- 0:26Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:31culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:34media, the creator economy and the digital space.
- 0:37Every Monday through Thursday and sometimes Fridays.
- 0:40I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:44media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,
- 0:48everyone. OK, we heard your cries.
- 0:51We swapped out the plant. Oh my God, the story of our
- 0:54plant. It's honestly an extensive 1.
- 0:57So if you guys were OG listeners of the podcast, you would know
- 1:00we've always had a plant. For years and years we've had a
- 1:03plant. She was in a white vase.
- 1:06And when we moved into this office from the studio, being in
- 1:09my house, we brought her and she was part of our setup.
- 1:12And then after a few months in this office, there's no
- 1:14sunlight, like there's no windows.
- 1:16So we brought her to a window in our Co working space because our
- 1:19studio office is in a Co working space.
- 1:22We brought her to the window sill over the weekend because
- 1:25she was starting to wilt. She needed some sunlight.
- 1:28OK, this was months and months ago.
- 1:30And then somebody took her and there's plants everywhere.
- 1:34We work at the Commons. If you guys have been to the
- 1:35Commons in Sydney, there's always plants like in all of the
- 1:38offices, like tons of plants. And we're in the Chippendale
- 1:40one, which is like plants everywhere.
- 1:41So I do feel like what happened was possibly somebody who works
- 1:45at the Commons moved her because they thought that she was like
- 1:48part of the Commons plant setup. But no, she was our plant.
- 1:51And we were just giving her some sunlight and somebody took her.
- 1:54And so then we just took one of the plants from the hallways and
- 1:57that was always our plant. I'm sorry for telling you all
- 1:59about our plant, but like, honestly, this has been a
- 2:01journey for me. So that was always our plant.
- 2:03And then as you guys would have noticed in the video, these past
- 2:06few weeks, she started to like, seriously die and we were giving
- 2:09her love. I don't know.
- 2:11I do not have a green thumb. OK.
- 2:12So I had to surrender her back to the hallway.
- 2:15I had to bring her back to where she belonged, to the sunlight,
- 2:19to the people who take care of the plants that know what
- 2:21they're doing. And we have this plant now and
- 2:24she is much more alive and next week, you guys know this, but at
- 2:27the end of next week, we are moving into our brand new office
- 2:30and it has a big window and I'm so excited.
- 2:32So hopefully this plant will never die now.
- 2:34All right, before I get into the stories for today, Please
- 2:36remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 2:39Please Spotify star rate US. We're trying to get to 1000
- 2:42Spotify star ratings by the end of the year.
- 2:44All right. The first story that I have for
- 2:46you guys is I wanted to cover, I guess the biggest story that I
- 2:51felt like was relevant to us that came out of Brooke
- 2:53Schofield on The Vial Files. So Brooke appeared on the Vial
- 2:57Files podcast and the episode was released yesterday.
- 3:00In the episode, they discussed an array of topics, but the main
- 3:03point of discussion that seemed to come out was Brooke's
- 3:06comments about the ending of the canceled podcast.
- 3:09As we expected. And I know it feels like we're
- 3:11kind of beating a dead horse with how much I've talked about
- 3:14canceled and it ending, but I thought that this was actually
- 3:17really interesting. It felt like something different
- 3:19than what we'd heard from her before or from like both of
- 3:22them, like Tana or Brooke about the ending of the podcast.
- 3:24So Nick basically started talking about how in the final
- 3:27episode of the canceled podcast, Brooke seemed more emotional
- 3:30Tana about the show coming to an end.
- 3:33He then asked Brooke to expand on why the show ended and how
- 3:36she's feeling about it. In response, Brooke basically
- 3:38said that if it was up to her, the podcast wouldn't have ended
- 3:41mostly for financial reasons. She would have liked the podcast
- 3:45to have taken a hiatus. Tana and I both have completely
- 3:49different reasons for wanting to end the podcast, I think.
- 3:52I can't speak for her, but if it were up to me and me alone, it
- 3:55wouldn't have ended. I probably would have just stuck
- 3:58it out just because, I mean, it's so important to my life,
- 4:01especially like financially, like I needed it there.
- 4:04Like, for her, it ended because she was, you know, in my
- 4:07opinion, like being dragged into a lot of controversy because of
- 4:10me, obviously. And I was just like, not doing
- 4:15well mentally. I was really, really struggling.
- 4:17And I felt like every single week I was putting myself in a
- 4:19position to be perceived at like a like as a version of myself
- 4:23that I was not proud of and not excited about.
- 4:26Brooke also said it was very hard for her to deal with all
- 4:28the hate comments. However, a lot of people on
- 4:30Reddit are saying that Brooke explaining the ending of
- 4:33cancelled from Tanas perspective here seems to contrast against
- 4:36Tanas recent posts Tana has posted recently from the Unwell
- 4:40Network offices. So the going theory is that
- 4:43Tanna wanted to end cancelled because she wanted to do her own
- 4:47solo podcast under Unwell or possibly not Love Lying which is
- 4:51her podcast with Trisha Paytas. They're hoping that it will get
- 4:55picked up by the Unwell Network. That's what people theorize
- 4:57because they did also make a joint post I'm pretty sure.
