:19:00Speaker 10: refinement of his mechanics and he's going to be fine.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: You good tempt Okay, I guess so, yes, let's go
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: to SPI and Fresnow, what's up?
- 1:19:10Speaker 20: Speed Mike's new jingle is a thing of beauty? Yeah, uh,
- 1:19:17Speaker 20: Jill was giving mister Lipp.
- 1:19:18Speaker 4: A run for his money.
- 1:19:20Speaker 20: Yeah, absolutely, man, I agree with what you guys were
- 1:19:25Speaker 20: saying earlier. With you know that the decisions so far
- 1:19:29Speaker 20: maybe suggest press saw Bill is the problem and the
- 1:19:33Speaker 20: plan more or less seems like run it back minus built.
- 1:19:37Speaker 20: But it's I'm trying to reconcile that because Craft maybe
- 1:19:40Speaker 20: slip flop, Like he gives Bill that contract extension in
- 1:19:44Speaker 20: late October after losing to the Stants and the Raiders,
- 1:19:47Speaker 20: and now Bill's the main problem.
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: I just that's a little bit of speed. That's when
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: you found out about the contract extension. That's not when
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: he got it. They didn't extend it.
- 1:19:57Speaker 10: Told what happened I after last season?
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: Yeah, after the yeah, probably around this time last year.
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: Oh okay, yeah, but it was still after they just.
- 1:20:11Speaker 10: I think out of all the things that since this
- 1:20:15Speaker 10: kind of brings it up, like out of all the
- 1:20:16Speaker 10: things that all this talk about, like the Craft's meddling
- 1:20:19Speaker 10: too much and stuff like that, And clearly that's what
- 1:20:21Speaker 10: Bill thinks, because that's what's out there, Like the biggest
- 1:20:24Speaker 10: thing to me out of all like Craft coming in
- 1:20:27Speaker 10: and saying that Matt Patricia is an offensive coordinator Bill,
- 1:20:30Speaker 10: that that that's not working out. Like that's the job
- 1:20:33Speaker 10: of an owner, right is like save you from yourself
- 1:20:36Speaker 10: and be like.
- 1:20:37Speaker 4: There's a degree of meddling that should be done by
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: the owner.
- 1:20:40Speaker 10: He's in charge, right, Like it's the voice of reason
- 1:20:42Speaker 10: of being like this is not we're not doing this,
- 1:20:44Speaker 10: like this is crazy, but but putting he's right in
- 1:20:50Speaker 10: writing that Gerard Mayo is the successor to Bill Belichick
- 1:20:55Speaker 10: when Bill Belichick is still coaching. He made Bill Belichick
- 1:20:59Speaker 10: a lame duck. That's what it did. Like they made
- 1:21:02Speaker 10: Bill a lame duck.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: Well, he'll probably and I heard this thing on Paul's shows,
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: like this whole thing. Well, the plan was he was
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: going to be here for two years and hopefully the
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: team was going in the right direction, and then you
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: hand it over to Gerard instead of where it is now.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: And I'm thinking myself, Okay, so if the team's heading
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: in the right direction, why would Bill.
- 1:21:21Speaker 4: Want to leave, Like because they were figuring that they
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: would get his he would get his record, and he
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: would probably be looking to step.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Down probably, But what if he wants to keep coaching.
- 1:21:30Speaker 4: You know, then you do it for another year. I mean,
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: let's face, he's not going to coach that much longer.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I think I think the Crafts were ready to pull
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: the trigger at the beginning of this year.
- 1:21:41Speaker 10: It didn't work out, but so they made him, but
- 1:21:43Speaker 10: they made him a lame duck. And then from everything
- 1:21:46Speaker 10: that we've heard, it divided the coaching staff. So and
- 1:21:49Speaker 10: it divided the building because at people was the next guy.
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: So are you suggesting that maybe it was intentional that
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: it would quick in the pace of the deterior rate.
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: Maybe, but I do think that they were open to
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: I don't think that. In other words, I don't think
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: there was a plan a two year plan. I think
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: there was a plan as soon as it was needed
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: to make the change. Yeah.
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: No, I agree with you on that, but I do
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: think they probably looked at it as it wouldn't be
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: this year, it would probably be two years, and it
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: didn't work out that way. But the larger point that
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: I agree with with Evan on is I think unintentionally,
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: I don't think that Robert knew this was going to happen.
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: I think unintentionally they set Bill up to fail and
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: it ended up dividing some within the coaching staff.
- 1:22:39Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:22:40Speaker 20: Probably, But the original plan was to basically give Bill
- 1:22:43Speaker 20: two years so we could get the record and then run.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: Well, that's what people say. I've never heard anyone come
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: from that.
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: No, Fred Wright, Fred Right.
- 1:22:51Speaker 7: Still would have taken two what two nine one seasons?
- 1:22:53Speaker 10: I mean, yeah, yeah, I just I look at that
- 1:22:57Speaker 10: set up and when you look back on it now,
- 1:22:59Speaker 10: like that's a dysfunctional setup. But I can't just you
- 1:23:01Speaker 10: can't promise somebody a job when guys.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Still I could people say that they sealed those fate
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: when they wrote the letter to season ticket holders at
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: the end.
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: Of last Well, I think it all kind of goes
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: hand in hand. That's when the Mayo thing happened, right.
