- 0:04Speaker 2: Say Hester and Hester got a pat a pat.
- 0:08Speaker 3: From carrying each other to and Natty to carrying each other.
- 0:11Speaker 4: On the air, there's prop Control.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Live from the Raising Kine studio.
- 0:19Speaker 5: It's off the Bench.
- 0:48Speaker 3: All right, welcome back again, Oh TB here live from
- 0:51Speaker 3: the Raising Caines studio.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It is Tuesday, it is nine am.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So let's get to our guy, Nick Underhill, New Orleans
- 0:58Speaker 3: stuff football joins us.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Now, Nicholas, how we doing this week, sir?
- 1:02Speaker 2: Going great man?
- 1:03Speaker 1: How you guys doing doing fantastic?
- 1:04Speaker 3: I had a chance to catch up with you quickly
- 1:06Speaker 3: there in Indianapolis at the scouting combine, So didn't get
- 1:10Speaker 3: a chance to recap it with you. Yes, so very
- 1:12Speaker 3: excited for that conversation. Maybe some of your takeaways, some
- 1:15Speaker 3: initial takeaways from Indianapolis.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah, where do we want to say specific or prospect
- 1:24Speaker 2: stuff must go?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Just prospects like guys that were highly intriguing to you,
- 1:29Speaker 3: that certainly caught your attention or just like confirmed what
- 1:31Speaker 3: you already thought about him going in.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I'm incredibly disappointed that, like my he
- 1:37Speaker 2: wasn't really a sleeper, but he's like a top ten sleeper,
- 1:39Speaker 2: like Sonny Stoles was my sleeper guy, and like I
- 1:42Speaker 2: would name drop him all the time. And it's like,
- 1:43Speaker 2: I don't know, I don't know if you could take
- 1:45Speaker 2: a linebacker eight, you can take a linebacker at eight.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Like I'm disappointed that I watched my guy me too
- 1:50Speaker 2: no longer like.
- 1:51Speaker 5: To like, you know, the guy on the underground artist, Like.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I just watched him blow up and get the commercial hit.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, like I don't know if I liked this,
- 1:58Speaker 2: but man, like he's it's an incredibly exciting player, like
- 2:02Speaker 2: and I think, like in the right place, like he
- 2:04Speaker 2: could be incredibly intriguing, Like I think there's a lot
- 2:06Speaker 2: of stuff you can do with the safety background, you know,
- 2:10Speaker 2: I think I think he could be a real chess
- 2:11Speaker 2: piece for a creative defensive coordinator. And I guess the
- 2:15Speaker 2: whole league is creative now.
- 2:16Speaker 5: So it's not like, who's the guy that went to
- 2:19Speaker 5: Arizona years ago that he was kind of like positionless
- 2:23Speaker 5: and they never figured out.
- 2:24Speaker 1: How to use them like that, yeah.
- 2:28Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, like like that like they didn't really like.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I think he was a little bit ahead of his
- 2:31Speaker 2: time and they never figured it out, Like I feel
- 2:34Speaker 2: like Sonny Styles could really be like a guy that
- 2:36Speaker 2: does everything. I mean, Sadique I think put himself like
- 2:39Speaker 2: really on that that upper tier radar, Like I think
- 2:42Speaker 2: he was like mid back half of the first round.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And now you're looking at it and you're like man
- 2:46Speaker 2: pour three nine and all that size and ability like that,
- 2:49Speaker 2: that's pretty that's pretty intriguing. It's It's one of them
- 2:52Speaker 2: drafts where I feel like all the prospects that are
- 2:54Speaker 2: the most exciting or like a positions that typically aren't
- 2:58Speaker 2: traditionally valued very highly, Like you got the running back,
- 3:01Speaker 2: you got the linebacker. You know, Caleb Downs at stafety
- 3:04Speaker 2: safety's not traditionally valued. Tight end is usually like you
- 3:08Speaker 2: don't see him creep into that top ten conversation. And
- 3:10Speaker 2: I feel like all the guys this year that that
- 3:13Speaker 2: really feel like special or at those positions, you know.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I think David Bailey he kind of did out there
- 3:19Speaker 2: changes maybe that conversation a little bit too, Like obviously
- 3:23Speaker 2: he was like either be one or two, but I
- 3:25Speaker 2: think just kind of seeing some of those testing numbers
- 3:27Speaker 2: that that maybe maybe that makes somebody fall in love
- 3:30Speaker 2: with them a little bit. And then you know, obviously
- 3:33Speaker 2: the Ruben Bay stuff like he measured him where he
- 3:34Speaker 2: measured in. But interestingly enough, like everybody I talked to
- 3:38Speaker 2: about him like that, nobody cares.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Like if you like him, you like him.
- 3:41Speaker 2: If you don't, you don't. It's like you know that
- 3:44Speaker 2: there is a measurement out there, kind of sent August
- 3:46Speaker 2: quoting around and I think what came in confirmed it.
- 3:49Speaker 2: So he's just kind of kind.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Of is what he is.
- 3:52Speaker 2: And look, I talked to a few teams that have
- 3:54Speaker 2: in is the number one guy like on their their
- 3:57Speaker 2: top prospect in the draft. So I don't think that
- 3:59Speaker 2: affected in anything at all. I was wondering what it
- 4:02Speaker 2: would what it would do, and I wonder, you know,
- 4:04Speaker 2: I was kind of going into it like is this
- 4:05Speaker 2: gonna be something that defines the draft because it's a
- 4:08Speaker 2: guy that can tilt the top pay No, he was in,
- 4:11Speaker 2: and I think he's staying in, And you know, I
- 4:13Speaker 2: was wondering if he saw that. I don't think he
- 4:15Speaker 2: can stay like. I think he's just kind of I
- 4:17Speaker 2: think he's gone. Like I think people love him and
- 4:19Speaker 2: they think he's special, and I think the conversations about
- 4:22Speaker 2: moving m off the edge or not not warranted, at
- 4:26Speaker 2: least in certain places. So yeah, I mean those are
- 4:30Speaker 2: kind of the big takeaways for me.
- 4:32Speaker 4: Nick. Let's talk more about Saints prospects. You people that
- 4:37Speaker 4: you've been eyeballing for, potential draft picks, trade, whatever it is.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Is there anything you learned at the combine about these
- 4:45Speaker 4: specific anybody specific that you didn't already know beforehand. I know,
- 4:49Speaker 4: you get your ear to the ground pretty good, but
- 4:51Speaker 4: from a measurable standpoint for what they did on the field,
- 4:53Speaker 4: how they interviewed, is there anything that you learned from
- 4:56Speaker 4: a potential target for the Saints that you didn't know?