- 5:00I think I saw this on Reddit a couple days ago where they
- 5:02posted a selfie wearing unwell merch saying like Alex when are
- 5:06we going to join the Unwell network or something like that.
- 5:08I like hearing Brooke talk about the financial side of the
- 5:10podcast. I know that was a big point of
- 5:14discussion amongst fans is of course Tana was going to be OK
- 5:17because she has been so wealthy for so long.
- 5:20But it kind of seemed like, well, you know, does Brooke have
- 5:23a lot aside from canceled financially?
- 5:26But then she bought this house and obviously she's engaged to
- 5:29someone who presumably has money himself as well.
- 5:32So I mean, she's obviously going to be fine.
- 5:34But it's interesting to hear how she said like from a financial
- 5:36position, like, I didn't want it to end.
- 5:38I needed it there. OK, the next rate that I have
- 5:41for you guys. Bella Hadid has addressed her
- 5:43mood at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
- 5:47So last week the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show aired.
- 5:50And OK, this is a little bit of like behind the scenes for you
- 5:53guys. I did touch on it in the
- 5:56episode. I don't know if it was like
- 5:57Wednesday, Thursday. Whenever the fashion show aired
- 6:00here in Australia, it aired like during our morning.
- 6:02And so I recorded right after it aired and I touched on it just
- 6:06very briefly, but I kind of got in my head about my take.
- 6:10So I ended up cutting that whole section out.
- 6:13My take for reference was that the women, like the models were
- 6:16way too spray tanned and that take wasn't circulating yet.
- 6:21Nobody was talking about how tanned they all looked.
- 6:24And I started to get in my own head, like almost gaslighting
- 6:27myself thinking like, are you just like to chronically online?
- 6:29Like do you just need to touch grass?
- 6:31Like are you looking for a problem here?
- 6:34So I decided, you know what, I'm just going to cut it out because
- 6:37I don't know if this is like a valid take.
- 6:38But if you've been following the discourse, then you know, that
- 6:42was actually not a hot take and it was actually a valid take.
- 6:45And I really wish I had left it in now because there's been op
- 6:49eds and mainstream media about how spray tans they were.
- 6:51This is like a big topic of conversation online about like
- 6:55how spray tans the girls were and how it just made a lot of us
- 6:58feel a little bit uncomfortable. Anyways, another piece of
- 7:02discourse from the show was that Bella Hadid looked kind of
- 7:05miserable. I guess I'm going to be honest,
- 7:07I didn't really notice this because obviously when we're
- 7:09watching fashion shows, models walk down the runway, they often
- 7:12look miserable. I know the Victoria's Secret
- 7:14Fashion show is very different. They're always like laughing and
- 7:16having fun and all of that. But I just felt like, OK, Bella
- 7:19Hadid, like she's a baddie. Like that's just her vibe today.
- 7:22But no, a lot of people clocked that she seemed to be very
- 7:25miserable. So this one TikTok went
- 7:27particularly viral where the girl said Bella Hadid what the
- 7:30fuck's wrong with you? What we got to do?
- 7:32Looked like she was going to cry the whole show.
- 7:34And yesterday Bella Hadid responded.
- 7:37She wrote, girl, I got my period that morning and my stamina is
- 7:40not up yet after the whole hospital sedge.
- 7:43But I tried my best and I love you for this.
- 7:45I'm OK I swear. I'm sorry if I let you down.
- 7:48Love you. I mean it.
- 7:49I definitely don't think this girl was trying to insinuate
- 7:51that Bella Hadid had let anybody down.
- 7:53I think it was more just like out of concern.
- 7:55The fact that Bella Hadid looks like that on day one of her
- 7:57period though is so insane. I can't imagine a worse
- 8:03experience than having to walk in like the most televised
- 8:07fashion show probably in the world, or at least, you know, in
- 8:10America in lingerie and 50 lbs. She said the wings that she was
- 8:15wearing were 50 lbs. OK, 50 LB wings.
- 8:17After her grueling hospital stay, we all saw the pics on
- 8:20Instagram on day one of her period.
- 8:23That's actually insane and women are superheroes.
- 8:28Like for real. Okay, the next story that I have
- 8:30for you guys, this is also a story I had to cut out.
- 8:33So I talked about this a couple days ago in mini and I had to
- 8:37cut it out because I was saying her last name wrong.
- 8:41Okay, so TikTok star Jillian Webber is engaged.
- 8:45I know who Jillian Webber is. Obviously.
- 8:47I know her brother Jake Webber. Like, I know this whole vibe,
- 8:51OK. But for some reason, every
- 8:53single time I said their last name when I was reporting on
- 8:56this story, I was calling them web.
- 8:58And I didn't even realize it until I was editing.
- 9:01And I was like, this is so embarrassing and cringe.
- 9:04Like, I can't publish this. Everyone's going to be like, are
- 9:06you OK? So Gillian Weber is engaged.
