- Herbie: Hey everybody. We're back again with the pork roll, and cheese podcast. I'm here with my buddy Seamus. And of course I am Herbie. ⁓ Shamus: How doing, bud? I can't call it. I guess it's kind of a sad podcast today as we do a tribute to our boy Chuck Nard. When's the first time you ever seen Chuck? What was the first movie ever seen him in or? Herbie: Damn right. I want to say that, but yeah, against Bruce Lee, when he fought Bruce Lee. ⁓ no. Enter the dragon. Shamus: What movie is that? Foursome One? The Dragon? Yeah, that's when he had the Beach Boy haircut. had a ⁓ bowl. And he didn't have a beard. So ⁓ I first saw it when I was a I'm like, who the hell is this dude? Why is he messing with Bruce? Because, you know, Bruce Lee was the band then. Yeah. But then when you look back on it, you're just like, yeah, that's a dude right there. Herbie: The John Denver, Herrick. Yeah, that did. Yeah. That's like a crow magnet, man. It's just got like nothing but hair everywhere. I he was wearing a shirt for a while. Shamus: He's right. was an epic fight too, man. That was a great fight. Yeah. So. Herbie: All those Bruce Lee movies like are just great. remember like as a kid watching that when I think it was, went to my buddy's mom's house and it was like a sleepover thing. So, ⁓ we got like, you know, TV dinners and all that stuff and popped on like the Bruce Lee marathon, like back in the eighties. And, of course, first time I'm rooting for Bruce Lee cause Bruce Lee is the man. then of course, like you said, I'm gonna see, like, who the hell is this? Shamus: Well, they only fought once, right? Yeah. Well, that's one of the one of the memes that came out after he died was a Chuck Norris didn't die. He just started a rematch with Bruce Lee was well, you know, it was it was time, you know. Herbie: So then I like, you know, of course, after that, I like start seeing a lot more like movies, like the octagon. That was like one of my favorite ones. Cause of course I had ninjas in it. So I was all about that one. Shamus: I didn't see that one. I think the first one I see was good guys wear black. ⁓ yeah. That was good. It was good. My dad liked that. And then it was one, a force of one. We fought that crazy dude. Herbie: Yeah, Force of One. Well, Force of One was like the... What's his face? He was fighting the Asian guy with the big clubbed foot. He does like lot of like... I believe that was the one with Mako's in it too. Shamus: What was the one with the crazy psycho dude who killed his family in the beginning? ⁓ Silent Rage. That's what I was thinking of. I get them confused. Herbie: violent raid. That's another one too, that's like one of my favorite ones too and of course I think the only movie that he actually was starting like look like a boozer and stuff like that was ⁓ it just his character not him was ⁓ Lone Wolf McCoy Shamus: ⁓ that's what we were talking to. And it's a podcast that's coming up. We talked to a buddy of ours. One of the one of the movies I saw as a kid, I was like, I'm going to be a cop. Yeah, that movie was he was a monster in that movie. Herbie: What's up? It probably like a little trigger for me too, because I was like, I want to be a ninja when I was like an octagon. ⁓ The one main ninja guy had like this red gi and stuff like that and a blue Hakama. And he was like messing with the size and stuff. And he didn't say nothing. I think he just hissed whenever he Chuck Norris. And I was like, that dude's bad ass. Shamus: I'll tell you what, you know how he's got all them jokes and memes. Like one of the funniest things I've ever seen in a meme is that one where he's Lone Wolf McQuaid. Yeah. And he's like just shooting and like they show like a dude skateboarding and he's like, I like the guy with the skateboard. It goes off for like 20 minutes. He's like knocking people over with it. I cry every time I see that. And it takes me back to when I was a kid because I love that movie. Herbie: Yeah, because, you know, he was, you know, another action star that was like in the 80s. And of course, like HBO and everything was just playing those movies all the time, dude. And watching that one, you know, the lone wolf McQuaid was when he had that Bronco. It was like that supercharged Bronco and first he cracked open some beers, though. Oh, yeah. Just like started. I had to rehydrate, you know, and then just go out there and just like blow out of the. Shamus: whole way. And you know, that was Lone Star beer because he was in Texas. Yeah. All over his face. He's like, all right, let's get to it. And he had a, his Eric Estrada looking buddy. Herbie: It could be Alamo beer. Yeah, that guy was actually in another movie I liked called Night of the Comet. Shamus: Who was the old guy in that movie? His mentor. ⁓ God. He was also in the Zorro movies with Antonio Baird. He was the one arm or the one three finger jack or whatever his name was. He was a he was real famous guy in the 70s. ⁓ Herbie: I think I know who you're talking about, but the friggin, yeah, cause like David Carradine was in like the lone wolf McQuaid one. Shamus: Keep talking. Yeah, he was the bad guy. Yeah. Herbie: I forget she's been in a couple other movies, man, but she was fun. Yeah, she's very nice. Shamus: Kind of reminds me like that Tia Correa. But yeah, what else he was in Delta Force Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Missing in action. think he did like. Shamus: Yeah, how do you go missing in action twice? Herbie: didn't find some of the rest of the guys. had to go back and get like, you know, three other dudes that were left behind or something, and like at another camp or something. Shamus: I because I never seen the second one but as I'm older and being in the military like I mean that is shit luck. Yeah Herbie: Well, he's also like the what invasion USA. That was another big one. Shamus: Yeah, that one I vaguely remember. Herbie: Like I said, I used to be on HBO all time too, I loved it. Shamus: LQ Jones is that guy's name. Herbie: The older dude, right? He almost looks like Colonel Sanders kind of? Shamus: He's got the big white Fuman too. Yeah. Herbie: I remember that dude, Shamus: They were saying towards the end of not towards the end of his life, like towards the end of the eighties He was actually given free karate. Like if you went to his place, he had a place set up, I think in California or somewhere where he was actually still teaching people and given free lessons. Like you can go do lessons with Chuck Morrison. ⁓ You win. Herbie: Jesus Christ. Who's your sensei Chuck Norris? Yeah, like by default, man, like, never mind. Yeah, I don't want to mess with a Chuck Norris student, you know, and he always had like that that spinning back fist and he just had like those signature moves and stuff. And he was just so fast with his kicks. It's like so disciplined, was like, Jesus Christ. Shamus: ⁓ absolutely. It just I forget the one clip I saw where he was actually it was like a video instruction one. Yeah. And the dude's holding the full bag and he's like, all right, just say, you know, you snap your leg and like he's hitting that bag and just like, wow. And you do I could have met because they always said like. And Tyson's prime getting hit with his right. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: or his right hook was like the equivalent of running into a brick wall doing 90 miles an hour. I couldn't imagine what you know, because he's whipping that leg around like that. They take your head clean off. Herbie: I may forget that. just go to your right to sleep, man. That's why I think back in the day too, like with Mike Tyson, man, everyone used to get pissed off because they would spend like the, ⁓ all that money for the, ⁓ paid to pay per view. You're waiting like a couple of hours to watch these other crappy fights. You don't care about them. Mike comes out and like just knocks the dude out in 30 seconds. You're like, app game over. Shamus: Heh. I have the sport because I used to have a subscription to Sports Illustrated. My parents used to get me and I still have the Sports Illustrated where I think it was at Spinks. He knocked out in 90 seconds. But the dude had to write an article for Sports Illustrated about it and the article pretty much went a me and my girl showed up in the late and this was word for word. Me and my girl showed up in Atlantic City. By the time we made our way through the crowd and hobnobbing with the people and other sports writers we got to ringside. as they were introducing people. He's like, I got up to go get us something to drink. By the time I came back into the arena, it was walking down the steps. The fight was over. Yeah. He's like, I can't report because I didn't see the fight. It was 90 seconds. Herbie: Pretty much that could have been the paragraph. Dude, it was 90 seconds. Well, I can't really stretch out this story too much. Shamus: And when you look back on that era, that's why we're so. Like bad ass, like bad ass, but we don't take no shit like Gen Xers, man, we don't take shit. No, you we work out like ridiculously because like we watch all them rock. All that montages ⁓ name a now. Like Chuck Norris or Sylvester Stallone or, you know, even Steven Seagal or something like there is no bad ass dude is. Herbie: Jesus Christ. Shamus: whooping ass the way these dudes did back. Is there anybody who even holds a candle like the equivalent to Chuck Norris right now? For that error? Herbie: Now? No, because I think, you know what it is, because I think like a lot of like the like Kung Fu, like, because, know, like in the 80s and stuff like that in early 90s, there was like the American action hero that kind of fizzled out a little bit. Then they're like, everyone started watching like international Kung Fu movies and stuff like that. And now you just got like, you know, like Tom Cruise just