- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today in our final holidays conversations, we are going to
- 0:36talk about being in a state of gratitude because going into the
- 0:41holidays we should all be grateful for the things that we
- 0:45have around us. But sometimes it's really hard
- 0:47when things are difficult to be grateful for them.
- 0:49Sometimes it's really hard to find things.
- 0:52That you can be grateful for when your head is stuck on the
- 0:55big problems, or especially right now, stuck on the problems
- 0:58of the world. And even though you are safe and
- 1:01you are OK and your family's OK. We get so tied up emotionally
- 1:07because we are emotional creatures, and rightfully so
- 1:10with everything that's going on in the world right now.
- 1:13It's very painful, very sad and in my view it's so.
- 1:19Unnecessary on so many levels. If we could all just get to a
- 1:23better place where we could each hear each other, but we're not
- 1:26there. And as humans, we evolve over
- 1:29time and things take time. And recognizing that and putting
- 1:36yourself into a place of. I refuse to be part of the
- 1:40problem, but I will be part of the solution from the standpoint
- 1:43of sending positive energy and positive thoughts and mindful
- 1:48thoughts to it all. And being grateful for the
- 1:51healing even before it's done is very powerful.
- 1:54So being in a state of gratitude and being in a state of
- 1:59positivity is something that doesn't just happen.
- 2:03You have to cultivate it. You have to work on it.
- 2:06It's a non-stop process every day.
- 2:09And I shoot this podcast, as you know, I shoot from the chicken
- 2:13coop because this place brings me joy.
- 2:15And I know that sounds crazy, But watching them eat oatmeal
- 2:18and bananas this morning, on this chilly morning, and digging
- 2:21and having their own little world about how you know they're
- 2:25out here, it just brings me joy. And I'm grateful for them.
- 2:28I'm grateful for their eggs. I'm grateful for their
- 2:30shenanigans. I'm grateful for how quirky they
- 2:34are. I'm grateful for how relentless
- 2:36they are getting the things that they want.
- 2:38I'm grateful. That they're funny and you name
- 2:42it. I can find something to be
- 2:44grateful for with them. It to me, if you're cultivating
- 2:49gratitude in the smallest of small things in your life, magic
- 2:53happens. So as I'm standing here and I'm
- 2:55looking down at Ella and I see all the modeled feathers in her
- 3:00and how beautiful they are, I can take a moment and say, gosh,
- 3:04that is, I'm so grateful. I noticed those because they're
- 3:07blue and Gray and purple and they've got all these
- 3:10interesting colors in her. And to me, somebody who loves
- 3:14art and loves color, I can find a big huge gratitude in the fact
- 3:19that I noticed that. I can find gratitude in the
- 3:22color of the eggs that they produce.
- 3:24I can find gratitude in the fact that they all have these quirky
- 3:27little sounds that they make. Each one of them has a different
- 3:30voice, and they're they actually do make different sounds, each
- 3:35chicken, but they have a different.
- 3:38They don't all sound the same when you know them, and that's
- 3:40interesting. Just like human voices don't all
- 3:42sound the same. Well, chicken voices don't all
- 3:44sound the same, and I find gratitude in that.
- 3:47So when you start cultivating gratitude ahead of time before
- 3:52you get into the actual days before you get into all of this,
- 3:57it, it makes your your ability to tolerate everything much
- 4:02higher because the gratitude has been built up.
- 4:04It's like a muscle in the gym. You're building it so.
- 4:08You know, somebody, if someone's complaining about or you're
- 4:12thinking, I just don't want to have to buy all these gifts.
- 4:14I don't want to have to go through all the wrapping.
- 4:16Maybe it's time to start thinking about, well, you know,
- 4:19here's the interesting thing. It won't be forever.
- 4:21I won't be able. I won't be doing this forever.
- 4:24So all of a sudden you start to feel grateful for it as soon as
- 4:28you recognize things are not forever.
- 4:30Everything is impermanent and things are always in flux.
- 4:34You start to not mind so much doing some of this.
- 4:37You start to actually feel good about the fact that I get the
- 4:41opportunity to do this. I have an opportunity to be able
- 4:45to, you know, buy Legos again or have have little little things
- 4:51that people like. They know when someone looks
- 4:53forward to your the things that you wrap up for them and they're
- 4:56stalking, you know you're not going to have to do it forever.
- 4:59So find your gratitude. Ahead of time, start thinking
- 5:04about it. It's really helpful, too, to sit
- 5:07down and say, OK, I'm going to write my points of things that I
- 5:11can focus on or things that I want to choose to focus on for
- 5:15gratitude for the season. Like I'm grateful for cooler
- 5:17weather. I'm grateful for hot chocolate
- 5:20and long pants and sweatshirts and cozy hats.
- 5:23And I'm grateful for fireplaces. I'm grateful for being able to
- 5:28watch Christmas movies and Christmas music or holiday
- 5:31music. I'm grateful for the smell of
- 5:34Turkey. Some people love to have that
- 5:36smell of Turkey in the house. For me it's like pumpkin
- 5:38muffins. So grateful for pumpkin muffins.
- 5:41I love making them. Anything like that starts to
- 5:44build you up ahead of time and sets you up to win.
- 5:47So start your gratitude list, and you can also do that for
- 5:50people. Make your list of the people
- 5:52you're grateful for and what you're grateful for in that
- 5:55person. Not just the person's name, but
- 5:57what can you be grateful for with that person?
- 6:00And I promise you, it shifts your energy.
- 6:03And then you can have that list out and read it every day until
- 6:07the end of the year. And you will have a very
- 6:09different holiday season when you start this far ahead.
- 6:13OK, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I will see you
- 6:16tomorrow. Bye.