- 1:23:14Speaker 10: And then Mayo goes and has the Karen Griggian asked
- 1:23:17Speaker 10: the question and he says, the timing is interesting, And
- 1:23:20Speaker 10: at first I thought, oh, the timing is interesting. He's
- 1:23:22Speaker 10: saying that because they're three and thirteen or what. No,
- 1:23:25Speaker 10: he was saying that because he knew that he was
- 1:23:26Speaker 10: the next guy and people in the building knew it too, So, oh,
- 1:23:31Speaker 10: the timing is interesting. All of a sudden, now I
- 1:23:33Speaker 10: have this contract that I'm the air apparent, and now
- 1:23:35Speaker 10: people are starting to talk and talk about me.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: It's like this guy, he loves to throw the word
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: out swear. Yeah, he's a little potty.
- 1:23:46Speaker 10: If that's a swear word.
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: Then we have a very low ball is nowadays. Yeah,
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: they say that on regularly, they really do.
- 1:23:52Speaker 7: There's no more like you know, they used to peep
- 1:23:54Speaker 7: it out like forget you.
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: Yeah, like ESPN last night, you know one of the
- 1:23:59Speaker 4: press conferences, someone did that did a peeper? No, no, no,
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: no peeper. Now just that that word is like just
- 1:24:07Speaker 4: a bleep.
- 1:24:08Speaker 10: If I said the F word, then I'd be mad
- 1:24:09Speaker 10: at myself.
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: Sean McVay after the Sunday Night game, he might have
- 1:24:14Speaker 4: said something about sugar. That's word sugar, Chris with a T,
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: I A N.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Hey, Christian, Hey.
- 1:24:21Speaker 20: You've been most like a sailor.
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: It's crazy.
- 1:24:23Speaker 4: Where have you been?
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: Bro?
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: What do you got to do? What do you got
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: more important than this?
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: Look?
- 1:24:30Speaker 5: It was a very emotional week last week, Paula. It
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: it takes me a while to you know, to call it.
- 1:24:34Speaker 5: I gotta get my bearings a boat. Twenty four years
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: is a long.
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: Time, you know, Okay, so intimately connected for the past.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: For the past two years and then as soon as
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: I'm going onto the website last week and see Robert,
- 1:24:48Speaker 5: see him and Robert walk out. If I was in
- 1:24:50Speaker 5: the room, I probably said no, don't leave, I love
- 1:24:52Speaker 5: you please.
- 1:24:53Speaker 17: Day.
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: It was just it was a surreal moment. Yeah, it's
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: I And I hear everybody these thoughts about the Mayo
- 1:25:01Speaker 5: higher and I get it, Like I would have liked to,
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: like prol like for them to have gone outside and
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: and and and look around. But I'm putting my faith
- 1:25:11Speaker 5: back in the ownership. They identified this guy, they clearly
- 1:25:14Speaker 5: like him, and you know, they went ahead and rewrote
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: the contract and and and made him the guy. So
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: and I do like what Robert did last week, coming
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: back out after him and Bill to answer questions. I
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: thought this year he was really getting killed a lot
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: for not commenting on this season and Bill's job, and
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: I thought it was important for him to come out
- 1:25:36Speaker 5: and do what he did. And as a fan, you know,
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: it it to me. This may sound kind of corny,
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: but it meant a lot. It meant a lot to
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: hear from him and for him to you know, to
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: have that time with the media.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: I think it's always important for fans to hear from
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: their owners, especially in times like this thing. Yeah, there
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: is you know, upset or motivated or whatever as you are,
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: you know, like they want to win as much as
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: you do.
- 1:26:03Speaker 8: I have.
- 1:26:04Speaker 10: I just like and I don't want to speak for everybody,
- 1:26:07Speaker 10: but Gerard's not the problem with what's going on right now. No,
- 1:26:10Speaker 10: I'm actually pretty excited about Gerard. I think it's the
- 1:26:13Speaker 10: the idea of it is great. I love that he's,
- 1:26:16Speaker 10: you know, a younger coach that hopefully will have a
- 1:26:18Speaker 10: little bit more of a modern spin on it. I
- 1:26:20Speaker 10: love that the players love him, Like I think that's
- 1:26:23Speaker 10: very very clear. It's all it's everything that's going on
- 1:26:25Speaker 10: around him that is that it's concerning right Like there's
- 1:26:28Speaker 10: no general manager. You know, you're hearing a lot of stuff,
- 1:26:32Speaker 10: and I just you know, a lot of people are
- 1:26:34Speaker 10: talking by the way, like we're not supposed to say much,
- 1:26:37Speaker 10: but like this is as much chatter as I've heard
- 1:26:39Speaker 10: around the building.
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: Everyone's lining up, you know where it's still you know,
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: the the dust hasn't settled from last week.
- 1:26:48Speaker 10: So there's a lot of incertain Like there's a lot
- 1:26:50Speaker 10: of people in this building on the football side of things.
- 1:26:52Speaker 10: I don't know if they have a.
- 1:26:53Speaker 4: Job or I would agree with with Evan with regard
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: to Mayo. I I don't have any problems with him
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: being the success.
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: I think it's in all our interests to support him
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: and make sure he got Yeah.
- 1:27:05Speaker 4: But even if it wasn't, that would I still I
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: think a lot of Mayo. I think highly of him,
- 1:27:10Speaker 4: and I don't think it's a terrible choice. I don't.
- 1:27:13Speaker 4: I just think that it didn't need to be done
- 1:27:16Speaker 4: the way it was.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: But I think you well, our pad from Hungary, he
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: disagrees with you, Paul. He says, I don't mind not
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: doing interviews. You know, you make those interviews and at
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: the end it turns out it was Mayo. Anyway, no
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: chance for those coaches who went in for the interview
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: would be a bad look for the Patriots. They'd be
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: losing credibility.
