- 0:56Thank you. Now here are the hosts of the
- 1:00United We Scan Podcast. Welcome back, everybody.
- 1:06Episode 42. We titled it oh, what a Wrecks
- 1:11it is because we just got our evaluations back.
- 1:15Well, some people did. Some people didn't.
- 1:18They're supposed to be giving them out Saturday.
- 1:20But a lot of managers, when I'm not in on Saturday, I'm not
- 1:23going to do it. So some people will get them
- 1:26Monday, and if you have Monday off, you'll end up getting them
- 1:28on Tuesday. If you don't get them by then,
- 1:31you'll have to contact your designated union representative.
- 1:36But I've given you the title, so it's going to be a fun one.
- 1:39But let's start with Josh. How was your week?
- 1:44My week was fairly well I suppose, ended up having to
- 1:52work. My kday even though I have a
- 1:55newer sub because you know the sub had to have a day off for
- 2:00the week so I file file filed on that one.
- 2:09My birthday was Friday so been doing the birthdayish things
- 2:17through the weekend. My sister-in-law who lives right
- 2:20around the corner. Made me breakfast this morning.
- 2:23Well, brunch and dinner tonight. And a cake.
- 2:26So that was nice. That was your week, James.
- 2:32Well, aside from biting my nails and worrying about what's going
- 2:36on with the evaluations and things like that, mail volume
- 2:42was down. There's no argument about that.
- 2:47It was low volume every day. Even Monday, we didn't have our
- 2:53box holder that we have every week anymore.
- 2:56They've gotten rid of that or marriage mail.
- 2:59So that's been a hit to our counts.
- 3:01And of course package volumes are down because everybody's
- 3:06worried in this area because we're the home of the big three
- 3:11and the big three are striking, so everybody's holding their
- 3:14money. A lot of people are on strike
- 3:16pay when they're out there on the picket line, so they aren't
- 3:19making as much as they normally do on the factory line, so
- 3:22they're not ordering as much stuff as they normally do.
- 3:24Plus stuff's gotten a lot more expensive.
- 3:27So it's it's been very, very bad for us and good.
- 3:32Notice that it the economy is not stable right now.
- 3:36Other than that we the weekend was really nice.
- 3:40Ended up going to the Tigers game today, the last game of the
- 3:44season for them and the last game for Miguel Cabrera.
- 3:48So they did a nice little send off for him and everything, but
- 3:52he's not done with the Tigers. He's going to actually move to
- 3:54the front office and work for the Tigers in a front office
- 3:57capacity now that he's retired and they're hoping to put him in
- 4:01the Hall of Fame. So that's what we were doing
- 4:04today and that's why I was running behind coming here, but
- 4:07apparently I made it in time to do the podcast.
- 4:10We're still waiting on Bill to finally get here, but one of the
- 4:15things I wanted to tell everybody about me is my route.
- 4:20Mr. Positive, the whole time actually went down an hour.
- 4:24I went from a 42K to A41K and that's okay for me because my
- 4:31route has sat on that 4142 K precipice since I took it over
- 4:36and cleared out all of the extra loading that the carrier before
- 4:42me had done on it. So there were addresses on there
- 4:45that were vacant, that were still active, things like that.
- 4:49And you know, just getting everything squared away and put
- 4:56up for, you know what I needed for the route.
- 5:00So being on the Precipice 4142, I'm going to definitely have to
- 5:04go over my 4240 ones with a fine tooth comb and find if they
- 5:09messed things up. How did your route fare, Josh?
- 5:14Well, I went up another two standard hours and I look back
- 5:20at a picture I took of my 4240 back in March.
- 5:25I was at 5850. I'm sorry, 5849 standard hours.
- 5:34In May I went to 6105 and now I'm at.
- 5:40I think it was 6253. So I'm just giving them more to
- 5:50cut when they actually figure out how to do it.
- 5:54And I know that's a big question that I've been seeing the last
- 5:58couple days is when and how are they cutting routes?
- 6:04Yeah, I just had my district, my local district meeting this last
- 6:09week. And the I knew they were testing
- 6:16in a small area, I think in Alabama and the ADR said that it
- 6:23failed miserably. So they have to go back to the
- 6:27drawing board to try and figure out how to do round adjustments.
- 6:33So I know I will be able to maintain this pay for a little
- 6:37while. Bill, the bill has joined us.
- 6:44How was your week, Bill? There's an asshole in the house.
- 6:52Oh God, thank God the rain's over.
- 6:55Thank God the the anticipation for the evaluations is over.
- 7:01And thank God for management, because I feel smarter every
- 7:06time I talk to them. Typical week, lots of bundled
- 7:12flats with WSH in there with no WS S's.
- 7:16Parcels were kind of heavy this week.
- 7:20Mail was minimal. You know and and you know our
- 7:24our president-elect now tells us that well you don't understand
- 7:29that the mail volumes have decreased over the years.
- 7:31Well, well, we've delivered our routes, so we know the mail has
- 7:35decreased. But since the recs institution
- 7:40DPS isn't worth spit, so it doesn't matter if you had two
- 7:45trays or 7 trays, it really has no bearing on your true
- 7:49evaluation. I was off yesterday, so I didn't
- 7:53get my evaluation, but other carriers in our office did and
- 7:57and it, you know, according to my projections, it it went
- 8:01almost the way I thought it would.
- 8:03We only had one major increase because she went from a a a drop
- 8:09for a retirement home to an incurring 219 cluster box units.
- 8:16So she went up, but almost everybody in the office went
- 8:21went down an hour to two hours. One route did go down five
- 8:25hours, and we know why that is because they don't pay attention
- 8:31to wrecks. And yesterday was my birthday.
- 8:39Friday was Josh's. Birthday.
- 8:40So my son's is next to Saturday. So we we were out.
- 8:44This is why I'm late. We were out having a family
- 8:47birthday dinner. So thank you for your patience
- 8:51standing by. Remember it's God family, then
- 8:54your job. Nah, God family, then the then
- 8:58the craft. God family, then the craft.
- 9:02And the job is, you got your customers and the customers are
- 9:06the people we take care of. And the dogs and the kids and
- 9:11the elderly. Yeah, everybody.
- 9:14Everybody on our route. Best part of our job is out in
- 9:18the route. Yep, Yep.
- 9:23So going through our comments that we've gotten on both our
- 9:27Facebook page and other groups that we belong to that we've put
- 9:30out how people did. A lot of the comments we got
- 9:35were all over the board, but it seems like it's hit and miss on
- 9:42who went up, who went down. It doesn't look like it was a
- 9:45massive amount that went down this time compared to the first
- 9:50time, but I just wanted to go over a few comments that people
- 9:56did like this one. Still don't understand how my
- 10:01true rural route is a 44-H and the ones that are in town are 44
- 10:06K and are done before 1300. Every day they get paid 44 K
- 10:11money and work 36 H hours. I did every scan and everything
- 10:16I was supposed to, yet they gained an hour and I'm still the
- 10:19same. This damn system is a joke.