running around just beating people up and with the Mission Impossible movies where they got the place, Jack Tom Cruise doing Jack Reacher and all that stuff. So that's pretty much I'd probably say Tom Cruise is like the You the action here really? I he's been around forever and the guy does his own stunts so like you know... Shamus: Well, the real the guy who plays Rachel on TV just beat the shit out of his neighbor. Yeah. Oh, I mean, guess he's but no. Well, what I'm saying is like, there's no. I don't know that Eric just reeked of like raw like testosterone like that. Like there is no, no, no, no reason. No wonder why these kids are running around. I don't even know if they still wear skinny jeans. I might be, you know, there's no I mean, that's why these kids are like. Herbie: softer. Shamus: Yeah, I want to say another word, but I think I'd go across. But and I don't mean it like a sexual way. I just meant like they're just like. Herbie: think that's a term that we gotta, even now it's like saying gay is like, we were never really derogatory about it back in the day anyway when you, gay, gay was like. Shamus: The South Park episode they just aired about it. Did you see that? they were telling the bike. The Harley drivers are like, you guys are gay or like, what do mean? We're bikers. You know, we're hells angels. We don't mean gay like that. We meant like you ride down the street with your load motorcycles all times of the night and you wake us up and you just disrupt. That's gay. But yeah, thank God I lived during that era, man, because there were so many dudes like. They just they oh my God, like they were. Herbie: Sylvester Stallone. You could get shot in the knee, you're still fighting ten other dudes and stuff. Shamus: You kill my buddy in the ring, I'm coming to Russia and I'm gonna kick your ass. ⁓ Herbie: That was still devastated though, when Apollo died, man, I was any twitch that that when he fell on the canvas and they twitch, I was like, ⁓ bro. Shamus: Yeah, it's, the world could use another, a younger version of Chuck Norris right now so these kids can look and go, man, that guy's badass. I kinda wanna be like that. Herbie: Like I said though, like a couple years ago I did finally got his autograph and everything was another wizard's con and stuff like that. And was just like a really sweet guy. You know, it's like sometimes when you have like that type of discipline and just like... It's like more, yeah, like humility. I guess, you know, cause it's in the martial arts training and stuff like that. They're not really looking to fight people. It's just they have the ability to do it. ⁓ Shamus: Well, most of those guys are. Yeah. I mean, the dudes that know how to fight never want to. Yeah. And they give you every opportunity. Yeah. There's been times like I'll be like, hey, motherfucker. And it's like, do you really want to do this? And I'm like, and the way they hold themselves and the way they look, I'm just like, no. Thanks, buddy. Because when you see a person step a certain way, yeah, and they set their feet, you're just like. Like, can fight a little bit, but this dude's already. Herbie: But I appreciate the app, man. doing the crane kick. Shamus: He's already three steps mapped out in his mind ahead of me. So I got, all right, bro. Herbie: Yeah, they got that intense look it's like there's there's there's almost like a blank stare It's almost like looking at Michael Myers's mask. It's just like a blank stare Shamus: And then you do the the dude from Friday after he leaves. Yeah, that's right. I'll be shutting up when he'd be talking, but when he leaves, I'll be talking again. Herbie: It was a great movie too, but you know, like there's so many stars that we've lost already again, man. Like even like the lady that was in Superman, the original with Christopher Reeves, Mrs. Tessmacher, she passed away too. Yeah. I think like from what I understand, like him and his wife. Shamus: Yeah, Hackman just died not too long ago. Yeah, they found him like three weeks later. Herbie: Yeah, I'm like, what the... Jesus, Gene? Lex Luthor? Shamus: All right, let's do this. Every 10 minutes of this, we'll do it every 10 minutes. We'll exchange a Chuck Norris meme. That you think is pretty good. You can go ahead. Herbie: I'll start off with the one that says, go sit around campfires and tell Chuck Norris stories. Shamus: Chuck Norris can cook minute rice in 30 seconds. Herbie: Chuck Norris once went to the Virgin Islands, now it's just called the Islands. Shamus: Chuck Norris makes onions cry. Herbie: Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants. Shamus: Chuck Norris counted to infinity twice. ⁓ other, ⁓ thing about this dude that cracked me up is he wasn't a leading man in the ⁓ 90s, but the ⁓ 2000s he came and he would just have like, in dodgeball, he's one of the judges that he, ⁓ he's the last guy he gives a thumbs up and this one's like, thank you Chuck Norris. And he's like, you're welcome. Herbie: Oh yeah. It was just like out of nowhere. Shamus: And at the end when Ben Stower's all fat again and shit, all of a he's like fucking Chuck Norris. Herbie: That's a great movie, man. Just like, he started doing more things, you know, when they started doing the, ⁓ what the expendables and all that stuff, bringing all the old. Shamus: He even made a joke about himself in that. Great. Because of us, for some reason, I heard you were dead. Like you got bit by a snake. And he was like, I did. I got bit by a cobra. And after four or five days of agonizing pain, the cobra died. Herbie: It's great. I'm gonna miss it, Shamus: They actually called him lone wolf in that movie too. His character was the lone wolf. before they even saw him, he was like, I heard this guy's a lone wolf. And I was like, ⁓ my God, it's Joe. And he around and he looked amazing. Yeah. Actually look good. the last post he put up on Instagram, it was like three or two or three days before he died. He looked amazing. Yeah. I hope I look good. Like two or three days before I buy it. Herbie: He does, he always ⁓ Well, technically I was always thinking too, cause like he died at the age 86. So technically Chuck Norris 86 himself, cause only Chuck Norris can kill Chuck Norris, man. Shamus: Well, heard Chuck Norris said die, just left. Herbie: I remember like the other, like I used to see like the other, like the total gym commercials and stuff like that. Cause he was selling, he was selling that for like a while. He's doing like all the exercises and everything. Shamus: That's because everybody wanted to be like he was. Yeah. Like we were saying, it was always Sylvester Stallone on a Schwarzenegger. He was kind of like the small, not smaller, but like he was like that next level guy like Bruce Willis when Die Hard came out. Yeah. it didn't matter. Like when he took this, like when you saw him in a movie, you were just, oh, shit, it's Chuck Norris. And everybody just sat down the wire. It's it's one of those things Rich Eisen calls it the remote drop. Certain movies you see on TV. Herbie: Yeah. Shamus: You just dropped the remote, plant in the seat and you're watching it no matter where it starts. And he's got a lot of those movies, man. Herbie: Definitely. It's almost like, you know, they have like their little runs, you know, especially in Hollywood. They're going to have like, you know, Chuck Norris had his movie run and then like, you know, Schwarzenegger took off, especially with Conan and stuff like that. And then there's Stallone and then we're going off at the same time. Shamus: Well, it seemed like Chuck Norris and Charles Bronson had their run together. And then Sylvester Sloan and Arnold came in. Yeah. And then it went on to like Bruce Willis and like Eddie Murphy was kind of caught up in there with the Beverly Hills Cowboys But yeah, it always seemed like him and Charles Bronson were kind of going back for him. He's a bad mother. Yeah. Like I said, these kids don't have dudes like that, man. I mean, Brad Pitt's character in. Once upon a time in Hollywood where he gets his shit out of Bruce Lee. Yeah. Which is one of the greatest seeds. I laugh my ass off every time I see it. I was like, Try that again, Kato. But like Brad Pitt's character in that movie is probably the closest thing we have, like everybody like Jason Momoa. Those are just big dudes, man. We're talking about little dudes that just wow, man, just tear shit up. Herbie: I remember like speaking to Jason Momoa, I saw him like in another Comic-Con long time ago. This was like when he did Conan and I was there and he was like right next to Rose McGowan and stuff like that. And at first I wasn't like really too interested in meeting him, but he was a huge, huge dude. You know, and then of course, a couple of years later, you know, did, you know, Game of Thrones and he's like, you know, the Dothraki guy and all of that. I was at another comic. Yeah. He and he like. Yeah, he ramped them up, man. Like, actually, and what's his face? The other guy that plays Drax from Guardians of Galaxy, I guess you could say like he's another. Yeah, but he's just like another action like hero and stuff like that, too. You know what mean? But like all these guys now, they're just like big monsters. Shamus: Aquaman, bitch. Actually made that uniform look cool. Well, that's I mean, it's kind of like a vicious circle because ⁓ Chuck Norris and Charles Bronson were small dudes. Yeah. And then all of sudden here comes Arnold. Here comes Sylvester Sloan. You're all ripped up and everybody was raw. That's true. But then it went back to the smaller action type guys and stuff. And now it's coming back to the big dudes again. I guess it's just a revolving thing because like when the rocket scorpion king, that's when everybody started getting big again and stuff like that. I've seen him in person. That is it. Herbie: Yes, technically. Shamus: Big dude, man. Sure. He was across the way at the Las Vegas airport walking like his entourage and it looked like. Like Will Chamberlain in China, like what all the little dudes like he was heading shoulders bigger and the way he was just walking, you were just like you can hear the air around him. Yeah, it's like that is a big ass. Herbie: He was like Jupiter and like his entourage were like little moons as orbiting around him. Shamus: ⁓ How much shit does that guy eat a day? ⁓ His protein intake's gotta be ridiculous. Herbie: How are gonna be alive animals in Be like live alligators or something, you know? Shamus: He eats whatever Chuck Norris feeds him. Herbie: She eats Chuck Norris's leftovers. ⁓ God, that's a good question. Shamus: Who else did we lose? Last year what broke my heart? Ace Freely. Ace Freely from California. ⁓ my god that killed me. Herbie: Yes. It was just like losing people. I lost it when we lost Prince. Yeah. Ozzy, James Earl Jones. was like the Lord Vader's one with the force. Now I'm like, Jesus Christ, Shamus: Ozzy. Didn't somebody else just pass from our? Well, Carrie Fisher went a couple years ago. Herbie: Yeah, actually I met her before she passed away too. I got her autograph and I got a hug. It was awesome. ⁓ yeah. Shamus: She was awesome in the burbs. ⁓ Herbie: Come on TV series. I'm like, ⁓ I don't know But it's just like you know, like I said before like Hollywood just comes trying to bring back like old stuff and like try to revamp it even like they try to because I you know growing up I used to love the movie time bandits and I guess they try to redo that even like with the willow They try to do like that series that that flop Yeah, Val man, come on now Shamus: Yeah, I'm ready. Val Kilmer is another one that was Like everybody watches Top Gun movies from Maverick. I watched for the Iceman was the man. That was my dude. Herbie: I was like, did you watch this movie? Shamus: That's a show on my motorcycle helmet from back in the day. ⁓ Herbie: Yeah, ice man. I like I was like I was telling her I gave her like a little homework assignment. I was like, ⁓ look, you got to watch these other movies like, like a top secret was like a little spoof, like almost like an airplane type spoof thing. ⁓ it's awesome. Yeah. Great movie. ⁓ yeah. It was like, yeah. That's the two I gave. You got to watch these movies. She's like, what are you talking about? Come on. But do she's like, you know, 20, so I got like a ninja sword back at home that's like older than her, you know. Shamus: She's never seen real genius? No. Herbie: So it's like, she hasn't really tasted life yet, man. It's like, Jesus Christ. You don't really realize when you're talking to younger people, like, how much time has gone by. And I'm sure listeners can relate to that. Especially Gen Xers like us, you can actually talk to other people and be like, hey, did you watch this movie? Or even when the Marvel movies came out and stuff like that, they were making it sound like Thor and all these people were brand new characters and stuff. like, bro. They've been around since like the friggin' 50s and stuff, man. And like these guys are old as anything, you know? And they're gonna act like it's a new thing, but... Shamus: that was the one thing that was weird about Chuck Norris when he died because when I work at a middle school and elementary school and you know the elementary school is one thing because that's a pre-k to or it's even a daycare now yeah up to third grades I don't really but like in the middle school like a lot of people like do you hear Chuck Norris that like fourth graders I'm like you guys know Chuck Norris I thought that was the and one of the teachers bought up like he did that kids movie sidekicks I think it's called Herbie: Yeah, that is great. Yeah, but well, I remember sidekick, but apparently life for that Shamus: No, but apparently it's one of those movies that kids still watch. You know what I mean? Like the kids that want to do karate and all that stuff So ⁓ yeah, that another movie they said was The Little Giants with Rick Moranis Like ⁓ basically your Disney movies that watch over and over. But apparently sidekicks is one of those movies. And a lot of kids were upset that Chuck Norris died. I thought that I mean, it sucks any time. I that was great. Kids knew who he was because like you just said, there are some people that are just like, who? Yeah, like Herbie: Pick that one. ⁓ yeah. Shamus: Different generations are just like, yeah. Herbie: Like Chuck Norris There there was a dude at work he was like who was Chuck Norris him I was like, you know, of course I had to pull up a picture and he was like, ah, looks kind of from my come on Yeah Shamus: Get out. Give me your man card. You know what mean? If you got your man card on you, dude, give it to me. Herbie: Just don't even... ⁓ god, just tear it up. Shamus: Chuck Norris, get away from me! Herbie: How do you not know who Chuck Norris is? This drives me nuts, But like, you know, like you said, action heroes and stuff like that, man, it's like another part of like our childhood. Our childhood is like fading away. ⁓ Shamus: Chuck Norris doesn't mow his lawn. The grass hides in fear. Herbie: I gotta think of one, like ⁓ Time waits for no man, unless that man is Chuck Norris. Shamus: Chuck Norris memes don't buffer they dominate Herbie: If you spell Chuck Norris in Scrabble, you win forever. when you got I got ⁓ yeah I mean there's like there's like when Chuck Norris's parents had nightmares they would come to his bedroom Shamus: I'm looking. There's so many of them. Herbie: And Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits. Shamus: Say when Chuck Norris's mom was about to give birth Chuck drove her to the hospital Herbie: Here we go to Chuck Norris Knows Victoria's Secret. Shamus: Chuck Norris can whistle in five languages. Herbie: The flu gets Chuck Norris shot every year. Shamus: Chuck Norris' shadow once won a fight. Herbie: Chuck Norris doesn't call the wrong number, you pick up the wrong phone. Shamus: This is awesome. Herbie: ⁓ god, I miss him, man. ⁓ It is, it just sucks. Shamus: It's just the same because you generally thought that guy would live forever. during COVID. One of the pictures I had at my office at work or in the office at work was a picture of him with like a 7-eleven cup. He was sipping on a straw, but instead of said in 7-eleven, said coronavirus, he was drinking the coronavirus. Like there's not a dude on this planet that'll ever take that dude's like there's no meme guy like, you know, I mean, like. Herbie: No, and there's so many jokes out there. mean, we literally can go through this list like frigging forever, man. And there's still going to be like more jokes out there. I was thinking to like, even like, why doesn't Chuck Norris ever need a parachute gravity apologizes when he falls. Like God, so like I said, I don't know. You know, I mean, I'm hoping the jokes still go on about Chuck Norris and stuff like that. Shamus: ⁓ absolutely, absolutely. Well, like I said, as soon as he died, like the first one I heard was, you know, all the bulls in the Middle East or an Iran or something like have informed terrorists to give up what they're doing and and, know, find new jobs because there's no longer virgins in heaven. This Chuck's there. Then the next one I heard was like, hey, I heard he's going to carry his own casket. Herbie: This is like, Just the fact that he's gone is just, you know, and like you said, other people, there's so many of them that are leaving, or not leaving, but, you know, passing away. Shamus: Well, like we were talking about, there's nobody like him. Is there really anybody carrying that karate type? Like Steven Seagal hasn't done movies in a while. Sean Claude Van Dan is talking about maybe fighting competitively, I'd hate to see at 60 something years old. Li is not doing anything. Jackie Chan is kind of old. I know he did the Karate Kid Generations. But there's like no upcoming due that you're just like, man, I got to see this movie. Like Brandon Lee when the crow came out was amazing. But I mean, obviously, we know what happened to that. It was a great movie. Yeah. But I mean, is there anybody because you're in that that's your genre. Herbie: That was horrible. And so it's like, like, because now all the martial arts flicks are like from overseas and stuff. know, like, especially now kids right now are more watching the anime. Yeah. So it's not really like too much live action and stuff like that. It's just like guys our age and stuff. They're like, oh, you watch new IP man or like any other type of new kung fu movie. I mean, there's still like a lot of kung fu movies that come out through like China and Japan and stuff like that. But. nothing that's really like getting mainstream in the states, you know, it's just, know, for the, the, for the generation now, like I said, it's, it's anime and you know, you know, video games, really any other video game characters and stuff like that, cause they do like crossovers like in, like we were talking about before, like Fortnite, they'll have like special characters like, you know, Thanos and stuff like that to like crossover into like, you know, fandom and all that stuff. Shamus: It's a shame because if you look at them old movies like you know anything Bruce Lee did or even Chuck's early stuff like just the fighting scenes in that yeah like most of that stuff now would just be computer generated like it shows how gifted those guys really were yeah because what was the one movie was it the Tower of Terror where he's like in the middle Bruce Lee's in the middle of that room Herbie: ⁓ Game of Death. Shamus: And he had the nunchucks. He's just like that. And like all these dudes are running at him. And he's just and then when he drops him, he's just everything was just hand