- 5:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:00Speaker 5: I think kind of what what happens now is that
- 5:02Speaker 5: it goes back and another.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Coaches, Like they do all the scouting meetings before the combine,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and then they have the combine, and then the coaches
- 5:07Speaker 2: get involved and then the board starts to start. So
- 5:10Speaker 2: everything we always say, it's like, always get the caveat
- 5:12Speaker 2: that things can change. Like, I don't think I'm gonna
- 5:14Speaker 2: feel like, yes, I know, this is exactly what they're
- 5:17Speaker 2: doing until probably probably the end of the month, early April,
- 5:19Speaker 2: Like I think that's usually where those things start coming
- 5:23Speaker 2: back a little bit more firm. But you know, I
- 5:24Speaker 2: would say right now, like as I sit here and
- 5:27Speaker 2: I and I projected, like, I don't think it's wide
- 5:30Speaker 2: receiver at eight, and I don't think it's running back
- 5:32Speaker 2: at eight. I don't think those two things are going
- 5:33Speaker 2: to happen. My guess is when this free agency start Monday,
- 5:38Speaker 2: the Campering cauriage starts, I think, Eliven, I'm guessing, you know,
- 5:44Speaker 2: maybe by Tuesday morning and of the end of the
- 5:46Speaker 2: next week, like there's probably going to be a running
- 5:48Speaker 2: back in the fold. I think that's probably how it's
- 5:50Speaker 2: going to play out. I think they want to address
- 5:53Speaker 2: that in free agency. I think they they probably feel
- 5:57Speaker 2: like forty two is a better spot for wide receiver
- 5:59Speaker 2: than eight. I think eight's gonna I think if in
- 6:02Speaker 2: a perfect world is just sitting at eight, I think
- 6:04Speaker 2: you have your choice between Baine and Downs, and I
- 6:06Speaker 2: think that's probably probably where they would want it to fall.
- 6:10Speaker 2: You know, I don't know where Jeremiah Love falls in
- 6:13Speaker 2: this mix. Like I, like I said, I think it's
- 6:14Speaker 2: I think it's running back in free agency, and if
- 6:18Speaker 2: that happens, like I think that kind of takes them
- 6:20Speaker 2: out of the out of the running there I could
- 6:21Speaker 2: be super wrong and this could shift on us, and
- 6:23Speaker 2: I might come back in a month and a feel
- 6:24Speaker 2: like I never said this, but like that's kind of
- 6:26Speaker 2: my feel for the landscape right now, you know. And
- 6:30Speaker 2: it's a live process, like you got in information. Someone
- 6:33Speaker 2: could come in and have a terrible meeting and you know,
- 6:35Speaker 2: all of a sudden they're taking off, you know, Caleb Downs,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I think I was like a little ACL thing that
- 6:41Speaker 2: that's you know, degenerative or something like people are worried
- 6:43Speaker 2: about his ACL thing. If that check the recheck comes
- 6:45Speaker 2: back super negative, that could shift the thinking. And now
- 6:48Speaker 2: all of a sudden you're looking at a wide receiver
- 6:50Speaker 2: or something and play there at eight. But if I
- 6:53Speaker 2: had the guest today, like, I think that's where the
- 6:54Speaker 2: chips kind of fall, you know. And I thought I
- 6:57Speaker 2: thought the wind was blowing forwards love earlier. Like you know,
- 7:01Speaker 2: these things kind of change it and they get more
- 7:02Speaker 2: to found as it goes on. But I think coming
- 7:04Speaker 2: out of here, that's how it looks, man, And you know,
- 7:07Speaker 2: I think it's it's faking any any guy.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think.
- 7:10Speaker 2: It's Donner Bines down put that back Downs or Bane
- 7:14Speaker 2: right now?
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you with the receiver take.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And look, as much as I want Tyler Schuck to
- 7:19Speaker 3: get a new weapon, you look at Jordan Tyson injury history,
- 7:22Speaker 3: You look at Carnel Tait, never been a one in college,
- 7:25Speaker 3: and you're gonna take him at eight. That's tough for
- 7:26Speaker 3: me to get behind. Denzel Balston's not a top ten pick.
- 7:29Speaker 3: McKay Lemon's not the receiver type that you're looking for,
- 7:32Speaker 3: and uh not great stuff coming out about his interviews
- 7:35Speaker 3: at the Combine. I love Omar Cooper Junior, but he's
- 7:38Speaker 3: more at forty two, he would not be at eight
- 7:40Speaker 3: as well.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Malchi Fields runs a four to six.
- 7:43Speaker 3: So to your point, like, I don't know that there's
- 7:46Speaker 3: a receiver at eight that I would even think about
- 7:49Speaker 3: taking right now. And so if that conversation's off the table,
- 7:52Speaker 3: you mentioned Kenyon Sadik there out of Oregon the tight end.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Is he an option at eight because he can do
- 7:58Speaker 3: so many different things for you? He blew the combine
- 8:00Speaker 3: out of the water. You're losing a couple of titands.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Maybe in the free agent process you got a couple
- 8:06Speaker 3: that are up right now.
- 8:07Speaker 1: Where do you put him on the Saints radar.
- 8:11Speaker 5: I hope he's on it.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I mean, look, I think one of the things that
- 8:14Speaker 2: can change an offense like dramatically with how you operate
- 8:17Speaker 2: is tight end. And I've always been a little bit
- 8:19Speaker 2: confused why it's an undervalue position. I guess maybe because
- 8:22Speaker 2: there aren't a lot of them that can actually change
- 8:24Speaker 2: your team.
- 8:24Speaker 5: But when you get a good.
- 8:25Speaker 2: One that's actually like one of them guys, I feel
- 8:28Speaker 2: like it changes your whole offense, ave I identity, and
- 8:30Speaker 2: it becomes the biggest cheat code in football. And I mean,
- 8:34Speaker 2: you guys play it on the side of the ball.
- 8:35Speaker 2: You can tell me if I'm way over statanists, but
- 8:38Speaker 2: just every time you see one of these guys come
- 8:40Speaker 2: in that that's actually great, I just think it changes
- 8:43Speaker 2: your team. I've sat down on Kelsey Gronk. You know,
- 8:46Speaker 2: Bowers is trying to do it a little bit. Todd Warren,
- 8:49Speaker 2: you know, I thought change their offense a little bit.
- 8:51Speaker 5: Maybe not all the way, but if you feel like
- 8:53Speaker 5: the deep can be one of those.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Those shifters, like I don't have a problem with taking
- 8:57Speaker 2: them in a ten, especially in this draft. You know,
- 9:01Speaker 2: obviously you got to have the well, I mean, maybe
- 9:04Speaker 2: you don't even have to have the putt. But like
- 9:05Speaker 2: Kelsey couldn't block for you know, anything really early in
- 9:08Speaker 2: his career. And it kind of shit to thinks Jimmy
- 9:10Speaker 2: Graham changes your offense. I mean, if you think he
- 9:13Speaker 2: can be one of those guys, I just think it
- 9:15Speaker 2: changes your offensive identity.
- 9:17Speaker 5: More than anything. And you know, I remember having.
- 9:18Speaker 2: The conversation with Sean Payton sixteen seventeen somewhere around there,
- 9:23Speaker 2: just going through, like you know, the different forms of
- 9:25Speaker 2: his offense and how it evolved and how it changed.
- 9:28Speaker 2: And he just he told me like, look, I start
- 9:31Speaker 2: with my tight end and I built my identity back
- 9:33Speaker 2: from that based on what they can do that figures
- 9:36Speaker 2: out how all the other pieces kind of come together.
- 9:38Speaker 2: And you know, that just kind of was always something
- 9:40Speaker 2: that that stuck with me. And I might I might
- 9:42Speaker 2: have a bias here because you know, I covered the
- 9:44Speaker 2: Patriots when they drafted Grock and Hernandez, and I just
- 9:48Speaker 2: watched how that transformed everything. And look, the league's going back.
