- 0:00Hi everyone, welcome to Mini Scroll, the daily Internet
- 0:04culture podcast bringing you the biggest stories from social
- 0:07media, the creator economy and the digital space every Monday
- 0:11through Thursday and sometimes Fridays like today.
- 0:15I'm your host, Lauren Meisner, the founder of the youth digital
- 0:18media brand Centennial World. Welcome back to Mini Scroll,
- 0:23everyone. A cute little Friday mini Scroll
- 0:26for you guys, also here in Sydney.
- 0:28It's finally starting to feel like maybe summer and apparently
- 0:31Tuesday is going to be 27° so I am so looking forward to the
- 0:37summer. I am ready for winter to be over
- 0:39even though I am Canadian and you would think that I'd be able
- 0:41to hack the winter. But any expat here knows that
- 0:45the winter in Australia hits so different because nothing here
- 0:49is built for winter. Nothing here is actually built
- 0:51for any weather. I see people say that on TikTok
- 0:53all the time and I'm like that's so true.
- 0:55The houses, the buildings, nothing's built for summer or
- 0:58winter. OK, before I get into it, Please
- 1:01remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 1:03Please Spotify star rate US. It helps us so much.
- 1:06Leave us an Apple review, buy us a coffee if you feel so
- 1:08inclined. It all helps us so much.
- 1:10It helps us keep going. It helps us grow.
- 1:12All right, the first story that I have for you guys is Tana Mojo
- 1:15has collabed on a new makeup collection with Tart Cosmetics.
- 1:20So Tana Mojo has just launched a makeup collab with Tart.
- 1:24The collab features 2 limited edition lip kits and at the time
- 1:28of recording, one of them is sold out.
- 1:29I imagine the other probably also is at this point, but it
- 1:33will for sure be sold out soon. They're basically inspired by
- 1:36Tana's like everyday lip combo vibe and I actually love that
- 1:41it's a lip kit. At first I was like, that's such
- 1:44a weird decision. Like that's so archaic.
- 1:46And then I was like, actually, that's such a good decision
- 1:48because it's so nostalgic. And, you know, Tana's kind of
- 1:51like peak infamy and her career was like 2015 to 2018 when lip
- 1:57kits were everywhere, when they were so viral.
- 2:00Viral. Were they even viral?
- 2:01Was viral even a thing back then?
- 2:02Like, it was, but I guess it was viralistic Snapchat vibes.
- 2:05I don't know. Whatever.
- 2:06Yeah. So I thought this was a really
- 2:08good decision also. Like, we are always looking for
- 2:11a lip combo. I have seen people criticizing
- 2:14that one of the lip kits comes with like a Haley Bieber esque
- 2:17lipstick or like lip gloss, like phone holder thing and it's like
- 2:22kind of ugly and I don't know. It's it's it's not like really
- 2:25the vibe, but I actually think the products are going to be
- 2:28really good. I love tart products.
- 2:30I know we talk a lot about tart on this podcast because they do
- 2:33all those insane influencer trips and there's always just
- 2:36like a lot going on behind the scenes with that brand.
- 2:38But their products, I actually love them.
- 2:41Every product that I have tried from tart, I've been like, this
- 2:43is honestly amazing, especially their eye products like oh so
- 2:48good. I love their eye shadows.
- 2:49I love their eyeliners. So if I was like a really big
- 2:51fan of Tana, I would definitely be getting this.
- 2:53Now. The video announcing it is
- 2:55really cute. Tana said that she felt like it
- 2:58was so weird to be working with such a big like mainstream brand
- 3:02because for so long mainstream brands wouldn't touch her
- 3:05because she was like not brand safe.
- 3:06So she was like, it's so weird being in like brand safe era,
- 3:08which is really cute. Now another little bit of Tana
- 3:12Mojo news. This is not like a second story.
- 3:13It's just like an offshoot is that she was spotted at the
- 3:17unwell network offices recently. So people are wondering if she's
- 3:21going to be launching a podcast under unwell.
- 3:24And now that cancelled is over. She still has Not Loveline with
- 3:28Trisha Paytas. But I mean from what I see on
- 3:30Reddit, people don't really like that podcast.
- 3:33It doesn't really seem to be super popular with fans.
- 3:36And I saw one interesting analysis.
- 3:39And if you guys listen to Not Loveline and you listen to
- 3:42Cancel frequently, let me know if you agree with this.
- 3:44But I saw people talking about how like with Cancelled, Brooke
- 3:48and Tana were OK with disagreeing and Brooke like
- 3:51brought a bit of friction to their dynamic, whereas Tricia
- 3:55and Tana like constantly agree with each other.
- 3:57And so it's just not that interesting.
- 3:59OK, the next story that I have for you guys, I'm sure you have
- 4:03seen this. This is the most viral thing on
- 4:05the Internet today. Urgent care workers have been
- 4:08fired from a clinic in California after making Tik Toks
- 4:12mocking patients bodily fluids. So a group of California
- 4:16healthcare workers have been fired after a TikTok video
- 4:19surfaced of them mocking stains which were believed to be bodily
- 4:23fluids on exam tables. The video was posted by an
- 4:28employee on their own account, and it featured a carousel of
- 4:32clinic staff members basically posing with, like, their thumbs
- 4:35up and, like, big smiles beside exam tables.
- 4:39And like, you know, the paper that's on exam tables when you
- 4:42go to the doctor and there seem to be like, patient discharge
- 4:46from pap smears or other reproductive testing.