fight like and they're always making them faces and noises and stuff like that. ⁓ That's real time. I mean, what was somebody said to one movie? Somebody actually showed up to really fight him. Yeah, because he was sleeping with his wife or something like that. Or I forget what it had. Herbie: It was like filmed in real time too. that Bruce Lee was. Shamus: And the guy showed up and said he was going to kill Bruce Lee and he ended up fighting and the director had the common sense to tape the fight. Yeah. And that actually made the movie. It was like a real legit fight. It was something like that. Herbie: Yeah, I think it was called The Big Boss. It was like one of his very first like movies and stuff like that. Shamus: But like just and that wasn't even choreographed. mean, like just yeah, all that stuff they were doing back then, like how fast like even Chuck Norris, like in all his movies And you're just kind of like, dude, like now all that stuff would be computer generated. Yeah, it just ⁓ like we said ⁓ Herbie: and stuff like that and heavily choreographed because I remember like I saw a video not too long ago that Chuck Norris was talking about the fight between me him and Bruce Lee and Bruce Lee was like all right well I'm gonna do this and Chuck Norris like I'll do this and then it was just like they were just verbally talking about what they were gonna do and they just shot the fight scene and it was just like awesome because they were just like kicking the crap out of each other you know Shamus: And don't get me wrong, there are some fight scenes nowadays. Like any of John Wick movies, man. Some of the stuff that. Yeah, it does it. Yeah, he actually like he'd probably be the closest thing because I know he takes all them classes like ⁓ like even the shooting in those movies like he's working with like special operations guys. Yeah. FBI, you know, Delta Force guys and stuff like they show him at the like even Halle Berry did some of it. I think she was in three. Herbie: There's just like, yeah, was gonna say John. Good job. Well, actually, yeah, you know what? Yeah, she had the German Shepherds and stuff. Shamus: Yeah. And like they show them moving through because I was like, we had to do a lot of that in the military. Like combat shooting and like open range kind of stuff and da da da. And I was impressed. was like, wow, this guy's really putting, you know, lead on paper and this and he could do it like this guy's moving. this guy is this guy's tearing. So but like some of those fight scenes in those movies are like the night was a part two. Herbie: ⁓ yeah, like the outside open. Yeah, he was hitting every target, Shamus: the knife fighting scene where like they're breaking glass and are like, I can appreciate that, but it's still like 1970s cinema where they're just kind of like, y'all see how they are. Herbie: It's crazy too because you you go from like Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Shamus: It's like, Strange stings are afoot at Circle K. What's up, death? Herbie: like Jesus Christ and then he's just whooping everyone's ass and John Wick and stuff you know like the one the one thing that everyone like goofs about like with Keanu is ⁓ his accent in Dracula with Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder Shamus: I just seen that movie. Not really. Yeah. Lady friend of ours who's probably listening. I'm trying to have her on for the Halloween special that we're going to do. And she loves Halloween. She loves all kinds of horror movies and stuff. And we were talking about, you know, the best Dracula movie. Yeah. And of course, me, it's the original Nosferatu. Oh, yeah. And then, you know, Dracula is not in it, but like the Lost Boy, everybody's like, oh, all the girls like Twilight. I'm like Lost Boys. Yeah. But she was like, you got to check out Dracula with Gary Oldman. I was like. Herbie: Come on. Shamus: He was Dracula. Yeah. And she was like, yeah. So I watched it. Awesome suit net. Like with the glasses. I was like, dude, I got to get me that suit. That's. Herbie: armor that he had too that was almost like a like a dragon type thing but it was like almost made out of they look like it was muscle you know like all red with like muscle like striations and stuff that was freaking sweet Shamus: can't remember, I do remember Keanu being in it because he was the boyfriend. But I can't remember if he had a shitty accent. Herbie: was a shitty accent sorry Keanu man like I love you you're a great guy like a great human too and all that but like that accent was just like bro Shamus: And he's another guy, Johnny Utah. Yeah, you talk. Give me. That's another reason why I was a cop man. Really? Yeah. Point break. The original point. I know the other one I never saw because I refuse to watch that. Yeah. But yeah, man. Johnny, talk. Awesome movie. That's another remote drop. doesn't matter where it's at in the movie. I could be out there mowing along, come in for a drink. If that movie's on TV that long and wait till tomorrow. I love that movie. That's in my top 10, man. Herbie: Two. ⁓ yeah. Yeah, that's a great movie. You know what's crazy? Like the one that he did with River Phoenix called My Private Idaho. That's just a weird movie. It's just a weird artsy movie. they're just like, you know, street boys that live from Seattle. They're just like basically street boy prostitutes, you know, it's just like they're, ⁓ River Phoenix is looking for his father and they're like dudes that yeah. But like a Keanu's character was like from a family that was well off. Shamus: I've heard of it, but I don't Are they sleeping with dudes or chicks? Wow. Herbie: and he just decided to leave I guess he didn't want like you know the type of and executive life and all that stuff so he's like ⁓ Shamus: Didn't want their money. What other good action movies have been out like that? Like fight movies? Like it's like I said in that movie, once upon a time in Hollywood, that scene with Brad Pitt and what's supposed to be Bruce Lee. He's like my man. I would fight you, but if I kill you, my hands are registered weapons and I would go to jail for manslaughter. And he was like, number one, anybody kills anybody fight goes to jail for. He's like, and I think you're a little dude with a big chip on your shoulder. Herbie: Right up against the car bed. It was a huge dent in the car was almost like a goddamn Marvel attack man. I like Jesus Christ freaking Shamus: Yeah, I love that. I'm glad he's getting a spin off. He's getting his own movie. The stunt man and that. Yeah, he's getting it was the commercials during the Super Bowl. It's one of the few things I watched during the Super Bowl. But like when I saw it, was like, that's my man. Like, that's the stunt man from. And yeah, he's getting his own movie. Which is awesome, because I thought his character was awesome. Herbie: How bread? Jeez. Some of like newer action movies. I don't know man. I just kind of fell off watching like newer action movies. kind of... I'm just like reverting back to older movies. Shamus: Like even us are getting soft. Yeah. Another guy we forgot was fuck Clint Eastwood in the early eighties. He's like, did you really have to shoot that man? He's like, well, excuse me, Captain, anybody I see running down the street naked with a hard on Jason Jicks deserves a bullet. You you can't say that nowadays. ⁓ Herbie: No, I did love him in every which way you can in every which way but loose. yeah, man. Like right turn Clyde. Shamus: ⁓ Fylo best. I love the gray mom. ⁓ I get no respect around here. God damn gorilla walk around drinking my beer. No respect. Herbie: No, my Oreos. Yeah, that's like that double barrel shotgun. she's just sitting on the front porch, just like lighting up the bikers and stuff. It is a great like she did. She did a great movie to like Harold and Maude, too. And it was a great movie. That was an older, you know, people are like, you know, some some people are generation might be like, oh, yeah, I remember those movies. But other listeners like what the hell movies you guys talking about? Look these movies up. Shamus: Yeah. ⁓ Burr Reynolds was another kind of action guy. ⁓ yeah. Like the smoking abandoned movies and so he was my idol. That guy. man, they just don't make guys like that anymore. Like when Clint Eastwood dies, I got to take a week off work. Yeah. Like Chuck could hit me, but Clint's my dude. And some of the movies, like not even the ones he were in, but the movies he directed. Unbelievable. Herbie: My mom loves Clint Eastwood too. Yeah, they're He's talented, ⁓ Shamus: Was it flags of our fathers he did? Or was it letters of Iwo Jima? He did one of those. Herbie: And also he did Baby too, I think Baby was in Gran Torino. Shamus: Yeah, million dollar baby. He Grand Torino. He did Mystic River. Mystic River. ⁓ Sean Penn is awesome in that movie. Herbie: Yeah, I'm surprised with... Sean Penn's good too, Shamus: He did one movie. Cry Macho. Have you ever seen that now? Awesome movie, ⁓ really? I don't know. I kind of forget the premise of it, but like there's this like Mexican kid that hangs out with him and he's got this rooster like a fighting chicken that he saved and his name is Macho and the kids accent. His name is much. ⁓ cry much. it's it's an awesome movie. Herbie: It's a new room of error. Shamus: ⁓ It came out right before he did the mule too, you know, one that is where he's like the old guy Like it was right before that came out ⁓ He's got to be what 98 now, yeah, he's up there Herbie: I'm just like, don't even want to test it. Shamus: We just fucking freeze them dude until we can figure out how we can live forever because that guy needs to live forever. Yeah Herbie: Even Chuck too, man, I'm like, how the hell? Shamus: That Super commercial. What he did that Super Bowl commercial like two, three years ago. He's like this