- 9:52Speaker 2: You know, there there's a Dantagers, all the Kobe stuff,
- 9:54Speaker 2: like all those teams run run twelve, you know, and
- 9:57Speaker 2: you kind of get the defense and the set you want,
- 10:00Speaker 2: and then you can open them up and create mismatches
- 10:02Speaker 2: and exploits and all this stuff. Like if you went
- 10:05Speaker 2: out you got yourself a tight end, you sign a
- 10:07Speaker 2: running back and you get a good guard. I feel
- 10:10Speaker 2: like that just changes your offense like overnight, and there's
- 10:12Speaker 2: just so much stuff you can do. I would hope
- 10:15Speaker 2: he's in the next set.
- 10:16Speaker 4: And the problem is is though, like Sean Payton said that,
- 10:19Speaker 4: but I don't think he's ever drafted a tight end
- 10:21Speaker 4: for I'd have to check in the first round, like
- 10:23Speaker 4: it's and we're talking about a single digit draft pick.
- 10:27Speaker 4: I just don't know if you can do it. I
- 10:28Speaker 4: agree with everything you said. Tight ends incredibly important.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Yeah that's the problem, Like, like I think they're just
- 10:34Speaker 2: done a lot better often worth it, Like there aren't
- 10:36Speaker 2: a lot of there aren't a lot of guys that can,
- 10:38Speaker 2: you know, change your team. But I was a little
- 10:41Speaker 2: surprised that like Warren wasn't wasn't and hired a man
- 10:43Speaker 2: last year. But I guess it was a stock draft
- 10:45Speaker 2: that like positions of value, I think where it changes
- 10:47Speaker 2: a little bit this year is that your top defensive
- 10:50Speaker 2: end has thirty inch arms and people love him yes,
- 10:53Speaker 2: but in a traditional draft where you might have a
- 10:56Speaker 2: few prop stucks, I don't know if he's going there.
- 10:58Speaker 2: You usually have at least quarterbacks that are worthwhile going
- 11:01Speaker 2: in the top. The tackles aren't very great this year
- 11:04Speaker 2: that there is anyone that you're like, man, theust tackle
- 11:07Speaker 2: should be in consideration at the number one pick. So like,
- 11:09Speaker 2: I think that the big three that usually the final draft,
- 11:12Speaker 2: Like it's a little bit tough, Like there aren't a
- 11:15Speaker 2: lot of franchise changing talents in this in this draft,
- 11:18Speaker 2: so that's kind of where you know, normally i'd like, man,
- 11:20Speaker 2: no way I take a running back at eight, No way,
- 11:23Speaker 2: you know, I'd probably prefer something else today it's tight ends.
- 11:27Speaker 2: I don't know about the safety at eight, Like they're
- 11:29Speaker 2: kind of low impact players, and this year is just
- 11:32Speaker 2: kind of like, well, like you draft somebody just because
- 11:35Speaker 2: they play a position that costs a little bit more
- 11:37Speaker 2: in free agency, Like if they get there and it
- 11:39Speaker 2: staves you money, Like what's the actual advantage there, right
- 11:41Speaker 2: if they aren't actually one of those guys that changes
- 11:44Speaker 2: your team and also the same sort of place where
- 11:46Speaker 2: they have cast space going forward.
- 11:48Speaker 5: So I think it's just about getting the.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Best players right now, and then you know, three years
- 11:52Speaker 2: down the road it Shuck's actually worth fifty million dollars
- 11:55Speaker 2: a year or whatever it's going to be. At that time,
- 11:57Speaker 2: I think that's when you start going back to man,
- 12:00Speaker 2: I don't know what, Like you kind of got to
- 12:01Speaker 2: get the tackle here because you can't afford to go
- 12:03Speaker 2: out and sign one. No, you can draft a safety
- 12:06Speaker 2: at eight and go out sign your tackle or sign
- 12:08Speaker 2: your pass preshure because you don't really have any contrasts
- 12:11Speaker 2: on the books after this year. So you know, I
- 12:14Speaker 2: just think there's a lot of stuff you got to
- 12:15Speaker 2: consider in your team building.
- 12:16Speaker 5: But I agree with you. Traditionally a lot of these
- 12:19Speaker 5: conditions were going.
- 12:20Speaker 2: To be talking about this year, Like I would stop
- 12:23Speaker 2: myself in the face for being no, take a running
- 12:25Speaker 2: back over the tackle, like No, I would never say that.
- 12:27Speaker 2: But this year I think is a little bit of
- 12:30Speaker 2: an exception.
- 12:32Speaker 3: You mentioned Sunny Styles a little bit earlier, Nick, and
- 12:35Speaker 3: I mean talked about him for thirty minutes yesterday. I
- 12:38Speaker 3: had a chance to catch up with him at the combine.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Incredibly impressive on the field. Off the field started over
- 12:43Speaker 3: forty something games at Ohio State played in fifties, twenty
- 12:46Speaker 3: one years old, still with that kind of production. His
- 12:49Speaker 3: dad played in the league. His brother ran a four
- 12:51Speaker 3: to two eight the next day. There's so much to
- 12:54Speaker 3: love and played at Ohio State. Played it on three
- 12:56Speaker 3: different levels at Ohio State. Like that's a player that
- 12:59Speaker 3: I don't know if you'll be there at eight anymore.
- 13:01Speaker 3: But to the you can't take an off the ball
- 13:03Speaker 3: linebacker at eight, even if that was true, which I
- 13:06Speaker 3: think if it's a game changer, like you do it,
- 13:08Speaker 3: like if Luke Keigley was there at eight, you think
- 13:10Speaker 3: teams would take that guy now, Like yeah, Patrick Willis, Yes,
- 13:13Speaker 3: So when you have a situation that where a guy
- 13:16Speaker 3: can do so many different things. He wore the green
- 13:18Speaker 3: dot for Matt Patricia last year, which he's been pretty
- 13:20Speaker 3: decent at, you know, coordinating defenses in the National Football League. Like,
- 13:25Speaker 3: that's a different cat than we're talking about Jacob Rodriguez,
- 13:28Speaker 3: who I love. I love Jaco Rodriguez in this draft,
- 13:30Speaker 3: But that's an off the ball linebacker that you know
- 13:32Speaker 3: what he is, Sunny styles is something way different than
- 13:35Speaker 3: any other off the ball linebacker.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Oh, I agree, totally.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:40Speaker 5: No, Look the other thing too, I should have said.
- 13:42Speaker 2: It the top, Like I think people are looking at uh,
- 13:44Speaker 2: I got these rail reas now no longer are Belleries,
- 13:47Speaker 2: but ral they're looking at him as an inside linebacker two.
- 13:51Speaker 2: And now I think that conversation is interesting because like,
- 13:55Speaker 2: is Reefs actually better than a Sunny Styles?
- 13:57Speaker 1: I don't know, like that he's played eighteen games, how
- 14:00Speaker 1: do we know?