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: Disagree.
- 1:27:35Speaker 10: I also have no problem with the head coaching interview
- 1:27:39Speaker 10: is whatever, Like you think Mayo's the guy? Mayo is
- 1:27:40Speaker 10: the guy?
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: Great?
- 1:27:42Speaker 10: What the offensive coordinator? Are we gonna have an actual
- 1:27:45Speaker 10: process for that or are we just going to pick
- 1:27:47Speaker 10: Bill O'Brien back, you know, like it was last year,
- 1:27:49Speaker 10: in actual process or was it a sham? Because I
- 1:27:51Speaker 10: think it was kind of a sham.
- 1:27:53Speaker 7: That's where the reporting has been all over the place.
- 1:27:55Speaker 7: I mean, between the report Josh could be back that
- 1:27:58Speaker 7: without came out early last weekend to Bill O'Brien, could
- 1:28:01Speaker 7: be back to you know, and then the guy that
- 1:28:04Speaker 7: in Carolina is defensive right defensive coordinator interviewing him. So
- 1:28:07Speaker 7: even that through the lens of could Steve come back?
- 1:28:10Speaker 7: I mean, is it even necessarily as a defensive coordinator?
- 1:28:13Speaker 7: Could he just kind of stay as a linebacker's coach site?
- 1:28:16Speaker 7: I think this is the questions we're waiting for.
- 1:28:18Speaker 17: Now.
- 1:28:18Speaker 10: What's that intrigued that they're even interviewing people for leadership
- 1:28:23Speaker 10: positions on the staff, which means that Gerard is having
- 1:28:26Speaker 10: an open mind about these positions, Like if it was
- 1:28:29Speaker 10: just going to be Steve, then why bring Tim Lubick
- 1:28:31Speaker 10: even in the building right like or virtually or whatever.
- 1:28:34Speaker 10: So at least like there are some rumblings that it
- 1:28:37Speaker 10: that they are there's openings on the staff and he's
- 1:28:40Speaker 10: not just filling them with retreads. Like there's a legitimate.
- 1:28:44Speaker 7: Special teams thing is legit too, because that's just that's
- 1:28:46Speaker 7: another thing that they've gone by the wayside, and this
- 1:28:49Speaker 7: is just that's a bad special teams you talk about.
- 1:28:51Speaker 7: You just could use a fresh start there. This is
- 1:28:53Speaker 7: an opportunity to do it.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Sebastian from Clifton, New Jersey said, did you know that
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: lazarre is Spanish for the idea football czars.
- 1:29:06Speaker 10: I'm you don't even I'm already on peril.
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: You don't even need to Claire Rights and everyone. I
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: totally agree with Fred. It would be great for Steve
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: Belichick to stay at the Patriots and for and the Patriots,
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: and for Steve. Steve gets to prove his worth without
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: his dad, and the defense is so bloody good. I
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: hope Mayo balances bringing back some of the good and
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: finding lots more. As for Bill moving on to another team,
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: but running it back, that's kind of why he had
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: to go. He's too much of bringing it all back.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: In that way, no one can move on.
- 1:29:41Speaker 7: I don't really have anything against Steve Belichick, but I'd
- 1:29:44Speaker 7: love to see DeMarcus Covington get a chance, like I
- 1:29:46Speaker 7: just I think he's outstanding young coach.
- 1:29:48Speaker 6: He's just been one of my one of my favorites, and.
- 1:29:51Speaker 10: He had the team this year. The defensive line was
- 1:29:54Speaker 10: by far the best, best prepared, best coach, best play
- 1:29:58Speaker 10: all of it.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: So uh, Todd and Garner. I have noticed in multiple
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: reports that male feels that these new kids need to
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: know the why for what they They need to know
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: why for whatever what they have to do. Now, wasn't
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: this the exact complaint coming from Mac regarding the offenses
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: he was asked to engage in after McDaniel's left. Is
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: there a chance that the team feels like Mack was
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: mismanaged and that they owe him another shot?
- 1:30:25Speaker 10: I think that you can. And the sentence that the
- 1:30:28Speaker 10: team thinks Mac is was m mismanaged the other shot
- 1:30:31Speaker 10: part of it, I don't. I don't really see how
- 1:30:33Speaker 10: that's pert.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: This is a message to the Crafts from mattin framing him.
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: I thought the smear campaigned by the Crafts and the
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: seth Wickersham piece was total bs. The Crafts made the
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: right decision to send Belichick packing, But for Pete's sake,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: don't be like that dirt bag John Henry with putting
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: the hit pieces, with Terry Francona, with Bob Holer from
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: the Globe. You're better than this. Take your medicine and
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: try to fix the mess Belichick behind.
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not going to go all homerrific on you here.
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: I think that, But I think that went both ways.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: Oh, Yeah.
- 1:31:07Speaker 4: I think the hit pieces went both.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: I think there were people talking from both camps yes
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: in that yep, yeah, which.
- 1:31:13Speaker 10: I wish didn't go on like I wis from both.
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: I wish at least it could have gone more than
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: like eighteen hours before we started hearing about it. I mean,
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: obviously they both knew what they had already said to
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: to the the authors of those you know Vannatda and
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: Wickersham and right was it right Thompson involved in that one.
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: Nick from Omaha question for the group one thing we
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: saw this season where the fans and players desired to
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: roll with Greer or Cunningham, and Patriots Unfiltered summarized this
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: phenomenon as simply because it's the other guy, which I agreed,
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: because people like talent that isn't tainted.