- 10:22I'm tired, frustrated, and ready to throw in the towel.
- 10:29I do feel very bad for our very rural routes, especially those
- 10:33in areas that they have to travel long distances to get to
- 10:36their mailboxes because they're the ones that got screwed over
- 10:40the most in this system. Even more than CBU routes.
- 10:45But the worst ones are the ones that have long miles and CBU
- 10:48neighborhoods. Those are the ones that got
- 10:51really shafted in this rec system.
- 10:53Do you guys agree? Oh definitely.
- 10:56Because the old adage was miles is a good thing.
- 10:59But since they put the speed matrix in there miles are no is
- 11:04no longer a good thing and you don't know whether you're
- 11:07getting zipped the zilch when it comes to a CBU unit.
- 11:11So you know and and they they still have to fight that one so
- 11:17I mean. If you're going to sit there and
- 11:20tell me that the you know they're they're going to not
- 11:23allow coverage for your CBU because the first one didn't get
- 11:27mail and the mail is dictated, you know getting mail is
- 11:31dictated by what's on the DP in your D, PS:.
- 11:34Well folks, that doesn't account for all your raw mail your miss
- 11:38throws, your miss sorts that you're getting from other
- 11:40carriers as well as the bundles that are coming in because those
- 11:44aren't accounted for it in the coverage factor for that day.
- 11:48Or any other type of item you know that you're delivering to
- 11:51the CBU's every day the same way, you know, I've seen the
- 11:54comments where people are going, you know, shouldn't I have a
- 11:57dismount for, you know, a CBU no matter how many trips I make and
- 12:01and they have none and they've got 22 CBU's.
- 12:05This system is so flawed. The only thing worse than that
- 12:08is the US government. Well, supposedly they fix the
- 12:12issue with the. If the first slut doesn't get
- 12:15mail, you don't get credit. I'm just going to leave that
- 12:20where that one right there as it is and I know they said they
- 12:25were separating the coverage factor.
- 12:29I didn't see take notice to it on my A yet but I haven't had a
- 12:33chance to really look look at it.
- 12:36But on the MIG C3 separate line three or four separate lines for
- 12:40coverage factors and all of them say 74% so.
- 12:50I don't know how they calculated that, but that's better than the
- 12:5471% I had last time. But how can that be that you're
- 12:59benchmarking again? Yep, average percentage is a
- 13:05benchmark to me. Well, it's saying that, yeah, I
- 13:12don't know. Because you can have how that
- 13:15plays into it. You can have 100% coverage one
- 13:18day, have 60% coverage the rest of the week, and you get that
- 13:2276%. Yep, you have 100% coverage on
- 13:27Monday and 60% coverage Tuesday. Through Saturday.
- 13:30You get 78%. Yep.
- 13:34So it's stupid, but that's what they wanted.
- 13:40Our next comment. Love the podcast.
- 13:44You all have been a lifesaver with the rec system.
- 13:48I'm one of those crazies that printed the manual and tried to
- 13:51learn learned more from just a couple of of your episodes 45 to
- 13:5743. First evaluation gained an hour.
- 14:00However, I didn't take the route till the 1st of the year.
- 14:06There's proof that getting the information, understanding the
- 14:11information, and learning how to do it all benefited the route.
- 14:17And if anybody had taken the time to break it down, as this
- 14:21podcast did for The Craft, a lot more people probably would have
- 14:30paid attention, especially if it came from somebody in a position
- 14:34of leadership. You guys agree?
- 14:39Oh, 100%, yeah. But if you don't carry your
- 14:43route, how would you know? If you don't work mail, how
- 14:50would you know? There's no way that anybody on
- 14:54the national board has a clue on as to how to deliver mail.
- 14:59Or you know everything else in regards to wrecks.
- 15:06I bet you if they had gone into an office that was a test office
- 15:11for a few days and I don't care if they charge that, travel back
- 15:15to the union on that, that's fine with me.
- 15:18They've gone into a test office for three days and seeing how it
- 15:21worked, then went back, talked about changing the things that
- 15:26needed to be changed and fixing the things that need to be
- 15:28fixed, waited a few months and then went out and checked again
- 15:33at another office. They probably would have had a
- 15:36better system than just sitting in an office saying, well, it's
- 15:39fine. They're telling us it's fine.
- 15:41Management's telling us it's working OK.
- 15:44Kind of like when they put out that notice about the
- 15:49unprocessed and management turned around and told them that
- 15:56they fully investigated and all data has processed and been
- 16:01recorded properly. I don't think all data has been
- 16:04recorded properly, but we'll get into that later.
- 16:12Yeah, I mean, you know, my, my, my, my first dispute on this
- 16:16whole mini mail survey for my office in particular is that we
- 16:19sign in and out our arrow keys which makes them an accountable.
- 16:23Yet we don't have credit for an accountable every day.
- 16:29I'm sorry, folks. I want to get paid for it.
- 16:32If you're making me accountable for it by, you know, having my
- 16:35signature on there. I want to get paid.
- 16:42Or once the union and the post office agree on how to
- 16:46compensate us, you'll have to scan the key out and scan it
- 16:51back in, which they already started doing in my office with
- 16:58the on the City side, which is a penny.
- 17:02Yes, because you need you have to have a supervisor.
- 17:07Barcode to quit, you know to clear you, which would be fun to
- 17:17figure out how they. How they're going to do this?
- 17:22They had a long time to figure all this stuff out, but they
- 17:26were too busy dealing with other things they wanted to focus on
- 17:29than wrecks. Yeah, like getting reelected to
- 17:33their positions, holding on to power, decertifying stewards and
- 17:40Adr's talk, helping people on social media.
- 17:44Hold it. They need decertified stewards.
- 17:48Why would they do that? They don't pay the stewards.
- 17:51That's not a financially sound move and they decertified in
- 17:55ADR. Well, are you talking about the
- 17:58one I know? No.
- 18:00Or, you know, they had another one.
- 18:02I'm talking about the one they decertified for for giving help.
- 18:07Clicking the Social Media Policy.
- 18:10Oh, OK. Yeah, they were for more focused
- 18:16on that than getting management to actually fix recs before the
- 18:21very first mini mail survey. But anyways, next comment we
- 18:28have. This is one of the issues that a
- 18:31lot of people have with our pay system that we have.