- 14:01Speaker 5: Yeah, that's the thing.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Like you're doing a lot of projecting there. And he
- 14:05Speaker 2: started out the season really hot off the edge, and
- 14:07Speaker 2: then it kind of waned a little bit as the
- 14:08Speaker 2: year went on. I think he's more of an idea
- 14:10Speaker 2: than than like an actual thing, and Sonny Styles has
- 14:15Speaker 2: a little bit more production and then he also, I
- 14:17Speaker 2: don't know, you start seeing these numbers and like the
- 14:19Speaker 2: idea of what he can do I think grows too,
- 14:22Speaker 2: so like you have production plus the upside. Man again,
- 14:27Speaker 2: weird draft, Like what I take a linebacker at eight?
- 14:29Speaker 5: No? I'm like no, But like this year, man, he's
- 14:31Speaker 5: just kind of maybe the.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Most intriguing guy there is to me. Like it soups
- 14:35Speaker 2: up version of like Matt Malano a little bit in Buffalo,
- 14:38Speaker 2: but it's like not hurt and healthy, like former safety
- 14:40Speaker 2: moved the linebacker can really play in space, you know,
- 14:45Speaker 2: and I think you could probably get him in in
- 14:47Speaker 2: you know, some explosive stuff.
- 14:49Speaker 5: You know, on third down if you wanted him to blitz.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Like.
- 14:51Speaker 5: I just think there's so much stuff he can do.
- 14:52Speaker 2: I think he can contribute like a little bit at
- 14:55Speaker 2: all three levels. And now that you've been moving around
- 14:56Speaker 2: and really really DHS piece with with some of the
- 14:59Speaker 2: stuff he can do. Have you ever, by the way,
- 15:02Speaker 2: totally off of have you ever seen Matt Patricia out
- 15:05Speaker 2: in the wild, like just in a normal setting?
- 15:07Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:08Speaker 5: Yeah, pencil and pencil in the ear like, yeah, yeah.
- 15:12Speaker 3: I interviewed him at the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
- 15:16Speaker 3: I think he had no job at the time. He
- 15:18Speaker 3: wasn't on anybody staff. It's right before he got hired
- 15:20Speaker 3: at Ohio State Pennsylvan ear.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Yeah, he's the crazy is the play sheets laminated?
- 15:26Speaker 5: So what's he right now?
- 15:29Speaker 1: You're right.
- 15:32Speaker 3: If you would have like a flair tip pin that
- 15:35Speaker 3: would write on the lemonade sheet.
- 15:37Speaker 1: True.
- 15:38Speaker 4: You know, uh, I got a question for you, and
- 15:43Speaker 4: hopefully you can squash some of these slanderous rumors that
- 15:46Speaker 4: are floating around the interwebs right now because they can't
- 15:49Speaker 4: be true. The rumor is that nobody has called the
- 15:52Speaker 4: Saints about trading for Derek Carr. But this can't be true.
- 15:56Speaker 2: What I think that's true. I think that's true. I mean,
- 15:59Speaker 2: dare it was it was. I checked it on it
- 16:02Speaker 2: up Monday, Monday, Tuesday, Monday or Tuesday, and it was
- 16:05Speaker 2: it was true as of Tuesday as a Tuesday last week,
- 16:08Speaker 2: it was true. You haven't it called yet? Interesting? Yeah?
- 16:12Speaker 2: I mean look that. Yeah. The trade value there too,
- 16:15Speaker 2: I think is really going to be I mean, it's
- 16:17Speaker 2: it's a fascinating situation because like, let's say, look, I.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Think Derek Carr is probably somebody you.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Call on maybe after that first wave a free agency
- 16:24Speaker 2: goes and it's like, well, do I actually want to
- 16:26Speaker 2: give up a draft picked.
- 16:27Speaker 5: And money or do I just want to give up
- 16:28Speaker 5: money for somebody?
- 16:29Speaker 2: Because I think if you're looking at at Derek Carr, you're.
- 16:31Speaker 5: Probably looking at you know, there's other guys that are
- 16:33Speaker 5: going to be.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Out there that are comparable and value and stature and
- 16:37Speaker 2: all that stuff. So I kind of think maybe when
- 16:39Speaker 2: the music stops, he's the guy that that's there. And
- 16:41Speaker 2: then it's it's interesting because like he's kind of in
- 16:45Speaker 2: total control of this situation. He has a no trade
- 16:47Speaker 2: clause and even effectively just coming back from from retirement,
- 16:52Speaker 2: like he can kind of, you know, dictate, hey, look
- 16:55Speaker 2: I'm not going there or not. Here's the thing though,
- 16:58Speaker 2: like and again, like this will get really really mess
- 17:00Speaker 2: and I don't think it would ever get here. Like
- 17:02Speaker 2: Derek can just say I'm coming back and they have
- 17:04Speaker 2: to you have to reinstate his contract, so he could
- 17:08Speaker 2: he could theoretically say I want to go to Minnesota.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I don't want them to pay too much, and if
- 17:14Speaker 2: you stand in my way, I'm just gonna reactate. My
- 17:16Speaker 2: contract is going to blow up your count. I don't
- 17:18Speaker 2: think that would ever happen, But like, there is that
- 17:20Speaker 2: that red button scenario, so it makes it it makes
- 17:24Speaker 2: it hard to gauge. I think, seeing how everything played
- 17:26Speaker 2: out last year, the willingness to surrender the money and
- 17:29Speaker 2: all that, Like, I don't think anything like that would
- 17:31Speaker 2: ever happen. I think that they would be in lockstep
- 17:34Speaker 2: on trying to figure something out. I don't think he'd
- 17:36Speaker 2: get ugly, but I mean, there isn't a lot of
- 17:39Speaker 2: control here on the Saints side of things, so negotiating
- 17:43Speaker 2: this is going to be fascinating. Like, I think it
- 17:45Speaker 2: probably ends up the thing where maybe you get like
- 17:48Speaker 2: a Day three pick, and if they make the playoffs,
- 17:51Speaker 2: like it improves to like a thurd or report round
- 17:53Speaker 2: pick or something like that. I don't think it's going
- 17:55Speaker 2: to be like a massive win for the Saints. I
- 17:58Speaker 2: don't think they get a lot. I don't think they're
- 18:01Speaker 2: in a position where they can really grind it out.
- 18:03Speaker 2: And if there's no market for the guy, like what's
- 18:06Speaker 2: his actual value too? So that's another thing. So I
- 18:10Speaker 2: don't think it's going to be anything that's like, man,
- 18:11Speaker 2: they traded Derek Carr and they got a third rounder, Like,
- 18:13Speaker 2: I don't think that's gonna happen. Maybe you're from nowt
- 18:16Speaker 2: Imprus or something like that, but yeah, I don't I
- 18:18Speaker 2: don't see it going like that.
- 18:19Speaker 4: Completely hypothetical question here just for fun, We're not going
- 18:22Speaker 4: to like quote you on this. You don't have to
- 18:24Speaker 4: put your whole name behind this, your whole business behind this.
- 18:27Speaker 4: But the Jets, we were talking about how like these
- 18:29Speaker 4: fun trades that the Jets could make because I think
- 18:30Speaker 4: they have six first rounders at their disposal right now.
- 18:33Speaker 4: On draft. I think it is a seven because they
- 18:35Speaker 4: get another one for the four years ahead. How many
- 18:39Speaker 4: first round draft picks would you have to give for you,
- 18:42Speaker 4: Nick Underhill to trade Tyler Shuck?