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: Yet.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: If the rumors are true that Mayo's contract terms to
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: be the successor leaked and the influence relationships and it
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: influenced relationships this past year, are we concerned that the
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: players and others like Mayo simply for the same reasons.
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: It's not your current bad option and you just want
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: to move on to something untainted, or do you feel
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: more encouraged for Mayo in this situation.
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: No, I think he's been upfront doing it.
- 1:32:11Speaker 7: I mean, you know, I think the thing with Malie
- 1:32:13Speaker 7: Cunningham is that fans were just kind of assuming, you know,
- 1:32:16Speaker 7: that that he'd be great. I mean, and the players
- 1:32:18Speaker 7: talked about it in the locker room and kind of
- 1:32:20Speaker 7: insinuated that maybe he was. But at least with Mayo,
- 1:32:22Speaker 7: we've talked to him, we've seen him on the sideline, we.
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: You know, know a little bit. But it's fair as
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: far as he's.
- 1:32:27Speaker 7: Not the most experienced guy in the world. This is
- 1:32:29Speaker 7: one of the fair criticisms of Draw Mayo. He doesn't have,
- 1:32:32Speaker 7: you know, this depth of work outside of this organization
- 1:32:35Speaker 7: where he's you know, coach multiple position groups and you know,
- 1:32:38Speaker 7: seeing a lot of different stuff. He's kind of been
- 1:32:40Speaker 7: pretty insular here in New England, and you know that's
- 1:32:43Speaker 7: that's part of it. So I don't think you're totally wrong.
- 1:32:45Speaker 4: I think the Cunningham situation is first, I don't really
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: remember any hue and cry outside of fans for Will Grier.
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: I don't remember any players. Sorry, but I think the
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: players looked at Cunningham was they feel some of them
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: feel like he was Une wrong because they didn't let
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: him play quarterback. Yeah, like so that's kind of a
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: different dynamic. It wasn't necessarily that they thought cunning him.
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: I mean, I think some I think Trent Brown said
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: it that, you know, maybe who knows, he could have
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: given us a spark and added some electricity to the offense.
- 1:33:16Speaker 4: But I think that the biggest problem the players had
- 1:33:19Speaker 4: with that situation was that he wasn't allowed to play quarterbacks. Misused,
- 1:33:23Speaker 4: he was misused, mismanner Dasset potentially.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple people emailing they're not happy with the
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: not interviewing people other, you know, other than jirod. So
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: just to get that out there, people are saying that
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: Andre from New Jersey says Fred always had have this
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: saying back in the days when the Chargers used to
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: get off the bus and Cole Weather and blah blah blah,
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: that's what it was like for the Dolphins in case
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: a high powered offense that only scored seven points. Speaking
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: of Fred, I'm a little disappointed in him. I thought
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: he has all the power the boss man, where he
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: can sit in big meetings on Thursday to talk Robert
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: Kraft out of the decision to fire, the greatest coach
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: of all time. Come on, Fred, if you would have
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: said something, Belichick would still be here. Probably would have said.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: What makes you think you wanted to talk him out
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: of it? Yeah, Miami's problem this year was more than
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: about more than just the weather. So many injuries, but
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: they but that their off their offense basically did that
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: against playoff caliber opponents for most of the year. You know,
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: a couple of exceptions here and there. They they played
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: very well against Dallas, but for the most part they
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: got shut down by by good teams.
- 1:34:39Speaker 11: It was like pretty much like any team over five hundred,
- 1:34:41Speaker 11: they were not great against.
- 1:34:43Speaker 10: They're a fascinating team offensively just because they're their efficiency,
- 1:34:49Speaker 10: like everything's off the charts at that offense, and then
- 1:34:51Speaker 10: they get into these games and they can't score.
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: I thought they didn't run the ball enough Saturday night
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: early in the game. Yeah, but you know, I do
- 1:35:02Speaker 4: think that their injuries like sort of prevented them from
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: having any chance of Look at.
- 1:35:06Speaker 10: McDaniel like that that that was a big thing for McVeigh.
- 1:35:09Speaker 10: And I know, you know when they won the Super
- 1:35:11Speaker 10: Bowl with Stafford, they everybody plays that offense very similarly
- 1:35:17Speaker 10: structurally defensively, and then McVeigh ended up putting some more
- 1:35:20Speaker 10: inside run game into the playbook and like really install
- 1:35:24Speaker 10: like a duo run game. And you know all those
- 1:35:26Speaker 10: like wide zone defenses that they're facing that put all
- 1:35:29Speaker 10: their numbers out on the edges. Now all of a sudden,
- 1:35:32Speaker 10: they're going right up the middle at you and.
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: See Green Bay versus Dallas.
- 1:35:36Speaker 10: Yeah, And I think that that's where McDaniel's issues is
- 1:35:39Speaker 10: right now, is that you know, they're wide zone, wide zone,
- 1:35:42Speaker 10: wide zone, and they're just running it right into the
- 1:35:45Speaker 10: the game plan of the opponent.
- 1:35:46Speaker 7: Doesn't kind of frustrate frustrate you a little bit that
- 1:35:49Speaker 7: the Patriots didn't have more ability to shut that offense down,
- 1:35:52Speaker 7: like because I know that they had they didn't really
- 1:35:53Speaker 7: get rolled over by, but they haven't really been able
- 1:35:55Speaker 7: to beat tua it.
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: You know my answer, So I'll stay out of this.
- 1:35:59Speaker 6: It's frustrated.
- 1:36:00Speaker 7: You know, the other teams seem to give them a
- 1:36:02Speaker 7: lot harder time for the Patriots defense that you know
- 1:36:05Speaker 7: is pretty is pretty pretty well respectful.
