- 0:00Speaker 1: Time out for Back to the Basics and healthcare with
- 0:02Speaker 1: Balance Life Chiropractic. And we've got doctor Harley with us.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hello, doctor Harley, Hey John.
- 0:07Speaker 1: We last week we talked about slipping on the ice.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Then I slipped on the ice and broke a TV.
- 0:11Speaker 1: So what are we talking about this week? Cold? Now,
- 0:13Speaker 1: I'm going to be cold, right, I mean, we.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Did just get through a pretty good cold snap over
- 0:17Speaker 2: the weekend.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And it's it's wild how cold it was. Because I
- 0:20Speaker 1: stepped outside, I'm like, it feels like even colder than
- 0:23Speaker 1: it really was. But we had a little bit of
- 0:24Speaker 1: breeze to go with it. That helps, doesn't It helps
- 0:26Speaker 1: make it feel colder?
- 0:27Speaker 2: Right? Yeah, So this time of year, you know, we
- 0:30Speaker 2: don't realize sometimes how much the cold really affects us.
- 0:34Speaker 2: And I've had this conversation a couple times over the
- 0:36Speaker 2: last couple of weeks with patients, and one in particular,
- 0:39Speaker 2: you know, made me think like we should talk about this.
- 0:41Speaker 2: You know, maybe you're someone that you've been trying to
- 0:43Speaker 2: lose a lot of weight and you did recently. Maybe
- 0:46Speaker 2: you been on the GLP kick and you were starting
- 0:49Speaker 2: to realize I'm cold all the time. Yeah, Well, you
- 0:52Speaker 2: lost a lot of your insulation, which is fantastic. It's good.
- 0:56Speaker 2: You know, weight loss is huge for taking stress off
- 0:59Speaker 2: your joints. You're just overall healthier, even more active. But
- 1:03Speaker 2: now as we're gonna geto winter, you've lost that warming installation,
- 1:07Speaker 2: so now you're noticing your cold all the time.
- 1:09Speaker 1: That's why I pack on my winterweight typically just.
- 1:11Speaker 2: To I mean, you know, that's why we reach for
- 1:13Speaker 2: comfort food. It's like, especially up here in the North,
- 1:16Speaker 2: that's our intrinsic nature is to stay warm.
- 1:20Speaker 1: We've been doing the fasting thing, and both Heidi and
- 1:22Speaker 1: I have lost some weight doing that. But I can
- 1:24Speaker 1: tell you the last couple of weeks, with all of
- 1:26Speaker 1: the Christmas parties that I've been going to, and then
- 1:29Speaker 1: it's like, oh, hey, by the way, you get some
- 1:31Speaker 1: prime rib while you're here. I'm like, I am going
- 1:32Speaker 1: to take that prime rib. So I'm like, I have
- 1:35Speaker 1: not lost any weight. I've gained about three pounds. So
- 1:38Speaker 1: I can't wait for the Christmas season to be done
- 1:41Speaker 1: for that reason, if nothing else, right, this time.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Of here is kind of tough on diets. You know,
- 1:44Speaker 2: you have Thanksgiving of Christmas of New Year's so if
- 1:48Speaker 2: you're one of those people that you've been very good
- 1:50Speaker 2: and you're still losing weight. And one thing I was
- 1:53Speaker 2: talking to the patient about, because they're always having more
- 1:55Speaker 2: neck pain right now because of the cold, is like, well,
- 1:58Speaker 2: maybe you know wearing a scarf or you know. She
- 2:01Speaker 2: actually found this online. Don't know where she got it,
- 2:02Speaker 2: but it was like an electric scarf. You know, you
- 2:05Speaker 2: know we had those heated vests and jackets and stuff.
- 2:07Speaker 2: It was a scarf. I'm like, that's fantastic. Yeah, And
- 2:10Speaker 2: she noticed once she started wearing this, her neck pain
- 2:13Speaker 2: got so much better. She wasn't achy all the time
- 2:17Speaker 2: because she was staying warmer. She had lost forty fifty
- 2:20Speaker 2: pounds over the last year, so I mean, coming to
- 2:23Speaker 2: this new winter being colder, she was like, this is
- 2:25Speaker 2: weird for me.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Yeah, but that that makes sense. And I know, I
- 2:28Speaker 1: was just working with a gentleman that has he was
- 2:30Speaker 1: pushing a button like right here on his jacket. I'm like,
- 2:33Speaker 1: what is that for. He goes, oh, it's a it's
- 2:34Speaker 1: a heated jacket. I'm like, yeah, I've never had a
- 2:37Speaker 1: heated jacket.
- 2:38Speaker 2: I've seen those where you know, I've seen the vests,
- 2:40Speaker 2: the jackets, I've seen gloves. I've seen even boots, So.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like iron Man. I got a little
- 2:45Speaker 1: button on my chest.
- 2:46Speaker 2: So if you know you're putting on all the layers,
- 2:48Speaker 2: isn't enough, you know, sweaters, cardigans, all that because of
- 2:52Speaker 2: you know, maybe looking at getting like an electric you know,
- 2:55Speaker 2: heated something. You know Christmas is coming, put that on
- 2:58Speaker 2: your wish list.
- 2:59Speaker 1: There you go. And for folks that maybe if maybe
- 3:02Speaker 1: that's not what they need the cold, but they still
- 3:05Speaker 1: this time of year like I did this week, slipped
- 3:07Speaker 1: down the ice. And I think it's funny because even
- 3:09Speaker 1: before I told doctor Harley that, She's like, oh wow,
- 3:12Speaker 1: you got some stuff going on, and how could you tell?
- 3:15Speaker 2: You could just tell you were just more tense. And
- 3:17Speaker 2: that's something. And notice like our muscles tend to just
- 3:19Speaker 2: tense up a little bit more, especially if you fell.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Obviously that's going to kind of cause them to go
- 3:24Speaker 2: into a state of fight or flight. They're ready for
- 3:27Speaker 2: action because you fell. That a drenaline spike.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I caught myself, so I didn't fall, but.
- 3:32Speaker 2: We talked about lot of it that's almost worse sometimes.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Well, and I was not even like down on the ground.
- 3:36Speaker 1: I was still standing. But I was pulling a fifty
- 3:38Speaker 1: five inch TV out of my vehicle and I smacked
- 3:41Speaker 1: it on the vehicle and broke it.
- 3:42Speaker 2: So, uh, yeah, I don't do that.
- 3:44Speaker 1: That's a bad idea, right, But yeah, she noticed, which
- 3:47Speaker 1: I thought was pretty impressive. And if somebody else listening
- 3:50Speaker 1: is going, oh, man, I twisted this or I pulled that,
- 3:52Speaker 1: or I've got this pain or that pain. How do
- 3:53Speaker 1: they get in touch with you here at Balance Life Chiropractic.