- 18:35They said love the podcast Time went up but lost one hour of pay
- 18:4142K to A45J. Now a 44 K to too high for the
- 18:5046 J. So they probably could take the
- 18:53high option, but they can't get the high J so they have to be a
- 18:57low K At 44 they're still higher than when they started.
- 19:03They started out of 42K. And if you can enjoy your days
- 19:08off, Yes, days off are a big thing, you know, Especially
- 19:14nowadays when Subs are a premium.
- 19:19So having a lot of K routes in an office does allow you to go
- 19:23into the formula situation where you could have a have two days
- 19:27off. They just won't be consecutive.
- 19:30It's a pain in the butt, but at least it gives you two days off
- 19:33in a way. Plus, you get a day off during
- 19:35the week. You can schedule doctor's
- 19:37appointments and things like that.
- 19:40Which segues right into the next topic of the Subs and training
- 19:46them and assisting them, mentoring them.
- 19:50We've gone over that on three of our episodes already, Bill.
- 19:54I know it, but it doesn't hurt. The repeat is Kristen is our
- 19:59resident RCA and she decided to enjoy herself.
- 20:04And we fully support that at a concert.
- 20:07So she gets to do that. Bill went out for his birthday.
- 20:11I went to a baseball game. Kristen's at a concert.
- 20:14It just happens. The concert interferes with
- 20:16doing the recording of the podcast.
- 20:19I'll just dock her play later. Yeah, there we go.
- 20:24All right, next comment I have. My route actually went up and I
- 20:30think I owe it totally to this podcast.
- 20:33The podcast saved me. I was out recovering from open
- 20:36heart surgery last count and I missed so much information.
- 20:40Upon returning to work I stumbled upon the podcast and it
- 20:43has educated me more than any union page or any other guide.
- 20:48I am so grateful for this podcast.
- 20:50I look forward to it Every Monday I go back and listen to
- 20:54old episodes all the other days of the week as well.
- 20:57I'm so grateful that the members take time out of their own life
- 21:00to educate us. I have suggested it to the other
- 21:03carriers in my office as well. It is truly a godsend for me.
- 21:08First and foremost, congratulations on surviving
- 21:11open heart surgery and I'm glad you're doing very well and we
- 21:15appreciate the kind comments to us.
- 21:18I'm glad that it helped your route go up.
- 21:23I just want to say I almost take offense to that.
- 21:26They are implying I have a life. But yes, I am definitely glad to
- 21:37hear that you're doing well and or we're able to come back to
- 21:42the job. Thank you for the discussion.
- 21:45Any information is better than the Nationals neglect.
- 21:49Ouch. 46 K to 41 J Now 45 K Wrecked.
- 21:57Wrecked my retirement. My state stopped supporting
- 22:01local involvement when national brought us all in line.
- 22:04I'm glad I found the podcast. Thanks.
- 22:08I think they said it first perfectly, don't you guys?
- 22:13Well, yeah. This is where, like my comment,
- 22:18the couple weeks ago said, where everybody in in every state is
- 22:22trying to align themselves to the policies of the national
- 22:25board. It doesn't make it right just
- 22:28because it's the national board. And the reason we have our
- 22:33different states in the in the territory of Puerto Rico is that
- 22:37you have your own lines. You can make up your own
- 22:39decisions as far as your constitution, your bylaws, your
- 22:43state assembly requirements. You don't have to mirror the
- 22:47national board, because, folks, they don't have it right yet
- 22:52either. Well, I understand.
- 22:57I'm gonna say I understand there are some things you want to keep
- 23:01in line, but yeah, each state and territory should be their
- 23:05own. You know, should have their own
- 23:09guidelines and they should be state specific.
- 23:15Right. Because what goes goes in
- 23:18Virginia doesn't work in Montana or Wyoming.
- 23:21Yeah, you know what? What happens in California has
- 23:24no reflection on Alaska or Hawaii.
- 23:29I can't see why not. Really.
- 23:33Then open your eyes. Oh, this one actually goes to
- 23:40the two articles that our Director of Labor Relations and
- 23:45our Director of Stewart Operations put out in August,
- 23:49National Magazine. I started at 42 H, went down to
- 23:5638 H and with this evaluation. With this evaluation I am a 41 H
- 24:04Love the podcast. It is extremely helpful and
- 24:07informative. Please keep up the great content
- 24:09and thank you. Thank you all for the
- 24:11encouragement and support. That's the exact point I was
- 24:16trying to make when I made my comments about this.
- 24:19When we went over the last evaluation in the episode, what
- 24:27was it called? Was that aftermath or the other
- 24:31one? The aftermath?
- 24:32The aftermath. When we break down the 4241 A
- 24:35for everyone and we talk about what happened, this is exactly
- 24:39what I was talking about. These routes that dropped into
- 24:42excise territory went so low because of the fact that
- 24:48management was pushing the six scans and because they listened
- 24:53to the aftermath in our episode carrier discussion activity
- 24:59scans, Yeah, And they listened to those two episodes, big
- 25:02episodes that we had about the mini mail survey, and then the
- 25:07activity scans you're supposed to be doing.
- 25:10These carriers have turned around and moved their routes
- 25:13into a position that they're no longer going to be excised
- 25:18because 40H is the lowest you can go as a regular route and
- 25:22not have the risk of being excised.
- 25:26So being a 41 H benefits the carriers because they no longer
- 25:30are in the excise category. Plus with that change they're
- 25:35going up three hours. That route could go up another
- 25:39two as we get a full 52 weeks of actual inputs in there.
- 25:46That's what I was talking about. That's my positivity right
- 25:48there. I'm positive.
- 25:53I want whatever you smoke. Well, we we, we had a difference
- 26:01of opinions in me and you in regards to how this evaluation
- 26:05would go and I don't want to toot my own horn, but it does
- 26:09sound like people stayed in that mid range that I said that
- 26:12there's going to be marginal change.
- 26:15And my office that, you know, was a perfect example of it.
- 26:18I had the one outlier of, you know, throwing out for adding on
- 26:22219 CBU units and the other outlier of somebody dropping
- 26:27from A46K to A43J because of the fact that he just doesn't put
- 26:33the effort into it. And and then, you know, wants to
- 26:36complain to me about it and say, well, I don't understand.
- 26:39I said, well, you know, it's because we don't see you at the
- 26:41meetings. We don't see you, you know, on
- 26:45any of the Facebook pages. We don't see you as a
- 26:48participant in the United. We scan podcasts.
- 26:52You know, we've we've got an open book where you can post
- 26:54questions, everything. I said, I've never seen your
- 26:56name up there and the only time this guy ever, ever approaches
- 27:01me is when he has a problem. Not looking for information has
- 27:09a problem. And by that time.