- 1:36:07Speaker 10: I still think that the Patriots defense has some issues
- 1:36:10Speaker 10: with the teams that can horizontally stretch the field.
- 1:36:12Speaker 6: What they're saying, but I mean to your point, Pa,
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: I mean, I know what you're saying, but like they.
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: Were better every year. I will say this year I
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: thought they were better against good offenses than they have
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: been in the past, but still kind of average.
- 1:36:24Speaker 7: Yeah, it's just you know, I would just think at
- 1:36:27Speaker 7: the sample size, like you know, even with Josh Allen,
- 1:36:29Speaker 7: it felt like maybe they started to catch on a little.
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: Bit this year, like they got to do that with
- 1:36:32Speaker 6: two of next year.
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: Connor says, what are your thoughts on Cliff Kingsbury for
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: offensive coordinator and pairing him with a rookie quarterback?
- 1:36:39Speaker 10: So Cliff Kingsbury is going, I think, going to be
- 1:36:43Speaker 10: a coordinator somewhere next year, and it very well could
- 1:36:47Speaker 10: be following Caleb Williams because he's at USC now and
- 1:36:50Speaker 10: apparently has a pretty good relationship with Caleb Williams. I mean,
- 1:36:53Speaker 10: if you're one of these teams that's just like desperate
- 1:36:55Speaker 10: to get any sort of spark for your franchise and
- 1:36:59Speaker 10: you're picking up the top like a Washington or something
- 1:37:01Speaker 10: like that, it's attempting pairing.
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: Marty writes in with Bill now actively looking to coach somewhere,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: Mary do you think some other teams such as the Bears, Jaguars,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: and Jets, are now regretting sticking with their head coach,
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: And do you think any of them might change their
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: mind now that Bill's on the market. Personally, I think
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: the Jets are actually the best fit for Bill in
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: terms of roster, and we know he loves Rogers, but
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: I doubt it.
- 1:37:25Speaker 8: Don't love the Jets.
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: Yeah, the Jets were a non factor.
- 1:37:28Speaker 11: I know.
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: I don't think the other teams are.
- 1:37:30Speaker 7: You can't fire your coach thinking you're gonna because one
- 1:37:33Speaker 7: guy what you don't get them, then.
- 1:37:34Speaker 10: You're I do find like the whole Bill thing fascinating though,
- 1:37:37Speaker 10: because you see a lot of Dallas people that are
- 1:37:40Speaker 10: kind of pushing back on the notion of Bill going
- 1:37:43Speaker 10: there because of his age, and you know, they're looking
- 1:37:46Speaker 10: at it like, what do you get Bill for two years?
- 1:37:49Speaker 10: You get Bill maybe for three years and then what
- 1:37:51Speaker 10: you know? And I like a team like the Falcons
- 1:37:53Speaker 10: that's still kind of in the middle of a rebuild there,
- 1:37:56Speaker 10: it's like.
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I think that concerned that the Cowboys might
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: have would be the same for any team, even more
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: so for the Falcons because I think the Cowboys are
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: ready to win. They've got all the ingredients.
- 1:38:09Speaker 10: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:38:10Speaker 11: Maybe they can get you know, their super Bowl win
- 1:38:12Speaker 11: and be like okay, cool.
- 1:38:13Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: I mean to me, like, if I was a Cowboys fan,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: it would be worth having Bill Belichick for three years
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: if I knew one of them would be a super Bowl.
- 1:38:22Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: Oh yeah, Well the last part is the key. Yeah,
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: but if I knew one of them was going to
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: be a super Bowl.
- 1:38:28Speaker 11: But if Falcons needing more helpful, But I.
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: Would sign up for it. If I were the Falcons
- 1:38:32Speaker 4: and I only had them for three years and I
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: knew one of them was going to be a super Bowl,
- 1:38:35Speaker 4: I don't sign up. But that's if you're not going
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: to get the super Bowl. No, I know, but you're
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: in the same spot.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: But that's a lot more likely. With the Cowboys and
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: the Falcons, it's a little more likely. I think a
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: lot more.
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: I think Bill could do something with that Falcons team.
- 1:38:50Speaker 6: I'd like to see what Bill did with Michael Parsons.
- 1:38:52Speaker 7: That would be fun.
- 1:38:53Speaker 4: Yeah, and you've yeah.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: I mean that's why that's why McCarthy's getting fired, is
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: because they know that they're a hell of a lot
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: better than one and done for everything.
- 1:39:03Speaker 10: All the crap that Jerry Jones does get they can
- 1:39:07Speaker 10: build it. The roster down there in Dallas sold they're
- 1:39:10Speaker 10: one of the best talent evaluating teams in the league.
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: All I ever hear is that they're meddling owners that
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: think they're the GM. Stephen Jones is the GM. Yeah,
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: and they can't keep their minds their noses out of football.
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: And then every year they get knocked out of the
- 1:39:23Speaker 4: playoffs in the first round and everybody says they underachieved. Again,
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: imagine all that talent and one of those things can't
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: be true, right.
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: But if you have the right coach that can mix
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: that talent together, then now you're a super Bowl content.
- 1:39:36Speaker 6: Do you think?
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: But is he the right coach? Yeah?
- 1:39:38Speaker 10: I mean Will McClay is like the he's the real
- 1:39:41Speaker 10: hero behind the scenes there in Dallas there is that
- 1:39:44Speaker 10: the guy that they won't let player, like the real
- 1:39:48Speaker 10: scout on that staff and the Joneses kind of just
- 1:39:51Speaker 10: make the final decisions.