- 18:46Speaker 5: Well, I mean, like.
- 18:49Speaker 4: Everybody's got a price.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Where are the Jets hat? You know, like, where are
- 18:53Speaker 2: they picking up at the top?
- 18:55Speaker 4: Probably at the top of that, I guess.
- 18:58Speaker 2: So we're talking Arch man, I.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Mean, where do the Jets pick every single year?
- 19:04Speaker 5: So I don't know, man like that.
- 19:05Speaker 2: That's fascinating.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I have for Tyler Shock if they
- 19:09Speaker 4: offered it to you next week.
- 19:13Speaker 5: Well, I mean like we're kind of talking like a
- 19:15Speaker 5: one for one, like like you know, you get Arch
- 19:17Speaker 5: Banning or something.
- 19:18Speaker 2: Like that, and then maybe maybe like a sweet nurse
- 19:20Speaker 2: like a one in and two or something like that.
- 19:23Speaker 2: I would have seriously consider it. If I'm actually a
- 19:25Speaker 2: GM and I've seen this guy play football and I
- 19:27Speaker 2: feel like he has a chance. I don't think I
- 19:29Speaker 2: risked my job on it, But like I thought, were
- 19:31Speaker 2: if I were playing Madden and you get me a
- 19:33Speaker 2: dance and I get like I get a couple, I
- 19:36Speaker 2: get a couple of first round picks, you know, and
- 19:38Speaker 2: I can get Arch or Dante or someone like that.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I might consider it. It'd be tough, like it in actual.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Real life, it would be very It would be very hard.
- 19:47Speaker 2: To trade a quarterback that you've seen something from because
- 19:49Speaker 2: so many of them don't see something from them, and
- 19:52Speaker 2: number one picks in the draft to these guys who
- 19:54Speaker 2: always talk about, you know, there's like a sixty percent
- 19:57Speaker 2: success rate or worse. So like you would probably be
- 20:00Speaker 2: in saying the trade a guy that can actually win
- 20:01Speaker 2: you some games, can burn on three down and all
- 20:04Speaker 2: this stuff.
- 20:05Speaker 4: But it's an interesting conversation to have that. I think
- 20:08Speaker 4: somebody is going to It would be fun if somebody
- 20:10Speaker 4: had to make that decision somewhere in the NFL. Because
- 20:13Speaker 4: the Jets have so many assets, they could put a
- 20:15Speaker 4: package together that could buy almost anybody.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Yeah, they really could, you know, I don't know. Do
- 20:23Speaker 2: you guys see Aaron sleeping hopefully hopefully the quarterback stuff? Yeah?
- 20:28Speaker 3: Sleep in the combines? Not well, it's very own brand.
- 20:31Speaker 3: So anyways, Uh, Nick, you're the man. We appreciate it,

- 22:54Speaker 3: it gives you an idea of all the options that
- 22:56Speaker 3: you got when you go for dose Dosekis. You were
- 23:00Speaker 3: just talking about some compensation for one of the quarterback trades.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yeah, we were playing out this hypothetical situation during the break,
- 23:07Speaker 4: just like we just asked Nick. I asked him the
- 23:09Speaker 4: hypothetical fun question, like how many first rounders would it
- 23:12Speaker 4: take for you to trade Tyler Schuck like your what
- 23:16Speaker 4: you believe is your future at quarterback, because there is
- 23:19Speaker 4: a price for everything, and we were just kind of
- 23:23Speaker 4: looking at comps we threw around. We were talking about,
- 23:26Speaker 4: like I asked the chat, would you trade Tylers shake
- 23:28Speaker 4: for five first round picks? I think everyone was like, yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 4: I think so.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's anybody.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Boss Taylor said he would trade anybody for four first
- 23:36Speaker 4: round picks. I asked some Tom Brady, No, he'd be
- 23:40Speaker 4: the only He'd be the only one. I gave him
- 23:42Speaker 4: Tom Brady at thirty five years old too, he still
- 23:44Speaker 4: has nine years left.
- 23:45Speaker 7: Tom played until he was what forty five? So that's
- 23:47Speaker 7: the one that you wouldn't trade for four, the only person.
- 23:50Speaker 4: But I didn't. You were talking about the Stafford and
- 23:54Speaker 4: Golf trade. I thought it was more kind of like
- 23:56Speaker 4: equal at that because they were this is pretty is
- 24:00Speaker 4: a pretty juicy one. In twenty January twenty twenty one,
- 24:03Speaker 4: the Rams traded Jared Goff plus a third round pick
- 24:08Speaker 4: plus first round picks in twenty two and twenty three
- 24:12Speaker 4: to the Detroit Lions for quarterback Matthew Stafford. Yep, that's
- 24:16Speaker 4: two first rounders, a third and your quarterback.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and golf was.
- 24:22Speaker 3: He's certainly played better since he's gotten to Detroit. He
- 24:25Speaker 3: wasn't as consistent in LA, but still that's it got
- 24:27Speaker 3: to a super Bowl.
- 24:28Speaker 8: The players yet, I know they've been drafted, but who
- 24:31Speaker 8: pays I got it.
- 24:32Speaker 7: It's Jamiir Gibbs, Jamison Williams, and I can't remember the
- 24:35Speaker 7: third round pick, but the first.
- 24:37Speaker 1: The first Gibbs, the two for most of their team.
- 24:40Speaker 4: They got their quarterback that they wanted when Jared got.
- 24:43Speaker 7: Two weapons, Like I don't know who the third was,
- 24:45Speaker 7: but it was the two first were Gibbs and Jamison Williams.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Gibbs was part of the Stafford.
- 24:50Speaker 7: I mean it worked out like that was one trade
- 24:51Speaker 7: that you can look back and be like, that was
- 24:53Speaker 7: great for both of them because you was the first
- 24:55Speaker 7: twenty three and twenty four.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Twenty two and twenty three.
- 25:01Speaker 7: Yeah, Gibbs just completed what it's third year, so Yeah,
- 25:03Speaker 7: he would have been a rookie in twenty three, so
- 25:05Speaker 7: that was his draft.
- 25:08Speaker 4: So and that was a quarterback in the with Stafford
- 25:11Speaker 4: and the kind of getting close to the twilight of
- 25:13Speaker 4: his career. I know quarterbacks can play for a long
- 25:15Speaker 4: time now, but yeah, that's pretty wild, that's pretty steep.
- 25:21Speaker 4: So we're talking about this hypothetical with Tyler Shuck, a
- 25:24Speaker 4: guy that's played what eight games now, who but you
- 25:27Speaker 4: believe is your guy. But it's just a fun little hypothetical.
- 25:31Speaker 4: Just think in your brain, if you're listening to us
- 25:32Speaker 4: out there, if you're watching us on YouTube, whatever it is,
- 25:35Speaker 4: just think what would you give up? What would it
- 25:39Speaker 4: take for you to have to give up Tyler Shuck.
- 25:42Speaker 4: Not that it's e forgoten, don't do it, just but
- 25:44Speaker 4: if the Jets get crazy, they get a little squirrely
- 25:47Speaker 4: out there. We just talked about earlier in the show
- 25:49Speaker 4: about how terrible the free agent market is, how there
- 25:54Speaker 4: is not really a somebody that is deserving of like
- 25:57Speaker 4: a number two draft pick at quarterback.