- 27:13The information he he could have had would have avoided the
- 27:17problem. And though, although I'm no
- 27:22longer a local steward, I still assess that all the carriers in
- 27:26my office, that's this what you do as a union member.
- 27:31That's what you do as a craft member, period.
- 27:34That's what we're supposed to do.
- 27:37Well this is one of the ones that hurts though.
- 27:40My route went up to 6808 hours and my wife went up to 72.
- 27:48No help because of no Subs. Feeling forgotten by the Union?
- 27:55Remember the old? Remember the old saying you
- 27:58don't get paid for everything you do?
- 28:00And then they created wrecks and now you're supposed to get paid
- 28:03for everything that you do. Explain to me how they're going
- 28:06to get paid for what they do. Between the two of them, they
- 28:12have a whole other route. Yeah, and and don't give me the
- 28:15horseshit about FSLA because of the fact that that does that.
- 28:19That argument doesn't hold water.
- 28:23And. They're probably working their
- 28:29hours too. Yeah.
- 28:33And I would say the well, what's your favorite thing, Bill?
- 28:39File file file. Because if they can't give you
- 28:43auxiliary assistance, they should be giving you time and
- 28:461/2 for anything over the 48 hours in five days.
- 28:53We're 54 hours over 6. I do have a correction to make.
- 28:58I was just informed of exercising occurs at 35 or less
- 29:04hours, not 39 like I said, but once you go below 40 hours,
- 29:09you're into guaranteed pay. So if you go under, you go to 39
- 29:16H you go into guaranteed 40 hour pay.
- 29:19So anything below 30? 9 Next I believe it's until the
- 29:24next guarantee period. They have two years, didn't
- 29:30guarantee for the contract, but it's each each guarantee year
- 29:36they have to reevaluate it. And if you don't know what?
- 29:41Guaranteed pay is Ladies and gentlemen, look to the lower
- 29:44right hand corner at the smaller number.
- 29:47That's what the guaranteed pay is on your 4241 A.
- 29:50Yep, and that was discussed in the Aftermath episode All the
- 29:57boxes on the 4241 A from the first mini mail survey.
- 30:02Now there are a couple new boxes on this one, so we may have to
- 30:06do another episode on that, but I haven't gotten my 4241 A yet
- 30:10because I had Saturday off so. Oh, you did it tomorrow.
- 30:16I know, I know. So where do carriers go from
- 30:22here, guys? What's What's the next step that
- 30:25they have to do? Any mail survey dispute?
- 30:32Yep, I'm going to say review your 4241.
- 30:37A. And if you got the M, compare
- 30:38them. If something doesn't match up,
- 30:41dispute it. If you're not seeing something
- 30:44on there at all that you know you should have added credit
- 30:46for, dispute it. We were, you know, like Kristen
- 30:54was saying that the one route she's a sub for.
- 30:58At her at her office, they he disputed the mileage and he got
- 31:03it and they backdated it to the beginning of the new evaluation.
- 31:09So unfortunately it came through just in time for the new
- 31:17evaluations to come through. But you want to dispute it.
- 31:23Make sure you're being vigilant. In doing your scans still
- 31:32because it is 52 weeks of data, so some of these that recoup
- 31:39sometime from the April survey to now still have 26 weeks of
- 31:48data where they weren't doing stuff, so they potentially might
- 31:53will go up next. April, May timeframe, if they
- 32:00continue being vigilant and diligent and doing the scan, you
- 32:05know what stands they're able to correct, get credit for.
- 32:13Well, here's an interesting question.
- 32:14How do you dispute the speed matrix off your whole route?
- 32:19With a measuring wheel, measure the distance between every stop
- 32:28sign, every yield sign, every you turn you make make it every
- 32:34mailbox. And then you have to calculate
- 32:36out what your speed matrix is on that measurement using the speed
- 32:41matrix table in the 99 page guide.
- 32:45Well, plus you have to put your traffic control points in there.
- 32:48So I said every stop sign, yeah. Yeah, plus plus you have to have
- 32:52your speed limits in there too, because of the fact that.
- 32:56Routes such as mine, over 60% of my route is 25 mile an hour
- 33:00speed limit, which is favorable for me versus the people with
- 33:07the mileage. Routes.
- 33:09Who are getting hit, what, 48 miles an hour?
- 33:12Well, it's the speed of the road doesn't matter in Rex.
- 33:19Excuse me, the speed of the road does not matter to Rex.
- 33:26It is the start and stop point. It is.
- 33:31The start and stop point for each stretch only measured on
- 33:36your LTM, your map where you watch the little car run along.
- 33:41It measured each distance between your traffic control
- 33:43points from your startup post office until you end at the post
- 33:47office. Every traffic control point,
- 33:49every mailbox adjusted your speed matrix.
- 33:55Every turn you made actually adjust your speed matrix.
- 33:58But if you have over 5030 feet of travel distance, you better
- 34:05be averaging 48 miles an hour on that road.
- 34:11And if you're not, you're losing money.
- 34:16Now I do know for a fact that you can actually get a Google
- 34:22Map API that actually downloads the road speed limits to do
- 34:29mapping programs like that, but would they pay for that or
- 34:33implement something like that? Hell no, it doesn't benefit
- 34:36management. It doesn't benefit management,
- 34:40especially if you're coming out of a SD&C that they want to push
- 34:43all these carriers into that have to travel 20 miles to their
- 34:46route on 25 and 35 mile an hour roads with long distances
- 34:51between stop signs. That's going to be a benefit
- 34:56majorly to the post office. So you may have a 40H route, but
- 35:02under the original count speed matrix you'd actually be a 48K.
- 35:10There's a lot of problems with the speed matrix, and one of
- 35:13them is this the minimum speed you have to maintain in order to
- 35:19break even on your route. But James, realistically what?
- 35:28Let's pretend that they would invest in such a program for all
- 35:36these true rural routes with this deadhead time from boxing,
- 35:43you know, one to two miles potentially between each box.
- 35:50Would that? Even make a difference or that
- 35:54much of a difference. OK, so say you have a route that
- 36:00you're on a very rural Rd. It's a 55 mile an hour two lane
- 36:04blacktop Rd. We'll use that as an example.
- 36:07The 55 mile an hour speed limit would benefit the post office in
- 36:12Rex. What would hurt them is all
- 36:15these carriers leaving out of SD and C's because all those roads
- 36:21are 2535 miles an hour. It would also benefit even more
- 36:27the carriers who work within city limits and may have to
- 36:30travel a mile and a half two miles to the route.