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: David and Bethlehem Patriots have a dilemma, it says. The
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: subject line is we're number three. It's like Friday night
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: when they put the lights on low and you wonder
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: if you should ask her for that last dance. Hate me,
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: but the Patriots have so many needs that trade back
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: makes sense.
- 1:40:08Speaker 4: I like that take better than Deuce's. Let's run it back, run.
- 1:40:12Speaker 8: It back to Mac.
- 1:40:14Speaker 7: I'm making t shirts you can buy him on that.
- 1:40:16Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know, trade down, and don't mix
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: those up with twenty eight to three because Mac would
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: stand no chance.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: Let's see Elliott Alex and Mount Holly says, yes, algebra
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: does help you in everyday life after grade school. For example,
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: the any piece of track BB from HC and ad
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: JM to equal seven s B. In all seriousness, I
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: hope GIROD could start to build some success in a
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: few years. We make the playoffs soon onto more important news.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: I think Bill landing in Dallas makes sense for both
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: sides to win a title in a small window. Just
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: don't think the working relationship makes sense between Jerry and Bill.
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: I think the real team to hire Bill is Philly.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: As for the draft, as a proud North Carolina State
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: alum and hatred for University of Spoiled Children, I would
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: be more than happy to take Daniels at three because
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: I love the upside in him. I think he could
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: be close to what Stroud had for regular for a
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: rookie regular season if the situation doesn't ruin him. And
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: from what I've heard, he has a better work ethic
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: than May and Williams. Back up Joe Alt and take
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: two wide receivers on day two. Finally, my short list
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: for GM is as follows former offensive coordinator assistant Evan Lazar,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: Elliott Wolf, Dave Ziegler, Bill's dog, Nike, and a fall
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: else fails. Paul, I.
- 1:41:42Speaker 10: Haven't talked to me if they if I want to interview.
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: Yet, I like the the work, the work ethic.
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: What if I say that you're doing.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: Than Drake May and Caleb I.
- 1:41:52Speaker 10: Can I can double do. I can do both.
- 1:41:54Speaker 4: Okay, it seems like it seems like a very well
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: sourced Uh yeah, take right.
- 1:41:59Speaker 8: Well.
- 1:42:00Speaker 10: In defense of the emailer, Jaden Daniels does have a
- 1:42:03Speaker 10: lot of positive buzz about how much better he has got,
- 1:42:07Speaker 10: you know, like Calebilliams has just been good the whole time,
- 1:42:09Speaker 10: which I'm cool with that, but that.
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: Means he has a bad work ethic. No, Like so
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: those two, he might have the very same work ethic
- 1:42:16Speaker 4: that Jayden Daniels. Has he just started at a higher level.
- 1:42:19Speaker 10: Yeah, yeah, But Jaden Daniels, you know, I was talking
- 1:42:22Speaker 10: to like Kaysehan Boody for example, in the locker room
- 1:42:24Speaker 10: like a couple of months ago about Jayden Daniels and
- 1:42:26Speaker 10: he was like, you know he was with him last year.
- 1:42:28Speaker 10: Obviously he's like last year, you know, like there's a
- 1:42:31Speaker 10: lot of to be honest, there's a lot of holes
- 1:42:33Speaker 10: in his game. Like there was just things that you know,
- 1:42:35Speaker 10: you could tell that wasn't all the way there. But
- 1:42:37Speaker 10: now watching him now and talking to the guys back there,
- 1:42:40Speaker 10: he really went to work.
- 1:42:41Speaker 4: Okay. Just you know how sometimes we have these asides
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: on journalism in general, like that is a perfect example
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: of why there is a lot of value in being
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: in the locker room and the other talk to players.
- 1:42:55Speaker 11: You have to evidence in the locker room, he goes
- 1:42:57Speaker 11: to work.
- 1:42:58Speaker 4: No, Like I know a lot of people think that
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: reporters just want to go in the locker room so
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: they can get the dirt and they can you know,
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: they get they cozy up to players and they get
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: their sources and they want to rip everybody. And you know,
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: like Parcels used to say, he used to call us
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: commis subvert from within, right, that's what he used to Like.
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: That's not generally why everybody wants to do the job,
- 1:43:22Speaker 4: but that's an example of how you can get value
- 1:43:25Speaker 4: out of being in the locker room. You get one
- 1:43:27Speaker 4: of Jaden Daniels, not just teammates from last year, but
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: a guy he threw the ball to last year, and
- 1:43:33Speaker 4: you get his take on a guy like that. That's
- 1:43:36Speaker 4: that's valuable information. Yes, that is another compliment and the
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: other one, you know, you can take it if you want.
- 1:43:47Speaker 10: Really meant a lot to me.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: Boardes used to go in the locker room, speaking of
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: subverting from within.
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: They're not using you enough.
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not getting enough reps.
- 1:43:57Speaker 8: This is true.
- 1:43:58Speaker 4: You should play more.
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: I can't believe they haven't given you an extension yet,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: you know, and just get the guy going.
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: That's what they do in New York.
- 1:44:06Speaker 10: I do really love that though, Like, especially at the
- 1:44:08Speaker 10: Patriots locker room, there's a lot of guys in there
- 1:44:11Speaker 10: that have played high level college football. And you know,
- 1:44:13Speaker 10: whether it's talking to guys about BAMA guys, LSU guys,
- 1:44:17Speaker 10: Michigan guys.
- 1:44:19Speaker 6: Michigan, Virginia Tech, not just kidding.