- 26:02Speaker 3: What quarterback in the National Football League, though, do you
- 26:04Speaker 3: actually think is available that would be worthy of you
- 26:06Speaker 3: giving up two first round picks that would actually be
- 26:08Speaker 3: available right now.
- 26:10Speaker 4: Well, I mentioned it earlier. I think that you could
- 26:13Speaker 4: go out and make an offer to get Joe Burrow.
- 26:15Speaker 4: I think you make an offer to get Lamar Jackson.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Those two Dak Prescott.
- 26:23Speaker 4: I think Jerry. I think Jerry would do it. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 4: I did.
- 26:26Speaker 7: I think Jerry would do it. He traded Mike, took
- 26:29Speaker 7: him forever and even paid Dak. I thought he paid
- 26:31Speaker 7: him a year late, which is why he's having to
- 26:32Speaker 7: pay him so much money.
- 26:36Speaker 4: He's coming off a career year.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Everybody's looking for him, but there's not a lot out
- 26:43Speaker 3: there because you're either no way in hell, I'm giving
- 26:46Speaker 3: up my guy, Patrick Mahomes. Nobody's given like no, Justin Herbert, no, right,
- 26:53Speaker 3: you go down this Drake May No, Josh Allen no.
- 26:56Speaker 1: So like the other one.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Hjalen Hurts. They played really well with mac John. I'm
- 27:03Speaker 4: not saying Mak Jones is their answer, just saying Shannan
- 27:06Speaker 4: has that type offense that you can plug in a dude.
- 27:09Speaker 4: But the Super Bowl with Garoppolo, mm hmm.
- 27:13Speaker 8: I think there was trade party at the price is right.
- 27:16Speaker 8: That makes sense just because like you said, Shanahan can
- 27:18Speaker 8: make anybody.
- 27:19Speaker 4: That's why it makes this situation with the Jets so
- 27:21Speaker 4: intriguing because they're a dumb organization, they're crazy, and they
- 27:25Speaker 4: have more assets than that anybody. We've never seen anybody
- 27:30Speaker 4: offer like and they can do it and still have
- 27:32Speaker 4: first rounders in their back pocket. Yeah, why do you trade?
- 27:36Speaker 4: Why do you make that trade with Sauscott or mid
- 27:37Speaker 4: season to get assets? What do you use those assets for?
- 27:40Speaker 4: You can build a roster and hope that you hit
- 27:43Speaker 4: or you can.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Go because even like it got like Trevor Lawrence Wait
- 27:46Speaker 3: had a hell of a year. Yeah, so like now,
- 27:49Speaker 3: like a year ago, you probably could have now probably not.
- 27:53Speaker 3: So like you have all these assets, you have all
- 27:56Speaker 3: these things that you're disposable, Like what is realistic out there?
- 27:59Speaker 3: And that's probably the two you gave, or probably only two.
- 28:02Speaker 3: I don't I don't know that anybody else worth what
- 28:04Speaker 3: we're talking about would be available.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Let's just think about this from like an elementary standpoint.
- 28:09Speaker 4: You take five first round picks, you draft them. You
- 28:12Speaker 4: you're doing pretty good if three of them hit, so
- 28:15Speaker 4: you got two wasted. So you take those two that
- 28:18Speaker 4: are wasted that you're thinking in your head like statistically,
- 28:21Speaker 4: I'm probably gonna miss on two. Take those two, then
- 28:24Speaker 4: you add that a third one, which is somebody you
- 28:26Speaker 4: would take that would hit. Yeah, now you got three
- 28:28Speaker 4: draft picks, three first rounders. The trade you're gonna who's
- 28:32Speaker 4: giving up. Everybody's gonna be giving up somebody.
- 28:35Speaker 8: And honestly, like it depends on how hard one of
- 28:38Speaker 8: those picks hit you. Unit the rest of really don't
- 28:40Speaker 8: even matter. Like if you if you netted like a
- 28:42Speaker 8: Michael Parsons out of one of those trades, like one
- 28:44Speaker 8: of those picks is like well, I mean we end
- 28:46Speaker 8: up getting a generational pass rusher. So it's like, depending
- 28:49Speaker 8: how hard one of those picks become. It's like, well,
- 28:52Speaker 8: even though these next two guys are jags, like this
- 28:54Speaker 8: guy was an all time great, just a guy.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I call this naph as non athletic dudes.
- 29:01Speaker 8: Non athletic dudes. I mean, what is there an ADS
- 29:03Speaker 8: in an NFL.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Maybe the standard of what we're talking about, Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 29:13Speaker 3: to the NFL standard. Yeah, I love it, I guess
- 29:17Speaker 3: I mean like pretty good I do. I yeah, I
- 29:22Speaker 3: will say I agree with you there, Like even even
- 29:25Speaker 3: when my sons are like that guy's terrible, I'm like, hey, bud.
- 29:29Speaker 1: He's the one percent of the one percent. Yeah, you
- 29:31Speaker 1: should probably hold off on Sandy's terrible.
- 29:32Speaker 4: That guy's got his uh jersey hanging in high school
- 29:35Speaker 4: for sure, unless unless you're me, it's me, it's me.
- 29:40Speaker 7: He's sitting on the couch on Sunday. The guy drops
- 29:42Speaker 7: some past I'm like, you gotta cut him. You gotta
- 29:44Speaker 7: move on from this guy. Can't do Anything's terrible. Yeah,
- 29:51Speaker 7: how do you even make it real?
- 29:54Speaker 8: He's like, yeah, this guy ran for three thousand yards
- 29:56Speaker 8: and one season in high school. Is like, yeah, yeah, I.
- 29:59Speaker 4: Wish just family a lifetime of failures. Man.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I only say that to people who are card breakers
- 30:05Speaker 3: who don't give me a hit. I don't say at
- 30:07Speaker 3: the football players. I might have wished some bad things
- 30:11Speaker 3: on a couple of card breakers or too.
- 30:14Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, it's not their fault.
- 30:17Speaker 1: It is trying.
- 30:18Speaker 3: It's their fault, always their fault. All Right, we gotta
- 30:21Speaker 3: play catch up. Great stuff though by Nick Underhill. I
- 30:24Speaker 3: did get a chance to see him and Mike Triplet
- 30:26Speaker 3: in Indianapolis, and Saints are in a I think a
- 30:30Speaker 3: good spot.
- 30:31Speaker 1: They're in a good spot. Just what they need is
- 30:33Speaker 1: going to be available at some position.
- 30:35Speaker 3: I don't know where they're leaning right now, but they
- 30:37Speaker 3: can quickly audible to another person that can help them
- 30:41Speaker 3: win football games. And I think they're in the sweet
- 30:43Speaker 3: spot of having the number eight overall pick and somebody's
- 30:47Speaker 3: going to fall to them that they probably didn't expect,
- 30:49Speaker 3: and they're probably gonna select that player, and I don't
- 30:51Speaker 3: think it's gonna be an offensive player.
- 30:52Speaker 8: It's scary though. It's scary because this we're actually in
- 30:56Speaker 8: the situation where we're having expectations for the Saints to
- 30:59Speaker 8: not threw it up. Like last year, there really was
- 31:01Speaker 8: no expectations like Okay, you know, we'll see what we
- 31:03Speaker 8: got in Ridler, we'll see what we got in Shucked.