- 9:10So Gillian Weber has announced that she's engaged to her
- 9:12longtime boyfriend Ethan. Gillian is a 24 year old rising
- 9:16TikTok star. She's famous for her fun dancing
- 9:19and lifestyle content, and she went super viral when people
- 9:22found out that she was a teacher but also posting dancing videos.
- 9:26Some people felt it was inappropriate, while others
- 9:28really defended her. More like, she's having fun, let
- 9:31her live. But in general, fans of Jillian
- 9:34have described her as the Charlie d'emilio of this next
- 9:38generation. Jillian is also the younger
- 9:40sister of creator Jake Weber, but they both got famous online
- 9:44separately. Jake was a viner, and he
- 9:46famously dated Tara Yummy for a long time.
- 9:49But yeah, Jillian got famous in her own right.
- 9:52So people are really excited for this engagement.
- 9:55You'll see Jillian Weber Engaged is trending on TikTok right now
- 9:58and fans are making tons of edits of their proposal.
- 10:01OK. And the last story that I have
- 10:02for you guys is that Justin Bieber is on Twitch.
- 10:07Now. This is a story that Annabelle
- 10:09was advocating for because Justin Bieber amongst Justin
- 10:12Bieber, Ariana Grande, Beyoncé. I feel like that is the trifecta
- 10:17of who she stands, but she loves Justin Bieber.
- 10:20She prepped this story for me and she literally made the
- 10:22headline JB on Twitch heart my king.
- 10:24So Justin Bieber has recently made a twitch channel and he was
- 10:28streaming for the first time earlier today.
- 10:30So before his stream, he posted on socials that he was live on
- 10:33Twitch before sharing a link to his channel.
- 10:35And throughout the live stream, he played basketball, he was
- 10:38skateboarding, and he also took viewers on a tour of his
- 10:41warehouse. While speaking to the camera, he
- 10:43shared that he would be live streaming almost every day.
- 10:46Imagine Justin Bieber started live streaming on Twitch every
- 10:51single day. Imagine that's how he pivoted
- 10:52his career. I think that was probably just a
- 10:55figure of speech, just something he was saying, but I would be
- 10:57interested to see if he keeps this up.
- 10:59So Justin Bieber becoming a Twitch streamer in 2025 I don't
- 11:03think was on anyone's bingo card, but there are a couple of
- 11:06things that we can take away from this.
- 11:08First, and most obvious, is that we are definitely seeing live
- 11:11streaming go mainstream in a way that we haven't before.
- 11:14This isn't a surprise given that the biggest influencers amongst
- 11:17Gen. Alpha are quite literally
- 11:19streamers, but also more and more brands are jumping on the
- 11:23platform as we know Annabelle reported on this yesterday.
- 11:26Another thing is that Justin Bieber has always been
- 11:28relatively on the pulse when it comes to socials.
- 11:31People forget that he was literally plucked from obscurity
- 11:35on YouTube and throughout his career he's always been quite
- 11:38chronically online. Like he was super active on
- 11:41Twitter for a long time and then now you'll see him posting like
- 11:441000 times a day on Instagram. Given how casual he seems to
- 11:48treat socials these days, doing streams like this doesn't feel
- 11:51like entirely out of place. But also jumping on Twitch is
- 11:54obviously part of his broader comeback this year after
- 11:57surprise dropping swag and then swag 2 and also being announced
- 12:01as the Coachella headliner for 2026.
- 12:04He even talked about Coachella on his stream.
- 12:06He said I'm putting on a hell of a show for you guys, for
- 12:09Coachella, getting ready and getting inspired.
- 12:12Now, something that I didn't formally insert into this story,
- 12:15but I think is something that I would like to look into a little
- 12:17bit more is people have noted that I guess his highest number
- 12:21when he was streaming was 10,000, like 10,000 viewers.
- 12:25And there's a lot of discourse right now about how Twitch is
- 12:28just filled with bots. Like people are not actually
- 12:31getting, let's say 30,000 views a stream, they're getting 5000
- 12:35and the rest are bots. OK, that's kind of ambiguous
- 12:38numbers, but you understand what I mean.
- 12:39There's a lot of discussion about how people believe that
- 12:42Twitch is just like full of bots and people are saying like some
- 12:45of the biggest Twitch streamers in the world, their numbers are
- 12:49ginormous. And the fact that Justin Bieber,
- 12:52OK, like he is literally the biggest celebrity in the world
- 12:55in many cases, like he's one of the biggest celebrities in the
- 12:58world. On his first ever Twitch stream,
- 13:01he only had 10,000 viewers, so people are convinced that some
- 13:04of these really big twitch streamers that get giant numbers
- 13:07are just flooded with view bots. I believe the theory is that the
- 13:11streamers themselves are aware of these bots and they are
- 13:14encouraging them buying them. I'm not really sure how bots
- 13:17work on Twitch, but I'm going to assume you can buy bot views.
- 13:20Anyways guys that's it for mini scroll today.
- 13:22Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 13:24Please remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 13:27There will be a deep dive tomorrow and also an episode of
- 13:30high stakes. All right, bye.