- 1:44:21Speaker 11: There used to be just can I hear anymore?
- 1:44:23Speaker 10: Texas Texas got Adrian Phillips in there from Texas School.
- 1:44:29Speaker 10: Adrian Phillips.
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: Sorry, one of them wasn't all pro.
- 1:44:33Speaker 4: Michigan, wasn't Phillips.
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: Eric's in New Jersey? What's up? Eric?
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: I mean school?
- 1:44:39Speaker 8: All right?
- 1:44:42Speaker 21: The only guess you I had with Craft? Uh with
- 1:44:44Speaker 21: Craft Beach the other day when he gave a compliment,
- 1:44:48Speaker 21: I'm saying that he knew more football than him. I
- 1:44:50Speaker 21: just know we're gonna live that. We're not gonna let
- 1:44:52Speaker 21: that one down for a while. But the offensive coordinators,
- 1:44:56Speaker 21: what do you guys think of you know, maybe like
- 1:44:58Speaker 21: a the enemy you know in a bag. Maybe Nick Keley,
- 1:45:01Speaker 21: some of these guys like what is the chance that
- 1:45:03Speaker 21: maybe we can get that farmhouse where we once had
- 1:45:06Speaker 21: that system where we can just repunished guys up? What
- 1:45:09Speaker 21: do you think the GIRO take moving forward? And I'll
- 1:45:11Speaker 21: take it off the line.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: Thanks, okay, thanks sir.
- 1:45:15Speaker 6: There, I don't know. I mean what Nick Kelly has
- 1:45:16Speaker 6: gone one year.
- 1:45:17Speaker 7: I mean I like him.
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: I just I question if that's enough of a shift.
- 1:45:22Speaker 4: For people bring him up as an offensive But.
- 1:45:25Speaker 7: He's gonna come here and teach the new offense to everybody.
- 1:45:27Speaker 7: After just one year as whatever he was.
- 1:45:29Speaker 10: There the offense, I had to bring him back as
- 1:45:33Speaker 10: Liken's coach again.
- 1:45:35Speaker 4: He wasn't it He with the Raiders, Nick Kelly, he
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: didn't go to the he's with the Rams. Oh yeah,
- 1:45:41Speaker 4: then that would be even more interested in him.
- 1:45:43Speaker 10: Yeah no, I mean I'd much rather try to poach
- 1:45:45Speaker 10: Zack Robinson.
- 1:45:46Speaker 4: Yeah, me too. And we could always bring back Bill
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: because he would really like Zach Robinson because he covered
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: kicks when he was a rookie. What a back covering kicks.
- 1:45:54Speaker 10: That's really impressive.
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Williams practice.
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: Them?
- 1:46:00Speaker 8: Okay?
- 1:46:01Speaker 19: How the team going over there?
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: Y'all?
- 1:46:02Speaker 10: Okay, I'm not great, William. Have you seen the football
- 1:46:10Speaker 10: team lately?
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: William Evan wants a GM.
- 1:46:14Speaker 11: I would like to stop stop snow trying.
- 1:46:17Speaker 10: We're trying together because we're brave, right.
- 1:46:22Speaker 19: I don't know where to begin because I have so
- 1:46:24Speaker 19: many tastes and I know it's like one forty five.
- 1:46:26Speaker 19: I know you're about to be done, so I'll just
- 1:46:29Speaker 19: start with this one day, Evan, you said someone catch
- 1:46:33Speaker 19: twenty two that Jayson Daniels is something like justin Fields.
- 1:46:39Speaker 19: So my take to you is, Okay, if the if
- 1:46:43Speaker 19: the Patriots, I'm not saying that I want this to
- 1:46:45Speaker 19: happen that I don't want nobody around the but if
- 1:46:47Speaker 19: they did take Marvin Harrison Junior, you wouldn't trade see
- 1:46:52Speaker 19: what in the second round basically to get a Justin
- 1:46:54Speaker 19: Fields seeing you saying Jay and Dan's is almost like
- 1:46:57Speaker 19: him or somewhat of it has some of historys Uh.
- 1:47:02Speaker 10: I don't know. I guess like if it's a second
- 1:47:04Speaker 10: maybe I think about it, but I just would Justin Fields,
- 1:47:09Speaker 10: I just feel like if it was going to click
- 1:47:12Speaker 10: for him as a complete passer, it would have clicked.
- 1:47:16Speaker 10: It's kind of like what we were talking about earlier,
- 1:47:17Speaker 10: like you would have seen it by now. And I
- 1:47:19Speaker 10: just yeah, I just I just don't. It's very rare
- 1:47:23Speaker 10: that a guy like five six years in now it happens.
- 1:47:26Speaker 10: You know, Baker Mayfield, Gino Smith, those guys have done
- 1:47:28Speaker 10: it a little bit, I guess, but it's pretty rare
- 1:47:30Speaker 10: that it just all of a sudden comes together for
- 1:47:32Speaker 10: a guy like that.
- 1:47:34Speaker 19: Okay, one last question this foot fall. Well, I see
- 1:47:38Speaker 19: that you are very much into trading damp Okay, so
- 1:47:42Speaker 19: can you give me a scenario what it would look
- 1:47:44Speaker 19: like as far as okay, we trade down with whatever team,
- 1:47:47Speaker 19: what would we get back and return other than they
- 1:47:50Speaker 19: are picking the first round? What else would we get?
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: Yeah, I just think it's it's a possibility if you
- 1:47:58Speaker 4: don't have a quarterback. If a quarterback is not there
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: at three, I would be listening to offers. But yeah,
- 1:48:07Speaker 4: you get maybe a first round pick next year and
- 1:48:10Speaker 4: a second round pick this year.