- 31:05Speaker 8: But it wasn't like like now that you even were saying,
- 31:07Speaker 8: it's about the teen of my five games, like like
- 31:09Speaker 8: they over It feels weird though, like the grand scheme,
- 31:12Speaker 8: the only want five games, but it feels like they
- 31:14Speaker 8: want a little bit more.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Yeah, they want down stretch.
- 31:16Speaker 8: Yeah, but it's just like now it's the lights are
- 31:20Speaker 8: on you, Mickey, all the eyes are back on you.
- 31:23Speaker 8: So it's like you have to know this pick. And
- 31:26Speaker 8: that's that's where we're at.
- 31:26Speaker 2: With it.
- 31:27Speaker 3: All right, We'll take a break more ot B when
- 31:29Speaker 3: we come back here live from the Raisin Kine Studio.
- 31:32Speaker 8: Off the bench, it's fox man.
- 31:35Speaker 9: I'm just saying I was talking to the girls, you know,
- 31:37Speaker 9: and we don't put enough emphasis on the ladies sometimes.
- 31:41Speaker 8: You know, I was talking to this girl.
- 31:41Speaker 9: She was talking about the music all fast in the club.
- 31:44Speaker 9: You know, she got drink water because she's thirsty. She
- 31:46Speaker 9: didn't dance like ninety two hundred songs back to back.
- 31:49Speaker 9: But ain't nobody, you know, really try to find out
- 31:52Speaker 9: what she feeling like, how she feels you know, you know, you.
- 31:54Speaker 1: Know what she told me blocked in on LSU Football
- 31:57Speaker 1: twenty four to seven. You're listening to off Oh she says.
- 32:01Speaker 6: She wants some more some U banjos a little but
- 32:07Speaker 6: definitely said this plenty around, some new.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Deficit this py guess where.
- 32:24Speaker 6: Definitely I'm sold that you drop over and y'all low
- 32:29Speaker 6: when bring some friends you cool with, I'm gonna bring
- 32:32Speaker 6: the cool will then I want you to stript the
- 32:35Speaker 6: you wis me?
- 32:36Speaker 4: All right?

- 33:44Speaker 1: All right, as I said, welcome back in OTB.
- 33:48Speaker 3: I'm sitting here and I'm looking at some of the
- 33:50Speaker 3: different combined times and some of the different things that
- 33:52Speaker 3: we saw. And I'm just sitting here looking at the
- 33:57Speaker 3: multiple LSU receivers that and incredibly well they're in India.
- 34:01Speaker 3: It's like, man, that's gonna be one of those teams
- 34:04Speaker 3: that we talk about that just underachieved. Certainly on the
- 34:07Speaker 3: offensive side of the football. The defense held their own.
- 34:09Speaker 3: The defense was on the field all the time, all
- 34:12Speaker 3: day every day. It felt like, I mean, when you
- 34:15Speaker 3: have that kind of talent and receiver and you can't
- 34:17Speaker 3: figure out how to get them the football, when you
- 34:19Speaker 3: can't have route concepts that are real route concepts, when
- 34:22Speaker 3: you don't have screens that are real screens, I get.
- 34:25Speaker 3: It's so frustrating when you have an offense that doesn't
- 34:27Speaker 3: run gap schemes at all. You just say, we can't
- 34:30Speaker 3: do it, We're not going to do it, and you
- 34:32Speaker 3: are hard headed about it. I don't know what this
- 34:36Speaker 3: team ceiling really was, but with the personnel that they have,
- 34:38Speaker 3: and I look up and I see a tight end
- 34:40Speaker 3: at the combine. I see five receivers at the combine.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I see a quarterback at the combine. It's like, I know,
- 34:45Speaker 3: there wasn't any offensive line, and it was a young
- 34:47Speaker 3: group and those guys you know, either at LSU still
- 34:50Speaker 3: have gone elsewhere. But even going back to the group
- 34:53Speaker 3: that they had where all five of them got drafted,
- 34:56Speaker 3: I think we're gonna look back at these years of
- 34:57Speaker 3: Lustrue football and say you had to get more out
- 35:00Speaker 3: of that group, and you let a lot of talent
- 35:02Speaker 3: go out the window and set you back.
- 35:04Speaker 4: Yeah, and we've given, of course, the we given the
- 35:06Speaker 4: coaching staff a hard time this year. Certainly they got
- 35:08Speaker 4: they got fired, so rightfully we gave them a hard
- 35:11Speaker 4: time because we called out the weaknesses and scheme. Now
- 35:17Speaker 4: now more information obviously always comes out, and you got
- 35:21Speaker 4: to think that it probably was a challenging situation for
- 35:23Speaker 4: them when your quarterback injures himself in the second day
- 35:27Speaker 4: of training camp and affects the way he plays, but
- 35:30Speaker 4: not affected it to the way like, Okay, he's injured,
- 35:33Speaker 4: clear doesn't need to play. Put the backup input van
- 35:35Speaker 4: Buren in. Because you can't tell me that Garrett still
- 35:38Speaker 4: didn't give you the best opportunity to win against Clemton.
- 35:40Speaker 4: He didn't give you the best opportunity to win throughout
- 35:42Speaker 4: the season. Now at some point it just got worse
- 35:44Speaker 4: and worse and worse. And the bad habits formed. But
- 35:47Speaker 4: like you got to look back at some of the
- 35:49Speaker 4: coaching and you know, we hit him hard, but how
- 35:54Speaker 4: much was it, you know, having to adjust the scheme
- 35:57Speaker 4: based on like what we didn't know at the time,
- 35:59Speaker 4: which was Garry mus was hurt and he was playing
- 36:02Speaker 4: through it and he couldn't throw the ball. Like, it's
- 36:04Speaker 4: probably pretty tough to formulate that game plan. And how
- 36:07Speaker 4: about this, if you want to have the butterfly effect
- 36:11Speaker 4: and go back and look at it. Garrett hurt getting
- 36:14Speaker 4: hurt in the second game of the season. It's probably
- 36:16Speaker 4: the only reason lang kiv is a head coach. It's true,
- 36:19Speaker 4: Brian Kelly is still probably your head coach if Garrett
- 36:21Speaker 4: Nutsmeyer does not get hurt in training camp. So it's
- 36:26Speaker 4: a butterfly effect. You can do that with every team.
- 36:28Speaker 4: You can do that with every draft pick. You can
- 36:30Speaker 4: do that with everything in sports and in life. I
- 36:32Speaker 4: get it he's looking back, but just think about that.
- 36:35Speaker 4: If it doesn't happen, we probably have a much more
- 36:37Speaker 4: successful season. And Brian Kelly, who's got this massive buyout,
- 36:41Speaker 4: there's not the public push, public and governmental push to
- 36:47Speaker 4: get your head coach fired. And that the appetite is
- 36:51Speaker 4: probably not there to pay that buyout and then of
- 36:53Speaker 4: course ay more to bring a new head coach. So
- 36:56Speaker 4: what a wild world and wild like way to think
- 36:59Speaker 4: about it. But you do have to say you can't,
- 37:05Speaker 4: just like you can't can't. We can't stand on the
- 37:07Speaker 4: on the soapbox to say they were terrible, terrible, terrible table.