America. It was like a Ford commercial, but he did like this whole spiel about America and how it did it. And I just kind of like, I'm to get up and run through this wall right now. think the guy is 95 years old and he's got me ready to just like chew on this wall to get out and just like just go bananas. Herbie: That's what I mean. there is like like you're right though, because back in the day we would have like those movies that would get you all hyped up like you want to go out and do stuff. You'd be so freaking pumped, man. Shamus: ⁓ absolutely. Well, how many people got turned on the karate because of Chuck Norris? You know what I mean? Like I said, all those fourth graders, fifth graders and my I mean, this is 2020 years, 2026, and they're watching sidekicks when they were little and they're going to start taking karate because of that, dude. Really? Herbie: I'm surprised of like that pic of the movie. I'll be like, maybe Octagon or something. Shamus: I don't know if like third and fourth graders can watch Octagon. Yeah, definitely don't show them silent rage. Herbie: Also, did like the one was like almost like a turner and hooch type of, think was like top dog or something like that. Shamus: Yeah, he did like a couple of like, like I said, like like kid movies. Which is amazing. You can make that transition from lone wolf McQuaid when you're kicking the teeth out of Mexicans to, you know, hey, I'm the cute kid cop with a dog. Yeah. Herbie: with his big old beard. Shamus: I guess Arnold did it too, because he went from like Predator and Conan to rape the women. Yeah. Exactly. And have their leaders bow at your feet too. Yeah. It's not a tumor. He's a kindergarten cop. Herbie: hear the limitation of the women He's like, not only that too, man, cause like when he first came out to like his, uh, his voice was completely dubbed over. was like, you know, Hercules in New York, I think was his first movie. And it was just, you know, a horrible movie, not great whatsoever, but you know, he had the, um, you know, dubbed over. know, voiceover and stuff like that. Same thing with like the, Lou Ferrigno movies back in the day. Cause I still love like Lou Ferrigno even from like Hulk and all that stuff. And he did like a lot of like Italian movies. Shamus: I'm surprised he's still around because he's supposed to be in the event. He's in doom. They said there's a rumor that he's in because I guess they do different port like different, you know, how it's like universe 262 or universe 1750 or whatever, like for it, no supposed to be a Hulk and one of them or something. Yeah. So. Herbie: Really? Shamus: That's yeah, I can't believe that guy's still alive Herbie: just trying to think of my comments. Shamus: I guess he's got to be around Arnold tape. Yeah, because they were competing together. Yeah. There's that movie Pumping Iron. Herbie: Yeah, he's not like, you know, like, like high 80s and stuff like that. He should be like low 70s at least. Shamus: I what he looks like. haven't seen him in a while. Herbie: I saw him... Yeah, he still fit and everything. Shamus: he still big? Well, mean, just to, Arnold doesn't have the muscular mass, but you could just tell he's got the genetics. Like he's a big bone dude. Herbie: Arnold still has that freaking sword from Conan, man. I'm like, ⁓ that is freaking s- Shamus: They said they're doing a movie. They're doing a Kona movie with him. They're doing he's got a whole run coming up. He's up. They're doing a Predator movie with him. Yeah. And it's almost like the Expendables, but like wrestlers like Triple H is in it. Yeah. Batista. I think Booker T. Yeah. And then they're doing a Conan one, too. I guess where his son's coming up or something like that. I forget what it is. Really? Soon as Sylvester Stallone decided to do, you know, Rambo again. Herbie: hope so, man. More cannon fodder. Shamus: Like that first one back in 03 or 06, like everything just got rebooted. Herbie: Right. He does find a way to revamp his movies, you know? Yeah. Well, yeah, that, that was, that was. Shamus: I thought it was genius how he did the creep thing. Like the first Creed was great. Even the second one, when the, you the Russian comes to Philadelphia and he ties that all in. the third one was okay. Herbie: Still don't forgive Ivan Drago for killing Apollo, God damn it. Shamus: No, no. I buddy. he always says that. Somebody say something about Russia. He's like, man, I still ain't right with them after that Apollo shit. Yeah. Yes. Look over. But these are also the same guys when the last movie he fought in was Rocky Balboa. Yeah. And he was training out like we watched that. I had to work. And when I got off of work, I had people already at my house. Christmas night, like they'd already did dinner with their families and stuff. So now like everybody was just at my house drinking beers So when I got off a shift, I went home and they were like, ⁓ we got the bootleg of the new Rocky. It ⁓ was in theaters. ⁓ we a bootleg, let's watch it. So we're watching it. it was the first time they actually did like the HBO lead up to ⁓ the Rocky fight. Like it a real fight. Like you watch on TV. And I guess it was so real. like the announcers are like the real announcers They're like, all right, here we go. Opening down here. And like two or three of my buddies like that'll rock. I was like, you guys didn't bet this fight, did you? Herbie: Yeah, dude. Well, you know, even like, know, with the original Rocky, it like, anyone that went to Philly, like, at least once ran up the stairs, Shamus: ⁓ absolutely. A buddy of mine from Boston came in. I served with great dude. ⁓ my buddy, Jose Almeida. ⁓ He came down and that's of the things his daughter wanted to do. She didn't want to cheese day. She didn't want to see the Liberty Bell. She was like, I need to run the Rockies. Or it was either his daughter or ⁓ I think he bought his nephew with him. Yeah. One of them was like, we got to go to the Rocky Steps. And they took a picture ⁓ there. And then I met him over at Gino's. I got some cheese. I could have took them to a better place because Gino's and Pat's is like a tourist place. But the next time they come down, we're going to go somewhere better, like ⁓ Chinks or ⁓ what's the other one? Angelo's is really good, too. But as far as everybody's got to you got to do around them. My grandfather worked there for like 40 some years really at the art museum. Really? He got a job there, I believe, in the early 70s. So he had pictures with all those guys because when they were doing and Rocky three, when they were Herbie: ⁓ yeah, definitely man. Shamus: unveiled the statue for the first time and stuff like he was one of the guards in the like you can't see him like you see a blue uniform. Yeah, like he's there. So because it used to be run by the I think it like the Philadelphia Police Department. Yeah. And then when he was getting ready to retire, they privatize it. And the company who's doing it were just like, hey, you're getting ready to retire. And he was just like, yeah, you know, I got 25 years into that. they're like, well, why don't you retire, collect your pension and then come back and work for our company? Herbie: ⁓ that's dope. Shamus: So he went right back to the art museum with a pension and all that stuff and did the same job again for like another 15, 20 years. He deserved to die, he was a great dude. But yeah, he had pictures with all those dudes. Mr. T, Sylvester Sloan, the guy who played Mickey. And anytime they were at the art museum, like he was working that night when Rocky pulls up after he loses the fight and he throws the helmet at the statue and stuff. He was working that night, he saw all that. So yeah, my grandfather worked there. Herbie: Man, really? That's actually still one of my favorite Rocky movies. three? Yeah, when he fights Mr. T. Shamus: Get the shit out of me, man. Because that was the first time they really used them like sound effects where he was getting ready to breathe and like he'd like lean back and. Herbie: like a T-Rex. I swear to God, anybody tries to hit me. I'm not, I'm not the dude to try to get into fights anyway, but if you're screaming and you sound like a T-Rex, I'm, ⁓ I'm, I'm gone. I'm not. Shamus: Like even in second fight where he's throwing punches and Rocky's talking you should ⁓ I was like you that guy's throw with velocity I Got a big head and it's a big target man. So I ain't fucking with nobody that big ⁓ Herbie: ⁓ yeah. Yeah. I can't run fast anymore so I can't even outrun or ninja maneuver out the way, Shamus: There's only one other person on the planet that threw like that. It was my mother. Every once in a while, I'd talk to you here. was like, oh, I got. Not the face, not the face. God rest her soul. I love that woman, man. I do. And trust me, if you're listening to this, I was not an abused child. I deserved every ass whooping I got. Herbie: Time to clean up my room. I see you least you least you know you manned up to it though. ⁓ Shamus: Oh, dude, I was that guy. I was just like those goddamn cop movies like Clint Eastwood and stuff. They would walk into the captain's office and like eat my ass or do what I want. I'm Yeah, I would just kind of try that with my parents and I never got a chance to walk out of the room like a. Herbie: I mean, like you walked in, but you were limping out, Shamus: Now they would just walk out of room and tell my brother pick him up and take him upstairs. Herbie: I was a good kid every once in a while. If I did something bad, like, you know, my mom be like, you know, wait till your father gets home like, oh, man, it was like when I was little toddler. We have like that. You know, there's like late 70s. So we have like, you had that big wide leather dad belt. And I was like, Jesus Christ, that thing's huge. I look like one of those wrestling. not like a