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: You could.
- 1:48:12Speaker 4: I mean, depending on how far that team wants to
- 1:48:15Speaker 4: move you can get. Obviously, the bigger jump a team makes,
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: the more you're gonna get. But the more then you're
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: gonna drop right right. But like that, that to me
- 1:48:25Speaker 4: is okay because I don't need alt Or for Shanu.
- 1:48:31Speaker 4: I can get another tackle, you know, at eleven, I
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: don't need to get the best tackle quarterback. I want
- 1:48:39Speaker 4: my pick of the litter, you know. Like that, that's
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: a little bit different.
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: You gotta love them. Thanks will Let's see, But.
- 1:48:46Speaker 4: I'm not necessarily you know, that's gung hope for trading
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: trading down. I just think it's if if Williams and
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: Mago won two and you're not sold on Daniels, I
- 1:48:57Speaker 4: think that's in play.
- 1:48:57Speaker 6: There might be some interest to that pick. I mean,
- 1:48:59Speaker 6: you've got because someone is going to be there.
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: Because someone will be interested in Daniels, and a team
- 1:49:04Speaker 4: that maybe already has a quarterback might strongly be interested
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: in Harrison or Nabs.
- 1:49:11Speaker 10: So last year, the Cardinals traded down exactly from three, right,
- 1:49:14Speaker 10: they went from three to twelve. Now that's a little
- 1:49:16Speaker 10: bit far from me.
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: Yeah, that's the Houston pick.
- 1:49:18Speaker 10: But right, so that's the Houston pick. So they got
- 1:49:20Speaker 10: for number three, they got number twelve, number thirty three,
- 1:49:24Speaker 10: a twenty twenty four first rounder, and a twenty twenty
- 1:49:27Speaker 10: four to third rounder for number three and number one
- 1:49:30Speaker 10: oh five.
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: That's that's the Hall. But that's what I'm talking about.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: That's nine spots though, But I'd be interested in that
- 1:49:37Speaker 4: if I had decided I don't really like Daniels, Right,
- 1:49:41Speaker 4: So what they did, I like Daniels. I'm staying put
- 1:49:43Speaker 4: and taking because then they traded back up from twelve.
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: So they used what they got, ycause.
- 1:49:48Speaker 10: To trade back up like three or four spots to
- 1:49:49Speaker 10: take Paris Johnson at like seven or something like that.
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: So it sounds good.
- 1:49:53Speaker 12: That's a hall.
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: I mean, when you're a team like the Patriots right
- 1:49:56Speaker 6: now it's it's and they short on draft pick two
- 1:49:59Speaker 6: first rounders next year.
- 1:50:01Speaker 7: I mean, I like that.
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: Gino from Jersey. Uh just wanted to point out what
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: you guys said earlier about drafting Harrison and ending up
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: like the Jets with Wilson. Why can't we go the
- 1:50:11Speaker 1: forty nine ers route and get the players first for
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: any quarterback to succeed. I know it might be difficult
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: because you'd have to draft right and develop players, but
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: if we're patient enough, the payoff could be amazing. What's
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: your opinion?
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: Okay, So that is a possibility, and that is something
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: that a lot of people talk about. So what do
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: you think of Breis Hall as a player? What do
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: you think of Garrett Wilson, Jeremiah Johnson? There's pretty good players,
- 1:50:39Speaker 4: Jermaine call them Jeremiah Jermaine Johnson, you know. But Quentin
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: Williams would be another one. So the Jets are an
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: example of the Niners. They're trying to get everything quarterback proof,
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: but they don't have a quarterback.
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: And how long can you keep the quarterback play together?
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: So they did the same thing that the Niners did,
- 1:51:01Speaker 4: only they did it at two instead of three, same draft,
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: same bust. It's hard. And if Brock Purdy was no good,
- 1:51:12Speaker 4: I'm not arguing with you. If he was no good
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: at all, they would not be a super Bowl threat.
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: If he was Zach Wilson playing like Zach Wilson with
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: the Jets, they would not be a threat to go
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: to the super Bowl.
- 1:51:24Speaker 10: Would have Zach Wilson playing like a kid.
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: That's a different argument. I'm just kidding, no, But but
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: that's a different argument. And that might be true. And
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: I think there's a lot to be said about these
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: quarterbacks getting in different spots and that can make a
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: big imprint on I think Bill helped Tom. I don't
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: think Brady would have been Brady just anywhere.
- 1:51:42Speaker 10: I think that that's such a big part of it
- 1:51:43Speaker 10: is it's I always say it all like I say
- 1:51:46Speaker 10: too much, but like it's nurturing, right, Like it's not
- 1:51:49Speaker 10: just all these guys got talent, like Jayden Daniels, Drake
- 1:51:52Speaker 10: may Kayla, like all the three of them have an
- 1:51:54Speaker 10: immense amount of talent.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: The question is I just feel like everybody talks about, well,
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: build the team and then put the quarterback in it.
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: And they mentioned San Francisco. They mentioned Philadelphia. No one
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: mentions the other teams that try to do it. It
- 1:52:06Speaker 4: doesn't work like the Jets. The Jets have hit on
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: a lot of a lot of picks, Sauce Gardner, He
- 1:52:13Speaker 4: any good, all pro like, they've hit on a lot
- 1:52:16Speaker 4: of their picks. They've done what the Niners did. But
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: they don't have a quarterback. So I know they're trying
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: to PLoP Aaron Rodgers in and we'll see what happens.