- 4:49So this carousel was in response to the prompt, Are patients
- 4:54allowed to leave you guys gifts? And the caption read Guess the
- 4:58substance. Now the backlash was really
- 5:00intense, as you can imagine. I mean, this is so fucked up for
- 5:03so many reasons. But some of the main things that
- 5:06people were saying. So, you know, like women and
- 5:09just like people going for medical exams, but like
- 5:12especially women going in for reproductive testing.
- 5:15It's such a vulnerable experience anyways.
- 5:19And now having to see your healthcare workers mocking you,
- 5:23especially if you go to that clinic or you've been to that
- 5:25clinic, it's so horrible. It's going to make people so
- 5:29much more apprehensive to get this type of testing if they
- 5:31feel like this is how their medical team feels about them or
- 5:35responds to them having a very normal function, which is like
- 5:39stuff coming out when people are up in there.
- 5:42OK, There's already so much distrust in science and medicine
- 5:46right now. So this is also just giving
- 5:48people more ammo to like, fall down or go down the Moja
- 5:52pipeline. And I also saw one comment that
- 5:54literally broke me. It's said that some women get
- 5:57the worst news of their lives on those beds.
- 6:00And it's disgraceful to be making a mockery of that entire
- 6:05situation. So the company, Sutter Health,
- 6:08which overseas the clinic, confirmed Wednesday that the
- 6:11employees responsible had been terminated, calling the post
- 6:14inappropriate and insensitive. The network also said the person
- 6:17who uploaded the TikTok had not worked at the facility for two
- 6:21months. A lot of people don't believe
- 6:23that. They're like, why would somebody
- 6:24post this video of them clearly at work with all their
- 6:28colleagues if they had left two months prior?
- 6:29But I don't know, whatever. It doesn't really matter either
- 6:32way when this person did or did not work there.
- 6:34And even though they were fired, many are calling for the workers
- 6:38to lose their medical licenses. People are saying fired isn't
- 6:42enough. OK.
- 6:42And the last that I have for you guys, there's like this digital
- 6:45uprising in the Philippines right now going viral as TikTok
- 6:49users expose the neppo babies of politicians and government
- 6:54contractors in an effort to fight back against corruption.
- 6:59This is a very interesting story.
- 7:01I got it from pedestrian. Whenever I find something that's
- 7:03a bit niche, I try and like cite where I got it from.
- 7:05So I did not find this on my own.
- 7:07This was through pedestrian. So this movement was triggered
- 7:10by outrage over the July 2025 floods, when monsoon rains and
- 7:14storms left Metro Manila and nearby provinces underwater.
- 7:18Over 6 million people were affected, more than 30 were
- 7:21killed and thousands were displaced.
- 7:23Billions were spent on flood protections, but obviously this
- 7:28whole situation highlighted how ineffective those protections
- 7:32were. So then online investigators
- 7:34started to do some digging because they felt like this just
- 7:37didn't add up. And they uncovered that over 1
- 7:40billion pesos of the 545 billion pesos flood control budget went
- 7:46to just 15 contractors, many allegedly tied to politicians.
- 7:52So in an effort to, I guess, fight back against this, now
- 7:56users are digging into the social media accounts of these
- 7:59contractors children and criticizing their luxury
- 8:03lifestyles. And this actually has led to
- 8:05some fallout. So, for example, vlogger
- 8:08Claudine Co, her father's company was implicated and she
- 8:12disappeared from social media after backlash to her luxury
- 8:15lifestyle posts. Creator Jamie Cruz, who was also
- 8:18tied to another firm that received received billions, made
- 8:21her Instagram private after a Chanel bag video went viral
- 8:24where she was like showing a Chanel bag.
- 8:26A bunch of these Napo babies have restricted comments or
- 8:29locks down their accounts amid all of this mounting pressure.
- 8:32Now, there's two sides to this, of course, right?
- 8:34So there's the people that are like in favor of this.
- 8:37And then there's other people who are like the children of
- 8:40these powerful people. What did they have to do with
- 8:42this? Like, why are we taking it out
- 8:44on them? So the people who are like in
- 8:47favor of that are basically saying like a lot of these
- 8:50children, quote UN quote, look like they are in their late 20s,
- 8:54maybe even 30s. They shouldn't be shielded by
- 8:57this. They're adults, they can handle
- 8:59it. And some people think having the
- 9:00pressure on the children will maybe actually make the
- 9:03politicians and the people who are like doing this alleged
- 9:06corruption, I guess change or reflect or something might
- 9:10happen. Others feel like maybe this is
- 9:12just like a lifestyle policing witch hunt.
- 9:15You know, people feel like they want to get up on their
- 9:17righteous high horse and go after people who have more than
- 9:20them. And I mean, I think both of
- 9:22those ideas or opinions on this are valid because we do see the
- 9:27latter happen so often and people kind of frame their, you
- 9:31know, cyber bullying as social justice.
- 9:36But I also do think that there is some interesting organization
- 9:40going on behind the scenes of like, this digital kind of
- 9:43uprising. Like I said, a government in the
- 9:46Philippines has begun official investigations into flood
- 9:48control spending. And it promises apparently to
- 9:51pursue, quote, even a whiff of corruption.
- 9:53But regardless, if anything actually comes of this, I think
- 9:56this is another example of how people are just not having this
- 10:00widening wealth gap and they're looking for ways to create their
- 10:05own change. And they're using social media
- 10:07to do that because at the end of the day, that is some of the
- 10:11best power that we have right now.
- 10:13Anyways, guys, that's it for Mini Scroll today.
- 10:15Thank you so much for listening. I love you guys.
- 10:17Please remember to rate, review and subscribe.
- 10:20Buy us a Coffee star, rate US on Spotify, all of that good stuff.
- 10:24I love you guys and I will talk to you on Monday.