weightlifting. Yeah, the back belt is what it was like. You know, and I'm like, you know, two foot nothing. And I felt that thing is you bug is like the belt buckle was like just. Shamus: ⁓ the back belt. Herbie: like the size of a head of a shovel. I was like, I don't want to get hit with that stuff. Shamus: ⁓ it was the opposite way because my father would be like, wait till your mother gets home. And I'd be pleased. don't tell her. I watched your car. I'll do whatever it the problem with me, my mom was and like I said, I was a good kid. Like my grades kind of sucked here and there. But like I never really did anything totally off the wall. Yeah. But like our sense of humor was the same. Yeah. And that's what. Yeah, because I would hear her tell my father. Herbie: We triggered that. Shamus: Like, that's exactly what I was thinking, but he's not an old enough to say that shit. My dad gets it from you. And then also your my dad talked. Yeah, I was like, I was like a follow green. That's his manager. But get out of the corner. Herbie: You got to be later in your feet at your house, Oh, yeah. I was I was a good kid, so I didn't have to really worry. You know, I have to train with my spider senses tankling or nothing like that. And I was just like, just like a good kid. You know, I was always like a little doofus running around with a big smile, trying to be Spider-Man. Shamus: ⁓ dude. Yeah, but I'll tell you what, they taught me one thing. They taught me consequences because there was times like I would get ready to do something dumb. Yeah. And it was almost like a Hollywood movie. The angel and the devil would pop up on both sides. And the angel like, you know, if you do this, what the conscious quest is going to be the devil like, fuck it, dude, do it. You only live once. Yeah. Your mom says enjoy life. Take it to the forest, man. Do it. What's another ass beating? Herbie: It's not gonna hit you this time, you can duck it! Shamus: And then I would just sit there and go, yeah. And then sometimes I get, nah, fuck that. My ass is still purple from last night. Or I would just go, yeah, man, fuck it, let's do it. just, so. Herbie: I'm guaranteed. bet you slept good every night when you were a kid, And it's just like, just when you got your ass kicked, you're just like ready to go to sleep with like in a coma toes. Shamus: What do mean? ⁓ absolutely. But they were always supportive like the next day, like they held any grudges or anything like that. And like, we're good. Yeah, we're good. I'll ever fucking do that again. Yeah, I got you. Trust me again. My ass won't let me. I promise you, because it is purple. Herbie: don't even bring it No, no spankings for, well, like I said, I never got like, you know, beat up like, you know, spanking and all that stuff. I was, I was a good boy. Surprising. Cause now like after I got older, that's when I started getting a little bit more mischiefe and shy, Steve and stuff, you know, cause like, like, like one of the early teens and stuff. That's when I was more like reckless and stupid and did a lot of dumb stuff. So I'm surprised I'm still alive. Matter of fact, if you ever watched teen wolf, Shamus: Yeah. Herbie: It's trying to surf on top of a car. moving car is not very smart to do. Shamus: Yeah, I've done that. I think we've all done that. We'll see that movie. Herbie: God, I had a bush to break my fall when I flew off my buddy's car. Shamus: A couple of us attempted. I know they took it out of the movie, but that movie, that football movie, the program where there's a scene they took out of movie because kids were doing it and somebody got killed. ⁓ They were like in the middle of the like this four lane highway with traffic going two lanes this way and this way. And they were laying in the middle of the yellow lane just reading like the sports illustrated or whatever. And like they were lying in traffic just. Herbie: at that. Shamus: We walked right out on Bridgeboro Street and that first car was coming. was like, nope, nope, Herbie: And everybody says, never don't even mention it now. People might want to make it a tick tock challenge and stuff like that. Next thing a couple of kids are to get creamed on the road. Shamus: Yeah, if anybody listens to this student there are age and they deserve to get run over I Mean don't get me wrong. I'll still jump out of an airplane or you know drive a drag car like I'm looking for a crotch rocket again this summer I sold the one I had last year, but yeah, there's stupid and then there's just Herbie: in the herd. Yeah. You're insane. You're not Chuck Norris, man. You can do all that extra stuff, Shamus: Like, yeah. Like I said, guys like that, like some of the stuff I did when I was a kid was because of those dudes like I just like you be running and. They just chasing somebody who's sticking around and you think like I can jump over like the side of this car, like I can just kind of levitate over the fender across the hood and just ⁓ it never turned out the way it in the movie. The Duke's a hazard, like when the beginning scene, when they come around and the guy slides across the hood. Yeah. Nope. Especially when you're wearing shorts, because it's like, now you got this big raspberry, a burn mark on your lower ass cheek. And you're like, ⁓ my God, you're no, your elbows all scraped up. ⁓ Herbie: Or your book gets meat hooked by like that little emblem on the end of the trunk. You know, they did a little cat like emblem. Yeah. I yoked up by that. That's not, it's not a great feeling. Shamus: When we lived in Philadelphia, we had four or five steps that went up to our porch ⁓ a row home. Of course, my mom was in the kitchen doing something and the tour de France at the time just happened to be on TV and they showed the part where they were going down like the art museum steps or. Yeah. My brother was like, gather the people. ⁓ was like, all right. ⁓ I get like all the neighborhood kids together. I had to be like five or six. My brother like on the tricycle was just like almost did the triple Lindsay thing where you held up a song. Yeah And he was like first step second sample, but he's gonna make it the whole sudden the back end came over So after he got home from the hospital she was like what happened and I was like he's got five stitches in his face and he didn't tell you Herbie: I did actually I got it like we used to in the Bronx. used to do it with a a truck like a Almost like a big wheel and it was like we had the attic apartments It was like these steps like a lot of steps, but thank God that was like maybe four something like that So my bones weren't fully like developed or anything and I was tiny and like a little ball of pudge So as soon as I wiped out the I was just like and I literally like like rolled over And of course my mom, you know, she's a little Puerto Rican lady freaking out Shamus: you Herbie: And I was like, of course, she freaks out at first, make sure that I'm OK. And then just when I got up to the back to the apartment, I was just like, ⁓ my God, I was. yeah. Mom laid into me. was like she was crying. She's like, I don't want to die, but I'm going to kill you right now. Shamus: If you were okay, they're like, are you okay? Like don't like And if you were hurt my dad would just walk over like get up And you just get up he was like Go see your mother then you go see your mom. She's like, what'd do now dummy? those are good days, man Herbie: Well, I did like a lot times when I was a kid, you know, because now my mom was like the stay at home mom and that was always at work. So like, you know, of course, when Spiderman was out and I was used to watch like the old like sixties cartoon. So I had like the like the onesie pajama thing. ⁓ yeah, dude, they were the best. would like it was one of those things where you just wear like every day. That was like your outfit. So it just like jumping around on the couches and all that stuff. And I would even put like Elmer's glue on my hand to see if I could stick up to the walls and everything. And that didn't turn out too well. Shamus: Yeah, I think we all have. Herbie: And of course it was an apartment that we rented. So it was not like I can't really mess this thing up and my parents would be freaking out. Shamus: ⁓ we forgot our Chuck Norris stuff. ⁓ Herbie: when you got. Shamus: Chuck Norris can unscramble an egg. Herbie: What's Chuck Norris' favorite type of candy? Jawbreakers, for obvious reasons. Shamus: Chuck Norris can hear sign language. Herbie: Why can't Chuck Norris play hide and Because good luck hiding when fear follows his shadow. Shamus: I don't know. Chuck Norris does a plank, the floor sweats. Herbie: Why doesn't Chuck Norris need a GPS? He decides where he is and the world complies. Shamus: Rumor has it Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer, but he's never cried. Herbie: How fast can Chuck Norris run a mile faster than the speed of light backward? Shamus: Chuck Norris once slammed a revolving door. Herbie: Now does Chuck Norris make a sandwich? He stares at the bread until it obeys. Shamus: Chuck Norris enters the room, the Wi-Fi signal gets stronger. Herbie: Why does Chuck Norris never get lost maps fear him. Shamus: Chuck Norris's calendar goes straight from March 31st to April 2nd, because no one fools Chuck Norris. Herbie: What did Chuck Norris do when he saw a spider? The spider left town. Shamus: These are amazing. Herbie: How many pushups can Chuck Norris do? All of them. Shamus: Chuck Dars can parallel park a train. Herbie: He's like, what's Chuck Norris's favorite game? It's anything he hasn't destroyed yet. There's also why does Chuck Norris or how does Chuck Norris make tea? He stares at the water until it boils itself out of respect. These things are gonna last forever. There's so many. It's just like, Shamus: Yeah, they are. And they're going to get worse. Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird. Herbie: Chuck Norris once had a heart attack, his heart lost. Shamus: ⁓ that's a, I heard that one too, after he died, Chuck Norris didn't die of a heart attack because his heart was too afraid to attack. Herbie: I like, how many other I got? A bunch really is just like tons of you got anymore Shamus: Chuck Norris once turned in a blank page to his, a distributor. It's now a best seller. ⁓ Herbie: Why doesn't Chuck Norris sleep? He waits. I don't know, man. I'm just going to miss you, Chuck. Shamus: Yeah, it's it's it's like I said, man, some of the guys we lost, Michael Madsen, Val Kilmer, Ace Freely, Chuck Norris, Ozzy, Gene Hackman. And there's a buttload of other people we haven't Yeah, there's one of the greatest voices of all time. Yeah, even the dude who invented the frozen burrito died last September. Man, the original like like all the frozen burritos we have in the world is because of that dude and he and he didn't get no love. I Herbie: Sir James L. Jones, baby. Ozzy loved burritos man, every time at the Ozzy show he'd be like, I want me a burrito. Sharon, where's me burrito? Shamus: Was that the Jerky Boys movie? ⁓ Where are the roadies at? They left you. They went tour with the monkeys. The fucking monkeys. ⁓ The Prince of Darkness. That was one of my favorite from that TV show with all the bubbles. He's like, Jesus Christ, Karen. He's like, the Prince of fucking Darkness. What's with the bubbles? ⁓ Herbie: Fucking dog Yo, yeah. Dude, can you imagine that going over like an Ozzy concert and there's like bubbles all over the damn place? Shamus: No, because I actually saw him one time and I had to be cry. I was young, man. I like 15 in 91 or 92. He played the tower and like I kind of knew who he was. But like my uncle was a huge black Sabbath guy Like I said, I grew up listening to Kiss and all that stuff. So he was always in that genre. But we I don't know how he got tickets, man. We were like fifth row like not center, but like kind of off to the right. And that dude came out and that was the first time I've ever seen Randy Castillo, who's an amazing. He passed away, but he was Ozzie's drummer. And Ozzie comes out like that. Like the Damien music starts there and that dude come running out. He ran across the stage to our left with this bucket of water and he fucking throws it out in the crowd and that devil music keeps playing. He grabs another bucket. And he runs over to our side and he throws a bucket and then he throws one out in the middle and all of a sudden like it's starting to wrap up. He's like, let the fucking badness begin. And they went right into, um, not crazy train. I forget the name of the song, but like I was just kind of like, holy shit, this guy's and like the whole time, just pure energy. Yeah. Like running and like every once in a you just hear like the smoke, the joints and like you couldn't see anything at one point. So much smoke in that place. And I was like, this is man. It was inside the tower and it was a tower, a small venue, man. So I was just kind of like. Herbie: Was it an outsider inside. Shamus: Like I was like right then and there I started buying all his stuff. Yeah. He did a documentary and I have the DVD. It's why I think ⁓ don't blame me. The Ozzy Osbourne thing and like some of the quotes in the interviews he does now is hysterical, dude. So I never saw him at Oz Fest and everyone did any last fest And then he got to the point where he was just kind of like, you know, and I didn't want to see him like that when he was like all hobbled over just barely. I would have loved to go on the last concert like your buddy, that would have been awesome. But dude, one of the greatest showmen I've ever. Like I was exhausted after that. I couldn't imagine what he felt like because it was just not like nobody sat down. Everybody was just going like crazy. It was just unbelievable. Herbie: I'm sure adrenaline at that moment, man. Shamus: ⁓ Flying High Again was the song. And I was just like, man. And ever since I'm huge fan, watch the TV show just. And like I said, so much shit on that TV show is just like when they found out his cat had herpes and he always called the cats plus. Yeah, plus has happy. Like there's a the interview he did on that DVD I have is like one of them religious lawyers is just like That's on suicide solution, which ⁓ about suicide, but it's like it's about preventing suicide or whatever It doesn't and he was like there's a hemisynch in the song that says if you listen if you play it real low with this bass down you'll hear him say get get get the gun ⁓ like You hear the guy's voice, but you see Ozzy's face on the camera ⁓ When the guy gets started talking, Ozzy's like... I'm fucking speechless, man. He's like, fucking hemisynch, like a thing. Like I'm not a fucking plumber, man. Like what the fuck is he talking about? I never said get the fucking gun, man. Where do they find these people? Herbie: What was the thing, like about that time, man, everyone was like looking to like, ⁓ FCC or whatever. We're looking to like find a way to like, you know, if you play the, if you play it backwards that, and. Shamus: Yeah, you remember that that would happen in the 80s too if you play this backwards and all that shit. It's the devil. Yeah Herbie: the devil's music and all that stuff. Shamus: And then Dee Snider went into Congress and just put everybody on their goddamn like their jaws hit the table because they didn't realize this heavy metal dude is like highly educated and just went in there and just schooled them on all that shit. It was a weird time, man. Like the 80s were awesome. Yeah. We had so much shit going on. Yeah. Herbie: And it's like, course, know, us talking about it, reminiscing and stuff, it's always like, you know, we got to move on because, know, we can even say, sucks. Shamus: ⁓ yeah, but I just don't I don't live in a Paris, but I love looking back on it ⁓ yeah, because like I said like this whole podcast like we talked about Chuck Norris wholesome guy Yeah, you know everybody looked up to him to die like that movie sidekicks and but also during that era You had Ozzy pissing on the Alamo you had guys in botley crew like openly doing cocaine and just every hair metal band were just alcoholics and But then you also had a hall coat. mean, he was doing steroids. I'm like, drink your milk, your prayers, brother. was so, like, the dynamic swing, like that pendulum swung so far in the 80s, just out of control. Herbie: Even like the Vietnam movies and stuff like that got like a big revamp in the 80s, know with platoon and all that stuff. was just like... Shamus: Yeah, what was another one? I can't remember. Like every time I think of Vietnam War, my favorite one is Tropic Thunder. Yeah. ⁓ yeah. But, yeah, the 80s were just man. And like I said, a small part of a huge part of that just passed away with Chuck Nard. my. Herbie: This is like entertaining on all these sides, movies, sports, ⁓ music, even the genres of the movies, like action, horror, course horror was like a big burst of horror movies and stuff out there. Shamus: just seemed like, well, like we talked on a exciting, a new podcast about movies and stuff with those guys. It just seemed like the 70s, like in the 50s, the 40s and 50s and 60s was like the sound of music, that kind of stuff. like movies were coming along. But like, it just seemed like in the 70s, they started getting... But in the 80s, it just exploded. Like it was... Herbie: Yeah, give those guys a little... Shamus: Like in the seventies, if you look at an old seventies newspaper, you would have like two movies at the local movie theater. And the eighties, it was just, that's when they started building the, the mega movie complexes and all that stuff And like, you know, Arnold and Sly had movies coming out the opening weekend. And then after that, it was, you know, maybe Steven Seagal or Chuck Norris or Charles Brown. Like there was always, it was just, man, it was great. Herbie: Well that's why if you guys get a chance, listen to the exciting and new podcast with Jason and them, they're like... Shamus: Yeah, they cover all that stuff. And right now they're doing 80, I think 1986. Yeah. So they go through and every genre they do horror, like everything. It's action comedy. ⁓ name it, they do it, man. You guys and these guys will hear it on Monday. Like when you and Jay were talking about some of the like fatso and Midnight Madness, like those are movies like I wrote down and I'm going to watch because obviously you guys like them. We all like the same stuff. ⁓ But there was just so many movies and so much stuff to do and watch. And like MTV started in the 80s. Like and that was huge for our generation because before MTV and I don't know if you remember this, HBO had like a small little music. Yeah. Kind of thing. Like towards the end of the night, like 1130 was like a small little TV show like kind of where like not that there were videos, but they were just kind of like rock performances and stuff like that. And that was the second time I'd seen Kiss. The first one was it did a rerun of the Dick Clark special from 1976. And I think I was that was 1982, And that's when I was like, I need to do that. Somehow I need to do that. And I decided to start playing drums. And that's when like it was like Quiet Riot Kiss. It was the first time I've ever seen, it was ACDC, but it was with the first guy, Bon Scott. I forget the name of the And MTV hit and we were just like, holy smokes. And I just remember thinking to myself, how did, because like one of the first Video Killed the Radio Star, and then that Mickey song. Herbie: HBO, yeah, I guess so, because. What is this? Shamus: And then when you see those videos now, like they were the first two videos and you're just like, man, I hope this shit gets better. Yeah. Because