- 36:33Case in point myself, it's 3 1/2 miles from the office to the
- 36:38first mailbox on my route and 2 1/2 miles from my last mailbox
- 36:42back to the office. That would benefit me a little
- 36:46bit, but I've got 50 mile an hour roads all the way to my
- 36:50first mailbox so I can make the speed matrix.
- 36:56Now Kristen, her route has 25 and 35 mile an hour stretches in
- 37:04her area that she's losing money on.
- 37:07On those routes. She's talking about the 93 mile
- 37:10route. That's the one that got hurt a
- 37:12lot by the speed matrix. And if they had done the speed
- 37:16with the road speed limits, it would have been fair, honest and
- 37:23accurate for the carriers. And that's what we wanted with
- 37:26the system was to be fair and honest and accurate.
- 37:31Right. Well, that's, you know, I'm, you
- 37:36know, we're preaching to the same choir.
- 37:39I'm just saying if they went by the what the posted speed limit
- 37:43was calculated to, it's this many.
- 37:47This much time for this much distance, would it make that
- 37:55much more of a difference, I think in the grand scheme of
- 38:02things For long rural routes, maybe, maybe not, you know,
- 38:08depending on road, the roads themselves.
- 38:12But then you also have to think about areas like Michigan or
- 38:16North Dakota. Will you get a crap ton of snow?
- 38:21You're not going to be doing 48 miles an hour on snow covered
- 38:26roads if you are. If you are, you better be a very
- 38:31good driver and you better have very good snow tires on your
- 38:34vehicle. I guarantee you I'm not doing 48
- 38:37miles an hour in an LLV in the snow.
- 38:41Yeah, you're lucky if you're doing 4.8 miles.
- 38:45Well, my my LLV has gotten through a lot of snow that I
- 38:49didn't think it would. I will give it that.
- 38:54It's it gets through a lot more snow than a mattress I'll get.
- 38:58I'll also say that just a dusting makes the mattress sit
- 39:01in one spot with the traction control it has.
- 39:04Well, this is true. We've talked about that before.
- 39:07Yep, the the mattress. I think the mattress treats snow
- 39:13like it's living in Texas. If it snows a little bit, Nope,
- 39:17I'm not going out. Yep.
- 39:21No offense, Texas people, but you know it's true.
- 39:26And and we got a comment about gravel roads.
- 39:28How many people have roads like that where they're traveling the
- 39:33better part of their route on beat up dirt and gravel roads in
- 39:37the truly, truly rural areas of America?
- 39:40How the hell does that affect them exactly?
- 39:44You know, you have my route, you have my route.
- 39:46For example, half my route is, is there are roads, and 3/4 of
- 39:50those are private roads that don't get maintained by the
- 39:53county. And even the ones that get
- 39:55maintained by the county is once every two or three months
- 39:58between gradings. And in that time frame they get
- 40:01all sorts of messed up. I've gone down the road sideways
- 40:05from the bouncing in my LV. So it's it's yeah, I think,
- 40:11honestly. The driving part should be.
- 40:14The driving part should literally be calculated by how
- 40:17long it takes you to go between box and box.
- 40:20It shouldn't be a benchmark average that some engineer in an
- 40:26office cooked up. Well, that's the problem.
- 40:30Yeah, the same way with our national board.
- 40:32These engineers didn't go out and drive these routes.
- 40:36They didn't take a sampling. They did the test offices, but
- 40:39they didn't go to. Every example of offices, which
- 40:43there's probably at least maybe 100 to 150 different types of
- 40:47routes in the rule carrier craft, yeah.
- 40:55Yeah, you've got people like Josh and Josh.
- 40:57How many miles do you do a day? Josh, 20 OK, how many?
- 41:02How many units do you serve? 900 and. 80 something Yeah, I
- 41:12have 1000. OK, now now go find a route that
- 41:17matches his or or or match that one route where they they drive
- 41:21a total of 3 miles. I have 1100 boxes.
- 41:26Yeah, or they're driving 147 miles and they're servicing 349
- 41:31boxes. Each route is is specific unto
- 41:35itself. That's why invention working
- 41:37can't, cannot be allowed. To be enforced because of the
- 41:41fact that no two routes are exactly the same.
- 41:45Yep, I was talking to on Facebook and on a post with a
- 41:50girl who has 1400 addresses on her route.
- 41:58I hate to see that at Christmas. Yeah, I have one in my office
- 42:03with 1368. But yeah, you were talking about
- 42:07like with. Gravel roads.
- 42:09I remember when I was in high school me and some buddies took
- 42:12a road trip and we ended up staying at this one town.
- 42:17The main road was the one with the least amount of rocks in it.
- 42:21All right, this question was asked in our in our stage chat.
- 42:26I have a question. I've been off for both mail
- 42:29counts due to having surgery. If I am available to come back
- 42:33to my route, do I have to wait until the next mail count to get
- 42:37it changed? If I get reading this right,
- 42:41you're asking if you go back to your route and they haven't done
- 42:45any of the scams, done any of the stuff that they're supposed
- 42:47to be doing, or you find things that are wrong.
- 42:50The minute you recognize a problem, you can grieve it,
- 42:54dispute it, things like that, depending on which part of it
- 42:58you're dealing with. The dispute process is supposed
- 43:01to be turned in at a specific date so they can go over the
- 43:04disputes and fix everything. But with you being out on
- 43:08injury, ever having a surgery, the time you have to notice is
- 43:16the first time you're back to work, right Bill?
- 43:19Correct and and in that time you can sit down during specific
- 43:24times of the month to go over your DPM and your LPM.
- 43:28And question vacant boxes, stops, dismounts, the the
- 43:33footage for dismount collection, box unit, parcel lockers and
- 43:37such. If you have any hardships and
- 43:40dismounts whatsoever, all those things can be contested at that
- 43:44time and put into your VPM and your LTMS so that it can be
- 43:50corrected. It may take them some time to
- 43:54get it corrected. But they should be able to do it
- 43:56within a two to four week period and that's about the only time
- 44:00you're going to get any type of adjustment there.
- 44:05Otherwise all the other factors including your scans and there
- 44:08and all are going to have to be calculated with the next mini
- 44:12mail survey and the previous 52 weeks data collected.
- 44:18I was just going to say now if you're talking about just the
- 44:21two week mini survey. Then that the only thing that
- 44:28they were counting during that was raw mail which is less than
- 44:345% of the evaluation where the bill and James were talking
- 44:38about if you were out for an extended period and it was
- 44:42whoever they had available to run the route that day to get
- 44:47you know to correct the things. And that's when you sit down
- 44:51with a facilitator to make sure that your your mapping is done
- 44:55correctly. That's the only time you're
- 44:58going to make any change. And you know, on top of learning
- 45:01your scans and everything else until the next mini mail survey,
- 45:05and I don't know why everybody keeps changing, Percentage is 6%
- 45:08according to the post office, but 6% according to the 99 page
- 45:14guide as well. Yeah.