- 37:09Speaker 4: It's probably pretty hard for me that game plan when
- 37:11Speaker 4: your quarterback can't really throw like you can for since
- 37:14Speaker 4: day two of training camp.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I'm with you, but I'll just.
- 37:18Speaker 3: But I am also on you that if that is
- 37:20Speaker 3: the case, you've got to come up with something. You
- 37:22Speaker 3: get paid millions of dollars to come up with something
- 37:24Speaker 3: that you can do that you can get done that
- 37:26Speaker 3: tries to mask what your injury was and not try
- 37:28Speaker 3: so you fit the square peg in the round.
- 37:30Speaker 4: They got fired. They should have been fired. Yeah, it's bad.
- 37:33Speaker 3: It's just it's frustrating covering an event like that. And
- 37:35Speaker 3: I look up and I'm like, I hear all these
- 37:37Speaker 3: NFL people Matt talk about, oh my god, Monsort delaying
- 37:40Speaker 3: and watch that guy's taping like I have called all
- 37:43Speaker 3: his games. He J Hawsey, you gotta go watch that
- 37:45Speaker 3: guy I did called his games, saw him, and then
- 37:48Speaker 3: they start talking about man save on Toms watch.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I'll not use that guy more. It's like, that's a
- 37:53Speaker 1: great question. We asked that question a lot.
- 37:55Speaker 3: It's like all these all these guys, all these scouts
- 37:58Speaker 3: that I've known for decades, are coming up to me
- 38:00Speaker 3: asking me these questions, talking about these players, and I'm like, no,
- 38:02Speaker 3: you're right, I know yep, I've seen them.
- 38:06Speaker 1: I've seen what they're capable of.
- 38:07Speaker 4: And well you can you can say that talent, that
- 38:09Speaker 4: type of talent the year before and gart and that's
- 38:11Speaker 4: aby how good he actually is and the talent he
- 38:13Speaker 4: has masked a lot of that, a lot of that
- 38:15Speaker 4: crappy game planning. Yeah, so you just couldn't mask it
- 38:19Speaker 4: this year. And so let's.
- 38:22Speaker 1: Bad coaching can make a really good player.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Terrible, very bad, or disappear, or he can make him
- 38:30Speaker 3: very average or you know, there's different.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Levels to it.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Like in football, you can just make him disappear because
- 38:34Speaker 4: you don't understand conceptual football. You don't understand how to
- 38:38Speaker 4: create a matchup advantages and get the guy the football
- 38:41Speaker 4: and open space. You get the guy the football. Well,
- 38:43Speaker 4: he I gave him twelve touches and you didn't do anything. Well, yeah,
- 38:48Speaker 4: because it sucks everywhere else.
- 38:49Speaker 8: Yeah, Uls, you literally just had a guy like that.
- 38:51Speaker 8: I mean, Jake talks about him all the time, but
- 38:52Speaker 8: Omar Spate's like.
- 38:54Speaker 1: This dude was just about to bring him up.
- 38:55Speaker 8: But are you the one that made me realize about
- 38:58Speaker 8: Omar Space? Like, this guy's starting on a round and LSU, Yeah,
- 39:02Speaker 8: like one of the best teams in the NFL. That's
- 39:05Speaker 8: their their lead scout. Yeah, he is a Green, their
- 39:08Speaker 8: lead scout.
- 39:08Speaker 3: Came up to our table found I was an LSU go, oh, man,
- 39:11Speaker 3: we love Omar Spates. I said, yeah, I did too,
- 39:13Speaker 3: and I try to tell people about how good he
- 39:14Speaker 3: was at Oregon State. Then all of a sudden, his
- 39:16Speaker 3: nickname was slow Mare Spates in bad ruge. That wasn't
- 39:19Speaker 3: because he forgot how to play football. He was a
- 39:20Speaker 3: Pack ten defensive Player of the Year. He got into
- 39:22Speaker 3: Matt House the system, and he played slow because it
- 39:24Speaker 3: didn't make sense. The math wasn't adding up on some
- 39:27Speaker 3: of the stuff that they had to try to do.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Right to your point, you said his name, I was like, hey,
- 39:32Speaker 3: the start the middle linebacker for the l a Rams
- 39:34Speaker 3: that came to l s U for a year and
- 39:36Speaker 3: number one in and out kind of the line up
- 39:38Speaker 3: a little bit because they said he couldn't play.
- 39:41Speaker 1: No, the defense was set up for failure.
- 39:44Speaker 3: And so like that's some of the things that you know,
- 39:45Speaker 3: you kind of lose sight of when you're in the moment, Like, man,
- 39:47Speaker 3: I don't know if this guy can play.
- 39:49Speaker 1: It's like, no, he wasn't put in a position to succeed.
- 39:51Speaker 1: He didn't understand the assignment because it wasn't taught to him.
- 39:54Speaker 8: Nobody succeeded on that defense, No, nobody.
- 39:56Speaker 3: They're still there's still guys in the Jay Ward's still
- 39:58Speaker 3: in the NFL. There's guys a week with you in
- 40:00Speaker 3: the league defense. So make no mistake about it. The
- 40:05Speaker 3: scheme matters as much as anything when it comes to college.
- 40:08Speaker 4: I just remember, like anybody at any level of authority,
- 40:11Speaker 4: not everybody knows what they're doing. Like at the top,
- 40:15Speaker 4: there's bad coaches in the NFL. There's really bad coaches
- 40:17Speaker 4: in college. And when you sprinkle them in and you
- 40:20Speaker 4: give the wrong guy power, you give the wrong guy
- 40:22Speaker 4: authority just because that's the next step in their career.
- 40:24Speaker 4: And like he was good at one thing doesn't mean
- 40:26Speaker 4: he's gonna be good another thing. And they're as bad
- 40:29Speaker 4: managers out there in business that are in powers positions
- 40:32Speaker 4: of power. They're like, well, yet he knows what he's doing.
- 40:34Speaker 4: He's a coach at LSU. I mean, sometimes there's some
- 40:37Speaker 4: huge idiots out there, may.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Have big dumb dumbsh fans.
- 40:41Speaker 4: I'm a dumb dumb so really good.
- 40:44Speaker 3: You said it well, a lot of people abably said that,
- 40:46Speaker 3: but I will I will tell you this. I will
- 40:49Speaker 3: tell you this LSU fans. Joe Brady walked by me.
- 40:53Speaker 3: I was on the podium, so I was. I was
- 40:55Speaker 3: on the show, and he knew I couldn't like take
- 40:57Speaker 3: my head set off.
- 40:58Speaker 4: He hit me with the go.
- 40:59Speaker 8: Tigers, see you up by real I want to sugar
- 41:03Speaker 8: his hand like thank you.
- 41:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 41:04Speaker 3: I end up talking to him later, but it's funny.
- 41:06Speaker 3: It made me laugh on air, as he's other now
- 41:09Speaker 3: head coach at the Buffalo Bills. As you all know,
- 41:11Speaker 3: all right, we'll take a break, we'll wrap up O
- 41:13Speaker 3: TV when we come back here live from the Raizing
- 41:15Speaker 3: King Studio.

- 41:29Speaker 4: listening to off the bench.