like those videos were so horrible. But then like everything Motley Crue came out and I'm down and you were just like, ⁓ Herbie: Especially Van Halen. ⁓ my God. But that's like a thing, too. When I was ⁓ listening to music and stuff, you actually see these people like real and real life in the videos. Yeah. I mean, you look like you got like the cassette and all that stuff. You just you're just hearing the music. You don't even really see what they look like. Maybe on the of the album cover and stuff like that. how they really are. And then MTV was do like the interviews and all that stuff. So you actually get to know these people. You know, but. Shamus: That's something you lose with the digital stuff too because man, I couldn't wait to get the cassette or the record home and then you open up the cassette and it like all the lyrics to the song or like all the stuff that you wanted to, it was almost like the back of a cereal box. Nobody had cereal boxes anymore. But like you would open it up and just like Motley Crue was, this record was made on pure adrenaline and cocaine. Like you were just like, whoa. Like they wrote that or they had a different name for it. But like you would open it up, read the lyrics. and learn everything you could about the band. then if you were lucky, if their song was a huge hit, it would be on constant rotation and TV. But if it wasn't like a lot of the B side songs for. It wasn't to shout the devil album. It was. ⁓ Herbie: Is a crew one? Shamus: It was the one with the theater of pain. Yeah. Like if it wasn't smoking in the boys room, but you want to see home sweet home, like you have to wait up for headbangers ball to see it. Yeah. ⁓ And know, like you could, you could find it. You just like you said, and you could learn so much about the band, about watching and stuff like that. And then like a lot of the stuff like my dad didn't drink whiskey. I started drinking whiskey because in every Miley Crue video, those dudes had a bottle of whiskey. So when I got old enough to try it, I did. And I kind of liked it. And still drink whiskey to this day because of that. Herbie: impressionable. Because, they do all that extra stuff and, you know, just emulate it. You know, that's why a lot of times like, like when Steve was on, we were talking about like how we learn how to play was actually by, you know, watching, you know, not really tech taking technical lessons and all that stuff. So like when you're watching Molly crew videos, you're like, I want to play drums like Tommy Lee and You know, do all the stuff that they do and everything. even like, know, the stage presence, cause even like the Van Halen videos and stuff like that, you know, David Lee Roth, that was just like so animated to just like jumping around on the stage and stuff. So you got like everyone that's trying to start bands and you know, they're emulating what they see and like certain characteristics of the front man or like who like the guitarist, the drummer and all that stuff. Shamus: Oh, a lot of the twirling of the drumsticks I used to do and all that stuff was because of Tommy or Eric. I didn't really get to see too much of Peter Chris when he was at Kiss because I was a little bit like when Eric Carr played for which I think so much better drummer than Peter Chris. But Peter was a founding member. Eric Carr, huge influence on me. And then, like you said, like you'd see him in like nowadays, you can just I wish we had Google back then because like. I could have learned so much more because all you could see was like the videos or if you want the concert nowadays, these guys put up camera like Joey Jordison from Slipknot before he passed away and he was still on Slipknot. He always had cameras behind him. So like the fans could like you go on YouTube and watch different angles from where he was sitting and you could see exactly what he was hitting him and what he was doing. And you're just kind of like, holy smokes, man. Like that is huge for kids that I don't even know if kids still play instruments anymore. But like that's huge for kids who Herbie: . Shamus: can't afford, like you could just get a bunch of buckets together and a trash can lid, set it up a certain way and watch Joey Jordison. Like you don't even need drums. So that's great for, you know, inner city kids or kids who can't afford instruments and stuff like that and not have to take a lesson. Herbie: I don't know, man. Now, kids are like every kid, even a four year old's got a damn iPhone. So it's this or, you know, smartphone so they can just like download a video game. ⁓ yeah. Just like learn how to play there and all that stuff. And there's so many like, you know, that that's basically all it is now. Like they, you know, change the venue to like playing games. You know, educational, I guess. But, know, if you if you play ⁓ Rockstar. or rock hero with a guitar. Yeah, that doesn't mean if you jam out on guitar here, that doesn't mean you can actually pick up a pick up an axe and actually whale on it. Shamus: No, but what a lot of people don't realize is PlayStation. don't know which one it is. Does have a version where you could plug your guitar into it and it will teach you how to play like like Guitar Hero, but you're actually using a real guitar. Oh, that's cool. So but a lot of people don't do that because that's not fun. Nope. No, we had we had Breakout and Pac-Man. Yep. What was the other Yars Revenge? That was one of my favorite ones, too. Was another. Herbie: We didn't have that back in the day. Shamus: Tank like the combat one. That was good. Pong. Defender asteroids. Yeah. Herbie: Space invaders. When they got closer, like your heart would start racing with like, know, like that one that was like that, that's trying to get down to you. Shamus: That's why that movie Pixels. Do you ever see that? That hit home. I was like, ⁓ my. And we'll discuss that in the episode we got coming up later on next week when we talk about the mall. Yeah, the mall. The mall has it all. Herbie: Yeah, I don't know man. Yeah, well, I guess you know we said our piece about Chuck Norris Shamus: Yeah, may God keep them forever and rest in peace, Chuck. Yeah, man. Well, before we do that, let's let them know. We would just want to thank everybody. going to we weren't supposed to do an episode until Monday, but we've gotten such a great positive feedback from the first three episodes that we dropped. And, you know, with Chuck passing away, we thought we should do like a small tribute to him. Herbie: All right, well everyone, thanks for listening. Yeah, I don't think this was a small tribute that we're on this for a little. Shamus: Wow, but yeah, but ⁓ we also wanted to you know, thank everybody for all the comments and you know all the support that we're getting so far and we just want to let you guys know that we're probably gonna start doing Thursdays We'll do a show like this and then on Mondays we'll put up our our interview shows Yeah, so our next our next show will be Monday where we interview Jason from the Exciting a new podcast the guy who gave us our start. Yeah, ⁓ he lit the fire. had ⁓ had me on first And then he had Herbie on their podcast, him, Andy and Dana. And it kind of fueled the fuel the fire for what you're listening to now. ⁓ Herbie: Give those guys a listen too, man. They got plenty of episodes out. of fact, I think they just printed, popped out two more episodes. Shamus: The Hitcher? They did a What Are We Watching and then they did the Hitcher movie. Yeah. I'm still upset about the Cobra movie. You'll hear all about that on Monday. Yeah. So but yeah, that's what we got going on. We're probably going to do one of these episodes on Thursdays and then we're probably going to do ⁓ interview ones on Monday, you know, depending on the schedule. Summer's coming up. know people got stuff to do and we're trying to get people in here. We have a long. One of the things we that did happen was after we dropped our episodes, people started hitting us off and Herbie: They gots. Shamus: I kind of started asking, well, what do you like? You know people, but you don't know what they do for a living. And then some of the people are just like, hey, I'm a judge's secretary or I'm this or, you know. And I was just like, hey, you want to be on? So we have a long list of people we just got to schedule and get in here. We do have a couple of events coming up. WrestleMania is coming up. So we're gonna have two guys come in, two fan boys wrestling, two of the biggest wrestling fans I know. They're gonna come in. We're gonna discuss WrestleMania and how much of an impact that had on us when we were growing up as a kid. Herbie: and how to properly do a DDT. Shamus: Yeah, yeah. My mom could show you that if she was still alive. Herbie: Yeah, man, so everyone thank you for listening and stuff like that and we just really appreciate the the you know, the views and the positive comments and the you know the enthusiasm and While you're listening stuff like that. I hope we made you at least laugh a little bit, you know, enjoy your week Yeah, just to two homeboys just like hey just talking man Shamus: That's what this is all about. About having fun. Look at it this way. It's only going to get better from here and we haven't even drank during these things. Yeah, I know a couple beers or Herbie: God, I know that should be like the regular thing like a pop them if you got my I mean that refrigerator is looking pretty good. I know they're in there so Shamus: you Yeah, you still got peers in there. so but yeah, we just want to you know Show you guys some love and thank you for all your support and I guess that's it hurt. We can wrap this up. Yeah, man. All right ⁓ Next episode will drop Monday with Jason from the exciting new podcast. Please give it a listen. Yeah. Have a good night everybody Herbie: Take care.