- 45:16So the the thing of it is that. You're going to make minimal
- 45:20changes, you know, depending on how bad your your route's been
- 45:24abused since since you've been out with your surgery.
- 45:28But the thing of it is, is that when it comes to the actual data
- 45:32collection it it'll have to wait until the next mini mail survey
- 45:37and then that will be average with the previous 52 weeks data
- 45:40collected including the time that you were off.
- 45:47Another question we got. I would say you are right Bill.
- 45:51They say it is 6 percent. 1% of that is your walking distances
- 45:55in the office, which leaves the 5% left.
- 46:02So the next question we have is if we deliver packages to doors
- 46:06where they are over the one mile round trip, what should we be
- 46:09scanning to make sure we are getting credit?
- 46:12If we are scanning left at door or with customers, does that
- 46:15give the credit for the extra time and mileage it takes to get
- 46:18there? There's two things you get when
- 46:22you do a trick, the door delivery, garage, delivery left
- 46:27with customer and so on and that is out of route miles and out of
- 46:32route feet. The out of route miles goes from
- 46:36your mail stop to your park point in a straight line.
- 46:41Your out of route feet goes from your park point to your door and
- 46:46back in a straight line. Those two will show up on your
- 46:504241 M You'll find them on there as 00 R miles and 00 R feet.
- 46:59That's where you'll find those on your evaluations that you got
- 47:03back. And that's where Bill Bill
- 47:08cusses out. The one particular customer has
- 47:10a windy sidewalk all the way up to their front door, which adds
- 47:15another, you know, 60 feet of travel.
- 47:18Instead of this straight line to the damn door.
- 47:22Very nice, very nice landscaping.
- 47:25But you know, it just adds time to my ass.
- 47:32And don't edit that. I'm going to say if it's over a
- 47:38mile round trip, which means it's over 1/2 mile one way you
- 47:43get credit for the skin on the 3849.
- 47:48Left notice due to the distance for them to come pick it up.
- 47:53That's just me. Yeah, but how many, how many
- 47:57carriers do that Josh, don't. Don't we all all feel the
- 48:01obligation to deliver? The product I also I think my
- 48:07largest distance is 200 feet, so I can't say I probably would do
- 48:15it. If I wasn't on a route that had
- 48:19that but me personally, I do it unless the the driveway was
- 48:26covered in snow. OK, you your name is Bill.
- 48:32You have a purple mattress in the back of your truck.
- 48:35It's, you know, 8 foot long by 8 foot wide.
- 48:40It's probably over the the damn 70 pounds.
- 48:44And you take it out and the driveway is five, five, 6/10 of
- 48:50a mile away from the mailbox. Now does Bill want to sit there
- 48:55and shuffle that box around all day long while trying to work
- 48:58the rest of his mail and then turn around and leave at 3849,
- 49:02take it out and bring it back in the office where there is no
- 49:05storage for it? Or does Bill want to be customer
- 49:08service oriented and drop it off at the customer's house and eat
- 49:12this the 10th of a mile? I think Bill would deliver it
- 49:17just because he's that kind of a person.
- 49:19Damn straight. Well, that's what I said.
- 49:22If I if I had that, I probably would be delivering it, you
- 49:25know, but it's the but it's mapping, it's mapping.
- 49:33So wherever you put the points, it's going to give you that
- 49:36distance, even if it's over a half a mile.
- 49:41Yes, mapping is the most important aspect of this member.
- 49:45Yeah, mapping is the most important aspect to any office
- 49:48that hasn't mapped should be grieving with their district
- 49:50representative. That's according to the union
- 49:53itself. Another question.
- 49:57Boxes are on a major highway pull off to service.
- 50:01Have to wait to get back on said road to go to next box.
- 50:04Should we be using yield? It's not an actual stop sign,
- 50:07but I can't continue. If traffic doesn't allow another
- 50:12part of the speed matrix. That's the problem.
- 50:15Traffic is not a factor. Construction is not a factor.
- 50:22Any type of slowdown is not a factor, right guys?
- 50:28You don't get paid for everything you do.
- 50:33They tried to sell it to us, but they still haven't worked it
- 50:36out. So the biggest thing that's
- 50:39coming up now is they're going to open up the ability to
- 50:43dispute. And we talked about disputes in
- 50:47the last episode. We've talked about disputes
- 50:50multiple times and what's going on with them.
- 50:54And the fact that a lot of people haven't gotten back
- 50:55disputes from the first mini mail survey, which is a shame on
- 51:01our Director of Labor relations. She should have been in there
- 51:05making them get these disputes done.
- 51:11Should have been pushing management to get this done.
- 51:18When you have carriers whose money their pay depends on these
- 51:25evaluations, you should be doing everything in your power to get
- 51:30these disputes resolved in a positive manner.
- 51:33For these carriers, not telling them the information has been
- 51:37available since April of 2022, Now telling them that we'll have
- 51:43management do the mapping. We'll have management correct
- 51:46this, Pay the carriers, make them pay a set amount for each
- 51:57violation they've done. Shouldn't be just saying, oh,
- 52:05just get it done. Oh, just do it.
- 52:09They didn't do it. They're already in violation.
- 52:14That's like somebody driving drunk.
- 52:18They go into court and the judge goes, just don't do it again.
- 52:24We'll not put this on your record.
- 52:26Just don't do it again. Well, guess what?
- 52:31You have now just sent them back out.
- 52:33They're now going to drink and drive again because there was no
- 52:36punishment for that. But but but but yeah I I didn't
- 52:42remember because I was drunk in court so so I I have plausible
- 52:49not not not Nile ability. Sounds like you went through
- 52:59this once before. I don't remember.
- 53:06All right, people are getting a little carried away with my
- 53:09thongs here in the. Chat.
- 53:14You're the one that keeps bringing it up.
- 53:19You know the biggest things that are going to happen now is
- 53:22you've got to dispute. You've got to keep on it.
- 53:27You've got to find all the problems with your 4241 A and
- 53:31your 4241 M management is not required to give you the 4241 M
- 53:37You have to ask for it. Some good managers will print it
- 53:40out for you anyway. But yeah, I have.
