- 0:42one of the darkest days in our nation's history.
- 0:46For some listening today, you remember exactly where you were.
- 0:51But there's now an entire generation that was not alive when it happened.
- 0:56So, I believe it's important that we continue to tell the story.
- 1:02On that morning, September 11th, terrorists hijacked four passenger planes.
- 1:08Two were flown into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City.
- 1:13Another struck the Pentagon in Virginia.
- 1:16Passengers and crew aboard Flight 93 fought back against the hijackers,
- 1:21and the plane crashed in Pennsylvania.
- 1:25Nearly 3,000 people were killed. There were mothers and fathers, sons and daughters,
- 1:33Husbands and wives Friends and co-workers Firefighters Police officers Emergency medical personnel,
- 1:45And ordinary people who began what they believed would be another ordinary day,
- 1:51For countless families, life would never be the same And so today,
- 1:5725 years later We remember them we remember those who ran from danger we honor
- 2:05those who ran toward it to help complete strangers.
- 2:10We remember the first responders who gave their lives that day.
- 2:14We remember those who became sick or lost their lives in the years that followed
- 2:19because of their service at that attack site.
- 2:23We also remember the survivors and every family that continues to carry the
- 2:27loss of someone they loved.
- 2:31And now, wherever you're listening, I invite you to join me in a prayer.
- 2:37Let us pray. Heavenly Father, today we remember.
- 2:43We remember life and every life taken on September 11, 2001.
- 2:49We remember their names, their families, their stories, and the empty places left behind.
- 2:56We pray for those who still carry grief 25 years later.
- 3:01We give thanks for the firefighters, police officers, emergency workers,
- 3:06military personnel, medical professionals, volunteers, ordinary citizens who
- 3:13responded with extraordinary courage.
- 3:16Lord, teach future generations what happened that day, not so that they inherit
- 3:22hatred, but so that they understand the cost of violence and the value of peace.
- 3:29We are world right now is divided.
- 3:33Help us seek understanding. Where there is hatred, help us choose love.
- 3:38Where there is fear, give us courage. And where there is darkness,
- 3:43help us carry your light.
- 3:45May we never forget those we lost. May we honor them, not only with our words
- 3:51today, but the way we treat one another tomorrow.