- 53:44If you ask, yeah. If you ask for it and they don't
- 53:47give it to you, get with your designated junior
- 53:50representative, because they're supposed to give them to you
- 53:54upon request. Yeah, I actually have mine when
- 54:00I got off the route yesterday. Both the A and the M are on my
- 54:05case, so. Well, I I'm waiting with a bated
- 54:13breath in regards to what I'm going to discover tomorrow, what
- 54:16my route is, because I only had seven hours to play with to stay
- 54:20at 48 K I'm a 63.34 hour route now.
- 54:31Or was. We'll see.
- 54:33Lucky. Lucky.
- 54:38I'm waiting for the back pay. Yeah.
- 54:43So that brings up another point that I wanted to come up with
- 54:46and this is what I want to close the show on, is this change,
- 54:52especially a lot of carriers going up right now is going to
- 54:56reinvigorate upper management to get on lower management.
- 55:01The push benchmarking and harassing carriers, it's going
- 55:07to happen. You guys know it as well as I do
- 55:14that management is pushing for benchmarking big time because
- 55:18they've seen how low your routes can be without any of those
- 55:22scans. The ones that went up are the
- 55:26ones that are going to be getting a lot more talking to
- 55:28ones that went down probably aren't as much, but we cannot
- 55:34let them harass you. What do we do when they start
- 55:39harassing us, Bill? Oh, we file, file, file.
- 55:43And then we go for the EEO. You know the the biggest thing
- 55:51is management wants the benchmarking because it benefits
- 55:57them to keep the numbers down because it looks good on a
- 56:03spreadsheet. It looks all pretty when none of
- 56:06the numbers are red. Well, I want to add something in
- 56:14here before we get the closing here and I found this off of
- 56:18Facebook, it's all and it has the United States Postal Service
- 56:22official letterhead and it's addressed to the rule carriers
- 56:26and what it says is that because they management.
- 56:32Are being pulled on the carpet for all their scans and entries
- 56:36that effective as of tomorrow, Monday the 2nd.
- 56:40All second trips must be documented.
- 56:44The date of delivery, the addresses and the reason for the
- 56:47additional trips must be documented and available for
- 56:50revision upon request. If you need a pen or paper, see
- 56:54management. All parcels picked up on the
- 56:58route must be verified by management prior.
- 57:02To being placed in the outgoing mail.
- 57:04If management is not available, have a witness review the
- 57:07parcels. Count the number of parcels at
- 57:11picked up. Write this in the same piece of
- 57:14paper with the date with the initials of management or the
- 57:17witness. There's a tracking number or
- 57:20two. It is to be added to the sheet
- 57:24where that would be helpful too if the parcels picked up.
- 57:30Are for my post office pickup request form must be completed.
- 57:35I don't know how you completed except for on the scanner in in
- 57:38in its entirety and return to management.
- 57:41Nothing more needs to be done. Isn't that nice of them?
- 57:45Occasionally a wrong button could be hit or an enter could
- 57:49be made. Well, if you hit the wrong
- 57:51button that would be an error, correct folks?
- 57:54So this is normal and shouldn't be for common, Shouldn't be a
- 57:58common occurrence. Well, if it's normal, how could
- 58:02it not be a common occurrence? Please document these
- 58:07occurrences with this data and brief description of your alert.
- 58:15By the way, please be honest with your entries, hold yourself
- 58:18accountable. If you're having any questions
- 58:21or anything isn't completely clear, please ask management
- 58:25now. I hate to tell you folks, I
- 58:28responded to this both and it started out with piss my ass.
- 58:34We're not required to do this. We're not getting paid to do
- 58:37this. This is another type of
- 58:39micromanaging and harassment in regards to Metro Marketing and
- 58:44keeping all our numbers down. If they want this type of, you
- 58:48know, clarity, let them ride with you every damn day.
- 58:54Get in the back of the truck and see what I do every damn day.
- 58:58And then after we're done that for a week, then I'm going to
- 59:00file harassment charges. This has got to stop.
- 59:07I I got called on the carpet last week because I had 18
- 59:10unscanned parcels in one day. Well, I I was delivering the
- 59:15Restoration Hardware catalogs which were ten 16th of an inch
- 59:21thick and wouldn't fit into my slots with the mail.
- 59:26Therefore they were unscanned parcels at the carrier's
- 59:29discretion. 2 days later I asked to see my PTR report to make
- 59:34sure they were still on there. They were on there because of
- 59:38the fact that I had the information available and I
- 59:40challenged them in regards to why they would or would not be
- 59:43classified as an unscanned parcel.
- 59:46If you don't check up on these things folks, they will
- 59:50disappear. Same way the gentleman commented
- 59:53that you know my keys, being accountable is not. 100 other
- 59:56items that they, you know, say that they've already collected.
- 59:59No, I want to see where that specifically is.
- 1:00:03Challenge. Challenge them on everything and
- 1:00:07then file. This bullshit has got to stop,
- 1:00:13and it stops when you stand up for yourself.
- 1:00:18And that's proof that management is benchmarking, harassing and
- 1:00:25finding ways to micromanage every single carrier under their
- 1:00:29purview. And the problem with that is
- 1:00:34that's not part of our end of shift duties.
- 1:00:37That's not part of our second trip duties.
- 1:00:41Second trip duties. You only get paid load time and
- 1:00:47three minutes per mile. You don't get paid time to to
- 1:00:51write down the addresses of every parcel you're delivering
- 1:00:54on your second trip. You don't get paid to do
- 1:00:59anything else other than pick up those parcels, load them in your
- 1:01:02truck and go deliver them. Now the returning parcel part,
- 1:01:08that's fine. That's into shift duties.
- 1:01:10That's part of that into shift time.
- 1:01:12That's straight time on your evaluation.
- 1:01:14It's benefiting you. Sure.
- 1:01:17Take your time. Make sure you write down every
- 1:01:19address and tracking number on each of these parcels.
- 1:01:21Mr. Manager. Oh, please take your time.
- 1:01:24I'll wait. No worries.
- 1:01:26You know, we can stand here for 45 minutes while you go through
- 1:01:29the 37 parcels that I have and write down every single tracking
- 1:01:32number. That's fine.
- 1:01:34I'll stand right here and watch you.
- 1:01:35It's not my job to write them down.
- 1:01:39Nope, it's your job. You want these numbers?
- 1:01:43You write them down. You want this information, you
- 1:01:47write it down. Hey, if you want the addresses
- 1:01:50of the parcels I run for second trip, guess what?
- 1:01:53They're going to be sitting by my case while I'm delivering my
- 1:01:55route. Go on over there and write down
- 1:01:57the addresses while I'm out of the office.
- 1:02:01I'm not writing them down for you.
- 1:02:03I don't get paid to do that. I want a fair wage for Fair
- 1:02:08Work. Could you imagine on a white
- 1:02:12day? The girl next to me or pick up
- 1:02:16on a light day is a little over 100 pieces.
- 1:02:26Well, I want to be pissed off quick.
- 1:02:29I want them to be there today, And this is Tuttle.
- 1:02:31He has a slip in her mailbox saying pick up packages at the
- 1:02:35mailbox or at the garage. And I back up and I put in five
- 1:02:39large containers. I take them back and there's
- 1:02:42502. USPS packages in there and I'm
- 1:02:48going to stand there going. I'm going to write these down
- 1:02:51now. Your manager is going to write
- 1:02:55them down, not you. Oh no, no.
- 1:02:57I'm a much slower writer. Oh, OK.
- 1:03:02I use crayon do. You get the sharpener on the
- 1:03:08side of your box. Damn straight.
- 1:03:10I got the 64 color box. Nice.
- 1:03:14You can do them in rainbow colors.
- 1:03:16Grab one, write the first number, grab a next one, write
- 1:03:19the next number. Well, no.
- 1:03:20I'm going to color code it for the different cities.
- 1:03:25There you go. See, I'm thoughtful.
- 1:03:29Yeah, I think last year at Christmas time they had to send
- 1:03:34a two ton out to do the one pickup.
- 1:03:40By the way, this this was out of.
- 1:03:43Campton Post Office. Wherever Campton is, don't let
- 1:03:48management bully you. Nope.
- 1:03:51Don't let them tell you that you have to do things unless they
- 1:03:55give it to you in writing, round dated and signed with their
- 1:03:58name. Now if their boss wants to send
- 1:04:03it down with his name on it and your manager rounds dates it,
- 1:04:07that's fine too. His boss is giving you a direct
- 1:04:10order. Sure.
- 1:04:11I'll take that round date and I'll also take an 8191 grievance
- 1:04:14form. And get a copy of the boss's
- 1:04:18order, too. Yeah, because you want every
- 1:04:23piece of evidence you can get against management.
- 1:04:26Because like from 8, arbitration says.
- 1:04:29And we've said on here before, management would rather climb a
- 1:04:33tree to lie than stand on the ground to tell the truth.
- 1:04:38And this right here, this sheet that's going around, is a lie.
- 1:04:46They don't need that information.
- 1:04:48They just want to see how much you're willing to put up that
- 1:04:53you're not part of your job responsibilities.
- 1:05:01So remember, take care of yourself first.
- 1:05:09Make sure you're doing your job to the best of your ability,
- 1:05:12because management's not going to management's not going to
- 1:05:16care if you're doing the job correctly.
- 1:05:18They just want specific items to be the specific way that their
- 1:05:21boss is telling them to do it. And on that note, Josh, what's
- 1:05:29your final thoughts for this episode?
- 1:05:34Go through them 40 to 40 ones or find 2 comb, find what?
- 1:05:41If any errors, dispute, dispute, dispute.
- 1:05:46Don't get yourself overwhelmed. If you do, take a step back,
- 1:05:50take a deep breath and step back in.
- 1:05:55Have a good week. We'll see you next time.
- 1:05:59Bill, what are your thoughts? Oh, I'm thinking that they have
- 1:06:07nothing better to do with their time than harass us.
- 1:06:10I think they have nothing better to do than try to steal from us.
- 1:06:14I I always find it ironic that the dumbest people in the world
- 1:06:19are in management of the post office, and especially when it
- 1:06:23comes to experience or the contract or labor laws or even
- 1:06:28common sense, I want everybody to understand that we're here
- 1:06:32for you. You need to educate yourself.
- 1:06:35You need to stand up for yourself.
- 1:06:37They need to help others in your office who are unwilling or
- 1:06:40unable to stand up for themselves because they they've
- 1:06:44been basically bullied into submission.
- 1:06:46It's time to step up, folks. It's time to step up and and
- 1:06:51challenge them. You know, it doesn't matter
- 1:06:53whether you're right or wrong. You're putting them on notice
- 1:06:56that you're not going to tolerate this type of treatment,
- 1:06:59this type of harassment, the micromanagement, the threats,
- 1:07:05the benchmarking. This is your paycheck.
- 1:07:07This is your livelihood. This is your career and the
- 1:07:10person who has the most interest in it is you and us.
- 1:07:15That's why we do this. So you know, get your mini mail
- 1:07:20dispute forms ready and file, file, file, everybody go out.
- 1:07:25Have a good safe week. Be careful out there, do the job
- 1:07:29the best your ability and get home safely to your loved ones
- 1:07:33because you're the most important delivery of the day.
- 1:07:36And even if I don't know you personally, I mean it.
- 1:07:39I it it breaks my heart when I see things where carriers you
- 1:07:43know, have to put their lives on the line for this job.
- 1:07:49Thank you guys both for doing this and Kristen for taking the
- 1:07:53day off for us to run it on our own.
- 1:07:55Boys will be boys here. Like everybody said, the biggest
- 1:08:00thing here you. Know we actually did really good
- 1:08:05today. Actually.
- 1:08:06That's the that's the good thing.
- 1:08:08We didn't go down too many rabbit holes or any of that
- 1:08:11stuff. But that's the important thing
- 1:08:13for us is just getting information out to you guys so
- 1:08:16you can make an educated decision and contact your local
- 1:08:20designated union representative with questions that you have.
- 1:08:24Because the most important part of any union is the craft
- 1:08:29employees. At the bottom, they are the
- 1:08:32union. You listening to this podcast,
- 1:08:36if you're a real carrier, you are the union each and every one
- 1:08:40of us, and participation in that union is the most important part
- 1:08:46of being a union member. Whether you're dues paying or
- 1:08:49non dues paying, it doesn't matter to us because this craft
- 1:08:55has both in it. By law, it has to.
- 1:09:00And the only way we can make this union better is with more
- 1:09:04participation. And that means that our dues
- 1:09:08paying members get involved getting involved in your local,
- 1:09:13your state or even the national level of the union and stepping
- 1:09:18up and using your voice. And it starts by keeping
- 1:09:24management in line with grievances.
- 1:09:27Even if they settle it just for language, or if they settle it
- 1:09:30for something less than what you think it should be, they
- 1:09:33shouldn't, but they are. That shouldn't matter.
- 1:09:36Filing the grievances starts a paper trail on management.
- 1:09:42It starts with the disputes. It goes up to grievances from
- 1:09:46there for the harassment. And then from there, it can go
- 1:09:50up even to the labor board eventually.
- 1:09:55So everybody have a safe week out there like Bill said and
- 1:09:58Josh said, because every day I want to be able to speak with
- 1:10:03you guys online. So take care of yourselves and
- 1:10:07we'll see you next week.
